Starting point is 00:00:00 Be the right club. Be the right club today. That's better than most. How about in? That is better than most. Better than most. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the no laying up podcast presented live on the no laying up podcast presented live on the no laying up podcast YouTube channel For the second time that we're doing this kind of not a live show but a live recording We got a lot to talk about the second major on the men's side This week at quail hollow PGA championship and we are gonna spend the majority the majority of this episode Playing a little jeopardy game a little trivia game that our guy Dej has put together.
Starting point is 00:01:07 On the back half of that, we're gonna cover some storylines first. But Dej, how was putting PGA Championship trivia together? Really, really fun. Learned a lot. Great being with you guys first and foremost. And yeah, a lot of people seem to like the 2024 season review episode that we did,
Starting point is 00:01:23 a little bit of a Jeopardy-style game there. And so we figured, you know, Quail Hollow, we see it every year. It's not necessarily the kind of golf course we need to really dissect every square inch of. So let's maybe do something a little different for the preview, and it's gonna be a good one, I think. You guys are gonna learn something.
Starting point is 00:01:39 I promise you that. TC has, you know, he won so resoundingly on the first episode, he felt like he didn't need to come back, he kind of pulled the Ken Jennings in his walking away. The two victims of his ass beating one being Mr. Neil Schuster is with us. Hello, Neil. Good to see you gentlemen. It's Monday, feel a little slow on a Monday. Hopefully my buzzer technique is I'm gonna have to
Starting point is 00:02:01 warm up the fingies. Big Randy is here as well. Hello, Mr. Big. Hi guys. Neil, God, it gives me joy when you say you gotta quote, warm up the fingies. Yeah, baby. Come on, Randy. Speaking of warming up the fingies,
Starting point is 00:02:15 Neil, I don't know. I don't know, I struggle with the transition. Everybody's feeling a little slow, you know? We're saving it, we're saving it. It's a big week. Trying to get my camera, I got my camera working again. I'm trying to get that lined up for my production squad. A lot going on on a Monday afternoon here.
Starting point is 00:02:29 But you've been in some content. I had a little window open on my, you know, in the corner of my screen from just from the bottom half only. I'm like, oh, that looks like Neil's chipping motion. Like, oh my God, that is Neil's chipping motion. What is going on there? Oh my God, that's gross. Yeah, no, film some content with Teen Titleist. Actually it was last summer and filmed a few videos that day but two that were
Starting point is 00:02:53 kind of stuck with me was the live golf ball testing with Victor Hovland. If you've not seen that I would encourage you to go watch it. The guy is a technician. And then one that came out recently was a video with Ludwig. And we were basically doing a live science experiment that actually TC and I saw up at the the testing facility Manchester Lane, but basically like aerodynamics half the golf ball has dimples half doesn't what's the golf ball going to do and just seeing the kind of look on Ludwig's face
Starting point is 00:03:26 when the ball does some freaky stuff, when they, you know, doesn't really know what to expect. But what sticks with me for both those videos is how in tune those guys are. Cody, we got audio on that. We can't, you're killing my guy, my guy Neil here. Thank you. I was saying, what's so surprising is how in tune those guys are with their ball flight
Starting point is 00:03:46 and just like the characteristics of their golf ball. So like you say to Hovland, like, hey, we want a flighty one, you know, with a five iron and it's like, yep, that's it right there. Oh, that one rises more because it's the Pro V1 X versus the left dash versus the Pro V1 X or sorry, versus the Pro V1. And same with Levin. He's like, that swing should not produce that ball. You know, like he's looking in a window and the ball's flying this way because he's hitting a
Starting point is 00:04:08 golf ball with half the dimples. Anyway, I think it speaks to just like how good those guys are, but also like how much trust they have in the golf ball. And if you're into that kind of thing, I would encourage you to go to Titleist's YouTube page, which they've been putting out some really good content, a lot of stuff that I'm not in, but you have a little peek over at the Titleist content on the Titleist YouTube page. Of course, Titles will be the number one ball this week at Coil Hollow with more of the field teeing up a Pro V1 or Pro V1X than any other ball.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Wanna give a shout out to our friends, of course, at Roeback, you're seeing a lot of Roeback on the screen. You already know it, favorite polos, hoodies, shorts, pants, you name it, best fit, best feel. It really is as simple as that. It's going to be summer. The Roeback USA collection is here. It's one of the best collections of the year. The designs are fantastic. If you need some red, white and blue, there's a lot of big red, white
Starting point is 00:04:54 and blue holidays coming up. And you can wear it any day of the week as well. It doesn't need to be a holiday for that. Roeback's got you covered. The print designs, the stripes, even added the American flag on the back of the neck just for a little extra touch. Second, the Roeback Delta got you covered. The print designs, the stripes, even added the American flag on the back of the neck just for a little extra touch. Second, the Roeback Delta Looper shorts are back in stock. I packed three of them because we're gonna be out there in Charlotte this week.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Each time I put them on, I'm amazed at the stretch waistband. It's incredible. They're wrinkle-free. They're super comfortable, perfect for the golf course, perfect for off the golf course. Time to load up on some Roeback ahead of summer. Use code NLU at ro rowback.com for generous 20%
Starting point is 00:05:25 off your first order through the end of this week. That's spelled R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com, 20% off Polo shorts and more with code NLU. Guys, we got a lot of things to discuss here, some storylines. One of the big storylines that's gonna come about this week is that we're going to Coil Hollow. Of course, we are intimately familiar with,
Starting point is 00:05:48 I feel like things can get kind of painted in the social sphere as being very black and white, as to like, is this good or is it bad? And everyone kind of just puts everything or views everything through this very, very descriptive, not descriptive lens, right? It's just very black and white. I'm gonna give you my case for quail hollow
Starting point is 00:06:06 And I just want you guys to weigh in on anything you agree with disagree with or want to add color to or if we just Want to leave it said because I don't think we need to do quail hollow discourse all week long Is that is that dude is that an agreeable statement? I? Can co-sign that I can get down with that. Sorry I'm gonna say Quell Hollow is not a bad golf course. It's actually pretty fine. It's not exceptional. It's not exciting. It's not special, but it's not bad. It's not a disgrace. It's not a bad test. I don't feel like I'm gonna rail on it all week. It's a lot
Starting point is 00:06:37 better than Valhalla, like a lot better. I feel like we've kind of put the two synonymously over the last several years. That's just not fair. I will say it's kind of one note. It's not especially memorable. Green Mile is very overrated. Just literally off-holes. There's nothing really special about that stretch at all, other than it's got a great nickname, which I know Randy loves.
Starting point is 00:06:55 It is hard. It's totally fine. It's hard. It's more force. I'd say it's probably the weaker end, if not the weakest, of the signature event venues. So when you put makeup on it and try to dress it up as a major championship venue, it's a really tough bar for people to clear considering like our
Starting point is 00:07:11 familiarity with the place. Like a tour event every year plus two PGA's and a President's Cup, like it's too much. We've got too much Quail Hollow in our lives. Listen, USGA does that with Pebble Beach. I hopefully don't have to explain why that- The ocean helps with Pebble Beach. I hopefully don't have to explain why that the ocean helps at Pebble. I hope I told you to explain that. It's obviously the course plays very differently in January and February than it does in June as well. They also do it with Torrey, which I would also argue is a very bad thing. And they should not do that.
Starting point is 00:07:37 Because I think Torrey kind of belongs that same category as quail and the farmers, it's not even a signature event somehow that is viewed as good enough to hold a US Open, but hopefully they're done doing that. But there's only two US majors that rotate venues every year. That's the US Open and the PGA. And the USGA is doing remarkable things with their events and the golf courses they're hosting them at.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Men's Opens, Women's Opens, Walker Cups, AMS, you name it. Like you go to their media days, you listen to their executive speak. It is clear that they understand the importance of the venues that you're playing major championships at. And, of course, there's an infrastructure element to all these things. There's a technology element when choosing these courses and venues. But they've done a great job in getting these courses ready for guys to hit it 340, yet playing them on classic, historic courses. And I just don't know what the PGA is trying to do. It's been a tough go these last couple years. I think the
Starting point is 00:08:26 future slate looks a little bit better for their venues after this year. I just, but this Quail Hollow, Valhalla back to back is really, really tough. And I hate to say it, but it has dampened my excitement for this week's tournament. I'm excited about the storylines and the actual golf. It's just a bummer to not look forward to a venue for a major. And that is my statement on Quail Hollow. Mahalo. I think super fair. Yeah, I think it's extremely fair and appreciative of you reading that into the record. I think that's I think that's great. I agree with I agree with almost all that.
Starting point is 00:09:00 You know, can I can leave? May I ask a question, sorry, please, besides, you know, importing the ocean and having stunning views at quail hollow, like what is there anything specific that really bugs you or that you would point to that, like, if they change this, it would get me more excited. No, and that's, that's where like, I'm kind of at in just it's mid, like, it's not bad. Like, it's not like it's lacking. If you just move the bunkers, if you just move the blah, blah,
Starting point is 00:09:29 blah, if you just do this with the like, it's, it's fine. It's just not special. Like, that's kind of where I'm at. It almost doesn't evoke emotion for me either way. It's easy to point at Valhalla and be like, hey, the shot value just was way off on that golf course, like you could pull hook it on like the longest par four. Remember Xander pull hooked a ball on the second hole. Should have been going in the water.
Starting point is 00:09:49 The thick rough stopped it. He had a bad shot out of there that got was screaming through the green and got stopped by a bunker and had a perfectly flat greenside bunker shot that he easily got up and down, hit two terrible shots, 500 yard par four. And he made an easy par. Like at least Quail Hollow has shot value to the point where it's not going to give us that on repeat this week, which is a fine thing. It's just, man, again, only the two majors that rotate venues, it's a big bar to clear. This course falls short
Starting point is 00:10:18 of clearing that bar. Again, it's just kind of mid and I wish that it was at a better venue, but it's not. I would say it's better than mid. I think it's a quality golf course. it's just kind of mid and I wish that it was at a better venue, but it's not. I would say it's better than mid. I think it's a quality golf course. It's just overexposed for us. And, you know, I think it, it, it answers a lot of the PGA of America's questions of like, okay, we're not going to like lose our shirt here. They know what they're doing. Like we can, you know, handle the crowds.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Uh, the owner and the club is welcoming to the event, which you can't say about every course that these tournaments go to. So it's like, you know, you're not going to get fired, hire an IBM. You know what I mean? Like that's, that's the decision here. Like, yeah, let's just go with the devil. We know. And that doesn't get me excited. As a golf fan, that's where I'm coming from. Yeah. And I think that's totally fair. And that's almost like not Quail hollows fault, but also stop being like, what's your like not Quail Hollow's fault, but also stop being like, what's your problem with Quail Hollow? It's like, I just, and I keep hearing the
Starting point is 00:11:08 words Quail Hollow too often is the problem. You know, that's pretty much it. And I think to your point, Neil, too, I think what's good about this week, if I was going to be slightly more optimistic is I think it's going to be a really good leaderboard. I think it's going to produce the names that you're looking for at a major championship. It's going to test the things that majors are looking to test. I don't think it's out of balance. It's not going to favor the Bombers way too heavily. I'm saying that in the year 2025, where everything is kind of a little bit out of whack anyways.
Starting point is 00:11:44 I think it's about as not as good as you're going to do. It clears the bar from a, we're looking to test guys at a major championship perspective. It's just like you, I mean, I was going through watching the flyovers and kind of, you know, you kind of get bored watching the flyovers of the place where you're just like, yeah, what, what hole is this actually? Hold on. I kind of lost track. And so it's, I don't know. I think we're getting kind of saying the same thing over and over again. Okay. So, putting it back to like personal experience, you know, we all four of us were at this 2017 EGA Championship. A kind of a, you know, a big, a big week for us, right? Golf adjacent comes out, you know, kind of the, the seedlings of our video operation. video operation, you know, Sally's dappin' up JT after the win, you know, just, just good vibes, good vibes all week. I struggle, you know, I could close my eyes and picture
Starting point is 00:12:30 a couple of spots on that course, you know, towards the back, like the reachable par four, but like the holes fall out of order for me pretty quick. It's like, is that 14 or 15? President's cup confused that as well. Yeah. And so that, that's where I'm like, that's not a good sign if that's like a very memorable week, but you know, it's just a really, really green big yard. You know what I mean? Like just your classic Southern backyard vibe. And that's going to run together a little bit. And so, you know, not to say that like each hole is, you know,
Starting point is 00:13:00 it's got some quality golf holes out there, but they don't stand out real well. Um, the way, even like something like TPC Sawgrass, right? There's almost visual hooks for that course for me versus when I watch Wells Fargo are now truest every year. I just don't have a lot of hooks on that course. It's just especially hard to have it one week after its normal spot on the calendar as well and that it like screams, it just doesn't scream major, you know?
Starting point is 00:13:26 Like it feels like it's the Wells Fargo, which is now the truest of course. But anyways, and the rain is not gonna help a lot of things. That's not their fault, not the golf course's fault. French City USA. Really, really, really not good. Some images coming out of Charlotte today makes it look like it's gonna be a little soggy.
Starting point is 00:13:46 They're washed out, completely wiped out of play today if you're listening to this on Monday. There was no fans let on. Hideki was out there hitting putts. Austin Ekro posted it on Instagram. One of the, I truly don't know what we're working on here Hideki, like of all people that struggles with their putting. I don't know what the lesson is here, uh, but out there and just standing water on the greens, uh, getting some work in. And he shout out to our guy from 2017, you know, can, can Hideki win? I mean, with this kind of work ethic, I think so. I really do.
Starting point is 00:14:17 There you have it. The question on top of everybody's mind this week. Um, all right. We're that's the golf course is a storyline, but, uh, as we normally do on this preview, let's going to go, we're going to go around the horn, we're that's I think the golf course is a storyline but as we normally do on this preview, let's gonna go we're gonna go around the horn we're gonna draft draft is never the right word here but go in order of claim it off the board if you want of the top storylines the things you're most curious about as we look to crown another major champion this week. I'm
Starting point is 00:14:38 starting with my guy Randy what is the top thing on your mind heading into this week the question you want answered or the storyline you're most intrigued by? I think it's, I mean, some people will say I'm overdraft. No, I'm not going to do the Michael Block bit. In all honesty, I think it's Rory McElroy following up the Masters. How free and loose is he? Is he going to pick off another major? Is this gonna be the beginning of a Rory dominant streak? Could we get to the US Open with hopes of a Rory grand slam? I think that's easily the top story after what he did at the Masters. It's big of you to say that, Randy.
Starting point is 00:15:20 I was just gonna say, Randy's front office in a really tough spot there. Such a consensus number one pick, but it's not what his team wants or needs, but he still satisfies the fan base that goes for it. I kind of would add so much respect if Randy had traded down. I would actually like to trade down before. We just don't need the number one pick this year. Neil, I would love for you to trade into this number one storyline. No, a, no, it's a fiduciary responsibility I have to the listeners of this here podcast. Obviously agree with that, Randy. Not only after the Masters, but also going to Quail Hollow specifically
Starting point is 00:15:53 where he's won four times and just been a completely dominant presence. It's this weird fun combo, right? Where it's like, if he had not won the Masters and now we're 11 years and counting even more, and he's going to, then it just becomes like, dude, you got, come on, man, you gotta win here. And now it just, it should almost flip from like,
Starting point is 00:16:15 you know, kind of stressful to hopefully like, oh, look at this, the deck's kind of set for me here. What a thrill. I'll say this, like it's still unrealistic to expect Vory to win this week, right? But it is like, hey, let's give What a thrill. I'll say this, like it's still unrealistic to expect Rory to win this week, right? But it is like, hey, let's give this a run. Like we've gotten off the Schneid. If anything we've learned, though, these are really freaking hard to win.
Starting point is 00:16:33 Don't waste the opportunity. Give it a run. Do not shoot the opening round 74. That's like that's the whole thing for me with Rory right now. He's almost if he doesn't do that, he's gonna top five. And even then, I think you can kind of view that as a six just give it a run, give it a really good run. For what we like we just saw us at Augusta. How many Eagles did he make? How many times did he chip in? How many miraculous shots that he have to hit for that to you know, miraculous shots on
Starting point is 00:16:56 the opposite end as well. But like so much shit has to go right for you to win. It's going to be hard to win. Don't start the week thinking with that kind of pressure to start the week of like, let's give it a serious run. I think we can call this a quality week for Laurie. I mean, God, the more I think about his master's run, it's like, it must just terrify some of his competitors to know like how stupid he was and how many bad doubles he made. And he's like, might be the only guy talented enough to come back from that. Like, it was only got talented enough to come back from that. Like it was unbelievable. Like how, like double the first hole on Sunday. People forget that, unbelievable stuff.
Starting point is 00:17:29 So yeah, but I think I'm with you, Randy. I think that's the number one storyline. Would you like me to go next? Please. I'm taking JT off the board as a storyline. I think PGA's and Quail Hollow, it's the happy combo for our guy. I know we mentioned 2017 earlier. That's where JT got his first one. Would be an interesting storyline for JT to win three
Starting point is 00:17:54 majors and all of them be PGA's. I don't know if that's something I'd want really on my resume but hey, we'll take it majors anyway we can get them. The sick part would be two golf courses, like two golf courses. Exactly. It's like, you know, then the limited field events and the can only win at certain, certain stuff that chatter starts, which, you know, fair or not, it would be fun conversation. But I think JT has been like surging this whole year. I mean, I go back to basically him getting left off the president's cup team.
Starting point is 00:18:24 And I think since then, it's just been like him grinding and it was really fun to see him, uh, get, get a win at heritage. And he looks like he's just rolling the rock. Like every time he comes on my TV screen, I'm like, that putt looks like it's going in. And so his ball striking on yesterday, um, At Truist looked a little sus down the stretch, but like he's, he's top 10, top five, like he's just around and he kind of has his swagger back.
Starting point is 00:18:54 And so I think it's also a storyline because fair or not, it's almost like spaghetti and meatballs, like JT and Spieth. So it's gotta give the Spieth lovers out there a bit, basically all you boys here on this, this, uh, this program, some hope that, that are the beautiful boys Jordan Spieth can do something similar. Uh, but I just give, I just want to give JT a ton of credit, number one. And number two, like, I think he's kind of, um, I think he's here to stay. I don't think that the heritage was like, he, he used up all his chips, kind of like when Ricky won it at rocket mortgage and everybody wanted it to be like, oh, he's back.
Starting point is 00:19:28 And it's like, no, he's not back. This JT feels a lot more sustainable to me. His play does right now. He always struggles at the Masters for whatever reason, but if you throw the Masters out his last three starts, Valspar solo second, he won the heritage and then T2 yesterday at the truest. Like he's been, he's his worst finish outside the Masters since March 23rd is runner up. It's, it's, it's serious golf. Neil, to your point, you know, having three majors and them all being at the same one, a lot of like very old players, Scottish players, have only one Open.
Starting point is 00:20:07 But I think we would be in the territory of the most modern example would be Hale Irwin winning three US Opens and no other majors. That would kind of be the company JT would join there. Wildly, wildly unfair by me here, I'm aware of three U S opens. I love that. So different three U S opens is so sick. Yeah. Three PGA is so like, eh, come on bro. Yeah. It has a little bit of like Matt every at Bay Hill. No offense to anybody, but you're right.
Starting point is 00:20:40 Two of them are at the same place. Yeah. That's, that's interesting. The only tiebreaker I'll throw in for JT is they'll also gotta players, you know? Yeah. That helps, just the case, just a little, just a little. Those might eventually get turned into majors. That's true. You gotta keep watching who's stacking up those players' championships.
Starting point is 00:20:57 You're right, I'm just ball striking the shit out of it, man, which is very fun to watch. It seems like he's in a good place. I think the kid stuff can always be, people can gloss past the whole life change stuff, but he just feels like he's got his feet on the ground and playing good golf. Seems like he's in a great spot and I'm excited to see what happens this week. DG, you're up next. Yeah, I can't believe, I mean, my, there's a watch-along party at the local bar for my draft, my draft room. I can't believe this guy fell to number three. What if I told you there's a player in the last five majors who's gone T six second
Starting point is 00:21:32 win miss cut T five. That's Bryson to Shambo. This golf course could not fit any better. It's scary. Who you know, I know doesn't play the PGA tour anymore, but played Quail Hollow very well when he did I just I think it you know, we kind of said this coming into the Masters But it just felt like this two horse, you know It's either gonna be Scotty or it's gonna be Rory and this week It just kind of feels like it's either gonna be Rory or it's gonna be Bryson and I'm kind of sort of slowly inching towards towards Bryson the more I look at it and like I'm kinda sorta slowly inching towards Bryson the more I look at it, man.
Starting point is 00:22:05 Really thick rough, really rewarding of distance, and the way that he can still somehow hit those really high soft ones out of the thick rough like that, it's pretty mind blowing, and I'm excited to see it a little bit in person this week. I don't know, Rory obviously is the 1A course fit here, but I kinda think Bryson is like a close second.
Starting point is 00:22:27 I'll go as far, like, not the actual course history, like literally on the golf course, but if you just looked at what this course favors, Bryson would be 1A over Rory for me, honestly. Like, he, so there's a great data golf newsletter that goes into like Bryson's driving season that he's had and we have data from live events now, like 21 measured rounds on live events and four measured rounds in Masters. His off the tee game in 2025, he's gaining 1.97 shots per round off the tee. Just without, I know that number does not mean
Starting point is 00:23:01 a whole heck of a lot. What do you think Rory's is? Like, what do you think Rory's off the tee gain is? Again, Bryson's 1.97. I mean, it's probably 1.2. Rory's 1.07. Yeah, like Xander, I was looking at Xander's stuff earlier because I was weighing him as a pick too.
Starting point is 00:23:16 And it's like dominant, dominant driver of the golf ball. Right? And he was always kind of right in that plus one range. And so for Bryson to be almost double that, like, yeah, it kind of says everything you plus one range. And so for pricing to be almost double that, like, yeah, it kind of says, says everything you need to know. Well, get this, he's the longest and also he's hitting on average more than one fairway better than average, which like to be considered an accurate driver, you hit one and a half more fairways than the rest of the field. He's hitting more fairways and he's that long. So basically like he's putting together,
Starting point is 00:23:45 he's putting together the best off the tee year in the ShotLink era by far. And he's threatening to be only the second person ever to break the two shots game barrier in a single category. The only other one was Tiger in 06 when he had 2.2 per round on approach. Like Bryson could do that off the tee this year. And again, this is all of course, that favors putting. Like Bryson could do that off the tee this year. And again, this golf course that favors putting too,
Starting point is 00:24:07 like Bryson, you put that, you know, the level and everything, he can get out there on the greens and back into his hands. He's just not having a great iron season, but like, if he's gonna hit it that far and putt it really well, like this is a golf course he absolutely can win on.
Starting point is 00:24:21 And like, I'll just spoil it probably for Wednesday, I'm gonna struggle to pick anybody other than Bryson to win this week. Like he's on a great run in majors as well. And he just seems super primed and the rain definitely makes me think his chances are getting even better. Is there any data golf stuff about around rain and weather? Like guys it like mutters basically like a mutter strokes gain mudding I bet I bet I bet bet spurts they seem to live something called the rabbit hole Which like you can dig in on all that stuff of like grass types and and lift clean in place in all kinds Anything you could ever possibly want. I'm sure they would have something that you could dig in there
Starting point is 00:25:00 But I haven't I haven't looked into that specifically Great question. All right, you guys took a, I was, yeah, the Bryson one was my number one pick, but let's do Scotty. Listen, he's the favorite. He's the number one player in the world. He won by eight the last time he was out. Quail Hollow is not. Craig T. Nelson James TPC, but it is like, we're going to need to at some point, and we might as well put the spotlight on it now. We're going to need to see you win a major away from Augusta. Like that's very comfortable place for you. And it's you know, it's a place where it's the easiest major to win in theory, if especially if
Starting point is 00:25:36 it's a good course fit just with the limited field and all that stuff. I want to see you slug it out in a in the hardest with the hardest field in golf. And it I don't know when I don't know when we ramp up the kind of the critique or the spotlight on him to get one of these, but I think at least by the end of the year would be fair. And this seems like again, a good fit for a straight of a driver as he is. And as long as the drivers he is, this should not be a bad Scotty Scheffler golf course by any means, not like perfect perfect for him but seems like a place he
Starting point is 00:26:05 should be in contention and I'm just that's I'm intrigued to see this one because he seems to be just kind of human at major championship venues outside of Augusta or courses that he hasn't seen before I mean I've never played it yeah or tc said the other place is the president's cup it's like that doesn't seem to go as well for Scotty when he's, when it's his kind of first real visit to a place. I mean, maybe I'm reading too much into that, but, uh, I'm surprised. I'm honestly surprised. He's the favorite over Rory.
Starting point is 00:26:37 Um, but I can understand what Bryson is cause people don't see him as much. Um, I mean, even for me a little out of sight, out of mind, but you just kind of sold me on Bryson and Solly, especially with the wet conditions. But Scotty having the edge of a Rory is truly surprising. Does that surprise anybody else? It does, it does. Until, I mean, the only hedge I guess I'll throw on, listen, I wouldn't be shocked if Scotty won,
Starting point is 00:27:01 is you can look at his PGA championship record, you know, T4, T8, missed the cut T2, T8. And so it's like, he still plays great everywhere. And so it is kind of the, why haven't you won here? You know, all you do is top 10, that's not good enough type stuff is always does get kind of a little bit, a little bit funny. It's, it's kind of a little bit a little bit funny it's it's kind of what Rory went through for the last five six years as well, but You're right. We do need to see the ball go through the hoop at another golf course, but I just want to
Starting point is 00:27:34 Throw the flag that he's still playing really fucking good everywhere else, too Agreed agreed. I just well, you're right All right See him go out and murder people the way he does in these sickies and these other other kind of events. So Randy back around I mean god, I guess we got to talk about it. I think my guy sustained a pre-draft injury I'm not sure when he's gonna be available, but Jordan Spieth going for the career Grand Slam I mean, could we see it two majors in a row? Rory, of course, did it last month. I wish I felt better about Jordan. I just don't actually think of him as a real contender, which sucks. He's more of just kind of a novelty. You know, you can tune into his round if you want to watch some weird stuff. He's sure to deliver on that.
Starting point is 00:28:27 But it, it, yeah, I wish he was a genuine threat, but I don't think of him as one this week, but I, I still need to respect that, you know, if he were to win reaching in the draft for an explosive player, he would win the career grand slam, Neil, some great traits, guys off the chart. Have you seen his vertical jump? I mean, he's just got like just combine porn, but it's just, you know, it might not fit right with our scheme.
Starting point is 00:28:53 Quick question, quick answer as fast as you can. Do you think Cory Connors can win this week? No, just see where I'm going. Just see where I'm going. I'll say no. Little Cory at the Big Bad Green Mile? No. Vic Hovland? Yes. Yeah, definitely. Wow. Shane Lowry? Yeah. Yeah, but. Alright, well I expected those to be quick no answers because those are all the guys in the in the odds range of Jordan right now. He's plus six thousand. Yeah. He's so he's so popular though. He's plus 6000 to win. You're back, man. Yeah. Stay less.
Starting point is 00:29:25 He's so popular though. He's like the Cowboys or the Steelers. I feel like they always got to juice up that line for him. It would take a pretty miraculous week. I mean, just with how good of a fit it is for some of the best players in the world playing the best golf with a very clear advantage that he doesn't have off the tee. My goodness, it would take just such a magical performance. If anybody can do it, it's him, but like. Which is why you have to take that storyline here in this year draft. Sure.
Starting point is 00:29:52 I mean, what a story it would be, you know, that's that. Well, a lot of the other PGA venues don't get like a ton better either, right? Going forward, I mean, it's going to be a lot of the same. Oronomic shouldn't be as bomber-y next year. Frisco's still waiting to see what's gonna happen there. Don't really know. Olympic Club. I would say would be Frisco. I would think that would be better than this. But yeah, I'm not convinced that he's gonna win a PGA because he just doesn't contend weekend
Starting point is 00:30:20 and week out like he used to. Corey Connors T13 T8 in his last two appearances at Quill Hollow. Just put that out there. I feel like he's the guy that can absolutely top ten and I still don't think he's going to win. All right Neil. Okay I'm not taking a human. I'm taking a group of humans. My storyline is where are the American golfers? Okay? I just I was looking this up earlier the euros and the international players are balling out this season We have 13 wins by players outside the USA so far this season eight wins by us-born players I think Rory's kind of stolen the spotlight in that top thoroughbred category if you will away from say Xander and, and Scotty and throw Bryson in there too.
Starting point is 00:31:08 I just feel like he's eaten up all the oxygen or breathing it up, I should say. And then of most of these like eight US winners, they're kind of non-needle movers. No offense to Brian Campbell, Joe Highsmith, Russ Henley, but it's almost like other than JT being that one bright spot. Xander, Colin, Max, Sam Burns, Berger, like what the fuck guys, you know, whereas you've got Sep Straca winning twice. You've got Ludwig getting a getting a big signature win. You've got Hideki kicking the year off. Like, you know, I look at like Sep Straca and Colin as like those mid-tier, maybe upper mid-tier Ryder cuppers looking at you, Sally,
Starting point is 00:31:46 set definitely a lock for that rider cup team. The American like MIT, you know, Peloton middle of the pack is just kind of not really doing much. And so I'm just, I'm just wondering if at a big American ballpark, we're going to see some, you know, some depth from the American side of golf. That's my storyline. Thank you, Neil. That's very interesting. I like that. I like that. I'm fascinated to see. I'm, yeah, Neil, I think you should get mad as hell if you don't see some of these Americans
Starting point is 00:32:19 step up. Because I noticed truly. Yeah. And then you start to like, you look down, I don't know, now I'm getting into Ryder Cup territory, but I'm like, God, I don't feel great about the guys like four through nine on the Ryder Cup team. You know, throw JT in there feel good about him. But like, I remember, like two months ago, we're talking about the Collins a lock. Yeah, okay, sure. But like Sam Burns, like, dude, that guy's like the forgotten man.
Starting point is 00:32:47 You know, he's not doing shit. And he was like an anchor piece of the last team Brooks. You know, I'm not here much out of Brooks over on the live, live tours. Okay, like Bryson's balling out over there. I don't know. Maybe I'm just getting a little too worked up. But I just feel like the depth in the middle of the of the European and the international, those guys are showing up and balling out. And I just think they deserve some credit for that.
Starting point is 00:33:10 I agree. I agree. I hope they're fitting Novak for that Ryder Cup stuff right now. We'll see how he does. All right, Deid, you're up with your next story. Is that going to be your next storyline? No, it's not. It's not. These guys are little boys each. Go ahead. God, I got two players I'm looking at here. Could go either way. I'm going to go with my heart. My head says one, but I'm going to go with my heart. I'm going to go with Ludwig. What are we going to get from Ludwig? What's going on here? My man has played five majors in his career, had some very high highs, of course, second and seventh at his first two Masters, but just not playing good golf since the Masters. T60 out of whatever that was, 70 guys at Truist, T54 out of whatever that was, 70 some guys at Heritage.
Starting point is 00:33:59 It's just not good right now. The ball striking is pretty bad. I was sending you guys over some some stats earlier just like he kind of makes his hay with flushing the irons and he's just not been flushing the irons this year outside of his win at at the Genesis down at Torrey Pines. It's like it just hasn't been sharp hasn't been a Leo Neil. I don't really know what our guys are guys doing. So I don't know if this is gonna be one of those
Starting point is 00:34:24 Brooks Koepke, you know, who knows what that guy's doing, but I don't know if this is going to be one of those Brooks Koepka, who knows what that guy's doing, but he always shows up for the majors because that's kind of been how he has played the majors so far. But I just think it's a very interesting week for Ludwig at, again, a place that should fit him really well, a place that should be, the deck should be stacked pretty well. I wonder if he can get it kind of lined up.
Starting point is 00:34:50 That was going to be one of mine as well. Dej, it's been a sharp decline really. I mean, he had the big win at Torrey. He should have won at Torrey twice really, but it hasn't been good since then. Really hasn't. Masters aside, which he might just be an awesome Augusta course fit for all we know, but should line up well for him. It's an interesting comp you made with Brooks in terms of like, are you just gonna not show up for the tour events and just ship all out in majors? I hadn't thought of it that way. But that's an interesting one. We'll see. We're just we're still gathering data. You know, they're so early in this with Ludwig. It's interesting.
Starting point is 00:35:17 I'm gonna so we are about almost basically three years into this thing. I think a big storyline going into with this breakaway league, the Saudi backed live golf league, if you remember, was going to be how do these guys prepare? How's this going to affect like preparation for majors, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I don't think I've really seen it spelled out this way. I think it was kind of like, all right, Brooks one one Bryson one one, like, yeah, the lift players have done really
Starting point is 00:35:45 well in majors. My guy Ron Kloss put some data behind it. He said, out of 18 golfers that have signed with Liv and played in at least 3 majors since joining, 14 of those 18 have performed worse on average in major events compared to their 3-year strokes gained average per round in majors before joining. So Rom was 2.58 down to 1.5. Brooks, 2.56 down to 1.3. DJ, 2.55 down to 0.48. Cam Smith falling off. Louis Ustazen falling off. Bubba Watson falling off. Patrick Reed falling off. Bryson on the rise. Hatton on the rise just a little bit. And Nieman, iman like holding steady. That's really all there is to report. They were averaging like 1.5 strokes gain prior, down to.8. Their average finish went from 43rd to 58th, top 10% from 23% all the way down to 15%. So just straight up looking at the numbers, there's been a pretty serious decline overall from the 18 players that have played in at least three majors since joining. And I found that interesting and noteworthy is where you get this far into it.
Starting point is 00:36:47 Bryson has papered over a fair amount of that and Brooks's win is doing a lot to carry that. But outside of Brooks's, you know, he had the second place, the Masters, and then won the PGA in 2023. Those are the outliers since he's been injured. Like he's been a complete non-factor in all the other majors, both prior to going to live since that injury and other than those two. So, you know, that, I don't know if that's a developing storyline, necessarily. It's just to say, like, yeah, they've got enough
Starting point is 00:37:12 golfers in there that they're going to have some guys in the top 10 and the top 20. Rom, Hatten, those guys are just very consistent performers, but kind of tough to argue with some of these numbers this far into it with a, I'd say it's a pretty decent size sample. So, interesting story. That's interesting interesting. First of all, I said none of those stats count the app, which is interesting. That's true. I would say the second thing or team wins. I think it would be wild if you went back to the great, you know, either the ROM news or even just like the majors of the last couple of years and just be like, ROM is not going to be one of your eight top storylines is like, you know, would be kind of, kind of
Starting point is 00:37:54 mind blowing, you know, I mean, a couple of those guys are and this is just the nature of that league where it's like, a couple of those guys are just kind of reaching their natural end of their playing career, which is I guess, maybe the only the only kindback I would make there. But it is interesting. I mean, the ROM stuff's the most interesting. I think Cam Smith is super interesting. Yeah, that's a good one. That's good numbers. Or as over at Friday, I had a really good write up on ROM being kind of like a big storyline for the year. It's like if he continues to not year, you know, it's like, we that if he continues
Starting point is 00:38:26 to not show up at majors, that gets really interesting. The longer it happens. Of like, nothing worse in the world than wasted talent, baby. That's right. Kind of starts to feel like wasted talent. Any other instead of going around one more, any any other lasting mentions we need to make before moving on from storylines? I got one question for Randy before we do. I feel like we gotta, you know, guys won two of the last five, I feel like we gotta mention Xander.
Starting point is 00:38:52 I know he's kind of on the way back, and you know, I mentioned it earlier, I was digging into some of his, just hasn't been quite as dominant off the tee this year, coming back from injury as he was last year, so at a place that's pretty driver heavy, you know, you would be looking at what he's going to do, what he's going to do this week off the tee to kind of dictate some of that.
Starting point is 00:39:12 Um, but he's kind of slowly been chipping away since coming back from injury, just getting a little better, a little better. Certainly hasn't been as dominant as, as he, he was last year, but T12, T8, T18, T11 in his last four starts. So again, at a place that seems like it's going to fit him really well, I just want to throw his name as somebody who probably will be there. And I would say, God, I wonder if there's any activations for the X app this week. You know, marketing, any growth hacking going on for the new everything app.
Starting point is 00:39:46 Did we ever talk about that on the podcast? Xander starting his own app? Okay, good. I must not have been on that week. But just want to... Randy, did you download that? Have you been followed on for exclusive content? I think it's a good way to get the closest to him. That's no, Randy told me before this here pod that that's the only app that he has push notifications on. Yeah. New drops from Descente. Randy's all over that. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:14 No, I know I don't. I have not checked it out, but maybe, yeah, maybe I'll download, give it a spin this week. Brandy, our guy TGL in cell wants to know with Rory's rebirth, in the words of Big Randy, which player or players have 12 months to live? Are you willing to put anybody on notice or what death watch? TGL Incel gets so much burn on this pod, by the way. He's always got good questions.
Starting point is 00:40:38 Yeah. Him and Squeezer Hot Cuts need to start their own pod. No, I think the worst thing I could do is try to, you know, too quickly move from Rory to somebody else. I will just say like legitimately, probably not a bit. I do worry about speed. I was gonna say Jordan would be, would fit the bill here to be nominated.
Starting point is 00:40:57 What was his last major? 2017? Yeah. It's bleak. It honestly just makes me depressed thinking about it. God, Randy's like a death eater, like the mentor. He's just like the slender man. I was gonna ask you guys, I'm surprised we haven't mentioned Tommy Fleetwood. Oh, TC had a good Yeah, TC had a good one on our call this morning. Just like guys, you know, I don't want to be doing
Starting point is 00:41:21 the whole Tommy thing. Not just being like, Oh, yeah, like, we'll make sure not to bring that up. I think that's like played out, you know? Oh, yeah. Listen, we're bringing him up every week. We're not bringing him up. None of us are gonna be great. If he has a great week, TC can't claim it. Like for once, he's sworn him off. He said like, this is a bad course fit. Like Tommy's not going to do it this
Starting point is 00:41:41 week. Like if I've ever felt the inkling to dip my toe in the Tommy Waters, it would be this week. Which is so interesting because what's the, like everybody's high on JT. And Tommy played well here in 2017. Doesn't JT and Tommy feel like they have kind of a similar course fit? Like kind of similar profile? Well, yeah, sure. God, now I'm rooting so hard for Tommy.
Starting point is 00:42:02 I might put a little wager in just to be able to root for it. And I might get so hard for Tommy. I might put a little wager in just to root for it and I might get TC something for it But 40 top tens now that now that the leader by a by kind of a mile right in career top tens without a win And growing yeah rapidly. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think Brett quickly is gonna chase him down in Big swings bigger payouts fan duel is the clubhouse leader for betting major golf. You know what, guys? Fandool's got a lot of great stuff in store for this week. First off, we've teamed up with them to give all customers a 30% profit boost on top five,

Starting point is 00:43:31 rg-help.com. The rest of the odds are as follows. Scotty is plus 400, Rory plus 450, Bryson down to plus 950. He was plus 1100 last night. I don't know if that line has moved. We are doing this live. So I don't, oh, we have moved the line. It's down to plus 700 now. I was going to say even plus nine 50 is kind of like, I feel like Scotty Rory is going to flip though. That, that just doesn't make sense to me with just like, I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:43:57 I feel like Rory's just been in everybody's grill of late casual fans showing up. Like it feels like Rory would have all the action on him. But again, Just won a thousand times here already. Yeah, I don't got with you deal. Scotty could also make this negative odds by Friday afternoon for all we know though. So yeah, Bryson Yeah, he's down from plus 1100 plus 700 rom plus 1800 JT plus 2000 he has lower odds than both Xander and Morikawa who are both plus 2,200. Ludwig plus 2,500.
Starting point is 00:44:29 Joaquin Nieman plus 3,300, get fucking, come on. Patrick Cantlay plus 4,000. Tommy Ladd plus 4,000. Tyrrell Hatton, Hideki and Brooks all plus 4,500. Shane Lowry plus 5,500 as is Victor Hovland, Corey Connors and Jordan Spieth plus 6,000. Sep the Ryder Cup lock plus 7,000 odds to win this week along with Russell Henley. P Reed there with Jason Day at plus 8,000.
Starting point is 00:44:57 Then you get in that Burger Man, Wu Lee, Sung Jay, all at plus 10,000 or more. Anything stick out to you guys about what we see on there The Bryson one was That seems to be moving the correct way. I think that's only gonna keep keep shrinking if I had to guess Xander plus 2200 feels like yeah, I feel like Xander's in a good spot for him. Yeah under the radar So you'll hear yeah that I was late on getting on the Bryson stuff I mean truly I entered I don't even know when I entered this into our agenda at plus 950 That was not even two hours ago and it's already moved down to plus seven I don't know if that's a rain thing as in it's it's it's fitting him even better
Starting point is 00:45:43 But yeah, that's the one that I'm probably still going to get involved with in some way. But I just think it's interesting that that Rom is as better odds than Xander, those two specifically, I can understand JT, because he's kind of trending and he's played well last week. And like, Xander, I would almost flip Xander and Rom if you told me to like, guess the lines, basically. A lot Lot of respect not a lot of sick for more cow either dipped all in plus 2200 But again, I'm not sure how good that course fits gonna be for him But alright, I think it's time for the main event Dej if you are are ready to take us there and explain to us how we're gonna do this and how it's gonna work
Starting point is 00:46:20 Absolutely, you know what? I just clicked for me on the more cow I think with Joe Griner now He's a past champion at this golf course follow that that little nuggy away. Our guy Max won here. But we are going to be playing Jeopardy, guys, for lack of a better term. Of course, this is brought to you by our friends at Bazinga.io, the free Jeopardy generator that you heard so much about on the season recap episode this past winter. We're gonna be doing pretty standard Jeopardy rules here. We're gonna do five categories, five questions each. We got a first round, we've got a double Jeopardy,
Starting point is 00:46:54 we've got a final Jeopardy, you guys know the rules. And I mean, unless you guys have any questions, without further ado, I think we can kinda just jump right into it. I'm ready to rock. Yeah, so this Jabris brought to by Stu sync finish business here for me. Yeah, do you have a different strategy today, Neil? Or you're just gonna let it rip? I'm just gonna let it rip. I don't know any other way, brother. All right, I like it. Your guys's buzzers work. You should be seeing a buzzer disabled. We did a little practice. I just want to make sure the buzzer is not gonna enable until I to the question. Okay. Your guys' buzzers work.
Starting point is 00:47:26 You should be seeing a buzzer disabled. We did a little practice. I just want to make sure the buzzer is not going to enable until I finish the question. Wait until I finish the question, Neil. Okay. All right. Should we get into the categories? Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:47:42 First up, LPGA. This is just the PGA. Most stars are are gonna take this one just gonna be some questions about the PJ championship unfair advantage we have Brooks was here okay hollow quail mmm he just so good at this forget me please just a couple of forgettable PJ championship performances and you're so last year we're gonna be looking at last year's PGA. Solly, it looks like you have the board, which is interesting because he legitimately might pitch a perfect game. I don't know if you guys are ever. Oh, come on. That's offensive, dude. I invented the guy. You know, we don't talk about it much anymore, but Brooks was here for 200. Let's get started there. Let's do it. Good luck to all the players.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Three of Brooks Kepka's five majors have been won in this state. Randy. Oh, uh, what is, uh, New York? Randy, I eat my words immediately. Congratulations. The board is yours, my man. Let's go. Let's go. Hollow Quail for 400, please. This player holds the course record of Quail Hollow, a 61 shot in 2015. Sally, who is Roy McIlroy? Who is Roy McIlroy? That is correct. Sally, the board is yours. Brooks was here for 400, please. In his PGA victory at Oak Hill, Brooks won by two over Victor Hovland and this American. Who you guys think stinks and cannot win anywhere other than one place. Solly. Who is Scottie Scheffler? Who is Scotty Scheffler? Your board Solly.
Starting point is 00:49:28 Same category for 600 please. Keppka's victory at Belle Reve handed this player his third runner up at the PGA Championship. Solly here we go. Who is Tiger Woods? Who is Tiger Woods is correct. Brooks for 800 please. Brooks's PGA win at Bethpage made him the number one player in the world. Fittingly, he took the title from this player who finished runner-up. Sully. Who is Dustin Johnson? Who is Dustin Johnson? This bad boy is coming home with me. Let's go for the Category, let's finish it off. Sorry to get to 3200 since the switch to stroke play only Tiger and Brooks have accomplished this feat at the PGA. In fact,
Starting point is 00:50:14 Tiger has done it in every major except the U S open. Sorry. What is winning back to back? What is winning in back to back years? Kind of crazy. Brooks has done it in the U S open. It's the only one Tiger has not. Buzzers delayed. Let's go LPGA for 200 please. LPGA. This is EL space PGA for the listeners. Very clever by me. How many? 200? 200 please. Although the oldest player in the field in 2024 was 61, all PGA champions receive an exemption of this length. 2021 was 61 all PGA champions receive an exemption of this length. Sorry, what is 10 years?
Starting point is 00:50:50 That is incorrect. There goes the perfect game Los Zars to get on the board. What is? Five years that is even worse. I think I know the answer. I'm going to abstain. I don't. It's a lifetime exemption lifetime exemption you get for winning. Uh solid. You're bored still LPJ for 400, please. This is a good one. The blank Wanamaker Trophy, the full
Starting point is 00:51:17 title of the PGA Trophy shares its name with this man, one of the NBA's great rebounders. Randy. Oh, I'm gonna go, uh, who is Charles Wanamaker? That's incorrect. Oh, you're gonna be kicking yourself, man. Nobody knows? I don't know. That is the Rodman Wanamaker trophy. Oh my goodness. I thought about putting something worm related in there. I thought I would probably give it away. You know, I almost guessed Moses Wanamaker, but I just thought that wasn't going to be it. LPGA for $600, please.
Starting point is 00:51:58 LPGA for $600. It's a daily double, Solid. How much would you like to wager? Tough category so far. I'll'll just go. I'll do a thousand. Two-time winner, Justin Thomas is the ninth PGA champion with a parent that holds this distinction. Uh what is a PGA professional? That is correct. That was Randy Neal. I was trying to throw you guys a boat. Maybe thinking you'd get
Starting point is 00:52:24 a daily double there. That's gross. That was Randy Neal. I was trying to throw you guys a boat. Maybe thinking you'd get a daily double there. That's gross. That'd be an easy one. Kind of backfired on me. This is what happens, man. You try to tiger proof these places. It just blows into his hands even more. Solly with 4,000, Randy and Neal both minus 200. Solly, it's your board. LPGA for 800, please. With his historic win in 2021 Phil Mickelson became the oldest major champion in history
Starting point is 00:52:48 breaking the record of this player who won the PGA at age 48. Sally who's Raymond Floyd as incorrect. God, I should know this kind of another basketball name. I'm being honest. I should know this. Kind of another basketball name, if I'm being honest. Nobody knows. That was Julius Burrows.
Starting point is 00:53:13 I wasn't going to get that one. That one hurt. All right, category closer for 1,000. LPGA for 1,000. Despite not hosting until 1970, this course's five PGA championships makes it the most visited venue in tournament history. Neil, I hope you looked this up. I tried giving you this one earlier at a meeting. Who is it? Atlanta Athletic Club? Not even close.
Starting point is 00:53:36 Oh, that's what I was going to guess. Really? Yeah, they've definitely hosted like many times. Not five times though. Solly? What is Oak Hill? Not right. host it like multiple times not five times though sorry what is oak hill not right um no alabstain southern hills has hosted five times i 1970. I didn't know that. I wasn't going to get there. Hate it. Solly, coming back for a little bit. 2200.
Starting point is 00:54:08 Forget me please, 200. At Oakmont in 78, a 79 in the first round led to this player missing the cut in a major for the only time in the 1970s. Los Zars. Who is Jack Nicklaus? That's exactly right, Neil. Jack Nicklaus. I couldn't think of another way to phrase that. I just wanted to work that in. He missed one cut in the 70s at a major.
Starting point is 00:54:32 That's bananas. He finished outside the top 10 like four times in the 70s, I'm pretty sure, in majors. Let's go Forget Me Please for 400 each. Last time the PGA was at Quail Hollow, that was 2017. This player fired a 79 in the first round, snapping a streak of 21 consecutive made cuts at the event. Zars.
Starting point is 00:55:00 Who is Tiger Woods? Sorry. Damn. Oh gosh. Who's Phil Mickelson? It's only one other guy. It could be. 21 times in a row. He made it out of the PGA. Nuts. For he plays 600. Apart from his runner-up finish at Belle Rive, not counting his runner-up finish at Belle Rive, Tiger Woods' last top 10 the hard one and you're not gonna believe it. 2009. 2009, I wanted to say that. Wally Yang. Yeah. Last time he finished in the top 10 outside of that one one spark at Bell Reade. That's very speezy. Great Jeopardy question. Willstay, forget me please, 800 please. Good one here too. At Whistling Straits in 2010, this player started the final round with a three-shot lead before an unlucky 81 left him in a tie for 18th.
Starting point is 00:56:06 Sully. Who is Nick Watney? That's so good. Well done. Can't believe you remember that. I only remember that because he was in the picture with DJ and making the ruling afterwards. That's the only reason why I remember that. Forget me please for 1,000. This Lynx master held a five shot lead through 54 holes at the 1978 PGA, but ended up losing in a playoff to John Mahaffey. Los Zars. Who is Jerry Pate?
Starting point is 00:56:42 I'm sorry. Is he a Lynx master? No. Randy. Who is Jerry Pate? I'm sorry See links master. Starting point is 00:57:09 but missed the cut in every other major in 2024. Los Zars, I know he's going to get this one. Who is Victor Hovland? That's exactly right. Victor Hovland, you're bored, Mr. Zarr. Well, we'll stay. You're so last year. We'll stay here for 400, please.
Starting point is 00:57:24 Very few in major championship history have done this. Xander Schauffele became just the fifth to do it in the opening round of last year's PGA. Solly. What is shoot 63? Incorrect. Very close. Nobody wants it. Shoot sixty two. I can't stop. I really couldn't have been closer.
Starting point is 00:57:56 Literally could have been closer. I totally forgot. I will stay here for six hundred. Scotty Scheffler was arrested at Valhalla by this officer whose pants were valued at approximately $80. The czar. Who was Officer Gillis? Yeah. Oh my god, that's right.
Starting point is 00:58:14 Congratulations, Neil. Well done. Moving on. You're still last year for $800. That's a daily double. Oh, here it is. For the czar. I don't know how this works.
Starting point is 00:58:25 Yeah, how does work with I think you can go up to 1000. Yeah, give me 1000 baby. Looks like they're going to let you do it. All right, Zander's opening 62 helped lead him to a wire to wire victory. But how quickly we forget that this major champion also put up a 62 in round three. I definitely forgot that this happened. What a freaking golf course. Who is... Justin Thomas?
Starting point is 00:59:01 Oh, sorry. Shane Lowry. I did not forget that that happened. I don't think I ever knew that that happened. Oh, now I have memories of it. Uh, I'm sorry, but it is a year more than a thousand. Eight live golfers receive special invitations into last year's PGA, but only this player declined the invite citing an undisclosed personal commitment.
Starting point is 00:59:30 Sorry. Who is Richard Bland? Incorrect. Good guess. That was stupid. What I see. Kind of one of those you're not going to remember but like after you hear you be like, oh yeah, I guess that's right. It was Louis Oosthason. He got a special invitation and said that's okay I won't be participating. Alright you've been avoiding the Quail Hollow questions like the plague. Neil, where would you like to go? Let's go Hollow Quail for 200.
Starting point is 01:00:01 200. I'm tired boss. Tired of hearing the last three holes at Quail Hollow. 200. I'm tired, boss. Tired of hearing the last three holes at Quail Hollow referred to by this nickname, that is. Solid gets in there first. What is the green mile? The green mile. That's correct. Well, six hundred. Yeah. This
Starting point is 01:00:18 category. Six hundred. The last time the PGA was at Quail Hollow. The runners up were a trio of now major champions. Luis Ustazen, Francesco Molinari, and this player. Randy. Who is Brian Harmon? Great guess, but no. Yeah, I was thinking that too, Randy.
Starting point is 01:00:36 I'm glad you put yourself on fire. Who is Hideki Matsuyama? Incorrect. Neil, I'll give you a hint. He went to the same college, at least for a little while, as Brian Harmon. Oh, wow. Oh, man. Oh, my God. Yes, czar. Who is Patrick Reed? That's right. Oh, what a hint that was. The Kemper Open was only at Coil Hollow for 11 years. That's right.
Starting point is 01:00:57 That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. That's right. I don't know if you guys are still neck to neck there. G800, Hollow Hollow.
Starting point is 01:01:06 The Kemper Open was only at Quail Hollow for 11 years, but this architecturally minded player won three of them. Good one here. Good one to put in your back pocket. Three times. I want to say I'm at risk 800 but yeah can't nobody knows nobody knows. Oh Randy I'm gonna have a go let's
Starting point is 01:01:40 say Jeff who is Jeff Ogilvie yes. Yes but no but it was Tom Weiss cough. I'm wise cough definitely when I got in that the I hope this is right. Who is Robert Trent Jones? That is not right. Dang it. Let's make it some movies, man. He's letting you know, he's not playing away from flags. Rory in the back nine of the Masters. I just I can't go backwards on this one. God, I want to answer this though. It is Neil. Why do you I don't have any I don't have a good good answer. I have no clue. That's't have any. No clue. That's George Cobb.
Starting point is 01:02:26 Yeah, no way. That was heady. Soly, do we need to pay any more bills before we move on? We do. Before we get to the second round, listen, we got a little close to the sun there. I might have touched it in the guy. I got a little burn. I wasn't wearing enough sunscreen. What sunscreen do I wear?
Starting point is 01:02:42 You might be asking. That's of course, Oars and Alps. It is my favorite sunscreen for all the reasons, I'll give you these specific reasons why. One, you don't end up smelling like a pina colada when you wear it. It's lightweight, it's not greasy or sticky, it doesn't leave the white residue,
Starting point is 01:02:56 especially in the beard. That's always very unavoidable thing with a lot of other sunscreens. It's simple, it's fast, it's easy to use, it's got a great spray radius. You know't, you know, it's kind of risky to be, to have a spray sunscreen that doesn't have a good radius because you can end up getting burned if you don't get the proper coverage. They got a lot of great hands-free options. They got sprays, they got mists, they got sticks. So you don't get that sunscreen feeling on your hands. That's
Starting point is 01:03:19 always the worst. Men are not wearing enough sunscreen. It's degrading our health. Only one in seven men wear sunscreen on a daily basis. And golfers are 250% more likely to develop skin cancers. And skin cancer rates have risen 55% among men the past decade. Wearing sunscreen daily will reduce your risk of melanoma by 50%. They also got a bunch of other great products. They got an anti-aging face moisturizer, face and scalp mist, they got
Starting point is 01:03:46 this antioxidant sunscreen spray that I'm talking about available on SPF 30, 50, 70. Also travel size SPF 50, which is great for the golf bag. Take the skin quiz, build your own kit, check them out at oarsandalps.com. Again, that's oarsandalps.com. Great, great product and we appreciate their sponsorship. Great lip balm. Great everything.
Starting point is 01:04:08 I love the oars and alps stuff. Rules. Might put it on for a little good luck here for the second round. All right, round two, guys. Are we ready? We have currently. I'm coming.
Starting point is 01:04:17 I'm so ready. Solly at 1,600. Listen, we're gonna double the money? That's not odd. Gettable. Yeah, he's still gettable. Heading to the back nine here. Some good self-control there at the end of round one, Randy.
Starting point is 01:04:28 I'm proud of myself. Los Czars in second place, minus 2,000, and Randy minus 2,600. But going for it, which I like. This is a win-now mentality. And I gave that freebie. The charity that you gave. That was like 600. Relax.
Starting point is 01:04:43 Well, that is the difference between you two. Alright, round two. Here's what we got. Round two's got some bangers. I love it. First, losers. There's gonna be a lot of runners up in this category. State of play. We've got We see cat mate. Slam ball. We're talking some grand slam. And before and after musicians and PGA champs. You guys familiar with the before and after. I'm not sure about this category for me. You know how that works? That's like you take two things that like the last word is the first word of
Starting point is 01:05:24 the next one. So it'd be like Jimmy Walker Texas Ranger something like that how do they all musicians how long this take you to put together this category I was by so far the fastest category I was really I could have made 200 of these these are so easy the rest were much tougher Los Zars it is your board all right let's get out of the way before and after musicians and PGA champs I don't think it's gonna be good for 400. Yeah, for 400. Okay. You're gonna see how it works pretty quickly here. The Rocket Man who was still standing at Crooked Stick. Los Zars. John Daily. Who is John Daily? Like I don't understand how to phrase
Starting point is 01:06:01 it. I think that's all right. I don't understand how to freeze it. I think that doesn't work. I'm sorry. Sully. Who is Elton John Daly? Elton John Daly. That's exactly right. Now, Neil's locked in. I think he's got it. How's it going? Sully, it's your board. Let's stay there for 800. I'll forget how this category works if we veer from it. The great state of Wisconsin has hosted four PGA championships, three at Whistling Straits, and one at this Milwaukee area course. Los ours. What is blue mount blue mound golf and country cup great stuff from the czar. I think Walter Hagan won it way back in the day. That's that's

Starting point is 01:12:58 made a splash at the President's Cup that year. Pretty good writing by me if I do say so myself. I will agree. Who is shit? Who is that's not him? Who is Mark Brooks? Woody Austin is Woody Austin. Yeah, the the the the the the
Starting point is 01:13:39 the the the of tournaments from 1998 to 2002. We're talking PGA's here. Tiger's victory at Valhalla in 2000 marked the first time a player had won three majors in the same calendar year since this player accomplished the feat in 1953. So who has been Hogan and Hogan is quicker. Correct.
Starting point is 01:14:22 Correct. Your board over 10,000 now. We'll close the category for 2,000. Starting point is 01:16:28 Who's room McElroy? Unfortunately, I was trying to drown him in words there. That was a lot of words. Maybe trip him up. I was thinking North Carolina, and yeah, it's South Carolina. You're talking Los Carolinas. All right, we'll do the final part.
Starting point is 01:16:40 Final question. Solly now 23,000, looking to add two more here of the six players to complete the modern career Grand Slam. Only this man won his first major championship at the PGA. It's a hard one. Be a baller answer. Somebody could get this one. Come on, Randy. Be a baller for for once. I think that's a good one. I think that's a good one. I think that's a good one. I think that's a good one. I think that's a good one. I think that's a good one.

Starting point is 01:18:09 I think I did it right. I might have missed it all. The youngest PGA champion in history is this man, who was just 20 when he won the first of his three titles. Do you think we're just going to give this one away? Yeah. Oh, sorry. I can play. Can I play music? I don't know if you guys can hear that or not. We hear it. Yes. How much time do we have?
Starting point is 01:18:34 You know, don't be as much as you got for that last question. Yeah. It was a little bit of a mess. I mean, I think it's a little bit of a mess. I think it's a little bit of a mess. I think it's a little bit of a mess. I think it's a little bit of a mess. Yes. How much time do we have? You know, don't be as much as you got for that last question. Yeah. Oh, my touch screen isn't working.

Again, the question, the youngest PGA champion in the history is this man who was just 20 when he won the first of his three titles. Los
Starting point is 01:19:51 Zars have said Jerry Pate. I don't know. Did he win any? Yeah, he won one in Atlanta Athletic Club. Oh, that's true. That's true. $1000. That is incorrect. Unfortunately, he was young, but I don't think he was. He was very young. He was coming off the US Am win. I don't think he was quite 20. Randy has said, who is Mr. Nicklaus?
Starting point is 01:20:12 A good guess, but unfortunately, no. Also, he won five, not three. He has wagered 1,000. So those penalties will offset. Solly, finishing the race has said, right. Hagen. I don't think that's right, but I actually don't remember now. He wagered 19,000. Wow, which is sick. I'm pretty sure it was
Starting point is 01:20:37 Gene Saracen was the answer. Yeah, Gene Saracen. So nobody got that. That's a tough one. Maybe too tough of one. It was late at night. I was looking for a final question. I felt like a proper test there. Those who know, know. Your winner with $2,600 down from $2,500 or whatever he had is Solly Randy, the tortoise of the hare.
Starting point is 01:21:03 Comes in second with minus 1,600 and the czar. the Guys, I want to thank everybody for playing. That's a real thrill to go through those. It was fun to watch you play. The live viewers kept going up. I was waiting for people to start dropping off if that was bad content, but that was actually really, really good questions. Really well done. Neil does not have... Unfinished biz continues. Hey, we're trending. I think I was in like the negative 3000s last time. Definitely got more right this time around. That's for sure.
