Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi guys, and welcome to Nip, Tuck, Not Giving Gay. Fuck! Oh, I said it! Yay! Well done, well done. I thought I was going to have to say it. I thought she looked at me, so I thought I... So you just jumped in there? I think that's the first guess that's fully gone in. Straight in there. I feel like Danny did as well.
Starting point is 00:00:19 I feel like these are the wrong ones. They're the ones. I would expect it to be me and Danny. Yeah, yeah. Us commoners. Straight in there with the fuck. so this is the podcast where we celebrate being positive aspirational women and men men yeah yeah and it's all about being unapologetically yourself that's what we stand for and that's why our guests are very similar yes yeah that's who we have so we've got a guest here today
Starting point is 00:00:46 who is the guest who is the guest can i say it because i want to say it like this right before we even begin ashley brought your product in for me to try like a few months ago and i genuinely was like ah it's my m-m-m-m-mitchell and she was like you don't say it and i know you actually do you actually do say it like that do you say or do you say basically so m-m-m-mitchell came from do you know where people are dead cool and they just have and the name the username and it's just like ashley yeah lauren yeah nothing else yeah i wanted that but obviously mitchell wasn't available we actually we actually even tried buying this mitchell but really it's still in use by someone who is the person it even
Starting point is 00:01:29 really even really used the platform but anyway so i had i had just kept adding an m until i could have it so the story isn't as interesting as i like it i thought that's what it might be i thought i bet you just couldn't get the right username yeah no that's literally it but do you know what stuck as well it really has and like i i used to we'll talk about this but i used to travel so much like around south america um and latin america and obviously over there they'll say emmy emmy emmy mitchell okay yeah it's hilarious actually because obviously wherever you go people pronounce the m's differently so so i wasn't sure if it was that or mitchell yeah i hear it all but it was meant to be my mama mitchell yeah i love that so that's who we've got yeah hi guys hi we're so
Starting point is 00:02:16 excited so excited and we're grateful as well like you are a busy guy well i feel like everyone's busy in their own lives though aren't they and i feel like i feel like you just prioritize what you choose to prioritize which is lauren do you want to learn from that i'm busy i'm too busy i'm too busy what it really means is that's not in the list of my priorities today the gym i'm too busy for the gym yeah oh my god me too to be fair though i haven't really mastered the art of prioritization yet i think that's why like janine who's here she's really helping mitchell's bought his manager janine today with him so you that's when you know you've made it when your manager's following you honestly i don't i don't want to say made it but you know
Starting point is 00:02:58 you've made it honestly no but yeah i feel like the the art of prioritization it's something that i i definitely take on way too much way more than i can chew yeah but again i'm learning are you a busy fool like me yeah i think i might be i might and it's not always just because i want to be busy as well it's because i don't like letting people down a lot i saw you put a post on a few weeks ago and it really reminded me of myself when i was younger and you said like i got addicted to buying just these designer clothes yes and so what happened so i i didn't grow up around money like my dad is a bus driver he retired last no this year actually i was able for him to retire so that was like the best dream and my mum my mum worked in a bank up until i think i was about
Starting point is 00:03:47 maybe eight and then she worked in sainsbury's and then she got diagnosed with breast cancer when maybe when i was about 10 so about 14 years ago she's all clear now everything's good so my mum didn't work for a long time and hasn't since and my dad has just been a bus driver so i didn't i didn't grow up around money i didn't really know what designer things were when i was a kid and then i think when i started i'd started working in my first salon it was power patrol yeah yeah and we probably would have seen each other to do our makeup yeah yeah someone else oh i can't remember yeah rosie yes rosie yeah so that was my first salon that i worked in and that was the og oh my god that is where you went before oh yeah definitely like back in the
Starting point is 00:04:30 day before pre-lockdown like oh my well i didn't go to a visa i wasn't old enough but no i know he's like 25 younger than us yeah oh my god he's like yeah literally 20 years younger but again i was i was around people that did go there and so i think because the my peers in in work were a lot older and they'd been doing the job a lot longer than me they obviously had access to designer things and nice things and luxurious things so I think that was my first introduction to anything designer and I think especially when you're in a salon even though I loved working in that salon it was amazing you do kind of you you feel you have to keep up appearances that's when I started with designer when I met Ashley yeah it's genuine at my age I was like oh literally what's this
Starting point is 00:05:09 no you I get it though because it's you just feel like you have to have that to fit in sometimes and then it it kind of changed from wanting to fit into actually enjoying the designer yeah and learning about it myself oh this is fancy yeah i was like i love this but then it just went way too far and i literally i pre-locked down before i had the brand and everything i'd get paid and i'd just spend it all the next day and could you afford to absolutely not no because like now you've got the brand again oh no i could i could probably have a few houses right now if i wasn't like that for i was i'd probably did it for that yeah what were you buying just bags like just it was a lot of bags bags bags bags and did you even use the bags oh yeah i did actually i got my use
Starting point is 00:05:52 out of them i got my use out of them i didn't really um spend my money on like expensive holidays or anything of real value it was just yeah it was just bags pick your designer clothing loads of train like they had trainers trainers are ridiculous um but yeah i think then obviously lockdown happened and we were all locked indoors and for the first part of lockdown it was good for me financially because i think everyone was still on the phones and it was a lot of brands were kind of like using new techniques to strategize out to the audiences so it was it was actually quite financially amazing during the first i know a few people that made a yeah yeah no literally but then i think as as we got into like the second part you're not really going
Starting point is 00:06:32 out to wear them yeah exactly and then i ended up being skin and panicking and now here we are but I'm good now. Again, having Janine alongside me and helping me manage my finances and not just my finances, but my lifestyle. We all need a Janine. We all need a Janine. Yeah, Janine.
Starting point is 00:06:51 We actually do. But again, I understand not everyone is lucky enough to have someone like that in their life. So I think as I start to understand more about that through learning from Janine, and not even from Janine, but from the people that I work with as well, that's something that eventually i would love to help people with because i don't want people to
Starting point is 00:07:10 do but i want people to make mistakes because you've learned from them but i don't want them to make mistakes to the point of no return silly ones yeah because i think i think i was just about to do that yeah you were on the course yeah i was definitely on the course people around you oh yeah definitely so important aren't they and i think like you're amazing at your job and what you do but we're not all amazing at everything so that's why you need to learn in other areas or get people in that. That help, definitely. But again, it's hard to find someone
Starting point is 00:07:36 that you can integrate into your life. You might not get along as people and I think you have to have that nice relationship. Guidance. Yeah, definitely. You have to trust each other, don't you? Just one second. You said you've got over the designer thing.
Starting point is 00:07:50 What? No, this is an old one. This is old. This is old? This is old. Oh my God, I love it. He's a liar. He's a liar.
Starting point is 00:07:58 But I'm also wearing a mango jacket, so I feel like it's kind of balanced. It's balanced, Dan. Because it used to be like just only Louis Vuitton stuff. And that's like, again, I wouldn't eat, so. Don't try, don't try. But exactly, exactly. That was me.
Starting point is 00:08:10 I wear that jacket a lot, Lauren. Okay. Yeah, do you know what? I feel like if you've got a piece that you can wear loads, it's cool. But you get your money's worth. It's that girl math, isn't it? Girl math. Girl math.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Exactly. Right, let's get into it. So we have got you on for one episode and we want to get as much as possible out of you because you are the oracle of like you are young you are smashing it like you're so creative and everything inspirational and people really honestly are sexy are obsessed so where did it all start so it i used to actually think way before i did makeup so yeah so listen i've even though i'm young i've lived a few lives yeah it's it's been it's been a wild ride so i i sung since being a since being a kid um my mum always used to say like i sung before i could talk
Starting point is 00:08:59 so i started when i left school i'd been singing like just on the weekends at like shows and stuff like that like you know singing competitions that like that's so good for your confidence oh no and i think that built me up to what i am now but then i um got on an agency i was 15 at the time and i got on an agency to sing in like pubs clubs social clubs old men's clubs like you name it i sang in them but i wasn't even old enough to really be in there but i had to pretend i was 18 so i did that for about two years and then i went to music college in manchester and through music college we got an opportunity to go on to x factor but in a band so i i got put into a boy band i don't know yes oh no there's this well i'll show you well i won't show you
Starting point is 00:09:42 the video you were just always meant to be i'll send you the link and you can watch them in your own time because i can't be around that um but anyway i was in i was in i've got put into a boy band and we went through the show we got to the six chair challenge and then we got kicked off and it you know when you're young good something like it was horrific oh my god my life is over i was literally about six months old but you know it's um i think that i just i'd been singing for so long and trying to pursue it for so long that i was just like i don't feel inspired by this anymore and at the time i'd started working in part just on the weekends um so makeup was something that i'd you were just good i was just yeah i'm not even good at this i definitely wasn't
Starting point is 00:10:19 good at the time but i enjoyed it and i enjoyed like the whole buzz of a saturday saturday getting ready and being in the salon the atmosphere i still miss it to this day to be fair that upstairs room yeah yeah oh it was wild it was what that was a i loved my parties yeah amazing um but then i just decided to step back from the singing and really just put all my time into the makeup and thank god i did because that's kind of what got me here today now yeah so i started obviously not just working on the saturdays i'd do saturdays friday saturday sunday because i wouldn't have gig and stuff like that and then i eventually went into doing like one-to-one lessons so that got really busy so i was doing that all through the week and then i started having my
Starting point is 00:10:55 weekend so i was like this is a bit better for me because i can still i'm young i can still have a bit of life i don't have to dedicate all my time to clients and um then from teaching it then kind of my teaching is where it started to get bigger and bigger because then i started to teach classes master classes yeah bigger bigger audiences um in different countries and then that i did that countries that's like oh yeah the honest like the countries that i've been to is that from social media yeah definitely so you got a presence on there and then there was a demand my first one i did was i think it was i think i went to switzerland or something like that but then my first real what felt like an international one was new jersey wow so i flew to new jersey
Starting point is 00:11:36 again i've never been to like anywhere like that in my life i don't even think i had a working visa at the time so i'd gone over there just on like an ester just through thank god i didn't tell them that i wasn't like earning anything because i would have got in so much trouble but that obviously happened and then um in 2019 i did a latin america tour so i did i did like i think it was 32 countries in like six months why latin america because the makeup was the style that you were doing what is your signature style it was just very bright very bold very structured very kind of like a level down from drag yeah i mean like putting drag onto a feminine face you know I mean, rather than feminizing a masculine face,
Starting point is 00:12:16 it was more so just about- Kind of like your makeup. Yeah. Yeah, I love that. No, kind of like how you like it, like not to put on a feminine face rather than- That's why I always like, me and Patty from the beginning,
Starting point is 00:12:29 like he did my makeup and I was like, oh my God, wow. Like I love the drag look. Yeah, yeah. I'm one of the campus people in the world. So I'm like, I love it. Give me more makeup. You know what though,
Starting point is 00:12:40 like this is what I think people forget, like makeup whether you wear a bit of chapstick and mascara or whether you wear seven seven layers of foundation it's all drag do you know yeah it's all making yourself look something yeah of course exactly even wearing clothes that is so camping itself yeah like what look at us all back now how camp are we yeah we've got you've got headphones on that's the campest thing yeah with a pink with a pink microphone this is so camp yeah i feel like everything is everything is great it's like what we pause is like we're all born naked naked naked we're all on naked and the rest is drag so it's that's not sure i like that yeah it is it's just no no so
Starting point is 00:13:16 latin america you did the big that was like yeah so i'd i'd flew to i think my first one started in peru and then i'd stayed out there for a good i think it was about five and a half months and it was the most insane experience because it was 2019 so i would have been i think i would have been about 20 21 at the time so yeah so young but i was i was in these countries so in latin america you either speak um spanish or portuguese so i was in these countries didn't have a clue what anyone was saying for six months so it that at the end of it i was just like oh my god i am so drained yeah just like trying to work out trying to work it out and also then like listening to one person then listening to a translator and but it was honestly the most educational
Starting point is 00:13:55 out-of-body experience yeah you had to grow up oh absolutely because you've lived by yourself for six months but not only you're doing it there you're doing it in 30 other countries that are completely different it's what my mum would call character building oh it was definitely did your mum ever say like yeah i don't want to do that she's like it's character building she was right it is so that was where your makeup artist you know your lessons and everything grew how did that then turn to the brand you said it was after lockdown the brand no so we actually launched the brand october 2020 so it was in the midst of lockdown yeah so um i'd done collabs with beauty bay i'd done collabs with um p louise you were making other people yeah i was i was
Starting point is 00:14:37 collabing with other brands i'd done tattie lashes i'd done um god what else have i done i've done morphe so you were doing like your version with them yeah yeah i was doing like my creation but funded by another brand if you know what i mean so i'd been doing all that and then it was actually when i did my p louise um p louise um collab i met my all of that oh did you all the paints yeah do you know what i loved all my clubs i've done i can't say a bad thing about any of it but um yeah then i met my business partner that i have now um through the p louise one because that okay she manufactured for p louise um so that just was kind of like it was it was i feel like all all my years that i've been working with other brands and teaching and
Starting point is 00:15:19 stuff like that it's just always been about networking but kind of not subconsciously if you know what i mean like it just kind of happened naturally so then i met um marie my business partner end of no maybe like middle of 2019 and then we started slowly working on the brand and we finally had a final product and we launched it october 2020 when you say you started working on the brand what what does that mean like the blur did you know straight away well do you know what blush wasn't actually meant to be like a big thing either which is crazy because now blush is our best-selling product um but originally i wanted it just to be solely based around color cosmetics so eyeshadow palettes those kind of things eyeliners those kind of things because
Starting point is 00:16:00 that's where i was at in my makeup journey at that point like i loved eyeshadow palettes i had hundreds of them um so that's what i wanted the brand to be but i think i quickly realized that it's so done you know you can't wear it every day yeah and not i feel like i've kind of grown into being a different makeup artist now where i'm not necessarily always just whipping out rainbow looks like i like a gorgeous soft glam now as well i think as you get older you just appreciate yeah different different elements of the makeup don't you so that's when i then implemented um a liquid blusher because at the time i was i've always loved the thought of a liquid blusher but i've never really had a liquid blusher that worked with what i wanted it for so
Starting point is 00:16:40 i was using like liquid lipsticks and stuff like that and they worked but i just kind of i felt like there was a gap in the market for a diverse multi-use product that could be used on the eyes lips and cheeks so that's where blush was born and it's called blush because it's a blurring blush oh i thought it was just because you say it like no well i think people think it's just because i'm from bolton and that's why it's actually it has a meaning yeah so then you put the product on the market and did it take off straight away so the first i'd say the first four to five months we had a really amazing launch like it was insane it was just really positive everything was just going in the right direction um I remember obviously we launched in lockdown as well so
Starting point is 00:17:24 we were I was sat around my dining table with my boyfriend and my two friends Ariana and Holly and it had just launched and Marie and um Sarah my my team at the time because our team was it was literally just us three at the beginning um they rang me and they was like you've just made your first hundred grand and I was like what is that this was literally half an hour in so I was like oh my god half an hour into launching and how did that feel it was again an out-of-body experience because i think when you've obviously done a collab with other brands you don't really get to see as much insight because they don't want you to know yeah well that's probably the case yeah actually i wish i knew that sooner but um no that's um i think that is it when you know
Starting point is 00:18:09 it's because of something that you've solely created with you and your team because i always say like it isn't just me that it's made by mitchell it takes an absolute village um but it's just a lot of overwhelming sense of proudness did you think because i have to be honest like what i'm gonna buy like the hundred i'd be like did you have like a fit i'm gonna buy this is what i'm gonna buy first you know what yeah i probably did i probably did um i can't necessarily think what i was gonna buy but it was probably like designer another bag yeah it wasn't it wasn't like oh my god i'm gonna change my life i'm gonna buy something so so sensible now a house that would never cross my mind okay so then did it carry on up up up up no so what happened so
Starting point is 00:18:46 again about six months in i felt like i was really inspired so everything that was coming out of the brand was really just fresh authentic it was it was fun and new um but then we actually so at the time we were struggling with um shipping to america and stuff like that obviously it was in the midst of covid as well so that made it even harder but as such a small brand it's so expensive for us to ship containers and stuff exactly it's just so expensive um so we ended up launching on beauty bay and it was a really natural progression for me because i've done a collab with them anyway i've had a relationship with them since i started doing makeup so i've it's never been a question that we would have launched with them but i think then because
Starting point is 00:19:23 beauty bay provided shipping for so much cheaper everyone was shopping on beauty bay and obviously with with retailers the margins aren't always really high anyway it's literally dan said that about boots yeah i actually listened to the podcasting and it's so true like that you don't really go into like for example i know this is a bit going forward a little bit but loads of people say to me like oh my god i bet you've making loads loads of money off harrods and it's you don't make it's more than a name isn't it it's about being alongside yeah those are big names and being being i think for us as well because we are such a social media based brand it's about taking us off that for for a minute it's a progression being alongside the big dogs and also i
Starting point is 00:20:02 like the Kylie cosmetics and stuff like that especially for me like I am a makeup girly like Lauren knows Lauren just buys
Starting point is 00:20:11 whatever I tell her to buy because I go in the shops she does the and I want to touch it and I want to smell it and I want to like try it on me
Starting point is 00:20:20 and have a chat with the like I love the staff you do you love chatting I spend hours you're such a prin so like being in Harrods
Starting point is 00:20:28 like if I heard like right he's going to be I'd be like down there you would be down there with a fucking clipboard and like tiktok and instagram and stuff like it's amazing but you can't really like yeah it's it's removed that um that the angle of personality and being it being a personal experience definitely which is why it's so important you want both oh yeah definitely harrods like well harrods but also like the way that tiktok has been for us
Starting point is 00:20:55 it's literally it's changed the brand completely massively it was a year and a half ago we're not the same so has there been a dip has there been a point where you thought oh shit i'm gonna have to sell my bags so oh my god well not that long ago actually but anyway i will get back onto that but so obviously then we launched on beauty bay and for our own website sales dropped massively because you when you you know yourself you go online to buy something you find the cheapest shipping you add it up and you think it's a fiver cheaper there i'll go back yeah you do and obviously as well with that when it comes to like google and being the top of a google search again we were so expensive so and we didn't have the funds for that at that time so we definitely
Starting point is 00:21:34 lost our way for a little bit but then we ended up taking on gab who basically manages our tiktok now um and i can't lie she completely changed the game up for us because she basically said like she kind of saw the spike of tiktok shop at the start um so at the start it was a bit like everyone's a bit like how how does this even work is this even to be trusted and gab was like let's just give it a go and i was like no i didn't i wasn't even on tiktok at the time i was just an instagram bye i was like no i hate tiktok it's like very me i was like it's just she doesn't go on it but i don't oh no what you got on it maybe don't want it because you'll never get guys i thought one this is no lie i bought one thing in my life and it was your brush set
Starting point is 00:22:13 i don't use tiktok shop i don't use tiktok i don't get it but this brushes i was like the brush is the price they're good yes buy well so easy to buy all the time well it is very easy loo roll the loo roll yeah the loo roll oh my god have you bought the loo roll no my mum bought something really good my mum's obsessed with buying on tiktok shop it's hilarious um but yeah so then she persuaded us to start i was a bit like okay we'll just give it a go because again i feel like everyone on your team should be listened to whether you agree with it or not like everyone should have the opportunity to be able to prove something to everyone you know so we give it a go and we never look back thank god thank no literally thank god thank thanks to gab you know
Starting point is 00:22:55 thanks gab shout out to gab thank you gab needs bag gab needs a bag gab deserves a bag right so influencer marketing is so big for you as we said like it all started on social media for you so even from the beginning when you were like you know getting 30 quid a glam people were finding you off instagram have you ever had any nightmare experiences or like funny experiences with influencers oh with influencers do you know what i feel like going into an experience with an influencer if you go in overly nice you can't really not be nice yeah dan said that didn't and i also yeah again i remember saying that me and dan are very similar in that way we're just kind of like everyone just gets treated the same yeah which is the way it should be but
Starting point is 00:23:42 it's unfortunately that's not everyone's experience always but i've had some really crazy experiences because i've like over the years i've been friends with some of the big biggest people in the game so like like i've worked with nikki tutorials i've worked with jeffree star it's it's and again this isn't me name dropping no a lot of people that follow me know know me because of that so it's stupid for me to name drop no but being around those people you do experience some crazy stuff like even just like just being going into a shopping mall and being having thousands of people they're waiting for jeffree at the time like even that's just a wild wild experience when you go out and about do you get that yeah i do get it i do get it a bit to
Starting point is 00:24:25 be fair especially when i'm in manchester it happens quite a lot yeah um and obviously say when i'm in a different city for an event or something like that when people know i'm there then it does happen but i love it i think it's the nicest because i get to meet the people that have got me to this place so i love giving them a hug and it's always funny because sometimes you see people and you know they want to come over yeah and they're like it's so funny but sometimes i'm just like hi you okay let me view this for you would you like a picture exactly but well that's uh would you like a picture is something that i've only just felt like brave enough to imagine if they go no i don't even know you are you've made that day imagine you do just like no
Starting point is 00:25:04 i just really like your jacket but yeah oh no i wasn't even looking at you it's like it that that is very awkward what is the biggest celebrity that you've met or worked with or has worked more on your products i'd probably say the one that i was most proud of was sweetie um yeah sweetie the rapper because i feel like she's someone that i've i've watched her journey from the start so i she used to do rapping videos in her car like i'm sure she used to drive like a little toyota and obviously did the car get bigger and yeah well the car now she i don't know what she drives now but i'm sure it's something a lot more luxurious than that but again i've watched from the start and i've always loved her and i've always loved her like energy towards music and
Starting point is 00:25:40 obviously i love music as well um so when i got to work with her i was meant to work with her before lockdown and then it never happened and then i got a message for i think it was the maybe the start of 2022 and it was basically to go to paris for paris fashion week and do sweetie and i was absolutely shitting myself i was i remember walking in the room i was just like yeah they say like don't meet your idols oh no she was she's lovely she's she's absolutely amazing have you ever thought right because sometimes i mean i'm not a makeup artist but i'll do makeup i think oh not that's not good have you ever like been doing someone i thought oh this isn't good many many times so you know what this is this is something that i always
Starting point is 00:26:21 because again i do educate people on makeup so i talk about this all the time because this has been like an experience that i learned massively from so i remember it was when i used to work at out actually and a beautiful black girl came and sat in my seat she booked him but because they didn't book him for us i didn't know who was sat in my seat that day anyway my kit was very very minimal because i didn't have the money to to buy all the yeah yeah so i had a white foundation and a black foundation yeah like when i say white and black i don't mean the like black skin i mean i mean i mean the tone black really and the tone white like there wasn't it wasn't any flesh tone so i was just kind of like mixing and going anyway white and black makes great so i did a makeup and
Starting point is 00:26:59 she'd paid obviously just as much as everyone else had paid and i it sticks with me to this day like i was like i'm so mortified and i can't even imagine did she say anything but i i made it work okay like it wasn't it wasn't the worst makeup look that i've ever done in my life well no it probably was the worst but again i'm very good at fixing things so when it comes to makeup because it you can you can warm things up you can bronze things up once you've got a bit of concealer you're okay yeah but i remember looking at him being like i know she's not happy with this and i never want to make a client feel like that ever again um because it was literally just it's it's i guess it was a little bit of ignorance at the time but also just not having the funds to be able to
Starting point is 00:27:36 create a very inclusive kit which is why now i'm creating such an inclusive brand at an affordable price because i don't want anyone the next generation of makeup artists to ever have to be in that position um and also the next generation of clients to ever be in that position because it's like especially when you're in the salon this is the way i always describe it is imagine you sat around a load of other girls getting the makeup done you know what they all look gorgeous and they all feel amazing and i've your makeup artist has just made you look great yeah like it's the worst feeling ever so but again i'm i'm not glad that it happened because i wish it didn't have to happen but again it was a lesson i learned very early on that i had to really
Starting point is 00:28:13 perfect my craft and because i never wanted that to happen again so then from then on i really mastered working on black skin and i like to think i am pretty much of a pro at black skin now so But again, that's because I had that wake-up call of being like, no, this is... I've seen the colours that you make pop on there. Yeah, literally. To me, I think black women are the most beautiful women on the planet.
Starting point is 00:28:34 They're just... I love doing makeup on them because the skin is just like... So stunning. It's just not fair. I think you speaking about it like this is so helpful as well because there will be so many makeup artists
Starting point is 00:28:46 looking up to you and it's a brave thing to talk about and it's to say, look, I can do the best job. I talk about it with a lot of my models that are darker skinned and they all really appreciate it. Yeah, appreciate the chat. They say like, actually, this is like,
Starting point is 00:29:00 it doesn't need to be made such a controversial topic. And I think once it is, then it's scary and people resist it. But as a makeup artist, you should be able to do every single skin tone. It's just that is what you owe your client. And skin type. The new Lady Gaga foundation.
Starting point is 00:29:17 House Labs, gorgeous. Well, I've not opened it yet. I've got the concealer on today. really good but that's got something like 54 shades which is so amazing but then i was like where do i start well that's the thing as well because there's so many brands out there that have created foundation lines and i remember there was one by um pure cosmetics or per cosmetics they did a hundred shades which which is amazing but also at the same time so many brands do say 75 shades
Starting point is 00:29:45 and it's 65 shades of white yes you're right where is the the proportion yeah I mean like
Starting point is 00:29:52 I remember there was another one that did it who was it I think it was Beauty Blender Beauty Blender I think they must have done 40 shades
Starting point is 00:29:57 which is an okay line of if it's split apart it's cool I think they did 40 shades and there was literally two for no
Starting point is 00:30:04 it's just like don't even try if that's what you're gonna do if you're not gonna do it properly but your skin talking about skin type is unreal like stunning
Starting point is 00:30:13 I think my skin's just quite dehydrated I need to know really quickly I need to know I'm going to jump straight in there with it because I want to know your nose is very very nice
Starting point is 00:30:24 I'm looking at this nose no it is have you been staring at his nose from the side same tell us my nose I've never had my nose done
Starting point is 00:30:32 but I've had nose filler you've not had your nose done no no no stop that so I get filler I get it in the bridge obviously I'm going to take my glasses off I get it in the bridge
Starting point is 00:30:40 I thought you'd had your nose done that's what I was about to ask well you would think had to have my nose done wait if you see what my nose used to look like i'll send you a picture of what my nose used to look like because you would actually think it's been a nose job it's lovely i thought you'd had it done i was about to ask well i get my look by louise yeah yeah yeah i like louise she's lovely she does my bridge so she'll do it all here and then i'll have a little bit here i'll do the tip but then my favorite place to get it done is just there yeah she's done it there
Starting point is 00:31:02 and you can have botox put yeah she put botox in my nostrils once um so what can i ask you have you had any cosmetic work i've had i've never had surgery per se yeah um it's nothing that i'm against i think if you want to do something absolutely do it just make sure you research it but i've never had surgery i've had pretty much filler all around my face i've had lip filler you've had it done well though yeah well uh yeah i've always had it done really well and i've always just gone to the same person who understands my face who understands what i actually want rather than if you go place to place frantically i just want this but you don't know what you've had done before i went through a period of that and it was not good oh my god
Starting point is 00:31:38 literally like i used to look like i was like a box at one point it was just it was not it was not nice um but yeah i think through lockdown obviously not being able to go get it done as much i think i just kind of like stepped back a little bit for me and thought to myself what do i actually want to have done now am i just following a trend here or am i actually doing it because i want it so then i started to just pare it back a bit i had all my lips dissolved because they'd um migrated a little bit um and now i just do the russian technique in my lip I only really put it in the centre as well
Starting point is 00:32:06 I've had jaw done don't really have anything in my jaw now though but I did just get cheeks done again they look nice a few months ago do you have skin boosters?
Starting point is 00:32:15 no I don't have any skin boosters actually it's his age though Lauren I forget he's 20 years younger like teeth you've had your teeth done yes so I've had my teeth done twice
Starting point is 00:32:23 they're gorgeous did you have them abroad? no I had them in Liverpool Robbie Hughes did oh yes I knew Robbie I thought you'd had them done abroad
Starting point is 00:32:31 I don't know why no do you know what I've been very lucky because obviously smile richard oh my god stunning really nice really nice yeah i love my teeth i'm i've always been such a teeth person i feel like that's what makes you look so clean is that your teeth are so like perfect and then oh yeah like i'm telling you after like a night out when i'm definitely
Starting point is 00:32:49 not clean i just sometimes just have to smile and i'm like okay having teeth is why it does help it does help amazing but yeah i had um i've had them done twice i had um composites first but i felt they just snapped and they stained so easily and these are porcelain ones i'm on that journey too yeah right we've literally this is what we get like we're gonna have a break because we have picked mitchell's brain and we've got more to come come back after the break we're gonna talk even more We're back. We're back.
Starting point is 00:33:35 In surgery. We're back in surgery. Right, we're back. Oh, do you do a Scottish accent? No, it's terrible. Oh, can you? I love doing a Scottish accent. I'm up to it all the time.
Starting point is 00:33:42 He's good at it, not like us. It was fucking one of yours. It was fucking one of yours. No, so my best friend is Scottish, so I'm always... Is that how you get it? Oh, yeah, like... I love it. All we do is speak to her in Scottish.
Starting point is 00:33:54 She hates it. Everything's funnier in a Scottish accent. It really is. I'm more aggressive. And the delivery's fantastic. Why? Disgusting. right okay guys quick fire okay right i want to know your worst date story
Starting point is 00:34:07 or do you have a tell us what are you like with dating in general i know you've got a boyfriend now but before that are you a serial dater ashley or he couldn't he was working oh you're an actor i did fit in dating um but i would never date in this country it was because i spent so much time in la i would always date there because i'd be there for like months at a time and they do it different oh my god they're up the wall like it's round the bend and round the houses yeah it's not it's so strange i remember there was this one time i'd met a i'd met a guy and i think he'd i had a plt party that night actually so i'd gone to this plt party and i'd got a dm and this is in the time where i would read my dms and be like i'd flirt back which i could i would just never now
Starting point is 00:34:48 no literally literally anyway he messaged me and i was like come to this party i think i'd had a few drinks at this point so he'd come to this party and it ends up we end up going out that night together anyway i think we was probably talking for about a week and a half and anyway i stupid me like this is just me to a t i flew us to denver which i've never been to denver in my life it was where he was from and he we got there and he just left me when i was in denver because no he just went to go see his friend so he was just using me as a flight to denver so you went to denver got there and he just fucked up yeah i know it's just that bad when my flight's not for another two days so i was literally just in this place i've never i've never even heard
Starting point is 00:35:28 i was yeah i was trying to ring him text him and then he turned up to get on the flight home and i was just like wow okay and did you have to sit next to him no i actually didn't did you have janine in your life at this point no this is way before you wouldn't have let that happen would you absolutely would never have like that what a denver dick and did you ever hear from him again um at denver if i'd go back to la like now and then we'd probably talk oh so you would so you So you carried on. At first I was like, no, what the hell? I'm done.
Starting point is 00:35:54 But then obviously when you... When you fell in the dick sand. Yes, exactly. Happens to us all. That's the one. Happens to us all. I'd probably say there was so much with him. I actually ended up finding out that he was a male escort as well.
Starting point is 00:36:06 Oh my goodness. So that was really just a real shock. How did you feel about that? I was... Do you know what? I had nothing against that. If that's what you want to do. Was he stunning?
Starting point is 00:36:16 No, actually. He wasn't looking back. No. He had a good body, but that was about it. um and his personality was just i think i was just a drunk in love yeah if you're an escort do you need a good personality well absolutely probably not actually but anyway so obviously then he told me and he was like i really need to tell you something and when he said this this is after us being like kind of seeing each other for about four months wow and i was like oh my god
Starting point is 00:36:39 what he's gonna tell me what he's gonna tell me i was like all kinds of things are going through my mind and he comes around to my hotel and he's been like right so i am a male escort and i was like okay thanks for letting me know um wish you would have told me sooner yeah um did you sense anything weird not anything not anything which maybe again it'd be like maybe you chose not to see yeah but yeah i think i probably was choosing to be missing the goggles for hours yeah it's it was wild but again if that's your line of work and don't don't disrespect it at all like everyone's got to do what they've got to do but it'd be good to know i was just like yeah you could have just said and that was that was actually that yeah i was just like this is like this is actually kind
Starting point is 00:37:18 dangerous yeah i'm gonna stop getting involved in that yeah so yeah that was he was an absolute wild one a hoot yeah and that's when i'll be honest i don't think i ever got in a relationship after that for until i got in the relationship with connor because how long have you been with connor um just over three years now so we we got together just before the start of lockdown and then uh september last year we split up for a few months okay and we got that together so he's been through the journey yeah yeah we've definitely been on a journey together we we've obviously got together in lockdown which is something how did you meet um i actually knew his ex oh yeah yeah which is like always a funny story and i feel like i could talk about it now
Starting point is 00:37:59 because it's just it's that everyone has the journeys don't they and if i didn't know his ex i wouldn't have met connor so yeah it's it's all i can't you can't ignore a certain part of the story kind of um so yeah i knew his ex for many many years ago do you ever remember tumblr yes so i used to be i used to be quite big on tumblr yeah but like it was like but a bit more of like a explicit pinterest yeah yeah um i wasn't ever doing explicit stuff on it but it was there was it was very just like weird and moody and yeah very very strange platform and you were big on there then yeah yeah so i had quite a lot of followers on that um but there was like this tumblr community which used to go for like tumblr meetups and that was how i met um connor's ex
Starting point is 00:38:37 um and connor would always like whenever i'm guessing him and i don't actually know because i didn't actually speak to them much then but whenever him and his ex would kind of have times apart he'd always text me but then it would never progress onto anything and i'd just be like what are you even playing at here yeah and then he messaged me in i think it was around december time the the year before um lockdown and he was just like need to tell you something and then didn't hear off him again i'm an escort here we go um i really have a type of um but then a few months later he then messaged me and was like um so i'm single and i'd love to take you for a date that kind of thing so where did you go on your first day so i got a driver
Starting point is 00:39:17 i was really trying to be a big dog no i was really trying to be a big dog i was like it's fine i'll get a driver down well you've been la dating well exactly so yeah so i was really trying to like big big big myself up because i was like you've you've been messing with me for the past few years so i'm gonna i'm gonna show you i'm gonna show you who you're who you're messing with yeah um so i got a driver down to bristol and have you ever been to bristol it's quite a very fun place isn't it it's fun but there's like this big there's a big um um clifton observatory bridge i think it's called it's beautiful it's beautiful to look at and it was a gorgeous day and we just spent the day on the hill there it's a really good first date was it
Starting point is 00:39:52 love at first sight i think it was at the time yeah but then i think as we then our relationship progressed i moved down to bristol it's a long way away and then i think i i didn't fall out of with connor but i definitely fell out of love with us being together yeah um and then we split up for a little bit and then we had just had some time apart i literally begged for him back every single day oh did you yeah i'd write him poems and everything it was hilarious but then we we give it some time and now we're we're good we're good yeah we got back together at the start of this year so yeah and all is well yeah all is well all is well we've been on a real journey i like that though because i think it shows honesty and progression i like that you're
Starting point is 00:40:31 talking about it because it's not always the fairy tale and relationships like you you and yeah i split up with my husband you went and had a kid and came back oh really well this is fabulous you do have to split up to realize oh i'm glad we did because if i sorry lauren hopefully that won't happen to you if if i didn't split up with connor when i did or if we didn't split up with each other because i think he had to split up with me but anyway but if that didn't happen we would have ended up hating each other and i would we would have hated ourselves and maybe you did the mature thing you might have done something irreparable or irreparable how do you say that we know what you're saying yeah you'd be good you could have
Starting point is 00:41:10 just shagged everyone and it could have gone wrong well yeah right the next one's very serious question no serious now okay god i don't know if you're being sarcastic all right okay what's the fart that haunts you my boyfriend's farts really are they awful when he does it i just want to smack him do you fart in front of each other no why is it that we're so embarrassed by that because it is literally the most natural it is embarrassing but it shouldn't be yeah it shouldn't be i'll be honest i'm like if it happened to me i would be about i'd be more i'd want the ground to open up and swallow me oh but yeah i don't know why he sneezed and did one at the same time in a really big meeting and he came home and he was like stood in the kitchen being really quiet so god i forget
Starting point is 00:41:52 people at his work licenses but anyway and he was stood and i was like what's wrong and he was like I did a fart do you know what my mum I've told you did a did a she was with
Starting point is 00:42:08 a PT and he's younger like my age and he told her to do a kettlebell swing and she did a fart and she did like a and she said
Starting point is 00:42:17 she couldn't ignore it and he burst out laughing and she said that is the fart that will haunt her forever a kettlebell swing Trump
Starting point is 00:42:25 yeah I don't have any personal um good haunting that's good you've got free life like yeah i've i mean never say never we need to ask you when you're 50 because everyone does a trump by mistake yeah okay more let's be more serious now yeah this is quite a sit no this is serious it's a big dilemma you need to think now right so you one of your beautiful stunning bags has been stolen and in that is your makeup bag you're going somewhere but you can save three of the products oh easy um i'd do a blush i do a lip liner glad you're here i'll look no trip and i do see right through gloss yeah that gloss is as long as you've got your cheek and your lip you're okay yeah because i
Starting point is 00:43:08 feel like well it's really all of those i've got my blush which i can use on my cheeks and which shade but a shy boy okay i like coca-cola is it cherry cola you'd like a shy boy then it's a bit more of a pinkier tone of cherry cola i'm just obsessed with the palmer violet oh my god A palmer violet is gorgeous, isn't it? Can I ask you how on God's great earth we put that blush on? It's so easy, Lauren. I can put it on with no makeup, with loads of makeup. I want to know, right?
Starting point is 00:43:38 Because people will be asking this. Oh, no, of course. And I love it. I love it. But I'm not the best at getting it on. What brush do I use for this? You need the MF4. It's that angled fluffy.
Starting point is 00:43:47 I've got the set, so I should have it. You'll definitely have it. Did you get the 16-piece one? Yes, you did. I've been using this tiny thing, and it has been really not... Oh, is it the domed one? Yeah. Oh, is it not one of my brushes?
Starting point is 00:44:00 It's yours. Okay, so you'll be talking about the domed one. You need the more angled one. How big? It's about... It's like that. Are we boy-maffed here? Are we boy-maffed?
Starting point is 00:44:09 It's about that big. Oh, I'm not using that one. Yeah, you need that one. Mine's this big. MF4. And I know you put a tiny bit, and you... So, yeah, I just tap. Tap, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:18 But it depends if you... So, if you're doing it on top of no makeup, you can do a little bit of a buff. if it's on top of foundation when I'm doing it on top of foundation then it's a pat you could even literally put some on the back of your finger
Starting point is 00:44:26 on the back of your hand work it in and literally just kind of because I've got a few shades and sometimes I can do it and sometimes I can't I think you just need to make because it is a bit more
Starting point is 00:44:35 on the satin matte side yes you just need to make sure that you're working on top of really hydrated base that's all so it needs to be quite nothing dry
Starting point is 00:44:43 no I wouldn't put anything dry underneath blush because the reason why I made blush satin matte is because you can manipulate it whereas if you've got like a really dewy formula you can't really do you can't really change it too much um so if you
Starting point is 00:44:56 again you've got a matte if you've got something matte you can put like a really a thicker moisturizer underneath yeah to make it more glowy so okay it's just for me a bit more multi-use in a way okay again it looks nicer on the lips i'm glad we know that yeah can i ask another makeup question can i ask please please please please right okay i'm gonna ask you i feel like it's really important i really need to ask him something because everyone asks us under eye what do you do under the eye that makes it look really nice
Starting point is 00:45:19 what product to make it look flawless I think you need one of those powder puff a powder puff this changed the game yeah
Starting point is 00:45:26 do you know what though it's so funny because they're actually real products they've been around for years but it's like we've only just kind of caught back onto them
Starting point is 00:45:33 and what product do you think for under the eye what do you put on your clients I'm bringing out a concealer brilliant it's incredible it's so hydrating
Starting point is 00:45:41 so creamy so moussey it's beautiful really full coverage as well that's what us old ladies need This is what my question was for an old lady. Again, all of the undertones are... I always like something quite peachy underneath the eye.
Starting point is 00:45:52 Peachy or pinky, so it really cancels out any darkness. And then I'll go over it with a Huda Beauty powder. Is that the powder you like? The Huda Beauty? Yes, I love Huda Beauty. Cupcake, I think. Cupcake, yeah. Right, because that was my question.
Starting point is 00:46:04 You should try Cherry Blossom. Oh, I'll try Cherry Blossom. Okay, thank you. Stunning. Ashley, I had to ask that, sorry. We had hundreds of questions, but we've not got time. we need to get you back or we need to do something because honestly we had so many questions right okay but we've got this dilemma in now lauren and i got this dilemma in a few weeks ago and we
Starting point is 00:46:25 decided to put it to one side because we knew that you were coming in and we thought there is no one better to ask this question absolutely okay are you sitting comfortably guys i'm not let's do this i recently started a small business selling a makeup primer which i invested 10k my entire life savings into it's going okay but i'm really shocked at how my friends and family have acted all the overheads are on me i've taken a huge chance and i only take uh one sec i've taken a huge chance and only a small handful of friends have actually purchased my product and posted about it when i asked my sister my best friend and my mum if they'd tried it they said where's my free sample i feel so let down it's literally 17 pounds what should i do it's a tricky one it's
Starting point is 00:47:22 real tricky that because i kind of understand it like me personally i would give a freebie to anyone that's what I literally do every single day so I'm maybe looking at it from a bit of a different side but I think sometimes you have to learn that you have to give some stuff for free to get some real response back from it yeah so that's why brands do things like PR and stuff like that so yeah you might not have the budget to do it so on such a heavy scale but it's you have to take a step forward I think if you want to improve the brand and you want to learn about the product and learn about people's responses to it it's that kind of the hit you have to take away yeah so it's a bit like for us like we what we do is say when we do one of our big sales so
Starting point is 00:48:04 say blush is five pounds people are always like oh my god like it's so cheap but the because it's so cheap so many people are speaking about it so many people and again we might not make as much money on it but instead of us paying like a marketing agency or pr it's it's a big super model to wear exactly it's doing it in a way more organic way for us that is only kind of just circling back on itself rather than coming to a dead end yeah so i get it and i get you do kind of go into starting a business venture with everyone's going to support it but it's just not the reality um i wish it could be because that would be lovely but not everyone not everyone even has a spare 17 pounds or not everyone thinks that they should prioritize their money for that
Starting point is 00:48:44 you know so and it's their money yeah exactly so you've got to just kind of take it on your chin and if you want this enough then you you keep going you know so but i do i do get it it's frustrating but i think it's nobody owes you anything do you think it's a bit self-important to assume that they should spend 70 pounds on your business venture i do yeah a little bit again i i understand it comes from a real it doesn't come from a negative place at all because you just want people to be proud of you but you don't have you can't you can't expect anything from anyone i think you really can't they should all have done a post because a post yeah a post isn't going to cost them anything you don't have to buy the product but you could still do the post and
Starting point is 00:49:26 say oh my god my look at this yeah best friend my sister and my mum like a post oh yeah absolutely maybe just say to him like guys if you do me a post i'll give you a free yeah yeah but i think also your best friend your sister and your mum like if it's the primer just give them a little bit your primer yeah there's ways around it if you that means that you don't have to eat into your stock it's i think sometimes you might feel a bit butthurt by it yeah then it stops you from actually thinking let it go yeah yeah so let go of it and put them in a little tester pop for them like i feel you've hit the nail head this person's been a bit butthurt over yeah it's but i get it because it's a big deal it's a big deal when you start something and you maybe don't get the
Starting point is 00:50:03 response you expected but again you just can't expect anything from yes it's all on you you've got to be your own biggest fan yeah good advice love that right well then thank you for having me my loves i could have just talked to you i've got so many makeup questions that i just Well, we'll come back and we'll do this again. We'll do it when the concealer's out. Favourite foundation at the minute? My own foundation. It's not out yet, but it's so good.
Starting point is 00:50:27 But it's not out yet. When's, when? I think probably next year. It's quite long. It's a big thing, the foundation. Well, wait, I was going to say to you, I guess foundation's probably the biggest. So we've got a concealer and a foundation coming.
Starting point is 00:50:38 And a primer. So I hope you all post it. What about a spray? A spray's coming. That's going to be here at the end of the month, actually. Well, if it's anything like the stuff that I've used already, then it's going to be you're going to love it
Starting point is 00:50:49 amazing I'm excited thank you genuinely thank you thank you for coming on we've loved absolutely thank you so much for having me and what a lovely nose
Starting point is 00:50:55 you have I think we've all got some good noses a table of good noses yeah camp and good noses oh yeah yeah the best way
