This is an I-Heart podcast.
Wilson is going to scramble.
Now throw in some touchdown Metcalf.
They're down in goal.
A lot of pressure wide open for the touchdown.
Chase Edmonds.
Here's Murray Satt.
And this ball game's going to end as Carlos Dunlap makes the play.
And there it is.
Dunlop crashes through the
offensive line, takes down
Kyler Murray, and it was
ball game at that point. 28, 21
Seahawks over the
Cardinals in Thursday night football
and a huge win for Seattle,
which needed a big defensive performance.
By golly, they got it.
Dan hands us here in the garage,
joined by two heroes.
Mark Sessler, and he expected him.
But how about Henry Hachin?
Yes, handsome, Hank.
Vice President of International and former Dave Damashek football program star.
Boys, I'll start with you, Henry.
The Seahawks really needed a game like this.
It kind of changes their season a little bit, potentially.
It did.
It was a great win for them, but it didn't come the way you would expect a Seahawks win to come.
It wasn't Russell Wilson balling out and throwing at the ball everywhere.
They got some strong play from their defense.
They got a running game that got going in a few different ways.
they managed to squeak the win over the Cardinals.
Yeah, it's like you've showed us what you are Seattle week after week
and we're letting Russ use the groceries and cook and all this business.
But tonight, Carlos Hyde, you know, who's been out of commission,
79 yards.
I thought to me the story of the game, though, was that we know what Arizona is on the ground.
It's Kyla Murray, and it was taken away.
He had the right shoulder, throwing arm's shoulder.
The trainer, you know, using the thumbs to need the shoulder after each.
series, but he was held on the ground to 15 yards. And if you come into a game knowing that that's
going to happen to Kyler Murray, that changed everything. And, you know, he was able to play until
the end and everything. But I'd wonder what sort of pain he's in coming out of this. I think a nice
little injection was put into the shoulder at some point. Potentially. And yeah, it changes so much
about their offense. The reason he finished five for 15 is Arizona and Cliff Kingsbury,
they're like, we just got to get him through this game. And, uh, and when you take,
the designed run plays out of the game plan.
Kyle Murray is still a fascinating player just based on his ability to scramble
and even sit in the pocket and make big throws.
But when you remove that element of his game,
it removes a lot of juice from the Arizona offense.
But let's not take anything away here from what Seattle did on defense because they
really had and they've had pockets this season where their defense is shown
signs of life. Of course, it's been historically bad for large stretches of the year.
But against San Francisco a couple weeks back, and I know Jimmy G. was hurt, so you put the
qualifier on that. But in this game, and yes, now Kyler Murray was banged up. But in this game,
still, in a game that had huge division ramifications to hold the Cardinals' offense to 314 yards
on 63 plays, that's exactly what they need, Hank. They don't, they need to set themselves up where
Russell Wilson doesn't have to be Superman every week.
And that's what they've done now.
And if they could build on this, they once again become to me an NFC contender.
Yeah.
I mean, I think that that's what they're able to do.
But it did come down to the fact that a large percentage of that Cardinals' offense was taken away.
So while it's possible for the Seahawks to defense.
You're not buying in.
I'm not buying in.
I don't think if you had healthy Kyla Murray doing Kyla Murray things, I don't think they
pull out a seven point win.
think they probably lose by some points.
Well, we were all sitting here basically just expecting it to go to overtime.
Exactly.
And rather surprised that it didn't.
And, you know, if you're Carlos Dunlop, you make that play at the end, the trade was
worth it.
I don't care what else happens within this year.
You know, you trade.
Whatever, whatever happens.
I mean, there are certain things that Carlos Dunlop could do that would maybe cause problems.
But, you know, on the field, let's.
No, I mean, the Dunlop trade has worked out for them.
They needed something, needed anything.
He essentially now has filled that Jadavian Clowny role from last year,
even if Clowny wasn't maybe the guy they expected him to be.
He now gives them a veteran past rushing presence.
I thought a big play in the game.
It happened right at the end.
Andy Isabella, who really hasn't done a ton of things in the league since coming in
as that second round pick in the Josh Rosen trade,
he flashes open heading toward the pylon in the final minutes.
He's there.
The throw, now you just need the quarterback to make the throw.
Murray's got a defender in his face, so you don't want to kill Murray for it.
But the way the ball hung up, it did make you think is that injury affecting him.
And I think that's the big takeaway for Cardinal sense.
First of all, you're thankful and you're counting your lucky stars that you somehow beat the bills last week because this loss would hurt even more if now you're riding a losing streak.
But now you have a bigger problem because as Kyleor Murray goes, the Cardinals go.
And if you're going to get a compromised version of him, that's going to essentially doom you in the NFC.
So we'll find out, you know, recording this right after the game.
We don't know what is status is, but they get essentially a half a buy week.
And it feels like, Hank, they're going to need every day to get their quarterback right.
Yeah, he'll need to be better.
I wonder what would have happened if that safety hadn't happened early in the fourth quarter.
Where could this game have gone?
because they punt
they obviously have the safety
they have to punt the ball back
to the Seahawks
yeah I think
I think you have a different matchup
if that hadn't happened
that was a tone shift
like Patrick Peterson
had a huge pass interference
I think we were sort of saying
to ourselves like Patrick Peterson
you know these cornerbacks
hit a point in time
where maybe you're not the same player
it's not that that tonight
was necessarily like a complete corner
in that direction for him
but he was culpable on that
I think the safety was huge.
I think that this was sort of a formless game
where you were waiting for something to become the separator.
And that, to me, was the play where I thought Seattle might break away,
but because it's the Seahawks, there is no breaking away.
It must go down to the final play.
And the Cardinals have that DNA too.
Well, I kept saying it repeatedly in the garage tonight.
You probably guys were like thinking to yourself,
inner monologue, shut up, Dan.
Shut the fuck up about it.
We get it.
Like you are totally fired up thinking that this game
shouldn't be this close.
But I was, I could not get over the fact that the Seahawks were in a position to be
going overtime because they so badly outplayed the Cardinals in this game.
So my big like overall above the treetops, Henry, I know you're corporate now.
Yeah, yeah.
You're up on the third floor there.
But I appreciate you opening the kimono this evening in your garage.
Tell us what is above the tree tops.
Go.
Tell me.
No, the above the tree tops viewpoint here is we open up the kimono.
is the Seahawks, I think, to me, are the best team in the NFC West if this defense continues to make improvements.
And they've been getting just incrementally better the last few weeks where they are not an embarrassment.
Because they were a straight embarrassment, let's be honest, for the first two months of the season.
If they can stay at this level or even a little bit below.
And then Russell Wilson, who didn't have a showy game tonight, but still quality, 23, or 28, 197, and two,
he's going to continue to be one of the best
quarterbacks in the league. They'll be okay.
I believe it. We talked about it on the Game Pass
International program, Mark, that we did
that you guys will be getting very shortly
overseas. I think the Seahawks win this
division. Mark, I think you picked the Cardinals.
Do you want to reassess that choice?
Are you still feeling good about Arizona? I know
Kyle and Murray's situation needs to be watched.
I mean, let's be honest, my Cardinals pick
came as an opportunity to switch my Super Bowl picks
at midseason. So if only a couple weeks later, I switched again to my credibility, which is already
in weird places, would swirl further down. But if you're the Cardinals, you've lost to Seattle
here, you've got the Patriots next, you've got two more games with the Rams and a bunch of
NFC East actions. So some good, some bad, but they're not going to be able to coast. I really think
this is a team with an undiscovered ceiling, but I'm not surprised to see them, you know, split games with
Seattle. I think Mark's Super Bowl pick, the Cardinals being one, the Dolphins being the other,
which I definitely appreciate. Mark, as always, is a step ahead of everyone. And I think for both
those two teams, but specifically the Cardinals from what we've seen this evening, maybe one year
away from being that kind of team. Sometimes I'm seven years away. Like, it's that far away.
Right. You can see that far into the future. And that's what makes you, you know, genius in my eyes.
Yeah. I might sign off on a Cardinals Dolphin Super Bowl in 2023.
Yeah, but that's what I'm saying.
Like, Mark's ahead of that curve.
Right, he's a little, yeah, you're almost too smart.
I mean, no, that's also just not getting the prediction right also because we are talking about this season, so.
Any other takeaways from tonight's action boys, including, you know, life in the garage here.
We are for everyone that may be wondering socially distance right now with the aid of long cords.
Well, you and Henry are just a little bit too close for comfort.
I know, I measured.
I measured.
We are.
And I've got a mask on.
as well we're six we got the garage door open but a portion of the audience would take that very
seriously so and yes i've been carefully watching uh marks tito's consumption so nothing over
the limit that would not allow it to talk into a mic as a broadcaster so everything is under
control i will say we try tonight we ordered some food oh delightful we got some ramen if anyone's in
the los angeles area the ramen joint i mean there's a ramen joint every like quarter mile
in Los Angeles.
But should we,
you want to give a plug?
Sure,
I just did, I think.
What's it called?
It's called the ramen joint.
Oh, see,
they got to be a little more.
Yeah.
See,
you got to really specify who you are.
No,
but in a way,
you've done it.
Like,
I like, which ramen joint do you like?
I like the ramen joint.
Sure, very unpoint.
You know, there's others,
but this is the right,
like the power rankings.
All right.
Henry,
I'll ask you,
who wins the NFC West.
I think the Seahawks do.
I think it'll be a close fight.
I think the Rams are going to drift out of contention
and starting this Monday night against the Buccaneers.
And then I think it comes down to the Seahawks and Cardinals,
and I think the Seahawks will do it.
All right, and you sticking with the Cardinals?
I'm going to stick with them.
Largely because I'm offended that suddenly Seattle switched its field name to Lumen Field out of nowhere.
That's a thing.
That's a problem.
Thank you, Mark.
That is my big takeaway from tonight.
What a disgrace.
And I understand it's a business.
I get it.
But, you know, the clink.
That was nice.
And I remember, and you boys remember when it was Questfield.
Quest Field.
Quest Field, that was, you know, fine.
But to switch it up, to do the old switcheroo and change it to Lumen Field.
Bad energy.
But to get that kind of a win at Lumen Field on the first night of Lumen Field, that's important.
That's a good counterpoint.
You know, the people over at LumenCorp are going to be super excited on their morning Zoom call tomorrow.
I'll be like, want to know, want to know is Lumen Corp.
That's the Lumen Experience.
That's the Lumen Experience.
Winners.
All right.
Are we going to get fired for that?
Anyway, good stuff.
2821, Seahawks moved to seven and three.
Cardinals dropped to six and four.
And the Seahawks, who said home field advantage is dead, they are five and oh at Century
Linkfield Slash.
Lumen. Lumen's off on a really a positive note. All right. Good stuff.
One other thing, because Carlos Dunlap got that sack at the end, can we get him a better number than 43?
Could he, can he at least go choose something in the 90s, maybe?
I mean, and don't forget, that's one of the gentlemen that I traveled through the countries of Italy and Germany with on the USO tour.
And I can only tell you as a quality individual.
Really? Did you maybe imbibe with him?
Did you get to bond with him?
I would say of all the people that we were involved with,
and there was a varied levels of behavior,
he was the most well-behaved of the group.
Okay.
Which factored into the trade, I would imagine.
You get a well-behaved pass-ruburned in 43.
All right, good to know.
Good to know.
But I'm with you, Henry.
90. How about 90?
90.
I don't know if that's available,
but if it is, we're going to make some phone calls.
Henry is a vice president here at NFL Media.
So I'm sure when you see Carlos Don't love,
wearing number 90 next week you'll know why
Dunlap probably chose 43 but Henry
is going to step in and change all that
All right boys
That's it and now that we have done our jobs
We could relax in the garage if we
If we choose to
Because we've been professionals to this point
And now we don't have to be professionals
After we have 37 seconds left to be professionals
And then we get to move on with the rest of our lives
Great
Are you ready for the countdown?
Here we go
Yeah this is what I usually say something that I regret
So I'm going to...
Very good.
All right.
This is Dan Hansa signing off for Handsome Hank and the Quiet Storm.
Remember, the rest of the Week 11 action will be recapped on the flagship show Sunday night.
But you already hear that.
In a show, enjoy your week.
Thank you.
