You guys have been deciding Whether to go in a room for a couple of episodes now We left on a bit of a cliff You guys should spend a few minutes last sesh wondering what to do. You are currently on the west end of the undercity, the vault beneath the vault, where you think in one corner,

you got some treasure after all the treasure tried to bite you. And in the other corner, you have the thief queen, an undead queen who may be an emissary of caius, inter-cosmic horror. You're about to explore a room or set it on fire or both. There was talk of making this very dark room a little better lit.

There was talk of pointing every fire-based weapon or spell you have at the hooded figure in the corner, just assuming that he was as deadly as a box of treasure. But you very silently opened the door, snuck in and out, and now you're kind of deciding what to do about the hooded figure and the door. dark. I'm going to go put on those goggles that tried to bite my eyes out. Oh.

And see if they work. No, I'm kidding. I like the idea of us all we, I think that towards the end kind of discussed maybe we all launch our attacks simultaneously from here. I like that. Yeah. Everybody else? Bottleckish.

I wasn't kidding when I said I listened and you guys wanted to just point all your fireship. Do we have How are we doing on hit points? I know I'm down. I don't think you guys arrested since you got here, or maybe not since a few rooms ago at least.

I think maybe you did a short rest in the room where you crossed the mucus. I'm at 64 out of 71, so I'm not bad. Yeah, I'm down into the 40s. So, and I'm a little cat me, now. well then do you want to heal up are you saying you need healing before we attack that would that might be nice actually if anybody has some sort of oh you know what i have a i have a potion of healing i'm going to take one of those oh there you go uh 2d4 plus 2 so here's a 1d4 d4 1 ringy dingy 2 2 plus 410 so i'm okay

So overall, you guys are able to compensate for whatever imbalance there is by just having two members of the party. become stealth bomber level, like, what's the word I'm like more strategic, uh, silence. So you pop the door open just enough to aim all of your stuff. Let's get all those attacks. And since you're not rolling initiative yet, I am going to sort of like use how high your stealth was. So, uh, Blaine, what, what, uh, would you like to do firewise?

Firewise, do you know what? I'm going to I'm going to hit him with a chromatic orb and I'm going to use acid. Okay. And I believe that's a ball attack. Nice. I'm going to try to catch up with

I do 3D8 of acid damage to this group. Wow. Yeah. That's as 6 and 4 is 10, 13. Dang. All right. And then next in the stealth order is Chris. What is Twyton going to try?

Me? Sweet. I will do a fire of a bolt. So, wait, no, that's Brian. Brian is the 28. I'm so sorry. I got your own Brian. Okay, never mind. I'll wait. I'll let you do.

I'll keep that role if you want. But Brian, what would you like to do? Excuse me. I was going to fire a bolt. That seems like the most sensible. Here we go. 20, 13 plus 7. That's a hit. Nice.

Do we even know what this guy is? yet as he turned around, bright eyes? Nope. Nope. You have not engaged him or seen much of him even. What if it's like a friend of ours? Is it showing up somewhere? Oh, God.

Well, if it's Kumael. Oh, my God. Yeah. Eight points of fire damage. Okay, cool. He's so ripped. It was weird on my screen. It didn't fully materialize.

Well, I do see it. Cool. Anything else for your turn, Brian? I only get one action. right? I believe so. Okay. So now Chris. That is it, my friend.

I will do the firebolt. I will keep my 21 to hit. That's such a hit. And then 2D10 fire damage for a total of 13 fire damage. Nice. Yay. Just get up, Chris. I can.

I can. Few. Yes. Sorcer is burst. and that's a plus 8 so 18 Hmm That's a hit

I'm going to use psychic damage All right So that is Kind of like a stage mom 2D8 That is 10 points of damage

Keep accidentally rolling 10 points of damage Okay these. Nice, nice, nice. Anything else for your turn? No. Well, these weren't entirely turns,

but I was doing the closest thing that felt right just for this particular moment since you'd spent so much time winding up for the stealth check. I thought we should do a stealth, and that'll just be that. And I will not describe what's happening.

So the hooded figure is just getting slammed with fireballs. You can sort of smell this burned meat, barbecue chicken on the spit kind of smell. It's yeah, it's smoky in a meaty

kind of way. And the room starts to get a lot of black smoke in it as you lay into this guy. It's quiet for a moment. Then you see the figure's silhouette is shaking.

It looks like most of its robes have been singed off. It's got a mask that is broken in several spaces and hanging kind of loose. And as he turns around, you start to see much of his body is like, it looks like transparent skin. And you just see underneath this transparent skin, all these worms. Like he is just like a humanoid shaped plastic bag full of writhing worms. well then I'm glad we attacked it

he uh lifts the index finger of one of his transparent hands up worms squiggling around in the back of it and it's up to where his lips would be and you hear a is he listening to the nerd poker podcast

he lowers his hand and goes back to what he was doing what the fuck so like we barely affected him. It seems like it. So maybe it's like a librarian in like a weird magic room. He's pretty, he looks very damaged by what you did.

He's just not showing pain or gore because he is a bag of worms which is reacting to you differently than a person would. Interesting. Just sort of as an aside, What does the room, can you remind us what's going on in the room? Like, what's the fires in the middle and the circles? There's four pillars, sort of mid-equidistant in the room.

Two of them are a little more on the north side, two are a little more on the south side. In the middle of the room, there is a table with what looks like. some of a candelabra thing yeah the candelabra thing and it looks like some sort of magic ritual with components is being set up on the central table you're trying to summon his brother george

it's a liberate's joke oh yeah yeah oh they knew our listeners oh come on like the show it's like a history lesson that's called well he didn't They didn't do anything.

And they seemed to kind of turn back. Yeah, it's like at the beginning of Ghostbusters. You know what I mean? There's that librarian thing. I don't know. Because Dan's... But apparently we damaged it. Oh, yeah.

I mean, I am trying to say something's happening. I think maybe I have a delay. You guys keep talking right when I'm talking. But like, the guy is now turning around and going towards the table. And it looks like he's got some sort of green paste smeared on two of his fingers. I'll shoot him again. Okay. Everyone roll for initiative this time.

If he's going towards the table, no, no, no. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The more we talk about how he's not doing anything, I should really try to force the narrative in a little bit. All right, so... 14 plus 4, 18. Okay, one second. Oh, my God.

Ken, what did you get? Five. Was that a five? Did you say five? Fuck. Okay. A whole five. You guys all look clear, but I'm getting reactions like my connection's not working or something.

as soon as the guy turns around again so what would you like to do? How far away is he? Let's see, let me use the ruler he is 50 feet away from you. Okay, I'll do KD firebolt again or no? Yeah, okay.

Why not? I don't know. That's really irritating. It's done showing up. Okay. It says it's a nine to hit, which is a miss. So, okay, cool. Sorry.

Sorry, America. Blaine, you're up. I'm going to, I'm going to duck in, like, kind of peek around the corner with my paws. And I'm going to fire bolt him. Okay. Those are spell attacks. where did I put my thing I'm sorry

16 plus 7 to 23 to hit and those are Fireball 2D10 mm-hmm

Dang it 5 plus 9 14 and I'm gonna and I'm gonna duck back out. All right. As you duck back out, the rest of you who are still appearing through the door, Chris and Kanabat's attack, you see this sort of human-shaped plastic bag full of worms explode.

There's just this wet popping noise and you see chunks of this transparent flash fly everywhere. The worms start to collapse, but they're holding the, as if they're having difficulty exercising enough concentration to be bound, but they're still trying. And this shape of humanoid in worms that are sort of leaping and writhing and curling to grip each other, the worms like falling off the arms and the head and the torso as it lurches towards you guys. It walks past the table about five feet.

And then, Chris, you are up. Well, for sure, let's say firebolt again on that thing of goops. That's an 18 to hit. That's a hit. 2D10 fire damage for a total of 12 fire damage. And then movement-wise, I'm going to fall back to the north. up where our fish

reservists and the elephant are hanging out and I'll kind of fall back without it. They'll back up

a little bit to make room for everybody if they want to do the same. Fish will have worms. Is that door to the north

still open, Dan? Yes, I believe so. Would you like to go all the way in the room? I'm just

one, two, three, four, yeah, I will go five, six, and try and get around the corner,

so I'm out of line to sight if it comes into the hallway. Little peepers would be like, oh, are we getting out of the way of something? Yeah, there's murder bugs. Go get them. A bunch of gross worms. Oh, do you tell them? Yeah.

We'll go get them. All right. Okay. Let's see. Then who is next to the turn order? Ken. I am going to firebolt. I'd like to see you try.

There we go. It's a 27 to hit. That's the hits. And that's a... That's a 2D8 plus 10. Plus 10. Nice. I'm sorry.

It's 2D10. What am I saying? It's not 2D8. Oh, their name is 2D10. Got it. Okay, so that's 2D10. It's Kim Fields in the Mickey 17 sequel.

What the hell? Five. Wow. It's exciting. You guys have been smashing, and this one, it's not going to hit him quite as hard. No, apparently not. I'm going to try to get out of the way here if I can't.

Okay. You guys are roasting these things. There's these little pops as your flame smash into it, and it's still holding together somehow. Brian, you're up. It is much closer to you. It lurched towards you last round and is now 20 feet away. Okay.

Well, I'm going to split. I'm going to run towards it and attack it with the javelin. All right. It's a 12 to hit. That's going to be a miss, but let me double check all this stuff going on with it. 12 flat or 5 plus 7 5 plus 7

it's 5 plus 7 yeah but I couldn't remember if there was something else going on with this guy with your by the guy I don't mean the guy I mean actually the de javelin all right will that do it for your turn Brian would you like to join Ken and Chris who sort of fled to the north to get behind another doorway

So yeah you can get back towards the doorway Cool Little Peepers is up He's joined the initiative You can't go quite as far because he's got short little legs. He can get... He knows that a short little use them.

I've been fired. Oh, sorry. That's terrible. That's for the short little legs joke. Right in the middle of D&D. I remember during I remember to mute for my half of the phone call Why couldn't you blame?

All right, so Will Peepers gets a 24 to hit with a short bow Nice You know Dan, I'd like to tell her I love her, but the point is right He's going to do 29 points of piercing and sneak attack damage Wow

His arrow just slices through to the other side and a bunch of these worms start to disassemble. It's barely standing. Blaine, you're up. I'm going to do the thing where I poke my paws around the door and do

another fire bolt. Okay. Because it just seems... Does it seem like there's no fire immunity going on here? It seems like the fire is affecting him. But it is affecting him. I'm trying as much as the delay and my

thoughts timing can convey that he's starting to fall apart a little bit. Can I ask something before I do the firebolt? The candelabra, does it seem like the candelabra is magic or any kind of energy source or anything in here? Sure, do an arcana check. 16 plus 7.23. Yeah, that is definitely a sacrificial table where some sort of necromanic ritual was about to take place or is set up to take place.

The candles seem to act as some sort of conduit, and there's a big space in the middle that implies something is placed between the flames. The components around the table look like they are a part of the ritual, and maybe they're meant to be smeared across a sacrifice. Well, then I'm going to firebolt past him and firebolt the whole table, and try to knock the candelabra over.

Great. Roll to attack the table. His OCD is going to go crazy. 13 plus 7. That's a hit on this inanimate object with limited hit points. Or a series of inanimate object laying on one. Seven plus six, 13 points of damage to the candle. Ah, bra.

And just trying to blow everything off the table and fuck it up. Yeah, he's going to feel some of this. as it smashes. What are you going to say, Blame? And then I'm going to run past the doorway up towards the... Okay. Everybody else up on the side of the hallway. And I didn't mean to make it sound dramatic exactly the way I just said it,

but when you hit it with the firebolt, the table smashes, and it, like, doesn't do damage, but it, like, hits the back of the worm. and they start to splatter. There's not much of it left. Okay, good, good. And then the candelabra like falls in a large chunk and a smaller chunk on the ground. The flames extinguish. Yay!

Will I do it for your turn? That's it for me, yes. Okay. This being is going to stumble 10 feet forward and slam face first into the ground. when he does so, there is a splatter of worms that splashes upwards towards you, Brian. Last person left in the room. Can I get a dexterity saving throw?

Drew. You got this. Sorry. Blame. Blame what's going on. Oh, you can't see it. Is that what you're saying? Mm-hmm.

You start trying to shake them off, but you see they're trying to adhere themselves with this very heavy coating of mucus. Oh, gross. The fuck. Mucous. Chris, you're up. Do we have any sense of what's happening

to him as this is going on? In terms of like how that's affecting him? Perception check with disadvantage. He's around two corners, but he's sort of in the doorway. All right, I rolled 23 and a 25. I'll take it 23.

Okay. That's pretty amazing disadvantage roll. But yeah, you can just barely out the corner of your eye at like an angle where Brian's barely in the doorway himself. You see him kind of lean backwards as he gets coated in mucous thick worms. Mewkis. I'm trying to. All right. Well, I'm going to.

at least, it's going to help him. So are you saying, Dan, that the creature really isn't a creature anymore. Is it really now just the bug, the grubs that are on Brian's

legs and arms? You could say, yeah, that it's not humanoid shaped anymore. It's now more of a swarm. Hmm. Okay, so firing a firebolt

won't help because it'll essentially burn Brian. Um, Don't do that, please. I don't want to, Brian, but I'm going to have to. If I'm looking, I have phantasmal force. No, that's not going to work. That would distract them, but not really do anything.

I'm going to, I think we're going to have to cast Bless. I'm going to, from 30 feet away, Let's see. Is this work? Okay, so I got to move. I will come back about halfway down the hallway. So I have line of sight on Brian in the doorway. And I'm going to cast that should be close enough for Bless.

I believe on less than 30 feet. Yep. I'm going to cast Bless on Brian. So Brian, that means, oh, I can bless up to three creatures. So I will bless whoever else is close. I will bless Brian. Little Peepers and Siam Spade, all of whom are between me

and the pile of grubs. You guys are all blessed for the next minute. Whenever a target makes an attack roll or a saving throw, the target can roll a D4 and add it to an attack roll or saving throw. So you guys all have a D4 on attacks and saving throws

for the next minute. Okay. Thank you. Yeah, let's say I'm playing some sort of some sort of kind of repeating chord or something like that on my loot to make that bless happen. Okay. And then I'm also, I think for shits and giggles, I'm going to give Brian a bardic inspiration as well. And Brian, that gives you a D8 for the next 10 minutes. Killer.

All right, that's it. Ken, you're up. So what's left here? A pile of worms? Yep. Stickin to Brian. Oh, but it's all on Brian. Most of it is a rival...

Yeah, but the worms said are your worms. The worms all claim to be your worms. Weird. Um, hmm. Can I see if there's something and blow it off of him or something. Oh, like a gust of wind or something? Yeah. Yeah, but I don't think I have gust of wind.

What are your gusts? My gusts are cold, fire, lightning, poison, you know, that kind of thing. Show me your gusts. Our gusts tonight are Jackson Brown, comedian Pudgy, and Blue Man Group. Pudgy. Yeah, I'm trying to see what Shalab might be. I don't remember Pudgy. Natural weapon.

Okay, I was thinking of ultra-self. That's not going to work. She was like a proto-Rosan. Got it. And she was a cake at Carvel. Can I have power fart? I have power fart. No, you don't.

Fuck. Yeah, I'm looking for weather things in your spell list. And then, Dan, I see you put a sort of a token down the next to Brian. So does that mean there is actually a target as well as next to Brian besides on Brian? Not much of one, but yes, there is like a central one. Sweet. Is that what's left of the guy? Yes, correct.

All right. I'll fire at that then. Okay. What the hell? Destroy it. That would be a firebolt once again. Okay. What the hell happened here?

Okay, a firebolt. It's a 1d20 to roll plus eight bonus. Oh, wow. That's a 13. That is going to be a hit. Oh. Goody. Or is it?

What happened? I can get hit. And I do 14 points of damage on the thingy. Okay. So the rest of the worms splash into chaos when you hit it. Some on to Brian, but mostly the ones on Brian, the mucus looks like it's some sort of napalm, vaseline, like that's flammable kind of substance. Oh, no. And so the mucus on Brian lights up.

Oh, no. Hey, Brian? Yeah. You do another dexterity saving throw? Yeah, absolutely. Brian, I'll remind you you've got a, because you're blessed, you can add a D4. Oh, yeah. You can see it.

But you've got a, you're blessed. Let's see if it's high because I have a plus D8 or a plus eight on decks. Sweet. Did it come through, Dan? I'm pulling up the game long again. it was no I didn't get anything for you should I roll it again

yeah which is just telegraph it over I just see a perception check no we did it tax something's coming up did it did it did it did it did it that that that

yeah I saw the number Brian it is a 10 which is a fail unfortunately plus the four plus he's got plus you got a D4 and then And then also you've got that D8 of Bartic inspiration if you want to, I would say definitely use your glass. I think I got a four on that.

What's it say? So that would be a 14? Yeah, it's a 14. And then you can add a D8 if you want. Well, does 14 save my answer now? I don't get to tell you that before you roll. Well, I already rolled it. I rolled the four.

Do you want to use the bless? Sure, if I need it, yeah. Or the Barnic inspiration. I did, I already did the blast. Okay. Do it. Yeah, man. Did it show up though, Dan?

I'm sorry I can't. No, I understand. I'm also just not sure what we've gotten across back and forth to each other yet, but you roll a D4 and it was a four. That's now I see something else coming up. Plus whatever. Then it was a six, so that's a dirty 20. Yeah.

Cool. Ooh. Nice. It's a dirty 20 open for rat. So you're going to have this fire damage. When Ken shoots the pile of worms, it splatters. You're going to have this fire. It, uh, it, uh, it, uh, splashes everywhere, like liquid, uh, that is fuel and

some of it is on Brian. Brian manages to shake a lot of it off, but he's going to take 3D6 fire damage. Jesus, crime. And it's just halved. It's halved. So that's going to be half of 14. 7 points of fire damage. Nice.

And then after burning himself a little bit, he manages to scrape it off with his hands. Brian. You managed to get the rest of this fire off of you. And you guys are now out of combat. We'll have to see what this was all about on our next episode of NERC.
