Nip Tuck - Lauren & Dani Doll Beauty

Episode Date: July 29, 2026

This week, with Ashley on maternity leave, Lauren is joined by the one and only Dani Gregory (aka Dani Doll Beauty) for one of the most honest conversations we've ever had on Nip Tuck. For the first ...time, Dani opens up about what was really happening behind the scenes at Doll Beauty, as the business faced its toughest year yet. From almost losing the company she'd spent a decade building, making costly financial mistakes, and the heartbreaking decision to let staff go, to dealing with bailiffs at her door while social media painted a picture of success. Dani also shares the truth behind the end of her six-year relationship, why walking away was the hardest but right decision, how she's rebuilt herself from the inside out, and why she's finally ready to put herself first.Head over to our socials @niptuckpod and click the link in our bio to find our YouTube, where full video episodes will be released every Wednesday at 5pm. Starting point is 00:00:00 This has been the hardest year of my life with business, but the biggest lessons I've come out of this as well. And it's irresponsible to take people on and then have to let them go. And not be able to... Yeah, not be able to pay the wages. It's like irresponsible. So you... I'm going to believe you. No, don't. No, I think this is... It's important because as well, you're a lovely person and you don't want to let people down.
Starting point is 00:00:21 Oh my God, no. But we all... As long as you do things with a good intention, which you always have, no one's perfect. Social media is so fake that when I was doing my house up and I'm videoing upstairs, like, my house, there's, like, a bailiff at the door trying to get this fucking money from me last month. So I am. I can't be employed.
Starting point is 00:00:42 There's nobody that would take me on. And I was thinking of jobs I could do, and I'm thinking, it's not fucking happening. Let's be honest, I'm unemployable. Do you know what? So, even though I'm a hard worker... Yeah, she's fucking unemployable. learn hello it's me on my own again but i'm not on my own i have got i said this you know on um
Starting point is 00:01:05 last week's episode danny doll but like that's just i don't think i even know your surname i actually don't think any because you just danny doll that's like that's your name so i've got danny on now we're doing a main and we're doing a bonus and we're going to talk everything so danny was on quite a few years ago and so much has happened since so we're gonna have a massive massive update as you know every Wednesday Nip Talk is in your ears and then on a Friday as well if you want the bonus if you want the extra you can join Patreon and you can watch it as well or Apple subs you can listen to us lastly if you want to get in touch with us head over to our socials at Nip Talk Pod and all the ways that you can contact us are on there but yeah
Starting point is 00:01:45 if you've just tuned in I am on my own without Ashley because she's off being a mother she'll be back soon but for now we've got danny right now that's been done welcome back thanks babes thanks for having me oh anytime do you know what when was it when did you come on it was when we were in the studio with you how many years ago that was yeah it would have been like 2021 what it was 2021 no 22 22 was it four years ago three or four years ago i'm gonna say yeah to yell a lot a lot has happened since so there's loads to catch up on guys maybe go back and listen to that first one i wonder if that's even still available maybe not don't know yeah we'll be like go and listen to it so we've got danny back for for various reasons but really just have a massive
Starting point is 00:02:34 catch-up yeah i think there's so you are a nip tuck girl through and through yeah that's why we love you you've had a huge change in your personal circumstances so you are single now single you have had huge change within your business and you documented that a lot as well didn't you you've been really open about that which i think's yeah really good your property developing you're here you're there you've had surgery you've had a body trans fucking formation you're healthy you're wealthy i told you it was the end did you remember yeah you went you're not having another gastric sleeve i went i might do i don't know you know um and look at you so we've got loads to catch loads so can we go right back to the fucking beginning let me get me there's a lot guys
Starting point is 00:03:17 god i need to wrap my brain this perimenopausal brain is like he's gonna forget what where she's come from come on let's start with the first thing that everyone nosy brenda's want to know you're single now yeah okay how do you feel um it was it was hard to get over it was it's the longest relationship that i've ever come out of we were together for six years and i kind of became an adult with mason it's funny even though he was 13 years younger than me i grew up with him with him yeah because so how how old were you when you got together oh god he was he was 23 um oh i know bloody hell joan collins eat your heart out um and he's 13 years so i'm 13 years older than him so i must have been what 36 yeah yeah and you were together for six years six years and he was on
Starting point is 00:04:05 your insta we all knew about him it was all very from the outside sweet perfect great yeah all going well you changed a lot while you were with him yeah image wise yeah and also growing up about seven different looks you were a lot of different people during that time and he stopped by yeah yeah he did he did it happened i feel like we both changed in a way so he obviously was building his business you know he gets busier um and it comes to the stage when you want when you're starting to talk serious business like kids yeah you know he mason is a guy that has to be a dad is everybody's like james he's everybody's like godfather and he when we went on holiday with all because all my mates have got kids and we used to go on holiday with everyone because we love the
Starting point is 00:04:54 kids yeah i just didn't want my own yeah but he'd be he'd be the first one in the pool before the dads and he's just he just had to be a dad and I started to kind of notice this and I thought you know we are going to go on different paths and we just did go on different paths I did I did I've said this in my broadcast group on Instagram I just did start to feel a little bit lonely and I started to lose myself and I feel that you come into this world on your own you've got to start thinking about yourself and yeah and I just yeah he was busy and I just I seen the future and I know you shouldn't try and predict the future you should try and go with the flow but I did see the future and i thought he's definitely gonna want kids and i don't want kids i'm 42 even though
Starting point is 00:05:31 these guys think you could probably have them when you're 46 no you can't we haven't changed things massively change and i just thought no i don't know whatever selfish but am i going to get to 50 he would be 35 i'm getting fucked off when i'm looking you know when i'm you're getting fucked off for a younger model do you know what no that cannot happen to me come on i can see I can and I normally oh don't be daft but you probably
Starting point is 00:05:59 would have done 100% it's the way of the world for a couple of reasons of course it is men always want fucking younger women yeah
Starting point is 00:06:04 and I can do as many facelifts I can do as many tummy tucks not that I would do that for a fella but listen it's just
Starting point is 00:06:11 that is what's gonna happen because you have to be a dad and the child thing as well this is the other thing you have to be a dad I think I've got a friend in a similar situation
Starting point is 00:06:18 and I have said to her and it might be the wrong advice it might be something you're not meant to say out loud but as you know on Nip Tuck we fucking say it how it is always i said to her that man will want a child right you just know
Starting point is 00:06:29 you don't want any you're gonna get there's a big age gap you're gonna get to a certain age and he is gonna look at women that can provide him with the child and want to provide him with the child yeah and his eyes gonna wander yeah because if you don't want children and he does it ain't gonna work yeah when you first got together though you don't talk about kids right so do you think you just kind of snowballed without that that maybe he thought maybe she'll change your mind and you thought maybe I'll change my mind and then did you just get to a point where you thought this is now becoming at the forefront we both did yeah it was it was an adult conversation do you know what's hard in a relationship like this because we were perfect together
Starting point is 00:07:04 what's hard is finishing over something that's like so serious yeah it's hard because you've got you've got to make adult decisions right there and you've got it and you've got to end it with no other complications you didn't cheat like people think has he cheated has she cheated there's something must have gone on it was nothing we was best friends he was a little bit busy and a little bit selfish at times I'm not going to big him up too much for all these women
Starting point is 00:07:30 out there like he wants me to but you know it was kind of perfect so to end over that you've got to be an adult about it but I just do recommend having this conversation way in advance because I kind of knew I didn't want kids did you know though because when we had you on the pod
Starting point is 00:07:46 I don't know I'm always confused I was always confused I think you were on the fence but I don't think there's anything wrong with that because why do you have to make that decision
Starting point is 00:07:55 I'm not ready why do you have to say yes or no I'm still not ready you still don't know I still I'm not obviously I'm not going to be able
Starting point is 00:08:01 to have my own kids now I'm too old you've got to meet someone you've got to like ease your way into that relationship oh I don't know I just get with them
Starting point is 00:08:08 and I just get pregnant dead quick my mate did she met someone four weeks and she's still with him now eight years on so it doesn't
Starting point is 00:08:15 but for me I know what you mean for me I'm just that little bit different i probably have to get to know people and trust people trust is a massive thing for me to like make that kind of commitment but for me it's not a no for adoption ah okay it's not a no to do something like that so i've got time let's talk i want to talk to you more about that so let's hold the baby because hold the baby i want to talk to you in more detail about that because i do think
Starting point is 00:08:38 that there will be people out there that are in a similar position yeah do a lot of the time on patreon we get asked i don't know if i want kids so i want to i want to talk about that in a little bit more detail so you split up yeah how long ago a year right and and how was that like how did you manage because I guess you still loved each other yeah in a way it was kind of we were kind of split up before we actually split up because you're distanced don't you you start doing your own thing yeah you start doing your own thing like going on holiday I was going on holiday on my own and just I kind of was on my own for quite a while before that so like we've split up officially like a year did it make it easier that you'd already almost started separate lives a little bit not
Starting point is 00:09:19 some yeah it did it wasn't long like ages living a separate life but it was it was coming we we knew it was coming i knew it was coming and then how do you navigate you've split up for a really serious reason and a really fair reason like what do you what can you do about like that's a yeah that's a decision maker what do you do about how do you then like you live you know similar you've got similar friends you're in similar circles you know like how do you then navigate the fact that we're not together anymore because of something really serious but i've got to see you i've got like was it really really hard to let him go if we're kind of still friends now like you know we do speak so we've not we fully let go of the relationship but we do kind of speak and i don't
Starting point is 00:10:02 want to like i don't want an enemy he wants i don't he's not my enemy he was my best friend for six years i find it really sad that when people do split that it is just the thing isn't it that you can't you know when you move on to next partners you can't be friends with that person it's like illegal isn't it to be friends whereas me i would like to keep everyone in my life because i feel it's special but you can't can you because people don't accept that so that's the thing and i totally agree that with chris one of my best best best friends we were together when we were 14 until we were 20 yeah and we split up so that was now 16 years ago yeah that we split up we have remained best friends since that day because and i agree with you why he's special to me yeah not
Starting point is 00:10:46 in a romantic way yeah but he's so special to me we've been through so much together why can't he still be in my life why do we have to fall out with everyone it's the future isn't it it's like it's not it's not really our choice it's probably the future partners that have got an issue with it that's the problem and it's sad isn't it it is sad because it's like the end it is really the end of that chapter because you can't continue to to be so you are still being in each other's lives even though yeah we're still we're still friends it's we've just gone through the bits now like i seen him the other day um with a girl in the house i was going to ask that yeah how's that how how it's it's obviously like you just it's that next stage like he's seen i'm
Starting point is 00:11:27 seeing someone else it's just that next stage and it's it's like the different stages and it's it's difficult every time isn't it it's does it sting is it still a bit weird I'm not like I'm not like oh my god I can't you know I just feel like yeah of course because you know it's the it's the end of that chapter and you know he's moving on and each time it's like right now we navigate all any financial whatever that now we navigate new people so it's like that step it's step by step but he's never going to be fully out of my life I'm always going to kind and know what's going on his mum works in my salon his brother goes out with my best friend so it's like it is chess there is a really small world so it's like but you've just got you've just
Starting point is 00:12:07 got to move on and know what was right for each of you yeah you've just got to know and it's that thing of what's right for you won't pass you by yeah and if it wasn't right then that's the universe and that's the way you move i am so like if that's it's for you it won't go by you like that and i always know if it if we weren't meant to split up we wouldn't have split up it wouldn't have been this long you know we wouldn't have met other people like i believe in the universe so much i trust in it so much same always i just think like all what's been going on there's so much shit been going on i'm thinking what's it teaching me yeah not what is it happening to me what's it making way for yeah what's it making way for it's always something better it's whatever bad has
Starting point is 00:12:45 happened to me in the past and there's so much there's always something better that's caught and i'm not saying that there's someone better than mason going to come along but there's someone different going to come along right more right for what your different situation so you know like like i said about the adoption thing like the next person might be into that he wasn't he wanted his own kid so there's a reason there's always a reason season or a lifetime they say don't they so i feel like that needed to be discussed yeah because people want to know and so the fact of the matter is they're in he didn't cheat we didn't swing together and he went off with somebody you know no but you know what people when they don't know because i really
Starting point is 00:13:18 haven't discussed him because i felt like i had like such a loyalty to mason like i don't want to ever like he's quite private he's like james and he i don't he doesn't want his life being discussed by people so what's really hard i think when you've got i mean james has now come on board with the whole thing yeah because i think james has seen this i think he's seen that listen he's paying the bills yeah it's i'm involved and he's he's moved he's kind of got there but i do think it's hard when you're such an open person like you are like i am and you're an instagram presence yeah you know tiktok and all the rest of it but they're not it's like you want to tell everyone it's like you kind of think i'd tell you everything i'm not asked but you've got to protect other
Starting point is 00:13:58 people and their thoughts and feelings yeah but that's answered it now your mates it's all good no drama all good how have you found being single yeah all right i really i really started to just enjoy my own company yeah although i was anyway i've always liked my own company but just yeah i've i've enjoyed it it's been good i think it's important to do that yeah in order i was single for about 18 months listen i didn't have much of my own company i fucking a lot of company let's say oh yeah i had company left right and center however i think having that time on your own means that when you do meet that next person you're right you're right in the right frame of mind you're right because imagine meeting the right person and you've not done the work on
Starting point is 00:14:40 yourself what a fucking waste and there's always that as well there's that connection to the previous relationship i don't i just think jumping straight into something else it's going to get very complicated and messy like i think you need to have a gap at least a year i can't be arsed with people they've got to be very like very special like they've got to have something something about something interesting something interesting and i've never and i'm not saying this in like a cocky way but i've never gone on a dating site or anything like that they always kind of land it's like i get given a project and they're like oh here there you go that's there he is he's gorgeous just what you asked for but maybe i'm just destined for toy boys i james is older
Starting point is 00:15:18 than me um but and he'll say it i i don't mind it's something about a toy boy i've never been into an older man see i've not had an older man because i think i find i'm really immature and i feel like i can't be that i feel like i'd have to always maybe put on an act i agree i'm far too and the way my life the things i do like leaving my doors open like doing all this i feel like they try and bother me and i don't want a dad i've never had a dad i don't want you want to be the mummy no i don't know clearly you said you didn't want you said you didn't want i feel like a dominant male and you know i'm like a tall guy well i love your outlook on that yeah i love how you think about that and your outlook on very similar to mine about what's meant to be will
Starting point is 00:16:00 happen and you yeah don't force it what tips do you have for anyone that is going through a bit of a breakup focus on yourself i i literally did everything that i could do to focus on myself i did the reiki i did the sound baths i did the healing i healed from the inside like i just really worked on myself i did not go out there to get under someone to get over someone i did not do that i want it i actually said to myself i want two years like i need two years to just get myself back together work on me work on my business I think you I know it's cheesy you are the biggest project you'll ever work on it's the truth because you said you can't drag this this shit into the next relationship you've got to be a hundred percent your best self to go into the
Starting point is 00:16:44 next and I really there's so much going on with work if I wouldn't have focused on myself I don't know where I would be now I'm going to be honest you needed that I needed that time I needed to heal like and there's so many ways I always say in my group you know do these reiki sessions do this and it really helps like working on yourself spiritually as well as on the outside the internal the gym and all just focus on yourself get you get yourself to the best version that you can ever be that's something i've always said to people my friends that are single i've always said look one day someone like you will drop out of the sky they don't think it's gonna happen you can't believe it's gonna happen it doesn't make sense like james all of a sudden from fucking
Starting point is 00:17:20 nowhere slid into my dms husband done what you planned in your head finished how where was he it just they drop just appeared and it will happen but it's hard to believe that so what i always say is that will happen so you've got a period of time now before one day that man drops out the sky and you want to get your shit sorted get yourself to a good position career-wise yeah get your work stuff in order get your health in order get your mental in order get your home in order so that when he's dropped out the sky you can focus on him and your relationship not the shit that's going on yeah because it'll spoil it yeah it does that's so true because like i always worry because like i started my business like what a year or so ago but you know obviously as a gay man we age in
Starting point is 00:18:04 dog years so i'm like what 65 at the moment and my worry you're aging backwards from what i can see from the last time i met you you look amazing yeah i just worry that if i don't like do it now and i just focus on work i'm gonna be like well fuck i'm you know i'll pass that point now no because imagine if the dream guy gets dropped on your lap and you're not everything else isn't calm and sorted you won't be the best version of yourself and it might not work and you've then wasted the man getting dropped out the sky you've wasted it and it'll only last for the honeymoon period and then that's what happens i think you get these relationships when you're not ready and they they go past the honeymoon period everybody's masks drops and then it's
Starting point is 00:18:46 and you're fucked and then not only are you still dealing with the shit you never sorted out the one before that the work you never sorted out the house you never sorted out
Starting point is 00:18:56 the health then you've got the trauma of this fucking one as well and it continues and then it's all built up built up built up and how are you meant to
Starting point is 00:19:06 be the right person for the right man when you've got all this trauma baggage baggage but work no no no this I know
Starting point is 00:19:15 put it put it on a pedestal but my my lesson is I've give it I've give my work my 100% attention for the last 10 years and that's one of my biggest regrets I should have lived a bit because it's not the be all and end all making money is not the be all and end all like am I looking around now looking at you and Ashley with your kids and you think you know in your relationships is is having that money and that experience with doll beauty what I've done in the past the the what I'm gonna of put on my tombstone yeah so just do give you do give it your all but i wouldn't give it don't give it don't let it take away from everything don't give it your everything this is what i've learned now i'm literally going i'm gonna work hard but it's not gonna be my 100% focus because
Starting point is 00:19:58 i'm my 100% focus yeah i let go of a lot of shit i let go of like everything to do with me while i was building dog yeah didn't give a shit about me or like my my future or then again it's like the relationship thing yeah how do you then be the everything you need at work when you've let yourself get to a not great position and it's like a relationship again yeah how are you meant to do the best in business when your head's fucked when you it's like it is it's the chicken so we need to talk about business it's been this has been the hardest year of my life with business so but the biggest lessons i've come out of this as well when you came on the pod doll was flying well it Looked like it was.
Starting point is 00:20:37 It looked like it was. Yeah. To us. Do you know what? For eight years, we bootstrapped. We didn't lend any money. We were flying. But at the same time, we were irresponsible
Starting point is 00:20:49 because we weren't looking at... We didn't bring in a... You know, instead of putting money into a financial person to come into the company like an FD, we put our money into photo shoots. We put our money into branding. So it looked... Of course.
Starting point is 00:21:00 It's fur coat, no knickers. So it looked to us like you were going from fucking strength to strength. you were the products were in shops they were on different websites you had the i can't remember what car it was the big pink g-wagon no after g-wagons rolex this that the other and it looked from the outside like you were just going from strength to strength yeah and then and i didn't know either i look great to me um all amazing and then i don't know when this was but i feel like it was longer than a year ago you all of a sudden came on like the way i remember it was a
Starting point is 00:21:33 year i think i think it was a year yeah he came on tiktok yeah and you were like right that's not how it looks this isn't the truth i just i you know what i'd been embarrassed about everything and i thought imagine how many people are feeling embarrassed and then they're watching me and they're seeing she's thinking god she's doing amazing that's what i said in my video everyone's messaging me wow you're smashing it you're doing this you're doing that i was living a lie and you can't carry a lie because it's not it's not it wasn't doing good so tell us from the beginning tell us from the beginning when you started to think now this ain't going to plan it's just when you have to let your staff go when you're coming out of boots when the money's not
Starting point is 00:22:11 flowing when you have to start lending money and it's just like everything was catching up with us that we'd not put the infrastructure in place from the very beginning so it's all catching up now and it gets it gets eight years was it just that the sales went down was it that you made bad choices we couldn't pay for the stock we couldn't pay for the stock so we've got a massive stock range obviously so to fill a boot stand with like say you've got 50 SKUs on that boot stand you've got to pay for those SKUs so we were like how are we going to pay for the lip gloss this month how are we going to pay for this and it was just it was not planned properly there was no one running the cash flow laws it was just like literally we were just when we were flying and we were in top shop
Starting point is 00:22:49 money was just coming in so we just pay for the stock didn't analyze it didn't look at it so when you come into a stage when you've not got the funds then you're like shit how are we going to pay for that then we've got to wait to pay for that then we've got to do this were you using so i i'm not a bit listen i've never pretended that i'm a business gal but neither am i but i've learned a little bit i'm telling you now i'm not pretending now i've learned a bit more from having my my brand is my business yeah um i've learned a bit more about things like saving for tax yeah and corporations and all that shit and i've also learned that when the money comes in you can't just spend it funnily enough because you're gonna have to need it so were you just spending
Starting point is 00:23:29 it like it was coming in and you were like hey sam this is coming should we go both going back was that how it was it was 100% how it was happening you think i'm a council kid come from nothing i've got a bit of money and i'm like a money gun yeah let's just spend let's spend don't get me wrong what we've done is build an amazing brand like brand awareness was so good people know who doll beauty is that's a massive achievement however we did it the wrong way around like we should have been looking at the the intricate details of the finance and doing everything that we had to do with that rather than just spending money to get brand awareness like this so what would you recommend if someone's starting a business what are the main things at the beginning
Starting point is 00:24:06 that they need to have in place that you didn't a financial advice 100 somebody to manage your cash flow somebody you can build an amazing brand but if your cash flow if your cash isn't going in the right places you're just going to fail anyway it might take eight years to catch up with you like it did with us yeah but it might catch up with you in a year yeah of course we're now we've been going through hell we've nearly lost the business like two months ago um we've had to let go all of our friends which is like the most the worst so at what point yeah i can't so and it's irresponsible to take people on and then have to let them go able to yeah not be able to pay the wages it's like irresponsible so yeah i'm gonna believe no don't right no i think this is it's
Starting point is 00:24:47 important because as well you're a lovely person and you don't want to let people down oh my god no but we all you as long as you do things with a good intention which you always have no one's perfect so things started going a bit shit they've got they've went from bad to worse we got we got so then we realized the rebrand was like why did you do the rebrand just it was ashley's event actually it was um you know claire she's gorgeous and she she went oh my god i don't know what her daughter's name is but she said oh my my daughter loves your products and i thought oh no no no we need you to love the products so it was kind of that was like a kickstart i already knew it was looking a little bit not like aesthetically pleasing for me i don't want to
Starting point is 00:25:29 be stood on tiktok in a pink jumper selling do you think that's because you've changed you think yeah you've changed and you've grown up we wanted we wanted to move with the times we wanted it aesthetic we've got a little bit aesthetic so but the when you wipe so basically the start of the year we just me and sam just said let's just wipe the stock let's just get rid of all the old stock sale sell it through then we'll just start fresh right so our plan was to just be able to start fresh so you got rid of you we sold through everything everything see what you've got almost stock gone we'll start again start again it's as easy as that but then you can't do that because you've got your historic debts you've got your historic fat you've got your historic stuff
Starting point is 00:26:06 which we didn't consider did we we just thought again the money was just going to turn in yeah the rebrand was going to be amazing it's always just gone well it's just gone well and we've winged it and we've been lucky but now it's a fresh start it's good so basically we had three months last year with no stock at all so obviously you you still got to pay that when when these months up you and you've got nothing to sell yeah then we've got one skew then we've got two skew we built it back up the the rebrand looks amazing it's been really successful the products look great because people know the products are fucking great so that's not an issue it's not it's not an issue the products are amazing the formulas are even better now everything is in
Starting point is 00:26:40 place so anyway so we get to the point we've got no stock then an investor comes on board nearly get fucked over with this guy um it's it i can't really talk about it too much until everything goes through so so what's the name for people that are like you know not just somebody's putting money in someone comes in and says i am going to give you this money that you need right now to get back on your feet but in return i want a percentage of the company yeah and i want to own ips you know that even i know about the ip thing just ashley's always said to me we keep our you've got to keep it it's most important thing it's the most valuable thing what it was i don't really still know what it was i didn't even know what d2c was direct to consumer and i don't i don't
Starting point is 00:27:19 d2c company for eight years you don't need to know all of this stuff you just need to put the right people in place and it's this it's so weird what's going on now because we're 10 years old on the 9th of july right and on the 8th of july this new this new new person not the one that tried to have us off is taking over right so someone tried to have you off but we can't talk about that massively yet many people that have tried to have us off but anyway it's put put us into a situation where we could have lost the company completely how did you feel about that was there a bit of you that thought fuck this no because i'm no i'm unemployable for one no i am i can't be employed there's nobody that would take me on and i was thinking of jobs i could do and i'm thinking it's
Starting point is 00:27:59 not fucking happening let's be honest i'm unemployable so even though i'm a hard worker i'm not that type of business so there's all there's stuff on the back burner for me anyway that i'm setting up i've obviously got we're going to talk about your properties we're going to talk about that as well for me my identity is dull like everything that i've ever done good in my life like i said i've given my whole 10 years to this bloody business i'm not going to give it up as easy so we've got someone in place now 10 years old on the 9th of july somebody's coming and on the 8th it's not we're not we're not best happy about everything as yet only because like there's it's bittersweet isn't it when you've when your team's gone and we're back to me and sam i
Starting point is 00:28:39 know you've got a bit upset about this but i'm still gonna ask you yeah because that's what we're for what so what when you say did you have you've almost started afresh you've had to get rid of everybody's gone everyone apart from the salon because salons a separate business yes everybody's gone yeah everyone that we lewis everyone that we know we couldn't pay pay the wages it's been a really really really bad situation and it's like you you that for me out of everything that's gone on it's been the hardest thing like sitting them people down and like telling them that oh god you could need to crop this lip out now do you need it do you need have we got tissue you know i do the girl a tissue no but dan this is real and i know you don't want to
Starting point is 00:29:26 get upset and i and that's and i get that but this is real shit and i think people need to say that like you're a real person these people how many staff members did you have down now we had over 200 at a time didn't you know because when we yeah and then just you know and me being me i wanted to employ friends sam always didn't because she kind of thought about this situation about the long term about the long term but i always know that people that love you work hard of here yeah and then you want to do more for them oh my god like i've all i wanted to do really is just give people like a good job yeah and like make it really enjoyable as well as work and then we've just ended up in this terrible situation and you can't they're never going to forgive for
Starting point is 00:30:18 this and you didn't mean to do it but they honestly was they they will not just because of the way that things have panned out but the thing is though dan you you people who know you surely know that you've not got a bad bone in your body but it's not the point is it's like it's still people's livelihoods loved their jobs you know so it's like and now i've got we've give percentage away so it's not fully my choice which is probably the best thing that's ever going to happen oh god yeah do you know like it's not it's not really i'm not a decision i will be a decision maker obviously because i'm part of the company i've still got a big chunk but i'm not that might be a good thing i honestly think i'll run the business instagram do you not think that might
Starting point is 00:31:00 be a good thing no but what it is though the thing is you know you've said you've come you've come like you've just said from a council house background not as anything you know that was in foster care and everything which people don't know so i've had like a really bad and look away you've come so it's like you know to to come from that to this but at the same time you've got to be responsible haven't you and the thing is though you're we're not all experts at everything you just need to not spend you need to spend your money carefully yeah that's all so you're back so listen though this is like a i think this is good lessons for people it's gonna be good and this is what i want to go into because we took out pg loans on the company it's
Starting point is 00:31:45 it's i want to go into like coaching like and talking and helping small businesses start up because i want it to be like the mistakes that i didn't that i made i don't want you to make the same because like i was saying i was talking to sam on the way here and i said i'm just i do want to talk about the um the loans the personal guarantee because to do the rebrand we'd never lent any money ever for dollar we'd always just worked and just with our own working capital but because we were so confident the rebrands still are we lent 400 000 pounds um on to just to just get the products and just bring it out we were so confident we lent it off a company so a broker got us a 400 000 pound loan which we'd never wanted to do before and we just said you know
Starting point is 00:32:27 what fuck it we're gonna it's gonna smash it we're we're gonna do amazing which we still will but then you have to give it them back no so the pg it's you sign a personal guarantee right which you never would we were that confident of course we're going to sign a personal guarantee what does a personal guarantee mean it's your house is on the line you're personally responsible for the the debt you're personally responsible so we didn't but at the same time someone's lending 400 of grand they need to know that you know but it usually would be on a company so if you wrap a company up you just don't you write the debts gone whereas if you're pg you carry that over so it's like social media is so fake that when i was doing my house up and i'm videoing upstairs
Starting point is 00:33:09 like my my house there's like a bailiff at the door trying to get this fucking money from me last month so it's like upstairs like here's the tour and i'm just and this the the anxiety that you're going through for for all this stuff like people just don't even realize do they but it's just this is what i wanted we're out of this situation now because the new investor has helped us to get out of it but i just want i just need people to be aware that this is you just don't take these decisions like lightly yeah because this if we wouldn't have had this investor that's helped us out what would the house would have gone of course they would have because you they They can bankrupt you and take your house.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Wow, that's scary, isn't it? So it's idiots, idiots signing PG's and getting the, we didn't probably need it anyway. We just wanted to bring everything out at the same time. Yeah. Just irresponsible. So that's a lesson, that's a lesson. There's so many lessons.
Starting point is 00:34:01 I'm 100% going to get into like talks. I think you should. And like, there's a woman that I've met along this journey. There's so much I've learned. Like I've learned more in the last year about business than I knew in the whole nine years before. because you've probably had two now oh my god yeah you've got in a position where you're thinking right i need to know about this i've got to know about this but there's a lady roxanne from female
Starting point is 00:34:20 founder finance right who's helped us so much with advice and getting us out of the shit basically she's been amazing um but yeah she she will just help anybody who wants to get some kind of finance especially females she supports and it's it's to benefit us like where the aprs are low and the payment terms are better and just there's so much more help out there than these crooks that email you and say do you want to you know like get you into this situation as well you when you're in a stressful situation you make panic quick decisions of course and it was they were your head's not in the right place space you're panicking yeah and it's all right panicking and you know getting the wrong order at a restaurant's one thing when they come and ask you
Starting point is 00:35:05 400 grand against your own personal which they told us it was not it's don't worry you're signing a thingy but it's not going to your house is not at risk your house is always at risk if that's if that's the only asset you've got that's what they're going to take that's what they're going to yeah so just it's just to be aware and just you know build small right and we should just build it out from people that know what they're doing yeah they know what they're doing that's why roxanne is like she's like she's all for female founders and she'll make sure that you've got the right finance and her husband's in finance as well but they're caring nice people they're not just out to get what they can get yeah because a lot of people you can't trust
Starting point is 00:35:46 no you cannot trust this is what i've learned in the last six months there's people that would like my granddad that were talking to me so oh my god and i'm like and you think oh they're gonna you're gonna help me they're all sharks just be aware just have your wits about you i'm terrible I'm a streetwise person. In the end, it was me that spotted. I was like, no, he's a wolf in sheep's clothing. We need to like have advice on this. And before we signed things, it was luckily we got out of it.
Starting point is 00:36:08 But just have your wits about you and just check, double check on everybody. So now, we're moving on. Fresh start, fresh beginnings. All that's happened. You've learned a shit ton of stuff. Loads of stuff. You've kept all.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Kept all. Still got it. Yeah. And we're starting again. What are we doing now? How do you start again? What happens? Or do you start again underneath?
Starting point is 00:36:28 but we don't really know you start like yeah it's it's kind of like you're the consumer is not going to see a difference really only a three-month break um so the three-month break is obviously getting the stock because when you're buying from overseas as well your cash flow is hard because you're buying you buy your stock you have to put deposit down which is 50 then you've got to wait three months for it to be made then before it leaves where it's coming you've got to pay you the rest of the balance then your travel time before you've even sold any of it it's like nine months before you're getting your money back and you've got to pay for it all and i guess there's minimum orders and all that kind of thing and it's overseas you don't get your back back so it's like
Starting point is 00:37:05 there's loads of like different things but this this guy who's coming on board is amazing right he's a financial genius thank god and he's fucking he's got money yeah he's got he's got deep pockets right as he keeps saying got deep pockets so he's got deep pockets sounds like quite a catch yeah yeah well who knows but he knows the um he knows that the potential of doll he's seen doll he knows the potential he knows what we can do and our our only struggle was money and stock just having the stocking because the want for the product is like everybody's there oh my god we get messages all the time you know um lip liner lip liner lip liner you do anyway do we got one the other day on patreon like anyone know where i can get the lip liner that all and i was like i'm getting
Starting point is 00:37:44 messages every day where the fuck are they we've turned the website off have you yeah well what's the point i guess what's the point they've been there if no one can buy turn the website off we come off tiktok shop ages ago anyway because that what happened with that then tiktok shop they they had us in a bit of a catch situation where we were having to discount the products and i just said no we're doing we're done it's done we're done we will go back on tiktok shop but we'll sell for full price we'll work with the affiliates so they get like more benefits to selling our products full price we just were in a situation where we were desperate and we were needing to sell products and i said we're not that desperate we're going to sell that for two
Starting point is 00:38:15 pounds no not a chance it's undervaluing us and and the future of us depended on these times when we've had to like come off tiktok because we want to be in south ridges we want to be in sephora we want to be in these places and that's what our aim is so if we've got to take a hit now that's fine for me yeah because it's for the bigger goal for the bigger goal for the bigger end goal because this next 10 years now is going to be the the big money maker 100 i feel like it's it's going to be the the proper business yeah it's going to be like a proper business already not a hobby you've got the yeah everyone knows what what everyone knows what doll is everyone knows the products products are great yeah and now you've sorted the other shit out properly now it's like now because you've
Starting point is 00:38:58 already got something that so many businesses haven't you've got the brand awareness you're established yeah and you've got the great products everyone loves the data the customer you've got all that we've got it all we've made it better just before so it's like now we've got this financial genius on board who's really target driven who knows about seo who knows about marketing which we never even touch marketing believe it or not we never ever did a paid ad it's all organic so imagine somebody that's coming in that knows that side of things how you can really rock it like refi built from one ad so jess hunt doing that that eyebrow thing that jess hunt did they built that brand from one ad and one product now we're going to do that with
Starting point is 00:39:38 the the experience with the customer already on board we're going to do it that way around so that the marketing it's just it's i'm i'm excited but like i said because i'm a people person it's bittersweet for me because we've not going we're not taking the people with us and because you've got this new excitement but i guess there's then a bit of a guilt wrapped up that we've got something good going on things are about to rocket we're sure of this it's going to work we're going to be good but at the same time there's a lot of people that we love and care about yeah that are now looking for a job yeah and that must be it's hard really hard it's like a really bittersweet but the fact that you care is showing that this is the shit happens dan i i understand that but
Starting point is 00:40:20 it's just you just it's it'll take a long time for me to get over to get over and i don't feel like i want the control over people anymore i don't really want that anymore i'm gonna go to my creative and are you gonna let someone else take over that role because it's a recruitment company someone that's just not yeah that's not got like the heart that i have because i think sam was always right like you this could happen and then this is not do you know me and ashley have this a lot of the time and she she's now says to me you're you're not dealing with that anymore because i'm similar to you i'm too soft i'm soft and there's nothing wrong with that no there isn't but in business you have to learn where to put yourself and i'm not cutthroat and
Starting point is 00:41:01 soft as fucking shit i'm not and ashley often has to say to me you're not dealing with that anymore because you're too soft and that's that yeah and that's hard isn't it yeah but this is why you two work because that's that you've got to have that you've still got to have the heart someone has to have it yeah of course but then you've got to have someone that's tough as well it's it worked that's why it works perfectly for you but i just feel like with the staff situation i don't want anything to do never do that give me the product give me the influencers give me the marketing give me the social that's fine don't give me the fucking people don't give me the bank account and not the bank account absolutely not i will not have a money gun right guys we're going to go into the
Starting point is 00:41:36 break but we are coming back with more more more because i there's just so much but we're gonna have a break for a minute guys we are back we've got more to discuss so we've got more to discuss and then we've got a bonus as well so i am trying to get everything we need from this woman in the time we've got so i'm trying my best right next thing i want to grill you on good one property property okay right i actually spoke to dan um a couple of weeks ago because you've got at the same time as all this going on with doll fucking hell i'm sweating you've had a break up it's been a lot my head's up my ass for you i know i'm feeling a bit like a bit overwhelmed myself just talking to you you've also been doing a little property thing yeah thank god i know by
Starting point is 00:42:34 the way no thank god thank god even though you nearly fucking got your property took off yeah yeah but do you know what more strings to your bow as well this is what i was going to say to you don't just focus on that one thing add more have your finger you need to back up in a few pies well you do i do i god i have my fingers in a lot of talented i've got a lot of pie i've got a lot of pies you've got to do this because if one thing fucks up then you've got the others you've got a bit of something else so here's another bit of advice from me and from dan if you're doing quite well you're earning invest quite well start and that doesn't mean you've even necessarily got your own business you might just be on a cracking wage on sales and you've
Starting point is 00:43:11 had some bloody good bonuses yeah don't piss it up the wall have a little bit that you enjoy because that's what life's for have a bit that you start thinking where else can i put this now that can be developing at the same time as something else so if shit hits the fan we've got a few options and i think do you have a financial advisor no no i don't i've got a very good accountant um but i don't have a financial advisor because i've been thinking about that what do you think i don't know because i'm not going to put my stuff in bitcoin and i'm not going to invest in this that and the other i like to see like my property i know you're going to make you're in control of it you're in control of it it's not the stock market i've never been
Starting point is 00:43:53 into that when i was with mason he was putting it into bitcoin this and bits and yeah because people do say for me right i don't want to see my money go down one week that i've put 10 grand in it's gone down to two it pissed me off yeah i only want something that grows right so property easy when did you start with this well when i got the barn so basically i was renting houses i'd i'd always earned good money you know from doing makeup weddings this that then to doll but i never invested it and i was renting cars on finance pissing my money up the wall i always say this mason's dad said you're a dickhead living in this house you haven't bought one so i bought a house bought a barn did minimal to it change the kitchen change the bathroom just modernized
Starting point is 00:44:31 it did our you know like our taste yeah and pinterest and i made 150 grand so when you've made 150 grand inside the house you don't have to sell the house to pull the money out which i didn't know you can obviously you can pull money out you can remortgage pull some money out so you did it so you did it up did it up it's valued it and then you realize i bought it for x now it's worth now obviously you spent x as well yeah so you but you won't spend 150 grand i didn't spend i spent 30 max right so all of a sudden there you've got 120 grand in the pot and then you can pull out 75 of your loan to value always so that so that would have given me probably about 100 grand i don't know easy maths whatever and then you can put i didn't pull that much out because
Starting point is 00:45:15 obviously your mortgage does go up when you remortgage but only buy a couple of hundred quid a month which is quite surprising so then i just pulled out another 70 which is you don't pay tax on because you're pulling it out okay yeah so then you go and then i went in and bought another so then at this point you've got the barn got the barn which is still earning money still gonna grow still still going up yeah yeah yeah you've taken some out of that yeah and you're now gonna go again buy another house so you buy another house how do you when you buy them now listen just to let you know when's this fucking i'm doing a course now because so i've got to film it because you're stressing me out with this i know anna anna canna who does socialista media
Starting point is 00:45:54 she's helping me with it but she's going to film me so it's more interactive so i'm going to do an ebook and of anna course so i'm talking to people because you're stressing me out because i want to get the fucking book i know but you know you can whatsapp me i know i know but it is the book is so interesting because i'm talking you know like a property book usually is literally like people like this number that number this number i'm talking about my personal journey which i think people will connect to a bit more I think you understand
Starting point is 00:46:18 it more because already now it's like a Jackie Collins but on property yeah I'm understanding it more better
Starting point is 00:46:23 will you be talking about shagging in there maybe maybe I would the roof went through just pop a couple of bits but it is personal as well when's this come
Starting point is 00:46:31 when we're working on it this week we're hoping to have it launched like in a few weeks time she's got to film me this is what the issue is right this is getting the filming time
Starting point is 00:46:39 and I've just had a facelift so I couldn't film right we need to talk about all that by the way we are going to we are so anyway
Starting point is 00:46:44 buy a new house so I'm going to teach you what i did wrong basically right so the things that i've done wrong because i bought bought the house in my own personal name the second one instead of putting in a limited company limited company even i know yeah i know but i didn't at the time and mason did tell me i didn't know this honestly there's so much if he would have told me to put it in a limited company i would have put it in in a personal if he would have told me to put it personal i would have put it in limited company so anyway so i've got this my property amazing and i've just got like a knack for the design
Starting point is 00:47:14 i've got a knack for project managing even though that some of the builders don't like to be told but you're so that's you basically telling people what to do you but they don't they don't want to work for a woman who's not in the trade i don't think some people so i've i have lost an electrician well i've lost a plasterer these times fuck off no i didn't tell them they told you to fuck off um it was a little bit of both with some of some of them you split up yeah there's a lot there's a lot do you know what i'll say this though and i don't care who i'm insulting i run a salon with 27 girls i'm gonna insult someone now but it's more hard work to lick ass and get the builders on the job than it is to get the girls into work because i think it's switched around this masculine
Starting point is 00:47:54 energy my darling yes definitely switch to the women yeah because i'm like are you okay today yeah can we get you in today hon do you know what do your job do you know what men do you like a sandwich to finish it three do you know what it is do you know what i think it is with trainees now right can't it's it's that not all they need we need them a lot of the time so you've got a you've got to lick their ass to get them to come and do something i'm licking ass i'm making sandwiches cups of tea this that and the other but it's ridiculous that you're giving them the money for a job babies but they're not all babies i've got it my joiner martin is sick i think always a joiner is always the guy on the job that will hold everyone else so if you're gonna lick anyone's ass
Starting point is 00:48:37 Lick the joiner's arse Lick the joiner's arse Let me make this clear Lick your joiner's arse No because he will I lick my builder's arse No don't actually Yeah no but
Starting point is 00:48:43 He's not into The husband guy He's not into bum licking Oh he's not No I would though Send him around mine for a night Oh fuck off
Starting point is 00:48:50 If I had to I would But he's not into it So it's the joiner we want The joiner is there Multiple times He's put into the studs up Then he's coming back To do the woodwork
Starting point is 00:48:58 So we know He can say right The electrician's not doing He will keep the job together The joiner is the main man Okay Remember that Remember that guys
Starting point is 00:49:07 so we've got we're going to learn a load from from so you can do an ebook and then so is it going to be readable and what i'm going to do right so what a readable one for people that don't want to see my face or that is quite possible by a lot of people and i'm doing one that i'm talking where yeah just talking like a course because i think one of the things is i get asked quite a bit about property um and i'm not i'm absolutely not i literally did one up got some money from it and i and then i kind of stopped because we're renovating our own but the long term planning certainly which i spoke about the other day to be doing something like that and i think a lot of people would like to do it and i think a lot of women would like to do it
Starting point is 00:49:43 well women have got women are earning so much money i've got friends that are makeup artists that do wedding on like 19 grand a month i've got people that are doing lip blush you know this they're on what on whack whack big money and then and i'm like where's your next house where's your next move where's you get your house get your property get it up it's hard to do though i like buying it when it's done no it's so easy it's like painting a face and the other thing is what you have to think about is the long the long game do you do you want to be hands-on forever or do you want to start making something that's going to make money for you while you're not there while you're asleep yeah while you're on holiday yeah and all these these pension pots and just
Starting point is 00:50:23 just having just having security yeah just it's and it's it's easy money it is i know it's like it's easy money i think you've got an eye for it at first yeah it's it's until you do one or two when you've done your first one you'll learn your mistakes well you don't need to learn mistakes but when you you know it's it's so easy and it's so enjoyable as well seeing the end result and just doing everything just out of interest obviously we're gonna and i will absolutely i even i had literally not even lying said to her i'm the only where's this fucking book because i need it james and i need it and she was like you don't need it i want it so genuinely i actually really do want that because i think i think someone putting it in and to go back and to be
Starting point is 00:51:02 able to think about what's that stage and talk about it in like yeah our language yeah and that's exactly how i wanted to do it so helpful yeah like i really really do so just a quick question if someone wants to start on the property ladder yeah but they they haven't perhaps made what you made in your first house or whatever how much do you reckon you need well you've got it you need 25% for a buy to let so 25% then you need your money to do it up as well, depends where you're buying doesn't it depends on the area, so you need enough
Starting point is 00:51:32 to put the deposit down and you need your reno costs but what you could do, if you wanted I guess it's not ideal but you could be doing the reno, you don't have to have that money there do you, you could be doing it as you go that's what I'm doing, when money comes in I'm doing bits at a time, I'm doing the bathroom now
Starting point is 00:51:48 you don't have to have your 20, 30 grand sat there ready to do it up, it can be a project until you sell it and then you've got your chunk for the next one then you've got your chunk for the next one it's quite addictive that isn't it it's so addictive my friend sam um sam hyde i don't know if you know sam boxer i've had him on the pod years ago he's one of my best friends he just started like that yeah and he's got a fucking empire how many okay i should know the answer to that but a lot a lot yeah because it's and there is there is ways about it as well where you don't have to use your own money as well
Starting point is 00:52:16 yeah so there's also there's loads of different ways about it so if you want to get into that girls if you're looking for a bit of something then it might be worth looking into property definitely right always have a few little houses under your belt i think that's important you know and i think one thing that's really important as well is not relying on a man if you can help it because they can you should have a what what was that what was the fund that george just said from height and hustle fuck you fund was that it yeah fuck you fund you should always have if you're in it i think together it makes things so worse like i see relationships that are breaking up they've got everything together so much more harder to move on you can't think you put up with a lot
Starting point is 00:53:00 more shit of course you do you've got it my one of my friends is as i said four years of hell divorcing a fella because everything they had was together and i just i i am this person i don't want to buy with anybody i know it's i won't i don't even in the future i don't think i'll ever i might i'll always have my own stuff and then maybe a little something with them but you'll always have your own i'll never go into a big i think i sometimes look at young girls and a lot of the time now the goal is to find you know a wealthy man and i'm not against that like sweet if it works for you and you can get a lovely life that's whatever but all i will say is if you from quite a young age meet somebody and you are financially dependent on them and then become more and more
Starting point is 00:53:41 financially dependent on them honestly what happens if it goes wrong look at lucia i can't say it with philip whatever i don't know if we can put names i am livid about this situation it's like i feel i know this girl but she was financially dependent she made a mistake there of course she did she fucked up yeah but you'd never gonna think you get get caught up in the romance and you think well i've got the watches the bags i've got the it's all right she's not got kids i know he's got too much money and it's like i can't stress we've not spoken much on the pod about that because i don't know it gives me goosebumps i don't know what and i'm frightened of him no you know he's blocked me and every account to do with me like not him personally
Starting point is 00:54:21 but the power he's got he's just took a social media down today her instagram's gone now it's so scary we've been we've not gone on patreon we do talk about it a bit but on the pod we haven't and it's selfish but you don't know what you don't know what you've got to protect yourself yeah so we haven't gone into mega detail on that right there are so many more things i want to talk to you about but we've just not got any fucking time have we got time for a dilemma or not no right so we're on bonus now we're on bonus guys right there's a few things that we're going to talk about on the bonus and this is something that i really want surgery you've had a fair whack done since we spoke last time my love my face while we're talking you've noticed that i'm
Starting point is 00:54:58 like no not really i'm used to ashley are you you've had a fair fucking show but not only that you've cleaned up your lifestyle so much and so yes you've had surgery but you have also changed your body composition yourself so we need to talk about that how you've done that what you'd recommend um also what else we've got a couple of dilemmas that we want to go through as well so we're going to take all that over to the bonus if you want to listen to the bonus patreon if you're a member of patreon you can listen and you can watch or you can join apple subs and you can just listen to it on there whichever works for you guys so let's move to the bonus we'll see you there here's the fun stuff see you soon guys bye
