Welcome to NFL Daily, where they never stashed us on IRB boomerang.
I'm Greg Rosenthal.
And I'm here with Jordan Rodrigue to recap all the news and transactions that happen on cutdown day.
All the rosters are down to 53 active men, Jordan.
Not a day that's like, you know, a happy day around the NFL.
But it does feel like, okay, that means the seasons here.
That's a good thing.
Yeah, it's a milestone moment for some.
It's a really hard day for others.
it really just starts everybody's journey, whether they make the team or not, really starts
their professional journey off in different directions. And my favorite thing is always by the
middle of the season. We see some UDFAs breaking out, right, who've made these rosters or we've
seen guys who got cut and maybe get claimed by other teams off of waivers or guys who find a new
home on other teams. It turns out to be the right place. That's my favorite thing. But I'm an
optimist, Greg, an eternal optimist. Yeah. And this is a tough day for
fans of a lot of these players
but like you said it doesn't mean it's the end of the road
and I said you know every team's cut down
to 53 men that that's true
some even went further. The Lions only
have 50 guys on their roster which is interesting
we still don't know like as we're
taping this we're still waiting
for I believe it's five teams
these are the teams of shame
right now the Jets the Chargers
the Chiefs the Ravens
and the Buccaneers
We'll check if they release their 53-man roster by the end of the show.
We're taping this three hours after the deadline.
You know, we kept delaying the shows waiting for you.
You think you're better than us, Jets, Ravens, Chargers, Chiefs, and Bucks?
You stink.
Get over yourself.
Like, just release the names.
The rest of the league is going to find out.
All right, let's get to it.
We're going to have Eric help me out here, and he's going to have to count the number of nuggets throughout the show.
Because this is going to be a business-like show, Jordan.
Me and you are going through.
I don't like what you said before the show where you're like,
what do you even need me for here?
You're just like going through transactions.
You're going to offer a lot.
You're going to offer a lot.
You love a transaction, Greg.
I do love a transaction.
Although, let's just start because it was from Tuesday with a starting quarterback announcement.
Take it away, Kellyn Moore.
Spencer Rattlers are starting quarterback.
Really, really excited for him.
He's done an awesome job this offseason.
So he's just been consistent.
He's made some really good decisions throughout this whole.
entire process and, you know, his ability to make plays with his arm and his feet have
certainly shown up. And so I'm really, really excited about Spencer. He's earned this
opportunity. He's going to do a tremendous job for us. At the same time, we're really,
really fortunate. We got Tyler. Love the development that he's had over the course of this
entire offseason. My biggest takeaway with this one, Jordan, is that Kellen is doing what he
wants to do. You know, you do wonder about this organization sometimes. Is it
top down with Mickey Lewis making all the decisions or is it bottom up?
And, you know, Tyler Shuck is the guy the front office wants to play.
I believe he will play the majority of games.
But I do like that ultimately, Kellynne Moore decided Spencer Rattler looks a little more
ready, was a little more prepared and better in the preseason and reportedly in the
practices.
And I'm going to go with him now because he earned the job.
And we'll see where it goes.
The odds are obviously against Spencer Rattler keeping this job into, say, November.
Like October is probably the over under here.
Yeah, it's, I mean, who would be able to tell you who should be playing quarterback for you to start the season than a former quarterback who played the game at a very, very high level in Kellyn Moore.
So I would hope that they're listening to him on this topic.
And to your point, that's exactly what it looks like so far.
And also, Spencer Rattler's not a rookie.
I know he hasn't played a lot of football, but he's no longer a rookie.
Tyler Shuck still has some learning to do, obviously has to learn how to prepare for these games in real time situations.
And Greg, I think that while he looks at.
pretty good when we were at Saints camp, like good got better as the day went on.
Spencer Rattler has been there.
He knows the ropes.
He knows what he's supposed to do.
And he looked fine.
I mean, none of this is great.
But he, you know, of the choices you had, this seemed like it would be inevitable, as was
the Jake Hainer cut.
Right.
And Rattler, I mean, look, he's younger than Tyler Shuck.
Generally, you see a guy.
Which you always love to point out.
You hate old prospects.
I'm just saying.
In general, you expect.
the high second round pick to win the job at quarterback sooner than lander, but there's not
that many quarterbacks that are taken there anymore. So it's going to be Rattler versus
the Cardinals. Good luck in week one going up against that Jonathan Gannon defense. Some
interesting cuts there. Isaiah Foskey, who we mentioned. A lot of these cuts, we kind of previewed
in our Sunday shows with Shook over the last handful of weeks. And then they came to fruition,
a guy that our friend Adam reported back in the day, Mickey Loomis, put his thumb on the scale and
said, no, do not take Brian Branch, who Jeff Ireland and the front office reportedly wanted
to take. You're taking Foskey. He doesn't even make the team in his third year. So that's how
dysfunctional franchises can stay. Disfunctional. Jake Hainer didn't make the team and your
old friend, Cam Acres, unfortunately. Yeah, Cam Acres posted about it too. He said the NFL is
crazy a day before we are recording this. So I assume he knew this was coming. Well,
before it actually happened.
Yeah, it's too bad.
He's never quite come back from those injuries.
Clyde Edwards, Hilaire, was another guy cut from the Saints.
You just, on this, they see a lot of these names, and you're like, oh, yeah, like,
he's still in the league.
And it's just such a brutal road with the 90-man roster.
The Saints also traded for a tackle, Assam Richards from the Cowboys, for a late-round pick
in, like, 2028.
Let's get a big contract.
The Trey Hendrickson drama is over.
That's happened since we last taped an NFL daily episode.
He got a raise.
this season to $30 million, any takeaways from this saga ending, Jordan?
Thank God it's over, you know?
I mean, we were all waiting on the edge of our seat.
No, this was always going to get figured out.
It's just one of those things where, yes, there's a lot of drama in the middle.
Unnecessarily so, it seemed like, from the part of the organization.
And a lot of people going to the media to share their parts of the story and the guarantees were
an issue. And now there are questions about, you know, his long-term future or his longer-term
future with the team. But he wanted a raise. He got the raise. He will be playing for the
Bengals in 2025. After that, it's kind of a little bit of a gray area there, Greg.
You know what? As we're taping, I'm checking the website, breaking news just as we're taping.
Not breaking for the people listening. They have set their 53-man roster. They are no longer
on the list of shame. We'll have to see if there's anything.
Another reason to just have a big sigh of relief.
Thank God.
I did think that the structure of the deal and the raise was informative.
And Paul Dainer, your colleague at the athletic, kind of confirmed what I was thinking was
the Bengals had never had any interest in signing him long term, period.
Like if they just didn't offer them guaranteed money into the next year, this is essentially
a one-year deal.
If you listen to Trey Hendrickson's quotes, they're like, I really realize how much I wanted to
stay a Bengal for the 2025 season.
Yeah.
That was the quote.
So we've seen this with the Bengals before.
Jesse Bates did the exact same thing.
It was like a very obvious,
this will be your last year with the Bengals.
And they wanted to make it sound publicly like they wanted to keep them long term.
Apparently they had an offer where the second year of the deal,
he got like a $10 million pay reduction.
It's just like, let's be serious.
That said, I just wish they would be more honest about it to Trey Hendrickson.
I actually kind of get it.
a 30, 31-year-old pass rusher, like at some point you do need to make a change.
They wanted them this year specifically, but just, you know, don't give us all the nonsense.
Yeah, I mean, if you just look at it from an organizational perspective,
if you take out the fact that it's the Bengals and they do have such a history of these
types of situations unfolding the way that they have over the last couple of years with contracts,
structurally, logically, it makes sense that you know, he had an amazing year.
you know, league leading year in production last season.
At his age, there is no guarantee that that is going to repeat
the worth of a long-term extension.
So yes, all of this makes sense.
I think the issue is none of the other stuff had to happen, you know.
I do appreciate, though, the raise was a fair raise.
I mean, he had a $16 million base salary.
It goes all the way up to $30 million for where he is at.
That is fair.
Move along, but good news for...
Also, I do want to...
point out if you're watching this on YouTube, I had like a momentary, momentary, uh, semi freak out.
I don't know, it's just a shadow across my face. Tucker, my dog came up very quietly under the
table and put his nose on my knee. And I thought I was being attacked. Like I thought I was
going to die. So that's, that's what that was. If anybody caught that, sorry. I, I'm glad you pointed
that out. If anything is going to boost our YouTube numbers. And yeah, do us a favor. We don't ask for
too much, but if you're listening to this, hit that like button, subscribe. It does help grow the
show. If anything's going to grow it, it's some more Tucker. So let's get Tucker. I know. I'm just
going to put him in the chair. Actually, the next time we run through a transaction show like this,
or like a book review, for example, I'm just going to put him in the seat just so he's staring
blankly at you as you're rolling through all of the points that you want to make.
Oh, stop it. Watch out, Lenny. You're not the only dog on a podcast. It's not really on the podcast.
They finally ended our national nightmare here, Jordan.
And by our, I mean, mine.
One of them anyway.
Yeah.
Amari Cooper is back in the NFL.
Wow.
Back on the Raiders.
Your list, your list breathes a sigh of relief there, Greg.
You had them pretty high on your top free agents list this offseason.
Some would recall.
Well, forget this off season.
Every single preseason game on NFL Network, for some reason, they brought the list back.
and it's just scrolling across the bottom.
And I, you know, I sent that out on Twitter being like,
it's embarrassing at this point.
It's a personal shame that I just keep seeing Amari Cooper's name there.
And I was shocked because usually you send something that esoteric
and that personal, like four people care.
A million people are like, yeah, we know, bro.
It's pretty embarrassing.
Bad job by you on the list.
And I was like, I'm wearing that.
Cooper was too high.
But who knows, maybe he'll be like their number two receiver.
It wouldn't surprise me.
Jacobi Myers wants out of Oakland.
I think that's a contract thing.
But the Las Vegas, rather, not Oakland.
The Raiders said no, we have no interest in trading you.
Sorry, we're just going to completely ignore this trade request.
He had been wanting a contract extension.
But Amari Cooper comes in there and you figure, like, he's actually going to play right away, right?
I guess replacing Dante Thornton a little bit, maybe, the rookie in the starting lineup.
Maybe.
I mean, I don't know how still how much of a volume share he's going to get, because it looks like, based on
even what they showed in the preseason,
then also what we know kind of about
how they might want to go about, you know,
playing this offense is
they're going to run a lot of stuff through the tight ends.
And so Brock Bowers is still going to be the number one.
Then you're going to sort of orbit a cast of characters around him.
So I don't know.
Yes, I think he's going to play right away,
but I don't think it's going to be like this needle moving situation for him.
Good point.
If I was doing like fantasy shares,
you used to have to project.
Like, I'm still giving Jacoby Myers more targets than Amari Cooper.
I'm maybe giving Michael Mayer their second round pick at tight end from a couple years ago
and their second tight end more.
But a good guy to add to the mix.
Also, can he picket to the mix.
You know, here today's news before it happens on Sunday's show, we threw out there,
Kenny Pickett to the Raiders.
I'm sure the Browns would give them to the Raiders if the Raiders wanted them.
And they got a fifth round pick for them.
So somehow the Browns got the same value in a fifth round pick that they essentially gave up to get him.
So I guess that's good business.
I don't know.
I feel like that's a small, small win for the Cleveland Browns.
Very small.
They got nothing out of them, too.
Kenny Pickett's hand-sized win if you're the Browns.
I feel like it is.
That was super mean.
I take it back as I show my hands.
Why should hand size be like an insult?
Why should any size be an insult?
It's like sometimes when people are like, you know, oh yeah, like, you know, if like somehow
like height is brought up and someone's brought up as short or whatever, like, oh, sorry
about that.
Why would I take offense?
You know, why would even you take offense at small hands?
Like small hands are just as good as big hands.
If you're a quarterback, you need larger hands to hold on to the football.
Greg, this isn't about you.
You don't internalize this insult.
You know, like, this is not about you.
Jared Goffs made it happen, except for, you know, when it has, like, a little bit of moisture in the air.
Except for, like, all the fumbles over time, you know.
Look at all you're adding to the show.
It's loose.
They cut their Tom Brady pick, Cam Miller.
This has been on my radar.
That, like, Cam Miller was the Tom Brady approved quarterback, but they traded him to get Kenny Pickett.
And for those, just joining Aiden O'Connell was hurt.
So the Raiders are one of the teams of shame that haven't put their transactions,
but I would assume in O'Connell's going on short-term I.R.
And Kenny Pickett is there.
And Cam Miller will likely be on the practice squad.
The Texans had a lot of transactions that really matter that had nothing to do with the cuts.
So we did get clarity, Jordan, on Joe Mixen to the reserve NFI list out at least four weeks.
Some mystery there.
What's going on?
And DeNico Atri to the Pup list.
a lot of guys that they thought were going to have big parts of their roster this year,
three starters really and gone for various reasons for various amounts of time.
This is a team that's kind of showing us that they really want to throw the ball a lot right
away and that they might have to throw the ball a lot right away.
And so, you know, I think they've got the receivers to do it.
And they certainly have the quarterback.
I just everything is sort of moot if they can't protect.
So, you know, Mixin not being able to stabilize things, especially early on, that looms large early in the season for them.
I mean, I wouldn't be shocked if, you know, he doesn't play this season just from the sound of it.
I wouldn't be shocked if he's back in week six either.
I just sometimes you get a feeling with these situations when just the drip, drip, drip of info is coming out and it never sounds good.
He's on the NFI list, which means they can go after his money.
Why is he on that list?
There's setbacks.
It's confusing.
it's, I don't know.
The fact that they're trying to win a title
and Nick Chubb and Damian
Pierce are their leading running backs.
They want to run the ball a lot.
It's a little concerning there.
They also cut the guy
Harris and Bryant, the tight end
that they traded John Mechie for
last week.
So everybody say it with me.
Howie did it again!
I didn't really think you would say it with me,
but it would have been nice.
You never knew if you did exactly what I was thinking.
It wasn't in the rundown.
I'm not really sure what you were referring to.
But yeah.
That's just, that's his info.
You can go off and improv.
You can freestyle.
Trent Brown was in the rundown.
I didn't mention that.
He got cut, by the way, former 49ers and Bengal and Patriot.
Anytime that somebody gets cut very quickly after agreeing to terms or being involved in some
sort of a trade situation, I have the Simpsons jiff stuck in my head where the guy walks in
in the door, takes his hat off, then puts his hat back on, spins around and walks out.
That's basically what Harrison Bryant.
just did in Houston.
I hate that.
That happens all the time.
Like, you see these guys that just got cut, just got signed last week, and then they're cut
again or acquired.
A lot of times those guys end up on a practice squad, so it wouldn't surprise me if
Harris and Bryant add some depth there.
The Browns cut Dustin Hopkins, which means that Andre Smith, how do you say it?
It's S-Z-Y-M-T.
One of the best last names.
Is that a Schmitt, maybe?
Right? One of the best last names on a uniform. I would buy that uniform. S-Z-Y-M-T. He's the kicker.
They also cut Deonte Johnson, who I went back and looked. Talk about bad free agency rankings.
I do want in August every year, which is coming out later this week, by the way, like a preview, a little early top 30 or something.
and Deonti Johnson was in my top 20 last year at this point.
And he has been on, I think, three teams since, or four teams since?
It's crazy.
So would you say you're the good luck charm or the bad luck charm in this situation?
I mean, the rest of the list looked good, but man, he had almost 5,000 yards in the first six years of his career.
And he's been cut now by, or dumped essentially by like four teams in the span of 18 months.
It's rough.
I did want to listen to Kevin Stefansky, who talked about Dylan Gabriel, who won officially the backup job over Shadur Sanders with Kenny Pickett now in Las Vegas.
It's such a all-encompassing evaluation, so everything the guys did in the games was important.
We also saw a lot of them out here in practice and how they are at their craft, and he's certainly somebody that we think is getting better and better.
Do you have any hot rounds quarterback takes?
I feel like I've said anything I have to say on this one.
No, and I feel like the world needs less hot rounds quarterback takes, to be honest with you.
But I will say, I mean, it was pretty clear.
You draft a guy in the third round.
You're really hoping he's going to be your backup quarterback.
I mean, it's like, you know, circle gets the square.
One plus one equals two.
You know, that's kind of what, it's always trending this way.
And I am very high on Chodor Sanders as a long-term player in this league.
and certainly people will be watching breathlessly
to see his every move and his development still.
But if you draft a guy in the third round
and you know, you have Joe Flacco
and you need to find a backup,
that is your third round pick's probably going to be your backup, you know?
Right.
Him playing well really mattered in that sense.
I think they would have traded Kenny Pickett regardless.
Yeah.
But it had to give them more confidence.
I also don't think the Kenny Pickett trade
was like necessarily desperate.
than to happen. That was a unique situation where the Raiders were kind of crazy, desperate for some
reason, a little overly desperate. Because their backup broke his wrist or something similar to it.
So of course, you know, you got to find, like I'd rather have Tommy DeVito for nothing than give a
fifth round pick for Kenny Pickett, personally. But I can understand if you look at the sequencing
of how these events happened, the Raiders are trying to not get to the point where they're waiting
long enough to compete with anyone else for a potential trade. If someone else decides, okay, we
actually want to bring in Kenny Pickett. So it's like, all right, move faster than the other
people do, even if you're moving a little fat, like even if you look desperate, because you
kind of are. You need this player, you know, behind Gino Smith on your, on your roster. You need
somebody there. He'll be there week one in Foxborough as the backup. One snap away from my
guy, Gino Smith, in case he got hurt. The Falcons announced on Tuesday, Caleb McGarry,
the right tackle is out for the season. That comes a little.
That comes to a surprise.
We had no idea how hurt he was, and that's how hurt he is.
Yeah.
And by the way, he's the right tackle, and Mike Pennix is a left-handed quarterback.
So he is the blindside protector for Mike Pennix.
And also his backup, Storm Norton, great name, is a swing tackle, is also hurt.
So it's like Elijah Wilkinson, who reporters were saying was at practice last week at right tackle.
He's a veteran.
They also are trying, it seems like.
they're in the market. They made a trade with Seattle for a sort of a depth guy too. But this is
not great. This is really tough. It is six to eight weeks for Storm Norton and the full season
for Caleb McGarry. That's not great. That is brutal. And one of the bigger little, you know,
bigger items to come out today just in terms of like impacting the teams when lost total and great
perspective there on the blind side, you know, on the right tackle. I was a person who did an
entire in-depth story about field spacing for left-handed quarterbacks because I am a true
sicko. So I definitely have, I have even more to share should you want it. I hope you don't,
but I do. I want it. Eric, I hope you're keeping track, you know, of all the nuggets that we can
put in a number at the front of this show. But I will point out, like, I did leave some things on the
cutting room floor. You mentioned that tackle going to the Falcons. There had to been like seven
tackles that I wasn't overly familiar with that got just traded around today for like
seventh round conditional picks.
KT. Levinston went to the Browns.
Right.
That was another one from the Rams, right?
Yeah.
I left those on the cutting room floor.
If those matter in the long run, we'll see.
If it's your team, I'm sure you know anyways.
Speaking of teams that we follow closely, the New England Patriots, after all the honking by
me all training camp kept Kyle Dugger, their safety.
kept Anfredine Jennings, their defensive end, kept Kendrick Bourne.
I think these are all for now.
I wouldn't be surprised if any of those changed in the next few days.
So all these situations are fluid, but they all are on the roster.
They cut Cole Strange, who was a first round pick a couple of years ago by Bill Belichick
that everyone made fun of.
Looks like everyone, aka the Consensus Board, was right there.
Marcus Epps, who's played a lot of football at safety, got cut.
Braden Swinson, who was a fun fifth round pick a lot of people liked, did not make the team.
He could, he's someone actually, I think, could get claimed by another team.
And then their rookie kicker, Andy Borealis, won the job.
Even though it seems like he didn't win the job, they just gave it to him because he was the draft pick.
There's some great kicker names out there this year, you know?
Fempton Chisholm, another great name.
We just took it for granted that.
He made the team, by the way, but he made the team, along with Javon Baker.
I know.
I told you this.
Back when I was at Vikings, Patriots, joint practices, I was like, this guy is making the team.
I mean, there's, I don't have a question about it.
The way they were using him first and second team reps, very, very clear.
I don't know how much he's going to play right away or at all this year.
But definitely, definitely a guy who's making that team.
If they trade Kendrick Bourne, I, yeah, I don't think Josh McDaniels can resist.
He's got to put him out there.
Let's take a quick break.
We'll get an update if any of the teams of shame have come off the list and what number
nugget we are at right now, back in a minute.
It's 5.23 p.m.

Back on NFL Daily.
A lot of controversy
trying to total out these nuggets.
Eric had roughly 13.
Jordan, what did you have?
Like 30-something?
30-something.
So streets are talking that
that this might not be an exact number.
That's very worrisome.
But the exact number of teams
on the list of shame
remain the same. I checked during the break.
Still six. Ravens, charges,
chiefs. Bucks.
That's five.
I'm not good at adding.
Let's fire through the rest of these nuggets.
And it's a day that Eric wants to be over.
We kept them late. He also finds it very annoying that all the insiders act like it's such a big
deal that they exclusively report that like the 74th guy on the Titans got cut.
which, you know, it's just part of the game.
But I could see how Eric would find it annoying on a hot Los Angeles state.
Denver Broncos, they cut Adrick Estimate.
That was the interesting one there.
They do have a nice deep roster.
I was expecting to see some fireworks with the Broncos.
I thought maybe there would be some trades, but there really wasn't.
It was pretty quiet.
Let's go to the bills because that's too quiet.
Maxwell Hairston, their first round pick went to injured reserve.
So the rules for that, if we haven't been clear on that,
it means they have to miss at least the first four weeks of the season.
each team has a certain amount of guys they can designate to return every year.
I believe it's eight now, right?
And you can do two at this time of year.
Why are you laughing?
I'm sorry, I'm in the Google Doc, and I'm seeing Eric is passive-aggressively writing numbers
next to all the things now because he wants to be right about the count.
That's amazing.
Oh, my God.
Maybe he's just trying to be a pro.
I appreciate that.
He's showing his work.
Okay, you're out for the bills.
Michael Hoyt, Larry Ong-Joy, Ovi, to the suspended list.
They cut Mike White.
He didn't make the team.
Frank Gore, Jr., who had some good numbers.
I mean, you know, I want that guy to make it.
We'll probably be hitting year three on the practice squad.
But, man, they are thin in their defensive backfield with Harrison now out for at least four weeks.
And Tyrell Shavers made the team.
You know, Eric's got to like that.
Yeah, I mean, we kind of knew, too.
that this was coming up front for them.
It seemed like the bill signed both of these guys,
Mike Hoyt and Larry Ogenjobie,
like maybe without knowing that this was coming,
because I don't know why you would do that
if you knew that these guys were going to be suspended for that long.
That's significant.
I am concerned about this defense overall.
I'm concerned about how they start the season.
They're going to have to score a lot of points early.
And there was also some chatter.
It was interesting.
You know,
they even addressed it locally a little bit earlier this week or last week,
late last week, a little bit of like Curtis Samuel chatter, too, just trying to figure out if
maybe he was somebody who was tradable for them. So I still kind of have my eye on that as these
teams try to figure out what they've got or don't have at receiver. Good call. To me, he would be
very tradable. I think he would help teams out there. And good thing for the bills was he actually
got healthy just in time to practice. And the injury is no longer a concern over the last week.
So good call on that one. The bucks cut.
Kyle Trask. The quarterback controversy is over. Teddy Bridgewater wins. Kyle Trask, I think a second round
pick. I would argue, though, even though he never played, if you got him to be your backup
quarterback for three years, including like a Super Bowl championship year, that's actually a fine news.
Backup quarterbacks are worth that much. They also cut Trey Palmer, who had a lot of touchdowns
for them just a year ago. And the Panthers cut Hunter Renfro and your boy, Adam Thielen,
remains on the roster. Do you think he will stay there?
Why is he become, why is Adam Thieland? Why am I claiming Adam Thielan?
Just feels like a guy that would be your boy, Minnesota in general.
It just been like pretty skeptical of that receiving core for a while. So I don't know why this is a fit.
But yeah, it's interesting. There's been some like combating messaging being leaked
slash shared across the insider network over the last couple of days and versus what people
are saying locally about, you know, whether he is also into the idea of a trade and the
communication of he wants to, he would be open to it, but hey, the price is too high or, you know,
those kinds of things. And I just, I find that to be a little like wearisome if I'm, if I'm
the Panthers. And so I, and so I think, you know, just, just shut it down, honestly. I mean,
they've got to talk after these cut downs and all this stuff. I'm Dan Morgan.
I just get up there and shut it down.
My guess, because I think he wanted a raise at one point, is just he wants, if he's going
to bother to move, he wants a bump, a good bump.
And I'm sure in Minnesota is not willing to give him the money that he wants.
But if there, for this much smoke to happen, there's clearly interest on both sides.
Oh, yeah.
One hundred.
Minnesota has a need.
I mean, they, they, he would fit right back into a system he knows.
Like, they have a need.
at receiver with some of their guys hurt right now.
It makes so much sense.
It makes so much sense, in fact,
that it's a perfect time to ask for a pay bump, you know?
Like, that's where we're at with this, I think.
Yeah, like, with Jordan Addison suspended,
their wide receiver two is Jalen Naylor, and then...
And he's been hurt.
He's been hurt.
And it's Ty Feltin, who hasn't been great, the rookie.
And, yeah, I think they kind of need Adam Thielen.
Plus, it would be more fun to watch.
I was bummed to see Robert Woods cut from the Steelers.
Might be the end of the road for a very,
good player over the years with the Rams, of course, the bills to start out, Texans.
They also caught Chuck Clark, who was brought in to maybe play some big snaps for them
at safety. Beanie Bishop, who I think had four interceptions as a rookie and is now not on
the team, James Pierre. So actually some pretty worthwhile names cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Feels like at least a couple of those guys are practice squad candidates, too.
You know, I mean, Robert Woods, because of his just intrinsic knowledge and ability to just sort of slot in and blocking help pretty much anywhere you put him, seems like he would be a viable.
I mean, I wouldn't rule him out if you're looking at waiver claims and whatnot.
He's someone who I would feel like Minnesota may have some interest in, not because he's going to go be your one, two, or three, once your healthy guys get back, but because he can help you.
And he knows Kevin O'Connell and kind of knows that system.
Good call as like I'm noting in the, I'm noting.
that none of these little additions are counting as nuggets, I would personally count them that
way. I'm not judging. I'm just noticing. Like if you're breaking that down, I think the cutting
of the Renfro and then the feel and analysis is two different nuggets. I think they're a little
separate. I think they're separate. I'm noting in the dock now. Thank you, Eric. Thank you for seeing
me. I appreciate it. The Cowboys put one of our favorite camp guys, Phil Maffa, on Injure
reserve. So he could be back during the season. Rookie running back. And then their veteran running
backs, it looks like all made the team, at least for now, Miles Sanders, Giovante Williams.
Trevon Diggs is fully practicing. We mentioned that he was activated, but he's talking up potentially
being available for week one. We'll see. But even that he's talking that way is positive.
Let's listen to a less positive storyline, courtesy of Coach Brian Schott and I. We're talking about
Michael Parsons. Mike and I had a long conversation. Probably talk for an hour about a lot of different
things and addressed a number of different issues and things like that. And at this point,
I'm going to keep that between he and I. But we had a very, very good conversation.
An hour. And so it goes. That's like a Jordan Roderig, Greg Rosenthal, post-show call or something.
I mean, he thought it'd be short. An hour's a long time for a head coach to just be doing that
conversation. I know and I all of these whenever coaches say stuff like this and this situation
particularly but like over the history of the modern you know holdouts of our league when coaches
get up and say this I so wish we could know like what really are they talking about like how much
of that time is small talk how much of that time is checking on your family is there any part of that
that's been trying to convince somebody of something they don't want to be convinced of how much
of that is spent talking about other things. I mean, that's like you're not sitting there repeating.
Could you please come back to practice? Could you please come back to practice? Like, you're just,
you're not just doing that. I mean, I don't know. Hey, man, we got new hit dummies. You'd really like
them. I promise. You know, what are we doing here? You can't do that at all because, you know,
he knows, he hopes that Michael Bars is going to be on this team and he just wants their connection to
be great. So it's got to be a soft sell of just of just caring about him as a human. And
Maybe not talking about that, like seeing if he's sleeping enough at night.
If he needs that nap on the trainers table, that's a little worrisome, you know.
It's just your typical food coma, you know?
Who among us has not needed a quick, a quick snooze, a quick power nap after eating some nachos, you know?
The lions, they're not afraid to be different.
They've got only 50 players.
Mention that up top.
That seems weird to me.
Obviously, they're going to add three more players.
They're not going to, this isn't like the new analytics that just have less players.
But they only have three edge players I noticed on the roster.
And one of them is a starter, Marcus Davenport,
who's been available for a total of six games over the last two years.
So it's a little worrisome.
They cut Hendon Hooker, which we saw coming.
They cut Dan Skipper, one of my favorites, which I did not see coming.
And they have a lot of guys on Pup or NFI out at the beginning of the season,
especially on defense.
Josh Pascal, Aleem McNeil, so those are both defensive line.
and then Malcolm Rodriguez,
Rodrigo from Hard Knocks a couple of years ago.
So, yeah, just a little shorthand.
It was just a reminder.
Even though it felt like they didn't get that hurt in the training camp,
they are missing more players than most teams.
I wonder what they're cooking up to because it's not like, you know,
I mean, it just feels like they're looking,
they're going to be somewhat a team that they're not super high on waivers,
obviously, but might be looking there.
Might be a team that's looking to make some trades.
I mean, they're so, they're so competition ready.
Like, they're so ready to be a strong team right out of the gate that you're just sort of picking and pruning.
But it is interesting.
I wonder how many people across the league and other buildings are like, what do they do?
And only 50 players.
Is this something new?
Because the lions are now sort of setting their own tone and a lot of different team building method.
So it's like, oh, what is this new thing now?
What are they doing?
Does it mean anything?
No, it doesn't mean anything.
They're going to add three more players.
I know. I have seen it before like with like 52 or 51, maybe. Maybe 51. Never seen the 50. You made me think like, oh yeah, who would they sign? There are some people out there. Zadaria Smith is not on a team right now. So that would not surprise me at all bringing him back because he was pretty good for them last year. Janavian Clowny, not on a team at all. Both feel like they could be lions. But Zadaria Smith literally was a lion. So that seems.
more likely. Let's go to the Eagles who cut Kenyon Green, who they traded for in the
Chaunty Gardner Johnson trade, former first round pick of the Texans. Kendall Lamb, who I thought
was a good pickup for them. Nikobi Dean is going to the PUP list. And Fred Johnson, their swing
tackle from a year ago was brought back in a trade. Another one of those tackles. They brought
them back from the Jaguars. Unfortunately, your first guy you mentioned in some show this off
season, Terrace Marshall did not make the Eagles.
Yes, you texted me. How early should we talk about this today? Because I know you just
really, you really wanted to rub it in just a little bit. Okay, if this was going to work,
this was going to be the team that it works with. That's what I'll stand by that.
I didn't want to rub it in because you're not rooting against a guy or one of your tapes.
No, no, you're rooting against me. No, I wasn't. I wasn't. I think our friend Bo
Wolf pointed it out, you know, even after that show, like, oh, it's interesting.
Jordan led with Terrace Marshall Pop.
I don't even remember what we were talking about.
Yeah, I don't remember what we were talking about.
It was like something like similar to I can fix him where it's like,
could this actually work?
Could they actually find a diamond in the rough kind of thing?
And new faces, new places, new places.
This is a guy with traits and skill.
And I'm like looking at the eagles and I'm like, if anyone can do it,
Howie and Coe can do it.
And they couldn't.
So as it turns out.
This is what happens, Jordan.
When you're on, you know, we bumped it up.
It was getting to like twice a week in the offseason.
Now you're three times a week.
It's just there's, you know, the history is rich.
The Seahawks, two fullbacks made the team.
Immediately one Seahawks fan was like, well, one of them, I forget which one.
He's really a tight end, but they list him as a fullback for marketing.
Well, if that's true, it worked.
For marketing.
They should.
Marketing.
That's incredible.
Oh, my gosh.
Okay, I love this, watching their preseason games because they actually showed more
of what they want, especially when the first team was in,
they showed more of what they actually want to do with this offense
and what Clint Kubiak wants to do with this offense.
I'm trying to temper my feelings about this,
but I'm low-key kind of fired up about this.
I love the fact that they're playing Gary Kubiak ball with a fullback.
They're playing, they're looking,
what they're trying to be is like 2019,
Kyle Shanahan, 21 personnel, like,
we're going to run through your face kind of people.
still don't know if they can pass, protect, we'll see. But like they, they've got some dudes
to help them chop away in this run game. And I really like it. And I like the fact that
they're using fullbacks. And I think that is an important thing to be doing in the modern cycle
of what we're watching in the league. It's crazy. Like everything old is new again. I just,
you see these 53 man rosters. You've done it enough times. And we had gotten to the point where there's
only like eight to 10 total fullbacks left in the league. And so I don't know how long it's been
since I've seen two on the same team.
It's got to be at least a decade.
The Patriots would carry two some back in the day, but it's been a while.
Unfortunately, Marcus Valde Scantling, I think, is going to win the competition that only exists
in my head that I keep track of every year at this time, which is what front office gave
away the most guaranteed money to a guy that didn't make the team.
And I think it's probably Marcus Valde Scantling right now for $3 million because it's no slight
to MBS.
He got that.
That money's guaranteed.
He's getting that money, but obviously not something you want to do.
It's just like burning $3 million.
So next time you hear about like, oh, quarterbacks cost too much money, this or that,
it's like teams make mistakes in the middle and the bottom of the depth starts so much.
That's like, don't worry about the quarterbacks too much.
That's my take.
I got some breaking news, Jordan.
The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their 53-man roster.
They are off the list.
Off the shame list.
Woo-hoo.
Oh, man, they're having a big,
they're having a big day, you know?
It's now down to the Chargers.
That's right.
You know, congratulations to Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift.
And by the way, great analysis.
We've given them some pop here.
But when Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift did their podcast together,
I didn't personally have the desire to engage.
invest like that much time in it, but no judgment on those who would. But I would much rather listen
to the sports gossip shows, like 55-minute recap of that two-hour and 20-minute conversation than the
actual conversation. So everything that you want, you can go right there. Or now your colleagues
at the athletic. Yeah, and I'm super stoked on that sports gossip show. I turned you on to them,
and they're like my happy place listening show, to be honest with you. It's pretty great. Same. Same. I really like
it. No, you know, I was trying to read while you were talking, but, you know, I wanted to pay
attention to the Seahawks stuff. But we knew Taekwon Thornton was going to make the team.
We knew, you know, Juju Smith-Sutcher was going to make the team. I didn't see many surprises with
the chiefs, but a couple of veterans, Mike Pennell, who's played a lot for them, including in the
Super Bowl last year was cut. Mike Edwards, the safety, who's also played a lot for them, was cut as
well. Let's move on to the Cardinals. No surprise. They put their defensive
of lineman Walter Nolan,
Bilal Nichols,
and BJ Oja Lari,
all on the Pup list.
So they are out
for at least the first four games
of the season.
The 49ers also put
Brandon Ayyuk
and safety Mike Mustafa
on the Pup list.
They will be out
for the first four games
of the season.
Yeah, the really thin still,
49ers, they're staying that way.
Joanne Jennings' situation
has shown no signs
of resolving.
Kyle Shanahan said he's
expecting him to be ready
for week one.
He has a practice.
So I don't know how ready
you could possibly be.
So this is something where I would expect them to,
I mean, they made, it's Sky Moore, right?
I would expect them to at least make another move
before this week is up.
Yes, because they cut a lot of their depth guys.
I think some of the younger players,
they're hopeful could be ready for week one,
but if not, then they're going to have to get some guys in the building.
They could be someone that makes a trade here.
I did see almost like a threat from the team,
which seemed wild.
from Tim Kawakami in a written piece
that they could go with a nuclear option
and put Ayuk on the IR or NFI list
to start the season so that and, you know,
like they just wouldn't let him play.
Almost calling his bluff that he's not really hurt.
Well, if you're not really hurt.
You mean John Jennings.
Juan Jennings, yes, sorry.
John Jennings, I'm sorry.
Yeah, that's crazy.
I saw Kawakami saying too that they could trade him.
I mean, that's like all of this is, I mean, we, he's pretty plugged in over there to that,
to that coaching staff in that front office.
So if this being floated a little bit, I'm like, oh, man, this is escalating a little bit here.
But, you know, if you're Joanne Jennings's agent, the BS detector is so easy to read.
When I read that, I was like, there's no chance.
I would, there's zero point zero chance that they would put a guy on injured reserve like that.
They were just throwing it out there as a threat.
It's dirty business.
My son's favorite player, yes, reset the, you know, shows since Walker Rosenthal has been mentioned meter back to zero.
His favorite new player in the entire NFL is Marlo Wax.
I mean, Marlowe Wax, the linebacker on the Chargers, who balled out in this preseason game we went to,
and then was outrageous in their third preseason game, made the team.
So I am very excited.
We were following this.
We actually don't know this from the Chargers.
We only know this from Marlowe Wax on Twitter.
where he said, thank you, God.
And I'm taking that as confirmation that my guy made the team.
I want everyone who listens to NFL Daily to track Marlowax's entire career from the beginning.
We're doing it.
I mean, what if it wasn't?
What if he was released and was like, I'm going to go find another team.
Thank you, God.
What if it was that?
This is a pretty big risk that we're taking here.
But it's the Chargers zone fault.
You did this to yourself.
You're still on the list of shame.
The Bears activated their cornerback, Jalen Johnson.
And so that's good news.
They're at least hopeful that he'll be back at some point early in the season.
They cut a 23 third rounder, Zach Pickens at defensive tackle.
And then I noticed T.J. Edwards, their linebacker, was heard at practice this week,
I think today, Tuesday.
So that's something just to keep an eye on.
Case Keenham made a roster.
I mean.
2025.
I know.
Like, that's cool.
Clearly they value his experience and ability to help.
those guys out. He's like in also kind of a quarterback's coach adjacent role in that room. Like
he is very much taken on talking to people over there, taking on the the mentorship role,
the preparing for X, Y, and Z. You have to remember, I mean, Caleb Williams himself said he wasn't
doing any of this, didn't even know how to do any of this in the NFL from what happened last
season. And so resetting and really building in, you know, case keen, not many more players are
more tenured at preparing for game weeks, whether as the starter or the backup,
than Case Keenham is.
And all of that entails start to finish for a quarterback.
That's awesome.
And he really is the new Josh McCown, the, like, coach slash quarterback.
Because they just gave their backup, Tyson Bayesian, a new contract right before he had,
like, one of the best preseason of any quarterback out there.
And that's a cool and young quarterback room.
You could tell Ben Johnson really likes Tyson Bayesian, which, which,
is interesting if they ever needed to use him.
I think he'd be pretty good in that offense.
All right, let's just fly through some of these.
The Giants cut Tommy DeVito.
I think he'll end up on a roster if not.
I'm sure he'll be on that practice squad.
The commanders cut some notable wide receivers,
KJ Osborne, Michael Gallup,
you know, former Raiders top pick,
the defensive lineman, Cleland Farrell.
They play Sam Cosmi,
their all pro guard on the P-UP list.
And I just wanted to shout out,
Josh Johnson, class of 2008 draft pick.
Josh Johnson, still in the NFL, made a roster again.
Only three players from the 2008 class are on a team.
Were you tracking my social enough to know I already tweeted about this?
Because don't look.
I want you to try to guess who they are if you haven't seen it.
I did see it.
I don't remember who it is.
I have notifications on for you, Greg, because you're an important figure in my life.
I mean, that's an insane behavior to have notifications on for literally anyone on Twitter, I think, but especially me.
You're an important person in my life. I don't like to scroll. So I like to just see what you're
talking about, you know, without having to scroll through that halacious website every day and find
my news that way. What if I'm like half the time it's like, oh, Petra Kavitava. Congratulations on
her retirement. You know, you know, it's kind of crazy. I actually view you as a complete person.
So I'm interested in the things you're interested in also, you know, like I'm your friend.
So like I'm interested in like your hobbies and your life. And I know that's crazy. I know that's
crazy concept for you there, Greg, but, you know, I am.
You're interested in women's professional tennis that much that you just want the analysis,
although the U.S. Open is going.
It's a great time.
If you're a bird, I'm a bird, Greg.
That's like the nicest thing you've ever said to me.
That's very nice.
Malachi Corley was cut by the Jets.
We've been talking about that on the Sunday night shows.
The Packers cut Isaiah Simmons, Mikul Hardman.
They put Christian Watson on PUP.
Their backup running back, Marshawn Lloyd, is going to end.
reserve. Isaiah Simmons, you said to me over tech, kind of the ultimate I can fix him guy,
unfortunately. He's the face of I can fix him defensive players. Bummer. It just hasn't happened
for him. I remember, you know, our friend, you know, Chris Wesleyan, I had a, had a long fascination
of, can someone figure out how to get Isaiah Simmons going? Sean McVeigh, I thought this was
interesting. And I'll let you say if you found anything interesting from the Rams cuts in general.
but I did note that he was quite optimistic about Stafford for week one.
At this point, they're putting their names on it that they expect him out there.
This has been from the beginning.
I know it got a little dicey there in the middle.
If Matthew Stafford had another setback, maybe we're not feeling so optimistic,
but I'm telling you, and I've said this right from the start,
that however hubristic it might have seemed, this team was internally optimistic that week one
would be a go for Matthew Stafford, regardless that if he were like missing an arm,
he would still be out there.
I mean, I hope for him that he's protected.
Allerick Jackson is going to be working back into team drills this week,
the left tackle.
That's absolutely huge.
He's been recovering from blood clots so far through the spring and summer
and sort of getting on treatment to manage those.
So that is significant as well as Matthew Stafford being a go for a week one.
But yeah, I mean, this is just kind of,
they're saying the things they've muttered and maybe doubted
just a little bit in themselves over the,
last couple of weeks, but they've been muttering this since this popped up that he'd be
okay for week one. And you wrote in that Poupal, the fifth round pick, was cut. Yeah, the inside
linebacker. Yeah, fifth round pick, they traded up to get him. And he was dealing with some hamstring
issues to start camp. So kind of a delayed development for him. And then Sean Dolack up from Western
New York. And he is an undrafted free agent inside linebacker who made this roster. And usually when
the Rams have an undrafted free agent who makes the roster, he's playing for them sooner
rather than later, particularly at a position that they don't financially invest in.
Definitely someone I've got my eye on there.
Like that shout-out.
I like the nitty-gritty.
I like knowing some players' names to just like keep a closer eye on.
I've been keeping a close eye on this list of shame, and we do have some breaking news,
Eric.
The Chargers are off.
the list just in time. And this is why, like, we want a complete show. I haven't even
gone through their whole list yet. And immediately, I see something notable. First of all,
they caught Taylor Heineke. So Trey Lance earned that backup job. Nice upward trajectory to his career,
which is cool right now, seeing him turn it around. But they only kept three running backs.
And one of those three is Najee Harris. So to me, that is really notable that he did not end up on
the NFI list and they're thin at the position.
So they cut Kamani Vidal, which I was a little surprised about.
They cut Naheem Hines.
Hassan Haskins right now is the third running back.
So it shows a little bit of confidence there in Najah Harris.
Yeah, it shows confidence that he'll be back and playing for them before they are in dire
straits and needing him to, right?
Like, this is like sort of a calmness because you would at least keep an emergency option
if you were worried about multiple weeks into the season.
And Omari and Hampton, I mean, I'm really excited to see what he can do because he'll be playing
for them immediately, he's starting for them immediately. And he's just showed a lot of promise.
He has a lot of buzz around him. And this is going to be kind of his run game to start.
And Jr. Colson was put on injured reserve. I didn't realize his injury was nearly that
serious because he was not designated for return. You can designate two players for return. And they
did a long snapper and a depth defensive back, but not Junior Colson. So he is out for the season
for the Los Angeles Chargers.
Last couple teams will hit.
The Dolphins cut Mike Hilton.
They signed Razul Douglas.
So he's back in the league.
They've been using this undrafted free agent,
Jason Marshall, at the nickelback position.
The Colts cut a 2023 second rounder,
Juju Brent.
I can guarantee he is going to get claimed on waivers
because he is a talented guy
who's put up some interesting film at the NFL level,
but has had some injuries.
Not sure if there's something else going on there.
They also traded for Mikai.
Blackman from the Vikings for a sixth round pick and they cut Jalani Woods. Do you have any
Colts thoughts before we say goodbye? I don't really have any cult's thoughts. It's more so that it looks
like the Vikings are trying, they're starting to stockpile up these middle to middle late to
late round picks over the next two seasons. And I always get curious when a team starts doing that.
I always get very curious about what they're thinking and their team building model. That's going to
mean and why.
Hmm.
All right.
Keep an eye on the Vikings.
Insert Brian Windhorse, you know, pointing fingers here.
Their cuts aren't out yet, right, or are they out?
I haven't seen, I haven't seen if they are or not.
But they kept Brasmer, the quarterback.
They love that guy.
He's on their developmental track for them.
Like, they absolutely love that kid.
Their cuts are out.
We're down to now that the chargers are crossed out.
Just three teams left on the teams of shame.
And I just want to make sure, because we're all about being 100% accurate,
that I'm going to double check and make sure they have not done anything in the last few minutes
before I announce who they are.
In the meantime, let's end the show on a happy note.
And let's listen to a guy we mentioned on Sunday night show,
defensive linemen, UDFA, that Kevin Stefanski loves so much that he announced at the podium
that this kid was going to make the team.
Aidan Huntington and a guy who hasn't really talked with the media much there
and had something that just warmed my heart on Tuesday.
I've been watching Brian Baldy for years.
I had videos saved from my Twitter.
And actually one of my goals coming here was him to make a positive video about me.
So when I had saw I got tagged, I looked at the phone, I blinked, it was surreal.
And at that moment, I just thank God
because, like I said, that was one of my goals.
And, you know, a lot of times people get those videos
for not so positive things.
So just for it to be a positive video
and, you know, it's positive reinforcement.
But like I said, I have to continue to work.
I have to continue to do the things that I did to get me here
and maybe even do a little bit more so I can stay here.
I love that so much.
Oh, that's so nice.
Oh, my gosh.
I love that.
I love that baldy through,
just his pure love of football.
We have our show
the reasons for joy
for the 2025 season
coming up later this week.
And man,
that is a guy
who finds so much joy
out of the game.
And because of that,
he started putting out
those ball,
these breakdowns,
and it's turned into a great thing.
But all it is is just like,
he's just loving,
watching ball
and wanting to share it with someone.
And I guess I never thought
because it's just these clips
on Twitter and stuff
that kids are growing up
and they're,
if they love ball,
that much too. They're watching Baldi's breakdowns and he said it was a goal for him to get on a
baldies breakdown. And then he did it as a rookie undrafted free agent. What are the odds of that,
by the way? Like, that is so cool. Yeah, that makes me smile. There's been a couple of really
earnest, such heartwarming moments from this preseason. And that's probably one of my favorites,
Tyson Bejit crying at the podium talking about how his dad didn't have electricity or excuse me,
running water growing up and how much this meant to his family. Like these things, I just,
they get me every time, Greg. I'm so soft. They just get me every time. I just go. I've got like
a tear in one eye. I can't even right now. Stay that way. Okay, Jordan, that is our final nugget.
Roughly 70 nuggets is where we landed. Give or take 100. Yes.
Roughly 70 nuggets. And I don't know if this is a nugget or if this is just the most important thing
everyone listening is going to hear today. The final three teams to release their players to
actually just tell the media and help the media do their job were the New York Jets,
the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Baltimore Ravens. And as Case would have it, they actually
all posted their cuts within 10 minutes of each other right as we are wrapping up the show. And so,
you would think, Jordan, that that would take them off the list of shame,
but it wouldn't because I can look at the timestamps and the chargers.
They got it in at 7.40 Eastern time.
They're off the list of shame.
The Ravens, they got it at 747 Eastern.
I'll be generous and take them off the list of shame.
The New York Jets, I like your team this year.
I think you're going to be better than people think.
But you were the last team to report.
all the cuts, and you have to stay on the list of shame, at least for tonight.
Whatever is wrong with you, I think, like, needs to be, like, extracted, bottled and studied
somewhere, frankly. This is just, this is Pete Gregg right here, to be honest with you.
Well, I was, I, like, I'm looking at the time stamps.
You're on time stamps? I'm starting to get excited. I was like, oh, 740. Oh, 740.
Okay. It's over. Let's get out of here. Oh, my gosh.
We will be back, Jordan, on Wednesday, really big show.
We are going to do our awards predictions.
We'll be back in the studio for that.
So really excited.
And we have a surprise that you don't know about, that Eric doesn't know about,
that the listeners don't know about that I'm really exciting.
A surprise.
That's it for roster cut down.
2025.
Look, when two fullbacks are making a freaking team football is so back.
Two fullbacks.
In the heat of battle, your squad relies on you.
Don't let them down.
