And this is our second episode of our countdown to the best of 2024.
which is not really a countdown queue because these aren't in any particular order.
In case we haven't made that clear in the past.
Yeah.
You know, we don't want to be too structured here.
But overall, this is our favorite, our favorite tracks of the year.
Ten tracks each episode.
We're putting these out once a week, dude, in December.
That's just like old times, Traff.
Just like old times.
Last week you had our first 10 picks.
Now we're bringing 10 more
And I got some
I got some doozies dude
Dude I've been waiting
I mean I just been itching
To share these tunes man
Got some docy doze and some dozy tours
And some dozy tours
Well you get to kick us off on this one draft
So let's just jump right into it man
Let's just do rapid fire tunes
Yeah dude
We don't need to
Do it
We don't need to dilly dally on these docy dose
You know what we're about guys
Yeah
And cows
All right, well, Q, I'm going to kick us off with Little Fontaines, D.C.
Oh, dude, you know, I didn't listen to their new album, but I knew there was one out there.
Yeah, I was in August.
Big fan of their, I don't know if it was their date.
No, it wasn't their debut, but maybe a couple years back.
2020, a hero's death.
Oh, what a great album, dude.
Yeah.
And I'm pretty sure that showed up on your best, though, for 2020.
It's absolutely did, yeah.
These guys are consistently good.
consistently solid.
So they're an Irish post-punk band, I guess.
Do you want to call them that?
And they just write these just killer, killer tunes, man.
How many?
They wouldn't be on this list if they weren't killer, dude.
This is all killer, no filler, as some 41 would say.
Hey, fat one.
There you go.
That's not the inspiration for this podcast name, by the way.
If you're out there wondering, it's just a coincidence.
But I remember for the longest time, dude, like when our, when our podcast, like when we first
put this out, if you search no filler anywhere, it would always bring up the Sun 41 album.
Right.
But now, now Spotify knows what's what.
All right.
So anyway, so, yeah, Fontaine's DC.
They put out a record in August called Romance.
And we're just going to jump right in here.
Thank you.
All right.
Here we go.
The song is called Bug.
Change my name.
I promise you will.
inside because i want to get
didn't i say i wanted to yeah
i changed the fire yeah
28 years i come into him
the rain chasing down the gaudy again
all right so this is the first first of their new stuff that i've heard
and i'm i'm liking where they're going with their sound dude
it's not as like punk forward as a hero's death yeah there's just
There's just a timeless quality to this song, man.
Yeah, dude, it doesn't get much better than that.
Irish post-punk band Fontaine's DC, check them out.
Definitely go back and listen to their 2020 record.
Like we said, we had that featured on our best of 2020.
We both slept on the 2022 record, Skinty Fia, but I have no doubt that it's just a solid.
So yeah, Fontaine's DC.
That song was called Bug off of their record.
I'm going to pass it to yuki.
What's your first pick of the night?
All right, man, I've been, I've just been dying to play this song for you, dude.
I really hope you haven't listened to their new album.
Okay.
So, I don't know if you remember.
Back in 2022, I brought a few songs of theirs to No Filler.
They definitely showed up on our best of for that year.
Honeyglaze is the group.
I have not.
I've not, I've not listened to it.
I haven't
I haven't even
I probably haven't even
listened to that band's cue
since you brought
a song
for the last
I don't remember
what they sound like
I mean
God dude
I mean
I can't
it's hard
I just
I love
I love what
what these people are doing
dude
I love
their sound
what flavor are they
are they putting
out their cue
I don't
I don't even want
I don't even want to
bother with trying to label
let's just let the
let's let the music speak for itself
I will say this
I was just like so eager already to hear more stuff from them after their debut was released.
And I knew that they were going to bring the goods, you know, from like, I knew that they were going to only get better from there.
Yeah.
And the way that they've evolved in their sound is just like freaking perfect, dude.
I don't even, I don't even recognize the album or I'm looking at it right now.
So this has not been on my radar.
arm. So all the things that I like that I wish that they would they did no no no
mind let's just go out into it dude. Are you trying to say that like you they went exactly
where you wanted them to go? Is that what you're saying? That's right dude. Everything that I that
that I was like man you know if only they had a little bit more like a little bit more I don't know
give me a little more distortion you know and they freaking delivered dude. I mean dude that that
typically doesn't happen.
A lot of times, bands go in a direction you don't want them to go in, you know?
So that's got to cherish it, cherish it.
Just get ready, man.
All right, I'm bringing two tracks.
I have to, okay?
Okay.
Here we go.
So this is, again, Honey Glaze, this is the first song on the record.
This one's called Hyde.
Yeah, I can see why you were hesitant to throw labels on them, Q, because that's, it's funny
because, like, I was like, oh, man, I'm really curious how they're going to add some distortion to this,
because it's a very, like, you know, stripped down. Her vocals are, first of all.
She's one of my favorite vocalists.
Yeah, what a great vocalist.
Of this time, dude, yeah.
Yeah, man.
Yeah, I love her, man.
Very, very, like, the juxtaposition of the distortion and the rest of the song.
Like, that's great, man.
Yeah.
Because I mean, and as a as an opening track to our record, like, I feel like that's, that's a really great, like, this is, you know, this is what you're in for.
You know what I mean.
You're not going to know what to expect.
You really aren't, dude.
And that's the thing.
From track to track, you really don't know what you're going to get.
And on that note, dude, let me play.
Let's go halfway down about midway point of the record.
And here's what you're going to get.
Okay.
So I want to bring this up real quick.
And I'm hesitant to bring.
up the name of this band because I've learned now that they're a one trick pony, but I can't think
of another band that's done this recently, but we all know dry cleaner because. Yeah. Yeah, I brought
them a couple years back. Trick pony. It gets old very fast, but I really, really enjoyed that
trick, dude. When I first heard that record. Yes, me too. It's the, it's the, it's the talking.
Yeah, spoken word stuff. Yeah. So, okay, let me know.
Let me name off the roster real quick, dude.
They need to give a trio, huh?
It's a trio.
I gotta love trios, too.
Got a love.
So it's Anushka, Anuska Sokolow, Tim Curtis, and Yuri Sibruichi.
Sorry about that.
Come on now.
Yeah, so she does that spoken word kind of thing, but she does it just kind of like every now and then.
she kind of like she she folded into her regular singing where it's it you just don't expect it
it's not you know it's like oh she's doing that now but it's really cool the way she does it
anyways the reason to bring up dricklander is because this song is a straight up this the whole
this is the whole song she's doing spoken word but she freaking kills it dude i freaking love this song
you're not ready for this bro here we go i'm sitting down this song is called don't
asking you a question. Don't change the subject and act like it was never mentioned.
Don't raise your voice and interrupt me when I'm speaking.
I'm a person too, you know, I've got things to say. I've got fucking feelings.
Don't call me about yourself. Don't take advantage. You know how easily I'm...
I shouldn't even have to have this conversation. I've spent my whole life avoiding confrontation.
Don't raise your voice and interrupt me when I'm speaking.
I'm a person too, you know, I've got things to say. I've got...
Fuck yeah, dude.
this is take away the vocals and the lyrics this is like a math rock song which is great yeah yeah
a lot of that in this in this album yeah which is awesome but man who who treated who treated you poorly
honey glaze dude like somebody out there is listening to this and be like this is that the song is
about me everybody yeah yeah no there's no doubt that's about you okay oh yeah and you know you know
You know who you are.
Yeah.
But yeah, man, great.
Fantastic.
And I love the way that everything went quiet there for a second.
And the drummer almost went, almost went like brush, you know, like the brushes out or whatever.
Is that the right term here?
They brought brush drumsticks.
What are they called?
Yeah.
I remember you had those.
What were they called?
Cool rods.
Remember those?
They were called cool rods.
I still use cool rods, man.
I freaking love those.
Because that's how you you can draw them at home without waking up the neighbors, right?
Yeah.
Shout out to Dave Grohl for turning me on to those during the Nirvana unplugged MTV.
Oh, did you like, I noticed you was used to the screen because that was back before you could pause shit.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, man, just a solid three piece.
I mean, they're just like, actually.
You know, this sums it up perfectly.
Honeyglaze is the ungodly fusion of three humans into a clamoring super organ.
So I almost said orgasm.
Into a clamoring superorganism.
They're just like a, they're just one organism now, dude.
Yeah, yeah.
They're just so tight.
Yeah, I've been dying to play that song for you.
Awesome.
All right, dude.
Pass it back to you.
We're going to pull the 180?
Yeah, we can.
we can pull a 180 from that.
We can pull it 180.
All right.
So let's play some Magdalena Bay.
You may remember this, this is a duo from a couple years back, probably.
They may have shown up on my best of of that year.
Magdalena Bay, Best of 2021, Part 2.
So here they are again, dude.
So they put out a record back in August.
There's another August release called Imaginaldisk.
And they're gaining popularity.
Like if you're plugged into pop music, you probably know who these people are.
This duo, it's, let me name the two.
They just recently appeared on one of the late night shows, Q.
I don't remember which one it was.
They're kind of like a synth pop, but they do these really interesting
they fuse a lot of different
sounds into their pop music.
So it's like a little bit of disco.
It's a little bit of like Steely Dan.
You know, it's a little bit of like this and that, you know?
Micah Tenenbaum.
Great last name, dude.
One of my favorites.
And Matthew Lewin.
So yeah, let's just step right, thank you.
This is going to be a true 180.
Our first of the evening.
Probably not the last.
So here we go.
This song is called Cry for Me.
And we're going to have to split into two clips, cue,
because there are two very distinct parts on this song.
So here we go.
So again, Magdalena Bay, this song is called Cry for Me.
What do you thought so far?
That is straight up.
Dancing Queen, Abba.
Yeah, that's what's interesting about their music, dude.
And I remember this from their first record,
mercurial world
there's just like all these like
touchdowns of like pop music
throughout the decades that you
that you hear and you're like oh that sounds like this
or this sounds like that like it's just like
it's not like a ripoff in a way no like
they do it seamlessly like with
they blend all these different like
eras of of pop together
and they just do these really
really interesting things like you just
you hear all this stuff going on in the background
I don't know, it's just, it's, it's, it's, it's like you, uh, you, you, you, you're asked
an AI to like, just blend every version of like pop over the last like 50 years into,
into a single sound, you know what I mean?
So it's just really, really interesting.
Uh, but yeah, like I said, Q, I was part one, because it's about to get different.
So here you go.
Let's pick it back up.
Again, this is Magdalena Bay.
The song is called Cry for Me.
here's part two.
Yeah, dude, they're really like honing in on that 80s pop sound, getting like some Madonna vibes.
Yeah, that's exactly.
Thank you, dude.
That's exactly what I heard.
But yeah, I mean, they don't bring back that cry for me line again, which I think is interesting
because like that's such a hook, you know?
And that's the name of that goddamn song.
So like the song truly changes almost to an entirely different song.
and like you're waiting for them to bring it back to that chorus.
She kind of changed her voice a little bit too.
Like it was a little bit more raspy.
That's some sand.
She's got.
She,
yeah,
they're just like,
they're like chameleons,
dude.
They can adapt and change their sound to match just about any.
I mean,
you heard,
you know,
they kind of switched like a piano.
There's a piano in the background,
which is why I kind of think of like Steely Dan or even like muse or something like that.
Like from,
from absolution like muse,
you know,
kind of like the operatic rock type stuff.
Right.
Everything you could do.
If you listen to their records,
I think you can find literally just about every style of genre in their music.
And that's what makes them so interesting.
And they kind of present themselves as like these like, you know,
space alien kind of stuff.
You know what I mean?
Like they're like they're from another planet or something like that.
So it kind of all fits in with their vibe, you know.
But yeah.
if you want just a solid pop record,
imaginaldisc.
It's fantastic.
Cue it up.
All right,
I imagine that we're going to do
another 180.
Absolutely, dude.
And this is one of the,
I'd say,
funnest albums that I've heard
in a while.
I'd never heard this band before.
Being Dead.
Have you heard of them?
I have not.
Albums called Eels.
It's just a
freaking blast, dude. Let me just read this one line from Pitchfork. With deceptively low-fi hooks
and a playfully oblique approach, the Austin Rock duo crafts songs that are goofy, serious, innocent,
and knowing all at once. A topsy-turvy take on rock and roll, Jeff. It's absurd, it's humorous,
and it's touching. Topsy-turvy? Tepsy-turvy, Jeff. Like, so here's what I think of when I think
of topsy-turvy rock cue.
I think of man man.
Oh, dude, on the nose, as far as topsy-turvy, yes.
And I would, yeah.
I mean, that sounds like a song name from a man-man like topsy-turvy, doesn't it?
All right, so I picked a song that I think is both, well, you know, it's on the nose for the name of the song is called firefighters.
It's just straight up about firefighters, dude, about fight and fires.
Okay.
here we go talk about to tamsie terry uh dude yeah this is great here we go
that was a blasts man that's just that's just that's just that's just good times i know i didn't
know when to fade it out because it changes up so much it's just and great harmonize great great great
great that's just fun man i love it i mean you can't it's just that's just that's just a good time you know
Exactly.
Yeah, dude, this whole album is like that, man.
That would be such a great show to see.
Yeah.
That's just.
Yeah.
I mean, they're in Austin, our trio, do.
So maybe they're from Austin.
Yeah, they're from Austin.
I mean, I was show in Austin, Traff.
I was just in Austin.
Well, they're going to be back in Austin December 14th, Triff.
Yeah, dude, I just love the line pulling, aiming, squeezing, and everything just stops and they go,
move.
Because that's like, that is exactly what's going.
on in a firefighter's head like all right I'm pulling the hose I'm aiming I'm squeezing
and I better fucking move and get it the fuck out of the way because this fire is
blazing yeah that's awesome yeah that's that's yeah solid album all the way through
it's it's a blast dude I mean it's it's this the the first song is is called Godzilla
Rises it's literally a love song to Godzilla like talking about all the like
handles, the creature's spying
handles for holding. Like this,
they're in love with Godzilla, the first track of the album.
It's a love song to Godzilla.
That's awesome. So yeah, man, being dead,
eels is the album. Pass it back to you, Triff.
Probably another one, Andy, I think that's safe to say.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay, so this band has gotten a lot of buzz
over the last
few years
and they
I'm shocked
but they have not shown up on
on no filler before
but they put out a single
in 2020
called Flutter
followed by a
EP in 2021 called
Pushing Daisies
and they finally put out
their first
full-length record
this band is called
Julie
oh dude
I'm bringing
oh man
you've been
Be me to it, brother.
Oh, this song is, this album is so great, man.
I was going to have them queued up for my next song.
Really?
Okay.
I'm wondering if it's going to be the same track.
Yeah, dude, this is a great, solid album.
Now we've got to have a combo here, Q.
Because we've also determined that we both have an M.J. Linderman pick.
Mm-hmm.
So do we just play both of our picks?
I think that's what you should do.
I think we should play both of our picks.
I think so.
I think that's fair.
that mean that we bring we both bring additional tracks okay I'm just saying if there's ever that way
we're actually bringing 40 artists you know what I mean so if we have any if we have any duplicate
artists we can bring because I you know we've got enough I got enough picks me too so
so but yeah we'll we'll figure out when to when to play those that means maybe next week we'll
we'll each bring six songs how about that I'm just curious depending on
on how many crossovers we have, this might get,
we have to do a whole other episode.
Well, here's the deal, though, Trave.
What if we're both bringing the same song from this Julie record?
I hadn't thought about that.
I hadn't thought about that.
I had another pick lined up.
So I have more than one pick off of this record,
but I landed on Claiborne Practice.
Well, I'm going with another one, dude, so let's do it.
Okay. All right.
So my anti-aircraft friend is the album.
Yeah.
Just some solid, like,
What would you?
Hardcore.
They're a hardcore band.
I would maybe put them in like the in the in the in the in the in the in the in the in the in the in the in the game game.
Maybe.
Okay.
Of shoe gaze.
But there's definitely grunge alternative rock.
You know what I mean?
They're in that like just giant camp of bands playing, uh, you know,
channeling the 90s, you know, in their sound.
Yeah.
I really like what what they do with it, man.
They're awesome.
They're great.
Yeah.
Probably another.
trio. This is the Europe trios, dude. It's another trio. All right. And they're just, they're just, they're just, they're just, they're just, dude. They're babes, dude. They're babes. What is, what is happening in rock today and what Gen Z is bringing back to the table, man. I'm so poised. You know why? Because we're fucking old enough finally to where kids making music these days are making music inspired by the bands that their parents are playing for them when they were growing up. And speaking of, I got a great.
example of that for my next pick.
Okay.
Well, why don't we bring, why don't you bring Clairporn?
We could also just bring your, your Julie pick could be whenever you want.
We don't have to, I was thinking we could play back to back.
Like I could play my, let's do back to back.
Yeah, let's let's, yeah, exactly.
All right.
All right.
All right.
All right.
This is, you know, this doesn't act.
Surprisingly doesn't happen very often that we pick the same tracks or same
artist.
All right.
So clearly this is, uh, I got the, the, the no filler stamp of approval.
if both of us picked songs from this record.
So here we go.
Again, this is Julie off of their new record,
my anti-aircraft friend,
and this song is called Claiborne Practice.
Yeah, if you didn't have this cranked up,
you may have missed that McLeod guitar, man.
It was there.
That's what I'm saying, dude.
They sneak it in.
Straight up, shoe gaze.
Yeah, that's great, dude.
What I love about him is,
the instrumental, like the way they kind of stop on a dime,
a lot of times and kind of switch it up.
Yeah, they're very good,
solid three piece, man.
Just, I mean, they're,
you can't throw a stone without hitting a solid three piece band these days, man.
Can't do it.
There's no much stones left.
All right.
So what's your pick from this record, Q?
Hey, let's just jump right in right, man.
Track six, here we go.
This one's more of a kind of a back and forth, you know,
female male singer kind of thing, which I love, if it's done, right?
Here we go.
Track six, this is thread.
stitch. Yeah, this might be a top five record for me for this year. If I had to pick five,
I think this might be up there, too. Because yeah, the whole thing is solid. There's a very good
mix of songs, too. Like, it's not all the same, but it's consistent. Like, they've figured
out their sound, you know what I mean? But like they, like you said, this is like a cool, like back
and forth female male sort of handoff which seems to be kind of a trend these days too i don't know
if you remember the band i brought i brought uh maybe earlier this year i think actually actually they
were they were on my best stuff from last year um it's another another three piece that does just that
and i can't remember their name unfortunately well say yeah fake fruit is a pan that i brought uh on the first
our first best of for this year
it's another trio
they do it
they do it solidly
brother
don't worry about it
uh no
no hair god
no I got it got to bar Italia
that's what I was thinking of
bar Italia
yeah yeah yeah yeah man
yeah
I'm all about it dude
yeah and what
what I loved about
this album and Julie
is that like
it's been a while
since I've gotten into
this kind of music
and they brought me back into it
dude full swing
yeah yeah yeah yeah
yeah dude awesome awesome record
go check it out
uh my anti-aircraft friend
by Julie.
All right, Q, what's your next track?
Because we're going to loop, you know,
we're going to pair those together as a single pick.
So you get another track today, Q.
And then whenever you bring your M.J. Linderman song,
I'll play mine and I'll have another pick that day,
if that makes sense.
It makes perfect sense, try.
All right.
What do you got?
this is just I don't know anything about this band they've been around since 2019 but these guys
are bringing back the early 2000s I'm talking early 2000s emo sound um email pop I'm here
a man they they they do it really well um and again I think we've we've talked about this
quite a lot recently like maybe the last couple years well
it's been even more than a couple years now, but man, like, like we, I just mentioned it.
Ginzy, I'm assuming these guys are jinsey.
They look young.
Maybe they're not.
But they're bringing back the early 2000 sound, man, and they're doing it in a really awesome way.
They're bringing back the 90s, too, as we've said over and over again.
So just, you know, it's a good time to be our demographic queue because, like, we've had to wait a couple decades for this.
kind of music to come back again in a good way.
Yeah, with like new artists bringing in back.
Exactly.
So now here we go, man, we're back.
So this is Origami Angel.
The album is called Feeling Not Found.
This one's just a doozy, man.
I'm just going to let us speak for itself.
Here we go.
This song is called Where Blue Light Blooms.
What year is it, dude?
I was going to say that, man.
I feel like I'm back in high school.
Yeah, like I just transport.
instantly back to 2004.
Yeah.
Love it, man.
Yeah, I mean, like, I've got my dopey haircut.
I'm driving around in our black Chevy tracker.
I just walked out a CD addict.
Yeah, man.
Probably, probably to pick up this CD?
Yeah.
That's what I'm saying.
Man, that's great, dude.
And, like, I love that little guitar ditty right there.
I was, you know, just bring in a little, tiny little guitar solo there.
Yeah, because, I mean, you know, there's.
There's, I don't want to say this game, but I mean, I feel like there's a lot of crossover between
Math Rock and Emo in terms of like the guitar sound.
And like I was getting Mathrock vibes.
And then he started singing and it's like, straight up Emo, dude.
That very particular era of Emo.
So third wave, I guess.
Third wave Emo.
Yeah, man.
Yeah, that was great, man.
But yeah, like I said, you know, I think that's going to be great for our generation, for different
reasons than why it might be great for for gen Z or whatever the next one is,
Gen Alpha, you know, who might be.
They're taking it and they're, they're like reclaiming it, you know?
Yeah, it's interesting.
Awesome.
Yeah, because I feel like, I feel like that sound went away, dude.
Like that is very dated.
To me, it's so dated, right?
Well, we say it went away, but I'm sure there's lots of bands.
I bet.
They're still kicking it.
Yeah, and I've been doing it the whole time.
But like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
to me that just is so dated but like we're back dude you know same with same with the grunge sound of
course to me grunge is fucking timeless but um yeah grunge never sounds outdated to me but that's just
because i'm such a huge fan of that era but um anyway yeah awesome and and of course dude i've got
another 180 and this is tough but i'm gonna do it i'm gonna play the single off this record
because because it's so damn catchy but this record caught me off card dude
Have you ever heard of an artist that goes by the name Claro?
I have not.
She's awesome.
Amazing singer-songwriter.
Her music kind of reminds me of, I'm going to say Kings of Convenience, dude,
but in a different way, in a different way than you might be thinking.
But this record in particular has a lot of, it's funny, I'm about, I didn't even mean to do this,
but I was about to say it has a lot of charm to it.
And that's the name of the record.
It's called charm.
Yeah, it's just, there's something about it, man.
She's a fantastic songwriter.
And I had three tracks I was going between,
and we'll be here all night if we keep playing two tracks each.
So we're going to play her single because it's just so damn catchy.
And here we go, dude.
I'm just going to let this music speak for itself.
So again, this is artist Clero.
of her record
Charm
came out on our fucking birthday, dude.
Came out July 12.
So here you go.
This song is called
Sexy to Someone.
It's all I really want.
Sometimes sexy is soon.
Can you just get that straight to the vein, dude?
Give me that Ivy drip, sir.
Love it.
It's just such a
such a catchy song.
And the reason I said Kings of Convenience, she has a lot of kind of folk pop kind of stuff.
You know, think about I'd rather dance with you, right?
I mean, Keys of Convenience has some like dancey poppy kind of songs.
You know, I'm going to check the old Instagram and see if we have any listeners who chimed in.
Probably not.
So I'll play another Clero song to close us out if we did not get a pick sent to us to us.
because there's another song I want.
I want you to hear the other side of Clero.
Cue.
But yeah, cue that album up.
It's great from start to finish.
Incredible songwriter.
Again, her name is Clero.
That song was called Sexy to Someone.
Off of her record, Charm.
All right, dude.
What you got for us?
This is my last one, huh?
For the night.
Is it?
Dude.
I think so.
We're just having a blast, dude, because I...
I think so, yeah.
Okay.
Yeah, I think you're right.
Yep.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right, dude.
I was going to play.
Yeah, because, you know, I got this extra one now because I played Julie earlier.
That's true.
All right.
So, Mokot, Doma.
The name sounds familiar.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
They had a song that just kind of blew up.
Yeah, the Russian, thanks to, I think, TikTok from an album of theirs that's all in, I don't know,
script that I can't read from 2018.
I hesitant to even bring that up.
Yeah, if the name sounds familiar, it's probably because you heard one of their songs on a TikTok short or whatever you call them on TikTok.
I don't freaking know.
They came back this year.
Shit, it's been a while since.
Okay, it's been four years since their last album.
This album's called Balea Palosa and, uh, pooh, man.
I'm ready, dude, because I remember, uh, yeah, that song that was everywhere.
Well, let's play it.
Let's play just like, let's play 30 seconds.
You know what's funny, dude?
The way I heard this song was actually on an Instagram video of somebody put this as a backing track to Wednesday from the old Adams family TV show doing the little Wednesday dance.
And that's what I'm here it is.
I'm sorry, I can't.
I don't know how to say it.
Here we go.
I don't know how to pronounce this.
It's all in Russian script or whatever.
Yeah.
Yeah, this might sound familiar too.
I mean, just awesome, dude.
And you know what?
I hate that like getting quote unquote TikTok famous or whatever recognized through TikTok
doesn't cheapen anything about the song or the artist.
Of course not.
But, you know, very likely that you've heard that song as a backing, the backing music
and just a random ass TikTok short, you know.
Yeah.
So they came back with another album this year.
Balea Pelosi.
it was very hard to pick a song, dude.
But I'm going with one that's true to this kind of like moody, dark, like synth new wave stuff that they do really well, man.
So here we go.
This is, oh, you know what, this is the, what's it called?
When it's the name of the song, the album?
Oh, the title track.
Yeah, this is the title track.
Here we go.
This is Balea Pelosa.
And we may have to split this one up in a couple, a couple of,
Here we go.
I'm getting Depeche Mode and Morrissey, big time.
Yeah, dude.
New Wave.
They do it.
Big time.
Big time.
Really?
Kind of like goth.
New Wave.
Yes.
Very much so.
Synth wave, scent dark.
Let me just throw all of the...
Just throw them all out there, dude.
While I got it.
Yeah.
And I kind of cut it short because I want to fade it back in.
Okay.
Because they do this really cool outro.
What do we got all night?
We got all night, dude.
So here we go.
There's a lot of interesting things going on in indie rock right now, dude.
It's a good time to be listening to this stuff.
And like, it's interesting because, like, you know, we always talk about how it's been like probably, you know, it seems like it's been a long time since rock music made the mainstream, right?
could we always like to talk about how
how bizarre it was on
you know total request live
back in the day to hear like
you know corn
and like and then see like
Sun 41 and Jimmy World
and then see like in sync and like
you know
Missy Elliott or something like that like it was just
such an interesting like hodgepodge
of music that all made it to the mainstream
all made it to the airwaves the radio
you know radio playing all that stuff
and then like you know
know, even the strokes made it pretty big, had music videos and stuff back of the day and had
mainstream success, but like it's been a long time since like rock music. This kind of like
indie rock type stuff made it to mainstream. But I feel like, I feel like lately there's been a
really good solid batch of like, of excellent, excellent indie rock out there. That you have to,
you have to look, you have to seek it out to find it, you know what I mean?
you're not going to hear it on the airwaves.
And MTV, I don't even know if they even play music videos anymore, dude.
I couldn't tell you.
I'd freaking doubt it, dude.
Yeah, it's all reality shows.
But man, there's just so many great, I feel like, I feel like for fans of indie rock,
you can hear, you can hear songs that sound like any, any style you want right now.
Everybody's making everything.
Totally.
Because that's like 80s new wave, big time.
Straight out.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No doubt about it on that one.
Yeah.
And then, yeah, they've perfected it, dude.
they're so good at it.
All right, Chavve, last pick for you tonight.
What's you got?
All right, here's another record that threw me for a loop, dude.
And another band that's kind of mixing up a bunch of sounds, man.
These guys are really interesting.
So this group is called Silverbacks.
Have you heard of them, Q?
Yeah, I think so.
A bunch of gorillas, huh?
Not a three-piece, though.
So, hmm.
Hmm.
Oh, darn.
I feel like we almost had a episode full of nothing buts.
Almost.
All right, I'm just going to let this speak for itself.
So they put out a brand new record not that long ago.
October 18th is when this came out.
This record is called Easy Being a Winner.
This song is called Look at All You've Done.
Great time to be a music fan.
That's what I'm saying, dude.
So much great music coming out these days.
I mean, look at all we've done.
Thank you tonight.
But yeah, there's a little, like with that song, you hear that, you know, what is interesting about them is they kind of, they sprinkle in a little bit of, a little bit of country into their.
I heard it.
I was like, is that really, did I just hear a little twing?
Yeah.
Her little twing there.
Which is interesting.
But yeah, this whole record has a lot of variety to it.
but it's all got that kind of playful kind of vibe to it.
Interesting harmonies.
Interesting guitar work.
And, you know, this is obscure, man.
They're not getting much in the way of Spotify plays,
because that's all that counts, Q.
But no, it's always a good indicator of, like,
how popular something is, right, to see how many plays it got.
Because to just give you an example,
my last pick, that record, Clare, by Clero,
that sexy to someone's song has 72 million plays right that song i just played from silverbacks
has 6,000 okay so like that's quite the spread in terms of like popularity right yeah and they're
it's funny they're on spotify their little bio it says uh LP number three easy being a winner is
out now to celebrate we're doing a run of shows in October and
November in Ireland and the UK.
They're not going around the world, dude.
They're not doing, they're just, they're doing a couple months worth of shows to celebrate
their third album release.
That's, that's a small potatoes band right there.
Yeah.
Yeah, but I think, I think sexy to someone is making it on like, you know, big
publications, best of 24, 24 lists, right?
Yeah.
So, like, they're, a lot more successful.
But, I mean, that's the, again, that's the beauty of indie rock, dude.
You know, you've got to look far and wide to find the great tunes, but they're all out there.
And, dude, what a great, what an eclectic mix that we brought tonight, man.
Proud of us.
For sure.
We did.
We did it.
So we'll come back at you next week with another 10, possibly 11, depending on if we bring any of the same tracks.
Because I know for sure we have at least one more crossover artist with M.J. Linderman.
I did sneak a peek at the song that you're bringing, and it's not the one I'm, I was.
was going to bring so we'll get to play two off of mj linderman's album manning firework did
killer such an awesome album man killer record man that guy's like the new indie darling he's yeah
you want to talk about a talented singer-songwriter man those yeah his lyrics are amazing
yeah yeah awesome awesome and yeah a little bit of twang dude a little bit of country in him
so it's interesting to hear to hear country music characteristics being
kind of sprinkled into indie music, you know, or sprinkled into rock music, I should say.
Because obviously there's indie country music, right?
That's the problem with the term indie music.
I always, when I hear indie, I think indie rock, but that's obviously, it's just,
that's a more widespread term, obviously.
But anyway, all right, well, let's just see, dude.
And pull up Instagram.
We asked for, we asked for picks.
Let's see if we got them.
And nope, nothing.
So if you're listening, that's understandable.

Yeah.
I came out this year.

And we know you're out there and we know you have an Instagram.
What?
You want us to be on TikTok?
We're not going to do it.
So dust off your Instagram password because you probably don't log on to that anymore.
Actually, no, we didn't try TikTok, but we were on Twitter for a while.
We were on Twitter and then Twitter happened.
You know what I mean?
actually no we we ditched yeah we ditched that years before it became x but i'm just trying to make an excuse
all right well with that being said i do have one pick one more pick for us q from from that clear
a record to bring us home for our outro track all right um and this will give you a good sense of the
of the wide range uh that this record has and how talented she is um i don't know if she actually
actually has, like if that's just the name that she goes by.
Yeah, she just goes by Clara.
So, an American indie luminary cue.
Her soft rock intimations interwoven with tendrils of 70's soul and lush R&B.
There you go.
There it is.
Probably should have said that when I first talked about her.
A bio there, but whatever.
All right.
