Be the right club.
Be the right club today.
Johnny, that's better than most.
How about him?
That is better than most.
Better than most.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the Nolangup podcast, the Nolingup Live show.
What a day, guys.
We got history to talk about today from Augusta National.
My name is DJ, joined by my friends and associates.
Chris Sully Solomon from Augusta National.
Sali, how are you?
I'm great. There's a little more getable out there. I didn't wear myself out. We almost lost it on Thursday,
but we're still in the tournament here Friday evening, Friday afternoon. A lot to get to tonight.
Maybe some special guests popping in here very early in the show. If everybody behaves in the chat,
maybe we'll speak with one of our favorite pepaws here very soon.
Randy, how are you, my man? Favorite pin of the year on 16? I know you love that. How are you?
Dege, we'll get into it. I'm good. I'm happy to be here.
here. I'm happy to discuss today. Thank you for having me on your program. Anytime. Before we get to it,
guys, I think if there's one shot, you really need to trust your golf ball out, out, you know,
at the tournament we watch today. I think it's the shot of number 15. And I'm going to give a shout
out to our guy, Max Homa. And the way he and his ProV1X interacted on that second shot was just
excellent. Our guy had a great day today. He had a really nice little high, soft floater.
in there from about 2.13.
Sali, I don't think that's an easy shot to,
to commit to and hit.
Every time I look back in that fairway, I'm like, okay, that's a layup spot.
And then just watching these guys launch it onto this thin little peninsula.
And to watch that ball come straight down the chimney,
laying as soft as it did, two put birdie for him.
I am amazed at how guys control their distance on that shot on 12,
on so many of the shots that had got said.
But that one definitely stood out for me today.
Yeah, Max, of course, trusting his title is ProVU1 X golf.
Well, as do we, the presenting sponsor of this here live.
show. Thank you to our friends at Titleist.
Go find out what golf ball is best
for you at Titleist.com.
Folks, Rory McElroy is your leader
by six shots at the Masters tournament.
We're going to talk about that is the largest
36 whole lead in Masters history.
Relevant, we're going to talk about that.
Before we do, let's bring in a guy that was also
there today. Sully, I think you're superseded
by this guy. I know you were there, but I want to hear what this guy
has to say. That's of course our old friend Scott Van Pelt.
Scott, how are you?
I'm amazed at what we just witnessed it.
That was just outrageous.
It was outrageous.
That's a good word for it.
Let me start with this.
What's your favorite thing you saw today?
I mean, I was curious, like everyone with Rory, you know, what is this?
Is it a finish line?
Is he out of gas or is he truly reached the no one has anything to threaten me with anywhere?
And it appears it's the ladder, right?
I mean, you, you, I was on PTI earlier this week and Wilbon asked me, what do you expect?
And I said, look, I don't know.
I truly don't.
And I think there's clearly a big difference between chasing and raining and as a raining champ.
He just can let it rip.
I just, I can't figure out as I was piecing it together.
Like, he's out of position over and over again.
He's in the trees on 13.
He's in the trees on 15.
He's in the trees on 17.
and the good drive he had on 14, he had a crummy wedge, and that was the one hole he didn't
birdie.
I mean, just an astounding finish.
And what is?
I mean, up six, it's not over.
I'm not going to do.
I mean, we've seen too many of these to know that it isn't, but just sick, sick, sick stuff.
Reverse, grotesque.
You beat me to that question there.
Is it over?
And I'm not ready to do the crowning thing yet.
I guess that comes just a little bit of seasoning of the Masters.
You know,
we,
well,
another favorite of ours once took up six shot leading the back nine on Sunday.
And I don't believe that worked out that,
that great for him.
But I guess was he,
where were you coming into this?
Was it like,
were you on team?
Like,
I think he's freed up.
I think this is like the,
the lid is off.
And I think he's about like what,
it doesn't even seem like his,
is,
he's ever voiced the motivation to be a multiple time master's champion.
Right.
And it feels like,
I don't know.
I,
that felt too convenient to me to buy into the,
freed up narrative and now we watch it i'm kind of i'm kind of i'm maybe i'm maybe i can get there
a lot faster than i thought i could do we lose audio you might be on mute are you on mute
it doesn't show mute oh randy might have lost our guy yeah we might have just we might just
lost it and well hey that's okay that's all right live tv nobody knows live tv more than more than
scott van pelt we know that well it's good to see you even for a short time enjoy wherever you're
I know you're off to dinner anyways.
We appreciate you.
Yeah, we look forward to watching it all week.
Scott, thumbs up or thumbs down?
Rory is putting on the green jacket Sunday evening.
That's a resounding thumbs up.
We'll see you soon.
That's live TV for it.
That was completely unplanned.
That happened five minutes before we went to go here.
But we appreciate that was not on our end, guys.
Sorry.
I just thought not noted.
Appreciate SVP coming through, though.
Let's go back to the top of the order.
We mentioned some of the kind of X's and O's here,
but Rory was leading coming into the day,
goes out and shoots the low round of the day.
You know, we always love when someone does that.
He is leading by six.
It is the largest 36-hole lead in Master's history.
Got off to an absolutely blistering start.
Almost reminded me of Saturday of last year.
Bertie's two, birdies three,
birdies four like a downhill kind of curler on four uh slowed down a little bit by a bogey from the
fairway on five and then just goes i would say ape shit is the word that that comes to mind for me
on on the back nine the second nine uh six birdies after a bogey on ten from the fairway which
was kind of a strange one in and in and of itself but birdie's 10 birdie's 13 birdie's 15 birdie's
16 chips in for birdie on 17 just the drippiest like of course that's in off the face
type of chip there on 17 and then stuff's one on 18 and makes another birdie to shoot 65
low round of the day uh solie what i don't know we were you were kind of ping ponging it back
and forth with with peepa there dancing and around it but uh is is it over where are you at
on this you don't want to say or you don't want to be wrong you don't want to where are you at here
because i kind of i think it's over i'll go say it
That's fine. You're free to say whatever you like. We've seen enough of these tournaments over the years. We've seen 96. We've seen 2016. It's a long tournament. We said this is the players too. I feel like these are the two tournaments that are the longest. I mean, a guy. Cameron Young looked like he was completely out of it until he goes on a hot tear this afternoon. A triple bogey could happen very easily for Rory. Tomorrow it could happen on Sunday. There's just a lot of consequence and a lot of golf shots remaining. The setup was softer today. It was a little bit more gentle.
but it is not a everybody pass go collect $200 like you still got to execute we saw bryson mess it up
on the way in we saw a achshay struggle a lot we saw a lot of guys struggle out there as well it's not
it's not a cinch and it's not going to be set up any easier than it was today so that's all to say
lord willing that's all to say it's impossible to set it up you still got it he's got to hit a lot more
shots it is overwhelmingly you know he's going to be an odds on favorite to win the championship i
I still think that he will, but it is not over.
We have seen things flip way too quick.
I mean, at one point, he was tied with Patrick Reed on the back nine today and then left it, you know, leading by six shots.
Like a lot can change in just nine holes, much less 36 holes in this golf course.
And I don't feel that way about every golf course.
If this was the RBC Canadian Open, I think we'd all be saying night night right now.
Randy, where are you at?
You want to give me the case that it is over?
Any lasting kind of big takeaways?
What springs to mind for you?
I think it's smart to say it's not over.
I think that's the responsible thing to say.
It feels over to me.
I don't, I mean, six shots.
Two guys have had five shot leads at this point.
Sheffler won by three strokes,
Speeth won by four strokes.
You know, there is the Greg Norman,
was up four after 36 holes.
and lost by five.
I just, I don't see that, Dege.
Listen, you got to have a combination of skill and a little bit of luck to win around here.
I think particularly, you know, I would like to talk about the overall setup,
but I will just note, like, at the end of the day, and Rory being in one of the last groups
today, the golf course, I mean, Data Golf just posted something.
And this golf course got a whole heck of a lot easier, relatively speaking, in the last 90 minutes to two hours of play today.
And credit to Rory, he took full advantage of that.
Still had to hit the shots, still had to make the putts.
I don't begrudge him that.
I think it's just a mixture of, hey, he ended up having a great tea time based on what the conditions ended up being.
He took advantage and he set himself up beautifully for this weekend.
And I think it'll get a little bit closer.
You know, I don't think he's going to keep extending,
but I would be pretty shocked if he's not putting on the jacket Sunday.
I just feel like after last year, getting the scar tissue cleared out,
I don't really foresee something happening where he's not our winner.
What do you think, Dej?
I think it's over.
I think he's going to win.
I think that for a couple of reasons.
And of course, like everything you said is true.
Of course, people have blown big leads.
Of course, people can make back nine charges.
All of those things can happen.
But I am going to hitch my wagon to the guy's not even driving it good.
And he's driven it good for the last 20 years.
And I think he's going to figure that out over the last 36 holes.
And I think he is, I just love it.
I love everything he's saying, man.
I think a lot of where that nervy meltdown stuff came from,
last year. Like, I think he's been very open about where that came from. And I think it does. The
freed up narrative is easy, but sometimes the narratives are right. You know, and I think he's talked
about it a lot where it's like, I drove it in the trees. Oh, that's okay. We'll figure, we'll go figure
out. He just looks a little bit more like he's playing, uh, like this cool combination of very patient
and also your Rory Falcon McElroy that we, that we used to see. And I think like, I don't know. I mean,
he talked about how not only has his iron play been really good,
not only is he played really smart golf like he's shipping the lights out,
not just a shot on 17.
He's just like getting up and down when he needs to get up and down.
He's playing.
He's just playing the exact way you're supposed to play the golf course.
He's wrecking the par fives.
He's missing in the right spots.
He's doing all the cliches.
And maybe it'll hit him on Sunday like, oh, holy shit,
this is the masters and maybe I can, you know,
oh my God, is this too big?
And I'm going to, you know, kind of dip another wedge into the tributary.
But I just don't think that's the guy that we've seen, man.
I think he is very comfortable front running.
I just think he exercised a lot of what was holding them back last year.
And I mean, at this point, like I hope it's close.
I hope it's interesting.
I hope it's fun.
But like I said yesterday, I mean, I think the only thing that's more fun than one Rory
Masters win is too Rory Masters wins.
You know, so it's I think he sealed it today is how I feel.
And I'll just add, you know, you look at the guys closest to him, like Patrick Reed's a little bit, the wild card.
He, who knows, right?
But other than that, there aren't, you know, I know he dueled with the great man Justin Rose last year.
But there aren't got, it's not like Schephler sitting there at six under, right?
Like best player in the world.
I'm not sure there's anybody that necessarily would strike fear or should strike fear into Rory looking over his
shoulder at that point at this point either so i rose like rose looks very comfortable and but
kind of balky with the potter i i don't i i where i struggle i mean the guy had a four-shot lead
with like seven holes to play last year and he's got a six shot lead with 36 holes to play and
he had to work to get into a playoff last like it just those are like two different human beings man
completely different yeah you say that now but like what if it starts to slip away a little bit of
panic slips in. Like, I don't, I'd be surprised, but I'm just like, we literally saw this guy give
it away last year. And I get that like the second one is different than the first one. But,
like I said, I just would feel different if it was a different golf course. I will say there was a
moment. I watched a lot of shots of the 12 this week. And I picked him up around that stretch
here this afternoon. And he was going second, I think, on 12, somebody, maybe even 30. I know he was not.
I know he was not first.
And it was his turn.
And, like, there was commotion from the most recent shot.
And there was kind of somebody laughing pretty close to the T.
And then somebody dropped something on like a grate, like to the right of the T as in a spot in his swing where it would have been distracting as in like, well, you know, not at the very top like on the way back.
And like maybe I could have backed off of it.
And there was zero hesitation.
And there was a level of commitment and compression in that golf shot that was just like, ooh, that came off differently than.
everyone else. And again, through the lens of like what the stats we went over on Wednesday of how well he plays that 12th hole and how like automatic that shot feels for him in particular, a potential spot he could have messed up this tournament. And he just hits it right on the green and makes birdie. And it's a fantastic shot in there and makes birdie. It's a great, great, great Friday shot. I don't know, guy. I am super, super keen to see a Rory with a massive lead to sleep on for a long time. It's a long way to go. Like six shot lead tomorrow night. I think,
we could all say night night but six like it's just going to be a really long 48 hours i don't care
if you feel freed up uh there's just something unbelievably big about this golf tournament and i don't know
it's impossible for him to not picture himself but putting the green jacket on himself or fred really
putting the green jacket on him now like it's just going to be unavoidable from here on out and there's
just such a long ways to go that it's going to be theater i really do think it's going to be
theater. I'd be stunned if there wasn't any moment of drama remaining for the rest this weekend.
I totally agree. There's a little bit of a Rider Cup singles sort of situation where at some point
it's going to feel closer than it is. But then I, again, I might be totally wrong. Who knows? Maybe
he goes and shoot 75 tomorrow. But it's, I think as the course, you know, if it does ramp back up,
and again, we'll get to some of the like set up today stuff. That's where I'm like, well, he's still the best other
than maybe Scotty, not maybe other than Scottie.
I mean, he's also the best like firm and fast golf course player in the world over the last
couple years.
He's shown that at the, I think he's shown that at the US opens.
He's shown that at like, who's better other than Scott.
I don't know.
We've called him like the guy that loves the rain forever.
I don't know if he's fully.
Yeah, until 2020, 23, 2022, when it's like, oh, yo, this is a different player.
Guy is playing way more patient golf.
He's playing to the smart spot.
And now he's playing in like at this tournament where it's like all you need is expertise.
Expertise, expertise, expertise.
He's playing in what?
Like is the 15th Masters or something like that?
And it's just, I don't know.
I think there's a lot of combinations of stuff.
I loved what he said to Michael Eves afterwards is, man, look at every,
paraphrasing, look at everything that I've been through at this golf tournament.
Like nobody needs to tell me like, hey, just so you know, stay in your process and don't change.
Like, yeah, I know how all the different.
ways this movie ends.
Like, I just feel, I don't know, you look at some of those collapses and it's like Norman,
like Norman had never won one.
That's like the whole point.
Spieth had never gone through any kind of like scar tissue situation.
It was always just like, oh, I'll just kind of keep firing and it's going to work out.
You know, I just think this is very different.
And I'm happy to, happy to be wrong and I hope it's close and it's a really fun Sunday.
I don't disagree that this is different.
This is a different scenario.
I just, it, I would feel differently if this was Scotty sitting here.
I can confidently say, like when Pete Scottie gets a six-shot lead at the halfway point,
I feel like you could say night-night.
But Rory takes us on an emotional, if anything we've learned from Rory,
it's going to be an emotional journey.
Okay, let's click into that too, because other than last year,
which, you know, again, he's dumping the wedges, he's making bad decisions,
he's missing short, but like, he's doing a lot of the like, oh, my God,
that guy's squeezing the bat way too.
tight type of stuff.
If you look at what he's not doing well right now,
he's not driving it well.
It's like, okay, well, he happens to be at the one golf course
on the PJ tour where you can get away with not driving it well
as he's just taking a six shot lead.
So I don't know.
That's just, it's another like, I feel like I'm putting that in my pile too of like
even the thing that he's allowed to not do well is the thing that he's not
doing well.
And I'd say he's only not driving it well weirdly on the par fives.
You know, the driver on the par fours is very good.
Yeah, and he's been purtying all the par fives from a lot of interesting places.
Yeah, I just failed to see, God, that wedge last year into 13 when they replayed it.
I was like, oh my God, that actually did happen.
I just can't, yeah, I just can't envision a world where we get that type of meltdown now.
It just doesn't seem possible, but I guess that's why they play the game.
It's why they took the words out of my mouth thing.
That is why they play the games.
Well, I think Rory undoubtedly the story of the day, Big, where you want to go next for kind of your second story of the day?
Well, I mean, can we talk about the setup?
I don't want to turn this into just a bitch fest, but I was very disappointed by the overall setup today.
I think that was a huge story.
and I just want to talk about why I didn't like it,
and I'm curious if you guys did.
I mean, they put a lot of water on the greens.
And you can tell me why, and I'm sure they're good reasons and this and that.
But genuinely, when I came in yesterday's show,
the way the golf course was playing had me excited, had me giddy.
I was talking about, you know, balls trickling and getting
into spots and the nervousness and the anxiety about where that ball was finishing was alive
and well yesterday. And today I just thought it was soft. It just robbed a lot of what I love
about yesterday specifically. It robbed a lot of, quite honestly, like the shot value into a lot
of these holes. I think, listen, if Rory shoots a 65 in very difficult conditions, like,
I just have a much greater appreciation.
And I thought today, everything was dumbed down.
Yesterday felt like a true, true, true test.
And today felt like, you know, a multiple choice exam, maybe even open book.
Maybe people using Claude, there's all kinds of stuff going on.
Yeah.
It just, I don't know.
If you like that type of golf, great.
If you had a great time today, that's great.
I have to speak my truth.
I thought after what we saw yesterday, I thought,
today was a big, big step back and I was very disappointed.
A couple quick things. It did play about two shots easier today, just kind of course,
you know, scoring average by the numbers. Randy, we do need to talk about the PTI, the proper
test index. Yesterday we were at nearly unprecedented two with 10 rounds in the 80s, five rounds
in the 60s. Today I think we're like, there were like two rounds in the 80s and 20 rounds
in the 60s or something like that.
It's just we straight from the light.
The PTI doesn't lie. The PTI does not lie.
We've strayed from the light in a big, big way.
Yesterday, 15 was playing over par.
I think you could point to that as a pretty key indicator
and performance metric about how giddy it was to just watch the broadcast.
We were back under par on 15 today.
19 birdies versus 12 bogeys on 15 today.
So I just wanted to get those in there.
What were your thoughts here?
I know we're going to talk coverage later, like the television coverage,
but I came in from the golf course, saw all you guys just causing a hissy fit about the golf course.
And I was just like, whoa.
Prieta messages.
And I won't expose them.
I was like, whoa, okay.
I just, that was not my experience out on the golf course.
And again, I don't know what was seen on TV, you know, but I, I guess I saw enough bad golf shots out there.
I saw enough guys getting exposed, most of them were from Akshay, sorry to.
call it out but uh enough like parallel play of hey here's how you execute on this hole and if you
fall out of position i watch a lot of speed today i watched a lot of scotty today in person and maybe i
just picked guys that weren't playing well but it was like man when they made mistakes when they
didn't execute the shots they were needed like they there was no easy birdies to be had from
from either of those guys today like they really struggled they got behind the eight ball and
and maybe just jordan also did he like putt left-handed or something i don't know what happened
with his putter today because he did have a lot of looks and just fucking missed all of them
looks, yeah, very, very bad on the green.
But also they slowed down, oh, we'll talk about it.
They slowed down the greens.
And that was no Vax whole thing was three-puttick.
And how slow the greens were.
And it's just big,
except for the afternoon guys who then could see how slow they were and then went out
and just raked.
I feel like the take has been like,
but they needed to have the green slower and then put pins on harder slopes,
which is like I did, the putts didn't look,
putting didn't look easy today.
It looked like guys were absolutely flummoxed throughout the entire day.
And yeah,
you're going to get some of these like,
bowlish funnelish pins at the bottom but like a huge takeaway from those is like those puts are all really
hard like the putts on 16 unless you stuff it on 16 it is very it's difficult to make the birdie putt
six i thought was going to be a lot easier pin today than it actually ended up being because it kind
of sat like it was just hard to access it you could get in that bowl but you're going to be above it
where the putts were just really difficult i watch a lot of groups come through six and not
make putts there i it did get like it looked like it turned into a turkey shoot there at the
very end of the day, which I was kind of, I was on the way back and I didn't get to see a lot of that in
person. But I, again, I was just like, I, I was rooting hard for Scotty and rooting hard for
Jordan as I was following them and not seeing the easiness out of what was happening right there.
But, and that's where I'm just like, I'm curious. I know the, the coverage can turn into a bit of
highlights and Bertie here and let's watch, all right, let's go over to say, I got guys were
the guys I saw play 16 day were struggling. Like, I, I don't know what the,
No one at my house.
Percent.
Well,
like I feel like I saw three of nine guys that I saw play 16 today.
Get it actually in that strip.
The rest,
I saw Big Shot Bob explode.
He hit one where he hit in the water.
That was awesome.
That was sick.
Tommy hit one,
uh,
up on top.
JT missed right of the green when I was there.
Like it was,
uh,
it was not a gimmy shot.
Then I watched Reed just hit like a lower shot than everybody else hit.
Enough rights left on it.
I'm like,
oh,
that's guaranteed to take the slope as soon as that lands.
And it ends up,
you know,
in a really good spot.
It just, I, it was easier.
And August has never, like, I do not think they care about making it a super hard test.
I don't think they care a ton about the scores.
They can make the pins more challenging than this.
There's harder spots on all the greens, but they're going to put,
they're going to use that, they use that spot one of the rounds every year on 16.
They're going to put one back right on three.
That's one of the easiest spots on three.
It was a pretty accessible spot on nine as well.
I'm guessing they're going all the way back on nine tomorrow.
It was in a little easier spot today on 18.
they always use that front right hole location.
Maybe they just used more hard hole locations yesterday on top of that.
But yeah, there were some more opportunities for Bertie.
I tweeted this out this morning.
I was like, I would expect the scoring average to be around 73 with a lot of these easier
hole locations.
So it ended up being extremely close to that.
And I just didn't think the conditions were drastically like created a pillow fight.
There's one guy lower than minus six right now, which without win today,
it seems quite reasonable.
I know what you like, Randy.
I'm not going to tell you what to what to like and what not to.
And I know you want it harder than this.
I don't know enough about agronomy to say like that.
They messed this up because they've two 85 degree days to come.
And I know there's management from people a lot smarter than me that go into the golf course.
I just don't know.
Like we just saw so many squirrely shots yesterday from spots where like I had a
on a day like today, you just don't see that same squirreliness, right?
Like there was a real threat of chipping back in the water on 15.
We saw Ludwig chip it off 13 into the water.
You know, like there just wasn't.
Every shot into 15 felt consequential yesterday.
Yeah.
Like a lot more, a lot more guys were just kind of hitting it high and soft and landing on the green.
So I'll grant, perhaps, you know, there's some of this that has to do with where they cut
the pins today, but I just, I don't know. I saw too many guys coming off the course just being
pretty surprised by how soft it was. And I think had it been this way yesterday, I wouldn't be
nearly as frustrated as I am right now. But based on what we saw yesterday, I thought,
hey, this is the tournament we're getting. You know, we talked about like the vintage. I love this
vintage that we've uncorked for this year, right? Let's let's make it firm. Let's make it fast.
Let's make it a more difficult test. Sign me the fuck up for that. And, you know, today, it,
we just took a big step back. And I, I guess I'm really frustrated by like Jeff Yang's decision.
Like, it just felt unnecessary. It felt unforced. And I don't know why, I don't know why we had to do that.
And it's like, oh, maybe they'll ramp it back up this weekend. It's like, okay, well, great. But,
I don't know.
What was the point of it today?
I don't get it.
Yeah.
That's where I throw up the same caution flag that Sully did is like if it's heat coming in
and it's something that they need to prepare for, then, you know, I'm not privy to that
or how that works.
It's just as it's hard when you see, man, you see yesterday and you see today and you see
nothing really changing in between those two days except for the scoring average.
Because I'm like, oh, well, that's, yeah, I don't know.
Yesterday was an A.
and I felt like today was kind of a C, you know, other than...
Very average.
Other than Rory.
And it was kind of one of those that's like, well, glad it was Rory.
The Rory highlights down the stretch, like, obviously became the story of the day.
But I thought it was a very middling Masters Friday, quite honestly.
Sorry, I'm battling a fuse that keeps flipping over here.
But so I'm in a duck in the conversation.
Beluga's drying his hair.
He's got his hair drying.
Big, outside of what you were told, you mentioned like the vintage.
I don't know if Augusta National, like, it's almost impossible, I think, for them to get a golf course to the level that you are expecting.
I know this is the line.
We saw it.
We saw it yesterday.
It's not.
It's not impossible.
That's not sustainable for six days, though.
Why?
Because it's over-
It's over-seated grass, man.
Rye is dying.
They're trying to keep as much.
much rye on top of the Bermuda as they possibly can, which there's an argument to have there.
But like, it's just been so hot and they haven't had enough rain.
Okay.
I mean, sure.
We got to protect it.
Tons of member play coming up.
It's going to be open all summer.
Like, this is where I'm like.
It's not open all summer.
No, I know.
That's the point.
I just don't understand why we can't push the goal.
I mean, I guess why did we have it like we did yesterday?
then. And why did it fluctuate so greatly between rounds one and two?
I'm guessing because they look at the forecast and they're like,
holy shit, this weekend's going to be hot as hell.
But they would have known that Wednesday.
I mean, again, it's above my pay grade.
I don't know what the, they measure the soil.
Nobody does this more intensely than Augusta does.
This is where I'm just kind of like, I have to, I have to lean on the fact that they probably
know what they're doing and probably know how to pace it out.
honestly they're writing their own story they can do whatever the fuck they want to do of course they can sure and i can
which is almost i would say yeah that's almost i feel like you could kind of see the seams on that today
where it's like as much as you heard every single person on the property walk off Wednesday
Thursday being like they have it exactly where they want it they can do anything with this golf course
but now they're graham's right after a day hit the brakes today
like why okay well that that kind of stinks so i mean there's there's the rye is dying off around a lot of the
greens like the yellow the 11th green already looked discolored like it looks it has like a brown
purplish tent to it there in person i went back and watched like the the footage on masters dot com
it does not look like it from that angle but i was out there like man it already looks discolored
in a lot of these places the bank on 15 like going down into the water and there in all the
surrounding areas around 15 you can see bermuda popping out in all those spots that's different
even from yesterday.
Like again,
I don't,
I don't know how to maintain grass 365 days a year.
Cody might probably knows more about this than I do.
Hell no.
I have no clue.
I just know that I looked at the forecast.
I'm like,
wow,
it's going to be hot.
I'm sure they're like,
how do we keep these playing conditions to peak on Sunday?
Well,
if it gets too hot,
guys,
you might want to grab an ice cold high noon.

guys i've been talking a lot about what's going on on the grounds uh we had another guy that was out
there on the grounds today i did two more guys i know neal was out there obviously as well but i think
we got a report from from somebody else, Cody, that was that was maybe out there today as well.
A legion of speech and synths offers all they can to the golf gods. Can they will their beautiful
boy back to relevance? If you listen closely, you'll hear it. The murmurs, the mantra, the prayers.
He's close. He's close. As he makes yet another difficult paw. Can the young father defeat
a decade of demons and summon the kid back to life for just this one week at April?
who can say
spiel suster live from augustra national
what a what a thrill to have that reporting on the ground from our guy spiel schuster
now joining us neil schuster uh torus yeah how we how we doing neil uh good i miss a lot of the
actions i was in an opium den all morning i've been recovering from that uh i mean they need
to throw in a highly addictive label on a spith pairing on the t-sheet uh randy i haven't
I haven't followed Spieth in years, truly years.
You know, we saw him at Pebble,
but I haven't watched him play competitive golf up close in a long time.
And I can't confirm he's close.
But close, you know, looks like he needs a pop on 18 from Rose and Brooks.
They were just in another league today.
So it was a fascinating group to watch.
It was very intense golf.
Rose and Brooks were super duper impressive.
But I just kind of want to walk you through a couple shots here.
just how close Jordan is.
Can I,
hold up.
Before we,
before we do that,
let me talk about the other two guys
who are,
please,
a little more relevant in this tournament.
I had notes on them too.
Starting with Justin Rose
shot 69 today,
70,
669 for the great man,
the runner up last year,
Justin Rose.
Ball struck his face off today,
which I'm sure Neil's about to tell us about.
A little leaky with the putter at times,
but man,
he had an awesome run in the middle of that round
where he was just flagging it,
seven,
nine,
10, 11,
birdies all of those.
gets a little heat check on 12 flying that green
and then making a bogey there to kind of
come back to the land of the living
but far and away,
best day on the course from a strokes gained approach perspective
by nearly two shots over second place.
It was so professional, DJ.
It was so,
and he's just feeding off the crowd.
He's become a crowd favorite.
The people love him.
They love him.
Rosie, oh my God,
he's just getting them all going.
And my favorite thing,
he has ILS, Invisible LAT syndrome.
If you watch Rosie walk around,
he gets a little bit of this going when he's feeling himself.
He starts walking a little Vince McNanny.
I mean, he's got just that villain.
It's good stuff.
And the difference,
I'll give you tons of speed stuff if you want it.
But Rose, he had a knack today.
He was a little scrappy, especially early.
Right off the first tee, he was right.
But he has a knack for seizing opportunities.
He just like gets in position.
and he goes. He doesn't hesitate.
And, you know, he was out of position a few times, but he's just a true pro.
It was really fun to watch.
He takes like four or five minutes before he decides what he's going to do,
and then he doesn't hesitate.
That's fair.
He's very slow.
And that was actually pissing off Brooks.
I could tell he was getting a little impatient with him.
The shot on one was awesome.
I'm fully with you, though, on the, like, I don't know if anybody's hitting,
other than maybe Rory, as we were talking about that back night.
I don't know if anybody's hitting more committed golf shots.
than Justin Rose, you know, and it's, it's very, very fun to, to watch.
Neil, real quick, if I may, I, I, I hear you talking about the, the pomp, the bombast from,
from the great man, Justin Rose. How would it compare? I'm, I'm really excited with the thought
that Rose, you, you watch Colin Montgomery, you knew what Colin was about out there on the golf course.
How does roses just actions and temperaments compare to the great man call in Montgomery?
He's much more engaged.
He's much more engaged and aware.
He's an up and out guy, Randy.
And I felt like Monty was a leave me alone.
You know, like what are they done here?
They both are very.
Monty was aware, but he was just he couldn't believe.
But it was, it was.
Don't be a bother.
Like, keep those hands low and still, Marshall.
He was looking for a reason to call people out.
He was grieved.
Good example.
today, Rose hit a great chip, or a great bunker shot out of the front bunker, made the putt.
And he turns around and he hit, he hit just like a very dramatic like, oh, like,
you know, like, and just, oh, you know, like, and just, and people, they just lap it up.
They lap it up, you know, it's like, he's playing to the people.
He is.
He's a thesbian, Randy.
He turned into a thesbian.
And this might be new, you know, like, I was not a Justin Ramos.
Rose fan, but I'm like, oh, he's so chummy.
But it is. It's like stage acting.
It's like it's not real.
You know, it's like he's just playing
a part and he's very good at it.
It's really something. Isn't it wild
to think that like, I mean, what we're,
all of us, I believe, rooting for last year was like,
oh, not Rose over Rory. We cannot do this.
No way. Carl Tavington.
Kill me before the wall. It's over, will you?
You know, it's, and he still is. He's still kind of a villain,
but he's like one that you really appreciate.
And then this year, it might be kind of like,
I kind of want to.
Roy's guy is Greenjack.
I kind of would love to see Rose like hunt him down.
Like that would be great theater.
I kind of feel for the dude having lost twice in a playoff.
Like that's a flipping of the script that I could not have pictured happened.
It's like truly you, you know, live long enough to be the hero.
You become the villain.
It's almost the other way around with Rosen with P.
It's like, man.
This is good stuff.
He's so greasy.
They forgive you for that.
We're over that.
Like I see P coming down 11 today.
I'm like, oh, there he is, man.
I'm like firing up this team.
He's in all black.
He's just looking like a little grease.
ball it's rolling down the hill it feels a little bit like the Sergio year also over justin rose
but you know where it's kind of like oh god Sergio can have one come on this would be fun
you know yeah yeah uh all right dude I want to test one out on you I was workshopping this out there
all right could be a jack reacher here but I was trying to think of a music comp for Justin rose
and I was I was walking up 14 just kind of mulling it over and I came up with Bruce Bruce Springsteen
So stick with me here.
I know you're like,
oh, what are you talking about?
Jersey.
But you got to flip it.
Longevity, distinct cultural identity.
Very, very, like, dedicated.
Like, the songs are very regimented.
And I feel like Rose is very regimented.
They're not the most talented, you know, as far as golf and I would say guitar with
with Springsteen.
But a lot of discipline works his ass off.
They both have large teams that they've leaned on for years.
I mean, there's something there, right?
The East Street band's got like 40 people.
I think you're closer than, closer than it seems, but very far off.
I think Bruce is the, he's the poet of the working man.
He's the like, I think he's Billy Joel.
I told you.
I think he's, I was going to guess.
Unbelievable uncool, but very popular.
I think he's very safe, but also a little dark.
If you kind of look at it and massive staying power.
Phil Collins, that's actually, I like that a lot.
My Pete Phil Collins.
Yeah, what else you got in those notes?
Yeah.
No, I'm glad I brought it up, though.
It was a good, like, I'm out there alone just kind of thinking about this.
And the best I could come up was the boss, you know?
And I'm like, now I'm like, no, it's a bad take.
So thank you.
This is good.
What's workshop here?
Who are you?
Neil, I don't mean to put you out the spot, but obviously the once proprietor of the block party.
Sure.
I mean, Rory's leading by six.
Who would you rather see win a green jacket this year?
Rose or Rory win another one?
I don't know.
I haven't watched any really other than those first seven holes on Thursday.
I haven't watched much.
I've been staying away because I'm like,
you need to get you back out with Rory.
Yeah, this thing's over if you don't get back out there tomorrow for that
photo.
God, this is your nightmare, Randy.
There's just, you know, inundating the course and Rory's up by six.
I'd like to see some drama.
So, yeah, maybe Rory can, you know, drop a couple in Rays Creek for us,
make it interesting again.
But like a historic back-to-back
would be pretty fun to watch as well.
So I'm definitely rooting for Rory.
God, he's so fucking freed up.
It's unbelievable, man.
He's just so in his process.
It's something.
We talked about it before you hopped on.
Do you think it's over or no?
I don't think it's over.
I really don't.
No, I think they have a lot.
I caught a little bit of the course discussion.
I think there's two days left.
I think these guys could,
oh, you guys, oh, you want to see us ramp it up?
Like there's a lot of golf left, guys.
We're halfway. So I think that,
um,
we're halfway and we're sending the pretenders home now.
Like I don't think we're always going backwards,
but I could see a couple of guys, you know,
getting up within two or three and making things interesting.
A lot of pretenders snuck in that cut line today.
What's that?
A lot of people make the cut at the master's day.
A lot of people make the cut of the master's day.
You know, Randy,
the only thing I'd say,
because I agree with a lot of how you feel it,
in person it didn't come out that the course was playing easy.
So I'll say that.
But the scores, it's like,
Okay, but, you know, Brooks and Roses 69's felt really good to me today.
Three under.
I was like, those are, that's good golf.
And there wasn't a lot else in that range.
I think Wyndham played really good this morning.
But on Thursday, when it was really hard, I liked it.
I was like, oh my God, let me watch all these guys hit this,
what looks like to a casual fan of boring jib shot from behind 15.
And I'm just like locked in on it.
But it does, the crowd's a little, when there's no birdies in person.
and I think I would, you know, I'm pontificating a little bit, but I would think that the jackets want some birdies, you know, it gets the people going.
They like, they like the long haul.
I think you're right. I'm not saying I like that. I'm just saying I think that's a factor, though.
I think you're absolutely right. And I guess I, I've already harped on it, but I do want people to know it.
I'm more frustrated because of how much I enjoyed yesterday and not as much of how much I did.
didn't enjoy today, if that makes sense.
They took coffee away in the break room.
So you're pissed.
It felt like that a little bit.
Yeah.
It's like, what the hell?
Who took the coffee away?
That's bullshit.
Before we move off, Justin Rose, I do want to shout out of the guy in the comments who
said Justin Rose is sting.
I think that's an incredibly, incredibly good take.
I'm glad I got the conversation going, hand up bad, bad take by me.
Well, also an incredible team guy.
You know, once he gets to the rider cup, you know, the police, like, fuck, who's, who's better
than that team?
Let's talk about Brooks a little bit.
There's a lot of other guys to talk about,
but I know he's heavy in your notebook.
69 today.
Three putted the first.
And then just absolutely locked in,
made six birdies.
Looked the part today, I thought.
He textured mock neck too.
It looks like he's very much visually looked apart.
Great outfit.
In the gym.
Yeah.
He looked great.
Gritty.
He looked gritty.
He was,
yeah.
It wasn't like,
it wasn't effortless,
Brooks.
It was like locked in.
There was a lot of intensity.
in that group, including speed.
They were all three of them were grinding.
So it was fun to watch today.
A bit of a driver kerfuffle going on with Brooks.
He said after the round that he noticed at the range.
After the round yesterday.
Sorry, that he noticed at the range that his driver was set on B1 instead of A1.
I'm the kind of sure fit, Haasel.
And so he changed that and, you know, drove it much better today.
Didn't drive it particularly well yesterday.
And then I think it was Jack Hirsch from golf.com.
posted some photos from Phoenix this year.
It said, yeah, I don't know.
His driver was also on B1 back at Phoenix.
So, like, I don't totally know what's going on there other than to say that's
kind of funny.
It seems like he figured something out today.
It's like something that happened to me.
Oh, God, yeah, that's right.
I messed the settings up.
Sounds a little bit like Craig Stadler reliving some of his master's memory of just like,
yeah, you know, I just found this out.
Well, Deeds, it's funny you bring that up because he, one of the best shots I saw today,
he hit driver off the deck on two.
and you know he pulls the districts on head cover out and it's like oh no that's a gt that's and i think at apex is like 110 feet it was one it's it was unbelievable i think he put it in the front right bunker uh but he was way back off the tee on the right side and it was one of the most beautiful golf shots i've ever seen he's uh he's another one i feel very dumb when i talk about the golf swing but much like much like what i was saying about p yesterday i'm like man i don't know how to explain it but brooks's swing looks so much better it does whether that's a health thing he's he's
feeling more mobile, whether he's
just, I don't know, knocking rust off.
I don't know what's going on.
But he just, I mean, it looks, it looks really, really good.
And I had a really fun time watching Brooks
today. And I hope he's involved.
Going down the board,
just a little bit, Neil, before we get to
Yeah, you guys, you,
speed-s him seems to be dodging that conversation.
Listen, it goes up to me, it'd be an entire
speed episode. That's the only thing that's interesting.
His bosses are making them break on the board.
Sam Burns gets it back under par.
he is at 6 under along with P
anything we want to
talk about with the great man
P he was bogey free until the 18th
on his way to his second straight
69 bird just clean card
man birdie's at 3 8 1217
he's getting up and down he's doing all the P things
he looks it looks very real
to me it
I saw a lot of this group again today
I was kind of trying to catch Rory but it was too crowded
around that one I'm just like I'm going to catch with my
I pee again and watching everybody hit the shot on 12.
I talked about Rory hitting a really good shot in there.
P was the, as soon as the ball came off the club face with P.
To that back is right pin, but not quite the Sunday hole location.
I was like up wet.
All right, it's over.
Like that, that's over.
Like that is coming out of the wrong window.
I've watched everybody play this hole and it comes out of a totally different window.
And nope, it's Patrick Reed playing a draw to the back right hole location on 12.
I mean, it was nobody else was doing that.
And we know he hits a draw every time, but still I don't know what.
I don't know what I was expecting, but I still wasn't expecting somebody to start it right of that pin and go after that pin.
And he made an excellent birdie.
Two people clapped for that birdie when it went in.
I counted there's absolutely there's two people.
And I get that's a weird separation there.
Not everybody was paying attention, but two people clap.
It's so easy to zone out.
It is.
It's just really far away.
But you're just, you're chilling.
You're having a cold beer, Randy.
You know, it's like, it's like you're looking at a painting with like the, like a Harry Potter painting.
You know, when the people move around in it.
That's kind of what Amman.
corner is. It's like far away.
I do want to issue a Mayo Colba. I think I said
this earlier. There were 19 birdies on
15. That was actually 12 I was talking
about. There were 19 birdies on 12 today, which
is just a lot.
That's a lot. Compared to a letter.
I crowned him, Randy.
Just presented without
comment. Yeah.
Dej, I almost looked
away when P came through. It's like I'm
me saving a treat for tomorrow.
Well, it sounds like you're saving your fucking candy
candy bar for tomorrow too.
I did not find out.
one. Could not find one. They might be selling out of these things. Oh. Really?
But to two concession stands, couldn't find one. They're not testing well, Randy.
So I'm trying, I promise you, I will get what I let you know. That's helpful. Thank you.
We were under the impression you just didn't do it or forgot to do. No, I looked. They don't have
them in the media center and I went to two concession stands on my way out. They didn't have them.
So maybe it's late in the day and people are just gnawn on those things. Maybe grab that thing first thing in the
morning and jam it down at your pocket. That's what I didn't want to do. I thought about that. So that's why I
waiting because I was like I don't want to melt my pocket all day it's hot out there
I want it to be a true taste test I'm trying to I'm trying to make sure we don't lose the
bar you're going to keep the integrity of the bar right yeah one thing broadly on P
we need if it if Rory doesn't collapse tomorrow assuming Rory is one of those two in the final
group we need P in that final group for Sunday like if it if Rory doesn't collapse tomorrow assuming Rory is one of those two in the final group
for Sunday. Like if
we're going to have any chance
at some real drama,
I think we like Patrick
Reed is who I'm looking at.
100%. They should just pair
them together tomorrow. Again, this is
a block I'll be on forever.
Roy's not playing with, he's played with Sam Burns.
Like when guys are tied,
I think tournaments should have the ability.
And the Masters used to just pair whatever the hell
they wanted in the final round. They would
anything with these group things right now.
A P. Justin Rose
an ultimate pairing.
That's...
Is that happening?
I think so.
He's with Rose.
Okay.
Yeah, so that's good.
But I just, you know, their Riter Cup history, P relishes the...
Yes.
You know, he's just a great match play player.
Like, we need P.
Rider Cup history.
I mean, his Pee's lawyer, subpoenaed served Rory on Christmas Eve a couple years ago.
B went to go shake Rory's hand in Dubai, wherever that was.
Roy wouldn't do it.
through a tea at him
there's history there man
like these two do not like each other
I know that was the that was the cherry
on top Randy when it was like
nobody chipped into the water today and
fuck he missed that punt on 18 now he's not the final group
I was like ah
this just you know
we could buy a birdie coming in
today kind of
came back on my radar last year I watched
him on the front nine I think on Friday and I was like
I miss this guy I mean it's just
like the hands it's unbelievable
it's great day of golf had an
awesome post.
Just basically best short games at Augusta National since like 2021.
And Patrick Reed is just far and away the best.
It's,
that was a good chart.
Outside of that,
Shane Lowry at five under,
Tommy Fleetwood at five under.
He had a 68 today,
two Eagles.
Kind of epic pants.
Yeah,
people are kind of bagging them.
I think baggies in.
It looks,
I think it looks swaggy.
He pulls it off.
Again,
does that,
is that going to be a DJ Pie outfit?
No, I don't think so.
But I think he looked great, you know.
I'm glad he's doing it.
I will say one of the cool things, too, is, you know, Tommy had an afternoon tea time.
But, you know, I was going out for the morning groups and I, you can't miss him.
You see Ian Finnis out on the golf course.
He was out scouting watching whole locations, like watching putts, like ready to take a bunch of stuff back.
He actually, one of our reporters was on the ground with him and got a bunch of insight into into what he had gathered.
It was great to view everything through this lens throughout the course of the day.
so.
Scoop Solomon here calling in for the 18th hole out for a lovely stroll this morning at the
National Golf Club and on that stroll I've rubbed into Ian Finnis, Tommy Fleetwood's caddy.
You may know that Tommy Fleetwood does not tee off until this afternoon, but Ian was out
scoping out the golf course, learning about the Greens, and here is the word-for-word report
that he gave me exclusive report here for Scoop Solomon.
We will have more on this story as it develops.
Cheers.
That's good.
That's a good one.
That might be one of my favorite ones.
Truly,
that's good shit.
I didn't fucking understand.
I ran into Soli on three and he was like,
I just had a good one.
He was so proud of it.
I just got back from the phone bag.
I feel really good about the one I just put in.
Well done.
That was really good.
It just is like, you're super reading on 17.
What are the hands?
The spoon on it?
How do it?
How do it?
I don't know what you just said, man.
He's like, yeah, yeah.
That's the best.
Randy's guy Dubb, Wyndham Clark with the 68 today.
T.C. is encouraging people to trust the process.
He says there is that will correct itself.
Windham wants the canary in the coal mine.
I got to say.
Look up seeing him like three under through six.
I was like, oh, boy, I might not like how this goes.
on that on that note you know we we bagged a lot on the live guys yesterday terrell hatton shot 66
was the low round of the day until rory made that birdie on 18 fantastic round of golf for him
how tongue lee just was quote living in the bathroom last night uh he was super sick last night
and uh as has survived it all to shoot 69 at augustin national
This just tickles you,
already.
Is that a quote?
Did he say that after the round?
Oh,
he's deathly ill.
Yeah.
I didn't,
yeah,
we don't have to get into the details,
but it was bad,
it required a lot of trips to the bathroom.
Many trips to the toilet.
Yeah.
So he survived.
And he did say he survived.
He did.
Christopher Ritean,
Jason Day,
and Cam Young,
rounding out that group at four under.
Cody,
I got to give you a big shout out on Cam Young.
Probably give,
Cam Young, a big shout out as well.
But he was, dude, he was, he was seven over through four, sorry, four over through seven.
And has fought it all the way back to four under par.
Just gritty stuff, man.
He clearly doesn't have it in spots, but taking advantage of when he does, made four
birdies in a row from 12 to 15 today.
And is now a proper factor in the tournament.
You love to see it.
You know, who says no to that?
So, Neil, I feel like with all that read into the record, we can legally,
talk about speed if you want to.
It would have been a pretty big.
No, I hear you.
I would have been a big shot Bob middle finger to all those guys.
I can only speak to what I saw.
I can only speak on what I saw brother.
And I saw a lot of speed.
And, you know, he hit like a step back, like step three to start the day.
You know, from the fairway bunker.
Out of the fairway bunker drains like a 20 footer.
And it's just, it just sucks you in, Randy.
I mean, I was like, oh, here we go.
Not only that.
Then he hits.
green in two on number two.
We're going to get there. You're just like
you're so in, you know? And then
yeah, okay, three, but we're fine. You know, we're close, right?
And then we get to three. He hits his,
just a speithian chip
to three and a half feet.
Doesn't even hit the hole on the three
footer. You know, you're like, okay, that's
tough. And then he goes to four. Well, not
only that on, it was, it was closer to five
feet, probably six foot, but
before he hit the put, before he hit the put,
it was just something you just
don't, you're not seeing a guy
offense. He called Mikey in for the
Reed on that one. And
it's just not a lot going on with that putt,
man. Like it breaks a little bit, but
dude, just hitting the fucking back of the hole.
And he didn't even, like, hit the putt. He's so
many times they just, like, didn't hit.
He's just like so afraid of all of these
putts. He's not hitting the putt, like, trying to
get it in the back of the hole. I think he's worried
about the next one way too much.
And you just got to hit five, six footers
at Augusta with some, like,
you have to ram it, but it's just got to go in
at make speed, not crawl over the front
lip. It was a scared effort. And that's when it was like, I think we're in trouble here.
Only counterout, yeah, only counterout I give to that is this is where the Novak quotes are just
and Schephler and a bunch of other guys who were just like, man, I was shocked at how slow the
greens were. It's kind of ringing in in the back of my head. Because he hit that as if it was like
Sunday greens are turning purple. This is like, this can go off the green type of speed and was
shocked as soon as he hit it. Just like, why did that not get to the hole?
And then the same thing happened on eight.
Same thing happened again somewhere else.
And it just was, that was very, I don't know,
that looked like a guy that was just not playing the greens.
He thought he was playing,
which to your point,
you got to make an adjustment,
you got to figure it out.
Like I do get that,
but that was,
yeah, it was a bummer.
One thing I'll say is all day,
a lot of the body language with Speeth is,
he's like doing practice putting strokes like all,
when other people are putting,
like all over the green.
It just, it doesn't feel like joyous.
It feels like nervous and defensive.
And I don't like that.
And it bums me out because I do root for speed.
I mean, I didn't think he was going to be a threat this year.
But I, the minute he made that birdie at the first, I was like, oh, my God, maybe what if, what if?
What if?
What if?
It would be such a joy.
And he used to play the game with such joy that I wish that would come back.
And then four, he comes before.
It hits a great iron off the tee.
Comes up a foot short into that front bunker.
You know, and to his credit, he grinded out a bunch of tough pars.
made an awesome up and down on seven.
And then a great example of him being close,
but like how far away is close on eight.
He hits it up the left side.
And it's just like, yeah, that's close, man.
But like that is the complete wrong place to be off of 18.
Got to challenge the bunker up the right.
And so I think he makes par there.
And he's just kind of just a par fest on the way in.
And then he kind of just starts getting the lefts in place.
So I'm on 14.
He hits it left.
Hits it through this crack in the trees.
Great shot, you know, and makes par it four.
but he's just off schedule.
Gentlemen,
it was the most, like,
it was just the spieth experience,
all of it.
I'm on the left side of 15.
Ball comes down like five feet for me.
I swear to God,
some ball nowhere in the crowd goes.
I bet my house that's Jordan's ball.
Bad Tisha.
Just, you know,
spitting his club, walking up,
doing his, like, just idiosyncratic,
Jordan, here he comes.
They had to move a TV truck,
and he and,
He and Mikey, they're looking at it.
They talked for about 90 seconds over this, like, window.
He's like, I see, you know, it's the only option, Mikey.
It's the only option.
I got to go here.
So he steps up over the ball.
For a layup, by the way.
Yeah, like a nine iron out.
And so he, and he's like, it's right there, you know, but there's just one branch.
And I can get it by.
I think it's going to be under that.
And just this whole conversation is happening in front of like 40 people.
It's awesome.
So he's about to, he's about to hit it.
It's very tense because I, you know, Michael was, I think, I get you.
Okay.
you know, I can see the window too.
Sure enough, like a rifle crack rings out.
Brooks just plays from like up who,
and it was his honor,
but I think the two of them were so locked in.
They didn't even check.
And Jordan steps off,
he's like,
well,
guess Brooks is playing.
You know,
it's just totally flumvix.
And he steps in.
He hits a great shot.
He catches like the,
this clump of pine needles.
Like,
if he gave him a hundred shots,
he wouldn't hit this clump again.
And it's just hanging,
you know,
the only branch he could hit.
And he barely gets.
it out of the trees. He's so pissed. He's like, Mike,
that was a great shot. Mike. I hit it just where I wanted it to do, Michael.
You know, and then he hits, and then he's making it hard himself.
Shot of the day. Shot of the day on 15. And he just can't convert all day. Same thing on 17.
It's a great shot of the 17. Can't convert. And then just one for the road, Randy.
Let me just almost make this bunker shot on 18 and then just walk out with a fucking
bogey hang dog all the way to the scoring. Meanwhile, Team Rose is dapping up every kid.
He's like, he's like trying to get kids to come over. He's like, hey, you kid, come over.
and dab me up.
Jordan won't say hi to anybody.
You know, it's just unbelievable.
It was such a juxtaposition.
It, uh, man, the way he was hitting it through like, we can wrap the speech.
I know.
We're going deep on the guy.
No, no, no.
I'm so with you.
I watched it all.
And I was like through four, five, six, seven holes.
I'm like, this is it, man.
He's hitting it the way.
He's a grown up round on the front night.
He's hitting it the way he needs to hit it.
And then he missed that put on eight.
And I'm like, we're, we're done.
This is not.
This is not it.
But that's, maybe possibly we'll see what
happens. Last thing I'll say on speed for the week is he did hit it genuinely like good enough to be in contention.
Obviously it was not going to do what Rory's doing. But he hit it good enough to shoot four under today.
And he just fucking didn't do it. Like he just, he forgot. He forgot to. Yeah. There's just no offense with the putter.
And that's he always used to hit in these dumb spots. But he just would get out of jail with like the magic on the greens. And he just like, three was a perfect example. It's like it's just not assertive. I don't know. All right. On this on the spot musical comparison.
Jordan Speed.
Oh, gosh.
It just seems like he's in my head immediately.
The strokes, you know?
I mean, there was a time and a place where it's just like,
you've never seen anything like it.
It just feels like we're chasing it.
And now it's just like, oh, the new album coming out in July.
I'm like, yeah, fuck.
Okay.
You might be like Mike Posner,
taking a pill and a B's in 2016 and just like,
yeah, he's not doing it anymore.
He's not really even doing music anymore.
he is doing music though that's the whole thing yeah but it's like making music this week it's the music's
the music's about how i'm not who i used to be like his new song like puser's new song is like i went back to
a bees uh and how it's not the same anymore man like y'all are just like live in a different
reality i think and i i want to live it but it's just that the magic just isn't there like
it's just not and it's not just the putting it's just like there's just no
it used to feel inevitable with Jordan in the opposite direction that it now feels inevitable.
There's some good suggestions coming.
Justin Timberlake,
Afro-Man.
It was going to ruin the tour today.
Yeah.
Soldier boy.
Ruined the world tour.
The,
so I feel like the stats are going to show maybe Spieth didn't have his best putting day today.
You think it's worth kind of everybody else diving into their stats or no?
Yeah.
Oh, shit.
I wasn't ready for that.
Come on, man.
I know, man.
Come on.
Run the right route.
Down at Augusta this week,
which is honestly the perfect place to talk about our stats in Arcos,
because this is where core strategy matters more than anywhere.
That's exactly what Arcos AI strategy is built for.
So if you got a golf trip coming up or an event at a new local course or a new course in general,
you can pull up the course in the Arcos app and see exactly how you should be playing.
It builds a full game plan before you even step on the first tee.
It's not generic.
It is based on your data.
your distances, your tendencies, your misses,
and it's not like just a theory.
Like Eduardo Molinari helped develop this.
He's been called the secret weapon behind the European Rider Cup team.
It's not so much of the secret anymore.
But guys like Matt Fitzpatrick and their success,
it all comes back to strategy.
You can actually go into the app.
You can pull up a Custin National,
and you could see how you would play it,
what club you would hit,
maybe around aim in corner,
where you should aim on 16, things like that,
how elevation and wind are affecting your shots.
It's like having the same level of strategy built specifically
for your game. And then once you're out there, the new Arcos air makes the whole thing effortless.
There's no sensors on your clubs, no phone in your pocket, no distractions, just drop the air in your pocket
and you play basically like a health app for your golf game.
If you want to know how your phone or wearable tracks your steps, your sleep, your activity,
that's what Arcos is doing for your golf automatically tracks every shot.
It logs all of your data and shows you exactly what's happening in your game.
And the more you play, the smarter it gets. You'll start to see where you're actually losing strokes,
what your real distances are and what you should be working on.
So now is the time to get started.
Go to Arcosgolf.com.
A-R-C-C-C-O-S-Golf.com.
Use code N-L-U-15 will give you 15% off.
That's on the bottom of the screen there as well.
Arcosgolf.com, code N-L-U-15 will save you 15%.
See a Neil's face during that ad read.
When you're going through and you're like, you know,
it's just like if you were going to play against the national,
you can see what clubs you're supposed to hit.
You can see all these things you're supposed to do.
Neil won the lottery.
today.
I was like,
my app real quick.
I can go back and clip your face as
I was going through that ad read.
I was like, oh, yeah, okay.
All right.
I got to get,
I got to get in the lab to figure out what I'm hitting on 12.
You know, sometimes,
sometimes life's pretty cool, man.
Sometimes,
sometimes life's pretty cool.
And,
Sally,
you know what,
handshake to you.
So I walk in,
uh,
from the course.
I'm all scattered.
I get up to the desk and he's like, hey, I, you know,
I got Cody on the phone.
He wants to talk to you.
And it's my wife.
It's Carson.
I'm like, what's up?
What's up?
She's like, I, you know, I need you to call my.
Is everything okay?
I'm like, oh, God, you know.
And he shared the news with her and she broke it to me, which I was like, oh,
they're playing all.
You know, it was nice.
It was very nice.
The plan was going to, I was going to have him, uh, I was going to have him, uh, I was
going to have the golf.
course because that's like the only way that he wouldn't have known would have been if he's out in golf
course if i ran into him be like hey carson wanted to call you are you to call her it's not an
emergency everything's fine but she just wanted something about she needs a password or something so i
wanted her to share it uh share it with it but that he came back in and it was on the sign when you
walked in and he didn't see it somehow he was looking for candy bars no i didn't see it but i could
tell he hadn't seen it yet i was like he didn't even ask about it or anything so i i i faked it
or whatnot but i was uh i was nervous i was as soon as they announced it was coming up i
ran down there to see it. I'm sure enough I saw the name up there and was just, I was so
stoked and so excited for him. How about that, Randy? You know what? Sometimes we got to wet our
beak, you know? True. Yeah, we're supposed to do a strapped later this. I'm truly, I'm truly
stoked, straight up. I was like, that's, that's a thrill. It's a thrill and a delight.
Tell me what you have to do, though, on Monday, what you were supposed to do and what you will be
Well, they had a secondary option for members of the media to play the patch,
which I believe is the renovated municipal golf course down the street.
And I'm going to have to respectfully.
I hope someone can fill my tea time.
I'll free it up for it.
We'll send the elevator back down.
Unreal.
Unreal.
Congratulations.
He's changed.
Ranj's looking at me.
He changed.
Yeah.
It's fucked up, man.
I think we got to, you know, we got to do a,
just like we did for solid, we got to do a big debrief of shot by shot by shot.
That's a good, good comment.
The patch is Vijay's new nickname.
I think we should we do another segment on the champion?
Oh, I saw the patch up close and personal to that 15T.
It's something, man.
It is nice, nice edging there.
It really is.
It's like a little snow cone on his chin.
We, uh, all right.
We're going to get this thing back on the rails.
We'll whip this thing back.
Scotty shot 74 today.
I feel like we probably need to talk about that.
Ding a little bit.
Got wet on both 13 and 15.
Sully, will you apologize?
This is your boy.
No, I won't apologize yet.
He's 12 back with 36 to play, you think?
Yeah, he might not win.
I'm not going to apologize just yet.
It's not good.
Yeah, I don't know.
I didn't catch any poster on press or anything like that.
I'll say it was it was an interesting moment
so he goes long on 15 goes in the water
takes like a really interesting drop
and like gets it like
kind of on the upslope of the bank like he
dropped really close to the hazard and I wasn't
quite sure why and you go back and watch
that I mean he ended up missing the put but watch the shot he hits
from the bank long of 15 today like
lands it on like the spin he put on that one
from you know from a really really
precarious spot was one of the coolest shots I saw all day
but not sharp I
it was interesting um as
was getting on the green he got marked his ball and he was one under i think at that point and
at that moment we heard a roar on the other side of course we were kind of kind of close to where we
were and uh at that moment they posted rory's birdie on four which put him at eight under and like
he was like walking towards he's looking right up at the board and just looking up at like
i just went the water and now i'm like seven back of this guy and it was uh uh you know just
imagine that moment two years ago walking off 2024 when he wanted and and like
cruising fashion to like oh shit like this guy like might have as many green jackets as I do like in
about like two days it was just a kind of unavoidable moment of how how fast things can change
and it's not going scotty's way right now it looks just kind of those those sliding
somewhere between six to nine foot putts that scotty has made the years he's won the masters
and not made the years that he doesn't were just it was like it's been like that for two days
just missing low on several birdie putts on par fives and just hasn't been,
hasn't been clean, hasn't been efficient, hasn't been full on Scotty golf.
And I'm surprised.
This is a body language.
Totally fine.
I didn't see a single thing that was, you know, bitchy or anything that was kind of in
line with what we'd seen in recent weeks when he's not played nearly as well.
He looked, he seemed totally fine.
I think he did.
It is a weird, it almost reminds me a little bit of the beginning of the year,
where like he,
I think he's hitting it better than he probably scored,
but not,
you know,
just couldn't make any puts.
And then the two big,
like at a gust of irons.
Yeah,
when you hit,
unbecoming.
Yeah.
When you,
like,
the punishment for those two misses is just like so much more heightened,
not only this week,
but on those two holes to where it,
you know,
kind of derails the day a little bit,
even though I think he hit it pretty solid the rest of the day.
You know,
it's not as bad as it probably looks,
but it's also not even close to,
to what the guy at the top of the board is.
doing. And he lost two strokes on the greens. I mean, and yeah, you got two penalty shots on
approach shots and lost strokes approach. I mean, the whole thing with Scotty is that it's,
when he plays well, it's unspectacular. Like, he just doesn't make the mistakes and he just
wears you down. And like, he's making the mistakes right now. And there's just, um, it's been a
bit of a shocking decline. You know, it's not been horrible golf, but it's a hard fall off from like
winning half of the events you're playing essentially to like not being competitive over the last
month and a half or so is not something I saw coming.
Yeah.
Randy, is he still your favorite player?
I started losing.
I'm dead.
Back on more, Cal.
I'm thinking about that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, he is.
I, you know.
How are you taking this then?
Oh, well, I'm disappointed.
Yeah, I was disappointed.
It's, uh, I, I, I, I think I had talked myself into the possibility of Scotty and
Rory, perhaps dueling this weekend.
and probably shouldn't do that on a Thursday, but I was dreaming big.
And, you know, he was going okay.
It was looking quite honestly like, okay, you know, salvage a 70 today.
Let's move on moving day.
You know, obviously didn't see Rory finishing at 12 under like he did.
But the just a bad scrappy miss on 13 and then to follow it up on 15 with poor distance control.
Yeah, just not good enough.
Disappointing.
Neil, your agent sent me a note and said you're interested in debuting a new segment tonight.
Is that true?
Yeah, I kind of.
Did we let some of these out of the back?
Yeah, I think the chamber a couple of these started firing all over the place.
But it came from, so specifically it came from on the first hole today.
I got off to a hot start, gentlemen.
I had a bit of a tough interaction with radar.
Really?
The radio guy.
Well, not tough.
Like, he didn't do anything wrong.
I just, I got all excited.
excited last night after listening to you and G.C.
Is this a CBS cameraman type of situation?
Yeah, a little bit.
Yeah, well said.
Just talking about him saying immense.
Yeah.
And so I was like right next to him.
And he's, you know, kind of, he's, he throws off the gallery because it'll be dead silent.
And he'll be like, one, 25.
He puts fly right over this bunker.
He's a tough, tough position behind the, behind the green, you know.
And everyone's like, who is this guy with the cowboy, you know, the Indiana Jones hat on?
Anyway, Jordan hits that awesome shot, or I think, no, Rose hit an awesome shot from the trees.
And I just kind of took my chance.
And I was like, hey, that was immense.
And he was like, yeah, like right out like, little man, basically cool man, me hard.
I just didn't know what to do.
So I kind of just walked off.
So in honor of that, I was going to introduce a new segment, Icorito's immense moments of the day.
And that was the first one.
That was the first one.
But one specifically, we talked about speed on 15.
I do want to give Mr. Michael Greller a shout out.
Just the immensity of his presence.
He walks right in behind Jordan to this golf ball
and immediately says, I'm going to need five feet here.
Ladies and gentlemen, I need five feet.
And audible, three separate big, strong men, Randy said,
oh, yes, sir.
Yes, sir.
To Greller.
I swear to God.
Oh, yes, sir, yes, sir.
It was like right down the line of just frat stars.
I was like, hell yeah, Greller.
Just taking control of the situation.
situation. Everyone's backing up immediately five steps on command. It was immense.
I think that's the old teacher. It is. It was just handling his business. Very respectful.
But the way he said, I'm going to need five steps here. Pensils down.
Yeah. Nobody was messing with Greller. And then he got got into this back and forth with Jordan
about the windows. It was, uh, it was, that was a really, really fun, uh, fun part of the day.
He should have given him the, his shot does not release you. I release you after. I will
tell you when you can get back into position.
I had the Brooks driver off the deck's going to stick with me.
That was immense.
I had that in there.
I just had just team Rose.
Just what can we say about him?
He might have graduated too immense from from great to immense.
I mean, he's a lion, Randy.
Just a total pro out there.
Where do you go describing him after great man?
Like literally like we've, that's it.
Amense.
It might be great man.
Yeah.
These are great.
These are great men.
The last one.
On my way down Washington Road tonight, I've been kind of turned around, but I kind of knew
had my bearing.
So I was able to kind of take in the billboards.
Once they tore the Hooters down, I'm just totally.
It's such a thrill.
You got a classy Rolex one with Scotty and ROM.
And then you got Ludwig and that AI lawyer company, but looking super classy.
And then you got Larry Mize hawking a roofing company.
And then you got just these big chicklets.
you got big bryson de chambot and his crushers gear up there pushing calci just staring down at you
at the stoplight and i was like man it just made me feel like an immense moron for picking him
to win this week and i just want to call that out i was just like fuck you man you know it's just
i'm an idiot what am i doing just smiling back at me calci pushing if pushing the prediction market
it's tough scene for me uh if you missed it bryson uh playing playing playing
solid made four birdies today was was one inside the cut line after yesterday's 76 heading to
18 hits it in the green side bunker and we we find more trouble with the with the immense
wedges that he has mungous wedges that was in my head all day ran yeah guys got humongous
ways yeah what do we do when uh he hits one out of the bunker tries to tries to tries to hit one
out of the bunker it catches the lip very hard bunker shot admittedly uh comes back to you know back
to the bottom of the bunker, chips another one out,
uh,
rolls off the green,
ships on two putts for a triple smelia.
Uh,
that's going to be,
that's going to be end of his week,
triple two to finish the week,
uh,
and shoot,
shoot 74 today.
Uh,
I got nothing else other than that.
Um,
Neil,
I think you covered it pretty well on kind of the,
the feelings of predictions versus reality there.
Yeah.
I,
uh,
hand up,
hand up on that one.
I got sucked in,
Randy.
I went,
you know,
kind of like when I was using that Tom Watson,
like mental app.
Yeah.
Strat.
It's kind of got to just like,
I hate to see you go down this path.
Like we all know
Bryson won't change anything in his setup,
right?
But like he's got to
for this course, right?
If he ever wants to win here.
But then it's like, I mean,
how do you possibly play?
Then he's going to like,
he's too proud.
I think he's no.
He gave up the,
the hat.
He's like,
I feel like he tinker.
I could see him, I could see him changing.
If there was anything I'd give him credit for,
I feel like he, he's, uh,
just a single length wedge.
Like are you like can you wedges themselves?
Yeah.
Just.
Yeah.
It's,
yeah.
Got to wonder if he missed his,
I don't want to say that out loud.
Maybe I will.
Did he miss his window with like two decent runs at,
at the masters?
Like,
it just doesn't,
doesn't add up for me.
I don't know how he did it even last couple of years.
I,
Granny said it so well.
He doesn't have the,
the touch.
the artistry.
Like he just,
he just does not.
He's not playing the same level of golf.
I mean,
yeah,
maybe Stain City was not the best preparation,
you know,
in terms of the execution of the golf shots that are needed.
I don't know Braynoe had a heyday with that one this past.
He got,
he was going to get that in.
But it's hard not to think about that.
It's like Steph Curry shooting free throws and the rims the size of a hoo-lo-hoo.
Good line.
But like, yeah, look at Rom and Bryson are like the torch carriers for for that tour.
And like, I don't know why it.
I wish somebody would have asked.
And I'm, again, I'm a credential press member.
And I'm capable of asking this as well to either of them.
It's like, what does, how would you assess, you know, assess how the run up here, like improved, affected your chances of your, your preparation for the first major of the year.
They were asked.
Rom was asked that.
Hatton was asked that.
after the after they'd played or like yeah after today's rounds what's the what's the prep you know how does live prepare you for coming into these events and they just kind of both brush it off like yeah same as every other same as every other tournament expected next next fucking topic yeah wrong to his credit shot 70 today played played very good golf made the cut after yesterday's uh embarrassment but um yeah i mean better than better than you know having a tail between his legs and going home so we put a pin in the brison dude come
after that. I think that's that's that's I rest my case on that one. It's a good point.
Big I asked you coming into today and and I feel like this may have changed with the last hour of
golf and and and Roy playing his last time his last five holes in 72 under bar.
But I said Randy what are the best what power rank it. I know your big power rankings guy.
Oh. Power rank the 10 your 10 best scenarios for the weekend here. And I'm just you know,
Rory six ahead.
You heard where I stand.
I think we're going to need to come up with some stuff to talk about the next couple of days.
So we'll start now.
Just dream for me a little bit.
What do you got?
What are your dream scenarios for the weekend?
Well, keep in mind when I when I texted Cody this, yeah, Rory I think was either
taught, maybe one up.
It was a whole different, whole different tournament.
In honor of David Letterman in his top 10, Cody, I don't know if we have any kind of graphic
here. But we'll run it down from 10 to 1. These were my favorite potential storylines come
Sunday afternoon. Number 10, Randy the fool. I was thinking, man, if Sam Burns ends up winning
this golf tournament, it's going to be a tough look for your boy after that drive-by comment.
Yeah, what did you say yesterday? I think it was Sam Burns. Thank God we don't have to worry about
him winning this. This is a great just know he won't win. Yeah, that's what I'm. No, Randy, I will
I stand by that.
Oh, yeah, I won't let you, even though you're the ones, I won't let you go on that alone.
We all felt that.
Like, everybody listening as well.
Randy the fool.
My number nine storyline was twice as nice, dot, dot, dot, I guess.
And this is kind of covering down on you got your Shane Lowry, you got your Wyndham Clark,
you got your Hedaki Matsuyama, guys who could potentially win a second major.
But quite honestly, guys, I don't care about.
And in fact, I'll share something.
Shane Lowry winning would be my biggest fear.
I really do not like Shane Lowry, the golfer.
I'm sure he's great to have a beer with.
Take it all the way on the golf course.
So that was number nine.
I believe you,
I believe you called him the sum of all fears today.
As he made birdie on, what was that, 18?
Just horrible, horrible.
Can't stand to watch it.
Number eight storyline, guys, do you know what the Chinese zodiac is this year?
The rooster?
Year of the rooster?
No, it's the year of the horse.
And when Hal Tong Lee starts bucking, you can cancel Christmas.
I mean, think about it.
This is probably underranked at number eight.
But How Tong Lee winning the Masters, think about the ripple on effects.
Think about how the wheat chat would be popping off.
Yeah.
I think it is popping off.
Yeah.
The dinner next year, the opening the Chinese market, the flood of golf in China, like, it would be big things.
Also, I mean, how Tom is.
just objectively very funny.
And the more we can get him in front
of a microphone, the better.
So I'm with you here, Big.
Let me shout out his podcast. He did
with Smiley Kaufman
yet again. It was hilarious.
Like, he's just, he's
an absolute riot.
He's a survivor too.
He did survive that night in the bathroom.
Yes. Number seven, listen,
this one, this one's a little red meat
for the Rory fans. Rory runs it
back. This was going to be, you know,
hey not my favorite but I recognize it's an important thing that's that's listen nine for me one for you
guys we're going to have plenty plenty of time to talk about this over the next two days I think but
getting to six is I mean immense immense some would say immense it's immense yeah it's important
number six I called we need a miracle this is obviously you guys know I don't think any master's
winner has been outside the top 25 at least in gosh knows how long
at this stage of the tournament.
So this covers down on your Jordan Spice,
who's just outside of that top 25.
This is maybe Ludwig,
if he wants to make a run,
certainly Scotty Sheffler,
guys that truly would need a miracle
over the weekend to come get it.
That was number six.
Number five, I labeled our friend,
the major winner, question mark.
Max Homa.
Max Homa looked like he was getting involved.
I mean, he still is a little involved.
I caught him on 17.
He almost chipped in.
He looked,
he looked bouncy.
You know what Max is feeling it.
He starts to get a little spring.
A little bit of a Rory bounce when Max is playing well.
I would say two things on Max.
One, go look at where he made Bertie from on number two.
Fantastic stuff.
Way over in those holly bushes or whatever.
TC pointed this out too.
Guys keep finding more and more just messed up spots on number two.
It feels like there's a lot of jump scares when they cut back to guys on number two
and they're just in horrible spots.
Max had like this little wind.
window, punched it through, knocked a wedge on, and, like, actually knocked a wedge on and then it
rolled like 30 feet down and then he cashed that. So it was a very eventful hole. But two, like,
go read his comments about how he is swinging it right now, take it for what you will. I know the
results have not been there. He had a big, like, you know, the back nine was, this was a dream
for me. It finally felt different. It finally felt better. So just, you know, just calm that out.
He also looked good. He had a nice dark green shirt on. He looked really.
Like, he looked like a pro.
Yeah.
The pro's 6.0, potentially.
I hated that burgh, uh, bogey on 18.
Yeah, for sure.
Uh, number four, we, we called great men do great things, Neil.
And this, of course, is, is Justin Rose.
Great.
Yeah, can you imagine him coming down 18?
Well, you asked me earlier, Dege, like, who would I rather see?
I might say, Rose just because of the, like, to see a truth,
Fesbian take the stage on 18?
You know, like what, what would that scene look like, Randy?
You know, I just.
Imagine the next 30 years.
It'd be like the Globe Theater in Augusta, Georgia, you know, just true, true Shakespearean
stuff.
The guy, you know, finally gets it done.
The people love them.
That's all I'm going to say.
Just counterweight, you know, it's a podcast, just presenting the other side.
Like, what if he does it?
What if he comes close again?
It does it?
I'm like, ooh, that's.
I don't know Justin Rose.
Like, that's interesting, too.
You know, he seems like a great guy.
You know, but if I'm just watching a sporting event, I'm like,
that's pretty fun to figure about it as well.
If he doesn't, he completely snapped someday.
Exactly.
He's got to be close to snapping.
With this tournament alone, isn't it like sometimes a little uncomfortable
with somebody like going for the first that would mean the absolute world to them
and somebody just like getting their set?
With the eternity of the green jacket and the champion's dinner
and somebody's already got all of that stuff.
Oh, my bad, dog.
the second one of that versus somebody getting it for the first time.
I'm just a little, like a little cold blood is like a little.
For sure.
For sure.
But that's where I'm like, yo, you know who's also interesting is Greg Norman, you know, not Colin Montgomery.
Like I don't know.
There's, there's, I can see that one cuts both ways is all I'm saying.
This is where we get back.
Is Lange ever close?
No.
Augusta.
No.
He, so I didn't, I looked this up and somebody pointed this out.
If you go to the master's vault, like if you search for Colin Montgomery, there's no shots televised on Sunday.
throughout his entire career at the Masters,
which doesn't seem right
because he was involved in 97.
But yeah, that was,
if that is factual,
no, he was never close to winning him actual Masters.
I have him looks like maybe T8,
best finish in 1998.
And then no other top tens.
The uncomfortable question is if Rose doesn't get it done,
is he a great man?
Because great men do do great things.
But you said Rory's a great man too
after the Ryder Cup last year.
You know, like I, at some point, they got to cancel each other out, right?
Like if, I mean, if Roy just takes it, then there's only so much Rose can do.
If you lose to another great man, you can still be.
Yeah, I mean, he's one back of, you take Rory out, he's one back of the lead.
Okay.
Uh, moving on.
Number three, remember when Brooks was here.
I, I think Brooks reannouncing himself trying to close a masters on Sunday, that got me very
excited with the possibilities. Obviously, that would take him to six. You know, this, hopefully
fledgling kind of race to six with him and Rory. I just want Brooks to be rejuvenated. And he
looks rejuvenated. He looks like he's got that pop back. I hope he makes a charge. I was getting
really excited thinking about him, you know, trying to close this on Sunday. He looks physically,
like healthy, Randy. Yeah. Like he slimmed down. I was, I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. He was.
I don't think he's going to win this week,
but I don't think we've seen the last of him.
Like, I do think Brooks is going to win another major.
I think that's a very reasonable conclusion.
It could be this year.
Like I would absolutely think we got to get,
got to get the mention in in the first 30 minutes of the next major preview for Brooks Kepka.
Dude, the mink.
My number two,
my number two favorite potential Sunday storyline,
I called no water, no inclusions, no apologies.
Patrick Reed
winning the Masters again
just Lady Jay
just all of it
this should be one
unbelievable well hold on
for one I he is so
antithetical I think to what
everything Augusta National
stands itself up to be
and I just love
the idea of Patrick Reed being like
you know what
fuck all that I'm winning this thing again
you guys are stuck with me
yeah I
God, I'm so with you.
It's shocking.
I know Tron talked about this last night, but it's shocking how much I'm pulling for him.
I'm like, what had happened?
Every time he's on the screen, I'm like, ah, I just missed.
All right, we'll get him on the next one.
Come on, come on, come on, come, come, cap.
It's crazy.
Forget if I said this.
His crew is still out there.
The cap crew is still out there.
Still be the only ones referring to him that as he, you know, taps in parpots on 16.
All right.
We're just, P is so ingrained.
we got to start working the captain in.
I think it's so good.
And then my number one, Neil, you said,
what could possibly be better than that?
My number one I called Tom,
Tron, God help us all.
Can you imagine Tommy Fleetwood
trying to win a master's
on the back nine at Augusta?
Just everything that would entail.
It's all of our dreams that Tommy wins a major
that T.C. didn't pick him for.
It's the, it would be the,
greatest possible thing to happen to any of us.
They got a metro diner down the street.
That's what I was going to say. Would TC be able to find a badge for Sunday?
I mean, would he pay out the note? Like there's just
so many possibilities. Tommy choking down the street.
You know, it's like, God, I was really getting excited about the idea of Tommy trying to win a major, especially here.
And then they soaked the course and ruined it for you, Randy.
Thank you, Neil.
That's a little runaway.
It's going to be boring as hell.
Oh, man.
Randy, that was excellent.
I think that you took us inside the mind of the big guy there.
That was great stuff.
He drawn and got up us all.
What else you guys have in the notebook before we wrap this one up?
I can dump through mine if you want.
We do have an update from the Four Please guy.
Ken confirmed we got closer to it.
He is yelling now.
I don't know why we couldn't hear yesterday.
He projected today.
It was a lot going on.
We heard what you heard up close and in person there on the first tee.
I think if I, correct me if I'm wrong or check me here.
He's yelling for the big groups.
There were a couple of sleepier groups that came through and he was very, he was a little more subdued.
Please, Patrick.
Yeah, it was just a little more kind of normal voice.
But then you get, you get a Jordan Spee, roaring mackerel.
You get some of those big ones and he's he's hamming it up a little bit.
Second thing, Brian Campbell, who I believe is stunting all over the belugas big board made cut.
Sure.
He's plus one or he's right around the mix.
His wife has on a, had on a, um, a, um, a, um, a, um, a, um, a, um, a,
jacket of some kind, kind of like a white jean jacket, maybe a tan jean jacket, had like masters on
this. And I was like, oh, I was just kind of looking at it from the front as she was walking by
me. I'm like, oh, I haven't seen that. That's kind of a cool, like masters. They're not selling
that. That says masters aren't? That looks like custom made. Turn around a giant mural of Brian
Campbell on the back that said Campbell underneath it. Like hand painted on there. And sure enough,
like I look at the board and Campbell was turning over to play the beginning the back nine, like clearly
his wife but just at a you will not miss i doubt she's wearing the jacket this week it's going to be 85
but congrats to brian campbell for making the cut if we get our hands on one of those that might be like the
now driving hat um if you haven't seen it yet where gary woodland hit it on the second hole uh he
which time which he was uh in the left rough on the seventh fairway uh trying to chip through
that was if i was to bend over backwards to make an excuse for scotty um like the pace on that
He had a very straightforward chip into the second green that like, you know, chip that up there, make your birdie, get your day going.
Like Woodland took forever, like forever, has his caddy aim pointing, you know, his bogey putt.
And it's just like just bad vibes on that on top of Big Shot Bob, just making a mess all over the place for two days.
We're bad mojo with that group.
But where Gary Woodland hit that shot and the shot tracker is not doing justice for how far right he hit his second shot.
You got to go back and watch actually watch the replay of that one.
I will apologize.
Oh, yeah. I think maybe we're on the same page here.
I'll apologize for Big Shot Bob.
I mentioned him as, you know, hey, watch this space.
Like he could easily win the Masters.
That was a dumb thing to say.
Very, very dumb thing to say.
He not only, he denies media two days in row.
Of course, flicked off the pond yesterday and then throws this up on his Instagram story of a gnome version of him flicking everybody off.
I'm sure that people saw that circulating on social media.
but just an absolute noam version there's a noem like a like a box gnome version of big shot bob like
flicking off like somebody made made an AI noam of him doing the middle finger thing and posted that
right to instagram after denying media after two days and missing the cut by a mile and just acting
quite petulant you want you want to do media come find me at the rage room yeah
demon's rage room if you could see that one yeah that's pretty funny there you go very very funny
but maybe not on the day when it's like,
I don't know.
I don't want to,
I feel hesitant to take the side of the green jackets,
like,
you know,
condemning behavior and we just simply can't be having that type of language type of,
type of stuff.
But,
uh,
yeah,
having that and then putting that up on Instagram was like a little bit of,
a little bit of a weird one.
Just tough.
He slammed his bag after hitting the water on 16.
It just made,
made a whole scene out of it.
It was just not,
not good.
You can do that.
Just talk to the media.
You know, like fulfill all your obligations and then make it joke.
Yeah, it's like, come on, man.
You got to be better than that.
This was, I don't know how you feel watching this deal, but I said this, sent this in.
We posted on Instagram and Roy went up and chipped in as soon as I said this.
But like, almost nobody knocks chips stone dead at Augusta.
Like, you know what I mean?
There's very few true gimmies.
It ends up rolling out enough that you got to put a coin on it.
And there's so many putts between like three and six.
six feet on this course.
It seems to happen there more than anywhere else.
I couldn't tell you exactly why.
Maybe it's just a little bit of detail in where they end up cutting the cups.
But I feel like this happens more here than anywhere else of like there's always some
kind of consequence.
And from long lag lag puts, it just seems to very rarely is it just very easy to clean up.
And that's just something I haven't thought of today.
I agree with you on the chipping.
It almost either goes in or, but it rarely is a, you know, a tap in.
another shout out to Brooks.
I thought his lag putting today was fantastic.
So that just made me think of that.
Like it was noticeably better than obviously Jordan and Rose.
He just made it a lot of comfy two puts.
I feel like I'm the tipping.
You're chipping up uphill so much.
Not like not up the grade,
but you're chipping up over a big mound so much that it almost is,
that's got to make it harder to stop close to the hole.
And then obviously just greens are firm and fast.
And it's hard to, you know,
you get on the wrong side and you're,
you're, if it's running away from you, it's just impossible.
It's hard to get close.
And it's not always going past.
It's just like, I just, man, guys are just struggled and chip it.
You see it on the PJ tour a lot.
Dude, just chip it like stone dead.
And it just does not seem to happen very much.
Which is why I thought that Rory, the Rory Chip 10 was just like, oh, that was going to be
six inches from the hole if it didn't go in.
That was a perfect chip.
And that stuck out because after watching guys chip all day long.
I watched Akshay chip it into the water on 13 from a really tough spot there.
just, I don't know if you, it was a tough pace day.
Like that was just tough.
That was going to be one of my wrap up notes.
Zander Bryson group was atrocious.
And I saw Steve Cox out there.
He was, they, I think they were on the, on the clock.
I guess maybe Zander had a ruling on 13.
So they were a whole and a half behind.
Like it was, the, where is this group?
It was Tommy and those guys were up, uh, hitting their, um, they were on 17, I think.
Like, it was slow for sure.
And they can't lay in Norrin that group at the end was.
just glacial yeah just just not a great not a great flow to the day out there watching in person
just kind of felt like everything was was kind of dragging uh i want to shout to the guys that
are working the bathroom uh behind the 16th hole do you have you have you visited that one
uh it also i mean honestly just all the bathroom attend but though on 16 they are like
auctioning off the stalls and like when you emerge from the stall after you've done your
business you get like a standing ovation from the crew like they get and they're counting you down
too. Like we got to keep it moving because I mean it's a six flags line out outside. So they're just they're just it's like a stand up comedy routine. And anybody that comes out. Yeah. Here we go. We got two's available. Two's available. Less peaking and more peeing gentlemen. It's a lot of one liners flying around. They're giving you're dapping you up on the way in. They're dapping you up on the way out. Everybody's got a good attitude. It's incredible. Everybody.
What do you think the correlation is there with nobody has phones on them?
I feel like that just massive.
Kind of generally puts people a lot.
A lot there, Ray, that I'd love to unpack at a later date.
I've been thinking a lot about it.
It's just from, I mean, everybody that works there, it's just, it's infectious.
Everybody's contagious.
Yeah, man.
It's really cool.
I think it was Sobel.
Jason Sobel had a post, too, that I'd never heard it put this way, but I thought it was
very smart that Augusta is one of the few places.
It's one of the, the masters is one of the few things you can experience in life
where everybody's exactly where they want to be.
You know, nobody, like, everybody is just like,
I can't believe I'm here.
This is,
this is exactly where I'm trying to be today.
Like a great example.
I just thought that was a very good way.
I was coming out out of the concession line,
looking for a candy bar,
couldn't find it.
And I got a water turn and I almost bumped in this guy and spilled all his beers.
You know, and like normally that'd be like, oh, my God, I'm sorry, though.
You know, the guy, I was like, man, I almost ruined your day.
He goes, nah, they're so cheap, it doesn't matter, man.
You know, she's like, ah, you know, yeah, brother.
You know,
nah.
Everybody's just jolly.
It's great.
Somebody said,
one of the,
the shuttle driver said this to me earlier this week.
Said,
here,
there's good days and there's better days.
Ah,
no,
no bad days.
Come on.
Come on.
That's working.
Come on.
That's good.
Um,
can we do a quick update?
Just,
I mean,
I haven't checked the standings of this.
I got,
I got one notebook thing.
I want to shout out.
Yeah,
I'd rather do that.
I'd check the standings.
Sorry.
Sorry.
No.
I was allowed.
That was saddics are horrible.
I also, I want to give a shout out to two guys.
The names are Henry and Alex, two brothers I met standing next to 13 Fairway.
They had their backs turn.
When I walked up, I saw him from a distance.
Scared up or what?
No, they were fitted up with the Malbin bird outfit.
Oh, sure.
Pants and shirt.
I was like, man, that's a great, like, like, how, I didn't know they were, I didn't even
know they were selling it.
I thought it was just kind of a, you know, a gimmick.
Turn, homie's wearing an NLU hat.
And I was like, oh, what's up?
And so I went over and talked to her from Dallas.
It was just, you know, a great interaction.
It just cracked me up.
I was like, what an immense co-lab.
That was on my, that was on my immense list there.
It just made my day.
I was like, just looking at the birds.
And I was admiring the birds.
I was like, there's the logo.
That's fantastic.
You'll have complimented two different people on their no laying up hats that just said,
oh, thanks.
I had absolutely no idea what they're actually wearing.
That's the best.
Oh, damn it.
all right cody let's take a look at the standings from our
on monday um i got fifth draft pick uh overall and you guys left rory for me there so i am
projected uh first overall nil second he's got p uh in there tc's got team rose uh sitting there
at in fourth place big randy comes in and fourth and deed did get two cut makers
geron rome came back and came back and made the cut and you got tommy in there in the top five
so you could clear a million bucks what a there
I mean, you guys got to just take this to task.
This is horrible.
Oh, it's for friend this.
But it was bad when you did it.
It's not bad now.
It was bad when you did it.
It seemed better.
Neil will ride with you.
Daniel Burger?
What were you?
Burger was bad.
But it's burger.
I mean,
Rom,
I still am like,
I don't really know how that happened yesterday.
But Bryson is like,
what did you think was going to happen?
Burger,
it was trying to talk to myself.
I keep trying to make Daniel Burger happen.
Min Woo Lee was just like,
dude,
what are you doing?
All you do it.
What are you doing?
What are you about?
Yeah.
It's just an idiot.
It's so stupid.
Hate this.
Solly, congratulations.
It's a hell of a squad.
I'm ready to call.
I'm ready to call our competition.
I think it's over.
And you know what?
It's good.
They're fine young men, too.
You got on that team.
You know,
that's a good team to coach.
Good team.
Better young man.
Yeah,
exactly right.
I'm proud of my squad.
I'm proud of,
you know,
my,
you just threw a fifth round in there.
I got Max in that one.
Yeah,
but yeah,
Neil had Akshay first over.
overall, that was, that was, that was, uh, first in his, or sorry, that was in round three.
Never mind. I'm going back to the draft board. I'm sorry. I regret it. I regret it.
I regret it. That was wrong. Neil took, uh, Scotty first overall. I think he took Scotty first.
I'm reading it wrong. I'm reading the, the, yeah, that hurts. It's on me.
Still, I would do it all over again. He was a great, great value at 10th overall there, though.
That was. Hell yeah. Uh, guys, what do you think? Anything else, uh, kind of in the, in the, in the annals of your
notebook that we need to go through? Should we cut it there?
Should we go watch tomorrow?
Well, we got to get Neil with Rory.
Yeah.
Have a chance.
After he gets that, should I do that for the for everybody?
Need Neil to get that morning candy bar.
He has to carry it all day long too.
Make sure it doesn't get melt because it might ruin the chewability of it.
Guys, I have a couple things while you think about what you need to your taskings for tomorrow are going to be.
First one, Austin Butler won a drawing yesterday.
still haven't emailed me.
Come on.
I think he might be on set.
Yeah, he might be busy.
That's true, man.
If he doesn't, I don't know, maybe I give him until Sunday morning.
They're doing the last June movie right now, I think.
To come back around.
Yeah, give him another day, Cody.
You know, we're limited on codes here.
And speaking of codes, guys, today's drawing is, is Team Rose.
So I'm going to draw this.
I do, uh, I got codes for tonight, tomorrow.
And then, of course, Sunday we'll see if Austin comes back around.
I appreciate everybody getting involved in the live chat while we're here.
congratulations Ethan Sadler
2048
please email me
is he running
email me at Cody at no legup dot com
open change for Ethan Sadler
he's just set up
he's running
anyway guys what's your plan for tomorrow
I don't know we got P and Rose
in the second to last group
I think it's final group and penultimate
group right yeah I mean watching
Rory and watching Rose. Yeah. It's hard work. It is tough. You got to like get ahead.
We've got a two best men on it. Well, I'm saying like it's difficult to see.
It's an immense job already. It's a big ask, okay? It's an immense task for us. It's extremely
difficult to see. Like it is hard work, which I think is why I would probably pick,
if there's any chance, it's going with Patrick Reed's group. It's just blessed people are going to
care. Good point. But you've got Rose just, you know, ham it up. There's going to be
line out the door to go see that show tomorrow.
I love to follow groups when I go to tournaments
and it has taken me three go-rounds of this tournament
to learn like this is not a good tournament to follow people.
Like it's straight up bad.
Like we can't go inside the ropes one and like the routes don't support it.
You could see them on a few featured holes.
Like there's good holes to see people but like you're better off trying to see a couple
groups play that same set of holes than you are trying to see one group play every
hole because you're just working too hard.
of like and get to you get to some of these holes and it's really crowded when you get there and you don't have a good view so it's i did find a couple chairs uh they were empty uh right of nine uh fairway like in the trees in the shade uh on the hill wonderful and they just had this like panoramic view of the the amphitheater of nine the clubhouse and i was just like man this is like what are these are a couple of legends who's ever chairs these are i sat down for a little while it was great it was fantastic
Then, like, you know, I, now am I going to do that tomorrow?
No, but I think that that would, that sounds like an ideal day tomorrow is to find a spot like that.
Where it's like, yeah, let's just watch somebody come through like a random hole like nine.
There are so many spots when you're walking out there that are just like, dude, this just like, I was walking in the evening as Tommy's group was coming around.
And I got around like to the left of 17T looking back through the trees at 16 green.
That's setting with all the people in the pond there.
It just looks like unlike anything my eyes have ever laid.
I've ever laid eyes on.
It just looks like a movie set.
It just,
it's insane.
It's so hard to describe.
And you want to take a picture of it and you obviously can't.
I know we've all seen a gazillion pictures of Augusta,
but I just,
something about the way the light hits that color of grass and the yellow flags and the white
sand.
Like it is,
it is epic.
And you feel that in so many different places around there.
But that spot today,
I was just like,
man,
this is,
you know,
hot take.
Augusta is really pretty.
But it,
you know,
whatever,
30,
30 loops I've made around this place by now,
like walking it through different days.
and it still just blows you away.
Sorry.
If you guys are not one to be in the massive humanity
around the final two groups,
I would say a couple of fun pairing.
Scotty is playing with Ludwig earlier in the day.
Do we want to discuss Ludwig?
Where's he at here?
Some strikes and gutters today?
Two under 70?
T-24.
Capital C conversation.
But I think,
We need somebody else to be here for that.
Yeah, I know we had, we had,
TC had scheduled the conversation for tonight when he was not here,
but he appears to be active in the comments.
I just saw.
Oh, God.
Yeah, we could maybe revisit that one tomorrow.
We'll say tomorrow's the day.
I think all the data was inconclusive today, Randy.
You know?
Sure.
We throw it the whole round out.
Max is playing with Benny Booms.
That's a fun little.
It's a good one.
Two ball and then the two beefy boys.
Got her up and Kepka are playing together.
Yeah, go watch.
maybe go watch one of those early groups and then and then circle back for the leaders playing the
the second nine might be the speed and sep will be well but we'll both be out with that one i'm sure
is that that's how you guys are telling us that sounds great too uh dege one thing real quick i can't
remember who told me this but i think they the masters has some ai touchups going on on some of these
head shots here uh and the reason why i bring this if you look really closely at ryan gerard
it appears that the grip of his golf club is an umbrella grip
Yeah, it does.
It's not good.
Oh, God, you're right.
What are we doing, man?
What is that?
It's not good.
A little bit of an added to the list, guys.
Can we just double click on that?
I don't know how I do that.
I don't know how I can.
Yeah, that's bad.
It restricts me.
Now I don't want to get flayed because all these videos are showing.
What are we doing?
That's a Sunday conversation, too.
we'll see if I can get a bigger one for us.
Oof. Yeah, no, I'm looking at it up close.
It's, that's tough.
That is tough.
Not good.
Cody, good spot or good pass along for whoever spotted it.
All right.
If we're getting into the Ryan Gerard Photoshop, I think it's time to probably
call it.
Shut it down.
Randall, let's go.
Guys, great day.
Congrats to, congrats to Rory on his master's victory.
We will be here after each round, Saturday and Sunday.
I hope you guys have a hell of.
of a day. Neil, go find a candy bar.
And we will talk to everybody
tomorrow.
Please throw a thumb on the video on your way out.
Please subscribe. Please, please, please, please.
Please, please.
Please, please.
Please, please.
Very, very good.
Thank you to Titleist. High noon and Arcos.
We'll be back tomorrow night.
Cheers.
Overseed.
