I was thrilled to find another peach in the fridge here this evening because the high noon the high noon ice teas are just fantastic. The lake pack brings together real vodka and crisp iced tea packed up for maximum flavor to bring wherever your day takes you high noon spirits.com to find a pack near you. High noon suns up they continue to just continue to stunt on people adding new flavors and new variations every single week. You gotta be careful in those lakes down there though
Starting point is 00:02:09 Sally. I know they haven't released a lake pack in Florida I think that's because there's too many gators and stuff in the lakes down there but I think up in the Midwest it's so it's a pretty good weapon that lake pack. I want the people to know my parents have decided to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary later did you have something you're going to say on on me? I I want the people to know my parents have decided to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary later this
Starting point is 00:03:30 summer at the Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. So, I look forward to getting out there. I I've been watching the video. Goodbar and I are going to play golf. I'm very excited. Are you getting chipped off on that vacation? A little referral
Starting point is 00:03:42 referral link or something? Nothing. This is uh this is a chuck and peg just you know making things happen. I would I would be remiss if I didn't mention Omni Omni Frisco gonna be in the bright lights next week. I believe with KPMG LPGA as well. That's right. That's right. So we got a big big night. We've got one round of golf left at the United States Golf Open. Uh we are gonna talk about the story of the day of course as we as we always do start thinking. Brandi, you're going to have the first draft pick.
Starting point is 00:04:07 So you're on the clock. Officially, we had we're going to do a new game. We said we're going to we're going to do the take in the envelope. We had each of us put five takes in the envelope before the round started today. Five predictions. We're going to unveil those to each other and see how we did. Judging by everybody's face, not great. We sent them to Cody. It's not like we can just go and revise our, whatever our takes were. They're blind. Yeah. We submitted them. Yeah. We didn't publish them, but we submitted them and we've not seen each other's predictions for the day. We are of course going to check in on the proper test index, the Randy Corp PTI, how we look in tone on that one.
Starting point is 00:04:48 We're going to talk about what a win would mean for some of these contenders. We've got a little clearer picture of who we're going to be focused on tomorrow. Of course, we're going to talk about how far back is too far back, and we're going to give some final predictions, check the odds, things of that nature. Big Randall, as promised, you have the first draft pick. What is your story of the day today? I think gentlemen, I think there's a clear consensus, number one overall story of the day, and I'm going to leave it on the board for you guys, because I'm going one, I'm
Starting point is 00:05:20 going to go what caused what I think you guys are going to say is the story of the day. I thought the rain softened up Oakmont a little bit today, which in turn, I think, allowed the final groups to really play some good golf, much, much better scoring than I thought at the beginning of the day. So I thought the rain was perfectly time for those final four or five groups. I thought guys like Spahn and Burns and Adam Scott. I thought they benefited. I thought there was a bit more zip in the greens. I think everything just softened up just enough where that course was kind of, if I'm being honest, it was in that middle where it wasn't hard enough and it wasn't easy enough for me, which made for a bit of a letdown today. But my big story is the rain.
Starting point is 00:06:12 I hope we don't get any tomorrow. I was loving how this course was looking through two and a half days. It could have been worse. It could have been worse with the rain. It could have been worse. It really could have. And it doesn't look great, great for tomorrow,
Starting point is 00:06:24 but it doesn't look catastrophic either. I think I'm going to end up giving DJ a layup here for story of the day, because I'm just not going to let the 54 hole leader also the 36 hole leader not come off the board first. Sam Burns, 335 PM tea time this afternoon. It's a lot of waiting around thinking about sleeping on the 54, on the 36 hole lead. And man, it just was really impressive. The driving was not perfect, but how many times, three or four,
Starting point is 00:06:54 I think I lost track, three or four times he had to punch out sideways out of the fairways and he scrambled for par, I think, at least on three of those occasions. He only made two bogeys on the day. He remains one of the best putters in the world and has been for quite some time and he is leading the field in Strokes gained approach his iron play has just been awesome. He's hitting all kinds of golf shots nippers scooters wedges You know after he's getting himself into trouble
Starting point is 00:07:18 He's saving himself with wedges and just really impressive golf for somebody that hasn't been under the gun in a major championship To survive that day like has me thinking he's a bit we'll get to the odds later. He's a very clear favorite in the odds and a lot of respect is being showed to him in that lens. And I think it's earned at this point, not like watching all of the stars just become little boys. Over the last three days, it's even more impressive probably than it looks. I think that's right. I loved so much on the golf today. I thought it was a very proper US Open round of golf despite the rain and
Starting point is 00:08:01 despite maybe the greens being a little softer. It was like every time he drove it out of position, he had to take his medicine and he pretty much saved it every single time. Those wedges that he was hitting in there were diabolical. I mean, it was really, really, really fun to watch him hit the, you know, two hop and stops all day into those, those nasty pins. He's the kind of player too, I think, You know, he's been playing better golf obviously, but he's not really the tip of your tongue
Starting point is 00:08:29 coming into a week, you know, first five, six picks off the board type of player like he has been in the past. And he was in this position today, I think, where he could have shot 75 and we'd have been like, ah, well, what are you gonna do? Sam Burns, who else is up there? And he did not do that at all. GC, he did not let anybody, he kind of suffocated it a little bit and just wasn't going anywhere.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Wasn't going to go backwards. And it was just, it got really fun to watch after a while. And I think, you know, we can talk about Oakmont and, and how it is as a us open venue kind of after tomorrow. But I think my big prediction coming into, especially after the first round was like this style of golf, thick, rough, everybody's making bogeys, not a ton of easily identifiable holes.
Starting point is 00:09:14 It kind of leads to a pretty boring first 54, 63 holes. But once it takes shape, it gets really good. And I think that's what happened in that last hour was when you have places like Augusta, Sawgrass, Kapalua, I would put on this list, like places that are kind of almost like, I don't care what's going on in the tournament. I just want to watch guys hit shots. Oakmont's not that kind of place. And so to your, to your point, Randy, it's like Shinnecock when they're almost, you know, losing the golf course is that kind of place where it's like, I don't care what you're showing me just show me shots after shot after shot after shot
Starting point is 00:09:49 Oakmont's not like that Neil said it very well after the Thursday show where it's a little disorienting You don't quite know where you're at on the property or who's playing what or or yada yada yada But once it kind of became clear like alright, man, it's it's Burns, it's Spawn, it's Adam Scott, and it's Victor, then all of a sudden you can kind of sink into the round and really feel a little bit of gravity on each shot. I felt that once we got to like 13, 14, 15, and kind of the story started to take shape. It just got really entertaining and Sam Burns kind of was the stud coming out of that. Two things real quick.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Sam Burns has played obviously 54 holes, six sets of nine holes. He is, he only nine holes he's played over par were on Thursday when he finished bogey, double bogey, bogey on that back nine. He has shot 34, 38, 34, 31, 35, 34. It's been a very complete performance. And on the on the Oakmont front, I think like we were pretty adamant in the previous stuff that we said, like, this feels like I thought Scotty was gonna win by a lot. That's let's get that out of the way. That's not looking like it's gonna happen. Still not
Starting point is 00:10:56 giving up on that. But the other part is like, I don't know what the hell's gonna happen. Like this place was just was primed for some big time mystery of who was gonna ace this test. Well, getting to some of the odds of the top five up on the leaderboard. And that was not in a lot of people's predictions how this was going to go. I don't think that's a knock on Oakmont. I don't. Some people may view it that way. I get the point that maybe some people are not in love with this leaderboard and the excitement
Starting point is 00:11:20 that today brought. That's fair. I don't agree with that as far as what I enjoy, but it was a little slow at times today, but it's a very serious, very serious test. We can get into some of that detail later if we want to, but I just, having watched all these other guys fail at this test, it is an amazing test of skill. It really is, and even if the names at the top
Starting point is 00:11:41 are not the ones you expected, doesn't mean they're not playing incredible and deserved golf. Well, I think that's what's really fun about it is I'll no offense to Carlos Ortiz, but I'll put, I'll take the top four, burn Scott spawn and Hovland. And never in a trillion years would I have penciled those four as like these four are the dudes, but also looking at that leaderboard, I'm like, Oh yeah, okay. I see how they're doing it. That makes total sense.
Starting point is 00:12:04 I see why it fits their games. I see how they're doing it. That makes total sense. I see why it fits their games. I see why they're you know, it's been a little bit different styles, right? Like, JJ spawns hitting a ton of fairways and he finally hit a ton of greens today. Sam Burns is kind of not driving it great, but still getting away with it through iron play and a great short game and Adam Scott's doing both it's and Victor's kind of, you know, embodied even more the Jordan Spiethness that you gloss glossed on to him Adam Scott's doing both. And Victor's kind of embodied even more
Starting point is 00:12:25 the Jordan Spieth-ness that you glossed on to him, Sully, but Randy, I know you haven't been on the last couple nights, but how's kind of your Oakmont experience been and what we've just said over the last five minutes kind of tracking with how you're feeling? Yeah, I was giddy through yesterday. Like I said, truly, this course was providing the test that I thought was
Starting point is 00:12:48 everything I could hope and ask for in a US Open. And while the conditions I think led to the flip side of like the weather, right? I mean, and all credit to the guys who played well, you still got to go out there and hit shots. And I don't want to diminish that. Um, I think what's fun about this leaderboard, you could tell me that those top four, I don't necessarily trust any of them tomorrow, which I still think adds a lot of intrigue to the proceedings, you know, even a guy like Adam Scott, right? His near misses we've seen at the Open Championship. The other three guys untested really final round of a major and at a place like Oakmont where man if if it kind of starts to spiral a little bit, it's just going to seem like a bogey barrage tomorrow. So I am excited about Sally to
Starting point is 00:13:39 your point. Yeah, this leaderboard might not look the sexiest, but also like we could be talking about somebody in this like 123 like I'm not counting Scotty out either at four over par tomorrow. I think there is a lot of intrigue. And I'm hoping today was a little, you know, hey, yeah, you guys, you guys ace the test, but hey, we're gonna have another one tomorrow. So let's study, rest up.
Starting point is 00:14:08 I think that's what has me excited. But Deidre, to your specific question, first two days, positively loved it. I thought, well, the PTI will get to, the PTI was saying the same story. It was up there. I had to check your math, I didn't believe the number. I know, exactly. So, yeah today today was a little easier than I would have liked but uh I still think we're in for a very fun and you know a complete mystery tomorrow honestly.
Starting point is 00:14:37 You could tell me 10 different guys would win tomorrow and I'll believe it. Can we agree Randy? I feel like on a lot of US Open shows over the past years, I've had to talk you into when it is too easy, even if I agree that it's not through any human error, do you, which are you of the opinion this is not too today was not too easy through human error of the setup committee? I agree with that because I thought early in the day, I really enjoyed how the course was playing. I thought, yeah, yeah, I'll let's. Yep. Yeah. Love. It's a goddamn deal. Well, can't believe it's still on the board, guys, with the third pick. I am going to take 44 year old Adam Scott.
Starting point is 00:15:17 I was playing the final final group tomorrow at the U.S. Open. He's driving the shit out of the ball. He's hitting the shit out of his irons. He's putting it very nicely. He looks like a U.S. Open player. He's without a double still on his card. He's charting his way around. And I just feel like it would be an unbelievably fitting. KVV said this in our slack. I think Oakmont and Adam Scott, I can I can see that, you know, that feels good in the club history.
Starting point is 00:15:45 Feels good on the Wikipedia page. Feels good for that 2033 deep dive into the past US Open at Oakmont. I can get down so hard with Adam Scott at winning at Oakmont. That will be my rooting interest tomorrow. And man, was I impressed with his round of golf today. What kind of struck you guys about Adam Scott? Well, 187 off 18T.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Like you thought it was juice. There's no way, like these fucking NBC track, man, they're so juice, there's no way. And then I'm looking at all his other radar data for the week, I'm like, oh no, he just is mashing the ball. Okay, I was not familiar with how much speed you had added. That's interesting. Yeah, it's, I mean, he's a, it's not something that I think of a lot when it comes to the beginning of major weeks, or we even talk about that much on this show. And the more I thought
Starting point is 00:16:36 about today, I'm like, man, I feel like we should have talked about how one major for him is light for his profile, for the length of career that he's had. And man, it just seems like he can whisk all that away with closing the door tomorrow. I, again, I have no idea what's going to happen. I'm hesitant to make any kind of predictions for tomorrow. You could talk me into any of these guys winning at this point, but it would be a surprise if 44 year old Adam Scott could last this long. I mean, his play has declined over recent years. I mean, it's, it's not a secret and that's evident in the numbers and, uh, I'll be rooting for him. It's a heck of a story. It's a heck of a, I, I just,
Starting point is 00:17:14 I really admire the guy's work ethic and his commitment to the game and how he's balanced a worldwide travel schedule for 25 years as it stands now and still cares greatly about his golf and the game of golf. He's been on the schedule for 25 years as it stands now and still cares greatly about his golf and the game of golf and I think he would be an excellent United States Open champion but that might be me getting a
Starting point is 00:17:34 little caught up in a in a storyline more than anything. I it's the best storyline. It's the best storyline possibility. We we can say that. That's interesting. Yeah, the top names like of the top. You like it more than Hovland? I mean, I think Hovland would be a great, you know, hey, first major, somebody
Starting point is 00:17:50 that we've we've expected a lot out of. We can get there. Adam Scott, uh, solid to your point. What is he second in the field in strokes gained off the tee this week? 23rd driving distance, tied for 12th in Fairway's hit. That was a big thing that we had all talked about in the preview, marrying up those two
Starting point is 00:18:07 statistics. So yeah, it's, it's been very impressive. And I think, I don't know if he'll feel this pressure, but I do think tomorrow's round is, is fascinating in so far as if you do get it done, that second major, man, that second major is humongous on somebody's resume especially a guy like him who we expected a lot out of he's he's shown flashes of greatness world number one. I mean this sounds unfair but it seems like. that second major and if this is the last best shot he has at that major, we could look back at Adam Scott and be like a little disappointed overall. And I think that completely flips 180 if he wins. And it's like, oh yeah, Hall of Famer, like maybe he didn't win four or five majors,
Starting point is 00:18:55 but you can't argue with two majors, 15 PGA Tour wins. So I do think it's a fascinating day for him. I don't mean this literally based on kind of their career as a whole, because I think you're right. Adam Scott had a lot more pedigree, a lot more upside, a lot more superstardom. But I would go back to every single word we said about Justin Rose at the Masters and how impressive it is to keep doing it. I mean, I don't think Adam Scott, I don't think he needs the dough. You know, I don't think he, I don't think he needs to be on the PJ Tour board, taking those meetings. I don't think he needs to constantly be in the gym. You know, he could have absolutely disappeared. He's clearly like a very private guy who probably hasn't absolutely loved being in the spotlight as long as he has been. He could have disappeared and surfed and hung out and played his guitar for the rest of his life and instead he's busting his ass and
Starting point is 00:19:51 you know probably like a lot of what we heard from Justin Rose like with no certainly no guarantee that you're ever gonna be in the final group of another major. You know it's like you're you're that's why you're doing it. You know I don't think he's out there to win a bunch of week to week PJ Tour events. He's out there just because it's like, maybe it all lines up one more time. Maybe I get one more. And that's like, I don't know. I sound cheesy right now, but it's like when you're getting up every day and going to the gym or going to hit balls or going to do stuff away from your family or whatever, like that has to be the driver. And so for that to,
Starting point is 00:20:20 to pay off for him this week is fucking awesome. And that's, that's what I think that's where I joined you, Sully. I'm like awesome. And that's what I think, that's where I join you, Soly, I'm like, I think that's the best storyline, but maybe that's just me getting older a little bit. I mean, do you think for those reasons, he's almost under the most pressure tomorrow? Whether that's self-imposed or otherwise? Yeah, I don't know, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:20:39 That's a really good question. You'd have to ask him, I think, but it's like, I think that he- Hopefully he'll speak. I don't know. Yeah. I don't know. He doesn't, I think if he's approaching it the right way,
Starting point is 00:20:52 hopefully a lot of the same stuff you heard from Justin Rose is like, it's all gravy at this point. You know, I don't think he needs it necessarily. I think hopefully he's looking at it as an opportunity rather than, you know, some death sentence if he doesn't get it done, but it was a tiny bit of mental. He's like, I'm glad I'm one shot back and don't have to sleep on the lead kind of somewhat common. He said, uh, in the post game, I was like, I want to hear that. I mean, you'd rather be a shot up.
Starting point is 00:21:17 I don't know if that's, uh, you know, I think it's great for him that he is in the final group. There's, I think there's something about being, you know, in that. I think it's great for him that he is in the final group. There's, I think there's something about being, you know, in that final two, some, I like that for him. And I mean, think about for all he's done for the game too, like just abs for the last 10 years, absolutely punting a tire back to the field, like just dressing in horrific colors for a solid decade,
Starting point is 00:21:42 just to like not stunt on his competitors. Let's not, let's not look past that. I mean, it's been wearing colors for a solid decade just to like not stunt on his competitors. Let's not look past that. I mean, it's been some really bad stuff. What would you suggest he should be wearing? I mean, if he just, he was wearing like the crispiest sweaters back in the day.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Like he was like a Burberry model. And then he just became, I don't know what happened with the mismatching Browns and all of that. But I think he honestly was just like tired of stunting on people. I threw you an alley open to the first row. I thought you were going to go to the H and B read. Oh, listen, you can grab a piece of the US open with our friends at Holderness and Bourne. I'm off my game, man.
Starting point is 00:22:18 That's what I mean. Get back on D. Lookin', I'm like Scotty this week. I'm pulling, I this week. I'm left. I'm left all week. Uh grab a piece of the US Open with our friends at Holderness and Born. Their entire US Open
Starting point is 00:22:32 collection is available now on their website. That website is hpgolf.com and be on the lookout. They're they're dropping their entire summer collection Tuesday the 17th coming over. They got new colors. Cody showing some of
Starting point is 00:22:44 these up on the on the screen right now and over Blue Bottoms, ivy bottoms, cape colorway, saffron colorway, ivy. That's a very Oakmont feel. And if you're in a pinch, you know, an H&B gift card, you can send this little segment to a spouse of yours that they may have forgot about Father's Day or if you haven't gotten anything for your dad. Your dad would make a gift card for your dad? That's a no-brainer. H&B gift card would make a great Father's Day gift. You can also use code NLU10 at hbgolf.com for 10% off your first order.
Starting point is 00:23:11 That is the only, that and the trap draw are the only discount codes in the market for the entire world for H&B. That's hbgolf.com. We've worked with them for almost a decade and they make incredible stuff. You guys got some polos on. I'm wearing the Lawson hoodie,
Starting point is 00:23:24 which is just, it's unbelievable, it's so soft. It feels like a thousand dollar hoodie and it's not a thousand dollars, let me tell you that. I bought this one at Tree Farm because that's how much I love this hoodie. So, nlutennhbgolf.com, 10% off your order. Let me say this about H&B as well.
Starting point is 00:23:40 I was talking to you guys before. TC always wants, you know, understandably, always wants us in the latest color ways, you know, show off the new H&B stuff. I haven't ordered H&B stuff in years because the stuff never wears out. Yeah, I'm always like, I'm like, oh no, I wear those shirts all the time.
Starting point is 00:23:53 I don't need new shirts. What are you talking about? So I finally got some new ones and it was a joy to unwrap them. So thank you to those guys. Here's the final thing I wanted to add on Adam Scott before we get into it. It's been a long time since we've been in this position. I was kind of, you know, he's kind of had some backdoor top 10s, top 10 like T10 at the Open last year, but really if I'm being charitable here, I think we got to go back to probably, let's
Starting point is 00:24:28 see, 2019 US Open, he shot 68 in the final round to vault up the board. I think we got to go to the 2019 PGA probably was 74 in the last round to fall to T8. That kind of feels like the last time we've really been under the pump in a Sunday major championship which is six years ago almost that's that's not a that's not a small thing I don't think so you know I don't know if you guys have anything to add there we'll get into predictions and all that students that's gonna bail the takes I think it's all right the takes if you're just's time we face it. All right, so here's the takes. If you're just joining us, here's the thought. We're thinking of segments today.
Starting point is 00:25:09 We're brainstorming. And we're like, oh, you know what would be kind of fun is, shout out to the old Ryder Cup stuff, the man in the envelope. We're like, what if we put some takes in the envelope? Before this round starts, let's each write down five takes. Here's five things we think are going to happen. And we'll put them in the envelope. We'll send them to Cody, no one else can see him. And we'll unveil them one by one on the show that the thought to add an extra wrinkle here, I don't know if this worked for you guys or not, was kind of to go and like, put your best guy out first, you know, and see how many you could you could stack up. So
Starting point is 00:25:41 I was just shooting from the So I was just shooting from the head. I was just solid was more of a Tom Watson type of captain just I You know that the order just put them out there roll the ball out Let's make this kind of channel in my project at Hearst from the school on the top of several years ago Like what do you need? Oh, you need five? Okay. Yeah here five Granny which five would you put out? I don't know So without further ado solid, I believe is first. Let's let's hear your first take. This was your first thought on what was going to happen today. First take is a good one. Sam Burns leads. I said it minus one. I thought it was
Starting point is 00:26:17 going to be harder than it was today. You didn't know it was going to rain? Yeah, you didn't know. And I mean, honestly, adding that minus one, that's like two takes in there. Oh, dude, I wish I went specific here. I mean, I was going, you know, it's fun with specific predictions last night as well. But I went very specific. I said next up, I said Scotty is going to be four back at plus three. He's at plus four is eight back.
Starting point is 00:26:41 I'm not going to call that one. I'm not going to call it a dub. I'm not gonna let you guys call that a dub. Okay. God, where's one two? Come on, don't be so hard. I'm not. I'm not going to call that one. I'm not going to call it a dub. I'm not going to let you guys call that a dub. OK? God, where's the good one? No, come on. Don't be so hard on yourself. No, no. I got to call my own penalties on myself here.
Starting point is 00:26:52 That ball moved. And that's a penalty on me. You know what? I think I would have goes on to that one. I would have put that in my envelope as well. I think that was a good prediction. Unlucky. This one was closer than it's going to look.
Starting point is 00:27:03 OK? And I thought I was going gonna celebrate this like 90 seconds, maybe nine and a half seconds after he hit the first shot of the day, which I thought Victor Hovland was gonna make a triple today. And he got lucky on one that he found that ball and his third shot hit a tree and redirected onto the green. He only ended up making bogey with that one,
Starting point is 00:27:23 but I predicted he was gonna make a mess. I thought he was going to make a mess on one hole and he tried to from the very jump. Well, why don't we, why don't we linger on Hovland for a little bit? Cause we didn't, we haven't really talked about him yet, but yeah, that first tee shot again, you mentioned, you know, on Thursday, like he might be the new Jordan Spieth. Even Jordan Spieth might be the old Jordan Spieth. He might be the new, like who knows? He's also still Jordan Spieth. He's also still Jordan. But that first tee shot from Hovland was just like, oh, yep, like that's it. Like cut to Hovland, reaching
Starting point is 00:27:51 in the bushes, trying to find his ball. I was like, what are we in for today? And God, he settled down, man. He settled down and looked really, he looked like a real golfer there. Randy, what was your takeaway from watching Young Hove? Yeah, God, I, I, I thought we were in for a long day. And again, this was, this was a little bit pre pre moisture. Two bogeys in the first three, but, but credit to him, you know, he's been talking about he's hitting the ball well. And the iron play showed up. I mean I mean hit it fabulously on on his approach play did not drive the ball well But I was really impressed, you know, I think exemplified by that up and down on on 17
Starting point is 00:28:37 It's a moment of the day. Yeah, like I think Vic was just like truly man He he got the ball in the hole today I I don't think and honestly it gives me a lot of Hope for him tomorrow like I think he almost maybe got away with his his poor play today Perhaps we'll see I I could see him kind of taking a lot of weirdly taking a lot of confidence from today being like man I put a good number up without Necessarily having my a game which I think is super impressive
Starting point is 00:29:09 I have been of the opinion that I don't trust him to make it last 72 holes like it doesn't look sustainable I'm not guaranteeing he's gonna play great tomorrow, but I'm off of that Like I think what he's doing is like sustainable like he's clearly playing very good golf I'll give you this round one proximity to the hole number one in the field 22 feet 4 inches round three proximity to the hole number one in the field 22 feet 4 inches exact same proximity in rounds one and three third in iron play for the week. Proximity might not be a good thing with some of those pins though. This on the wrong side of some of them, yeah, you could be three feet away. You're totally pork.
Starting point is 00:29:47 Some of those you'd rather be 50 feet up the hill than three feet above the hole. Like totally. That's anyway, we might, we might throw that one out this, this week, but I think it speaks to Manny. He looks like he's confident. He looks like he can win this championship. And I know that's a total eye test thing, but I'm just impressed with the way he's carrying himself and I think he believes that he can win. It's gotta drive a little better in my mind. Iron swing looks so good. Cody just sent this quote into our chat here. Pretty pleased with how I batted this from Victor obviously. Pretty pleased with how I battled out
Starting point is 00:30:20 there. Didn't get off to a great start. Just kept plugging along, hit some great iron shots, made some nice putts around The turn there really nice par putt on 15 and an awesome birdie on 17 a little bitter about my driver I just can't seem to figure it out. It's kind of a lingering problem all this year. It's just kind of pissed Which is good stuff and I would co-sign that with with some of those the swings We saw down the stretch particularly the one on 18, that seemed to be him externalizing the feeling of this is just kind of pissed there.
Starting point is 00:30:50 Good stuff from death metal speed. Yeah, speed is really good. So it's not my that was somebody said that on Twitter. I like that. So let's get to your your fourth prediction here. Yeah, this one didn't end up great. Ben Griffin's going to be in the final group. He finished very poorly. It was not that close to happening anyways, but doubled 18,
Starting point is 00:31:15 bogeyed 14, 15 and 16 as well. That was 74. He's sitting there T11. I'm still team Griffin. I really liked his team. Yeah. But he will not be in the final pairing tomorrow. He is going to be playing Victor Perez at 1231 about an hour and 45 minutes before the last detail. So last one, Tristan
Starting point is 00:31:39 Lawrence, I was gonna shoot 77 today that that was pre rain. All right. Yeah, mean spirited. I'd say he was gonna shoot 77 today. That was pre-reigned. All right, that makes me feel better about a lot. Yeah. Mean-spirited. It was very mean-spirited. I just thought he was gonna evacuate. He shot 74 yesterday and looked lost after a hot start and thought it was gonna get a lot worse.
Starting point is 00:31:56 It did not. So not great predictions, not proud of him, but that's been pretty much my entire US Open at Oakmont. Well, Cody, who do you want to, let me go next. Let me go next because I will pick up the ball right there, Sali, and say that my first prediction was Tristan Lawrence shoots 75 or worse. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:32:16 And first hole, I'm like, it was kind of the Hovland thing. You know, he's got like a 15 footer for par. I'm like, oh, we're so, God, 75's not even, that's not high enough. Cash is it next hole. He's got another long part, but they cut to a cash is it I'm like, Oh, God, he had gained like three shots on the greens in the first like five holes, or something like that. Like this can't be sustainable. And then he just started hitting the shit out of the ball and
Starting point is 00:32:38 played a really, really, really nice round of golf shot even par bogey on 18 kind of coming in that kept him out of the red, but man, I I was legitimately very impressed and I will say the man in the envelope thing kind of makes you watch some of these guys a lot closer. So we might need to keep this. Yeah, I didn't have time to put this together. Maybe we can if he has a good final round tomorrow, maybe we can we can test somebody with this as well of just like a list of players that Tristan
Starting point is 00:33:04 Lawrence has been like decidedly more Competitive than in majors over the last two seasons. I know he had a great finish at the open last year like JT Spieth even pressing man can't lay Pressing like list off the names and you're gonna find like he's had better fit and boy He's not finished yet So if he has a top five,
Starting point is 00:33:25 we might have to do that tomorrow night on the show. But he, I mean, he made four birdies and is like, he's just doing a lot well. He's making a ton of putts obviously, but he's not really faking his way around. I mean, you could see where he was hitting a lot of those shots today. Like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:33:37 I don't know that he's gonna win, but I don't think he's, I don't think he's going away. I think he's gonna cash a check tomorrow, you know, but. Yeah. Cody, my second prediction, please. Sam Burns leads by two or more. We were so close. We were so close on this. Adam Scott just found it. And, you know, we didn't, we didn't, uh, weren't able to get one more coming in there. So,
Starting point is 00:34:00 but I'll take Sam Burns leads by one. That's, I feel pretty good about that. Don't give me the dub there. That's not correct. But I will. It's okay with that one. I think we start to get off the rails a little bit here. Number three. Keegan Bradley is in the top 10. Keegan Bradley is not in the top 10. He's T 21. He kind of spit the bit before birdie and 16 and 17. played a aspirational front nine nine bars. I mean, He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player.
Starting point is 00:34:30 He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a great player. He's been a in a bunched, you know, I think those leaders are kind of separated, but that that group,
Starting point is 00:34:45 there's a lot of people from plus three to plus five. I mean, there's a it's kind of like a cash giveaway tomorrow. So Keegan can can Hoover up some points tomorrow. You know, I will be rooting for that. It's not how the math works. Whatever. How the math works. What are you talking about? You would even if you have to finish like top three, even get within the top ten probably. I'm not saying he needs to qualify tomorrow. I'm saying like the major champions, double points, right? One last good, it's one and a half points and there's one last good chance after this
Starting point is 00:35:15 one. It doesn't win the open. Okay. Nevermind. You're dreaming of qualifying. It's over. You should text him. You should text him and tell him it's WD tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:35:23 It's a fucking point. Again, we just mentioned Tristan Lawrence just beating up all these little boy American players. I, I, I don't know how we flip like this, Sully. I'm, I'm captain. Did you hear kids, kids taking your, your tack, just pleading the fifth in the booth. They didn't want to fax it was like the first time. Captain, the first time all day fax was like, we should have a conversation. I think you should be on the writer cup team and and kids and fucking just like you guys faxing Start out this room of eight zero point eight seconds and just like oh
Starting point is 00:35:51 I honestly think first of all that's not true, and it's insulting and second I honestly think thinking about it for point eight seconds is better than thinking about it non-stop 15 years because that has I haven't I haven't thought about it not stop because he's the captain. He says he's not picking himself. Cody, my next prediction please. Brooks loses at least a shot on the greens. Take this one to the fuck. He did not lose one shot on the greens. He lost 3.1 shots. Jesus. I had a, I don't know. I just had a sense at first. I was like, you know what? I think Brooks is going to play really well today. Started digging in. I was like, actually, the That was the one moment on the first hole where I was like, Oh, okay. All right. We might be onto something here. Yeah. No more people pulling rabbits out of the hats. Number five. I was feeling good about, I was riding the roller coaster for a second.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Jordan Spee is going to birdie the last two holes. He birdied 17. And then he drove in the bunker on 18, had to wedge out, made like a 15 footer for par. So, uh, we will not catch that one, but it was interesting for a minute. Did you want to quickly synthesize our Jordan's speed discussion from earlier offline? There's gonna be so many bots coming at me. I would say he's like Sam Altman,
Starting point is 00:37:16 some of these AI guys, you know, these guys are like representing this brand new world. You know, there's so many new things that are possible. We can push human potential so far. And really, it's like, I think you guys are just doing your danger to yourself and others, and someone needs to just step in and maybe get this thing. The discussion occurred, I think Spieth had gotten it
Starting point is 00:37:37 to like three over total. This was right before the rain maybe, and we were like, Jordan, you need to really think about the consequences of putting yourself in contention. Like people, these are our lives when we root for you and we want you to do well. Is anybody doing any modeling on what these tools are gonna do to people's brains?
Starting point is 00:37:56 Like what's this gonna do to society if you keep making a bird in the top 10 today? And of course, you know, that he steps up and makes a triple on the 15th. Thank you. Yeah, all, you know that he steps up and makes a triple on the 15th. Yeah, all you know, it all worked out. But those are my five predictions in the envelope. Big Randy, I cannot wait to see what you came up with here. I can't either. I honestly, I forget half of them. Cody, let's roll the footage. What's my number one? What's my number one?
Starting point is 00:38:25 Oh, this is terrible. None of the top three, Spawn, Burns, or Vic, shoot under par. Kastanza there. No, I guess I got Vic. Vic came in at even. But Spawn and Burns both shot 69s. That's a disappointment. I wanted that one to be true.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Okay, number two. I don't think it's going to get any better. Spoiler. Total score of the burn spawn pairing is over 150. 138. We just missed that by 12. Fucking rain. Yeah, I didn't trust either of them at the beginning of the day.
Starting point is 00:39:01 I did not trust either of them. Randy, Oakmont is not here to embarrass the best podcasters in the world. Just here to identify them. That's right. That's right. Well said. That's right. Put put too many eggs in this basket. I love I love that swing though. I mean imagine if that
Starting point is 00:39:15 did hit. That's how to to that's how to I don't even know what's coming after this. These are supposed to be the locks. Uh number three. Nobody finishes round three. the rain. What's this? These is still, you know, not that bad. The rain was forecasted. This is not a surprise. You know, it might stay north. I was hopeful. Yeah, you win some, you lose some. You can see what kind of day I was rooting for though. It doesn't get better. No, it doesn't. No, it doesn't. I think I got a Ben Griffin playing here somewhere. Number four. Ben Griffin is your outright leader after round
Starting point is 00:40:06 three with an even par 70. We talked about his struggles coming in. I actually like that play. And I, Ben Griffin's growing on me. I'm, I'm, I'm digging the, the aviators, the old school sunglasses. I like what he's about. I was telling you guys on Slack, it was a bleak moment there for a while when I found myself saying, man, this is a slog. We need our guy Ben Griffin to do something. I was like, ooh, that's a tough place to find yourself. But yeah, I'm with you. I found myself rooting for him too.
Starting point is 00:40:36 Patience. Five, oh yeah, this one sucks. CupcaShoot69 is in Sunday's final pairing. pairing. Listen, when he three-putted the first, I am glad DJ was happy. I wasn't. That was a bad sign of things to come. Yeah. Let's see. Let's see. Let's see some people drops. Drop five takes in the comments, not the live chat in the comments on the YouTube video. Drop five. Email me if you if you think you had the best five and maybe what maybe
Starting point is 00:41:03 the merch star will be benevolent and get you a little gift from the pro shop. Maybe. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm
Starting point is 00:41:20 not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not and it was a pleasure, boys. We just couldn't make any putts, man. Couldn't make any putts. These guys, they just made more putts than us. They kept keeping it in. I'm putting them out there, and they're not getting it done for me. My job's done once I put them out there.
Starting point is 00:41:35 Oh, man. Soly, where you wanna go next? You wanna go to the proper test index or what? Yeah, I mean, we can talk a little Oatmawt. We can go through disappointments if we wanted to. We could do kind of what we could, maybe, I don't know. You, we can go through disappointments if we wanted to, we could do kind of what would we could maybe I don't know, you tell me what's the order we want to go in here. Let's do the proper test index
Starting point is 00:41:50 and then maybe we talk a little a couple disappointments after that. Okay. Randy, you know, if people missed this on yesterday show, please, please get them up to speed. I don't know why God it's just like came to me more. I'm like, how do I how do I quantify when I really love a US Open? And I truly think the best metric, like I truly may have stumbled into something here. Brody, if you wanna talk, I'm available,
Starting point is 00:42:15 but we created the proper test index, which is the ratio of scores in the 80s to scores in the 60s. And I was curious, of course, recent US opens. Thank you to everybody that's reached out. Some people have crunched the numbers for me. We have a resource bottleneck here at Randall Enterprises. But yesterday when I did it at Oakmont,
Starting point is 00:42:39 I believe we were at like 1.64, which was a fabulous number. We were getting, you know, almost- One dotting, man. One and a half, yeah, more rounds in the 80s than 60s. I was loving life. I can report after completing round three today for the week now, we have 31 rounds in the 80s,
Starting point is 00:42:58 29 in the 60s, so we are currently at 1.07. I was curious how that stacked up to prior Oakmont US opens and 2016 was a 0.35 with 51 scores in the 60s only 18 in the 80s but guys I know there's a reason 2007 Oakmont like just stands out as like this is the US open for me the PTI that year was seven and a half. There were 60 scores in the 80s and only eight in the last like 10 years, going back to Marion. Dej, I don't know who sent this over, but Marion is our leader in the PTI. It finished at 1.39. Shinnecock in 2018 was 1.22. And Oakmont today is at 1.07. That would be the third hardest, I think, going back to that Marion year. That was from listener Alex. So thank you to listener Alex. We have not vetted his math. I
Starting point is 00:44:11 think it was a very eye test going from Wikipedia page to Wikipedia page. So nobody checked that, but I think that's probably very close. And it's also, yeah, go ahead. No, sorry. I was curious about one more open because the other one, I'm sure you guys think it too, 2004 at Shinnecock was like the one I was like curious about. And the overall PTI is only 0.95. But the weekend PTI, the Saturday, Sunday was 11. You had 33 rounds in the 80s on the weekend and only three in the 60s in 2004 at Shinnecock. I think that's why I enjoyed it so much. Lost it.
Starting point is 00:44:49 Do you Hey, guys, real quick. If could you send me listener Alex's like contact information or something like that so I can send him over some he did a ton of work here and I know people don't know this but you guys will literally open any link that's sent to you. Major like phishing stuff going on. It's tough as the chief security officer of this company. I always worry about that and sorry.
Starting point is 00:45:14 I don't know what the problem is. You're going to the safety net, man. I don't have worries anymore. I got no worries. What happens if we, yeah, I feel like what happens if we do that? You know why I got no worries, Cody? Cause we got delete me.
Starting point is 00:45:24 Delete me makes it easy, quick, and safe to remove your personal data online at a time when surveillance and data breaches are common enough to make everyone vulnerable. Delete Me does all the hard work of wiping you and your family's personal information from data broker websites. Take it from me.
Starting point is 00:45:43 We recently got our reports back from delete me shocked at the findings, white page listings, personal info all over the place. I know we have an online presence and all that stuff. But privacy is still important to me and my family. You familiar people wizard.net don't know that names on there, you know, you get off more smart. There's so many so many. Yeah, thankfully, we get it off. No blame record. Smart fashion. There's so many, so many. Yeah, thankfully we've been cleared. Take control of your data and keep your private life
Starting point is 00:46:10 private by signing up for Delete Me. Now at a special discount for our listeners, you get 20% off your Delete Me plan by texting NLU to 64000. That is 64000. Text NLU to that. That is the only way to get 20% off. NLU to 64000. Message and data rates may apply.
Starting point is 00:46:34 Fantastic product. And I think we could use this time to visit maybe some of our disappointments from the day. The people that just said, delete me from this leaderboard. And I think this might be a recurring segment because that was the first thing I thought of when we first met with Delete Me. It was like, oh, this is gonna fit very, very well
Starting point is 00:46:51 with our show. Oh, I love it. Thank you to Delete Me. Soly, who's on your list? You wanna kick it off? Yeah, kept it. Got faked out by that one. Just totally, especially he was vibing.
Starting point is 00:47:02 He was walking into the grounds today. Just turned and looked at some female. I just gave a very obvious look at some of the things looking at baby. It was very funny image either way, but I thought he was vibing his face off. He was not he what did he finish at? I think four over. Yeah, he shot three over today. 7473. The last two rounds after opening was 68. Five over total still sitting there at T 21. You know, decent result considering how he's playing coming into that. But that was not a good round of golf. John Rom delete me with
Starting point is 00:47:34 this man 7573 the last two days. Hate it. Worst than field average today. The field average was just a bit over 72 today. Cannot have Rom going backwards like that on a Saturday. I know we're trying to get over this narrative of, you know, Liv is, you know, he's still playing great golf on Liv and his game hasn't dipped. Like dude, it only matters what you do in the majors. Now, you know that, I know that, we all know that. And when you delete yourself from contention, it's gonna, deserves a call out. That's a compliment to you. I mean, the worst thing we could do is ignore it. But you're too good
Starting point is 00:48:05 of a player to be sitting here at T35 in this golf tournament. Tully, can I nominate one? Please. We got done with Thursday's show and we're looking at this guy poking around the top of the leaderboard. He was next. He was next. And it's just a setup that makes so much sense. He drives it long enough. He's become one of the straightest drivers on planet Earth. He's one of the best iron players on planet Earth. Ninth in strokes gained off the tee. Sixth in strokes gained approach this week and T39 on your leaderboard Colin Moore Coward delete me. I hate that. That sucks. I wanted
Starting point is 00:48:38 him to I wanted him to be in the mix. I was looking forward to it this week, Randy. Well, he had a chance. Like even today, he was two over total on eight tee. And then, you know, four bogeys and a double over his last 11 holes. People would have got that, man. I mean, he was beyond deleted. He yeeted himself out of this picture. He is the worst in the field in putting by over three shots. He has three shots worse than Matthew Pavan who is second worst. He has lost 6.7 shots on the greens alone. Six points. He's
Starting point is 00:49:13 he's eight under eight over total. He putt neutral and he's sitting there what one over par going into the final round like uh it's it's for somebody who came out and stormed out and won a couple of majors, it's been, it's been a tough go and it's little boy adjacent. Um, sung J plus six delete me just then nothing. I mean, I forget who was getting over hyped on Sunday on Thursday, but we tried to call that out in the moment. And I'm over this guy. And I know we mentioned it, but speech triple on 15 was a true delete me moment. And then he followed it up with a bogey on 16, just for good measure.
Starting point is 00:49:50 He only shot one over today, though. He didn't fully de-yeet himself out of the entire tournament. That was a tough moment coming off some good momentum. He was too under on the day before he re-fucked that up. I think my guy, Dennyny McCarthy had his identity stolen today. You know, he was supposed to be one of the straightest drivers of the golf ball and just kind of ended up hitting it all over the yard shooting 76 today.
Starting point is 00:50:12 He was a I was feeling good about him for a top 20 and just he made me feel foolish there. Cool. That's all I've got for deletes. I like that. There were some higher numbers, but we just don't need to, you know, punch down. Kim Davis shot 82 today, Matthew Pavon shot 81. You know, I was gonna, I was gonna go back to the PTI for a
Starting point is 00:50:32 sec, because we're, I feel like 1.0. It's much like OPS, you know, I think once right, one dotting is like, that's, that's the mark of a true superstar. And I'm worried about tomorrow. I'm worried about tomorrow. We might fall under the threshold. With rain and no wind, man. These pitches are good, man. These pitches, they're optimized.
Starting point is 00:50:55 It's a juicing ball. It's a juicing ball. In a new level of equipment, equipment has changed a lot and player profiles have changed a lot since 2016. If you're not satisfied with the scoring of this US Open, you're not ever gonna be satisfied the US Open. I'm sorry, that's not directed at you, Randy, that's directed at the people that
Starting point is 00:51:14 are calling the CPC Oakmont on Thursday. I am get more upset about the rollback then and I know you're already there. So I don't need to preach that to you. We try not to litter all of our US Open shows with rollback talk but if this scoring is not good enough for you then you got to join us on the rollback thing because it's hopefully obvious at this point. Well yeah so talking about who's been over one I said 2013 Marion was 1.39, Shinnecock 2018 1.22, Oakmont's 1.05 now. And then there's a big gap. Like the next best is Olympic in 2012 was 0.60. But then it quickly gets down.
Starting point is 00:51:53 I mean, we're talking like 0.34 and below for 2016, 2014, 2017, 2015. So like the Oakmont and Shinnecock, which I know like this is all I got man. These are like my chances for what gets me going. Yeah. So I got I just want to see some freaking carnage tomorrow. Will we keep it over one? I don't think so. If more rains come let me look at a forecast. Let me. And it's better players now. Like all the qualifiers are gone.
Starting point is 00:52:26 Like I think it is going to get a little, little bit better. It's what made 2004 Shinnecock. We're talking about post cut was an 11 on the weekend, man. Inject that in my veins. You don't get that shit anymore, Solly. I know, but it's also not. Good stuff.
Starting point is 00:52:44 It's also not like what they're trying to do anymore. And I know you want it but they're just like very, very clearly not trying to do that anymore. Like they've that's we used to be a real country. You know, it's just chalk it up. Give these guys where we don't need to do all of it. You guys weren't on the show last night. But Oakmont or Pinehurst for you guys, I listened to this conversation this morning while I was running around doing some errands
Starting point is 00:53:05 and was thinking about my answers. I'm Pinehurst, I think, and that's personal, just because I have more familiarity. And I think Pinehurst has a similar, if you haven't been, I could see Pinehurst being a very similar experience to watching Oakmont on TV because it's very hard to tell those holes apart. A lot of those par fours look very similar.
Starting point is 00:53:28 And I think we're operating with the benefit of having seen them a bunch of times and played them and doing all that. But with that benefit, I would say Pinehurst. At a certain point, we got to address that it might just be NBC making these holes all look similar as well. But Randy, would you have Pinehurst or Oakmont? Listen, I don't want every us open at Oakmont. I think they're a good yin and yang. I think they balance each other well. Again, just for my money, I tend to want more of just the brute
Starting point is 00:53:58 difficulty. So I lean Oakmont as a us open test, but that's to take nothing away from Pinehurst. I thought last year's Pinehursters tournament was was a ton of fun. Yeah, I will say that forecast tomorrow, unfortunately, could be up to like a half inch of rain and it all looks like afternoon. So like the only afternoon, the only hope I'll give you there is what's all in Toronto been saying, and I think they've been very right about a lot of this is like The rain can also make this place harder off the greens
Starting point is 00:54:29 You know that rough like when it gets wet is very very very gnarly and you heard Hatton talking like you know That was like a mud ball and like some of that stuff today so hold out hold out hope consider the source there, of course, but Hold out hope not all is lost lost quite yet. I know you need this. I need this. Rainey, I thought this was a good question you posed in Slack. Just kind of what would a win for blank mean? And let's start at the top of the board and talk about Mr. Sam Burns.
Starting point is 00:55:01 He has five PGA Tour wins. He's got one major top 10 and 19 starts. This is his 20th major. So what does a major win mean for Sam Burns? What's it do for you? I mean, you it's, I was trying to think so I like the Wyndham Clark thing caught me by surprise because I think during 2023, I just kept saying like Wyndham Clark's not going to win the US Open and he did. And now I'm like, part of me with at the beginning would want to say like Sam Burns is not going to win the US open, but I think he very well can. I think it, uh, it, it elevates them to a completely different tier. It's a, he's such a weird career.
Starting point is 00:55:39 Like we don't talk about him as an elite player. His resume is somewhat similar to Max Homa, but is not nearly the fan favorite than Max Homa is. I think he has five career wins, Max has six. He's won what, two Valspars, a match play, colonial, and one more that I'm forgetting. Yeah. I don't remember, Houston or something maybe?
Starting point is 00:56:01 So he just, he goes from like- Sanderson Farms. That's right, Sanderson Farms. I honestly don't think about him come major weeks. I just don't, he goes from like Anderson farms. That's right. I honestly don't think about them come major weeks. I just don't, you know, I don't put them in fantasy lineups. I don't have ever have them in picks for top twenties. Like I just think he's more of a PGA tour player than a major championship killer. And obviously we'd have to erase all of that.
Starting point is 00:56:18 Um, on just a really, really freaking proper test. I, I don't know if it like changes how I think of him as a player. He's always been one to just be able to get smoking hot and go on offense. To do it on a setup like this though, I think would, I don't know, I'd have to think about some things. I'd have to, it would be, you know, I would not be positive this is a leap for him.
Starting point is 00:56:39 I just think he is gonna ebb and flow and we might forget about him two months from now. But it would be obviously just to put them in a completely different echelon, but kind of more in the Gary Woodland of like. Took the words out of my mouth. I know you want one. That was a good comp.
Starting point is 00:56:52 Yeah, I liked that. That didn't really change a lot for your. Not really career. Yeah, but yeah. Lifetime achievement sort of major. You know, that I think makes you remembered much more fondly, but I don't know that it's like changing my picks for Port Rush necessarily or anything like that. Well, I think to frame remembered much more fondly, but I don't know that it's like changing my picks
Starting point is 00:57:05 for Port Rush necessarily or anything like that. Well, I think to frame this whole combo too is just like, we gotta look at the run of major winners we've had for like going all the way back to Gary Woodland probably, and just recognize how ridiculous this run has been to the point where it feels like Burns was plus 7,500 before the week and that feels way off the board for a potential winner. For sure.
Starting point is 00:57:28 I do think it's interesting outside of God, my guy Sam Parks Jr. in 1935, everybody that's won a US Open, right? I'm doing this on the fly at Oakmont has won multiple majors, DJ, Angel, Ernie, Larry Nelson, Johnny Miller. So it could portend really well for Sam Burns. You know, I wouldn't count them out certainly for picking off another one. So I agree with you. Like it's, it's everything for him and his career.
Starting point is 00:58:00 Just getting, getting one major is such a big deal. I love that Woodland comp. That's kind of where I think I would categorize them in my mind. And also, I mean, the Woodland thing, this is maybe low hanging fruit, but it's like, who knows what would have happened to his career without massive, massive medical derailment that he went on, you know, after the US Open. And Randy, I would be remiss if I didn't mention your stat in the preview. Seven of those nine Oakmont winners won their first major at Oakmont.
Starting point is 00:58:29 Yeah, which obviously you look at the leaderboard, I think it's something about this place, which I think makes it interesting if you're willing to kind of go on that journey. Agree. Let's go to Adam Scott, 44-year-old Adam Scott. I pulled this stat fairly quickly. I hope this is right. I think there have been 233 major winners in history, something like that. And only 89 have won multiple. So we're talking less than 100 people in the history of the game have won multiple majors. It feels extremely fitting for Adam Scott, like we said up front.
Starting point is 00:59:09 I know we kind of talked about some of this on the on the front end, but Randy, anything else kind of to add for what this means other than kind of a career achievement? Well, I think, you know, I don't get like too enthused, but I think it's like, you know, maybe Hall of Fame or not for Adam Scott. Yeah, I certainly think, you know, 15 and two majors seems like a Hall of Fame resume. Plus the players. I think it isn't it. If you get two majors and a players and 15 wins, I think it's automatic. I think it's, I think so. Nobody cares. I think the most interesting thing, we touched on it. So I'll just repeat myself quickly is like, I think there's a case to be made without a second major. You could make a strong case that Adam Scott's career
Starting point is 00:59:50 has been disappointing in some senses compared to expectations. And I think that pretty much all goes away tomorrow if he wins it, which is, yeah, that's pretty heady. You know, DJ, I know you're a huge fan of this. We've referenced it before, but if you're somewhat new to the show, Data Golf has an awesome tool called the Data Golf Points List. So it's basically if you're a baseball fan, it's like career war.
Starting point is 01:00:15 Wins above replacement. It, you know, strokes gain average is a big, it's an average of all of your performances. Whereas we most associate the success of somebody's career with their results, kind of like an OWGR. Basically, it doles out points. If you win a major, it's worth this many points. If you win a major... Kind of the BDE rankings a little bit. It is. It's like a hard to argue with kind of thing like what you've accomplished in your career. It dates back to 1983 on the PGA Tour. There's a little bit of noise in
Starting point is 01:00:44 all this, but it doesn't include Jack and Arnie and all that. Everything that happened pre, you know, 83, but it has, they have Adam Scott as the 14th ranked player of all time since 1983. So the guys above him, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Rory McIlroy, Ernie L's, Jim Furek, Davis Love the third, Greg Norman, Sergio Garcia, Fred couples, Justin Rose Furek, Davis Love III, Greg Norman, Sergio Garcia, Fred Couples, Justin Rose, Nick Price, Justin Johnson, and Adam Scott.
Starting point is 01:01:11 538 career starts. He's won three worldwide tours, eight DP world tours, 13 regular PGA tour events, plus the 2004 players on top of one major championship. So three of those guys are one major guys? Justin Rose, Fred Couples, Sergio, Davis Love, Jim Furek are all one major guys. So he is, yeah, the fifth, sixth ranked one major guy since 1983.
Starting point is 01:01:41 That's a mouthful of a stat, but a good stat. I like that. Yeah. He's just ahead of Bernard Longer and Payne Stewart Nick Faldo Marco Mira. Things of that nature Lee Westwood Mark Alcavecchia. Well, let's move down the board tied with Adam Scott JJ spawn I feel bad. He's got an extremely short shrift on this show just by playing a fucking really good round of golf today and Absolutely hanging on I I love I'm trying to think of another example
Starting point is 01:02:12 like this is I Can't think of a good example Maybe you guys have one but there are guys that go on these these spurts like that and they're always Like stalling when you guys go and do the deep dives, you know ten years from now There's guys that just pop up at every major throughout a season like that, like Ricky, you know, finishing top five and all five major or all four majors, uh, in 2014 is kind of a bad example, but I love JJ spawn for the role he's playing this year is what I'm trying to
Starting point is 01:02:39 get at. I love that he was there at the players going toe to toe with Rory and a playoff. I love that he's, you know, in the second to with Rory in a playoff I love that he's you know in the second to last group at the US Open it's Again, I don't know if he's gonna go win five more times on the PJ tour I don't know if he's gonna win tomorrow I don't know if he's gonna win five more majors, but I love that he's he's taking incremental steps And I don't know if you guys have kind of a you know what a major would win would mean for him other than probably a lot of shade as like a fluke e major and man we were due for a dud and like some of the a lot of that
Starting point is 01:03:13 backhanded stuff that's not his fault but anything else kind of to add on what it would mean for him I think it is gonna to that will undoubtedly be how the general public views it. I guess from watching the golf this week from doing this job for now a decade plus, it is way harder for me to get to that conclusion. That's just like me wishing for a better story and a better leader board versus like dude he went out and fucking looked everybody's ass. And if I felt like Oakmont was a blender and it wasn't a good test of skill and it was putting everybody in the same buckets and bad shots weren't punished. And he was getting lucky on the greens and lucky with up and downs. I might feel differently, but I do not.
Starting point is 01:03:57 I think this is a marvelous test of golf. Said this earlier, but like it is just because some somewhat unexpected names are at the top does not mean is those guys are playing the best golf. If you've watched Scotty, if you've watched Rom, if you've watched more Akawa, you've watched these dudes like fail the tests. Like that's just, they haven't gotten unlucky. They haven't gotten put into the blender where like, good shots have gotten really bad punishments. They just
Starting point is 01:04:22 haven't hit the shots and these guys are hitting the shots. So it's really hard for me to to get worked up over a JJ spawn win. If he goes out and earns it tomorrow, dude, that is a it's fucking Oakmont, dude. This is not like, again, this is not I hate to throw shade, obviously Valhalla and quail are the easy punching bags, but this is not a bad major venue of any kind. Like this is so earned if he goes out and wins it tomorrow. I like this comment from Amal.
Starting point is 01:04:48 This is like, it'd be like Brian Harmon winning the open a couple years ago, which is just like, man, tip your cap. That guy plays such smart golf. He made a million putts. That's how I feel like watching JJ's pun. I kind of felt that way the players too. I mean, Rory came in and obviously harvested some souls in that playoff. It didn't look like JJ was quite quite up for it that morning but I think this has been very different. I don't know what
Starting point is 01:05:12 we're gonna see tomorrow if he learned anything from that or yada yada yada but man he's been playing real golf and like very smart golf. He's playing to the right spots. He's driving it really good and he looks like he's up for it. And I'm interested to see what happens tomorrow. I would enjoy, I think a JJ spawn when talk about a grinder has, has truly worked his way up to the top of the professional game. Uh, it, it, it reminds me, you know, I was standing on the, the 18th tee box at last year's NIT and I was one in on the the thinking like, man, this could be JJ Spongebob shot at a major, you know,
Starting point is 01:06:09 34 years old, like having a great year, but to be in this position, uh, what, what excitement? I, I, I hope he relishes the moment. I hope he's present. I think the player's experience should really help him. You would think, um, I'm, I'm excited to see how he plays tomorrow. I wouldn't bet on him winning, but I certainly would not be upset if he does. He's not enough of an underdog for it to be, like he's in that fatty middle of like recognizable name. He's won on tour, second in the players this year,
Starting point is 01:06:38 but he's not like off the map. This would be an incredible story if this guy won. And that's kind of the worst place to live from a fan appeal standpoint, just doing quick. So he's the 25th ranked data golf player in the world right now. Quick back of the napkin. If I'm missing somebody like I think he'd be the highest ranked data golf player to win a major since Shane Lowry was 35th when he won at Port Rush in 2019. It could be remind me if somebody else has been a higher, like a kind of a more of a surprise winner. Maybe kept a
Starting point is 01:07:08 kept up with surprise in 2023 could have been I again, I'm kind of doing this on the fly, but he it's kind of it's surprising. We haven't had somebody outside like the top 20 win a major again, I'm using data golf, not official world golf rankings for that. But I'm guessing now Koepke was was up there. It kind of reminds me again, I don't think this is apples to apples necessarily. But because I think he was higher, I think he was like 14 or 15 in the world. But almost like Danny Willett, you know, where it's like he was 12th ranked in the world.
Starting point is 01:07:37 I remember that in 2016. But didn't that was, I think, still a lot more. I don't know. A lot less people watching, watching the European tour and a lot more, I don't know, a lot less people watching, watching the European tour and a lot less, you know, casual and even like serious golf fans probably knew who he was. And, uh, but the people, you know, the ball knowers were kind of like, Oh, I mean, that guy's really, really good. That makes sense that he would win a big tournament. Keppke was 38th, um, but Keppke is an anomaly cause he doesn't play golf outside
Starting point is 01:08:02 the majors. I mean, sorry, I know it's super recent, but like Wyndham Clark, right. Doesn't it? I don't know. I guess we still have a lot of chapters to write for Wyndham Clark, but I could see them ending pretty similarly. I mean, Wyndham Clark's best result in a major outside winning the U S open is a tie for 40 or a tie for 30 third.
Starting point is 01:08:24 I think there's a pretty specific case to be made for JJ. As far as like these two golf courses that he's playing really well on to sawgrass and Oakmont are both like drive it pretty straight, hit your irons in the right spots and you're going to actually have a chance rather than just getting your doors blown off by a bunch of dudes who are driving it, you know, 50 past you and wedging it on. And so I think the, my counter to the Wyndham Clark thing was like he went on a tear after that
Starting point is 01:08:48 because he had the prerequisite. He won well, he was actually 11th or 12th in the rankings when he won because he had won, he was playing really good golf in that stretch. But that wasn't it. I mean, I think that's an interesting comp, Randy, just from the perspective of what you were saying, I'm like, this could be the shot is
Starting point is 01:09:06 It's also like look at this golf course that we're playing, you know, this is not quill hollow This is not even though I mean he played I think he finished like t8 there or something to me, but He doesn't have that many cracks at the modern-day PJ tour. I don't think I think he's pretty course dependent Which is another kind of bit of pressure tomorrow, probably. A couple other guys, Randy, I want to throw this one to you. He's got three top fives in majors, Victor Hovland guy has emerged from the wilderness. Maybe it's real. Maybe it's not. I think everybody on planet Earth would
Starting point is 01:09:43 love to see it. What what say you? Yeah, I including myself, I think this is somebody that we've had expectations for, right? He certainly shown flashes. But this this would be a true step up in class for for Victor Hoblum. And just puts him on a whole different plane. And I think it would demand that we think and talk about him in different terms. Would be an, what, an eighth tour win,
Starting point is 01:10:14 obviously a first major. I think this could really get you excited for the, you know, you could talk yourself into Victor Hovland being like one of the dudes over the next three, four, five years. I think this could be a tip of the iceberg moment for him. I think he profiles, if you put any stock in like who we've seen win at Oakmont and being a first major going on to win multiple majors, like, man, I look at Victor Hovland and he fits the profile of people who have won at at Oakmont for their first major championship with another or multiples down the road I think this would be so I mean any any win at Oakmont is awesome on the resume. I, yeah, I just think this could go so far for him.
Starting point is 01:11:08 I think Cody had a quote from him, from his presser today. Yeah, lots of funny quotes in the very much a Victor way possible, but this one here, I wonder how do you assess your position where you're at right now, and how badly do you wanna win
Starting point is 01:11:22 one of these things called a major? They go, sure, we would like to win one of these things called a major they go sure we would like To win that's what we practice so hard for but there's also like a deep Passion in me that would just wants to hit the shots like I want to stand on the tee and hit the shot that I'm envisioning Where the ball is going when the ball is not doing that it bothers me. It's a process guy Guy that's like the golf thing for me like hitting the shot That's that's really interesting actually makes me feel better about His chances tomorrow. I mean he was he was the second best player in the world two years ago
Starting point is 01:11:54 and you could make a case at a certain point he was the best player in the world and He got you know I again I can't get all KBVs reporting out of my head and I can't get his own quotes out of my head. But he looks really, he looks the part right now. And I hope this would launch him back on the right path and hopefully just like, just keep doing what you're doing, man. You don't have to reinvent yourself every single week. You are just remarkably, remarkably talented and seems like he's got a great mindset. He, but remember, I mean, if you go back to Oak Hill, you go back to 2022 Open Championship,
Starting point is 01:12:30 the Sunday thing in majors has been a problem for Vic. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but just because he hasn't been around in one for a little while doesn't mean it's not still a problem. But I know he kind of- I think Oak Hill was a little bit of a turning point, right? I think back to the old course, the old course, he was a missing person and like, did not want it. And then the next one,
Starting point is 01:12:51 I thought he looked a lot better and just kind of got outdualed by, by Brooks. And I think the Valhalla thing's weird, because that was the I missed the cut at all the other majors that year. Like, I don't think he that is probably a good comp, I guess, for, for right now, you know, that kind of almost feel like it came out of nowhere. So I don't know, that is probably a good comp. I guess for for right now, you know that kind of almost feel like it Came out of nowhere. So I don't know you're right. Like it's I don't totally know what we're gonna get It's not like he's doing this every week, you know That's kind of the thing with these majors is not only do you only get four of them?
Starting point is 01:13:17 But you're only gonna be in contention out of you know, and if you're a great player one out of every Eight, you know something something like that he did shoot 66 final round of Valhalla but that means absolutely nothing of course um he shot 74 final round the open championship in 2022 he shot 74 final round of the 2023 uh masters as well um when he was i don't know what he plays he was in but he he was in contention of that one too. So I feel like you know what I still find myself thinking of is like, I still just associate him, Colin and Matthew Wolf together, I think because of the whole like class of 2019 and obviously Wolf's kind of disappeared. But man, this would really kind of shift the dynamic between him and Colin, I think. But, you know, certainly give Vic the leg up and what have you done for me lately. Yeah, I think this would be
Starting point is 01:14:13 a great win, quite honestly, for golf. Like, as corny as that sounds, having a guy like Victor Hovland win a major, like, we need guys taking a step. step. We've talked about all the little boys and disappointments with guys not showing up at the biggest events. This would be a clear case of, cool, Victor Hovland won at Oakmont. Fuck yeah. Tim Cynova I think if you showed me the Wikipedia page, getting on a flight to go to Port Rush and you said this year's major winners were Rory completing the Grand Slam, Scotty winning the PGA, and Victor Hovland regaining form. I would be like, sign me up for that. Would watch. Well I think it's time
Starting point is 01:14:53 to probably play how far back is too far back and if I heard correctly, I think Dan Hicks said 51 of the last 55 US Open champs were in the top five going into the final round. I believe that's what he said. So consider that. I will say that the person in solo fifth we have not talked about yet is Carlos Ortiz, who shot a bogey free 67 today. I mean, bogey 18. Bogey 18 to shoot 67.
Starting point is 01:15:23 Hell of a round of golf from him. I will add a little bit of color there. I believe he's played nine majors and missed seven cuts. So I don't think he's got a ton of a ton of vibes coming into Sunday. A ton of Sunday major duels to draw on necessary. Had a really good season for what it's worth. I mean, it's been his best season from a strokes game perspective by far. He's taken quite a significant leap, uh, over on that other tour.
Starting point is 01:15:51 So let me, let me hold on. Let me, Cody, you put this good stat. I think it was on the live from, uh, the 54 hole leaders at Oakmont. Okay. So in 2007, Aaron Baddeley had a-shot lead shot 80 to finish tied for 13th 2016 Shane Lowry had a four-shot lead shot 76 to finish t2 so a Tough place to hold a 54 hole lead if Recent history proves anything that was gonna be my thing with the 51 out of. And I know everyone always thinks that they're in the outlier scenario in the present moment probably,
Starting point is 01:16:28 but I'm like, man, there's a lot of wobble at the top of that, a lot of potential wobble at the top of that board. And it's a hardest golf course. And I think that just kind of maybe possibly changes my personal how far back is too far back. If we're going to keep it unemotional and get some math involved here, if we have a similar day to tomorrow, low round today was 67. There were two of those, Adam Scott and Carlos Ortiz. So it kind of depends what you think Sam Burns, Adam Scott, JJ Spahn are going to shoot.
Starting point is 01:17:04 So it kind of depends what you think Sam Burns, Adam Scott, JJ Spahn are going to shoot. But you know, let's say somebody maybe shoots 66, four under and I've got to think one of those guys probably shoots even. Then you're kind of looking at, I mean, basically like two overs too far back. I'm waiting to see some pins. I don't know if we have pins yet. I mean we can kind of get an idea of like are they gonna set it up for a little bit of chasing? Are they gonna try to punish people? Well let me start with this. Let's do process of elimination here. Do you guys think it's gonna be one of those top, let's call it top five. Oh, hold on. I want to go the opposite way. Okay. Well, that's how we get ourselves in trouble.
Starting point is 01:17:48 They will have Scotty shoots 63. No, and that's where I'm going. Is Scotty out of it? Are you are you crossing out Scotty? Scotty is four over par right now. Let's say that he shoots 66, which would have been the best round today. That puts him at even, which means all of those guys have to shoot at least three over to get into a playoff. I think Scottie's out of it. I hate saying you can dance on my grave if you want,
Starting point is 01:18:19 but as I say it there, I'm like, I don't think all three of those guys are shooting 74. there, I'm like, I don't think all three of those guys are shooting 74. Now, I think one of them would have to go Johnny Miller. Yeah, I think that's right. Do I think Scottie's out of it? Yes. Am I gonna say Scottie's out of it? I will not. Like I almost want to I want to asterisk Scottie because I you can eliminate like two over Rasmus. Yeah. No, thank you. Uh, you can eliminate the group at three over like, but I I'm with you side. Like there's even if it's 0.01% like I, I'm not eliminating Scotty yet.
Starting point is 01:18:56 It's remarkable that he's just out of this conversation. Thanks to Michael Kim. He posted the, uh, the pinch sheet online. So here you go. Zoom in a little bit here. Okay, one is fine. Two has been in the same spot like three different times. Scottie's been it been birding to that back left pin. That's fine. Four is a little tough. Three is very tough. That is possibility for balls coming off that ridge. We're back left again on five, similar to Friday. Six, that's a somewhat gettable one there on six.
Starting point is 01:19:34 Seven seems not too difficult. Eight seems not that difficult. Nine seems very difficult. Oh, ten is so hard. That is really, really hard to get close to that right pin on that whole 11. That seems like a birdieable pin. 12 could be they never they didn't use that left tongue on 12. I could not believe they didn't use that the whole point of that was to use that one back right on 13 sets up good for a chaser. Not great if you got a lead in that one. 14 that's a gettable one. 15, that one seems, that's pretty difficult when we played that one on the media day. 16 is back right, difficult. 17 seems, it
Starting point is 01:20:12 seems like pretty chaseable, honestly. That does not seem that ridiculous. But like, Scott is the best player in the world, has not played like the best player in the world through three days. Don't think he's going to magically turn it on, but I just, I don't ever want to have that feeling of like, how the fuck did I ever discount that guy? Like I, it seems less likely to me that it'll play four bad rounds in a row. Uh, I know scores haven't been that bad. Really just round one was the bad score. He shot 71 70 the last two days. Still, if you watch it up close,
Starting point is 01:20:41 he missed a two foot, two and a half foot putt today. He missed a four and a half foot putt today. That's gonna happen at US Open's. I get it, but he still seems like he's steering it off the tee. And if he just goes and sends it and has great driving day tomorrow, he can shoot six under. I know that doesn't feel that way right now, but he absolutely can shoot six under on this golf course. So you guys think he needs to shoot six under?
Starting point is 01:21:04 I think the lead is what? I think he needs to shoot six under? Think the lead is what? I think Scottie. I think like four or go home, right? Like you get to even or. Yeah, yeah. I think he gets to even, hope for a playoff, one under, maybe a win outright. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:20 What? Maybe. What's your head and your heart saying on sam burns? What does he shoot tomorrow? But and what what's a good round for him tomorrow even? I think you would obviously take even Yeah, yeah, yeah, I just don't know how he's not exhausted not just this week last week He's in contention. Yeah, you know made every single putt when he needed to up until the playoff And then you know, we're back in the same spot again. And I understand vibes are high.
Starting point is 01:21:47 He has a quote about, you know, him and Scotty with their kids in the backyard at the rental house, running around with wangs out, just living life. But, you know, eventually you're going to get tired, man. Can I say I don't think the this is so stupid, maybe. And but like, I don't think the him staying with Scotty thing is nothing Like truly I think that is a I think that's comfy. Yeah, I think it is comfy Right, like who else would you I don't know. I don't think Scotty's just gonna be like, hey, man I don't know. Good luck. I guess we'll see what happens like they're gonna keep each other loose like like they said
Starting point is 01:22:19 I think that's I don't know. I think that's a good thing. What'd you say? He had like four I think that's a good thing. What'd you say? He had like four essentially like chip out pars today. Like I don't love that being repeatable. He's gonna have to drive it a little better. It's fascinating. I mean, we said what, Lowry shot 76, Battley shot 80.
Starting point is 01:22:40 Like I could like no shade. I could see him shooting 74 tomorrow. And I think that's the hard part. And it's not like that much of a disaster. I could see him shooting 74 tomorrow and I think that's the hard part and it's not like that much of a disaster. No, you're totally right. I think what's hard about it is like I could see any of those guys doing
Starting point is 01:22:52 that. I just don't see all of those guys doing that. True. That's that's my point with Scotty. He is such a ridiculously good putter. He has not lost shots in a tournament putting since Phoenix. Like that's a quick, like it's like 10, 11 straight tournaments where he gains on the
Starting point is 01:23:08 field. It's ridiculous. Now his iron play has also been awful this year until these last, this is until Memorial and RBC. He found something with the iron play. Can it go away? It can, but like, dude, he just, he plays really fearless golf and not at the same time not overly aggressive it just seems like he wants the ball when
Starting point is 01:23:30 he does get hot he's not consistent but the dude does get hot and I'd be surprised if he had a really bad day tomorrow I he's the favorite by far we can get to some some odds here let's do that now I think let's look at the odds what we he is the favorite, like you mentioned. This is of course courtesy of our friends at the FanDuel Sportsbook. Odd subject to change. I can't stress that enough. Of course. And they have changed since we started the show. They have. He is Sam Burns is plus 170. Next up Adam Scott plus 300. JJ Spahn also 300 is plus 350.
Starting point is 01:24:05 We've got Victor Hovland at plus 650. Well, he is what? Starting the day three back, going off to six and a half to one, that's intriguing. And then Carlos Ortiz plus 2000, Tyrell Hatton plus 2200. If you guys, let's see it, man. How much you believe in this, Scotty?
Starting point is 01:24:21 I'm not gonna rule them out. 55 to one, you get them at right now. Plus fifty five hundred a little sprinkle. I don't know ready Interesting. Yeah, I'm like it weird You know what I might do is Rasmus near guard Peterson at plus one ten thousand like he couldn't go shoot 66 and have everybody fall back. He's only at, at plus two. I don't know. Pre-tron coded right there. I guess that hobbling is the most interesting. Maybe it sticks fit. Like let me ask you guys this out of the top four,
Starting point is 01:24:58 who do you trust the least tomorrow? That's a, that's a really good question. God, weirdly, I hate that I'm saying this. Adam Scott. I think it's Hovland. Yeah. You trust the least? Yeah. I mean, just cuz we. I I trust him the most and the least. Exactly. Exactly how I feel. Yeah. I kind of, yeah, I know exactly what you're saying. Like last five holes, if he, if they're all tied, I'll be like, Oh no, we're we're we've done it. But 18 holes. I'm like, I don't know, man. Anything could happen. Who knows? Like I would run back your prediction today. Was it you saw it said it'll make a triple like this is bad to say but I of these names, I just don't know if JJ spawn like has what he needs. That's where I was going. Man, you shoot a 66 in the first round.
Starting point is 01:25:51 I don't, God, it's just a long week. I don't think he's long week. I was thinking about this earlier too. Like JJ has gone 66, 72, 69, and like, has not played his, his quote unquote bad stretch yet. I don't think I mean you mentioned that was Sam Burns So I like playing those last five and six over Whatever he did. I mean Victor's had some some bad golf in there. Adam Scott hasn't really played a bad stretch either I guess if you're keeping that same logic round one was a little bit of a roller coaster, but
Starting point is 01:26:23 Yeah, no, I don't know you could be right it could be just exhaustion for JJ spawn but I'm I don't know I'm just impressed it what he's doing feels pretty boring and sustainable I guess I I I didn't know where I was gonna go when we started the segment I I'm going spawn at plus 350 I think spawn gets it done tomorrow. Yeah. I mean, that might be the high noon's talking at this point. But it's been a long, long man, driving accuracy thing just, it just kind of seems like I don't have the stats in front of me. He has to have close to if not the least amount of bogeys
Starting point is 01:26:57 in the field. He has made eight total bogeys so far through 54 holes at the US Open. And again, I know his putting has been really, really good, but that just doesn't seem that fluky. He just is not putting himself in really tough spots. It's not hard to make par from the fairway on this golf course and he keeps doing it. And I think he gets it done tomorrow.
Starting point is 01:27:19 I think Spahn's gonna win. I can tell you that he does have the fewest bogeys in the field with eight Sam Burns has the next few has only made nine Sam Burns you want to bring Vic Perez and Adam Scott have all only made nine I do want to bring one name up that we haven't mentioned yet in the show Sully of course, I think I can't remember if it was Thursday evening or Friday evening was just bashing him said yeah He's out of here. Don't even think twice about it. We talking about sustainable and you said you agreed talks a lot about what Scotty needs this person starting one stroke better than him.
Starting point is 01:27:54 Uh, we know he's probably going to shoot 59 next week and either the first or second round of the travelers, but why can't that be tomorrow for Cameron young? Cody, your guy is your guys doing it. You tell us Cody, your guy is your guys doing it. You tell us Cody. What do you think? He's fifth in strokes game putting this week. Would you have taken that? That's unbelievable.
Starting point is 01:28:13 And today he couldn't make a putt particularly well today. Yeah, but his ball striking was back today. You know, he looked really really good and just couldn't get him to fall. I'll do the whole show tomorrow. Unironically in the pews hat. If Cameron Young comes in and comes back, he just, uh, this doesn't, he's not a killer.
Starting point is 01:28:31 I'm, I'm sorry to say it. It's a night. I, I, I'm very excited. He's playing good golf again, and I hope this gets sustained. I know the Ryder cup team could use him, but, uh, that would be quite a shock. I do want to throw in on Fandel. There's a, a profit boost token available for every round. If you want to just dabble a little bit on any of these plays,
Starting point is 01:28:49 Cameron Young plus 12,000 as well, if you want to throw that out there. But that's available. That's been available for every round so far on the Fandl Sportsbook. Cody, I thought you were going to say Hatten. Have we mentioned him? I signed up for that show.
Starting point is 01:29:02 We haven't. But yeah, please get in contention. I mean, if Hatton goes out and shoots 60, I'm not saying I think it's going to happen, but shit, we probably disrespected him to this point. It's five back. I mean, I'm sure it's disrespectful. I don't think he's going to win, but he's very good. Not off the math that we were going off earlier. I mean, all he asked, yeah, he shoot another 68 and be right there so I can I throw you some value here this courtesy of our friends at the FanDuel Sportsbook in the head
Starting point is 01:29:33 to head two balls JJ spawn versus Victor Hovland spawn is plus 120 mm 18 holes heads up value Adam Scott and Sam Burns are both minus 115 going up against each other who you guys like in that one can I before we do any more predictions guys I've never felt less confident in any of the calls for tomorrow like truly let me find a coin I'll give you a flip and I'll tell you yeah I think I'm pushing my lot in on Vic I want to feel something tomorrow I like it I yeah I think you that that will happen in on Vic. I want to feel something tomorrow. I like it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:06 I think that will happen. Win, lose, or draw. You're gonna... Exactly. I think it's gonna be explosive either way. Very excited for tomorrow. I think, what were those odds on Burns and Scott? Minus 115 each. Or sorry, in the head-to-head or in the...
Starting point is 01:30:21 In the head-to-head, sorry. Adam Scott versus Sam Burns, just round four score is both minus 115 JJ spawn versus Victor Hovland spawn is plus 120 Hovland is minus 165 Your guy Carlos Ortiz solid getting massively Disrespected in his matchup against Tyrell Hatton. Hatton minus 175 Ortiz plus 130 potential value there. God, how how frisky you guys feel it on this hole anything can happen. Nick Taylor versus Scottie Scheffler tomorrow Scottie minus 400 in a head to head match. Nick Taylor plus 270.
Starting point is 01:31:04 I think Sky's gonna win. I head match. Nick Taylor plus 270. I think this guy's gonna win. I would also take Nick Taylor at plus 270. 18 holes of golf. It's 18 holes of golf, man. These guys are the best in the world. That's wild. I was trying to see if there's any other big outliers, but I think that's about it.
Starting point is 01:31:17 Aaron Rye versus Trevor Cohn. Rainey, that's some sick, sick behavior there. Yeah. Betting on that one. Minus 250, Aaron Rye, heavy favorite over Trevor. Don't call me David Cohn. that's a sick, sick behavior there. Yeah. Betting on that one. Minus 250. Aaron Rye, heavy favorite over Trevor.
Starting point is 01:31:32 Don't call me David Cohn. He was, he was up there sniffing at a point today. He was. He was. Guys, I think I might take a little nibble of Haddon. I, like, why can't Haddon shoot sixty-nine tomorrow and just find himself maybe in a
Starting point is 01:31:46 playoff? Because we're good people and we don't deserve that Randy. We don't deserve that to happen That would be my least favorite result in golf. I've had in one I've been over that dude for so long. Yeah Speaking of being over dudes TC has reported on the X the everything out that Wyndham Clark has damaged not one but two lockers in the locker room I Think it I think when I might need to step away from the game for a little bit get things under control Yeah, that's just just like
Starting point is 01:32:16 Cannot be acting this way That's not good. I Believe TC was celebrating that Roy blew up a Ter and I don't know if he's... So that was a massive positive I believe. Okay. That he said on the show last night. Might be selective application of some of this stuff, but listen, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say either of these are playing the game the right way, guys.
Starting point is 01:32:38 Yeah, I agree. Speaking of Rory, anything you want to say? Oh, speaking of Rory. Just Rory did meet with the media today, had some, I would call peculiar quotes. A lot of, you know, I've, my problem is more with you guys meeting the media. I'll read it quickly in the record. It was about a five minute interview, some golf stuff, and then it was, hey, you're so transparent for us and very available. Yesterday was six major
Starting point is 01:33:05 rounds in a row. You stepped away. Has that been part and parcel to the frustration on the golf course? What do you attribute to? Roy said, no, not really. It's more of frustration with you guys. Question in what way? I'm just, yeah, I don't know. I have been totally available for the last few years. And I'm not saying maybe not you guys, but maybe just the whole thing. Question. Did it stem from the whole driver thing? Or yeah, part of it. I mean, that was a part of it. Uh, but it's not as it like at Augusta, I skipped you guys on Thursday. So yeah, again, it's not as if it's not out of the ordinary. I've
Starting point is 01:33:37 done it before. I'm just doing it a little more often. Um, question, is it part of the, you know, you kind of carry the tour in your words for three, four years? Do you feel like you've earned the right Rory? I feel like I've earned the right to do whatever I want to do. Yeah. Uh, last question in relation to that almost addressed, uh, the fact that tour does not require that kind of thing. It's almost like you're daring them to do it in some way.
Starting point is 01:33:58 Is that something, you know, in terms of a requirement of the players? Like, no, I'm not daring them to do anything. I hope they don't change it because it's a nice luxury to have, but I'm just pointing out the fact that we have the ability to do it. Massive, massive cool man to this one. I mean, and what do you say about tomorrow? Didn't he have some like hope he plays in four and a half hours and get out there as quickly as possible? Yeah. Uh, I think he said that one a little tongue in cheek if you watched the video. But I'm with you, Sally.
Starting point is 01:34:28 I'm kind of firmly in the cool man camp right now. It seems like, I don't know, it seems like he's just seeking out, kind of playing the heel. And it's a weird fit, I guess. It doesn't feel like it comes totally naturally. I think that's why we all like him a lot. So, I don't know, weird quotes. And what I don't want to really fall into is just the like, we're like, what's wrong?
Starting point is 01:34:51 Tell us, what did we do? What's what's, why are you mad? Like, I'm just much more in the like, all right, cool, man. Like what, whatever. I truly don't know what golf media has done to have to deserve this. If it's about the driver thing, the PGA, be upset about whoever leaked it to the media. It's not the media's job to like
Starting point is 01:35:11 not report something that gets leaked to them. It's a ridiculous application of that scenario. And he says, yeah, I've earned the right to do whatever I want to do. Not one person is questioning your right to act like an asshole. Like everybody has the right to act whatever I want to do. Not one person is questioning your right to act like an asshole. Like everybody has the right to act like an asshole. We also have the right to call you an asshole for doing it. Like I just, you are in the, in honor of what happened on Sunday, the U S open in 2016, uh, in the NBA, Roy's blowing a three, one lead with the fans. Like all he had to do was just continue doing what he's doing. He was one of the most popular players and I don't know what he's fighting. I don't know what we're
Starting point is 01:35:49 doing here and he's truly blowing it and it just is extremely unlikable and I can't explain succinctly why he's doing this. Yeah I think the only other thing to add is like I know I think the only other thing to add is like, I know we have also said a couple times, like talk less, you share, you know, you're you're you're talking too much about, and that's much more about like the tour and the deals and what should happen, what shouldn't happen. And I don't know if that's just clicking in like way later than it needed to, or if something else is sparking this, but it's just kind of a, yeah,
Starting point is 01:36:22 it's just, it's a cool man. I keep coming back to the same like well it's not just from the PGA championship I mean it goes back further than that yeah when he was getting kind of this way last fall even the end of last summer yeah I don't know I don't know it seems like and he'll turn isn't like I don't think that's a very good descriptive of it because now he's like playing the victim Which is even worse like what are you talking about man? Like yeah, I know the media rides for you more than anyone else Truly Truly yeah
Starting point is 01:37:06 I don't know if we could have given you more of a benefit of the doubt over everything for the last several years. I feel like he earned it. I feel like he earned it. Like he was worth right about everything. And the reason why I was a big fan and supporter of the things he said, and I've said this before, it was like, I felt like he honestly had the game's best interest at hand and the fan's best interest at hand. And now he's, he's middle fingering fans more than the media. Like the whole thing is, I have done this every night this week, but like this is your link to fans. This is you speaking to fans.
Starting point is 01:37:29 And man, it just, I think if I had to guess, he's like so bitter about like Bryson being a fan favorite at the US Open last year after Bryson just being an absolute chode for a decade. And Rory seemingly do all the right things and he just like, it's fine, just like fuck it. I don't know, I honestly can't explain it. This is one of the silliest things I've ever had to cover. Yeah. Well, he will not be in the mix tomorrow.
Starting point is 01:37:57 So let's talk about the guys who will be. Final thing here before we close it out. Randy, who's your pick to win? Victor Hovland Sally I Said JJ spawn in a heat of a moment No, I'm not gonna pull a TC here I miss TC tonight. He picked Tommy to win and he would have
Starting point is 01:38:27 spent the whole night tonight celebrating uh all of the uh all of the correct calls that he's somewhat had this week. I know I said Sam Burns was gonna **** the bed and that didn't happen but if you look at what he did on eighteen. Yeah. You just can't hit it in that spot. You got lucky that he too but it I am gonna take. It's hard. It's really hard. It's so hard. I'm the hardest Saturday night I've remember having. I'm between Sam Burns and Adam Scott and I'm gonna take Sam Burns. I I think it's been a while for Adam
Starting point is 01:39:02 Scott and that it's gonna be hard not to not to grip the bat a little too tight, but I don't I haven't fucked maybe we get a Mikkelsen thing tomorrow. I don't know. I'm gonna take Sam Burns. Sam Burns, my final pick. Cody, who are you taking? Off the top, Vic Hovland. I can't wait. I hope him and his boys just saddle up again this fall and take that 24 hour road trip back up the Lofoten with you know the the trophy in the back seat just vibing their
Starting point is 01:39:31 faces off. Come on. He's all filled up on Ohio like you know. Oh, I know the off course stuff. God, I hope he's riding the incline tonight having the time of his life. Deep on UFOs, new document releases. Probably watched the parade earlier on replay.
Starting point is 01:39:46 Uh, I'm trying to find this, the, the, the Sam Burns tracker that's been in Neil's ass all week. Uh, I'm sure they had some updates, uh, today as well. That's been quite entertaining. That has been a fun, the last one I saw was, uh, see the Schuster brothers tomorrow. Well guys, anything else on the way out here? This is a fun one. There's a lot more to talk
