And then you end up feeling some type of way when people don't take your wisdom that's, that's like, because one thing that I noticed about younger dudes is that they always think that there's an alternative, how do you say it? Alternative motive for what you're saying.

Starting point is 00:02:23 So you give them some advice and then they think that you're actually trying to put them in a position where you can make more money off them. Yeah, they go do the complete. opposite. Thinking that a just like on some industry shit, you know? Right.

Starting point is 00:02:38 And that's the first thing I tell all the homies, like younger homies or people that are coming into the business at the beginning. I'm like, look, dog, I'm on.

Starting point is 00:02:46 Like, I'm good financially, you know? Like, I don't, I'm not doing nothing that I'm doing because I want a percentage or because Benji's right. Or because I want to, you know,

Starting point is 00:02:58 I want a profit off of it. You feel me? Like, I'm just giving you the game that, that I've learned thus far and how I was taught to do things like you hand down the jewels,

Starting point is 00:03:07 you hand down the opportunities, you feel what I'm saying? So, but everybody's always, it is understandable though, right? Because there's a lot of snakes in this, right? Mm-hmm. And you tend to see in the game when you're in the game,

Starting point is 00:03:19 like it's always the same flock of vultures hovering around. Mm-hmm. You know what I mean? The landscape might change, but the characters that are behind the scenes are always the same guys, opportunists, you know? Right.

Starting point is 00:03:32 And I know all these dudes already because I've been there done that, you know. So I'll sit with a younger guy and I'll be like, avoid him, him, him, him, him. I leave next day. He's with him, him, him. You know what I'm saying? So then I know the conversation after we had it was like, oh, Bulls are just hating. Or, oh, that fool's old or fool. He'd be on some high power shit.

Starting point is 00:03:53 And it's like, I ain't don't know high power shit. I'm just about my bread. You never met Benji? What's up, man? This is your favorite rapper, Lefty Gunplay's original producer. Oh, okay. He's in your favorite rap. He is the one that mine that diamond.

Starting point is 00:04:06 Wow. You know what I'm saying? I can only imagine what you've seen. When he got out of prison. Oh, you don't know what you've seen. You've probably seen some shit. It's like you're a war vet. I can only imagine.

Starting point is 00:04:17 That's what I thought Lefty was going to do. What? Was like just our streaming. You know what I'm saying? Because his life is so way out. You know what I mean? Yeah. But if I've kind of learned that

Starting point is 00:04:32 from observing this though is that it's like if you live a truly chaotic life meaning you're fighting you're beefing you've got different girls around with you every other day etc and then you choose to be a streamer and like really put that shit out there to the world it just like a lot of times doesn't really work out that good because that lifestyle kind of needs to be kept on the low It don't really need thousands of people. Exposed it too much. Yeah, yeah. And especially with somebody like Lefty, like he's been pretty open about it with the fact that he was, you know,

Starting point is 00:05:09 smoking meth or whatever that shit is. And that shit in particular is like you are advertising where you are at all times and everybody who knows what's going on can kind of tell that you probably have something like that on you. I mean, like Blueface has been swatted a bunch of times. I just watched a video with him getting like put down and laying down on his belly in the middle of the street in a nice suburban neighborhood because they swatted them and called in a kidnapping or some shit like that.

Starting point is 00:05:36 Yeah, streaming something else. You know what I mean? What do you think about streaming? I mean, I think it's dope. As far as like, no, but listen, though. As far as like the window for it. You know, I feel like it's a small window, almost like a cash grab. Okay.

Starting point is 00:05:54 There's different like levels of engagement, meaning like, we all know people who got like a million Instagram followers and they might get like, you know, some pretty like decent views on their reels and shit like that. But it's so easy to watch a reel, right? Like that, like I follow you on Instagram and if you post something, I'm probably going to see it or double tap it or leave a comment or whatever. Streaming is a different thing. I'm going to be real.

Starting point is 00:06:22 If you start streaming, realistically, that's such like a singular thing to sit down and watch the stream. Like I f*** with you, but I'm probably. not going to watch you on stream. I'm going to say way too. You know, and like say, yeah, you follow probably like a thousand people on Instagram. You're not going to go watch almost any of them stream. Like to watch somebody on stream is the most hardcore level of fandom because you can really only do it at once.

Starting point is 00:06:45 Like when you're flicking through TikTok, you might see 20 things in a row before you go put your phone down. You might see a hundred things in a row. But like to really, like, it really is just so crazy when you think about something like Kai Senat having a couple hundred thousand people really. locking in and watching him on stream at any given time so I say all that to say

Starting point is 00:07:06 everybody kind of wants to stream but streaming is the most competitive most difficult thing and I don't think it's for everybody and I think a lot of people would be better off trying to like make dope short form content or make dope 10 minute YouTube videos

Starting point is 00:07:22 or find a way to like do something that's a little bit different as much as people don't like Flacco. Flacco kind of mastered the 10, 15 minute, like news, news reporting, video, commentate on a podcast clip type video, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So he's like the one dude out of the No Jumber universe that kind of took the No Jumper fan base and was like, all right, I'm going to make.

Starting point is 00:07:42 It his own thing. I'm going to make this other kind of content that is kind of like what academics used to do. Yeah. Academics used to do the, like, five minute video telling you about a breaking news story and giving you a bunch of information. Flacco kind of figured out how to do it about, like, more stuff and like make it a little bit longer and shit. But I think that people need to be a little bit more creative with the type of content

Starting point is 00:08:02 that they're going to make because just streaming is tough. With everything, I feel like the minute that somebody comes up with a new idea, like, it's just a bunch of people weighing to copy it, you know what I'm saying? Right. Without really like an approach to it or even a, like you said, an idea of how to like advance it forward, you know what I'm saying, or make some different. I feel like in our culture, dog, the copy and paste. shit is ridiculous.

Starting point is 00:08:28 I feel like Rasa don't got no creativity, bro. Do you feel like that about like the music or the podcast scene or? I feel like the podcast scene. I feel like the movie shit. I feel like the streaming shit. And obviously the rap too, man, to a certain extent. You know what I'm saying? Yeah.

Starting point is 00:08:48 I feel like the younger homies that are rap right now, they got a different delivery and sound, right? But I feel like, I don't know, man. Nobody wants to like like take a risk, you know what I'm saying? Yeah. Nobody wants to be on some Kanye shit and just not give a, let their spirit speak. You know what I mean? Yeah.

Starting point is 00:09:04 I mean, Benji wants to. Benji be trying to hit me with cumbia beats in the studio and shit. And I'm like, whoa. I'm not ready. But I get it though. You feel me? But then, okay, so we've had like 10 years now of like most L.A. rap, black or Mexican, gang gang, basically being like, Draco.

Starting point is 00:09:24 Yeah. Paying by numbers. Yeah, yeah. You know? Yeah. And some people are way different, like, but pretty similar, you know, realistically. There's just so many artists there basically doing the Draco thing. And then, and, you know, Phoenix Flexon is kind of like of like of that lineage because, like,

Starting point is 00:09:40 with Shoreline, I think you definitely see like the Draco influence even early on. They were around him and shit. But like, then Phoenix Flexon comes out and does this weird ass AI, fake British accent, 80s song. And it's like the biggest song that has come from like L.A. street rapper in so long and i feel like the lesson that everybody needs to learn from that on a la street level is bro you need to get weird you need to do some different shit you got to like really like not be scared to do some different shit because if you just keep making the same basic ass shit nobody is going to pay attention this shit is all about getting people's attention yeah

Starting point is 00:10:20 facts yeah so videos at least you know i mean some cool videos i feel like Like I said, I started off with Lefty. Lefty had a guy out of prison when he met me and shit. And we started his whole wave and everything. So I sense like me and Lefty, I feel like a lot of Latino rappers been coming out. The New Wave is like a lot of these kids are like, before was a lot of black kids, I feel like. But now I feel like we open the door for like a lot of Latino rappers now. So now the new wave, like all these new rappers I see coming are all like Mexican kids

Starting point is 00:10:46 and shit, Latino kids, you know what I mean? And they don't sound as Chicano as it did back when he was like, you know, in his day and shit. I think it's got a little bit more swagged up now. You know what I mean? to an extent i think shit's changed but as far as hip-hop though we're still late you're so you're late we're late yeah we're late to the party like we're just you know we're we're fans that try to turn into um artists you know what i'm saying and then we're not artists trying to make fans you feel i'm saying right it's like i i know artists and real artists

Starting point is 00:11:14 that that that are true to their their artistic form like they really don't even give a if anybody likes their shit or not you know what i'm saying and and right now everybody's worried about that being liked. You know, that's the most important thing. Like, I tell people all the time, go look at Post Malone's first video, you know what I'm saying? Weird as shit, you know what I mean? But look at him now.

Starting point is 00:11:35 Right. You know what I mean? He's doing his shit, you know? So, yeah, the art form is like, yeah, we're in quicksand, you know? I mean, it's a weird situation where, like, in L.A., if you go to any given rap show, realistically, it's probably majority Mexican fans. Hell yeah, for sure.

Starting point is 00:11:51 But then, meanwhile, you haven't really had, like, a national Mexican rapper from L.A. Really break out of L.A. Like, even the biggest names, really, like, you can't even put them, like, side by side with the biggest black rappers out of L.A. With some notable, you know, people who have, like, obviously done their thing and everything,

Starting point is 00:12:10 but it's just still, it feels like it's just harder to make the audience really want to latch on to a Mexican rapper. And you wonder, like, who's going to be the one to, like, really fully, 100% breakthrough. I don't think it's ever going to happen, do you don't think? No.

Starting point is 00:12:27 I think that the racial divide is too, is too much of an issue, you know? Like, I feel like, every culture wants their, every culture has this mentality, like they want their guy on. Does it make sense? It's like generations when you have the conversation,

Starting point is 00:12:44 who's better, Kobe or MJ. Right. You know, people want their guy to shine. So it's more marginal now. Like, I feel like everybody's rooting for hometown heroes. Like, who's the biggest rapper out right now? Well, yeah, that's the problem is that there's so few mega stars now at this point. And even the ones who are like kind of megastars, like a NBA young boy or a Playboy Cardi,

Starting point is 00:13:10 I mean, I'm going on a limb and say you probably do not know a Playboy Cardi or an NBA Young Boy song. You know, it's like, but those are like the biggest rappers that you can name from the current generation. which is just so different than like in 1995, it was just like you could be a rap fan who did not give a about Biggie and Tupac and Jay-Z etc. And I'm sorry, you just had to know the songs because like what the fuck else are you listening to? Like you listen to the radio, you watch MTV.

Starting point is 00:13:40 It's like you just knew all the same artists. And now like so many people crawl off into their own little category. The industry's in the same place. They don't really know which way, what direction are going. I said give it 10 years. I said give it 10 years. Like I said, this whole Latino wave just started. In 2016, 17, Cardi and the Playboy, you know,

Starting point is 00:13:57 Uzi and all them now is that wave. And the Mexican-Latina Wave was not here. So give this shit 10 more years. And I promise, like, these people right now are spawning out like crazy. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. All right, give it 10 years and shit, we'll see where all they're at. But I feel like it can't happen.

Starting point is 00:14:10 It's all about... I feel like this is what's happening. Right now it hasn't happened yet. Like, the whole thing is it's like... It just needs to be the dude. Like, it just needs to be like the one. special chosen dude who can just be a superstar. Like when you look at Drake and it's like there was a thousand rappers who tried to make

Starting point is 00:14:30 it from Toronto as rappers before him, right? And then he just like was the one. He's just like he's like a crazy rapper. He's a good singer. He's a good looking guy. The people like him. He's charming and whatever. Like he was just the one.

Starting point is 00:14:41 And it's like I feel like that's just what is going to have to happen to have like an L.A. Mexican kid just like become the dude, you know? It's tough. Yeah, it is tough because like I, you know, I'm an artist, so I see, I read comments and I read, you know, I see bloggers and everything. And I just feel like the music is just so divided. You know, when hip-hop was hip-hop, I feel like everybody was on hip-hop. You know what I mean?

Starting point is 00:15:06 Right. And that was a community. Now, like social media has, has divided everybody even in hip-hop. Like, okay, if there was a Drake of the L.A. Rasa. the rap scene. It's like, would the, the climate even allow him to be great? That's what I'm saying. Or would they bog him down with controversies and bullshit and whatever to the point

Starting point is 00:15:35 where if this dude really was that great musically, like maybe he just wouldn't be like able to express it or have it taken in that way by the fence. He won't be Mexican enough. He won't be American enough. He'll be gangster. Dan, is he gangster enough? Is he not? Yeah.

Starting point is 00:15:50 Like the best thing, the favorite thing for Hispanic people to do is criticize each other. That's even at house parties, bro. You could be in a backyard boogie with your closest relatives, and they're talking about each other. That's just in our nature who the fuck we are. Look at what Canelo said about Ryan Garcia. He says some real shit. Do you hear what he said or no?

Starting point is 00:16:09 They asked them something regarding Ryan Garcia, and Canelo's response was like, he's not Mexican, he's American. And it's a big issue. but why is it an issue? It's true. Ryan was born here. Right. He don't even know Spanish.

Starting point is 00:16:24 Right. So how the fuck is he a Mexican boxer? That's like two different definitions of Mexican. You know, like obviously a person who was born and raised in Mexico thinks differently of a guy who spent his whole life in America. But then in America, if you are a Mexican dude, you're a Mexican dude. We don't give a shit if you were born here or not. Exactly.

Starting point is 00:16:43 Yeah, yeah, yeah. But to the culture it matters. To them especially. Yeah, yeah. It's just like different standards. Everybody has to have every box on the list checked out. And that to me is ridiculous. But I mean, being able to survive and navigate all those pitfalls is kind of like the additional skill set that you need to have if you really want to be like a big artist.

Starting point is 00:17:08 You know, it's like you can't just be good at the music side of things. You also need to know what interviews to do, what not to say in interviews. You know, like we just saw Jack Harlow who's like a huge superstar or whatever. He had his whole album rollout derailed because he said one thing in interview where he said, I got blacker about his music because he did like Neo Soul instead of rap. He said, I got blacker. Boom. That was the whole thing.

Starting point is 00:17:34 The whole album got overshadowed by him saying that one thing. That's f***ed up. And that's a superstar, realistically. Yeah. But that's what this phone did. Yeah. You know, when I first started touring back in days when I was young, with Caponi, I would get out, right, jump out

Starting point is 00:17:51 and want to meet the fans of supporters, you know, and be in the mix. And I would notice that he would never do that shit. That fool would never mingle. That fool would stay in the green room or in the limo, whatever the f***le limos back in the days, you know, or whatever, you know what I'm saying? And then I would ask him like,

Starting point is 00:18:07 A fool, like, how come you don't come out? He'll be like, that's part of being a star, bro. You got to be elusive, you know what I'm saying? Like, you got to be a surprise. Like when you step in the room, It has to come as a shock to people, you know what I'm saying? Like, the friendlier you are, the more exposure people get to you, the more human you become. Right.

Starting point is 00:18:26 And people don't want to glorify human beings. You know what I'm saying? So that, I just think this phone shit is like backfiring everybody. But the minute we fall in love with the artist, we destroy him the next month. But like the real greats are able to just like endure the controversies. Like, you know, somebody like an NBA young wear or a playboy carty that I just named. absolutely crazy legal situations you know accusations a hidden girls for both of them you know and it just didn't really if the fans like them it just doesn't matter it doesn't matter yeah you might

Starting point is 00:19:01 not be able to get like an apple deal or whatever but like you know you can still have a huge fan base so you just have to like kind of i don't know it's like as much as like people get canceled more now it does feel like if you have that real hardcore fan base it just doesn't matter yeah but that's but it does close tons of doors for you hell yeah yeah yeah it closes branding for sure you know what i'm saying so meaning like if you don't grow with your audience then you know i mean it's a short career you know what i'm saying but do you think that the next like do you think that the gang bang and shit and the way that it exists now holds back artists from being able to like be big

Starting point is 00:19:43 though or do you think that that shit is like that's just required that's how it is and doesn't matter I mean it's required. I see, I see that. I see that for, for us, my community, yes.

Starting point is 00:19:54 For other communities, maybe not. Like I said, it's just, it's just a different perspective that people view their artists with in our community, you know what I'm saying?

Starting point is 00:20:02 Why I don't know. Right. You know what I mean? It's like they don't give a fuck about the Dodgers displacing a gang of, you know, immigrants early in the day,

Starting point is 00:20:12 but then they're hollering this and that about Mexican pride. You know what I mean? Like, we're just so contradictory, You know what I'm saying? Like, we don't have a real foundation, dog.

Starting point is 00:20:21 Like, we're united in some aspects, but in the real shit that matters, like financial, you know, cultural, like, we're just not, you know what I'm saying? Like, like, even in politics, like, you know, everything is so divided, you know what I'm saying? Like, because we have generations that just grow up different, you know what I'm saying? Like some grow up super, like traditional Mexican, they grow up, listen to another. nothing but Spanish music, all that. And then you have other generations like mine that we were just all hip hop. You know what I'm saying?

Starting point is 00:20:56 Like we grew up in that era. Like that was just us. Like all hip hip hip hop was everything. You know what I'm saying? So it's just a lot of divide, man. And like you see, um, you see artists from California doing, um, like real Mexican music, right? Blow up bigger than artists that are born here doing American music. Do you get what I'm saying?

Starting point is 00:21:19 Like the JOPs, Fuerza Rehira. Look how big they are. Like, they're from San Bernardino. Right. You know what I mean? So I don't know. I just think like it's a, it's a triggerometry problem, dog. Like too many.

Starting point is 00:21:31 Gangster rap, though. No, I know. But what I'm saying is that that it's, it's like there's so many different aspects of what people want. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like I think for us, like if we're rapping, the gang shit, it's an issue, obviously. We don't, we don't really got to question it. Gangsy rap.

Starting point is 00:21:47 You know, we see it. You know what I'm saying? Especially right now. Gangster rap really. It feels like we've seen its potential. West Coast gangster rap at that. Adelaide gangster rap is a little different because it's more of a trap sound. You know what I mean?

Starting point is 00:21:59 So I feel like the trap sound is more everlasting, blokey, than the West Coast sound a little bit because I feel like the West Coast sound doesn't get to Europe or this as much as that trap sound does. You know what I mean? But what we're trying to implement with this last album was the trap and the West Coast and put it together. You know what I mean? So that's why I feel like we're hitting that.

Starting point is 00:22:17 that medium right now. Yeah, do some mature shit too, you know what I mean? Talk real shit, you know what I mean? Talk everyday life shit, not just exaggerating shit.

Starting point is 00:22:24 Like, I think if you in my shoes for a day, my life is pretty fly, you know what I'm saying? I don't got to make up a lot of shit, you know?

Starting point is 00:22:31 But, okay, that's my question that I wanted to ask before when we were talking about you not really enjoying the rapper shit as much anymore. It's like,

Starting point is 00:22:39 all right, so during your teen years, you're kind of like figuring out who you are. And then I feel like in your 20s, is usually when you're in the period of time, especially if you're kind of adjacent to the rap game or whatever,

Starting point is 00:22:53 that's when you're really doing your thing. You're out there. You're enjoying it. You want to be outside late night, etc. Then all of a sudden, your 30s start rolling in. And at this point is when you're maybe looking like a little bit more critically at what's going on, you know, what this lifestyle really is, whether it's street shit or whether it's rap shit or, you know,

Starting point is 00:23:16 at that point by the time dudes are in their 30s a lot of times they got more than one kid they got a girl that they probably live with or whatever you know and it's like at that point never mind by the time you hit 40 a lot of dudes who are like the types of dudes who are at the rap show backstage hanging out smoking blunts with everybody or whatever those dudes kind of start tapping out usually by the time you get to 40 where being out all night with the homies just don't really like seem as attractive anymore and I feel like you're kind of getting to that point where it's just like like especially you as a dude like working and then having a family and then also trying to like work an extra job basically which is like being in the studio shooting videos

Starting point is 00:24:05 being at shows mingling and being around everybody going to other people's shows just to be on stage and get some face time and shit like that I mean people don't necessarily like give it as much credit as the fact that that you know 30 hours a week bonus rapper time is you know all of a sudden it's like you're you're you're working around the clock and you really usually you have to end up sacrificing like family time and shit like that you know that well that's all I'm at now it's like I've had my family my young family sacrifice a lot for me you know what I'm saying dad not being around you know well my girl my girl was never one of them toxic bras that didn't try to get in the way she was always like go you know what I'm saying

Starting point is 00:24:45 I'm saying. Okay. And I always, you know, you appreciate that right as a man because you see so many fools with toxic ass bitches, you know what I'm saying? We've seen that around here. A lot, right? So, so when you see that, you appreciate it, right? And then you figure I've been out now 10 years from prison, you know what I'm saying? And I've been on a strong run, like consistently grinding, you know what I'm saying? With multiple things, college, school, trade school, work, careers, opening up businesses, being an independent artist, getting signed, like, and then rehabilitating myself, you know what I'm saying? Like, working on myself, you know what I mean? So now it's like I kind of feel selfish now, making my family just revolve around me. Right. You know, my kids,

Starting point is 00:25:27 you know, my daughters are both in jiu-jitsu now. I take them jiu-jitsu, like, how old is out of the week, 7 and 11. Okay. Two kids? I got four. Five. Five. I got an oldest one, too. Oh, shit. And then my son's in soccer, you know, he's in there. So I feel. So I feel, like, I don't know, man, I just feel like I want them to shine now, you feel what I'm saying? And I want to do my corporate shit, you know, like I'm, I'm, I just want to open up businesses, dog. Like, I'm going to, I put myself in a position where I saved enough money, you know, I have enough equity, whether in my catalog or in my personal life that now is the time to do some boss-ass shit, you know what I'm saying? Of course opportunities are coming.

Starting point is 00:26:02 And if they're lucrative, like I just got offered a role in a, um, a TV show for HBO. You know what I'm saying? Really? So, yeah. So I must tap into that, see how that goes, you know what I'm saying? And if it's lucrative, than it is. But if it's one of the things where I got to be, like you said, that guy in the back room hanging out. And, you know, the moves they usually do when you're on your grind, like I'm not doing nothing.

Starting point is 00:26:24 I felt like I've been long enough to where I don't got to trial for shit. You know what it is. And if you want it, then I'm here. Dude, like, when I think about it in the early days, no jumper or even like before no jumper, I would get backstage at a rap show somehow because I was like hanging out with the right guy and all of a sudden I'm like around the rapper and I'm not talking about like rappers

Starting point is 00:26:47 that anybody on earth would give a fuck about right now I'm talking about like you know a 300 person in a warehouse type show I was so geeked to be in that environment around dudes who realistically even then I knew they were not that cool but it was like just to be around

The biggest thing that I'm proud of is that I, through this whole process, right, I grew a family, you feel me? Like, I never was that guy to like, you know, be thirsty over females or or be lay

That's the most important thing that came out of all this shit. Like my family's intact. Not only that, like we've grown. Like my kids are happy. My wife is super intelligent.

Because I feel like it just slows down your progress way too much because, like, I've had that situation multiple times where it's like, it's a Saturday afternoon and my options are hang out with my kid all day and just have, like, this real serene sense of like meaning and fullness or I go to somebody's rap video shoot and realistically if I stream it if I post about it post on Snapchat do all that it's like it's a good look career wise it's like realistically I could make some money off of the

Starting point is 00:30:56 content and everything like that but it's also like more or less I'm doing a meet and greet all day just like having these sort of like surface level conversations. I'm going to meet like 100 people. I'm not going to really remember any of them. I'm going to tap in with the rapper. Talk to him on camera. This is all like very, it's cool, but it's fake as f***. Like this is just we're making content.

Starting point is 00:31:17 You know, it's like I'm basically performing that whole time that I'm out. Yeah, it's not genuine no more. You're not there like how you were back in the days, you know? Like it just gets redundant, bro. And even if I eat it, especially if you're streaming it, bro, even if I eat a sandwich. You can't just like look at your phone and like eat the sandwich.
