Be the right club. Be the right club today.
That's better than most. How about the end? That is better than most. Better anything different.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome into the NoLayingUpGolf podcast.
My name is Randy.
I am joined by Mr. Cody McBride.
We are live on site here at Royal Porth Call for the AIG Women's Open.
It is Saturday night.
What a tournament it's been, Cody.
Kept off by an awesome moving day.
Today we're going to get into all the action.
We're going to run down the leaderboard.
We're going to talk about Royal Porth Call as a venue.
I think we both love it.
Spoiler alert.
We're going to discuss some notable names
that have fallen outside of contention.
What else are we going to do?
We got a lot of fun stuff, but Cody, my first question,
what has you most excited as we head into the final round
of the final major of 2025?
Like actually most excited or do you want me to make a joke?
Well, yeah, you pick.
I mean, it's the golf course, right? I think we mentioned that on the Happy Hour show that we did.
We obviously got to see that on Tuesday and then, you know, we've walked it the last three days and
I think it's changed over time, but it's a
proper links test.
Oh my God, is it proper?
I love it.
If you are punished when you're out of position, if you don't play the proper shots, you're
immediately punched back down.
And then if you don't put yourself back into play and you try to be aggressive, it's a
true risk reward.
And I love it.
And you saw that today.
I was very lucky to play, you know, I was calling radio with the final group
and the highs and lows of that round were, were crazy.
Truly unbelievable.
Yeah.
The, this golf course is shining.
You know, we, again, we said early in the week, our perceptions of it were colored
by that senior
open a few years ago where the weather was absolutely shitty.
Which would be sick if that happened.
Tomorrow, there is a chance of rain, maybe wind, I'm praying, but we're seeing it in
all its glory.
I dare say too, it even got a little brown looking late in the day today.
I mean, the sun was out.
It really is spectacular.
Yeah, it's such a beautiful golf course, beautiful property.
And you know, the wind is up, we had sun out. It's sweet. I
think you mentioned tomorrow, you're going to do weather a
little bit later, but we're going to have some more
conditions. And when the wind comes up here, there are parts
of this golf course that you get completely punished on. Now, we had a little bit of weather on Thursday.
If that's kind of the same for tomorrow, I can't even imagine where we're going to finish that at.
And I know a lot of people were freaking out when they woke up today and saw somebody starting the day at 11 under par
for a golf course that when they hosted the seniors, they finished it like 5 over was the winner.
I still think that the winner of this tournament is going to be eight under par.
I think that's a good call.
Yeah.
I, uh, listen, they've, they've taken some yardage off of the
setup each of the three days.
I don't anticipate them stretching it out tomorrow.
I think they, they have the tournament they want.
It's, it's truly anybody's.
And I'll just go into it.
That's what I'm most excited for.
You mentioned we started the day.
Okay, before I say your name,
are we gonna go with Miu Yamashita or Miu Yamashita?
Well, if TC was here, he'd want us to call her Mamacita.
I know.
And I only- We can't do that.
I'm only saying that because the Americanized pronunciation is Yamashita. We were told in Japan they
pronounce it Yamashita. It's got my head spinning. Randy they told us they told
me this five minutes before I went out to call the group. Also real Takeda is I
guess Takeda is not how you pronounce it. No, Takata.
Takata.
Takata.
For somebody who's already...
Mr. Pooj has been telling me that.
I'm already nervous about being on BBC and Sirius XM and everything else and thinking
through numbers and like, you know, for people that are watching on YouTube, my clipboard
here is just full of notes.
That's how you kind of get through the round.
And then they sprinkle on the fact that, that hey you got to say pronounce their names
Differently right before I was like, oh my goodness a big ass. What a blender. It's a big ass
So you might hear us say it both ways
she started the day three shots clear of Rio Takada and
Yeah, the next talk it up. Thank you the next closest we're at four under. So it was very spread out.
What we have now is a tight compact leaderboard.
And yeah, I'm so excited between the golf course,
the possible conditions and truly never knowing
what can happen out on a proper Lynx golf course.
Sunday is going to be fantastic.
We're going to get to the leaderboard.
Cody, I want to thank of course course, our friends from Titleist.
They support everything we do from the Chevron to the US Women's Open, to the
KPMG Women's PGA, the Evian, this week at the AIG Women's Open, and every week on
the LPGA and across the worldwide professional tours, Titleist is there.
Titleist is the overwhelming number one ball of the world's best.
A total of 99 players teed up a Pro V1 or Pro V1 X golf ball this week at Royal
Porth Call as they took on a setup that demanded control and precision through the wind.
You'll notice names like A-Lim Kim, Lottie Wode, Megan Kang, Georgia Hall up on the
leaderboard. A-Lim Kim plays a Pro V1, as does Lottie Wode, as does Megan Keng.
Georgia Hall's in a Pro V1X, that's the same that I play.
I believe you're a Pro V1 guy, is that correct?
X, baby.
You're an X, hey, we're X brothers.
Yeah.
The best players in the world, they're dialed into every part of their bag and that of course
includes their golf ball.
In comparing the Pro V1 and Pro V1X, the Pro V1 is going to give you that mid trajectory flight, low long game spin and maximum
short game spin with a softer feel off the club face. On the other hand the Pro
V1X is going to fly higher, spin more in the long game and offer a firmer feel.
The Pro V1X left dash is going to fly high similar to the Pro V1X but with
dramatically lower full swing
Spin and an even firmer feel
That's making your head spin head to title is
Com to start the fitting process and find out which golf ball is right for your game
We thank them very much. All right, Cody, let's dive down the leaderboard our leader at the 54 hole mark
She was our leader at the 36 hole mark,
that is Japan's Miyu Yamashita. She sits at 9 under after rounds of 68, 65 of bogey free 65,
and a 74 today. You followed her. What are the big takeaways? Well, I think 17 jumps out right away.
Oh my God. But before we get to 17 and the theatrics that were there, she lost her driver.
It was kind of concerning watching.
She was missing it both on the left and right side, trying to steer it all over the place.
Very similar to how I played this golf course on Tuesday, to be honest, but she's the professional.
I definitely am not.
17 was amazing to be there and witness that
even cooler to call it live on the radio of like oh, she's like making a mess out of this again and
Like if you believe in in spirits or voodoo or anything like everybody on this property was putting a jinx on her
Yeah, and the fact that she pulled that putt from nowhere and made it, I was like, oh my goodness,
I thought we were looking at a double bogey here.
I know, I know.
And when you say like putting a jigs on her,
we just want a competition, right?
We don't want a runaway leader.
She had bogeyed, I think, 14 and 16 prior to getting to 17.
She sculled her bunker shot over the green,
what was it, like 40, 45 feet?
Yeah.
Uh, cash.
It was so impressive.
I just want to say she hit so many three woods into par fours today.
And just like, I was trying to wrap my head around what, what it would take,
what the reaction of the player would be.
If you on the men's side had a person leading either the open or any major
championship that was hitting three woods into par force over and over again,
it's, it's stunning.
And I was talking to our friend, Ian Carter from the BBC,
and we were both just saying like,
that's how this golf course is meant to be played, right? She's hitting those shots back into the
wind. Yes, they are par fours, but really you can think of them as par fives and then, you know,
nine, 13, 18 are downwind par fives that really you could think about as par fours. I just think
it's awesome. And I know we're going to get into the golf course more, but it's like watching the shots that
this course with this wind has always for decades and decades called for. Like that's
what we're seeing on display this week.
Yeah, absolutely. And through two rounds, me who played this golf course perfectly,
I mean, bogey free rounds made tons of birdies here.
And for people who don't know who she is, she's a rookie on the LPGA Tour.
So I don't blame you for if that name doesn't jump out or you recognize it at all.
She's 23 years old from Japan.
Turn pro.
Birthday today.
Turn 24 today.
A great call.
Turn pro in 2020.
She has 13 wins on the JLPGA and no wins on the LPGA Tour this year.
Rookie, but she's second in the rookie race too. Rio Takada. That's right. Who she went out with
and played today. I will just say, sorry, Mio Yamashita, she's four foot, what, 10, four foot,
11? Yeah, but I think it's like your height it flexes like it flexes around depending on her
You're talking to but she's tiny tiny tiny and doesn't doesn't hit the golf ball anywhere
No, hence the three woods and right. Yeah, but it surprisingly is that if you look at her strokes gain total
This is for the year not so much for this week
And of course, thanks to KPMG for the performance insights on the LPGA tour.
She's like middle of the pack on driving men tee to green.
Even though she's small and she doesn't hit it very far, she's not punished.
She is absolutely a killer when it comes to everything else.
She's 12th overall in strokes gaining total and where she makes her absolute bread is
putting.
Now the issue today was a lot of putts.
She struggled with her pace, her leg putting was a concern
and then by the time we got to the back nine,
it was missing three and four footers, which she never does.
Yeah, which, you know, going back to what we originally
said made that putt on 17 from like 40 feet off the green,
that much more impressive. She's to be in the final group Sunday. She's
looking for her first LPGA win. She's looking for her first major championship. I don't think she's going away. I think
today was probably the quote unquote bad day. First day playing in the elements. We should note like there was a, I
think about a two shot difference in the waves Thursday and Friday with the late early group having the advantage. Mew was part of
that. She'll be in the final group with Aalim Kim. Aalim Kim 2020 US women's open winner. She shot
of bogey free rounds 67 today. I got to watch a lot of her round just super steady. Like hits is a great ball striker.
Honestly could have been a few shots lower
with some made putts.
I didn't want to say this on the radio
because I don't know how people would take it.
But yesterday morning when we were walking in
you were looking at the leaderboard and you're like,
oh man, you turned to me and you're like,
I think we have an A-limb problem.
And you're right, like she-
One of the few calls I get right.
Be bald out today.
You make enough for her to get one.
Bogie free and the conditions that we had this afternoon
and I understand a lot of these people
that are in the top 10, top 15 right now,
rocketed up the leaderboard from playing so early
when there was like zero wind.
Yeah, yeah.
So yeah, that's your final group tomorrow.
Miu and A-lim Kim, gonna be good.
They go off at local time, what is it?
2.20 back in the States.
That's gonna be 10.20 a.m. Eastern time.
So make sure you're in front of the television
as they get going, but get there earlier.
Join us on radio, have a cup of coffee.
Somebody that you've been high on and I want to give the credit right back to you in third
place solo third Andrea Lee.
Dude, she is, she's just, so hand in the air.
I just think in windy, like, I don't know why my perception of Andrea is like, she's
super short and just like not a good ball striker.
I think she's a much better ball striker than I've ever given her
credit for. Her wedges are phenomenal and I feel like more so like she can be a
very streaky player. Yeah she does I mean when she starts making birdies
she makes them in buckets very much like TC right? I mean how many times
can you make five straight birdies more often was one of his goals this year she's so awesome though you
know she's not known for being the longest hitter but she absolutely
flushes her irons and she has a really good short game the issue a lot of the
time it comes through of course if people are watching on YouTube this is
gonna be coming we have motion-sensored lights on in this cave that we work in
for radio usually it's not a
concern except for when we're in here and nobody else is moving around on the outside. But Andrea,
yeah, I think it makes complete sense. I don't know why I played with her. I played with her
a couple times now. And I played the most recent time. I remember sitting there and thinking like,
wow, she has everything going for her. And then if you look at a result so far this year, she's put herself in position.
She was a stud, junior and collegiate player and it's taken her a long time to really find
her footing as a professional outside of the lone win. But she's put herself on Solheim
Cup team. She put herself in major contention. She's just never really made it till the end.
And I'm very interested to see how tomorrow goes because she has this
look in her eye, this, this confidence, but also like.
Comfortability of being in the position to be like, yeah, like what's there to lose.
Yeah.
I don't think the moment's going to be too big for her by any means.
Now, whether she wins or not, we'll, we'll see.
But yeah, somebody definitely keep an eye on, uh, would be like you said, a
first time major winner would kind of keep that crazy streak going.
All right.
Uh, Rio Takada, she started the day at eight under she was playing alongside
Miu Yamashita and she struggled. She shot a 74.
I don't know how much time we want to spend on her. I don't she's certainly not out of this
tournament right? She's three shots back. What were the big takeaways from her though?
She played a lot better golf than Miyu did. I'll tell you that for them to finish with the exact
same score it's kind of shocking but you know she only birdies that she had was at the eighth to get around going.
And that's because I don't think she hit a green up until that point, but absolutely
flagged it there.
I thought it was going to go in for a little bit from the vantage point that we were at.
But you know, just couldn't really get it going.
And she started battling and pressing as we were going down the back nine and, and really just did her best, not really to compound mistakes,
bogeyed at 16, 17. She hit a horrible second shot from like the middle of the fairway.
She ended up in that pop bunker. That's like 30 yards short, hit an awesome bunker shot
there and then hold that putt. And then we, that was, sorry, that was an awesome bunker shot there and then hold that putt and then that was sorry that was an awesome
bunker shot that was like really good 40 yard had to like kind of i i assume she maybe took like a
50 degree or something like that and it's the second time that she had uh she did that on nine
too when she was in the pot bunker further back and like literally took like a pitching wedge or
maybe like a gap wedge because of the distance that they had to carry it and then get it to release you know you can't
just pop it straight up and roll with both of those shots being into the wind
so that was phenomenal and then just really disappointing you know she was in
the center of the fairway on 18 absolutely cream to drive at 190 yards
in and leaves with a five like makes par. Yeah. I know I'm shocked it just
Don't know. I think of 18 is like that's really got to be a birdie hole
But the amount of like kind of sloppy pars. Yes, we saw today
Yeah
Also tied for fourth. I think this is a major story Charlie Hall
Vintage Charlie today.
I mean, hearkens back to what the 2023 US open at Pebble beach, where she was
like chasing down Alison Corpus in the final round, obviously came up short in
the end, um, Charlie had a 66 today.
And at one point she was seven on, she started the day at even par at one point was seven under through 13 holes bogeyed I believe 14 and then
parred in man it's so much fun when she's chasing I said this on the radio
like truly when Charlie's on it and like stalking a lead I think it's about the
most exciting from a viewing standpoint that we have across any golf at the
moment. Yeah definitely here too. I don't I hope that came through on TV but who knows with TV
you never really know. But here especially like you know we're in Wales but every single person
here knows who Charlie Hall is. Yeah and every single person like, oh my goodness, like Charlie's doing it. Like she's all going out and biggest galleries loud.
Yeah.
Like she is, she's the star.
Yeah.
Turned at 31, five under there, picked up birdies on 12 and 13.
Like Randy said, bogeyed fifth or 14.
Excuse me.
What'd she do on 18?
Kind of like sloppy par like missed a, you know, missed the green chipped up, had like, I don't know, five foot birdie putt, just
slid it by.
I just, yeah, I'm like, that's gotta be a four.
That's gotta be a four.
But it was crazy.
I mean, for people that will listen to us on radio, today was a British invasion.
Yeah.
I mean, Charlie.
I mean, at one point you had Charlie.
Georgia. Bronte was showing her face. I haven't seen Bronte's name in a British invasion. Yeah, Charlie. I mean at one point you had charge of Bronte was showing her face
I mean the Bronte's name and for sure and at the whole time everybody's just like well
What's what what happened to look a lot of yesterday? Yeah, you know the one British person
Everybody was talking about Tuesday and Wednesday
And a lot of Mimi Rhodes was another name that was for sure for sure rightfully so too
I mean of the year so far outside of lotty and everything that's gone on in their last month like
we don't give enough kudos to Mimi she's a rookie on the L.E.T. just graduated
college last year and is bawling out three wins already on the ladies
European tour yeah all in a row they were who I think and like had a little
bit of a dip there she came over over, you know, to play a
couple majors in the States, then played good at the US Women's Open, didn't play good at the KPMG,
PGA, Frisco, and then came back and is like right up there again.
Yeah. Gosh. Again, if Charlie is on her game tomorrow, it's going to be appointment viewing.
I'm so excited. So excited to watch her. The latter, no excuse me, two more women in that tied
for fourth group at six under. We have Japan's Minami Katsu. I don't know a lot
about her. I'm gonna be 100% honest. Great day today. She shot a 65 which I think
was the low round and that was with two early bogeys. So I believe she played her last 15 holes and nine under par, which was crazy.
Um, I can say, you know, prolific winner on the Japan LPGA tour has not won on
the LPGA as one top 10 at a major that was 20, 24 at the Chevron.
It's not, you know, no shade at her. Like to me this would be as
a fan, as I, you know, as I call things like this would be kind of the worst
case winner. I mean somebody's got to hold that title. I think it's her.
We'll see. The last woman at T4, this is a fun one, Megan Kang. She's actually
going out with Charlie Hall.
I think that's going to be maybe the best group to watch,
especially if they get going.
I feel like they're just going to feed off each other. Megan shot a 68 today.
She has rounds of 72, 70, 68.
So she is trending in a great direction.
She missed like a super short par putt, maybe two feet, two and a half feet at number one.
Put that behind her. I think, you know, you know who's the biggest Megan
Kang fan I know is TC. For sure. And well outside of the Grutter golf girls.
That's true. That's true. And like, I don't know why. Well, I do know why. Her form hasn't been
that good this year. Not good at all. But just in theory, this golf course is like, I feel like Taylor made for
Megan in hindsight, right?
Of course it's easier to say that as she's up near the top of the leaderboard.
But if you were like drawing up a golf course where Megan Kang should compete,
I feel like it is Royal Porth Call.
Yeah.
She loves super tough conditions.
That's why for a long time, like, US Women's Open, oh man,
Megan Kang's gonna ball out here because she loves it.
Loves it when it gets super hard
and when everybody else seems to check out,
like, that's when she seems to rise.
She's the American Leona McGuire.
Not only, like, you know, is like the Solheim
Yeah, great voice.
single killer, like not super long.
Yeah, sorry, I cut you off there,
but I had that thought today.
No, you're spot on there.
Who else you wanna shout out here, big?
Well, let's just round out the top 10.
You have Georgia Hall, we mentioned her.
You have Taiwan's Wei Ling-Sue is at four under.
She's also tied for eight.
And then the final one, Chiara Tamburlini.
She's Swiss, and I think just as like some brief background
People might not know that name, you know, I don't blame you. I'm not overly familiar with her 25 year old Swiss player
She played collegially at Ole Miss
but I'm supposed to
Bunky and I only mentioned her because she's like Mimi Rhodes, like she's had a lot of success on the LET.
She was the 2024 LET, both the rookie of the year and the player of the year.
She won the order of merit.
She won three times.
And earlier this year, she finished tied for 14th at Aaron Hills at the US Women's Open.
So I think somebody that's like kind of progressing and putting herself more and more in these types of spots.
So we'll see what she does tomorrow.
I will just mention the top 20, but I do want to drill down leading the group at minus three,
they're tied for 11, is Lottie Wote.
And she was the pre-tournament favorite.
We were talking about like, God, she has to be so exhausted.
I'm honestly pretty impressed with the performance she's put up. Her round two,
she had a terrible lie on, what was it, number 16, made triple bogey. She took a pass at
the ball. The ball literally didn't go anywhere. Then she had to take an unplayable. Anyway,
it was a mess. But she rebounded today. Just couldn't make any putts. But I'm not counting
her out of this. I think she's know, she's gonna go try to get it tomorrow.
Lottie was three under with the triple bogey.
If you, from my memories of yesterday,
that triple bogey, I'm like, oh,
Lottie shot like 75 or something like that.
She shot 70.
I know.
She's still finished.
And like, she was two under for the round.
Same thing today, she shot a 71.
I'm like, had you asked me before looking back at what she
shoot like 74, well, like one good, one, a good day.
Yeah.
I don't think she shot a professional round and granted what this is seven
rounds now, but she's yet to shoot one over par.
It's, it's really good.
Also in that group, we've talked to Mimi Rhodes.
She's tied for 11, three under Steph Kiriakou, Australia.
Another person that seems to kind of like some tough conditions.
She pops up in these types of events.
She had an ace on Tuesday or excuse me, Tuesday on Thursday.
You almost had the ace on Tuesday.
That's where you're getting check out the RNA channel.
They have video of it.
I would direct people there.
It's one of the best link shots you're ever going to see.
I want to shout out, you know, because I'm on this side of the camera right now too.
I'm going to shout out one of the commenters here, Simon.
He said Lottie's two unplayables away from being proper contention, which is very true.
And I think she's still in contention.
Yeah.
Like she could go out and shoot a 67 tomorrow and you like, you never know.
A 67, a 64.
She's free.
I know. And if it blows and yeah a 64, she's free. I know.
And if it blows and yeah,
she's in this golf tournament.
Rounding out that T11 group at three under,
Choi Joo Kim, who we not only played with Tuesday,
we saw her last night at dinner.
She's just a delightful person.
She's awesome.
It doesn't think we're stalking her,
so we got that going for us.
You have Aria Jutanigarn, you mouse, Saigo, and you have Jenny Shin.
Jenny Shin is just no worthy because she's like, she was pretty far outside of
the cut line at one point on Thursday and has battled her ass off and sits
just outside of the top 10.
It's really impressive.
I mean, she saw it 77 on Thursday.
And what'd she have like a 41 on one? Yeah. Yeah. Like literally was
I'm done with this. This is not going anywhere. Yeah. Now sits here three under
par T11 like talking about somebody who's grinding. She can go crazy low too.
Yeah. The crazy thing about it is that last year Biggie she was in the same
position at St. Andrews
paired with Nelly in the final round which was what like the second to last
group yeah yeah the issue I think she's learned a ton since then too and like
not only about how you you keep yourself in contention and how you compose
yourself when things aren't going your way but I think really she's learned to
how to
bounce back and like that's been so true this year because she has really good
finishes and and for somebody who's been on tour for a long time she's another
person that like can go out and make a ton of birdies no bogeys on her scorecard
today 35 32 turn you know turned in that 67 early on and just shot up 40-some places on the scoreboard.
Yeah, yeah. Round it out, there's a sizable group at T18 just to round out the top 20. This is 2
under par. It's led by Minji Lee. Minji had a disappointing Friday round two. She did not make
a birdie. I believe she shot what 76 came back today with a four under 68
A couple other notable names in that group. She saw toe EY one of the EY twins
Esther Henslite the white twins also a dinner. I also also staying at the hotel. Yeah, Cody and I are staying at this hotel where I've never had this before where you walk in on on ground level you check in right like you do at every hotel and you know they tell you
all you're on the first floor second floor third floor they told us we were on the negative
one floor and we both were like huh Randy put us in the basement it's musty down there
you finally did get a fan thank you last year that you're in charge of accommodation next
year I'm in charge of accommodations.
Fair. Deal.
There's no airflow.
No, there isn't.
Esther Henslite, somebody that I think, you know,
God, when she learns to putt,
she's gonna be like a serious, serious threat.
Well, she learned to putt last year in Paris,
picked up the silver medal.
Yeah.
All right, Cody, so that all leads to, of course,
one of our favorite questions. Drum
roll, please. How far back is too far back?
Man, I thought you were going to ask me my favorite question is how do I get my money
right? Because I want to thank our friends at SoFi, the all-in-one finance app for sponsoring
today's episode. Did you know that the average golfer spends about $2,500 every year on golf,
according to a recent study by Stitch Golf. That's a lot to spend
on the game. Personally, I know that my money... And we hope they're spending some of that in the

All right, I am gonna ask you how far back is too far back.
Maybe a good time to say, I believe the purse this week,
I know the folks at AIG and the RNA love when people mention this I believe
it's like 9.6 million. 7.5. 9.75 up just a little bit so some of these ladies have
a chance to to get their money right. How far back is too far back? What are we
looking at? So Miu is at nine under. I'll say this I think she I
Think she can come back
Why I already claimed that the winner is gonna be at eight under so let me go
I'm eight under is a good target though for anybody like kind of starting, you know, like Lottie Wode, right?
That'd be a 67. I'll go all the way to the group at two wonder. I'm good with them
I'm gonna draw my line at the one under group and I hate saying that because we haven't mentioned her name yet
But Lauren had an awesome day. Oh my god. She's battled her ass off. Uh
Man, I think one under is too far back. I
Definitely agree with that
God if it weren't for Minji Lee sitting there, I think at two under,
I, I would chop two under.
Really?
Yeah.
Can I just carve out Minji specifically?
I do like your eight under call.
Uh, we should mention the weather.
They are calling for midday wrong likelihood of rain.
Well, that was part of my equation is that this group that's at 200, they're
going to, I mean, they're off an hour and a half before, like they're going to get
more golf in without crazy conditions.
Just like we saw today.
I know.
We, the weather changes all the time here.
When I was looking earlier, it almost looked like the worst weather was between like 10 AM and 3 PM local time. And then it kind of calms the rest
of the evening. So that was why I was thinking like this 200, 300 group could
kind of get boned and the later you are almost the better you are. So I'm going
to say two, two, except for Minji. You're gonna give me a carve out
Okay from you got Minji, but I'm gonna go with you as well because you've been in the studio
I haven't looked at whether tomorrow you told me just been running all my you told me other bad weather tomorrow
I was like, oh cool. So it's gonna be like today, you know, and the wind picks up in the afternoon
You didn't tell me it's midday. I know well make sure you pack your rain stuff
Send you out there without an umbrella. Yeah. Good luck. Um, all right. Where do we want? Oh, quick,
a couple odds and ends here. Smith's salver is the low am, uh,
metal that we had three AMS make the cut.
Who won that thing last year?
Lottie woven. Yeah. Stamford's Paula Martine San Pedro is currently at even par. She had a great
round today. Anwah champion Carla Burnett is at plus three and then Pepperdine's
Jennifer Wong is the third AM. She's at plus seven. Jennifer Wong is here because
she won the Asian Pacific Women's Amp.
Now Paula Martin San Pedro, an absolute stud, who's won like everything this year.
It's somebody who every time like we say something around Jordan,
she's just like, oh my god, you don't realize how good she is.
She kind of feels like the next Stanford product.
You know, you had like Andrea to Rose, you know, it could, it feels like
Paula could be next.
Yeah.
A hundred percent.
Um, what are their odds and ends?
Cody, this is truly, I think, amazing.
Yanni Sang made the cut.
Like you talk to her.
That's the headline.
We got to interview her today.
I, it truly, I, I've talked to some folks.
I'm like, it has to be a full podcast episode.
So Yanni, if you don't know, uh, she was the last defending champion here.
She won in 2010 and 2011.
No, the last champion to go back to back.
That's right.
Defending.
Yeah.
I always mix that up.
I think she was number one in the world
for 109 straight weeks, which is the second longest run ever.
She's the youngest person in golf, male or female,
to win five major championships.
Like the highest of highs in her game,
and then completely, completely lost her game.
She said today, you know, it started with some like hip issues
She ended up having two different hip surgeries and then just for good measure
she got like the worst yips in her right hand and
Totally fell off a cliff to the point where she hasn't made a cut in LPGA tour events
She's not a full-time player, but she plays tournaments. She hasn't made a cut on the LPGA since
2018 she hadn't made the cut on the LPGA since 2018.
She hadn't made the cut at the British open since 2017.
She, she plays like let challenge to her events now.
So to fix her Yip, she ended up just going completely left-handed.
Well, that's where she ended up at.
Yeah.
She tried a ton of different.
Yeah.
Um, so anyway, it's just for her to make the cut, like this is, like, she honestly like had the look
of somebody that had like won this tournament
by making the cut, which was really cool.
I, earlier today when we were calling some,
some pre, you know, final group golf,
I was out on the eighth hole and Yanni was coming in
and absolutely flagged it there.
Eighth is an awesome little par three. Yeah,
back pin today. It's a beautiful shot goes up there and I'm like, oh, I finally get to see the
left handed putting you don't miss the putt but I was like, okay, so she made par and she comes
and stands to the back and I'm there with Richard Kaufman. He's my partner. And her caddy comes over
and says, Oh, hi, Richard. Oh, yeah. How are you? How are you doing? Oh, hi Cody. You know, how are you doing? I say,
I'm great. He goes, I'm doing fantastic. It's the first time in years. I've been able to
wear my weekend clothes. Just keeping them holding out the hope, holding out the hope.
Remind me of Keegan. It is his, you know, suitcase. I, I'm really going to try my best.
We need to get her on for a full pocket.
And she's funny as hell too.
Like she's got great sense of humor and she's willing to just talk
about all the low points.
So anyway, won't belabor that.
You mentioned Lauren Coughlin, our two young hitters, one young hitter,
Emeritus, Elsie battled her ass off.
She opened with a 75 Thursday.
She has worked back to one under par total. That's good
for tied for 25th. Her Friday round was like in some of the heaviest wind. Really impressive.
Madeline Saxstrom, unfortunately, I thought she was going to have a big weekend. She started round
three at three under. I think that was tied for six. Struggle today. She shot a 76. She's plus one T 42. Um, we haven't mentioned Lydia Co Nelly Korda or Gino Titicone yet.
That's because they're not in contention.
Anyone you want to drill down on there?
Where do you want to start with that triumvirate?
Yeah, I mean, probably like pretty disappointing for Lydia.
I would say I know she always turns up and even though she hasn't had the best form coming into this year, you know, she this tournament means a lot to her.
Not only because she's defending, but she loves this type of golf. She likes being creative. It fits her. We don't need to drive the ball a million miles.
And, you know, you can be creative with your short game shots. She just hasn't been crazy sharp.
She would yeah 73 73 70 today for Lydia. Nellie Korda we'll see what she does Sunday. Man
what's up with Nellie?
It's disappointing she's going in the wrong direction. She started out with a 70. She shot pretty just ho hum 72 Friday 74 today.
She's tied for 36th at even par alongside Lydia 74 and she played in the morning.
When Friday when it was like you got to go get it. Yeah. When you can go
everything and play in the morning today. Sorry. Yeah. When the wind was down
first thing, I mean, that has to be frustrating.
You see all these people that are just like,
500 through nine, 600 through 13,
and Nellie's like, struggling to get anything in the hole.
Yeah.
Her ball striking has not been good
to her standards, especially.
So like, I think that's a bit more of an anomaly,
but Cody, like the, like.
I know, it's a putting. of an anomaly, but Cody, like the, like, I know it's a putting, okay.
She's she's shown more, right?
So I get that.
Like we see a ton of miss Nellie quarter putts.
Uh, if you look at the KPMG insights, like it paints a much rosier
picture of her putter, but I will just say.
Like I test wise, there's some about those like four to eight foot putts that it's not,
like it's just not good enough.
And more than that, like she just doesn't look, I was, again, I was talking to Ian Carter
and it's like this vicious cycle in my opinion of she's not confident.
And so she's, she's not really hitting those putts firmly.
And so she's, she's not really hitting those putts firmly.
And so she's, she's oftentimes missing low.
And I just think like, she's got to somehow convince herself to be more aggressive, especially on like link screens where I think the green
speeds this week are running at a 10.
Like, yeah, you might miss and have a four foot.
It's like, until you're confident from four feet, you're not going to be
confident hitting putts with pace. And I just think that's like until you're confident from four feet, you're not going to be confident hitting
putts with pace.
And I just think that's like the doom loop that she's stuck in right now.
Yeah.
And I know she's bouncing all around.
It is interesting when you look at her putting stroke, you know, she's changing putters from
a normal blade back to a mallet and she'll continue, you know, the next tournament we
see her and she'll probably be back in the blade. But the neck always stays the same. And she has a
crazy amount of toe flow, opening and shutting like that's how what her putting gait is.
And I think she's searching for this unicorn without actually like sitting down with somebody
and getting fit for it, because her stroke and the putters
that she's choosing don't necessarily match.
Well, and it's the weirdest thing.
I've never seen her really like physically.
I've never seen hitches or like she's not twitchy.
No, like it looks like a okay enough stroke.
It's just yeah, like the ball just doesn't go in.
It's, it's crazy.
I, I don't know.
It's, it's a very frustrating year for her and this week just adds to it.
You know, she's obviously not going to win a major this year.
She hasn't won.
We'll see.
She's, she's got some season left to kind of turn things around, but not a good
week, world number two, Gino Titican.
She is one under total tied for 25th.
I just don't think Gino and Lynx golf really mesh right now.
You know, there was a story going around early in the week that I think she had
told the Callaway team years ago that like, Oh, I'm not going to win a British,
uh, excuse me, an AIG women's open.
Because I, you know, I just don't know Lynx golf.
And I don't know if that's going to be true, but I think it's, it is like, you
can just tell, I don't think she's like completely comfortable with some of the
shots required.
Do you know what also doesn't help when you claim that like, Oh, I don't know
how to play Lynx golf that you don't go play more Lynx golf.
Like she's just going to skip the Scottish every year.
Eventually she's going to have to play in it because of, you know, the
commitment, what is it every three, four years or five years or something like
that, whatever the rule is, but you know, if you have an identified problem of.
One of five tournaments a year, you know, maybe I would look into that a little
bit more, but it's been interesting.
Really?
We, she hasn't played, she hasn't played such a Evian and the last time we saw her at Evian was like probably complete heartbreak
And I understand that she always is like so positive with Evian
Yeah, so positive and everything and like grace Kim just like went and took all the cookies out of the cookie jar like I get
That part yeah, like that was her tournament that she was gonna win
Yeah, and she was gonna ride that into this tournament and who knows what happens
But I know the the route that she's going and how she's preparing for this cuz you even see her
Some of the shots that she's that she's playing like into the wind
It's not like she's even attempting to change her trajectory. No, she's just like clubs up two clubs and then tries to like bash it
You know, yeah, well, that's not gonna work. Yeah, I know
She's young. What is she still 21? Maybe just turned 22 like she
Hopefully she comes around on it
Some notable miss cuts quickly while we're here. We had a Camilo. We had to make a full Camilo this week
Japan's Airy Okuyama was a co first round leader at 500 and she missed
the cut. That's always fun. You had Roning Yin at plus seven. That's a disappointing
score. Lily Vu, it stinks, but like not surprising. She missed the cut at seven over. Maya Stark
plus eight. I feel like she's she's in the world. She's got to figure something out. Yeah, caddy change this week
I don't know if I don't even know if I said that on Wednesday
But yeah the Jeff Brighton who was on her her beg so far this year and you know received a lot of the praise
Going into the well, I guess not going into you
But after the US women's open and she gave him tons of credit to helping her get through all four rounds
Specifically that file final round at Aaron Hills, you know, he's gone
Don't exactly know what's going on
But I hope you know
I think the next tournament that she's gonna play in is a Canadian open and we'll see what shows up there because she's not
That far off by any means like she started her opening round really good.
Yeah. And then it's just like, you know, the game just kind of disappeared. Well, and Erin Hill shows
us like it can flip in an instant. So yeah, hopefully she gets whatever she needs figured out,
figured out. Uh, you leave me no miss the cut. Hannah green miss cut. You can Sasso miss the cut.
Rose Zhang missed the cut. Ingrid Lindblad, I hate noting
this, she missed the cut.
Probably the toughest of scenes, this happened on Friday, she was what, two under, three
under, bogeyed the par five ninth, parred the tenth, went to the eleventh in this tournament
and made a ten on the par four eleventh.
I guess that's only noteworthy because there was there were no penalty strokes involved in that 10
You don't see that very often a double-digit number without penalties shots. I think by the time I was
Unfortunately in the group behind calling the golf so it took her a long time to get through that hole
So we're all standing there waiting and watching and you see the emotions after
the sixth stroke start to pour out.
It was of concern.
And then when I got closer and realized how bad of a time she was actually having
and there were tears involved, I was like, oh shit, this is, this is not good.
Yeah.
Uncomfortable.
Not fun.
But I'll tell her like I
Thought I would be completely in my head like fuck this shit. She battled her ass off, you know
Would she birdie 12? Yeah, like incredible bounce back
It just kept it moving and then you know, we see her out here today out hitting balls and you know
It's grinding on the rain great spirits and like joking about I was like, you know what? Hell yeah. Yeah. Um, we'll just quick plug for the AIG women's
open radio. We're going to be on there all day tomorrow. If you haven't joined us there,
please do. We're having a ton of fun. This whole crew is amazing. I think we'll, we'll
save our thanks and our heartfelt messages for Sunday's pod
But you can find us either on the app the AIG women's open app. You can go to AIG women's open comm
There's a there's a radio link there
We're of course going to be recording tomorrow at the conclusion of play. So please join us back here, Cody
I think the last thing we have to do
Fandual let's check some odds heading into
tomorrow and then I want to get some official predictions on the record. So currently, I'll
just run down these and you give me some thoughts on what you'd like. Of course, folks, odd subject Our leader, Miu Yamashita, she is plus 140.
A-lim Kim is plus 400.
Andrea Lee plus 650.
Charlie Hall plus 1000.
Sure.
Megan Kang plus 1200.
Rio Takada plus 1200.
Do you like anybody further?
I guess I should say Lottie Wode plus 4,000.
That's good value there.
I think a big jump from Lottie plus 4,000 to Georgia Hall plus 8,000, rightfully so.
Yeah.
I listen, I think the value plays in there are Andrea Lee plus 650.
And I think I'm trying to will it into existence, but Charlie Hall at plus a
thousand. Yeah, for sure.
Any other plays or no, nothing really stands out to me yet.
The numbers get deep pretty quick. Yeah. They have some other markets.
They have top five, top 10. They have some winner without, um, so I think they need to, this was at the start of the
week because it's Nelly, Minji, Lottie and Gino.
I think you're not really getting much value there.
Um, I'm just looking quickly at the top 10 markets.
Where does it flip to plus odds area?
Jatana gardenss plus 140.
This is one I like.
I'm gonna come back to our buddy, Kyoju Kim, plus 140 to top 10.
She shot a 68 today.
She's so solid.
That is not advice, but I like that number.
I love that.
Well, let's wrap it with our official prediction.
I should say, of course, odd subject to change.
I said that.
Thank you to FanDuel for those odds.
Check them out.
FanDuel.com.
Uh, Cody, you want to go first or you want me to go first?
Yeah, I'll go.
I think, uh, I was riding high on her at the beginning of this week.
Um, it obviously wasn't my pick for Nelly to win
and Lottie to not be in contention.
I have no doubt.
No, no, but I'll vouch for you.
We've been talking who we like literally
since we arrived here in Wales.
Yeah, and that time, I don't know why,
but for some reason it's Andrea Lee.
And starting the day two back,
I think she's finally in a great head space.
She's hitting the ball so good, putting amazingly, you know,
she's not in that final group.
She has the ability to go out and chase.
And I love it.
I love where she's at.
I really suspect you may be proven right,
but I like to make picks that like I want to root for and not that I don't want to root for Andrea.
I just, I want to see Charlie Hall. I want to see Charlie Hall do it.
I think everybody that will be here wants to see Charlie do it as well.
What an incredible story that would be for people who don't remember. She had to withdraw
out of the first round of the Evian because she was literally passing out on T-Box.
She collapsed. I think twice.
Knowing for somebody who's super fit and cares about her fitness and is running and lifting
and everything all the time, it's been driving her insane because she hasn't been able to work out
for the last four weeks, which is the opposite of you and your strain challenge, by the time. It's been driving her insane because she hasn't been able to work out for like the last four weeks, which is the opposite of you and your
strain challenge, by the way. Thank you. Should we go? We got, well, how much time
do we have? You're good at that. Uh, I think, listen, the last time we saw
Charlie, well, it was a bit different at Walden Heath, right? She was in the final
group with Lillia. She did not play that well. We did see her, you know, pebble.
She came roaring.
She just, Alison Corpus just played too well.
Ah, I'm picking Charlie.
I want it to happen.
It would be such a scene.
I think Charlie winning an open championship, like she, she needs to, like
she, she needs to do that in her
career and why not tomorrow?
Yeah.
Why not tomorrow?
I agree big.
All right.
Well, with that folks, it has been a long three days, but truly like these are the
most rewarding, fulfilling fun days that we have.
It is eight 30 local time here.
Cody and I, we got to go get some food. So there's a
team dinner. The radio people are having a team dinner tonight. We're intentionally, we're just
trying to give you everything you need, nothing you don't. Let's go get some chow. Yeah. And again,
like greatly appreciated all the kind words and messages and everything about us being on radio. It's such a
Fantastic team that we get to work with we say this all the time
It's our favorite week of the year because we get to do stuff that makes us a little bit uncomfortable
But like for sure is the best way to possibly watch professional golf. It's like the ultimate cheat code
I feel like we found but thanks to
Tabby and Ollie and the entire team and we'll give them major
shout outs again tomorrow. But yeah, I'm excited to see what
the final round is. I'm going to be out calling the golf.
You're going to be, you're going to have literally the best
seat in the house. I'm going to have the second best seat in
the literal house hanging out with Marcus. You know, it's it.
I love these people truly. They're very passionate about golf,
but you know, this major championship here and it just is awesome. So people want to
wake up, tune in, of course, check us out on the radio. You can get on the website. You
can get it on an email, send an email. What's their email radio at a g women's open.com.
But yeah, they love the emails. We'll be back tomorrow evening.
Couple comments in here. I am monitoring something else. Okay. Oh boy. My guy cam young currently
has a seven stroke lead. Seven going into the final round. And do you need to get a red eye home? No,
no, no, we're not that. All right. All right right. I'll say this like if we played how far back is too far back
I have some concerns. Okay, I'm not gonna lie, but I hope we you know, I hope it's time
He's so damn good. Let's know he's like not the most entertaining people will like
and this is such a weird thing to say but like he's an awesome dude if you get to know him and
Which you've had a unique opportunity
I know that's not going to come out you through any video or anything people try to push of it, but like
He deserves to win. I'm excited to see him. Hopefully bring it home
Well, we will talk windham a bit on tomorrow's show. Obviously we'll we'll lead with uh with the women's open
But hey, here's to a charlie cam
Double tomorrow.
I think, I think that would be fabulous for golf or Andrea or Andrea. Yeah. Yeah. I don't
want Andrea. Yeah. Uh, just no Manami Katsu. And that's nothing personal. You might be
staying at our hotel. Uh, it just, in my opinion, wouldn't be the best winner. So with that,
thank you folks for watching following on youtube
Thank you for whenever you're listening to this and we will see everybody tomorrow. Cheers
