Starting point is 00:01:52 Steps up, throws down the middle. It's caught pickings, gets away. Left side, 15. Sutter's into the 10. Watch in, touchdown Dallas. Holy cow. George Pickens somehow broke away from everyone and trotted into the end zone for a 37-yard touchdown. Oh, you never know what's going to happen when George Pickens gets the ball.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Or when you're going to watch George Pickens in prime time at all. He might get a penalty after scoring the touchdown. He might break a couple ankles. He might be the first Cowboys receiver since at least 19. 91 to top 100 yards receiving in the first half of a game in which he did not start because he was presumably being disciplined. Yes, it is the Monday night preview. I'm Greg Rosenthal.
Starting point is 00:02:40 That was Brad Sham on KRLD. And that was an easy Cowboys win 33 to 16, a game that didn't really feel as close as the final score. Nick shook the Cowboys, even in a game that frankly wasn't that interested. and we're going to do some news. There was a lot of big injury news and love everyone that's joining us live on YouTube after that game. We're going to take your questions in the chat
Starting point is 00:03:07 after we do the game and some news. In a game, that wasn't that interesting, Shook. I do like that the Cowboys offense does make it interesting by benching their two receiver, CD Lamb and George Pickens for the first drive of the game and then letting them back in to completely dominate a hapless Raiders defense.
Starting point is 00:03:26 I never thought you'd be one for the main. manufactured drama. I didn't take you as a trash TV viewing type, but apparently that's where we are. Yeah. I mean, the good thing about this is that the Cowboys offense got back to looking like they were supposed to look. Like they have not looked over the last couple of games. And that alone powered them to what really was a runaway victory. It was not as close as the score, you know, indicated. And the funniest part I think about it to me is the fact that it's George Pickens, the guy who's not on the field, like you said, for that first drive. they don't really play a part in the second drive, which ends in a DAC fumble. And then after that, they just light up the Raiders defense. Pickens leads them in receiving, and he produces the best highlight of the night, which is the one that we just played right there. Yeah, the other highlights, they were almost too easy. We'll actually get to it first because it really hits on the theme that I wanted to touch on with this game.
Starting point is 00:04:19 We won't spend a ton of time on this game. But the Cowboys, we'll talk about their future because four, five, and one. A couple big games coming up against the Eagles and the Chiefs in national. windows. They have an offense, and now with Quinn and Williams, maybe a defense to compete in those games. But yeah, Pickens ends up with 144 in a touchdown on 11 target C.D. Lam, 66 yards in a touchdown and would have had a second touchdown and a 40 burger late in this game for the Cowboys, but Dak and him could not connect on a wide open fourth down call right near the goal line. Let's go to the CD Lamb touchdown because it was part of a trend of the night where it was just
Starting point is 00:04:56 preposterously easy for the Cowboys. Don't know attempts here to C.D. Lamb. Yep, you're thinking the same thing I was. He's split out wide right, fake toss right? He's looking C.D. Lamb right on cue in his own touchdown. You're thinking the same thing. He just got behind Polamow and Lonnie Johnson.
Starting point is 00:05:12 It looked like there was miscommunication. And Kirkie was running free on the right side. That is an 18-yard Prescott to Lamb touchdown just his second touchdown grab of the year. And the Cowboys nine seconds into the second up 9 to 6. great call there ahead of the play jason horowitz and kirk morrison calling it on k r lv they saw the
Starting point is 00:05:32 touchdown before it happened i was watching the manning cast for this part of the game and they were just Peyton manning was so frustrated about how obviously open cd lamb was going to be on that play and was and that was a trend throughout the first half of this game yeah it definitely was you know i just looked up some numbers because i'm thinking like in hindsight it felt like everything was easy for the cowboys in the passing game and that felt like they were soft coverage so i go look the numbers real quick. They pressed on over 20% of their defensive snaps the Raiders did. It didn't look like that at all all night. Their average target separation was under four yards. It never looked like that. It didn't look like that on that play. It didn't look like that on a number of
Starting point is 00:06:07 other plays where it just felt like the slant was always there. The quick throw was always there. The extended play and finding somebody downfield was always there. Like you said, preposterously easy and exactly what the Cowboys needed to kind of get back on track offensively. Yeah, there was another touchdown. Who was it to over the middle, Ferguson, where he just has a sit route. He sits down and there's a defensive lineman and a linebacker who are in the same area. And there's no one within 10 yards. And this is just like a fourth and short type of play over the middle. How does a guy get open by 10 yards on a fourth and short play within two seconds? They're really poorly coached defensively. You know, I'm getting texts from Jordan,
Starting point is 00:06:47 Rodriguez, obviously, and other people watching this game and just wondering about the future of this Raiders team. I would say this Raiders team, if you had to rank the offensive line and defensive line combinations and say who is the worst team in the NFL in the trenches? You know, the Bengals would be in the mix, but I think their offensive line is better, certainly. I think the Raiders, despite having Max Crosby, and yes, one of our viewers right now is saying justice for Max Crosby,
Starting point is 00:07:19 he does not deserve it. I think despite Max Crosby, they are the worst team in the NFL. they are the softest team in terms of not getting any pass rush other than Crosby, can't stop the run, can't run the ball, can't even attempt to run the ball. What is this team right now? Yeah, I agree. Max Crosby is on a complete island on both sides of the ball. You're absolutely right.
Starting point is 00:07:39 And look, I know that they haven't had Colton Miller for most of the season. So that takes away some of your strength of your offensive line. I know you lost Jackson Powers Johnson against the Broncos. You had to move Jordan Meredith over from center to guard tonight and insert an undrafted product from Clemson. Will Putnam in its center tonight. First start in his career. Everything's stacked against you. I get that.
Starting point is 00:07:59 But this is exactly what we've seen from them when they were at close to full strength without Miller for most of the season. They've just been terrible in the trenches offensively. Gino has never had really any time to throw for most of the year. Gentie, I feel so bad for him because he's getting hit behind the line of scrimmage routinely. Every week.
Starting point is 00:08:14 And no play captured their offensive lines inability to do anything really positive than when Gentie got tackled in the end zone for a safety tonight. Like, that just perfectly typified the entire season for their trench play right there. Can't do anything up front, can't get any lanes open for him. To the point where they have to abandon the run, they have to resort to checkdowns and swing passes just to get the ball in his hands because he is a playmaker.
Starting point is 00:08:37 It's an offense that has got a hand tied behind its back and it's also got a ball and chain around one of its legs. It can't get going at all because they can't do anything up front. The Gentie thing is making me crazy. In the first half of this game, and this is from Josh Dubot of a, The Associated Press, getting a lot of pop here on NFL Daily lately. The Raiders were only the third team, according to the Associated Press, to have 30 dropbacks and four or fewer runs in the first half of a game.
Starting point is 00:09:08 I think that was since 1991 or it was ever. Either way, the other two teams that had done that scored over 20 points in that first half because they were teams that are throwing the ball all over the yard and scoring a lot of points. the Raiders were doing nothing to go that pass happy in the first half of a game when you can't protect Gino Smith at all who had his customary bad interception he has one bad one every game his receivers let him down a lot it's not like he was great he's just he's just part of this entire mess but that that game plan to me I think gets to this question the Raiders have to fire everyone right and they did already fire their special teams coach by the way
Starting point is 00:09:50 last week. That slipped under the radar. I meant to mention it last week. I'm shocked that Chip Kelly is still going. And this sort of game plan, and it does make you wonder a little bit about Pete Carroll and his future. Because Mark Davis has had a quick trigger. Here's all the coaches that have coached for Mark Davis since he took over in 2011.
Starting point is 00:10:14 Hugh Jackson, Dennis Allen, Jack Del Rio, John Gruden, Josh McDaniels, Antonio Pierce, and Pete Carroll. That's only since 2012. So that's like each coach is averaging about two years in that span. So maybe Pete Carroll gets one more year. But the way this is going, there's a chance it's a one and done like Antonio Pierce essentially was with a full year one and done. Early third quarter tonight, I started thinking in my head about this exact scenario, which was who was the last coach with like a Super Bowl pedigree who got fired very quickly from his next job. And the first guy that came to mind was Mike Ditka with the Saints.
Starting point is 00:10:49 He was there for three years. He traded away his whole draft for Ricky Williams one year, which kind of tanked what they were doing. But I mean, I hate to say it, but I do think that the whole Pete Carroll experiment, the idea of bringing in somebody with, you know, experience and everything else is probably coming to an end at some point. Because what's most important about Pete Carroll teams running the football, sometimes, you know, intentionally, aggressively to the point where it may not make sense in the game, but they're still going to try to commit to the run and playing solid defense. They do neither of those things. They're poorly coached defensively. just they're not a good football team. And it's hard to find any sense of direction for them.
Starting point is 00:11:26 Like the trade for Gino was a flop because they can't protect him. They still don't have guys that can get open. Reliance on Brock Bowers, you can't even do that now to move the football. So at the end of the season, what do you say? What do you tell your fans? Oh, we're going to run it back. We just need another off season.
Starting point is 00:11:39 With a coach who's in his 70s, I don't think so. I think he's got a chance maybe to change coordinators and do it. But yeah, they're at 2 and 8 now. And even Gentie, who is a high pick. Like, he does feel like he's part of it. Like, on that play, you know, Troy Aikman noted he stopped his feet. And I've watched the Gentie game with Maurice Jones Drew, and he always gets, it goes crazy that Genties always stopping his feet, which is the last thing you want to do when you have such a bad offensive line. He had a couple drops in this game.
Starting point is 00:12:06 He also had a bad block early in this game that helped Gino Smith get hurt, hit rather, on a play. Before we move on and we will move on quickly. Shout out to Quinn and Williams. Monster first game for. the Cowboys. They get Chavon Ravelle back for the first time. He's a third round rookie. I guess he's not coming back, but he's coming back from his college injury. He's on the field for the first time. They get some of their safeties back. You know, Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson. I don't expect this defense to be good. And it's hard to say when you're only playing the Raiders. But Quinn and Williams
Starting point is 00:12:43 was playing like a man possessed tonight. And a couple sacks, a couple more quarterback hits, a couple more pressures even on top of that. And with O'Digizua and Kenny Clark, like there is something here that I'm at least curious to watch next week against better competition, the Eagles. And frankly, their offense, I mean, it is
Starting point is 00:13:04 better than the Raiders' offense, but it's not a great offense right now. I'm going to run my top four guys in QB pressure tonight for the Cowboys, okay, because it's going to be an interesting group. Odigizuo with six, including three quick pressures. Yeah. Jedevian Clowny,
Starting point is 00:13:20 with five, including two quick pressures, Quinn and Williams of five and one quick pressure, and Dante Fowler. On paper, Clowny passed his prime. Not a bad group. Like, not a terrible group. I have some reason for encouragement that over the next few weeks, as they try to claw their way back
Starting point is 00:13:38 into some sort of contention, not really for the East, but just for a playoff spot in general and what's a very difficult conference, that at least they feel, they should feel more confident about what they have up front. Now, the rest of the defense, that remains to be seen.
Starting point is 00:13:50 Duran Blaine had a really nice bounce back game after getting torched against the Cardinals. I thought that was big for them as well on the back end. But for the first time this season, I look at it and I go, okay. Like, I don't think that you're just going to get run all over. We have a comment that Quiddon Williams is no Nick Shook, though. Yeah, this is a Nick Shooka appreciation post.
Starting point is 00:14:08 I'm going to give Quiddin Williams our guy who delivered, and it is time for who delivered presented by Uber Eats because I want to just point out how different PFF can be in terms of tracking compared to next gen. For what it's worth, they have Quinn and Williams as seven pressures, and Clowny only has two. I mean, that's a pretty big gap compared to what next gen has. James Houston, by the way, also had a sack.
Starting point is 00:14:34 And I also want to give a shout out to DeMarvion overshone. I thought he delivered in his first game back. He also delivered back in training camp if you were with us. When I went to watch the Cowboys, he joined the show. and his energy and everyone around that team talked about him as a real deal leader and a guy who was really dynamic on the field when he was healthy in his second year.
Starting point is 00:15:00 He had an ACL injury, his first year, another serious injury last year. So he is making it back from a long injury. He played about 30 snaps tonight. PFF graded him out as pretty high. And he's just someone to watch. So there's at least something here. This Cowboys team, I got my doubts.
Starting point is 00:15:17 with the kind of schedule that they have, Eagles, Chiefs, and I think they have the lions after that. You know, you're very likely to lose two of those three games. Like it would feel like an accomplishment if you even won one of them. And yet I at least I'm holding out a little space in my head to say that this offense, this quarterback is good enough and their defense is now a little different. Coming off the by, just that they could be a first. Just that they can be frisky team.
Starting point is 00:15:49 Okay, I was going to win even two of those games and like be in the race. It's going to be a tough spot to get to the wild card. We have a commenter saying, it looks like a team built to lose in the wild card. I don't know about that. But let's say this. I took the over on eight wins for the season before I knew they traded Parsons. I'm not totally giving up on that. I'm not totally giving up on that.
Starting point is 00:16:12 You know, we've got some commanders. We've got some giants in there. There's not many easy games. but um just saying make it threatened if they get i mean they get vikings chargers commanders giants your last four that's it would be really hard to bounce back from losing the next three eagles chiefs lines that would be difficult but i mean if that's all your interest is in is making sure that you're you're over under pick hits which i know you and i know that you're very interested in that you're very invested in that then that's enough for me to sign up and keep track thank you um yes that is
Starting point is 00:16:41 quinn and william so i'm trusted pff here two sacks three quarterback hits on top of that, and two hurries. Yes, that was Who Delivered, presented by Uber Eats. When Football Makes You Hungry, Get Game Day deals on Uber Eats, the official on-demand delivery partner of the NFL order now. So what we're going to do, and we appreciate everyone in the chat right now, and no, Quinn and Williams will not be delivering any Uber Eats. If you order, you know, he has to enjoy the post game and get ready on a short week for the Eagles.
Starting point is 00:17:12 We're going to do some news, and then we're going to take some questions for a little bit in the chat. Hey, what's up, everybody? Daniel Jeremiah here. And I'm Bucky Brooks. If you love breaking down football from every angle, you're in the right place. Every week on Move the 6th,
Starting point is 00:17:28 Bucke Brooks and I dive deep into the game from the X's and O's to the front office moves shaping the league. We kick things off with Brian Baudinger, breaking down what really went down on Sunday. It is as good a timing rhythm offense as there is in the league right now. Then Rhett Lewis joins us for our rookie draft.
Starting point is 00:17:45 and coordinator of the week, where we highlight the rising stars and the masterminds calling the shots. DJ talked me into Arronday Gadsden Jr. He had a monster game. I just want to remind everyone how good Rishi Rice was last season. And there's three healthy games. He was the wide receiver 2 in fantasy. I think Rishie Rice just goes off this week.
Starting point is 00:18:52 The Chiefs come on a flip pass to Rice. This side, touchdown! Remandre Stevens is my sleeper this week. This is a matchup where I think I can slide in Stevenson into my flex position and he could deliver double-digit points this week. Drake takes the snap, hands it off. Remodry running it right and running into the end zone. Touchdown!

Starting point is 00:20:04 He suffered a knee injury shook. It is the left knee, not the knee that was twice surgically repaired in college with ACL injuries that ended season. college. So it's a different knee. It could possibly require reconstructive surgery, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rappaport. At this point, they're looking at further tests to see if that is necessary. But either way, Rahim Morris admitted, if he's going on injured reserve, there's a pretty big risk he's missing the rest of the season. And from the sound of it, we are fearing that it's going to be a long recovery. What? what do you think about kind of where the falcons in pennics specifically are at and where
Starting point is 00:20:49 let's say he does have a torn ACL where kind of this leaves him i mean it's been a very rocky second season for him uh it's been up and down you know running back that falcons panthers game today i felt like once bejean wasn't getting chunks on the ground everything was a little bit more difficult for them offensively but i did like what i saw from him it's just been very inconsistent we kind of discussed this when we were redraft in the quarterback class and Maybe we got a little out over our skis too much when figuring out that second tier because I still feel like he's got it in him. It's just that the accuracy has not been reliable.
Starting point is 00:21:23 And I also really wonder if this offense is tailored toward him. Like I don't think it really suits him well, whether it's the reliance on the pistol and a number of other different things. It just feels like he's kind of having to overcome some things systematically that like scheme-wise that just don't fit him. But I don't think that this really threatens their long-term outlook. It's just the fact that you wonder about his road to recovery. It is good news that it's not the same knee, given his history, his lengthy history to Indiana before he ended up in Washington. But it's never news that you want to get.
Starting point is 00:21:55 At this point, they're fortunate. They have to be feeling fortunate that they still have Kirk Cousins on the roster. Now, of course, they have a lower ceiling. They have a lower ceiling offensively. You saw that in that game against the Panthers, but at least they have somebody to turn to. It's been a disappointing season for the Falcons overall, and this is the most disappointing news of all,
Starting point is 00:22:10 but I don't know if it necessarily threatens his long-term outlook. It's just, it sucks to hear, you know, at this point in the season. Almost as bad as my mouse dying right now also sucks. And since this is live, you're going to see me lean over for a second to get a chord. Okay, you know, no one would notice. You know, most people are listening, but we appreciate the diehards that we're going to take some questions from in a minute. Penix struggled, but the numbers would say he wasn't as bad as kind of the
Starting point is 00:22:38 eye test would say. And so I went through some numbers for this season. First of all, his numbers are pretty similar to that four game span that he had a year ago, which we were impressed by. But PFF had him graded as the 36th best quarterback out of 41 in terms of their qualifiers. And that is a little closer to where I had them. 17th in QBR, 24th in EPA per dropback. This is out of 34 qualifier. So in the middle of QBR, 16th in success rate, 32nd out of 34 in third and long. And that is one of the stats I look at and a really bad like big time throw to turnover worthy play percentage. So add that all up in that profile tells me he's taking a lot of checkdowns. He's hitting a lot of like five and six yard passes. He's not having a
Starting point is 00:23:32 lot of wow plays. He's not having a lot of big plays. I did think Sunday was one of his best games of the season. He only finished about two and a half, three quarters, but he looked good, went over the middle of the field. Like he was having a clean game. I think he was testing the middle of the field a little more over the last couple weeks. Ultimately, you're right. Like, he didn't fit in this system and the system won't be there next year. Like, Zach Robinson is, he's just not going to be back as their offensive coordinator. I don't know if Rahim Morris is going to be back. I don't know if Terry Fontenough, the GM is going to be back. You're three and seven in a year that you kind of went all in,
Starting point is 00:24:06 and everything is possibly on the table. And I think this move shook where we move on from PennX, kind of points out like, oh, yeah, Kirk Cousins is on the roster with a $40 million cap hit and is going to charge 30-something to get rid of next year in dead cap money. And he's not even a good backup right now. And like we see with a lot of these quarterbacks, It might be someone else's regime that ends up inheriting Pennex and see where this goes.
Starting point is 00:24:34 And if he's coming back from an injury, it's a tricky situation, you know what I mean, where they're going to have to have someone who might be ready to handle the offseason program because I don't think Kirk Cousins is going to be that guy. Yeah, you're right. And I think that anytime there's a regime change, too, that you're entering uncertain waters because you don't know if the next person that they hire, the next leadership group that they hire even once, you know, Michael Pennix, they probably won't want Kirk Cousins, especially at that number, anytime you make a sweeping change like that,
Starting point is 00:25:02 you are preparing for things to get torn down. And that could include your quarterback, which is what throws everything into a place of uncertainty. So I think that's right. And you're right. They did kind of go all in and they haven't produced, so it feels like we're headed in that direction. And yet I think when you take the job,
Starting point is 00:25:20 and you look at the full landscape of what this team has, you see former first round pick quarterback played two Cs. seasons, showed some promising things, was inconsistent. Maybe it is just a lack of system fit. Maybe we can make something out of them. You know that a lot of these leaders, they come there with, they get to where they are in their jobs by a bit of ego, right? In my ego, I can make something out of this guy. So I'm not saying it's the end for him, but there are going to, if they do make those changes, there are going to be more changes than just that, especially in the offensive side, because this is a group that if you look at it on paper, has enough
Starting point is 00:25:54 talent to be better than it is, and it just hasn't been that good. Yeah, they have a profile of a five and five team that's had some bad luck to be honest i don't think you're that bad of a team certainly like a four and six team and yeah thank you to brad for uh asking everyone to smash that like button we are loving seeing the uh subscriber numbers going up lately so also subscribe i i look at this falcons team and you just remember that look if pennix was coming off this injury and they could even consider taking another first round quarterback it's not that crazy. Oh, but they don't have their first round pick. They gave it to the Rams for James Pierce. And I just think back to our training camp interview with J.B. Long, the play-by-play
Starting point is 00:26:40 announcer for the Rams, who kind of laid out this scenario that there's going to be a lot of people in Los Angeles watching this Falcons team. They kind of bet against this Falcons team a little bit. And that bet is looking pretty good right now. A couple more items of news before we take your question. Jamar Chase, we mentioned that we thought he would be suspended after spitting on Jalen Ramsey. He was indeed suspended for one game. Man, that is costing him a lot of money when you think about his base salary. That is an enormous payment for him to give up a weekly check, which is one out of 18 checks you get all season.
Starting point is 00:27:21 The New England Patriots shook continued to get great schedule luck. Even when they play, like the Joe Flacco Bengals, they get a little more luck this week because Jamar Chase will not be out there for Cincinnati. Yeah, I mean, look, it would have been a good test to the Patriots defense. Like, we don't really know what they necessarily have. But I look at it from the Bengals perspective.
Starting point is 00:27:41 It's like, well, how are you going to keep up with Drake May when your defense can't really stop a nosebleed in most games saved for last week if you have lost your best pass catcher? Like, it's just going to become that much more difficult for them. So, yeah, a big loss at a bad time, but that's kind of the way the season has gone from the best. I mean, their season is over. Trey Hendrickson is not expected to play this week,
Starting point is 00:27:59 according to their head coach, Zach Taylor, either. They turned, if they weren't before week 11, they're a cross-off. Lane Johnson is certainly not a cross-off for this season, but the regular season, we're not going to see him much more of the future Hall of Fame. We're out four to six weeks with a Liz Frank sprain. So look, the Cowboys, pass rush is looking better. No lane Johnson.
Starting point is 00:28:27 I mean, the Eagles, 20 points seems like a mountain that they cannot climb lately. I mean, we just did a game a week ago, shook in this spot where they scored all of 10 points in their win. They scored 16 on Sunday night. It's a much easier matchup against the Cowboys, but no lane Johnson changes things quite a bit for this team. So are you telling me that Jadabian Clowney's going to end up with a lot of pressures again? Dante Fowler, is that what's going to happen here? I mean, look, I'm all for intrigue. I'm all for intrigue in that game, and you are right about the Eagles offense.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Like, it is a cause for concern. It's good. Actually, that's a really good matchup if you think about it. Like, the Eagles defense playing lights out against the Cowboys team that's still very offense heavy. It could be a good one. Yeah, and when the Cowboys have the ball, I think it's a good test for both. You know, the Cowboys struggled a couple weeks coming into the buy, but this Eagles
Starting point is 00:29:15 defense looks like it could be the best in the league. Again, I would still take the Seahawks, but the Eagles defense is certainly in that equation and that the Cowboys are a great test. They move the ball pretty well on them in week one. They were not in the same shape that they are in right now, but that was a game. The Cowboys certainly could have won. They did not. A couple other injury items, Josh Jacobs is week to week with a knee injury.
Starting point is 00:29:38 Sounds like there's a chance he could play this week against the Vikings. We'll see Milton Williams, the great free agent pickup for the Patriots, is on injured reserve. That happened over the weekend. They didn't play over the weekend, so we had not hit that news. That is a big loss for them. One thing I've been worried about as a Patriots fan, I think they're about as thin at top-heavy as just about any team in the league
Starting point is 00:30:02 at almost every position, including the defensive line. And they have had maybe the best injury luck in the entire season, along with schedule luck. They've been missing almost no players. Them and the Rams are two of the best teams that have been missing very few players. And so that injury luck bounces back on them, and Millie Williams is going to be out for at least a month with an ankle injury. which is bad news for them. Tyrod Taylor is going to start in week 12 for the New York Jets.
Starting point is 00:30:30 And then just our thoughts go out to their player, Chris Boyd, who was shot over the weekend and underwent multiple surgeries. He's in critical but stable condition with the Jets. So just our best thoughts out to him. We thought it'd be fun, changing gears, that if you had the love to be like a real, Shookster. I'm trying to think of a nickname who would stay up for Monday night NFL daily live streams. Do you got anything for us? Okay. I mean, I mean, I'm not thinking like claymates. Is that what we got excited about? We haven't really leaned into the claymates enough. I was I was more of a Clay Bon vivant's guy or the Clay Bonbons, but either way, I keep forgetting to mention that's when, if I'm self-scouting, Shook, one, I talk too much. Two, you know,
Starting point is 00:31:21 just keeps going on. Two, I come up with bits and then I forget about them and never go back to them. So that's a problem. So the callback connection, the efforts on the callbacks has to be a little bit. Not as great. So I'm asking the listeners now, we need a name for just regular NFL daily listeners. Like what would their, what would their names be? The Dania, the Daniacs, but daily, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:31:49 I'm saying put it in the chat. Let's take some questions. The first one, let's go. Which coordinator do you think could be a head coach next year? Hearing buzz about Jeff Halfley. Okay. That is certainly one. I mean, let's think about why Jeff Halfley ended up with the Packers,
Starting point is 00:32:08 which is that he was bailing out of Boston College in a year in which he was probably going to get fired as their head coach. I'll forget that. Okay, but that was a tough situation. No one can win at Boston College. Bill O'Brien just got a big job. Not a good year, but got a big dub. Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Like, I might do this as an entire show coming up on the NFL daily feed. It's funny because a lot of the hot coordinators from a year ago are not hot anymore. Is Jesse Minter like a big time candidate? I'm not so sure. Is Joe Brady as hot as he used to be? Like, I don't really think so. Could Cliff Kingsbury get some looks? No.
Starting point is 00:32:52 No, I mean, I don't know. I mean, maybe if we're going retreads, I guess that's one of your leaders in the retread department. We are in a weird spot when it comes to that if you think about it. Steve Spagnolo, I actually think might get a look with the Giants or maybe, maybe elsewhere. Vance Joseph, maybe with the Broncos at some point could get another chance. He did not have a great, you know, first time around, but you never know. You got anyone? I mean, I'm looking at teams right now, just trying to think, like,
Starting point is 00:33:23 who would be a possibility here? Because we have a lot of new coaches that came from the coordinator spot, and we don't really have the up-and-coming. I mean, you could always do the Tampa Bay pipeline. Like, Josh Grisard gets the head coaching job somewhere because Baker had a good season. Just make it three in a row. Dave Canales, Liam Cohen, Josh Grasard.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Why not? No, but that's a joke. I think we are in a kind of a weird spot because of, I mean, I guess this is pretty normal. When you get coordinators who become head coaches, is you have a hard time picking, you know, there's like the next crop is not always a strong. So I guess the Halfley one's not bad.
Starting point is 00:33:55 I still feel like Joe Brady is going to end up gaining some steam for a team that's desperate to become an offensive team. Like it, even if that product has not been consistent this year, he does, he's at that age now where you start to seriously consider him. He's no longer like the Golden Boy coordinator who came from the Saints in LSU. Like now he's,
Starting point is 00:34:14 he's been around long enough that he could get some serious traction. But the bills have to finish stronger. and more consistently offensively than they have saved for last week. Chris Shula was brought up by Jay Glazer, the defensive coordinator for the Rams, I think is going to probably get some interviews in this cycle. Mike McCarthy could be around. Matt Nagy could be around.
Starting point is 00:34:35 Lou Anarumo, like, who knows? Doesn't feel like there's a lot of, like, hot young candidates. I have a question. When is the NFL going to flex bad primetime games? Great question. we got the commanders on Sunday night football in two weeks and they didn't flex them out they kept them Broncos commanders what are we doing here we haven't had any remember the whole controversy that oh we can flex Monday night games or Thursday night games did they say they could flex Thursday night game no Monday night games you're putting on what is that hat this is an NFL hat right here that is National Football League oh you're not going to criticize hat no I'm just playing around No, I mean, if you love the NFL, you want to see great games in primetime. We're going to have Marcus Marriota in primetime again?
Starting point is 00:35:22 What are we doing? I just watched Marcus Marietta throw a crushing interception in Madrid to lose the game. No, of course, I don't want to see that. But I also understand that networks can battle for things like this. Let's flex out every bad remaining primetime game. But we also have to remember that the Cowboys are in a bunch of prime time slots. And thank God they won in commanding fashion tonight because if they didn't, we'd be complaining about their upcoming dates.
Starting point is 00:35:42 Yeah, but at least they have Doc Prescott and Citi Lamb. and they're a competitive team. We've been having too many dead teams in these prime time games. We got the Giants against the Patriots next Monday night. And the Monday night flex is tough because you got to look ahead, I think, with like a month notice to make that change. But we can Sunday night flex. It haven't seen it.
Starting point is 00:36:06 And that commander's one, I did go look at the schedule that week and thought, okay, what's the game that they would flex into it? And there are reasons you might not be able to, like Panthers, Rams wouldn't have been bad, but are the Rams already at their prime time pop? Yeah, we got a comment that you are the employee of the month. I mean, you are a kissing.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Have you no shame? The NFL hat. It's a joke. I'm just playing into it. I'm leaning in. Let me lean in for once. All right. So who are you flexing out?
Starting point is 00:36:36 Broncos commanders, who are you going to flex in from that week? Let's just go right off the rip now because I'm looking at that schedule. And let's see, Bears Eagles is the blind. Black Friday game, for example. What else would we going to do? Bill Steelers from 425 to 820. I guess that's better. That one probably is protected.
Starting point is 00:36:55 There are a lot of different rules. And now you see why I'm wearing the Roblo hat. Here's the game. Here's the game. Colts Texans. All I just want is just a competitive game. I know it's not an amazing game, but it has meaning it could be the Colts essentially winning the division.
Starting point is 00:37:09 It could be the Texans making a big comeback in the division. Either way, they matter. Just give me a game that matter. Like, it's a low bar. When I saw 49ers Panthers is coming up on Monday night. I was like, okay, fine. Like, not great teams, but they both have winning records. The game matters.
Starting point is 00:37:27 I mean, commanders, Commanders, Boenicks, get me out of here. How do you feel about Texans chiefs week 14 Sunday night? That's great. I like you. You cool with that? Okay. I'm totally fine. By the way, they're in primetime Thursday night.
Starting point is 00:37:42 We got a new lineup this week. I'm out on Thursday night. My daughter Ellis, big concert, I got to be there. She's in the orchestra. Got to do dad mode. Jordan Rodriguez and Nick Shook are handling Texans bills. And yes, there was a question, will there ever be a good primetime game again? It's happening Thursday night because you know who you look to as a slump buster?
Starting point is 00:38:06 The NFL gets on the bat phone. They're like, we have not had a good primetime game in so long. Who should we call? and they said, Davis Mills. Davis Mills is our choice. Respect the neck. You know what? Davis Mills has about five throws every game,
Starting point is 00:38:22 which is like, hey, I got a hand it to you. Davis Mills, he has not been a problem for them. Maybe they can show up in that Bill's game. I think it could be a good game. Yeah, I mean, that Jaguars game, he powered that comeback. And he made some really great throws in that game. And that's not because I'm wearing the Roblo hat right now.
Starting point is 00:38:41 It's because he really did play it well. So I can sell him on that. I can definitely say, and you know what? I like the idea of the Texans playing the home, spoiler to the Bills on Thursday night. On a short week after the Bills just played a shootout against the Buccaneers. Why not?
Starting point is 00:38:54 Let's do it. I'm cool with that. I am not cool with a few weeks from now when we go to the Sunday night slate. And I believe it's Bengals Dolphins in Miami. That one, not looking good. That one's out. Unless Joe Burroughs back. Unless Joe Burroughs back, then they might flex.
Starting point is 00:39:11 No. They might keep it. That's flex. I would almost guarantee that that is happening. Yes, a viewer is sticking his neck out for Davis Mills. Also, I would like to note this real quick on your dad mode. The D and NFL Daily actually stands for dad, just so you know. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:30 And you're the one of the personified. How about NFL Daily fans are the Daily Gallery? Not bad. I think we can do better, but I like it. There was a question, are the Bears really going to win? The North, shook, I'll let you start. The Chicago Bears are the number three seed currently in the NFC. The Detroit Lions, by the way, are not in the playoffs as of today.
Starting point is 00:39:55 They are the eight seed behind the 49ers who are seven, Green Bay, six, and, yeah, Seattle would have the other wild card right now. The Bears are leading the North. What do you think? Yes, let's consider where the Packers are in the standing. Look, if you look at the Bears remaining schedule, you got the dealers, you got at the Eagles, at the Packers, you'll beat the Browns. You got the Packers again. You got the Niners and the Lions. That ends your season. That is a tough slate. That is not
Starting point is 00:40:20 the slate that included the Raiders, commanders, and saints earlier in this season, all wins for you. So while I enjoy watching the Bears, and I like them almost giving away a game that they should have won in Minnesota before coming back to win it at the end, because it's thrilling. And I like watching Caleb Williams in crunch time. That's all great. I think that they are going to come back to Earth here in the next month because those are some really tough matchups. Those are some defenses that are going to complicate the picture for Caleb Williams and take away some of what Ben Johnson has done really well
Starting point is 00:40:47 in terms of scheme, but Pittsburgh, Philly, Green Bay, three defenses that are going to cause them some problems. So I think that by the time you get into mid December, you're looking at, you're still above 500, but it's been a bit of a bumpy road. So no, they're not going to win the north. I don't think so either.
Starting point is 00:41:04 But I feel differently about them, this should go without saying that I did a month ago. And they're winning these close games, but I think that Caleb Williams is now at the point where he's not hurting them at all. Like, he is adding something to them. And he's not making mistakes and the rest of the team around him in terms of the scheme and the running game and the talent. And just the kind of greater than the sum of their parts is really doing something. So, yeah, that's a dangerous game against Pittsburgh, but it's a dangerous game for the Steelers.
Starting point is 00:41:38 It's kind of a bummer that Rodgers, you know, Aaron Rogers might not be playing that game. Just considering the history between Rogers and the Bears over the years. I think the Bears would love to get a chance to finally beat him. And if they couldn't beat him now, it would just, either way, it would be great theater. We don't know that he's out. Then we get the Bears Eagles on Black Friday. That's not a primetime game, but that is an island window game.
Starting point is 00:42:03 The Thanksgiving slate is pretty great. Like, I like Cowboys Chiefs. The Packers Lions is one of the biggest games we've had on Thanksgiving, I think, for years because, man, two teams with Super Bowl aspirations who are just scratching and clawing trying to win that division. That's a huge one. So it's a really good slate there at Bears Eagles. And we're going to be doing a show, by the way, after Bears Eagles, our NFL Daily schedule, a little different this year. And so we'll be doing a show recapping all the Thanksgiving games and the Bears Eagles game on that Friday. the Devo Tees is another suggestion as a...
Starting point is 00:42:44 Okay, I can get with that. That rolls off the tongue a little bit more, a little bit better. Let's go with at least one more question here. What's more likely Chargers get Omari and Hampton back and go on a run, or the O line gets Herbert so banged up, they fall out of the playoffs entirely? Oh, let me answer this. It's the latter, and it's not because I don't think that they're good enough to make the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:43:05 I just see how this offensive line struggles have completely, undercut their offense. Like, it is such a struggle for them to do anything in the passing game. And you already know if your offensive lines banged up, you're probably not running the ball well. So getting O'Marion Hampton back is kind of moot to me because if you're not going to protect well and you're not going to open up running lanes, it's really not going to matter. It's kind of criminal to see how they don't protect for Justin Herbert. And especially because we just had a couple of weeks ago, an example of how one guy, Joe Aldett left tackle, can shore up everything so much that you can just light up an opposing defense.
Starting point is 00:43:37 And suddenly that's gone. for a painful watch for them. That Jacksonville game was painful to watch. Like we talked about a later game, basically being the indication, I think it was a Sunday night game of we give up. The Lions just we give up. Like we quit.
Starting point is 00:43:51 It's cold, right? Trey Lance coming in with like four minutes left in the game is also like the human white flag. It was like 10 minutes or something. Yes. Like you already knew at that point. And Jim Harbaugh is just staying on the sideline, like looking up into the sun and Jacksonville
Starting point is 00:44:05 with that same like confused grimace on his face. as if, like, he just could not figure out what was going wrong. I can tell you what's going wrong. They don't block for him. They don't block for him, and you can't do anything offensively. So I think the latter is probably more likely. I would hate to see them fall out of the race entirely, but I don't like what I'm seeing from their offense right now.
Starting point is 00:44:24 I think the latter is more likely. They've got, I don't think either is going to happen. I think they'll make the playoffs in a similar fashion to, you know, how they did when they got blown out by the Texans in last year in year one, Charger under Harbaugh. I give them a better chance to go further this year because I think Herbert's playing even better. But a team that gets destroyed in the way that they have like multiple times and then
Starting point is 00:44:50 every time they go to the East Coast, they just don't show up. They're like, they fall behind against Tennessee. They barely win against Miami. They lose against the Giants. They've been great. It's been a bizarro Chargers season. You know where they've been great? Big primetime games and like their biggest games.
Starting point is 00:45:07 of the season. They've played great. That's why I don't count them out. I think Amarian Hampton will help them quite a bit, but it's the offensive line. That's a problem. There's a question still think Kansas City makes the playoffs. Yes, I think that's an easy one. I sit back and I look at that record and I watch all the morning talk shows being like, the Chiefs, they're five and five. Oh my God. You know, the sky is falling. And I'm like, we still can't. I don't care. Like, yeah, it's November. I still don't care. I have seen this story. too many times to take the bait that this is the end of the chiefs until they're out, they're in.
Starting point is 00:45:44 Just take it as fact. I hear you, but every loss makes it a little trickier. And I do think because of the Jaguars schedule specifically and the Ravens coming up and the fact that I'm not totally counting out the Texans, although their schedule is tough, that they could keep winning the Chiefs and they could still be getting put into must-win games against pretty good teams late in the season. So it's just going to make for a fun stretch run. Final question here.
Starting point is 00:46:13 And yeah, we got another suggestion, The Daily Gang, not a bad one. I like that, The Daily Gang. Did Sam Darnel throw away any MVP case that could have been made this week?
Starting point is 00:46:25 I don't know if there was really much of a case to be made. Oh, come on. I thought he had it through, like, you know, if you had a first half MVP. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:46:34 The guy who hates early season MVP, rankings is going to make this idea. I don't like it. We gave a first half MVP and I just thought for the first half, he had a decent case when he looked at all the numbers. But in the last two weeks alone, he has five interceptions and two fumbles. Yeah. The only thing I would say is, and you could say this for almost anyone on a good team that plays quarterback, look, if he goes like 24 touchdowns, like one interception, the rest of the way and they have the like number one offense, you know, scoring 30 points a game in the league, then like, yeah, then he makes his case because from what happens now matters more. That's not going to happen. That's true. And 24 touchdowns
Starting point is 00:47:15 and one interception would be an absurd stat line. And at that point, you have to throw him in the conversation. That's what I mean. I just don't think that's going to happen because I, and I hate to be this guy, but he does continue to prove himself as somebody who crumbles in big games. Like, he just does. And that, that Ram Seahawks game was great for the defensive battle. And the struggles that, that each side had offensively. Matthew Stafford wasn't fantastic in that game he made some good throws but he wasn't fantastic in that game but the the fashion in which sam threw away possession just trying to do too much if he finds himself in bigger games or as big of games and he's in under pressure in similar situations and he continues to make those mistakes it's just
Starting point is 00:47:49 going to the MVP cases evaporate if it hasn't already um yeah it's probably pretty gone yeah it's gone you know um we did it tonight you said it was a great defensive struggle this was like the show equivalent of a defensive struggle. You know, we took some weird ingredients and we mixed it up and we made maybe not the most delicious meal that we've made all season, but something you're like, oh, actually that was pretty good. Maybe we'll do more mail bags on Monday night. What do you think, Shook?
Starting point is 00:48:21 I mean, even the mystery meat souffle at lunch was good sometimes in elementary school. That was Nick Shook wearing his NFL hat. we will be back, big show on Tuesday.
