Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Welcome to NFL Daily, where we are always running from the law. I am Greg Rosenthal here, her man versus model, week eight, where we do our picks every week. We're here in the Chris Wesleyan podcast studio, me and Cynthia Freeland. tell everyone what you mean. Okay, I will. Because they're going to think it's seen. It's really about you.
Starting point is 00:00:35 I'm a little frazzled right now. My family is in the building and they're going to watch us tape game day view. And we're going to the Rams game. We're taping this ahead of time on Thursday. Did they get score predictions for the game? We are going to have a special guest later on in the show. Okay. We've got an extra microphone set up for the end of the show.
Starting point is 00:00:57 But yeah, I was trying to. come into the building through security, and we actually put their names in. Usually, we just kind of come in with, you know, not supposed to. Not really supposed to do that. I guess, but, you know, this time we tried to do it by the books and put everyone's name in. And when we got there, we found out that minors are not allowed into the building during weekdays, during school days, or something. There's some rule.
Starting point is 00:01:21 And I thought, okay, you know, my name's on the show now, NFL Daily with Greg Rosenthal. Like, I was like, oh, they're just going to come watch, watch doing the show. go to the game after. Okay, then they brought HR down. HR came down. A second level of people came down and they again got the no. Did you respond with football, it's family? I
Starting point is 00:01:41 just said, okay, thank you. And then we left and then we walked up three flights of stairs. And then we went in. We went in the same way that we always go in, which is just the front door essentially. And we've snuck. And yes, if my family gets taken away and
Starting point is 00:01:57 put in jail during this show. In jail. I will miss them. That's why Walker was saying as we were walking. I was like, can they put us in jail? I was like, no, I don't think so. Okay, this is our show where we go through and make three picks each and every week against the spread.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Sometimes I make a few extra. Every time I make a few extra at the end. I want to start with good news. Yeah. You have had three straight winning weeks. Heck yeah. You are over 500. You're ahead of me for the season, but only by a game.
Starting point is 00:02:24 I've had two straight winning weeks. So either way, we are picking winners. And yes. You go first. You go first. I'll go Packers minus three and a half. Yep. Okay. Okay. There's a whole thing that's happening each and every week
Starting point is 00:02:38 where a team plays the Patriots and then after they play the Patriots, everyone thinks they're good because the Patriots are so bad. We saw the Jets. I was foolish enough to be like, oh, this is one of the biggest moments of the season. The Jets are a real team now. No.
Starting point is 00:02:53 No. Think about other teams that the Patriots have played after that matchup. Basically, every time you play the Patriots, you think you've got it going. San Francisco, like, okay, they finally got it going. They're rolling. They crushed the next week. They play the Cardinals.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Like, every team is going to look good against the Patriots. The Dolphins, they beat the Patriots. So maybe they got it back on track. No, they go right back to losing after that. This is the number 32 defense in the NFL, according to DVA. That's in Jacksonville. I am not falling for that they had a slightly better game against New England. They didn't even look good.
Starting point is 00:03:24 That's all I really need to know is that this Packers team versus the number 32 defense, in the NFL. Matt Lafleur is just putting up pictures of these Jaguars linebackers on the wall and he's saying, which one am I going to pick on next? Like, I don't even care if Foye Olucon is back for this game. Which one am I going to pick on next in coverage? Jeff Hefley, the defensive coordinator for the Packers, I think is doing a good job. He was at BC before. Yes, creating pressure, simulated pressures. So that is going up against an average Jaguars offense, but it's really about the Packers offense going up against the Jaguars defense. Also, this is a very healthy team.
Starting point is 00:04:00 One of the few teams, you know, knock on wood, then you look on the injury report, almost no one is going to be out for this game. Like Carrington Valentine is their only significant player out. Let's go Packers minus three and five. Okay. Feel great. All right.
Starting point is 00:04:11 All right. Your first pick. This will be your first pick. Let's just go with Pittsburgh minus six and a half. Mm, okay. Pittsburgh, by a touchdown, I like it. It's not that I don't like the Giants. I just don't think they're very good.
Starting point is 00:04:24 Dexter Lawrence, there's some... For our purposes, that is not liking them. Well, I like the franchise. I like the ownership. They treat people really well. They've got people there who really care. And Dexter Lawrence is awesome. None of that matters for this spread, though.
Starting point is 00:04:38 I didn't pick this spread. I'm just saying that I think that Pittsburgh, especially with Russell Wilson, now that we saw the trajectory from the beginning of the game to the end last week against the Jets, things just got better and better. I think this is a situation where Pittsburgh by a touchdown feels very achievable in a game that I think right now it's at 36 and a half. I think it'll be a higher scoring game than that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:00 I like that too because Daniel Jones really missed Andrew Thomas' left tackle last week. And now you think about the matchup against TJ Waugh and Alex Highsmith, who might be lining up on that side, who was healthy and played last week. And this front, just Daniel Jones has not gotten anything going the last couple of weeks. So it's just hard to see them scoring enough points. I'm with you. I'm going to go AFC North here. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:24 Bengals minus two and a half Now I know you disagree with this I have a feeling I do. I do. Yeah. That's good. Yeah, it's good. It's definitely good.
Starting point is 00:05:34 The Eagles are rickety. They are rickety. They're not as good as their record. They're four and two if you look like DVOA, for instance, has about 20th for the scene. That actually is how it feels to me. They're about a slightly below average offense,
Starting point is 00:05:48 maybe average, below average defense have played well the last two weeks against bad opponents. Now they're playing against Joe Burrow. We'll see if those defensive improvements the Eagles have had will stay consistent. But this was one where I just looked at the numbers
Starting point is 00:06:04 and I just thought it'd be three and a half. Sometimes you have a feel of like what the numbers are going to be. And to me, if they're giving two, two and a half points for home field, they're basically saying these two teams are even. And as, you know, Adam Sandler said, I disagree. You know, I disagree. that these two teams. He's the only one to ever say that. Here's the thing. My only problem with that, and this is the one thing. And you talk about the defensive improvements.
Starting point is 00:06:35 It's 13 sacks over the past two games after they're by. Yes. So that's a really big uptick and pressure. Now, is that Fugazi or not? We will find out because the Bengals allow the second lowest pressure rate on their quarterback. However, on the times they do get pressure on the quarterback, it turns into a sack at a very high rate. So it's kind of all or nothing. when it comes to if the pressure works and results in a sack or not. And I'm curious to see if there are enough different weapons. So will the run game be enough against that front? I just think that the Eagles get up for some like really
Starting point is 00:07:06 weird games and they're a very inconsistent team. But this is like what Vic Fangio does. Like this is the as you know, whatever we've seen for years. There's these games where they rarely play each other. They're not even in the same conference. This is where Vic Fangio's like, you know what? I actually have the
Starting point is 00:07:22 perfect antidote to Joe Burrow. And you know what? He has a hard defense to learn and we've seen it over time. That takes a little while to get going. And they've gotten it going since the by week. They have improvements. It's really not so much about the defense. It's about the Eagles offense. I just watched Jalen Hertz and
Starting point is 00:07:38 he's just not comfortable right now. I don't think he's seeing the field right now. And I think missing his left tackle is a big deal against Trey Hendrickson. Sam Hubbard's playing better. And yeah, I just think the bagels. Big one still there though. Yeah. No, I get it. This is not one where I think it's crazy.
Starting point is 00:07:52 It's just if it was three and a half, I probably would have ignored it. It's more, I do not think these two teams are equal. I think the Bengals are a better football team than the Eagles, so I will take them at home. And by the way, how dare you besmirch the name of Adam Sandler
Starting point is 00:08:08 and his character in the movie Uncut Gem? I'm definitely not besmirching. It's a gambling movie. So I think some of our listeners would even recognize it. And it's just, I disagree. It's my Adam Sandler question. You have to do it with more like Goose. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Okay. You're up. I'm up. Okay. Houston and six points. So Houston by a touchdown, baby. I think against Indianapolis. I think my son Walker, who's not really paying attention right now. I think he's on his computer. Maybe he is paying attention. I will agree with that because he is a big Texans fan as well. Why do you like the Texans this week over Jacksonville? I mean, over Indianapolis.
Starting point is 00:08:47 They won that game was close in week one. Texans Colts division matchup. They've been pretty close over the last couple of years, splitting games. mostly. Yep. Why do you like the Texans? I think this is like the what happens to good quarterback's trajectory, meaning when you're really good,
Starting point is 00:09:01 and you don't even necessarily need to be as good as offensive rookie of the year, but when you're really good, defenses specifically figure out ways to stop you. Remember when everyone was like, hey, good news. Here's the thing. We're never giving single high coverage to Patrick Mahomes. Well, now they're doing that same type of thing with CJ Stroud. They're figuring out ways to specifically adapt to his unique skills.
Starting point is 00:09:20 What are you laughing at? The family is now apparently being. escorted out of the building. We were going to have Walker come on the show and they're getting booted. I'll see you guys in in 15 minutes. Oh my goodness. It's good for the show. It's a good story. Unreal. He's so cute. Man, they're going to have so much time. Also, they're going to the game. Yeah. Can't you call like Stan Cronkey? I mean, don't you have like a line into him. Isn't he our landlord? Like, I don't have any lines into anyone. This is sad. I've done a bad job as a parent and as an important. You really tried though.
Starting point is 00:09:54 I can't believe it. I'm sorry. Maybe they were like popping up on the cameras. That's kind of exciting to think about it. I'm so sad. Walker was going to take the Texans too. Oh, perfect. He was going to come in and make a pick.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Makes me feel better. I like it. Not allowed. My final pick will be the bucks plus two and a half. I love that we're just doing the show and let's just get through it. I thought, like, no, it's not bucks two and a half, actually. It's going to be Denver minus nine. I changed my mind at the last minute.
Starting point is 00:10:22 I like that. Denver minus nine. Here's how many games the Panthers have lost by nine points or less this season. Zero. There's not one. Their six losses are by the final score or result that they lost by 37, 23, 10, 26, 37, 18, 33. That's crazy. That was like my locker combination growing up, like 37, 10, 33, something like that.
Starting point is 00:10:48 But here's the other thing with Bryce Young. I don't know. It just makes it even worse for me. Right. They didn't want him to start. No, they didn't want to like, I think. Andy Dalton's better. I know Andy Dalton's had hand injury, whatever.
Starting point is 00:11:02 You know, some bad games the last couple games, relatively. But the reason why he was starting was because he was better. And we saw that he was better for a couple weeks. And he was still. This Denver defense is not messing around either. It is so good. They have a little extra rest because they're coming off of T. Pat Sir Tan.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Yes. Is Sir Tanley back? He's coming back. Barron Browning came back last week. Aaron Browning on his thigh pads has the Grim Reaper because he's coming after quarterback souls. Very Halloween themed. Just so everyone knows.
Starting point is 00:11:31 I still am. I can't believe they were just taken away. And I can't believe we're still doing this podcast. Let's wrap up with your third pick here. Okay. Last but not least, did-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. You know what?
Starting point is 00:11:44 I think this one's weird because it's a seven, but the Jets. I think the Jets, unfortunately, beat your Patriots by Elisa. down because I think this is where the, you know, we saw the Devante Adams thing start to happen. And we've seen Aaron Rogers you, the world's biggest words this year. I don't even, like, I was reading that presser and I was like, uh, de Nouan, I speak French too. And I didn't even I, I sure. What do what it means? What does it mean? Uh, it means like the end of something
Starting point is 00:12:11 or just like a fitting conclusion to something. I don't know, like the closing chapter. That's what I think it means, but you're putting me on the spot. Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I thought You knew. I mean, most of the listeners might not know that he used big words. Dainouement. Okay. Danumal. The day new ma'am of this podcast.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Don't you think the Patriots, maybe they'll respond to Jared, Drodme O'Sane, that they were soft. Is he going to play? No. That would be better. They've been so bad. I initially had them in my little box of extra picks at plus seven, just that the Jets, man, do the Jets deserve to be a seven point favorite over anyone?
Starting point is 00:12:47 I know they destroyed the Patriots. time around. Usually it's tough to destroy a team twice. Like, the second game would be close when you play twice in close. Except for the, it's not really a, like, they're not as soft as Gerard Mayo is saying. Like, they're playing with guys we've never even heard of before. Right. Especially on the offensive line. I mean, there's a lot to be happy about with Drake May, but then on the other side, it's like the old line's confusing. The defense, like all of their best defensive players
Starting point is 00:13:10 are on their couch or, you know, on the sideline. Like, it's not, we're there, you know, in other teams like in Atlanta. I can't imagine the I'm going to get from my wife, Emeka, about this entire thing. I blew it. I'm in big trouble. So that's my last pick with the Panthers.
Starting point is 00:13:29 You got the jet. What if I go distract? Should I go distract? No, that part is over. We blew it. And I don't know. I don't know how they found us here hiding out in the control room,
Starting point is 00:13:40 but I will try. I'll find out soon. Wait, did you pick your third one? Just go quick. You don't even have... It was the Denver minus 9. So to review, I took the past. backers minus three and a half. I took the Bengals minus two and a half and I took the Broncos minus
Starting point is 00:13:52 nine. I have two straight winning weeks. Great. And your picks were the Jets minus seven. The Steelers minus six and a half. And then what was the first pick? Houston. Houston. That was me and Walker. I like that a lot. My little extra picks by the way, which haven't been doing as well lately, one and two last week. We're at 12 and seven for the season. These are just little, just if you're curious for a little extra analysis. One they do like, I like the bucks as a home under dog this week. I just think it's going to be tough. Again, a division matchup where you're trying to sweep a team. I think the foundation of that offense is actually really good in terms of the offensive line and the scheme. And so that they can maybe surprise people. I hate this
Starting point is 00:14:31 Falcons defense. Their pass rush. I just don't think they're a good team. I kind of like the Saints getting seven points in Los Angeles against the Chargers. They have about five or six healthy starters coming back this week. Just don't know if the Chargers are worth the way they play football. Seven points is a lot. And then, yeah, I agreed with you on Washington. So that was another one. We both kind of like Washington as a little extra pick. Yeah. I like Washington. And if Jane Daniels was playing, it is a great pick. Either way, we like it. I'm feeling, I'm feeling like, uh, sorry. I don't know what to say. I like go get, go fix the family. I will try to get the family back together. Family first. That's it. We will be back on Sunday
Starting point is 00:15:10 with our recap show. That's it for the week. Love everyone.
