This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Welcome to NFL Daily, where it's our favorite day of the week.
Patrick Claibond Day.
Thanks, Greg.
I'm Greg Rosenthal.
I'm in the Chris Wesleyan podcast studio next to a well-dressed man
because he is hosting the insiders on NFL Network later today.
But this isn't the warm-a-back.
This is your main show.
No, this is it.
This is what I got up for.
This is why the lights came on up here,
barely.
You know, it's a little dim in between two of these ears, but that's why.
That's why.
Everyone check out, Patrick.
Good show.
Insiders.
He's got all,
all the insiders.
Yeah.
The show is the inside.
Ian Rappaport,
Judy.
But yeah,
you can catch your boy,
Patrick,
every day these days on the,
on the insiders.
It's the other property that I have featured on that's named after the,
the people that actually matter.
Stop.
It's a newsy day.
We are going to recap.
What's been going on?
Look, at a couple weeks, we're going to be missing these days where teams are still practicing.
Is this going to be dead?
I'm going to go on vacation.
I'm going to go to Japan.
You should.
We got about 17 teams practicing.
For most of them, it's their last practices of the entire off season.
And so we're going to fire through a bunch of news.
And then we're going to wrap up the show with a brief segment, just some players we're buying stocking.
Just some players that we've been eyeing that we are buying proverbial stock, not literal stock.
I don't know what your thoughts are on the actual stock market.
Yeah, I think there's a lot of people rightfully concerned with prediction markets.
And I would like to point to the prediction market that somehow dictates who gets to eat and live in planet.
So yeah, those are my thoughts.
Yeah, people are big mad because the prediction markets got Spencer Pratt wrong here in L.A.
Well, you should have known what was coming.
Most people are mad about everything, by the way.
Let's talk about Aaron Donald, one of my favorite players,
watch over my time here at NFL Network, and we may get to do it even more. I know Adam Schaefter
was only on the Pat McAfee's show, kind of spinning a yarn, not exactly Capital R reporting
something. But when he gets on the ESPN airwaves, one of your colleagues now at ESPN, Patrick,
and he concludes his summary of what's going on with Aaron Donald by saying he believes it's more
than likely that Aaron Donald comes back. My ears perk up. Now, his reasoning for that was
essentially no one saying no, which I've been noticing too. And I wasn't bold enough to say,
to connect the dots like he did. I'm sure he knows even more. And he says, look, I don't have
anyone who's telling me that this is going to happen. But if they're not saying at this point
that he's not coming back, I think when they present a particular plan to him, if it's a plan that
he would be amenable to.
Now I assume that includes the finances of the plan,
perhaps when he comes back
and how much he needs to do to get ready to get back.
That's all factors.
He believes, from what he knows,
that Aaron Donald will ultimately be putting
on that uniform again, which is pretty crazy.
Yeah, that's exciting.
He's one of the best players
in the history of the national football league.
He ultimately did decide to stop playing football.
And so that is Aaron Donald to me saying,
I don't want to play football anymore.
And, you know, you mentioned the fact that we are underneath the same employment umbrella.
I appreciate the work that everybody provides.
But unless Aaron Donald is saying, I would like to come back and play football, I'm going to take my basis in the reality of this based on his previous statement, which has been true for multiple years now that he's no longer playing football.
I hear that.
But when people have been asking, he said, yeah, I'll think he's essentially been saying I'll think about it.
And when I, when a player.
It's fun for people to flirt with you.
Like, you're at the gym.
Yeah.
Maybe your ring's not on because you want to be practicing safe work and somebody comes up and flirts with you or, you know.
That only had, this is such a Patrick question.
Stop.
This is never happened.
This is never happened to me.
This is never happened.
This is obviously happening to you all the time.
Well, you know, do you wear your ring when you're playing tennis?
I wear my ring.
I never take it off.
Exactly.
And so it's been a, perhaps it's been a long time since a person has been like, oh, that person is single.
I'm very attracted.
And it's fun, right?
If somebody were going to come up and be like, Greg Rosenthal is so attractive.
and you're going to be like, no.
Maybe Aaron Donald doesn't feel like he needs to say no right now.
I hear you.
I had an old boss at NBC who for the first five or six years after I left NBC for NFL
would always kind of be offering me my job back or offering new, no, flirt.
It felt good.
But after a while, then it just went away.
You know, you say no too many times.
No one's coming up to me in the gym, I think, either way, whether I got this on or not.
I'm five, six rounding up.
stop.
I hope.
No, I don't think so.
You got to, yeah, you got to just got to, you got to be confident.
You got to create that connection.
Sorry for being silly.
I know, I appreciate it.
Let's talk about something that's not silly.
Hard, hard curve here.
Rams tackle, since while we're talking Rams,
Allerick Jackson, was arrested for a felony domestic violence charge,
extremely serious.
It is worth noting.
that Allerick Jackson has previously faced a suspension from the league for an incident back in 2003.
That incident, he was accused of taping a sexual act without consent, and that was why he was suspended.
So I do think that is context for what happened in this case, the specific charges are suspicion of domestic battery.
according to the LAPD.
He's a 27-year-old six-year veteran
who signed a pretty big contract
about a year ago with the Rams.
He's their left tackle.
Obviously, an important person
in their organization,
and we'll be tracking that story.
But I think it's fair to wonder
what his future is going to be.
Another player who unfortunately has had
had some issues, I would say,
with law enforcement over the years of Ligerius Sneed.
Last on the Titans,
he's now going to be rejoining
the member of the Kansas City Chiefs.
the same team that traded him away for a second round pick.
And then he got a big contract from Tennessee.
Did not work out.
Wasn't healthy there.
It wasn't good on the field there.
Now he returns to Kansas City where he played his best ball under Steve Spagnolo.
The master plan comes into play where you've got the half of their secondary starting for the L.A.
Rams.
They get compensation for that.
You wonder what they're going to do at the cornerback position.
They get Mansour Delane.
early on.
And the answer to the other side question is a player that Spaggs knows and has executed
well in the system before.
Look at the Chiefs.
They're right back to doing what the Chiefs do.
It's very not to bring everything back to the Patriots, but I just feel like this would
be something that happened a lot during their dynastic run.
And I do consider the Chiefs still in the middle of a dynastic run until proven otherwise
for multiple straight years.
I expect them to be hosting a playoff game of some sort this year, more than likely.
they would like have guys get paid elsewhere.
It didn't work out for whatever reason.
Then they'd welcome back into the fold
and you get Jamie Collins 2.0 or, you know,
Van Nuoy 2.0 and it worked great the second time around.
Yeah, the parallels, of course,
having one of the five best quarterbacks in the history.
Right.
And having, I think, the parallels here
would be between Spagnolo and Bill Belichick.
Yeah.
Who maximized, I think, players into what they do best
and focus on that.
So now you look at their cornerback situation,
which I thought was,
was quite thin. Noah Williams,
Ligerius, need, you mentioned some of these names, Mansour, Delane,
but also a fourth round pick. A lot of people like
Jaden Kennedy and Cater Coho is at Nickelback,
who I kind of like. Christian Fulton is now kind of a reserve
despite making a lot of money and has had some good snaps.
And suddenly, like, I bet that's going to be
more than good enough secondary.
Let's talk about a player that is stepping away like Aaron Donald did.
While he can still play, Joel Botonio has had some injuries in recent years,
and he announced what a lot of Browns fans thought was coming.
He is retiring from the game.
One of the best guards of his generation,
Joel Botonio, 12 years in the NFL.
Pretty cool that he did it all with the Browns.
He made a couple all-pro teams over the years,
seven Pro Bowls, but two first-team all-pros.
I mean, that is real-deal stuff.
And I believe a second team or two.
So he's going to have a Hall of Fame case at some point when we're talking about possible guards making it to can.
And he had a streak of 102 consecutive starts, which maybe ultimately wasn't that great for him in the long run.
He tried to have arthroscopic knee surgery and then a bi-week and then come back and play.
It ultimately didn't work out.
But if we're talking about people that maybe less need will be on the phone with that have retired, I'm looking at this one.
That's a totally fair guess.
Buttonio, though, the way his statement was to the Browns fans,
I think it really meant a lot to him.
He, of course, had a model in Joe Thomas of what kind of career he had.
And he said, when he entered the league,
Thomas is on that 10,000 snap streak.
And I forget who the other offensive lineman was there,
was on like a six, you know, a five, six thousand snap streak.
And he said the expectation was he literally was not going to miss a snap.
And then he went out and did it.
it. He went over 6,000 something straight snap. So incredible culture that Joe Thomas was part of.
And those offensive lines with Betonio, the Browns teams weren't great always, although they popped up and had some fun offenses.
Among the best offensive lines in the NFL over the last 10 years. So happy trails to Joel Betonio.
A guy who just keeps playing year after year and playing at a high level is Callais Campbell.
let's listen to him talk about his return to Baltimore and what could be ahead.
I always tell myself, you know, and this year I feel like, you know, as strongly as ever,
you know, that this is probably going to be my last year.
I know I said that last year in the year before, but, I mean, I genuinely mean that at the time,
but I always tell myself to play well enough to be able to get a job again if I want to.
So if I perform out there and perform to the level I want to play,
then I probably going to have to turn somebody down next year.
And that's the ideal scenario.
if I can have a chance to play well enough
where they want me again next year
and I got to tell them no.
And then at that time, we'll decide if there's,
you know, if I want to play a good or not.
But as of right now, I'm playing this year
if it's my last year.
Life lessons there.
Yeah.
If the number works for you and you feel okay enough,
go ahead and say, keep saying yes.
And that it's fun, right?
Football compared to some other,
I think just because it's so physical,
at least for some player,
obviously they love the sport
and you have to love the physicality
on some level to get into it.
but I think some of them are just tired of it after a while.
Callais Campbell taking a lot of pounding.
Granted, he's delivering a lot of the pounding,
but he seems to just welcome it.
Maybe when you're 6'4-7 and 325 pounds,
is that somehow easier, but usually it isn't easier.
Yeah, but he also is a great person who facilitates great relationships,
probably with players and coaches.
And so he's never been in a situation where it's like,
you know what, I'd like to not be,
he's picking the people he gets to be around every single year at this point.
So he gets to keep doing that.
So do you take the wedding ring off like before you leave for the gym or you put it in the locker or what's going on for?
It's all made all the time.
Lauren knows this?
What?
That you're doing this?
Yeah, because I showed her a video of like what happens sometimes.
Like bar slippage and people.
I forget the name of what happens.
But go ahead and like Google it because the name is visceral enough and no thanks.
I want to keep this digit.
I want to go in the dirt with 10 of these things.
Okay.
But you've noticed the interest level picks up a little bit.
No, because it's a bright, it's a bright tan.
Like, it's very obvious that there is a ring that lives here.
I didn't start going to the gym in my entire life,
had never, literally never lifted away, which is shocking when.
Yeah, because considering like the physicality,
it was so huge.
Until about three years ago.
So I'm just trying, I'm just trying to catch up here.
No, you're not behind.
Pajon Robinson is in contract talks with the Atlanta Falcons
per Dan Graziano of ESPN.
They asked him about whether he's going to be the next guy to sign,
and he said with a big smile, we'll see.
It was one of those responses,
and I think he wouldn't have maybe mentioned it publicly
if they weren't on the right path.
I'm curious.
I assume he'll be the highest paid running back in the history of the game.
It is interesting to think about how much money
Drake London just got like $100 million guaranteed.
And I know the positions are different.
different, but I do think if there is a player that is going to change the pay scale for an
entire position, that player could be John Robinson. Yeah. And he may be behooved,
depending on what the offer is, to wait and see what Jamir gets. If the lions are willing,
if Brad Holmes and Jamir Gibbs and his camp are willing to do that beforehand,
but if the offer is good, and I think it should be, like in terms of a player's, a position
player's importance to a particular offense, it's Benjamin. Well, that's the thing. His team,
his team, like both GMs that he's had,
I was like, oh yeah, that's the best player in football.
And just in terms of quote-unquote value,
as great as Drake London is,
and Drake London is fairly compensated
as essentially a top five receiver in the NFL,
top five to 10.
Bajon Robinson's more valuable.
How are you going to tell me that you're going to pay Bajon Robinson
like two-thirds of Drake London?
It doesn't make much sense to me.
And that's why I do think he's going to break the scale a little bit
in terms of what running backs have made before,
And that'll be a great thing.
10.4 yards of catch last season.
Outrage.
At running back.
Come on.
So my version, I guess, of getting noticed, you know, at the gym by the ladies, which is never
happened.
Never have.
I have noticed.
I was talking about this with Eric.
I'm wondering if you have a theory.
For whatever reason.
And Shook has experiences, too, going to these Cavs games in the playoffs.
We're getting noticed more in public lately for NFL daily.
At least I am.
And Shook was getting it a lot, too, going to these games.
He says it keeps happening.
And in general, in my time as a podcaster, it's a pretty rare occurrence.
Unless you're overseas, that's a little different.
For whatever reason, the London crew is different.
But if you're just, like, walking around with your kids in Los Angeles,
getting recognized for your podcasting, NFL podcasting,
I would have said that was like a twice a year thing, maybe.
lately last six months or so
it's like a twice a month thing
maybe more I don't know
that's about that what's changed
what's happening I would say all personal data
data is anecdotal
and so probably a lot of things
if we're going to say
but I think it's more meaningful
it's a good sample size
I think right the connections that you build
with people through this podcast
have facilitated a place
where they are more like
to say, oh, hey, Greg.
It's good to see you with your kids.
Whereas some people, if they saw,
you probably get recognized all the time, especially
Shook. Shook is one of the most imposing people
on the play. Well, he is very recognizable.
I look like a lot of people.
And so, like, how comfortable
is somebody saying, oh, hey, Greg.
Okay. Like,
thanks for doing the podcast or whatever people say,
because you're an approachable
guy and they feel comfortable there.
I'm not fine. It's a testament to
you. I know. I appreciate that. And I like it.
Shout out to the Seahawks fan I just saw last week who came up.
It was on the Miles Garrett trade and came up and said he was having a tough day
because that Miles Garrett traded.
He impressed my daughter by saying hi because she was with me.
We were on the way to the grocery store and whatnot.
I don't think it's that.
My theory is actually the NFL channel.
So let me know.
I mean, and if you see me, say hi.
But I don't know.
It's this NFL channel, the Fast Network.
Yeah.
The show does have my name.
And they have these little things on the bottom, the graphics and stuff,
pop up. I'm thinking that's it more because the most I've ever been recognized in my life
was when I was one half of a lot of TikToks and Anthony Jessenick's TikTok. When we were doing
that podcast together, I would get recognized for that. And people would just be like, hey,
they would recognize it. I'm like, yeah, I'm the other guy. I'm the other half of the Anthony
Justin like TikToks that you're watching. And that was it. But those have gone away. I think it's
this. I don't know. I don't know. And it matters. I miss the NFL channel.
I missed the NFL channel.
Well, we'll be back on it.
Oh, you're not going to be on it?
I don't know.
We can get some of the fantasy live.
All these things are questions.
We're definitely going to have, you know, for people that are into the NFL channel, NFL Daily, back on the NFL channel regularly once we get closer to the season.
Let's fly through these news.
I'm just wasting time on a day.
You got to get to work.
No, we're good.
I love it.
Josh Sweat showed up for minicamp.
He had been missing work that wasn't mandatory earlier.
Now he's there.
Now it's mandatory.
Same with Jacoby Percette mentioned that earlier.
Some injuries this week.
Abdul Carter, the great pass rusher for the Giants,
suffered an ankle injury.
They don't believe it to be serious.
Gabe Yacchus, the second round pick is going to be really important,
I think, for the Patriots pass rush,
had a procedure out of minicamp, not being seen.
Mason Graham is in a walking boot, the Brown's defensive tackle.
That's not great.
Kyler Gordon, who, you know, it's an OTA mini-camp injury,
but because it's Kyleor Gordon, who's just always been hurt,
not been seen because he's been hurt at minicamp.
So just some injuries that I found notable.
There's obviously more at minicamp.
Ted McMillan, for instance, has not been doing team drills,
but he's out there.
It doesn't seem that big of the deal.
Let's just get into some of the just mini-camp, like, say, what's happening?
This is, this feels like a mini-camp story.
Okay.
But Nick Underhill, who covers that Saints team about as well as any beat writer out there,
has said that Jalen Polk has looked incredible.
And he said it wouldn't be out of bounds for someone to kind of make the take of like
Jalen Polk at this rate could be their wide receiver three.
Like past Devon Vele, end up having a pretty significant role.
Could we get the Polkassans?
A high second round pick from the Patriots who washed out there.
And I never understood it.
I thought he was a great, great prospect.
And he was as, you know, as unproductive as a high second round pick ever is.
Maybe it's the polka signs.
Yeah.
I don't know if beating out Devon Valer qualifies as a sance.
if we can get that in the Sons rankings.
But if Nick's excited about it, you know,
there's a reason for it.
And I think there is a need for a solid three there.
Potential two, you know.
They were kind of laughing about it.
It was him and Mike Triplett used to be at Aspian
who now works with Nick.
And, but they were just like, it's kind of crazy
how Jalen Polk is just like,
wowing us every day.
We'll see.
This could be one of those O-T stories,
but there's something to watch.
Malik Willis, I've noticed
for whatever reason,
The Dolphins coaching staff and even the reporters covering the team have noticed, like, look, it's been, they've had some difficulties early in the OTA mini-camp season.
They actually had their mandatory minicamp last week.
Jeff Hathley talked about Malik Willis and his development on Tuesday.
They're more comfortable within this game.
They've taken more command of the huddle.
They've taken more command when they're out there with the wide outs.
confidence. I've seen the confidence grow. And, you know, even the conversation I have with Malik
today walking down the hallway, you can just see, you know, he's more comfortable. And he understands
the answers that are being provided for him on each play. And I just, I think he looks as good as he looks
since I've known him. So Malik, well, yeah, they were kind of saying it was taking him a little bit
to pick up this new system. And I wouldn't say they were negat him, but it was kind of clear that
maybe he was having some early struggles. Not a big deal.
in OTA. So that's just nice to hear about
my number one overall free agent of 2020.
Yeah, he's leaving the friendly confines
of the tree. He's stepping out
on his own. And
we'll see how things look. You know,
more concerned about the team around him, honestly, than
Malik Willis. Well, yeah, it is
crazy. But the thing that I think
hasn't been talked about enough with the dolphins is
that Bobby Sloak is their offensive coordinator.
There's a little bit of fiasco, his
last tenure with the Texans.
So we'll see. Vikings.
Giant. I mean, the quarterback
battle has been really taking the nation by storm.
Let's listen to Kyler Murray.
We have both Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy, but we're going to start with
Kyler Murray.
It's a new situation for him because essentially when he arrived in Arizona,
the number one overall pick, he was the guy.
This is different.
Right now, he is in a competition.
I think the toughest part is, again, I was there for seven years.
I know I had two different, you know, offensive systems, but at the same time,
you're getting all those reps.
You know, now having a split reps, it's me already being behind,
not getting the amount of reps that, you know,
you would typically want a guy to get learning an offense.
That's probably the toughest part.
You know, just, again, going back to the past,
being in control of everything,
understanding what we were already doing because I was comfortable within the system.
Now coming into the new system, learning on the fly,
trying to play fast, efficient, and let it loose while learning.
You know, that's the toughest part.
I can think of one way to open up some stats with them.
I actually can think of two ways.
One of them would be trading J.J. McCarthy, who was asked about that possibility
that's been bandied about in the Twin Cities.
Since the end of last season until now, with all the quarterback changes that have already
happened, that you've thought about a trade or thought about the possibility if you wanted
to be traded.
I think I made it very clear I wanted to be here before I got here.
And I love this organization.
I love the coaching staff.
I absolutely love these players to death.
This is where I want to be.
I feel like I can thrive in this system
and, you know, it's just
you know, everything played out exactly how
I wanted it. I wouldn't want anything else to change.
Doesn't want to change anything.
Maybe the outcomes
of some games. It's a tough spot.
That's a tough spot for JJ.
I can tell he's trying to have a good attitude
to make the right faces and say the right things
after he kind of got drugged through the mud
for like an awkward sound bite
about this quarterback competition.
But he wants to,
to be there. He wants to say the right
things, which is, you know,
not really a value add to me. I think
that Carson Wentz of it all is a bigger
factor than people understand.
Because Carson Wentz is there just as
the backup, a trade does
kind of make sense to me. But I don't think the
timing of it would really make sense, probably until the
middle of training camp. Other teams need to see
what they have, what their needs are.
Maybe there's an injury.
Maybe they get to see JJ play
a little bit in the preseason. They're going to
start giving more reps to Kyler Murray, is
what I would anticipate.
My two options would be you trade
JJ McCarthy or you just start giving
the reps to Kyler Murray. Yeah, this isn't
Kyler's first rodeo. I think there was a methodology
behind saying that and highlighting. Look, if we're
doing this, if you're thinking about trading JJ,
why are we doing this dog and pony dance? Let's get ready
for the 2026 season. The Panthers are getting ready
with their mandatory mini camp. I thought it was interesting.
Our colleague, Cam Wolf,
noted that the Panthers have high hopes for Jonathan
Brooks, second round pick, who's really
had a difficult time because of multiple knee injuries over the last couple of years was coming
off in ACL coming into the NFL, then had another one almost right away.
But he believes that Brooks could be the lead back there in Carolina, which would shake up
some fantasy drafts.
And even at minicamp, I noticed he took the first rep in first team drills over Chuba Harvard.
So I think that's maybe kind of telling the young kid, look, you've worked hard, like,
you've worked hard to get back to this point.
hopes, here's your opportunity.
Yeah, and hopefully things do work out.
And it seems like it's better for Chuba when they do split time.
I think it makes the offense work a little better.
And it allows Coach Canales to call, you know, particularly what he likes with these guys involved.
So, yeah.
You're the host of the longest running network fantasy show on TV.
I mean, it's just a fact.
Yeah.
Where are you drafting these two guys?
I would draft Chuba
ahead of Jonathan Brooks.
I think involvement in the past game.
That like ninth round,
eighth round,
sixth round?
Yeah,
Chuba's coming off the board
with starters to me late.
Like he would be RB.
He'd be in the top 25.
Okay.
RBS.
Bullish.
You're buying a little stock in Cuba.
I mean,
I'm not going to say bullish
to have him RB 25,
but like I'd have Brooks significantly lower
maybe in the mid-30s.
Risky.
But I think some fantasy heads
are going to get over their skis with Brooks
and kind of bet on that ceiling.
Kim Skadaboo is a guy.
I have been stunned by how high his average
draft position is.
Like, it blew my mind.
I haven't looked at anything,
but I just saw a tweet about it
that he was getting taken
in like the top 20 over picks.
He is coming off a devastating knee injury,
one so bad that I just didn't expect him
to even be ready for this season.
I got to say, though,
if you're watching us on YouTube, thank you.
And you can see some of the work he's out there doing.
He's been moving around.
There's different videos of different drills where he is moving pretty well.
He's doing the seven on seven.
Some of the team drills, the video that we have for you,
you don't see as much we're enjoying it.
But he's making some moves.
Kim Skadaboo.
It seems more positive than I would have expected at this time of year.
Yeah.
And a very violent runner of the football.
Which makes me think, you know, maybe take your time, but he's, again, he's never shied away from contact or violence or putting his body through a lot.
So here's on, here's my take. Do not draft Cam Static.
He's got to be anywhere near where his draft.
Yeah, currently I would leave him alone as well.
I, but not even close. Like, if I had to guess, my guess would be he doesn't even lead the team in it from the running back position in yard trimmage.
But that's just an injury thing and that there's a, you know, Tyrone Tracy's there.
there's other veterans, they could always add.
Who knows?
It just seems like too much of a risk.
Shadir Sanders, after a couple weeks where it started to feel like they're handing this job to Deshaun Watson,
they've been bouncing back and forth between who gets the first team reps.
So they're sharing that evenly for what it's worth, you know, when the media was there today,
he took the first team reps, but Deshaun Watson's supposed to get it tomorrow.
But Todd Munkin, who said he had hoped to declare a quarterback before training camp,
and there was some reporting from Mary Kit Cabot that he would says he will not.
declare a starting quarterback before training camp that they're going to they're going to take it
into training camp so maybe that's a good sign for shudor sanders yeah i mean if you're going to do if you're
going to call it early it's like the jury coming back in 15 minutes you're like all right well
this is a wrap for me the veteran that's going to have the advantage here in this quarterback battle
but if if things keep going maybe shoulder has a shot right well it sounded like maybe there was they
weren't going to allow a battle i just don't understand just starting deshawn watson in the year 2026 we've
seen it. I know he'll
probably wind up starting games, but it just doesn't make sense.
I think for people who think Shador was
bad during his stretch,
his first opportunity to start as an NFL
quarterback, I think that version of Sanders was
far and away better than whatever we
saw from Deshaun. That version of Sanders
was better in an
incredibly more difficult situation
than Deshawn Watson had
last time around with the Browns.
Brian O'Neill, the tackle of
the Vikings is sitting out looking
potentially for a new contract.
The Bengals restructured Joe Burroughs contract, creating $10 million in cap space.
Someone interesting because they tend to not do that in Cincinnati,
dead money and moving money around,
so maybe they're getting a little more current.
Some other guys not practicing, I mentioned injuries before,
but I forgot to mention Mackay Lemon has been out with a hamstring injury.
Daniel Jones, not taking 11-on-11s,
but said he was pushing to do so and thought he could have done so.
So he is making good progress.
as are the Jacksonville Jaguars wide receivers,
if I have a takeaway from this OTA mini-camp season,
it's that I'm getting more excited about my guy,
Brian Thomas Jr.
Let's listen to Liam Cohen talk about his connection with Trevor Lawrence.
Yeah, it's been a huge point emphasis.
I would say we've probably hit more of those in these OTAs in mini-camp
than we did of all last season,
our last off season combined.
That's being the spring and training camp,
I would say we've probably hit more of those
than last year combined, which is a good thing.
It's something that we wanted to emphasize.
We started to emphasize it more, you know,
after the buy was in terms of trying to push the ball
down the field more.
And that chemistry with those two is so important
because if we can be explosive with those down the field routes,
being able to push the ball down the field with those two specifically,
well, man, I mean, now it truly
unlocks what everybody else can do,
not only just what he and BT
are able to do. I'm all about it.
That's what we wanted. You know, a question about
hitting these shots
down the sideline of BTJ.
It's worked out. He's very good at that.
Trevor Lawrence, very good at throwing it to him.
And with, you know, the ascension of
Parker Washington and all those things,
let's have the guys do stuff they're good at.
Yeah, Parker Washington
was given
glowing words by Liam Cohen also
just saying he has a ton of trust in him and he is really like a communicator and someone I think
they're going to invest in long term. But I put stock into this Brian Thomas Jr.
Conversation from Cohen because he's being very specific. And I don't think he's embellishing that
they've hit more deep shots than they did all of last off season. And it matches up exactly
with one of the best beat reporters in the business, John Shipley, who said from the get-go last year,
man, it is not going well with Brian Thomas Jr.
in these off-season practices.
Like, they just haven't been on the same page.
He's not fitting well with the new system.
And he was a little worried.
He had all these drops.
Maybe he's thinking through things.
And it carried into the season.
And he has been really banging the drum since the first OTA.
And they allow more media access than a lot of the teams out there.
So he's been there every day.
And Brian Thomas Jr., he said,
has just been looking electric, lighting up the practice field on a day-to-day basis.
This ADP is going to.
to go up because I'm going to push it up
myself. I know I used to work
in the industry. I still have that sort of power. You still do,
Greg. But Brian Thomas Jr.'s ADP
right now is wide receiver 32.
At least at the site I'm looking at,
overall 63. Just outrageous.
I'm getting him in
every, I would be getting him every single
format, every single draft.
To me, he's top 20.
I mean, last year he was top 10
to 15 going into the season
and so I think he's bouncing all the way
back there. But get him at like,
20 to 25, you get the good value.
Yeah. As long as we keep the lid on this thing, but you keep talking them up, you're not getting
there there. I mean, you're not getting to him. You're moving him.
Devonty Adams is way over him. Take him over DJ Moore, over Watson, over Adunze, over
Tate, over Jordan Tyson. Give me a break. It's a rookie.
Yeah, why are Tate and Jordan Tyson there at this point?
You saw a headline that you thought was unfortunate when it came to Parker Washington.
That's a new trend.
Yeah, it's not really a trend.
It's an old trend.
But we look for things to talk about during OTAs and mini-camp.
And so often it's about a player's growth.
But the headlines are always mentioning a player's growth
where it sounds like this is a physical growth on the player.
And it leads to some phrasing issue.
Frazing.
Yeah.
Like Liam Cohen speaks out about Parker Washington's growth.
Like, is he okay?
Did he get bit by radioactive spider?
Okay.
So there are many ways you could take.
Yeah.
It could be something like one of those boils on your neck.
Yeah.
That's rough.
Could be anything.
The Bill's fan in the crowd, Eric Roberts pointed out.
He just wanted to brag that Josh Allen led it in merchandise sales last year,
Bill's Nation coming through.
Mahomes in the top 10 for the eighth straight year.
He was number six.
Micah led all defensive players for a third three year.
How about Drake May number two?
Sequin?
These things are always like a year late because you're kind of buying the jersey of who was great the year before.
Or in May's case, it's like he's going into a six.
second year.
Saquan was number three,
JSN number four,
Jaden's up there.
And then we get to the news
that we've been
frankly overlooking
for too long.
No one I would rather
have,
give perspective to
on the Nathan Peterman
retirement than Eric Roberts.
Who has a close
personal connection
with the former Bill's
quarterback.
I was at the game,
guys.
The game.
The game in the soccer
stadium.
The game in which
he threw,
what, four interceptions in his first nine passes.
The game where I wore a Tyrod Taylor jersey
into the game and watched him sit on the bench
while Nathan Peterman blew the game.
I was at The Game.
That was a wild time.
Remember they sent the tweet out like QB1?
QB1, yeah.
With the music video, the edits.
They leaned into it.
Yeah, I mean, in part kind of led to Josh Allen.
I mean, he did start the next season.
season. Nathan Peterman was actually the starter week one
the next year. I think he threw
like two interceptions early in that game
against the Ravens, 43-7 loss, something like that.
Worst loss in the first game of Bill's history.
But thank you for Josh Allen, Nathan Peterman.
God bless the broken road.
You feel for him because this is a professional
athlete who's accomplished a lot and actually
lasted. That was 2017
when he had that, the game.
And it's 2026 right now. So it took till now
for him to retire. I mean, he was bouncing around
on some practice squads and whatnot,
but happy trails.
And yeah, I think that that second season,
it's all getting confusing to me.
He actually had somehow had a worst touchdown
interception ratio.
He had seven interceptions and only one touchdown.
He didn't jam it all into one half that season,
but it actually got worse the second season.
I had a conversation with my brother walking into that game
where I was like upset.
I'm walking in wearing a backup quarterbacker.
I love Tyraot Taylor too.
I mean, broke the drought.
But a lot of, you know, not going to win this games,
won't lose this games also.
But thank you, Nathan Peterman.
I'm glad you're here for this day, too, Patrick,
because I think no one has been harder on Nathan Peterman over the years than you.
Well, I mean, I think Nathan Peterman would have something to say
about being hard on Nathan Peterman.
There's, ultimately, my commentary was the same as Eric's that day.
Tyra Taylor deserved that chance.
Yes.
To start, we got more Nathan
Peterman, when a lot of guys have worked very hard.
You know, Nathan Peterman wasn't the only guy that worked hard.
And, you know, to his credit, he's not the only person, perhaps.
They got opportunities to play quarterback that shouldn't have through the history of the NFL.
There's a long list of guys on that.
But yeah, it was always fun to see the ball go in the other direction.
And, you know, it was probably unfair to him because, you know, he's just out there trying
to play football.
But it was hilarious to me every time.
And his name's funny.
So, yeah, I guess he kind of helped lead to the time.
to Josh Allen, but also the fact that that happened so quickly, got him benched so quickly
so that you guys could go make a playoff run, because that was that year with Tyrat, right?
It all comes together. Nathan Peterman.
I mean, shout out to was then Stubbhub Center in Carson.
It was awesome.
I mean, walking in, it was like, you know.
They were playing the charges.
Not a bad seat in the house, you know, two levels of seats.
It was awesome.
We got to get Patrick to this show, by this.
Sorry, Eric.
I just realized.
We are going to do a rapid fire.
Just some players early in the OTA season.
We are buying stock in.
And we'll just go back and forth.
We're kind of setting some breadcrumbs
that we're going to maybe expound on more
at a future date.
You saw Mike Mack with Jono Smith.
You saw Mike Mack resurrect.
Darren Waller.
What's Mike Mack going to do
with Arronday Gadsden the second
here in Los Angeles
where everything's going to be flying around?
I'm buying stuff.
stock in a Ronde gas in the second.
That's a good one too because I think people get distracted by the Injoku of it all.
And like Njoku signed a pretty low-cost contract.
It was like that Legerius Sneed contract.
It was like one year, three million dollars.
Like that's a backup type of a contract.
I'm buying some stock in Tariq Wollen.
Just the talk of the other Eagles coaches, the people covering that team,
I think they're excited.
I think he's excited to be in that system.
And I think they're going to highlight him and he's going to be making himself a lot.
of money this year. It makes so much sense. And I'm all about it. I'm also buying stock in
Elykeyeo manner. You've got two new wide receivers coming in, one with the familiarity with his
old head coach in Wondale Robinson and then Carnell Tate coming in as a rookie. But I think
it means something that first year are playing together with your quarterback. So I'm,
I'm in on Elykeye. Okay. Second year Titans receiver. This is a random one, but I saw this Ben
Johnson quote about Kaleef Raymond, just about how he's like,
32 years going on 24, that this guy's got fresh legs, that he has the juice, that Ben Johnson
is going to use him some Kleefe Raymond. And this is not a fantasy take because he's not
going to have a high enough volume. But I am buying stock in Kaleaf Raymond making like multiple
game-changing plays that impact a playoff race. Being on the receiving end of some insane Caleb
Williams play and being like, wow, that was a good signing, Kaleaf Raymond.
Yeah, there was a game last year where he did that.
Right.
And his head coach is at the podium almost in tears talking about how much he loves Leaf
and how much this team means.
Ben Johnson was there with Dan Campbell and he loves Leaf too so much, in fact, that he stole him.
He wants him to do those things for the bear.
Like is there a world that he is almost as productive as like Adunze and Luther Burden?
No.
What about like two thirds of the way there?
And that they're like a little less than people expect and he and he's a little more and
Loveland is kind of the
number one guy. Those guys are the producers,
but Leif is going to do things that make everybody
happy. You're not quite buying as Ben Johnson. I'm buying
more stuff. Do you have any more guys?
You're buying stocking? I'm fresh. I have one because
I don't know why I thought. This is the hottest
take. And I'm just
when I think about buying stock, it's like you're buying
low and I want to get it at the lowest
of values because it's going to only go up.
Okay. I'm
buying like a moderate amount now
and I might even buy more later,
which is going to hurt my cost averaging.
but I don't want to be too aggressive right now.
I think Tua Tua Tua Tava Loa with Kevin Stafancy is going to just be like,
have some moments where you're like, oh yeah, I don't know how Kevin Savansky does it.
He always, I'm not big on the Falcons is here, but he always just creates offense.
And then you'll be, you'll remember like, oh, yeah, remember a couple years ago
when everyone thought like Tua was a plus quarterback.
He can do certain things really well.
He can distribute the ball.
I think the combination of him and Stifansky, people are going to be reminded.
minded that this is a very accurate professional quarterback in Tua Tunga Baila.
So I'm going to get in a little early before the week three hot takes of like, oh, hey,
they really got something here with Tua.
Yeah, you get to see Stafansky and Dylan Gabriel plus plus plus plus.
Right.
Like all the things that he was able to do with Dylan Gabriel, you can do literally every
single one of those things much better, even with this version of Tua.
Now is that.
And maybe he's healthy and we get the other version.
Right.
Is that a path to the playoffs with this roster?
No.
is that a path to some surprising production that gets to a Tunga Vila Lua paid a lot more money,
maybe by the Falcons after this season because Drake London's there.
Yes, that's what I think I'm buying the stock in, but the stock is at an all-time low.
And so is your time on this day, Patrick.
We raced in. Congratulations to my son for graduating.
He did it.
From elementary school.
What a fun day and lunch we had.
And thanks for being flexible, Patrick,
always putting in the hard yards.
We will be back.
One more show this week.
You will hear from us on Thursday.
Looking forward to that.
Rapping up the week.
Football's back.
It's back.
This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed human.
