Hi, I'm Mike Judge, and you're listening to the Pantheon Network.
Welcome to No Filler. I'm Quentin.
And I'm Travis.
And on this month's, what you heard?
we're kicking things off with a brand new song from Wishy.
This song is called Over and Over.
So they showed up on last year's best of for you, right?
For the album Triple Seven.
I don't remember which song.
I mean, dude, look at how many songs I've liked on this album.
Yeah, that was from Triple Seven, which just came out in 2024.
So, yeah, just last year.
Yeah, man.
And they're back.
And they're back.
just with a little EP, a little six-strike EP called Planet Pop Star, which is what that song was on.
That's awesome.
Indeed.
Yeah.
They're great because they're one of those bands where, you know, depending on who's singing, it's a totally different sound.
But like, yeah, yeah, it's just, yeah, really, really good stuff.
It's the perfect throwback, man, to like the 2000s.
They do it in a really cool way.
It's like that pop emo kind of stuff, I guess.
Yeah, yeah, dude.
but yeah what a great guitar we have to do that little
I know man that's just great
yeah I was trying to decide if I wanted to just keep this song for end of year
yeah but there's a few more songs from here that I'll probably
keep in my back pocket for the best of for the year
so that's gonna be two years in a row dude wish she's gonna make it on my best of
yeah man solid solid group um so trap dude we haven't uh
haven't done one of these watch yourards in a while
It's been a while, did.
We've been busy.
Let's hope that you all fell in love with Mitchell, our good friend.
And I think he did a phenomenal job, man.
I think he was great.
Really?
Yeah, he was a great voice to have on in the show.
Yeah.
I mean, like I said, he speaks the same language that we do, both, you know, musically and
just, you know, same sense of humor.
In fact, it's possible to you that my sense of humor was shaped many moons ago.
you know, by hanging out with Mitch, you know.
Yeah, for sure, dude.
Absolutely.
Those are impressionable years, you know.
Yeah.
And he was like the cool older kid, you know, that we hung out.
Slightly older.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I think we kind of talked about this.
You know, he might show up more often on this show.
And he might even become the guest host while you're tending to the newborn.
which...
Yeah, so that's the other segue
we should go into.
Let me just say this.
I guarantee you,
by the time this episode drops,
I will be a new dad.
There's no doubt in my mind
she's going to be born
before we drop this episode.
Are you trying to say
that I'm extremely slow
at editing episodes, Q?
That it's imminent.
No, no, no.
I'm saying that she's coming early,
dude.
She's for sure coming early.
We're already seeing,
like Sarah's already seeing
the pre-labored.
stages, which can last for days, and they can come and go where it's like not just the,
you know, the false Brexton pigs. So she could be born during the recording of this episode
Q. What, you mean like right now? Right now, man. If that happens, brother, I was going to say,
I'm not going to finish recording this. What, you're not going to stay here and finish?
I let her just go to the hospital. Yeah, that's a good idea. Man, we can't stop once you started.
Dude, bring the microphone with you. Like, do you have one of those like,
you know those one of those field mics yeah yeah bring it with you handheld mics yeah so we could
finish and we can have her say welcome to no filler you know like i'll have i'll have my daughter say
it on the way out exactly that'll be your first words anyway yeah that's exciting man and you guys
you guys moved into your new house got a new house with a massive awesome backyard i can't
remember if you guys to see it bigger house for the family i guess that's news too q i i will
officially be seeing your face face to face in real life in August. I'm going to come visit you
with my wife. Take it. I'm going to be on that sweet, sweet paternity leave, dude. That's right, man.
I'm going to hang out with the new niece. My first niece. I'm excited. That's a big. I got, dude,
I got nephews every which way I turn. I know, dude. I know. I'm tired of it, man. Yeah,
She's going to be spoiled like crazy, dude.
Yeah.
And I think she's going to be coming out like one of them cabbage patch kids, dude.
I think she's going to be a...
What cute little chubby baby?
Okay, I was like, I didn't know what that meant.
But, okay, now I see.
Okay.
Chubby cheeks.
Got it.
She's measuring big at her, at the stage.
Sarah's at 37 weeks, which is full term.
But, you know, most babies don't pop out until 40 weeks.
But she's, yeah, she's measuring big, so I think she's ready.
She's like, can I get out now?
I'm done.
I'd like to get out of this womb.
Well, she, yeah, she saw that new backyard.
She's like, let me get, come on now.
Let me out of here.
And then you were on vacation, dude.
I was, yep.
Where did you guys go?
The old watering hole, Q, Gulf Shores, Alabama.
That was what you guys did, okay.
Yeah.
The annual trip.
It was a good time.
Layed out on the beach.
Nice.
Nothing.
Had some amazing seafood.
So, yeah, we've been busy, Q.
So now we're back.
This is our first watcher heard of drop.
Now we're back.
And just, yeah, to bring it back, bring it all back around to good old Mitchie.
Yeah, we've asked him to step in over the next month or so while I'm, you know, dipping my toes and new fatherhood.
This is my second go around at it.
But, you know, it's going to be tough.
I'm going to be taking care of my toddler.
All right, key, well, this is our what you heard.
It's been a while since a full-length what-you-herd dropped.
I had a, just a quick little, you know, pull the emergency hatch type of an episode that I put out before the Kings of Leon episodes came out just to have something in the feed because it had been a while.
And it was like a two song, Whatcha heard.
So I'm not really going to count that.
But, you know, since I technically shared some What You heard tunes within the last month, I think it's proper for you to go first, Q.
All right, dude.
And I think I've, I think we've mentioned this on the podcast.
Ronan is, knows his way around Spotify nowadays.
And he goes to the, you know, Spotify has like the equivalent of shorts or like whatever,
the equivalent of whatever you call it on TikTok or whatever.
And like, it'll show you similar artists that you can just swipe through the, you know, the shorts.
And it's like, what's that?
Six degrees of Kevin Bacon or whatever.
I swear, I swear, it takes six or so swipes before he's into just straight up awesome like indie rock.
Doesn't matter if he starts out on a kid's song.
I swear, he finds, he somehow finds really cool music.
So this is an artist called Rubble Bucket.
You ever heard of them?
I have not.
I can't tell you how many times I've heard this freaking song, dude, over the last like month and a half.
Because when he likes a song, he obsesses over it.
And he wants you to just play it over and over again.
So the album is Year of the Banana
Came out in 2024.
This is not a kid song, okay?
Here we go.
Again, Rubble Bucket.
This song is called Go All the Way with me.
Stone, silver lining need to know, glorifying, looking for you my whole life.
Stops, plant tops, kamikaze, mom and pops.
Are we going to do this or what?
Facts roaming water, favorite daughter, pointless slaughter, Saturday night.
Mountain tops.
problem and unproblem
and poker dots
and maybe this could be your chance.
So this is
Ronan's new favorite song.
One of them, yeah.
Yeah, dude.
So I would think that Spotify
like the shorts are probably
coming up based on your algorithm.
I would think.
Well, but here's how it works, dude.
I don't know if you've ever tried it out.
I don't know if you can do it on the desktop
version.
But if you're,
so, you know, he's
listening to one of his kid songs, right?
Okay.
It could be a Chuckie.
song, whatever.
There's Chucky Cheese song, like albums on Spotify?
Let me tell you, Jeff.
They ain't, they're saying our Chuck Echee's no more.
Wow.
Well, I'm just, it's kind of funny that there's like, I didn't.
Oh, yeah.
That's funny, dude.
Yeah, some of them are freaking bangers, dude.
Bangers.
Yeah.
Wow, dude.
Chuckie Cheese has an artist page.
Well, yeah, because he's got, like, they have like a big screen in the Chuck
of Cheese now.
And there's songs that play.
It's the same songs you hear at Chuck of Cheese.
I just think it's funny that they,
they throw it on Spotify.
Yeah, yeah.
I was surprised too.
Okay.
If you have the, the song up on your Spotify and you swipe up and you keep scrolling down,
then it'll be, it'll be shorts specific to that song.
Okay.
Well, I can see, I mean, not that that was a kid's song, but I can see how that would be.
Yeah.
You know, in the, you know, in the same orbit of like.
For sure.
Yeah.
And dude, just wait for the next song that I bring that.
Is this, not, it's just Ronan.
picks, Q?
Well, not the whole, not every song that I bring tonight, but a couple of them, yeah, dude, because
yeah, like I hear him a lot.
Sure, sure.
Dude, you know what else is on here now?
Video killed the radio star.
Okay.
Another one bites the dust.
Classics, right?
Classics.
I'm forced to listen to Guns and Roses now, dude.
Oh, dude, you got to put a stop to that real quick.
No, that's okay.
I'll allow it.
I mean, what's not?
What are we talking?
We're talking, sweet child.
To the jungle.
And sweet child of mine.
Okay.
All right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's fine.
You know, we all, we all have to be introduced to the classics, right?
For sure.
We all, we all listen.
Yeah.
Sure.
It happens.
It's fine.
Q.
You got to start.
What did you think of the song, dude?
Do you like it?
It was okay.
Yeah.
It was right.
Very, you know.
I thought the same.
It's what I've been heard, you know?
Yeah.
You're not lying.
Well, I'm going to change things up quite a bit.
Okay.
Let's do that.
Yeah.
These songs that I bring in tonight were not.
were not picked by a toddler, although I did spend a week on the beach with a six-year-old.
So it could have happened, but...
I don't think that's a toddler anymore.
No, he's not.
What is?
Six-year-old's just a kid, I guess.
So he's my nephew, one of my many nephews, his name is Silas, and he is into the divas, dude.
He loves Beyonce.
He loves Lady Gaga.
He loves the other ones.
Anyway.
So, yeah.
Not going to be bringing a track from his playlist.
I'm sure he has one.
So I'm going to take us back to 1968.
It's been a while since we've...
Hang on.
This isn't coming from...
This is coming from Silas?
It's not.
No, no, no.
Okay.
Okay, you just brought it up because you were hanging out.
Yeah, I was just saying that it was possible that I had brought a child-picked song
because I had spent some time with a child.
Can't you?
But no, it's not happening.
This group has a very, very well-known song that anybody would know.
You know the song Inagata DeVita?
Never heard of it.
Yes, of course.
Well, so I was like, yeah, what else do these guys do?
Because I don't know why, Q, but I, sometimes I just want to seek out more songs from that era that featured an organ prominently.
I don't know why.
But every time I hear the doors, I'm like, man, I want that.
It's such a dope sound to mix in with rock, like psychedelic especially.
So these guys apparently do it.
And I listen to their first record.
It's got an amazing album art.
Here, let me show it to you.
Oh, dang.
I mean, it's fucking dope, dude.
Oh, that's an ear.
He's sitting on an ear, bro.
It's awesome.
They're up in space or something on a planet.
So that must have been like, it looks like it was like the ruins of a giant statue.
This is black lights and lava lamps and all that stuff, man.
and the song especially.
Here we go.
This song, again,
oh, I didn't even,
yeah, I didn't even mention the band.
Iron Butterfly is the band.
Again, this is from 1968
off of their debut record heavy.
This song is called Unconscious Power.
To prepare,
it's incomplete freedom of the
cessation of us,
you will see
everything.
Notches power.
If that's not about
psychedelic,
drug usage.
Oh, yeah.
I don't know what it's about.
I mean, again, just look at the cover.
That is not, there's no, yeah, the unbelievable is going to happen.
It will linger in your mind forever.
Releasing complete freedom of thought.
Triggering the unconscious power?
Come on.
This is the 60s, man.
LSD, dude, for sure.
Or maybe peyote.
You know, one of those.
Turn on, tune in, drop out.
You know what I mean?
That's right.
That's right.
Who said that?
That one guy.
Timothy Leary.
I just looked it up.
Yeah, that's right.
I just looked it up.
But yeah, I just, I am a sucker for that.
I want, I might just go on a deep dive and just try to try to find obscure 60s psychedelic like that, man.
Yeah, I just do it.
There's something about that, that organ sound, dude.
And just the fuzzy overdrive guitars and the nice harmonies there and the vocals.
that I thought was pretty, pretty cool.
But anyway, Iron Butterfly, unconscious power off of their 1968 record, heavy.
Because, you know, they were heavy, you know.
I think back in the 60s, wasn't that like a slang for like, cool, like heavy?
He's heavy, man.
Oh, he's heavy, man.
Yeah.
Anyway, all right, Q, what's next on Ronan's playtime jams?
I'm not, no, no, no.
I mean, I'm going to switch it up.
Okay.
I think I'm going to stick in the same era because it just happened to have a song from 1970.
Okay.
Now, let me tell you something, Trav.
Tell me.
I've been meaning to listen to this album for a long time.
Okay.
Long time.
I still haven't listened to it.
Have I listened to it?
Maybe.
All Things Must Pass by George Harrison.
Nope.
Yeah.
It's one of those albums where it's like, it shows up on so many lists.
And there's just so many great songs on it.
My Sweet Lord.
I freaking love that song, dude.
You know that one?
Come on, you know that one.
I do not.
My sweet Lord, I'm sure I've heard.
I really want to see you.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
I've heard that in my life, yeah, sure.
Yep, yep.
Well, the next track on the album appeared on, you know, in the, you know, in the chat, the message boards.
No one calls it to me.
You just dated yourself big time, dude.
I'm trying to the Red of the threads and I've read it thread
So when you read it did you did you sign the guest book? Yeah did I sign the guess
Yeah the do you remember that guess book? Do you remember that they used to have guest books on websites did
Yeah that's right I just remember the the page view the page view counters yes man
And you could pick like the really cool you could pick like the really cool fonts for the page counters
The internet used to be fun man
now it's all just copy and paste from the last every every website looks exactly same like
hollywood right it's just spewing out the same old same old yes but dude i'm i'm i'm i'm sensing
that um like the the minimalism flat design and stuff it's it's going it's on its way out
which i'm excited dude remember when like fast food joints used to look freaking cool yeah i do
Unique.
Yes.
Taco Bell looked like we were, we stepped into Mexico, dude.
Yeah.
Dude, McDonald's now just looks like a, just a square, a cube.
It's a gray cube.
Why?
Anyways, yeah, dude, I was on the message boards.
And someone mentioned that this song, Wawa by George Harrison,
kind of has just a hint of shoegaze.
Well, we'll just see about that, won't we, Q?
We'll see about it.
Yep, we sure well.
Here we go.
This is Wawa from George Harrison's 1970 record,
All Things Must Pass.
Yeah, I can see it for sure.
I mean, I can hear it, I should say.
Where's the shoe goes in that?
Well, it's, it's got to be, it's got,
it's the fuzziness of the guitar.
That's it.
Well, I mean, and the little bit of the, like the,
the melody a little bit and like the, it's not,
there's no, I mean, this is like,
the early
Shugays,
dream pop type stuff
almost a little bit.
Maybe.
It's not my bloody Valentine,
but it's more like
maybe some of the early...
I think we're grasping the stress.
Well, you know what?
We're trying to agree with Reddit here,
which is...
It's a random...
Reditor.
Yeah, we're trying.
That comment just led me to this song.
Yeah, I can see a little bit
where this person is coming from,
but I think, like you said,
I think it's a little bit of a stretch.
Yeah.
But anyway.
But, you know, solid track.
I've always loved George here.
He might be one of my favorite.
Might be, I think he's up there between McCartney and George.
Sure.
They're my two favorite Beatles songwriters.
Yeah, of course.
I mean, there's only two other ones, too.
Well, linen can suck it.
I mean, I like linen songs.
I'm over linen.
All right.
That's fine.
And you can't, I mean, and then there's Ringo.
And I mean, she's just, you know, everyone loves Ringo.
There's no competition with Ringo.
He's in a whole other level.
Octopus's Garden.
Dude, come on now.
Sure.
Get hired with a little help from your friends.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
So yeah, dude, let's pass it on to you and let's rampant fire this, dude.
All right, Q.
If you listened to my What You Heard episode that I put out, you may know that a new
stereo lab album came out.
Yes, I actually didn't listen to the.
the song. I wanted to listen to it in full. I haven't listened to the album.
Unbelievable record. We already bought tickets to see them in November. It's going to be great.
Anyway, so I didn't realize this, Q, but the lead singer of Stereo Lab, her name is Leticia
said, I'm probably going to mispronounce. She's like French. Latisha Sadeer.
Well, she put out some solo records throughout her days. And so, of course, I listened, because I
absolutely love her vocals, and I was blown away by this record.
So this came out in 2010.
This album is called The Trip.
So this is a cover that they did of a track off of a 1969 record going back to the 60s.
This record, or this group called Wendy and Bonnie, who I'd never heard it before.
But anyway, so Letitia did a cover of one of their songs off of their only record that they put out called Genesis.
But here we go.
So this song is called By the Sea.
Solid, man.
Really, really good.
Awesome harmonies.
That was a cover?
Yeah.
I mean, I could play the, yeah, I'll play the original as our outro.
For the, for the outro, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
It's, and here's what's great about it, dude.
They actually kind of picked up the tempo and did some really cool things with the cover.
So, like, when you hear the original, it's a lot more softer tempos slowed down.
But aside from that, it's, so.
still a pretty faithful cover, but they put their own stamp on it, which is great.
Nice.
So anyway, that was, again, that was Letitia Sadiere.
That was off for 2010 record, The Trip.
That song was called By the Sea.
And I'm going to pass it back to you for Rapid Fire Q.
All right, dude, believe it or not, this one's coming from Ronan.
Really?
And is, yeah, this is another one where, like, I seriously was like, who is that?
And I said, I said, please, could you hand me the phone, son?
And I added it to this playlist right away.
Wow, I rank you.
So is this by, is this by Mickey Mouse or is it by what other mascots are there out there?
Is this stick?
I was waiting for you to crash and burn there, dude.
Stick stickly.
You want to talk about aging us again?
Come on now.
P.O. Box 963.
New York City, New York State.
101.
10108.
Yeah.
Come on.
Dude, I think that's etched into every single.
If you watched Nickelodeon as religiously as we did, yes.
It's there in the depths and we just pulled it out for you.
It's a dude.
It's right there at the surface for me.
I don't have to dig very far.
That's true.
But, you know.
All right.
So this is a song by a group called O and the Mo.
That's an awesome name.
Oh and the Mo.
Oh, O and the Mo.
Yeah.
That's great.
Yep.
And would have never heard this song if it didn't just somehow sneak its way into, you know,
my son's thumbs.
His little swipy swipes.
His little swipes.
Found this song.
So this is Oh and the Mo.
Actually, you know what, dude?
This is a brand new song, 2025.
Wow.
The album's called Make Way for the Sun, and this is the title track.
Here we go.
Solid track, Q.
Thanks, Ronan.
I like, I had some.
men I trust
vibes a little bit?
Yes, yep, for sure, with the vocals.
Yep.
Yep, yep, yep.
Yeah, dude.
I mean, there's going to be plenty more of this
coming down over the next decade,
20 years, 30 years.
He's going to be sharing lots of good tunes
with his old man.
This is how we're going to stay young and youthful.
That's right, you have kids, right?
Yep, that's right.
Yeah.
He's going to be our
or he's going to be the finger on our pulse our lifeline to the new and wacky stuff that's coming out
oh dude i can't wait to hear what the kids are going to be saying when he becomes when he's
teenage years dude i can't wait to hear i mean that's the thing dude i mean the lingo from when we grew
up might be full circle back popular again you know you never know dude i hope not man we said some
dumb stuff that's true that's very talk to the hand
I don't know if I ever said that in my own life.
I don't either, but that was, I'm pretty sure that came from our generation.
Probably.
Or maybe, that may have been a Gen X thing.
But anyways, either way.
Pretty bad.
No, thanks.
Pretty bad.
Yeah.
Pretty bad.
Yeah.
Anyways, dude, rapid fire.
Pass it to you.
All right, Q, what did you get?
It's just kind of apologize in advance.
But it's time for some progressive metal.
But I think you're, I say this every time.
I think you're going to like this one.
I would put this in the same vein as Mastruga, and I'm sorry.
Oh, God, dude.
But just spare with me here, yeah, okay?
There's one track on this record that does not have any of the stuff that you typically don't like with this type of metal.
And I think you're going to appreciate it because I think it's sort of in the vein of like a cave-in type space rock type metal.
As in specifically...
Antenna.
Specifically antenna from KVN.
Exactly.
All right.
So this song...
That's exciting, dude.
Yeah, you're about to be...
I should I play this song first, Q?
Yeah.
It's a peek behind the curtain all over here.
Yeah, we already played one, and I mean, it was just lights out, dude.
Just lights out.
That's the name of the song, and that's what happened.
I saw your eyes roll back.
Indeed.
You passed out for a second.
So, yeah, we do that from time to time, guys and gals and days.
days and dames.
And I anticipated having to do this.
So here we go.
The song is called gratitude.
Yeah, dude.
I liked it.
There we have it.
I liked it.
I think that's a first.
Yeah.
I think maybe Kavan could have gone a little bit more heavy and done it that,
gone that route.
Well, I think there are Kavan records where he does sing like that.
Oh, there is.
Definitely.
But I'm saying, I think, I think antenna would have been even more compelling.
And now, yeah, now we're just talking about Kavan.
Yeah, sure.
That was one of our favorite albums of that.
2000s, yeah.
Decade.
Yeah.
Yeah, I liked it.
I liked the juxtaposition.
Yeah.
Well, they definitely, yeah, on this track, the back and forth of the nice vocal harmonies with the screaming dude.
Yeah, which is, you know, we've talked about that with like how we really, really liked that with Emory's The Weeks and that emo band.
I mean, that's, I know that's out of the left field, but I'm just saying like that.
We've talked about that with me without you.
Like the, you know, it's like the Pixies loud, quiet, loud, or whatever, that paradigm, which is, it was just cool.
But anyway, the rest of the record does not sound like that, as you heard with the first track I played.
But I thought that it was interesting.
So, yeah, the band's called Carbom.
They're really doing some really interesting stuff with progressive metal.
So if you like that kind of thing, listen to them if you like Musuga.
They're a little bit different, but same vein.
All right, Q.
I know we've got another 180 coming our way here.
No, dude, here's what's happening.
And this is not a real what you heard.
Or not a little, yeah.
But, and I just checked on our feed.
I have not brought this band in the history of this pod.
And I've been sitting on it, dude.
Just wondering when.
When's going to happen?
I don't know if you remember this group, dude.
But this is one of those email bands from the, you know, from the early 2000s.
because I was listening to this in high school that just stuck with me because they're so
different.
To Kane Hodder?
And like, yes, dude.
Dude, you know what's funny?
I didn't know who Kane Honor was when I first heard that band.
That's the guy that plays Jason.
Jason, right?
Yeah.
So anyway, now I appreciate the name of that band even more, Q.
Well, I'm bringing a song from the only album of Kane Hodders that I ever listened to.
Sweet.
I'm pumped to because I haven't heard this in, in, in, 24.
20 years probably.
They're so, yeah.
Okay.
So this is an album from 2004.
Hello.
We were what?
Dude, sophomores?
20 years.
We were sophomores.
Yeah.
In high school when this came out.
Yeah, the song, the album is called The Pleasure to Remain So Heartless.
This song is called Too Much Eddie Kendricks.
Not enough David Ruffin.
Here's Eddie Kendricks.
Dude, I remember you singing that opening book.
and be like, dude, you're gonna, are you hearing this?
Like, that's kind of what, like that kind of, like, the energy that you gave off and like when you showed me that song of it.
Yeah.
And, dude, I remember there was a time where our dad, God bless him, would let us commandeer the car stereo.
And he stomached this bullshit.
Dude, I, I, I thought, I thought, dad, you're going to love this.
Yeah, I'm sure he was confused
This was one of the albums that I played
But I remember
Coming off of that
Carbomb song
I mean yeah, they're definitely related
They're in the same
There's somewhere
You know, not too far off
In the tree of rock music
You know
Right, right
But these guys were all over the place dude
Yeah, well that's
That little like
Sly guitar solo at the end
It was really interesting
Yeah
So I looked at up
Yeah
Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin are both singers from the group, The Temptations.
So I guess he's saying that he would, he prefers David Ruffin when he used to sing lead over Eddie Kendricks.
Too much Eddie Kendricks.
Not enough David Ruffin.
Yeah.
For sure, dude.
That's what I always say.
That's, yeah.
Duh.
Yeah, that's great, man.
You finally, you picked a good time to play it, I think.
Yeah.
And that's the only, that's it.
that's the last time I'll ever play CaneHander on this podcast, that's for sure.
Perhaps for the rest of your life.
And that could go for all podcasts for the rest of time.
Yeah.
Maybe no one else will ever play a Kanehander song.
That's a good point.
You heard it here.
All right.
You heard it here.
First and last.
All right, dude.
Pass it back to you.
What do you got?
All right.
I'm going to, you know, make us proper again by playing a fantastic.
amazing tune by a band that we all know Q. We all know these guys because they came out with the
song Bittersweet Symphony talking about the Verve. Oh yeah, dude. What a freaking song. If you don't
know that song, you do. One of the best songs out of the 90s, right? I agree. 100%. So I've been
listening to their first two records quite a bit. I actually have enough songs picked out to do a deep
dive episode, but I couldn't sit on this track any longer. So we're going to listen to it.
This is an incredible song, man. It's off of their 1995 record and Northern Soul. You're about
to get blown away at Q. I'm ready. I'm ready. Here we go. This song is called Life's and Ocean.
The bass line, dude, killer. So today, just kind of drift away after Bittersweet Symphony.
Was it, were they like a one-hit wonder kind of band? Yes. I mean, I think they're definitely considered
that people stop paying attention to them after that huh i mean i just think that they that that song
was such a massive hit that like anything everything else i put out just it never never reached the heights
right but like their very first record is very dreamy and shoegazing almost very very you know
dream pop textures and and then that record that the record that i just played a track from a northern
soul they kind of you know they went in some different places like that was
that had a little bit of a, I don't know, like a bluesy vibe almost.
A little bit.
It's kind of soulful.
I mean, his voice is incredible.
And that's, you know, that's showcased in Bitter's Sweet Symphony for sure.
But like incredible songwriter, amazing vocalist.
And yeah, has the band behind him.
And they're just, yeah, solid, man.
I liked all the textures in that song.
Yeah, it was great.
It was really good.
So this was one record before.
Yes.
Urban hymins were bittersweet.
Yeah, 1997, the opening track to Urban Hymns has a billion, over a billion plays on Spotify.
That song I just played has four million, which is nothing to, yeah, nothing to cry about.
Turn your nose up to, but not exactly a billion.
All right, Keough, that was the verve.
That was called Life's an Ocean off of their 1995 record, A Northern Soul.
I'm going to throw it back to you.
I think, is this your last pick?
That's my last pick.
All right.
So I wanted to do a deep dive on this album, and we just didn't end up doing it.
Yeah, this is Emma Anderson, Jav.
Ring a Bell?
It does ring a bell.
Co-founder of Lush.
Okay.
Yes, she put out a new record, right?
Her new EP or something like that?
It's a couple years old now.
Okay, right.
Yeah, a couple years old now.
Oh, that's right.
So the other singer from Lush put out some new stuff this year.
I don't remember her name.
Mickey.
Mickey.
Mickey Berrini.
Berrini.
Yeah, yeah.
She's also of lush,
and she's put out some EPs,
some singles this year.
So anyway, go on.
Yeah, we were kind of sticking in the,
in the shoegaze vein a little too much,
and we only do six deep dives a year or less.
That's right.
Depending on, you know.
So, yeah, I steered away from it.
But this album's solid, man, really great.
It's called Pearleys.
It came out in 2023.
We're going to play,
track two from the record.
The song is called Bend the Round.
Dude, amazing song.
I've been listening to Lush a lot this year.
And yeah.
Lush, yeah, I love Lush.
Lush is great, man.
So it's, you know, clearly she had some say
and the song writing for Lush, you know what I mean?
You can tell.
Oh, yeah, dude.
By the way, she structures the melody and stuff.
I'm pretty sure Robin Guthrie
lended a hand on this one.
Ooh, okay.
He was on, he was part of
that two. Cockto Twins.
Yeah, yeah.
That makes me even more interested in the record.
Guthrie's one of my favorite, like, ambient guitar players, dude.
But he encouraged her to start actually, like, getting into a studio,
going into a studio and record.
Because she had all these songs, you know,
just bits and pieces of music that was originally intended for Lush.
And Robin Guthrie and string arranger Audrey Riley,
not sure who that is, both encouraged her to sing her own songs.
So they basically, like, pushed her to, hey,
start doing some solo stuff.
It didn't even like dawn on me that like, well, yeah, I bet you cocto twins and lush.
I'll bet you they've probably were on the same bill quite a few times.
They probably been on, yeah, exactly.
They probably, they might even be on the same record label.
I don't even know off the top of my hand, off the top of my dome.
But yeah, that's, yeah, they would be acquaintances at the very least, you.
If not, old friends, you know.
But yeah, Guthrie, I love Guthrie's solo stuff.
It's some of the best, some of the best, like, Anne.
ambient guitar. He just has this tone that nobody else has his, his tone, just drenched in
reverb. But yeah, anyway, all right, cute. Yeah, dude. I'm going to close us out with a,
with just a positive, upbeat, fun song. The name of this band is called Good, Sad, Happy, Bad,
which is kind of funny, you know, because that's not too dissimilar from Do Make Say Think,
which is another band that we like.
Hmm. Yeah.
Same kind of idea, right?
But anyway, I'm just going to let the song speak for itself.
So this is off their 2020 record Shades.
This song is called Honey.
I mean, dude, just stick it in my vein.
Shoot it right up.
Maybe that's a little harsh to put it that way.
But, yeah, dude, I will always, always love that kind of stuff.
The, like, 60s, yeah, yeah, whatever, yee, yee,
I hate it.
I hate saying it.
Little Tweed,
little Tweed pop.
Throw some of that in there.
I will always love that stuff.
When,
when,
like,
contemporary bands,
like,
decide to just take that style
and run with it
and make it their own.
Or even just,
like,
faithfully copy it.
And I say that in a nice way.
Sure.
I love it,
dude.
I will always love it.
I will always,
always love it.
That was great.
Just as,
That was freaking awesome.
Straight forward,
straightforward little pop song.
Yeah,
loved it.
Perfect.
Perfect, yeah.
All right.
Well,
that's how we're going to end
this episode.
So,
yeah,
we don't know,
cute,
this might be the last time
we hear your voice
for a month or so,
maybe.
Probably,
dude.
Probably.
But,
I mean,
I do,
I do recall you telling me
that you'd have no problem
recording.
Because it's just going to be
you and Ronan
hanging out.
So,
you know,
just put them on the mic,
you know,
that'll be great.
You know, that's called babysitting.
Watching your kid, he just put, give him, give him his own microphone.
And he can chime in every once in a while.
That's fun for the whole family.
That would be hilarious, man.
Yeah.
And, yeah, he's, I mean, he's smart enough.
He would probably, uh, he'd probably know what to do.
You think so?
No.
He could hit the, uh, anytime you cough or he can hit the mute button for you.
There we go.
Or sneeze or whatever it is you do over there.
Oh, I cough and sneeze, dude.
Yep, that's stuff I do.
We all do.
We'll see, dude. We'll see. We'll see. But, hey, I think, yeah, I think we need to run with the idea of getting Mitchell on. I think that's a great idea. If he's, you know, I don't want to put any undue burden on him, you know, but I know he expressed interest in appearing more frequently. So he would be a great standard, I think. So, and you know what, dude, we could, we could, we already talked about this. We would like to do an episode on Kings of William. I'm not going to.
to the Stone Age with him.
Now see, I would like to be a part of that, brother.
Don't do that without me.
Well, don't be having kids, thank you.
Too late.
I'm just saying that would be a great episode for us to do me and him together,
but I guess we can wait for your ass.
What we should do is do our, do some metal episodes while you're out.
Yeah, dude, get him in while you can.
See how many followers are we lose.
Yeah.
Gained, dude.
We're only gaining.
Or, obviously, I could let him school me on country music.
Don't leave me out of the party, dude.
I want to be a part of the country party.
Okay.
Don't leave me out of that.
Then I think, yeah, I feel like we have to do metal then because those are the only episodes you wouldn't mind missing out on.
All right.
Well, anyway, like I said earlier, I'm going to close us out with the original song by Wendy and Bonnie that Leticia Sadiere covered called By the Sea.
Came out in 1969 of their record Genesis.
You could find us on the Pantheon podcast network.
Of course, you can follow their main feed and get all of our episodes when I feel like posting
them on their channel, I should say, because sometimes I don't. Also, just a reminder,
if you have other ways of consuming podcast content outside of Spotify, we would recommend
that you listen to our show on anything but Spotify.
To drop in our episodes, dude, like hotcakes, right on the griddle, dude.
You know, the workaround would be if I edit the episode again and just like removed the
songs that that they are flagging for copyright.
It's like, I don't want to do that.
So you can, that's the thing.
You can hear the songs intact.
You can hear the episodes intact on pretty much any other podcast platform.
I'm not going to, I'm not going to edit it just to satisfy one platform.
You know what I'm saying?
No.
So anyway.
Also reach out to us on Instagram.
if you have some episode, some music you'd like us to listen to,
albums you'd like us to cover, songs that you've been digging lately,
you know, just drop us a note on Instagram.
All right.
Well, until then, Q,
why don't you give my love to my new niece?
I'm sure she's, she might be, she might exist right now, Q has this episode,
uh, it's dropped.
Yeah.
Once it airs, I think so, dude.
Yeah, that's exciting.
That's pretty, pretty cool.
Yeah, dude.
All right.
I'm still not going to say her name.
Not on this episode, dude.
Not even though she might be born at this.
She may have already been born by the time this drops.
You still not get in her name.
Okay.
Now, once I share it with the family, you can share it with the pod family in my absence
draft if you want to.
Okay, I will.
Maybe I will.
Yeah, I can't wait to meet Adele.
No.
Is that her name?
No, dude.
Okay.
It's Beyonce, okay?
There.
I, yeah.
I can't wait to meet Rianan.
Rianan?
Rianan?
Like, we like Fielwood Mac.
Uh, nope.
All right, it's fine.
Uh, all right.
Well, thanks as always for listening.
My name is Travis.
And I'm Quentin.
Y'all take care.
Five and a C.
