Better than most!
better than most expect anything different
ladies and gentlemen welcome back to the no laying up Up podcast. The No Lying Up happy hour presented by our friends at FanDuel episode 1001, I suppose. Welcome to the AonNext 1000.
Excited to be here, my name is DJ,
joined by my friends and associates,
Chris Solly, Sollenberger, Solly, how are you?
Battered, bruised, ego deflated
after a day at Oakmont yesterday,
which we'll talk a little bit about
later. But I'm great. I'm so ready to get dive back into some pro golf after the TPC
Craig James week. I'm excited for this week, Dej.
The guy who never forgets the five, that's big Randy. Randy, how are you, my man?
I'm great, Dej. I'm still buzzing from our time spent on the Bond course at Castle Rock in Northern Ireland.
That was so fun. What a fun trip just all the way around. We're going to have to get a whole podcast
on the books detailing our trip up to Northern Ireland that all of us are still maybe just a
10% jet lag still. I think we're getting over it though. But today we've got a happy hour presented
by our friends at FanDuel. It's no longer presented by FanDuel, whether it's a signature event,
a major or just a Thursday heater, FanDuel's got action on it all.
Randy, we're talking outright winners.
We're talking top tens, round leaders, hole by hole props.
I saw some closest to the pin stuff.
You name it, it's there.
Plus you can fire off a live bet, cook up a parlay,
take advantage of weekly promos like profit boosts.
So download the FanDuel Sportsbook app,
turn birdies into bucks with America's
number one sportsbook.

Solly, I don't know what we're about to get,
but I'm hearing that there's some sort of bet payoff.
Yeah. Well, there was supposed to be a bet payoff.
TC and I had a big match at Oakmont.
The stakes were, of course,
that the loser had to go into
the pro shop and buy one of the atrocious hats,
big letter hats in there.
We were told that Oakmont had fallen quite some time ago,
and they had hats
called just said pews on them. TC not here, you know, to pay off
this debt. And he doesn't have to because he absolutely whooped
my ass yesterday, I what my own ass and then TC came over into
that four inch rough and just started kicking me into the T in
the teeth as well. So to pay off a debt in today's I figured I'd
pick the, you know, the Wednesday show might not get as heavily trafficked as the Sunday show show. So to pay off a debt in today's, I figured I'd pick the, you know,
the Wednesday show might not get as heavily trafficked
as the Sunday show, Sean.
This is gonna be an embarrassing hour for me,
but I will of course be donning the pews hat
for the remainder of today's show.
In honor, you know, I pay my debts a little faster
than the shoesters do and so here we go.
But thank you, this was, it was a lot of fun.
I enjoyed getting my ass beat by this place.
Honestly, a little bum that says The Puse.
I know.
The whole spirit of these big letter hats
was to just, this is it.
We're not, we don't even need the vowels.
We're just cutting so much to the point.
Now they're throwing articles in.
I just, I don't know if I can get down with that.
$48 too.
That was just real. Really?
Yeah, that was a tough, and that was personal card, Randy.
I did not use the company card
For that one. I felt like that should have been a business expense
But I didn't want to explain that one to you have I you know speaking of hats
Have I told you guys about the Brewers hot dog club?
I feel like we're with the seamsters here just as long as we're talking about hats
I don't know where else I'm gonna work this in
$65 and you get the coolest hat I've ever seen like this big trucker hat that says
Milwaukee Brewers hot dog club member and you get a free hot dog at ever seen, like this big trucker hat that says Milwaukee Brewers Hot Dog Club member.
And you get a free hot dog at every game
for the rest of the year.
Not quite free.
They're charging people sales tax on these hot dogs.
That's a big problem.
I haven't experienced that with my own eyes.
I haven't experienced that with my own eyes.
My friend Rob Jansen said he had nothing
but good experience with the hot dog club.
So I'm gonna try to get to a game next week
and I'll report back on that.
Well, also reporting that, no, this is important.
This is important information here that, uh, you know, people are not happy
about the taxes on that and then immediately they went and sold a
player for cash considerations.
I don't know if that's tied to them getting rid of the sales tax that
they're charging people on the hot dogs, but, uh, some extra cheap antics
with Randy and I can relate to as Reds fans.
Yeah, exactly.
If anything, you guys should be applauding this.
Where were we? Well, truest championship.
Oh, yeah. Go ahead, Randy.
Sorry. You get one. No, I was just.
Oh, no, I was just going to say
that there was a Reds fan that was threatening to take a dump in the Toyota
Tundra out in the outfield in protest.
I feel like Deidre, you might be the person that needs to take a dump down
Bernie Brewer slide if things don't improve. It's a good point. If Yelly doesn't destroy it first, the ball. Indeed. You you might be the person that needs to take
a dump down Bernie Brewer's
slide if things don't improve.
It's a good point. If if Yelly
doesn't destroy it first, he's
starting to elevate the ball.
Finally, the tundra might be in
danger. We can we can talk about
that in another. But you were
talking about the truest. Yeah.
Cody wants us to get to the
truest. We're going to talk
about the truest championship.
Of course, the PJ Tour heading
this week to Philadelphia
Cricket Clubs Wissa Hicken
course for the first time ever.
Season's fifth of eight.
Siggy's signature events.
Things to know this week. No Scotty still just, you know,
coming down off the big victory at TPC Craig James,
which leads our odds slash favorites as thus Rory plus 400
kind of in that that real heady territory there,
plus 400 without Scotty in the field.
Colin Morikawa, your second favorite at plus 1,400.
And then Xander, Justin Thomas, and Ludwig all clocking in
at plus 1,600, that's via the FanDuel Sportsbook.
Odds, of course, subject to change.
A couple other just news and notes,
things I, you know, I kind of,
I got an admission to you guys.
I kind of dig the swing five.
I feel like I've said that in the past,
and I feel like I don't always circle up and just shout out
who's actually in that.
So this is kind of like the mini money list
between Punta Cana, Zurich, and the CJ Cup.
Whoever earns the most FedEx Cup points who is not otherwise
qualified gets into the CIGYs.
This thing should be all that matters to a lot of people
that have gotten very up in arms about these signature events. This should be one of the biggest races that you could
possibly be involved in over the course of the year. And that's why, Sully, when those people,
you know, get the pitchforks and torches out, they're not going to be coming after me because
I'm reading these into the record. Garrick Higgo, stand up and be counted. Eric Van Royen, welcome
to Philly. Little Sam Stevens, glad to have you.
Michael Thorbjornsson playing his first ever signature event.
And Rasmus Hoygard, kind of surprised he wasn't in
to begin with, but those are your Aon Swing 5.
Right now I'm gonna get a little just reaction from you here
regarding sponsor exemptions.
Of course, always a talking point
for these absolutely closed shop events.
We've got free Wonka passes being handed out to Ricky Fowler, Jordan Spieth, Gary Woodland,
and Keith Mitchell. Any reaction from either of you guys there?
Does it seem like these same guys get all the sponsors exemptions? I mean, I guess Web
Simpson isn't getting them anymore, but god, it just seems like. It looks copy pasted.
I honestly, I wonder if we've, you know, maybe Keith not as much, but the top three, I think
have gotten, this is not the first event that all three of these guys have gotten the sponsor
exemption.
And I guess, you know, Jordan had a good week down in Dallas last week, but I don't know.
Dej, any con I mean, your boy Ricky, you gotta be chuffed. I guess now you'll watch the event this weekend.
I will. Yeah.
Before.
No, I'll have my orange hat out and I'll be ready to go. I think it's a good warm up event for him, you know, since he also got an exemption into the PGA championship, which is.
Gross.
Can we pause on that?
That's tough. I know. I didn't know we ought to talk about it now or Sunday, but it totally can and just to draw the line here of like Listen the PGA tour is golf for money. We've said this many times
I'll defend the right of Ricky to get a sponsor's exemption into a PGA tour of any real I die. Yeah, I get
What sorry that the one of the fan favorites is gonna get you know
He's probably gonna put some butts in some seats people are young kids are gonna come out and watch
Want to come watch Ricky if he's coming to Philadelphia like It's not a hard sell for me. Major championships.
Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Sorry. I am wondering how popular Ricky is with young kids anymore
because he hasn't done anything in a while. I feel like Ricky's true fan base are probably
driving cars and off to college. Yeah, those kids are there. They're post puberty now at this point.
I mean, they're there about to enter the workforce.
I feel like fair, but probably more so than the next guy on
the list.
Randy like probably moves the needle.
And that's again where I'm like, these fields are bigger than
people give them credit for being and like there's not a
glaring omission on the field this week, right?
So that's where I'm at.
But if I may on the PGA championship exemption, no,
like that's supposed to be like the major champion.
This is a major championship.
This is about something bigger than just golf for money
and putting butts in seats.
And it's already got all the live guys coming back.
And I don't think he's moving the needle
on a PGA championship.
That one feels gross.
And the two feel really different to me.
And I, maybe I'm more defeated on the money side of the PGA Tour, but man,
the major championships, I still think that there's, there's a bigger hurdle to
clear there.
And I'm not sure Ricky clears it at this stage of his career.
I couldn't agree with that more.
I think that's, I think that's spot on.
Dustin Johnson also getting a spot and you know, played the best time.
Yeah, exactly.
Like almost as big as the PGA championship. Like that, that is not nearly as big of a problem to me Two time major champion. Yeah, exactly. Like almost as big history as the PGA championship,
like that is not nearly as big of a problem to me as Ricky.
Hear, hear.
Let's talk a little Philly Cricket Club tour
going there for the first time.
Solid, you got a chance to dig into the golf course at all,
what people should expect.
I got a little history and trivia.
I don't know if we wanna do that first
or if you guys would rather do kind of some birdies
and bogeys first here. Give us a little bit of history. Set the scene for
where we're going. Why we're going, of course we're going here because this championship was
formerly the Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo typically held at Quail Hollow Club. Quail Hollow Club
will be the site of a major championship next week. Should not be confused with the regular PGA Tour
stop in any way even though it's played almost the exact same week as the tour
always goes there. Really excited to get a look at Quail Hollow next week,
but we're not going there this week. We are going to a classic architectural
golf course, which is what we've been dying to see, right? We're just going to
see these guys get humbled all over the place.
They're just going to be in the blender, I'm sure. They're just going to be
thinking their way around this joint. All right, a little quick overview. We are going to the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
The Wissahickin course, there's two courses at Philly Cricket Club.
It's gonna be a par-
Three.
Well, there's three. There's the nine-holer at the second-
If they had courage, they'd play this at St. Martin's, which is hosted two U.S. Opens, but-
Anything else you'd like to jump on in my-
No, no, no. That might throw off Michael Bamberger's golf game, though,
so I wouldn't want him to do that. Par 70, 71, 100
yards. Famously the old, I've seen it written both ways, I've seen oldest
country club in the United States and I've seen oldest private club in the
United States. I'm gonna go with country club. I got to think there's some other
kind of like private social clubs. I don't like that that phrasing
So maybe can come at me there if you like
Founded Randy in February of 1854. That's an old-ass club. That's old. That's old
Yeah, as far as like America goes that's got some that's impressive
It predates golf in America the golf did Golf was not in America in that time period.
Indeed.
And as you would guess, and on that note,
it was founded by some cricket players, a couple of grads
from the University of Pennsylvania
with some English lineage.
We're looking for a place to play cricket.
I love this stuff, and I bring this up for a reason.
For the first 30 years of the club's existence,
they didn't own any land.
It was just a group of people that got together and just played cricket wherever they could
play.
And I say that to say, you could start a club.
You don't need to have a big golf course.
You don't need to have a big building to even meet.
Just start a club and go start doing stuff in restaurants or bars or whatever.
I think we've lost this spirit in a way, and I would like to get back to it.
That's what roots are, aren't they?
For sure.
I think we have that.
Well, we're doing our part.
I'm saying, get out there. Start some more clubs. That's just golf. You't for sure. We have what we're doing our part. I'm saying, you know get out there start start some more clubs
That's just golf, you know, you could start any kind of club
So I just I appreciate the the gumption of the Philly cricket. Oh, I walk into a bar sometimes and you see a group playing
Like a board game like kudos to them. It's yeah. Yeah
Got inspired I'm gonna go I might go start a club.
I think you should let us keep us posted on that.
So after that, like 30 years later, they did get a location, Ranee in the Chestnut Hill
neighborhood of Philadelphia.
A tennis squash and swimming location that I believe has a nine hole golf course as well.
And now the other golf or the other locations near Flower Town, which has the two golf courses
we're gonna be talking about today.
Renny, you kind of mentioned this,
the St. Martin's course, the other course
at Philly Cricket Club, hosted the US Open
in both 1907 and 1910.
Both of those US Opens are interesting
for two different reasons, okay?
The winner of, this is the first trivia Philly Cricket Club was the brother of someone who is much, much, much more famous in the golf world for their contributions.
Any idea who I'm talking about here?
Oh, not American. Not American. Not American. Scottish
lad. Um. As most of the winners of this time were. Is it a is
it a I was gonna say a Ross but is it a park? It is a Ross.
It's Alec Ross, the brother of Donald Ross. That's right. Was
was your winner in 1907 at the Philly Cricket Club.
Good four-round total here, 76-74, and then he kind of did the Mackenzie Hughes 76-76 on the weekend, and just dusted him.
Something else that happened in the 1907 US Open at Philly Cricket Club. This marks the first time that this had ever happened
in a US Open.
It's happened 53 times since.
Do you guys know what I'm talking about?
53 times.
Lift, clean, and place.
Great guess, great guess.
I don't know if they've ever done lift, clean, and place.
Hole in one.
Hole in one is exactly right.
Oh wow.
Jack Hobbins, I believe, is how you pronounce that, on the 10th hole done lift clean. Hole in one. Hole in one is exactly right. Oh wow. Jack Hobbins, I believe is how you pronounce that,
on the 10th hole at the St. Martin's course.
Unfortunately went on to shoot 85,
but still holds quite a distinction.
Many luminaries following in his footsteps,
Spencer Levine, John Peterson,
Duffy Waldorf, I think maybe making it a hole in one inone in a any US Open Phil Mickelson, of course, Sepp Straka
So I know that was probably made you mad as hell
It would a note it would be 15 years before another ace would be made at the US Open
How about let's move let's move to the 1910 US Open. This is gonna be a little bit more history than it is trivia
Okay, but Randy, I think you're gonna get kick out of this here
1910 US Open was won by
Alex Smith, the Scottish golf professional, not not
quarterback, who had also won a US Open in 1906. So this was his
second one. The first one, he won by seven over his brother
Willie, also a past US Open champion in his own right, which
is which is quite impressive.
In 1910, he needed a playoff, 18-hole playoff against two people.
Okay? Both of them were notable. First one, John McDermott, a name you might recognize.
And I do. And he went on, of course, why do I bring all this up?
He would go on to win the next two US Opens. He was the first American to ever win the US Open.
Came up just short in a playoff that year against Alex
Smith, the second person in that playoff, another brother,
McDonald Smith.
So this guy won two U.S.
Open's both over his brothers, which was...
Well, they're like just 15 people playing golf in the
country at this point.
Yeah, I feel like we were just passing it around a pretty
small cohort, maybe.
I don't know.
Yeah, there's still...
There was like, I don't know, 40, 50 people in the tournament, but still, you know, that's a good one to hang your
hat on. Good one from, you know, mom and pop Smith over there in Scotland. Smith's are just like the
high cotton club just passing around trophies. If you don't get that joke, join a roost.
to roost. So, why do I bring all of this up? Because Willy, the guy who won in 1906, after his kind of competitive golf career, became a golf professional and he moved to Mexico
City to become a club pro, I think like Mexico City Golf Club or Country Club or something.
While he was there, he got an offer to build a new course. However, he died before that course
was realized, which meant Alex came down, took it over, finished the design and the
construction. Do you know what golf course I'm talking about here?
I mean, come on. This would be the golf course that would go on to be known as Chapultepec.
Yeah, come on.
So his beloved Chapultepec, and of course,
Alex Smith, if you recognize his name from Tour of Sauce,
also did Walsh Camo.
So quite a double there with nine hole Walsh Camo
and kind of the early iteration of Chapultepec.
And hey, he also won a US Open at Philly Cricket Club.
You're not gonna get that shit
from any other podcast this week, I I'll just say I think Deidre
I don't know how you deep you went on John McDermott
But didn't John McDermott have like a tragic death like I feel like there's a real tragedy to his life as well
I think that's right. I think he yeah, I don't want to speak out of term, but I think I'd young
Yeah, I think he developed a real mental illness maybe a bit of a I think he I think he.
Yeah, I think he developed a real mental illness and a lot of people dying in
sanatoriums these days feels like every one of these Wikipedia pages you click on
that seem to be, yeah, probably just tough living.
I think back then big, I think
guys moving to slightly more relevant history, there was another notable in that
field of the 1910 U.S. Open at Philly Cricket Club, specifically a Philadelphia native who finished 25th. Do you know
who I'm talking about? Jalen Hurts. Big Dom. No, it's not Jalen Hurts. A Philadelphia native. He's also not Rocky Balboa.
I'll give you a hint. He would go on to become a golf course designer
and open a very relevant golf course
to what we're talking about.
Solly, go ahead.
That would be A.W. Tillinghast, guys.
A.W. Tillinghast, the golf course architect
of the Wissa Hicken course. An absolute stick as well.
I did not realize, I mean, it made it probably obvious to people of, you know, students of history
of the Golden Age architecture guys, but what a stud. I found this fun. He played in a bunch of
US amateurs as well and over a stretch of a couple years got knocked out of the US Am by Walter
Travis, another golf course architect, Chandler Egan, one of the brains behind Pebble Beach and Chick Evans, you know, the first guy to win the US AM and US Open in the same year. So my question is this. What does AW stand for?
All world. All world Tillinghast. That's exactly, I can't believe you got that. That's exactly right. No Albert Warren. Wouldn't have gotten that one, but good to know.
God, if Wolfie watches this he's gonna be just screaming so much.
I'd probably got half this stuff wrong already.
So I think you can maybe get this one. Tillinghast is one of six architects in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
This took me so long to find
because I hate to punch down here,
but the World Golf Hall of Fame's website is a travesty.
It didn't even show up in the first
like 10 pages of Google results.
Just brutal, brutal stuff.
But I'm pretty sure that this is right.
I think there's six architects
in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Can you guys name the six?
And I'll give you AW Tillinghouseass, all world TillingHass.
So Ali, go ahead.
Alistair McKenzie.
That's one.
Doctor.
Donald Ross has to be in there.
That's two.
CB McDonald.
That's three.
Seth Reignorn.
Not in.
That's, wow.
I don't believe, unless it's, again,
the website maybe hasn't been updated. I don't believe he's in. his wins above replacement wasn't high enough. He had a kind of a shorter career
You know he peaked really hard, but he just didn't have like the only thing it's all it yeah
Harry Cole no great guess should absolutely be it don't know how he's great not in can't believe he's not in
We're missing
What are we missing?
Two Americans.
Pete Dye?
Course, Mr. Peter Dye.
Okay.
Don't say Jack Nicklaus.
No, I would say worse.
Arnold Palmer?
No, neither of those.
Honestly, I could get down with the Fahs, be it it.
The patriarch of just a long line. Reese Jones? Reese Jones. Actually, you know what?
Reese Jones is not in. R.T.J. Senior is in. It's not his bag. Yeah. So Cody was
looking for this question. I know. The name Wissahickin of the Wissahickin course comes from the Lenape name for what is it a
fields of gold
B
rolling hills
C
Valley of pines or D catfish stream a
I
Think a as well, but god if it's D, it's an all-timer. It is D catfish stream.
Is the answer. So keep that in mind as you, you know, you see the the Wissahickin Creek running
adjacent to the golf course this week. Also the final resting place of Tillinghast's ashes I found
in my research. So there you go. Alright guys, a little more modern
history here. 2014, a restoration of the Wissahickin course was completed by
director of grounds Dan Mearsman and this architect. Keith Foster. Keith Foster
is exactly right. He got unfortunately he was canceled. Yeah, I don't know. I mean
the guy's done a lot in his career
I hate for that to be bullet bullet number one
But was unfortunately sentenced to 30 days in prison in 2019 for selling items quote made from endangered species
Which is which is a tough beat but it looks by all intents and purposes
It looks like he did a great job on the on the resto here. So
This is a good one. I
like this question. This week is the first PGA Tour event played
in Philadelphia since when?
PJ Tour and sure PGA Tour.
Aeronomic 2018 BMW. Oh, right. That's been a long time. I did
not realize there's not been a tour event in the Philly area
since 20 which is like, that's crazy.
That's nuts.
What are we doing?
And of course, Keegan looking to go back to back.
All right, this is a good one.
I like this.
This is in the PGA Tour notes this week.
One player in the field has won twice on the PGA Tour in the Philly area.
Who might that be?
One player in the field. Team Rose. Team Rose is exactly right. He wanted Marianne, of course, in 2013, and then he won the
AT&T National at Ironman back in 2010. Guys, thus concludes
my history and trivia of the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Uh so what what have you been seeing? You know, I don't believe any of us have been there.
Rainy, have you have you been there? I have actually played it. Yeah and I just remember
getting my ass absolutely kicked. So and the other thing, there's a major reroute from the traditional
So, and the other thing, there's a major reroute from the traditional routing. So I'm, you know, I'm going to have to pick up kind of certain holes, but I can remember
like 18 coming downhill to the clubhouse.
I just remember it being like a capital P proper capital G golf test it felt like.
It is like, it's hard but we're gonna try to marry
some thoughts up here of like this is where I would like to see golf course
professional golf trends towards golf courses like this that are a little bit
more thoughtful and you know a little bit more architecturally sound. We can
get we can we can unpack all that as much as we want to, but
it also is probably gonna put some stuff on display that is on the less sexy side
of pro golf.
And I don't know if we wanna get into all that stuff now or not.
We have some quotes from players that worry me a little bit on what we're gonna
see this week, which I think could potentially set us back towards more
tournaments going to places like this, even
though it's something I want to celebrate. But I'm curious
where where you guys net out.
So you mentioned celebration. And one thing I want to
celebrate is Robax USA.
Club.
You all already know Robac is our favorite polos shorts,
pants, you name it best fit best feel Randy. Simple as that.
It's getting to be summer
Which means that Robax USA collection is here
Maybe our favorite collection of the year because the designs are so good something about the red white and blue Randy
I know it's barbecue season is coming up
You know you need to get the colors on and start manning the grill. I think in some of the Robak USA
collection
Second Robax Delta looper shorts are back in stock.
I cannot believe it.
It's actually shorts weather almost here in Milwaukee.
We've had a couple of great days.
So looking forward to that.
And finally, it's, sorry.
And finally, it's time to load up on some Roback
ahead of summer use code NLU on roback.com
for a generous 20% off your first order
through the end of this week that's spelled Roback
RHOBACK.com 20% off all polos shorts and more with code NLU.
So workout shirt SZN here. These are the tech ones I'm wearing pretty much all summer.
Sorry, so I got to get into a lengthy part of the conversation here.
So, I just wanted to work.
Well, I think we have, uh, Rory, there's only been a few interviews so far from players.
I think JT, Xander, and Rory is at the time that, um, at least transcript wise that were
available, but Rory had a clip that was going around a little bit, uh, talking about his
strategy for the golf course and how it sets up for him. And I find this an interesting
jumping off point.
This is, you can send it. Um, there's's every every bunker seems to be about 300 to 310 to carry, which is
thankfully fine.
There's one bunker on nine that's 331, but it's down like 10.
So it's like 320 equivalent.
That's the longest one to try to get over.
So in good conditions, I can if you know, it's calm or a little bit of help but yeah it's it's basically open season. You know the way because I go
back to Oak Hill a couple years ago at the PGA and I tried to play the golf
course strategically over the first couple of days and I just realized that
these new renovated old-school courses like the strategy is just hit driver everywhere and then figure it out from there. And that's sort of the
strategy of this place this week.
Could you hear it the whole time at least? We could. Okay good. Thank you. Apologies.
A couple of things on that. I think one it's bleak. Take it on its face. It's very, very bleak, yes.
And we'll get into why that's bleak and yada, yada, yada.
Two, the only challenge flag I'll throw on this
is just consider the source,
that he is the guy that drives it better
than anybody in the world and carries it 330.
And that's not the case for literally every player
in the field, but I think a lot of it does apply
to a lot of the people in the field. I I think a lot of it does apply to a lot of the people in
the field. I think the overall point to that I would say is that's the fast pass to the top of
the boards is the skill. And I think that's where the problem lies. It's not that we want to take
the skill away from Rory to be longer than everyone else. I'd like to take away the ability to
completely overpower and render the structure of the holes and the strategy of the golf course completely useless as he just said out loud.
Right? So again, this is consistent with a lot of stuff we've talked about over
the years, but the point I want to just connect here is like, he's saying out
loud the part that like a lot of us have trouble with where technology is at in
the game of like, yeah, I tried to play Oak Hill strategically and figured out,
no, just play it as dumb as possible is personally where I don't like the trend of golf going. If you do, all credit to you.
But again, just trying to like, I don't think I love golf course architecture as much as I do golf course strategy. And I've long been said that I think those are pretty consistent. They are similar things, but it's just a different way of looking at it.
I think architecture and approaching it from that viewpoint can come off as snobby or, you know, kind of preachy at times.
But I think almost anybody would agree that there should be strategy to golf holes and how you attack them.
Xander had some comments this week about not really caring much about golf course architecture.
But, and I don't think it's, like, a reasonable expectation to have pros care, or think that
architecture matters that much. But I promise you, Xander has
opinions on what he thinks should be tested of pros. And
that's what we're talking about here in terms of strategy and
what a golf course is asking of a player. I want to see a golf
course test a variety of skills. I want the contouring of the
course to matter. Like that's what is interesting about this
golf course is the contouring of the greens, the big tilts to
them, the different sections of the greens that can provide
different challenges. But when you have wedges into a lot of
these holes, it renders all of that completely useless and
honestly makes it like not worth going to a golf course like
this. And then we end up in these backwards conversations
kind of what Rory's referring to here like, well, they took out
the trees. So all I'm gonna do is just bomb it past everything.
And then you get into like, all right,
maybe it does make more sense for pro golf courses
to be narrower with thicker rough and more trees,
because I don't think you should just be able to bypass
what makes this golf course unique and interesting.
And it just is kind of a bummer.
I'm glad that we're gonna get to see something
on the calendar that's like, hey, what's a golf course?
I'd love to see a pro tournament at, and it's, it's this one, but I'm,
I'm pre bummed out for like how I think this is going to go because of all the
information we have about distance.
And again, Rory just saying this stuff out loud.
Like I don't think you should be able to bypass this much of the
challenge just by bombing the ball.
Yeah.
And look, we'll see what happens this weekend, but the other element to this is
like it looks like 70% chance of rain on Thursday and Friday.
The weekend looks nice.
And so, you know, for the good fine people of Philadelphia who have not had a professional
golf tournament in quite a while, it looks like it would be an absolutely delightful
place to go stroll around.
But yeah, I think it's probably going gonna be hella birdies out there.
We'll see, I don't know, we'll see if the wind has any kind of protection.
But outside of that, man, it is a pretty tough ask for any golf course to hold
firm against these guys, especially a course that is gonna be pretty soaked,
probably.
And also, it's like a little too early in the season to have any of that rough that's you know I'm sure the rough is not as
thick as it would be in June, July, August. So it's just kind of a it's a
tough ask and I'm with you solid. It's like man I this is what we've been
wanting to see and I do want to see it but I don't know that we're gonna get
exactly what we're asking for but we'll see fingers crossed. Just top of that, we don't have the video for this. But
Rory had another quote that was like, he said, I think when it
was renovated, it probably would have held up to the distances
that were being hit. But reminder, this was renovated in
2014. Like we're a decade on from a renovation. We're not
talking about a 90s renovation. But he says even 10 years on, I
feel like every par 4 out there is 434-40. They sort of feel
like they're 40 or 50 yards away from what they need to be.
Still it's a cool track to play, he said.
The holes are 40 to 50 yards too short after being renovated 10 years ago.
Again, if that's not causing alarm bells, I don't know what will.
But he's saying all this stuff out loud.
Again, it's something to watch for this week. If you net out on a different side of the argument
than where I do or where we do, I'd be curious to hear your
feedback come Sunday night because not every golf course is
going to put on display as much as it sounds like this one's
going to.
Yeah. I think if you're looking for pros on it, you know, like
the par threes sound really cool. Sounds like there's a big, giant variety of par threes.
Randy, you obviously have played them,
but like reading JT's quotes and-
I wish I wouldn't have said that
because I really don't remember much.
Well, it sounds like at least for these guys
that the par threes are gonna stretch.
I think actually as Matt McNeely was talking about,
like he hit gap wedge on one,
and then I think another was like 230.
So like, I think you got the whole full spectrum
of par threes, which would be fun.
JT was talking about hitting driver five wood into 18.
I mean, I know that's one hole,
but he was making the point about the wind switching.
You know, one day he was hitting driver six
and the next day he's hitting driver five wood.
So I think there is still some teeth out there.
It kind of sounds like the par three,
I think it's the 14th,
at least as far as this routing is going to play is kind of that short little par three.
And then the rest is just like, hold on and try to hang on for dear life. So I don't know.
The good thing about PJ Tour Golf is like, even if it is 28, 29, 30 under par outside
of a week like last week, it's like, usually it's still pretty fun to see who kind of comes out on top.
And so if you have, if the TV can show off like some cool greens,
hopefully we've got some bells and whistles on the broadcast side,
since it's a signature event and you can get some of those cameras down low to
show what makes these, makes this golf course work. And hopefully CBS can kind of,
make some of that stuff shine. It still seems like it's going to a net positive, but I'm with you, Sully, in that.
I'll remember some of these quotes, especially if the tour doesn't end up going with the
golf ball rollback, which some of that has been signaled of just like, yeah, USGA might roll back,
but we might just make our own local rule. And it's like, well, you can't really do that and then
have, and I know Rory's not the official spokesman of the tour, but you you can't really do that and then have and you know and I know Rory's not like the official spokesman of the tour but like
you also can't really have him sitting in a press conference just being like
hey just fucking bomb it anywhere you want and oh yeah this renovations out
of date because the ball goes so much farther than it did ten years ago so I
don't know it's a lot but that's that's kind of my my brain space right now
well should we look at some of uh some plays for this
week and some some I just just let's do it. I want to throw this out for all the all the flak I've
taken on the speed front seventh biggest favorite this week plus 2500. I know I did notice that as
well. He's always a public name but yeah god I'd love if he just kept it up man. I mean if you want to
hear this part too Randy he is the ninth best American over the last three months
and the ninth best American over the last six months in the time that since
he's had his surgery and been back playing golf. I don't love that because
you just all I remember is like you know Andrew Novak should be on the right or like are there eight other good Americans or I feel like we're not
super John Mcdermott's now walking through that door
that's outside the top 15 of both of those just for just for the record on
who else is on that list you have it pulled up for six months so it's last
six months top American Scottie Scheffler, Bryson Morikawa, JT Russell Henley, Patrick Cantlay, Daniel Berger,
King Bradley Jordan Smith,
Mav McNeely, Michael Kim, Denny McCarthy.
That's pretty interesting. A couple names. Well, I feel like Spieth, listen, it's better than not being ninth, but
like really he needs to get back to being one of
the three four best Americans like truly.
And hopefully, I mean, like it's kind of been the driver that's been an issue, right?
I mean, maybe this is maybe a week like this is kind of a a get right, you know, coming
off that the triumphant final round and in, maybe comes here, drives it and play,
and takes advantage of a second shot golf course, we'll see.
So what'd you guys cook up for the NLU parlay this week?
Three-man parlay, top 20s here.
I wanna give a shout out to my guy Ron Kloss
at Betts Burtz, he was throwing out,
basically he runs a filter on his site
for different kinds of conditions,
and what was jumping off the page for him
was Patrick Cantlay in the Northeast on this kind of grass.
Like he is like, that's his style of play.
This is where he lines up.
So I nominated Patrick Cantlay in the NLU Parlay
for the top 20.
We had other nominations of Tom Hoagy,
of course a Ciggy event, I love this one as well.
And Max Grazerman that ends you up with a plus 1600 top 20 parlay.
That's our fun NLU parlay of the week.
Yeah, that feels like a fun sweat. It feels winnable.
As always, our plays are up there on the FanDuel Sportsbook. If you're watching this
live, you can see the No Langhup specials on there as well.
And Soly, I cannot stress how much odds are subject to change. They are of course subject to
change. What do you have for your play Solly? I'm gonna sprinkle mine in here.
I'm going down to Myrtle Beach for a quick one of... it's just a... Blades Brown to
win at Myrtle Beach this week. Yeah, fuck it man, why not? Lighter field of course plus 10,000. I mean he shot like 52 at a
corn ferry event recently. I can't imagine Myrtle Beach plays very difficult.
I could get hot and go win the damn thing. Why not? I got Daniel Berger for a top 20 plus 100 this week.
Again, these are the limited field events. Top 20 is not a very difficult thing to obtain. He's been playing some very solid golf.
Got a weird gut feeling on Cory Connors this week. So he's my plus 3,500 first round leader.
I have a feeling at least one of those is going to hit.
Well, the burger thing is much more likely to hit,
but I feel good about some of those long odds shots as well.
I think we're going to have some fun sweats.
What do you guys need?
Blaze Brown to win Myrtle Beach's electric.
Isn't that fun?
Yeah, I might need to tell you on that one.
That is fun.
I had, you know what?
I forget who your guy was that you shouted out, but I couldn't
be more aligned. I had Patrick Cantlay for a top five plus
four hundred. This just feels like like his type of place.
I love love Cantlay this week.
This one I saw the Fandl had up the nearest to the pin.
Just one shot, Randy.
I really like this.
Round one, hole eight,
I think JT's gonna hit it closer than Rory or Fleetwood.
That's plus 180.
And so you can almost double your money.
I just, I don't know.
That's fun.
I'll be paying attention to that one shot.
I like that.
That's great.
It's fun.
My last one, this is a round up around one matchups parlay.
Spieth over JT. These are just in round one. Spieth over JT.
Hideki over Fleetwood. Lowry over solid boys.
Seps Troca. Wow. And Xander over more.
How that nets you out to plus 1325.
Those were those were my picks this week and a couple I know
TC's watching.
He's going to want us to read these into the record just in
case any of them hits and he can claim claim something on
them later.
JT Poston and Denny McCarthy top 20 parlay.
I don't know if I love that based on everything we just
said about like how all the big dogs are like just swing away
and letting that can happen. I don't know if the two shorter guys
are gonna are gonna do it but we'll see and he had Alex Smalley to win at
Myrtle Beach so I'll just I'll throw that out there
Randy what do you got? Yeah well just a quick note that atoll is gonna be the
the long one that's the 240 yard part three. So that'll be a fun one.
I love it. Set your alarm for when the group gets to that tee. My picks this week, listen,
I quickly on Max Grazerman, the home game models were just flashing there. So he's a
New Jersey guy. If you're a believer in the home game model like I am, that's why I'm a big fan of him. He's he's a New Jersey guy. If you're a
believer in the home game
model like I am, that's why I'm
bullish on Max Grazerman this
week but getting to my other
picks. Listen, if it's May, you
know, it's Justin Thomas SCN
last time we saw him, he won
the playoff at Heritage. My
first play. It's just a nice
little JT and Xander top 20 parlay that gets
you plus 193 odds. I feel like
Zander is going to really be
ramping up this. This will be a
big week for him ahead of the
major and defending that
championship for him. My other
one guys is what's going on on
the LPGA. That's at Liberty
National up in New York City.
That's going to be a that's's gonna be a fun one.
So I did a little cross pollination parlay here
with JT and Nellie Korda, Top 20 parlay for plus 220.
Nellie was your champion last year at the Mizuho.
She's gonna be a little disappointed after the Chevron
a couple of weeks ago on the LPGA.
I really like that
one. And then I took group winners on the LPGA, if you want to get weird with me, Gino Titicum to win, I believe it's
Group A, and Alison Corpuz, who's been playing some better golf to win Group D. That's a plus 1448 odds there. So.
1448 odds there. So I love it. I love the cross pollination.
You know, I really that JT, now, JT Nellie, when it's great top two to one. Yeah. Sign me up for that.
Well, also going on and teeing off in just about 15 minutes
here is the the third, what is this the second creator classic
of the year, third creator classic of total.
Randy, I prepared a little game here.
Do you wanna get our one and done's in the record?
Oh, I'm sorry.
As well this week, yeah.
Of course, of course, of course.
We've been hitting on these,
so we better get them in the record.
Yeah, exactly.
One and done's.
This is the week it turns around.
I think this is the week it turns around.
I am gonna go with Russell Henley.
You know, no field other than he's been playing really good golf, putts it well, you know, probably navigates
some, some tricky greens. TC, you already mentioned, or I already mentioned it, I should
say in his, his little parlay he had cooked up. He's going to go with pound for pound
the best player in the world, JT Poston. Solly, where are you going? PC. You know, my guy, no hat, Pat, he is the Northeastern,
God, I should come up with a good nickname for him.
Northeastern Navigator. He's gonna navigate his way through
the golf course this week. I love it. Neil is out at Lib
Nat right now playing the prime. He's going with Tommy
Fleetwood to win Randy your thoughts. Oh
just why do we keep doing this man? Do we have a Tommy
Fleetwood tracker? How many times he's been picked to win
an event? Uh KVV is going with Daniel Berger. Uh love that
pick. I I think that's a good one. Win soon and Randy
round us out. Where are you going? I have Shane Lowry and I
don't have a ton of reason behind this. I feel like he's
been playing some better golf. But yeah, the guys I really
wanted, I realized I had already picked this year. So
such as one and tons are hard. They're really hard. Well, what are the data boys? I like what have they
triangulated? Philly cricket? Like what what do they think it's
going to be play? Like, is there any idea that way? I don't know
if we if we do know that information. I don't I don't
know if I have that. I'm sure it's just we don't have history
of people playing on it, right?
At least that's how data golf does it.
It's like what kinds of players tend to do well
on this golf course, the longer players,
the more accurate players,
and we just don't have that information
about this golf course.
I like when the data boys have to fly blind.
Well, listen, speaking of the eye test,
I'm just receiving word, very unexpected,
but a new man has just popped into the chat.
TC, I'm gonna tap him in here real quick.
Hello, Tron.
Hey guys, Sally, I just wanted to say I love the hat.
Thank you, thank you, I've enjoyed this.
Honestly, kinda coming around on it.
I'm kind of excited it's coming around.
I see you trying to bury it on a Wednesday.
No, I just want to pay the debt quickly. I wanted to pay the debt quickly.
I miss high interest rate economy.
I can see that.
You know what's nice about that hat is imagine the takes you could get away with
habit if you just wore that hat around.
You know, you could just everybody be like, oh yeah, like, of course I got.
Yeah, he's the Oakmont guy.
Yeah.
Well, they don't talk about the app.
They don't measure it.
They don't measure the app.
Guys, I just wanted to, Randy, I want one that just says the app.
TC, what brought you, what brings you to this neighborhood?
No, I just wanted to defend Tommy's honor a little bit.
I got a lot of people local to Philadelphia saying that this is his week.
Yeah, a rocky type of story.
Yeah, kind of, you know, flashing with the irons.
God, I feel like we hear this multiple times a year.
Multiple times a year. I mean, dozens of times a year. Yeah.
I just wanted to say I'm really proud of Neil for for taking the leap there. Of course, I'm saving
him for Port Rush. I would have picked Berger would have ridden
with KVV there but I'd already used him this year. And Sally,
I'm with you on PC, man. I think PC is is this just sets up
there's something about PC up in the northeast.
Do you see I want you to put I want you to put your name on the port rush pick
to the extent that I did with Rory at the masters, where it was like, all right,
this is it.
I'm picking them now and I'm never picking them again.
I need that level of, for how many times you've picked him, if you win it, we're
not going to give you credit for it unless you like put a, a, a, a, I'm not
picking him all the time. I don't pick them
all the time for majors. What? Most of the time. Yeah, most of the time. No, I don't. Cue the montage.
Uh, you know, I think Ludwig and Scottie are going to go to a playoff at Oakmont. I think that's like
preordained. I just love that you joined to celebrate somebody else picking Tommy. Like that's like preordained. I just love that you joined for to celebrate somebody else picking Tommy.
Like that's what got you.
Yeah, I know.
It's really cool.
Cause there's a, there's a, there's a course.
I have a serious thing.
I would have a lot more respect for Tommy
if he went and played in Myrtle beach and just,
Hey, go get a win down there.
Yeah. Exactly.
Go get a win.
And then we can start worrying about
winning the big boy events.
Wait, was Tom Kim in the truest? No, Tom Kim's playing Myrtle Beach.
Okay, but he's not in the truest.
I don't think per PGA Tour regulations that people can do that.
Because somebody wanted to do that a few years ago.
I can't remember who it was. They wanted to play like a hometown.
Was it Paul Casey or something like that?
Or Scott Brown or something? Who could say?
It might have been Scott Brown.
I think it was Scott Brown. Yeah. God, how did you pull that? Or Scott Brown or something? Who could say? It might have been Scott Brown. I think it was Scott Brown.
Yeah. God, how did you pull that? That's crazy.
Oh, listen, we're kind of dancing around it. I cooked up one more little seggy here.
TC, we'd love for you to stick around because I think you're going to enjoy this.
Randy, I know your beloved Creator Classic is kicking off shortly. I know the Myrtle Beach
is kicking off shortly. So I want to play a game. Is this person playing the Creator Classic or are they playing the Myrtle Beach event?
Okay, are you up for this? I couldn't be more up for anything. All right,
we're gonna start with an easy one. Okay, Jackson Subur. Jackson Subur I do know is a golfer. He is
gonna be playing in the Myrtle Beach. That's exactly right. He's a 25 year old from Ole Miss, top 10 in his debut
at the Sony Open. Not so good since. Also sponsored by, TZ's got his
Monterey Production hat on. I was going to say he's one of Bunkie's boys.
Yes, he's one of Bunkie Perkins' All the C-Hitters.
Yeah, exactly. All right, let's go to, where should we go next?
Let's go Cristobal del Solar.
Where will be?
Is he the guy who did the White Lotus Season Two
theme song?
Wasn't that Cristobal?
It may well have been, but this Cristobal del Solar
is a 31-year-old golf professional from Chile, went to Florida State. You're thinking of Cristobal Tap Solar is a 31 year old golf professional from Chile went to Florida State
You're thinking of Cristobal Tapia de Vere. Yeah
Tell me there's a difference there
Oh close
That's some slaps
Let's go
That was season two
Thank you
That's two
That's what he said.
All right, Randy.
Next up, Josh Richards.
Gosh, Josh Richards sounds too vanilla to be a creator, so I'm going to say a golf professional.
No, he is a creator, Randy.
He's the host of the BFF's podcast with Cody's girl, Brianna Chickenfry.
That's a real person. That is a real person. podcast with Cody's girl Brianna Chickenfry.
That's a real person.
That is a real person.
Yeah.
That's the only reason I know who she is is because you're giving me all this Zach Brian news all the time.
So I don't know what to tell you.
You do got to own that one, Cody.
I'll stand with that.
Thank you.
Is that a stage name or a real name?
I don't know.
I didn't go as deep on the creators as I did on on Alex Smith and and Willy's Big Willy style
Oh, it's some of those guys
Let's let's go down the list Noah Goodwin
Noah Goodwin
Gosh this is a real coin flip for me. We just had a creator.
I'll double up.
I'll say creator.
No, he is a pro from Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Don't have a lot of other information.
Why don't we go?
Let's go here.
Kyle Lowry.
Kyle Lowry.
Great point guard.
Spent a lot of time and actually is back in
Philadelphia Toronto Raptors. Kyle Lowry creator I guess. You know what it is that Kyle Lowry
that is playing in the basketball. Yeah I just realized this today as I was putting this together that it's always boy nade shot the video game guy
Has dropped out and Kyle Lowry?
The basketball player is apparently playing I saw like one tweet about this. I don't think anybody else
Seems to give a shit, but you can't worry will apparently be playing. I was in for Nate shot. I know you had on your board as an auto
dub. You know, I know I can get that one. Not so fast. All right,
where should we go next? Let's go Sean Walsh. Sean Walsh is
gosh, he doesn't strike me as a golfer. but we've had two creators in a row. So I'm
just gonna, I'm gonna game the test and say a PGA professional.
Can't ever try to game the test, Big. You gotta go with your head. Sean Walsh, part
of the just infinitely famous good good golf, he is a creator.
Randy's a little behind those good content.
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need...
I'm gonna need... I'm gonna need... I'm gonna need... I'm gonna need... I'm gonna need... Next one will go Matt Scharf. Let me know if you need a spelling. Oh, Matt Scharf.
S-C-H-A-R-F-F.
I mean, surely it can't be four creators in a row.
Let's go PJ Professional at the Myrtle Beach Classic.
Matt Scharf also part of Good Good Golf.
Oh, come on.
There can't be four Ds in a row. Like the teacher.
Failing the scantron. All right I don't have too many more. Theo Humphrey. Pro. That's a
pro. Former SEC player. I was gonna say did he go to Vanderbilt or something?
That's exactly right. I vaguely remember him. I think his dad's like a big private equity guy too. Yeah I
don't. I don't
Maybe others I was gonna try to trip you up on Dylan board and just really emphasize that it's spelled
D-I-L-L-O-N because I thought you would go creator, but that that's a golf line from Jacksonville and then Josh Kelly
be the last one total coin flip but
That's country music sensation. It's a creator that runs the whole-in-one trick shots account. So pretty decent.
I think you kind of got in your own head there a little bit, but thank you for pointing that
out.
I'm legitimately glad I got Kyle Lowry.
I immediately went there.
Kind of felt like, despite yourself, you got that one.
Other news and notes there from Myrtle Beach. Mackenzie
Hughes, your favorite at plus 2000. We mentioned this Tom Kim in the field plus 2500. Tom Kim
not even the favorite at the Myrtle Beach. What have you. I think that's interesting.
I'm not going to spike the football. I just think it's interesting. You can spike it.
He's not playing that well. Is he worried about pace of play? Is that is that in his head? It must be. It's got to be it. I'll shout out South Carolina senior Nathan Franks
playing the Myrtle Beach event as well after winning the Q at Myrtle Beach.
I watched the Brewers Hot Dog Club too. I liked how they did the if anybody watched that YouTube video, the Monday Q, the video for the
Myrtle Beach, they have like a walking commentator with each group of the foursome instead of like
having a booth announcing things just kind of having somebody walk through things. Shane Bacon
was one of the guys like that was just that was the best way of like taking an event like we would
normally say they should be live but like actually adding out all the fluff and like presenting it as a live product and
while keeping it moving that was the best I've seen any of these attempts at
doing that so there you go I believe he was also the guy if you remember South
Carolina's van got in a car accident a couple years ago he was the the player
that got hurt he was like I think the best player on South Carolina at that
time and then got hurt and ended up having to miss SEC's and a bunch of stuff.
So it seems like he is he's back and and playing some good golf.
So he'll make his PGA Tour debut this week. Thanks to that event.
So you mentioned this. I didn't I did not bring this up.
Bryson and Keegan getting an invite to the Team USA Ryder Cup Dinner.
Anything you'd like to say there? No, just an interesting note. Obviously it's organized around the PJ Tour event and special
trip being made by both of them. Not necessarily surprising, but just something worthy of note.
We've talked about the Bryson fit in the team room and it looks like they're obviously trending
towards him being a part of the part of the team. So
wait, Keith, wait, are you surprised that Keegan that was more? Yeah, of course, price. Yeah, that was more. Oh, I
typed Bryson and Keegan. I meant to type Bryson and Brooks.
Ah, there we go. I was like, man, I'd hope they
invite. Yeah, I had all these questions about like, yeah, who's
sending out invites and
listen, that's, that's on on me Keegan invited Bryson and Brooks
That was I mistyped that into the agenda. I thought it was one of the only things I put in there. Thank you
Well, one of the final kind of news and notes here you guys were down at or up. I suppose that Oakmont
I was out at Aaron Hills a couple of USGA media days getting ready for the US open and US women's open
we'll have lots and lots more stuff
on kind of the golf course and the intricacies
of what we saw out there.
But anything you guys kind of want to get in the record
about your day out at Oakmont?
I think first time for both of you guys, right?
First time for both of us.
Yeah, Oakmont.
They've gone, they've gone,
they've taken out all the trees.
Honestly, I flew the drone capturing a bunch of footage.
We're gonna do a bunch of content around it.
We're gonna do a special Oakmont pod as well.
We'll have a lot of content around all this.
But flew the drone, it was kinda like,
man, okay, yeah, I get it, that's cool.
And the difference in getting on the ground
and hitting the shots was,
I mean, it was one of the all-time ass-whoopings
I've ever experienced on a golf course. I'm gonna be that hard. There's no trees.
Just fucking ship it. Completely unprepared for four inch wet thick, like
can't almost can't find your ball rough. It was, I feel like I've walked into this
trap so many times on tournaments and saying like, alright, this one's gonna
test accuracy. Like, oh, this one's good. And it always ends up just being, just
bomb it and find it and you succeed. If this one doesn't test accuracy. Like, oh, this one's gonna, it always ends up just being just bomb it and find it and you succeed. If this one doesn't test accuracy off the tee, then I,
then nothing will because it, they have great variety off the tee on where a bunch of the balls
can end up. And it's just a freaking epic test of golf. It's a US Open golf course. Like,
is it like a fun place to play? I would argue no, at least in US Open setup like we did. But is
it tailor-made to host this specific golf tournament? Absolutely. And it's just a great
happy medium for almost what anybody could want out of a US Open. If you like thick rough,
this place has got it, but it's also not Torrey Pines when it comes to the architecture and
strategy of it. It just seems like a perfect... Let's all meet in the middle and we can
agree this is satisfying a little bit about what let's all meet in the middle and we can agree this is like
this this is this is satisfying a little bit about everybody what everybody wants to see in the US
Open. Yeah TC anything to add? No I loved it. Yeah good place to grind. Wouldn't want to play
there every week. TC was in the fairway. He had a very different experience than I had on this golf course.
Yeah, I've remained resolute more so than ever that Dustin Johnson's
72nd hole there is the greatest golf ever played and a lot more variety than I was anticipating.
You got to really buckle up that 6, 7, 8,. And then some of those new little peninsulas and wings coming off certain bunkers
or, you know, the greens have just a ton of ton of variety there. It was fantastic. So can't can't wait to unpack it further
in the lead up to the US Open.
Awesome. On the on the Aaron Hills front is awesome to
just kind of start to process that they're going to have a major like 45 minutes from my house. I can't wait for that in a couple weeks. I got to play
with Mike Wan, which was a thrill and delight. Never gotten to play golf with him. Absolute stick,
man. He moves it. Yeah. You didn't talk about someone needs a golf ball rolled back. Hitting
with that one about four, 500 times, I would say. You got done dirty on 15, though, right?
He did himself dirty on 15. We were standing on the tee and it was like, it was too...
Is that the short four?
It is. It was 275.
TC's eyes buried under there.
275 front. And it was a real just like not playing a match, nothing on the line, no groups
score, like no anything.
It was just like, dude, what are we?
Of course we got to ship.
The caddies are like, yeah, I mean, you can definitely get to the front.
Or I guess you could just like hit a six iron out there for like,
if you're trying to like hang a meaningless score.
And so we all shipped it up there.
And yeah, Mike was Mike was kind of undone by, by 15 in a very similar way
that that TC was, unfortunately.
I didn't even try to shake him.
That's a good point. It's just very cool to see how that golf course, and start thinking about how that golf course
can play differently than the men's US Open. There's so many of those greens that are so elevated and perched up.
And with the women, you know, it's kind of a generalization, but with the women just coming in with like lower ball flights and less spin,
I think it's just going to play a lot more interesting. There's a lot more places where the balls can run off.
And I feel like the, you know, you guys can check me on this, but outside of the US Women's Open,
the occasional KPMG, you know, the golf courses that they're going to on the LPGA,
there's just not that much of a chance to have
very creative short game on display.
It's a lot of thick rough and a lot of just
slide the lob wedge under it and try to get it to stop.
And I'm thinking about all kinds of different holes
on Aaron Hills where it's like,
man, there's four different options here.
You can take it off the high slope, you can hit a bump,
you can try to hit big high soft lob,
hopefully it doesn't run back to your feet.
Like it's just gonna be really, really fun
to see the women tested in a very different way.
So pumped for that.
And like you guys said on Oakmont,
we'll have much more content around the US Women's Open.
So thanks to the USGA for having us to both of those.
They do such a good job on that.
That might be a tough one to set up for the USGA. I don't envy them.
No, what's really interesting, again, we'll talk more about this later,
but they were talking about the setup and it's interesting having it in late May because you're
kind of right between seasons. I don't know if I'll get this right, but the prevailing wind during
the spring, I think is out of the east and the prevailing wind in the summers out of the west.
And they're in this place where they kind of think they're going to be in between.
And they're like, I think it's just going to come out of all four directions over those
four days, which makes it really hard to set up, but so interesting to try to solve.
And I think what's also cool about it is there you know, there's like, you guys know this
about the women's game, like everybody just drives it
so fucking straight that there's no golf course
that's gonna intimidate them off the tee.
So in a fun way, it's almost like the exact opposite
of Oakmont where it's like, cool, just concede
that everybody's gonna hit pretty much every fairway
and like just make it a second,
like a real proper second shot golf course.
Yeah. Which I think is gonna be awesome. much every fairway and like just make it a second like a real proper second shot golf course. Yeah,
which I think is going to be awesome. Because even then, there's doglegs. Yeah, over some of those big humps and bumps that are blind as hell. I'm thinking about what's that eight or eight and 12
are kind of like inverses of each other. Yeah. So yeah, I will have a lot more but I think it's
going to be a really, really good test and I was already excited just for the proximity and the people and all of that.
But now I'm like even more excited just because of the golf.
I think it's going to be a cracking U.S.
Women's Open, Randy. I can't wait.
Yeah, just if it's a little breezy and hopefully not too wet, I think it'll be really, really good.
A couple of housekeeping things. The NLU Summer Festival is coming.
TC, I know you've been at work with Casey.
On this one, we're going to be announcing the NLU Summer
Festival details this Friday in our weekly newsletter.

Go to newsletter.nolayingup.com to take care of that.
A couple other things.
Episode 1000, I mentioned it off the top.
Episode 1000 is live. Very fun. Lots of fun reaction to that one. Lots of fun stories and
background and just lots of laughs in that one. Go check that out. Next Thursday, we've got our
NLU Live at the PGA Championship in Charlotte. Cody, you got some information on this for the folks?
Yeah, I think everybody's heard me shout it out a couple times,
but we are going to be live round one coverage.
This, our normal live from the Kill House,
but we're taking it to an in-person venue.
So we're going to be at Platform Sports in Charlotte.
You can find more information on our socials, everything else.
Their door's open about 4 o'clock.
TV coverage is supposed to end about 7 Eastern,
but I suggest kind of showing up a little bit early.
But we'll be there hanging out watching coverage as it winds down
and then kicking it off normal show time.
And if people cannot make it, of course,
it'll be live just like normal, but very, very excited.
And then we'll also be live again on Sunday night.
A little recapping, all things golf this week
with another live show.
Guys, that's all I got.
Anybody got anything else?
I said we went six minutes over.
I had to put six bonus minutes in this fucking hat.
And the Creator Classic is officially underway
and it's started and we are eating into it as we speak so. Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy the Masters. The creator classic is
