Starting point is 00:00:00 And welcome to no filler. And I'm Quentin. We're not going to give you the intro. You guys know it by now. But this is it, dude. This is the last episode. Well, no, it's not. It's the first episode of 2026, dude.
Starting point is 00:00:27 This is the first episode of 2026. But the, this is. part two of our best of part four could that be any more confusing right that's right it's it's it's best of part four this is the fourth edition of our best of and this is part two of that fourth so technically our fifth best of episode if you want to if you want to count the episodes yeah we brought our buddy Mitch along with us for this the last of our series and we let him bring six of his favorite songs because he had to narrow down literally to just six songs for all of the songs of 2025 that he listened to and loved. Now, that's hard, dude, because we had to narrow down
Starting point is 00:01:09 to what, 20? Yeah, that's a little more doable, but yeah. Yeah, anyways, so we got our buddy Mitch on this one, and anytime we get together, you know, there's goofabouts a plenty. And the episode ran really long, so we split into two parts. to give you guys a break from, you know, our voices. So you didn't have to listen to us for two hours straight. That's right. So here it is. Our last nine, six.
Starting point is 00:01:37 No, hang on now. 16. Nine. Seven. This is our last seven. This is our final seven, the lucky seven. Right? How do you do math, dude?
Starting point is 00:01:47 You just add it up, you know. Yeah. What you do is you ask an AI to answer for you. That's what all the kids are doing these days. 16. Yeah. This is our last seven picks. It's our last seven picks for 2025.
Starting point is 00:02:01 And yeah, we're going to be coming at you again soon with our first what you heard of 26, which as we joked about on the last episode will likely just be more songs for 2025 that we discovered in between recordings of all the best of us because, you know, it's bound to happen. We always, yeah, we're always listening to any music and that means listening to music that we somehow missed last year. But yeah, so look forward to that. It'll be more of the same format if you're new to the show.
Starting point is 00:02:32 And then we'll just keep going through 2026. We'll get our first deep dive in there eventually. Maybe we start off with a deep dive. Do you want to do that? Yes, dude. Because that's what we should do. Yeah, we should do a deep dive first since we've essentially at the What You Heard format now for like a month straight.
Starting point is 00:02:48 So yeah, we don't know what we're going to do yet. But, you know, the deep dive is kind of kind of how it sounds. You know, we pick an album, or an artist sometimes, and dive deep, as they as and am as you like to say. That's right. And play the songs on the record that weren't singles. That's the whole betwixt the singles. Betwixt them, yeah. Does that make sense?
Starting point is 00:03:08 That's the whole kitten caboodle. Don't even put that in. That's the name of the game with the show. That's the whole premise of the show. So that's it. Thanks for listening, as always. Thank you for all the support. If you tune in, we can and week out,
Starting point is 00:03:27 biweekly and biweekly out. I don't know how to say it. But yeah, we appreciate it. Thanks for listening, as always. Follow us on Instagram if you are. Well, reach out to us. Hang on a second. This is an intro.
Starting point is 00:03:41 This is an intro, not an outro. All right. Well, here we go. We're going to pick right back up where we left off. And here's our next picks for 2025. Back to you, Mitch. Okay, so because I'm spoiled, can't spell spoil without an M, this is my fifth, but I do have a six, but this is my fifth. Is it?
Starting point is 00:04:11 Yeah, this is my fifth one. And then the sixth one I'm going to close with is that OC's track. Well, I still have a second. I still got two. Mitch, this is only your fourth, dude. Okay, okay. Then, uh, yeah, you thought you were almost done. The song is called Evelyn Says, and it's by a band called Snowman.
Starting point is 00:04:28 They're spelled in all caps from a record called A Kick to the Face. Vibes that you'll just, you'll dig, block party vibes, a band called Diary Planet that I really like, a car seat headrest vibes. Did you say Phantom Planet? No, Diarrhea Planet, but Phantom Planet does get a shout out. It's bad diarrhea Planet. I love that y'all laughed at that. Was I not clear the first time?
Starting point is 00:04:50 Did I? Did I study? I said diarrhea Planet. Oh, bro. Travis, you got to check them out. They're a goofy band out of Nashville. They better be goofy with a name like that. They have four guitar players, bro. They have a song called Ghost with a Boner.
Starting point is 00:05:03 I'll just put it like that. They're fucking great. This band is much more serious, but they also, they're like aloof in a lot of songs on the record. And they're not afraid to let like a solo happen. And this song is fucking awesome. The lyrics are real sad. Read them along. You might have to read through Spotify because I was trying to find them online.
Starting point is 00:05:21 I couldn't find them necessarily, like on Genius or A to Z. I mean, these guys are pretty, they seem pretty obscure, dude, which is great. Yeah, they're kind of hard. They're out of New York, but the fucking record is a banger, dude. It's a kick to the face. There's so many songs that I had that I wanted to share, but this one is just beautiful. So this is the last, this is a closing one. So it's really, even if you've listened to the whole record, then this one closes to is even that much more like, it's like triumphant, sad.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Sweet, let's do it. All right, here we go. Evelyn says by Ghost Boner. Oh, wait, what? This is a band's called Snowman in all castes. I feel like you have to yell at Snowman. All right, here we go. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Thank you. So, you know, and I'm going to be able to be. Now that everyone's new. Crawling out of bed. Love is a star in the rest of love that is up and went up
Starting point is 00:08:09 a man The references are paranoid Yeah Yeah Yeah And I'm I'm in my It's like
Starting point is 00:08:50 I die of again Wake up for once a quarter to turns on that a while the wife is over again. You know what? I was getting some, like, as far as lyrics go, Adam's song vibes, Lincoln 82. Oh, bro. It went from, like, past to future tense at the end there. Interesting, interesting.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Yeah, dude, good pickup, dude. Excellent pickup. And what a good fucking song, bro. You can't deny how formative those guys are. I mean, that fucking song right there, dude. I can't get enough of that sound, dude. Same. Because I heard that one, too.
Starting point is 00:09:53 It was like, how's the best song I heard all year for me? And that record is my favorite record of the year from front to bat. Yeah, that was, what a great buildup, dude. And just like fucking your forward. Yeah, very climactic sounding. Yeah, very sherry, bro. Definitely. Okay, so where are you going to take it from there?
Starting point is 00:10:09 That was one of my aces. I still have two more to play. Trab, what do you got? Well, because of that song, I'm pulling an audible here. This is a, it's adjacent, I think. As a band, I've been anticipated, like, this is a, a hugely anticipated record for me because I really liked their last record. So this man is called Cloak Room.
Starting point is 00:10:34 You guys are probably familiar with that. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah, their record dissolution wave in 2022. It's funny. I could have sworn that came out last year, man. No, sir. I thought that was our 22. That's crazy, you mean.
Starting point is 00:10:45 Where is the time go? Out the fucking window, bro. Is where time goes. I can't believe it's December already, dude. It's crazy. We're going to be saying 2030 soon enough. Like we're goddamn future boys or something. Get out of here.
Starting point is 00:10:57 I know, man. My year is 2030. I still do not have health insurance. Well, you guys had a full-on conversation with my son two hours ago. I know. He's conversing like a fucking pro. Yeah. Yeah, he's sharp.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Singing fucking peaches like a, like he is bellow, balloon. Like he's Chris Ballou. Yeah. That's fucking awesome. All right. So anyway, they put out a new record this year, long story short. It's called Last Leg. of the Human Table, which is a great name for a record.
Starting point is 00:11:29 So this song is called Story of the Egg. Here we go. I don't know It's bright as true I never heard of everything I can't speak but they're still can't do
Starting point is 00:12:32 me To this little stream of me Never learn never think I'm passionate I'm so damn national
Starting point is 00:12:49 I'm something that I'll dream Hold the city See Tell me that I'll dream You know, I'm going to be able to be. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:14:14 They're all over the place, too, man, with their sound. Yeah. I mean, Disillusion Wave is... Nothing like that. Yeah. But, I mean, that's... But to your point, though, like, even Disillusion Wave is, like, kind of... jumping all over the place but they're very yeah i mean just in that song alone there's like so many
Starting point is 00:14:30 transitions and like really interesting things that are happening yes bro i mean as much as that was familiar was very unfamiliar to me yeah i mean i love how long that that that little talk about not afraid of letting a solo happen yeah we're just letting some fucking guitar solos just breathe i love that just a little just a little jam session there in the middle of the song yeah really cool and these lyrics are great man how much more can the cosmos take Something is off kilter with this table leg. Put that bird back into an egg. It's like wrap it up, man.
Starting point is 00:15:01 We're fucking done here, dude. That's great. Our last leg, yeah, the name of their record is last leg of the human table. There was definitely, and that song in particular, driving kind of frantic pace towards the end. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Uncomfortable, certainly not uncomfortable. Really, really cool. Almost like he could hear it in a club in the 80s, bro. Awesome. Yeah. Well, yeah, the opening riff was very 80s for sure. like Quentin Shatt, I think he said a new wave, right? Or a new wave.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Yeah. But then it kind of went to like a surfy guitar vibe. Yeah. Just all of the place. But yeah. Fantastic. Really cool. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:32 I love those guys. Disillusion wave was fantastic record. Go listen to that one if you haven't heard it yet. Yeah, I will definitely work my way backwards from all these. Yeah, man. All right. I think we, you've got two more. I've got one more, which means Mitchell still has two more.
Starting point is 00:15:46 So where are we at? We're actually making not too bad time. That's pretty good. Pretty good clip here. You could probably split this into two, like a two-parter. All right. This is the one I've been most excited to share with you guys. I think I know what it is. Mitch, are you a fan of Tyco? Yeah. I am because of y'all. Yeah, yeah. Awesome. You'd call it IDM, I suppose. Yeah. Hipptogic. A little hypogicot. Electronica is what I put it under in my head. Electronica. Interpol. Your thoughts on Interpol? Oh, fuck it. I didn't get the answer, Matt. Mitch. But Scott Hansen, aka Taiko, collaborated with Paul Banks, aka the the lead singer of Interpol.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Dope. Dope. Yes, dude. So I'm going to share the album cover for this one because you've got to look at it while you're listening to it. That's a cool collab. So Tyco and the frontman from Interpol, that's awesome. Yeah. The song is called Boundary Writer.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Now listen to this. And this makes so much sense after hearing this. So Scott Hanson says, Interpol has long been one of my biggest influences. Let that sink in, Trave. Think about it, dude. Think about the Tyco guitar riffs that you hear. and Tyco songs, and it's straight up Interpol. It is very much Interpol.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Makes sense? So he says, I jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with Paul on a song. Boundary Writer started life as an atmospheric instrumental song titled Forge that I had been working on here and there for a couple of years. When I met Paul and started thinking about what songs might connect with his voice, this song immediately came to mind. I sent him a demo along with the prompt Boundary Writer. I had been reading about the lives of boundary riders during the 30s, people who patrolled and maintained fences in the vast expanse of the Western Australian Outpack.
Starting point is 00:17:33 There is something about this solitary experience that I felt resonated with the song and the deep sense of isolation in Paul's lyrics brought this into focus. All right, boys. This one's a doozy. Here we go. I don't know. Forward to Fortress, you were bound to stake this claim. Swirl on solitude, head it sound with a different name. Boundry rider.
Starting point is 00:18:52 Boundry rider Here comes the cavalry This is now Don't wait in back Worked on solid things These enchanted hours Lough fast Grade A solitude
Starting point is 00:19:16 This is how we change To glad Let me save passage, boundary rider. Locked him in the silence, you know, knocked him down the size, that's forever. Blot them in the silence, you know, we're all in, that's forever. Boundary rider
Starting point is 00:20:22 You were bound to mistake this claim. Pull on solitude. Headed sound with a different name. You could have said that was like a hidden track that Interpol did way back one, and I would have believed you, dude, or something. Yeah. Really awesome. I wonder if Paul Banks added any guitar in there,
Starting point is 00:20:57 because there was some that was just straight up in our pool. Yeah, I was I'm curious about that too. Yeah, dude from Tyco was like playing that on purpose and that style. Yeah, yeah, if he added on to the demo or all. He tours with a full band, so you wonder if he had his full band with him, too. What a cool collab. But yeah, that's great, man. Yeah, I love that, bro.
Starting point is 00:21:16 I want to peep back with Banks is cool as shit. Oh, yeah, dude. Doesn't even have to try to be cool. All right, Mitch. Okay, I'm going to bring in my one that I wanted to play originally first, but we're going to play it. Actually, no, I'm going to keep it audible on the audible trap. We're going to play.
Starting point is 00:21:33 It's the acronym one that's, I don't care if you care, is what that stands for by the Deadbolts. This is the band. Oh, like the Dead Bolt's Society. Just kidding. Nice, bro. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow. Great movie, bro. Yeah, a great movie.
Starting point is 00:21:53 When are you going to show running that one? When he's like 11? Jesus, man. He's going to cry like a rat eating onions, dude. Should I let him know that Robin Williams is dead and then show him that? God, dude, no, I'm going to cry. I'm sorry. We'll take all this out.
Starting point is 00:22:07 We'll take all this out. Oh, dude. Yeah, so anyhow, this song, I hinted it earlier at like a Kings of Leon song. This is the one. Oh. Straight up like if Kings of Leon, I'd stayed on a path that was still kind of souther. and catchy and not so radio friendly and kind of wash. You make me cry.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Buddy, what are you going to tell him? The Kings and Leon sold out. He's going to find that out on his own, bro. He's going to be like, okay. He'll be like, wait a second. What happened? So anyhow, what happened to their hair? Their hair went away, and their pocketbooks got huge.
Starting point is 00:22:48 This song is called, so this would, be my fifth and final one but i got one more that i'm going to close out with because the this is because y'all give me a christmas present but this song is called i don't care if you care i don't care and it's all acronym accroned up so i don't care if you don't care all right here we go They tell you something No, no, that daddy loving Could see it coming
Starting point is 00:23:39 I wanted nothing but numbing I wanted nothing to do with it That lonely love That lonely Oh, that lonely love I want some of it And I don't care if you don't care I don't care if you don't care
Starting point is 00:24:02 I don't care if you don't care love I'll be it for you Yeah, I can make it Tell them to shove it Not mean to break it I'll rise above it and love it. I want something to do with it. That lonely love,
Starting point is 00:24:25 that lonely, on that lonely love, I want some of it. And I don't care if you don't care, I don't care if you don't care, I don't care if you don't care, Lord, I'll be you for it. all this way
Starting point is 00:24:47 I walk a line to the edge of the old I make a deal with the devil and say I'll take care of your want to take care of your help I don't care if don't care
Starting point is 00:25:03 I don't care love I don't care if you don't care I don't care if you don't care love I don't care if you don't care I swear I'll be here for you I'll be here for you
Starting point is 00:25:20 I'll be here for you. I'll make a deal to the end in the end of the end. I make a deal with the devil and self take care of your heart, take care of your heart, take care of you. Oh, man, fantastic. Yeah. Amazing. Yes, that's just a great catchy fucking song.
Starting point is 00:25:49 I mean, there's no way they weren't influenced by early Kings of Leon. There's just no way. And like you just said, it was fucking 20 years ago. So like, these guys could have been fucking talking about and shit. Hearing it later on. I'm like, cool, dad. Thanks for the record. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:05 I mean, no joke. These guys could have been five years old or whatever when Kings of Leon came out. But that's awesome, though. Which means their dads could have been listening to it. Oh, Lord. It's cool because it's kind of meta. it's because the sound was always a classic rock sound right right totally
Starting point is 00:26:19 so now it's a classic classic rock sound in a way of just weird the way he phrased his phrasings and stuff yeah totally yeah straight up Caleb I love it dude yeah that record is great peep that whole record I'll be peeping all day that one is an outlier I mean that one's just a fucking so catchy dude yeah it's like that when you play that when you play for the
Starting point is 00:26:38 you know you're asking somebody to prom you play that fucking song you know what I'm saying that took me back to when I was like awkward 17 and trying to express emotions through a guitar solo that I heard. That one's great, bro. Love that one. I knew you would, too. Awesome, dude.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Okay, so take me away from me being 17 and awkward. God knows I don't want that, I guess. All right. So this has been on my best of 2025 list since it came out on this record. It's one of my favorite groups. It is an offshoot of one of my other favorite groups. So I'm talking about bleed, which is, comprised of a guy
Starting point is 00:27:16 that used to be in narrowhead and they put out a record you're probably the biggest narrowhead fan in Plano or in Texas bro no doubt dude and these guys are from Dallas actually I thought they were Houston crew narrowheads from Houston
Starting point is 00:27:31 apparently bleed is from Dallas oh cool right on whatever so but Ryan Hughes is the guy he used to be in narrowhead and used to sing for narrowhead until they did a little switcher and he left the group and then he's sort of been playing with bleed since then. So they put out their long-awaited self-titled record
Starting point is 00:27:47 and I played through the cylinder, I think, earlier this year, which is one of the singles. So I'm going to play another song for this record. And this is, these guys are just the textbook grunge alt. Sort of alt metal,
Starting point is 00:28:03 new metal revival kind of thing that's going out right now. So it's a beautiful thing. Here we go. It's a beautiful thing, dude. So here you go. This song is called shallow. I don't know. Oh, oh, until the bleeding stars, and I'm going to watch you, until it all the rambles, until it all the rainbows. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:29:43 And I'll say what I'll say what are so you will see While you fill my hand I hope you don't love I'm overtaicine when I'm still diamond's strong but saying is an invention
Starting point is 00:30:33 How you watch the men The lines are they're standing Now you're staring out killer and very like i mean yeah like like we were saying in the chat boys incubus yeah or like yeah early 2000s man and that's what i like about bleed is that they they go in that direction and most most of these grunge revival bands don't don't flirt with that so like there's even like there's even like the record scratch type of stuff oh yeah you know that like incubus and even like uh lincoln park used to do it yeah well they had a yeah DJ in the band yes exactly that's
Starting point is 00:31:33 really cool dude the whole record's phenomenal i mean there's i could have played any any track out the record and it was very hard to narrow it was starting to get straight up like uh emo delivery at the end almost like i don't know if you're gonna like this or not because but it just you was giving me lincoln park vibes there at the end like yes i'm not afraid dude link and park vocals i don't know much about i know that that or that early record by them the gray record with the brackets around the name is like a seminal record from that band uh and in that genre specifically but i was getting that vibe and it was i mean it was two thousand's vibe all all over that one, bro.
Starting point is 00:32:05 But cleaner, it was heavier because it's been, you know, a generation to be like filtered a bit and turned into something a little kind of slicker in a way. Yeah. What's great about this new batch of bands that are doing this is that they're blending new metal like that with grunge, with alt rock. And Lincoln Park definitely introduced like electronic type sounds and DJ scratches and strange transitions that were. It so did so did incubus. For sure. Yeah, definitely. That track off of Morning View is just a straight-up, like, fucking DJ.
Starting point is 00:32:38 I think it's probably not a hot take to say that any proper new, as in new metal, and U-metal band would have to have a good DJ or a live DJ with him because that was kind of the vibe, dude. Yes. I mean, eventually they kind of moved away from that, but for me, that was always like, whoa, cool. Look, a fucking guitar solo with a DJ bopping along in the bag, which it is cool, because, I mean, ultimately music all just collides in one way or another. So, yeah, that track was fucking really cool, man. It's been a heavier, a heavier episode.
Starting point is 00:33:05 Yeah, MS spoke. It's actually the track of of Make Yourself, Battlestar Stralachita. It's just like the DJ, the DJ for me. That's a tough pun. Yeah, just, that's just so long time, yeah. It was a stretch, yeah, a stretch for sure. I don't know how this happened, but we have not, we have not done an episode on Enkubis yet.
Starting point is 00:33:26 That has such a sick, dude, they're sick. It's kind of like a guilty pleasure for me if I'm being honest, but, but, but dude, that whole record and then people, love science. There's also really good songs on that, but make yourself that record, bro. Holy shit. Catch me type in all those early hits from them on Kazar, Limewire, trying to get that on my little maybe disc or
Starting point is 00:33:43 something of the period. They were fucking awesome, dude. Make yourself on Morning Viewer two of the best records, dude, from that era, for sure. Really cool era and sound that, yeah, I imagine a lot of people are influenced by it, which is kind of coming around. I know narrowhead's heavy as fuck, and I'll check out Bleed for sure, because I liked
Starting point is 00:33:58 what I heard there a little bit more than Narrowhead. So Bleed gets way, way heavier on the record. Like I was saying in the chat, that's the softest song on the record, man. Yeah, man, they're called Bleed. Exactly. All right. See, Quinn, you know, even bands like them are suspect to kind of maybe a cringe-worthy name every now and then. You know, it's, it happens to the best of us, bro. As everybody knows here, bleed is like Musuga's most, we're all known track. It's the heaviest track. Everyone hearing you that, man.
Starting point is 00:34:27 Well, I'm pretty sure I've talked about. Kevin Bacon, Musugia. It all rose to bring it back to the sugar, dude. Always got to bring it back with sugar. Anyway, all right. So Q, what's your last track? All right, dude. So I actually brought this exact same track to what you heard earlier this year. Son of a.
Starting point is 00:34:45 That's fine. Well, I'm hoping that Mitchell hasn't heard this because... I've been pretty cane on them this year. So let me see. All right, dude. The band is called The Paradox. It's not ringing any bells right away. A group of young lads, man, that are just straight up bringing the pop punk.
Starting point is 00:34:58 Yeah. Like straight up, like, blinkerated to Newfound Glory. type pop punk like they brought it back dude hoard and they're like they're just kids man and it's fucking awesome dude it's just it just it just makes me happy dude
Starting point is 00:35:14 and they they just formed last year and they just blew up so anyways this was their this was their song that I think kind of put them on the map now this one is called what's it called do me like that
Starting point is 00:35:27 do me like that yeah here we go I should have known it from the start you would deceive me and now I'm left alone and lost inside my head. You're killing me again. I should have known it when you said it was your first time. Yet the football team would hug you from behind, from behind. But I try, I try, I try, I try, I try to love you the same. But I cry, I cry, I cry.
Starting point is 00:36:15 And now I'm asking you, why you gotta do me like that? Gotta do me so bad. My cousin told me you smashed. I found there's new than your snap. You hit me when you're so ruined What the hell is gone with you? Tell me how I'll happen at all. Why you gotta do me like that?
Starting point is 00:36:35 Gotta do me so bad. Why you gotta do me like that? One day you say you love me, the next day you're saying something else. I don't care how you sleep at night, so I guess I'll take off running. Now I'm drinking, and I'm wasted. in a puking of all your voice, so try your eyes.
Starting point is 00:37:04 But I try, I try, I try, I try, I try to love you the same. But I cry, I cry, I cry, I cry. And now I'm asking you. Why you gotta do me like that? Gotta do me so bad. My cousin told me you smash. I found there's news in your snap. You hear me when you're sobering.
Starting point is 00:37:28 What the hell is why we're gonna happen at all? Why you gotta do me like that? Gotta do me so bad. Why you gotta do me like that? She loves me so, she loves me not, she loves me so, she loved me. I'll see what you love me Got me singing This stupid song about you
Starting point is 00:38:04 Can you see the hurt in my eyes Get me so annoying With a bit lazy Pourin Take this woman I'll say this in defense of that band Over some of maybe like Some more simple bands we compared them to
Starting point is 00:38:21 That was a cool little breakdown there They were taking it too It seemed like a transition to a new area yeah man i mean just going back to what we just talked about with with bleed like that's what i love about it is like like you like you said earlier this is what 20 years removed or whatever from blink and all those other pop punk bands they're gonna they're they're gonna do something different with it you know which is cool because i was kind of like a little soulful at the end you know his his vocal deliver and i think they're leaning into that style at the front part of that song
Starting point is 00:38:48 especially it was the like lyrical play on you know referencing snapchat found out you smashed Are these guys even out of high school, man? I don't know, dude. Yeah, ass-mashed. And that's pretty, dude, that's pretty tame compared to some of the shit that, like, Mark and Tom. Oh, yeah, dude. The blink talked about. Like, that's real, yeah, dude.
Starting point is 00:39:04 What's funny, I found a, uh, a thread on the pop punkers subreddit where he hit, Eric from the band, this is actually posted from the paradox. Yeah, from the band. And he's saying, like, I guess people were thinking that they were industry plants. for some reason or something like that but anyway so he's just like you know discrediting that talk about gatekeeping i know right i mean get the fuck out of here right but anyway so he says um we've already opened for jack white two weeks into the band that's awesome jack white's a fucking man dude and and Travis Barker plays drums on one of these songs oh there you go phenomenal dude but he said right here uh on vendor his name of the song he says green day and blink are my two
Starting point is 00:39:48 favorite bands well he didn't have to tell us that dude we already find out no shit no shit yeah Anyway, man, that's fucking awesome, dude. But yeah, you just love to hear it, man. It's kind of great to be old enough now to have younger people making music that sounds like the stuff I grew up in because it's like, oh, great, more of that, please, you know? Yeah, and it means that, you know, they like it just like we didn't. It means there's awkward 17-year-olds out there still, boys, that are just trying to express themselves through some fucking guitar solos and drum breakdowns. You know what I'm saying? Why'd you do me like that?
Starting point is 00:40:22 I had to find out through Snap, Snapchat. I don't even have, I think I had Snapchat for two minutes one day. I don't, yeah, never had it. But I can relate. It's funny, bro, because I'm, like I said, I'm thinking right back. That's great. Well, awesome, dude. That's great.
Starting point is 00:40:38 That was fantastic. Okay, I'm going to close it out, my last one of the year by my favorite band. Band I've seen the most, most recently. O.C. East Trave, we did an episode. Psychedelic Pop, I mean, Psychedelic Punk. No pop to be found here, boys. We're going to do, we're going to stay in the punk genre, but we're doing a 180 away from what we just listened to to a fucking god in the scene, a guy John Dwyer and his band, O-C's.
Starting point is 00:41:02 Right now, it's, you can look at it for both ways on Spotify or on YouTube, but it's just capital O-S-E-E-S. It's the rendition of it right now. A song is called Glitter Shot in the record. I'm trying to pull it up here. Abomination revealed at last. And yeah, just play it, bro. It's a fun journey.
Starting point is 00:41:22 I definitely played some of my catchier one, so to speak earlier, but I love the lyrics on this one. And it's just a fucking cool taste of what OC's offer, dude, which is a little bit of psych, a little bit of punk, a little bit of crowd, and a lot of wisdom in the words. So here we go. They want to suck our bones Empty down and strewn around We build it up, they tear it down All of our love just flashed around They never last, just replicate
Starting point is 00:42:05 We are in full, we are being So why don't you Show me something true I'd be shot many live off but lies keep the capital alive the tyrant needs attention to survive
Starting point is 00:42:34 they get around and make no sound they're in the sky and on the ground they merely ask and we abased they own our memories of DNA running their mouth conflict events having a gas at our expense don't lay no blood to stop the move towards a kingdom kangaroo so why don't you tell me something true i'd be shocked human anymore but lies keep the capital alive the tyrant needs attention
Starting point is 00:43:26 to survive your life under glass it turns them on somewhere I slide up our arms that's what they want to suck our most And it teed out and strewn the round We move it up, they tear it down All of our love just crashed around
Starting point is 00:43:50 They never last, just replicate We are in folk, we are vain So why don't you Show me something true I'd be shot Humanity Mom But lies keep the capital alive The tyrant needs attention to survive
Starting point is 00:44:22 I think I know what that song's about Yeah, yeah, that's right, man. really good lyrics yeah dude the the post scores but lies keep the capital alive the tyrant needs attention to survive yep glitter shot it's all about that for litter shot who could that be a meow yeah but no i mean but around that like the lyrics are just about like corporations yeah it touches on a lot of it's got like great like kind of sci-fi cyberpunk vibes the the art helps uh yeah that art that album's cool fucking real cool it's a japanese artist i can't think of his name But he does a lot of the artwork for OCs, Japanese dude, fucking awesome shit.
Starting point is 00:45:15 That's like animal collective aesthetic. Dude, yeah, man. I like the line, software eyes slide up our arms. I just see that as phones, is our cell phones. That's what he's talking about. Yeah, that's what they want. Software eyes, yeah, dude. And, you know, he's talking about all of our love just splashed around.
Starting point is 00:45:31 They never last. He's replicated. It feels like that to me. It feels like it's not appreciated so much anymore in the fast-paced day and age. And then, I mean, he's straight up says we are info. we are bait so good yeah we are the fucking product you know yeah yeah exactly exactly we're for sale the tyrant needs attention to survive boys and it's hard not to give them that but also it's nice knowing that john dwyer a literal like rock god to me wants to sing about that and wants to
Starting point is 00:45:58 people to hear about it so i can fucking relate to it dude big time it's awesome you have to dude he got that was a good cool he normally doesn't enunciate so much is he's kind of much more throaty and quick singy and kind of punky oh i mentioned yeah jimmore Morrison in the chat. Yeah, and I got some of that kind of vibes there. It was really cool. So the fact that he's not seeing that much makes me think he wants people to understand what he's saying. And it's just maybe or a turn for him at this time with them because he doesn't want to harsh his throat anymore. But yeah, that's a good one, bro. That record is fire really awesome. That's kind of a cooler, softer one off the record. A lot more of it's more aggressive because of the state that a lot of things are in. So that was a mild one in a sense, but the most straightforward in a lot of other ways. But check that record out. the abomination revealed at last, dude. They're fucking prolific, man. Jesus Christ. Yeah, they're so prolific, Quinn.
Starting point is 00:46:47 It's not fair. It really isn't fair. I don't know. It's like King Gizzard and the lizard. They are. They are. And King Giz has kind of a, they lean into more of a psych jam vibe. And whereas O.C.'s got kind of a more punk vibe cornered in a garage vibe cornered, which I did because it's a little quicker.
Starting point is 00:46:59 It's not too much noodling. But Giz deserves a shout out in that way. OCs are the shit, though, bro. The shit. Yeah. Dope. Fuck yeah, boys. 25 in the back
Starting point is 00:47:11 fucking came and went man came and went it really did bro which makes you think it'll just be that way moving forward so I just have to suck up as much music as I can thanks what are you gonna close it with
Starting point is 00:47:24 what you got up your sleeve I mean I could close us with another bleed track well I'll probably be piecing this one together dude maybe I'll maybe I'll keep it a surprise yeah nice I fucking fine then dude But yeah, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:47:51 All right, well, there you have it. We're finally done. There's our picks. We had Mitchell help. Close us out. And who doesn't love Mitch? You know what I mean? Who doesn't love him?
Starting point is 00:48:02 We all do. And he got a proper, what do you get? He got, like, a webcam and some other sort of podcasting, or a proper, a new chair, I think. Yeah. No more squeaks. No more squeaky chair, dude. I'm going to miss it. So he told us that he's upgrading his equipment because he's going to continue to be featured on the show as our third host going into the new year.
Starting point is 00:48:28 So, yeah, look forward to that. I'm going to do a quick crash course with him, too, on recording and get it. him up up to snuff, dude. It's going to be fun. I'm excited. That is great. All right. Well, again, thanks for listening. We'll have our first deep dive episode coming up soon. Not sure what that's going to be yet. But, you know, I think we, man, we had lots of ideas, Q. Do you remember what those ideas were? We had ideas, man. Well, whatever. We'll figure it out. Probably going to be more of the same shoegaze, some sort of 90s rock. Oh, there's going to be shoeges drive. For sure. You know, I mean, we ended last year with like folk, you know, and lots of folk music.
Starting point is 00:49:09 Lots of folk. I think we should do some more Terror Corps, dude. Let's do a whole episode on Terror Corps. Oh, yeah, dude, that's a good idea. I want to hear more of that pics squealing. That's a good idea. I think the listeners really want that. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:49:22 But we did talk about, actually, this is one of the ideas I'm remembering. We teased an idea of doing like an all-new metal episode with Mitchie. Yeah, yeah. That would be fun. That would be fun. Because I could sneak in a little system of it down, finally, because I've been talked about doing... Oh, you don't got to sneak him in.
Starting point is 00:49:38 I've always wanted to do a full episode on System of a Down, but... Yeah, dude, I think that'd be great. Okay. I think that'd be fun. Because I could spread it out across our old discography. For sure, yeah. Okay, see the wheels they're already spinning. The turntable's spinning, as they say.
Starting point is 00:49:53 See what I did? I see that. All right, well, again, thanks as always for listening. We appreciate you sticking in there as we crank out our best of 2025. And, yeah, hopefully you found a new artist or album to check out. Based on our recommendations, I know for sure you're listening to the K-pop Demon Hunters record and you haven't stopped listening since episode one of our best of, right, Q? I know you've definitely listened to it, right?
Starting point is 00:50:21 Ronan was watching that movie. I always let him watch a little TV while I'm cleaning the kitchen in the morning. K-pop Demon Hunters, dude. And was he singing? Oh, no. Not yet. Well, soon enough. Now, those songs haven't made it to his Spotify playlist yet, Chaff.
Starting point is 00:50:38 So it wasn't good enough. I know that that playlist is carefully curated. You know what he's super into right now? Skater Boy by Avril Avivine. It's one of his favorite songs. It's a timeless. It's a banger, dude. It's a banger, yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:52 Yeah. But yeah, man, those lyrics are something. He's almost got the lyrics down, dude. Good. All right, let's stop talking for fucks. All right. Well, hey, check us out on Instagram. If you want to reach out, that's the best place to do it. And, yeah, we'll talk to you guys soon. My name is Travis. And I'm Gwinton. Y'all take care. Oh, my name. You know, and I'm going to be able to be.
