how about him
that is better than most
better than most
ladies and gentlemen
welcome back to the no laying a podcast
my name is DJ fresh on the heels
of a delightful day
one at the players championship
where we got a bunched leaderboard guys
we got some good stuff to talk about
to help me do it we've got the
Carter brothers the Schuster brothers whatever you prefer
TC, the elder, Tron, how are you?
I'm good. I'm drying out a little bit. We had that midday rain.
But overall, I'm good. And I'm excited for an awesome weekend of golf ahead of us.
Hell yeah. We've got it in front of us. Neal, how are you, my man?
Ah, fantastic. Dej, it snowed for about three hours today. Didn't stick, but it did snow.
But we were nice and cozy watching golf all day. Kind of love seeing some of these guys wearing some
rain gear. Maybe they were dealing with Florida cold.
You know,
it's all good, it's all good. It's always tough.
Me being in Wisconsin, you being in New Jersey.
You know, like I always get the day, the weather one day
before you. And the other day, you're like, oh, man, it's so nice
out, sunshine. And we've talked like, you haven't turned the quarter. I'm sorry.
But, well, yeah, I'm glad you got to enjoy the snow that we got
yesterday. So, guys, before we get into it, we are, of course, brought
to you today by our friends at Butjoy, number one,
in golf and the number one shoe at the players championship.
That's relevant because it's player championship week, guys.
Big day today.
Not only do we kick off the players, but we've got footjoy launching the all new
premier series.
T.C.
You're one of the foremost premier appreciators, I think, in the world of
premier mind in the game.
Yeah, it's like me and yeah, it's like P and JT, I think.
Yeah.
Adam Scott, Will Zala Torres, many, many, many, many.
He's got a bunch of JT's shoes.
You know, he's, he's just been a premier appreciator for years.
Exactly.
Oh, and actually, I picked up, uh, it was
confirmed to me that I'm my swing
is actually faster when I wear premieres
versus hyperflexes or
pro cells. And you can't argue with the data.
You and Soliore out of TVI
doing some testing with some footwear.
But Footjoy aspired
to make the best even better, often imitated
but never duplicated.
Premier is the benchmark for modern classic
footwear inspired by designs of the past,
but supercharged for today's game with all
sorts of golf specific
innovation. The new premiere
keeps a familiar silhouette but features
is an entirely new outsole that is lighter but provides about 30% more traction.
Shout out to TC's increased club head speed there he's just talking about.
Also a ton of comfort built it, including around the collar and even a new tongue design,
which sounds strange to talk about probably until you slide it on and feel it mold to the top of your foot.
So to see the new styles to learn more, check out the all new premiere series at footjoy.com.
Guys, I mentioned off the top, we got a bunched, bunched leaderboard at the players'
Championship Maverick McNeely, Lee Hodges Boulevard, Sep Straka, Sa'it de Gala, and now Austin Smotherman just made another birdie to join all of those guys at five under.
They are being chased by J.T. Russ Henley, Taylor Moore and Cameron Young.
T.C., you're out there, man. Where do you want to start today on this, this player's championship Thursday?
Yeah, it was. It was kind of a tale of two days.
Our guy, Sue Darshang, yellow mirage, you just hit one in the water on 17.
I hate that.
Hate that.
Which I think is kind of that.
That was the first tale of the day was,
there was some bite out there this morning.
It was some fresh winds,
some,
you know,
like the course was playing like we thought it was going to play.
Like we hoped it was going to play.
We've been hoping for the last five or six years how it was,
how we wished it would play.
And it did.
And then a front rolled in.
We got some weather.
Weather kind of stuck around for longer than anticipated.
just kind of some some some um some drizzle that just kind of kept lingering and now it's gorgeous out
we're supposed to get some wind and it's supposed to be dry tonight so we may see kind of a wave
you know some of the wave stuff equalize uh because it's supposed to be windy tomorrow morning
and then calm down in the afternoon uh but it's some really good golf played especially this morning
I felt I was really really impressed with with the golf that I watched this morning from a variety
of guys. I mean,
deed, you were saying it earlier, the
skill index,
I don't really know what that is.
The skill index sounded like it was
an unprecedented territory today.
It was off the charts.
Solly's going to hop in here in a second.
He can probably explain it better than I can,
but basically DataGolf has a,
what are we predicting to happen and what's actually
going to happen? And usually in a dream scenario
or in most scenarios, that's pretty
close to one to one, right?
Like the skills they think are going to be rewarded
are rewarded and therefore
this kind of matches up with
with how they think it's going to go
and today basically like
that that means it's a one basically as it goes
you know to how they're going to predict
today was like a 2.4 meaning that
like the best players were
separating and again Sally can probably give a better
explanation but it was it was math
to prove that the best players are
balling out essentially at a
at a high level and
so you could also use the eye test for that
just to see the top of the lead of the
That you could also do, but the numbers and the math do back it up.
But before we get there, so it's always, like I said,
it's always going to hop in.
We can get a lot more on the ground stuff and birdies and bogeys.
What actually happened?
I got to say from just golf perspective,
maybe the story of the day happened very, very early this morning,
just so we don't breeze past it, Colin Morikawa,
WDs after playing one hole of golf.
Neal,
worst thing that's ever happened in the world.
RIP to you and all the DFS.
people out there.
Save that apology for
Sali.
Twelve of his teams are out now.
12 of his 24.
So he's,
bracket buster.
It was a dragon buster.
It was tough.
You watched the replay.
It's just like a pretty light practice swing.
I mean,
but it's a media.
I mean,
he's just,
I can't go,
man.
I just,
we're not doing well here.
He's locked up,
Dej.
For those that missed it,
he played the 10th hole,
uh,
started on 10,
made a par,
got to 11T.
Like you said,
just kind of a rehearsal sort of,
uh,
practice swing and just,
just you can see it on his face.
You can see it in his body language.
Just immediately like, that's it.
I know exactly what that feeling is.
Yeah, cut me.
I'm out.
It was quoted after the round saying, I felt fine and warm up.
Nothing's been any signs of back problems.
And I teed up on 11, took one practice swing.
I just knew it was gone.
Like, I just had the feeling before when it's happened.
And I just can't swing through it.
Trust me, I would play if I could.
It's just the worst thing in the world.
Yeah, just a bummer.
I guess this was a good discussion topic.
I don't know if T.C.
You threw this in here, but does Randy need to apologize?
No, I threw that in there.
Oh, you threw that in there.
Yeah, not even just calling.
I mean, we got some dissension amongst the strap boys.
Foxy is other pick of someone that could win had kidney stone.
He's out.
I mean, it's just brutal.
I mean, I don't think Randy needs to apologize for Foxy, like being laid up in the hospital
with kidney stones.
So that's a pretty tough thing.
Randy might need to apologize for picking these players.
I mean, it's unbelievable.
I've never seen it.
like that they should wheel foxy into the into the global home or into the clubhouse like the
on that on that balcony on the balcony yeah like the lane care of the uh the he frees yeah uh yeah i don't
think i've ever seen that we're we're big rain i mean listen he's not in mid season four but he's just
getting he's out of rehab on a rehab start this week you know and he comes in and he picked he puts
his name on two guys and both end up in the hospital here basically i mean it's just that normally
happens to the beluga. So, you know, that's
yeah, God, I've never taken
flak on Foxy already because
Sally was all like, you know, he's not a course
fit, he's not a proper player, all that.
We'll never know. We'll never know. I will say
this, Colin, I
have no experience with, I
think he struggled with back spasms last year
or the year before. I don't know if
this was a back spasm. It sounds like it's something
that's flared up again. I don't ever
want to know what back spasms are all about, but I trust
him when he says like, man, I can't go.
I got no, like, no problem with
shutting it down. It sucks that an alternate couldn't get in, but it just sounds like a,
a white squall situation for Colin. That sucks. I got just the guy to bring in if we're going
to talk some back spasms. Never now. He's shaking his head. He's not quite ready yet. I'm not,
I don't want to speak about him. Just lathering himself and he's having some spasms. Yeah, he just doesn't
want to talk about it, I guess. All right. Well, Sal, you just come in whenever you're ready.
Can I say, Dej, Dej, something about just the leaderboard? Please. I, I mean, it's a really,
really interesting leaderboard without the two thoroughbreds, right?
Rory and Scotty just kind of didn't show up today.
We can talk about that a little bit later in the show,
but there's just like a bunch of guys,
Maverick McNeely, a win here, just elevates his career.
I don't know if it's dude status, but it's like, whoa, man, he's arrived, right?
Lee Hodges, not sure about that one, but Sepp Straca, same thing, Sahith, same thing.
Smotherman's been making noise.
Justin Thomas could be one of those two-time players winners.
Russ Henley becomes a dude with a win here.
He might be demanding dude status.
He might be kicking the door down.
Yeah, Cam Young and Tony Fienow and Ludwig right down the board.
Comey's up in there.
Yeah, keep going.
Victor Hovlin.
Zander, I don't want to steal the down the leaderboard stuff,
but it feels like that that midfield of guys that we want to rise
and start to challenge Scotty and Rory to a certain extent are all in the mix this week.
And I really like that.
Yeah, I totally agree.
I think the
variety of different
styles of play, too, is
you got, I mean, that's the beauty of TPC sawgrass
and that's fully, fully on display
with that leaderboard as well. You've got bombers,
you got you got big tone that's got
20 in the tank that he's not even using out there.
Looking like he's got a bowl of 300.
Yeah, what a fit today. That was a fake.
Nick had a great fit. Speaking of great fits, we'll get there.
But yeah, I thought the, I mean, even like the stuff this morning, especially right before the rain delay, I was standing on 3T.
And we were with Scotty, J.T. and Tommy.
And Tommy hits one, like just absolutely flights one.
And the wind was really, really picking up straight out of the west.
And then J.T. gets up and you could tell.
He's like, holy shit.
Like they're going to have to blow the horn here within like 45 seconds.
I'm not hitting the shot.
Sure enough, they blew the horn and they started pouring.
about 20 seconds later. But there was some definite like timing rub of the green kind of stuff
earlier. I thought we could have seen one of those Keith Mitchell horn blasts, you know, in the
back swing. All time moment. Yeah. Yeah, it was a it was a full kind of novel out there today.
A lot of chapters, you know, of the day. Like you said, T.C., I was, uh, I woke up and, you know,
to Sally's question that he asked in the preview, like, what's the first thing you're going to check out
kind of Thursday morning, which it happened to be
Max holding out. I thought
my app was glitching out. Max holds out
on number 10 for
an eagle leads to maybe
the weirdest, coolest round of the day.
But other than that, it was like, yeah,
the conditions are kind of what we
were promised. I was like bending over backwards,
trying to come up with something other than
just strokes gain, strokes gain, strokes gain,
which I know can kind of glaze people over.
And I was listening on
live from this morning, or
Golf Central or whatever it was this morning,
Paige McKenzie was talking about just scrambling rate and like scrambling percentage.
She basically was like if you look at all of the previous years, you know, the scrambling
percentage is like very, very steady. It's usually, you know, 60% or so. These guys get up and down.
It was this morning when the conditions were like that, it was down around like 50, 51. And it just is like,
I'm like, dude, there's a stat that's like missing greens fucking matters. Right. Like there is a
penalty for missing greens. And then you could just see it as, and you know, that's a small sample
size, but it's like, you can just see it as the day goes on. It creeps up a little more. It's 51.
It's 52. And now it's kind of up around like 53 and a half or something like that. But it was,
that was just like one indicator that I'm like, okay, this is we're actually seeing what I think we're
we're seeing here, which you can also just see from any aerial shot, you know, is like,
they kept showing the shots of 17. And normally it's just one big shade of green, you know,
across that whole part of the property.
And today it's like, okay, green, green, green,
oh, the grass, like on the actual putting surface
is a completely different color.
And it just is...
We saw a whole threesome of guys in the water in the same group.
Wet boys.
The wet bandits out there.
Yeah, that was...
I forget who was in that group.
Gary Woodland...
I forget who the other three guys were,
or the other two guys were.
Deid, one of the first things I saw,
saw today was they had some really good drone shots of, I think it was number three and then later on
six. And I don't know, the older I get, the more, I won't say I was a sawgrass hater,
but I was always kind of like, oh, that's course, a little overrated as far as like, I wish they'd
take it back to what it used to be with the, you know, kind of scruff and stuff. But he all wants
three more island greens out there. No, it's a little, what I'm, what I was going to say is it's,
it might be the most geometrical course on tour. And it just aren't many like that. Like, there's just
real sharp lines and real contrast to the dark green grass, the like blue placid water and then
the sand. And these, these lines, they just, it's like a Kandinsky painting or something. They just,
when, when you show it from above and there's like this weird like modern, like modern art in the
bunkers, there's like circles and triangles and stuff. And I don't know, like maybe the older I get,
the more I'm like just noticing like stuff like that. I, I just, I kind of wanted to appreciate it.
Like, I, the analogy I would use is, I would never want like the Gordon-Bombay modern house on the beach.
I'd want more of like a normal.
Sure.
Like, you know, Randy might with his, with his ruler bullet.
But sometimes it's like, you look at that modern architecture.
Like, that is objectively like, it's sick.
It's not for me.
So it's interesting.
Yeah.
It's like we're, it's different.
And I, I don't think in the past I've appreciated that enough about TPC sawgrass.
So that was one of the first things I was thinking about this morning, Dej.
I totally agree.
I was, I was kind of thinking the same thing.
today where I'm like, you know, if everybody's going to say that, you know, which I'm very much
in this camp, even though it can get kind of like eye-roly and punchable is, you know, golf courses
are works of art and they're supposed to be this expression of a vision and all of these
things, then yeah, you need some that look different. It doesn't mean like everybody, you're not,
it's not paint by numbers. And I really love, you know, the old school golden age stuff, but it's like,
no, it can't all be that or otherwise the world wouldn't be very interesting. And that's where I'm
stick. Yeah, that's where I've kind of
grown in with TPC Sawgrass too is I think
when my opinions were a lot
stronger, I think I looked at that golf course
just like, nope, wrong. You guys
don't get it. And now the owner I've got
original form. I'm like, I don't know, man.
Maybe the new owners came in and said like, we're going to make
a modern house now. Yeah. The older I've gotten
the more appreciation I think we both. I think
you can still be a little bit more rugged
on some of the edges and a little bit
more turned up in spots, but also
a whole like eight. Great
example. It's like one that every time I'm out there,
it just grows on me just a little bit more there's like a stair stepped almost walkway or fairway
there and it was a kind of a middle right pin today and you really had to shape one in
left to right and it's a cool hole and like nine I just I continue to think like nine 11 it's one of
the best sets of par fives in the world Roy didn't didn't burn any of them today that was that was
that was another thing it's incredible right when coverage started they they hit him with the uh oh
Rory's put a driving iron in the bag today.
And he hits it so far left.
And I was like, just a chloroform, not good ball.
And I was like, man, I have done that's so relatable.
I'm going to put the driving iron this week.
I'm going to hit so many fairways with this thing.
And you just get, just get out in front of this thing.
And, you know, maybe, maybe Rory throws a, there's a steel shafted driver.
I don't know.
I'm interested to see if that driving iron stays in the bag because it was left there.
And then he had the lefts in play on.
what, six.
I think 11 again, two.
Yeah, a lot of less in play.
Yeah, you got it a little more under control eventually.
But all right, sorry, I had a great transition the first time.
And I don't know if I have a good.
The guy who's taking the left side out of, out of the go out of play.
Sully, how's the update there?
Is that, is that happened?
I don't know.
And it's, it depends on the day.
You know, some days the left misses back.
Some day, I was really upset to let you down on the back injury.
transition that you had queued up there earlier.
And I was hoping you would just blame my back for why I pulled out of the last second here.
We got some tech issues solved and we're hopefully ready to roll.
Don't fly the banner quite.
Yeah.
Let's see how it goes here before.
Solly, great to see you out just chaperoning speed around today.
I had a feeling we might get to that.
I had a feeling.
I love every good text.
I'm on.
Just immediately blown it up.
Yo, what's Solly do it?
Solly got,
so I got reprimanded in the media center.
arms length for the rope, Sally. Come on.
Let me be clear.
I got done dirty by a zoom lens.
Trust me, I was not nearly as close as that image.
Look, it does look incredibly close.
It's like you're looking over Greller's shoulder.
I don't know.
I don't think that number's right.
It does.
But let me promise you I was way farther away that it made a look on camera,
but I was indeed haunted by the image that made it on television.
I worked pretty hard most of the day to make sure I was out of the TV shot.
I did not see that camera.
It got me.
How was a day out there, Sally?
What did you see?
You know, it was a delight.
And I still, you know, we didn't get the conditions we want.
We got a lot more rain for a longer period of time than we thought we would.
And I still, I still want to stand here and salute the way the PGA tour set up this golf course because they did all they could.
I truly feel that way.
They had it as about as ready to go as possible.
And it held up a little.
held up well considering the softness and the lack of when the guys got on the majority of the
afternoon. So I, uh, I enjoyed so much of the golf and I'm still, the leaderboard is really,
really, really good in the morning. And it was really, really, like, I was nerding out on, on the
data golf site. Like, it was like off the chart in terms of the, the, uh, best talent was separating
at a level that is just like unimaginable in the early part of the day. And it, of course, died down
as the day went along with the rain and things like that. But,
It was just like all I could ever ask for out of the setup and this tournament.
And it, I don't know, maybe I'm still vibing a little bit off the good vibes from yesterday as well.
And I'm viewing things to a more optimistic lens.
But it was just, it was a, it was a really nice day out there despite getting quite wet.
No, I thought Neil said it said it well on the, the front of the show.
I mean, it's like even without the two horses, like it's kind of what we were saying in the preview shows.
Like there is a really, really interesting group of, I almost said, dude.
lowercase D dudes, you know, guys, a really interesting group of guys that are all kind of right there in the top like 20.
I mean, it's going to be, it's going to be one of those guys, you know, it seems like.
And that, that makes for a great weekend and it all is like set up by a great setup.
So it should be a really good, like the course is going to bounce back tomorrow.
Like, I don't think it's going to be a push over, be a dart fest.
Like it's still, yeah, they can they can pull some levers.
I think, you know, they're just, there was an article on pgatswore.com today that it was like,
oh, like it was just a much drier spring here.
And it was like, no, it wasn't just that.
Like you can tell they're doing a lot of different stuff.
They've got a new superintendent over there.
Like they're like it's a new era at TPC sawgrass as far as as far as the presentation of the golf course goes.
Even some of the pins.
We just got the round two whole locations and they're putting the pin back again.
on 16, which normally it's, it's in the front, you know, at least one of the first two days and two
of the four days. We'll see what they do Saturday. And I assume it'll be back right on Sunday.
But like, I think that's, that's something else. Like that was a great whole location today,
that back left location because you've got to get it up above that ridge or else it's going to
spin down to the front or you're going long and you're one hopping it over the, you know.
Yeah. Tahl, you want to have a very healthy discussion about the back page.
on 17.
Yeah, I felt like it,
um,
it,
later in the afternoon,
it,
it did play a little bit more fair.
And again,
I don't like,
like to use that.
But I,
I get a little bored when it gets really firm on 17 on that back pin
because like the shot is just,
honestly,
I just want to win this in the slope in the middle.
And it's,
it's too exact.
It's like,
it's like unrealistically exacting to the point where like,
at one point in the day,
I think I sent it over.
It was like,
five birdies, 33 pars, seven bogeys, and a couple others.
And it's really just like hit the kind of front of the green
and two putt it from there.
And it, it's not, when you add a little bit more softness
than it a little bit later in the day,
you saw guys trying to fly it back there.
You saw Keith Mitchell go long.
And then on his second ball, he barely held up and whatnot.
But it is, I think it's a, it's not the best green in the world.
I think it's kind of a flawed back section of that green.
And I don't think there's a ton of,
on a Thursday Friday
to the back hole locations
nobody's like really factoring in a ton of
risk reward in this time period like you're playing
the tournament probably relatively
conservatively and I think watching it on
repeat could be a little bit of a bore
that's my kind of stuck up take
on 17. I think that's fair
I do I think that there's
you could convince me that
the back pins should only be on
Friday when it's like no give us some
give us some fireworks on Thursday
give us some fireworks on Saturday
I give us the hard pin on, you know, on Sunday.
I kind of do like when they do that.
But in the interest of like it's a major, let's make the scoring average higher,
let's make this a more demanding shot.
That is the more demanding shot for sure, you know, or the more demanding three.
I should say.
And it, it puts pressure like JT three putted from there today.
Tommy made a 24 footer for Bertie.
And like there's, I think I like having a similar presentation for both Thursday and Friday.
If we're going to get a potential wave split like this,
or we're going to get, like, I think the guys that played in the morning
were a distinct disadvantage today,
and those guys should be in an advantage tomorrow.
But I think the guys that play in the morning tomorrow
when it's windy, and it'll be an opposite wind,
but that'll be a more interesting shot to me with the opposite wind tomorrow
of kind of east-northeast.
So, anyway, we're getting into the weeds here.
We had 16 balls in the water off the T on 17.
today 18 total in the water which I was thinking about spun back off the front I mean
I'd like to shave it down a little bit more in the front but you're little by little
new little by little I've said progress TC definite progress I was thinking about it today I was
like you know with everything you hear from the tour I'm like we're we're just really uh
we're going to look at all these ingredients what makes a great tournament what you know we're going
to be relentless in our pursuit of chasing these these different product ingredients
I'm like, okay, well, that's about, you know, just 15-ish percent tea shots in the water.
I'm like, I've never thought about it like that.
I'm like, that's what we need.
It needs to be 15 percent.
If it dips below that, we got a big problem.
Three tablespoons of tea shots in the water.
If you just, I'm just thinking about it like that.
It just makes it way funnier to me.
If it's everybody who puts a peg in the ground is like you, you're going to be among,
you might be among the 15%.
We'll see.
You have 85% chance you're not going to hit in the water.
But, you know, I'm like, that's, that's a pretty good risk.
You know,
If we have all 16% today, we're going to get 25% tomorrow.
Exactly.
Everyone's got to make their quota here.
You made a good point about that backpin being boring.
And if these guys being disciplined,
they're just going to hit it right into that hill and control their spin.
But then I thought the broadcast did a good job of flagging,
like, how many over most of these guys are on 17?
Like, it's still in a lot of guys' heads.
Like Brooks, he's been 20 over and 20 tries.
They're taking it out of their head.
Like Denny McCarthy is, they almost jinxed him,
but he's hit the green there.
Are you playing into the commercial now?
24 times.
What?
Can't get out of my head?
No, I'm not.
I was being serious.
Like,
I thought the same thing.
Like,
I agree with what Sally's saying.
These guys are really good back pin off limits.
I'm just going to hit it to the front.
But then they show kind of the over 10 years how this whole still takes its scalps when,
you know,
over time.
Like, guys just missed the shot.
You know, it is, it is in their head, T.C.
Now I'm doing the bit.
And I think anybody who makes a really big number on 17s probably about ready to get back to the clubhouse for an ice cold high noon, guys.
Because we are also brought to you today by our friends at high noon.
I saw.
I could do stuff.
I'm smart.
I could do things.
Make the day a good day with the all new high noon day pack, new variety eight pack will soon be available year round to keep the sun shining.
Neil, we need it.
I need one of my favorites.
I need the sun shining and the good times roll it all year round.

I think cranberry is a good flavor
for you guys while it's cold out up there.
That's true. Yeah. A little taste of the holidays.
Crafted with real vodka and real juice, the high noon
day pack brings together pair
cranberry, tangerine and peach.

High noon sun's up.
Guys, I think this is going to lead to a couple
of different conversations here.
If we're looking at the top of this leaderboard, the tip top of this leaderboard, we got
Madh McNeely, Lee Hodges, Sepp Straca, Sahith Tagala, and Austin Smotherman, I believe,
has a play has been called.
I believe he's got a 15-footer to take the outright lead, but currently at 5 under.
Which of those guys gets you most excited about this weekend?
T.C., I'll start with you.
Ah, Sahith.
That was fucking electric.
Sally, I know you, Sally, I know you want.
watch some of it up close. Like, what do you see?
It was awesome, man. I mean, he, it, I've watched a lot of sawhift and I, every time I do watch
him, I'm like, yeah, you are electric, but you are not in control your golf ball, brother.
It's fun to watch, but you don't really know where it's going. And today it was like,
you know, he, uh, he had a great shot into the back left pin on three made birdie.
Bertie's his first three holes. And then he drives the left on four into the rough.
And I was like, all right, here we go. Like we're about to see the sawhush. And he just
feathered this ball out of the left.
left rough, down the chimney shoot, barely over a mound to a back right pin that he had really no business chasing.
He ended up missing the putt.
And then he gets up on five drives it in the fairway bunker.
We were struggling with the driver in this part of the round and gets up there and hits a really, really good approach shot out of the fairway bunker.
He had some really nice spin on it.
Again, did not hit a great put here.
He walks off five, like having stuffed it on the first five holes and he could have been five under.
I think the T.C. was in play.
And then we get to six.
He's playing with Jordan and he's playing with Ricky.
He should never be allowed to play with Jordan, by the way.
That was too much.
Or they should have to play like President's Cover Rider Cup together.
Yeah.
You play all shot together.
Ricky and Speeth are both in the fairway.
So is Sahith.
And they both hit these really cool shots that both get right up to the hole.
Both Ricky and Speeth almost hold her on six, but they both sucked back eight to 12.
I mean, Jordan sucked back like 15 feet.
And Sahith steps up and hits this like, the ball's little above his feet.
this kind of cool,
trappy little draw that goes towards the center of the green
and kind of lands going forward.
And it had like the delayed juice.
I mean,
you can see the shot tracker on the screen right now.
That's how the ball like worked in there from right to left,
had the delayed juice and didn't have the rip directly backwards.
They had like a soft rip going towards the hole.
And I was like,
oh my God,
my guy is in control of the golf ball.
And he dropped another one,
a gorgeous fade in there on the eighth hole.
And it was the thrill of the day.
was watching sahith hit the ball and it just
he's got a little men wooly in him
we don't know if this thing's going to last 72
holes but it lasted 18 and
I'm extremely intrigued and DJ's
in shambles I mean that was the main
takeaway was he's completely in shambles
over this development even talk about how to get on nine
Dege did go to his ninth hole
because he didn't
he didn't make
par he ended up making
bogey but that
that's the third shot
out of the straw
just to get it on the green and they three-potted
was top three shots I saw all day.
I was more thinking about the second shot
that put him in that spot,
but that's neither here nor there.
So I cannot tell you a couple things.
One,
I cannot tell you how fucking stoked Bones was
to be calling his round.
It was,
it was awesome.
Like it truly infectious.
Every time he hit an iron shot,
bones are just like,
man,
he's just going right at the pin again.
Man,
this guy's fearless.
It was great.
When Bones gets,
he doesn't get fired up too often.
When he does,
It's really, really fun.
And then he hold out on 12.
We even got to that one.
He made it two on 12.
That was such a bad shot.
He literally mouthed right back to his caddy, man.
That was so bad.
I know when you say like he's in control of his golf ball.
It's like, well, every time I look up, he's in the left bunker on nine.
I'm like, what the hell's going on here?
He's like, okay, I'm looking at the numbers.
3.9 plus 3.9 strokes gained approach.
Well, then what I'm seeing is it, he's like the mentalist.
He's like, he's like, oh, like, how'd you do?
How'd you pull my...
Oz?
You know, the...
Oz.
How'd you pull that name out of that football cake?
You know what I mean?
It's like, what the hell?
O's.
O's?
My O's face.
With O's.
I do.
You're right.
I think I saw someone call him O's on TV.
Anyway.
Yeah, I got my face.
If so.
Yeah, Neil, I'm with you in that, like...
Sorry, it's...
Just pulling it out of his ass, but the numbers say one thing.
I can't...
It doesn't add up.
It's great.
And I think this is kind of, again, like circling back to some of what we were talking about with sawgrass is like, what course would you rather watch Sawhith in contention on more than this one?
I mean, that is like sign me up, man.
It's going to get, it's going to get electric.
You got little whiffs of it today.
But some of those par fives are just hanging on for, you know, hanging off the side of the airplane.
And we got all sorts of people in the chat saying that Neil is right.
He pronounced it correctly.
I think I might be.
I'm not going to fight you on it, but I.
What?
Yeah.
There's only one way that we can solve this.
I'll run a poll to,
you know,
the internet is never wrong.
I'll run a list of all right now.
I just heard it pronounced O's and it shocked me and I'm a big fan of that guy
because he rocks my world and that's what Sa is doing with his golf game.
Just rocking my world.
We will not apologize.
We will not apologize for this one.
If this is,
I don't know if I can continue to show until we have clarity on this.
But,
uh,
Yeah.
I'd be wrong on that one.
It wouldn't be the first time.
Well,
also among the leaders,
MAV,
I mean,
I feel like we've talked MAV,
uh,
you know,
before we even talk Mavs golf game,
his mustache.
Incredible.
It's such a good look.
Like,
I was,
like,
I'm like,
that's like vintage pilots.
Oh,
look at that.
And he's just,
he's like,
you like it.
I was like,
I love it.
I think it's,
I think that needs to stay.
I think it looks like our friend,
the party panther a little bit to me.
It's what is what stuck out.
He's kind of got some small-time, like small-town sheriff, or, you know, small-town.
Not even sheriff, T.C., it's more deputy.
It's like he's young on the force.
Our friend Lou, Turner, there.
Lou, we'll get to you.
I think he whiffed a little bit on your forecast today.
I think that's right.
Well, Neil, I don't have a hell of a lot to add because I feel like we've talked about Mav a lot as he's been playing really good golf and been in contentional a lot.
But, man, another big moment, another big step and would love to just see him continue to be this guy, you know?
This feels like there's there's career defining stakes on the line for 80% of the guys on, you know, in the top 15, let's say.
And that's, that's awesome.
Yeah.
And with Mav specifically, it just feels like his floor is, I mean, obviously, floor is just like so much higher than it's ever been.
This just doesn't, this feels incredibly normal for him to just go out.
Can I say one thing, though?
Because just back to Sahith for a second.
I think I root for him.
And I, I just wish there were more players that are, were that magnetic when they were on.
TV, but Sali, 20 bucks right now.
I mean, would you bet it on him to win? Do you know what I'm saying?
Like, yes, for sure. No, I, yes, I agree with you. No, I would not take that bet.
Right? And that's what's tough. It's like, I'm like, I just don't know if it's sustainable.
And that's what's so, like, devastating about it. I feel like I don't know, man.
It doesn't. Welcome to the party, man. It's good to have you on my block here.
This is, I love it, but I can't count on it.
Exactly. I don't root for speed and Sahuth because I think they're about to win. I, I
route because it's a thrill ride and I feel things when they're when I'm on that ride uh but speed was
like unstoppable for a while do you know like that's maybe the a bit of a and he's close he's really
close uh he was close to me that double on 18th can i say something weird about the players and the
leaderboard and whatever i feel like the players is like a six round tournament compared to other
tournaments the players is a long tournament it is has many different phases and you know there's
guys that can sneak up and almost steal it on Sunday that you haven't really been following
through three rounds and I don't know exactly why that is but it is one that um because there's
just so much unpredictability uh from hold to hole you can be playing great and still make a double
or triple very easily that it's just such a long tournament that we might not even be talking about
saw if come Saturday it wouldn't surprise who do you think the favorite is right now get a guess looking
at the odds yeah I'm not looking at the I'm not going to look at the board yeah you can look at the
board but not the odds.
Russ,
Russ Henley?
Yeah, I bet it's
Russ Henley.
I was going to say,
plus 950,
Gotti next,
plus 1,000,
SEP next plus 1,200,
Sep Mav,
Pam Young,
Alt plus 1,200,
Ludwig after that.
So let me ask you the question
a different way,
because I think it'd be unfair to be like,
will you right now bet that
it's going to win for 20 bucks?
Like, okay, that's bad.
My question, though, is like,
do you think this strokes gained approach is third overall today?
Do you think he's going to stay in the top five over four rounds?
Because he's, you know, his putting was average.
Like he was, you know, like, probably not.
Like top 10, I would say, I would say five would be like he's probably going to,
he's probably going to win if he, if he was in the top five with how good of a short game he has.
Top 10, I'd say.
I mean, it was, it was impressive today.
It really was.
And it didn't feel like he was hanging on by a threat.
It may have looked like that on TV, but it just didn't feel that way.
because it was raining and like the whole routine,
wiping the club face 50 million times,
caddy doing the umbrella over the ball.
Like it was a lot of variables going on.
And he was controlling his spin and approaches better than anybody,
like better than two world class iron players he was playing with as well.
And it was raining hard on his hardest holes too.
Yeah.
If you think I'm going to get past the MAV part on Thursday
without mentioning that he was my pick greater than 50 to 1 to win,
you're absolutely wrong.
I don't know if I can do this,
you know,
mention this tomorrow or Saturday.
I'm going to get it in now.
Just a reminder that that was my guy.
The only thing I'm concerned with Mav is Mav only hit five fairways today.
I don't think they were egregious misses or whatever,
but like Sahith hit more fairways than math.
Same with SEP.
That was his thing too.
I mean, it usually drives it pretty straight.
And today was all over the place and scrambled his,
scramble his face off.
Sep kind of, I was telling you guys earlier,
Sep kind of reminds me of just the old players champions of your,
you know, the, the,
Clark.
Fred Funk, Tim Clark, KJ. Choi,
Hal Sutton.
He used to make stuff in this country.
No, no, no.
I just mean that.
I don't even know how to describe what I mean.
He's just kind of a,
yeah,
it's not like,
it's not Tiger and Phil win it every year.
It's like those guys.
And I'm like,
yeah, he's kind of like one of those guys.
Really good.
You know, there's nobody that wins the players
who's just like a complete joker.
It's always just like, oh, yeah, you know what?
It's like when Siwu won a little bit,
when people are like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
he's a great player.
Yeah, for sure.
Speaking of complete jokers, you know who I saw today?
Elk.
Elk was growing premises.
Yeah.
God, speaking of time going, I'm flipping through the Mavs hole by all.
I'm not concerned about the driving accuracy.
No, they weren't egregious misses.
Yeah.
I have some devastating news to report.
Oh, no.
Neil's right.
Neil was right.
Oh, is the mentalist.
God.
I don't know.
Broken clock twice a day, gentlemen.
Come on.
An official apology.
Wait, this is a really important moment.
T.C.
We need your expertise here.
How do we get out of this without apologizing?
How do we do it?
What we typically say on the trap draw is that I've got this up because we've read it.
Not because we've heard it.
We've read it.
And that's that's kind of.
This is so vindicating.
I love it, man.
I was like, man, I think that's right.
I'm not going to say anything because I've,
I've been taking some L's lately.
That one, though, feels real good, deep down.
That's good.
Hey, real quick on MAV TC.
You guys might have missed it because you were out at the course,
but ESPN Plus did an awesome job of talking about Mav and Scout coming in this year
with like an actual game plan of, hey, we don't need to birdie every single whole.
We don't need to be in the right position every single time.
We just seriously need to take these dumb doubles that has constantly snuck up on him out of play.
And him and Scout, like, they have a game plan that seems like they executed it perfectly today.
So, yeah, not, maybe.
Not his.
They're busy right now.
I don't remember.
I wasn't a scout.
I think, God, I'm going to, I'm going to miss.
I just got the O's thing right now.
I'm going to get the Skax on or wrong.
Let me double it down.
Let me get, yeah.
I don't know.
I'm going to say, I don't know.
I'm asking.
I'm asking.
I don't know.
I was only a wee below.
Is one boy scouts and one girl scouts?
I'm not sure. I can't remember.
We'll take that off.
All right. We're off the rails. I'm sorry.
Lee Hodges leads the field in putting that out there.
So if you want to throw a sustainability models flag, you would be more than welcome within your rights to do that.
I think that goes in the category of if he's there Friday night, we can talk about it.
Yeah.
How about that?
Heck of a round of golf.
Austin Smotherman also just playing really good golf, but also WD from Bay Hill with a back injury
and now back playing great golf again.
So we'll see.
By the way, speaking of back injuries and just stuff like that,
how about Monday Q info,
Billy Horsh will go back and forth on XT everything up today.
Ryan from Monday Q.
He's got a lot of time, T.C.
unfortunately for you.
I believe Ryan's take was that all the TGL players seem to be getting back injuries,
which I don't, you know, there is.
I don't know if it's a causation correlation.
It might be a substation nearby, like the 40s.
exactly exactly
I'm not saying he's wrong
it's interesting
Billy did was not buying it but
I did love the take
I encourage Ryan to keep
keep shooting
as always
I'm trying to see what the
possible connection would be there
the substation well he was saying
they like guys electromagnetic pulse
you know guys who are
you're chasing speed
like they're trying to
they're trying to find speed
to hit it harder into the screen
basically
I don't subscribe to it.
I'm just, that's just what he said.
I think everybody's chasing speed to, for, for Pete,
I mean, but who guys, who among us hasn't gone to an indoor simulator and tried to hit it as hard as they can into the screen?
Like that kind of adds up, you know?
Yeah.
That said, these guys are on track, like track man or foresight or whatever all the time.
Like every time they practice, they've, they got one of those.
Most of the time outdoors, though.
There's a lot less, uh, you don't really know where the ball's going indoors.
You know, you can just hammer it into.
the screen.
You know, it's like,
I might have missed that one big.
Not in the garage,
no consequence.
Not the garage.
I've,
I've bit myself on that one a couple of times.
Missed the net.
See what happens there.
TC,
talk should take us down the leaderboard for a little bit.
Then we got a,
we got a couple other directions.
Yeah,
we got JT.
Impressive round from JT.
I thought it just built,
he built a very coherent round of golf in tough conditions.
You know,
and,
and,
I still can't get over Scotty,
practicing in the rain for,
a long time after his round.
Like Scottie was,
he was acting a little defeated at times
and then Scottie was acting a little bit
cheeky at times too.
Like he jumped a miss putt,
which was great.
I like that.
I'm for that.
He's trying to win you back, T.C.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, he's got a long way to go.
Creative self-loathing.
That's what we want, right, T.C.
Exactly.
Our hero did not live up to the standard
that we had created for him.
I didn't see much of Cam Young's rounds.
I can't,
can't comment too too much.
He's out there doing it.
We respect that.
Yeah,
minus four.
He's my pick to win,
so I'm happy to see him in the mix.
Love it.
Would we feel differently about Scotty if,
if he was in the,
like,
so the afternoon split wave was the difference was about like 1.6 shots,
it looks like,
you know,
if he's even,
if he was like maybe two under in the afternoon wave,
would be like,
oh, Scottie's going to win.
Like, come on, guys,
he's sitting right there.
I'm asking.
I followed him for quite a bit of the round.
And like it didn't feel like it's,
and the second shot he hindered two was like horrendous.
He still was the driver,
so he had it,
they had the right miss and play all day.
And it's really,
he,
that follow through,
which,
you know,
it's never made sense to me how,
how the number one player in the world can just follow
through that way.
But it looks like he's,
he's really fighting it to keep it off the right side.
It is.
We did notice this like though out watching Scotty.
like watching his swing on television isn't like wow like it's not louis who's tason it's not it doesn't
like blow you away it's unique it's different but like the the gracefulness of it in person
is noteworthy like just seeing it watching the best ballet dancer in the world yeah for like for the
record i love it i can't get enough of it it's it's a violent thrash it's awesome it's both
like violent and it's ballet tc um it also was just a good reminder of like
getting back in person, getting eyes on golf shots because he hit this approach into 16.
The wind was hard off the right, his third shot.
Ball was below his feet.
And he just makes this move at it.
And it comes off so pure.
The sound is incredible.
And it's like right at the flag.
And I'm like,
oh, that probably has a little cut on it.
And it's going to hold up against the wind.
And it gets like drifting just like a yard left of the pin.
And he's got his hand off the club already of like,
no, that's off.
Like the margins out there are so insanely thin.
Sure enough that, I mean, it was like, it went like 25 feet left on the fringe.
but the shot was rejected and he knew it immediately.
Even though to my eye it looked like a really freaking good shot,
it's just it's very, very, very difficult at that level.
That was a great pin on 16 today too.
We saw Tommy Made Eagle.
I think Sep, Sep made Eagle there.
There was a couple chip ins there.
But like they're just really good back right whole location that was killer.
Continue to go about in leaderboard.
Like I'm buying what I'm seeing from JT.
I think, you know, looks.
We saw quite a drop on 16 today as well, TC, if we wanted to report that.
Yeah, we're standing there of Sali and Brody Miller and I, we were like,
oh, my God, are we going to get weirded across Twitter?
Because that was the same spot that DB straight vibe in.
And who was he with a few years ago?
I think Victor.
Victor and who hit the ball?
I can't remember.
I could find this in two seconds.
But anyway, like J.T. hit a bad one.
you know, way short right into the lake.
And it was, we were very keen to see where he, he was going to drop.
I think he dropped in the correct location.
If not, he was far bad.
Yeah, I was like very conservative.
I think you get more out of that.
Guys, we haven't mentioned him yet.
Ludwig.
I think he's back.
It's true.
Like, officially.
He didn't make, like, he made some really good par putts today,
missed some very makeable birdie puts that were shorter than the parpots.
And just seems to be like back to.
doing like Ludwig stuff clean round of golf in the morning wave you know kind of in the in the
toughest part of it just patient stuff ball striking his face off um yeah so good stuff there
what did you guys think of big tones outfit loved it it was it was the the classic like if i did
that it would they would put me in jail but i'm glad i'm sincerely glad the big tones doing it it made
me and pull it off don't say do it 100% 100%
percent.
He almost made five bogeys in a row, which would have been cool.
That's the DJ Pi.
But he made eight birdies today.
That's that's notable out there with that golf course.
He almost had a TC and a reverse TC back.
He had four birdies and then four bogeys in a row, both in a row consecutive.
Eight holes without a part of there.
Victor, I thought Victor's outfit looked great as well.
Victor played well.
Zander played well.
It doesn't seem like the,
like still doesn't seem like the putters necessarily cooperating.
Hit the shit out of the chairman.
Bill Mao playing well.
Yeah.
Bill Mal and the cat man.
Bud Collie,
can't count the guy out.
You got,
I skipped over Tommy.
Do you guys want to talk about Tommy?
Not really.
I mean,
I think it's been,
he's been playing really bad.
And today he played really good.
Let's see what happens tomorrow,
I think, a little bit.
I'm a bit of a deferral on Tommy.
He was in, he almost...
We did pick him up on 16,
and he played the next three holes four under.
Wouldn't you see him up?
Then he missed a very makeable birdie put on one,
birdie two,
hit an absolute seed on three there.
And then back-to-back bogeys on four and five.
So it kind of cooled off after the little delay there.
But I think Tommy's right there in the mix.
He's looking good to see him win, T.
Of course.
It would.
So that's as fun.
I think that's about as far down as we need to go at this point.
Okshay minus one.
Just some notables.
I think Max,
I think Max's round is worth calling out.
I got the specifics here.
Yeah,
starts his day with a hole out from 139 yards on 10.
That's all I was saying,
you know,
when you're asking us on Monday,
what's the first thing you're going to check?
That was kind of a like one eye open,
rolled,
rolled awake this morning and like 300 through two.
Like,
how did that work?
Birdie's 11.
yeah to get to 300 through 2.
Then he doubles 12 without hitting it in the water, which is, which is impressive.
Bogies 14 doubles 15 makes the turn.
Bogies 1 to get to now he's three over for the day, which is where again, I kind of,
that was the second time I checked in.
I'm just like, oh, I guess it's over.
Then he makes, he birdies five of the next seven, including four birdies in a row.
Solly, you, you made the case.
He may have gotten nervous to accomplish the TC.
Sure.
I think, and then he comes, you know, bogeys his last hole of the day.
Number nine to end up shooting one under.
Just a shocking round of golf.
Electric.
From our guy there.
So it seems like a lot of good and maybe some loose components.
I would shout out also just real quick.
Golf Channel, I was watching Golf Central this morning before coverage came on.
And they aired this video of Max interviewing Tiger all about the greatest shots.
ever hit and tiger just giving like long detailed answers with the highlights going back and forth
and it was one of the coolest videos i've ever seen i thought it was going to be like 30 seconds
and it just kept going for like 10 minutes and everyone that you're like oh man i hope they do like
the canadian open they would do the canadian open oh i hope they do firestone they would do firestone
it's fucking awesome it's up on golf channel youtube i tweeted out as well like must watch it was so
excited to watch this it was one of the better when did they film this dege you know i think it's
at RIV. I think the first like
outdoor establishing shot is like
the clubhouse at Rive. But it's
great. Canadian Open. I didn't even take it of it.
And it's also one of those things that like
I was kind of just like halfway through
watching it. I'm just like
think back you know
seven, eight, nine, ten years
ago and just be like
oh that's our guy Max. Just interview
Tiger about all the greatest shots he's ever hit
in like a long form setting. Like yeah
that's just like totally totally normal thing.
It's just very funny.
very very cool video to piggyback off of that dege people are listening now people people things are
changing like the the golf world at the pj tour level is changing on so many different fronts
you guys are down there you're all freaking cool a i just need you to take let's just give it a little
i love the energy i love the energy last night he was brilliant on listening him and mcgainly just
no i have no i was impressed with the press conference and stuff but
And I love what I'm hearing.
I like the vision, but vision and execution are two different things.
I'm just hoping that we don't, things don't get watered down.
I love the excitement.
I'm just trying to be, you know, maybe a voice of like, I'm just, yeah, the second carried away.
The key to life, guys, is low expectations, okay?
I agree.
I was going to say, speaking of carrying things, Neil, if you're going on any golf trips this summer,
like we are going to be going on, we've got a trip to Northwest England coming up.
We've got a trip to an undisclosed tourist loss location.
You're going to want to be carrying your golf bag with you
and you're going to want to put it in a club glove travel case, guys.

because it's engineered with tons of features that deliver unrivaled protection
for your equipment from the velour lined, padded clubhead area to the stiff arm,

The velour is like so luxurious.
like I feel like I'm like putting my clubs
in their little
it's almost like a little coffin for them
it's like oh it's where you get your lay flat
sleep inside the club glove
just just set it on the lay flat
I need it I need my
self-shock a ball dome to have a
he carries the club glove on board it's his blank
it's his coffin
it's his own lay flat
Solly, have you been using the stiff arm or not?
You are not a stiff arm guy, right?
Still never use a stiff arm.
Yeah.
I'm American.
They take care of my clubs.
Sorry, I'm with you.
I don't either.
Really?
I can't leave.
Can't leave home without it.
Unlike T.C., I trust my airline to handle my clubs with care and they always do.
So I don't want to sit.
I want to my jigs it.
Neil, we're kind of going back and forth today on, you know, I don't know how we're
going to build this into a segment, but we're like, it's not really things that are sick.
it's not really like key observations.
Just kind of stuff I saw,
stuff I wrote down.
I know you got a lot of stuff.
I said things that are sick,
TPC sawgrass station.
I watched a lot of golf and I was like,
I don't know where this fits,
but I thought it was funny.
I love it.
Why don't you give me a couple?
What do you got the notebook today?
All right.
First up,
it hit me just in the face,
Sali,
you were standing right after I saw you
looking over Grella's shoulders,
but they showed the view of the approach into six.
The palm trees on surroundings number six are sick.
It's such a striking contrast to how...
Like how tall the trees are, and they're spaced out in a kind of a weird way.
It looks like a Dr. Seuss book.
It does.
And Cody, I think I sent you a graphic of Sawhis approach, but just it just looks magnificent.
And I don't think that's six.
Everyone's talking about the tree up by the tea.
I want to talk about the trees by the green.
Those are sick.
Dege, what do you got?
God, a lot of directions.
Yeah, they are.
A lot of directions we could go.
I also, I mean, you'd be remiss not to mention them putting the tree back in on the tea.
Well, I was saying everyone's talking about that tree.
That's an awesome tree.
But I'm like, man, these trees, this whole, this whole like art exhibition up here with the palm trees by the green is not getting enough love.
You know what I'll.
Favorite trees, Jax, too.
I love those trees.
You know what I'll shout out, Neil, is I hate to take it in a negative, a negative direction here.
But Davis Riley and Emiliano Grillo shot 84 today.
Get your 84 jerseys out.
that is sick uh we're five five rounds above 80 today and what made this kind of sick too is like
tc we were talking earlier and i this is not a shot of tc i fully agree because he had like an
awesome rookie season he's just got like he just seems like he fits the bill so yeah we're tc's
like you know i'm talking to all these people and they just like don't understand like why
davis riley isn't like there what he's doing like why why hasn't he like figured it out and
today i was just scroll into the leerboard oh 84 like that's that's tough
Not quite ready for you.
Quite ready.
He made four doubles and a triple.
It was pretty clean other than that.
It was.
But he finished T2 at a major last year.
It's just, you know, since then, I think he's missed 11 cuts.
He finished T2 at the PGA.
Oh, it wasn't real major.
Scottie won his account.
It was a real.
Yeah.
Hell you.
I had a T6 out of absolutely nowhere this year at Sony.
And like I said, just like, won the Zurich, right?
and looked really good in his rookie year.
And it just doesn't seem like a guy
that should be shooting 84.
Runner up to Scottie at the L.S. Jr.?
Is that right?
Yeah.
I remember a big talking point with him
was that he and Scotty went at it in junior golf.
I love it.
Hey, listen, I'm hot tonight.
That might be three for three.
I'm hot tonight.
And also it's Scouts on her is three fingers.
I got word.
Three fingers.
So we were right on that one, too.
Let's go three for three.
Double down.
that's exactly right again Neil
Sheffler beat of Dallas
won the last four holes
to beat Davis Riley
It's like an episode of limitless
going on right now
He'll's got like an intern next to this desk
beating him all this shit
Neil let me let me snake it back
just because I see Cody's got the photo pulled up
but there were a couple
playing throughs today
that were just a static shot of the clubhouse
And they were like, we're going to do a plague through and then they just left that, that like still up for.
Scummy.
Very scummy.
So that, anyways, that was mine.
What else you got?
What else I have?
So we talked about Hovlin's shirt, but I got a visual of it.
I want to shout that out.
Also, very sick, Hovlin leading the field and strokes gained around the green, which I know it's one round, but that's fun.
And there might be some noise in there.
He may have hold in on this exact clip, but hold in or hold out.
Hold out.
Hold out. I got that one wrong.
He's feeling myself.
He's feeling himself to that. Let him go.
Let him go.
That was a, I just got tongue tied there.
That's, that's, that's, don't do that.
That's classless, T.C.
But I thought that was cool that Hovlin was, uh, leading the field and strokes
gained around the green.
That is good.
God, I feel like all mine are just so negative here.
Hey, were they piping, were they piping bird noises in?
Oh, that's on my list, T.C.
When I got a word from, from Sali, the bird sounds were outrageous.
The broadcast couldn't stop talking about him.
It sounded like turkey vultures and all kinds of weird birds.
Was Sally able to verify this?
He said he couldn't hear anything.
Ornithologist.
Once I got Neil's message, I was like, oh, there are a lot of birds chirping around here.
But believe it or not, I don't notice these things and don't think about these things, despite all of the messages I get on Instagram for many people.
Thank you, T.C.
You sent me a bird video this week as well.
I really appreciate that.
I didn't notice until you said it, but I'm like, yeah, there are.
It sounds a spring or in the air out here.
That's a yellow breath of the hatch.
I want to shout out
Saul your your captain
Keegan made a nine today
on 11
just completely hit it all over the map
through that one out there for you
as just a yeah it doesn't seem to be going great
for
I think of 7
one thing in this in this list
delayed juice
yeah the delayed spin in person
Pete the fans love
absolutely love it
the chicks take it
We've known that since we played with JT at Koppel.
He's like, oh, the women, they always love it when you spin it back.
They love to spin it back.
It's the suspense.
Like, you know, Ricky especially had a bunker shot.
If you can find a way to watch it on five, it's about a 40-yard bunker shot.
And he hits it like 50 feet past the hole.
And it like kind of skips long of the green.
And then it just like sits in place for a second and then just goes in reverse.
Like with the delay on it.
And the delay adds that extra layer of, ooh, would it rid of rolls back.
I wanted to shout out the punchout on 18 at Sawgrass is always they must watch.
Sure.
It always feels like it's going to go in the water.
It feels like one of the hardest shots on the course to truly like.
It's one of the most thrilling punchouts in golf.
It would be really cool.
A lot of those like seem like they want to go left anyways.
That whole fairway can't's right to left.
It all runs down to the water.
It just is like so easy to hit that too hard and punch it straight in the water.
It's just a shot I love.
Just thinking of this now, I put it in the suggestion box for the superintendent,
it, but the course is so green.
They should just make that part of the fairway on 18 brown.
So it's just so like to make it even harder.
Yeah, well, you know, they make this spot brown because this is the hardest punch out of golf.
That's a great idea, right?
Just that one, that one area of the course would be.
Yes.
What if they made an asphalt?
Sure.
Sign me up.
Or like, like we said with the notched with the notched collar, like you could just put some strips of asphalt.
Like if it can runaway truck ramp.
Yeah, exactly.
It reversed the opposite.
He almost got Randy's prediction on somebody falling in early
because JT's ball was incredibly, incredibly close to falling in on 18.
And got a lot of messages on that one.
You said Max McGreevy was close too, right?
Wasn't he?
Max McGreevy was at the end of the day on 17.
Yeah.
He was standing on the boards.
Dege, I got one.
This, I mean, you've been talking about this for a month.
This came across my desk just this week.
The Jason Mraz, the Mr. A to Z avocado.
waste management avocado commercial.
Just WF.
Just WF these days.
It's outrageous, but I just want to shout out this fit.
I mean, he looks like, uh, from succession, uh, what's his name?
Oh, uh, Adrian, Adrian,
and hardly wait.
Adrian Brody.
Adrian Brody on his private island.
He's got like nine layers on here with the, and I've never seen Mr. A to Z without
the fedora.
Yeah.
So this hat selection is killing me too.
Like it's just a lot going on here.
He's harvested avocados.
And I'm getting beat up with this video on PGA tour.
dot com and now i can't unsee it and you've been you kept saying hey neal your guy mr a to z like
on slack like for the last month i had no idea what you're talking about i'm i've just been like in
a in a cave or something oh shit man i got a couple other things on my list but if you're gonna
tee me up again tc i'm receiving word we've got a new fedora five wow
c let's go there uh the fedora five of course tc's index of the five hottest players
right now only rolled out whenever the situation declares.
We just had one.
I don't know if he's looking to amend some mistakes or get out from under that one
or if he just saw new stuff today.
But either way, T.C. taking it.
No, we had one four days ago.
There were no fedoras for sale in the merch tent today, which was disappointing.
I was hoping for some sort of branded players fedora or 17 Island Green Fedora, nothing.
Guys, we're not going to do the practice squad.
tonight we'll only do that in certain occasions
but I just think the conditions
felt right for it tonight
so without further ado
Sawyth is number five
great I think he is extremely
hot right now it could evaporate like you guys
said at at any moment but right now
he's among that's why we needed a Fedora 5 tonight
was like if we want Sawheith in there it's got to go tonight
exactly and good on him what's those sponsor invites
into into the Fedora 5 like
what's all he was saying that was those
that was false.
I don't know if it's factual or not.
He would have got in through the pineapple five
if he didn't get in through the
the garden.
The pineapple five.
The pineapple.
Well,
actually,
there was a bunch of pineapple merchandise
and I was like,
we don't have pineapples here.
Like,
that's not a,
there's no pineapples growing.
You might have swing yourself.
Yeah,
I think you got more pineapples than you think.
Yeah,
you might not know about it.
Yeah.
It's an Aon activation.
Yeah.
Next up at fourth,
we have a tie.
Jackson Coyland
who won the hate intercollegiate
earlier this week
Is that right across the street?
Yeah,
Congress Country Club.
They should just gotten him into the tournament.
100%.
I don't think there's anybody in the world
whose game probably fits this place
better than Jackson Coyven.
And then he's tied with Cep
and Casey Jarvis.
So we have a three-way tie at four.
Three-way tie at four.
In the top five.
So I hit the seventh then.
No, he's fifth.
Rick Ricky Castillo.
I love that.
Sticking at three.
Yeah.
I believe in Ricky Castillo.
Two under or something today?
Yeah, he's just really solid around to golf.
One under.
Next up, Ludwig.
Okay.
This is a current and also future looking index.
Ludwig's getting hot, guys.
I think he's going to win this week.
And lastly, P, he is number one.
Sure.
So he's one emeritus.
It's going to take so much to unseat P.
When was last time P played?
It played in Joeberg, right?
Joeberg.
Okay.
Top 10.
Top 10.
Almost a national open.
Regional open.
How dare I question that?
Yeah.
All right.
Well, there you go.
There's tonight.
Yeah.
And I looked at, you know, we had live, live Singapore,
really hard layout this week at Centosa.
Bryson and.
Rom are both tied for the lead right now at minus four with Richard T. Lee and Lee Westwood.
Just a lot going on there.
But yeah, I didn't think anybody on Liv warranted, warranted an inclusion in the Fedora 5.
But listen, something could happen overnight tonight.
We're very well and they have another one tomorrow.
We'll see.
But for now, that is your Fedora 5.
What happened to Casey Jarvis?
He didn't have an opportunity for four.
He's tied for fourth.
So he moved down.
Okay, so Henny's the only one that got booted.
Yeah.
Yeah, Henny.
What have you done for me lately?
Henny Zool Plantis.
Other than beyond every leaderboard.
And little Colin, I guess.
But he didn't really count.
Yeah, I mean, availability is the most important ability.
For sure.
That's very good, T.C.
Yeah.
Thank you for getting rid of the practice squad.
That was unbecoming.
It's not getting rid of it.
We're just only getting rid of it.
No, thank you.
It's done.
That part was unbecoming.
No, no, we were getting rid of it.
Rolls,
real laughs, get rid of it.
He's cut,
he's cut that out.
We have a two track,
Fodora five now.
Neil,
you got any,
anything else on your,
I got a bunch.
Yeah.
All right.
I would say,
I could run through these quickly.
I just think the number one player in the world,
practicing in the rain,
but specifically focused on his grip,
working on the most basic thing in golf.
It's just,
I don't know,
man,
after a tough opening round is just,
I can't get enough of that.
It's a reminder to me,
maybe I should,
maybe I should think about my,
grip more. You know, if that guy's doing it, maybe I should care about my grip.
I just think that's awesome, how focused Scotty is on his grip.
He's big on the, on the tree. He just has like the, the 15 handicapped training aid, too,
that he carries around. The six iron with the grip thing. It's great. A little notches. Yeah, it's
awesome. I only had a couple more. I had, uh, golf channel had this graphic up, the split,
which kind of comes up at the players every year, but it's awesome stat. One of the weirdest, coolest
stats and golf, I think.
Rory's front-nine back-nine split at sawgrass is so cool.
He's like, for his career, I think he's five-over, at least coming into today.
Five over on the front, 46 under on the back is just a jarring, jarring split.
Even Furek today was like, you know, I still think like the back's harder.
Like, I don't totally get that, but how about that?
I think once 12 became kind of a pushover than that back-nine.
between 11, 12, and 16.
I mean, just don't mess up 17 and 18.
The rest kind of falls into place in theory.
I was spheric, by the way.
I caught a little bit of the last hour or so.
Super solid.
I think, at least for me, it's like,
a little unnoticeable if I'm squinted.
You know, like I was, oh, he is in the booth.
I didn't, his voice doesn't stand out, which is fine.
And like, I don't mean any shade by that, but solid is good.
No, it's a good word.
Solly said that earlier.
Like, he blends in.
And I'm like, yeah, you could, you could convince that me, that's good.
and you can convince me it's bad.
Like, it's hard to blend in when it's your second event or whatever.
Like, that's a compliment.
Yeah.
But at the same time with you, it's not like a stand-up routine that he's doing.
You know, he just kind of fades into the, to the mix.
I think they got to build them up, right?
But it's just like too many voices.
That's exactly.
Too many voices.
It drowns them out.
The thing.
I think it's going to be good.
The thing with, with Fieric, that's kind of funny,
I could feel myself just like getting old here is the way that so many other
people feel about the voices that, you know, we kind of inherited as broadcasters is probably
how I feel about Furik, where I'm just like, oh, when he talks, I'm like, oh, yeah, no, Jim Furic.
I remember all the moments that you had. I remember when you played this event. I remember when you,
and I'm like, oh, right, that's how all the olds felt about all those other guys that we didn't like.
David Faradie was a pro, guys. I had no idea. Exactly. The one thing about Furik I wanted to point out
is it seems like him and Bones have like incredible just natural rapport.
It's very easy for them to pass things back and forth to, you know, fire things off.
And Bones is very easy to pick it up and run with it where I think the normal NBC Golf Channel crew is struggling with that so far.
So that was, I thought, very additive.
Yeah, agree.
Good call out.
That could be a core to build around.
Yeah.
Team chemistry matters.
Absolutely.
Or somebody to lean.
I got a few more DJ
unless you got one.
I think I knocked mine out.
Chandler Phillips didn't make a birdie.
That's
God,
you were negative today.
Well,
it's just kind of,
I think I was like hanging.
I was hanging out down on the bottom of the leaderboard looking for,
that's where sick things hang out.
Oh,
here's a good one.
Kevin,
you lost five shots on the greens today,
which was two full shots worse than the next worst.
It's like,
And it's a few weeks ago.
Yes.
And it was,
I was like,
oh,
hasn't Kevin,
you've been playing kind of decent?
No,
he's not.
It's like Scottie at that memorial before the,
before the mallet.
Yeah,
he's missed,
uh,
missed six cuts in his last seven events.
And the other one was a T70 at Pebble Beach,
which has 78 players.
So I would fade your Kevin U stock at this point.
Um,
I got,
yeah,
go ahead,
TC.
Well,
I was just going to say,
I was,
I was hanging out around scoring and Sammy Volamaki went in.
Hey,
a bunch of guys were getting drug test today.
It was sick.
It's always a fun surprise for guys.
But Valamaki came out and like,
Volamaki made an eight on number six.
He made a snowman.
He had a quad and a double and shot 78.
Like those were the only two whole.
Otherwise, he was even more the rest of the day.
That's tough scene.
But the entire time I'm just thinking, like I'm just looking at him.
I'm like, that guy belongs on the cliques.
He needs to be.
That guy is a future clique.
Like we need to get him on the squad.
He's just, he's finished.
He's from Northern Europe.
The Cleeks are in Northern European team.
Like, I think he might be the heir apparent to Blandi.
I love that.
Wow.
I love that.
Incredible.
Cody was pointing out, if I'll just keep hoovering up all the negative stuff.
Our friend of the program, Max Grazerman, went 31, 42.
He got, he got out of his skis on a long, short position.
I hate that.
That's tough.
But it is kind of sick.
We do need to call it out.
These oil prices are just messing with all these models.
Yeah, the market index went the wrong way on him.
I've got so Maddie Schmidt just not even attempting to tuck his shirt in.
Like you see a lot of nice.
He does that every week.
Disgusting act.
I love, I thought it was sick.
It was like he's making triple on 14 and it's just like fully untucked.
And it's like sometimes the guy's like, oh yeah, he still got the front tucked in.
I mean, it's just like completely untucked, which I'm like, yeah, man, that's, that's cool.
Maddie Schmidt, this is what Maddie Schmidt looks like every week.
Maybe a future clique as well.
I didn't realize that was in his wheelhouse.
I got Seth Strachka's nickname Ox.
In a world of mules, gentlemen,
I think we should all aspire to be an ox.
And I just really like that.
It's Oaks, actually.
It's Oaks.
Thank you.
Thank you.
You're right.
We should start calling him Sepp's Oaks.
That's good stuff.
Oh, man.
All right.
I got this one, this is a Jack Reaching.
here, but I want to test this one. I want you guys to watch for this because I've noticed it now
for, I don't want to say a couple weeks, but recently, the way Hadeki walks, like, after he makes a
birdie, he reaches into the hole and he grabs the ball and then he kind of wanders around aimlessly
like my son, like my two-year-old son, like he kind of flaps his arms and then he'll look up,
his heads down, and he'll kind of wave at the crowd. It's very awkward, but it's like a kid
that has nowhere to be and it's kind of zigzagging around. And I just,
think it's sick.
And I want you guys to look for it.
Is there a specific example?
Yeah, he made birdie on 10.
Specifically today on 10, he made birdie.
He hit it like that front left pin.
I think he was like left of that pin and made the birdie and he went down and picked
the ball up.
He almost like doesn't know how to react to like a like a good thing.
I don't know.
I don't mean it.
I'm not trying to diss him.
It's really funny to me.
He just kind of like doesn't really know what to do after he makes birdie.
Oh, not all those who wander or lost.
It's awesome.
That is the, man, if you're going to sit and watch golf for about 10 hours a day,
if you don't have that kind of stuff, man, it's...
That's what I'm saying, dude.
I didn't know where to put that in the show, but I feel like some people need to look for this.
I think that is useful communal info right there.
I think people are going to really take heart with that.
What else I had?
It was great to see Zander and Blow by Bridgman wearing white shoes.
I'm happy to see that.
What happened in, Bridgman?
Did he wreck his rig coming in?
Oh, he's minus three.
He made, he made Bowie out 16.
Two under.
Yeah.
He bogey 12 and 16.
He had it to four there.
Last, I got two more.
One is I love seeing Benjamin E. Booms and get paired with Adam Scott.
And was it bridge?
Yes, Bridgman.
Like two guys with like some, with the, specifically the aviators with with Benjamin E.
And the shoes with with with Bridgman paired with like a timeless style of Adam Scott.
I'm like, is it a tour trying to maybe something will rub off on these guys?
I don't know.
But that was interesting.
Brothers program.
Yeah, a little bit.
And then I just want to call this out.
I think we may need to come up with an all-letus power ranking.
Some guys are growing their hair out.
Yeah, S-H-Kim.
Did you see that?
S-H-Kim, you've got Smotherman's got great locks.
Higo, it's outrageous.
I forgot to send it to you, Cody, for the show.
But the fit he had on yesterday during the practice round, just like neon shorts,
like big untucked shirt with the, like, surfing hat and the hair down to his show.
I mean, it was awesome.
Really, really.
I mean, you got like,
I got to give Ricky a ton of credit.
He's growing the hair out again.
And what does like, like PC Oakley's.
I mean, he's committed to that look and I like it.
Yeah.
Honestly, his, he's got a Joe Dirt vibe going.
I know.
And I think at his age, I'm like, dude, fuck.
Yeah, man.
Like, you know, keep it going.
Yeah, here's Higgo.
There's outrageous.
Yeah.
So good.
So anyway, a lot of, it just feels like lettuce is back on the PGA tour coming out the back of the hat.
And I'm, I'm going to keep doing my research on a power.
Yeah.
Honestly, I was in the merch tent today.
Puma.
They had two of my favorite shirts in there.
Puma and Adidas, both of them.
They had some fresh stuff.
H&B had a clean,
clean print polo in there with Gold Boy.
Sunrise Surf Shop, local joint.
They had stuff in there.
Oh, I love that.
I went in there thinking that there was going to be so much,
like, just reprehensible, like, horror show stuff.
It was fine.
There was like so much tasteful, good stuff.
Virtually no big letter hats.
There was some,
there was some upside down.
My husband was going to say that.
Yeah,
it sold out.
So we did a little,
a little,
you know,
social thing that we'll put out later this week.
But, um,
but yeah.
And then,
you know,
things that are sick.
I'm not going to name names,
but this is,
you know,
this has been kind of the talk of,
of sawgrass the last couple days.
One of the agents went absolutely apes shit in the agent meeting the other night.
Like, just, it was like just about 20 minute.
Oh, just like how the new structures bullshit.
They're lying through their teeth and all this stuff.
And I mean, they had to take it into a separate room, a back room.
Couldn't have been Seps agent.
And in the land of mules, the oaks is king.
Yeah, it was certainly not Seps agents.
Oh, man.
Yeah.
I'm sure we'll get a full,
you know, another full helping
of mule droppings from
from Rourkeye's shoe bag.
I was going to say, I haven't
seen too much like player reaction kind of
coming from all the, uh, the roll-app stuff.
But usually that has a,
a delayed tale.
Usually, it usually takes a couple days before everybody kind of
settles in and let's it fly.
What would the, what would it be?
What's the, what's the case against this plan?
I think the charity thing is probably a, that's, that's a looming question.
I think. I appreciated shoe pack asking that yesterday.
Especially with like championship management taking over more events.
You know, there's there's just like that's not a local horse somewhere.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, totally.
And like, all right, either you're going to have this big TV deal and these tournaments continue and you're going to raise a bunch of money or like this thing just kind of withers away.
It dies a little bit, right?
Yeah.
I guess sell it's like, I don't know if it's those people from the from 121 to.
160 who are just like why are you putting me back on the corn fairy tour type of a which i don't
think is the case no it's not if anything the track the second track if you think about it all right
how many guys if guys are playing if the top say 80 guys are playing 20 times a year or you know 18
or 16 times a year in what we're calling signature events or track one events or whatever
that means that like a bunch of corn fairy tour guys are going to have to fill out
those track two events.
Like, if anything, it brings guys up to that second level
and kind of blends the second level and the third level together
more than what they currently have.
I agree.
Yeah, I'm just trying to think of holes.
I don't know.
Because it's like you walk the length of the range of the players
and you get to like, again, I don't need to pick out names here,
but I'm going to the bottom of the board this week.
Like we have Chandler Phillips, Jordan Smith,
Join me, so I. Vince Whaley, you know, like the field is 120 people is a big ass field, right?
And if you're, that's a, that's a lot of people getting into those massive events that they're talking about.
And below that, you're still probably going to play for like $8 to $10 million in those tournaments below that.
I would imagine. Like that'll be the, that'll be the question mark, I guess, is if that's actually feasible to do or if those persons just take a big.
Can you keep John Deere paying that money on the second track?
That's an unanswered question for me.
I mean, as well, right now, there's no openings and all the fall guys pay around that for
for fall series events that don't get any of the top guys.
They just signed up this new North Carolina, like this Asheville event.
There's, there's, you know, there's the new good, good championship.
Like, those are all locked in at like the going rate.
Yeah.
For, at least for fall season.
Well, I think we're going to have a lot more to talk about on that, on that front.
But guys, I think we call it there.
I think we keep it nice and nice and tight.
What do you, what do you think?
think.
Neil,
120, nice and tight.
Great list of,
great list of things
that are sick.
I think you might need
to keep that the observations
going.
I had a blast.
Listen to those.
Boys,
you guys are going to be out there
tomorrow?
What's the rest of your week
look like?
I'll be out there tomorrow.
I'm taking,
I'm taking the Fredman,
the great man,
Freddie out,
out tomorrow.
And he wants to follow
Ludwig and Tommy.
They're in back-to-back
groups,
I think.
So we're set up for success
on that front.
It should be an awesome.
Hey,
is tacos on 12 still a thing?
That's a good question.
I know ABB Hughes got, yeah, I didn't go to 12 today.
I got to shout out the media center dining today.
They had barbacoa, tacos, and chicken tinga.
Unbelievable.
It was one of the best meals I've ever had in that media dining.
They normally do a good job.
You know, they're pulling good coffee shots in there too.
I mean, it's just a flamingo coffee.
SIG money.
Not raining in my house.
It's not going to my age.
Last thing.

I'm getting the wife out in the golf course tomorrow.
So I might have a couple marks during the day.
So I'm going to carry me tomorrow night, Neil.
Get a little loose.
I'm looking for the recap and at the cut.
Scouts on her.
I got you tomorrow night.
Guys, two questions.
Two questions.
What is Scotty?
What is Scotty at in the field tomorrow?
Like, is he in the top 20?
He's in the top 15.
He's the top 20, I think so.
Yeah, what is it?
He's at T's T's T40 right now.
Yeah, he might just cruise to like the easiest.
He really fly back in the world.
If he can get the driver figured out.
That was one stat I had in my chamber that he lost strokes off the T today,
which he has not done in a round of golf since like, uh, pro core last year.
Like it's, that's right.
And he won.
Annie, any, any lost.
Uh, he did.
Yeah, he did.
I did when that way.
Annie lost strokes chipping, which he also doesn't usually do.
So again, it's like either these weird trends, white squalls are going to continue or he's going to get it figured out, which.
And how fun would that be if all of a sudden the great white sharks just, you know, lurking down there on the leaderboard just on the second page, that's good stuff.
Not a question, not a question, but per our dude conversation, you know, earlier on in the week.
Chris Goderup minus
one today. Big par putt at the last.
Don't know why we didn't bring him up.
Big day tomorrow.
I want to see Chris Goddraup insert himself into this thing.
Would love it.
Solidify himself as a capital D dude.
Nothing would make me happier.
Well, guys, this was a delightful one.
