Starting point is 00:00:00 Be the right club today. That's better than most. How about him? That is better than most. Better than most. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Laying Up Live show presented as always by our friends at Titleist Friday.
Starting point is 00:00:46 U.S. Open round two. A little bit of round one in there. Recap coming to you now. I am Salli, joined by my colleagues, Mr. DJ Pye. Hello, DJ. Hello, Sall. good to be with you. Exciting day out there.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Lots to talk about. Let's get into it. Let's get it on. T.C. is here. Hello, TC. Hey, Sally.
Starting point is 00:01:03 I'm coming down from that cut watch. That took on NBC. It took MBC a while to pick up on that. And then they bounced pretty quickly. I'm not sure they totally understood it. They were very concerned of whether or not Dylan Wu moved the cut line. They exited the premises before they found out if he made the cut. He did.
Starting point is 00:01:25 the seven footer to make the cut there. The Nolayup Live show brought to you by titles to number one ball at the U.S. Open for 78 straight years and counting and the most played driver, iron and wedge this week at Shinnock. Any questions? That part was not in the copy, but that's it. Just a statement there from our friends at Titleist. We are going to talk a lot about what happened today.
Starting point is 00:01:49 We're going to, of course, talk Wyndham Clark and the, you know, the unfortunate incident that happened to him last year. I don't think we've broken that one down yet. What he did this past few weeks, a lot of the movers up the board, a lot of the great rounds today, some guys that didn't have the best rounds, going to go down the leaderboard, some pleasant surprises as well, some kind of random news and notes. We will be having an appearance here shortly from McGrito,
Starting point is 00:02:12 who was on the grounds out there. Maybe even a guest, Colin, who knows, a lot to get to today. Deeds, where are we going first? Little Niro's just to live with Neil's pizza. He's in the green room eating his pizza. We got a we got a lot to get to today. I think we of course got to start with the guy who's leading by four shots. Wyndham Clark, T.C.'s guy Dub,
Starting point is 00:02:31 alone at the top at minus seven. Gentlemen, we got 10 players under par after 36 holes at the U.S. Open at Shinnock. Just to level set for you a little bit. This is fewer players than we had under par at the halfway point in 2004. There were 11 players under par that year before they unfortunately lost golf course. So fingers crossed that we've got some of that coming this weekend. 2018 at the halfway. We lost the golf course the last couple days, though, as well.
Starting point is 00:03:00 In the other direction. We found where the other side is. In 2018, there was one player under par at this point. 1995, there were six players under par. 1986, there was one player under par. So considering the wind, considering the softness, considering the defensiveness that the USJ has put out, we're still pretty in line with,
Starting point is 00:03:22 we're maybe a little on the higher side, but it's an interesting, interesting comparison, I thought to those previous years. The 36-hole lead in 2004 was minus six, Shigeki Mariama and Phil Mickelson, so one-shot lower than the blow pig finds himself. Good stat here over the last 30 years at the U.S. Open.
Starting point is 00:03:42 27 of the winners, all but three, have been within two of the lead after 36 holes. Obviously, nobody is within two of the lead at this point. Take that for what you will. But do you guys know the exceptions? Do you guys that came from behind? Can I get, well, I was going to say,
Starting point is 00:03:58 Lucas Glover must be one. It wasn't Ricky Barnes. He was not one of them. Maybe Ricky Barnes had like a seven shot lead at one point in that US open. But, I mean, WebSems. Weirdly after the, after the midway point. It might have been. Webb Simpson's one.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Webb Simpson is one of them. Brooks, actually, in 2018, was five back of the lead at Chinnacock. and Fitz at the country club was three back, which he finds himself four back right now. So a familiar place for him. I mean, guys, we got to start with Wyndham Clark. He's seven under par.
Starting point is 00:04:30 He's driving it. He's driving it nice in spots. He's driving it horrible in spots. It's a very captivating storyline developing. I find he's at 21 of 28 fairways through 36 holes. Didn't miss a fairway today until the 13th hole and then just completely lost it and missed four in a row, but was able to kind of hang on during that.
Starting point is 00:04:48 any consequences whatsoever, which seems to be a theme with Wyndham. That's a good one. That's a good joke. All right. He got one. He got a jabbit. That's a good one. Yeah, to your point, T.C., missed big left on 13, then hit it to 25 feet, missed big right on 14, hit it to 12 feet, big left on 15, hit it to 25 feet, and then drove it in the bunker, chopped it around, made a bogey on the par 5 16th. But what, Sally, let's start with you. big macro Wyndham Clark, how we feel and how we look in, what's on your mind?
Starting point is 00:05:22 He's played great golf. Look, he was on the good side of the draw. We know that, but there were, you know, 80 some golfers or whatever it is, 77 other golfers that were on the good side of the draw as well that are not sitting here at 7 under par through 36 holes. You must give him his flowers. He took advantage of the great wave that he got on Thursday night. That's where he made up a lot of his differential. We played another solid round of golf today. It was kind of looking, kind of stuck in neutral there for most of the afternoon of the morning, I guess, until he kind of made those three birdies in the last six holes. It is, of course, going to hopefully, and we're not getting into setup talk yet. We're not doing that yet. But God willing, this golf course will change here over the next 48 hours into a different test to the point where.
Starting point is 00:06:11 I heard this place dries down. we're going to talk about that he's driven it well to the point where it's not like he's getting away with murder he got away with some stuff but like he's overall he's driven the ball you know quite well i don't think it's like quite a brice in 2024 pinehurst situation yet uh but it's just the questions that are going to get asked are going to be totally different and the test is going to be totally different and it's going to be it's we're 50% the way through the golf golf tournament but i'd say we're in reality 30% through uh in terms of how much fluctuation i think we're hopefully going to see here over the the next two days. I'm holding out hope for that. T.C., where your thoughts? I'll leave it to Wyndham. He said, I really felt like I could be in double digits, but you know, the great thing about that is I didn't feel like I had my best, and I am still leading as of right now. Hopefully I can bring my A game on the weekend. That's good stuff. USAJ should feel very proud of what they've put forth the last couple of days. So I think you're going to rely a lot on on wave splits today. I think you are going to rely on wave splits. I think there's, I think there, no, statistics from the wave splits. I think there's,
Starting point is 00:07:16 there's different parts of the wave as well. And I think, I think the smash and grab looting that, that Wyndham did last night, uh, I can't unsee that. And props to him for taking advantage of it. Um, but, you know, again, he's a smash and grab specialist. I find myself, uh, I don't want to say it's my storyline A. I don't want to say, this is what I would have picked out of the hat, you know, if I, if I had, if I could get whatever I wanted this week. But I can talk myself into can Wyndham hold on to a big lead at a hard ass golf course into being a captivating, a captivating story over the next 36 holes. I think it's, it's a place where if you're going to have those big wide misses like he did on the back nine today, you start tucking some of those whole locations. You start firming things up over the weekend. And it is harder to hit those to 25 feet feet and two put and get out of there with parts. It's going to be, it's going to be interesting to see if he can hang on and if he can, if he can battle the driver, which again, we said it last night has been, it's both the superpower when it's working and it's also a total liability when it's not. So I find that to be kind of, kind of interesting. And I also would give him some flowers on being patient. I mean, he is a person. I know it was not everybody's favorite, favorite U.S. Open at LACC, but he's done this before. He didn't, you know, it could have kind of got off the rails. He could. just started forcing it a little bit today missed a short putt on nine a little bit of a scuffle on 10 and just couldn't like kind of get it into gear uh and stays patient keeps doing the same stuff
Starting point is 00:08:52 over and over stays patient through that stretch where he was not driving it great and uh finds himself with a big ass lead so i mean you you got to you got to commend him in a big way i know everybody uh keeps bringing up the the oakmont stuff and uh you know the club magenta things and and all of that I don't know how much of that is like a, how much of that is a thing, how much of that is a story, how much we need to keep putting somebody in Twitter jail versus just watching the golf tournament.
Starting point is 00:09:19 But I don't know what you guys, what you guys think about that. I think that, like, I think that if we're going to talk about the weekend, like let's not look backward at what the, um, the setup was the last couple of days.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Do we think that they're going to turn the screws a little bit tomorrow? Because I think Boddenham, or just kind of set the table the last couple of days of, hey, there's not going to be any humidity in the air tomorrow or a lot less humidity. The wind is coming from a different direction. Like it was like he went out of his way on Wednesday night, Thursday, even this morning to kind of set the table for like, hey, we're not going to push it until Sunday. So I'll be really curious to see if and and I would imagine that they get some pressure from internal stakeholders to hey let's let's ramp this thing up a little bit now that you know we're we're down to the top 60 and ties
Starting point is 00:10:18 and and yeah and and I think with Wyndham it's yeah like I don't want to drag the guy for one incident it's a it's a it's a lifetime achievement award a career award so that's just kind of where I'm at there. And the fact that like it's still like you didn't take accountability for even the one incident, much less the other ones as well. So it's, you know, like I'm yeah, I'm not rooting for you, bud. Which I think it's fine. Not everybody has to be the, you don't have to cheerlead everybody. You know, I think that's part of what makes watching golf fun. And Torrico tried to do it today. And then Noda went out of his way to do it today and acting like, hey, this, this happened to Windham. No, he went into the fucking locker room and smashed things up.
Starting point is 00:11:06 And then blamed me for it getting out instead of... And the USGA. Kisner blamed the USDA. It's insane. And yeah, like, we'll do Kisner later. That, I mean, but yeah, just, I don't know. I think Wendom's like everything that's wrong with professional sports in 2026. Very representative of that.
Starting point is 00:11:28 We have a little clip of him talking about some of this. If we want to play, uh, he was asked about. this cop holder asked him about this in the press conference afterward. Obviously last year there was the incident at at Oakmont and you've addressed that and everything. I'm just curious about how much you feel like maybe fans perception has changed of you or people within golf has the perception of you change or can you feel any of that? Yeah I mean I've gotten a lot of grief all you know since last year uh rightfully so
Starting point is 00:11:58 the thing that's unfortunate is that's not who I am what happened last year and And I'm hoping I could win back the fans that I had or some new fans because, you know, I'm, it was a terrible incident. And, you know, I really feel like I can show people that I'm fun and outgoing. I'm fierce, competitive, love the game, respect the game. And I just had a bad moment. So hopefully I can win those people back. And, yeah, I definitely feel like I'm in a better place. And, you know, hopefully a great weekend and great rest of the year.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Maybe I'll gain all those fans back. it's interesting a year later you're saying it's a terrible incident it took him took him that long uh what about the decapitate or the near decapitation hollow as well yeah he could have done himself a lot more favors in the past of being more owning owning it more like showing like um you know it is taken a really long time to even get him to talk about it in that way but again it's like it is a big I don't know. I feel like he is paying a big punishment for, you know, some bad incidents, but like a lot of players do have bad incidents. And it feels like he's getting it worse. I don't know. Maybe I don't dislike Wyndham. He's not my favorite player to watch or root for,
Starting point is 00:13:15 but I, it does feel like he's getting maybe just a smidge harder than he deserves. I'm partially responsible for that. Like, it's like at every turn, it's like as like as a fan, we've been almost told like, no, like what you saw or what you witnessed here isn't actually what happened. And it's like we're getting the wool pulled over our eyes every time. And then nine months later, there's this flip of like, oh, you know what? I did mess up. But I'm not actually going to apologize or do anything of actual contrition to the club or to anybody. And like I acted like the victim. And but you know what? I want everybody to forgive me and it's time to move forward. I mean, you remember in the press conference when he said like, you know, yeah, like it's time to
Starting point is 00:13:58 move forward, you know, that's in the past. It's like, no, you don't get to dictate that, dude. So there was, it was some of the worst, um, just, I don't know, like PR advice I've ever seen anyone get, or maybe he just ignored everybody that was giving him advice. But either way, I think the guy is like a total phony and a total fraud. I think some of the stuff that, uh, where this comes from is what you mentioned with the broadcast. And I mean, not to put it all on them, but it's just, everybody has such muscle memory with like the redemption narrative. And I think, at least for me personally, I'm like, man, it's just not that interesting with this one.
Starting point is 00:14:35 Like, it's not like, he's not crawling back from the depths of, of whatever. He didn't like, wasn't in jail. It's just like, yeah, man, he did have a couple bad incidents and yeah, that sucked and and I'm not a big fan of him, but I'm like, I am a little more interested in like, well, his game completely fell off after winning a major. Like, let's talk about that. That's kind of interesting. You know, it doesn't have to automatically default to.
Starting point is 00:14:56 well, first, you know, just the, I like humanizing these guys, but it doesn't always have to default to the human interest story. You know, I think with him, it's like the golf story is pretty interesting. He was, he was a really bad iron player when he first kind of came out on tour. He was kind of a bomb and gougy type of guy. And he completely turned it around in 2023 and massively upped his game, won a major, started showing up in a lot more like big ticket events. And then the iron play completely fell off again. And there's some interesting stuff with him, too, about, you know, not wanting to have a swing coach, wanting to do it himself because he didn't want to get too technical with swing thoughts. And he didn't want to lose himself in his own head. And now finally over the last like six months has started working with another guy, Pat Conyer, I think is his name from Cherry Hills.
Starting point is 00:15:47 And there's good stuff out there about that where I'm like, I'm like, that's an interesting story. You know, the turnaround there. And especially as it ratchets up and the golf course gets firm is like, can the iron play? stick around. I'm like, that's more interesting to me than did he, like, did he write Bob four to a handwritten letter? I'm like, I don't fucking care about this anymore. Bob four retired. So it's, you know, but I think with Wyndham too, maybe there's just a visceral, I test dissonance there with like, I think that's true. I feel like some of it is like, I, I, I think this guy is getting crowned by modern golf equipment. And I don't, like, I think he would be
Starting point is 00:16:24 spinning the ball off the planet. Like, he should. should have it on 18 at LACC or just some of the misses are just I'm like man like I just I just don't see it and I don't like the putter he uses I just don't like it I don't like any of it take it all away he's going to play an offense that's why I think it you know it's we can have this conversation now the 36 hole mark because if it does get I think the USGA is extra incentivized to get it faster and firmer it is because I don't think yeah after that incident last year they're super I don't think shouldacock members are kind of necessarily love having William Clark as a champ on that golf course when they have the list of winners that they have.
Starting point is 00:17:02 And they are more heavily incentivized to make this more difficult heading into the weekend. Yeah, if I'm Stan Druck and Miller, I'm making the call tonight. He's not winning at both my clubs, Oakmont and Chinatock. We have, I believe, somebody in the bullpen that I believe is ready. I think so, yeah, kind of an opener situation. I see if we can get some long relief out of our guy out of the day out. there in the Hamptons. Gentlemen,
Starting point is 00:17:30 can you hear me? We can. The whole world can hear you, Neil. It's good to be with you. Yes, Little Neros did deliver my pizza. God, did we need that pie? It was hot. It was dusty.
Starting point is 00:17:42 It was a big day out of Chinatcock. The Baluga has breached near the Peconic Bay. Keep an eye out, folks. A lot of, lot to talk about. TC, God, just light your boy up, man. Let him, let him have it. I feel like the Norman Rockwell guy.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Windham doesn't offend me that much. Can I just stand up like the, you know, the painting of like the guy stands up and says something brave? Neil, he even offends me as a fly fisherman talking to like fly fishing guides out in Colorado. I mean, it goes that deep with me. Fair enough. I would say, Saul, you said he's good at playing offense. I was actually in the bullpen thinking, I think he's proven he plays defense pretty well, both at Wells Fargo, his first win in Charlotte was really kind of held off the field.
Starting point is 00:18:27 then at LACC, I know had a big right miss on 18, but, you know, kind of held it together, you know, fending off like the best players in the world. So, you know, it's, like setup wise. I just mean like on when he can flex and go get out and run on a golf course, he's very, very good at that. And when, like, does he have all the technical, like if he gets into some hairy situations, is he, is like, oh, Wyndham can get up and down from any, no, I don't say that about Wyndham ever.
Starting point is 00:18:53 Like when he's got it in position, he's an excellent, excellent, excellent player when he's got it going. But like, if it gets hairy this weekend, I would not be surprised to see him go backwards. Which is what I think, I think you can sell me as captivating. And T.C., you can sell me what you're saying about modern equipment is captivating.
Starting point is 00:19:08 I think that there's a, I think there's a real push and pull between like when it really, really ramps up, is he, can he get away with it? Or can he, can he, can he, keep the iron play in,
Starting point is 00:19:19 in position? Because if you really think about it, it's like, we're way to, to, far ahead of ourselves to start playing like how far back is too far back but i know it's only one guy up there i know you can make double bogies you can do all that stuff but i mean if your math it's patrick would you take even par would you take 70 70 on the weekend to get to to get to
Starting point is 00:19:42 like post three under i just don't trust the i think you got to go under par tomorrow and then i'd take even par on sunday i think they're going to i think they're going to firm it up for Sunday. I just don't, I don't trust them to do it tomorrow. I'm just saying, let's say, let's say it's four under is, is the is the number. It's like, God, Windham can go two over one over over the next couple days is like, sounds pretty pretty doable, man. I don't know. I mean, I guess that's where I lean on this leaderboard. It's a really good leaderboard. It is. I just don't know how much. I don't know. It's like the, it's like the, Xander. It's like the axis of evil. I mean, Morikawa.
Starting point is 00:20:22 No monkey bars. Yeah. These are global powers here. We need to mention. Yeah, I did say, I did say before that I liked Tom Kim in this event. I do want to call that in. But yeah, I mean, Morikawa, J.T. showed a lot of battle today.
Starting point is 00:20:38 We'll talk, we'll talk about Harry Higgs in a bit. Burns. Yeah, Sahith, Chairman Mao, country music sensation writer, Cowan. Stuck around. We got a whole. Roy's there. Scott, he's there. Peloton at even.
Starting point is 00:20:53 We got what, I don't know, 14 guys at even and then, yeah, we got another bunch of guys at plus one. I mean, how far back is too far back? That's what I'm kind of trying to say. Exactly. He's dictating the pace right now for sure.
Starting point is 00:21:12 I mean, Scottie, all right, like, would you take Scotty at even, scuffling Scotty a little bit or Wyndham? Scottie played nice today, I thought. he was not nearly as scuffly as he was yesterday. I'm just kind of trying to say, like, do we think Wyndham and who knows, every day is different? He could blow up. He's blown up at majors this year even.
Starting point is 00:21:33 So maybe he goes 76, 72. Like, that seems very possible. But the way he's hitting it right now, like, is he going to go worse than 72, 72, which puts him at three under, which means Scotty's got to go 68, 69 to tie him? Like there's a, I don't know, you start, you start doing the math on it and it can get, the field gets small fast. What's interesting and I think is not good is, wind is going to be like looks to be the strongest in the morning tomorrow. And if they are going to play it safe with set up, like it's going to get, I mean, 15 miles an hour or whatnot when the leaders go off. You know, it's a lot less. So if you got to set the course up soft in some way to get through a little bit of a wind.
Starting point is 00:22:19 windy morning like it's going to be quite getable tomorrow afternoon which uh is again where i'm hoping hoping they change things but uh we uh we have someone i believe in waiting here uh do we still have them oh there he is oh there let's let's uh yeah let's bring him in right now the sitting in t7 right now on the leaderboard 7168 friend of the program long time friend of the program mr harry higgs how we doing sir rig hey guys I'm doing great. How are y'all? We're doing excellent now that you're here with us. Did you see this coming?
Starting point is 00:22:56 Did you see this golf coming? You had a great press conference. We're going to play a clip from you after. I don't know. Maybe in a way, yes. I did some good golf in lovely Amarillo, Texas last week. But to go from Amarillo to Shinnock is no. is pretty
Starting point is 00:23:21 jarring and I don't know yeah they're both windy I was and it was Amarillo was firm and it was hard because it was just kind of corky
Starting point is 00:23:31 this is just hard because it's just flat out hard can you run through I was reading your press conference today and your transcript can you run through literally getting from Amarillo
Starting point is 00:23:42 to Shinnecock because it sounds like it was a nightmare it sounds like a trapter oh man less than ever American Airlines Mine's favorite.
Starting point is 00:23:54 Amarillo. Salim might cut you off here. Okay, okay. We actually run out of time here. Good luck this weekend. Amarillo to Dallas, sat down. Well, one made it, like, pissed off and didn't sign a few kids golf balls and just got straight in the car and drove to the airport.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Fortunately, by some miracle, it was only like 72 degrees in Amarillo on Sunday. day so I wasn't just a nasty sweaty mess. But no, so right as they're about to close the door, I figure, sorry, I get an alert that my flight from Dallas to LaGuardia is canceled. So that's a bummer. And I'm sitting there, sitting there, and they rebook me on a flight. So I'm still got to get from Amarillo to Dallas. And then they put me on a flight from Dallas to Charlotte, stay the night at a courtyard
Starting point is 00:24:48 Marriott in Charlotte. What, for about four and a half hours? Woke up. And, uh, went in a, yeah, got up here at,
Starting point is 00:24:59 I think I landed about nine o'clock. Did your luggage make it? Yes. So I should have mentioned that in the press conference. And I know, boy, we can dog airlines. And like,
Starting point is 00:25:11 one of my bags was sent to Miami Sunday night. This was all Sunday night into my, but it was legit. Like, the other one was just on. all the flights with me. It showed up the same time that the bags that was on the right plane showed up too. So I just grabbed my stuff, rolled over to Avis in LaGuardia. Then the getting out here on the Long Island was tough. Big drive. Big drive. A few stops. Again, eight months old.
Starting point is 00:25:41 So we stopped at Target for formula. Oh, you got the kid with you. Oh, my God. No, no, no, sorry. No, I did all that. They came the next day. I did all the nonsense myself. But I tried to ease the packing for them and get some formula, you know, some distilled water or chew toys. What are we? We're into pouches and we're into puffs so we can learn how to chew. Yeah, all that nonsense.
Starting point is 00:26:08 And then I stopped at Whole Foods and got some stuff for me. And I cruised out. Yeah, I hit a few puts on Monday. Came on wet sleep. All right. We can do this for a long time. God, that's so relatable, Harry, thank you for that. That's good stuff.
Starting point is 00:26:26 Yeah, you got it. You got it. Take me to long left of 11 today. What you're thinking when you see that ball and what happened from there. I thought I hit a good shot, but like, I started the week with my second, or sorry, yeah, second shot into 10 on Thursday was hit, thought it was great, saw it back, ounce, claps, groans, laughs. So like, that's not good.
Starting point is 00:26:55 So we tried to keep it just claps and groans, ideally just claps for the rest of Thursday and into the day. Well, 11 was, I thought I hit a good shot, it was silent, so that was a new one. Silent on 11 is not good. I'd rather than groan, because that means it's probably has blown off or spun off into the right bunker, which we can.
Starting point is 00:27:17 can do some stuff from the right bunker. You can, you can probably make four. Yeah, I was, and then, yeah, I saw hit a good, good shot, got the wind wrong, much more down, hit the wrong club, long left on 11, no good. Didn't really like the lie, it was pretty firm and kind of bare, so it's like, well, I guess I'm just going to try to put this and lay it up. And then I hit it, obviously, I hit the putt hard enough, but my whole, my whole, goal was to put it like 15 feet left of it. But I hit it a tiny bit too soft. So it started
Starting point is 00:27:55 breaking right, breaking right, breaking right, up the hill, which I thought it was going to continue to break right and, you know, go further off the green. But right at the kind of last second, it just had gotten on top and it started going down to the left. And then my big old self was running up the hill. And I saw the last like foot and a half of it and it just disappeared. And I kind freaked out yeah so not a good spot definitely gonna and i shoot i tried um today uh definitely gonna air on that short bunker but uh kickoff is so dumb who knows harry what uh just looking at your stats and just kind of yeah what are they haven't seen them like you're in an you're i think you're in an interesting place because it's like you're playing you know a little bit of pGA tour
Starting point is 00:28:44 a lot of corn fairy kind of between you're stuck between two things your iron play seems like it's really good your iron stats are like your approach stats are top 15 20 in the field this week so far despite that shot on 11 like that's that's like that seems like it's sustainable and i i boned a wedge on 14 over the green too so that wasn't great what's your mindset coming into this week is it i So like three or four weeks ago, I finally set some alignment sticks on the ground and stopped like bashing my head in about like, oh, this feels like shit. I don't like the way my swing feels. And still, and it has started to feel a lot better over the last like month or so. But then in that, like, okay, so like obviously alignment sticks at a target, straight shot.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Let's go, you know, shift our target right and draw it and shift our target left and draw it. And I just feel like I have all of the shots that are required. And that's just been for like a month or so, just like, all right, highs and lows and draws and fades. Like I just feel, it's just like probably simply more athletic than anything else and stop really worrying about my arms being pinned to my chest and like, yeah, more athletic. And I've certainly swung it better as the weeks going on even here. I swung it pretty good in Amarillo last week, despite not really liking how it feels.
Starting point is 00:30:12 The big man really likes to feel a certain way. I need to get away from that and just like, do the shot, man. Like, whatever you got to do, just do the shot. And again, I think I said this at Augusta a couple years ago when I played and had a decent amount of success. Like, can you kind of stop thinking about your swing? because the shot in front of you is so damn hard. Like, okay, well, it can only, you know, the shot, like, I mean, the shot on 11 is so scary,
Starting point is 00:30:42 but the shot on seven, like, you know, is in off the left or, or sorry, in off the right or kind of hard off the right. Like, that ball has got to hold up on that wind, and it's got to land just a little short and right. Like, there's really, there's not a whole lot of choices if you want to get the ball in a place where you can make, a relatively easy par or obviously have a birdie look.
Starting point is 00:31:09 Yeah, so I feel like I've been a little bit more athletic and then I feel like I believe that I was going to execute the shot that I had planned out. I was reading through your presser again, which was Fuego, one of my favorite press conferences in a while. We got some clips that we'll play after you leave so you don't get embarrassed watching yourself. But you're talking about being nervous on the first tee. Talk me through that. You've been a pro golfer for a long time.
Starting point is 00:31:38 Yeah. And just what is, what's this week mean? What is, what is, how does it stack up? Especially has you been kind of clawed, call for status and you, does it feel like you're kind of back in, you know, back on track one, so to speak here? What, what, talk me through the nerds. No. I've never been on track one.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Ah, the tracks. Yeah. Who, who the hell knows? These guys, let's hope in 15 years this was the right decision. I guess we'll find out. It wasn't supposed to be a loaded question. I'm more just like, tell me about the nerves today. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:09 Yeah. For me, nervous is kind of like my swing gets a little short and gets a little rushed. And then like just tension, overall tension in my body. I usually feel it in my legs. Then they then feel like really heavy and stuck. Like I'm not even going to move. Yeah. And I did a pretty good job.
Starting point is 00:32:30 Like as I was walking into my T-shot on one basically saying like, screw it, who cares, let it rip. And I hit a nice shot. And then I don't think I did a great job of getting settled into the approach shot on the first. And got a nice break that it held onto the left side of the green. And then I hit it five feet by, which was not great because now a sudden I'm playing two and a half feet of break in the wind on Poena greens from five feet. And that one was like a nervy. It's just a nervy putt.
Starting point is 00:33:01 But I kind of like, again, as I got over the ball, this is the spot you're rolling it over. Just do that. It doesn't matter how it feels. It doesn't matter if you're all 10. Like, focus on this spot and hold the pup. Or just focus on the spot, really. If it goes in the damn hole, great.
Starting point is 00:33:18 And really, after that, it kind of switched. Like, I had a pretty good shot into two, and then it rolled off just to the right in between the two bunkers. And I hit a nice pitch and hold another good, like, six footer for par. and then after that, I felt like the Lord himself was swinging for me. Like, I just, part of it was like, don't be an idiot and go at every flag, but I feel like I could. So it's just, what do I do? What do I do? Yeah, I just, right, right then and there, I was like, all right, let's keep our chin up, you know, no matter what happens, like I, like I said, and shoulders back and walk around like you own this place.
Starting point is 00:33:58 and I'm really if this is the only day that that ever happens again in my career then cool this was a really awesome experience but boy dang I thought that was going to be good with a cliffhanger did we lose it in my back
Starting point is 00:34:18 no we can hear your audio but we can hear you you've maybe fly too close to the sun there oh man I hear you can you hear us you sound like like a little toy talking this is so weird we've lost your image but we can still hear you i think we can okay uh harry pop out of the studio real
Starting point is 00:34:44 quick and then come right back in no probably not sorry talking about why she's telling me do i need her phone saving the day help me with pants earlier in the week yeah so you're going to have any long pants going on you have so many more questions about the pants i mean come on now i can't hear you guys darn it sorry can you can you pop out of the studio and come back. Can you hear that? Yeah, I'll try it. All right. Sorry, everyone. This is this is live TV. But we can play it. We can play the good stuff.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Actually, we can get that. This is perfect. Take the stream yard, baby. This is perfect. A shout out to our friends at High Noon, vodka Seltzer, vodka iced tea, tequila seltzer. No matter of the occasion, high noon has something for you. What are you guys drinking tonight? Harry, that was actually really well time. We were overdue for that ad break anyways. Thank you. Harry, can you hear us?
Starting point is 00:36:21 Can you hear us? He's about to freak out on that thing and just start screaming at it. We'll be able to hear it. All right. I think this is unfortunate. I think this is it. I think we got to call it, my friend. Thank you very much.
Starting point is 00:36:36 Best of luck, 312. I think tomorrow with Justin Thomas. we will be greatly look forward to watching that. If you did miss the shorts, if you did miss the shorts thing, he accidentally showed up to the golf course today wearing shorts,
Starting point is 00:36:49 just was on autopilot, as you can tell from the travel stuff, from the, from the kid stuff. It's just been a bit of a circus. He's back one more time. Should you try one more time? One more try.
Starting point is 00:37:03 Harry, are there? Harry, we can see you. Where's the case for these? All right, all right. He's got to go. before he gets I love it. I love it.
Starting point is 00:37:18 I love it. Yeah, showed up. He said that he said that he realized when he got there he started walking through the locker room like, oh shit, I have shorts on. What am I going to do?
Starting point is 00:37:29 He had to borrow a pair of pants from one of the Daryl survey guys for a couple hours until his wife could bring him some new pants. Just a great, a great story. Hey, man, can I get those slacks? it sounded like it was going to be uh yeah according to him his words if he had to wear those pants all day it was i don't think he was going to shoot 68 it would have been uh it would have been touch and go
Starting point is 00:37:54 but uh he ended up finding finding some fresh pair but so i know we we have a a clip of him maybe before we move off of of him he you could kind of hear some allusions to it the shoulders back head up uh type stuff i i think he's he's putting in a lot of work on the mental game he kind of uh had some words to that effect in the presser afterwards. And really from the third whole on, I was like, you know what? I can handle all this. This is fine. I'm going to walk with my shoulders back and my head held high no matter what happens.
Starting point is 00:38:26 And I just kind of like every step just kept telling myself, I'm, you know, again, shoulders back, head up. I'm not going to whine and bitch and moan at every single thing. If it doesn't go my way or I hit a poor shot, I'm just not going to let myself. kind of degrade myself enough to where I I'm I feel small and insignificant and I'm not trying to say that I'm certainly not significant but I I'd like to be a factor here and again there's a lot of golf left but I can be if I can just choose to be a factor if the golf goes my way and the result goes my way great but like I can choose to just like hey you don't have to be a small insignificant
Starting point is 00:39:08 piece of the one 56 that was playing here even though I think I think I was 156 of 156. Like I can be a part of this. I have done this before. Yeah, long answer. I probably still need a little bit of time to reflect on all that, but I'm looking forward to trying to do it again tomorrow. What an awesome outlook of like instead of trying to fast forward through the journey
Starting point is 00:39:35 and just get to whatever your destination is and, you know, finishing, whether it's first or 17th or 37th? Like, enjoy the ride. Enjoy playing the U.S. Open on a, on a beautiful weekend. That's awesome. I cannot imagine how much harder that is or how much easier said than done that must be. You know, and it feels like you got to be a pro for a long time to finally get to that point, which was just, yeah, that just struck me, man.
Starting point is 00:40:04 Just awesome to, awesome to see. Sounds like him trying to join the live show. You know, I've done this before. I've done this. I can choose to be a part of this. I can choose to be a part of this show. Yeah. Let me say this.
Starting point is 00:40:18 The internet and the service out in this part of Long Islander is never good. It's just, it's always a struggle out here. So, you know, technical difficulties. We're still at it. Does this work? How about it? My wife saved the day again. It's kind of working.
Starting point is 00:40:41 I can hear you guys just fine. Can you hear me? Yeah, but you're in slow-mo. Neil, I'd say get your question. We got to let Harry rest up for his 312 T-time tomorrow. My question was he talked about how do it. Hit the hole. All right. You're talking about the part. I'm curious, like, walking around Shinnocock, something that stuck out to me was there's, I changed my mind on which T-shot is the hardest. Is it four? Is it eight? Is it nine? Is it 13? Is it? Is it? at 15 and I'm curious for you
Starting point is 00:41:17 which T shot you struggle with the most outside the par 3s. I don't like blind shots. 10 is hard. Just because like, am I supposed to, I'm just supposed to hit it over that bunker that's right in front of me?
Starting point is 00:41:33 And then, if not, I think it's 13. 13 gets really narrow and it's very important that you hit that fairway. There you go. It's like one of those war interviews.
Starting point is 00:41:46 I would be more of those. All right. I'm worried that the phone's going to go. We got it. We got to let you go officially. Thank you, Harry. Go get suppressed. Sorry to completely ruin the live job.
Starting point is 00:41:59 We'll try it eight more times tomorrow night. But thank you. Good luck. Thank you for calling in. Awesome. Watch and play well, man. Thank you. He would not be denied.
Starting point is 00:42:07 I love that. And I hope that's the attitude tomorrow. He will not be denied. He kept entering the studio. I kept me like, all right, we're done. We just kept getting notifications that he kept entering the studio. Oh, man. That was electric.
Starting point is 00:42:19 I think that was a different phone, too. I think it was. He's calling it on multiple devices. He's got two phones. I could have to throw back to Oakmont. Neil, how was your day, man? What did you get into out there? Oh, man, guys, I had a great day.
Starting point is 00:42:34 I got out there early. I was anticipating bad logistics, okay? And I can report, we have K-shaped logistics out here in Long Island. I'm staying east of the course. It was a breeze. So I got out there kind of early, And I was like, I don't know what to do, got set up. And sometimes when I come to this event, I'm rolling solo.
Starting point is 00:42:56 I'm like, oh, I better go follow the big name. So my goal, I was going to walk out and catch Wyndham and DJ as they were coming up. I was like, I'll go out to six green and then I'll see him play seven. So I'm on my way out. And I'm walking by seven. And who do I see? But Zach Blair, the Rainer Man on the Redan, electric call in last night, listen to the live show. the on the drive out and i was like oh okay i got to watch him here he's behind the green puts it
Starting point is 00:43:24 like 80 feet up to the hole makes a five footer for par he's three over at the time i'm like all right cool i'm i'm i'm just gonna lock him with him take him up to nine and then i'll go figure something out so he birdies eight and uh hits it right on nine and then he has to like lay up to to left of of of um nine nine so scary it's got the heather cross it in front of the green and so the fairways connect nine and 18 and he calls for a rules official and he's like hey i i'm in a crosswalk but it's like a vertical crosswalk and the rules official's like that's not a crosswalk this is you're like in the gallery he's like absolutely not sir so he totally backs the rules official down gets the ruling moves it like a
Starting point is 00:44:08 yard over so i was inverted it was uh it was it was right here yeah in between nine and 18 and then he hits the filthiest wedge up there to about a foot taps it in for par So I kept saying like, oh, I'm going to leave him. So then I'm like, I'll leave him when he makes bogey. Guys, he proceeds not to make a bogey the rest of the day. He won putts five straight holes, just getting up and down from everywhere. It was like Memphis Grizzlies grind house. I've never seen anything like it.
Starting point is 00:44:36 And it was the perfect, you know, I had another plan. And so what I loved about is one of my favorite things to do at a golf tournament, especially on a Friday, is go follow a group that's on the cut line. And it was Zach Blair, Pearson Cootty, and Kevin Roy. And they were all grinding their faces off. Kevin Roy ejected, but Cootie and Zach, like, locked in. And nobody's out there. Like, nobody's falling this group.
Starting point is 00:45:01 You know, his little sparse fans hadn't really showed up yet. And it was just, like, me out there embedded with some guys, like, in the trenches. It was fantastic. And I was, and Zach's game is very relatable. So it was a great intro to the course to watch somebody that hits the ball, you know, 270, 280. We talk about loud traits. Candidly, Zach has quiet traits.
Starting point is 00:45:24 Except the butter. Exactly. But the way that he went about, like, he basically was three over through six and then he was three under. He shot even par. Makes the cut. The guy qualified through Springfield Country Club. And he just made the cut in the U.S. open. Like, it was, it was like all time.
Starting point is 00:45:42 It was one of the best rounds I've seen in person in years, truly. I mean that like, like no hyperbole. He was T-22 and he's 150th in strokes game off the T. It's crazy. And TC, he didn't hit it bad off the T. He just, there are two shots, though, that were like, I don't know, a guy, he's playing golf. He's not like, he's not a freak athlete. His T-shot on 15, he hit this bunt-cut driver that's like the,
Starting point is 00:46:15 it's everything the second serve should be. And he just, like, that fairway is so intimidating to me to hit. When you're up at this high point, you're hitting down this shoot and, you know, those bunkers come into play on the right, but you can run out a room on the left. And he just shapes one right in there, makes par there. And then he goes to 16. And it's like, I feel like when I was watching him, it was like he was free solo. It's like, all these other guys have ropes.
Starting point is 00:46:38 But Zach doesn't have any ropes, guy. Like, does anybody see what's happening here? Like, he doesn't have any margin for air. He's putting so much pressure on his putter. and he plays 16 flawlessly. He hits drive up the right. Then he hits like a driving iron left, like a yard off the rough,
Starting point is 00:46:55 but perfect angle hits it to like 12 feet and sinks the putt. It was just like, I'm like this is, this is jazz. This is beautiful what I'm watching. And then he hits a beautiful shot into 17, two putt, hits a perfect drive on 18, down the middle, hits it to like 15 feet,
Starting point is 00:47:11 almost buries a birdie on 18. And it was, you know, Cootie was kind of matched him shot for shot there, the last few holes. And then Cootie ejected on 18. I think he made double, which was frustrating because I was rooting for both of them. Because they both don't hit the ball super far. And it was just fun to watch guys like that dissect the course without some of the louder traits that were seen at the top of the leaderboard. So that was a really good warm up for me for the day.
Starting point is 00:47:37 Yeah. And for Zach, like he's making such stressful pars, like nine was stressful. 10. He putted it from probably 25 yards off the back of 10 green. Everybody was missing long on 10. Everyone's, my pin was back left. He puts it up. Everyone's chipping. He puts it to like six feet, makes that one. You know, it's just like 11. Just, you know, misses short, chips up, makes a six footer. So he's doing that, doing that. And then 14, he finally hits a good drive. Hits it in there to like 12 feet and makes the putt. He just pounces on an opportunity. It's just inspiring shit. Like it's the kind of, you know, I'm going to tell my kids about this round.
Starting point is 00:48:14 It's like, you don't understand. This guy that like should be on this podcast with us. No, he's playing, he's playing, he's playing shinnika. He made this like a 30 for cut, man. What if I. It's all doable. Uh, yeah, I got, I got a pizza in honor of him tonight, uh, in honor of his domino's order last night. So anyway, that was, that was a thrill for me. It probably wasn't going to make the, uh, the headlines. Um, that's great. That's why you, that's why you go, man. That's great. It's great. You can't get that from the shot tracker. That's great.
Starting point is 00:48:40 So I, you know, I wrap up that. I go back. I grab some lunch. And then, you know, I was talking to you guys. I was like, do I want to go, I wanted to get some eyes on Scotty just so I could diagnose if he's stuck or not. And I was like, yeah, that might be a little depressing. I don't know if I really want to do that. Obviously, you know, the center of gravity was that Tommy, Rory Ludwig group. So I decided to follow them out. I picked them up on one green. And that guys was the front and on a tail of two nines, but the front nine was really technical stuff. It reminded me the analogy I would use was a lot of Floyd Mayweather fight. Not super fun to watch. A lot of defense, a lot of like, no, you don't know how many jabs he landed. No, no big punches, but like grown up technical defensive play, really strong stuff from all three of those guys. Ludwig, I mean, God, I dropped him on 13, I think 12, 13 straight pars and before he kind of wrecked his rig. And Rory was just making grown-up parts. The up and down on one was ridiculous. I mean, he Icarito's it, and then he makes like a 12-footer to kick the day off. And then all three of them, you know, two is might as well
Starting point is 00:49:48 be a par four. Rory hits a beautiful shot into two. And the thing that stands out to me with Rory today was he drove the shit out of the ball. He hit it so good off the T. He wasn't, I wouldn't say he was sloppy with his irons. He was patient. He was a little unrefined. Like he had a bad short miss on four just like slightly sloppy in spots but he he he made up for it throughout the front nine he hit a gorgeous drive on five i think he had pitching wedge in from like 180 makes birdie there um and just had an awesome front nine so he's kind of he's got the rory bounce he makes that birdie on eight which was huge he's got the rory bounce coming up nine you got the clubhouse is full the deck is full of members with their south sides you know it's it's a whole scene
Starting point is 00:50:35 on nine. Rory's got a six-footer. And he misses it. And it was just like the air. It's like, just the air is coming out of the balloon. We go to 10. He comes down the stairs. There's like a crosswalk over the road, over Tuckahoe Road. Comes on the scare. Some old guy, just point blank hips and with, you suck, Rory, go USA. Immediately gets ejected. I mean, we're not doing the jingoistic stuff in Shinnock. The South Hampton cops were all over here. So it hits a great, great driving iron or whatever. down the hill and then he quators a wedge over the green and it was like oh my god what's going on and then 11 over the green makes a sloppy uh solly said it was more over the
Starting point is 00:51:14 tropic of capricorn yeah it was not quite equated it was a little south dude it looked awful i mean it came out so hot and well and he like fred mcgrifted and uh remind me that shot blocky hit on the second hole of the the the swamp after the pga a couple years what just caught me so off guard because he was very like he was so locked in on the front nine. And then the minute he missed that putt on nine, it just kind of unraveled, like super quick. The momentum just flipped on them. You know, the wind, the wind died down, like throughout their front nine. There wasn't much wind until pretty much until they walked up nine. And then it picked up again coming out of the south. And, but he just started making bad
Starting point is 00:51:56 swings. And then he almost jars it on 13. And so that's where I was like, all right, I'm ending on a high note. I got to, I, I, I, I, uh, I left there. And it, you know, it sounds like he just kind of blew it down the stretch. So you guys might have to fill me in. But, uh, God, if you would, like on the front nine, I was like, man, Rory's going to win this thing. Like, he just looks so patient, so grown up is, is, is the word I would use. And, uh, and I'd say all three of those guys look really strong, really patient, really locked in on the front. So, so both the morning and the afternoon golf that I saw was, was, uh, was really fun. It was, they were, they were fun rounds to stick with go ahead tc guys breaking news this just went out to the players one minute
Starting point is 00:52:37 ago at 919 p.m eastern time 2026 u.s. open for saturday and sunday the golf course will be prepared to play progressively firmer and the target green speed will be 11.0 on the u.sGA stamp meter then they sent out t times and wifi and whole locations and all that stuff so just it will t-s-e on that note being on site like at no point today was i i like oh man the course is playing to like it's super easy out here like it is it hard enough yeah i i'll hear you on that argument could it be harder sure but like it's definitely not easy guys are stressed out i know so like i'm not i'm not gonna complain about the set up i i if they want to crescendo this thing sign me up for that uh we we got rid of half the field they have they have they have the the the the the
Starting point is 00:53:30 world at their fingertips, I feel like, with this golf course right now. They can, they can start turning dials, baby. But it wasn't playing. Nobody got crowned today. The wind died down a little bit in the middle of the day, but then it picked up big time in the afternoon and it was tough this morning. I'll say, I'll say contrary to that, Neil, like they have to do it. They have to do what they just said they're going to do in the notice. They said that they were going to do it before. They just said it now on Friday night. They had the wind, you know, reasoning. My official, like, stance on this so far has been like I get why we got to where we got but I still don't think they got it right through two days like guys I just thought we saw we still saw too many balls
Starting point is 00:54:08 back spinning I get why speeds were what they were I don't know enough about agronomy and I don't know what they should have done differently and that's where I feel like an idiot commenting on it but it did not feel like balls should be spinning in that way now I would say towards the end of today I felt like balls were behaving kind of closer to what I would hope and expect them to do It was like offline shot was not going to hold if it was going in the wrong direction with the slope taken in a certain way. Not seeing so many balls rip super hard when they landed on greens. It got closer, but there was a lot of golf played over the last two days with balls were ripping and spinning, you know, very heavily to the point where I was like, I don't know if they can get it that firm in just a 24 hour period.
Starting point is 00:54:50 And I still kind of have a little bit of my doubts for tomorrow that we're going to get exactly what we're looking for. But that's what they said they were going to do. solid big big big big spot for bad and hammer in the crew tomorrow i'm largely aligned my man i mean i i don't think that like i don't think they you know i think losing the golf course and then kind of what they did in 2018 losing the golf course early and then and then you know trying to get it back later in the week is would be a worse thing um i've just felt a little bit like bodenhammer it's been like he's really good at explaining it all He's much better communicator than Mike Davis ever was or still is.
Starting point is 00:55:33 But I also think that he's gotten so much residual goodwill just from not being Mike Davis. And at some point, I feel like we need to see John Bodenhammer push it a little bit. Because I think at every turn over the last few years, it's just been like, man, it's been a little bit easier than they haven't walked up to that line. And so, and I think an underrated element of the late afternoon today, especially, because I don't think that they've, they've really cut the greens. I know they haven't rolled them in days is how bumpy they were towards the end with the Poa. And I think that was a distinct disadvantage as far as just making putts. Like, I mean, you saw it, you know, granted the shadows and the long, you know, the long light, you see it more. You see every imperfection.
Starting point is 00:56:21 But I do think there's a gradual buildup of the. that if you're not preparing them, you know, as you normally would. So I'm, I'm hoping that they go back to just, hey, we're doing standard agronomy practices heading into Saturday and then especially into Sunday. I'm with you. I think that's all very fair, very well said. As a, as a Bowdenhammer simp, a hammerhead, if you will, I, I think they also are a little bit the victim of their own transparency here.
Starting point is 00:56:52 You know, I think they, they, I think back to some of the stuff at Aronimic and Carrie Haig and just kind of like, why are you asking me all these questions? I'm not going to tell you what I'm, I'm not going to tell you what we're doing. Yeah, we're rolling it. Yeah, why are you asking me this kind of vibe? Whereas I feel like they sat up there and they're like, let me talk you through the plan for each and every blade of grass out here. Here's exactly what we're going to do. And then it, to your point, like when it doesn't all go exactly to plan, like you're kind of see their words against them a little bit, which again is, fair but i'm still like i'd rather miss on that side and i'd rather kind of know what the plan
Starting point is 00:57:26 is and and have the clear communication uh and again i think we're sitting here tomorrow night and we're seeing balls rip back and we're not seeing the the u.s open that we've all been hoping for for seven years uh then you know we got we'll have some issues but i would much i'm optimistic i'd much rather be sitting here tonight having this conversation then you know they they go ham on third like the masters did and then they immediately dial it back Friday, Saturday, you don't know where it's going to go next. I think getting through the cut and it's like, all right, now we've got some wiggle room and some margin for error to play with. Well, it also had, sorry, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:58:11 The point, just like, I think I've been a Bonhamber defender over the last several years because it seemed, as seemed like for a lot of U.S. opens, he just had a lot of factors work against him. Like no wind and marine layer in L.A. was a disaster for that. And could they have pushed it probably. Sure, they could have probably done better. But just didn't have the- Your U.S. Open, Sally. Work in their favor.
Starting point is 00:58:32 This, he's had, I mean, it almost worked too good in his favor of having too much wind, potentially on Thursday. That's not in the forecast for tomorrow. Like the massive red colored gusts are not even predicted by anything that I read tomorrow. A little bit, but again, I just don't think it's that. I don't. It should be perfect, man. It should be like you can let it.
Starting point is 00:58:53 It should be like a normal day. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. It is. And if you need a little bit more conservative pins with firm, firmer and fast greens,
Starting point is 00:59:04 I'm okay with that versus it being soft and balls ripping into harder pins. I'd rather you be safe with the pins. I don't think they're going to be easy. No matter if it's firm, I don't think anything will be easy. All the shots will require landing the ball in a different spot than next to the hole. to get it there. And that makes for really interesting golf. And it will be a test of how well you can stop the ball.
Starting point is 00:59:25 And there'll be a ton of guys chipping back onto greens after balls have rolled off. And that's what creates the most interesting golf on this golf course, which we haven't seen to this point. I think we know why and understand why. Don't have to love it. But from here on out, this is like, I do not think you're going to be afforded much of a benefit of the doubt from here. But what I love is that they do have dials to turn. Like the pin.
Starting point is 00:59:48 I hope so. You know, the pins were pretty, pretty easy today. I'm trying to think, I thought 10 was hard. I thought 15 was tough. Over there on the left was a tough pin. But for the most part, you know, like, I guess four, seven. I mean, seven, every pin's hard on seven. God, that whole rules.
Starting point is 01:00:08 So they could mess with that. And then just the wind did shift today, T.C. It was coming trying to give you it like, like, straight. It was straight west this morning And then it came much more out of the south He kind of died And then this afternoon it was much more from the south So it was like a it was a noticeable shift in the wind
Starting point is 01:00:30 So like 13 T in the morning it was straight off the left And then when you know Rory's group was T and off this afternoon It was straight in and it was it was whipping by that point And that that God that I was kind of vindicated here in Harry talk about 13 13 13 so stressful It's like the most exposed point on the property I think that hole is underrated. And then...
Starting point is 01:00:52 Mickelson lost his mind. Well, no, but more so like the T-shot. Like, I know the green's hard, but that T-shot just is spooky, man. That one in 15 are just like, man, you got to hit, like, you got to commit to your ball flight on those holes. Solly, what are your models saying? I only trust your models. I will never give you guys another forecast again afterwards.
Starting point is 01:01:13 Solly, I think the USGA was looking at the same model. Some sources on site. They were spooked by the wind. You know, they were looking at you. This is, this is the most convenient place you could. This like science denial shit of like, not to believe a forecast.
Starting point is 01:01:30 Like, just because that didn't happen doesn't mean that wasn't the right decision and the right forecast. Like it was saying, everything I'm seeing is West winds 15 to 20 miles an hour with gusts up to 30. And then the winds are moving later on than anticipated to the northwest.
Starting point is 01:01:46 scure you if the if the guts don't get up to 30 miles an hour tomorrow absolutely. No, with Gus up to 30 it's not sustained or anything like that. All I was reporting was Gus for Thursday. You know what's sick about Shinnock, by the way? This is the obvious I know, but with all the triangles,
Starting point is 01:02:02 like put the wind in any direction. Doesn't matter. It's just going to make six of them harder, six of them easier. Like there's no like super good wind, super bad wind. It's not binary. It's just like, it just seems like it just changes. Oh, it's coming out of the north? Cool.
Starting point is 01:02:15 Different golf course. Coming out of the east, different golf course. South, great. Well, you know, are they triangles or are they pyramids? The, uh, the, the, uh, the prox-leys triangles, most of them I feel like. The problem with that, though, Dej is the one that matters is if it blows with the Redan on seven, because that's where you get to the breaking point of like, can you continue play? If it's blowing downwind on the Redan slope, like balls might not stay, uh, very much.
Starting point is 01:02:38 So that's what they were spooked on on Thursday. At some point, like before they host another U.S. Open here, can we just soften that I totally agree. I think so much could got, if they were to soften seven green. I don't know, man. I could sit there all day in Washington. That was the highlighted. The way Rory shot in there, it was so good. I'd rather see the rest of the golf course play as it should. I got it. TGL actuators under there. Actuators, man. We just tilt it a little bit if the winds out of the southwest. That's all we got to do.
Starting point is 01:03:10 So, all right. So, so, uh, Rory and Tommy and Ludwig. all great strike. So Rory and Tommy started at the flag and it drifts a little left. They both at, Tommy ends up in the bunker. Rory ends up, I don't know, 80 feet away, 50 feet away. And, and Ludwig tries to hold one into the wind. He lands right on top and it rolls back. So it's, it's, it's, I might sit there for an hour tomorrow and just watch that exact shot. It's really fun to watch these guys try to solve that puzzle. Don't soften it, man. It's, it's sick. Dude, watching golf in person, there's no substitute for it. And if you're in the northeast part of the country, the Travelers Championship, now is the time.
Starting point is 01:03:54 This is the place. Every star, every round, every shot that makes your heart race as legends walk the fairways. Keegan Bradley, Scotty Sheffler, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Cameron Young, Zander Shoffley, Colin Moracawa, and other PGA tour grades, all battling to become champion. See the world's best for all four days. no cut, feel the pressure before every shot, the roar when it drops, you'll stand close enough to see it all, the intensity, the focus, the moment when everything comes down to mere inches and where everything makes you feel part of the moment. It's golf at its best, up close,
Starting point is 01:04:26 open to all, and only here. The excitement starts January 24th and runs through, I'm sorry, starts June 24th and runs through June 28th at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. For tickets and information, visit Travelerschampionship.com. Now is the time. is the place, Travelerschampionship.com. I'm starting to think that Tommy might not want to win the U.S. Open because he wants to go avenge what happened last year.
Starting point is 01:04:52 I would say the excitement does start on January 24th. I always, I'm excited from the first, first ball of the air. The travelers every year. Yeah. No, I couldn't have said it better myself. I think that with the conditions today, with the softness, you can, you can paint
Starting point is 01:05:08 this as a good thing, you can paint this as a bad thing. I had the beholder stuff. reshuffle the deck chairs in an interesting way. We had some movers because there was enough teeth for people to get blown out to see and there was enough openings for some people to like really move up the board. I highlighted five of my favorites here. Five movers up. Zander must credit me and Randy four under 66 today. Just looked like the Xander of old good press conference. A lot of good press conferences today. But he would encourage people to go check that one out talking about U.S. Open Focus.
Starting point is 01:05:43 He was talking about, you know, just like how locked in you have to be listed off like 50 examples of just here's all the things that could go wrong. Here's the things that can pop in your head right before you pull the trigger. Like you have to back off if that's what you're feeling at this tournament. You've got to be fully committed 100% to every single shot or you're going to you're going to get blown away. Yeah. And it was really good.
Starting point is 01:06:04 But he was talking about that. He was talking about coming back from injury, which I hadn't heard him say this before, but he said it took like, they asked like how long did it take before you felt like you were fully 100% he said basically a year yeah he's like I came back after like six or eight weeks uh but it it was like a year before I was actually like I can I can really go after it uh which I think brings us to the next mover of the day 65 today for columb morikawa kind of wrote I kind of wrote him off uh yesterday he talked about how bad his chipping was yesterday he flubbed it like just his words just straight up flubbed a bunch of chips
Starting point is 01:06:39 changed his wedges this week found some wedges with like very little bounce and then just completely flubbed him finished up a couple holes this morning of round one and then changed his wedges back got some good confidence going for the afternoon but some interesting stuff he switched in between rounds
Starting point is 01:06:55 he switched in between rounds yeah which I thought was interesting I said yeah that's right he had good quotes about his his kind of lingering back injury too he said, quote, I can't hit every shot that I want to hit. Usually my go-to-with-left wind
Starting point is 01:07:14 with an iron would be to cut something up, you know, how it's going to spin and just play that shot. I can't quite cut it as much as I want. Just fascinating. Just straight up say that, you know, I'm about to go contend for a U.S. Open at a place where iron play is at an absolute premium
Starting point is 01:07:31 and is only going to get more important over the weekend. And, like, I can't hit all the shots. TC, cover your ears. He did say, thankfully, the greens are soft enough right now where I don't have to hit the high spinner, but I'm able to hit enough shots. I think I proved it to myself today that I have enough tools to go out and play well. Great quote. Good, good little bit of transparency there from Colin. I enjoyed hearing that.
Starting point is 01:07:55 Makes me feel more confident about crossing him off going into the weekend, though. It does. It does. Read between the lines. That's what I'm talking about. That's interesting. Yeah. You wear the injured golfer.
Starting point is 01:08:06 perhaps uh walking neman moving up with the 65 today after shooting 78 with a an 11 quote unquote yesterday uh of course kind of story of the day most people have heard about this the sixth hole yesterday he made a nine just a real nine
Starting point is 01:08:23 but then was assessed a two shot penalty after round one under salli's favorite rule 1.2b okay so that happened yesterday yeah yeah it happened happened yesterday, but he was assessed the penalty this morning after he finished round okay and Neil I know your guy this is all news to me yeah Stagner was he was livid today
Starting point is 01:08:44 on X the everything app he's saying why you know why why was Rory able to to throw a club a lot of what about he smashed the the the tea last year why didn't you get a penalty yeah and you know what Lou it's a new policy all right my just just put it in place this year yeah Pro golf critic was mad as hell. Exactly. There are a couple people. Our guy Johnny Rombo, I don't think got this penalty of the PGA when he unfortunately hit that volunteer in the face with that divot.
Starting point is 01:09:15 And then they extract it. Shout to Gabby Herzig. She did some journalism on this. She talked to the volunteer, Tristan Chang. He witnessed it. He said after hitting two balls, O.B. Neiman tried to get free relief from fire ants to no avail. from where his third drive ended up in the Fescue.
Starting point is 01:09:36 He got visibly angry, kicked the white flag that another volunteer used to mark his ball, continued to kick around the sand, proceeded to chuck his iron from the fescue area, approximately 50 yards to the very edge of the course on the right. Almost did not walk back for the club until a police officer delivered it to him. Chang said, quote, pretty impressive throw.
Starting point is 01:09:56 So good work for Gabby on that one. The fire ants thing, there might be like an old baseball player. you know, you pick up some stuff from the wily vets. That might be something that was going around. Price and away game against the crushers, you know, maybe pick that one up against Bryson out there on the road. Seems like something he's picking up the base going over to the, going over to the,
Starting point is 01:10:16 exactly. He was in his, at least in his press conference, at least publicly, he seemed quite gracious about it. I think he had appealed it pretty strongly. Behind the scenes, ultimately in the press conference,
Starting point is 01:10:29 he did say, I wouldn't be happy scenes. players throwing clubs and behaving that way. So yeah, I mean, I agree. You know, I don't think he was aware of the policy. And once they kind of spelled out that this was in place, I think he was pretty much like, yeah, that does pretty much fall into this. I want to give, was it Tristan Chang?
Starting point is 01:10:51 I want to give him a shout out for going on the record. That's right. Was it just of all. Put your name on it. No, put my name on this shit. Shout out to Tristan. We don't get a lot of that in society anymore. It's kind of like Roger Waters.
Starting point is 01:11:04 Exactly. How about that, T.C. Pink Floyd, Roger Waters. No. Going on the record. Shinnecock and national member Roger Waters. He was just apoplectic that the, like, I don't know, the Times did a good, good article on the fraught state of affairs between the
Starting point is 01:11:22 Shinnecock tribe and Shinnecock Golf Club and the USGA and how there's a certain portion of the tribe that doesn't want to accept the payout from the USGA because that acknowledges that it's, you know, like it's a reasonable or lawful transaction and they say that it's stolen land. And so Roger Watt, like, you know, it's just, you know, Beth Major had a quote in there and a few others. And then like, Roger Waters, it's like, yeah, Shinnecock member, Roger Waters. I was like, whoa, what? And then he just goes on to like lamb. He's like, the Shinnecock tribe's absolutely right.
Starting point is 01:12:03 Like, just lambas, the club. It's crazy. Go read it tonight. Yeah. It's good stuff. We'll explore. I'll say this on Neiman and I said this on the Everything app and got some predictable pushback from predictable folks. But like, again, just I feel like we're about to enter this era where like people are starting to forget all the things that were done and said over the last several years.
Starting point is 01:12:27 Like Neiman, like in post-winning press, like on the green interviews after winning on live was like winging about not getting exemptions into majors. And like the USGA carved out a special exemption for the top live player not already qualified for these majors. And Neiman got that to get into this tournament and responds by visibly kicking the white flag, kicking around the sand and throwing a club 50 yards into the tree line is just that was not sitting gray with me. after all we went through of how this guy was like a top five player in the world, allegedly, but not getting into majors. And he does stuff like this and no-shows every major he plays in. That was not sitting great with me, and I will not forget it. Should have taken it out in the locker room instead.
Starting point is 01:13:14 The incident. A couple more movers and shakers. We'll shout out the 65 to make the cut. That was extremely impressive to make it 11. It was baller. Aaron Rye, your most recent major champion, 67. after it looked like maybe he was going to be packing up 74 yesterday. You love to see that validating it.
Starting point is 01:13:33 TC, I thought you had a good take on JJ Spawn. You know, if you're the defending champion and you don't make the cut, you should have to, would you say, trim a year off your exemption? Yeah, I think by every shot you missed a cup. I like that. That's interesting. Pay some sort of penance. I agree.
Starting point is 01:13:51 Careful. Do you want to win? That's why Tommy doesn't win these things. J.T. 68 to move into the top 10. Good fight from him. He's been kind of a up and down week. Fascinated to see what he does on the weekend.
Starting point is 01:14:06 Skipping Tom Kim, huh? I did skip Tom Kim. You're right. 67 for him to move into second place. I thought it was a little bit of... You got to trust the process on that one, I think. For Kisner. Kisner obviously has a conflict of interest.
Starting point is 01:14:21 They're teammates. Why are you stealing my slack jokes? We're a team, man. All boats are. That was that was right along the lines that they were, you know, right when they were missing the entire. Joking about this. Their own theme of the cut and all that stuff. And yeah, and it's just jokes and, you know, backslaps from Kutner.
Starting point is 01:14:42 It was like a Shane Gillis kid. It was really funny. Which I think, like I think where we're at with, with like NBC and just the broadcast in general, it's gotten better overall. Like the floor has risen. I agree with that. So I think it's made like the thing. we really really hate like kisner that much more noticeable and like you can just pinpoint those things a lot a lot easier instead of just a blanket of like this whole thing sucks
Starting point is 01:15:10 it was very funny i mean just to like listen to jim furik like u.s open champion yeah do like the early morning stuff on thursday to warm the seat up for for kids to do like the weekend color commentating stuff it's just like yeah okay okay which yeah that's yeah yeah and I know they're in a weird spot because Kiz is kind of playing and kind of not. And they probably committed, overly committed to him and he's podcasts. But like, it would be different if Kiz was like Brandl, you know, and he's just like unbelievably polished crazy hard worker. You know, then I'm like, oh, then the resume stuff like doesn't, that doesn't matter at all. But I'm like, Furex already as good as just like put him in the chair.
Starting point is 01:15:52 Like he's already as good as what Kisner's bringing, I think. I would say he's far better. Right, but that's what I mean. It's like, and that's on like day three. You know, it's just, I don't know. People moving down. Saul, you want to take a victory lap on Tom Kim? I don't think we're going to be talking much about him tomorrow.
Starting point is 01:16:10 So if you want to get it in now. Oh, shit. All right. Wow. No, I would never do that. I mean, he's, you know, TC wants his victory lap. To play well. You said a lot of things.
Starting point is 01:16:18 You don't get to, you don't get to cherry pick. You said a lot of things. What round did you draft him in, T.C.? Yeah, exactly. Do you know how, like, how much that took for me to say something positive about Tom Kim if you know how powerful that that is you're right you're right what we talk about what do you want to say what do you want to say good playing he played he played great 67 today 32 on the back nine on the impossible unfair side
Starting point is 01:16:43 of the draw too exactly that wouldn't have been in the simulation 70 67 uh him and you know and he's tied with sammy stevens 68 69 uh uh Tom Kim, he's, you know, he's a global superstar. The game needs him. It's, uh, all of a sudden, Tom Kim versus Ludwig. If Tom Kim bags a major this weekend, he's, Ludwig and Tommy are paired together tomorrow.
Starting point is 01:17:08 We can get there. Just feel like it's been a while since, since Tom Kim's really been under the pump. I don't know how, uh, I don't know how it's going to go this weekend, Sally, but we'll, we'll see. I'm, I'm right there with you. I'm kind of off the, uh,
Starting point is 01:17:22 off, off, off superstar. Yeah. He let down it was actually pretty great for Juplica. I got to give him that. A couple folks moving down on your score sheet. Dustin Johnson, 7767, or 6677 rather,
Starting point is 01:17:39 looks a little lost out of the gates today and just kind of turned back into a pumpkin a little bit. I was like, I have seen this before from DJ in a U.S. Open. Like I have seen this just complete four-hole meltdown, almost hitting shots backwards, it felt like the Saturday of the of the, or it was it Sunday, I guess,
Starting point is 01:17:59 of the 2010 Pebble Beach U.S. Open of just turning bogey into quad very, very quickly on 15 today. Oh, that was a disaster. We had Matt McCarty, 7280. I hate it. Bryson, guys. I'll own this one. I said that was the most important
Starting point is 01:18:20 round of the day yesterday. I thought him shooting 70 was big. He was going to get off the Schneide. He was going to make a cut. He was going to make a run at a Shinnock that was kind of there for the taking. Miss the cut. He has gone miscut, miss cut, miss cut, this year at the major championships. I don't know that Burkdale's the best fit either for our guy.
Starting point is 01:18:41 I don't know. Anybody want to take this? This is bleak, bleak stuff for the big golfer. A lot of doubles, right? Yeah. I don't know how to take it. not do like a 45 minute conversation on like,
Starting point is 01:18:58 like this is the guy that he's like holding Livtor ransom for like $500 million. He's got a lot of his mind, Sallie. You know, maybe he's distracted. He's doing pitch meetings. It is kind of interesting.
Starting point is 01:19:11 When you look at it as like a contract year sort of vibe. Like if it was another sport, it would be like, I don't know. If I'm sitting in all these meetings and he's helping all the sales pitches and he's trying to bring in all this outside investment. It's like, God, him win in one of these things would,
Starting point is 01:19:27 that would go a long way for the pocketbook, I got to think. But, yeah, just a fascinating. 141st in approach play. That's not going to get it done. It's getting off the tea. It seems like the Hebrew hammer. I mean, maybe U.S. Israeli relations aren't doing well. The hammers are being sanctioned right now.
Starting point is 01:19:51 Yeah, who knows? Who could say? I believe I could have missed this and could be corrected here I believe Tyrell Haddon is low live player at T-34 which is kind of wild
Starting point is 01:20:06 That would be the worst I would have to think easily the worst Live major ever Not that that matters anymore or really ever did But it's just kind of shocking DJ there DJ and Neiman there at T-46 and I don't know
Starting point is 01:20:24 Caleb Surat made the cut on the number and I think that's the only ones that made the cut. Lori Canter wants a live player. That's true. Same with K. Oh, Kepkin missed the cut by a mile too.
Starting point is 01:20:36 P. Yeah. Do we want to talk about Johnny Rambo? Catch me up on this. I didn't see this. 6878. I'll be honest, man.
Starting point is 01:20:49 I mean, drop from coverage and I kind of didn't realize how bad it was going until I looked at the score the score book and yeah, just completely blown out to see today. Yeah, I kind of missed this. He was even
Starting point is 01:21:01 par for the championship leaving the 11th green and then we proceed to miss the cut by by two shots by bogeing 12, bogey 13, bogeed 14, bogeed 15 doubled 16. TC, can we shout out 16?
Starting point is 01:21:17 Yeah. And just how good that's been is a real par five. I think we needed added to the list. I think we talked about it a little bit last night, but it's up there. It's one of the handful of actual par fives in the world. Watching, you had, I guess you would have ducked by then, Neil, you're probably on your way back,
Starting point is 01:21:36 but Tommy had driver off the deck, just a seed to lay up, which was awesome, like straight into the wind. Rory kind of overcooked a three wood into the heather, just a really hard layup shot. Ludwig completely looked like he glitched out, hit like a snap hook, uh, layup shot.
Starting point is 01:21:56 It's just, Wyndham Clark blew up there. It's just like a, it's just awesome to see guys actually have a consequential second shot on a part five. And this morning, when the wind was straight off the right, it's like they're, they're,
Starting point is 01:22:07 it's a pretty, with the bunkers are well placed making it feel like it's staking. But it's, it's pretty straight. It's, the T looks straight up at the clubhouse. And the other thing I want to shout it, it's such a cool view for,
Starting point is 01:22:21 from that T-box and that grandstand behind five and 16 T. It's just very American. It's just like this wind-swept, beautiful property, and then that clubhouse sitting way, way, way off in the distance up on the hill. And it's like you're trying to get from here to there on this long-ass par five. It's an awesome setting. That whole rules. I will say shout out Brom playing 16.
Starting point is 01:22:44 Shot one to right bunker, shot two to right bunker, shot three to left bunker, shot three to left bunker, shot four to right bunker. It was a triple Saddam. It was a double Saddam Adolf. Or I guess a triple Saddam Adolf. The likes of which we've never seen. I mean, it's almost like he was shaving
Starting point is 01:23:06 strokes or something. He's Tony from Blue Chips. Shaving points. God, he was two under with 14 holes left to make 13 holes left. until the cut and he wasn't even close to it. I bet,
Starting point is 01:23:23 I bet Rom is in such a fragile, fragile place right now where like he, I mean, McGinley was openly saying, I imagine this is well sourced from McGinley, like openly saying that, oh, he kicked his driver. I'm just seeing that replay.
Starting point is 01:23:37 He kicked his driver like three times, walking off 16T. But last night, I mean, it was an electric live from last night. He's, McGinley's saying like, I know John Rom.
Starting point is 01:23:47 desperately once back on the PGA tour. And also I've heard that Rom, like Bryson is having all these meetings with investors with Liv. He's not inviting Rom. Rom's like, what the fuck? Like, am I not an important part of this? Like, you don't want me, so he's just,
Starting point is 01:24:03 he feels unloved. It's sick. This is all to say nothing of the hair that's going on too. The mowloch. Speaking of the triangles out of shit, it got kind of a Rick Vaughd sort of aesthetic.
Starting point is 01:24:17 going on. Maybe that's what Randy should do with his aesthetic. I hope the extraction process can take hold soon. Begin to take hold. Yeah. T.C., you want to go down the leaderboard a little bit on a double back on anything we missed? We must turn over every stone here. We haven't really talked to Fitz
Starting point is 01:24:33 yet, and I think Fitz is, I mean, Sallie, you were very high on him. It's going to win the week. I guess at his last night. I basically picked him and then just choked and didn't pick him. I'm so upset. I think he's he's going to win his championship at least i have real i've bet real american dollars on him and uh
Starting point is 01:24:53 we'll have that to show for it but i i'm kicking myself though scotty still has a chance but i still think fits is is my guy he didn't drive it great today uh he's chipping he's like chipping the best in the field which just is we shout it out it's like an optical illusion with my eyes it's it's like it's oh's shit it's like you can't that can't be possible with the cross hand it just doesn't cents. I mean, odds-wise, you got Windham at plus 170.
Starting point is 01:25:25 Next closest is Zander at plus 700. Fits at plus 750. And then after that, it's Scotty at plus 1,200. So, like, if you had to pick between Zander and fits, who are you going with? Man.
Starting point is 01:25:42 Just tomorrow or for the, I mean, rest of the way. It's a good coin flip. I mean, you got to, like, I'm going to fit. You got to take Vince on recent form, right? And just who's got it done and who's got it over the line most recently? But then you got to take Zander on, it's the U.S. Open. And then Fitts is one of U.S. Open.
Starting point is 01:26:01 It's a really good, it's good head to head. I'll stick with Zander, but it's close. It's interesting. Zander's minus 310 for a top 10. Yeah. There you go. It is interesting if either Fitz or, Windham goes on to win this, how many, how many, we've had three two time winners in the last
Starting point is 01:26:23 10 year span between Kepka, Bryson, and now one of Windham or Fitz if one of them gets it done. Like that makes up six of the last 10 winners basically. Yeah. It's interesting. It's, I feel like Fitz is, there's certain guys that there's a sliding scale of like what you, you know, I don't want to bring up the dude conversation, but there's a slid. a sliding scale of what pre-recks you need to hit in order to get your status, you know, and I feel like Fitz is, for whatever reason.
Starting point is 01:26:57 I hate it, but he's just, he's one short. Like if he wins this week, then I think it's like, oh, okay, he's, he's, he's, he's it. He's in the top tier of guys, even though he clearly has been playing that good. I don't know why I still can't get there. I think it's the chipping. I think it's the chipping of the sketchers. And, Sally, when we do talk about the extraction process, we're talking about ROM being extracted from the list of dudes.
Starting point is 01:27:21 I would think finishing second in the most recent PGA, a most recent major before this one would have bought more time, but I should have known. I should have known better. That's on me. Sam Burns, minus one.
Starting point is 01:27:32 We haven't talked about him. We've been talking about him. I feel like I've letting my guy do the talking for me. His iron plays good. He did. Boe at 18. It was a tough one. I'm ringing in my head,
Starting point is 01:27:46 You know, he doesn't seem like a good putter when he needs to make putt. So I was about to throw that one back at TC and that he fucking misses that one on 18. I was like, ah, all right. Let's just let it. Let's just let the process play out. Let's just let it keep going. Sahith, T7. It's great.
Starting point is 01:28:03 I love it. Nobody's happy. Under today. Shee. I mean, for a wide golf course, that's kind of, you know, the guy you'd hope. Good fit. Well, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:13 Chairman Mao. 70, 70. I'll be honest, I don't know a ton about the chairman's game. I need to educate myself. Rider Cowan, Country Music Sensation, Rider Cowan, and just generally speaking, the amateurs at large, but he's T-11, the weekend, heading into the weekend at T-11, Rio hits Hatsune.
Starting point is 01:28:35 A big spot. Our guy's kind of wilted on the weekends, man. We need him to stick around, get him on the team. I mean, his caddy's syringing his mouth. four puts and such. Akshay, 70-70, Keith Mitchell, 70-70, a little bit more normal round today,
Starting point is 01:28:56 although Keith shot 33 on the back nine today, his second nine, 37 on the front nine. So, you know, he's got a 60, he's got a 62 going, I think, you know, kind of best ball with himself. Mav in the mix, T-11. Harmon's doing. stuff.
Starting point is 01:29:19 Scotty. Are you guys buying Scotty for the weekend? For sure. Always. Always. Dollar cost averaging on Scotty. Anything you're going to sell to me. I think he'll finish like T4 in all likelihood.
Starting point is 01:29:32 I think it would take. Don't watch him and I don't see a guy like bursting at the seams ready to hunt everybody down at the moment. But I also just think he'll slowly. I mean a pattern. You just kind of lays an egg on day one and then just clauses way back to being kind of a distant threat the rest of the week is how it's setting up. It's same.
Starting point is 01:29:52 It's done it all year. The iron plays is still just okay, man. It's just, it was better today, certainly than it was yesterday, but it's just, it's not the special, special kind that,
Starting point is 01:30:04 you know, leads them to. Which is interesting, because it seems when I see, maybe this is just because I'm seeing, like, random highlights, but he seems most frustrated off the T to me,
Starting point is 01:30:15 with, like right misses where that's where he seems to to boil over so I didn't see I didn't see much from today though he's missed four fairways in two days he's 15th and strokes gained off the T so far but he has it a couple like spinny right balls that had stayed in the fair like up into it into right to left wind that just like don't go anywhere and he ends up kind of kind of frustrated with those like it is I see what you're what you're what you see as well but and he's paid the price on the four fairways TV and the media center on silent. And it's just, you know, him motion.
Starting point is 01:30:46 Like, you can tell he's just pissed. He had a lot better today. He played a lot nicer today. So, I mean, a couple, who knows, man, if it gets super, if you fire a little smooth 68 tomorrow, if it actually does get the spiciness we're hoping for. I mean, we're going to,
Starting point is 01:31:03 we're going to know early tomorrow. That's the thing. We're going to know if the wind is going to be as strong as it is going to be in the morning. Like, it's going to, it's probably going to play. It's the golf course will likely be as hard as it's going to, be in the earliest phase tomorrow. I think that the first five holes as well.
Starting point is 01:31:19 Like there's a lot of, a lot can happen in those first five. We have pinned. We have hole locations if we, if we want to take a look at those. Real quick, before we get there, I think last thing,
Starting point is 01:31:30 I wanted to shout out Alex Fitzpatrick because he's T-11. And he keeps such a stud. Absolutely. Like he's not putting great. And he's just ball striking his way around. And like, he's just a junkyard dog, man.
Starting point is 01:31:43 What an arrival this year for him, man. Like, you know, I know he's kind of, you know, got in with the Zurich, but making the most of it, this newfound status. Take it any way you can get it. Good stuff. I mean, what if he played well more? Again, he got in by winning the Zurich, though. No, of course.
Starting point is 01:32:01 But, you know, they think there's a, it's a partner event, you know. I know, but it, yeah, he's, he has made a very, very serious and unpredictable. He's validated. I guess what I'm saying. I'm always saying, like, like, let's throw that whole name. narrative out because he seems to be here to stay. He also won the Indian Open earlier this year at like one of the most outrageous golf courses in the world.
Starting point is 01:32:23 Stating the obvious here. And then like both like both him and this. 100% fucking cool with that. He's so cool. It would be like the coolest thing ever. Yes. That's exactly what I was going to say. Two British brothers dueling it out for the US.
Starting point is 01:32:37 Oh, we kill her. Are the Molon. Are the Molon. Are the Molonari's Englishmen too? Are the Mollonari's twins? Molinaris? Are they twins? No.
Starting point is 01:32:47 No. I was going to say, it feels rare that we don't do. I think Eduardo's older, right? Yeah. I believe so. I mean, maybe just because the Hoygard are twins when we see them quite frequently, but it's rare to see brothers,
Starting point is 01:32:57 you know, out on tour that are not are not twins, but maybe that's... The Hoyguards don't really do a lot either. They just finished T-32 a ton. It's just, yeah, brothers in contention and never, never have it. And then, actually, I just,
Starting point is 01:33:13 couple more. Corey Connors. I can't say enough bad things about that guy's potty. I mean, it's fucking incredible. Comical every time they flip to him. That's bad. God, what is not even in the realm? Yeah, one more thing. I just need to shout out how bad Cory Connors is a putty.
Starting point is 01:33:30 Let's take a look at the pinch sheet. And then we could probably move closer towards wrapping here. Just took a quick glance at it. I don't see a, not a ton that's jumping off the page other than back left on two is probably going to be quite challenging assuming that wind
Starting point is 01:33:44 is coming. Let's see what is direction. West, northwest. I'll be into off the left to the back left pin on two. That's going to be quite challenging early on. Back left on three as well. Kind of back left on four as well. Damn, it's a shame Pete didn't make the cut because of one left pins
Starting point is 01:34:03 here. I know they're taunting him. Dicey little one over the right bunker on five. The par five. That one should be a fun one back left on six. Redan probably still in quite a quite a safe spot there. Nine is nasty.
Starting point is 01:34:20 Nine all the way in the back left. Ten all the way back there in the middle there is going to lead to some balls going along to that one. 11 all the way in the back. Short-sided. Of that one. I think these are, I mean,
Starting point is 01:34:35 not like comically hard pins, but like 15's back left. That was back left on Saturday, eight years ago and it was probably diceier then than it will be tomorrow but uh 16 16 is one that like it it forces you up the left side even more on your right like front right on 16 um so some good ones tomorrow man i think uh turn it up for i'm uh i'm excited very excited for tomorrow i'm very excited for some golf quick quick uh quickly on tea times for tomorrow the final group is off at 345, that is Fitz and Wyndham Clark, Sam Steven Zander Schoffley, 334, Moracawa, Tom Kim, 323,
Starting point is 01:35:17 Harry Higgs and Justin Thomas 312, some other highlights in there, Rory and Mav at 212, right before them, Scotty Schaeffler and Brian Harmon at 201. First tee time is 9 o'clock, Dylan Wu, Jacob Bridgman, kind of the first big name that's kind of somewhat still in it, uh, tea time, I think is 1250 with Tommy and Ludwig. Is Tommy still in it,
Starting point is 01:35:41 T.C? I'll ask that. You guys, you guys, tell me. I mean, no, I'm asking,
Starting point is 01:35:44 I'm asking you. You guys know, you guys know what my answer is. T.C., I, you know, watched a lot of golf from Tommy today. I thought he,
Starting point is 01:35:51 he, he fought. He had a, he had a really bad case of the poofs early. Wow. A lot of just weak right misses, just poofy stuff. And then he,
Starting point is 01:36:00 I thought he rideed the ship. He had a really nice birdie on 12. And then it was, just kind of a, you know, a false, a false summit. It looks like he, he kind of scraped it around coming in. So I didn't see the end of the round, but he, he battled. I will give him that. He didn't have great ball striking, but he made like an awesome up and, you know, he made it some really good pars, an awesome par on three. He stayed in the fight when he didn't have his best stuff, when he had a case of the poofs.
Starting point is 01:36:31 Appreciate that, Neil. I don't think he's going away. I think we're going to have a good, we're going to have a good head-to-head on that Sam Burns Fleetwood. I think that's going to go down to the wire. Sorry if we mentioned this, Dege, but just shouting out the five amateurs made the cut. Yeah, how about that?
Starting point is 01:36:48 Pretty insane. Pungu Music Sensation Writer Cowan. Miles Russell. He's born in November of 2008. He's going to be playing the weekend of the U.S. Open. He's 17 years old. Shot 72-71. Jackson.
Starting point is 01:37:02 Financial crisis. Yeah. Jackson Coyvin, 72, 71. He's around Merrick Fleming, 7272, and Eric Lee, 7470, all to be playing the weekend, which is pretty sweet. T.C., you didn't want to take the bait on my Sam Stevens as the modern Streb? No, I don't. I'm not ready for that yet. I'm not ready for that yet.
Starting point is 01:37:28 I mean, strebs won a lot. Yeah, I mean, he's just getting going, you know, he's 20, 28, 29 years old. You can say potential, but not. Yeah, I think he's, I think he's stepping into Strebs to Strebs' footsteps. We can take that offline. You know, Dege, I was thinking about it today. I was kind of ready to declare ZB, the, you know, maybe the Kirkland signature Chez. Sure.
Starting point is 01:37:51 You know, give me 11 ZBs. We can, we can win state with that the way he played it at. Real golfer, man. Yeah. Yeah. What did you guys think of Nicholas Norgaard and Victor Hovlin's pants today? I think they want us to comment on it. Okay.
Starting point is 01:38:08 And I'm not going to do it. I've resisted on Twitter. I think that's what they want. A couple other miscuts. I think P might have to take a major medical for the cold sore. He's got that going on. Pet Can't lay missed the cut. Who could have seen that coming?
Starting point is 01:38:33 Harris English missed the cut. That's really disappointing. Sucks. First ever cut at the U.S. Open. I think he makes 10 in a row or something. Andrew Novak, we got to pull him off the team now. I know. We had put him on the team on Thursday.
Starting point is 01:38:47 I've got to tap him on the shoulder. Ask him to turn in his jersey for now, for now. Still a chance to get back on. All right. I'm going to move us towards rapid because this was a long Friday night show. Usually the shortest one. Usually the hardest one to do. But a lot to talk about tonight.
Starting point is 01:39:05 Neil, what are you going to go watch tomorrow? Oh, I haven't gotten. that far, man. I just want to eat my little Neros and get off my feet for a minute. We got some time in the morning to make a plan. Yeah, sleep in. Late, late, yeah, that's what I'm saying. I got
Starting point is 01:39:21 to think this one through. You got me. I want you out there, see what the grounds crews doing with these greens. I want the full report on that. No, because I'd like to, I'd like to 1.35.m. wake up for you, Dale. Get out there with the boys. Maybe do the, uh, the
Starting point is 01:39:36 Tai Chi with the boys in Cardborn. You see that video, the grounds crew? I had an idea. I wanted Randy to, I wanted to show them that on a live show for the first time and just keep a straight face challenge of all the, all the grounds crew workers doing Tai Chi and run it in place before, before they go out. I think Randy would have got a big kick out of that. I think you could, you could still show it to him. There's no way Randy's watching this. Absolutely not. It's good point. Good point. John and John Jennings is he's on the verge of retirement like I think if if the USGA doesn't
Starting point is 01:40:11 put their chips in over the next 32 hours or so I could see him going rogue and say I'm going out on top like it goes vertical yeah God I love that storyline burn them out that's right uh TC sorry about your uh Australia your Australia guys losing today that's a tough thank you. Yeah, well, Polisic didn't play, which lacks the most important ability. That was the big takeaway from today. Well, no, THG promised us he was going to play and he didn't. Well, yeah, that's what.
Starting point is 01:40:50 Rare men. Rare. Now they could wrestle for the third game. I'm so in on this team, man. They're fun to watch. It's coming home. That's much today. Go on you, USA.
