Welcome to NFL Daily, where weeks one and two, we're just warm-up acts.
I'm Greg Rosenthal.
I'm here in the Chris Wesleyan podcast studio with our Sunday night crew.
It's Nick Shook.
It's Jordan Rod Rieg.
On this Sunday, in the early and late windows, there were 13 games, my friends.
You know how many came down to the final five minutes?
Twelve of those games, almost all of those 12, by the way, came down to the final possession.
this was incredible. Are you ready
to live up to this day?
I'm so ready. I mean, we watched
so many games today, Greg.
And they all felt like a joyride
into outer space. It does. It does feel
like we're like overly stuffed on
these non-by-weeks, non-international
games. But we're going to meet the moment
here, Nick, on a game that I'm
very happy about we decided
to make a group game. There's
so many games we can't just assign each one
out. We decided to make
Ravens, Cowboys, a group.
game, hoping it would be the game of the day, hoping it would be one of, if not the best
international series games ever, and it delivered.
It was caught with one second left, but it was right at the buzzer.
They're going to have to review it and see if Jesse Minter got the final time out.
The quarterback number eight call time out with one second on the clock.
Please put one second on the clock.
How about this?
It is not a short one, but it's definitely makeable from 56 yards out, tied in.
31. One second left on the clock. Tyler Luke from Lovejoy High School in the Dallas area
to send the Cowboys home of the loss. It's up. It is. Inside the left of break.
It goes.
Oh, Rio. Fire up the bear. Baltimore. Downs Dallas in a stutter south of the equator.
Oh, great call by Kyle Hume.
Welcome to NFL Daily, new play-by-play, man for the Ravens, 34 to 31 in Rio.
Rod Woodson, also on that call for WB-B-A-L.
A lot of games have been played since the Super Bowl era started, Nick Shook.
That is the first one with two field goals.
In the final 10 seconds, Lamar Jackson finds his receiver open in just enough time to set up a redemption.
kick for Tyler Loop. Who started the season up and down. Good and week one, bad in week two,
this is all I care about in a game where I felt frankly that either team that won was going to
feel like they kind of stole one. And in the end, it was the Ravens that got it done. What did you think
was the key in a totally wild end to this performance? Yeah, wild fourth quarter because this felt at one point
like a game that the Ravens were this close to taking a two score lead and then just kind of riding it out
from there. And then they get stopped on the goal line. The Cowboys are their greatest standard.
entire season to keep it a one score game.
Dallas immediately responds, scores a touchdown.
And it's just back and forth for the remaining eight minutes of this quarter of the game.
And then I felt like, was it the big 10?
Did they just like go down to Rio and put one more second on the clock there?
I love that the international series got a game like this.
I want to hear your thoughts.
Here Jordan in a second.
But I do, as you mentioned, kind of the ending sequence of the game.
Let's just go over it quickly.
The Cowboys get the ball back with seven and a half minutes to go.
They go three and out.
Like that was the moment where it's like, wow,
I thought the Cowboys were the better team all day.
They were really controlling things,
but they were shooting themselves in the foot.
That happens.
Then a long Baltimore drive that is capped by a touchdown there to take the lead.
And they get the ball back.
The Cowboys go down the field.
They get on the one yard line here,
and they have plenty of clock.
They can try to take the clock down,
but it shouldn't be a factor overall.
And they end up not getting in on the first couple,
couple downs. They throw the ball on third down. It looks like George Pickens is open and
Dak Prescott just throws it over his head, throws it away, Schadenheimer. The Cowboys coach
talked about it after the game. Yeah, we thought we were going to score a touchdown. You know,
we thought we were going to score the touchdown. Um, and we move the ball really well down there.
We got to find a way to punch it in. I got to call some better plays to get it in. And then,
you know, of course, you know, when it became fourth down, we had to, had to take the points.
The last one?
Yeah, again, we called a quickout.
I probably overcoach DAC on that one, you know,
because we had the points, and I'll probably overcoach him on that
because it had to go to with the time, no timeouts,
it had to go to GP or throw it away.
Yes, he was throwing it away.
Yep.
And again, that's on me.
I overcoached him.
Sorry, Brian Schott.
And I almost cut you off there in my enthusiasm to translate
what you just said, actually.
14 seconds left.
That's when he,
Dak Prescott throws that incomplete pass
that short out to George Pickens
as the intended target.
That play is clearly the product of a coach
who is trying to play for the field goal
in that moment.
And a quarterback that's going along
with playing for the field goal in that moment
when he says he overcoached it,
he's saying that he put the constraints
on his own play card,
how they sequence plays.
There's an entire separate section
of that situation on the coach
on whoever the play, offensive play caller is his sheet.
And he basically truncated all of that down to say,
we are playing ourselves into the field goal right here
because we didn't score on that first or second down,
specifically that second down.
And that is where he's saying he overcoached it
because he's looking at the time on the clock
and he's looking at the field goal.
And right then and there, after that field goal,
is when Greg Rosenthal speaks up,
mutters more like, from the few seats behind the newsroom
and goes, all right, now let's go give Lamar Jackson a chance
to set the Ravens up for a field goal.
I said like seven seconds, that's enough time.
That's enough time to get to the middle of the field.
And it was a huge factor that Zay Flowers,
who caught that 27-yard pass,
was active for this game.
He was really important.
The Ravens got to be, like,
setting a record for success rate passing the ball through three weeks.
Even though they can't protect very well,
and they're running heavy,
like their success rate was through the roof in this game.
And Zayflowers was a huge reason why five catches 84-yard Zayflowers sets that up.
I think for what Schottenheimer was,
saying it was like the ghost of Marty, his dad as a coach got got in there. I don't think he told
Dak Prescott to throw that ball away. I think he's saying, I overcoach him by saying, if it's not
there, be careful. And when Dak Prescott starts to make that throw, it's one on one with George
Pickens. He's winning that matchup every time. When he starts to throw the ball, it looks like,
you know, he doesn't have great leverage. By the time he throws it, he knows he's made a huge mistake.
The game was over. Not over, because we saw what the Ravens did. You never know. But all he has
do is put that up there because Pickens got separation. It didn't happen. But ultimately,
like, it's disappointing that you're thinking of a fault from a quarterback in Dak Prescott,
who looked awesome all day. These two quarterbacks, like, they put on a show, which I absolutely
love for the Rio fan. Well, you know, the way you just described it was great, Jordan. And an angry
fan will probably just call it, they played not to lose because that's how they approached this whole thing,
because they had to preserve the field goal. I understand that. You got to preserve the opportunity
to go to overtime. But you got to give George Pickens a chance on that third down throw. You can't
just put it into what is the video board, like border of this field here in Rio.
And then I'm going to go back to something that Greg was very irritated by last year.
And I think this is the first instance in which we've had this happen this year,
which is why are you kicking the ensuing kickoff?
Why did you kick that out of the back end zone, Brandon Aubrey?
Make them field it, make them return it and take some time off the clock.
Aubrey was a huge.
Jesse Minters pointed out post game how huge that was that they got the touchback.
That happened in the Texans game.
Also, after a big Cowboys touchdown today,
to kind of take the lead.
Aubrey kicked it out of bounds
to set him up at the 40,
so that was a bad job.
And either team, like I said,
I felt would have felt like
they didn't quite deserve to win
in my eyes because I actually felt like
the Cowboys looked really good,
controlled the line of scrimmage,
did so many things well,
but they kept shooting themselves in the foot,
and it happened at the end of the game.
The reason why he's throwing the ball
from the five-yard line
is because they just took a penalty right before that.
They had, you know,
they're on the two-yard line
and Schoonmaker gets a false start.
And there were a ton of procedural penalties,
dumb mental mistakes from the Cowboys that put them in bad spots.
I just thought like they were physically ready for the fight.
The running game was pretty good for both sides, frankly.
Both defenses had moments.
Barham had a couple big moments on that fourth down stop.
Like, it was a great football game.
I do see this Cowboys defense improving.
I know people are going to look at the prevent situation at the end
and like pull their hair out, right?
But like through the last,
the latter part of this game, some of those short yardage, Baltimore run game stops multiple times.
And the offense has to go play up to their side of the bargain if you get the ball back like that,
especially if you get the ball back on downs at the goal line, like the Dallas defense,
forced that stop. And you could just feel it. You could feel it was like they needed that so badly.
But one team could actually finish this game and another team couldn't. And that's so clear.
Dallas, I agree that they looked physical, Greg, but their run game to me was so
feast or famine and the success rate looks good, but there was a couple explosives that
Javante Williams ripped off that to me are skewing some of what they actually did in the run game.
And everything to me, every time I would look at this game, it just felt like so difficult.
Like there was some overcomplication.
There was just, it just felt like I was looking at a long down and distance every time I see
Dak Prescott and a late down.
And I'm sitting there and I'm like, why is this so difficult to be a cohesive team for this
group right now?
Right now, they are better on defense.
their EPA per play, everything like that,
will be one of the five to seven worst defenses in the league
so far this season.
But ultimately, yeah, it's the Ravens
who make the big plays.
Unfortunately, some injuries in this game,
they lose their starting center,
Gwyn, right, at one point.
And then his backup, Ethan Poachett also goes down.
So you have the first round pick you want a snap in the ball
to win the game.
And doing a good job of it, by the way.
Right.
He did a good job.
There was one step,
it was like a little low,
Lamar gets it and just a fascinating game and a fascinating team, the Ravens,
who are clearly so much better run blocking than they are pass blocking,
and yet they are one of the best passing teams in the NFL right now.
Ravens go to two and one.
Cowboys fall to a disappointing one and two.
Let's go to Washington.
We're going to be talking about all the three and O teams.
There's six of them left in this show, but not for the first couple of games,
because the biggest upset of the day,
happened in Landover.
At the 44, a first down wins it.
Mario de and the gun.
Three wide receivers to the left.
Here's the snap.
He keeps it on the right, to the 40,
gets a block.
Dives to the 35 yards on.
It is so great to have Bram Weinstein back on the show.
33 to 31.
The commanders with Marcus Mariotta did it.
Not just without Jane Daniels today.
Not just without Laramie Tunsel.
Best backup in the league.
Remember him.
I mean, Marcus Marioita.
That gray hair.
Running the ball.
I love it.
They were also without Frankie Louvo, Chigo Concoe, Sam Cosmi.
They're all pro-guard.
Nick Cross, who's been their big pickup at safety.
If you're making a list of just like some of the most important players on the commander's roster,
they were all out today.
And yet, Marioita made up for a lot of it.
It's one of those games, Jordan, where I know the stats don't look insane.
He does get three touchdowns in 183 yards on 31 attempts.
But there was one team that rushed the passer outstanding today without blitzing.
That was Seattle.
And there was another team that sent tons of blitzes, couldn't really rush the pastor.
That was Washington.
And yet Marietta and Terry McLaurin especially made so many difficult, high leverage,
third down conversions and got just enough from their defense,
including three turnovers.
That's a pretty big deal to get a season-changing win before they head overseas next week.
And they scored off of those turnovers.
And so to me, it was Durante Jones showing why he is such a strong member of the Brian Flores tree.
Because, yes, he was sending the different pressure looks at Sam Darnold.
Sam Darnold, by the way, in his first game back from the butt injury that he suffered,
or, you know, glute injury, I guess, is the more proper thing to say.
We're all adults here.
Yeah, but we're all adults here.
The cool thing about this game was the commander's offense,
complimenting what their defense gave them to me.
Yeah. I love a high-risk defense when you don't have a ton of talent.
And that's where Washington is. They have a couple players playing well this year.
Javon Kinlaas stepped up. It looks better this year. Amic Robertson had four passes of defense in the
first half of this game. But he threw just enough chaos Sam Darnold's way to get a little lucky.
There was an interception that Sunny Stiles had was an awesome play off a tip that went off a helmet.
They really stopped the run well.
Judarian Price got benched after fumbling again early in this game, and they stopped the run all game.
But it was the pick six from a replacement that really turned it around.
27, 24, Washington.
Donald goes under center.
Here's this map.
Play action, roll to the left, chased by O.A.
Oh, I picked off Kane Madrope.
I love London Fletcher.
Kane Madrano.
And he's only in the game because unfortunately
there was a really serious injury
to Leo Chanel during the game.
That was a neck injury. So they're down to their
third, their fourth, their fifth linebackers.
And Darnold, who
dropped back to pass about 50 times in this game, was
outstanding overall.
Had his one bugaboo where he
often doesn't see the underneath defender
and he makes a mistake there
and he pays for it. And then he goes right down
the field and scores a quick touchdown and force
is the commanders to actually win the game on offense.
And that's why I was so impressed.
They really kept answering bell after bell after bell.
That's the beauty of this team.
And this is not what this team would have done, I think, last year.
They've been confronted with so much adversity so far in the season.
You lose Jay and Daniels at halftime last week.
You lose the game at Dallas, right?
You come back home.
You're playing the reigning champs.
This is a team that everybody expects to just steamroll you.
You punch him in the mouth early.
Then you get punched in the mouth by your own mistake.
When Bill Krosky Merritt has a 48-yard touchdown run nullified by penalty.
Then the Seahawks come down and immediately score to tie the game.
Lesser teams.
collapse. They wilt there. They don't come back
and fight for the rest of the game, but not these
commanders. They got fight. They got spirit.
We'll see. Punching and then self-punching.
Yes. Well, they don't know where the punches are going right now.
I do think they deserve to be one and two. Do the Seahawks
deserve to be 3-0? I guess not after today. Look, they out
gain Washington by about 170 in this game. This was a tough
recipe to pull off each and every week. They were missing
some key players. Julian Love was out for this game. Ty Ocada was out for
this game. Nickyman-Worry was in and out, but he actually did
finish the game, but only played about half the snap. So it's not the usual guys you see back
there. AJ Finley played every snap at safety for Seattle. So this might be a good time to try to go
after their defense. But ultimately, it's about Marioita, who I'm telling you when you watch
on tape during this week. I think we'll impress you because the Seahawks had nine quick pressures
in this game. And I think the commanders had either three or nothing. Like their offensive line,
Washington's was not really playing that well, like pass protecting or not.
It was just the old gunslinger making plays.
Well, and on time too, which it's interesting because Terry McLaurin played his best
game so far of the season.
And he was six for six catches on nine targets, 77 yards, and the touchdown.
They were all contested.
Like it was all tough catches.
He looked like he looked like himself.
And it's kind of like one of those things where you could tell those two specifically
have gotten a lot of whether it's practice or game.
whatever their timing and Terry McLaurin you know I wouldn't call Marcus Marriotto like an out of
structure playing quarterback or anything like that now he picked up some key plays with his legs but it was
so clear that those two just have a feel for each other the game ended in surprising fashion which
was after Seattle goes down the field in I think let's see it was an outrageous drive one minute
six second touchdown drive before the two minute warning on five plays so I was like oh my god
the commander is going to somehow blow this game.
They're going to need two first downs or they give the ball back to Seattle.
And they get it on a third and nine run by Rashad White.
And then that third and nine run by Mariotta,
not how you would have expected this game to end.
JSN just continues to be one of the best players in the NFL,
if not the best.
10 catches, 128 yards, two touchdowns.
But they need a little more out of Rashidjaheed,
not doing too much right now.
It's all Jackson Smith and Jigba or nothing.
Commanders get the win.
They're going to London next.
week. That game looks a little better right now than it looked going into the day.
You know what game looked a little better than I expected all day? It happened in Pittsburgh.
Burrow gets a snap. Play action pass rolling back. The pressure coming. Derek. The Sebastian
Joseph Day having. The Steelers think they have it for the official signal. And it is Pittsburgh
Steelers football. Great call there by Rob King and Max Starks on WDVE. The Steelers. I don't know why this
felt like such a big upset.
Like they were three and a half point underdogs.
They're at home.
It's a division rivalry, but it did.
They're two and one.
Bengals, two and one.
Not what I was expecting to see.
Derek Harmon, who's played fantastic the last two weeks,
not out of nowhere, but definitely the best two games of his career in a row,
gives a rare defensive highlight on an offensive lead day,
including a good performance by the Steelers offense, Gordon.
Do not let the very weird and interesting ending to this game in more ways
one distract you from the fact that the Steelers offense mostly looked completely different from the
first two weeks. Mike McCarthy holding a play card that was laminated so sharp. He looked like he wanted
to slice heads off with it on the sideline was in his bag. Motions, formation changes,
condensed sets, a lot of changing around what they did from play to play from series to series.
And Aaron Rogers was hitting his deep passes for the first time this season. His two first
touchdowns were two of his first three deep passes. And they were his first two deep ball
completions all season and nine attempts. A big difference here was that the receivers were,
at first, catching the ball. Roman Wilson being the receiver on the first touchdown. Ben Scoronic,
who had a great game, by the way, recovered a special team's issue that the Bengals had and gave
the Steelers another chance to score. Ben Scronick had a touchdown too. So it was a completely
different offense to meet mostly because the receivers started dropping the ball late in the game.
Over 400 yards, 7 yards per play, you put up 30 points on paper, before I break it down later in the week.
This looks like one of the most transformational.
Like, okay, maybe we have something here, games of the week.
What did you see, Jordan, like in terms of pass pro?
Because we've been given this Bengals pass rush a pretty good, you know, compliments throughout the last few weeks.
but it sounds like they protected well enough.
Yeah, they did.
They had, you know, Max Akenahor.
I'd do that wrong.
That's right.
They made the big change and at right guard as well.
And Brock Hoffman was in there too.
And I thought for the most part, it looked pretty solid.
But Aaron Rogers was also moving.
He actually scrambled.
He rolled a couple of times.
And like I said, the mixture of formations and motions and the different types of things
that were taking some of the teeth out of what the Bengals wanted to do to hassle Aaron
Rogers.
he did have time to step into his throws.
The big change here in a positive way was his receivers were more consistent
earlier on in the game.
Still had some issues with D.K. Metcalf late,
who had a hold that brought back for Jalen Warren must have put up like a hundred
extra yards on the ground that either got called back or a touchdown.
You were groaning after another D.K. dropped too.
And D.K., come on.
But had a touchdown, though.
And Roman Wilson dropped a couple at the end, too.
To me, a big Roman Wilson drop that was contested.
that he had some contact through it,
could have swung this game.
The Bengals really started teeing off
and really putting these drives together to
and trying to capitalize on it.
But it just,
they just kept going.
And this to me was probably one of the best
Mike McCarthy called games I've seen in a long time.
And Aaron Rogers,
you got kind of a more vintage Aaron Rogers game.
I mean, he looked great in this game for the most part.
It's crazy because when we looked at the first two weeks
of the Steelers offense,
we saw glimpses of what they wanted to do.
They just weren't doing it.
They weren't executing properly, but you could tell that they were more.
They wanted to be more aggressive downfield.
They wanted to open up this offense more like a Mike McCarthy offense does.
And then they finally get that opportunity.
And if you're trying to really break down, why did this work for the Pittsburgh Steelers against this defense that had played well through two weeks?
Let's think about offensive coordinator matchup.
Week one, you play the Buccaneers, Zach Robinson.
Week two, you play the Texans, Nick Cayley.
Now you're getting a guy who's seen and been in the NFL a lot longer than those two guys who comes in with an ideal game plan to attack them at their weaknesses.
and he's got the quarterback capable of doing it.
Maybe, I mean, this was the second worst offense going into today.
But they weren't today?
They weren't today.
And you know what?
They finally got our guy, Mount Washington, unhinged.
Take the hand off.
Rogers, tossed to the tight end.
Washington.
The big man works his way to the sideline.
Washington.
Men's play for Pittsburgh.
When you feel the earth move,
from Mount Washington.
This guy is a weapon.
It was, that was a delightful thing to watch in real time.
And like, what a great call.
And to me, what's really interesting here is the Bengals,
so the Bengals went shot for shot for the most part.
You know, T. Higgins had a great touchdown catch as well.
Joe Burrow was doing a lot of different things.
Initially, they were getting the play action working.
Then he went back into the gun.
they were doing different things, had some big gains from multiple players, even though they lost.
They're even thinner now at receiver and even Mike Gisicki got banged up a little bit by the end of the game.
To me, the Steelers were so fortunate that their defense came through and stepped up big for them because the Steelers had opportunities to move down the field.
And Dexter Lawrence, you know, the Bengals defensive tackle, Greg.
Good player, Greg.
It's great.
who he he sacked Aaron Rogers twice on third and must have and held them to field goals.
And so if the Steelers hadn't have been able to close with that play,
there was a sense that Joe Burrow was going to march this team back down the other way
and potentially go ahead and could because they weren't ahead by touchdowns instead of field goals.
They only had three points at that time.
Yeah, I got a very angry text from our friend, the Spice rack,
long-time listeners, and though saying that the final,
drive started by burning their second time out with 208 left. And it was very clear that Joe Burrow was
furious with Zach Taylor at the time. Yeah. I've been there too, Joe. I've been there too. Big win
by the Steelers to get to two and one. Talk about matchups in prime time that look a little better
than they did this morning. Oh. Brown Steelers will get to the Browns in just a little bit.
For the first time on this show, we got to hit one of the undefeated teams. Let's go.
to the Nickel City Bill.
Three tight end set.
Knox lines up behind Allen.
It's a sneak over the left side,
and Alan is in untouched for a two-yard touchdown run.
And Alan, with his two rushing touchdowns,
becomes the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era,
with two or more rushing touchdowns in three consecutive games.
He is now the fourth player to run for multiple touchdowns
in each of his team's first three games.
joining Jim Brown, Stephen Davis, and Priest Holmes.
Nothing more successful than a Josh Allen run.
He's stealing all those touchdowns from James Cook, who did get one eventually,
in a 24 to 16 Chargers loss.
Bills win, go to 3-0.
Chargers have not won a game.
Man, for so much of this game, Nick Shook, it looked like it'd be different.
The Chargers jump out to a third.
10-0-0 lead.
They don't take advantage of five
turnovers forced by their defense.
They somehow outgain the bills
and go plus four in terms of
turnovers overall.
And yet they lose.
How did they do this?
Okay, well, first off,
every team that's giving up
these Josh Allen one-yard touchdown runs,
I have a message for you.
He's going left.
Right.
Okay.
Okay?
He's going left.
Just shoot that gap, please.
Okay.
So how did this happen?
Well, if you're the Los Angeles Chargers
and you, I told you going into Buffalo that you were going to force two Josh Allen
interceptions and a fumble and you were only going to get 10 points out of it, would you be a
little disappointed?
Would you be a little concerned?
Because that's where they lost the game.
It wasn't the second half.
They played a great first half.
They were clean, didn't commit any penalties, forced the takeaways.
Only got 10 points out of it, had a drive with a missed field goal.
And then the second half, they go back to the charges that they were in the first two weeks,
which is penalties all over the place.
There's a 13-play 69-yard drive in which,
four penalties are accepted against them for 30 yards.
Two of them being blocking penalties,
Aranda Gadsden with a block in the back,
Joe Alt with a hold.
And yet Justin Herbert finds a way to overcome this with his arm strength,
with his armed talent,
ripping a couple of beautiful throws in this drive alone.
And yet they end up settling for three points.
And then from there, it's just a litany of,
like my notes just say, blank, comma, no.
We start with Dalton Kincaid.
No, because Tarheed still punches the ball out of his grasp
on a long catch run and Tony Jefferson recovers.
That's another takeaway for the Chargers.
Josh Allen, no.
He fumbles on a third down sack.
Fifth giveaway of the day for the Buffalo Bills.
Chargers should be winning this game.
They should be winning this game by a substantial margin.
Then it's Justin Herbert.
No.
throws the interception over the middle.
Let's get to that one.
Bill's rush for Herbert with time.
Fires down the middle.
It is picked off.
Intercepted C.J. Gardner Johnson with a lane.
Gardner Johnson ripped down across the 40.
What a huge play and a 41-yard return.
Herbert's trying to throw down the middle of the field,
the ball desk gambling, but there's a safety in the middle of the field.
And that's Gardner Johnson.
Poor awareness, poor decision.
Throws him a meatball song.
Hot and ready.
I love that Tom Brady.
he's on socials and he's trying to get clipped.
It worked.
That was a meatball sub.
I like the D-Linman just porpoising.
He's like, wah!
I also like that C.D. Deuce,
Johnson, he's in the honeymoon phase.
He's changing games again.
He's in big spots.
I love that.
For all the tiresome Herbert discourse that's about to hit the airwaves this week,
and it is rough.
and I was getting texts.
I got to watch this game closer
from interested parties
who I trust well
that was absolutely killing
Trey Harris and Valda Scantling
and Quentin Johnston
for the way that they played this game
the receiver is not helping out.
That was a meatball stuff.
Yeah.
That was like that was the turning point
of the entire game.
They're driving at 13 to 10.
It's just rough.
Plus Cameron Dicker's missing kicks.
Like everything that can go wrong
for the Chargers is going wrong.
But man,
this one hurts.
That interception happens
after the Josh Allen fumble
that's on Buffalo's 28.
That is the biggest waste
of all of this takeaways
on the day for the Chargers
and it continued from there
because even after
they were saved by a holding call
on Dawson Knox
that wiped out a Ty Johnson touchdown,
they get the ball back
with a comeback attempt in mind.
And then there's a third down pass
where Herbert puts it right on Quentin Johnston
beyond the sticks
and he drops it.
And then they turn it over on downs.
They just, for as high of a sense,
of urgency as they had going into this game.
Understanding we are owe into our backs against the wall.
We cannot afford to be who we were the last two weeks.
They wasted all of that and became the Chargers again.
And the Bills, meanwhile, not to talk about the losing team the entire time, but the
bills, they get out of here with a win that they probably feel like they maybe don't deserve,
but they'll point to as, look at us overcoming our own self-inflicted wound.
But, Chuck, didn't you see all the reports pregame that the Chargers practiced extra
hard?
Oh, and they played extra hard for a quarter and a half.
The thing, our producer Eric Roberts has big feelings, negative feelings, about the Bills jerseys that they wore.
Yes. Yeah. They're 1-0. I'm defeated.
Yeah. And I just have to posit, was it just a battle of the cursed entities and whoever was the least cursed, whether it's those jerseys or the Chargers themselves right now.
I mean, you can not like the jerseys. They don't look like it's a Bills team that's wearing those jerseys. I get it.
But the facts will state. They are undefeated in Nickel City jersey.
Analysis.
When it matters. And maybe we'll never see them again.
I think, I think, I think they're bringing it back.
How about the running game though?
James Cook and the running game, 33 carries overall for the team, 176 yards.
This is the recipe for the Bills to get a W.
And they got it done against a game Chargers team that falls to three losses on the season.
Man, it's going to be an ugly week here in Los Angeles.
Bill's undefeated.
That's the first of the undefeated teams.
Entering Monday, because we still got to be.
the Eagles to play. There are six
undefeated teams.
We will hear from a whole gaggle of them
after the break.

at the 40, all by himself. Oh, he lost the football. It's loose at the 35. Eric Stokes crawls
on top of it. That's the fourth takeaway. That's ballgame. Natobo Dean, his third straight game
with a fours fumble and the Raiders are getting three and oh.
Love what a call does our work for us.
Jason Horowitz.
Great job on KRLV.
There were different points.
We were going to go with different ways to start this game.
We're going to get to Brock Bowers' excellent afternoon.
But then when you go fumble, interception, fumble, fumble to end what was a shootout,
you got to go with that big play by the Raiders defense, the undefeated Raiders.
35 to 27 in a fun one, Jordan.
I had a blast. This was an awesome game. It was weird and chaotic.
You know, the fourth quarter where Tyler Shuck has been so, so good. It has been his best friend,
the fourth quarter, suddenly completely imploded and inverted on him in terms of the vibes.
Because when you mention those possessions and how the possessions ended, it's because Tyler Shuck goes fumble,
interception, fumble, and he's getting sacked. And that's what's,
leading to the fumbles.
And the Clint Kubiak Raiders score 14 points off of those three
turnovers and then obviously seal the game at the end of it.
That was the entire story because these teams were hanging around with each other.
It was a fun game where the run game started going in the third quarter
for both of these teams.
But it was the Saints turning over the ball that many times sequentially.
And the Raiders capitalizing off those turnovers that really,
really sealed this one.
The surprising thing is how clean overall, to me, that the Raiders' offense has been this season.
It's been well-coached, and it makes it easier to coach when Brock Bowers is back in the game.
Ten catches 116 yards and this touchdown.
Down to two.
They get the snap.
Cousins looking left, fires left.
Tompowers at the goal line.
Spins forward.
You got a touchdown.
Brock Bowers, his first touchdown of the year.
He is back maybe.
And the Raiders cap off the masses kick.
Go for six.
3427 with 622 to go.
You guys, the ends are officially tight.
Oh, ain't out.
Okay, six of seven touchdowns for either team today.
We're scored by a tight end.
That six, those six touchdowns by tight ends tied in NFL record, getting tongue tied.
Set in 1981, Noah Fant, Michael Myers, Joanne Johnson, Noah Fant again, and finally Brock
Bowers with that last highlight that you just saw and heard. It was such a, I am going to just
geek out over this game for so long type of game. I had so much fun. Yes, to your point,
previously, Greg, it was genuinely a clean, positive operation. I thought for both teams,
minus the run game. It was very pass heavy and they were moving these tight ends and especially
Brock Bowers was moving all around the formation. He was playing against man coverage. He was playing in
zones. They were doing so many different things with these guys. Then they get their run games
going, both of them, in the third quarter. And then you could really see what it is that these
football teams are both uniquely trying to be, which was very exciting, I thought. The Saints
certainly, you know, like to play with two or three tight ends on the field. Nothing too crazy.
Yeah. 30, 40%, whatever. You know how many plays that the Raiders didn't line up in heavy personnel
today? And I would define that as two tight ends, three tight ends, or two backs, or six offensive
of lineman, of which there were many plays.
You know how many plays?
Three.
Three plays.
That's outrageous.
That is absolutely next level.
That's a Jordan Rodriguez.
That's a Jordan Rodriguez football game.
Bullitt ball.
And look, it's not setting up an effective running game right now.
Mike Washington ripped off a long one.
That was huge for them.
But overall, they haven't run the ball that well the last couple weeks, but it's setting up
the passing game.
Yeah.
And Ashton Janty looks like he's a little bit banged up.
He had a tough.
go of it a couple of times this game. I think getting him spelled a little bit with Mike Washington
who had their explosive gains and then getting Ash and Janty back in the mix in the passing game
serves the Raiders well right now as a formula. On the other side of it, it was Alvin Camero being
the spark for the Saints run game in the third quarter, getting a little Kendra Miller in there
and just really trying to get that push that they really badly were missing through the first part of
that game. It, you know, I hate to, I hate that. I hate that.
that they just completely imploded with those turnovers because you really got the sense late in this game that this was going to go back and forth and back and forth and back and forth all the way until zeros.
Well, I mean, the Raiders tried to give them another opportunity.
Like there was a period there where we thought, okay, this is over with the second to last turnover.
And then the Saints managed to get the ball back one more time.
Yeah, Kirk Cousins get sacked.
Yes.
It's a sack fumble.
Yeah.
So, which is covered by Connor Hayward, which is hilarious because he like runs to the left and then quickly realize.
He's like, oh, I'm doomed.
But then he goes out of back.
We can't advance the ball because of what the situation was.
So it was like Connor Howard being like, do I run out of balance here?
Like what do I do here?
So they get the ball back with a decent amount of time.
But, you know, I guess fittingly, that's how the game ends with the Juan Johnson fumble.
And the thing that broke my heart the most is I have this running joke with myself because I don't
think anybody else is going to get on board.
But I love Juan Johnson as one of my favorite tight ends.
We've discussed this before.
And he had a huge moment in week one against Detroit in that comeback attempt.
He had a huge moment last week.
last week. And there he is again, catching touchdowns in the second half. I have coined him
America's tight end. But he's really only my tight end. So when he fumbles, that was the end of America's
tight end. I mean, you guys know what they say. Tid end give it the tight end takeeth away.
It's fair. And look, he could be America's Sighton. He's trying to be. He's trying to be like a
TikTok star. He's, he's doing a lot, Joanne Johnson. Are you on TikTok? I am not. You've referenced it
multiple times so far. I am not, but I hear, I hear, I hear, I hear,
plate sometimes or some fans of his. He's always doing the most. Chris Olavi goes over 100 yards
again. We should mention Tyler Shuck did throw for four touchdowns before it all caved in. But the
Saints Luz, they're at 1 and 2 and the Raiders, one of the stories of the seasons. Also a big story.
Hezekiah Masses with his third interception. I mean, he's a defensive rookie of the year
candidate right now. What a story. This Raiders team has been another surprise, 3 and 0 team.
getting great play from their defense,
went to Tampa today and got another W.
Time takes the snap, four-man rush,
Cashman got through,
Baker spins away from him to the left.
Now Eric Wilson's trying to ruin his day.
Baker's able to get away from that.
He's looking like Fran Tarkington with the way he's running around.
So he'll throw it to the right.
Interception!
And Ginkle has picked off Baker Mayfield.
That was Paul Allen on K-F-A-N, a fitting conclusion.
to a 23 to 16 victory by the Minnesota Vikings over the Buccaneers in Tampa.
Baker Mayfield dislocated his thumb on that play.
He will take an MRI to determine how serious the injury is.
He was in a lot of pain.
But I thought that had to be the highlight, shook,
because that was the game, both these quarterbacks, Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.
Or King Bowl.
being totally flummoxed by the blitzes that were coming at them.
And Baker, in particular here, just trying to make a play, just trying to make a play running around.
Everything is chaotic.
It's more of the same from what we saw this season.
I should have seen this coming in this game.
I thought the Buc's offense would respond better and the defense would play well.
The defense did.
But man, they just had no answers for what Brian Flores, who goes over 50% in terms of the blitz rate.
again, you know, it was calm for him, like 55%.
So many quick pressures.
As good as the Buck's defense was, the Vikings defense was even better.
Well, not only is it the short King Bowl, it's the short Sooners Bowl,
and it's also the Blitz ball because both of these coaches love the blitz,
Brian Flores and Todd Bulls.
So you knew that this was going to be.
The Bulls bowl.
Oh, wow.
That too.
Almost as good as last week's Todd Bull.
But the big issue with this is what that clip showed,
that play that ends the game for the Buccaneers and seals the victory for the Vikings,
is what we've seen from the Buccaneers offense all season,
which is Baker in the pocket.
Baker not sure where to go.
Baker trying to reset.
Baker trying to bail out.
Disaster occurring afterward.
And Buccaneers fans have to be very frustrated.
Vikings fans, meanwhile, have to be very, just elated that they have won three games
that are not conventional by any means.
No.
They are three and O with like familiar instability at quarterback.
Their quarterback that they chose to start this year does not look good,
especially under duress like he did today.
And yet here they are three and O in really tough to,
vision. So it's a win for them. Yeah. As much as Baker struggled,
Kyler Murray, I thought looked worse today. Both of them were just
holding the ball and trying to make a play. And it was just,
it was just chaos bowl ball, but Baker was a little bit better at it. I mean,
chaos ball. I don't know. Can we play? Baker ball.
Keep sod rolling, baby. It's taken on a new. Yeah, it feels it feels wrong.
Bigger ball. Keep side rolling, baby.
horrible.
It's horrible.
When that play happened and it was a somewhat controversial call,
according to the Bucks people I follow,
that was a fourth and 13 when they still had three timeouts
and could have punted it away.
I think it was the right decision by Todd Bowles
because you're at midfield at that point
and you can still stop them three and out,
get the ball back in theory anyway.
Either way, it's going to be hard.
And they did.
But it was a game where you just couldn't move the ball.
Here's the third quarter of this game, by the way.
Just to give you an idea of what kind of football.
nine possessions between the two teams.
In those nine possessions,
there was a total of 27 yards and three first downs.
Hot.
Just total domination.
There's a sequence here where the Buccaneers on,
let's see,
math,
seven possessions,
six of them punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt,
field goal,
field goal, interception, interception.
It's partly why I don't kill Baker as much for this game.
There were eight quick pressures from the,
the Vikings linebackers alone.
13 overall.
That's outrageous.
That's only compared to three from the bucks.
So there are issues with this Vikings offense.
The success rates for these two teams in this game had to be the worst game of the season.
It was under 20.
They were both at 23%.
So it was like equally bad.
They just took advantage of a couple short fields the Minnesota Vikings did.
But Kyler honestly looked like a problem.
Justin Jefferson, I should have mentioned earlier, leaves this game with an
ankle injury in the first quarter. That is going to change the Vikings offense. Obviously,
today, the plan and moving forward, if that's a long-term injury, that's a major problem.
But Kyler just was not comfortable at all back there. And I thought they protected him well enough.
Like he had time and he's just holding it. He's falling away from throws. There's a couple like
hope balls to Jordan Addison that worked out, some that didn't. But it all felt just like hope balls.
And they need to run the ball better, too.
I mean, I think it's pretty clear that Aaron Jones is a little banged up.
I mean, he was banged up last week and was cleared late in the week this, you know, leading up to this game.
But, man, the Vikings, they have to settle Kyler down.
They have to find a way beyond, drop my pen.
That was nice catch.
Greg's pen.
Great job.
They have to find a way beyond the protection up front to settle Kyler into a rhythm to make him comfortable back there.
Because to your point, it did look like they were protecting him okay.
It's just every other element that makes Kyler Murray tick.
Honestly, I just think they need to, everyone needs to settle.
That's the problem, though, is when can you recall the last time Kyler Murray looked settled?
It's been a minute.
It's been years.
Yeah, Clayton Adams, James Connor, Drew Petzing.
He had some moments in 2024.
But yeah, that was a while ago.
These two running games were both total disasters.
The bucks were actually worse, under 20% success rate.
And they lost Bucky Irving to what looked like.
a back injury at the end of the game.
He left. But yeah, Minnesota couldn't run the ball.
Tampa couldn't. But this Vikings defense is special.
And I know that they're going to have to play better offensively long term, but these wins count.
And the Buccaneers are in the NFC South.
So there are only one game back at O and three.
But when I saw that fourth down play call and Baker got hurt, I was like, and those are one of those
plays that you think about like when a coach gets fired.
I don't think Todd Bull is getting fired this week.
Yep.
but they're 0 and 3,
and he will need to start winning games sooner than later
or it'll become a discussion.
Man, this Vikings team is fun to watch.
Miles Price, by the way,
with special teams long touchdown.
I don't know.
I got to listen to this call.
Eric said it was amazing,
and I know we've gone long on this game,
but we got a return touchdown.
It only happens so often in the season.
Here's veteran Riley Dixon.
He's had nine blocked in his career.
Not that when he gets it off to Miles Price,
who cuts loose at the game.
15. It's right to the 20.
He gets it in by Dixon at the 50.
To the crib.
That is loose.
Miles Price touchdown.
Blacks on the field.
That's the Minnesota Vikings first.
Punt return touchdown since Marcus
Carroll's in 2016.
And Miles Price just gave his position coach
Matt Daniels a birthday gift
because today is Matt's
birthday and it's 9-0 Minnesota.
That's good context to add it in there.
But Miles Price
has been flirting with this
basically since the preseason.
He might be the early leader
in terms of all pro return man.
Not too many punt return touchdowns
in the NFL each year.
The Vikings get it done.
Special teams and defense.
The Purple People Leader
Vikings would be proud.
Let's go to a team
that has been complete all year
and they play in Santa Clara.
Purdy under center,
McCaffrey behind it.
Use check in motion.
Here's the snap.
Play action.
Purdy rolling out to his right.
Pumps.
Kettle!
Touchdown!
Forty-None.
A big hug.
It's the fourth touchdown pass of the game for Brock Purdy.
And the 49ers with a clutch drive.
I love when the analyst in the game, I believe this time it's Tim Ryan.
This goes, Kittle early on the play.
And you're like, George Kittles open.
Good call there by Guy Haberman on KNBR.
The 49ers start fast on offense.
They finish fast once again.
And in between, the defense falls apart a little, lets the Cardinals back into this game.
But ultimately, they hold on for a 36 to 30 victory.
Brock Purdy throws four more touchdowns.
Chuck, what did this young MVP candidate look like?
Ooh, I like that.
And I will support that idea through three games.
I mean, he did more of the same.
He's completely comfortable in this offense.
He diced him up again.
And that throw right there, I thought it was actually fitting because it was a good little
of redemption for George Kittle because Purdy had this
incredible scramble for a touchdown
that then was nullified by a Kittle block in the back.
And as it happens, he hits Buda Baker
in the back, Baker goes down to the ground
and Kittl immediately turns to see if there's a flag.
A flag is already falling. And he just goes, no.
So then for him to catch the touchdown that
then seals this game was nice. But it's,
this is an offense that, unlike their
defense in the current state, has most of
its key guys. Christian McCaffrey, obviously being there.
Mike Evans played a role until he left with an injury.
You know what you have in George Kittle.
The whole group just looked solid. They looked like
team and a group that is just very familiar with what they're supposed to do.
They also did something that we probably haven't seen since the Ben Johnson Lions, which is
run a hook and ladder early in the game.
An incredible play call. It was the first play of the game, hook and ladder, which leads to
one of the best box score moments that we will have all season long.
Debo Samuel has zero targets in this game, zero catches, but he is listed under receiving with
an 80 yard touchdown. That is unreal on the, on the first, you know, quarter of the game there.
A little collab, little Mike Evans to Debo Samuel, getting around the edge, breaking an arm tackle
from Buda Baker. Nobody's going to catch him. Good job, Denzel Burke on giving up on the play early.
You probably could have caught him, but it doesn't matter. Debo Samuel in the end zone for a
touchdown. That's what set the tone for the day for the 49ers. And for a lot of this game,
it just felt like they were miles ahead of the Cardinals. It wasn't until the defensive injuries
started to pile up for the Niners. Again, the team that always seems to suffer the most injuries.
Greenlaw leaves in the fourth quarter with a quad.
Halton, one of the defensive linemen gets hurt on
Arizona field goal and
basically is dealing with an issue there.
Diomador, Lenora leaves early, returns.
Mike Evans, obviously, in the offensive side.
Look like he was in a ton of pain when he left, but they just cannot get
out of this. Trent Williams leaves with a stinger as well.
They can't get out of these games without getting hurt.
But it speaks to their,
I don't know, intestinal fortitude, their ability to
overcome this adversity that they're able to,
even when the Cardinals fight their way back, still
finish the job because the last possession that
they had before that kiddle touchdown, way too
easy for their offense, just going right through the Cardinals' defense. Yeah, Trent Williams,
Stinger, that doesn't usually end up as a long-term injury. Mike Evans, they don't know if it's a
broken rib. Kyle Sanehan said after them, it could be an oblique injury as well. He looked to be in a lot
of pain. Jordan, Brock Purdy's performance last week was the best in terms of EPA per play by any
quarterback all season long. Can you guess what was the number two performance all season long by any
quarterback and EPA per play.
Rock Purdy.
Today.
Pretty good.
You know, you're doing a nice job
or really teeing me up for these.
I tried to set you up.
You're two for two.
Man, another insane stat.
And I know, like, it's early and
yeah, they played the Rams in Australia.
So some people will poo-poo that.
And the dolphins and the Cardinals, not the two,
you know, greatest defenses in the world.
But this is one of the most insane stats I've ever heard.
They have almost as many wins so far
this season as they have negative plays
on offense.
They have four negative plays.
Wow.
That's crazy.
That's insane.
That's not counting kneel downs.
We don't count kneel down.
The Cowboys were at seven by the fourth quarter today.
In today's game?
In today's game.
Wow.
Like, holy shit.
It is going to get more difficult for them.
Sorry.
That's a crazy stat.
It's got to get more difficult for them because they play Denver in Seattle next.
Okay.
We'll get real tests here.
It's already dead.
They're missing half their roster.
Yeah.
It is, it's tough.
hope they get healthy.
But I also hope Nick shook in his heart feels a little bad for ranking them seventh in the
power.
I mean, they're the number one team in DVA.
We're going to have a lot of movement this week.
And you had him seventh last week, man.
You know what I at least like to see in this game before we move on is just, hey,
the Cardinals, if you're going to fall down big, at least get like Michael Wilson and McBride
and Jeremiah love some fantasy stats.
And I won't even call them garbage time because they got back into this game.
I want to see that out of this Cardinals team because this will be.
happening to them. The Cardinals and the Dolphins started the year as the two bottom teams in terms of
projected over under win total. The Cardinals have been surprisingly frisky for moments of Miami's
game on Sunday. They were frisky as well. Third down and six with a chiefs at the 11 of the
Dolphins 1710 Kansas City. Three minutes to go in the game. Walker the lone setback. Drifts into the right
flat. Mahomes will throw a corner route. Caught this side. Touchdown. Kansas City. 61 touchdown passes.
Now by Mahomes to Kelsey. I should have given the dolphins a little more credit here.
This game was still a game until that drive and that touchdown to make it two scores is just under
three minutes to go. Creditable performance here by the Miami Dolphins who tend to play really well
in the first half on offense.
Mitch Holtis from KFNZ
on the call there. Ultimately, the Chiefs got it done.
They are 3 and O
on the season and the Dolphins fall
to 0 and 3.
What stands out to you most from this one, Joel?
Well, I want to be clear, like to me,
it felt like the Chiefs were inevitable
to win this game. I mean, they've been playing
so well and deserve a lot
of praise for that. But because
we probably won't be singing a ton of praises
for the Dolphins this season, I did
want to shout him out a little bit.
Speak for it.
Speak for a not yourself.
You're praising them every week.
You love this.
The lone voice in the very loud crowd, Greg.
Miami hung in there and hung in there and hung in there and hung in there through more of this game than the box score shows.
I love that you shouted that out.
And Malik Willis played well other than a fumble that was lost and then an interception.
The timing of those were difficult.
The fourth quarter, they're down.
Right before that Travis Kelsey touchdown on the previous Dolphins possession,
they're down just a touchdown and Maliquelis throws incomplete on third and fourth down.
So then that's what sort of killed them was in the late down situations,
in the time where they could,
they were hanging around and hanging around,
the time where they could really seize an opportunity to capitalize on a pretty close score
and some vulnerabilities that the chiefs showed,
whether it was their foot wasn't totally on the gas,
they were a little bit vulnerable defensively as well to some of the things that Miami wanted to do.
and to me, and then the, the Dolphins defense
was keeping them in this game as well,
which we'll get to in a minute.
But it was not capitalizing in these opportunities.
A couple of failed fourth downs.
And then, you know, at the exact wrong time,
the miscues happened.
And through three weeks in the Malik Willis era,
unfortunately, that feels like the theme,
which is I see the potential.
I see that you're putting things together.
You're getting down the field,
but I'm pretty sure you're not going to finish it with six points.
It's actually been really consistent, like that,
They've moved the ball pretty well in the first half.
He's had late game turnovers.
Their running game has been a huge letdown all season.
Unfortunately, they lost Devon A. Chan in this game to an injury,
knee injury that after the game, Jeff Hapley said did not look good.
So that's really disappointing.
Ollie Gordon comes in and he struggles 41 yards on 17 carries.
He gets banged up as well to the point where he has to leave the game to get an IV at halftime.
And then he's not in at the start of the third quarter.
the Dolphins don't have another active running back.
So it's receiver Malik Washington, who's coming in and taking handoff.
So this is a huge issue that they have to figure out because if they could have run the ball
consistently through this game, that was where the chiefs were showing at least a little bit
of earlier vulnerabilities.
That and the fact that the Dolphins defense, they were playing hard.
Man, they're young.
They're going to have big errors.
They're going to have big holes open and all of that.
But this guy, this rookie Jacob Rodriguez, I.
Oh, yeah.
31 other teams wish this kid was, this young man was on their team
because he has two run steps, two tackles for loss,
and an interception of Patrick Mahomes.
And, you know, the old guys are playing well too.
You know, these are guys who are, they know that they are what they are this year.
That's what I really took from both of these teams.
The chiefs know exactly who they are and what they are already.
And they are running the ball with Kenneth Walker,
who has two touchdowns today.
And they are doing the things that get them through games like this.
And that's what they did.
You know, great teams and teams that are going to be a behemoth down the stretch can do that.
The dolphins are very self-aware, too.
They played their asses off.
How do you think Mahomes looked?
Rishie Rice had seven catches, 88 yards.
So his best game on the young season.
You know, the running game was solid.
He wasn't really bothered.
Like he wasn't getting pressured.
Mahomes.
He looked, again, this looked like a very self-aware chiefs team where, you know, other than the
interception, which was kind of bubbled and batted and a great play on,
you know, ultimately on the dolphin side, you know, this looked like go and take care of business leave.
So that was 3 in O Corner.
So excited.
My voice cracked.
Let's take a break.
If we're going to get out of 3 and O Corner, let's take a break and we'll come back and we'll talk about Nick Shooks Browns as teased earlier.
Don't advertise him like that.
See if he's getting on board.
Okay.
How about Andrew Sicilianus?
There we go.

Bryce Young, five at the play clock.
calls for the football has the football young to throw young backpedaling back pedaling
throwing ball up in the air picked off swissengers got it no it's ronnie hickman who cares who's got it
it's picked off with the pressure and the browns will oh i love andrews to ciliano he knows
not about how the call starts it's how you finish you can recover from that
Great game. Great job by the Browns winning 21 to 18.
Andrew, of course, working for day WKRK.
And just thinking thematically, Chuck, I'm thinking about how the young players made big plays in this game.
And so I want to go right away to the ending sequence, which includes a go-ahead touchdown by another young player, Harold Fannan Jr.
third down Browns can get a first down just inside the five Watson has the snap
Watson looks left Deshawn up in the pocket Deshawn throws and don't punch steady
that crack at Andrew's voice explains the pure joy of that moment for Browns fans
you're five years old Greg laughing at the word crack no that's not why I'm laughing
I'm more laughing that Andrew's got to be listened to this if we're lucky great job by Andrew
And great job on the Thursday night recap.
And he's going to be like, why you focus so much on me?
Because that explains the joy that Browns fans felt in a game in which they were almost certain they were going to lose.
It followed the formula of, I don't know, the 20, 23 Browns where it's hoped to get enough from your offense.
Defense carries you through most of the day.
Then the defense runs out of energy at the end.
And it looked like it for a while with John Mechie catching an eight yard touchdown pass from Bryce down at the end of a drive that moved way too quickly for anybody's standards.
and the Browns being down 18 to 13
and fans confronting the fact
that they needed Deshawn Watson
to lead a touchdown drive.
He did it for the second straight week
and he did it with a play like that,
which I haven't seen from him in a long time,
stepping up and out of the pocket,
making the throwoff platform to Harold Fanon
who was open and letting him know
I'm open in the end zone
and then he's able to celebrate
and great day for the Browns.
Yeah, from what I saw,
and it was definitely true last week.
I called it it was Watson's best game as a Brown,
I thought, and definitely the best he's moved as a Brown.
He ends up with 45-year.
yards on the ground. There he's extending place. Look, they average, you know, he average under five
yards per pass attention to his disastrous. And I saw two dropped interceptions. So it could have
looked a lot different for Deshawn Watson. But what do you think overall they're doing on
offense and defense that are kind of complementing each other and getting off to the surprising two
and one start? They definitely tried to run the ball more today to mixed results with Quinchan
Judkins, Rocket Sanders with one carry. But it's every time he touched the ball, which I think it was
like two or five times. It felt like a pivotal moment. He extended a drive there. But what it really
comes down to is the defense being suffocating, generating pressure, not even having to blitz that much
and still generating pressure. Mason Graham being the center of this defense through three weeks. He's
already got four sacks this season. He makes a bunch of big plays in this one. He has a sack late
against the Panthers where he takes down Bryce Young on third and 10 and sets up a long fourth down.
They don't convert that when they turn it over on downs. Looks like the Browns might win. He's been a force.
splits a double team on that sack specifically.
He had one earlier in this game that kind of set the tone.
He kind of embodies the way this defense is running right now, which is
I'm shedding my blocker and I'm just going straight to the quarterback.
And because they're caging a lot of these guys, they're there for the taking.
It's also Carson Squesinger, who's been excellent, who was the defensive rookie of the year last
year.
And it's the rest of this defense, the secondary and some of these names that you may not, like,
you might recall Mackay Blackman.
He's back there.
Ronnie Hickman gets the interception to finish the game, but you still have Grant
Delpy, you got Denzo Ward.
Miles Hardin is getting a lot of.
snaps. What I like the most about this group is that Jared versus leads them in pressures today
doesn't log a sack but also makes a difference. They're playing cohesively on that side and they're
getting enough out of the offense and the fourth quarter, which is basically Deshaun Watson to
Denzel Boston time every week to be able to win these games. Sumer Sports, you can get these
advanced statistics from different outlets, has them in this game as the highest pressure rate in
any game by any team this season.
They have them over 60%.
First with his best game, six pressures,
according to NGS and three were quick.
Bryce Young went into the medical tent a couple times,
came out.
He was just getting hit all the time.
Like they moved the ball,
but he threw the ball,
I think, you know, 48 times in this game,
more dropbacks.
They just need to get it done.
They fall down to one and two.
Kind of a letdown game,
I would say, by the Panthers after that Falcons win.
Yeah, that banged up in a lot of places, too, with the Panthers.
And, you know, Jalen Coker comes in and he's already dealing with an injury.
J.C. Horn has to leave the game with what Dave Canales was calling, I think, a quad injury.
Bryce Young was talking about how he hurt his foot, which on one of those times where he was trying to escape pressure and got hit.
And that Dave Canales said that that did affect some of the throws.
I mean, you know, we've such a high ceiling for this Panthers offense.
In my opinion, we've seen what it can achieve.
It's staying healthy, protecting the court.
and sustaining, you know, that play.
Oh, so simple, you know.
Right.
And no Devin Lloyd in this game.
Like, you know, when we did the preview show,
we had no clue that Devin Lloyd could miss this game because it was so good last week.
That's a big loss for them.
And we're now looking at a Thursday night football game.
Chuck.
Oh, boy.
Brown Steelers.
We've had a lot of those TNFs.
Yep.
And they try.
It's the Browns only time and prime time in a couple weeks ago.
I'm thinking, why would you have the Browns in prime time?
But you know what this is?
It's a battle for the first place.
at AFC North.
And you know who believed in the Browns?
Not Nick Shook.
Correct.
But our friend Kevin Patra
is actually the subject
of the Brown's social media post
who notes that Kevin Patra
is a dog and everyone else.
Just the sad little kitties
that pick the panda.
I would like to thank the Brown social team.
Brandon, I know you're out there.
I don't know if you're listening
for avoiding mentioning me by name.
I get enough criticism.
My worst fear.
Yes, from Browns fans
that weekly.
basis. They are personal near and dear to me.
So thank you for leaving me out of this.
Good job by the Browns.
Another team that
wasn't expecting to be entertaining
early in the year and they've been better than
expected. Deshawn Watson, you know, holds
off the booze.
At least for now. Let's go
to Jacksonville where there
was Nariaboo in sight
because the one beat
down in the early window was
the Patriots getting it put
on. Third down and four from the 16
yard line. Jacks have been very good on third down seven out of ten today in the ball game.
Trevor rolls to the left. This is a straight quarterback run.
I don't like that. He's shoulder still on his feet inside the five and he took a knee at the one
yard line. He did not run it in. Trevor Lawrence going to run it into the end zone, but he took a knee at
the one yard line to keep the clock running. How about that? Well, I don't like that.
I don't like that. Frank. I love it. That was Jeff Lagerman.
talking to his buddy Frank Frangy on WJXL.
What if as you were talking, I just kept going, I don't like that.
Greg, I don't like that.
I think it would make a lot of sense.
I love it.
This was not something to love, by the way.
No matter what, it was stupid.
Trevor Lawrence admitted after the game it was stupid.
Yeah, he does score.
Galaxy Brain did it.
There's eight and a half minutes left in the game.
Just score.
No one told him to do that.
It was almost as if he didn't know how much time was left in the game.
He made a joke he was trying to help.
about Bachel Tutans, you know, fantasy numbers,
because Tutton ended up cashing in on the very next play with a touchdown.
It's not like they save much time.
But the Jaguars were destroying the Patriots so laughably at this point
that Trevor Lawrence could just kneel at the one-yard line.
They go on to win 35 to 6.
The biggest story in this game is how bad Drake May was
and where the Patriots offense is, but I do hate leading.
with negative because I think it's right when fans complain that you don't give them their props.
And before we get to the May of it all, I do want to point out, like, the Jaguars dominated every
facet of this game. Their pass rush was better. Their run game was better. Their past protection was
better. There was not one aspect of this game that I think the Patriots played well. Their discipline
was poor. Like Mike Brable talks about not beating yourselves. They had a ton of penalties. The Jaguars were
totally clean on both sides of the ball. And especially in terms of creating pressure on Drake
May without blitzing while stopping the Patriots while they were blitzing really showed up.
And I thought Trevor Lawrence, just a nice, mature game that we talked about Mahomes and the
chiefs. I think the Jaguars are at that point where, yeah, like if the other team wants to
implode, the Jaguars are just going to run away from you. They're that type of team now at 2 and 1.
this is a team that could have had another letdown this week after the way that things went in Denver last week.
They could have let that snowball and they did the exact opposite and they did it in a complete fashion.
All these different Patriots drives that end up in Jacksonville territory that don't produce points.
That's a team that bend up, don't break, bow up, get the stops, get the takeaways that they need.
And you have a quarterback who's very capable and comfortable in this offense of running, doing exactly what Liam Cohen wants to do.
To the point, like we just showed that he ends up taking a knee on a quarterback run.
I know.
When Lagerman said, I don't like that.
I thought he was talking about Trevor Lawrence lowering his shoulder.
He was.
That was his first.
And then he didn't like the, the Neil either.
He didn't like multiple things.
And then he loved it.
But Trevor Lawrence, first of all, we have quarterback island coming up.
And we are going to have to have a serious conversation, not just about Trevor Lawrence for the positive.
Because I think he's played great to start this season.
Are you going to do it?
We're going to have a serious conversation.
I don't think it's going to be that long.
I mean, Big May has been one of the worst quarterback.
I don't know.
It feels like you've kind of been putting it off through this entire segment.
so far.
No.
I mean,
this is what I
wanted to do
was you give the
Jaguars their credit.
It's going to sneak
it in there.
Five for five in the
red zone and
Lawrence was six of eight
against pressure.
They were really good
on like big snaps.
Yeah.
I just wanted to point out
like how excellent
they were because
on a play-to-play
basis, these two teams
didn't look that different.
Like the Patriots
went into the Jaguars
territory seven times
and didn't score a touchdown,
which has almost never happened.
But Drake May
as bad as the end of
week one was.
this was like a full game of that.
It was one of, if not his worst performances, I would say, as a pro.
It's a new low.
His first fumble, he just drops the ball.
I don't know if, like, it's slippery or it was indecision,
but the interception that he had to Travis Hunter was absolutely brutal.
And I just knew that the Patriots radio call,
and I haven't heard this yet,
but I just know that the Patriots radio call of this throw by May is going to be painful.
Ramobre is the single back.
A bunch to the right tight, million split tight left.
May rolls out to the right.
Dre looks toward the end zone.
Throws into the back end zone.
He threw it fading away to the right, throw it toward the end line,
and right to Travis Hunter.
Touchback, Jacksonville.
Is there a chance you might see the Vito at some point?
Two or three games.
He said the Cardinal Sid.
You can't do in the red area.
Turn them all over the end zone.
Oh, my God.
Scott Zolak, you're off the island.
You're off an ounceer island.
Give me a break.
Everyone's selling their Drake May stock.
I'm not sure when it's going to turn around.
I will buy all of it.
I will buy all of it.
Now, it might not turn around until next season or until midseason.
Right now, he is playing with so little confidence.
And the way, the reason Zolak said that was before that interception,
he's missing layups.
He is not making quick decisions.
There's a random great play in there.
I mean, he ends up with 200 yards and 25 attempts,
but it's so like not confident right now.
You can see how in his head he is.
I mean, it's even when he speaks post game,
which I think we have the audio of,
he's so in his head.
I think it's disappointing.
You know, I think the ball starts rolling like that.
We can't get out our own way and, you know, can't get out of my own way personally.
So we got to, you know, I got to look myself in the mirror and look and take this as a turning point.
You know, it's, you know, week three, at the same time, we got to, you have some fuel and realize that what we're doing out there offensively is, you know, it's unacceptable.
It's been unacceptable for three weeks.
This is not to, like, demean him in any way, but he does sound like he's almost on the verge of tears.
Like, that's how frustrated he is with how things are going right.
He is playing like a guy who is feeling all the pressure.
Yeah.
And then whenever something good happens,
like Matt Collins makes a big play
and then gets a 15-yard taunting penalty
to make it fourth and 16 instead of fourth and one.
Kyle Williams is going to score a long touchdown for Drake May.
He steps out at the 12-yard line.
Kyle doesn't like make the greatest like route fighting back for the ball
on another one of Drake May's interceptions.
But none of that is to excuse a quarterback who you can hear it there is totally lost.
And it's a full.
offensive meltdown. Right now, they have 30 points in 29 possessions. The only offense,
I believe in the Super Bowl era, that is worse on a points per drive basis in the first three
games of the season are the Zach Wilson Jets. Oh. Oh. From five years ago. I mean, you can even see it
in simple numbers like his average time to throw today. If you just didn't have it in front of you,
what would you guess it would be? It's bad. 3.2? 3.4. Yeah. That's just,
That's somebody who just doesn't, he's hesitant, doesn't know where to go.
He's holding the ball forever.
To me, too, you look at the splits of what coverages he's seeing.
Teams are mixing up Man and Zone against him.
You can tell by volume, they're trying to build these layups in for him underneath those zones.
But I think teams are playing cloudier.
And also the pressure that he's seeing, he's not handling it very well.
But he is almost second-guessing every single thing he's seeing.
So is Romeo Dobbs, who's been a borderline fiasco and had a couple more negative plays in this game.
It is all bad right now for the Patriots.
Offense.
Defense, not too much better in this one.
You know where we saw some good offensive play, some good quarterback play?
How about in Detroit?
Let's go there.
So here come the Lions now.
Second down and four from the 17 of the Jets.
Golf takes, tosses to Gibbs, running right, finds a lot of traffic.
Comes back left.
There he goes.
15, Gibbs, Gids, 10, outside, five.
Gibbs, end zone.
Touchdown, Detroit Lions.
Oh, baby, what a run.
Jamir Gibbs.
17 yards went right nothing happening came all the way back to the left side might have even gotten a bit from his quarterback
Jared Gibbs alert Jared golf along the way and he gets in for the score that's a thing of beauty right there not many players in the league can make that
I don't think there's any player in the league that can do that in fact the only person that comes to mind who is going to make that play is Barry freaking Sanders oh yeah
who was there in the audience who wore that uniform well the lions gets a two and
one beating the Jets 31 to 24 in an offensive shootout back and forth and back at forth.
They go.
They get the final touchdown.
That was Dan Miller on WX, Y, and T.
It is the Jemir Gibbs show each and every week.
Yeah, that was exactly what I was going to say, Greg.
This was the Jemir Gibbs game.
He was totally unguarable.
He had three touchdowns and 165 scrimmage yards.
The Jets did not have any answers for him.
Drew Petzing did a phenomenal job of getting him into the game.
into space in the passing game.
This was an all 11 effort or 10 other players effort,
including Jared Goff throwing a little stiff arm out there,
the lead blocker, you know,
to get him into space and to maximize what he could do,
just like you saw and heard his control over his body,
the change of direction, the speed, explosive play potential
was all there.
And you want to credit to the Jets who made it a legitimate game.
It's 24, 24 late after a good challenge by Aaron Glenn
that reversed a no touchdown call on the field
and ultimately ruled a Garrett Wilson touchdown
and then a laser by your guy,
Gino Smith, for the two-point conversion
to Sterling Shepard. But it's a huge gain by Isaac
Tesla that flips the field and then who else
at the end of the game, but a wide open
Jemir Gibbs in the flat to ice this game,
ultimately the game winner.
Goff's going to work out of the gun. He's got Gibbs to his right.
There's the snap. Gough back. Loss it to Gibbs, right side.
Gibbs wide open, five, end zone.
Touchdown Detroit Lions.
A little heel click.
Jamir Gibbs over the right side.
Jared Gough found him.
There was nobody between him in the end zone,
and you're not going to catch up to him.
Good job there by Kingsley and Agbari for the Jets who had no chance to make that play,
but was so disgusted by Jemir Gibbs,
clicking his heels over the goal line that he gave him a good shove
and didn't let him enjoy it as much on the ground.
Yeah, and even then still, that Gino and the Jets,
they really had a legitimate chance to drive to tie and or win the game,
depending on whether or not they could have converted at the end.
And Kelvin Shepard, the Detroit Lions defensive coordinator who has had,
has taken a beating the last couple of weeks for his team giving up all of the yards
and points that they have.
He calls the exact right blitz at the exact right time against his former mentor's team,
Aaron Glenn's team, Chuck Clark sacks, Gino, forces the fumble.
Jack Campbell recovers its game over in Detroit.
This is the recipe for them.
like Gino goes over 300 yards, only has six in completions, and throws three touchdowns.
In no way can they be satisfied by their defensive effort, the lions that is.
And yet they just need to make enough plays to win shootouts.
And hope Brian Branch comes back and figures out things during the season.
And I love that, like, Gino's just throwing it up for Garrett Wilson.
Yeah.
It looks like one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
That's why I still have a lot of confidence in the Jets at 1 and 2, because this was a game that, I mean, last
week they should have won. This week they had a chance to, they fought their way back into this game.
This fourth quarter, by the way, it was insane. It starts with Gibbs touchdown run to make it 24 to 10.
Then you have two jets touchdowns, including a successful two-point try on the second time around,
and then that Gibbs touchdown. Like, there's a ton of scoring in this final fourth quarter, which
kind of falls in line with what the Lions defense has been like so far. But when it comes to the Jets,
the fact that they're still fighting in this game and that they can produce these types of points,
and that Garrett Wilson and Gino Smith have such a good connection, and that Gino was able to find
Kenny and Sadiq for a touchdown earlier in this game.
I still believe in this group.
I just need them to finish.
Okay, I am ready.
We make tiny table predictions on the show.
Jordan said Kenyon Sneak was going to get two touchdowns.
He goes over 100 yards and gets a touchdown.
That's worth at least half a point in whatever point system we're giving you.
Great job.
Great job on Kenyon Sadie.
Thank you so much.
And Jeremy Rucker got a touchdown.
So that sort of happened.
Jeremy Rucker got Kenyon Sadieck's second touchdown.
So for me, this actually, I love,
what the Jets are doing for the most part. I think that they look like a very creditable team.
And I appreciate, too, that Aaron Glenn's decision making is improving in terms of the
situational stuff. Like I mentioned, that was a good challenge that he had to make sure that
Garrett Wilson touchdown counted. To me, what I am getting kind of annoyed at is I need to understand
why the Jets are not maximizing their 12 personnel the way that they could. And I understand
game flow and the looks that you get and all of these things. And I'll have to go back and watch
probably the last two weeks to really to really dig deep and because none of them can block.
It's a it's on the personnel. You know, Mason Taylor's hurt and Sadee can kind of block, but
Rucker Jolani Woods, those aren't those dudes. But they're in 11 personnel so much. You're not
asking your receivers to block either. So to me, it's like the way that they get better at some of the
chips and some of the things they have to do is to play more football because their success rate when
there in at least 12 personnel was at 58% today with the two touchdowns.
And their yards per play was the highest that it was by far for this game.
And so I understand mixing it up a little bit.
When in the third quarter, though, that was what actually kickstarted Gino and this team
and this offense was to activate the tight ends through those 12 personnel packages and actually
start really moving the ball.
You felt the jets.
You felt them coming after the lions in those moments.
after that in that third quarter drive
where they are getting the tight ends more activated
with Garrett Wilson sprinkled in there too.
So the lions get to two and one.
I feel like the lions are lucky to be two and one.
And this is another game that they managed.
They were lucky to win that Saints game.
This is back and forth.
They are figuring things out,
but their offense deserves a lot of credit.
They are a team.
And Lions fans, I know you're going to have some complaints
and everything, but you're now an organization
that figures out how to win games
when you're not totally at your best,
which is a huge step forward.
And you can change and get better.
as the season gets along.
The Jets, I feel like, have been a little better
than their 1-and-2 record would indicate.
Reese Hall left with the thigh injury.
Keep an eye on that one.
Okay, that's a big one.
You've heard the chaos.

Let's go to two teams that entered Sunday without a victory.
And yeah, it's a tough scene here for our Super Bowl pick.
Oh, God.
21 seconds.
The Colts are looking to retake the lead here in the fourth quarter in a pivotal week three matchup.
Schrader's got it lined up
Snap, placement,
tickets on its way,
has plenty of leg,
it's up,
it is,
God!
Spencer,
Mother, bleeping Schrader
made me spit across the table.
Thank you.
I was in the splash zone.
It's been one of the best kickers in the league.
He was great in the preseason.
I love that Matt Taylor and WFNI
gave that.
call the excitement it deserved because there was still some time left. The Texans couldn't do
anything with it. Ultimately, I thought they might have Kaimi Fairbairn try a 65-yarder, but apparently
he just doesn't have that sort of leg. Really? I don't know. So they tried for a Hail Mary after
C.J. Stroud got relatively close. The Colts get their first victory of the season, 19 to 17.
The Texans are winless. And one happy person as a little bit of a non-sequitur is our friend,
Henry Hotson because next week's London game could have had two winless team, Colts commanders.
Instead, they pulled off two upsets and the Colts.
One of those teams is going to be two and two after next week.
Their season could change here.
And I think it's a well-earned victory by the Colts who dominated much of this game.
Yeah, much of this game.
The score didn't really reflect it because they didn't quite finish these drives.
Spencer Trader finished the drives with field goals.
But it was a team that I think was very complete in the passing game.
Daniel Jones looking very strong.
and working with a stable of receivers
that most would complain about, most would
struggle with. It was the Josh
Downs show early in this game. He had 11
targets. He only caught five of them, but for 77 yards.
Keenan Allen got involved. After we thought
Keenan Allen might be on his way out, he catches a touchdown pass
as well. Tyler Warren had one bad drop,
but otherwise was a strong
contributor as well. So that was like, okay,
not a good day for Jonathan Taylor,
who at one point took a toss left and fumbled and then
picked it up in the middle of running after the
football and continued running for a small gain.
They didn't have balance,
but they did well enough off in the passing game.
And then defensively, they shut down this, this Texan's offense.
This Texan's offense had no life for most of this game.
And it wasn't until basically they get one stop off of a turnover forced by the Texans defense.
And they go down the field in seven plays, 54 yards, two and a half, about three minutes to score and take the lead.
And you're thinking they're going to pull this one out.
Right.
And they didn't.
I thought, because I checked this game with about eight, 10 minutes to go.
and the Texans at that point didn't even have the ball.
And they were getting almost tripled in total yardage.
It was incredibly one-sided, like 250 to 80.
And then they get a long field goal drive.
As you mentioned, they forced the turnover with a sack fumble,
and they get a touchdown drive off of that.
And it feels like, wow, they could save their season right here
with 10 points in the fourth quarter
and steal a game that they couldn't get.
And they give up a field goal to the Colts.
And I know it's putting too much on the defense.
But if they want to be special, like, they just need to get one stop.
And they win the game.
And Schrader has to kick a long field goal.
They give up a long, you know, yard situation.
But ultimately, like, Indianapolis does get 300 yards in this game.
They haven't been a shutdown defense.
No.
So while the offense wears most of this, they got stuffed on fourth and short,
the passing game was dreadful.
Most of the game, the running game was even worse.
Like, the defense hasn't been good enough either in big moments.
Yeah.
And I think Texans, you know, I spoke.
that formula earlier that was familiar to Browns fans
which is like ride the defense and hope the offense can do enough.
They're not even getting that much from the offense
in these last two games. There's
cause for legitimate concern because this is a Colts
defense that statistically was bad in a number of
different categories. And you're only able to muster
17 points and until the final two minutes
of the fourth quarter, 10 points against
this team. That's a major red
flag for this offense which just lacks a lot
of life. Now I know that Texans Colts games
get weird. We know that. It's a
division rivalry. Things get weird. This
wasn't weird. It was just ugly.
on the Texans part. They have a lot to figure out
on that side. You didn't want us to get to this game too early
because you were ashamed as
someone who was assigned to it to cover it, which
I think is a little harsh. Well, I mean,
I would hate to have to track the
downfall of your Super Bowl. Oh my God.
It's embarrassing for us. So the thing, the first
couple of weeks, I think you could find
real faults with the Texan's defense
and significant issues
and breaks at the worst time and
not enough pressure and week one, et cetera, et cetera,
et cetera. This,
to me, as the dust has settled,
a little bit off of that kind of start.
And yes, not showing up in key moments.
That's this defense.
If it wants to be great, historic, the way that they talked about it before the season,
talked about it to me in a very poorly aging story that I wrote for the athletic.
You know, they wanted all of this for themselves.
And to me, okay, you're still, you're at the end of the day,
you're holding a team under 20 points.
You have to be able to trust an offense that you just paraded around the entire
off season talking about.
this offensive line is going to be better because we've adjusted it again.
Year two of this play caller with this quarterback.
C.J. Stroud, for the most part, has been fine.
Yes, there are injuries in the receiving cord.
Those are significant.
The run game is not working.
They're not getting pushed and the run game is not working.
To me, it's like the two things that they knew they needed to fix were the run game
and some of the sustainability with this offense in general.
And those two things are not working
and the defense is not where it hoped it would be.
Right. It's complimentary bad football
because part of the reason they hold them to 19 points
is because the Texan defense can never get off the field.
They give up a 13 play drive, a 12 play drive,
a 9 play drive, and a 15 play drive
that goes into the fourth quarter.
And so many of those are ending in a couple of those
are ending in field goals, you know, some in touchdown,
but like it's just all bad.
I don't think the season's over. They started 0 and 3.
They've got the league right where they want to.
This feels worse.
than a year ago and talking about predictions that are aging well.
It is shaping up to be the worst Super Bowl prediction I have ever made.
But I'm not giving up because when they turn it all around, we can't claim credit.
It's really my fault.
I'm dragging you down.
No, no, it's all bad.
You know what else is bad?
The Giants and the Titans game.
It's not a good football game.
24 seconds to go on the game.
Science by five.
Ward takes the snap.
Back to throw.
Pumps.
He's under pressure.
He's going to escape to his left.
Now, lobs it in the end zone intercepted by Javan Holland.
Javan Holland saves the day.
The Hulk.
His third interception, as Ward was flushed out in the pocket,
the Giants have dropped two interceptions today,
but Javon Holland comes through with a clutch.
Javon Holland with a great interception,
leaping in the rain and an even better celebration.
Great moment.
The Giants get to two and one.
They win 12 to 7 in a game where they don't get a touchdown.
Gross.
Where I think James Winston hurt his job security,
even though that they won.
But man, that was a disappointing ending.
It was just so fitting.
The Titans' offense was bad,
and Cam Ward was bad in so many different ways.
They had three and outs on five of their first six drives.
just run, run pass.
The runs are terrible.
Hide the quarterback.
Just hide the quarterback is absolutely right.
And then in the second half,
they actually moved the ball quite well
on three straight long drives to end the games.
But two of those long drives ended in total disaster.
One where they don't get the third and long
and Cam Ward and his receiver
start walking off the field dejectedly.
because they failed in the red zone again.
But then the coaches are like,
no, no, go back out there.
Go forward on fourth down.
Instead, they barely get the fourth down snap off
instead of taking a time out.
And he just basically throws the ball away
on fourth and goal.
That's when they're down 12-0.
They get a touchdown.
But in one of the,
I think it was on the touchdown drive,
maybe it wasn't.
He had one of the biggest groaners
of a dropped interception
on one of the worst decisions
when they were about to go score anyway.
So, like, he had that interception,
but I'm glad they mentioned it on the call.
He had two more total groaners
that the Giants could have had.
And ultimately, if we're talking ethical football,
it would have been...
It was hard to see either one of these teams to win,
but, man, the Titans' offense
did not feel like they deserve to win a football game.
I give them a little bit of a break.
And I give the Giants a little bit of a break.
And it's only because this game,
like last week's game in MetLife Stadium,
was played amid a torrential downpour.
Okay.
And it really ruins.
It wasn't as crazy as the Jets game,
which I feel like I gave more of a pass.
Yeah, but you're right.
But it's just,
it hurts the product in these scenarios.
And it also hurts a quarterback like Cam Ward,
who shout to our senior editor,
Jeremy Bergman up in the second floor of this building.
We're sitting there watching the,
and I know he's watching Titans giants.
And I just keep hearing repeatedly,
Cam, what are you doing?
Oh, come on.
And then the groaner of the interception
that ends the game,
just captured the entire experience.
So congrats to the Giants for winning this game.
Like you just described,
probably not one of those wins are going to be proud of,
but they all count the same.
Right, they do.
And Ward also had like a wide open receiver on another,
I think it was the second,
the third down before another failed red zone.
Like I said, like the last, you know,
three, four drives of the game,
like the Titans off and suddenly woke up.
You saw Carnal Tate show up for the first time all season.
He ends up with six catches, 58 yards.
Wondale is like celebrating.
they have all these terrible shots of Brian Dable.
Oh, yes, the Brian Dable sort of revenge game, kind of.
No, I mean, it was the Giants fan revenge, getting to see Dable so frustrated.
Giants fans probably loved it, it poured on the guy.
Yeah, he was up in the booth, but the booth shot was the greatest revenge that they could have.
Wasn't like a flattering angle, and also he just was getting very angry all game long.
The whole, this is the staff to help this.
offense and Cammore to take the next step has not materialized.
I'm bummed because I thought in the second half a couple of times and last week they had,
first of all, he had some definite moments.
He made a couple of great throws.
Yeah.
Used his legs more last week.
This just is unfortunate.
It is.
And the Giants, I don't know what they take out of this game.
Brian Burns did wind up playing and was a situational pass rusher,
but did not make much of an impact.
They thought Arvel Reese had a good game.
Kim Scadaboo ends up with their most reception yards on the game.
40 and was a battering ram.
They actually got good juice out of Najee Harris.
He kind of woke the offense up in this game at one point.
They never finished their drives.
I thought James Winston in some ways looked more concerning than a week ago because even
though he wasn't as inaccurate, he just was holding the ball and not sure what he was
seeing.
That's what he does.
Yeah.
But it was it was not encouraging.
And so there were some pregame reports that they might call Jimmy Garapolo that they might
make a trade.
They are two and one.
and their schedule's pretty easy.
Their backup right now is Jake Hainer.
They are going to add someone else to this mix.
We will see who it is,
but buys them a week,
buys them another win,
and they can try to figure things out
and improve as they go.
They get to two and one.
Let's talk about two teams
with much higher aspirations on the season.
Let's go to Sunday night football in Denver.
Stafford by himself.
Broncos bring five.
Stafford gives ground.
throws a ball that is intercepted
intercepted by
Tala Noah
Bufunga and it's over
Hufunga to the rescue
he gets two
his first two as a Bronco
It was
The Bongo's!
The Tala Noah
Hufunga game, two interceptions
in the second half
as the Denver Broncos put up
30
beating the Rams
30 to 26. 30 after
halftime. Trailed 16-0.
At the break, Matthew
Stafford, who was game
for a comeback
until that final play. Not sure
what was going on there.
Devante Adams didn't really look.
It was doomed from the start,
and frankly, this second
half was doomed
for the Los Angeles Rams after
playing so well in the first half,
give up a couple touchdowns in the
third quarter. They're driving
with the lead in the fourth quarter,
and that's when Hufunga initially
turns this game around.
Stafford stands back there by himself.
Five-man pressure, Stafford, quick-troll.
Ball intercepted.
Talanua Hufunga, Hufunga, down the west sideline.
Hufunga cuts up inside.
Inside the 30, 20, 15, 10, 5.
Touchdown!
Tala Lua, Hufunga as a Bronco.
That's Dave Logan.
on K-O-A. What an innocent time it was when it was 19 to 16 with under five minutes to go.
Finishes at 30 to 26 and the Broncos get to 2-1.
Rams fall to 1-2. Hufanga Giveth, gave up a big gain earlier on that drive.
And then he taketh away with that big interception, a missed opportunity for the Rams,
some bad calls by the refs on the Broncos' last touchdown drive.
So much went wrong for them.
Where do you want to start, Jordan?
with like some multiplicities which we're just going to juggle a lot of things at once here on this here show the Rams were up 16 and 0 at halftime and in the third quarter ended with zero net yards because of lost yards they had taken and then a bad sack from Matthew Stafford that nullified the rest that nullified the rest of the punchy Eric back here it's a late night of the yards that they had gone
That was a Hufanga sack on a deep blitz where they showed Zach Allen wide on the edge to sort of change the blocking configuration.
The Broncos defense really brought it in the second half.
The Rams offense totally imploded.
Pressure starts getting to Matthew Stafford.
He finishes the game six of 20 for like 81 yards and an interception off of pressure.
And it absolutely inverted the game.
terrible, terrible pass interference call at the end, yes,
but does not neutralize the fact that the Rams gave up a 16-0 lead.
Yes, and look, the Broncos also moved the ball down to get into that position.
They end up finally getting it over the line after an excruciating sequence.
It's Bo Nix with the Drew Breeze trademark jump over the line of scrimmage at the goal line
to get ahead with 47 seconds to go.
Stafford had responded to that pick six in very typical Stafford fashion with three
passes including a deep shot for 48 yards on a blitz by Vance Joseph.
The blitz, you know, Nate Tice called an emotional blitz where he leaves Riley Moss out
there. He gets beat on a double move and Mumfield goes for 48 yards for them to take the lead.
So it's exciting. It's back and forth. And I have yet to see Shook Bo Nix play a normal game.
Like this is, like people think this is a weird game.
Oh, they were shut out in the first half and then they go crazy in the second half.
It's like, no, this is just kind of what the Broncos do.
And he made a number of really great throws in the second half as discombobulated as he looked in the first half.
I don't want to sound like the biggest hater in the world because I know Broncos fans think I hate them.
And I, this is not why.
But I think that in review of this game that was won by the Broncos tonight, Broncos fans can look and say,
you know, we didn't play our best football for four quarters.
You know, like they had us in the first half, not going to lie.
And then Bo Nix and the Broncos wake up again.
A lot of this second half followed a script that was pretty similar to the Jaguars game,
the week prior.
All that was missing was the Riley Moss interception until Tala Noah who Funga picks off
Matthew Stafford takes it back to the house.
They frustrate me the Broncos do because they cannot play a complete game.
And they really frustrate me because they look so much better when they come
alive in the second half. But all credit to them, they're the ones who ever came to 16 point
deficit and won this football game. They deserve it. And they did it without a running game.
I felt like, you know, it's Nick's having to lift up his running game. Whereas on the other side,
I feel like Stafford in the passing game was kind of letting down after, you know, the early drives,
their running game, because their drives, they kept settling for field goals in the first half
because of negative plays. It was a lot of sacks. It was a holding call on a running play,
but it was also other penalties where they ended up in long yardages and they're settling for
field goals and then the Broncos made them pay.
Yeah, they were only up 16 and 0.
I mean, that's a big, that was a big comeback for the Broncos.
Outgain the Broncos in the first half, 273 to 67 net yards.
Jalen Watson leaves the game with a shoulder injury.
Everything changes.
Emmanuel Forbes comes in.
The Broncos score on back-to-back touchdown possessions.
Emmanuel Forbes commits a special teams penalty that sets the Broncos up in great field
position on one of those penalties.
it just, you could, it was an implosion.
You just, it was like the most clear inversion
of what had happened in that first half,
for half over half,
it was like watching two different football games.
Our dear friend, Patrick Leavon,
insist that momentum does not exist.
This was a great example of a game.
Data. We have data now.
Definitely exists.
I mean, until it didn't,
when he hits Mumfield three straight times
and they intercepted the ball
that would end the game,
but the momentum made the referees,
the bad call because then we would be having a completely different conversation.
That's not what I'm saying at all.
I'm just saying teams are streaky.
I'm more on Patrick's side of this.
And both teams responded.
And Stafford did a great job even getting them in position to get inside the 20 for that last
play.
But it was it was not to be.
And ultimately, look, the the pass rushes kind of took turns for the two different
teams.
But Nick Benito had a big sack in this game.
They made a couple more difference.
making sacks. They're still waiting to get a little more out of Aaron Donald. Kobe Turner did make a
big play in the fourth quarter where he hits Bo Nix's arm and that turns into an interception.
I just think these were two really good teams that are going to have a chance to go deep in the
playoffs that are still figuring out who they are at this point in the season. And you know,
one of them's got to lose. But one of them doesn't have Pukunakua playing. And after Sean McVeigh
said he's going to return next week.
Literally said that.
We hear from one of the insiders.
Well, you know, hopefully he returns,
but surgery is possible,
but they're trying to avoid it.
I'm kind of noticing what's happening
between McVeigh and some of the reporting
and Puka not playing in two straight games
after finishing week one.
That's something happening.
Miles Garrett's not going to be back for six weeks or so.
And in the Broncos, meanwhile,
I think are just kind of figuring out their offense
and Vance Joseph ultimately, like making enough good cause.
Just a good game.
Sometimes it's a good game between two good teams.
someone's got to win. Neither of these teams are in their final form.
That's the beauty of it being week three is that they're nowhere near their final form for better or for worse.
But I really would like it if Pat Bryant hadn't drawn that DPI.
Okay, okay. That's fair.
That was OPA.
No, you're absolutely right that you don't like a game being ruined by.
Chuck and I were talking about this before you came in.
Greg, it was just like, you know, multiple things being true really hate that a game can be swung that way so significantly with a call like that.
That also looked, and I'd have to go back and watch,
but looked like Josh Wallace had come down with the interception.
At the same time, a call wouldn't be swinging a game like that
if you hadn't let the team come back in.
Which is the same argument that Sean McVeigh and the Rams were telling,
trying to tell Saints fans after a much more blatant past interference call.
John Payton on the other sideline in that one still.
Meanwhile, Saints fans are like, this does not make us feel any better
that Sean Payton gets the benefit here.
Look, they're not in that.
their full form, we're getting closer.
This was a great week three recap.
A incredible week three.
Thank you to the NFL gods for delivering a bunch of incredible games, including the one
in Rio.
And we actually had some boots on the ground.
A friend of the show, Ali Hunter, who works for Talksport.
I've worked with them in the past with Will Gavin.
Was there covering the game?
And he sent a report.
When we have boots on the ground in Rio, we might as well listen.
Hola.
And be invulento to the Maricana, Greg, and the gang.
wow what a game we had here at the home of Brazilian football
Re-Degenero really did not disappoint it was sensational the crowd was
incredible it definitely was a Cowboys crowd I would say 60 to 40 but they were
loud those Ravens fans right at the end loads of different jerseys all over
the place as well it was just loud it was such a great atmosphere and we get to do
it all over again next
next year as well. Hopefully you can come down. And look, Greg, I'll put you up on my sofa.
You're about the right leg for it.
Oh, oh. Hey, look, man, somebody who spent a lot of the last month sleeping on my own couch.
Oh, poor. We've got to get into what's happened since you've moved to Los Angeles.
Not happy with your former landlord. Former landlord. Great job there by Ali. We appreciate
just the crowd pop and the dig. So many great Ollie's in our universe. And yeah,
He's now a Brazil resident.
So he covered that game and they will be back in Rio.
That was a success.
Despite the field not being incredible, the crowd delivered.
Week three has delivered.
So Monday Night Football has a lot to live up to.
We will see if it's Case Keenham, probably.
Might be Tyson Bayesian who's active for the game.
We will be covering this game live on YouTube, Jordan.
So everyone, check us out just a few minutes.
Right after that game, that'll be Bears and Eagles.
week three was a lot of fun.
We appreciate everyone who's been checking us out.
And what did he say, bien menitos?
Nailed it.
This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed human.
