This is an I-Heart podcast.
The Around the NFL podcast has unlimited faith in Russell Wilson's comeback.
From the Chris Wesleying podcast studio, it's around the NFL.
Dan Hans is here, Greg Rosenthal, Mark Sessler, Colleen Wolf Wednesday.
And I just have to say it, like right off the bat.
I must, we must declare vengeance upon the NFL establishment if they dare to do that again,
where we finish a show taping and then major news breaks.
I feel like we have been marked very open with the football cognizant about drop this stuff when we're in our taping window or before.
but do not drop it immediately after
and then we're just all annoyed
texting each other minutes after we leave the studio
so Russell Wilson no longer
connected to the Denver Broncos
who eat unprecedented
dead cap money
and we could talk about it now
but I just want to say vengeance
declared if it happens again moving forward
I couldn't agree more I would imagine
Greg agrees we've been crystal clear
about our boundaries
and they were broken on that day
I had just reached
a Mexican restaurant
for my post
show meal and had
just sat down and made my order
and then it's like we're talking about
do we want to get together
and do an emergency news topper
which is like I would get why we would do that
we've done it in the past but it's like
how disruptive how disorienting
and it's really the fault of the league
what's the order for Marketta?
I didn't know you eat
I do I ordered a like a
vegetarian
burrito with chips and salsa
but then it's like I was like
you got caught
in a lie there
and now you're making up a food
no, no, no, it's not, but like,
I almost had, I considered to tell the server,
like, I might have to put the kibosh on this.
I hate this for you.
The one time you're going to enjoy food,
it gets blown up in your face.
It seems of fate.
Well, Russ has never forgiven me for predicting
in his downfall,
roughly halfway through the 2021 season in Seattle.
Limited.
Mistakenly,
perhaps limited.
Saying I would take Mack Jones long,
term over him right church wrong pew there with that take like i almost just got a little too
specific yeah otherwise dead on that's there's a little bit of uh nick full super bowl similarities
there that you you kind of hammered it but then added a little extra yeah and it cost you that
that cost you mark that sandwiches and sean payton you know we've we've called out his um his manipulation
of the media on this show over the years how often he's very critical of the media when he is the
giving all the sources.
So I think he waited for a show to end.
He's like, Eric's not going to get upstairs for about 20 minutes.
The guys are going to, they'll be in their cars.
Mark will hit the Mexican restaurant around this time.
Okay, let's drop it.
Let's drop it.
Let's drop it.
Colleen, yes.
85 million, let's just talk about this now.
85 million hit dead money over the next two seasons for the Broncos because of the
release.
So in a lot of ways, Connie, it's almost like a five-year mistake.
I feel like for the Broncos because unless they,
Something magical happens with at the quarterback position or the roster, you know, all of a sudden turns into a juggernaud and they have massive dress. Even then it's almost, do you admit, do you just eat the poop this year? Absorb as much as that as possible, kind of tank and then try to start fresh and too. It's kind of you're on a two year plan from here.
Well, this may go down as one of the worst trades we've ever seen. It's, I mean, but Deshawn Watson, like I don't know. That one's pretty bad too. They kind of.
Sure, but we said one of.
It's up there.
It's in the top five.
The trophy stand or the metal stand and you could debate the order.
Herschel Walker, this trade, and the Sean's there.
We're going to talk about Jamal Adams a little bit later.
Yep.
But go ahead.
No, this is the two-year anniversary just passed of when this happened.
And you think about all of the quarterbacks that Denver has tried to bring in.
None of them worked.
And then they give away so much to first round.
picks, two second round picks, a fifth,
a bunch of players, too.
I mean, and then what did they get in return?
Russell Wilson, and then the fourth rounder
that became defensive end
Ozuari, Azurike,
is that you say his name?
Who's suspended right now for violating
the gambling policy, so he's not even
available. And the fact that the Denver
Broncos paid Russell Wilson
before they even had to do so.
They went ahead and gave him
that extension with all of the guarantee.
tees doubling down on Russell Wilson just for it to blow up in such a spectacular way in their
face. I just can't believe that this is the way that the story ended. Do you know when that extension
starts? Not even yet. This year. Oh my God. That's the most, that's the craziest part. It's
it's, it's wild and there's a thought. There's some revisionist history. It's like, well, but he wanted
the contract and that was part of the reason. And I don't believe it because the trade happened in
March. There's an ownership change happening. It was
new owner syndrome. The new owners
showed up who actually had nothing
to do with the Russell Wilson trade. And one of the first
things they did to just be like, hey,
we're Walmart, we got lots of money, we're
classy, we're going to give him our
star player what he wants.
So I don't even buy that you needed to give
him that money. And yeah,
it would have been worth it for the Seahawks just for that
moment where Drew Locke like sent
the hearts to Gino or whatever that was on the
sideline, because don't forget Drew Locke was in this trade
for Seattle. Not only did they get rid
of Russ. They got their starting tackle, Charles
cross they got a defensive rookie of the year candidate devon witherspoon they got boy
mafay who's a nice edge a couple other young players that are playing for them and uh in that
moment i would spin positive in one in one way well that's that full well because it's it's they kind
reminded me and this is a bit of a um an odd parallel but like when george bush like decided we're
going to go into iraq and like it became a cluster right w w yeah yeah the younger of the two and
like um where you're going with this well no just because it was very
clear to like most thinking
people that we were creating
an unnecessary problem
and it was like at some point you can spin out
of this and just look it I'm the president
I made a mistake on some level let's just
get out of here and move forward as a country
and instead it was like I'm going to get in further and further and further
and further see I thought you were going down the road of
putting up the mission accomplished sign on a battleship
that was the that was sort of Nathaniel Hackett's press conference
right in a lot of ways
Walmart came in big bucks very excited
Separation can make a huge mistake and just eat the money and move on.
And the big banks, they can get bailed out and they just move forward.
It's not the same with an NFL team in the way the salary cap is structured.
So that's why this is so devastating.
I have a buddy in the town I live in that's a massive Broncos fan named a son Denver drives around a orange golf cart.
I mean, we're talking big time.
And he told me that he can't believe he doesn't have a Ford Bronco.
Like that feels like a missed opportunity.
Missed opportunity.
He, uh, he was.
He said he had to go on a bender after the announcement because...
Oh, no.
This announcement?
Yes, because he knew, because he knows this team that he loves is going to have to pay for this for years to come.
It's like a, it's a tough one.
Can we check on your friend?
Should we check on him?
I saw him yesterday.
Okay.
He said he was okay.
Now, the way, you know, just...
Long goes orange.
Let's ride.
Hold on.
Let me just finish one thing because I actually think that what I do like about this very quickly is that Denver is not sticking around for more Russell Wilson.
Listen, it's going to hurt this year.
I kind of like your idea of just doing it all this year, if you could.
You can't.
As much as possible.
You could spread it over two or three years.
So I'm with you.
You don't need to do a post-June first cut.
Take as much as you can this year.
There'll be more, but much less, less next year.
Mark, I want you to finish your point.
But can you take more pain this year as opposed to the next year?
I'm saying what if it's split 50-50, it is what it is.
But just absorb it all.
It's another year in the middle of Patrick Mahomes' prime.
Go ahead.
Yeah.
I would just say that, like, I know that's a huge arrow down on Russell Wilson, where he is right now.
And it's like, it's kind of incomprehensible that the Steelers or just someone else are going to sign up for this journey.
But Russell Wilson historically has been one of the better quarterbacks we've ever covered on this show and won a Super Bowl.
Sean Payton, whether you like him or not or how he deals with the media, is a winning coach with a track record and a Super Bowl win.
George Payton is the guy still hanging around inside this organization who conceived of this trade largely.
Did he?
Well, yeah, largely because it was before they, I mean, then they, then he went and thought of all the candidates I could hire as head coach, Nathaniel Hackett sticks out.
And it's like, GMs don't survive this type of apocalypse and he's still hanging around.
They don't keep their power.
I don't think he has power there anymore.
But he's there.
Yeah, he's still hanging around.
I sort of forgot that.
He's the one guy that stands out here.
I sort of forgot that.
Before the trade was made, when Russell Wilson was still in Seattle, it was like people were talking about him as a Hall of Fame quarterback.
He had won Super Bowls.
They were a perennial contender.
Exactly.
You were first on the scene, Greg.
Not first.
And I think, well, I think he has a chance to make the Hall of Fame.
People are a little too dismissive of what he accomplished.
They're like what he is now doesn't discount what he accomplished his first eight or nine years.
But that's a separate point.
Yeah.
Like, I mean, I like there's, I saw this tweet out there saying like of these four who would make the Hall of Fame.
Who would you put in if you could only choose one?
Russell Wilson, Phil Rivers, Eli and Matt Ryan, who are all going to be.
be interesting cases.
That's not an interesting case.
It's a Giants all-time passing leader
with two Super Bowl wins over Belichick and Brady,
including beating the undefeated team.
Everyone looks at it.
Everyone looks at things differently.
I look at the regular seasons as like,
how many times were you a top five quarterback?
How many times were you top top 10 quarterback?
Eli Manning, we don't need to get into him,
but he probably had one season where maybe he could be a top five,
maybe two or three seasons where he'd be top ten.
Russell Wilson was a top five to ten.
for seven or eight straight years, which to me with the Super Bowl title,
he might actually have the best case of all those.
I'd probably go.
You put Russ in?
I would put Phil Rivers first on that, and Russ would probably be second, yeah.
He was also, and I'm looking at a write-up right now where the second season,
said two disastrous seasons in Denver.
The first season was a true disaster with Hackett.
Last year was a middling season, wrong side of the Dalton scale,
but not the worst quarterback in the league.
And they, at that point with Peyton now fully, not Patton,
Peyton, although he is pronounced Peyton.
other reason we got to get. Oh, we gave him a new name.
Kevin? It's Kevin. Kevin Sutherland, was it?
I believe it was close to that. Eric, you remember?
or Donald. See, for this exact reason,
we don't need to lose momentum in a show because it's the
patent patent patent thing. Yep. Yep.
It gets me every time. It's a disaster. Let's go with Kevin
Sutherland, and I'm sure the listeners will correct me.
Kevin Sonders, guys. Kevin Sonders. Kevin Sonders is
still there and, you know, whatever. And the
latest news, by the way, the update to this,
Shafter reported the Broncos have granted Russell Wilson permission to speak with
other teams. So he doesn't have to wait until, you know, the beginning of the
new league year. He can do it right now. So 35 year old quarterback coming
off a high profile failure.
I think he should have some market, but not a big one.
He's a tricky case. Or no, as a starter. I put him number 80 something on the top
101 that was...
Feels about right.
I was debating
whether like him
or Tannahill, for instance.
And I had to take into account
the Russell Wilson of it all.
Like who do I see as just
being like an easy backup?
Because at this point I think he's a backup.
And to me, Tannahill just make...
They're both 36. It's similar.
Like, to me he just makes more sense of just like
a guy you insert there with like a 1B
with a rookie quarterback. Totally agree with you.
I was going to say...
And Russ, it seems a little like a lot.
Like he might explain.
expect more.
He wants to win two more Super Bowls.
That's what he said.
So maybe he has a backup.
But he,
I feel like a straight backup.
I put him more in that category just above where it's like the was minchu
Baker.
Sure.
Those types where he can be a starter in the right situation,
but signs somewhere as a backup.
That's not crazy.
Like he's not an entrenched backup.
He's not like Sam Donald,
for instance,
at this stage.
I think he's one step above that.
But considering where he was a couple of years ago,
it's pretty crazy.
And the Broncos obviously didn't see it.
coming.
They can still win, though.
Look, the Bucks just
made it to the...
Win what?
I don't think...
What's the goal here?
I think they can have a winning record.
Can't win the division.
I mean, because they're with the Chiefs
and because of the roster right now,
it's very unlikely.
But the Bucks just ate
a very similar
dead cap hit for Tom Brady
and made the divisional round.
The Brees contract,
the first year he was gone,
they were eating that.
It didn't go well.
But they're in the LFSA.
But they're in the LFSI.
Those are very, I agree.
Like that compounds the problem here.
Like you can't, they have one hand tied behind their back for two years essentially in arguably the toughest division.
It's, it's bad.
It was a big swing.
You want your team?
You want your favorite team to take big swings?
But sometimes.
You know one little quick thought that came to mind is like, we never learned from this stuff.
And like, people were hyping up the Russell Wilson thing.
It's like, right now we're talking about like the best quarterback that will be available as a.
late 30s veteran with an Achilles tear,
and he's about to sign for major money somewhere.
It's like two years from now we might be forgetting
how that will be lauded.
Way to...
You really put it in a really...
There you go.
Kind of put a, like, an exclamation.
You put a slammer on it.
That suggests you don't like my point
when I look at these comments coming back.
It's a tremendous way to tie together
and shows that you are plugged in.
It's like, I always feel like, Kirk Cousins,
you got to go get to me as the first chip to fall.
It's like fall where and let's see how that lands.
Great way to punctuate the conversation.
I'm happy to help
What it did was it took this topic
we're talking about now
and it gave it broader context.
I will suggest this morning
and I appreciate when you do this Greg
you open up our chat client
and Greg will give an initial lineup of notes.
Like Dan I think you were trying to read
this insanely long book Infinite Jest
by David Foster Walls.
One day.
Has a notes in Erata section at the end
that's like 160 pages long.
Like that's what this news lineup looked like
and we were through one item.
Sessler and I immediately, when we saw each other,
we were like, how about the news?
A lot of news.
You know what?
The Rust thing is juicy.
After that, it's like a bunch of tags
and some quick stuff.
I feel like you guys just share a lot of anxiety.
We are the anxiety twins.
Everybody relax.
We're going to get through the news.
Everything's going to be fine.
Coming up a little later,
and this is going to set everyone at ease,
a truth serum will be administered
to key NFL figures
that allows them.
to speak their mind in a really
sincere way in a way
that you want to hear from athletes
and people connected to the sport.
So that's coming up. First, you know, let's get through the rest of this
news before two of the people
in the studio have a panic attack.
Nah, I don't believe in the space.
I was like, you know,
I'm a lot of religious.
So I think like we're not strong
right now. I don't think there's like
playing this and stuff like they.
Wow, there's a video from
Brent Sobelesky on Twitter of
Texas, Texas.
safety, Tyler Owens, who said, if you could hear that,
he does not believe planets actually exist.
I don't believe in space.
I don't think there's other planets and stuff like that.
I have an idea to weed out certain prospects, a test, a cognitive test, if you will.
Oh.
That makes sure that element isn't in my locker room.
How about that?
What do you think about the idea of a test?
I feel like that would go over well with the public.
Not in his defense, because I don't agree with what he's saying,
but he seems to be coming from the world of like,
if everything's sort of just a sim,
that the concept of other universes and planets and UFOs
and everything else is just sort of a simulation.
But he's not talking about even UFOs.
Well, no, but planets.
Other planets.
You'd be looking up at essentially like something that just exists in our imagination.
He's basically, I listened to more of this.
I wasn't interested.
He went in, he admitted he was in a YouTube, you know, rabbit hole and essentially says,
where's the proof, you know?
I do my own, he was essentially giving the, I do my own research.
I haven't seen the proof of the other planets.
No moon landing.
A lot of people would go down that road as a starting point.
I don't need to listen to him.
What I do need to listen to is his agent talking to him after the combine.
Yes.
Well.
You fool!
I think that would be too harsh to a little.
eliminate people with these beliefs because it's not hurting anyone else.
And the NFL is often too lax in other areas of some behaviors.
By the way,
this seems harmless.
Like Gino Smith noted...
A cognitive test.
Gino Smith noted flat earth.
Back in the day, a flat earther.
I like to think that he's matured.
You'd like to think it, but we don't know.
He had a real nice broad jump at the combine.
So maybe you look past the planet stuff, space, where we are in this universe.
If I were a roster builder, I would have to take out the red marker there.
A lot of red flags.
That's fair.
That's your team.
That's fair.
Yeah.
Congrats.
Are you welcoming him in?
Maybe you, I could educate him.
I could save him.
I'd also say his delivery was, you know, not tongue-intrink, but he was playful about it and, like, doesn't think that everyone agrees with him.
He's not trying to pound the table saying everyone must agree that there are no planet.
Hey, everyone can have their own opinion as long as it's not hurting anyone else, so it's fine in my book.
right but not when there are facts involved
sure like there should be limits
it's not an opinion
you can just be wrong
you could be wrong about things that's fine
all right the franchise tag
deadline is come and gone so
and tomorrow is going to be good
because we're going to
after all the tags and all the cuts
we're going to take another look at Gregi's free agency
101 and by the way the free agency
three what did we say 14 was it 3
321 maybe it was 2 13 I mean you can't
even remember
we're still working on that
how do you know
it could have evolved since then
changed that
and we're continuing
to workshop that
that will be landing
when did we decide
on Tuesday night
I think around that time
yeah but you know
that seems appropriate
the time
so anyway
Greg we're going to
visit his list
with a very special guest
Mina Kimes tomorrow
talking over
now what is the list
like
because we
the legal tampering period
is set to begin
on Monday
So here are the players that got tagged.
And a lot of these are, we knew it was coming and now it's official.
Josh Allen by the Jaguars, they're a great pass rusher.
Brian Burns by the Panthers, they're great.
They're never going to let him go.
Never.
Just never going to let him go.
They can't do it.
It's going to be stuck there forever.
Legerius Sneed now officially tagged and he's been getting permission to seek a trade.
So we'll see if Sneed's on the move next week.
Justin Madibouquet of the Ravens, Antoine Winfield of the Buck.
So Baker officially headed toward free agency.
If they don't get a deal done,
the Bears tag Jalen Johnson,
the Colts tag,
wide receiver Michael Pittman.
So that's another name out of the mix
in terms of veteran wide outs.
The Patriots use the,
there's always somebody.
I'm going to use the transition tag.
Look at me.
There's really not always somebody.
It's like the hipster option.
It's like five times.
Oh, you use the franchise tag?
I'll use the transition tag.
The rest of the league,
just in awe of that process.
Kyle Dugger gets that.
What is the transition tag again, Greg?
quick refresher?
This year, for the
safeties, it'll be 13.
something million and the franchise would have been
17. And the difference in that money allows
Kyle Dugger to shop
his wares around the league. And if you
can get a contract,
it's an offer sheet. Is that what
Lamar got last year? Have five days to match it.
No, Lamar got the non-exclusive
franchise tag, which is what
most of these players got. So,
in theory, if you wanted to give up two
first-round picks for any of these players,
I believe they all got the non-exclusive.
Yeah, no one got the exclusive.
You could.
And Legerius Sneed is the only one that's out there shopping.
I think the rest, you kind of assume no one's even going to think.
But with Dugger, he plays multiple positions.
And I felt like it was weird that they gave him the transition tag and obviously gave him the safety one.
So it's just like the cheapest option out of everything.
Players sometimes will fight that through the union.
Like a lot of tight ends in the past.
I feel like not a lot, but it's happened.
I want to be labeled as a lot.
wide receiver based on my route tree and all that.
Michael Parsons just got called a
defensive end, I believe, for his fifth year option.
And I do think he might file an appeal because it's less money.
Now, the Dugger thing, though...
Defensive end is less than...
Linebacker right now, which is crazy.
That is wild.
Well, because they need to make an edge one.
Right.
So linebackers now include outside linebackers.
That'd be so much just better.
How are we this far into this?
And they haven't...
Is it a substantial difference?
It must be if he's filing a...
I am just.
guessing that he may file one.
It's like $3 million.
But a lot of teams will, like, sweeten the deal if you do play multiple positions.
And, like, obviously, Dugger lined up more at safety than he did at corner, but still.
Yeah, he's a, he's a safety.
I mean, you have to put him at some positions.
Yeah.
That would be the position.
You do that when you think, hey, we're out, we want to keep this guy.
We think we're offering him a good deal.
He's not happy with it.
We have a feeling maybe if you go out there, our deal is actually still going to be the, the best
one out there or that we would
match it. There's been reports that, you know, he's in the
$13, $14 million, but then you don't want to give him
the franchise tag because that's 17
and that starts the bidding at like a
higher number than you want. So that's
an interesting one. The rest of the franchise tags, though,
were eminently
predictable. Like everyone locally,
nationally kind of thought these were all
the guys that were going to get it. And
they all got it. And it made my list, you know,
way less exciting.
Prominent players not tagged who
remain on Greg's list. Dauphin's defensive
tackle Christian Wilkins, Giants running back
Saquan Barkley, both set
to hit the market.
Wilkins was a surprise to me.
Was it? Okay. I thought so too. And like there's
some whispers that Cleveland of all teams would
maybe pursue him. They, he's going to make
he, he is, should be thrilled, you know,
because franchise tags ultimately don't help these
players at all. He's going to make way more
guarantee money in the end.
And I'm trying to think where he is now on my top
101. He's got to be like top three now after all these.
But the dolphins are just bleeding.
defenders at this point with
Xavieran Howard, Jerome Baker,
Emmanuel Ogba, now Christian
Wilkins, obviously there's still time to
sign him to a deal. Their defensive coordinator?
Although it's exactly unlikely. But
all of this puts so much pressure on
to us, since they're clearing all of this
cash to give him the monster deal.
And now, like, I don't know how that
defense is going to look next season. Right. They have
Ramsey. They have Tyreek. They gave Chubb a ton of
they do have like a lot of big, they want to
pay Jalen Phillips. So they had to
make decisions, but they sneaky are
in among the worst situations with the cap.
But he's 28 years old.
Christian Wilkins, good player, number three on the list now.
So you should thank them.
All right.
Let's pause right here for a minute and take a break and then get back to the news.
All right, we're back.
Prominent cuts, three from the Seattle Seahawks.
And we'll start with Jamal Adams, the safety, who during the pandemic was traded from
the Jets for two first round picks and then given a massive deal.
And one of the stranger career arcs are Adam.
he had nine and a half sacks in his first season with Seattle
from the safety position, which was a record.
I kind of remember because he got hurt that year, too.
He's been injured constantly ever since.
But I kind of feel like he had nine and a half
almost going into December and then didn't have any of the rest of the season
or something close to that.
And then never had another sack the rest of his time with Seattle,
which is absolutely bizarre and dealt with a lot of serious injuries
and some dumb off the field stuff and kind of a mess for Seattle.
So they were ready to move on.
Quandre Diggs also leaving the team
that's a quality defensive back
that I'm sure will have a nice market
and as will tight end will Dissly
another salary cap casualty
so the Seahawks who obviously had a lot of work to do here
say goodbye to three veterans
with Adams as the headliner
I mean this had a lot to do with it opens up
nearly 28 million in cap space
and Adams and Diggs were two of the three
most expensive safeties in the league Adams was a failed
experience of experiment it was like our final
piece of the puzzle Super Bowl
type situation with Russell Wilson and his prime at the time never ever worked um they like
julian love at safety and they're going to have probably you know with their new coach
that defense could look very different and I kind of trust what they're doing yeah devon
witherspoon who they got in that Russell Wilson trade is a cornerback but he he does a lot of
the things that Jamal Adams does which play from the slot and in blitz from there and it is
better at it I mean for a second I was like it does John Jamal Adams make the top 101 and I was
no I guess no of course not a guy a guy can't see he still in the
league.
Guy can't stay healthy and can't cover really.
Quandry Diggs is still like a nice,
nice player.
Seahx fans swear that he had a much better season than his disastrous
PFF ranking would indicate,
but he's a guy,
you know,
was asked to kind of cover for a lot of his teammates.
I think he's in the league,
Dan,
because I think he'll want to keep playing.
And absolutely a team is going to give him like a incentive-based
two or three million dollar contract,
something like that.
But what a disaster for Adams in Seattle.
33 games he missed out of a possible 67 regular season games.
And, like, the fact that all of his sacks were in 2020.
I mean, it's just, like, such an anomaly, but just so, such bad luck on his part with
the injuries and for Seattle to make that move.
I'll always remember him at that Miami Super Bowl at our hotel.
Right, Dan?
That's right.
He was a absurd pool party with those parties that lost 3.30 in the afternoon on, like, a Wednesday or whatever.
We were staying at a, this kind of.
living. Very Miami like hotel.
It was like Jamal Adams and like 19
women. And we felt like we were kind of separated.
He definitely stacked the deck. He was
in a good spot. Yeah.
No dude's allowed at that. I think it had
get invited. We were having
literally a meeting with her like laptops
that were like, hi, hello, we're over.
We did have her laptop.
We were. It was, it was, we were
about 50 yards away
from this outrage. It's like,
remember the LaShawn McCoy invite that went out
like. This is exactly what I'm thinking of.
chicks only will pick you up on a desolate street corner in a van and take you to the party.
I got a feeling Jamal maybe not as on the radar as LaShawn did.
Shadyman mistake there had a similar like rounding up of all the hot women in South Beach.
And we were sitting there four laptops open 50 yards away just like pretending to be or trying to
organize our thoughts for upcoming episodes.
And it's like every hot girl that's ever existed surrounding Jamal Adams.
But the crazy thing was it was like,
Wednesday at like 1 p.m.
That part of it seemed odd to me.
It put you in a bit of a tough spot because I think you're obviously in a completely different world
with Jamal Adams now.
But he was sort of the centerpiece of the jets and you could kind of tell.
It was cool, yeah.
But you could tell from like 25 yards the way that he was a little bit of a knucklehead.
Yeah, a little bit.
He was pre-organized this entire absurd party.
So you guys were show planning with your laptops at the pool in Miami.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, because like it was a hotel emptiest pool at like noon on a Wednesday.
Right.
That's nice.
We actually got outside.
Yeah, so that's exactly what it was.
It was nice.
I remember there wasn't many league figures at the hotel.
It's almost like they just put us one, put us in a hotel.
Well, it started to turn wild, though, in many, in many ways, shapes as the week went on.
This is like a real deep cut, if you know, like 90s hip hop.
But if you remember when MC Hammer became Hammer and then, you know, gangster rap took over and he tried to employ like a West Coast sound, he put out a single in like 95, 96 called Pumps in the Bump.
And pull up that on YouTube, the original version, the one that got banned by MTV.
And then you'll know what Jamal Adams party looked like.
Pretty wild.
Good reference.
Mark, you especially when you have some private time.
Me, look it up.
Yes.
It's very, yeah, Rex and effect.
I'll report back.
Rum shaker would be another, you know, totem pole of the era.
But anyway, I think Adams, you know, he had a really unfortunate, like, took a pot shot at a former Jets beat reporter's wife,
recently over a you know a tweet that called out his suspect coverage and general has made
bad decision i'm just wondering as you have the right mindset to catch on somewhere and uh we shall
see in other news that uh some tight end news uh the texans signed dalton shultz to a three year
contract uh so they keep uh one of their weapons uh around young quarterback c j stroud uh also
out there reported that uh veteran tight end zack ertz has agreed to a one year contract with the commanders
according to ESPN.
So two veteran tight ends.
And your guy,
Kiami Fairbann,
back with the Texans,
easily the best kicker on the market.
Three years,
over 15 million,
which average salary,
you know,
might pass Matt Kaye.
I'm not sure as the highest paid kicker.
We'll see the guarantee,
but he got paid.
Worth every dollar.
There's no tight ends available whatsoever.
Dalton Schultz was the best one.
I think it's kind of an indication last year
at this time he got like a one-year
prove-it type of deal.
But now the league is flush
with all this cap space,
and now he gets a nice three-year...
I was surprised that they didn't tag Jonathan Grenard.
Like, after getting that deal done with Dalton Schultz,
I thought for sure that would be the next step for them,
the next logical step.
He's coming off a career best season,
but they didn't do it.
He and Daniel Hunter,
who knew he wasn't going to get tagged,
had a good day Tuesday,
because all those pass-freshers got paid,
and Grenard's the only, like, really young guy left.
Texans have the fourth-most cap room,
and they are being linked here and there
to Calvin Ridley
because a lot of the tags
went to these wide receivers
there's not that many veteran guys
that's a great draft for it too
but also Saquan Barkley
to the Texans
would make some sense to me
Oh I love that
in other news
still to me anyway
inexplicable that Bill Belichick
could not get one of the seven
head coaching jobs this off season
couldn't find a match
so now he's essentially
just hanging out there
and now the various networks
are poking
poking around Bill
did you watch
a game on Monday.
See, that's a
just a freeze frame there,
an audio freeze frame
of the type of insight
that you're going to get
from a Bill Belichick
in the studio.
But our buddy, Andrew Marchand,
who, by the way,
sounds like he got the bag
and went from the post
to the athletic,
home of the New York Times.
You'd assume a...
Or the athletic is home
at the New York Times
at this point.
I would think Marchan
got a nice raise.
He should write an article
on himself. He really should. He's savvy.
I would assume he got a raise. And
we tried to have him on the show at the Super Bowl
because I love talking media
with Andrew, but the timing
didn't work out, but we're going to have to get Andrew
back on the show soon if we can. Anyway, so here's
a scoop. Well, I need to talk about.
Lots to talk about it. Yeah. Have you been
in an Andrew Marchand article before? I have
not. I have not. I would kind of like
it to stay that way.
Sometimes it's great. Yeah, it could be.
Hello, Andrew. I hope you're doing well. Congratulations
on the career.
move. Anyway, according to
Marciane, Belichick has met
with CBS and NBC. Also
in the mix, Peyton Manning. He's got that
old Omaha productions
that seems to be doing well. They're
trying to land him as well.
So obviously it's kind of got a Sean Peyton
vibe to it, Connie, because
Connie, who's our entrenched
media force, one of the faces of NFL
Network and our Thursday night football coverage
and hot damn at the Super
Bowl. I mean, you did the
in stadium anchor of the Super Bowl? That was
fun.
Isn't it weird how successful?
Sometimes she is.
Because we know Colleen so well and you're a fully formed human and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, like, like, like, I've, like, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've been molded.
And I've, I've, I think.
But what I'm trying to say, is that, uh, maturing to do.
And what I'm trying to say is that, uh, so polished, uh, on that super bowl coverage.
Like, not even, I was, I was, I don't know why I was tracking this just because I was.
kind of in awe of you come.
Oh, damn.
Not a single flub.
Not like one word.
No.
Ever in like five hours of pre and in game coverage.
Oh, you should hear the conversation in my own head that's going on as I'm hosting those segments and those shows.
Like I said, though, I think you, you know, you are, we all, you bring guests to the Super Bowl and like they get to hang out as a group and, like, they were dazzled by the fact that this was happening out on the field during the entire game.
I was really nervous.
You know that, Andrew Barshant?
I was really nervous.
about the Lombardi
trophy hit
when I was out there
with Larry Zonka
and it was Larizanka
and John Elway
like the two minute
morning.
That one, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And I didn't have
anything prepared for that yet
and I kept being like,
um,
okay, it's now the third quarter.
Uh, fourth quarter's coming up.
What am I going to do for this?
And then I just like kind of went out
and winged it and thank God I landed the plane.
Well, the craziest,
not to get too sidejack,
but the craziest one was the,
two-minute warning one in the fourth quarter.
Yeah, that one.
Right.
And it reminded me a little of when we were in London and we did our hits.
And I threw out there like, hey, John Harbaugh, let's start, you know, being a little
more aggressive in the red zone, which you're not supposed to do apparently over the loudspeaker.
But you guys were over the, over the stadium at the two-minute warning right before the play
that would have won the Super Bowl for the 49ers.
And you guys were talking about that play.
you're like, hey, coming up, it's like a pretty big time play.
And I'm just thinking of all the 49ers.
I'm sure the coaches aren't exactly locked in,
but there's got to be some players on the bench that are like listening to this thing,
about to play the biggest play of their entire life.
And there's Connie and Steve Smith being like,
oh, I think they should run it or whatever you guys were saying.
I was just so in my head about those various hits.
I would have like, you stuck me next to Larry Zonka with 80,000 people watching.
He was like, ask him a question,
I'd be like, I would remember you from Family Matters.
You were on that once.
That's the way of a cameo.
That was cool, right?
They go full like Chris Farley show.
That's my favorite.
Remember when you were with Urkel?
He's awesome.
Anyway, so Belichick, we'll see.
It's going to be a one-year deal, I would think.
The only thing's weird, though.
How many different casts can they have?
The idea would maybe be pairing him and Sabin.
That's what they mentioned.
You can't just do it on Monday night.
They already have the Manning Cat.
And the regular cat.
Maybe he becomes a regular on the Manning Cast.
There is one incredible sentence in this athletic article.
Belichick has made it clear.
He only wishes to talk
about aspects of football that interest him.
But this, of course, is a two-way street with the, whatever.
You know, he just wants to talk about the little things that he's into.
Like, wouldn't we all be so lucky just to, like, just opine on.
Maybe it would be more, like, hit pieces now on Bill for wanting to do it his way.
Because God forbid, God forbid the greatest coach of all time might want to do it his way.
Well, yeah, he said he doesn't want to do the studio show.
So if they were going to use him, like, it would be some pre-taped thing or it'd be some, you know,
he's going to get deep on the X's and O's.
but he doesn't want to be sitting up there saying, like,
who's under more pressure today?
Or, like, what's your pick in the Sunday?
Like, he's not going to make game picks and do a bunch of dopey games.
You don't think he's going to do X factors?
God forbid, Bill doesn't have power over Terry Fontno.
I mean, like, just remember this moment in time, people.
That's all I'm going to say.
Fontenot takes it straight.
I mean, nothing personal to Terry, but let's check out the old CVs.
All right, afternoon delight, hit it.
Jack's cut, Darius Williams, Roshan,
Jenkins and Folli Fata Kausen.
He's a former jet, I shouldn't know of this.
Fatu Kasi, yes, defensive tackle.
Speaking of the Jets, they cut a free agent signing,
Bustlaken Tomlinson, never worked for him.
And C.G. Uzama, another pricey signing,
a tight end a couple years ago, didn't work.
I see, a lot of things don't work out.
It's true.
It's life.
Just a heads up.
A lot of the signings next week will fail.
Panthers cut Dante Jackson and Hayden Hearst.
The Dolphins also say goodbye to Jerome Baker.
Anything on that?
on that anyone. The one thing I looked up
because Tomlinson I think I
liked him going in and it didn't happen
like I PFF like the Jets current
offensive line. We know it's a draft
need but in general it's like it you know
how PFF scores like they get into reds
and orange and it just looks like a forest fire
their line. You want deep greens
and blues and it's like they've got some work to do
they don't have any guys that they know
are playing a certain spot. You got like
Vera Tucker and that's about it. Baratucker
who I think is going to kick to tackle.
They have Joe Titman who had a really nice
rookie year. They need two guards and a left tackle and that is the only thing they should be
focused on with a 40 year old quarterback coming off. Keep an eye on the Jaguars. Darius Williams
played really well for them last year and they cut them just to open cap space. They just
feel like a team that's either all or nothing and they feel like they might be pretty noisy
in the next week. Well done. Nailed it. After the break, truth serum for NFL figures.
All right. Welcome back.
So this is crazy.
You guys may have noticed that I have this weird propensity to be randomly connected to well-known figures across various disciplines.
I haven't noticed this yet.
Yeah, I do.
Fine, Dan.
Have you noticed that?
We know.
We've noticed.
It's popped up.
Yeah, you have a connection to like you, too, to a soccer team.
to, you know.
Here and there, it just pops up.
Not anything that, through ambition,
it just happens sometimes.
It's cool.
The latest example, of course,
being Shalin Patel,
new owner of West Brom,
Bling, bling, bling.
Let's go.
Boing, boing, isn't it?
Bling, bling was all right,
Boing, BG.
We're new.
We're new in our fandom.
Cash money records.
John was like,
is boing, boing,
something on the pod that they do?
And it's like,
not that I know of,
not yet at least,
but maybe.
Yeah, not bling, bling, boing, boing is,
it's a, it's a West Brom thing.
Right.
So maybe we can bring bling bling back, though.
Did it leave?
It's a jam.
Okay, it's the song.
Oh, the song itself.
We can't play songs on the show.
But anyway, so anyway, I've got another.
And this one's really weird.
And I'm surprised I never brought him up before.
His name is Wilhelm von Tufelhammer.
He's a prominent doctor.
This is not a Sessler.
character that's made up.
That is happening there.
He's a prominent doctor and scientist of unknown origins.
And he has, I've been made aware, because we caught up recently, he's developed a serum.
It should be in very early clinical trials because we really don't know what the effects are, long term, or even midterm, or even short term.
Sounds dangerous.
However, Wilhelm isn't thought to be.
doing very well. And I, and I think he's basically fast-tracking it because he's trying to, you know, beat the, you know, the big deadline in the sky. Put it that way.
Will the serum cure himself, cure whatever is ailing him?
I don't think truth is going to help him physiologically. I think he's, I'm just saying he's getting older.
I don't know him well, but it's just like one of those weird connections. So anyway,
let's get this patented. Let's get this thing rolling. Yeah, he wants to see his life's work.
They've done that with other serums in the past couple years. Let's get this thing rolling is right.
yeah so so with that said he's going to come in here a little bit later let's be aware
okay Wilhelm is ball in line Rosenthal here we go let's get into it we're going to have some key
figures in the NFL all right free agency's coming up a new season's coming up crazy off
season uh and kind of a press conference here and uh hopefully
we'll get some real answers got it yes is that are we good great i think that makes sense all right let's do
let's start let's welcome in someone that everyone knows well baker mayfield so baker mayfield
obviously has a big uh has a big uh has a big uh week coming up for him so uh if you want to open up
uh the floor to questions go for it uh yeah i'll start how about this baker you you you said
you know through maybe your intermediates there was some reporting that you
you wanted to have a chance to win a championship.
Would you be willing to maybe take less money to stay in Tampa
after they helped resurrect your career here?
You know, it's been incredible run in Tampa.
You know, they welcomed me in last year and gave me an opportunity to start.
And so that means a lot to me.
And I love it there.
My family loves it there.
so hometown discounts I think they call them I don't know about that but I just I'm very excited to be part of the free agent process but also I love Tampa thanks Baker inside this vile is a miracle truth serum they say it does not exist but I assure you my lab has
Proven Zemmo wrong.
I've got to stop smoking.
That could be a factor.
How?
Listen, man, I'm terrified.
Baker, me.
I'm terrified.
I know I stumbled into the perfect place
to spend the rest of my NFL years,
a place where I could be myself,
a place where I could be a slightly
less productive but more
likable version of Derek Carr
the people of Tampa
they're okay with me being me
so just let me chill here
for another five or six years
I'll throw for like
3,500 yards and 26
touchdowns we'll go 8 and 9
or 9 and 8 every year
ups and downs but like the NFC
South and this is my speed and
even the idea of going
to Atlanta which obviously is also in the NFC
south where there are actual
like real expectations to improve after some failure there at the quarterback position.
I'm not into that.
I'm just not into the pressure anymore.
I was the number one overall pick.
You might remember of the Cleveland Browns.
I had some success there.
Do you remember after I won a playoff game there the next year,
a lot of people were picking the Browns with me as the quarterback to go to the Super Bowl?
Do you have any idea the amount of pressure that to be in that spot?
I've been there.
I've done that.
I'm out and I'm done
and don't even get me started on this report out there
this FACTA report about me going to the Patriots
I'd rather you throw a harpoon
clear through my chest
than go and freeze up in New England
and get my ass kicked for four months
no man
NFC South the bucks
that's my speed let's get it done
that classic Baker confidence that we've
come to know is in full force
apparently within.
Well, I have a question at this press conference.
Baker, like, do you see a future as a big-time endorser moving forward?
You say you want the less pressure, but isn't a big contract going to be a lot of pressure
no matter where it is?
And do you want those progressive ads back?
Because you're a hell of an actor.
Thank you for bringing out the progressive ads because that's what this is ultimately about.
I need to be just good enough to hang around for about a half dozen year to reestablish my
brand fully with the progressive ads being my main goal to get back into that game.
Same ad campaign, but this time in that dopey stadium with the pirate ship.
That's, that's it.
Let's imagine a world baker where that ship has sailed into the distance.
You're about to become a dad.
Congratulations for that.
Are you doing the kind of parent thing where like you're kind of downshifting the focus on
career and you're trying to do the safest possible thing?
Like this doesn't feel like the baker that I've known in the past where it's like you
got the chip on the shoulder.
you're shooting for the stars instead you're just Tampa works
Tampa no and I understand and Mark good to see you I know you have an affinity for me
even though I'm not seen as like a major financial a man with major financial cloud
I'm incredibly rich the kid is cool and and I got a wife and an opair and all sorts of
help I'm all about football I'm making money right now so that that's that's the answer
but it's just hanging around and I and I think that's enough for me
but thank you for having me on
I don't really want to be here
but it was part of my media engagement
Just one more one more quick question
Where are you on the creamsicle jerseys
And the actual cannons that are fired
From that ship
Where am I?
Yeah
Just in your head space right now
They're fine
Yeah
It's like a six out of ten in my mind
They're fine
Okay
All right thank you Baker
All right there he goes
Thanks you feel
It's so refreshing to hear.
So much truth.
To hear how people feel.
I'm beginning to think, what's his name again?
The doctor.
Wilhelm von Tufelhammer.
The efficacy of his injection was incredible and immediate when he came in that room.
After effects?
Do we know the side effects?
We won't know for a long time.
All right, Colin, who's the next person coming in?
Okay.
Next person is Drodman.
Rod Mayo. Wow. New head coach of the New England Patriot. Yes.
Mr. Mayo is, I guess we'll start here. Do you feel like you have big shoes to fill? Is there an intimidation level in terms of replacing a giant like Belichick?
Well, if I was someone who got intimidated, I wouldn't be here. My confidence has brought me to this spot in New England. And I feel really.
good about where we're at, the future ahead, the transitions that we're going to go through as well.
I see you are afraid of me, my dear.
Well, there is nothing to be afraid of.
Are you sure?
Are you okay?
Oh, come on.
It's not well.
Am I going to get whatever you have?
There's nothing to be afraid of, just a little pin.
You sure?
Yes.
that's right
Let the serum do its bidding
As you were saying
Mr. Bale
Oh, come on man
Listen
I don't know what was in that injection
But I'll tell you what
I've been having some night tears
I've been having night terrors every night
And it's Belichick
And I mean
I thought that we were all on the same page
When I said that we're ready to burn some cash
apparently that was just me that was ready to burn some cash
but I think the entire organization should be ready to burn some cash
and free agency we need to make a lot of moves around here
and if this is my first season with New England
it better be successful we need some wide receivers
we probably need a tight end we need so many things
that I can't I don't even have enough time to talk about it right now
the legacy that has been left behind those shoes are so hard to fill
I'm not sure how it's going to get done,
but I'm just crossing my fingers at this point
and hoping that it all goes well.
Well, do you feel like there's extra pressure on you
to even be anything close to Bill Belichick,
or are you kind of riding and willing to be your own guy?
You've talked about a culture change.
It sounds like your head's, you know, a miss right now.
You know, I would be lying if I didn't say
that I felt very stressed out
and a lot of anxiety in every conversation
seems like the world is maybe like crumbling down,
but I do see a lot of hope ahead too.
and I'm really positive about where this team is heading.
And Elliot Wolfe,
I'm hoping that he wants to burn some cash
because that's really the main priority here.
We have $88 million in cap space.
But yeah, I'm real stressed out about what the future holds
in the AFC East and in Foxborough in general, guys.
You're kind of set up to fail, it almost sounds like.
I hope not.
I hope that I wasn't brought in here to fail, Dan Hansis,
because that would be real bad.
Talk about it.
That'd be real bad.
You really gave, you know, a recovering Patriots fan like me some confidence with the way you carried yourself in your opening press conferences.
And this change has me worried.
Even the phrase burning cash has me worried.
Any concern about, for instance, a couple years ago, the Patriots went into free agency, they spent a lot of money, everyone was all excited.
And then they got like three solid years of Hunter Henry and not much.
else like can you really fix a team in free agency you know Greg that's something that we're
going to find out very soon and we sure hope so it seems like at times that it can't get any worse
that it can only go up from here after what's happened with mac and how bill sort of left
the state of things here in new england but we're going to have to just hope and pray and if you
have a blessed mother put her in the window all right well thank you very much mr mayo
No problem.
What was in this?
Give me a drink.
Yeah, let's get them hydrated immediately.
That was concerning.
Let's get them off their feet and hydrated.
I could feel his stress.
The anxiety was pouring off Gerard as well.
Totally.
Totally.
All from Gerard.
Up next, Greg is who?
Brian Dable is going to be.
Ah, yes.
The Giants entering his third year, his head,
Coach, first year, well, let me ask you, Brian.
First year could not have gone better.
I mean, not only the Giants make the playoffs, that was a surprise.
I was the man.
Yeah, you won a toast to New York.
You were supposed to, you were supposed to win.
You were supposed to have a good second season as well.
It didn't go out.
It didn't go that way.
So where's your headspace at?
Do you believe in this team getting back on the winning track in 24?
Yeah, you know, we always looked at this as a three-year building plan.
That's what you do when you come in.
me and Joe Shane from
Buffalo. We've
been slowly adding pieces
and pointing towards year
three is when it's really our team.
Watch out.
Ah, yes.
My next patient.
Hold out your arm, please.
This font hurt
very much.
Wait, is this Dracula?
Excuse me.
You may feel.
A little bit strange.
Dracula lives forever.
I'm not sure this guy's going to.
It starts coursing through your veins.
But trust it, there is no fighting the effects.
As you were saying, Brian.
Get him a handkerchief.
Oh, God.
This stuff is killing me.
Man, I haven't felt like this since NFL honors a couple years ago.
Remember that?
That was great.
Look at all days.
Top of the world.
Now I'm just collecting a paycheck.
What are we doing here?
Brian,
do you have any regrets about signing Daniel Jones last season over Saquan Barclay?
I mean, regrets.
I never wanted to do it in the first place.
This was all from upstairs.
We got our headline.
Good job coming.
Oh, the Tiffany franchise of New York.
New York Giants.
We treat our quarterbacks well as long as they vaguely.
resemble Eli Manning.
Why did we give him this contract?
We're locked into it.
It's $40 million.
I got Joe Shane here.
I thought he was, he said,
we're going to be like Buffalo.
You know what Buffalo did their first few years?
They signed a bunch of great free agents and made a bunch of great draft picks.
Who we got?
We got Darren Waller.
Are you playing for me this year?
Who's on our defense?
It took me half the season just to get over,
Wink Martindale, trying to bury me to reporters.
I'm a mess right now.
Give me some players.
Who's our defensive coordinator?
Literally, does anyone know who our defensive coordinator?
Shane Bowen.
Does he have a wiki page?
While we have you in the state, I have to ask you,
would you consider yourself the bigger small spoon?
Ah, very good.
Have you seen me?
Of course, I'm the big spoon.
I'm able.
Come on.
I mean, you would have thought,
what do you think we got Kvon-Tibato?
I mean, he seems like a very outspoken player
and productive, no doubt,
but what do you think about him ultimately?
A good guy.
He was a good pick.
Nice pass rusher.
We need more people like him.
I also like his entire just media strategy.
He seems to have like a great feel of like who do I talk to,
who do I kind of make my media a friend
and who do I consider an enemy.
Like that guy.
Anything else you'd like to add, Brian?
I just need players.
Take one was like one of our only great.
players, right?
He was great.
Okay, we got Andrew Thomas.
We got Sequin.
And so we've got
two players, right?
Oh, so let's not keep one of those two players.
Oh, we got Dexter Lawrence.
Okay.
But that was a Dave Gettlement pick.
Give me some picks.
Give me some players, Joe Shane.
I want to see it.
Because I'm just out there coaching my ass off
turning Darius Slayton into a wide receiver one
and Wondell Robinson.
I need some more players.
What's your record this year?
You gotta get.
I'm not feeling good right now.
If we can nail the next few weeks,
maybe we can scratch out eight or nine wins,
but we got to nail the next couple of weeks.
If Joe helps me,
I'm doing a great job coaching.
Brian, we want to apologize in advance,
both for the potential devastating after effects
of that injection and also what the New York media
is about to do to you.
Wait, this is public?
Bye-bye.
There you goes.
Sounds like he needs a vacation.
That does sound like.
All right, Mark, who else is joining us?
All right.
I am part of the Fox number one broadcasting team, Greg Olson.
Oh, very nice.
All right.
I mean, this is a, and he's doing, Greg, you've really proven yourself to be one of the very best in the game.
Or, excuse me.
Yeah, Greg.
You looked at him.
I know.
Well, his name is Greg.
He threw me off.
Greg, Olson.
You have proven yourself to be at.
the top of your game. Of course, how does it feel this Tom Brady situation hanging over everything
as we enter a new year? You know, I've been doing this for a certain amount of time. I've grown
to love the job. I would say that, number one, I've always been a team player where it was on the
field at Fox. Like, I have a philosophical approach to just go out there and call the best, the very
best game that you possibly can. This just one tiny pin break in your vein. Stay still.
All of the truth locked inside your brain.
Virk I'm pouring out.
All right.
Can somebody get this guy some water?
Lawsinge.
You need more than a lozenge, my friend.
Can people not see the parallel that I came in as an unknown into the broadcasting booth?
And I have been a crystal clear technical lighthouse from the word go.
and you got Tom Brady.
I'm sorry, sir, did you say a crystal clear technical lighthouse?
When I speak about football.
That truth serum's got some stuff in it.
I teach people about football in a way that, you know what?
Just because you played quarterback doesn't mean it works.
Tom Brady spent his whole career telling us and whining about where he was drafted and who he became.
Agree, greatest quarterback of all time.
But I just would like to reform you that go back to someone like Johnny Unitas that had that his time
and the greatest quarterback career came in and failed.
in the booth famously. How about Bill Walsh, who everyone thought was the smartest coach of all
time, super ultra bore fest, snooze fest on air. You tell me one time that Tom Brady has ever
truly made you laugh because of a genuine attachment to wit. And we're just going to come in here
and throw me down to the Joe Davis, Daryl Johnston spot number two. You're going to pair me with
someone else. And Tom Brady is going to just get handed this massive multimillion dollar deal. And people
everywhere are going to be saying what happened to the great Burkhart-Oleason pairing that would
have been here and should have been here for 25 years. This will go down as the biggest mistake
in network television history. Greg, Olson, when you think about Tom Brady and obviously
you've really just outlined how you feel about him, but how quickly do you think he will be
able to catch on to this craft having gone through this yourself? Well, I don't know. Did I
take to need an entire year to sit in my den crafting concept of how I might announce.
No, I just went and did it right away.
So how long will take him to catch on?
So far, the track record is not promising.
You literally were still in the NFL the first time that you did it, of course, as, as you
know, I think it was like a buy week for the pan.
Or she knows.
Right.
Personal.
I've always been impressed with you, Greg, fellow Greg, not Greg Olson.
You are Greg Olson.
We saw you in Las Vegas.
You just looked like a man who's.
having a good time.
One at life that is always winning.
How does it sit with you to lose this power struggle?
And will you respond by trying to get a number one job maybe at another network like Amazon?
Greg, I appreciate the question.
Greg Rosenthal.
Greg Rosenthal, anything is on the table.
I do recall seeing the couple of you in Vegas.
And I think that you noticed that I was beautiful and powerful in that casino that I stood out as a human being.
Yes.
I will not stop being that.
Whether it's at Fox or elsewhere, parts unknown.
White cis male, hetero, I was taken aback by
almost a statue of a man, just standing in that casino.
And it was an honor to run into you and say hello to you.
And the Mark Sessler character who's not here also stood out
as someone that really understands broadcasting like the two of you.
And I think you can see that my argument is pristine.
It is powerful.
It is based in reality.
Technical lighthouse.
Technical white house.
Absolutely.
Well, good luck to you.
I don't need luck.
Oh.
Love it.
Love that guy.
Wow.
I absolutely love that.
Give him truth to hear him all the time.
Well, let's see how the body and mind reacts.
How long does it stay with you?
We don't know, Colleen.
This could be a whole new like seventh floor crew wraps coming out of Greg Olson after this.
Greg stated efficacy off the charts, obviously.
But we were, I thought we were assured that it would be safe forever.
There's no questions.
No, sorry.
You could leave, Greg.
Olson.
And good luck to you.
And just realize this was for science, ultimately.
And we'll see how plays out.
All right.
Let's take a break.
And we'll be right back.
All right.
Welcome back.
Oh, a little bit of news that just came across here.
The bills are working to get under the cap.
This is from Rapsheet, and they make the move to release.
Oh, I thought we were done with the good doctor.
He's still here?
He thought he'd be at the hospital by now.
He's interrupting the breaking news segment.
How much serum does he have?
Don't I understand you ought to be a very special case?
The cess dog, as you are known.
Oh, yes, Mr. Cess Dogg.
You are so mysterious
Until my true serum is injected in your veins, that is.
Oh, the good doctor.
Every time he laughs.
He's got to stop laughing.
Oh, come on, man.
This cough is ridiculous.
Wow.
We got the serum in Sessler.
Wow.
What an opportunity this is.
It does not feel.
workplace fair. Does anybody want to
do you have a question? I mean, I would love
you to start. Mark has
turned Ashton. Mark
yeah, I guess I'll just start
with a little bit of a softball.
How are you feeling right now
after the serum? What are you
afraid of? What are you afraid? Yeah, I don't know what's
just been injected into my body, but I
am starting to feel concerned about just the one
mental processing over the last couple
seconds. I got one.
Do you want to be here right
now for another 10 minutes tops like in what sense here on the earth longer on the earth do you have any
plans uh to leave the country in the next six weeks well when i make plans like they just come out of
thin air so it's a total possibility not currently on the map there's a work trip to mexico with a
bunch of people that we were not invited to because we're too old that's true not even approached okay
Well, then you can plan your own one.
Where would you go?
If you could go anywhere right this minute after the show,
work doesn't even matter.
It doesn't even exist anymore.
Money doesn't matter.
It doesn't exist.
Where would you go?
In Mexico or worldwide?
Anywhere.
But you have to decide in the next couple seconds,
and you have to stay there.
I go to Belgium.
You have to go to Belgium.
And never return.
I never return.
Greg, this is an opportunity for you right here.
Yeah.
Time's running out.
The serum only has a half life of minutes.
Okay, you're Brown's fandom.
Are you just going to...
keep
wish you
let's be real
I need certain things
to change
but I felt it
during the flacko run
I really did
and the change
I need
it happened
during the flacko run
and it's
I can return to anything
you're back to good
I'm about forgiving
I'm about
rethinking certain things
but certain things
they've done
made it tough
for me to sign up
when you have to talk
about it all the time
on a show
you're back
no
not necessarily
no I'm like
I'm like
outside the door
kind of looking through a door
kind of felt like you were back though
like a prison
like drafting them week after week before flaco
if flaco is meeting its toughest match yet
flaco if flaco if there is interest
between flackerel you've met your match
okay before that serum runs out
let's go like me
Greg Rosenthal yeah pros
cons give me some
you have been a genuine friend to me
you have you're someone that I've looked up to
from a career angle
And you're, I think when we go out on the town sometimes,
we go to like our places where we used to go with West,
like we have a great time.
For some reason, I'm more interested in the cons, frankly.
Only the cons.
That just says something about me.
The doctor has met as mad.
Truly.
All right.
I think it wore off now.
I'm sorry doing that.
Again, that was a kind of unfair thing to do.
I would say from what I recall of it, you know, they weren't all softballs,
but you could have gone, you could have asked tougher questions
that would have put me in a real...
It already felt kind of like a, frankly, a dick move
to pump this potential poison into you.
So I didn't want to, like, double down.
No, I think you were all very gentle to me, actually.
The look on your face and everyone should check out our YouTube.
I don't know if...
I guess they can't really, like, zoom in on their phone.
But the look on your face when the realization of the serum was coming,
it was going to haunt me.
You could...
I didn't know what was going to...
It was perfect.
I mean, I think it's a credit to the good doctor that we've created.
created such a real feel world that it did sense for just a flash that you thought it was actually
happening.
Yeah, because I, yes, I did.
I also love that Dan called for a doctor for the doctor at one point during the show, too.
The little doctor on doctor.
It's like when Dave Damashek is fascinated by tow trucks being towed by tow trucks.
What?
It's a thing.
All right.
Yeah, back to the breaking news.
And we needed to get this one in the show
because, you know, Eric Roberts demanded it.
But it's important.
The bills are working to get under the cap.
So they say goodbye to safety Jordan Poyer.
His cap number was $7.5 million.
This is from Rappsheet.
So Poyer is a piece of that defense
and a pretty big one, Gregie.
And now they, let's see if maybe he rejoins the team
on a different deal, but he's headed to free agency.
Where is he on the 101?
Good question.
He's an older safety that's not helping him.
There's a lot of safeties out there.
I think though this is more significant, you know,
and Bill's fans will get this.
But for the average fan, like, to me,
this Bill's run starts with Jordan Poyer and Micahide,
which is interesting.
And we were just listening to the press conference of Daible,
of what a great job the bills did when McDermott got there.
And part of it was they got these culture centers like right off the bat.
In this tandem, and they did a press conference after the last playoff game for the Bills,
and I thought that might have been a sign that, like, they were on their way out.
Micah Hyde is reportedly considering retiring.
He is on the 101, but to me, it might be a little bit of an end of an era for the Bills,
and they're sneaking a lot of cap struggles.
So there might be more big moves to come.
Could open an opportunity for D'Marie Hamill in there?
Is he, under contract?
I mean, he obviously...
He's pissed off Bills fans because he put out a quote saying that it would be the highlight
his life to retire with the Steelers.
He's a Pitt guy.
And he's under contract currently?
Is he said to be a free agent?
Oh, are we allowed to be allowed to be upset with him at this point?
Yeah, dude.
Well, he got the truth serum, obviously.
Bill's fans are pissed.
They're like, oh, good, good ridden, see you later.
Because he said, like, yeah, it would be like a dream of his.
Is he a free agent to be?
I'm not entirely sure.
Because that's a very strange thing to say when you're under contract.
In his, probably best case scenario, he'd be like a third safety.
He's a pit guy.
He went to pay.
He's from Pittsburgh.
So it makes sense.
But, yeah.
Did Dr. Wilhelm von Tuffelhammer get to.
We don't need to, let's leave, let's leave him alone.
We don't need to be testing DeMar Hamlin's body.
It's fine.
For this team that like still considers themselves like a Super Bowl contender,
they're 42, like before this move,
there are 42 million in the red.
No team has a bigger cap hell situation.
Oh my God.
Like I think they have tougher decisions ahead.
That Von Miller deal really hurt them.
And I don't think they're going to get rid of Von Miller necessarily because he has so much
guaranteed money.
You might as well just see what he looks like in August if you're not saving any money.
by getting rid of a man.
I don't know what they're going to do
with the safety position.
Like those two have been there
for seven years.
It's a...
Demar Hamlin is not under contract.
There you go.
The circling back to...
Oh, after this year.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
One more year.
Tufflehammer got him.
Yeah.
Because I guess the Broncos,
knowing the devastation
of the cap hit
could have done the same thing
with Russ, right?
Because like in the way
of the Von Miller,
if they had the power,
they would say bye-bye,
but they're like,
We're going to get killed either way.
No, because he doesn't like Russell Wilson.
Well, no, because they would have owed him even more guaranteed money in a couple of weeks.
So that's why.
So they can.
Not the case with Vaughn?
That contract, uh, which had 140 or 120 million guaranteed for us.
Uh, no, Vaughn's getting that money either way and it doesn't really help them cap space.
Makes sense.
So they might as, they still might cut him, I think, just because it's not working, but also the off-the-field stuff is also tarnished him more.
Uh, so there's just some layers to the Vaughn thing.
All right.
big year coming up for those buffalo bills digs is kind of a question mark a lot going on you know
dark big year coming up oh yeah about a truth serum to a father to me because there is i found uh for all
the incredible amount of excitement and anticipation uh when you're becoming apparent there is that
other stuff like oh my life is never going to be the same uh i'm going to miss hanging out with my boys and
and, you know, being free.
Steer clear the good doctor.
Yeah.
We don't need...
Your wife doesn't want to hear that.
Eric seems relatively sunny about the whole...
Yeah, I'm older.
I'm 32.
I'm actually...
Dude, I can't wait to have the...
Sorry, the babies at home excuse
to, like, not have to go out with people.
Aw.
Perfect, you know?
A perfect man.
Wait, you know?
Ladies and gentlemen, the perfect man.
Yeah, there we go.
Round of applause.
All right.
Funk, have you done any...
Behind the glass?
Have you done any...
Have you done any research yet on the Ayan Afraida
No Bears Modification to your unfortunate tattoo as you
Everything okay over there?
My bad, guys.
My bad.
Now we're good.
I have not actually, but I figured it won't be too hard.
It's a circle on the line.
What do we think is, are we going to cover this?
We'll cover this?
Well, Greg said he had a lead.
Oh, yeah.
Do you want to hook him up with that?
Tattoo artist, area tattoo artist?
Yeah, that doesn't sound too expensive.
I don't think it would be too crazy.
I think we'll cover it. We're going to cover it.
Colleen's going to chip.
Are you going to do it on the show?
Can we get the artist in here?
I don't know.
I'm not looking to turn into a stunt.
We could film it.
I think the answer is definitely no.
You can't get it.
We're going to have people call in.
We're going to be giving away tattoos.
You can't be doing tattoos here.
That's just not how it works.
Hey, this is Anthony from Regal Park.
I don't think he should touch a tattoo.
It's part of his legacy as a man.
There's health regulations.
I'll hang up and listen.
and all sorts of stuff.
We'll have a person of journey.
Thank you, Anthony.
Emily Eflare.
Check her out.
She's great.
Nice plug.
All right, anything else.
Is that who did yours?
He's done a few, yeah.
Oh, okay.
Look that one up.
Emily Eflor.
I like it.
I like it.
All right.
We are back on Thursday.
Colleen, you've said it all.
I truly have today.
I think so.
Today compared to any other show.
Is there a reason why,
and I don't like,
to do the Greg thing and look at other people's laptops, but you have what looks to be an aerial
overhead, almost like a you two spy plane look at an airport or an Air Force base.
What are you doing? Get the serum back in here. What is happening on your? This is just a screens
saver. Oh my God. And it's actually in Belgium. Funny enough. There we are. They're just randomly
They're all listening to us now. It's a Belgian airport is my screensaver right now for some reason.
I like planes. You guys know that.
I'm going to have to get CIA on this one, FBI.
All right, we'll be back Thursday.
Like you said, we're going to really last look at the free agency landscape before next week with Meenekimes.
Until then, thank you, Wilhelm.
And you know what you need to do.
See you, Doctor.
He the call.
Ah, yes, another successful serum of the heat experiment.
And now a little taste for the doctor.
Just shoot this into my known veins.
Let's tell the truth, man.
The truth is, Dan Hanses, is the sexiest podcast host in the world.
I need to work on my veil.
This is an I-Heart podcast.
