Starting point is 00:02:57 and a reasonable doubt in new york what a week who's excited the reasonable doubt in new york is a like reasonable doubt was recorded it is available everywhere actually there's going to sound like a weird take because obviously yes j z is from new york and a reasonable doubt was recorded here but it's rare that we've had like events in everything's in l a like it's nice that like j z is doing this in new york obviously he would but in 2026 any cool activation pop up like skips new york and it never used to. Yeah, I mean, what this means... Everything's in L.A.
Starting point is 00:03:34 The artist is from New York. The album was created in New York. It's probably a staple in New York hip-hop. And it's a 30-year anniversary. But I like that everything... You thought he was going to do this in Malibu? No, I thought he would do what maybe bigger artists do where they'll do one quick one in New York.
Starting point is 00:03:52 Maybe they'll even show up. Probably not. And then they'll go to the L.A. one. Yeah, but the shows are here. Usually any other artists would do this at Hollywood Bowl. that's all I'm saying. Nah, I mean, well, of course. Maybe yes, but because it's a New York.
Starting point is 00:04:07 But I like that all three pop-ups are in New York. Not one in Atlanta. One in, like, just put everything in. I'm sure he'll do one because he's doing the L.A. show. Yeah. So I'm sure. I'm sure, of course there'll be something. But the reasonable doubt came out 30 years today as we're recording this.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I'm glad that it's in Brooklyn. It's in the city. Like, yeah, it's just the trains. Yeah. It's all the maps are for New York. Like, I just, appreciate that because it's been so long since we've had that. It's just fun to watch, man, because like you said, 30 years to see a lot of the people
Starting point is 00:04:41 that are at the pop-up events that are maybe 34, 35. You know what I'm saying? I'm 35. Yeah, and it's like to see that. It's like it speaks to just. So I'm 36, Jesus Christ. Well, yeah, I mean, the year's not out, so technically still 35. But, you know, it's just fun to see that because, again, the album being 30 years old,
Starting point is 00:05:00 A lot of the people that are at the events still in their 30s, who probably weren't old enough to really know what it was like when the album debuted. To see them just want to be a part of the album speaks to, one, the music, speaks to the artist, it speaks to its place and hip hop. So it's pretty cool to see everybody kind of like, you know, enjoying the moment, gearing up for the Yankee Stadium shows and things like that. But it's like, it also is like, damn, 30 years, like, shit. it also ages you too.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Like when you think about 30 years it's like I was pretty quick. Y'all old as fuck. Yeah, that was pretty fast. Yeah, but it's cool. I mean, I've just seen the videos of everyone at the one in the city today
Starting point is 00:05:43 and in Brooklyn. It's cool to see people outside and like buying hard copies. Just seeing that type of stuff is refreshing. That's all. I like that he's doing a lot but he's not doing too much. I think rapping the trains is super cool.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Obviously the Yankee Stadium thing is the Yankee Stadium thing. But just doing these merch pop with like collector item stuff like quality i mean i went to the friends and family one yesterday the merch is super quality like it's just cool to get people outside to celebrate something we all love that's all i thought about buying uh the vinyl crate what was the price point of it again i said i don't know if i'm giving jay 1500 though that's some it's some dope shit though all of jays music on vinals that's listen you know i mean dollars is a lot of money i don't care who you are
Starting point is 00:06:27 $1,500 a lot of money, but it's what, 13 albums? 13 albums, 444 for the first time on vinyl. That's, that price point kind of makes sense. Like, no, it makes sense. I saw people like, yo, what the fuck? I get it, but it is 13 albums. It makes sense, but I was looking at the crate and I'm like, some vinyl is 75 hours a piece.
Starting point is 00:06:47 I mean, if they've got a little more. It's plastic? It ain't leather. Well, it's supposed to be a crate, like. Yeah, like a DJ crate. Yeah. I mean, I hear you. Yeah, but they could have gave me a little more on the crate. though. Come on, Lenny, you could have gave us a little more in the crate.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Does the crate play me? Like is the, is the plate, a crate or two? No, that's where you hold the vinyl's at like a DJ. DJ holds us his vinals and crates. I'm digging through the crate. I still, I still, I have crates. Like, I have crates. Like, I understand. It doesn't look like just your regular crap. I'm sure it's a little bit more quality. They didn't get it from from Kifu. Yeah. I'm like, is it really the milk crate? They got some aesthetic to it. They got some, some cool aesthetic to it. But that was the one. I almost pulled the trigger on the $1,500 crate. I was like,
Starting point is 00:07:26 you know what this is some cool shit that kind of have I still might though yeah I don't know that's kind of fire I just wish the crate also like doubled as a player and then it would be worth the 1500 to me I have almost every vinyl I could just go get a crate for you spray paint anymore yeah but you can't get the Jay Z uh the 30 Peach can Photoshop that today
Starting point is 00:07:43 you can't get it on the crate like it's not gonna look as cool I'll get it but I'm definitely going I'm definitely going to uh CJ he got to sign all the vinyl for me though I'll pay the 1500 but Jay got to sign every vinyl that's yeah If we could set that up where we would have a quick moment for him to sign those, I'll pay the $15. Yeah, he got a sign that be vinyl.
Starting point is 00:08:03 And shit quick about signing 13 vinals for both for y'all. That's 26 vinals. It'd be, it'd take longer for them to just charge my credit card if I go and buy in that $1,500 case, I'll tell you that. So yeah, take your time, niggas. They didn't take their time when they charge this credit card. Sit down and take your time, sign each one of these vinals. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:20 And let me put that in the crib as a collector's edition, you know, as a collector's piece. Yeah, but, but yeah, I went to the, the, I guess, like, launch of the pop-up, because the pop-ups are today, but I went to the one yesterday. And I really enjoyed it. I mean, I guess it was also great to see, like, familiar faces. But we were all just talking about reasonable doubt. Because I was a little nervous. It was going to be one of those launched, like, it'll be 30 publicists drinking free duce.
Starting point is 00:08:46 And like, do I really want to go to Dumbo? So guru was DJing. Guru was DJing. Everyone was just talking about music. He was on the mic telling people to go vote. He did, he did do that. Of course he did. See where he don't invite us?
Starting point is 00:08:58 Like, you see where he don't invite us? He was invited in a group chat. We were invited together. You see where he don't invite me? I didn't want to, when. Invite me to mad bullshit, though. When Maul and I were invited, I didn't want to be the guy to then say, hey, can I also get an extra pass? I didn't want to be that guy, though.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Not in these circumstances. You have been that guy. Like, I'm your coworker, though. Like, I'm not just like some bitch you fucking. Like, I'm your coworker. Like, I'm the problem. If you was a bitch, he was fucking. I'd have been in that shit.
Starting point is 00:09:26 have been in there. You got to give up a little bit of home girl. Gotta give it some hold. That's all. A little hole. To go to the reasonable down. Not even the concert. To go purchase merch.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Yeah. It wasn't like, well, actually they gave us one free t-shirt. Just give us some hole. Not even, not even. $60 for a t-shirt. Not even the Yankee Stadium. Nah, no, no, no. Just give it some hole.
Starting point is 00:09:45 You go to the merch pop-up. That's crazy. Yeah. But no, it's cool. They had the Lexus out there as well. It's cool. I suggest. I think it's till, what, July, something?
Starting point is 00:09:55 I'm not sure. It's open for a little bit. Probably leading up to the shows. Yeah. If you're in, if you're in New York or in the area, I suggest going to the one
Starting point is 00:10:02 in the city or the one in Dumbo. Oh no, it's only today. The 25th to the 26th. Oh, to July 5th. All right, cool, yeah. Yeah, the merch is great.
Starting point is 00:10:10 One of Dumbo is to July 5th, yeah. If you're a Jay-Z fan, a lot of cool, memorabilia and shit, I suggest going. Yeah. Why'd you flake? I was outside.
Starting point is 00:10:21 I was like, yo, where's mall at? I was like a hour ago. He got flat tire. I'm gonna hold a flat, man, on the fucking west side, bro. Oh, yeah. Bro, you have a quarter. Better than the FDR. I'd rather, I'd rather catch a flat on the West Side Highway than that.
Starting point is 00:10:32 Because it's scenery? There's no, like, the FDR shoulders is like this big. West Side Highway, at least there's, like, kind of the park area. Yeah, but I wasn't near the shoulder. He was by Trump? No, I was by, I was right passing, uh, as soon as you pass, uh, Riverbank. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it gets skinny there.
Starting point is 00:10:49 You know what I'm saying? So it's like, yeah, no, the shoulder, you can walk to the shoulder if you once. But I was just like, yeah, man, I was just the worst night. And then I was really mad because after we found out Jay didn't perform. That was the only reason I was going.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Yeah, I was told that from somebody at Rock Nation. So I'm like, I was going to fucking merch pop up and Hove ain't even performing. Like, caught a flat. Well, he was there, but. I don't give a fuck if he was,
Starting point is 00:11:09 nigga, sing a tune, nigga. Sing a tune. Yeah. I don't care about you hanging out in front of merch. I was told by a Rock Nation employee that he was performing.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Then I walk in, I see Guru DJ. And I'm like, all right, we're about to get the intimate Hove performance. It's about to be ill. You thought he wasn't to perform next to guru.
Starting point is 00:11:25 Then I waited in line. It was, even though it was friends and family, the line to go by merch was insane to the point that I ended up saying, I'll get it online. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:33 And took my free t-shirt and was out after. Yeah. I wasn't waiting that long-ass line. So I'm Marissa Mendes. How's Marissa doing? She's doing good. She said to hit her up.
Starting point is 00:11:42 She told me to hit her up? Yeah, like in a good, like what was up? Yeah, she's, well, I guess it's okay. She moved back here. Okay. Yeah. She unfollowed me on social media.
Starting point is 00:11:49 She doesn't follow me too. I didn't really know the, uh... Yeah, so what you mean? Hit you up? Marissa, I didn't know if she hated me. Marissa, I'm not hitting you up. Fuck you. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:11:59 No, me and Mrs. We had a... I fuck, Marty. That's my nigga, man. Yeah, I know you. I know you're joking. But I don't think the listeners know that you're joking. My Marty is my people.
Starting point is 00:12:06 That's my dog. No, shout-outs. We love, we love Marty. Yeah. It was good to see her. She's back in New York? Mm-hmm. Dope.
Starting point is 00:12:11 We should have Monty on the show. We should definitely have Marty on the show. I would love to have my wrist on the show. Yeah, Mardi, we can have you on the show that you can follow me once you get here. I mean, follow me back once you get. Yeah, when we post the real, we could collab. Yeah, we'll do all of the things, Mardi.
Starting point is 00:12:23 We'll do all of the things. We'll collab on a post to let the people know that we're friends. Yeah, but that was my favorite person to see. That was the most surprising person. It was the usual faces there, but I saw her. I was like, oh, shit, Monty's here. I'm glad she's back in New York, man. That's good to know that she's back in the city.
Starting point is 00:12:40 I think her going to L.A. at the time was what she needed. She wanted to be in that space for... She was on L.A. train years ago. For sure. Yeah, she moved down. And what she was doing with writing and all that, like, it made sense. But I think, I think a lot of people that moved to L.A. at that time are now moving back. Like, that time has passed.
Starting point is 00:12:58 That's dope, man. Good to hear that, Mardi. We got Nandoz and reasonable doubt. Like, why wouldn't she be back? Marty. Nandoz, the city is back alive. The Knicks of champs. Mottie is back. Nandoz is here.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Jay Z. is here. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, the city feels like, New York feels like it's back. I told Deucey saved my life at a Walee show. That was gay, but it's so gay. It's okay. Oh, yeah, they said you was at the Walee show being a Knicks groupie. Like, that's what Sean said.
Starting point is 00:13:23 No, they didn't say Sean said it. You can say Sean Dickinson said that. But you know when one person said something. They said that. They said that. They said it. Yeah, you know. Reposted.
Starting point is 00:13:34 I posted it. I reposted. Sean's? Yep. Oh, you told about what Sean posted it. Yeah, he tagged me. I said, damn, yo, fuck going on. Ryan, I just, I just air dropped you.
Starting point is 00:13:44 a photo of me and Deuce if you want to pull that up just just to make them all uncomfortable. If you thought it was gay of me just saying that to Deuce, wait until you get the visual. Oh, the hold the hand dab, have a conversation. Oh, not a conversation. I'm just smiling in his face, like a proud mom.
Starting point is 00:14:07 That is so nasty, man. Deuce was at the Wale show and, okay. Where was the Walee show at? Brooklyn Paramount. Okay. Which is an amazing venue. Why did they start booing? That's no, deuce.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Deuce. Duce. Oh, okay. Yeah. Making shit. Makes sense. You think that a New York Nick would get booed in the back? No, I didn't.
Starting point is 00:14:25 I was confused. I thought they were like booing Rory in the back. Like, I didn't know why they were booing. Rory was. He wasn't on the same. And by the way, thank you for thinking I would be that important that people at a Walee show would kind of see me in the back and all start booing. I had no idea, but dues makes sense.
Starting point is 00:14:39 No, but all the non-New Yorkers that were like all. on side stage with us for like, why are they doing them? I'm like, see, this is why only I should be able to adapt to Zuse. Yeah. Okay, I did go from one side of the stage to the other to say hello to Zeus. I will admit I did do that. It's nice, but it's okay. My better help therapist was there as well.
Starting point is 00:14:57 She's working on the tour. Okay. And she said she was on that side of the stage. Okay. So I said, where are you at? So I use that as an excuse. Ah, got it. To go to go to that side.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Gotcha. And then me and Kaz, both as we were walking saying, hey, let's not even try to sugarcoat this. we have no shame. We are walking over to say hello to Deuce. And you should. He's a New York, Nick. He's a champion.
Starting point is 00:15:19 You should say hello to him. If it was mid-season and like the finals did not just happen, I would have never, I would have never done that. If it was after the NBA Cup, you did all of that. After the cup. That's disgusting. But after they got the Larry O'Brien, it's okay to go over and say what's up to Deuce. If this was the NBA Cup. If this was the NBA Cup.
Starting point is 00:15:34 You would have been nasty. But it's like they won it all. 53 years. You can absolutely go up to Deuce and get a flue. with him for sure. Yeah. No, it was cool that that Deuce was there. Somebody on Wiley's team showed me a text that said Jalen was on his way. And I was like, I started shaking. I was like, I don't know if I can. Jalen Brunson? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:54 Oh, okay. But only Deuce showed up. Okay. But the Wiley show was great. I don't think you guys have been seeing like the footage. He's been hacking out these shows. Yeah, I was mad. I would have went to that show. I enjoyed thousands of people. Yeah, I would have went to that show. I enjoyed Wiley's sets, man. So I would have went to the show, but I didn't even know he was in, um, I knew, because I saw, he was on tour, but I thought they was in, I guess whoever had posted it, I thought it was the D.C. show. That was two nights before
Starting point is 00:16:18 the... So by the time I saw it on my feet, I'm thinking... That DC show at like 5,000 people. That was crazy. That's what I'm saying. Like, I saw that. I was like, damn, that was crazy. Like, he is packing out these shows. That's dope, man. Shout out of wild. Who's on tour? Was Smino and... Smino opened you. Smino's on tour? Yeah. I'm not sure if it's certain
Starting point is 00:16:33 dates, so don't quote me, but Smino opened up. Saaba was there, too. Sabba was there, too. Tell him what's up, man. Good dude. Yeah, told Saavi, he got to come back on the show at some point. It was great. Wale brings them out. I will say, though, I don't think that New York crowd deserve that set. Why? I don't know if it's because maybe Wale fans are around my age.
Starting point is 00:16:55 But they just didn't have as much movement as I've seen in the past. Movement is so cool. The crowd? Yeah. They don't seem to be into the set. They were into. Like everyone was rapping every word singing, which I don't know. Maybe it's because it was so packed.
Starting point is 00:17:10 There just wasn't a lot of movement. That's all. What kind of movement? Did you want, did you want, like, twerking? Did you want, like, what time? You wanted it to look like an NBA Young Boy show? Somewhere in the middle of that, yeah. But that's not Wiley's music, though.
Starting point is 00:17:21 He has, when, shit, when no hands comes on, yeah, I want to see movement. Yeah, but everything, that's because at Palluzzi, y'alli, y'all turned that into a thing. No, that song was the thing before Palluzza. Yeah, but, I mean, y'all turned it into moving and going crazy when it came to. At a concert. I'm not saying a mosh pit, per se, but. I don't know. One of the Mosh pit at a Walee show is hilarious.
Starting point is 00:17:40 while they don't have Mosh Pip music That goes crazy Come on That deserves movement Did he perform clapas? I don't think so no Damn Which one is clapas?
Starting point is 00:17:50 Clappers to the front Okay okay What Shorty got a big old butt Oh yeah Yeah yeah yeah I don't think he did I will say though
Starting point is 00:18:00 What I thought was really cool About the show was The new album records Got the best reaction Which typically does not happen At this point in someone's career Because Wiley's been doing this for 15 years It means he's getting new fans.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Like the new records got crazy reaction. Where, of course, his hits did his hits, but they wanted to hear the new shit. He's getting new fans. That's good. Yeah. So I was happy to see that. But yeah, I was outside the past two days, guys. I see.
Starting point is 00:18:26 I see moving around getting your tan on. Yeah, you too look a little, I don't want to say brown, but. You got a little red. It's a red tent. It's never a brown tent. Yeah. Yeah. It's more like strawberry custard.
Starting point is 00:18:38 Yeah. Yeah. I know. I see you, man. What's funny is I really haven't been in the sun. I know you. You never just in the sun. All you got to do is walk outside and that's U-T and like.
Starting point is 00:18:48 Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, as soon as you go outside, you got to tear. Yeah, my freckles are starting to come back a little bit. But it's a lot going on, man. Summertime in New York, you know, that time of year. Got to pace myself, though. Yeah. These past two days kind of, you're doing it.
Starting point is 00:19:01 It's my second cup of coffee. I know, slow down. Yo, I walked in, he was knocked out on the couch. I said, well, I'm thinking in my head like, oh, he must have been up with tomorrow all night. No, I'm just tired. And what's funny is I left the Jay-Z pop-up early. Like, I didn't stay the whole time and I just went home.
Starting point is 00:19:15 Yeah, I'm just getting. 36 has been the first time I felt like an actual physical change in my body after a birthday. 36? 36. Okay. 35, I didn't feel it at all. Yeah. This is the first time I feel like a complete shift in my body after a birthday.
Starting point is 00:19:29 Yeah. Like. This is a matter of time you got to start stretching. Mm-hmm. In the morning. Better start stretching because you don't want to go to put on the sock and be out of commission. Yeah. For a week, throw your back up, putting on the sock.
Starting point is 00:19:39 I've been doing the track outside by my crib instead of the gym, which has been helpful. I think working out outside, like, running on a treadmill, I can't do too much. It hurts my knees too much. Yeah. It's boring. Like, I don't get excited for it. It's the boring in place. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:54 When you're outside, you kind of feel like you're moving. Yeah. Fresh air, son. It helps. But. Peach, where you been? You been outside? But Pete's got the Mickey Mantle gene. He'll go outside, but he'll hit the gym 7 a.m.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Yeah. Yeah, Pige's been locked in. Peach ain't been locked in. Peach bought two bagels to work today and just offered me one. It's locked in. It's locked in. That's what you call. That's Pige's locked in right there.
Starting point is 00:20:17 He's doing a bagel cleanse. He said buy one, get one. I'm like, he's doing a bagel, a bagel cleanse. He's on a bagel fast. You don't know the bagel fast? You know, every single. One of his juice cleanse. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Every single day. He says in there. We get a. Veggie cream cheese, bagel. Come on, man. Peach hit me up yesterday. He just sent me. a picture of a margarita.
Starting point is 00:20:40 I'm like, Peach, I'm not drinking for the next 30 days. Like I told you. You know, niggas, all they do is put the margarita in the sky and here come to Maris. Nah. Pooka smoking margarita. But I'm not...
Starting point is 00:20:49 I'm not... I'm not drinking for 30 days, but Pete... Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo. I'm tired of this 30-day reset. You keep throwing. No, you're not for real. I'm for real. I'm for real.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Maul, listen, this time, it's not because of hell. It's not because I need to stop drunk calling niggas. It's because I'm gaining weight again. And I'd be damned if these motherfucking podcast fans start calling me a fat bitch again. No.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Well, that's the best time of year when they start calling you a fat bitch. No, I'm cool, bro. I'm 30 days. I need to stop. With the Knicks, like, I was so every other day, the Knicks, she was drunk every other day. I was so ready for the fucking finals to end. It's just no drinking.
Starting point is 00:21:20 It's no drinking. Yeah, for 30 days. I love that you think that the podcast fans have irrational thoughts that no matter what your appearance is. They're going to say negative things. Yeah, but I don't want to agree with them. Okay, all right. I don't want them nicks to have a point.
Starting point is 00:21:35 I'm cool. They can call me that, but knowing it's not true. Yeah, but I'm cool. I gained five pounds. And since March, I'm cool. Okay, so cut the lookout for 30 days. Let's see what you like. Peach kept trying to hang with me on June team.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Like, he, like, multiple times he kept hitting me. I said, Pete, you're white. Like, I'm not hanging with you on June team. Well, that's when you're supposed to hang with the white. Yeah. On June team. And let them pay for everything. You know what?
Starting point is 00:21:57 I wasn't even reparation. Yeah. I wasn't even. Baby D. I was tripping. And he can do the, what they do with the protests where they all, like, got down and bowed for like,
Starting point is 00:22:05 yeah, you got to get with the kintake cloth on one knee. Yeah. That's what he's trying to do. That was such a sick time. That was a sick time.
Starting point is 00:22:13 That was a sick time. That kentai cloth was crazy. The kentai cloth on one knee. Nancy Pelosi, man. Jesus Christ. That was sick. In history,
Starting point is 00:22:22 they won't believe that that. They're going to think that that's AI. Of course. Like, in the future, they're going to think that that's AI. They're like, there's no way that this was real.
Starting point is 00:22:29 That did absolutely nothing for us. With a mask half on. It didn't have nothing for us. Yo. Sick times. You didn't feel empowered? No. Actually turned the channel and went back to watch whatever the fuck I was watching.
Starting point is 00:22:42 No, I'm just happy to the people that actually have the power to change things did this instead. Yeah. Come on, man. Like, bitch, not insider trading. Like, we don't give a fuck about it. Get off your fucking knee and get back to work. I pulled up on Nancy Pelosi Street right now. She's calling the police.
Starting point is 00:22:59 Right now. Just out of the street. 100%. I'm just looking. I'm lost. 100%. somebody else's house and I just drop-ass Nancy Pelosi's yard. She's calling the police without it up.
Starting point is 00:23:09 That shit. But, you know, Kente can't take scarfing one knee. Chuck Schumer has on a mask and he's giving us the Vulcan's hand signal. I don't know what that is. Sick times. Sick times we're living in, man. Sick fucking time. Well, can y'all explain to me what's going on with the NBA right now, NBA for
Starting point is 00:23:27 girlies? I mean, it's that time. Yeah, draft season. Shout out to all the new NBA players that have been drafted. Shout out to AJ DeBanza, who went number one, Peach. Yes, or Dan Peterson from Kansas going number one. I told him that. YU.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Shout out to the Miami Heat. They got Yonis now. I don't know if that does anything for the heat. I was going to ask you that. Like, great. He's in better weather. Is this going to change anything for the heat? Well, yeah, it will.
Starting point is 00:23:54 I mean, anytime you can get Yonis, you get Yonis, no matter what. But I just don't know if that's a nut. Now, they will be one of the teams that. the defending champ, New York Knicks will have to get through in the East. But I just don't know, man. I don't know if that brand of basketball that they have now with their starting five is enough to get it done. I just don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:18 I don't know if they have enough shooters. I don't know if they have. They obviously have the size and athleticism, but I just don't know if they have enough shooters. Yeah. I'm not saying they can't eventually get there. I just don't think. They're going to be tough. Next season is going to be.
Starting point is 00:24:31 They'll be all right. Yeah. No, they're going to be real good. Listen, man, Janice is still a very, very high-calible player, high-caliber talent. So, you know, the heat have definitely, you know, loaded up their roster. I mean, you put him next to Bam and, you know, Andrew Wiggins. They got a good team. I like the young garbage kid Mitchell.
Starting point is 00:24:51 Davian Mitchell. I like Davian Mitchell. Norman Powell, right? Norman Powell's down there. I like the heat. They got a good team. But I just don't know if that's enough. But, you know, once Janus went.
Starting point is 00:25:03 that's the domino effect. Now other teams have to make a move. Lamello ball went to Minnesota. I don't know if that's enough out of Minnesota for him and Edwards to get out of the West. I'm novice. I'm novice with NBA knowledge compared to media personalities.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Very novice. I'll admit that. This, to me, though, looks like one of the dumbest trades I've seen in Quaismet. Lamello? I like Lamello. I think Lamello is amazing.
Starting point is 00:25:29 I don't think anyone needs to confirm that. But what the fuck is Minnesota? Minnesota doing. They got rid of both their bigs in two days. Yeah. Yo, they got fleeced. Who did they get rid of that? Charlotte got the best end of that deal.
Starting point is 00:25:45 Like, by far. They're going to be eating off this deal for years. They got a bunch of picks. A shit ton of picks. Yeah, I mean, I... Lamello wasn't working out. Lamello can't stay healthy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Like, what is Minnesota doing? If you kept Julius, I could see this making some sense. Yeah. Some sense. But this is not as I was watching ESP this morning, looks like the Timberwolves are trying to win now. Win when?
Starting point is 00:26:13 Win now? I'm going to be real. I don't know when Anthony Edwards contract in Minnesota's up. I don't see him sign in a long-term extension when it's up, though. I don't see him staying in Minnesota after this. And maybe they're going to make more moves because I think this gets executed in July. 2029, so you got three years left?
Starting point is 00:26:32 Yeah, I don't think. kill. They just have to bring in some big, I just don't know if Ant and Lamello just get it done. No, no, no, no. That's not. I just don't. They did.
Starting point is 00:26:42 They need to make some more. Who plays defense on that roster right now? Yeah, they need to make some more moves. I mean, it's thoroughly. Summer's just starting, so they got time. But, you know, the NBA is going to look very different. It started the season. A lot of, a lot of pieces are moving around.
Starting point is 00:26:57 So, yeah, we just have to see where everybody lands. But, you know, it started. Yeah. Once Yianis was gone. everybody else has to make moves after that. So that's the, that's the state of the NBA right now. But again, congrats to all of the new class of 2026. Excited to see what AJ does down in Washington.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Yeah. With Trey Young and AD if AD can stay healthy down there. And to see what Darren Peterson's going to do. I like Darren Peterson's game. But I told Pige, AJ DeVanser was the number one draft pick. And he was. Shout out to the Wizards. Yeah, Wally did the voiceover for his shoe.
Starting point is 00:27:33 like backstage. Oh, yeah? For the, I don't know if the trailer came out yet, but yeah. And he was at the Barclays, like with him and then ran to the show. Yeah, I like all the D.C. stuff. No, the Wizards. The Wizards got a hell of a play, man. I think AJ's going to have a great career.
Starting point is 00:27:46 No, I agree. So Ryan have brought up, like, the odds of, like, who is most likely to win the NBA finals for the sports betting books and things like that. They have the line out already? And obviously Miami went up because of the trade. So they have Oklahoma. City Thunder as number one, San Antonio Spurs, Celtics, Knicks, and then the heat. Were the Pacers like an anomaly that year that they?
Starting point is 00:28:13 They just had a lot of injuries after still. It's shaky. That's why. Oh, no, I fucking hate the Pacers. So I don't ever want to see players get injured, but I'm not upset. You know, the Pacers, you know. They're a great team. But yeah, they just, they had some unfortunate injuries.
Starting point is 00:28:28 And it's been tough for them to get back. But I'm not, that odds make sense. I mean, even though we just won, I still think if you're looking on paper, the Celtics are still the Celtics. So that makes sense. The bucks turning down that Jalen Brown deal was crazy. I couldn't believe they did that.
Starting point is 00:28:46 How do you think Jalen Brown feels? They've been trying to ship him away for three season. Imagine trying to break up with your girl three times and then you still have to live together because it just didn't work out. And now she knows that you've been trying to break up with her for three years in a row. But you know what it is. Like, other teams are just, they look at Jalen like he could be a headache.
Starting point is 00:29:06 Because, you know, he's very outspoken, hell of a player. But he's just, you know, he brings a different tone. Outspoken, going to speak his mind, going to tell you exactly how he's feeling. And a lot of teams, you know, they like to stay away from players like that. Well, I have to say shut up and dribble, but that is essentially what teams prefer. I'm happy, honest, to not go to the Celtics for everyone's sake. I'm very happy about that.
Starting point is 00:29:38 I thought he was going to Boston. I ain't going to lie. That would have sucked. That would have sucked for all of us. But if you get Boston, Miami, weather, you know. And believe it or not, Miami has good Greek food. We have the best up here, but Miami has really good Greek food. A lot of culture down there in Miami, for sure.
Starting point is 00:29:53 So they even have like halal carts and shit? Yeah. You think that's what got them down there? You think that's what made it? Was the Euro? He's like a... The Euros got him down there. The Euros on South Beach.
Starting point is 00:30:05 They're pronounced gyro. And no one will ever tell me different. Yeah, I was wondering what the fuck he was talking about. Then I realized he was really how you're supposed to pronounce it. He thinks you heard about the Euros on South Beach? They're not bad. But he's a disciplined player. So no, I don't think the nightlife got him out there.
Starting point is 00:30:21 He don't go outside. So yeah, I thought maybe the halal car got him there. I think it was the weather. Just a guess. It might have been the weather. Yeah. No. I finally got through tomorrow, but Ryan, Pige, Demaris, Kyle in the back,

We go beyond the game to the people and the stories that make it great.
Starting point is 00:32:32 A soccer game is a festival. It's not just a game. It's your culture. I took an elbow to my head, which cracked my skull. It is an American game. The Brazilians don't like hearing that, though. Are they the only ones that don't like that? Nobody likes that. As we get ready for the Men's World Cup this summer,

Starting point is 00:35:08 do anything over this week? No I was the only one being a whore no man I didn't do much home
Starting point is 00:35:15 same I went to it's just parked by the crib that one of my neighbors had been telling me about. So I finally went over there. Real nice park, man. You was watching the bad bitches walk day dogs.
Starting point is 00:35:26 No, no, no. I was literally just in the park. I couldn't believe it was so close to my crib and I didn't know about it. It's like a really nice park. Like, right on the water. She was fire. I was like, damn, I ain't know this was right up, right up the block from the crib. You got to explore.
Starting point is 00:35:39 So yeah, I was out there and, you know, and that was it in the crib telling me. Just go out there and like sketch and draw and try to find like. Took a walk there a couple laps. You know what I'm saying? Up and down. Gotcha. Yeah, it was cool. I was watching a Lincoln lawyer.
Starting point is 00:35:51 I watched two seasons. Oh, I watched. I will find you on Netflix. Did you see that yet? Oh, yeah, I got to watch. I will find you on Netflix. I need a show for this weekend. Oh, man, you're going to binge this one.
Starting point is 00:36:02 This was a good one. This was a good series based on a guy who was wrongfully accused of killing his kid, imprisoned. Don't spoil it. I'm not going to spoil nothing, but it was, you know, he's in prison for his son's murder. he received some information that his child may still be alive
Starting point is 00:36:23 which prompted him to escape prison and try to find the truth of what was going on Gray series, eight episodes I think y'all binged this over the weekend He just casually escapes prison Not can he had some
Starting point is 00:36:35 He's like, you know I heard he's alive Let me get out of here I mean you know how it goes He has he has some inside help Took Andy Duframne 20 years To dig that hole He had some inside help But yeah it was great great show on Netflix
Starting point is 00:36:46 I will find you So if you get a chance this weekend, check that, I'll binge that. Sounds like my speech for sure. So we can come back in Monday and talk about it. Did you see any of the Nix trash cans in your new park? No. No Nix trash cans. I think that's only a Manhattan thing, right?
Starting point is 00:37:02 Well, yes, it's a Manhattan thing, but specifically J.P. Morgan Chase Manhattan situation. Okay. Why has this become like a story? Because I saw, for those that haven't seen, but I'm sure you have, because, again, this has become like headline new. there was a woman that was at the parade that dumped out a shit ton of trash to steal the
Starting point is 00:37:24 limited edition Nick's trash cans that lined around the parade. It started out everyone, unfortunately, just making fun of her appearance. And then they found her identity. And it ended up that she worked at J.P. Morgan. And now she has been fired from her job for dumping out this trash can and taking it. Now, I think you're a fucking asshole. If you dump out a bunch of trash for sanitation and then have to pick up, I think that's a real dick move.
Starting point is 00:37:54 I don't think you're a good person for doing that. But part of me, with the atmosphere of being at that parade around Knicks fans, maybe I've had a couple drinks, I'm not saying I'm above doing something like this. So I'm not here to judge this woman the way everyone has been tearing her apart. If I'm in the right environment, if I'm with my God brothers, I'm doing this 100%. The crazy shit is, is I literally remember when they first posted about the trash cans before the parade. Everybody literally said, oh, I'm going home with one of those. Like, that's what everybody was saying is, oh, yeah, I'm going home with one of those.
Starting point is 00:38:29 She's the only nigger real enough to do it. And now everybody was talking about her. But also, I've seen a lot of people like supporting her like, and I would have did it too. Like as much as I do want to sound like I'm that good New Yorker that thinks that this is awful to our service workers and what they have to do. There's already enough trash, this and that. My dad, when you could still get knives into Yankee Stadium, opening day, they put the bunting.
Starting point is 00:38:54 My dad and his friends cut all the bunting off and stole it all. It's hanging in his basement. Yeah, but this is like still in a trash can. It's just crazy. And everyone was like, well, they're selling them now. In her defense, she didn't know they were going to end up selling them now. And I know we're probably the only platform that's been defending this woman because everyone has been tearing her the fuck apart. I'm just saying I think a lot of you are lying and would have done the same fucking thing.
Starting point is 00:39:21 And now, she was a lot of people didn't do it. No, a lot of people were not on camera doing it. She was the only one on camera. I'm sure other people did that. You think all those trash cans was just chilling for sanitation to come pick up? No. I'm sure people dragged them with the trash. Still in the trash can from the streets of Manhattan.
Starting point is 00:39:39 Put in your crib is fucking crazy. Okay, but to be fair. No, it's crazy. It is crazy, but to be fair, it's not like it's a trash can that's been out there for fucking a month, years. It was out there for two hours. It was out there for two hours. Like, it was a brand new fucking trash can. Not a lot of food.
Starting point is 00:39:53 It was around that area. It's probably a lot of cups. A lot of food. You saw much trash was on the floor that she dumped it? Yeah, but it's like, it just looked like, I don't know. Like, it all was like bottles and shit. It's half eating burgers and shit in there. Like, you put, nah, man, it ain't that serious.
Starting point is 00:40:08 It's never that serious. It's not that serious. But I don't think she's crazy for what she does. But I know people in their own homes that don't actually clean their trash cans that regularly. No. They got nasty ass trash cans. Yeah, but at least it's your trash. What that means?
Starting point is 00:40:21 What does that mean? That's Manhattan's trash. For two hours at a parade of burgers and bottles. The trash I'm making in my house versus the trash of just random people, man. No. I got a more of shit in my trash. I don't think they let like crackheads in the parade. Some crackheads are kind of clean.
Starting point is 00:40:40 Where to fuck you then the crackheads was at? That's the living room. Yeah, but you had... Wall Street. Oh, yeah. No, there are some crackers. Yeah, but you had to get through. Like, you know, you couldn't just...
Starting point is 00:40:49 The parade was tight. The parade, no, it wasn't. Imagine waiting. This nigga that had been sleeping there for two years was sleeping there the day of the parade. Imagine waking up and not knowing that it was about to be a parade. Probably thought you were still losing. And they get mad at people for people.
Starting point is 00:41:03 Fuck y'all doing my house. Yeah, nah, she's tripping, though, man. All right, do you think, uh... I don't think she deserved to lose her 120. $140,000 a year job for it. Fired for that? She shouldn't have been acting like a fucking animal. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:19 That's the thing about being representation for a company, man. And people are like, oh my God, I can't believe she got fired. I can definitely believe she got fired. That was crazy. Doing it on camera is crazier. Is climbing light poles? Isn't that a fine, a ticket? No.
Starting point is 00:41:34 Right now, I could... She had to return on top of a cop-up. She had to return the trash can? Yeah, she got fined. $75 for littering. How did they find her? And $100 for Like, that had to be a co-worker.
Starting point is 00:41:50 That had to be a coworker though. Everyone was, you know the internet. It became trending to make fun of her, which I'm saying it, it started really unfortunate. That's why I got popular. Well, everyone's clowning how she looked. You have an internet algorithm.
Starting point is 00:42:01 I didn't see anybody making fun of her. I saw everybody like making fun of what she was doing, but I didn't really see anybody. So, but you know the internet always takes it too far. So some people make jokes and some people will see that and with their internet brain they're like I need to find her mother's maiden name so that's what they did and then they posted her name where she worked and now here we are now jp morgan has to for all the things that jp morgan chase employees do let's fire this woman yeah but i get it
Starting point is 00:42:33 i get what to bad representation that look that's bad representation on the no no it is i get that I'm just saying like, that's a pebble in the glass house of J.P. Morgan is all I'm saying. Oh, yeah. But you know, they was waiting for a reason. They was waiting for a reason. They was trying to get rid of her. Oh, my God. They was waiting for a reason.
Starting point is 00:42:49 They was like, we got to stealing trash cans in Manhattan. We got to get out of here. That shit is so scary. The internet is so scary with that. Like, even with this Love Island person, but she's a racist asshole. So she just deserves that. But people, she was. She out here calling people niggers.
Starting point is 00:43:05 First of all, that's a Snapchat. So if you're not, she was. So if you guys don't know, there's the show Love Island, biggest show in the world. There was a bombshell that entered the villa. Her name was Alana. A bombshell. That's what they called them. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:43:17 I don't know. All of them are called bombshells? The ones that like enter like the new girls. Like they throw girls in the middle of. You were like she's so hot. They throw people in them. They'll have the main cast. A busty blonde bombshell.
Starting point is 00:43:31 And then they'll throw people in like to throw off the connection. Got it kind of like. Got it. So Alana. an intern and she, I think she might have been on the show for like 48 hours in. The night it aired. The night, her episode aired. But it all isn't kind of real time though, right? Yeah. It's like just a day delay. It's like a day or two delay. Yeah. And she was acting weird towards the black guys.
Starting point is 00:43:53 Like she was all over the white guys, but like the black girl, she was like, uh, don't grab me, don't touch me. And they were like, she's racist. The Love Island fans were like, she's racist and weird, looked her up and boom, her tea is spill. She'd been saying, nigger. They got screenshots from like Snapchat, using a hard ER. And then that nigger literally tried to flirt with me. Nigger hard ER is crazy. So my guess is she now, someone has a go fund me and she's probably raised over $400,000, right? For herself?
Starting point is 00:44:21 Oh, I don't know about that. Because that's usually what happens. Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. No, they're going, they're going to give. She might. She's a national hero. She might be 12 million hours by the end of the week.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Mm-hmm. So, yeah. She's out of here. She's out of here. So did you get voted off? No, she didn't get voted off. She got removed. Okay, I was about to ask, did it happen because of the show stuff or because of this?
Starting point is 00:44:44 No, she was only, her episode was only, it aired that night. And they had her kicked off by the next day. Got it. Like, you can't do anything. Did Love Island, did they release a statement? I don't, I don't think they release. I don't know if they released a statement. Love Island gets people out of here.
Starting point is 00:44:59 They got to release a statement and say how sorry they are. No, they get people out of here. Does someone just die on their set? they're one of their producers for a health reason but like one of the girls had to go because she said she had chinky eyes
Starting point is 00:45:13 they get people out of here for anything bro they don't play that shit wait what one of the girls says she had chinky eyes like she said my like there was a post to her saying she had chinky eyes it took me years to realize
Starting point is 00:45:26 that that was a slur I know the slur but I never even put two and two together me either because that was a black girl that was a thing we used to like say. I heard that all my life and I never realized. I was like, oh yeah, that's a slur. And it derives from that.
Starting point is 00:45:40 I never even put those two together. You can't say chinky eyes? No. Well, once you're aware of it, you shouldn't say it. Now that you know. Yeah, it's racist. Chinky eyes has always been a racist thing. I never knew that. Yeah, I never knew it either. I didn't either, but once someone said it, I
Starting point is 00:45:55 made sense to me. It made sense. Yeah. It's like, okay. That makes sense. When you guys hear chinky eyes, like, do you get, like, offended? like with your grandma? You can see why someone would, yeah. Yeah, I never, because when I was growing up as a black girl,
Starting point is 00:46:12 I was like a compliment. I never knew that was a, like chinky eyes. Like you have like exotic looking eyes. Yeah. I never, never knew. So that's, Alana was getting that off too? No, that was a different love island.
Starting point is 00:46:25 Because I said, I was just showing there. You're like, you got nigger eyes. It's like, it don't really. Well, I don't think anyone's comparing those two slurs, but they are both slurs. They're not comparable. It would be like saying you got niggil lips. Okay.
Starting point is 00:46:41 Even if niggil lips are beautiful. Right. It's still. Okay. I understand. Yeah. I get it. I get how.
Starting point is 00:46:50 You're disappointed now that you can't use that term that you rarely. Yes. My vocabulary is so limited. So one thing I will say is. How am I even supposed to describe things? A lot of my favorite shit I can't even say no more. One thing I will say. Like, I can't say.
Starting point is 00:47:03 I can't say like, okay. You're going to miss that. One word you can't say now. Like, it's, just let it go. Oh, man. I don't think that people should be punished for using words when they don't know that there's a negative connotation to them. I think intent matters. Like, I don't think you should be, you should lose your, use brand deals for saying chinky eyes when growing up, you were told that that was a good thing.
Starting point is 00:47:26 Yeah, I never. I never. So. Like, once we had this comment, like, I understand. Like, okay, I get it. Yeah. Yeah, that growing up, like, that was the thing. It was just like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:34 oh, she has chinky eyes. We has chinky eyes. Like, not realizing like, oh, shit. That's a... It comes from the word. Root word chink. Right, right. I know.
Starting point is 00:47:44 We knew that part. Yeah, you. You didn't have to lean into that. We knew what the root word. No, I'm not leaning in. I'm just saying. I put like a little emphasis on that. You put like, and I don't think you put a hyphen on it.
Starting point is 00:47:51 I don't even know how you did that. Well, Tamara, since you are our senior love island correspondent. I don't even watch the show. Oh, never mind. I was going to say, who do we think's going to win here? Oh, I don't know. I don't watch that damn show. You don't watch Love Island?
Starting point is 00:48:06 We had a whole conversation about that where I told you, I think that that shit is the fucking young Gen Z version of Baddies. It's like the less ghetto version of Baddies. It's the same shit. I like I love Baddies, boy. It's a little more ghetto way they tongue each other down. Baddies is my shit. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:48:23 So Alana was not the bombshell that Love Island thought more of a leaflet. They got her out. But I was just, it's crazy how people wait and like pray on your downfall coming from the JP Morgan thing. People wait for any way to find something to get you to fuck out. I think that that's sick. Like, people are trying to like, well, I mean, if you're a racist, you're racist, whatever. But people are trying to, like, support their families and people will sort of be and look for anything you've ever did in your entire life to, like, get you canceled.
Starting point is 00:48:50 That shit is insane. Yeah. No, that's the world was the thing. I just don't, like, I feel like if I was at my desk and saw my employee dump out a trash can, I'd be like, you're a dick. And then I'd move on with my day. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:01 That'd probably be as far as it. Unless she was a bitch. at work and then I mean, you know. I still, no, I still wouldn't. Yeah, not over dumping trash out, but I get why J.P. Morgan did it though. Yeah, no, for sure. Um, all right, we can move on to music. We know, you know, I've had some issues with complex in the past with lists until they became the greatest platform of all time when they made us, what are we, number seven? Who's counting? Yeah. Thank you, Ryan. So, so nothing bad to say. about Complex and lists and shout out to them.
Starting point is 00:49:39 But Billboard now has picked their 50 best songs of 2026. Already? And I'm... We're in June. Halfway. Oh, halfway. So far, yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:49:54 All 50 of these are better than... Will you still be mine? Well, who? Rory featuring Lucky Day. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, these are getting... All 50 of these are better than still be my. freestyle is cooking. I was shaking on my way to work today.
Starting point is 00:50:09 Yeah. Shaking. I was dumping out trash cans on my walk. I was, I was going nuts. Oh my God, they have BBB on here. I love that. I love that. I love when they get it right. They didn't get it right. BBB is such a good song. I'm not saying it's not. I'm just saying they still didn't get it right though. Like look at the rest of the list. Don't just look at one song and say all they go. Well, I'm only look. All I see is what they have for rappers. So for rap, they have at number seven Roots Freestyle, which is not a song, but whatever. No, no, no, no, no. We, we, we, we big up JZ. Everyone knows we love Jay-Z, but we can be objective on this fucking podcast. That's not a
Starting point is 00:50:40 song. Why the fuck is the Roots freestyle on the best songs of 2020s? Can we look up what the definition of a song is? If it was a best poetry slam, I'm with y'all. If it was a freestyle over a beat, I'm with show. Spoken word is not a song. At all. At fucking all, literally. A song is a short musical composition performed by the human voice. typically featuring melody and lyrics. There was no melody. There was no music. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:13 But one would say Jay is the melody. Who's the one that would say that? Bill Board. No, you don't know. Who's the one that's saying that? Yeah, that was, that's pandering. I mean, of course it definitely had impact, but it's not a song. Jay's hair had more impact than the song.
Starting point is 00:51:31 We got a documentary about the hair. We didn't get a documentary about the song. Like, what do we stop calling the song? us. Number 13, Girl Get Up by Dochy and Siza, which is an amazing song that didn't get the credit. It deserves. Number 18, Shabang by Drake. Number 30, motion party by boss Mandilo. Number 32, E85 by Don Tolliver. Number 36, way higher. Good Flirts by Baby Kim, Kendrick Lamar, and one more boy. That should be lower. Number, number 39, stay here for life. Asap Rocky and Brent Fires. Number 43, BBB, Juvenile and Megan Estalian.
Starting point is 00:52:07 And number 50, runway, Dochi and Lady Gaga. Well, number one is Olivia Rodriguez, The Cure. It's a cool song. Two, Ariana Grande, I hate that I made you love me. As a Grande fan, it's cool. Number two of the year? No. No.
Starting point is 00:52:29 Like, it's cool. I thought it was, when I was driving to Philly, I was going through new music, probably when I was on my way to Roots Picnic to go see the number seven song of the year. I was going through new music playing shit and I like Ariana Grande so I clicked the song and I was like
Starting point is 00:52:42 oh this feels like a Lucy like oh she just gave us a little number yeah the number two song of the year not even close Pink Panthers State side of remus
Starting point is 00:52:53 I like that song I think it's cool It's not the number three songs No Olivia Dean so easy to fall in love If that's the case Then make that number one You can make a case
Starting point is 00:53:01 If that's the case Then make that number one Which one? Olivia Dean So easy Oh yeah That's a great song That's a great record.
Starting point is 00:53:08 Casey Musgraves' Drive Spell? I'm admittedly, I don't know the song. Yeah, I'm not going to know the majority of the songs. Delikee, I love it. I love it. Maybe if I heard it. I got to go to urban outfits and just chill for like, just open your Shazam?
Starting point is 00:53:20 Yeah, just for four hours and just walk around. I'm like, this is a billboard list. We need the whites to tell us, like, if they got it right or not. I didn't know Bruce Springsteen dropped new music. Like, my dad didn't send me that Google alert. Yeah. Yo, from the Roots Picnic freestyle, it's only one line I could quote. From that whole thing.
Starting point is 00:53:36 The roots remember even when the trees forget. Literally the only bar. Great. I can't tell you anything else from that. Well, Billboard says it's funny how one verse could fuck up the game. That's a Jay's line. That's a line J-Rap towards the end of his classic B-side imaginary players. And it still rings true following his headline making appearance going
Starting point is 00:53:58 Acapella at the May Roots picnic in Philadelphia. Jigga had everyone talking about who he dissed and why for like two weeks. week straight and yet it still seems like only yesterday when he got on that stage in front of that crowd and showed them who was who and what was what. Who wrote that? That's from, that's, that's from, that's from, that's from, I'm saying, who wrote that? That's from the intro of a jail. Are you just saying that?
Starting point is 00:54:24 No. Of course it was Angel D.S. I'm not a rapper. I'm a hustler. Just so happens I know how to rap. Meanwhile, Dame Deachosch O'Skino, Nikki Minaj were the only ones to respond in some How come cheap teeth didn't make the list? It's a song.
Starting point is 00:54:43 It is a song. So that way it qualifies more than the freestyle. All right. Cheap Teeth is number seven. Cheap Teeth is number seven of the year. Billboard replaces simulation, man. In any event, the rest of this year should be way more interesting thanks to this still never officially released freestyle.
Starting point is 00:55:02 That's lazy. I see, but you're just trying to, you know, make a list so we're talking about it because I probably wouldn't. talking about most of this. Yeah. That's what I'm. You gotta put those in there. Objectively, Drake,
Starting point is 00:55:13 Shabang, I think should be higher. And I'm not saying this as a joke by any means whatsoever, Demaris. Young Miami should be on this fucking list.
Starting point is 00:55:25 The young Miami song, yeah. What number is dying on this hill? 22. That should be way higher. Why do we think Young Miami didn't make this? Because it's billboard. But it's charting, too.
Starting point is 00:55:37 It is charing. If you could put a freestyle there, you could put possibly song of the summer up there, no? It's a billboard list. Yeah, I know who the audience is. So. But I mean, you have, yeah, and you have, like, there are rap songs on the list.
Starting point is 00:56:01 There are seven of this, what, eight or nine of them out of 50? I know, and I'm saying that should make it out of all of them, like. The top songs. It just charted at 43. It's not going to make the top songs. even though it is charting higher than some of these. Boss man Dilo on there. Like young Miami can't make it?
Starting point is 00:56:19 First of all, that's a huge, huge song. I know. I'm not saying it should be there. Oh, I'm not saying it's a motion party. You cannot get in. It's like one of the biggest songs also. No, I agree it should be on there. But I'm replying to you saying it's Billboard.
Starting point is 00:56:31 You know their audience. That song's audience is no different than that Young Miami song. But that Young Miami song is very, very new. Jay Z, they just said it feels like yesterday. Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. The rest of those songs.
Starting point is 00:56:46 Ignore Jayzy. The rest of those songs have been going for a while. That's why. The rest of those songs have been going for a while. Ignoring Jayzy. Look at where we're at with music. I'm arguing to take Jayzy off a list so Young Miami can get that slide. She posted us.
Starting point is 00:57:02 I saw you in the comments. She did. Young Miami posted who? She reposted our clip talking about her having a song in the summer. Oh, okay. Shout to Young Miami. The record. They just called this.
Starting point is 00:57:13 haters in the comment. P said no J. Cole. Oh. Which song from the fall off would you think would make it? Like the standout song? For me it would be who the fuck you do. Would be the one that I would think would make it. Okay. If they knew
Starting point is 00:57:30 the music that they're supposed to know it would be Bunt's Roll Blues, but they don't know that. So this is going off of what I'm assuming is numbers. What the fault? I knew that was going to. With the fall of, did they really do like a focus track post release? No.
Starting point is 00:57:46 Not to say that I mean, Cole is at a point. The one they leaked. The one they leaked. Yeah, no. That was part of the rollout. I mean, Cole is at a point his career doesn't need to do focus
Starting point is 00:57:57 tracks after. But yeah, I mean, I guess organically Shabang or Janice kind of did that with Drake. But yeah, I'm kind of shocked they didn't try to do some type of focus. Not straight up like
Starting point is 00:58:12 Spotify, hot 100. But like, here's something we're going. Cole was going to perform it when he was at the college campuses or like, we'll shoot a separate visual for it or it'll be part of the doc. To me it gave like, here y'all, here go to this damn album, leave me alone for a long time.
Starting point is 00:58:28 That's what it gave to me, the falloff. Like, he just wanted to be left alone. Wait, what? There was no push, heavy single push. Obviously you advertised the album as a whole. He drove from here to Seattle in the fucking honor. To advertise the album, yes, but there was no post single push, post music video push, post.
Starting point is 00:58:48 There was none of that. After he did that, the college tours, the album was out. He did a couple, like, you know, the obvious press. He went and played with the Monkey Kings. That has nothing to do with him releasing music. Colby was trying to play basketball for years. There's nothing to do with him releasing music. He did not push a single for this album.
Starting point is 00:59:07 He did not do that. So you're saying this is Jay Cole's head, a nigga damn album? No, it's just like. I feel like he just wanted to be left alone after that. Like, it's out, it's a weight off my shoulders, it's done, I connected with the fans, I'm good, leave me alone. Not like we're gonna keep pushing this album all year.
Starting point is 00:59:22 That's what it gave. Well, the ones that have- He's going on tour, though, right? Yes, the tour starts soon, actually. Yeah, I think it starts, like, within the next few weeks. Or so, yeah. Well, according to traffic on Apple Music, and again, take some of this with a grain of salt,
Starting point is 00:59:36 because typically no matter what, the first few records get there. Two-six safety, run a train, poor thing uh Buncher blues who the fuck is you Boms Boms like the one
Starting point is 00:59:50 yeah and I would say Who the fuck is you was probably that because it's in the middle of the album or bombs in the bill because it's at the end
Starting point is 00:59:55 and it still has traffic yeah but I mean maybe we might yeah I don't know but yeah
Starting point is 01:00:03 he didn't really push a single so I don't think Drake pushed a single either I think the ones that caught just kind of like
Starting point is 01:00:10 caught naturally but yeah y'all really feel like Lana Delroyd White Feathered Hawktail Deer Hunter is better than my record I've never heard it I'm sure it is I don't even know what song you're talking about
Starting point is 01:00:24 you guys think Caitlin butts never really mine is better than still be mine that shit is butts I don't know what you're talking about I don't know any of these songs exactly and I'm sure they're fine I didn't know there was like this much pop music out there
Starting point is 01:00:44 because usually like... I told you got to go to urban outfit is for like four hours just look at all the t-shirts. Well, obviously with streaming everything became sub-genres too like hip-hop, you don't have to be a charting billboard person to have a great career. You can be underground and still be successful. I didn't know it was that way with pop too.
Starting point is 01:01:00 Before you knew all the pop songs. I didn't know there's underground pop. Yeah. But that's not underground. It's not underground. It's just... By pop standards, though? I feel like pop standards are like everybody know that.
Starting point is 01:01:11 song. They either love it or hate it, but they know it. I think those are like mega star pop. But like there's just like regular like pop music. Just like we have regular rap music that like isn't underground. But Billboard don't know the fuck up who the fuck it is. Like. Yeah, but like I feel like when J-Co drops, not everyone knows the song whether they're a hip-hop fan or not with like Lana Del Rey. I feel like when she drops, you can't escape that shit. Everyone at the gas station knows that shit. If it's a single, sure. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:41 Yeah, I don't think it's crazy that that album is less than a year on the charts. I was surprised they see that. I'm not going to lie. No, I don't think it's crazy at all. How? That's the only album that's ever done that. And this is probably one of his most anticipated albums. But in the course of the past couple years, hip hop has been falling off of Billboard.
Starting point is 01:02:01 So I'm not surprised that the fall off, which did not have a single, has fallen off of the charts. No, I'm not surprised at that. fall off the title album to the falling off the chart. No, I'm just saying. You didn't know. I'm just saying that. This is part of the rollout. He wanted it to follow.
Starting point is 01:02:15 It didn't have a single. He stopped pushing it early. And hip hop has been falling off the charts and just falling lower on the charts. Period. No, it doesn't surprise me that it's off the charts. And I don't think the double album or shit ton of music works for every artist. I think if Cole had one concise 12 to 14 track album, it's still beyond. It's easier to listen to.
Starting point is 01:02:39 When it's like that. More replay value. I don't think for certain artists. Chris Brown it works for. Drake it works for. I don't think Cole's fan base it works the best for. That's all. But is Chris Brown charting right now on Billboard?
Starting point is 01:02:56 I'm sure there's a record. But I don't know. The long album shit, that was the cheat code for streaming. I just think it's switching now with people's attention spans where that it makes people over-stimulated when they see that much fucking music. for certain artists. For some, it works. I just don't think everyone can get that all.
Starting point is 01:03:16 That's a very, very tough thing to get off. So, I mean, back to my question, you don't think it's crazy? I guess, yeah. Cole has always done a lot of numbers. Not that he's ever tried to be the number guy, but he's definitely, he's been right up there with everyone that puts numbers on the board and consistently stays there because he is a huge core fan base. that listens to his music every day.
Starting point is 01:03:46 So yeah, I think that that's surprising to me that that would be his first project. It's surprising to me. I'm not going to lot. That's surprising to me. You've been saying the album was asked since it came out, but now that's surprising to you. I mean, he still has a huge fan base.
Starting point is 01:04:02 Yeah, I don't think Maul thinks that his taste level defines what... Yeah, like my taste... What a rapper does. I thought the album was okay. There was a couple songs in there. I didn't think it was much to go back and listen to, but his fan base is fucking huge. So for his album, for this to be his first album
Starting point is 01:04:19 to spend less than a year on the charts, which was one of probably his most anticipated album, yes, that's very surprising to me with his fan base, very surprising. Again, I think if it wasn't a double disc, we'd be having a different conversation. But that's all a what if, so. If the Bulls drafted, Sam Bowie,
Starting point is 01:04:36 it'd be a different conversation as well. I mean, not one of... If the Hornets didn't trade Kobe. I don't know. I just think that. music is in a different music is in a different place because Chris Brown released an album like the other day and not one of the
Starting point is 01:04:49 songs is on the top 100 that is more surprising to me not one of the songs is in the top 100 music is weird right now I would expect for more of Drake's songs to be close usually when Drake drops the album his whole damn album takes up the top 30
Starting point is 01:05:12 like I did that already Sure, of course he did it already. But with this album, like, it's not staying the way it used to. Music is, yeah, like, it's changing. Like, music is just changing. Like, music has a number two album right now. Okay, that's the number.
Starting point is 01:05:25 I'm talking about in the top 100 with the songs, the songs that black music is not staying anymore, the way that it used to. It's just not. It'll hit there. It'll hit number one, number two, number three, number four. But it's not staying the way that it used to. I think that that's an overall conversation. That's not me caping for coal, moving away from that.
Starting point is 01:05:44 conversation. Like it's not, I mean, that is just a fact. Yeah. Yeah, like it's not staying the way used to. Why is Cinderella charting again? I mean, I love that. I saw that headline on Monday that it was back in Billboard. I don't know if it was a TikTok thing or whatever, but I mean, it's a great song. It is a TikTok thing. Okay. I love that song. Yeah, songs. Oh, we're referring to Cinderella by Mac Miller and Todd Dollar. How do we, well, all right, I'll start by saying I know Leresey's one of my favorite
Starting point is 01:12:10 young rappers. He could rap really well. Belly gang is great, but we can go through this list and everyone can speak to how many names they recognize. I'm not here to celebrate our ignorance. we also have a hip-hop platform, so I'm not bragging about not knowing these names. I'm just trying to be real with the audience. But that's why this is important, though.
Starting point is 01:12:31 I'm going to check these guys out. Then you see the freshman class. You don't recognize some of the names. This gives you the opportunity to go checking my listening to some of their music. Yeah. I know I do that a lot. When I see the freshman list, I always go to see, like, you know, who these, the artists that I don't know. But I do obviously, Beligand, Cushington, Scrilla, Y.K. Neese.
Starting point is 01:12:50 Yeah, I know those guys. That's where it stopped after. So go through all of them so we can give everybody their props and we can speak for who we can. Slera, I've seen before and I'm not saying the metal band. I've seen that name before. Trim, Babyface E, Hurricane Wisdom, So-So Camillo. I love Trim. Camo, So-So-Camo.
Starting point is 01:13:11 Do you know who Trim is? I think so. Trim is the one that they say is the Nikki copy. She has the coconut water. song. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. We talked about her performance and we said you got to learn breath control, but she wants it. She's hungry.
Starting point is 01:13:28 I like Trim. Okay. Chris Patrick, I feel like I've seen that too. I feel like I was in homeroom. I was about to say, not in like my family tree, but I feel like I've seen Chris Patrick before. I've definitely sat behind him. Belly gang was a friend of show.
Starting point is 01:13:40 Laresee is incredible again. Trap Dickie. YK. Nisa, I know. Scrilla, I know. Wackenis still might have one of the best verses of the year. Is Waukeenisa, freshman? Yes. All again, Cushington is a freshman. Y. K. Yes, Y. K. East is a freshman.
Starting point is 01:13:54 Okay. And Miles Minick. And then DJ Drama. Who was not a freshman? It beats by... You can be the Dean. The Dean. Dean drama.
Starting point is 01:14:08 Dean drama. Dean drama. DJ Dean. DJ Dean drama. But I feel like we're not doing bad. We know what one... We're not doing bad. Hip hop is doing better.
Starting point is 01:14:17 Three, four. I'm doing great. If we know. six out of like the fucking 12 or whatever. I don't think that that's bad. That's more than I've known in certain past. That's all I'm from, honestly. Yeah, knowing half of the class is not bad.
Starting point is 01:14:32 This new music, I can't really get into a lot of this new shit. But shout out to everybody that made the freshman cover. That is a big deal. Yeah. Again, I do like that they're still doing it. No, they need it. This is something that I think is definitely needed. So it's always, you know, and it's something that a lot of these artists aspire to.
Starting point is 01:14:50 they've seen all of the freshman list, freshman classes. So to make that cover is, it is a stat. Yeah. Because last year I knew one person. Oh, no. No, that's not true. We need two. No, you knew a couple.
Starting point is 01:15:04 I knew two last year. You know Jello, obviously. Jello and. Who was leading the class? Jellow and Rayvon. I don't know what, Samarsen? No. You knew Ian just from him going viral for just being that white kid that sounds like
Starting point is 01:15:20 future. Oh, okay. Yes, Ian. And that's, yeah. Couldn't pick up, put them out of a lineup, but I know the name. Well, out of this lineup, do you think you could find the white kid? Yeah, sure, for sure. But yeah, congrats to everybody who made the double XL freshman list.
Starting point is 01:15:35 I'm proud of y'all. Yeah. You see that the Grammys is added new categories? I did not see that. What are the new ones? Pull them up, Brian. People are complaining as usual. But I like new categories in the Grammys.
Starting point is 01:15:47 I wish they would air them. Best traditional pop vocal performance. Best Latin song, best Asian pop music performance, best traditional folk album and best R&B collaboration or duo group performance. Oh, yes. I'll finally get one. Hey, go Rory. Best R&B collaboration. That's yours.
Starting point is 01:16:08 They added in the other category last year as far as... Best New Country or something. Like, no, non-traditional R&B, which was like focused on pushing the genre and blending it with hip-hop. So I'm going to push for that one. But I just have to spend six figures to get a Grammy consultant. Yeah. Best Asian pop music performance. I feel bad for all Asians that aren't K-pop.
Starting point is 01:16:35 Yeah. And try to get into that that category. Oh, they're Asian artists that aren't K-pop? Yes. They have Asian R&B. Who's like the Asian R&B? I believe they call it. They call it R&B.
Starting point is 01:16:49 See. Just cut it or just believe it. believe it. Molly Santana's Asian R&B? No, Asian artists. What about Sailor Moon? Love Sailor Moon. Oh, yeah. But I don't think she would be
Starting point is 01:17:01 Asian pop music. Isn't she American? Yeah, like, she wouldn't be, it would just be, so Asian pop is referring to like a specific type of music. Anything else would just be R&B. It wouldn't be Asian R&B. No, but I mean like, are there R&B artists that are in Asia, like, don't speak English. I think, but they get Nealuthor on.
Starting point is 01:17:21 I think they're calling... I'm sure it'll hit a K-pop trend eventually. I want to know. Like, put me on. Like, let's not. To me, they had to call it best Asian pop music performance because what other category is specific to one country? Best K-pop performance would be like...
Starting point is 01:17:40 Yeah. That's really specific. Yeah. Because they also have... Because they'll do like Latin music, which doesn't put you to one specific country. It's not best Puerto Rico's on. Yeah. They have J-Pocon.
Starting point is 01:17:51 Bad Bunny would smoke that category. They have J-pop and C-pop, though. Who is the Asian Luther Vandros? Oh, for sure. Mani Pachio. Somebody Filipino. Yeah. We got to find.
Starting point is 01:18:03 We need to find the Asian Luther Vandros. Bruno. Bruno is from Brooklyn. Yeah, but he's from Brooklyn by way of Hawaii. By way is funny. I don't know how that works. That's a long-ass way to be my way. By way of Hawaii, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:18:22 The 14 out of flight. I don't know how it works, but it works. Yeah, we need to find the Asian, the Asian guy that's over there singing the fucking house down. That's what we need to find. Why do we need to find him? Because I just want to see what it looked like. I want to see what it sound like.
Starting point is 01:18:39 Okay. Because K-pop test, you know, that just feels like people that just grew up watching NSYNC and 98 degrees and they're just doing their reddish. Well, I mean, you can't steal from urban more now. Yeah, you can't fake an amazing vocal performance. You want to see the linsanity of R&B. Yeah, I want to know who's over there where it's like, yo, you don't know about the, yo, he's singing his ass.
Starting point is 01:19:03 Like who they over there, Asia, like, yo, he's singing his ass off. That's what I want to know. See, he looked like he over there with Josh Titofi. The Polynesian Luther Vandros? See, now. He looked like the guy used to protect easy. I'm singing. Pull them up singing on YouTube. Let's see what Josh. Let's see what Josh. He's in New York win? Because I'll pull up. A lot of verb on that mic ball. Yeah, but y'all miss him what I'm saying. And I'm trying to shit on Josh.
Starting point is 01:19:31 Josh with the USC, man. He played offensive line. I'm talking about, I'm talking about somebody that's over in Asia. Ain't never been to America. Didn't play right tackle for Oregon. Yeah, I'm not too much. He was on ESPN playing left tackle left. I'm talking about somebody in Asia. don't speak no English, but it's singing the fucking house down. Who is it? Who is that person? Ryan, if you want to pull up some Manny Pacchio in the booth, fire in the booth. It got to be one.
Starting point is 01:20:03 It got to be somebody. I'm sure there is. It got to be somebody. I mean, it is kind of crazy that it took this long for Best Latin Song to be a category. Yeah, that shit. 2027. Wait, what? Best Latin song is a new category.
Starting point is 01:20:15 They've never had a Best Latin song category? No. No. What the fuck is Bad Bunny been winning all this? He's been winning the best period. He wins like best rock song. But see, this is, no, he just wins best song. But this is also the same thing that they did with Beyonce.
Starting point is 01:20:31 Do we need a best Latin song? Yes. But now what I don't want to happen is for Bad Bunny to be categorized just as the best Latin song when he should be winning best song. Like if you should be winning song of the year, don't just go and throw me into best Latin song. Just to get me out of the way. If you speak in Latin. Yeah, but you can.
Starting point is 01:20:50 speak Latin and still have the best song. It can still be better than a song where you're speaking English. But it's probably not fair to an American artist. How is it not fair if it's a better song? What do you mean? How is it not fair? If I have, if you're speaking Latin and then now this is the Grammy, it's like, Spanish.
Starting point is 01:21:04 Well, you speak to Spanish and the whole record, right? It's kind of unfair to an American artist that speak in English to have a great record. And it's like, yeah, but Americans, we can't even, we don't even understand what the song is. But that doesn't. It's a great record. No, you can't say Americans don't understand what the song is because. America is a melting pot, Spanish is our second language. So you might not understand, but a huge part of America does understand.
Starting point is 01:21:26 True, but then it's a huge part that don't understand. Which is fine, but even though you don't. We just saw the Super Bowl. People were upset, but it was also one of the most watched Super Bowls. Because of the Latin countries that tuned in, not America that tuned in. America's still tuned in. Of course Americans still tuned in. I'm talking about it was one of the most watched because Latin countries tuned in to see a Latin
Starting point is 01:21:46 artist. But you, when you hear Titi me, Puerto Rico, thought you even if you don't understand what the fuck he talking about you're gonna bop to that shit right because it's a good song regardless of what language is speaking. Can you see how it could be unfair to an American artist who has let's say
Starting point is 01:22:02 Taylor Swift or Beyonce has a huge record. Bad Bunny Latin Latin speaking artist right huge record I can see why the Grammys would be like we probably should make two separate categories. Well all right I see
Starting point is 01:22:18 the other side I see is that look what it takes for a Latin artist to be nominated for a Grammy. You have to be Bad Bunny. You have to be one of the biggest artists, period. At least now, other Latin artists can be at least nominated and recognized with a category specifically for that. Even if you don't win. And on top of that, I can even see a Latin artist that has a song that, okay, we're giving Bad Bunny an award in a regular category. Let's give this Latin artist, even though Bad Bunny has the bigger record, they could even get a Grammy now.
Starting point is 01:22:49 because Bad Bunny can win in other categories. You know that that's not the way that that's going to happen. It does sometimes. It happens sometimes with the rap category when you'll have someone like clips it has for album of the year and rap album in the year. Like when Royce won a Grammy, I forgot the other big rap album that ended up winning and Royce ended up getting that rap category,
Starting point is 01:23:08 which I thought was great. Whereas the bigger artist typically gets the Grammy. But when they're also in other categories, sometimes it allows someone like Royce who's so talented that typically would be overlooked could get his Grammy. Right. I think that's a cool thing
Starting point is 01:23:22 when you add this part in. He can go to win it. He could go compete with fucking Lady Gaga. Right. Now we have this category where I can maybe get some shine of record and the audience
Starting point is 01:23:34 can see songs they've never heard of because I look through all the Grammy shit and those stuff, I don't recognize it. I go listen to it. Now you'll be nominated. So I hope that it does work out that way because that would be a best case scenario where it works out that way.
Starting point is 01:23:47 I think it's going to be we got tired of bad bunny swashing niggas so now we're gonna put him over and best latin so there's exceptions to the rule i just feel like bad bunny is is so undeniable that like it's he's past the time of being like slighted yeah like you think there is no slighting bad bunny they'll be like we'll just give the latin awards you you say that but then they've been slighting biontie for years they've slighted they they they these people are known for sliding Me? No, no, no, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, I agree that they slide people. But it's not like Beyonce gets slighted in the R&B category and not slighted in the overall. They slide her everywhere.
Starting point is 01:24:25 Right. With certain stuff. I'm saying bad bunny doesn't get slited. No. He gets his awards. So I don't know if they're just going to be like, all right, well, now we have Latin. So let's just throw him over here and we can continue to give Lana Del Rey her shit. I still think bad bunny's going to sweep when bad bunny is supposed to sweep. Agreed. So I hope so. Me too, but it's a Grammy. So you never fucking know what's going to happen. You never fucking know. You know, they'll pick and choose when they want something to work. But I like that they're adding new R&B category because there's so much different R&B. I don't think that everybody should be nominated in the same category.
Starting point is 01:24:57 So I am happy that they're adding more and more, it seems, every year. Completely agree. I'm sure you do. Well, no, I just think the Grammy should match the Times. And the Times was streaming like we were just talking about. There's so many different subcategories that have such big fan bases, even if they're not the most popular. It is a very significant thing. It's not just traditional radio, one category, one artist.
Starting point is 01:25:16 It should reflect the times. Yeah. There's a thousand different subcategories on your playlist. Awards should match the same thing. Okay. Do we have voicemails? You've got mail. Hey, y'all.
Starting point is 01:25:27 Love the pod. Happy Pride Moth from your favorite zesty nigger fan. Oh. And shout out to DeMaris. Who said you were my favorite? My bisexual queen. This question is very zesty, but I'm curious to know. Ma'am, I don't think we'll be able to answer this objectively because we all know he is not the least homophobic on the pod.
Starting point is 01:25:52 So I'm curious to know, as a man, do y'all think it's gay if you beat off to yourself and get turned on to yourself without porn or a visual or anything? I feel like with the ladies is fine. like if the ladies wanted to just like flick the bean i have no visual or maybe just on thoughts like prison shit but like as a man if there's no visual around and you get horny is it gay if you beat off and you get attracted looking at your own meat let me know everybody said i don't have to answer that so he was a little all over the place with that question at first I thought he was saying to yourself like looking
Starting point is 01:26:40 at yourself you just beat off in the mirror it is looking at yourself looking at your own thing then I thought maybe he was talking about like a video of yourself in the act with another person but no he landed that and said not just looking at your dick you just like damn this shit big like
Starting point is 01:26:54 what um all right I'm going to start by saying it's probably more narcissistic than it is gay but yes if narcissistic is gay. Being a narcissist is gay.
Starting point is 01:27:10 Let's unpack it. Let's not. Let's unpack it. We don't have to. We can leave it back. There's plenty of straight women that are narcissistic. Okay.
Starting point is 01:27:21 Fair. But I will say, yes, I would think by definition, well, maybe not by definition. My own thought, yes, looking at your dick and that making you sexually aroused of just the thought of your dick would mean that a dick, yeah, you're gay.
Starting point is 01:27:40 masturbate in a free world with no visual is crazy I mean I grew up that way I wasn't looking at my dick but you visualized when you were a kid when you were beating off for the mona I had porn there was a magazine something yeah but sometimes the spice channel there was people in the living room sometimes you didn't have met like yes when I was younger masturbating in the living room with other people
Starting point is 01:28:01 well that's what I'm saying that's why it wasn't available most of masturbation should happen alone no but that's what he was saying they're in I can't go quietly turn the spice channel on on immediately magazine. Yeah, but I, sometimes it doesn't.
Starting point is 01:28:12 And I never understood that being off to a magazine. Like, because I, I was talking to somebody. But you understand being off to nothing?
Starting point is 01:28:18 No, but what I'm saying is I was talking to somebody and he was like, yeah, like, you know, like I beat off
Starting point is 01:28:23 to my girlfriend's pictures and I was like, like pictures, like you have videos of her. Like you decide to use the pictures and he was like,
Starting point is 01:28:29 yeah, I don't know, the pictures just have like a different like, I have to use my imagination. The magazine, you got a,
Starting point is 01:28:34 you got to, you got to go through quick like a cartoon. See, you don't just be one page, you got to so look like they're moving. See, if you just, if you just beating off to just a picture, you're wilding. You got to go to the-
Starting point is 01:28:47 But you use your imagination with the picture. Yeah, but you got to f- So it looks like it's- Yeah, like, you know, it's a different girl, but it's different poses, so it looks like the girls is moving. Yeah. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:28:57 So how do you do that while beating off? Like. You gotta go, she's got to drop it like a calendar. Like a fan, you know, the church fan. Leave me alone, bro. Yeah, you got to do it like the church fan, baby. Yeah, that's wild gay beating off to you. Let's just put that out there.
Starting point is 01:29:17 That's wild gay. But again, it's definitely on the spectrum of gay. What I definitely think is 90% narcissistic shit. Like, your own meat is crazy that that's what's getting you off. I think that if anybody should turn you on, it should be you. I don't think that's narcissistic. No, no, I don't. I ain't never turn myself on. But he's not saying he's looking at his meat picture.
Starting point is 01:29:36 I'm gonna turn on a boy ass nigga. I didn't turn a lot of people. He's just saying his meat. He just like his meat. Yeah, like, maybe he got some fire. Maybe he's gay. Well, no, he's gay.
Starting point is 01:29:47 I'm away from this gentleman. He already put that out there. I'm just like anybody, any man that's just turned on to themselves. Yeah, maybe he might. I would have to ask some of our gay friends and associates, male ones that. I don't like Dick.
Starting point is 01:30:04 So I don't know. I would. if I like Dick, would that turn me on to see a dick? It just so happens to be mine. If you like Dick, would that turn you on to see Dick? I think that's the epitome of liking Dick. Yeah, but I just like your own. I would have to ask other gay people if that's a thing.
Starting point is 01:30:19 Yeah, I think that's gay. Yeah, I never thought about that if I get turned on looking at myself because I'm gay or if like, it's me. Like, I don't know. I know I'm gay, but I don't know if I get turned on looking at myself because I'm gay or because like I'm kind of fire. I don't know which one of it is. Oh, okay. All right. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:35 Well, thank you to our number one zest email fan for calling and leaving out. Call with a follow-up. Yeah. You should be a regular voicemail just to make them all uncomfortable. That'd be my favorite segment. I'm uncomfortable. He'd say that I shouldn't answer it because he thinks I'm the least objective. All right, cool.
Starting point is 01:30:51 I'm just going to say that that is gay. I think it's funny, a gay guy asking, an openly gay guy asking us if something he's doing sexually is gay. Yes. Yes. You're gay. anything you would do in that regard would land on that. Thank you for the voice model.
Starting point is 01:31:11 We appreciate that. And yes, respect to our number one Zesty male fan. He said it, not us. Yes. All right,
Starting point is 01:31:16 well, please don't forget to watch. I will find you this weekend if y'all have time. I definitely. I think y'all will enjoy it. We can come in and talk about it next week as a family.

From Futuro Studios, I'm Fernanda Chavari, and this is American Football, a show about soccer culture in the U.S. and its underdog roots. We go beyond the game to the people and the stories that make it great. A soccer game is a festival. It's not just a game.
Starting point is 01:34:22 It's your culture. I took an elbow to my head which cracked my skull. It is an American game. The Brazilians don't like hearing that, though. Are they the only ones that don't like that? Nobody likes that. As we get ready for the Men's World Cup this summer, listen to American Football as part of the MyCultura podcast network,

You put me on to some dope shit. These are the days I, like, really enjoy podcasting when we can highlight new talent. Yeah. Because, you know, I feel like a lot of the pod shit is getting.
Starting point is 01:37:17 based with big artists and no one ever highlights new talent so when we get the opportunity to do that I'm very excited about those things my man Sean Barron sent me this gentleman's project at least she's beautiful we are here with our guy RJ the weirdo hey y'allis Texas representing yes yes Dallas Texas man um the first record out the gate that I love was tricks are for kids. What's the back story there? Because I have questions.
Starting point is 01:37:52 Roi pays attention to lyrics. I'm more of just the music. I'll get it to the lyrics later. But Rory goes right into what is this artist saying? Man, that's really not much to it. When it came to tricks, that was like the last song. We had just got through knocking out like four songs. Me and my guy, Sonic Major.
Starting point is 01:38:09 Shout out to him. We just got through knocking out a lot of songs. And I said, bro, let's do one more. right and um uh we got on this this we just went on like a sample dive okay first couple seconds of this uh this one sample i was like oh yeah bro we got to loop this around and do something to and so as i was doing it um as i as we looped it that melody popped that then ta da da da and um yeah from there from there he gave me the first lyric uh sonic major gave me that he said um I can fool anyone else with you.
Starting point is 01:38:48 I tell on myself. And at that point, I was like, oh, yeah, yeah. I know exactly what I want to say. So basically the whole thing is just, my shit don't work on you no more. You know, it used to. You know, I used to get away with all kind of shit, but I can't get away with that shit no more?
Starting point is 01:39:05 And it fucks with me. Can I cut some? Yeah, absolutely. So she figured out your gas lighting is what you're saying. Yeah, I'm great at me. Like you're saying a great R&B way, but no, let's listen. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's your easiest gaslight toe?
Starting point is 01:39:20 What's my easiest gaslight? Yeah, like, how did you figure out your bullshit? Um, I think, you know, it's just, you know, after doing something so long, they just start to pick it up, you just start to pick it up. Okay, I see what you're doing. Yeah. So you're going to get it, it ain't going to work this time. Right.
Starting point is 01:39:36 You know what I mean? It's a routine. So, you know, like, after a while, that shit just don't work no more. It's not really much to it. It's just, they just pick it up. Yeah. As a single songwriter and producer, when you're creating music, like, what is the, do you write first? Or you just like you create the music first and then let the lyrics find you?
Starting point is 01:39:57 Because everybody's approach to songwriting is different. What's your approach to the music that you write? Man, that, it's always the feeling, man. It's always the vibe. When I go into a, when I go into the studio, my guy, like I say, either Sonic come up with some chords. I come up with some chords. My partner Arniticus come up with some chords. And at that point, I'm real big on, like, topic.
Starting point is 01:40:21 Okay. Like, I love relatable, relatable shit. You know, it has to make sense for me in order for me to like the song after we've done. Okay. So, yeah, like, I like to really, really get on a good topic. Good topic, feel that. If I went through it, it's spill.
Starting point is 01:40:40 Okay. If I don't been through it, it spill out. You got to fly it off sometimes. I don't know what just stop. I have to like, ugh. Turn a faucet up. Yeah. But when it came, like, like, even if they're going through something,
Starting point is 01:40:50 like, if my partner's going through something, like, in their relationship, yeah. Yeah, I'm just real good at, uh, I'm an impad, man. And even, and I have ADHD. So a lot of times, even me expressing my own emotions. Yeah. It don't come out as well unless I write it down. Okay.
Starting point is 01:41:09 You know what I'm saying? So, yeah, just writing has become like my, my, my, my, my, my, my. therapy. It's your release. Yeah, it's my release. Do you have the same, like, is it just a small circle of guys that you always create with your day ones or is it just like you open to working with other guys that you like, other
Starting point is 01:41:25 producers or it's just like, no, we're going to keep this thing in-house? Yeah, yeah. For the most part, I like to keep it in house. I mean, I'm open. Don't get me wrong, I'm open. I love working with everybody, you know what I mean? Because you never know who you can run into this. Right.
Starting point is 01:41:38 You know, just I love learning. I love being a student. So yeah, I don't mind working with everybody. working with everybody but for the most part i'm gonna go where i'm gonna go where my where my vibe at just because like even them even the people i work with they're open okay you know i mean like like they should i might go to this dude and bro be like hey i've been listening to so-and-so i've been listening to stevie wonder yeah let's get in that bag yeah you know what i mean why not why not we like trying different shit yeah so yeah um how did you end up connecting with with
Starting point is 01:42:12 and Sean in that whole crew, tied out of something that is. It was this guy named Ant Buchanan. It's my guy. He's seen Sean at, where was it, South by Southwest? And I guess they had kind of talked. I think they was in talks about a couple of artists. And how, Sean, well, how Amp put it, he said, yeah, man, I just need something special.
Starting point is 01:42:40 I need something special. And I haven't been knowing me for like four years. Okay. Prior. He was like, hey, I got somebody. And he sent him, he sent Sean my music. And at the time, I'm kind of a recluse. I'm kind of to myself.
Starting point is 01:42:54 I don't really go outside like that. So they had the hardest time hitting me up, gang. Like, can nobody get a hold of me. And my ex-girlfriend hit me up. I knew it was something. I was like, oh, shit. At least she's beautiful. At least she's beautiful.
Starting point is 01:43:10 Right. You're here. She hit me up. I was like, oh, damn, this is important. Yeah. Because I, you know what I mean? Yeah. But, um, she hit me up. She was like, yo, RJ, this guy named Sean Beren's trying to get a hold of you. You need to go ahead and call AMP. I call it amp. And I was like, yo, Sean's trying to get a hold of you. He sent me his number and boom, I call Sean. Sean was like, yo, you're a movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I just played. Yeah, yeah. And did he hear? what the tape is now or this was stuff after he heard some he heard some songs he heard uh same old
Starting point is 01:43:45 dreams okay studio rat yeah um and a couple other songs but i i think that he kind of knew that wasn't i had sent him a couple of songs he just he said that his main thing is i haven't sent him a bad song yet he's still waiting on a bad song you know that was his main reason of like why he wanted to go ahead and sign me yeah and so he sent uh i mean we play i guess he played my stuff for tie and shit like that. And they face-time me. And it was like, yo, I want to manage you. I want to, and I want to sign you right on the spot.
Starting point is 01:44:18 Wow. Yeah. That was like unheard of for me because I'm thinking like, I got to go viral. Yeah. You know, and I got to do this. A lot of shit. You got to.
Starting point is 01:44:26 Well, you think you got. I think I got to. Yeah. Right, right. But no, that wasn't the case. It's just, you know, and I'm real spiritual. So I'm, you know, I believe, I believe that God is, once God say, you're ready, you're ready, you know.
Starting point is 01:44:37 So I felt like I was prepared enough. I went through what I need to go through. and boom here we are you know did you and tie do the perfect one in person or was that sent back and forth man nah funny story that song was done so i heard it was like no one ain't yeah yeah oh me like i had uh i had a second verse on there that song was pretty much out of here like i don't know i bet and uh sean Sean called me was like yo tie want to get on perfect one he was like uh shit okay what Yeah.
Starting point is 01:45:11 I'm gonna scrap my shit easy. That was easy. Yeah. I scrapped that verse and he set that shit back. I was like, no way. No way. Crazy. You went dumb.
Starting point is 01:45:20 Yeah. You know, Tom was crazy on that. Was Todd one of those artists that before actually, you know, obviously meeting and work one of them was one of the guys that you listened to him was like, yo, he's dope? Yes, easily. Easily. Like, man, what, Beach House one, Beach House two? Classic. What, free T.C.
Starting point is 01:45:36 Yeah. I don't go a lot. I think free T. Free T. I think it's a classic out. What? Man. solid to even the shit with a TC
Starting point is 01:45:42 the miracle joint that was the best song of that year on me. I just, I don't know me personally, I just really like, I like when people are in their vulnerable bags and stuff like that, you know, so when I fell around that album, that was a very personal album, you know, his brother.
Starting point is 01:45:58 Yeah. So I just think that's one of my favorite albums by him. Yeah, easy. What of those combos been like with Ty, you know, now signing with Sean? Ty is... Advice wise of how he's guiding everything. Because Ty, Ty, I've been through multiple deals, different managers. Ty's seen some shit.
Starting point is 01:46:16 Oh, yeah, man. Oh, yeah. You know, it was funny. Like, Ty don't have to do too much talking. I think he let his actions talk to me for the most part. He have a work ethic out of this world. Like, all he do is show me. Like, what was, I think, what I took as advice from, from, Ty was, I remember one time I was, we was in Vegas and he had a show.
Starting point is 01:46:39 I didn't even know he had a show. And I was like, yeah, shit, I ain't going to lie, bro. It's about 2 o'clock. I'm going to go ahead and head back to the hotel. I'm going to, I got a flight in the morning. I'm going to go ahead and slide back. I got to go to sleep. Give you some rest.
Starting point is 01:46:53 He was like, damn, you're going to come to my show? I was like, oh, I didn't even know you had it. He was like, damn, you granddad? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, we rock stars, bro. Right. Like, we don't do that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:47:04 I was like, well. I guess I'm going to the show. I guess I'm going to the show. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm so happy I did because I watched him go from doing a feature to another song to another song to doing that show. And after that show, he went to the studio again. Like, it's just, nigga, never stop.
Starting point is 01:47:28 Yeah. And I'm like, okay, this is where I need to be mentally. This is where I need to be. Yeah, this is a thing where, you know, as an artist sometimes or creative, you think that you work hard until you meet somebody. And you're like, oh, shit. Yeah. Like, okay, like, I got it. I got to go.
Starting point is 01:47:44 If this person that is already at this status and this level is still working. Yeah. At this level, I need to step my shit up. Facts. Yeah. It made me feel like I was lazy as his. He made me feel like, damn, I thought that is good at work. I was going to go to sleep at 2 a.m.
Starting point is 01:48:00 Like, no, I got a show and then back to the studio. Back to the studio. Yeah. Then fly out. Right. Yeah. We'll sleep later. We'll get to that.
Starting point is 01:48:06 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. at school the first time we worked we knocked out one record in like fucking 15 minutes and he's like all right what else you got i'm like i thought he's going to work on one record for the next six
Starting point is 01:48:19 hours yeah yeah i don't have enough i'm like oh hold on give me a second yeah i'm like that too i like to take take a like take a while like we're gonna figure out every word every lyric yeah yeah yeah but nah these niggas go so do you um do you feel any pressure now with Things are at for new artists. Like you obviously don't have the same let me put out my video, go on 106 TRL, radio, and rinse and repeat formula. Like is that in the back of your mind when you're creating of how am I going to market this? What's this going to do for TikTok?
Starting point is 01:48:53 What's this going to do for, is that sit anywhere in the creation process? Hell no, bro. When I'm creating, that's my moment to really, that's a freedom for me. You know, like I said, that's therapy. I'm not thinking about shit. I'm really in there having fun. I think if I was to think about that, I think it would fuck my fun up.
Starting point is 01:49:15 Okay. You know what I'm saying? I'd rather just go in there and put it all on wax, put it all the shit I just went through this week. I'm going to put that right there, leave it here, and yeah. And see what happens?
Starting point is 01:49:30 What? That's it for me. I don't know. I just don't get too caught. I try my best not to get too caught up in, and in virality like just being that that type of artist
Starting point is 01:49:42 you know yeah but you saying before you you got the call from that you felt like I got to do this I got to have this viral song or moment in order to get to this which is which seems like the norm now
Starting point is 01:49:57 like that's how you think it should go but talent is always going to cut through whether it goes viral or not and then the right people find that talent And decide to invest in it. Obviously, tie what he's able to do with Leon and now, you know, with you. There's a nice collective of creatives and music and vibe over there that y'all are building right now. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:50:20 Oh, yeah. Shout out my nigga Sean, man. Sean Barron, man. You got, he always said, I got, you know, my ear is golden, baby. Like, what are you talking about? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:50:29 So, yeah, you know. You got a nice thing over there right now. It's a very... Tire's quietly building like a really cool roster over there right now. That I'm like, when Rory was telling me
Starting point is 01:50:42 about you and I'm listening I'm like, what the fuck, Ty over there doing? Like he putting together a nice little collective of just, you know,
Starting point is 01:50:51 just dope shit. Like the type of music that I like and I like to listen to. What's the scene in Dallas right now as far as like R&B? Like what's the scene in Dallas? Is it more artists kind of like
Starting point is 01:51:03 with your vibe, or was it just like a whole bunch of different energies and vibes? Because Texas has always given us great music and especially R&B. But what's the vibe like now in Dallas? Man, in Dallas, man, it's just, to me, it's like a really big melting pot. You really don't know what you get. I know what's pushed, you know? Like, what's pushed in front of you is like more of like being. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:51:29 like and you know dance type vibes and uh dope boy type shit like like like zyner dough and big extra plug but you also have like gems there it's a lot of gems as far as like r and b um go like digotty cash page um even even my sister her name is cayentai if you don't look out for her she's okay but um there's just a lot of it's a lot there that a lot of underground talent That's not really getting their shine or they just do, I would say, in Dallas. Now, the aesthetic is, the aesthetic is 90s. I'm looking at you. It's very 90s.
Starting point is 01:52:09 I'm from that. I'm from that. I'm from the Jodicey. Yeah. I'm from that vibe. Is that intentional? Is that like what you grew up on? Since I was a kid.
Starting point is 01:52:17 Yeah. I was a kid. I love Juice, the movie. Okay. And I was like, yeah, I'm just like this. The rest of my life is a lot. Oh, God. Like, bro.
Starting point is 01:52:26 This is it. But you know, it's crazy. I'm not leaving this error right here. But, you know, it's crazy. Like, like, even with, I'm more expressive, though, because I'm also grunge. Like, I like, I like how rock stars is, too. So it's just kind of me musing, musing those worlds, kind of like how I do with my music. I take a little bit of alternative rock, little 90s, R&B, and music together, you know.
Starting point is 01:52:48 Yeah, it's all black music. It's all genre. It's all black music. Yeah, facts, facts. How did you land on the name then? How did I land on the name? It was in the dream. Like random as dream
Starting point is 01:53:00 It was this lady saying Yeah well I'm looking for RJ the weirdo Where is RJ the weirdo? That's really how I landed on it Because at first I know that's the craziest shit to say right But my baby moms used to call me a weirdo All the time
Starting point is 01:53:11 My baby mother does the same thing to me Right But it's not in a creative way But I used to But how I would cut it I'd be like you like that shit though Yeah Like you like that weird shit
Starting point is 01:53:22 So yeah I kind of like Okay Let's see if we can make everybody like Right. Yeah. Okay. I guess that makes sense.
Starting point is 01:53:31 Right. Like, I'm a weirder. Let's see if everybody like this weird shit though. At first, my name was funshue. Okay. I'm like,
Starting point is 01:53:38 bro, that shit was ass. What dream was that? Yeah, I don't know what dream. I'm like, man, I gotta hurry up, do some. I gotta go back to sleep. That shit was like, hey, bro, watch that.
Starting point is 01:53:50 Fung sway would be hilarious. Fung sway? Yeah, when Roy was like, yeah, now you got to listen to this RJ the weirdo. I'm like, Who? Yeah. He's like, no,
Starting point is 01:53:59 I'm telling you, you're gonna fuck with this. And I'm like, RJ, the weirdo. Yeah. I'm like, what's up with the name though? Right. And he was like,
Starting point is 01:54:07 don't worry about the name. He was like, listen to this shit. And then I saw, I listened to it. I was like, okay, no, I get it. He's like, oh, and by the way,
Starting point is 01:54:12 that's Ty, that's Leon's. I said, oh, this makes sense. Yeah. This makes all the sense in the world. Now, now I get it. Yeah. Does Ericabad do have, like, a super presence in Dallas
Starting point is 01:54:25 as far as the R&B scene? Oh, hell, yeah. Like, the way, you know, we even have Nause of the chokehold of New York City is, is Badoo like that with Fort Worth in Dallas? Yeah, easy. Like, she, um, most of them, like, if you go, like, to, like, deep element shit like that, like, most of the, most of the people that get on stage, it's all jazz. It's all her type of jazz, though. Like, Neo-Sole vibes. They all kind of wear crystals and head raps and that, you know, that type of vibe.
Starting point is 01:54:55 Yeah. Yeah. She really, like, made a culture out there in Dallas for the most part when it came to R&B. You know what I mean? So most of the, I would say the people that do the open mics and stuff like that, all of them sound like Eric about to. Yeah. Is there any artists in particular that you like, I just need to meet this artist and we got to get, I got to get some work done with this artist. I have somebody in mind, but I just want to hear who you.
Starting point is 01:55:26 Who you have like on your vision board. Man, I ain't gonna lie, man. I'm kind of open. I'm kind of open. All the people I wanna work with is dead. You know, like Donnie Hathaway, Mike, Michael Jackson. Okay. You know.
Starting point is 01:55:40 I wasn't expecting you to say, Donnie, that's like. That's where I get my emotion from. That's the first time ever cried. Like to some music, hearing songs like giving up or love you more than you love or know a song for you. like that would like made me tear up and I'm like eight years old yeah I mean if you don't cry for a song for you
Starting point is 01:56:01 then the deal path you have to cry to that song The crazy part is when you realize how young Donnie was singing like that Man bro what? Like when I found that out That fucked me up How old was he when he made that?
Starting point is 01:56:14 I don't even know Maybe 20 something 29 It's crazy Because he was 30 something when he passed Right he was 30 Yeah he was definitely He was young with that he was that young With that soul and that voice
Starting point is 01:56:25 in that texture was, it was 33 when he passed. So, you know what I mean? It's just like to know that you had somebody with that type of soul at a young age, just like that was a special gift for sure. So, I mean, naturally it would hit somebody as musically inclined as you are in tune with the music and emotions that it would affect you that way. Yeah, yeah. Like I say, that taught me.
Starting point is 01:56:46 That taught me how to use emotion for the most part. Even Stevie Wonder, you know, Steve Wonder, for like. I think everybody has Steve. Yeah, yeah. If you make music, you want to work with Steve Wanda. That's just like the greatest ever. Yeah. Did you get a chance to see the Michael movie?
Starting point is 01:57:01 I did. What did you think about it? It was good. I said a lot of people what didn't really like it though. Like, Rory didn't like it. I thought it was great. I thought it was great. It was cool.
Starting point is 01:57:11 I liked it. I thought it was great. Like Rory, they wanted to get. And I'm like, bro, it stops in, what, 88? That's what? I think that's why people was like, bro, what? You know. But obviously it's going to, it's a part two coming.
Starting point is 01:57:22 But I don't know. Maybe I'm a little biased. I'm a Michael fucking head. I think everybody. Well, that's why I hate the movie. I think, but I'm gonna say this. I'm gonna say this. I'm gonna give, I'm gonna give, uh, Jafar his flowers.
Starting point is 01:57:34 He did, no, he did, he did, he did great. It was scary how well, like, performance. To me it was a script. Like, they focused, he smoked all the performances. Yeah. And they put all the money into that. Yeah. And there was really no script or dialogue throughout the entire.
Starting point is 01:57:48 That's like, that's what bothered me. I could see that. I could watch these performances on YouTube. Mm-hmm. I don't really need to see. the remake of this and that's the focus of the movie. That's what I. Give me the story. Yeah. There was really no dialogue.
Starting point is 01:58:00 Like at all. I thought it was great. But he, I mean, he did great. I definitely want to give him a flowers in that regard. I don't know. The script itself was just not. Jafar voice. When they first started, I was like, damn, I got chills. Like when he first. The first word he said when he turned around I was talking to Quince, I was like, what the fuck is happening? It was so crazy to me. Like I told everybody, I was like, yo, if I find out
Starting point is 01:58:21 that they CGI had a lot of that shit. Doug. Like, I would not be surprised, like, because that's how, like, much he nailed. Even the, um, just the energy and expressions, the mannerisms. Man, the beat boxing. Yeah, the way he would move and walk. And it was just incredible to watch that. I thought it was a great job.
Starting point is 01:58:38 But I do get how some people feel like the script and the storyline didn't really, like, you know, I mean, I understand that too. But I think for what it was and what we got, I thought it was incredible. Whoever played young Michael did a really good job, too. Yeah. He did. He did a good job. I forgot the young man.
Starting point is 01:58:53 I just think that Michael's such a powerhouse. It's kind of hard. I knew it's going to be hard. Who's going to get that story right? Yeah. Like, and you can't get that story right in two and a half hours. No. It's too much there.
Starting point is 01:59:03 It's like we can't, this would have to be a series. Like, we would have to do an hour a week for like 10 weeks to probably get this. To really, like, dive in. Yeah, but I thought that, you know, what they did and obviously, again, Jafar's performance. Man. That, to me, is the best Michael performance we've seen. Facts. All they long.
Starting point is 01:59:22 I love with we were fans of the Jackson American Dream on VH1 that's probably everybody's favorite Yeah, yeah of course But even that Michael
Starting point is 01:59:31 didn't do what Jafar did Like there's I don't think nobody Came close to that dude He killed that shit too He did And I just found out Recently he passed away
Starting point is 01:59:39 A few years ago I think he died Right after the movie Yeah Like that was I didn't know I had no idea And when we went
Starting point is 01:59:45 When Michael came out And I went to go Look back at that I found out that I made my kids watch that one first. I say, you can't go. You have to. So you're not, you're not allowed to go watch the Michael movie until we watch the first one. Yeah. Yeah. I'm making sense. You have to watch that series. It's
Starting point is 01:59:59 classic. I mean, Lorenz State has a monopoly on any Barry Gordy role for eternity, but. Yeah, he killed that. He played Barry Gordy in every remake. But he killed that, though. Like, I understand it, though. Like, he does a great job with that. Yeah, you killed that job. How, um, you mentioned you had kids. How have you been balancing, you know, everything that's happening with the project and now, being. signed to tie, how has the balance been with having kids and now focusing on your career in this regard? Honestly, it haven't really been a balance.
Starting point is 02:00:34 Like, it's, you know, I don't know, like, I wrote a song about it's called Pooke. It's my last song on my album called Pooke. And that song is basically describing the guilt that I feel at times, providing for my he is the only way I know how. Yet still trying to be a father is hard. Like, don't get me wrong. Like, I can call, but I don't, for me,
Starting point is 02:01:00 the guilt come from, like, not being the father that I know I can be. Because I have to provide, too. You know, so. So much as far as being there in the physical presence. In the physical presence, yeah, for the most part. You know, I'm always at the studio. I'm always working. So yeah, the balance for me sucks. I will say. People don't, people don't understand that
Starting point is 02:01:23 part of it. Like even if you're the most successful artists in the world and you know, you make X amount of dollars and people, you know, look at you like, oh my God, you can do anything. But people don't know that side of being an artist or creative where you're not able to be there physically. And, you know, now you spend a lot of time, FaceTime and things like that. Oh, man. It's not the same though. And people don't, people don't, you know, think about that part of, you know, chasing your dreams and creating of you like, damn, I want to be there, though. Like, I don't want to see my kids through a phone and, you know, this. You miss a lot.
Starting point is 02:01:59 Yeah. You miss a lot. Yeah. Like I say, for me, that definitely, that definitely is a sensitive topic for me. Yeah. Yeah. I love my babies, you know. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:02:10 I, shit. Moll doesn't even even know why I love him. My first year my daughter was born, we were on tour. Yeah. Um, which sucked. Yeah. And we haven't toured since and mall's been cool with it. That's why I love him because I'm not going on the road anymore.
Starting point is 02:02:25 Wow. Like I'm not, I'm not doing that shit because, bro, like I can't be in London for three weeks. Yeah. Like I, yeah,
Starting point is 02:02:31 I'm not raising my daughter on FaceTime. Like I just not doing that shit. So I understand it because that that first year she was born and we were gone every fucking weekend. Like, yeah, shit is not. And then during the week we recording like,
Starting point is 02:02:45 yeah, like I'm not about to miss this entire thing. That's true. Shout out, Ma. That was a real nigga, man. I mean, you know, I love to tour. I love, you know, obviously going out. We have fun when we travel, but I get it, man.
Starting point is 02:02:59 You know what I'm saying? I'm like, bro, listen, you ain't got to, I understand. Like, you ain't got to even have that conversation. You want to be there for your family and your daughter. Yeah, and every fucking agent, managers, like, look how much money y'all can make on the road. I'm like, I'm not doing this show, bro. Yeah, right. Because I even try to bring her on the road for certain shows, and it's like, this is, yeah.
Starting point is 02:03:17 I can see it on you, bro. I can see it on you, bro. I can't see it on you. Yeah. It's like, I feel you. She's running around Howard Theater. She's running around Chicago. Like, I can't do this shit, man.
Starting point is 02:03:25 It was different. It was dope, but it's different. You know, we was making poop, man. Me and my, me and my, my, my, my sonic. Man, I cried that whole, I had to go out and I had to remove myself. Yeah. You know, because like I said, it's such a, it's an interesting topic because it's like you having to like, even some of the lyrics like, like, like, um, um, what I say?
Starting point is 02:03:47 to make my ego justified. Like, is this my ego? Is this me trying to prove something to myself? But, like, is it worth it leaving my, you know what I mean? Like, not being the father that I know I can be. So it's just, it's a big thing for me, but, you know, yeah. Yeah, I've definitely tried to trick myself, especially in her first year of thinking like, oh, I'm the provider.
Starting point is 02:04:14 So, like, yeah. I get the most opportunities for her. I got to get the most money. I got to work, this and that. But then, like, she got to two years old. She started talking like, this girl does not care about money. No, that's the crazy. She just wants me to be around.
Starting point is 02:04:30 Like, she don't give a fuck about that. And granted, no matter what, we're still providers. We still need to do that for our kids regardless. But to sacrifice a hundred, like a hundred grand to be there. Yeah. Cool. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:04:45 Like that, that difference between a specific private school or being there every day with your kid, to me, the difference doesn't matter. Yeah. Like, fuck that 100 grand. Yeah. Writing that song was almost permission. I asked, it's almost me asking them for permission.
Starting point is 02:05:01 Mm-hmm. You know. How old are your kids? I'm 11 and 3. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so the 11-year-old knows, like. Knows what time was for sure.
Starting point is 02:05:14 My 11 year old, she's in her own world. You know what I mean? Like she'd be doing out. That's poop. I name's poo. My daughter's three. What do I have to prepare for for a 11 year old? Because I'm terrified.
Starting point is 02:05:26 You got, she a girl? Yeah. You got the girl? Well, I haven't asked for her gender. She goes. Oh, God. Oh, God. She's going to love on you for a very long time.
Starting point is 02:05:41 She's going to be attached to your hip, right? when they had to brought like 11, 12-ish type type vibe. Yeah, man, it's just... They find their own friends. They kind of go away, yeah. Like, they find their own friends. They do their own thing. They only even like, like, even like, like, even like, like, I remember when this started,
Starting point is 02:05:57 I was holding her hand. We was at, we was at the movies. Yeah. And she's seen, like, little boys and stuff coming around, little kids. Yeah. And she just kind of jack their hand, like, yeah. I'm like, what the hell? Give me your hand back.
Starting point is 02:06:09 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. For me, that's what I noticed, though. When the girls get older, they just kind of get a little bit more, like, in their own world. Yeah. You know, like, until they go phases.
Starting point is 02:06:23 He's going to cry. He's going to cry. Oh, no. What? I don't cry. It's okay. Are you related to Eric Bellinger? Yes.
Starting point is 02:06:31 I actually found that out in, what was it, I think, 2016, 2015. Like 23 and me or some shit? Or family or you? No, I didn't know the Bellinger's. Like, only Bellinger's I knew. was me, my dad, and my grandpa. I didn't know any other Belanger. I only know Eric Bellinger and you.
Starting point is 02:06:48 I've never seen that last name before. So I just assumed you were related to Eric. Yeah, I'm related to him. What happened was my dad was wanted to find my, my papa was actual dad. Like he wanted to find his real dad. Went on ancestry. They found like family members, cousins and stuff like that.
Starting point is 02:07:06 And so we ended up talking to my auntie. And she was like, yeah, we actually have a, a superstar in the family named Eric Beliger that I was like oh okay okay I should check him out at the time he was
Starting point is 02:07:19 I don't even think he was like real hot yet I don't know it might have been I think around 2014 2014 2015 so I don't think he was just like crazy yet but I know he was bubbling
Starting point is 02:07:27 yeah he been doing this thing for a while well yeah he was definitely writing hits of that time but like he was the artist Eric Bellinger yeah yeah because he had written
Starting point is 02:07:35 fine China what 2012 yeah okay well it might have been it might have been earlier than I might be pushing it but like 2015 is when I think as a solo artist he started to like really pop.
Starting point is 02:07:44 Like we all knew who Eric Bellinger was. Like to the masses. Facts. But have you guys connected, though? Man, Sean connected this, man. Oh, yeah? Shout out to Sean again. Shout out to Sean, man.
Starting point is 02:07:55 He all over to just connect us. Sean, I mean, Sean Barron, he was one of the fucking best execs out. Yeah. Yeah, like we was at a, I think it was the dream hotel, hotel party, like, hotel like, the highlight room shit upstairs?
Starting point is 02:08:08 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, Eric's always there. That makes sense to meet Eric. Every time I see Eric. I was a bad ass suit and shit. And I'm like, okay, okay. Sean, like, yo, yo, this your cousin. Like, he didn't, it wasn't like, no backstory.
Starting point is 02:08:22 No, this is your cousin. This is your cousin. I heard this just, and I was like, oh, well, damn, let me try to explain the rest. Yeah, let me, let me explain how we're coming. Yeah, facts. So I explained it to him and whatnot. And, man, he played. He was like, I got, I sent him my number.
Starting point is 02:08:38 And I called him. He was like, I don't know. Is that one L? Because it's two L. I'm like, stop playing. I did 23 and me and you're able to
Starting point is 02:08:49 message people on there. So when they gave me my whole family treat, I did the DM, like a mass DM to everyone. Can I borrow some money? That's how you should. What?
Starting point is 02:09:00 You're cousins. That worked? Did it work? No. Hell no. Well, no. But if Eric Bounder was my cousin and we met at Highlight Room,
Starting point is 02:09:09 the first thing I would be like, Yeah, can I borrow some money? That'd be the first thing I would... When you meet new family, that's how you have to start things out. Yeah, yeah, nah. Eric, man, and he's been showing so much love, like, in my comments and everybody comments. He always, you know, this album, y'all go listen, you know what I mean? So it's like, he immediately was just my cousin right then and there.
Starting point is 02:09:27 Like, you know, it wasn't though like... You know, I don't know you. Yeah, man. He embraced you. You have a real good, you have a real open, welcoming spirit. Yeah. He's a good dude. Y'all haven't worked together yet, though?
Starting point is 02:09:37 Not yet. It's coming. Yeah, I mean, Eric is one of the... of the guys that, you know, I always look at like, anytime you get Eric Balanchet, Joon. Yeah. Extremely talented. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:09:48 That Pee and running a family real deep. No, I see. I'm not. I see. There's a lot of talent, man. What are you looking forward to the most, though, from here, from this point forward? Like, as far as artists, as far as just growing in the industry, like, what are you looking forward to the most?
Starting point is 02:10:03 Man, you know what, bro. I think I kind of got over planning or, like, are overlooking forward. I think I'm just kind of kind of. like I'm allowing God and I'm just trust in the process. Like that. You know what I mean? Like I don't, I don't know. You know, I think that was my biggest thing I told.
Starting point is 02:10:20 I mean, that was my saying of last year. I don't know, but I'm sure. You know what I mean? And I think that's how you describe faith. So I'm just kind of like, I'm just kind of trying to be as grounded and keep my eyes on, you know, whatever my purpose is. I think that's my main thing. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:10:39 I know you mentioned every feature you want, they're all dead. So I guess I'll ask producer-wise. I know you have your core team and everything, but is there producers that you want to work with? Producers. That are alive. Tricky? Tricky.
Starting point is 02:10:57 Tricky crazy. Tricky did one of my favorites, Frank Ocean song. What was it? Novocaine. Tricky did Novakain? Yeah. Did Tricky do Novakain game?
Starting point is 02:11:07 Yeah. I think so. You all know? Did he, I don't want to allow me. I mean, it wouldn't make sense because I know Frank, I know Frank was working. Well, I know Lonnie Bro was working with Tricky at the time. And those were all like reference joints. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:11:19 That wouldn't shock me if Tricky did, did it. Yeah, Tricky Stewart did that. Yeah. That makes sense. I mean, that's a classic. That's a classic, man. You should start off with that and with Novocaine. You know?
Starting point is 02:11:29 Yeah. And I would love to work with Tricky. I really love to work with anybody, man. D. I mean, that's one of the ghosts. Everybody. Josh Major, just. did the black album that is incredible.
Starting point is 02:11:43 I don't know if you heard Black's album yet. Oh, man. Yeah, I haven't listened to all of it, but everybody's been talking about it. I'm going to go check it out. Yeah, that's dope. Yeah, he's the last night. He's fire, but yeah, you and Tricky would be great.
Starting point is 02:11:56 Yeah. Is Dream one of your influences? Because I hear a lot of dream in your writing, in your runs, in your melodies. It's kind of dream, in my opinion. Yeah, no. No, you can say that. You can say that.
Starting point is 02:12:13 Dream is one of the greatest writers of all time to me. Without a doubt. Like, he's definitely top five. Without a day long. To me, Dream have a, like when it came to melodies, I feel like he really, like, mastered that. Like, I think he made everybody else want to,
Starting point is 02:12:32 I know, we need to, like, get that melody right first. You know, um, yeah, I don't know, man. Like, Dream just, dream is just like one of them. I was telling Rory, I saw him at a small venue here in the city, SOBs one night. I couldn't even believe he was playing SOBs, first of all. And I was like, Dream is doing SOB, so I went.
Starting point is 02:12:52 And what he was able to do with that room, just production-wise, like, I was blown away. I was like, oh, this is why he is who he is. He can go in any room and completely turning into the whole experience. And, you know, from that point, I mean, before that, huge fan of dream. But when I got to see him live in a small, venue and what he was able to do with that.
Starting point is 02:13:14 I was like, oh yeah, this dude is just on a different level. Oh, yeah. So he's forever to me, and I'm glad him and Tricky are back working together and, you know, for this next project. Like, that was, that was big. I can't wait. Yeah. I can't.
Starting point is 02:13:26 I think everybody's kind of waiting for that one. Like, you got to hear this. Yeah, like I said, I ended up, I wrote a song for, uh, D. Guy, got he named Cars on the Table. And I, that's where I got the inspiration. But I feel like when I did that, I was still in that bag. Right? Because I think a little bit after that I did, a perfect one.
Starting point is 02:13:46 Mm-hmm. Yeah. Like, you know that, yeah. So that vibe. Yeah. It's just like I say, he melody-coded, you know. 1,000%. 1,000%.
Starting point is 02:13:57 Yeah. How do you feel about the recent Drake drops, specifically the R&B album? I haven't, for me, I haven't. I ain't really listened, like, too much. I've been having so much to do Like From what I've heard though Man, Drake is Drake
Starting point is 02:14:17 Oh she she she trained you very well As far as far as PR answers She gotta hold on I understand why you said I look over like that's my mom Yeah Oh, yeah You guys
Starting point is 02:14:30 I'm great I do it good Thanks mom Yeah It's on his development for real Yeah man We're good Like I say though
Starting point is 02:14:40 like, I'm gonna, Drake, to me, Drake, he, he can't do no, like, no wrong, like, music wise. He gonna always be that, that, that, that, that, that, that nigga for me, you know, like, I don't even think that he should do too much. I just think he's good right now. Yeah, he don't have to. He don't have to. I think he's just, no. Yeah, I only ask just because, you know, with your project, I just feel like, I mean,
Starting point is 02:15:03 maybe it did all stem from Kanye 808s, but I do feel like that low-fied, dark, tone that is in R&B now really came from Toronto. I agree. Like, it's a Toronto sound. Your project, respectfully, to me, has a lot of Toronto influence in it. And I mean that in a very positive way. That's not, that's no wrong with that. Like, Toronto, I don't think gets the full credit,
Starting point is 02:15:29 not even specifically to Drake, go down a weekend, you go to party, go down the line with R&B artists. Toronto, I feel, like, kind of define the R&B sound that we're in right now. Yeah, I agree. Like from weekend, like you said, like, tone-wise, I feel like it sets a mood, it's a very moody vibe. Yeah. You know. It's overcast.
Starting point is 02:15:54 It's always cloudy there. Yeah, it's very cloudy. And for me, I love that. Like I said, I came up on grunge. Yeah. So I liked songs like Nirvana. Like Nirvana was also cloudy. you know um who else incubus and cether stained uh uh lincoln park you feel me like oh that also had a mood to it
Starting point is 02:16:20 as well so like for me i would i would say like i grabbed i grab a lot of the moodiness from those it may it may feel like that too though because i know i know they listen to a lot of shined they they listen to donnells a lot for sorry that's a big thing out there um Yeah, but for the most part, that's where I would, I would say I grab most of my mood from, you know, like that, that, that altie, very alternative rock music. Yeah. Yeah. No, you'd smoke Seattle for sure. Seattle's your city.
Starting point is 02:16:54 Yeah, no, that's at least you're beautiful. Like, yeah, I want to go to Seattle and just drive right around from playing. Is that in Seattle or some shit? Navana is. Yeah, they're from Seattle. Yeah. Yeah. But no, we, we appreciate you coming through.
