Be the right club. Be the right club today.
Yes!
Johnny, that's better than most.
How about the end? That is better than most.
Better than most!
Expect anything different?
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Laying Up live show presented as always
by our friends at high noon.
Solly here.
God, we got a lot of golf to talk about.
My guy TC already grinning ear to ear.
Hello Mr. TC.
Tough, tough chain of events for you Solly.
First, first, Ryder called block, Sepp Straka and then Foxy.
Absolutely stunting.
Proper player.
Love to see it.
Go ahead, DJ is here as well. Hello, Mr. Deege.
Hey, Solly, good to be with you. Great weekend here in Milwaukee. Sun's out, walking around
enjoying my wife's first Mother's Day today. Happy Mother's Day to all the ladies listening
and now we get to talk golf. Who's got it better than us, guys? Good to be with you. Likewise. I join you in wishing all of the mothers a happy Mother's Day and
thank you for spending your Sunday evening with us. Guys, have you heard? High Noon has
a new non-carbonated vodka iced tea pack. This is the Lake Pack. It introduces two new
exciting flavors, green tea, also the half and half.
I just did a live taste test on here.
These just came in the mail.
TC came over earlier today and I gave him a couple of these.
He couldn't even get home before he had to taste it.
He had a sip out back while I was getting a little workout in.
It made it sound like he was drinking and driving home.
I'm glad you cleared that up.
It lives very, very, very close to me.
It also is joined by the classic original tea and the peach tea flavors
It brings together real vodka and crisp ice tea packed up for maximum flavor to bring you wherever your day takes you visit
High noon spirits comm to find a pack near you high noon suns up. Do you see been playing a little golf lately as well?
I think you got any any reports on how on how your house stuff was performing for you in
southern hemisphere?
Sorry. I mean, southern hemisphere, it was good. It traveled with me up to the northern
hemisphere and played in the wind down in the southern hemisphere, holding the ball
up against the wind. It's gnarly stuff coming off the ocean down in New Zealand. Shout out
to Foxy. And then at Oakmont, it was Drench City USA,
and the ball was absolutely performing for me as well. And I'm in the Pro V1. I have total
confidence in the wind with this thing. And I think the other thing I've really noticed over the last,
I don't know, really the last three or four months is how dialed in my half wedge shots are getting,
or those kind of 80% wedges that it's one hop and stop. It's not bleeding out at all after that first hop. So could not
be more pleased with how my golf ball is performing right now. I feel like I've got total control
of it.
That is of course the Titleist Pro V1. You can find out which golf ball is best for you
at Titleist.com. Get fit. Get fit for everything,
including your golf ball. We got fit into these several years ago and it just, it gives you like
a lot better confidence that like somebody has looked at your data and been like, this is what
you should be in. Like chances are you're probably pretty unqualified to figure this out on your own.
I'm pretty unqualified to figure this out on my own. So it's just-
You're in the Pro V solid, correct?
I'm in the Pro V one as well. Exactly.
And then DJ's in the X.
I play the X, but hearing Sully say that,
I realized for how many years, I was like,
you know, I think I'm gonna play the Pro V1
because I like the box better.
Like, I'm just gonna play those.
You know, the titleist people are good friends of titles.
They're like, maybe that's not a good way to go about it.
Why don't you try this Pro V1X?
And instead, I'm with you, TC.
We got to play some golf over in Ireland,
Northern Ireland, and you know, in a little bit of wind,
and you can flight those wedges the way that you want.
They're not gonna balloon on you.
You're playing the right kind of golf ball,
and you're gonna play a little better.
So, shout out to our friends at Titleist.
Deidre, why don't you take us around the world
for some golf results?
I would love to, Sully.
On the PGA Tour, of course, our guy, my guy, your guy, Sep Straka becomes a four times a winner. A win for the
Balds. You guys look a lot alike. A win for the Balds. Both
from Georgia. A win for the probably the soon to be Balds,
I'm going to guess with Foxy down at Myrtle Beach at the
One Flight Myrtle Beach Classic. Over on the DP World Tour,
Martine Couvre, young French Garçon, wins the Turkish
Airlines Open. Interesting, interesting.
Presented by Eric Adams.
First stops, always, always Istanbul. On the LPGA, Gino
Titicum wins the Mizuho Americas Open up at the Torch. On the
L.E.T., H.J. Kim defends her title the Aramco
Korea Championship and on the Epson Tour are one of our
favorites Sophia Popoff wins the Carlisle Arizona women's
golf classic but gentlemen we're going to start with the
truest where Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka entered the final
round tied at the top 14 under they were going to square off
in the final pairing three clear of
JT and Keith Mitchell playing on a sponsor exemption this
week. Sep made eagle on the fifth before it got a little
you know and then took a little deeper on eight and nine with
a couple birdies a couple bumps in the road there in the
middle of the round on ten and eleven with a couple of back
to back bogeys but a big birdie on the par 4 15th,
bumped him back to 16 under, took the lead when Shane Lowry pulled his tee shot on
the par 3 16th, couldn't get up and down and then he kind of gassed it along.
Shane went for the win there on 18, but left himself six,
seven feet coming back and kind of took the drama out of it.
So, Sully, let me start with you.
What did we see from our guy Sep today?
Four time winner on the PGA Tour,
now the only other multiple champion,
or multiple time winner this year,
how would you say that,
along with Rory this year on the PGA Tour?
This is the fourth career win for Sep Strokka.
This is the first BDE.
This is the first big win for Sep Strokka,
and I'm glad to see him take this leap. His
previous wins included the Honda, the John Deere, and the American Express. I think we
can all agree this enters a completely different class.
Those are indicators though. Spieth, Duvall, you know, you can like, people who win those
events. This is what we've been trying to tell you, man. These are either points or
ten big things down the road.
He's winning on different kinds of golf courses, too.
Yeah, sorry, cut you off.
Continue.
Winning on golf courses that aren't like you
need to have a certain level of length
to be able to perform here, I think, is the answer to that.
But no, he's completely stepped up his game in the past year.
He kind of took a big step back in 2024
after that Ryder Cup year.
And he was my West Coast MVP. Not only did he win out there, but he just
had a really great run in that stretch of tournaments. Missed
the cut to Masters, which was, you know, a little bit of air
coming out of this of the of the parachute there, but huge
bounce back huge win. I'm stoked for him. I there's very, very
little reason to dislike Sepp Straka. And he just seems to be
kind of bullying people this year. Second the Fed
X Cup now, which is kind of ridiculous. We are not early in
the year. I think we can, you know, we won't be kind of go
through the halfway point, right? We can kind of go through
the Fed. I mean, yeah, there's there's, I don't know, maybe in
events wise, but there's still a lot more points to be had kind
of in this back half stretch, and whatnot. But I mean, joins
an illustrious list of signature event winners this year. It's a
it's a it's kind of been bangers only and he slammed the door
today. It was really good stuff.
Very enjoyable to watch kind of an unexpected duel that I really
enjoyed watching Lowry versus Straka. You know, I know in a
lot of these signature events, you're hoping for kind of the
Rory Ludwig Xander more Akawa, you know, we did have JT was up there. But like, I hoping for kind of the Rory Ludwig, Xander, Morikawa.
We did have JT was up there, but I really enjoyed kind of the two big guys throwing
punches at each other all day.
It was great stuff.
TC, that had to be up your alley.
I loved it.
I thought it was a great week.
I was a little concerned after Thursday with golf course kind of getting neaten up and
hearing some stuff about the Philly Cricket, ronomy staff, and the tour setup staff kind of
button heads a little bit over watering and pins and stuff like that. But it kind of evened out
on Saturday. I thought Saturday and Sunday, the course played wonderfully.
When kicking up on Saturday, that was really fun.
But no, overall, yeah. I don't know. I've come come to really like Sep He's a good. He's a good interview. He's a good dude. It seems like he's just you know, he was there when I
Went when I went down the four soups in the taproom. He was he was a table over
I was marveling at that. Maybe that inspired him onward to you know, these two wins this year
But yeah, I think like he putted his ass off this week. I think he
was what first in putting second putting 8.66 strokes gained on the greens. Didn't chip it
particularly well. Yeah, yeah, that zebra putter that like everybody's grandpa had in their garage,
you know, price. Yeah. Yeah. But sorry, I gotta ask you, Ryder Cub lock. At this point,
I think he's very, very, very likely to be on the team at this point.
I think if he lost the draft between now and then, I think there's still a chance.
I mean, he's still way back on the points list just because he doesn't really
support the DP World Tour.
And I think it'd be a shock if he lost the game between now and then.
Shrocka doesn't support the DP World Tour.
I still think it was premature to call him a lock for the Ryder Cup several months ago.
Not if you're seeing what we're seeing, man.
Did you call him a lock? You weren't even on that show.
I wasn't on. I didn't get the chance. Of course I would have.
Of course.
Of course I would have.
He went, I don't know, anytime you get a chance I I he went I don't know anytime you get a chance to put somebody
I don't know kind of like your ninth or tenth best player who went one and two at the last Ryder Cup to lock any
Chance you get to lock that in six months. Oh, you got to take it
You just can't miss that window you absolutely cannot so I'm stoked for you guys that you got that one locked in
Thank you. And you know, it seems like we got some other locks to
pain Tommy Rory all doing big things all in the top ten unlocked it. Thank you. And you know, it seems like we got some other locks to pain, Tommy,
Rory, all doing big things all in the top 10. Tommy, five this week, Stephen Yeager, Nicholas
Norgaard played well down down at Myrtle Beach. He's got an outside can Foxy get some sort of
Commonwealth exemption or something. We're gonna look into that. Yeah. It's actually fun to be on this site. You know, me times I've wound myself about how good the Americans are playing in May, the So I was just going to look up, and I'm sorry for doing this live, but what is Sep done
in the majors?
Because I know he's a guy that flushes it, he's a guy that drives it very straight, but
that accuracy, no distance is not always what you're kind of looking for in the majors.
So as much as I would love to keep ramping up that like...
I'm just getting word.
He was runner up at Liverpool, tied with Tom Kim.
I'm just receiving word on that one. That had not come across my desk. I'm glad you said that. It was runner up at Liverpool, tied with Tom Kim. I'm just receiving word on that one.
That had not come across my desk.
I'm glad you said that.
It was.
Well, I'd put the other proper player.
T7 would be a good fit for Port Rush.
Tom Kim.
Honestly.
Yeah.
T7 at the 2023 PGA, but I don't know.
I mean, it seems like he's kind of sort of turning in the right direction other than
that miscut at the Masters.
I don't know.
But my point was, I don't know if this necessarily changes anything for next week. I mean, I think he was probably on a decent amount of radars.
I don't know that he's kind of in that quote, that first round draft pick, you know, I don't
know that he's quite in that class. But TC, I think there's some value in there for some
GMs who are who are looking for a value quail necessarily. I don't know. I was asking for
something. I would take him at Oakmont or Port Rush over
Quail for sure. I think it's just that, I mean, he's below average distance, right? And this week
was, I think we didn't know what to expect with Philly Cricket Club. And I think there was
room with this kind of setup. So it's kind of weird how I think technically this stuff works
and somebody who's deeper into the stats can correct me on this But like this seems like the width of fairway where accuracy matters
Like if you get to a certain if it gets too wide
The Bombers get their balls that stay at the edge of the edge of the fairways and if it gets too narrow
Nobody hits the fairways and everybody just bombs it ahead, but about this width
Accuracy can matter like near field village weirdly threads that gap really well
It is a course where accuracy matters and the penalty for missing the
fairways is relatively strong there. This, without having the information and the
data in from this week, this seems like it fit that mold to say like it's set up
for a really good championship. Nearfield Village usually sets up for a really,
really good championship and I, not to transition this into Philly Cricket, but
what made the duel really fun today was the consequence of all the shots.
I felt that from basically every single approach shot.
How many times guys like pulled approach shots left of greens today and
it was like, fucked, no chance, no chance there.
Like could not afford to hit it there, JT on 16.
Shane Lowry could not afford to hit that ball there.
I don't know, for a golf course that had such wide open fronts to the greens and
You know had these big-ass greens these were like the third either since the third easiest greens to hit on the PGA Tour so far
This year, I thought Philly cricket held up so freaking well
And it added just another layer to the kind of duel we were watching today
Where just felt like every shot had consequence and had a bleeding effect. Whereas way too many tour courses, it just kind of seems like,
Hey, miss, but he can get that up and down over there. That's not that bad. I just felt that every
time I had the golf on this week was like, Ooh, I can't wait to see what he does with this one.
Because that is not a simple shot there. I thought the 1415 combo was spectacular,
especially today with the shorter, it was what 95 yards.
Shortest, because the PGA tour, is that what they said?
In the Shotlink era, I think since they had that.
Which cool too, because like it's like, it wasn't easy either.
Like you had to really like control your spin into there.
And then I think like the greens were, were fast.
They just weren't quite to the firmness.
I think they got a bad, bad draw as far as the weather goes.
Last, last couple of weeks up there.
Um, but yeah, I like, they needed, they need to get back to Philly
cricket for, for something in soon.
Did you like it at this time of year?
Was there anything that, that was kind of the only thing was like, I wonder if
you get to late July, August, if you can push it to, you know, whether it's a
playoff event or something, but maybe get the rough a little thicker, get hopefully things a
little faster, maybe a joy, you know, avoid some of those thunderstorms early in the week would be
that's the only change I'd make. Other than that, it was, it was great, man.
Agree. Yeah, I think maybe a BMW. Yeah, I think that would fit a lot. I,
I'm curious. And we got a bunch of questions
You know on this like what other what others are other annual tour, you know
What other stops whether courses would would would you like to see kind of similar to Philly cricket?
And it's like
Ironic was kind of supposed to be this in 2018 when it went there and it rained so hard
I mean it was just like
Drenched city USA. What next year? It's gonna be a major which I'm still very confused how they're gonna work. I was
pretty underwhelmed by a Rodham make to be honest, I think
Philly crickets. I think it's better better golf course. But
I think it Yeah, to your point, like the BMW rotated up to
a Rodham make in 2018. And I'd like to see it rotate to
somewhere like Philly cricket. But it's also like Philly
cricket. It is short, like it is like, probably too short. I thought Philly Cricket. But it's also like, Philly Cricket, it is short. Like it is like probably too short.
I thought it still played interesting,
but some of these holes, guys just hitting driver
and then pitching up onto the green.
Now there was, you know, they were able to do enough stuff
with pins and whatnot to mitigate the scoring.
The winds helped a little bit, but like you saw it
kind of Thursday, Friday, when the winds weren't up as high.
Like it was kind of just, you know,
pin your ears back and go get it. Like I still think there's probably, there's room for an architect, architecturally significant and strategic golf course like this that has a little bit more length, uh, to really kind of elevate a particular event.
But, um, I, I don't, for a lot of the questions, like, should the Truist just stay here forever?
Like, I hate to report the Truist is based in Charlotte. And like the reason that they're sponsoring that tournament is to
have an event in Charlotte at Quail Hollow. Like it's going
right back to Quail Hollow for the very foreseeable future.
Philly Cricket showed off enough that I think there should be
golf in this region, but I just it will not be this event.
Unfortunately,
there was a very, I hate to call him out because I love the guy.
But Taylor's Arzer was talking on Gary Williams five clubs show this week about how
Charlotte is starved for professional. DJ texted over the gym, Kavisal, Mel Gibson.
Just being close to Chicago. I'm like, Chicago, Boston, every year, the entire Pacific Northwest.
If I can fill in, what I think he meant was like,
there's a massive market for golf in the area
and it's accurate.
I think it's just, starved was probably not the way,
because I think people are well fed in that region.
I think Charlotte may need to go on a Zim.
Professional golf.
Going back to your 14th hole, by the way,
I was just looking this up,
but 95 yards today played to scoring average of 2.88.
14 birdies, six bogeys.
Yeah, that's great.
That's awesome.
Even that, like that's where like, again,
not everybody cares about this kind of stuff,
but it was not just a dart fest in there.
And if you want, it was a little bit downwind downwind And if you wanted like that green was firm enough that if you wanted to hold it short of the ridge you had to risk
Going in that front bunker. It looks like there's only maybe four balls went in that front bunker
Or you know and maybe only six or seven guys ended up short of that pin all day
But it was like it was hard
It was a short enough shot that it was hard to get enough spin on it
To get guys to get to rip back down that slope.
And credit to the ground staff for getting the course of that dried out for how much rain in the week,
because it was Rip City USA for the earlier part of the week, and it was just kind of dull.
But that shot, that was, all right, what are you going to do? You got to make up a shot.
You got to make up a shot somewhere here if you're chasing for behind, if you're JT, like do you take it on here? Do you take it on on 16 when you got five iron in your hand?
Like the whole kind of chess match
has worked out really, really well.
To that end, the thing that's like
almost never gonna come through
if you're just kind of watching five minutes,
10 minutes, 20 minutes of a broadcast at a time is,
I love the spin control stuff.
When you start on Thursday as like,
oh my God, this place is soaked,
this thing's gonna rip back 30 feet. And then you get to Sunday and it's oh my God, this place is soaked. This thing's going to rip back 30 feet.
And then you get to Sunday and it's like,
ooh, this thing is going to either hold its place
or maybe even pitch forward a little bit.
Watching that course change,
like I was going back through today
and just watching a lot of the Thursday rounds,
Friday round, Saturday rounds
to kind of see how the course was changing.
And that's such a like underrated element of,
especially a golf course like this,
where the conditions change that much throughout the week
Probably not a shock to see like Sep JT Lowry can't lay Tommy like some
Yeah, like really good ball strikers really good finesse iron players
Towards the top of the end or got better like Xander shot 66 today burger
You know and that's also credit to the contouring on these greens,
right? Like the tier, like they're big ass greens. I mean,
we saw a lot of set shots on the back nine today. They were on
the safe side of all these tiers. He's putting up the hill
and you know, easy parts. That's how you play with a lead. But it
was like, those shots are, they're easy to hit the green,
but they're hard to hit the right section of it. And I think
the, you know, the greens had a little bite to them, but
probably with a probably with an
extra layer of speed could have been really, really, really interesting. When they played
the senior players there, it was like spicy as hell. I mean, it was like bowling alley type
firmness, which was awesome. I thought too, I was a little bit concerned that some of the grandstands were
going to be very much in play. That really wasn't the case. I thought they did a great job with
setup. All my Philly fans came out, they were riding. I saw between Nance doing the Fly Eagles
Fly, and then they were doing all sorts of Hermann Meyer, the Herminator, and Franz Klammer. I was loving the
broadcast today. And I thought they did a really good job with the routing as well, starting
that finishing stretch. I thought just wide variety of shots down the stretch. I think
it's really starting with like 13 cool hole and then 14 to yard, par three, and then 15 with the great hazard, par five.
JT, that's where he came undone a little bit. He needed that one splashing out of that bunker and
misses the putt there. And then 16, perfect counterpoint to 14. It was 225 yard, par three.
I thought that's where Sep hit a brilliant a brilliant shot there, you know, coming
down the stretch and then 17 and 18 is kind of hang on for dear life. A couple of 500 plus par
fours. If you tune into the back nine only today, you probably didn't feel the shortness of the golf
course come into play nearly as much. They did a good job with it. You kind of hide it a little
bit earlier in the broadcast.
Maybe the first two holes essentially like drivable.
I just love like a lot of our interactions,
especially when we're not on site,
and especially when it's a golf course
none of us have been to before is like a lot of times
your interaction with the place is the whole pickles,
like the graphics from the live scoring or something.
And it's just like so hard to pick up what's going on. But I know I'll tee you up for one of your favorite things.
I know.
But the drone tracer this week, especially on 17, as you watch
SEPs ball where it's just like, okay, man, he's just going to
hit this power cut that is going to it's got to fit between
these two bunkers.
Here's the challenge.
He's got to if he's going to fade it, he's got to carry this
one. And just being able to see that and piece it all together
in your mind is like, oh fade it, he's got to carry this one and just being able to see that and piece it all together in your
mind is like, oh, man, that's the challenge. It just got it
just makes the whole thing so much more three dimensional. So
I know like on the par threes was great to just Yeah. Well,
it's another thing here. And this is an image shown up here
of this. They had a behind the green radan tracer earlier in
the week when speech was hitting this shot. It was just like,
while the ball is in the air, I'm like, Oh, gosh, I'd love to see this. Oh, they're doing it. They're doing thean tracer earlier in the week when Spieth was hitting this shot. It was just like, while the ball's in the air, I'm like, oh gosh, I'd love to see this.
Oh, they're doing it.
They're doing the trow tracer on this one.
And then short grass behind the green too.
Yeah.
But it's also like the difference between this and Torrey, which we pick on a lot
is like the hole is like this.
And then the bunkers are just right there on either side, miss left or right.
And you're in a bunker.
Whereas if you look closer here, the bunkers are staggered, right? Where it's like, all right, if I'm doing
this club, that bunkers in play. Ideally, in some of these bunkers, you can just blow it right over.
And if I hit it, this club, this left bunker is going to be in play like Sepp Straka. I forget
which I think it was on 12. And they're talking about like he cannot cover this right bunker on
this line. Like, so he's got to play farther left with this one like that. That's just another layer of
again, why not to do the technology thing, but like those bunkers should matter. Like they should not be able to just blow it over them because that's the whole point of where they're putting them exactly to drive the strategy.
But that was the most depressing part about Rory's quotes this week. Like, you know, they, they did this renovation to Animal King 10 years ago, Keith Foster, and he, Keith Foster, and it's already irrelevant for the
pros.
It's crazy.
The only defense was like, I don't think they did that renovation for the pros.
I don't think there was plans to bring-
I think they kept it in mind for sure.
Yeah, maybe.
That was pretty early on in the restoration stuff too, which props to them.
It was brilliant.
They did a brilliant job.
Well, getting back to the leaderboard a little bit here, we had Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas,
both T2.
TC, is your guy Shane Lowry a bottler? What's the issue here, man? I don't know. I don't know what's going on. I don't think you met with media afterwards either, which I didn't didn't
love either. Uh, I don't know. Yeah, Shane. I mean, he lost
500 K on the last green with the three putt there. That was
tough. You know, bogeys on 16 bogeys on 18 bogey eight as
well. Eight was white. I don't know. I don't know. I don't
know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.
I don't know. I don't know. I was, that was tough. You know, bogeys
on 16, bogeys on 18, uh, bogeyed eight as well. Eight was what? Like 250 yards though.
So, uh, I don't know. I mean, you know, Shane's, Shane's, Shane's won a major, like, you know,
I kind of, Shane's just one I can't figure out. Like I think even back to that Firestone
win that he had, it was just kind of like, I can never
really call when Shane is going to play well or not.
What's crazy is just, I mean, he's one of those guys like his floor is just so high,
right?
Like he's always going to play well.
It's just, it's hard to know when he's going to have like a really good chance to win.
You know, I feel like he's, he's always putting himself in position and yeah, when he, so
it's almost worse when he doesn't get it done because you see him so
much, you know, he obviously won the open at poor rush from 2019.
He won the BMW PGA in 2022. He won the Zurich a team event last
year. Those are his only two wins he's had in the last six
years. While playing really freaking good golf, like really
consistently good golf.
I never touched a big big tone syndrome, maybe.
I don't think we can say that anymore. I think we would say
that that's the Tommy Fleetwood.
And she feels like I think he feels like six wins a little bit
of like a souped up version of of of Sep. Right? Like, you
know, a little bit longer than Sep, but similar profile, like
really good iron player.
I think that's Yeah, I think that's right. Didn't put as well
this week. That was kind of the difference.
Yeah, I mean, I think seps got a ways to go to kind of match.
Match the consistency that Shane is not that far off, though,
like, you know, on your current version of Sep is really
freaking good. Like it current version of Sep is like a stroke
better per round
than he was in 2023. We made the router cup. Like that's a
does a different dude. He is like, he's and that's not even
counting this past week like his, his stroke his approach
play for this year has got to be one of the best in in all of
golf. He's plus 1.18. That's like peak more a cow. That's
sep strakka approach play so far this year. God, I hope we get
some peak more callous we can keep chipping away at that eight major total
Lot
Could it go I would suggest he goes hard on these next three TC seem like seem like good fits top three iron players
Currently in the world over the last six months
Scotty plus one point four Colin plus one point three five sep plus one point one eight
That's not counting today or this week.
Flush her.
Pretty remarkable.
Absolutely flusher.
But yeah, Shane should have,
Shane should have been in a playoff today, probably.
Like that's, you know, and then JT,
like it should have probably been a three-way playoff
between JT, Sep, and Shane.
JT had a weird day yesterday, that 66 in the wind, I don't know if you guys saw that. I think it was the first part five yesterday where he's kind of like straddling the fence and trying to hack out.
I think he bogeyed to the part five or both.
Yesterday is just 66.
But he is I can report flushing it sixth in approach this week heading back to Quail Hollow where he won his first major.
I don't know if you guys saw that. I was just chuffed 66. But he is, I can report flushing it sixth in approach this week,
heading back to Quail Hollow where he won his first major.
I don't know.
Got to like it, man.
A couple of those, a couple of the wonky little short putts
weren't great to see.
I know he's turned his putting around largely the last couple
of weeks, but you know, still 20, what 27
kind of middle ish of the road.
It's always this week in putting which has to not be an idiot on
the greens and he's going to be very much in contention, like
which I think is one of the things shout to Philly cricket
was like actual slope on five and six footers. Yep, for sure.
You know, instead of dudes look perplexed over this course this
weekend, I mean, especially Saturday.
Nance said it Saturdays, like,
I can't recall a broadcast where we've seen
more short putts missed.
I don't know if that was the most accurate statistically,
but it did feel that way.
It was like, absolutely nothing was getting in the hole.
Yeah.
Who's, let me ask you this, Solly.
Who's, if you're doing a PGA championship draft board right now who's ahead of j t on your draft board?
Rory Scottie.
Shoulder Sanders.
Sure.
The Pope available.
Like that's kind of where I was like, I think it's Rory Scottie
and like maybe nobody else.
What's the odds? What are the odds? Say is he feel like Xander is heating up? I was like, I think it's Rory Scotty and like maybe nobody else.
What's the odds? What are the odds say? Is he feel like Xander is heating up? I feel
like can't lays heating up there. They're heating up TC, but I don't know. He can't
be Xander JT head to head next week. TC. I think I'm taking I'm taking JT. That's where
I'm kind of wild. Right. I think I'm taking Xander. I think Xander might be on the cusp of officially back
put that in your black book.
You see in Xander Xander DB, Cory Connors and he all tied for
11.
The odds as of right now, subject to change, of course,
courtesy of the fan drill sports book, Scotty Shepard plus 400
Rory plus 450. We did forget about Bryson plus 1100. Sure. John Rom plus
1800 Xander plus 2000 Ludwig plus 2000 JT plus 2200. Should,
should JT be behind Ludwig?
Yeah. I mean, TC no spin zone here. Who are you? Or JT right
now?
here who are you taking Ludwig or JT right now at Quill?
Man Ludwig's I don't know Ludwig's uh his putter really spooked me this week
lost about four shots in the green he was 65th in the field in putting that in his iron play was shit too he lost like four and a half shots with his irons this week too so yeah he was you
know he wasn't even allowed to miss the cut. That was like, you know, that was your whole thing
when he was missing the cut on purpose before the masters, right? Um, no, I, I don't know. I,
I still go back. I think that norovirus that he had on the West coast swing kind of put him in a
blender for a while. And I do think his floor is lower than it's been in recent, in the first couple of years of
his career.
So we'll see.
I think I'm still buying a big summer for Ludwig though.
I'm going to give you guys seven numbers.
I'm going to give you the numbers, strokes gained for JT's seven best seasons.
I'll see if you guys can pick out where you think he is this year.
Okay. you guys can pick out where you think he is this year. Okay, so seven best seasons 2.31 2.23 2.2 to 1.97 1.96 1.92 1.90. I
bet he's a 2.22.
I was 1.97.
He's 196 really good guesses and he's going to be over two as
of tomorrow morning probably like he he's his current season
blends in really really well with his peak from 2017 to
2022 and 2003 and and 2024 look a lot more like outliers right now than which is like if you looked
at speaths it would look like inverse like his 15 through 17 is outrageous whereas everything since
then has just been kind of okay man jt might be might be underrated, man. I agree.
I agree.
That's a fun Ludwig.
I'll be curious to see how much the form versus the course fit stuff matters at Quill Hollow.
If Ludwig, it should be a perfect setup for him, But I think Ludwig might be saving himself
for Oakmont as well.
I guess we'll see.
We'll see.
Salih, should we pay some bills?
What do you think?
We should.
I don't know, we'll stop in for a word
from our friends at Omni Hotels and Resorts,
the official hotel of no laying up.
Spring golf is here.
Summer golf is knocking on the door.
There's no better time to start planning your next bucket list golf trip. One
course we want to put on your radar is the newly renovated Oak Marsh golf course
at Omnia Amelia Resort. It's officially reopening for public play this month.
I'm supposed to get up there in the next couple of weeks. The course has been
refreshed by Bo Welling Design to honor Pete Dye's iconic original layout,
bringing it up to speed for the modern game. Nestled on over 1,300 acres of oceanfront property in northeast Florida, the $7.4 million
renovation features rebuilt greens, repositioned bunkers, expanded native areas, and a flexible
new ribbon tee system offering nearly unlimited teeing options. Whether you're in it for the
views, the challenge, or the history, this is one you don't want to miss. Speaking of iconic venues,
the countdown to the NCAA championships at Omni you don't want to miss. And speaking of iconic venues, the countdown to
the NCAA championships at Omni LaCosta's famed North course
is officially nearing its end. From May 17 to 29, we'll see the
top collegiate players take on a layout brought back to life by
Gil Hans in a stunning 2024 renovation with 13 Omni golf
destinations and 28 courses and short courses at your disposal.
What are you waiting for? Head to omnihotels.com slash golf
to play the possibilities.
Doing some great stuff.
Stoked truth, Marsh.
Very, very excited for that one.
Going down the leaderboard a little bit,
Patrick Cantlay, T4.
I hope our, I'm thinking hard about our friends
at FanDuel this week.
I hope they're not going out of business
with all the hundreds of thousands of people
tailing my Patrick Cantlay top five
And of course my JT is gonna hit it closest to the pin in his group at hole eight in round one both of which were
smash
Successes this week, but TC well this week overall. It was actually pretty good. It was actually good this week TC
What once you let's start with Cantlay? I know you were high on him coming into this week as well,
but then why don't we just go down the leaderboard a little bit?
Yeah, Solly was even higher on him than I was. But yeah, the Pat in the Hat, I think he's rounding
into form. He started to play very, very good golf after kind of a lackluster season last year.
So I'm going to look at the Hat, bookend 65s. It's not great. It's like- Course history history at Quail Hollow. Have you looked at it?
Kind of average. Yeah. It's tough. The tour website, you can finally do the course thing
or whatever where you can go to each course, but it divides it into PGA championship.
Yeah. Quail Hollow starting starting this is in reverse order.
So starting with last year, T29 T21 cut T33 at the 2017 PGA.
So kind of I think he's got a top 10 there.
I think he's got one top 10 at some point there.
So anyway, I think he's loading up the tool belt.
He's getting ready to sharpen some of his blades and stuff. I, you know, all good there. Sorry. I mean, God,
what were you complaining about on the tour website this week? Couldn't find the,
Oh, I wanted to look up like you can't, there's nowhere that shows like the list of, of who has
the most tour wins. Like there's, you can go to the Wikipedia page, but it doesn't go below 17.
Like I was like, all right, let's welcome Sepp Strock into the 4-win club. Who else
has 4-win? Can't find that anywhere. If you can please send it to me. I don't
think that exists. That's privileged information. I tried to ask chat GPT. They gave me one of
the worst lists I've ever seen. I truly think that that is information that
they're probably trying to hide your guy Sam Snead. With all his fluffer victories.
That might be what it is.
I think sincerely, I'm not joking, I think that's probably the problem.
That's a pre-1983.
Just like, fuck, does that count or not count?
Does that guy have two or does that guy have six?
Yeah, I think that's where the Hornet's Nest comes from.
But I digress.
TC.
Shout out to Jacob Bridgman 6565 on the weekend.
To not win. You know, remarkable.
What was the record for most feet of putt made in a single
week that I kind of was half in half out watching when this when
they were going over this but he made 531 feet of putts this
week. Like Randy, I don't know if that's a lot.
He's number one in putting. It sounds like a lot. Yeah, it's really good. He made
199 feet of putts on Saturday alone, then another 141 today.
It's a you know, it's a shout out shout out to our guy Junior
Bridgman was also good from downtown. Right? Feel me?
Just Tommy, are you you going to celebrate this?
No, Tommy. Yeah, he set up the back door to perfection T4. A little cut down for DJs.
Pat in the hat top five play three guys. I think his play included ties. I think we're fine with him. Okay. But yeah, 67, 65 on the weekend to not win. Pretty clean card overall. He was sixth in
putting, which I love to see guys. We're trending. I don't think Quail Hollow,
probably not the best fit for him, but he's saving himself for, I think Oakmont and Port Rush are
two of the best looks that he's had at majors in years
You guys had a stat
Earlier that you were floating around courtesy of J. Ray or Tommy's and these are just numbers TC. These are just numbers
This is Justin Ray, of course most top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour without a win in the last 40 years
So not that big of a sample size
the PGA Tour without a win in the last 40 years. So not that big of a sample size.
Only 40 years. But Tommy Fleetwood has 40, including today.
Brett Quigley, your boy TC, has 34 and Graham DeLay,
DeLette, I'm sure we'll hear DeLette either way, has 33.
So he's expanding his lead in this dubious category.
Yeah. He's got all sorts of's if we're counting World Tour stuff, he's got the Kazakhstan Open.
I was at that.
He's also British part three championship, which I think we
need to dig in on.
He's playing great golf right now.
And you guys, you know what I did, TC, I went back and listened
to the first 10 minutes of the pod we did
after Big Tone won the Northern Trust. And just to hear what we put up against it. It's
going to be a tough one for you. Not only he had won and you were like, look how many
times Dustin Johnson's won since Tony Fee now last one. If we just reapplied your logic to from that one into the Fleetwood
stuff, it would be a long it'd be a long night for you. And in fact,
I think I think we are is time to remind everyone that surf pros
the number one brand and cleanup and restoration is known for making
any mess like it never even happened.
In a T four.
No, that was the worst thing he did this week.
You have something you need to hopefully make like it never even happen.
Yeah.
I wasn't watching live.
He struck a cop.
He hit a cop.
He hit a cop.
Richie Warrenske's livid.
He hit a cop.
That's not what we're about.
Everybody else was ducking.
The cop was in the line of duty,
keeping the patrons back up there. Those rowdy Philly fans. And he hit a cop.
I don't even know. I couldn't even tell.
It hit him on like two bounces or one cap. But still, that's like touching an umpire,
man. It doesn't matter how hard you hit him. There's no contact allowed. TC, I just want you to just completely distance yourself
from this, say this is not what you're about.
I already did, I already did on X, the everything app.
A lot of people came to my defense there,
they said, hey, gotta get that out there, out there.
Honestly, TC, you gotta spin this.
Clearly he yelled four because everybody ducked.
That's true, that's true because everybody ducked like you got it
It's already 30 seconds before even hit it. It was right proper for call for sure. So
You know, it's
Sometimes it happens guys
You if you've got a mess you want to make like it never even happened
You can go to serve pro comm or call 1-800 serve pro today TC. I'll Matt. I'll double up here
I do have another mulligan or an an apology I'd like to make to you. I forgot that part of our bet
about the match at Oakmont was I had to wear the Pugh's hat and not explain the bet. I blew it.
I couldn't not explain it. So I am displaying the Pugh's hat back here, which I think we'll get into
some hat stuff a little bit later on. I do owe you that apology. That was. So I thought you were going to go with, uh, with one, this was, you know, percolating
on our Slack this week, our friend Zoot, one of the, one of the on-course osteos out on
the LPGA tour, um, said, what the hell is Sally talking about with Hey Don? It's, it
sounds like it is some sort of sound that we are
Incapable I'm incapable of making this sound. It's almost like a rolled are
So the no way to do it is to say hey Don head on but it paid on
Like it was good in your head. I don't know the day I get I don't I don't think we're supposed to know the difference I do I will not apologize for this one. Oh, it's not hey ran
That's what everybody kept saying was hey ran you and so I was like though on the broadcast they say ran
Hey Don you that's what it sounds like to me. It's not
The are hey
Ladies, I don't speak Korean
Listen, I don't you know, I don't speak
British right but you know that like I can't I can't make some of the sounds, but some of the Korean
ladies, they were really upset.
They were texting and they said-
It's all we're saying.
I'm going to go ahead and throw a challenge flag on that one, but no, I will not apologize
for that one.
I feel like I've told this story before.
Oh, sorry, Cody.
Go ahead.
Well, I knew this was going to come up, so I decided to get on to you know the LPGA
There's a lot of tough names that are out there, so they have a
Pronunciation guide on the LPGA media site, so I pulled it straight from from her mouth head on you
Head on you head on you
Head on helpful. I
head on you head on you helpful I hear the D like do we got we don't hear the D there hate on you
midwest northeast kind of way one more time one more time it's like the dress
play one more time why you ran you ran head on you head on you I think you can
kind of hear whatever you want to hear there.
It's the dress.
Yellow dress.
This is I've told this before.
It's not even that good of a story.
So I apologize. But I remember being vividly at the RSM.
Hey, Dom Blake is really good.
I remember being at the RSM Classic one time and just listen to these volunteers go
through the caddy bibs, like try to get them sorted back in alphabetical order.
And I remember it was Brendan DeYoung and Andrew's Fibota were playing in the
same group. And this like this just Sea Island dude was there just like ripping
off the days because all right, we got a, we got Dijon right here and we got a
swabata. Uh, and he just was, I was sitting there for like 30 minutes, just listening to this guy read
names and it was, it was good stuff.
So Sal, you might want to maybe consult with him, see if he has a share on this pattern.
But TC, I believe we were going down to one other thing too.
So I know you got the, the phenol, you know, Tommy stuff holstered up for a future date.
I've had a few people, I think they're running our transcripts through AI or something.
I had a few people look up some of the stuff that I was saying about Scotty pretty early
on 2018, 2019 into 2020.
That's great.
Send those people my way.
I got a whole list of names I'd love to follow up on as well.
Takumi Kaniya.
I like to just go through the whole TC list to Kumi Kaniya. I like to just
go through the whole TC.
I had a top five last week.
Nick Hardy. How's he doing?
Still floating around? Yeah. Anyway, we're going down to
leaderboard. He also treated Scotty like a puppy that he
wasn't quite ready to yeah, there's a lot of just like,
I just dumped them out back golf. and then just straight. He's like,
I want nothing to do with him. No, it was a Frankenstein.
Send him back to the orphanage. So anyway, uh, Stephen Yeager played well.
Kim young, he seven. I'm a blind sweet. Oh, it's not bad. I think he's,
you know, very just up and down. I think he, you know, his last time out,
uh, or really T 54 at heritage and then cut at the Masters that's 72 79
So signs of life for him he quail hollow probably a pretty good fit for him, right?
You know what? I was just gonna look that up TC's played there twice t34 t59
Okay, maybe not
You know, those are big fields though also that This is a totally different week than the normal week we see at Quail Hollow.
It's a week later.
I'd say throw the models out for this tournament.
This is going to be a Quail Hollow that you've never seen before.
Are you guys familiar with Xander's last three finishes at Quail Hollow?
Negative one, negative two, T2.
He finished second in 2024. I'm sorry. I'm I will go I will go on the the JT versus Xander
Straight-up play. I think that's a I'll take Xander all day long on that. So I'll ride with you there. All right, I'll take JT. Okay
Rory played this thing to perfection T7
Clean card today I'm gonna go with the JT
I'm gonna go with the JT All day long on that. So I'll ride with you there. All right, I'll take your team. Okay.
Rory played this thing to perfection.
T7, clean card today.
You know, he was 68 today.
Putted well.
Look, it's gonna be everywhere,
but do you wanna hear Rory's record there?
Please, yeah.
It's pretty sick.
I'm gonna do it the other way.
This is starting in 2010.
Win, missed a cut. T2, T10, T8 T 8 win T 4 T 22 T 16 T 8 win T 47 win
That's wild man. That's that's horses for court. That's kind of Tiger Firestone type of territory there
Closing out the t7 category Keith Mitchell open with the first round 61
Which did you said that the first round 61,
which did you said that his first round scoring average is better?
I told you this.
This I, or yeah, I just sent this over to Cody.
If he is able to get it up on the screen, his tweet was from golfing Brock in 2000.
Tiger Woods had a round one scoring average of 68.17, which is more than
a full stroke behind 2025 Keith Mitchell.
He's averaging 67.1 in first rounds.
He's ranked 97th and 90th in round three and round four score again.
That's an unbelievable stat.
I love that.
That's crazy.
71-71 on the weekend, gave two back.
Is he just like blowing up on carbs or something or not getting enough carbs through the weekend?
No, I was texting with him earlier in the week, I think on Friday or Saturday morning and I was like,
hey, you eating anywhere good this week? He said, yeah, I've eaten a couple of good places,
but I haven't been downtown. So he's not eating through the city. He's playing good golf right
now though. He's made the most of the sponsor exemption. I guess he was going to get in anyway, up to 47th in the FedEx Cup after that. We've got Xander, DB. DB didn't
really get off the bus on Thursday. Shot 68, really slow start. Otherwise, you know, kind of got better
at 69, 68, 66, the last three rounds. So I was expecting a top five from DB this week. Cory, little
Cory Connors, uh, 66, 67 on the weekend. He's playing well, uh, HG playing well. Ricky,
a lot of consternation about that, that sponsor exemption. T15 tastes it's in from one 25th
up to 97th in the FedEx cup. Taste it. Could be kind of big.
Sorry. From outside the card line to inside the card line.
Yes. Oh, it's tough. Oh, it's tough.
That's really tough, right?
Can I flag one just for your kind of group C, group D, major pools?
Corey Connors, as you were saying it.
T13, T8 in his last two starts at Quill Hollow.
See, group C or D, he D seventh in the FedEx cup right now
I hope he's not that far down in the
Yeah, well then that's tough because I guess then he's in group a group B
It's like I don't know if I'm now never I take a JT. It's said, you know
I still think we should double down on this FedEx cup
No, facts cut points for sponsor exemption and signature events get the money take the money more eject the FedEx cut points for sponsor exemptions and signature events, get the money. Take the money, eject the FedEx cut points.
Your status should not be able to be decided
on the sponsor.
Keep hoovering up the sponsor exemptions,
but you shouldn't be able to get your card.
Yeah.
I think that's fair.
What is Big Tone's record at Quail Hollow, Deidre?
Some signs of life out of Big Tone this week.
God, what a great question, TC.
Exceedingly mid.
T52, T23 missed the cut, T60, T21, just never top 10.
Never top one, top 20.
Okay.
This version of Big Tone, which is not the version
of Big Tone that I rode extremely hard for
in a previous life, it is amazing.
As soon as he goes on a hot run, how fast he gives it back.
Like as soon as he pops up on the leaderboard, it's a great thing. It's a great thing. It's a great
thing. It's a great thing. It's
a great thing. It's a great thing.
It's a great thing. It's a great
thing. It's a great thing. It's a
great thing. It's a great thing.
It's a great thing. It's a great
thing. It's a great thing. It's a
great thing. It's a great thing.
It's a great thing. It's a great
thing. It's a great thing. It's a great thing. It's a great thing. Six times an internet event. Yeah, those Tommy Foxy events. What else we got?
Novak continues his world tour.
Listen, there was a troubling video floating around out there with some backstopping on it.
I think Novak tried to get up there and market. Ricky plays really fast, I guess. And Ricky played
super fast. I guess there was a squeegee debacle, one or two holes before, broken squeegee.
They had to get another squeegee out. They fell behind. So the tour officials were like,
hey, you guys got to catch back up. But Novak, he is vehemently, I actually discussed it
with him personally, he's vehemently anti-backstopping.
He could not have been more apoplectic about it.
He was like, dude, I am the leader of the anti-backstop for Mujahideen on tour.
He was very apologetic.
So what was the issue?
The other guy played too fat.
Could he call a penalty on the other guy or something?
Can he, can he call an official?
Yeah.
I mean, he was, I think he was trying to protect the field and then Ricky was,
you know, yeah, Ricky kind of played quick from the bunker.
So, uh, and then, you know, ended up glancing his ball.
I don't think Ricky's ball would have gone that much farther past if it hadn't
been one shot that gets him his card in a sponsor
example
Is how this shit happened nesting dollars?
No, this shit out just you don't say we didn't warn you don't say we don't know back though t17
He's up to fifth in the FedEx Cup
Also, you want to have the Ryder Cup conversation. Yeah, you tell me
What does he need on also, you know t17 tied with no back spawn or no back. Who do you want?
I'll start to get serious here, man. Are we doing this or not?
I can't get any words out.
He's got a lawyer like telling him, don't don't fucking say anything.
Don't say anything. They're good. They're trying to get something right.
It's Miranda.
They get something they could use against you in September.
Don't say anything.
Sam Stevens could go on a run.
He's up to he's up to 29th.
Yeah, he's always here. When you hear Dave, you'd rather have him.
You stop, you stop us. We're so fine.
We're so fine. Let me give you my 12 guys right now.
We'll be totally fine. Yeah, please. Scotty, Bryson,
Morikawa, JT, Henley, Cantlay,
Berger, Spieth. Berger. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not giving you a 12th guide. Somebody will emerge as the 12th. Guy is emerging right now. I don't understand how you don't see it.
Uh, TC, anything else?
Yeah. Uh, yeah.
I was hoping Keegan would make a run 64 on Thursday.
Yeah.
Kind of kind of went backwards on, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the,
on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the, on the run 64 on Thursday. Yeah, you know, kind of kind of went backwards on on Friday and Sunday.
So some signs of life out of Mac 6668.
First two days was glad to see that.
Speeth seems to be kind of, you know, just simmering below the surface. He was T 34.
Not exactly what we're looking for. What else we got?
Yeah, we talked a little as we sit here now, would you say Speeth's more likely to be on
the Ryder Cup team than not?
Yeah, but I don't think that is trending.
It was an issue when I brought that up a couple months ago. If you're going to do the septic
tank thing all over me, we're going to have you do speed or Windham speed Windham is not on the radar at all right now. Yeah
well pig um
What else Taylor's pendant plus no what I'm not doing is Patrick Reed we've done that we've come down
I still see that being brought up and we're just not doing that guys. You're not doing Brooks. You are
I bought throw Brooks in yeah, I've forgotten Brooks.
He's like that.
I was going off the last six months' strokes game.
I don't even know where the fuck he is on that though, because he's down there with
big tone and Bubba.
That's in Justin Lauer and Joe Highsmith.
That's where they are on the list.
So we've got to start playing some golf.
I would potentially leave Brooks at home if he keeps playing like this. I'll say that.
I'll tell you somebody I can see making a run this summer. I'm going to just pull this out of nowhere.
He could probably play for either team. He could probably get his citizenship back.
Michael Thorbjornsson. That's sick. Interesting. I love that. Probably a really good course fit for
Beth Page as well. Anyway, we had saw hit shot 78
third round withdrew Michael Kim withdrew after after Friday team rose withdrew 70 77 I think he
he was he was posted up eating a bunch of cheese steaks for the tour. He was given swing tips to
the guys making the cheese steaks. And then sometimes golf man. Yeah, 7278 finished DFL the guys who
didn't didn't withdraw. So rooting for him to kind of find
some magic. Anyway, can we talk about Foxy now? Of course, of
course, great week at the truest. But moving on to the
opposite field event, the Myrtle Beach, Ryan Fox is your winner
in a playoff over Harry Higgs and Mackenzie Hughes. I was kind of saying this earlier.
This is TC's talked about his dreams on this podcast.
They did.
I'm extremely sorry to do this.
Final thing before we move off truest.
It's unfair with how much time we've spent in Amsterdam ripping on coverage that now
that it's really good, we don't even, you know, it just doesn't deserve like we don't
need to like harp on it.
But like I just again want to throw out a praise hands at CBS for what they're doing covering golf because commercial loads still big always gonna be big but they've made it so it's not miserable to watch
on the afternoon Saturday and Saturday was awesome watching Sunday is great the drone tracers truly transformational so I'm really sorry to interrupt all that but I just wanted to give a quick hamster. Trevor's Trevor's become the most thoughtful. Like he's like the conscience of the game at this point.
Doddy's like best in class. I mean, Doddy's, you know, at the top of like, like historical,
you know, uh, game right now. So yeah, all in. Um, and yeah, DJ, can we, can we badge it? I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to play it. But I'm going to be able to play it. And I'm going to be able to play it.
And I'm going to be able to play it.
And I'm going to be able to play it.
And I'm going to be able to play it.
And I'm going to be able to play it.
And I'm going to be able to play it.
And I'm going to be able to play it.
And I'm going to be able to play it.
And I'm going to be able to play it.
And I'm going to be able to play it.
And I'm going to be able to play it. And I like one of TC's lucid dreams. Like, oh, I gotta tell you guys about this. It was fucking crazy.
But Foxy, proper player, hits a skanky-ass drive
and the playoff misses the green
and then chips in for his first PGA Tour victory.
TC, why are you fired up for this?
I don't know, I just, Foxy,
I've never heard a bad word about the guy.
I like that there's a really good Kiwi
on the scene right now. Solly, you kind of
attribute it all to that one shot that he hit the Masters.
You all attribute that. He hit one really low shot and everybody's, oh, he's a fucking
proper player. It went over the green, it wasn't even a good shot, but he hit a low
shot and everybody freaked out about how he's a proper player and he's one of the most improper
players in the entire golf universe. No, sorry. I was on the Yardage Book New Zealand podcast earlier this week recounting my trip.
And on there, we were talking about Foxy and I learned that Foxy holds pretty much every
single course record of note in the entire country of New Zealand. Like if you're a reputable golf course,
Foxy holds the, like he's got it at all three courses
at Tara Eady and Natieri.
He's got a para para umu, he's got titurangi.
I mean, he's just knocking them off left and right.
Proper player.
Just blowing it over all the dog legs, just abusing them.
And he just looks like he just got done playing rugby
and he's just a prover sportsman. I wonder,
gosh, I don't know how you would ever find this. But I
wonder who literally who holds the most course records in the
world? What a title belt that would be.
We just like when Max set the course record upon a vision and
club and they came out and he's like, I don't want it. I picked
up on the first or like, I didn't hold out on the played the up tease that day too. I don't know if you want
to
I mean, I just think I think Foxy Foxy might be the mega bloke.
That's what he seems like. That's what he seems like.
Probably an interesting podcast. We might need to we need to
effort that at some point. What else did we have on the leader
board there? Well, was the favorite coming in and Harry
Harry has been playing good, right?
I mean, I keep feeling like I want to say he's been in the wilderness, but he's been
on his way back for quite a while here, I feel like.
I think this was a big one because it gets Harry from playing.
I know last week if you guys skipped the Byron Nelson CJ Cup thing to play corn fairy tour. It kind of it's like we're getting to that
time in the year where it's it's like you got to put your eggs in one of the baskets. I think Harry
was starting to get there. He was 163rd on the FedEx Cup coming in this week. Now he's well inside
the top 125. He's played 12 events, a lot of cuts, like not great so far. He's won 12 now, but again, remember the cutoff's 100 now for a tour card.
So he could have used a win, a win would have gone a freaking long ways for Harry.
And I was, I was pulling for him.
Had a look there on 18, both in regulation and in the playoff,
and couldn't get either putt to fall, but play in some, but I would say
play in some good golf. He missed last three three cuts he's missed five out of last six coming
into this one like this was a really really freaking great opportunity t2 is
not not gonna hurt you and I hope he can he
can build off this one um the soldier boy kevin you
around 65 nicholas norgaard sally I've been
you know mentioning his name a little bit. Alex Smalley, I bet you have 67, 67, 67.
You know, Alex Smalley on Mother's Day.
No less.
He's got 35 of the 36 spots covered on the roulette board.
I got called that one.
T.C. has been thrown out of Nicholas Norgaard trial balloon.
The last the last. Let's just see how it goes.
Oh, that one.
Rico always continues to play well. Rico Rico played well The last let's just see how it goes. Oh
Rico Rico played well last week at the Byron Nelson Rico not a proper player I think he's just like really good off the tee. He is a player. Let's drive for a thick off ball outside of Rory in the world
64 today though, so they're all good many false reports in our slack that Tom cut the Tom can miss the cut
I can report that that was not true. He finished
54 that changes everything I know so wow all this fake news
I gotta check so much stuff now on an issue on an issue an apology there
We mentioned it in our happy hour, but Nathan also Tom Kim lost
Lost four and a half shots to the field with his iron play this week
It's not gonna get it done
This is not a real tournament
Nathan Franks who came out of the the queue at Myrtle Beach the kind of half aspiring pros half
creators place for an unrestricted sponsor exemption made the cut finished
t37 so good for him shout out to him and it seems like I would like a brown
tied with blades brown about I would encourage any opposite field tournament
to maximize stuff like that do do weird shit with your sponsor exemptions like
that immediately flipped over to that leaderboard just to check to see how he
was doing this week like
that. If you want to generate some interest for a tournament
invite the Steph Curry's invite the whatever Paul brothers
Jeremy Paul was in the field.
Kenia in the field as well.
Takumi Kenia beat beat Tom Kim, Jackson Bird beat his father, Jonathan Bird. Yeah,
Jonathan Bird missed the cut, Jackson Bird made the cut. How about that?
On the LPGA Tour, Gino Titicum wins by four up at Liberty National over Celine
the torch over Celine Boudier. Andrea Lee and Carlota Segonda finished T3 and then
Yalimi Nonelli-Corda with a disappointing final round and Stephanie
Kirikou finished T5. Kind of waiting the last couple weeks it seemed like
everybody was kind of primed for a Gino breakout and kind of knew this was
coming, was waiting for it to come. I think she was kind of at the, you know,
ready to burst out of the starting blocks a little bit and finally does it
up there at Liberty National this week.
So congratulations to her. Cody, anything we need to know from Liberty
National this week? Great event. I still think it's having the LPGA Tour up there.
Michelle Lee West, tournament host, does an awesome job. Excuse me. Wasn't prepared
to talk. Sorry to the audio listeners here.
But no, it's awesome. Happy to see Gino.
I think if you listen to our preview podcast at all earlier this year,
Randy was super bullish on her having a big season.
And it's kind of where we wanted her to be.
She's really, really good for the LPGA Tour.
She's good for the global game of
golf and having her like, actually getting more more wins is always a great thing. Now she just
needs to sack up and put herself in contention at a major and actually follow through because
she's been there so many times now. It just seems like we're just so close to being able to close
it out. And she talked about that in her post-round press conference
about how much she learned from the Chevron.
And she's like, there's just some short game shots
that I didn't have and I have to get better at them.
And that's all I'm thinking about before we get to Milwaukee.
So very, very excited for her at Aaron Hills
because you want, need somebody to hit a long and straight
and like can putt really, really good. Sounds like a good recipe.
Zero top three finishes and majors for her with her level of
talent is is can't have it. Now that's time for the time for the
next step in that one. Even like this is our fifth LPGA tour win
one of them being a team championship with Ronnie in.
Keep it going. Keep it going. It's it's you know, she's like she is.
God, what's a good comp of somebody that is probably like Rom when he came up that just like.
Well, we can remember it kept saying Xander, right? Yeah. Yeah, really like really went off, right?
Seems like their player profile is similar and and that's really just reminds me of Anthony Edwards in the NBA. Yep.
Just got all the wilds.
Yeah.
Just like, all right, cool.
Like you got to do in the playoffs now.
You got to step it up.
So yeah, I think, I don't know, I'm stoked for the, between Aaron Hills and then I think
that first look at Frisco, like seeing, seeing the ladies play that, it's gonna be hot as
shit down there.
But, but yeah, I think, I don't know, it was kind of a disappointing, like it should have been a really good final round.
Like Celine was right there.
Andrew Lee was right there.
Nellie was right there and they all kind of just got back down.
Like, do you know, just slam the door one by one by four.
Carlota was up there just, just, you know, kind of hammering the pace, you know, just,
just bringing it to a halt. slam the door one by one by four. Carlota was, you know, up there just, just, you know, kind of
hammering the pace, you know, just, just bringing it to a, to a crawl again. Well, like,
I have it in the tunnel over there. Yeah. I, we're going to continue with that co-branded
jet that TC and I have going, but like Carlota is playing really fucking good golf. And I honestly
think that the pace of play policy, LPGA Tour put in place now,
I think is helping her because it's forcing her
to actually pay attention, be in the moment
and not like she was always the one
that just let every little distraction affect her.
And now it's impossible for her to do that.
And she or like her results are doing the opposite
of what we thought we would happen
because we thought she would be the one automatically getting penalties right away
and then you know being mad as hell about it and it's not she playing way better than I expected.
Yeah, I'm Rio Takeda too. I think another top 10 for her like she's she's gonna win a major this
year guys. It's gonna happen I'm telling you. And Deej, you mentioned Steph Kariaku, but she is a prime position here. She's
entering major contender realm, and she just continues to grow and grow and grow, and the
more top 10s that she gets on these big field events on courses that actually matter. And I
understand we poke fun and make jokes about Liberty National all we want, but it's awesome to see the on these big field events on courses that actually matter. And I understand like we
poke fun and make jokes about Liberty National all we want. But like, it's awesome to see the LPGA
tour out there. It's awesome to see the purse that ZUHO puts up for it. And it's really,
really cool to have golf on CBS. You know, it's kind of the same same voices, but just a different
look at it. It changes the whole thing. So bravo to the whole team. Then shout out to Afro Diety Dang for winning the AJGA portion of it as well.
Dope name.
Great.
There you go.
Aaron Hills is going to be awesome.
I was out there for the media day.
Was that Monday this week?
And I love, love, love the fact that kind of what made it,
I don't want to say not work for the men's game,
but what made the scores crazy low
is the width out there combined with no wind.
And I feel like I'm the LPGA,
I know I don't follow it as closely as Cody, you and Randy,
but it's like they all pretty much drive it
so straight anyways that I really, really love the idea
of having a wide golf course
and making it a pure second shot test and letting some of the best iron players separate themselves and letting
the sides of the fairways matter and letting who has the most creative short game matter. It's
just, it's going to be awesome. I'm sure we're going to have a lot more Aaron Hill's talk, but
it was very fun to get out there on Monday. I heard my guy, US Mike got got done dirty by the 15th hole I got to play with USGA Mike Mike won I got a featured group, you know group 1a don't know how that
Thank you to our friends at the USGA. I don't know how that happened, but we had a great great great day out there
And we got to the 15th tee and you know, it was it was playing like
275 front
drivable par-4 for those that have not been and we're all kind of looking around. We're like man
We're not playing like a team game. We're not like there's nothing on the line. We don't have a match
Go like of course, we got to like send it up there
You know
Otherwise, it's like you're hitting a six iron out here and hitting a wedge on the green like come on
No, let's let's go for it and and USGA Mike
Although I can say he drove it on a string all day,
just got a little loose with that one over on that right side, TC, you know, there's
nothing good that lives over there. You know, a couple of balls rolling back to his
feet. It was, it was tough and otherwise really tidy around a golf kind of undone,
undone at the 15th hole.
I'm going to look up USGA Mike right now on the gin app and see what he's playing off of. Because I made a joke. I was like, yeah, like watching him
watching him play. I was saying it to him after we finished. I
was like, you know, be a sick video is you playing us like us
open locals, like Mike you up and like, go play us open
locals. And he's like, well, I'm a four. I was like, all right,
we'll get it. Yeah, you're not a Sam maybe though. Yeah,
exactly. But he's sponsor exemption into the US Open
locals. And he's like, well, I'm a four. I was like, yeah was like all right we'll get it yeah you're not a Sam maybe though yeah exactly sponsor
exemption into the into the locals yeah there you go really really am nice player nice and
a great guy everybody's heard about this I mean look at it as Jen he's got nothing but
like everything's between like 77 and 82 yeah and then he's got a 72 from December of last
year. He's posted a lot of rounds. I'm proud of him. Yeah,
getting out there.
And we talked to him about that 72 when he was on. That's right.
Yeah, it was on a buddy strip or something. I remember and then
he just got his clock cleaned the whole rest of the trip. I
think handicaps were adjusting on the fly. Anyways, on the
DVD world tour,
I got one last thing on the zoom I clean the door for people who obviously we
care deeply about this but LC T21 another good finish she's obviously disappointed in
that now but I don't think we've taken a moment and realize that LC is in the top 10 in the
the world rankings in the official Rolex rankings LC LC is in the top 10.
Yeah, so absurd. And I think it's something that like we've
been part of this journey for a long time. We thought that like,
wow, that you have that potential, but now absolutely
fulfilling that potential and seeing that the name there with
the recognition and everything. It's so fucking cool.
I mean, like over the last four years, I felt like you're a top
10 ball striker in the world. Like over and over and over again, just kept telling her that now.
You're not just top 10 ball striker in the world, she's top 10 player in the world.
It's awesome. That's heavy. I've gotten way too used to it. I know. Like it's almost the same
journey as Max. It's just like, oh yeah, shit. I think she could win it.
Aaron Hills or Frisco.
They're both like, that kind of course favors her.
Frisco's going to be so hot.
Anyway, DP World Tour.
Yeah, just a quick note on the DP World Tour.
I mentioned this at the top.
Martine Couvre, the French phenom, 22 years old.
Played 12 DP World Tour events this year, top five and four
of them.
Guy has been an absolute stud.
Guy's been a stud.
He's got absolutely great lettuce as the viewers of our live show can watch now.
It looks like it's always been that way.
Just a great vibe.
I got a hand up.
I have not been following his career closely, but I was excited to do a little little mini deep dive
Into it today. So shout out to him another player to keep an eye on TC put him in your get him in your program
You know show him the ropes show him how to be a pro
I have nothing but confidence that he's gonna he's gonna be a great future future player for your European squad
Well, you put him on is he a lock for the team right now TC? No, he's not a lot
That would be so sick to call him a lock right now.
We saw some signs of life out of Victor Perez this week too. Maybe we get a fiery francophile squad on the team. I love that.
Guys, I prepared just a tasteful small little back nine for us here. We've got a
lot of small drinks. We can move through these fairly quickly, I think. But hole number 10,
we're going to kick things off. Where else would we start? I thought you guys did a great
job bringing a lot of awareness to the big letter hats.
Indeed, we're just getting started with that. I think this is a hundred year war.
This epidemic, I think is way more far reaching than any of us really
understood as expected, as you guys called it out last week, just hundreds of
messages coming to, you know, across all of our desks.
We've mentioned it a couple of times now, but, uh, the lib nat Liberty
national ones we were, we were aware of TC.
What did we see this week though?
Uh, the torch, uh, we see this week, though? The torch.
Really bad, really, really bad stuff.
If you're not using this together, of course, this is a reference to the Statue of Liberty, which is very visible.
From Liberty National.
I think this could be a January 6th hat.
It's just really bad, bad stuff. We've gotten reports from our beloved
Crail. Crail has fallen.
That's awful.
We hate seeing that.
TC, I saw the White Bear Yacht Club has been
taken over. The yacht.
Yachty. I think they could have
gone with YCHT.
Why can I kind of flex either way could be a vowel or a
My I think favorite one I saw this week was my beloved
Lawsonia links the Langford and Moreau gem up here in Wisconsin is selling these steam shovel hats
No vowels, you know, Puka getting in the game.
So G4 started this madness.
G4 has gotten or Puka has gotten in the game.
And then Imperial has also gotten in the game too, with with smaller,
you know, oddly shaped letters as well.
This is Mountain Lake, which is a really, really
Rucker style would do. It's interesting. I haven't seen that play.
Yeah, it's just that that's, you know, that's the Imperial one extra concerning. It's a
rope hat as well.
This is a lot going on there.
Yeah. And this is like a blue blood kind of, you know, really, really old school club and
seeing them fall victim to this hits a little
bit different than say a Liberty National or a quail.
Anybody man you think?
Yeah, like parents, Greens committees.
General managers talk to your kids.
Okay, you just quarantine again for two weeks like the word of mouth like it just got
just kind of went too little too viral everybody started copying everybody's got a quarantine no social media for two weeks and like these things will go away i think that's right uh i was there
were some tilly ones out there this week at uh just big tilly hats at philly craig it uh thankfully
there wasn't a whistle-hicking one but but you know, WSSHCKN.
I haven't read everything on AWTillingHats.
I just don't think he would like the Tilly hats though,
personally, but I was gonna say,
if we were gonna make some for our own squad,
if we're making a Solly hat,
we're making a Tron hat, a KBB hat.
I'm curious what those hats would say.
I think for Solly, it's clear.
I was thinking the Buoy, I think would be a really good Sallie one.
TC, I know you said data.
Just a simple data.
Put your data hat on.
I think it would be good.
I don't know if you guys had any other nominees.
I think just generational driver with no vowels.
Sure.
I like that.
Just the Sean Carter one.
I think it's nice with it.
That'd be tasteful with no vowels.
Tommy one with no valves.
That's just TMM.
T5. I would wear one that said tone like T-O-N-E.
Like, you know, big, big incursive.
I know the tone.
L tone.
Oh, God, that's that's a good one.
Uh, yeah, we kind of think of like a beluga one would be would be solid.
Uh no vowels could work. Money
round. Yeah. M N Y R N D. I
like that. Oh that's actually
pretty good. So I don't know.
Be be vigilant out there you
know. Check check on your
people. Make sure that make
sure they're doing okay. Could
you could you do a back tea
bandit one for me with no
vowels DJ? Uh wait till people
see that man. We gotta put a bunch of those on pre-order. Yeah. I mean I'm not sure if the the
the
the
the
the
the
the potentially. This is the USJ's contract for their championships, US Open, US Women's Open,
the USM, the Walker Cup, all of these championships get rolled up into the same deal. That contract
is held by NBC and expires in 2026, worth noting, I think, that Fox currently pays
over half of this deal, pays over half of NBC's rights fees after backing out of their
12-year deal from 2020.
Pucks John Orrind was reporting that there may not be a... so they kind of have this, you know,
NBC has an exclusive kind of like renegotiation period.
It sounds like they're out of that and now they're taking it to the wider market and Pucks John Orrind was reporting this week.
May not be a ton of interested buyers. CBS was very mealy-mouthed, very corporate speak
and just kind of telegraphing, we have no interest in this. And SBJ, Sports Business Journal
in March suggested that there could be a chance to break things up, maybe put US Opens into
one deal and then everything else into either a golf channel deal or streaming only deal
or something like that. I think the ideal outcome would be like if Andy Jassy or Tim Cook or Eddie Q got like
a little bit of a in what people should be rooting for? I think the ideal outcome would be like, if Andy Jassy or Tim Cook or Eddie Q
got like really, really, really into golf
and just said, hey, Prime or Apple TV
or something like that, we're gonna blow this out
and make this a loss later.
Yeah, I think the best result for fans is that it doesn't get
sold for a ton of money. And this isn't like something that
you have to sell massive amount of ads up against. But at the
same time, NBC didn't pay a massive amount of money for
this and has just water boarded us with ads to the point where
like they had to like sheepishly dial it back and brag about
dialing it back like two minutes. So no, I don't think to
answer your question, these I don't think there's a
landing competition in the market is a bad thing in terms
of like just letting it probably fall back on NBC. If I had
confidence that if they got it for cheaper, they would present
a better product, I would get excited, but I do not have that
confidence
kind of a bummer that ESPN slash ABC wouldn't be involved. Yeah,
I think it's just like that. You don't want to be out on an island like Fox was like this was the
only golf they did. So like they already have masters in ESPN open ESPN ESPN they have PGA
and but that's just all linked with CBS still runs like the production for a lot of that stuff.
And CBS still runs the production for a lot of that stuff. So if it was ESPN CBS, that would be a great option.
Corporate with all the Paramount stuff.
Big sale to Ellison and all that right now too.
I think the big thing is, I don't know,
where I, there you go, caffeine TV.
I think where my ears kind of perk up on this is just, what happens when the first one of these deals kind of goes backwards.
You know, it just feels like all of these deals have kind of just gone forward, forward, forward, bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger, and to the point where it's like, you know, I know the tour ratings have bounced back in like a very, very big way this year. But you know, if things do start to, to quote, unquote, right size, as a lot of people think they might, then
it's gonna be interesting to see who that happens to first or
I think it did. Right? I think this happened to Fox. I mean,
Fox like way overspent on this and really f'd up the market.
If shots of PIF, honestly, something else would be like
solid. I know that I saw this week that YouTube is
bidding or I think YouTube is going to throw something on not just YouTube TV, but YouTube
specifically.
Like that might be the ultimate, right?
If accessible and YouTube just said, Hey, we're going to know it'd be the most accessible
thing that the that the USGA could do. Yeah, it just feels weird where you said, Oh, that's what I was going to say
is like golf is such a weird one where it's like, if you're Google or whoever, and you
kind of just want to get into like, quote unquote, sports, it almost is like golf is
probably the last one you'd pick because it's so fucking expensive to, to televised, you
know, but maybe they're from theroom there. I don't know.
NFL game is what you were referring to.
Yeah.
I think if I'm the USGA, I probably, if the market's not there, I might try to sign like
a three to five year deal, a shorter one, and then kind of stabilize.
Yeah. Let things kind of, you know, I feel like we're kind of between like, like stuff
hasn't made itself clear yet, if that makes
sense.
Well, we shall see.
Something to keep an eye on.
Hole number 12, gentlemen, speaking of the USGA, the Walker Cup is headed to princes
in 2030.
The US likes to announce a lot of their venues way in advance.
The internationals had not advanced or had not announced any international Walker Cups beyond the RNA. Not the
sorry the RNA. Sorry. Sorry. The RNA had not announced any locations beyond the
next one. But now we know that that will be Prince's nearly 100 years after they
hosted the open in 1932. Let me just read these off. Always kind of worth
reading just as a kind of a holy shit lineup.
Future Walker Cup venues. Here we go. 2025 this year. Cypress Point.
2026 they're playing it back to back, I think to get back on schedule.
La Hinch. 2028 is Bandon Dunes. 2030 as mentioned is Princes.
2032 is Oakmont and then 2034 will be
international. That's TBD 2036 Chicago Golf Club and then 2038 through 2042 are
TBD until we get to 2044 which is Pine Valley. So some some pretty heavy hitters
there. So congratulations. Prince's was kind of a surprise I think it was slated for Mr. Slumber's spot at
Roessing Ports and then they ended up taking over Princess. So yeah, very kind
of some backroom stuff seemed to be going on. I'm not super well versed in
Princess. It sounds like they have they've been doing a lot of work there
both like on and off the golf course so maybe that has something to do with it.
But a place I've never been to and a place I'm looking forward to
looking forward to watching world class golf app.
So
TC Hole number 13, our friends at King Collins Design
are King Collins Dormer,
Collins Dormer Design, I'm sorry, are doing a a collab with Royal Dornick, I'm told. What's
the word here?
Yeah, they're redoing. A, the club bought some adjacent land to kind of be able to beef
up the Strewie course, which is kind of their sporty B-side track. Kind of totally re-imagine that. And then also in the plan is a new par three course.
And then of course, they're going to build a new clubhouse facility too, which is badly needed. I
think that clubhouse is tough there. But I think between this and everything going on at
Castle Stewart or Cabot Highlands, I think they call it now. And then also, I think cool links is looking somewhat promising. It always blows me away how tall Rob is to every time I'm with him.
You're a huge tall dude.
But I love Dornak having a proper 36 holes there on site plus
Aurora and Golsby and Tain and Fort Rose.
I'm betting on the Highlands.
I think the Highlands. I
think the Highlands is starting to block its head even more and bullish on that area.
I also feel like that photo that was just up there of Rob and Tad and Trevor now working
at Royal Dorneck
is kind of the equivalent of Lauren being in the top 10
in the world as well, right?
Of just like, oh, whoa, look at that.
Look at our friends.
Look at our buddy just fucking doing it, man.
That's nuts.
Royal Dorneck, whoa.
Wow.
I feel like Dorneck needed this too
after the Foxy debacle, the hat debacle last week, you know, they had to kind of,
yeah, no clubs ever bounce back.
Who's back of the week?
Yeah.
So I think Dorne, I don't think they've approved it yet.
The member like they presented to the membership, actually the whole proposal and everything
is on YouTube.
Go watch it.
It's it's dope.
It's it's very, very creative routing and yeah, just spectacular. But yeah, I'm just jealous of Rob getting to go stay at the golf hotel right next to
the first tee.
I think that's my favorite hotel in the world right there in that back room.
I love that.
Speaking of jealous, our guy Jamie Kennedy was just whipping around some of these golf
courses this week too.
Having a trip.
Yeah, Jamie just solo.
He was riding solo with a week to have a trip. Yeah, he yeah, Jamie just solo
He was he was riding solo with a half set the drone and in a camper van
started at a boat of Garton
up or actually started calling and
Played calling which gosh, I love that place and then went to boat of Garton, which
Zach and Horner and I stopped by there
on actually my last trip to the Highlands. We stopped there on the way down to St. Andrews.
Boat of Garten is awesome. James Braid kind of inland design, whole steam train there. Then he
went to Spey Bay, which is the one I need to get more deets on that. It's reversible now.
I need to get more deets on that. It's reversible now.
I believe DeVries and Pont and Clayton's firm has been working on that with the Lynx
Dow guys.
And then he played at, he went to Cove Sea after that, which Cove Sea is just a spectacular
little spot.
You know, really like basically all the places that like, Jim Hartzell just
loves going. So I think he went and then he went to Moray or Murray Moray, however you
pronounce it. But yeah, just like this is the kind of trip that I get extremely jealous
of, of just basically being able to go, you know,
I hope you're able to hit the road one of these days TC
and get on place. I hope I mean, like, like, like, Cove sees a
place that hardsills told me like, hey, this place is like,
12 pounds to play or 15 pounds to play. And like, one dude
looks after it. He's added a bunch of holes. There's no
blind hole. It's like right down the road from Cullen.
Yeah, I don't know. That area of Scotland is just get off the beaten path. You don't have to, for as great as Dornick is and Marin is and Castle Stewart and all that, you don't have to go spend 300 pounds on a round of golf.
You can go you can go play like six awesome courses for under 100 pounds. Especially as
all of those places start to be booked out, you know, six years in advance or whatever.
But shout out to Jamie, as always one of my favorite people to play golf with. Hole number
14, guys, we had a chaotic creator classic. I don't know if you guys caught this. I'm just reading this into
the record. We have Josh Richards, Eric Anders Lang and
Brad Dalkey who are joining the illustrious list of creator
classic champions. So of course I know we're we're just on the
outside looking in maybe someday. No, absolutely not. I
mean the caddy was lining him up grand graying up on the final putt.
Oh, that's true.
Right.
No, no, that's right.
I did get it.
I think they amended that.
They scratched his name off the plaque.
I'm pretty sure.
Doesn't matter what the plaque says.
The format for this one was a three-person alt shot.
I'm going to argue this is the hardest format in golf.
Just impossible to get any rhythm.
Very, very tough format. and the scores reflected that.
It just the way it worked it was the same as the last one but eight holes and then the top two
teams advanced to the one hole playoff. I don't know if you guys looked into how this actually
finished or not. I know we all kind of watched like the first five, ten, twenty minutes but...
I watched the first two holes. I think there was like six rulings on the first hole.
Everybody kept hitting it in the wrong holes and like bunkers from other holes I watched the first two holes. I think there was like six rulings on the first hole.
Everybody kept hitting it in the wrong holes and like bunkers from other holes and getting rulings.
So that was, again, that was reflected in the scores here,
TC, where Marquise Brownlee, Sean Walsh,
and Sabrina Andolfo were three over through eight,
runaway champions.
They were five clear of the field at three over. But then the like scores were leveled going to the
last hole. And then the winning team made a bogey and that team
made a like a quad. And so the team who lost by five over the
first eight holes then was your champion. So it's mouthful. I'm
just again,
was your champion. So it's a mouthful. I'm just again, medium tone, Tyler, Tony, he flashed pretty hard.
You know, hashtag Chad on the on the bag.
I just if we're gonna TC if we're gonna call like we see
him call it balls and strikes. I can't do the upside down dude
perfect hat. As long as we're just talking at I won't I won't
let that
one slip by. I saw Steph was Steph was wearing an upside down hat courtside. Bay
area. Yeah that was tough. Tough. I think we can erratic I think we can lead the
charge and get these things get people start talking like dude kind of like the
white belts TC you were early on that one as well. Yeah. I think we can have a
conversation you know. Yeah. I don't have anything else on the Creator Classic unless
you guys do I just you know, it's been it's been acknowledged
and read into the record. There was a guy in a pine hearse hat
that was that was aura farming behind one of the t boxes really
good vibe and kind of like one of those belt bag. Yeah, really
good. I clock that guy as well really good. Um, I think like the crater classic thing
I think is is caught between release patterns. I
think it is
a far this is a version is a far cry from like
Hey, what would like the you know, some of the biggest YouTube golfers and Sally shoot at TPC sawgrass in a tournament setup
The night before the tournament starts
is a different question than like an alt shot,
whatever this was.
For me personally,
like not just the fact that I played in this one,
like I'm way more intrigued by the first question in that,
of like, dude, yeah, like anything to explain
the difference between pros and the people
that people watch on YouTube is like a good thing.
I think it is a good tie into the event.
And this is more like a good thing. I think it is a good tie into the event. And this is more
like a celebrity pro-am, which I would say is just the word I would use for all that is very
skippable. Like I don't, it was irrelevant to me who won this. So at that point, you know,
I'm not watching for the competition. Is this how I want to spend my time?
That'd be golf girl. Wasn't it? Nade shot dropped out.
That was tough. Very little it. Nate shot dropped out.
That was tough. Very low.
I was there with nature dropping out.
Cal Lowry's got a dump on him.
That was impressive.
That was, and I don't think his pants, I don't think his pants fit very well.
Uh, I don't think that was a style choice either.
If it was, I apologize.
I'm, I'm, I'm out of date on that.
Anyways, it just felt skippable.
And, uh, yeah, I don't know.
I don't know where, where it goes from here.
It's all he's shaming, shaming big dumpers on the pod. I just, skippable. And yeah, I don't know where it goes from here. It's all these shaming big dumpers on the pod.
I just, I don't totally.
I'm shaming it, I've congratulated.
I don't know, my only thing on this,
and this is from my perspective,
and if it's not for me, then that's fine,
and I know all these guys have a bazillion followers,
and whatever.
I don't get how we're not working like PJ Tour pros
into the PJ Tour event on a PJ Tour golf course
That's kind of where I'm like, dude how there's just like no connectivity to do any of this
What's it's a fucking halftime show at the basketball game, you know, it's just like kind of meaningless
Rad okay, you know, that's that's none of its
like, oh rad, okay. You know, that's, that's, I did none of it. I did think, uh, Matt, every was good. Every bacon were good. Yeah. On there. I thought
that was like a kind of much needed dose of, of just levity and like hanging out kind of
on the broadcast, but yeah, not, not sure what they're after. We'll see. I don't know
if they have a format for the next one, but.
When's the next one?
Tour championship, which again, now it's like,
well, you're not gonna get any of those guys to participate.
So I don't know.
Good luck to all involved.
Hole number 15 here, guys.
Reading, you know, again, reading this one
just so people are clocking it.
Story from Brentley Romine from Golf Channel.
Vanderbilt is going to NCAA regionals without Gordon Sargent
He will be out of the lineup for the third time this year not injury related not anything related other than
he's just not playing good golf and so
This is a bummer as a Gordon Sargent fan a guy who spent a lot of time with him with the Walker Cup guy
Who watched some really high highs and a guy who spent a lot of time with him at the Walker Cup, guy who watched some really high highs, uh,
and a guy who just really likes him personally.
I think he's an awesome dude and his great sense of humor. Uh, this is,
this has been a tough, uh, decline.
A quick little Gordon Sargent kind of refresher here is first team all American
in each of his first three seasons, uh, won the 2022 NCAAs. Uh,
he earned a PJ tour card through PJ tours, won the 2022 NCAAs. He earned a PJ Tour
card through PJ Tour's PJ Tour use accelerated program, and
then decided to go back to college, I think probably
knowing that his game wasn't in, you know, the perfect spot.
He said he tried to chase a little bit of distance or make
some changes, make some tweaks. I don't think he needed to
chase distance.
But yeah.
I don't think he needed to chase distance, but yeah. So he is going to be a PJ Tour rookie starting at the RBC Canadian Open after he graduates.
He has a PJ Tour card in his back pocket, but he has also has like the worst scoring average of the nine man Vandy team right now.
Almost 74. He's's averaging after scoring average like
69 and a half his first three years. I think he was a Vandy career scoring leader.
He has been outside the top 50 all five of his starts this spring he's fallen to
outside the top 500 in the national collegiate rankings. So again pretty
crazy because he was number one as of NCAA regionals last year, 365 days ago, a rapid, rapid decline.
So again, just sucks for a guy that like got all the NIL money thrown at him, got a PGA tour card.
Like I said, it's just a guy seems like he's a little bit in the wilderness right now.
So I for one hope he gets it turned around,
but it's not been good.
And I will also mention that, you know,
Brentley got a quote from, I think Scott Limbaugh,
I think is the coach at Vandy, who said,
you know, not ruling him out for NCAAs,
maybe he'll find something if they do advance
and get through to NCAAs,
but he is not going to regionals, which stinks.
Hole number 16 here, TC, I know this is kind of your block. A couple names to watch for the PJ Tour CEO job.
This was via Josh Carpenter, who lists Brian Rolap,
the NFL Chief Media and Business Officer, and Jared Smith,
former Ticketmaster Chairman, as kind of the two top dogs vying
for the job. He also has David Abelis, the tailor-made CEO, and NASCAR commish Steve
Phelps, kind of on the shortlist as well. But I don't know if you had any takeaways
from these or kind of anything.
Yeah, I think Roll App's name keeps popping up for this. He also had to, he was involved in some of the college football stuff and I think the NFL had to kind of tell him to my interest. You know, he was COO during the Live Nation merger and he left Ticketmaster in 2020.
Ticketmaster is one thing.
Then he went to Altera, the ski resort company.
It's kind of the other ones, you know, kind of the counterbalance to Vale resorts in the Oligopoly there.
And now he's vying to be the PGA Tour CEO, which all three of those companies have active
antitrust investigations going against them right now.
So that's, I mean, this guy, if anybody is in, you know, this guy is an anti-competitive
specialist.
So, yeah.
Is that what the tour needs?
Is that a good or bad thing?
Yeah.
Perhaps.
But yeah, I mean, Ticketmaster, like, pretty, pretty bleak customer experience.
Yeah, it doesn't make me super warm.
Yeah, I mean, DJ, you're a music fan.
I know Ticketmaster.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm sure a lot of that's just kind of, you know, like unavoidable late stage capitalism
type of type of shit, which is where the PGA tour is desperately trying to get to.
They're trying to get, they're trying to get that, get that bag as well.
So we'll see.
And then Arthur Blank, you know, he's done an awesome job.
Obviously an awesome job with the Falcons with, you know, Harry Fontenot knows that
the GM, he's just been a smoldering disaster.
And then obviously the iPad, you know, Shadira Sanders prank call, they've been fined for
all sorts of different, you know, they were piping in crowd noise to games, they were
misstating injury reports for Bijon Robinson, they were tampering with Kirk Cousins last offseason, so of course, you know, Arthur
Blank really knows how to hire him. I'm glad he's in charge of this
search. This is a great note at the bottom of Josh's story, quote, Arthur Blank, a member of
the enterprise, PJ Tour Enterprises board, has been leading the search committee and
sources say he's been intimately involved in
every aspect of the process. I only read that in because as
someone who's done like the smallest amount of of like
actual reporting, all this stuff comes from it's all leaks from
like official sources, right. And it just makes me laugh that
something Hey, yo, make sure you put a B's, a B's on this one, man. Like
somebody's like, we gotta, we gotta make sure we get that to
the press that a B is he's got his hands.
Speaking of a B, like in leaks, you know, anonymous sources
saying that that I think it was Dallas and Vegas bids out there
for TGL teams. You know, this season and 75. Okay. And then 75. Maybe the maybe the pope
involved interesting video him at the 2005 World Series. I don't know if it's real or AI could be
my first got got by AI. We'll see. But I you know, the they were floating a $75 million franchise fee, which seems
like in talking to some people who, you know, have been pitched on this stuff, they're like,
yeah, man, that's that's like not even in the in the universe of what they're gonna get for that.
All right. It was Detroit and Chicago, I, were the two teams that came out this week
that there was filings for.
And Gilbert.
That might be why we're seeing so many block letter hats,
is how many hats they gotta sell to move this.
In the red.
Maybe Reinsdorf will get involved, the TGL team.
Guys, hole number 17, solid, we just missed him.
TB12, the quarterback, Tom Brady is on a tour to force of Ireland and Northern Ireland right now. I have sources on the ground guys. He was at Royal Port Rush. This was this was widely publicized. I got sources telling me shot 72. I don't know what TZ played. I don't know if he's holding everything out. I'm hearing he shot 72 at Royal Port Rush, which was not out there
the day that we played at Solly. But if TB12 racked up a 72,
all power to him. Of course, stop by Royal County down, the photo
that you're looking at here now. I just got a big kick out of
all the people who were sending us off the first tee last week.
So all the people who were helping us out in the golf shop,
all just yucking it
up with Tom Brady, man. That's great. He was apparently on a
tour with Randy's guy, Morgan Wallen, who, who skipped, I
believe the real music awards. I found a couple reports there. I
think they're hocking the football around it. I don't know
if that I think it was a rural county down. I think I think
he's over there for a big trip because he also was like,
then he was playing golf, Tom Brady that is,
was playing golf with Jim Gray.
Jim Gray.
At Valley Bundon.
I mean, Morgan Wallen and Jim Gray,
both of them kind of got canceled, right?
That's true and they're back, man.
So yeah, I don't know.
That was an interesting one.
Just wanted to shout out, you know,
shout out Tom Brady's Irish golf trip.
72.
72 is low.
Sure.
We'll see, it was a good source.
I'll never forgive Jim Gray for what he did to Pete Rose
at the All-Star Game, sorry.
Disgusting.
Was Jim Gray the one with Corey Pavin
at the Ryder Cup. Yeah
God what a legend man. Like what is the connection? What's he doing?
Yeah
And then a good one here the 18th hole the finisher Chris would first top 10 on any tour since 2018
Shot a final round 64 at the Turkish Airlines open and gave an awesome
Post-round presser people should go watch on the DP world tour social medias
Just a little bit of background
I don't think I you know
There's so many players that a lot of players cycle in and out you't, you just obviously don't keep up with everybody, but you know,
Chris Wood was absolutely a dude played in the 2016 Ryder Cup team.
He was T5 as an AM at the 08 Open and then backed up with T3 at the
following year at the Open.
Early podcast guest, right?
Was.
Yeah.
And the, before we hit a hundred episodes, I think he was on one.
And just has, has been dealing with chronic anxiety and burnout.
This was a quote from last year.
He was playing the international series,
which I think everybody, you know,
it's like the easiest way to get into live, right?
But I think he was just kind of looking for any kind
of starts because he doesn't have any status.
And so a quote from him,
I've actually been dealing with that since like 2019,
but it took maybe four years before I did anything about it.
It took literally bottoming out to stop.
I didn't play at all last year.
I took a whole year off.
And this year has been about trying
to get my card in hand again.
10 years ago, if you'd said to me,
you'll be in this position mentally,
I was so unaware of what those words meant.
And it takes going through something like this
or someone very close to you
going through it before you can actually appreciate what those struggles are
actually like.
It's hard because I still feel like I've got a Ryder cup in me.
I truly believe that.
And I wouldn't still be putting myself in the positions where I feel anxious and
exposed unless I felt like it was going to be worth it. Uh, that's an awful,
awful, awful spot to be.
I can imagine and just celebrating the days where, you know, he pieces it together,
shoots 64 in the final round and, and finishes T seven over there on the DP
world tour. So massive congrats to Chris. That's,
that was an awesome story this week. Um, but he is now I assume into next week,
but he's got no status. He's just playing off of sponsor invites.
So hopefully he can kind of keep the train running and, and, uh, into the list. That's right, monitoring man. That's all kind of
all I had. This is kind of a bonus one, just like a little bit of a you know a
buy-hole sort of thing. TC you sent this over, I want to issue a heartfelt RIP to
the wrestler Sabu who died at the age of 60,
and who our friend, big randir, Anthony,
sent over this photo, and he just said,
does this look just like Solly?
And I really, I think it does.
What?
It's just, it's very uncharitable, Solly, I know.
You don't have quite of the gap in your teeth.
He's got a little more Joost Leuten, maybe,
like they dial up the Uncle Joost slider.
It's got kind of a little chin strap thing going on.
Not a lot of coverage on the front of the chin.
I should say had, RIP.
That just really tickled me and said,
I don't know if I'm seeing this one.
I'm hurt, once, but I don't know if I'm I don't know if I'm seeing this one I'm hurt once I don't know if I'm quite seeing this one. I just there's little glimpses. There's little glimpses
It's kind of like you got to unfocus your eyes a little bit, you know, just like look look really quick
They look super close. It's not gonna it's not gonna hit you but
Other than that guys
What these people people keep you know more more smoke around the Rory to, to, uh, Roe
Melbourne or worry to the Australian open, which is hopefully played at Roe Melbourne.
I've heard some, they're having some trouble with some of the surrounds down there on,
on, you know, the fescue surrounds.
Um, but man, if that's the case, summer of summer of golf, hot
and heavy down and down in in Oz in December, sign me up.
Could be a yeah, your guy whose job you were calling for the guy
you were calling to get sacked from golf Australia if he lands
Rory, I mean, that could be a big, big fish in the boat.
No, it's a circle.
No, this should have been happening two, three years
ago. Our guy is, you know, Rory wouldn't have come down for the co-ed thing with the improper setup
and all that stuff. So well, we shall see. Yeah. Some, some smoke around there. I think Evan Priest
was, was a floating that this week that it sounds like a Rory to Australian Open visit
could be. Yeah, Rory to Australian Open, question mark.
Guys, we got a lot of content. I think we can flip the page. It
is officially PGA Championship Week. We've got a preview
podcast tomorrow that I am stoked about that is going to go
live on our podcast YouTube channel.
If you're watching, you know, if you go to our no laying up
YouTube channel, you can get a link to our podcast YouTube
channel. We're going to be live there tomorrow at 3 PM Eastern
time. We're going to do a little PGA Championship preview, and
then we're also going to do some Jeopardy. We got a whole
Jeopardy game. If you remember our Jeopardy game from the end
kind of season in review this winter, we're going to do PJ championship
specific Jeopardy tomorrow.
I am pumped for it.
It's really, really fun.
We, of course, have the happy hour at four Eastern on Wednesday.
And then, as we've mentioned a bunch of times, we're going

Sports in Charlotte for our first ever. Live, live, like in person.
Live, in person show brought to you by High Noon.
Please, please come on out, come say hey, come watch,
come drink a High Noon.
Can't wait for that, that's gonna be really, really fun.
Confront TC and Randy about their Charlotte takes.
I know I have multiple family members
that are ready to, ready to.
Solly, it's interesting you bring that up.
We'll talk about that more this week. I'm
getting in. I'll get in Tuesday. I'm planning on eating dinner, Tuesday, Wednesday night.
I may go get some sample some breakfast spots on Thursday. Thank you to everybody who sent
out or sent over recommendations gotten hundreds of them, like literally hundreds
of them. And also I've gotten a lot of notes of people who are like, yeah, man, I grew up here.
I still live here. Like you guys kind of nailed it spot on. So it does sound like the restaurant
scene has evolved and got improved a lot over the last six to eight years since I was last in Charlotte.
But I look forward to talking to a lot of those
mid-level junior bankers this week.
Cody, was that me with the stocking cap on? Just going back to kind of the wrestler stuff.
Of course.
That's me with my notorious mustache. Interesting.
You don't think that looks like you?
I feel a little bit like Solly in the wrestler there. I don't know if that's how it looks.
Randy's vibe looks so.
I'm like, all right, TC. I got Neil I got okay
Sorry. Yeah for sure Randy. I guess that leaves me in the middle. I'll send you my reference. Don't worry, buddy
Short why am I so short?
It's clear. Is this a framing thing TC?
I knew this could possibly be a point of contention, but you are the shortest one on the squad
And I had to move somebody how tall are you?
five nine
Five eight three taller than deej. No, that's no way you are
I am absolutely settle that will settle that with a happy hour cut. We'll do a true. It's your bets it now
Yeah, I could totally see this TC is gonna lose
him back he's gonna blame this chiropractor oh he's got me all fucking
misaligned he's gonna shove a little Marco heels on my I'm like do a little
inversion table action I've got one TC if you want it it's still yours in my
bag just check that then it could be like you can see Neal's Neal's elbow is
ahead of yours so maybe you're standing back TC. You're farther away from the camera.
I think. Also guys subscribe to the NLU newsletter. Let me get that in as well. Don't miss anything NLU related during the PGA Championship week.

And then thanks to everybody who keeps donating to the Evan Scholars
thing too. I think we got another big donation this week.
We did. We're kind of cooking, TC. We need to keep... Link also in show notes.
That's right. I believe it's no laying up to the book.
No laying up to the book. No laying up to the book. Evan Scholar's thing too. I think we got another big donation this week. We did.
We're kinda cooking, TC.
We need to keep.
Link also in show notes.
That's right.
I believe it's nolyingup.com slash ESF
if you would like to donate.
We've got some great, great, great momentum
going on the Evan Scholar stuff,
so yeah, let's keep it up.
And I've thrown it out there.
If anybody, you know, Casey asked,
she said, hey, this guy wants to donate.
So he's wondering how much it would be for TC to get into one of the big letter hats. And I said, I'll
do it for any, any donation over a thousand bucks. I'll do it. So hit me up.
Do they get picked on the hat? I feel like they probably do. I mean, I feel like I get,
I get right of refusal if it's inappropriate or immoral or unethical. Sure. Yeah. Yeah.
It's gotta be aligned with the TC way. I feel like you should have to donate a
hundred bucks if I'm taller than you. That's just... But deal. I'll gladly if you know,
I'll wear it as well. All right. What do you... There's another hundred bucks coming to the kitty.
I think I'm Team TC on this one. I think TC is a little taller. I think so. I'm like five, 10 and a half, Dej.
There's no way.
There's no way.
I am.
All right, well, you might be taller than me,
but I will bet my, I'll bet a lot
to get this collar foundation.
I'm taking the under on that one.
I'm gonna squish your hair.
Maybe when you add hair.
Yeah, maybe when you add hair.
I'm gonna squish your hair down, all right?
I just got a hair cut, perfect timing.
You're claiming that you're 5'10.5".
No chance. Yeah. There's no chance. You should be able to...
You're also taller than me, which I don't think can be the case. I believe I am taller than you. Yeah.
Okay. You could continue that belief. Well, happy hour. The other thing that just coming across the line...
I'll bet you a hundred bucks too. That sounds good. I didn't realize this but
the PGA Championship also does a Champions Dinner so Xander, his menu just came out. I'm not gonna,
everybody wants TC's reaction we're gonna hold that as well. You'll find out more TC's reaction.
I mean because we'll have what's going on everything Wednesday as well. So previewed
tomorrow live on the NoLang, a podcast channel just like we did during Augusta
And then we'll be back over here on Wednesday. I'm pumped boys
I think we might need to put a put a pause on champions dinners might be expanding a little too fast on
The Thomas Keller only fine for Chevron just a little
They don't have a Masters either, you know, I'm good with that, yeah, yeah. The ladies is different.
PGA always kinda has felt a little bootleg.
God, I wonder what Ben's gonna cook us for.
You know, what's his championship gonna be?
Who's gonna be there?
It's just him.
