Check out Behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club. San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team. We need to embrace this community. Listen to San Diego FC. Behind the Flow.
Starting point is 00:01:57 on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Ocho, Eagles, Jim, High Roseman speaks on the mistake and the regret of not jafting Justin Jefferson. I think there's one who's pretty obvious. One guy didn't draft that's going to the Hall of Fame. The mistakes kill me. It made me think, why are we picking certain guys?
Starting point is 00:02:25 But if we don't make that mistake like that, we probably don't play in two Super Bowls in the last three years. Don't overthink things. When you're staring at a good player, just take them. Not drafting JJ, still haunts him to this day.
Starting point is 00:02:39 Yes. Because think about who you took. Look, the guy that he took, I played with his father, Monta Regger. Jalen Regger is his son. Yes, sir. He got in awe of all the jumping high
Starting point is 00:02:53 and running fast, and he overlooked the production that J.J. Jetta gave him on the field. I asked Ozzy Newsom, who's one of the best GMs to do it, drafted Jonathan, his first two players he ever selected with Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis. Right. He selected Suggs. He selected Lamar Jackson. He selected Ed Reed.
Starting point is 00:03:16 We know what he's been able to do. And I asked him to say, Ozzy, Suggs, Ocho, he said Sugs ran 485. with tight and track spikes. I said, well, why the hell you take a man that run 4-8-5? He said, Shana, somebody got 23 sacks, I saw. Right. Somebody could be in the edge. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:38 I don't need to run 40 yards. I just need to run 10. Right. And he can get off the ball. So I believe, he said, I'd never forget this. He said, I believe what my eyes tell me. He says, yes, when I'm watching film and a guy looks fast, he looks explosive, He looks strong.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Hopefully he comes to the combine. Hopefully he tests well. But if he doesn't, I base most of what I judge it on by what I see on tape. I'm going to trust my eyes. How he didn't trust his eyes. He got enamored by Ocho,
Starting point is 00:04:11 43, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, he got enamored by 40 plus edge vertical. He got enamored by things that doesn't necessarily equate to be able to, because if that was the case, hell, I just go get. get me a track guy. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Do you see when Noah Liles is warming up? Did you see how high he jumps up in the damn air? Yeah. His feet, his heels are at the height of somebody's head. So that lets you know, first of all, if a guy that fast, you know he's explosive, Ocho. Yeah, absolutely. Look at Tyreek.
Starting point is 00:04:40 You say Tyreek did them backflip. You say, you got to see this joke in. Yes, you can tell he's explosive. Yes, so. Go ahead, what you're going to say, but what you think about how he said, admitting that he made a mistake not drafting Jenna. Well, you know, that happens.
Starting point is 00:04:55 That happens. Obviously, it's the eye test. When it comes to scouts, GMs, coaches, and personnel in general, based off the eye test and not looking at numbers, you look at Justin Jefferson, and you look at Jalen Rigger, and you'll pick Jalen Rigger based on what you see when it comes to the aesthetics of the position in itself. So I can understand where he calls it a mistake. Actually, it's not a mistake because let's say you did go get jealous, you might not have the Super Bowls that you have. You know, you might not, you know, things would have been different. So everything went exactly how it was supposed to go, actually. But I'm upset.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Well, he stumbled into it because guess what? The next year, DeMonte Smith came out and he was able to trade down and get DeVonte Smith. And a couple of years later, you trade and you get A.J. Brown. So you got your big two. Mm-hmm. It did work herself out. I was kind of upset. I really wanted, I really wanted Brother Jalen Rager to be great at the position.
Starting point is 00:05:53 because he had all intangibles to be just that. Yes. One of the things with him is mentally. Mentally, I think he had lost his confidence at some point, and he just wasn't able to regain it back because he has all the potential in the world to be one of the best in the league. He just wasn't able to put it all together. Hey, okay, Ocho, do you think they put too much emphasis
Starting point is 00:06:15 on, like, the testing, the combine? Yeah, when it comes of football, meaning because there are some guys, who will not test well when it comes to come by agility quickness vertical. But when you put them in between the lines, the lights come on,
Starting point is 00:06:33 they just know how to play, bro. You know what I mean? That's for basketball and football. But I see that a lot of guys this year, obviously, from watching Shadour, you know, I know I know we talk about him a lot, but he looks like one of those type of guys. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:06:49 When you get him in between the lines, he just knows how to play, bro. You know what I mean? hell not, he probably ain't going to test well and no combine and no 40 or no vertical leap or none of that, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. If somebody goes to the combine, they might not be,
Starting point is 00:07:04 we just had a tearing armstead. He goes to the combine and run 4-6. Now people looking at him. Yeah. You get a guy goes there and they might not be hurt or he might be a low. Go run 4-3. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Because I can teach you everything else. I can teach you to catch. I can teach you the back pedal. I can teach you to drop. I can't teach you how to run fast. Either you got that in you or you don't. But also, also as a gift and a curse, being able to run that goddamn fast and then believing you becoming a project coming to the NFL,
Starting point is 00:07:34 well, we can teach you all intangibles to become a great player, whatever position you do play. Sometimes it's hard. Sometimes it's too late because if you're already in the NFL and you've been able to get by, you've been able to get by without the technique all this time. Yeah. If you got the technique at the next level, you don't get exposed anyway, no matter how goddamn fast you are.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Unk, at that next level, everybody run 4-3 at the skill position damn down there. Everybody, even the people that run 4-5 or run 4-6 that play receiver or not, they know how to manipulate all those that are fast to be able to get open and create separation. So speed is just an ad. It's like having a car, unc, and you're throwing rims on there.
Starting point is 00:08:14 And once you put it, okay, that's the speed in general. It's great to have, but you don't necessarily need to be successful at what you do. Let me know when to use it. Yeah. Have you ever heard anybody say size kill? Have you ever heard somebody say strength killed?
Starting point is 00:08:31 What do they say kill, Ocho? Speed. Yeah. Yeah. Speed. I can't teach you that. They say, well, he's talking, no, no, no, no, no. I can teach you technique to make you faster than what you are.
Starting point is 00:08:45 But that's in you. Right. If you think somebody like got that, Usain boat was already. fast. Yes, sir. It was always in him. He just found somebody to get it out of him. Yes, sir. So now, Ocho, you look at it, we look
Starting point is 00:09:01 at guys and they're like, man, what does everybody say? Ain't nobody said I want to do 24 reps. Ain't nobody said I want to do 40-inch vertical. Right. Everybody say, I want to run 4-3. I want to run 4-2. Because that's what's going to grab
Starting point is 00:09:16 the attention. Right. Right. With Chris Johnson ran that 4-2-4, yeah yeah John Rawls got drafted in the first round because he ran 4-2-2 yeah
Starting point is 00:09:30 he couldn't stay healthy in college yeah so if you can't Ocho if you can't stay healthy in college what makes you think you're gonna be able
Starting point is 00:09:38 to stay healthy in NFL yeah right Xavier Worthy yeah he goes to run 421 Ocho yeah
Starting point is 00:09:46 whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa yeah moving I got a question. Go ahead. Excuse me if I'm wrong, Joe. Hey, when you watch Xavier Worthy, despite his 40 time,
Starting point is 00:10:01 he doesn't look, he doesn't look as explosive. It's Tyree. He does not. Tyree looked like, it's like right now, bomb, he's gone. But Xavier Worthy ran a faster combine time, but he doesn't look that fast until he gets going on the field. Yeah, he's a buildup guy.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Right. You know, some car, though, until you just step, like an electric versus gas. Right. Yeah. Like if anybody out there to have an electric car, you know you step on it. It doesn't require that spark. Right.
Starting point is 00:10:30 It's gone. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You look at Tyreek. Tyreek, look. When you watch Tyreek run, when you watch the very first time, I say, damn, he looked. I said, maybe it's me. I said, but some people just look fast.
Starting point is 00:10:46 You know what I'm saying? No, Joe. We see him. And it's one thing to like to see a, person up close and personal, but to watch somebody from the television and say, damn, he looked fast. Imagine the person.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Tyreek looks explosive. You could tell, but you can tell the way he built. Right. Look at how compact he is. Look at the muscle, the musculature. You can tell the way he walked. Oh, yeah. You can look at certain guys. Oh, he could do a backflip.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Yeah. He could do certain things. That's how Tyree looks like that. Exactly. Xavier Ward is fast, but you've got to realize Xavier Worth is, what, 160? Tyreek, like 190. Really? You think so? Tyree?
Starting point is 00:11:29 Yeah. He lost weight. He lost, remember he said that he dropped weight. Right, right. So he might be like 180, 180, 185. Yeah, so he might be. Xavier Worthy like 165. Yeah. And you know who Xavier Worthy might remind me of?
Starting point is 00:11:43 Who did? They play the same type of runner style. They have the same gate to. And it looked like they're not running. until somebody trying to catch him or the ball is in the air, that goddamn Ted Ginn. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:54 Yeah, Ted. Yes. Yeah. You remind you, I don't know if you remember him, Ocho, James Jett. Yeah, from the Raiders. From the Raiders, yeah. James Jett was alternate on the 4 by 1
Starting point is 00:12:07 that won the gold medal in 92 at the Olympics. Uh-huh. Lord, have mercy. Because, you know, the Raiders always been enamored with speed. Yeah. They've always had guys that can run fast. They had Willie Gaunt, who they had Sam Grady,
Starting point is 00:12:22 who won the silver medal in the Olympics was on the 4x4 in 80, Dada. They had swerving Mervyn for Nandads. They've always had guys that could fly at that position. You remember when they drafted Darius Hayward Bay, Ocho, because he ran 4-3-2. Oh, yeah. Now, catching the football was a problem.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Running fast was not a problem. Okay, look, because you can have all that speed, but if you don't know how to use it and get open, hell, it's useless. It is. And I tell people, man, you're not that fast. I say, all speed do is get you to the safety faster to get knocked out. That's a good one. This four, this four five, four six is leading fast enough.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Yeah, it is. All you do it is get to that safety. So you drop the ham on you. But look, you're going to make a mistake. But think about what you've done. You drafted Jalen Hertz. You drafted Jalen Carter. You drafted Jordan Davis.
Starting point is 00:13:18 You joined Cuba DeJon. You drafted Landon Dickinson. Look at the guy. You found Jordan Milotta. Look at the guy. Damn. How are you what you want to be? Howard, the baseball player, that man, that he struck out,
Starting point is 00:13:31 he doesn't got three home runs and a double. He straight out of the land's plate appears. He's like, damn, I messed up. Bro. Howie. Bro, you doubt. DeBonte Smith. Look at the pigs that he's got, no, Joe,
Starting point is 00:13:46 since he got that wrong. Listen, he's playing humble. Obviously, I don't think Howie even understands. Listen, I'm not a part of NFL offices or management or GMs or people in positions of power. But if anything, with Howie and Jeffrey Lurie have done the past, what, five, six years? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:06 They're the goddamn blueprint on how to operate and build a winning team. I mean, to me, look at the defense. Hell, look at the offense. So if I'm in the NFL and I'm an executive of some sort, hey, we need to piggyback and steal what they're doing over here. It's a copycat league anyway. Absolutely. On the field, people watching film and stealing stuff that works the previous week
Starting point is 00:14:29 on the opponent that you're playing. Yeah, they might as well do the same thing. It's easy to say it than done. You don't think, hey, man, I can do that. I might as well cross over the country, but you're not Beyonce. But, man, you see what Michael, you're not Michael. You're not Prince. You're not Usher.
Starting point is 00:14:45 So it's easy to say this is what you should do. Right. But you're not one of them to be able to do it. It's easy to say, man, you see what Howie doing, but you ain't got Howie's eye. You don't know what Howie's looking for when he looks for a particular player. Yeah, it's easy to say, man, look at Ozzy. How many Hall of Fame did he draft?
Starting point is 00:15:03 Yeah. Jonathan Ogden and Ray Lewis on, I think, the all 70th anniversary team. And read also. So you got three guys that's on the 100th anniversary team. Yeah. Three guys, first ballot Hall of Famer. Suggs is going to be in the Hall of Fame. Lamar Jackson is going to be in the Hall of Fame.
Starting point is 00:15:20 The funny thing when I think about it, Joe, is Joe just said it clear as day earlier. When the lights are on, what do they look like in between those lines on the grass? There's a lot of film on everybody before you're drafting. Yeah. Hell, goddamn, it's common sense. I don't care what you ran the 40 in.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Let's say you did run a slow time. How am I going to knock you when I know what I'm getting when it's time to play the actual game of football? The game of football isn't, it's not, it's not played in the straight line anyway. This ain't track, Unk. So having speed is just another great factor to add to what you can do. But if you don't-Jar Rice might be the slowest receiver in the hall, Ocho. Huh?
Starting point is 00:15:58 Jerry Rice might be the slowest receiver in the hall. Yeah, he ran four-six. Technical sound. Rampo-6, he was technically sound, but, Unk, he had something we call football speed. That's what you need. Football speed. It's a difference. And we know Emmett might be the slowest running back.
Starting point is 00:16:14 Yeah. He got the most rushing yards. Yeah. Yeah. So when you look at it, we do. We put a lot of emphasis on speed, Ocho. But at the end of the day, can you play the game of football? That's it.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Right. That's it. I'll listen, this ain't Olympics. Hey, we got Olympians. We're going to let Noah Lives. We're going to let kid have been there. We're going to let ride. We're going to let the whole hell of that.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Can you play football? Because at the end of the day, we play a game called football. And it's not in a straight line. You would have to move. You would have to be, you're going to have to react. And the number one thing, you can't be a, look, there's a certain level. It's hard to say a player is soft because it takes a certain type of crazy.
Starting point is 00:16:56 It takes a certain type of person to play the game of football. Well, not anymore. Not doing your error, doing my area, doing my error, it takes a certain level of crazy. The way the game is now, where it's favored and is handicapped the defense, Man, you got players out there catch him with one hand, man. That's why you see all of them going across the middle. Hey, and take your selfie.
Starting point is 00:17:17 You got guys in the top of the way. Boy, they're a buff. Boy, Joe back in the 2000s, boy. In the early 2000s and before. Going from that middle? Going across that middle? Alligator arms. Man, listen.
Starting point is 00:17:38 Is that man? Hey guys, it's AZ Fudd. You may know me as a gold medalist. You may know me as an NCAA national champion and recent most outstanding player. Starting point is 00:21:22 Terry McLaurin came off the Pup list amid contract tensions with the commanders. Despite the contract standoff hold-in's trade request, Terry McLaurin will soon be practicing with the commanders. The team announced today that he has been activated from the Pup list. Ocho, could
Starting point is 00:21:38 The tarry removal from the pub list means contract extension is on the way. Yeah, probably. Probably something is looming. They're almost there. It's probably not where it needs to be. But the fact that they think they can gun to practice is a good thing. He'll be able to get two weeks under his belt, if I'm not mistaken. He'll be able to get two weeks under his belt before he's able to play in a live game,
Starting point is 00:22:04 which would be September, I'm assuming what, September, what, 7th maybe or 13th? What, that, Ocho? Huh? What at? No, in a live game, a real game. He didn't miss the preseason. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know he definitely not going to play.
Starting point is 00:22:22 The last preseason game, no. So I'm hoping, I'm hoping I pray once he gets paid, no setbacks, no injuries. It's going to be so different. It's going to be so different. The fact that he wouldn't have to go through training camp. Ocho, you took the word right out of my mouth. I'm saying to myself and I'm thinking to myself and I say I know Ocho thinking this. Man, I could not imagine not playing a meaningful game in eight, nine months.
Starting point is 00:22:50 And my first real game is going to be a real game. I couldn't imagine it, Ocho. I wouldn't want that. No, hell no. I would tell, honestly, I would tell my agent, listen, if we get this deal done, I'm going to go practice if there's a chance that we get this deal done
Starting point is 00:23:11 I'm going to go practice because I need people pushing I need people pulling I need to be fighting through contact right man forget that man because
Starting point is 00:23:21 I'm telling you the body would tear up the body will tear up trying to go from zero to 100 without putting it through that rigamar road that's what I'm called you got you got to
Starting point is 00:23:34 condition your body for the stresses that is going to endure during the season. In order to run fast, you've got to practice fast. You hear what she said, hey, I wanted to be on the ground. It's hard. Would you miss that kind of time, Ocho? You're not going to miss that kind of time and just pick right up. It's just not.
Starting point is 00:23:56 And I agree with you. You kind of like, you just hold your breath like, man, please, no soft tissue injury, no soft tissue. no soft tissue injuries please no groin no quas no hamstring no calves no adductors none of that because like you said ocho you're going just like that yeah you've been cruising you've been cruising and then all of a sudden you step on the gas out the blue and what normally happens something got to give yep Man, but hopefully they can come to an agreement real soon.
Starting point is 00:24:40 The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs could make NFL and Super Bowl history this upcoming season. There have only been one instance in which two franchises played each other three times in the Super Bowl, and that's the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, 75, 79, 95. After the Eagles face one another two or the three big games, the Chiefs are currently to have the highest odds to be a matchup for Super Bowl, what is that, 60?
Starting point is 00:25:04 60 in February of 26. This would make the franchises the second of their kind to play one another on three separate occasions on the biggest stage to add no other quarterbacks in the history. No quarterbacks have ever faced each other three times in the Super Bowl, something Jalen Hertz
Starting point is 00:25:22 and Patrick Mahomes have a chance to do. I mean, it sounds good, but you want me tell you coming out of the AFC this year? You got to worry about winning your division. You ain't coming out of nowhere. Have you noticed the Bengals have been playing in the preseason, right?
Starting point is 00:25:46 Yep. Okay. All I know is when L. Jack is on the field, Cincinnati can't win. I just want to remember. When L. Jack is on the field, Cincinnati can't win. This is the new year. You think about the past. I'm trying to understand.
Starting point is 00:26:04 And why are you thinking about the past? And this is 20, we in 2025, you're telling me what the Baltimore Ravens did in the past. History. I did what happened this year. The Cincinnati Bengals, for the first time in years, have let the starters play in the preseason. That's to let you know that there's going to be a difference come week one when the regular season starts. So what the Ravens did last year or any years before that don't mean nothing and don't matter when it comes to football. season in
Starting point is 00:26:35 2025. Okay. Yeah. Your defense still suspect. Team record after winning the MVP in 2016, here's we go. Cam won the MVP in 2015.
Starting point is 00:26:52 2016, they were 6 and 10. Matt Ryan wanted in 2016. They were 10 and 6 in 2017. Tom Brady won it in 2017. They were 11 and 5. Patrick Mahomes won it in 2018. they were 12 and 4. Lamar Jackson, in 2019, they were 11 and 5.
Starting point is 00:27:09 Rogers went in back-to-back years. In 2020, they were 13 and 4, and in 2021, they were 8 and 9. Mahomes won it again in 2022, 11 and 6. Lamar Jackson, 23, they were 12 and 5. Josh Allen, 24, remained to be seen what their record will be. Right, right. Zach Wilson put together a solid start in Dolphin's second preseason game.
Starting point is 00:27:33 He completed 15 or 23. passes, 151 yards and a touchdown. He missed a couple of would-be touchdowns. Deep pass to the Eskridge that was underthrown. Rookie Quinn Ewart improved on
Starting point is 00:27:48 his debut, completing 11 of 16 with a pair of touchdown to fellow rookie Theo Weitz, Jr. Hey, wait, who did you say had a great debut? What's the name again? The first name you said. Oh, Zach Wilson
Starting point is 00:28:04 Completed 15 and 23. Yeah. Zach Wilson. Zach Wilson, that's my dog. That's my dog. Okay. You do realize if he plays for the dolphins, y'all probably,
Starting point is 00:28:17 y'all are not going to the playoffs, right? We're going to be straight. We'll be there. We'll be there. But again, Zach Wilson looked good today. He did. Quinn Errors, based on how he looked last week.
Starting point is 00:28:29 He was yours. He looked better this week. Yes, he did. That's what you want to see. Yes, you want to see improvement. Exactly, exactly. So I like it. I think dolphins, they're coming out of the AFCEs.
Starting point is 00:28:44 What do you think about that? I think you drank a hunch punch. If you think they're beating Buffalo. That's what I think about that. I think you owe something. At your face, boy, that was funny. That's what I think. I think you owe something.
Starting point is 00:29:04 Hold on. So you're not, whoa, wait a minute. I don't like the, I don't like the way you, you sound, whereas if you're trying to say
Starting point is 00:29:12 the Dolphins don't have any chance in the AFC East. Look, they play football. Anything can happen. You ain't going to put no money that the Dolphins going to be the NFC East representative
Starting point is 00:29:25 going to win that division. So you're telling me, you've already given Buffalo the division already? And we don't know what's going to happen? Are you just saying that because they have... Take the team with the best quarterback. Okay.
Starting point is 00:29:41 All right. I like where you're going. I'm taking the team with the best quarterback. I like where you're going. I'm taking Josh Allen over every other quarterback in that division. Tua. Oh, Justinville. You're taking Josh Allen over Drake, mate?
Starting point is 00:29:58 Yeah. You sure? Yeah. Okay. I just want to see what you're going to say. Okay. Okay. Sure am. Okay. So when Drake May and he goddamn Stefan Diggs
Starting point is 00:30:12 looked like Mark Dan Marino and Mark Dooper and Clayton, then what you're going to say? They still got to do something with Josh Allen. Okay. Be. All right. Tell somebody. Josh Allen.
Starting point is 00:30:33 it is him. I wish I'll tell you something different. Hold on. Are you trying to say my quarterback is not him? You're trying to say two is not him? Can't stay healthy. Can't play in the cold. I don't like your attitude.
Starting point is 00:30:49 I don't like your tone. They got to do it be. I don't. You better tell me to get used to playing in the cold. The funny thing, the fact that you have no confidence in us. I mean, that was. I got a confidence. I mean, y'all going to play the game.
Starting point is 00:31:02 But I ain't put no money. I wouldn't put no money on y'all to win the division. I would not. Y'all probably got great odds, too. You wouldn't put money on the, on the dolphins, the dolphins. Nope. We had what? Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:21 All right. The answer is no. Listen, I can't, I can't wait. I can't wait till football season. Me either. I can't wait for football season because we're going to have some nice little side bets. I'm going to pay this time. just like you did last time i'm going to make them small i'm going to make them small
Starting point is 00:31:41 uh ashton gentie had seven carries for 33 yards at elcho his 13 yard run was part of an eight play 41 yard score and drive that ended ended with him piring his win to the end zone for one yard touchdown after the game gentie said i've arrived and it's time to keep going and make plays for this team i don't know if i've ever heard heard somebody say, I've arrived in the preseason, but I'm going to take his word for it. He ran with authority today. I like the run he had. Punished the defender, lower the shoulder.
Starting point is 00:32:10 I mean, he run with power. I mean, he's not an overly big guy. I mean, what's he? Five, eight, five, nine. But he's powerfully built. You look at the way he's built from weights down. Yeah. You can tell he's a power, he's a power runner. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:32:27 But listen, hey, I saw I saw one of the clips, or somebody somebody caught him I saw the one we ran dude over but on the other side somebody caught him good
Starting point is 00:32:38 did it oh yeah I don't know if that was a safety coming down here I don't know who it was but you
Starting point is 00:32:44 might want to get word to him you got to pick and choose your battles now yeah he's not been to run through
Starting point is 00:32:50 you're not been to run through people like you did at Boise in state it's a preseason he doesn't he doesn't understand yet
Starting point is 00:32:57 so you're gonna learn real quick where it's growing in at that way. Yeah. So, but I thought, you know, look, like Gino, Gino had great command of the offense. Gino is very, very familiar with Pete Carroll.
Starting point is 00:33:18 That's a good thing. We got him. So it's going to be interesting to see how the Raiders do look. That division is good. Yeah, very good. Got Mahomes in that division. They won the division, probably like, what, the last eight years?
Starting point is 00:33:32 They probably won the division every year since, what, 2016? Is it 2018? I thought it was. Yeah, you got to realize because they had Alex Smith, they won the division. Yeah. They won the division every year, Patrick Mahoney who's been the starting quarterback, and he started in 20-night, 2018. He got drafted in 17.
Starting point is 00:33:51 The last time the Broncos won the division, they won the Super Bowl. That was 2015. Okay, that was the last. So since then, since 2016, the Chiefs has been in winning days. But you got Mahomes, you got Herbert, you got Bo Nix, and Gino. That's a, look, that might be the second best division in football as far as quarterbacks. I think the AFC, I think the AFC North.
Starting point is 00:34:18 Whoa, whoa. With, with, with. Hello, NFC East. What do we talk about? Yeah, let's see. Hello, who's the NNC? Yeah. I think for me, it's clear that it's the AFC, it's the,
Starting point is 00:34:29 the AFC North with, you know, you got two of the top four quarterbacks in one division. Right, right. Okay, Rogers and it, yeah, even with Cleveland, we didn't give it Cleveland nothing with those two, those two top four guys and Rogers. And then, you know, okay, I can see that, I can see that, the NFC, East with Russ, Jane Daniels, Jalen Hertz, Dak, but Mahomes, Justin Herbert. Bo Nix. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:01 There ain't no slouch now. I like Bo too, man. I really, really like Bo. I like both. So if somebody said, if someone said I would take the AFC West quarterbacks, I wouldn't fight him. No. Because you got Mahomes. My home has been to five Super Bowls.
Starting point is 00:35:23 You got Justin Herbert. You got a Boe Nix who's up and coming. now hurts is it hurts is one of the soup bowl he's been to two Russ has been to two one one um but DAC where we where we where we put in that you take DAC or you take Justin Herbert that's a good one yeah
Starting point is 00:35:46 that's a chat who y'all like you take DAC or you take Justin Herbert I mean half the chat going to say, they're going to say Justin Herb because they just don't like the damn cowboys. No, I think I, I, I, there ain't nothing.
Starting point is 00:36:11 That kid can't do. That kid got an arm. He is immensely armed talented. Yeah. He's, he's more athletic than you think. Hey, guys, it's AZ Fudd. You may know me as a gold medalist. You may know me as an NCAA national champion.

We live it. Listen to the Solid Verbal College Football Podcast on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And he can flat out throw it. Oh, Joe, we got great news. Auburn, we'll retire Cam Newton's number two.
Starting point is 00:40:06 Cam became the first SEC player to record a 2,000-yard passing season, a 1,000-yard Russian season. He had 2,854 yards, 1473 yards Russian. He accounted for 51 touchdowns, 30 passing, 20 Russian one receiving while helping Auburn go 14 and 0 in winning the national championship against Oregon.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Cam swept the major college football awards. 2000, he won the Maxwell, Walter Camp, the Manning, the Davy O'Brien, an AP player of the year, as well as the Heisman Trophy. Oh, Joe, I just got a simple question. Talk to me.
Starting point is 00:40:44 Why won't Carolina show that man to love that Auburn is showing him? I'm not sure, huh? I'm not sure. Remember we did a topic was it last year that he took his son and there were no pictures of him on the wall at the facility? Oh, that's right. He did. He did say that.
Starting point is 00:40:59 I don't know. I don't know. That's something we would have to probably ask him that internally. I'm not sure how things. No, we have to. You can't ask Cam because Cam don't know why. We need to ask the organization. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:11 Yeah. I ain't no telling. I ain't no telling how things ended with Cam. Even though we came back, it's no telling. You would never know. Especially for a quarterback of that magnitude that did the things that he did for the Carolina Panthers. Yeah, took him to the Super Bowl, one of the MVP, rookie of the year. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:31 Pro bowler, all pro. But that's amazing. Congratulations, Cam. Very deserving. I can make a case that's the greatest college season for a quarterback. I know Joe had, I know Joe numbers. Right. But Joe ain't throwing out those numbers with the receivers that Cam had.
Starting point is 00:41:49 he didn't do it that and I don't know I think he had one I don't think he had an offensive lineman I mean did anybody play more than a year in the NFL on Cam's team on the offense because I know he had a defensive lineman that went like I think top 10 to the lions but if you look at his offensive weapons and what he was able to do yeah well Cam was a real deal back man was crazy with it. Mm-hmm. I mean, off the chain.
Starting point is 00:42:25 Yeah. I don't know who we'll never see. Lamar had an unbelievable season. I mean, the year he won the Heisman. Well, actually, the year that he finished, that he, the next year, he was even better than the year that he won the Heism. But if you go back and look at it.
Starting point is 00:42:41 Yeah. Because he threw for like 3,500 yards and had 1,500 yards rushing. That's crazy. But congratulations, Cam. University of Auburn, no one else will be able to wear the number two. Oh, Cho, Draft Kings been the NFL team of the best nicknames of all time. Who should be added?
Starting point is 00:43:06 Okay, you got the Honey Badger, Tyron Matthew, you got Ted Hendricks, who is the Mad Stort, Sean Merriman, Lights Out, you got Hacksaw, Jack Reynolds, You got the Tasmanian devil You got the assassin Jack Tatum You got Prime You got Ed Two Tall Jones
Starting point is 00:43:26 You got the fridge William Perry You got the kitchen Nate Newton You got the Minister of Defense Reggie White Rest your soul Dick Knight Turrin Lane
Starting point is 00:43:38 Rest his soul And then you got Andre Bad Moon Rising You got Big Phil Highway 63 Gene Upshaw bag of doughnuts pork chop
Starting point is 00:43:49 the intellectual assassin I don't know about him Megatron Megatron got a cool Legatron Beast mode Broadway Joe The Face Cleaver
Starting point is 00:43:59 And the Avatar I mean somebody Is that Jimmy Graham Is that Jimmy Graham Is that Avatar? Yes Yes I mean listen
Starting point is 00:44:07 All of these NFL nicknames are good They're all good But we all know Who the best nickname is Of all time They ain't got you up there on Joe Oh, that's defense.
Starting point is 00:44:17 I guess we got to ask them. No, they got offensive. They're an offensive. Yeah, Andre Ryzen. Yes. Bad moon. Yeah, they had nicknames, but I really embodied what it meant to have a nickname by actually changing my name and reinventing myself in the pride of my career.
Starting point is 00:44:33 That's from a, that was from a branding, marketing aspect. So which makes it, obviously, the greatest nickname of all time because I really bought in to the character in general. And that character in general has carried me years. beyond the game of football. Hell, I ain't took a snapping goddamn 37 years. But these are all...
Starting point is 00:44:54 I like the intellectual assession. Who is that? That played for the Chargers. Is that Ron Mix? The intellectual assassin. That's a good one. And you know, they don't even have... I mean, they don't have Walter Pay.
Starting point is 00:45:10 They don't got sweetness on them. Mm-mm. the intellectual, but hey, listen, Ocho Cinco, I mean, it speaks for itself. The greatest nickname of all time, because I actually, I was 8.5, and when it changed the name, huh? I understand. I saw a vision.
Starting point is 00:45:28 Like, when I do spoken word, there's a vision. There's a big long term where if you're not, if you're not in deep thought with me, you're not going to understand it. Who is the intellectual assassin? I ain't never heard of it. I mean, Bambi.
Starting point is 00:45:45 Who was Bambi? Lance Allworth. When is what? The charges. Okay, okay, okay. Oh, he did. He ran, like he ran like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He was, Jack Tater was the assassin.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Yeah. No, the intellectual assassin. The charges, he was the charges. John, uh, uh, uh, Jack Tate arrested. So he's out of Ohio State. I thought it was Ron Mix. I think he played, I think, Ocho, I think he played like 12 years and had two holding penalties in 12 years.
Starting point is 00:46:33 That's it? Yeah, thank you. That's exactly what I said. Jetta, Justin Jefferson returns to practice. his first time in 25 days, he continues to recover from a left hamstring strain. He suffered last month. He has a history of hamstring injuries.
Starting point is 00:46:52 He missed seven games in 2023 because of a hamstring string to the other leg, prompt to the Vikings to take a slow approach to his recovery. Today, he participated in warm-ups, individual drills, but sat out seven-on-seven or 11-11. Jefferson won't play in the Vikings' final pre-season game, but do expect to start week one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:12 He got some imbalances or something. He needs to get that looked at. Yeah, yeah. What do you think it is, especially when it comes to soft tissue injuries like that on? What do you think that comes from? Because I don't think he has the injury history. Yeah, I don't, and he doesn't look like he quad-dominant. Sometimes if a muscle overpowers, it will pull.
Starting point is 00:47:29 It will pull. So, you know, you quad-dominate sometimes or something. So he might, I mean, he might need to get his hips. He might be out of a line or something. Yeah, yeah. If he fatigued, the muscle, you know, weak muscles pull. right but I mean you're dealing with elite athletes
Starting point is 00:47:50 and so I know they have the best physio and the best everything around he might you know maybe his mechanics are off or something but he might need to take a look at that hey I'm not going to say nothing I'm not going to say nothing
Starting point is 00:48:06 obviously you know my stance when it comes on to soft tissue injuries when you know my stance on when it comes and getting hurt but we know how valuable Justin Jefferson is to that team and I'm glad he took 25 days and they went slow with him
Starting point is 00:48:19 I think he's a player that training camp would be beneficial but to get him back 100% healthy so he's not one that need training camp like that but I don't want him having to go from zero to 100 without having to wear and tear that training can ring because what's going to happen
Starting point is 00:48:37 you get to getting pulled and pushed that tug that's why I hate guys man don't tug me. If I beat you, just let me go. Yeah. You took, I'm pulling Ocho and you tug me. Yeah. Now I'm going to turn right and swing on you. That's a tough division because we saw the bears and you and I both think the bears are
Starting point is 00:49:00 going to be better this year than they were last year. Absolutely. You believe you say, hey, the lions, I don't see them taking a step back. No, I don't. Then the Packers. You like the Packers. Jordan Love, that receiving court, Josh Jacobs. So that is a very tough division.
Starting point is 00:49:22 You can ill afford. Now, they're already going to be the first three games. They're going to be without Jordan Addison because of some issues that he had off the field. So they're going to be without him. And the last thing that you need to happen, a guy coming back from a soft tissue injury, and he retweaks it because now he's probably going to be down doubled amount of time that he missed it again with. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:49:42 Yeah, O'Bee is healthy. I hope he stays healthy because I want to see him on the field. Bless you. Thank you. The man, he covered in my mouth after he doesn't sneeze. Hachew! Excuse me. Like, damn.
Starting point is 00:50:00 It creeped up on me. I didn't know what's coming. I ain't know what's coming. Oh. You know what coming, huh? Oh. He made a little Purell. What's that?
Starting point is 00:50:11 Pure. Why are you using that? I'm all the way up when he. Why don't you get me sick? I'm going to get you sick. I'm all the way in Miami. Hey, boy, that thing you got right there that day said, you might have Ebola. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:50:28 I ain't like, I don't know what they say. They died in Liberty City. Say, a monkey. Say a monkey got to skate. Yeah. Say the monkey had Ebola. Say one of them dudes from Liberty City bit the monkey. The monkey bit him.
Starting point is 00:50:40 He had Ebola. And the monkey died. So if the monkey got Ebola, he beat the deal from Liberty City, what he got? Okay, you're right, you're right, you right. Ain't no telling. Ain't no telling. But I'm just trying to figure out how you sneeze and then cover your mind and say, excuse me. It snuck upon me.
Starting point is 00:50:57 I didn't know it was coming. Like, that's what happened when you're really sick. You don't, you know, I feel like I got a fever. I thought you didn't get sick. How are you getting sick and you eat fast food? You ain't supposed to get sick, remember? I know. I'm probably going to be like this under one day.
Starting point is 00:51:09 Matter of fact, you can hear my voice that sound like Barry White tonight. Did? Most of the time when I talk, I got a high, a high-pitched, squeaky voice. But tonight, I sound like really sexy, like for radio. No, I just try to figure out, you told me, chat, y'all didn't heard this man say eating a big max and eating all that fast food. He don't get sick. I just try to figure out what's really going on. That's it. Well, technically, I'm not sick. I'm talking like, I'm still here. This is a minor setback.
Starting point is 00:51:40 Are you sick? Did you not say you was sick? You just told us when you signed on that you was sick. Yeah. I'm good. So are you or are you not sick? Yes or no? Yes. At like halfway. Because if I was sick, I wouldn't be on here. So I'm able to do, I'm able to work. So I'm not sick, sick. So there's a difference. So if you work from home, if you work from home and sick and you can't work. Right. Something really going on. Yeah, yeah. I understand. But some people, some people, when they get sick, sick, even if they are home, they can't do nothing. They can't function. See, I'm fighting through it.
Starting point is 00:52:15 I'm fighting through it. My body, on the inside, you know, my immune system, they're in there like this. Right. And they're going to work. So on the outside, I'm cold. But on the inside, I'm cold, but on the outside, I got the AC off.
Starting point is 00:52:30 And I'm sweating, but on the inside, I got chills. I mean, it's weird. So this doesn't happen to me often at all. So I'm going to be all right, though. Man, and, Ocho, you know, I hate, I hate when guys, I'm a firm believing. If you limp in the season, Ocho, you know how you coming out of it. Limping out of it, baby. You limping out of it.
Starting point is 00:52:50 I just hate that for gentlemen. Because, man, you're talking about off to a historic start? Absolutely. Oh, my gosh. I think it's going to continue, though. I think it's going to be all right. It's going to continue. I don't, I don't, like I said, that's an extremely,
Starting point is 00:53:10 tough division. You could ill afford to have him and Addison out. Plus, you got Jay McCartney, who's in his second year, but this really is first year starting. Right. You're asking an awful lot. You're asking an awful lot of a young quarterback to go out there and to do what you need him to do.
Starting point is 00:53:29 Mm-hmm. What I just wanted to say, I just hope a Jeddah can stay healthy for the entire season. Yeah. They're going to need him. They got no chance. They got no chance. Remember KJ Osborne is in Washington. In Washington now, yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:45 Addison is going to miss the first three, and then, you know, he warmed up the day, but like you said, he didn't do 707, he didn't do 11-on-11, and he's not going to play in the final preseason game, which is Friday or Saturday. Right. So, boy, and it's just a turn, A, and then in 10 days, just go. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm hoping he's going to be all right. Oh, come on. Why is this taking so long?
