And on this month's what you heard, we're kicking things off with a brand new song from Hamilton Lighthouser. This song is called Burn the Boats. One of the all-time greats, dude, from the early O's indie alt-rock scene.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Dude, he's up there for me as one of the best vocalists out of that era of, yeah, the garage rock, the garage band, all the bands that started with the word the, you know? Dude, there's so many of them. So if you don't know, Hamilton Lighthouser is the lead singer in the walk-refer. Man fantastic group. Oh, yeah, man. Bows and arrows. So we did, yeah, we did an episode.
Starting point is 00:03:48 Did we cover just Bos and arrows? No, no. So we did an episode back in 2021. We covered like four of their records, possibly their first four records. Okay. But, yeah, man. I still think that performance of the rat on Latterman. It was Conan.
Starting point is 00:04:06 No, no, it was Lederman. Oh, okay. Was one of the best, like, performances. I had seen on a late night show for sure. I agree, man. So damn good. The drummer, too, is just going bananas. Yeah, and we played the audio from the live performance.
Starting point is 00:04:24 But there it is. He's back, man. Yeah, I don't know how many, like, has he been dropping solo records for a while? I guess so. Looks like it. Yeah, yeah. I don't know when his last album was, but... It was...
Starting point is 00:04:39 It was... Three years ago. 2022. Wow. Okay. So, yeah, one thing we talked about, if you want to go back and listen to the episode to kind of hear our full breakdown. But, like, as their albums progressed, like, there's, you know, I think he became a dad, stuff like that. So, like, the stuff they would sing about change a little bit.
Starting point is 00:04:57 But, and so, yeah, I'm curious what he's, with this new record, I'm not to have to dive into the lyrics and kind of see what he's, what's, what's been going on with his life. You know what I mean? Because he's probably, I think he's the kind of songwriter that, that sings about. his experiences, you know. So at this point, he knows, man, he may be a grandad at this point. God. Are we that old now, dude?
Starting point is 00:05:21 Yeah, dude. Anyway, yeah, that was awesome, man. That's a contender for the best of the video. One of his songs will show up for sure on our best of. It might be that one. But no, that's promising, man. I'm going to have to check that out. So, yeah, that album, again, is this side of the island,
Starting point is 00:05:40 which actually, I don't know if I say the name of the island. album earlier because this is our intro track. So yeah, the album is called This Side of the Island. It came out in March of this year. That's how we're kicking off our what you heard for this month. If you don't know, this is our monthly mixtape where we each bring five songs to the table, songs that we've been listening to. Could have heard it on a show. Could I heard it and a target. Could have heard it anywhere. And I know that's where you like to shop, Jeff. No, not anymore, dude. I'm all about H-E-B. Oh, what? Dude. I thought I'd never hear the day.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Y'all were like loyal target shoppers for a while. Well, you know. I don't know. The GPs a little bit cheaper. Okay, yeah. Yep, there it is. So, Tribe, you're kicking us off this month. So what's you got?
Starting point is 00:06:30 All right. So I hadn't really heard of these guys before. And they are really interesting because I've been hopping around their records. They're called Blanket. blanket that sounds familiar i think i may have brought song of theirs to no feathers at some point let's go to the feed and find out let's pull up the old no filler feed blanket indeed nope you did not we had an episode called a warm blanket the music of the sundays the sundays this is how they describe themselves shoe gaze post-rock grunge okay wow chav that's the kind of
Starting point is 00:07:07 mixture of real. Right on the nose from what we listened to. The UK. So the first record I listened to there is called Modern Escapeism. So I'm not playing a track from that record, but it's worth noting that that album was very
Starting point is 00:07:23 like more on the ambient lush sounding like shoegaze, very like ambient, did I already say ambient? More like, you know, very soft vocals and stuff. So I was really surprised when I jumped to their 2024 record Ceremonia, that it was way more, yeah, more post-punk.
Starting point is 00:07:46 I'm going to say, actually, I'll wait until after, because I want to see if you agree with me on who I thought of. So they just put out a new single called Levitate, which means they may be putting out another record this year. But I'm going to play a song from their 2024 record. I'm going to play the title track off this record. So here we go. again, this band is called Blanket, and this song is called Ceremonia.
Starting point is 00:10:21 Awesome. Playing with a lot of different genres there, man. Kind of blending them together. Oh, you know what I was getting? Just to finish that thought. I was getting some early Foo Fighters vibes. There it is. That's exactly what I was thinking.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Awesome. I mean, the drums, clearly. Yes. Clearly. I'm talking like debut record from 95 Foo Fighters. Yes. Definitely. This is a call is the song that I thought of.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Yeah, man. The guitar rhythms, for sure. The drumming, obviously, obviously a Dave Girl fan. Yeah. Who isn't, right? Right. But anyway, so there you go. Blanket.
Starting point is 00:11:04 They're really interesting, man. Because you're going to get a lot of different styles, not just from that one song right there. But like I said, if you want something a little bit more soft and kind of ethereal. and stuff. Modern escapism. Their 2021 record. And then they switch it up from album to album. So or probably from, you know, between the albums. But yeah, dude, at the end, there's
Starting point is 00:11:28 a song, actually, I will just say in general, I said ethereal and soft, but there's also some really almost like metal that they throw in a few times on modern escapism. So yeah, really interesting band. So that was Blanket. That song was called Ceremony off their 2024 record of the same name. And I'll throw it back to you, Q, what's your first pick?
Starting point is 00:11:52 All right, dude. So let me see. How did I find this band? So there's a group called The Swell Season. Have you ever heard of them? It's not ringing any bells, Q. This album of theirs popped up under my radar because I think there was like an LP reissue of an album of theirs.
Starting point is 00:12:14 that came out in 2006, self-titled. But I'm not playing a song from them, dude. I actually really like their stuff, but this actually turned me on to another group that one half of the swell season used to be in. He was kind of like the frontman of this group. So his name is Glenn Hansard, and he was the frontman of the frames.
Starting point is 00:12:38 You ever heard of the frames, Tram? Haven't heard of him. I'm cute. All right, brother. So you're going to love this stuff because I was immediately reminded of, what was the band that we covered last, for our last deep dive? Tragically hip.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Yes. In that same vein. Okay. And we're going to play a song from their debut record, another love song is what the album's called. It came on 92 draft. Okay, just keep that in mind. I love it.
Starting point is 00:13:07 I love it. Yep. Yep. So this is debut record. the first song on the record, which is, you know, I like to share that because this is like, especially with debut records, like this is their, like, this is us, here we are. Hope you like it. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:13:23 This song is called The Dancer. Doesn't get better than that. Great. First of all, let me just say this. Majesty Crush. Majesty Crush. The, the vocal sound. The vocal, big time.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Not this is, not the, not the, not the, the vibes. Yeah, I mean, not the, yeah, because I remember the, we did an episode last year on Majesty Crush, and the guy was interesting. Troubled, man. Trouble guy, yeah. So his songs were about weird shit. Weird shit. But, so yeah, but I mean, the vocal styling sounded exactly like the Majesty Crush guy. But, so, dude, interesting enough, man, I was just reading a little bio about the frames.
Starting point is 00:16:51 They're from Ireland. Yeah, and apparently they're one of the most successful bands of their generation in Ireland. We sure did, you know why? Because it's, yeah. But hey. Dude, that's interesting, man, because we were talking about the cranberries, how we were talking about. Years ago, we did an episode on the cranberries.
Starting point is 00:17:10 And I think we were talking about that same thing where it's like, and we just, I guess we didn't do our research because I'm sure we were saying like, you know, well, how many bands are from Ireland that you can name or blah, blah, blah. I mean, it's hard to say that the frames. are more popular than the cranberries in terms of like well known bands from Ireland but maybe that's
Starting point is 00:17:34 they're probably there perhaps they are more successful over there exactly. That's exactly what it's saying. In America we immediately jump to the cranberries when we think of rock pants for the 90s from Ireland anyway so that's interesting since like you said dude
Starting point is 00:17:47 you put them in the same ballpark as tragically hip at least and that's interesting because tragically hip is definitely one of the most successful if not the most successful band from Canada, rock band from Canada. So, interesting, dude. I'm going to have to spin that up for sure. So again, that was the dancer by the frames and pass it back to you, Trey. All right, Q, so I'm going to pull the curtain back a little bit here.
Starting point is 00:18:13 This is the band that I had planned on doing a deep dive episode on before we went with Tragically Hip. I still think that it might happen maybe later in the year. But I have been wanting to share these tunes for so long. I'm going to play a track. One of the tracks that I was going to play, there's plenty to choose from. So there's still enough that we could devote an episode to this group. So I'm sure you remember this band, Q,
Starting point is 00:18:45 because this is one of the CDs that Spencer had, our older brother, another 90s band. So perfect follow-up. Days of the New. Do you remember Days of the New? Not ringing a bell. Their biggest hit was a song called Touch, Peel, and Stand. I guarantee you, if I played you the opening riff to that,
Starting point is 00:19:05 you'd immediately know exactly who this is, and you'd remember the song. And was that the album that Spencer had? Yes, he had the self-title. I don't remember that at all. Anyway, fantastic group. What made them so interesting, So, you know, the very well-known Allison James record, Jar of Flies by Allison Chains?
Starting point is 00:19:30 I know that that's an album that they created. Come on now, Q. I'm sorry, Joe. So it made the record stand out. It had a lot of, like, very acoustic forward songs. And there's that song, Nutshell that is infamous for the unplugged concert. that they did on MTV where the dude singing his heart out and you could just feel the pain in Lane Staley's voice and then, you know, shortly after he died, right?
Starting point is 00:20:01 Anyway, so this record is basically Jarrah Flies in the sense that it's a grunge kind of rock band, but they do a lot of, it's all acoustic. And so it's really interesting. And yeah, I'm just going to let it speak for itself here. So here we go. This is a song from Days of the New off of their self-titled record. This song is called Freak. James Hetfield, the guest vocalist there?
Starting point is 00:24:03 That lead singer? Yeah. Well, that's, yeah, you can't deny the Hatfield, the signature Hatfield grunt there. But yeah, apart from that, though. Yeah, I wasn't expecting those beautiful harmonies. Hey, man. Big fan. That's what made Allison Chain so great as their harmonizing.
Starting point is 00:24:30 But there's another song, and I'm going to play it later when we do this episode, because I'm committed to talking about these guys. But they are really talented, accomplished guitar players. And that wasn't really showcased on this song. But they've got like classical guitars and like these really interesting guitar solos that they do, like in the middle of their songs and stuff. Really interesting song structures, lyrics. Just a really, really solid record, man. I played it all the way through for the first time and maybe ever this year because I've dabbled in a few of their songs through my life.
Starting point is 00:25:08 But I was just like I was impressed, man, really blown away. And then I think what happened is. In fact, I'll save it for the episode if we ever talk about it. But they put out their follow-up record. So every single one of their records are self-titled, because why not? So it's just, yeah. So people, the fans referred to them as the yellow album, the green album, and the red album. So the second self-titled is the green album.
Starting point is 00:25:36 And it's really ambitious. Like they tried to do a bunch of really interesting things. They brought in like an orchestra and stuff like that. and I feel like they bet off more than they could chew. But there's still really interesting songs on there. So anyway, days of the new, if you like that vibe, pull up their first self-titled record, the yellow album, and give it a spin.
Starting point is 00:25:57 It will not disappoint. All right, Q, back at you. Are we staying in the 90s or are you hopping around? Well, this artist, I would say this artist made it big in the 90s, but we're not going to play a song from back then from this dude. Beck? We've all heard of him, Travis. And there he is, man. Man, he's, now he, we should do a tally and see.
Starting point is 00:26:21 I think he might be the artist that has appeared on this podcast the most. You really think so? Consistently throughout, over the years. Dude. Oh my gosh. Man, I forgot. Let me check and see if it's still, I'm pretty sure that our C-change episode is gone. Yep.
Starting point is 00:26:36 It was, it was next from, at least from Spotify. You know what, dude? I don't even remember getting a, at least a courtesy email from, what is this, Geffen. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, or Universal. There it is, UMG, Universal Music Group. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:55 They're the ones that. Yeah, we've heard from them before, did. We've gotten in trouble with them quite a few times. Oh, yeah. Our Taman Pala, one of our Taman Pala, actually, it wasn't even a full episode on TAM. I think it was, we just played, for some reason. I think we played the entire song. We did.
Starting point is 00:27:11 We did. And it was one of the, it was one of the whole episode. there, it was, I think it was during the best of for that year. Yeah, so it was probably, uh, it was probably inner speaker or not inner speaker. Um, whatever the other problem was, the one that went, what, I can't remember. I can't remember. Me neither. They want the fucking pinball going through like, uh, no, wasn't that one dude.
Starting point is 00:27:30 It was the one, we haven't been doing this podcast for that long, brother. Uh, it was. No, yeah, it was. Currants. It was the slow rush. It was the slow rush. It was the slow. Currants came out a decade ago.
Starting point is 00:27:41 Yes. Not a decade. Oh, yeah. Oh, shit. Oh, God. That doesn't make sense to me. I can't comprehend that right now. Yeah?
Starting point is 00:27:48 What the hell? All right. Well, whatever. Anyways. Well, that was a tangent. Yeah. So our, yeah, one of my favorite albums from Beck. We did a whole album, a whole episode on it, and it's gone.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Anyways, so Beck just never stops, dude. If you look at his singles, it's bananas, man. He drops music all the time. He collaborates with a bunch of them. And he collaborates. or the bunch of people. Yeah. So he dropped this, and I'm bringing this after your pick because it's an acoustic song,
Starting point is 00:28:21 so it fits well. This song called Thinking About You back in 2023. I hadn't heard it before. Pleasantly surprised, dude. Really beautiful acoustic song. So anyways, yeah, Beck, another one of the greats always will be. And yeah, here we go. This is a pretty little acoustic song.
Starting point is 00:28:43 by him. It's called Thinking About You. song to sing your daughter to sleep, too, Q. Oh, I said that. I said that off mic, but yeah, dude. Well, I set it on because that's adorable. And when did this come out? 2023.
Starting point is 00:31:35 If Beck's not in the Hall of Fame yet, what's going on? You know? Yeah, like you said, man. He's never stopped. He's been all over the map, too, in like the best way possible. Unbelievable, man.
Starting point is 00:31:48 Yeah, dude. All right. So, yeah, that was best. thinking about you. I think it's time to do a 180. Have you got one for us? Okay, well, since you phrased it that way, I was going to wait, you know,
Starting point is 00:32:02 because this is the, it doesn't get more whiplash than that's Q, but I'm going to do it. I plan on playing this anyway. So as you know, Quentin, I am going to go see my sugar tomorrow night. And so, of course, we got to listen to some of sugar. We have to do it
Starting point is 00:32:20 because I'm going to go see them tomorrow and I'm so stoked. All right, man. And just get ready. I will never be. I will never be ready. You're about to be. Okay. Well, yeah, you might be ready, but I think hopefully you'll like this.
Starting point is 00:32:32 I know this is on the set list too, so I'm stoked, man. All right, here we go. You took a sneak peek at the set list, brother? Yeah, dude. How dare you? I don't care. All right. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:32:42 So, I apologize. If you don't like metal, you can skip ahead, like, I don't know, two and a half minutes or something like that. If you do like metal, you're welcome, because this is one of the best heavy metal groups of all time. Here we go. And again, apologies for, put your seatbelt on or something because it's about to be some whiplash. Here we go. Here is Musuga. This song is called Rational Gaze.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Is it starting to click yet, Kia? I see you now. But let me, what makes them? one of the best metal bands of all time. Is it a combination of his, like his lyrics? Is it the way that they... It's the lyrics, for sure. The stylings of the, I don't know, the chugging of the bass, the drums.
Starting point is 00:36:15 Is it all that? Yep. Okay. It's definitely one hundred percent about the rhythm section, for sure. Yeah, dude. You definitely go to Amishuga concert to watch the drummer and be amazed. Oh, dude, that's going to be a massive drum kit. Massive.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Oh, yeah. Yep. Yeah, 100%. There's a song. And so, of a music... Of course, they make us wait for the encore, but they're... I can't believe you looked at the set list, brother. I got to know.
Starting point is 00:36:41 I got to know it's coming my way. Anyway, I just... That's the best part of a concert you don't know. I don't care. That's fine. But like, so their most popular song is called Bleed. And the entire song, pretty much the entire song, the drummer is hitting the bass in sync with the guitar strumming.
Starting point is 00:37:04 and they're going really fast and he's just hitting the bass drum, the double bass drum the entire time and it's insane. Can I, dude, let me say, I just want to throw something out here,
Starting point is 00:37:14 okay? Throw it. Um, I was just, I was reminded of, now this is not with, obviously the, the vocals are different,
Starting point is 00:37:23 but I was reminded of, as far as like, his, like the timing of, of the verses and whatever, the cadence or whatever, I was reminded, of Aaron Weiss, Me Without You.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Think about that. That what, not the vocals, though? Yeah. Not the way he sounds, but that song in particular, the way that he carried the words. Just reminded me of how Me Without You, how Aaron Weiss did that, like, poetic, not like, you know, like more just talking and more just screaming and not necessarily melodic. I got news for you, dude. You guarantee you do the first person to make that commercial. But, yeah, we can go with it.
Starting point is 00:38:09 Yeah. Yeah, so one of the reasons they're also, like, iconic, they basically invented a genre. Okay, yeah, see, that's what I figured, yeah. So the term is called gent, D, J, E, and T. I've heard of that, okay. I probably talked about it. Yeah, you've heard.
Starting point is 00:38:26 Because I think I brought a song from the Doom video game soundtrack, and he drew influence from Meshigua. Anyway, it's that palm muted guitar sound. Anyway, so that was off of their... They've been around since 87, by the way. They've been around for a long time. That, again, so that song was called Rational Gaze off of their 2002 album Nothing.
Starting point is 00:38:54 And I'm going to report back, dude, on the next episode about my experience because it's going to be fucking amazing. All right, Q. Back to you. Another 180s coming our way. All right, man. I'm so tempted to do this because I just want to get your reaction. I don't know. What are your thoughts on Billy Elish, Trev?
Starting point is 00:39:14 I like her. I mean, I don't dislike her. I respect her. Okay. I, um. She's phenomenal, dude. I mean, her and her and her brother. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:24 Um, who produces. Yeah, Phineas. Um, yeah, man, they're unstoppable as far as like what they can do. I mean, the fact that they, they did a Bond song, you know. Yeah, dude. I mean, yeah, they're really, really talented. This, now this is a 180, for sure, dude, for sure. All right, so this is, again, her album from last year, hit me hard and soft.
Starting point is 00:39:52 This song is called Birds of a Feather. I'm just glad we can hear her voice finally. What does that mean? I'm just kidding. But like on her first record, I mean, her sound when she first whisper, it's like very, very breathy. That's true. That was kind of her style, her signature style. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:52 And now she's not, it's like she's raising the decibel just a little bit. We kind of hear her voice. But here's a guarantee. No music podcasts ever has or will ever play Mishiga, followed by Billy. Never. We're the first to do it. I can safely say that. Absolutely. And I, dude, that might be the song with the most plays on Spotify that we've ever featured on this show. Probably, I don't think we've ever reached the two billion range for plays. On Spotify. Now, in terms of just like plays, global plays, the history of play counts, we've done plenty of bands that have surpassed that number.
Starting point is 00:43:39 But I'm just saying in terms of just the Spotify popularity, we tend to go a little bit more obscure, you know, obscure. Yeah, because not only was that a Billy I always sung, but I was one of her singles. But great, great, great song, great song. Yeah. Yeah, it's just that that's one of those artists that, like I'll be interested in what she puts out forever. Yeah, because it seems like they're really going to get better. Yeah. She's always evolving her in Finnis.
Starting point is 00:44:07 Yeah, man, I'm really interested to see what. but what she does next. All right, Tram, is this, how many songs do we played, man? I got two more. Good God. So you got three more. All right. What, I have three more?
Starting point is 00:44:21 Yeah, because you're the last. Hang on. Okay. Are you serious? Okay, hold on. I've played, I've played. I've played three. I've played three.
Starting point is 00:44:31 Yeah, so I got two more. So I got two more. Because I just played. Oh, that's right. You just played. All right, right. Hold on. There we go.
Starting point is 00:44:37 All right, so we're all over the map right now. I'm going to jump us to 1976. Whoa, dude. So that's just a random Shazam in the wild. I was at a very delicious pizza establishment in Texas. This is a pizza chain native to Texas called Kanye Roso. I don't know if you've ever been cute. Nope.
Starting point is 00:45:04 but I highly recommended if you're in Texas they are spread out mostly in North Texas but anyway they were just playing some very eclectic stuff and I was my ears were perked up and this is a band
Starting point is 00:45:23 a group I should say a disco group called El Coco and this song is just awesome dude and we're just having fun right now, Q. So here we go. This song is called, let's get it together. We just pull the first again, dude. And I mean, the first and never again will this ever happen?
Starting point is 00:48:20 Mishugger, potentially. Billy Eilish, El Coco, 1996, back to back to back. Or just remove the artist, you know, progressive metal, whatever you want to call Billy Alex, pop. And then disco. Disco. And I mean, how popular is that band? I don't know, man. Because, you know, there was so many bands dropping. Let's put it this way, Q.
Starting point is 00:48:46 Billy Elish has, what, $2 billion plus plays? Let's Get It Together has $331,000. Dude, this is. So it's not, it's not, it is. It really is, yeah. I would put some of the stuff on my wall. But, yeah, obviously Spotify numbers don't mean Jack Didley. They don't.
Starting point is 00:49:03 They don't. Because this is a disco. song of the 70s, you know what I mean? Most of the people that probably used to throw down some El Coco. They're probably in the old folks home right now, dude. Watch yourself now. I'm just saying.
Starting point is 00:49:19 They're like a Spotify what? That's why. That's the name of my first dog when I was a kid. Spot. All right. That was a bad. That was bad. But I went with it.
Starting point is 00:49:31 So yeah, dude, that was just a little pallet cleanser for us here. That was fun, man. That's fun. You can't go wrong with that. We're spinning. Dude, because obviously you're going to have another 180. Yeah, now I just got to think of... Oh, man, look at some of these track names off of their greatest hits. Aphrodisi.
Starting point is 00:49:48 You know, that's got to be good. Ooh, a brighter shade of blue. I wonder if that's a nod to Miles Davis. Yeah. Gave me some Brazil. I was half expecting and wanting Donald Fagan to start singing. It sounded like it could have been like a Steve-Anne track. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:07 Anyway. All right, cute, what do you got? Have you heard of a artist named Tamarin? That sounds familiar. Yeah. Really? It's a, I don't, I guess you could place her in shoe gaze. Oh, yeah, dude.
Starting point is 00:50:23 She may have shown up on this podcast before. Okay. Nope. She has not. Man, you've got that, you got that feed pulled up, huh? Oh, yeah. I visit it many a time. So this is an album first from 2015 called Crane Kiss.
Starting point is 00:50:42 This song is called Hands All Over Me. I feel like that was actually a pretty good follow-up to some disco. Yeah. Yeah, it was kind of 80s. I mean, very 80s. Yes, definitely. Very 80s. Yeah, very 80s.
Starting point is 00:53:39 But yeah, I liked some of the stuff they were doing in the background there. There was some nice textures, very high energy. track, good vocals, dancing, poppy, yeah, yeah, Cynthia. So apparently this is her first album where she was like, she wasn't doing, like wasn't going so heavy on the shoegaze. Okay.
Starting point is 00:53:59 Yeah, so let me just read this what pitchfork says here. No longer competing for Sonic Space with a heavy wash of guitar, Tamron's voice even drenched in Reaver becomes the focus. So I think she was going a little heavy-handed on the wall of sound kind of shoegays, prior to this, now it's more just straight up like, you know, Cocktow twins kind of dream pop. Cocteau. Apologies. You better say it right, too.
Starting point is 00:54:26 We're going to get a nasty worded. Sorry. Message. But yeah, man, great stuff. Tamarin is the artist. Crane Kiss is the album. That song was hands all over me. All right, Trev, you got one more song to share.
Starting point is 00:54:41 All right, man. I'm going to bring us back to some harder, heavier stuff. And take us back to the 90s again. So you've probably heard of Henry Rollins, right, Q? Oh, yeah, of course. Yeah. Very legend, legendary frontman of a band called Black Flag. And then, of course, he had his solo.
Starting point is 00:55:12 band, a solo project that was called the Rollins Band. Anyway, so my Instagram feed is, like the algorithm, is constantly showing me, like, live performances from the 90s and stuff like that of rock bands and stuff. And I came across this footage of the Rollins band playing this festival called Bazaar Festival in 1987. And there was a song I never heard of. I've never really given Rollins Band a fair show. And man, I freaking love this track, dude.
Starting point is 00:55:46 So now I'm going to have to deep dive into this group. So I'm actually going to play the live audio from this festival. So this song is called Disconnect, came off of their 1994 record called Wait. But this is a live performance from 1997. So here we go. Yeah, that was cool, dude. Great band. like the great music
Starting point is 00:59:04 interesting lyricist now this might be another first Travis as far as what I'm going to say right now saying at least in the chorus I was getting some Jim Morrison vibes
Starting point is 00:59:18 Yes me too You and me brother All right so we're probably not the first people to say that No no no probably not but yeah so if you're a fan of Marlins band
Starting point is 00:59:31 you know that song. Apparently it's one of their biggest hits, which is funny because like, you know, here I am. Late to the fucking party, 30 years later, I'm finally like, okay, let me check these guys out because that that was great. Dude, all I remember from Henry, about Henry Rollins is that he was interviewed in almost every, like, MTV. Oh, yeah. You know, like the, when they used to deep dive into album, or VH1, when they used to deep dive into albums and artists, he was always interviewed.
Starting point is 00:59:59 Yeah, he shows up all over the, I mean, like he, yeah, he's just a presence in pop culture, I think, over the last however many years, 40 years or whatever. But him and Scott Ian, the guy with the crazy goatee. Yeah, the guy from Anthrax. Yeah, he was, I always remember him a lot showing up on this. Yeah, so it was like the I heart the 80s or whatever. Yeah, those kind of things. But he's also a comedian.
Starting point is 01:00:26 So you may have seen him do stand-up before. Yeah, he's done stand-up. Anyway, he's an actor. So yeah, he's just all over the place. Anyway, so, Rollins Band, that was called Disconnect. You know, a message that we can all pay attention to right now, dude. He's just like, I just want to disconnect myself.
Starting point is 01:00:43 Pull, what was the exact lyrics? Let me get it right, dude. Let me get it right. I want to pull it out. Where's the brain part? Pull my brain stem out and unplug myself. We've all been there, Henry. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:01:05 I'd love to unplug myself right now, dude. That's why I got, you know, an acre of land out here. Surrined by trees, dude. Get me out of here. You work for Amazon, bro. Don't pay now. Don't, uh, you don't got to share that with people. You're pretty plugged in, my friend.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Yeah, I'm extremely. Me too. Anyway, so Henry Rallens, I was called Disconnect off of their 1994 record, wait. And I don't know how you're going to bring us home? All right. You've probably heard this band, dude. And this is another one of those, one of those verses like, why haven't I listened to it sooner? The magnetic fields.
Starting point is 01:01:41 I heard of them, yep. Oh, they've been around since 89. And this song I'm about to play is from 1995, which kind of blew me away, only because, like, this sound. So it's kind of like a synth wave, a new wave, whatever, like the cure and all them, you know, they were all under that umbrella. So this is a song off their album from, uh, from, 95 called Get Lost. This is actually the last song on the record. This song is called The Dreaming Moon.
Starting point is 01:02:11 I like the monotone delivery. I think when it's done, right? Yeah. When it's done, I think that kind of vocal stylings needs a nice melody in the background to help. And I feel like that had that nice just kind of almost like, it's almost like a kind of like a, I don't know, some kind of like, like a beachy islandy kind of you know what i mean that probably not what you're thinking but not at all it just kind of a almost not reggae but almost it's a very you know very island vibes you know really that's what that's what i was thinking okay now you might you might be the
Starting point is 01:05:32 first person to say that draft you know lots of first on this episode uh i haven't really listened to the rest of this album. That song just kind of popped up somehow. I don't know. I think Ronan was just clicking around on Spotify. He finds random songs. No way. You randomly just played that track? That's pretty cool, man. How many songs on this podcast have been played because you're two-year-old? Just randomly picked it and you're like, this is great. I'm bringing this to my podcast. I mean, this might be the first, actually. But no, because he's the first of many more to come. Oh, yeah, dude. Yeah. But, no, and this song is actually on his playlist. He has his own playlist. And we were listening, we heard this song together for the first time.
Starting point is 01:06:20 Why don't you put some of sugar on there, dude? Are you going to turn them, Trave? Are you going to turn them into a metalhead? I'm going to turn him to a metalhead and a horror fan. Okay. That's my plan for all of my nephews. Okay. What about your niece? Hmm? She's coming, dude. Yeah, absolutely. She'll be here soon. Dude, women love horror. Okay. Okay, true crime. So yeah, dude, wrap it up that way with a little magnetic fields. Good closer.
Starting point is 01:06:47 Yeah. Should we just fade out with more of that Hamilton Lighthouse or track? Unless you got an outro in mind. Yeah, let's do that. Okay. Or we could do another, uh, let's do another El Coco, dude. All right. Some more disco.
Starting point is 01:07:02 All right. All right. So this will be a gamble because I haven't listened to anything, but let's get it together. But I can't imagine. all of their stuff isn't great, man. So we're going to play Cocoa Motion. That is their biggest hit. It was featured on, it's been featured in movies and stuff.
Starting point is 01:07:17 We'll close out with Cocoa Motion by El Coco. You see, for me, Q, it's the Coco. That's the Alcoqo. Dude, that's the new season's coming out. I know, man. And it's a time jump. High hopes. It's a time jump.
Starting point is 01:07:33 That's going to be. You see Bobby as an older, older man. Talking about King of the Hill, for those who weren't paying attention. Yeah, dude, I can't wait. All right. Well, I don't know what we're doing next month for our deep dive. I feel like I should get a chance to pick one. It's been a while.
Starting point is 01:07:53 I feel like you're always taking the reins for that. Go ahead. So we'll, yeah, we'll come at you with a deep dive into an album or artist next.
