Be the right club.
Be the right club today.
Johnny, that's better than most.
How about him?
That is better than most.
Better than most.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Laying Up live show presented by
Titleist Ryan Fox is your open champion.
Solly here, just in shambles, absolutely devastated by the final.
result. I'm not even going to let you guys do it. I'm taking it. I'm going to get right out in front of it before you guys do your whole bit, do your whole thing. Hello, TJ. How are you? Hey, I'm great. So as hard as you've been on Foxy over the years, today's a day for celebration. For sure. It's just put my beef aside tonight. I pledge to you all of my hate for Foxy. I'm putting aside completely tonight. All the ways he's wrong me in the past. We are going to completely forget about all that. And I'm going to give the guy his flowers tonight. Okay. Oh my God. What a day of sport, man. That's
That's as good as it gets.
I was giddy.
I was absolutely giddy watching that finish.
Can't wait to talk about it.
Literally the only thing I wish was that it wasn't like Cam Young,
whose heart he just ripped out.
Like if it was, you know, someone else on the board,
I think I would be,
have been through the,
through the mood.
I wanted a playoff,
but that was one of the most epic finishes
we're going to see in a major.
TC is here.
Of course, hello, TC.
Hello, Sali.
I'm happy to invite my guy,
to welcome my guy Foxy into the brotherhood.
Not only the links,
Brotherhood, the Lynxmaster at
Burkdale, Brotherhood.
The fact, listen, if you've
listened to this podcast for a long time, you know
the jokes, you know, the inside
jokes, the bits, how far back
some of the Foxy stuff goes, the fact
that we were there a couple months ago taking
fake Clare Jugg photos of T.C.
On that same bunker and
fucking Foxy is your
champion golfer of the year is just, I'm
just, I had such a fun time today.
Can't explain it. It was so good.
It was an epic finish.
Before we get there, the No Langup podcast is brought to you by the new Tidalis GTS-D drivers.
There's a reason why Tidalus has been the most played driver brand on the PGA tour for seven straight seasons and counting speed, stability, and consistency.
GTS is built for complete driver performance and giving you more confidence off the T.
It's why more and more tour players continue to add the new GTS2, GTS3 and GTS4 driver models to the bag.
Go to Tidilis.com to book your fitting and experience.
titleless driver technology for yourself.
Complete game change of this driver.
I live very, very close to a golf course that has OB that lines every single hole,
and it's not a golf course that makes me want to go play until I put this driver in play,
and I no longer think about the OB at all.
It's completely transformed my enjoyment of the game of golf.
So go get yourself fit for a GTS driver at tidalist.com.
That's true.
Everything I just said is completely 100% true and not in the script for the record.
So, guys, I had it.
They had the serial on data golf that he,
Ryan Fox gained 2.1, two strokes on the field with his Bertie par,
birdie finish.
The comps to that in major championship history.
Kegan Bradley 2.89 at the 2011 PGA.
Payne Stewart, 2.51 at the 89 PGA.
Nicholas did it with 2.4 at the 86 Masters.
Faudo, ROM.
That's the company that Ryan Fox is in with his Bertie par,
finish, including a bad, not bad,
ball rolling into the bunker on 17.
And he could have birded 17 as well,
because he recovered so nicely from that.
Just an absolutely, he grabbed this thing.
He grabbed this thing and took it when everybody else was fondering in the late wave.
Yes, he did.
It was unbelievable, man.
T.C., the floor is yours.
This is your guy.
I thought the up and down on 15 was the peak of,
just mental toughness going right in splashed it right out he he plays so fast he gets to it he gets to
his work he doesn't ruminate he's not bitching about getting a bad break he goes in he splashes it
out hits a great chip makes the put gets up and down and that that just showed like the amount of
heart and just resolve that that shows in the moment without feeling far without feeling sorry for
yourself one time is remarkable. And I felt like all day he just like he wanted he wanted the moment.
He, he, he hit the shots, man. Like the drive on 18 was just like, I mean, that was immense, right?
And I and the approach and the approach into 17 and even the, totally. And the approach into 16 and the
puddle on 16, even the T shot he hit on 17 that rolled in the bunker was like, yeah, maybe the
wrong strategy, but he was doing exactly what he tried to do. It just rolled a foot too far and then
hit a great punch out and a great approach from there like he hit literally all the shots coming in and
gosh it's just hard to honestly think back to somebody that like close the door over like an hour
like that uh coming down the the final three whole stretch of a major like the last and nobody else
seemed to want it right nobody else would just like like there were plenty of opportunities for
guys to make putts or or you know hit the shot and nobody else seemed to rise to the occasion and i would
go back to Foxy's 62 and the shot he hit out of the bunker on, you know, Saturday midday was
like that that shot out of the bunker on 18. Like that is pushing all of your chips in even before
you realize you're at the final table. Uh, it's fantastic. I love, I like I was, I was enthralled and
invigorated watching that. I just love it when somebody goes out and wins it. And they play to
win and they're fucking fearless. I was so ready for a playoff.
Like I was looking forward to a playoff because I enjoyed this week so much.
Like I don't want it to end.
I wanted to keep going.
And I'm in my head, I'm just like, there's no way he's going to birdie eight.
Like nobody birdied 18.
But like there's, there's no chance.
And he just stepped up and it started with that T shot.
I mean, you hear pro golfers talk about this all the time.
I had great commitment.
I was really committed to my shots.
I've genuinely never seen more extort like from the outside looking in.
You can just feel it through your TV screen.
Like that guy is the most committed to that driver swing that I've ever.
I was like an audible, holy shit moment when that came off the club face.
And credit to Sam Burns, who also hit an unbelievable tee shot on 18 as well.
But yeah, then he stepped up and hit the midiron.
He stepped up and hit the putt very quickly, as you mentioned.
22 seconds, 22 seconds after Burns got the ball out of the hole.
Like, it fell faster than that.
That it's so ridiculous.
It's just crazy.
Those are the guys, like you just don't ever see that person win it, you know?
It feels like, it just feels rare.
it feels worthy.
It was just awesome.
That's kind of everything I'm looking for out of the Open Championship.
And if you thought this was a clunker, as I heard people talking about,
we're just not going to see things the same way.
And that's fine.
But man, I just couldn't wipe the spiral off my face all day.
Can we just to summarize how incredibly unlikely this was.
He was 750 to 1 at the halfway point of this tournament.
Justin Ray had it.
He was T-56.
52 after 36 holes, and it is the largest 36-hole comeback by position to win a men's major in history.
In the history of the game, nobody has been farther back at the halfway point and won a major.
And it was Ryan Fox in an open championship.
Like, they're just an absolutely unimaginable sequence of events over the last two days.
And it's incredible, too, that there's four guys shot 62 this week.
And the winning score was minus 10.
like three guys. Sorry, sorry, sorry, three guys shut 62 this week.
The winning score was minus 10. Um, I think that's a credit to Burkdale of like it's,
it gives and it takes and it's, and it ebbs and it flows and it keeps you honest. And it may not be
like people getting punished out of the rough like, you know, a lot of people want to see.
But I thought even like Sam Burns on the stretch today, that rough up the right side of 17 or 18,
like that was, that was, I think it was on 17. That was serious rough. Like it's, it's just a little
knicks and scrapes that kind of add up over the course of a week, which is, I think,
what we were hoping for as well. But back to Foxy, man, I just, I think, like, it's very rare that
like you talk to people, you know, in New Zealand, in the States, in the UK, and to a man,
everybody's like, dude, he's like the nicest guy you'll meet. Like, he's just, he's a sportsman.
His, like, his dad's a legend. Like, he comes from a great family. And, and he, I don't know,
It's just, it's like it's good to see good people win stuff like this.
It like it doesn't always happen.
And like there's just, he just seems like a proper dude's dude.
Like he just wants to have a pint, you know.
The complete opposite of a pampered fuck.
Like in like the complete opposite of the modern tour pro in terms of just, you know,
the way he carries himself and just the simplistic way.
I don't know much about him.
I don't know him at all.
But like just the relatively simplistic way he can.
carries himself and just matter of fact,
where he plays the game and handles himself with media,
and you just have never heard a bad thing about him.
It just makes it, I don't know,
doing all that in the final group, too,
is just something else, man.
I mean, that's what we were talking about last night.
He shot 62 when it was, the getting was good yesterday morning
in a completely different environment,
then shot the 68 today in the final group,
watching Sam Burns have all kinds of problems right next to them.
And a lot of guys, you know,
having all the waiting he had to do with the guys in front of them.
It just,
that was a major we're going to remember for quite some time.
Incredible run of major winners we've had over the last three.
But last I'll say,
I want to say on those 62s TC,
and we talked to this a little bit earlier in the week,
but if you don't listen to all the shows during the week,
it's like it wasn't like there were 62s and like 63s right behind it
and a group of 64 is right behind it.
Like the 62s were that,
and I get some people don't like low scores.
That's fine.
I'm not going to try to convince you what's alike.
But I would say to that is like,
to your point about complimenting Burkdale
to like the fact that it at least offers that up
makes for really interesting watching
like you can go when Cam Young got on offense today
it was like oh dude he could get this hole now
he could get this one and then when you start struggling
like Burns was today I was like oh god he's got no shit
he's going to get boned by that hole that I thought
can could birdie because how good he was hitting it
the line was in the really really really good place
with Burkdale I think and
yeah I
I kind of get a little bit of the overreact
to the low scores, but man, I think this golf course held up and identified a proper champion.
And the beefing up of that 18th hole kind of defined this tournament, really.
I mean, Cam Young drove it into a bunker that wasn't the same size and a little bit different
location there prior.
And that cost him and he makes bogey.
And we saw a ton of people struggle with that T shot over the course of the last four days.
And Foxy stepping up and striping that one and earning that birdie, man.
That was that was theater.
Like that was a really, really, really stern 18th hole,
which is kind of what we've been asking for more at major championships.
And he passed the test and gave us a great moment.
The got it first of all, got to credit the members for that bunker.
Thank you to them.
It's, it's, I think you said it very well.
So I were like the not all this, everything would felt very in proportion this week.
Where it's like if you see a number on a leaderboard 62 that you don't like,
you got to look at what else is going on around it.
And Foxy's round yesterday was the best round of the day by three full shots.
There wasn't a million 62s out there.
Sam Burns shot the second best round of the day way back in the afternoon and like deserved
every square inch of it.
It was just if you're watching the shots, it was awesome.
If you're watching the leaderboard, I could see it.
It doesn't feel cheap.
Yeah, nothing about it felt cheap.
And he made every Foxy made everything yesterday and kind of earned it.
And you could kind of see as the tournament went on how much harder it got to make putts.
you know, all of those different things.
It all just kind of felt like it was all working together.
And then you got, as soon as somebody got off, you know, off their run,
like Cam Young, you said it got on an absolute heater this morning.
And when he did miss, it was always like,
dude, he's going to have to be creative in how he gets this up and down.
And he's going to have to really earn it to keep the momentum going.
And when you didn't do it, we saw what happened with Tommy.
Like he had a nice, fiery start.
And then you can get off the track pretty easily.
You saw it was Siwu Kim on the back where he had everything going and
of a sudden just misses in the wrong spot on 16 and it's like man you're you're done now your momentum
is gone you didn't you're not going to answer the challenge and foxy just kept doing it over and over
and going back to to what you're saying earlier too i mean he's he's almost 40 he looks like a dad you
would see at costco just like rocking up with a big thing of bottled water and a you know some discount
booze or something like it's just it i just love everything about it he seems like it seems like the entire
world of golf, of professional golf is going in this direction. And Foxy is from so far over here
that it's just, I don't know how you can do anything, but just have a massive smile on your face
for it. He's, he's been through. He's like one of those guys that you look at and you're like,
man, tell me, I would love to sit down and have some beers. Just tell me where your career started
and all the twists and turns that it's, it's been through. All the different tours you've played,
all the different bumps and grinds that you've had to do to get to this point. It's just, it's
awesome man i had nothing but respect for that kind of career and he didn't start playing the game till
he was 17 high school yeah which is another antidote to the modern yes uh guys he made 400 and 58 feet
of pots this week number one in the field i know that i know that really gets gets he had two
three pots brandy just got up in the bullpen there to hear that but like i think the other thing with
Markdale is the sequence of holes.
Like I loved what they did with four today,
where they bumped that pin up.
They shortened the hole.
And it was like, cool.
Like this is a shorter hole,
but this is a trickier spot.
Or I thought six was great all week.
I thought eight great hole.
And then like as it kind of ramps up,
like that pressure ramps up and you don't get your first par five until
until 14.
And so you're just kind of like chomping at the bit.
But then it's a three shot.
And then 17 feels like last chance kitchen.
And then, you know,
20, 40.
Yeah.
And then 18 is like, oh my gosh.
Like this is, all right.
This is,
this is like trial by fire.
Like I got to hit the shots.
There's no shortcuts at all.
And like you got to hit either you got to hit driver or you got to just hit a damn good second shot and play for par.
And so for him to Bertie 18 in that fashion was just.
And like it was so cool too the way that all the fans like,
Like, I mean, he was saying like they, they were just immensely in favor of him.
But without diminishing, like, you know, anybody that he was playing against.
I think that that's, I don't know, it says something.
I think best, best fans in golf, it's truly like, like, I think there's something that with him that resonated to the fans in Southport.
And those don't seem like very easy people to bullshit.
Totally.
It just the shouts have come on Foxy lad to the 39 year old dad bog.
It's just, that's it, man.
It's not electric.
His putting stance.
Yeah.
Weird ass cold swing.
Hitting the heaviest midirons you've ever seen in your life.
I mean, it's just killer.
Never led the field in putting for the entire week with that weird ass putting stance as well.
Exactly.
And, and Sally, I think one of the things I bristled out in the past with like the,
like we've had some fun back and forth about the, the, the, the, the low stinger shot he hit it.
at August.
The Masters and him getting all that credit.
This whole thing literally started was like,
he had a really low shot.
It was sick shot to do 11.
It was a really low shot.
But it went over the green.
But these guys freaked out back.
See,
that's a proper player right there.
It wasn't even a good shot.
I was just like,
wait a second here, guys.
Like that he airmailed the green.
What are you talking about here?
It's a future looking index.
Yeah.
That is the basis of the proper player thing.
And I think, yeah,
but I don't know even beyond that like there's stuff that gets lost in the stats right of like you
could look at his stats from various tour events and say like oh this guy is just a bomb and gouge
specialist he's and I think that's where like the quality of his iron play gets lost a little bit right
and knowing how to hit the shots and and and having that full arsenal in your back the counter to that
and this is not me becoming the hater is like well he never top 10 in a major in his life prior to this
Right?
The track record is, it's interesting.
It's in there. It's interesting.
It's interesting, of course, but he's never done it, right?
Like, that's that was done.
They wouldn't even let him on the President's Cup team, for God's sake, which still pisses me off twice.
He'll be on it this year and he'll be a fantastic fit for Medina.
That's true.
That's true.
So should we talk, Camby?
Well, I was going to say one more thing on Burkdale.
I've said this a couple times, but again, if you don't listen to every show, I feel like,
at least personally, I hope a lot of other people feel this way. But I've always had, the English
venues have always just kind of smushed together as like, there's the ones in Scotland,
there's the ones Tiger one at, there's the ones. And like, then there's the others. And I've
always had a hard time discerning. And I just, I hope Burkdale rose up in, in a lot of people's
rankings this week like it did for me. I mean, I know it's, you got to put, it's, you can only go
so high, right? Because they're all so good. I know, Sally, we've talked about that before. But it's,
It was just a place that I just hadn't given full credit to in the past.
And like you said, TC, the sequencing, the visuals with all the dunes.
It's just like the best of, it's the best of links golf, man.
It's got everything that you see in Scotland.
It's got pieces of what you see in Ireland.
It's in such a cool location.
It's just, hats off to awesome.
I think it's the best of championship links golf.
It helps to have seen it in the best possible, you know, firmness that we could have
possibly seen it in just baked out the whole week got no rain this entire week like that was a
unicorn kind of situation but brought out a lot of a lot of really fun features and and like
it's good too that it fits like the open profile like it's a good business open for for the
you know what I mean like some of these some really good golf courses don't fit the economic
situation nearly as well like you kind of see some some like port rush I like port rush but like that
is proven to be a quite an economic decision
for the RNA to go there.
And I don't know, I guess like a, and like,
Lhythm is not the most economic,
but like to have a golf course that easily clears the,
the level of championship play, like to elevate this championship
and also is really good from an economic standpoint.
It's like, and like straight up,
like Northwest England just gets better weather than a lot of areas of Scotland
and Northern Ireland and a lot of other places to the point where like we were,
you know,
like we got this time around.
And yeah, we didn't get the win we wanted, but I don't know.
Burkdale is, you know, stamp it.
Like this is the best venue in the northwest England, I think.
Like, I think it clears Royal Liverpool for me.
A little unfair, like, because we didn't, we got rain at Royal Liverpool.
I was going to say, I think if you did that.
Yeah.
It is, but I still, I still think like this one's, this one not.
There's more, there's more to it.
There's more, like, I think the, I think the floor is higher for sure.
just the dunes with the crowd pops like there was a vibe there like there was an atmosphere that
came through the television that i think is harder on flatterlings golf courses was my is
well it depended on which which stream you were watching for it to say we call it hamsterdam for a
reason tc we're not letting it infect the rest of the show it was funny i went back and i listened to
our pod from i don't know it was a few years ago about like like us ranking the open rhoda
venues and our person and listen like a few takes i wish i had back in there but i was also really like
i was kind of in my own head too i'm like man i think i think i'm just giving burkdale way too much
credit i think like i think i just we just had a great day out there when we went out there the first
time and it was it was great and and you know i'm kind of transfixed by the list of winners and i feel like
now i feel like all right no that was that wasn't recency bias that was actual based in fact so yeah no
like we said there's no bad venues can we talk cam guys that was that was a monumental round of golf
that was such an awesome round of golf i was viking with it from the very beginning i don't even know
if you guys were up yet and i'm just blowing up this our slack thread i woke up on the second
all the sequence of events of cam uh i i messed i thought uh whoever he was playing with bang went off
the stick uh almost equaled five and i thought it was cam i was really freaking out at that point but
just one of the most impressive builds of a golf round
I've seen in terms of hitting incredible shots,
making putts we needed to.
I think only like the,
on 10,
I think he missed a put,
a relatively short birdie putt.
But all the misses he had coming in
were in the exact right spots,
getting it up and down.
Got it all the way to 10 under par.
That was looking like a really,
really,
really good number.
Didn't miss by much off the T on 18,
but again,
the design feature of that whole Goddum,
goes into the bunker,
tries to pull off the,
shot went for the shot hits the lip of the bunker ricochets out he ends up in the green side bunker
almost holds it to get in the house at minus 10 makes the par put it gets in at minus 9
ends up one falling one shot short but i am i'm gutted for the dude i mean another another runner up
at the open championship um and just a like the 73 yesterday was was painful and and really where
it hurt but it offered him the opportunity to get out in the goal
golf course before the wind picked up a little bit and he took advantage of it when not a lot of other guys were doing it.
And just a really, really, really, really solid performance.
And the guy probably should have been in a playoff to win the open today.
And just that putt flipped in on 18 for Ryan Fox.
Yeah.
I don't know how to feel about it.
It's on one hand, I'm like, I know there's more golf this year and it's only July 19th.
But that was kind of the last, the last big one.
Right.
And it's, it is good to see him end, quote, unquote, the year in the place that he should be, right?
We saw him at the beginning of the year, nobody was hotter.
We're debating like, is he the hottest player in the world right now type of stuff?
Is he number two or number three kind of guy in the world and just weird dip into the wilderness midyear?
And you just don't want, I don't know, you don't want that run to be over, right?
Like I love seeing him as as one of the three, you know, I'll say dudes.
you want to see him as one of the three dudes in golf.
The prodigal dude, perhaps.
You know, he was wandering, but he came back home today.
So it was good to see that.
But at the same time,
Salli, it is a little bit of a like, man,
how many, how many these calls are we going to have?
Like, this is, it's got to break through at some point.
Who, who, who, Aaron Rye?
One, Foxy?
Fuck, Foxy's a major champion.
Like, it is, but that's kind of what,
it's why I think these,
watching somebody play golf for 10 years is so much more interesting than watching somebody play golf for a year.
You know, it takes a while for this buildup to really hit a fever pitch.
And I mean, I think it just makes it going into the, this is ridiculous because the Masters isn't for eight months or whatever.
But it's just makes going into the Masters all that much better.
Like he's starting to become the laser focus of when's it going to happen for this guy.
Everything says it's supposed to happen and it hasn't yet.
What's going on?
I just think that makes it really fun to watch.
Yeah, I think it was this 29th major championship.
This is, or I'm sorry, this is he's 29 years old.
This was his 22nd major championship and his fourth top three finish in majors.
Like it's, it's impressive, man.
He's done.
He's, you know, he's finished top 10 and, you know, 33% of the majors, more than that,
of the majors that he's played, five top five finishes.
Like, it's a, it's a really impressive record.
He's, he's putting together.
and God, I thought it was his day.
I really did.
He spent a lot of time in the Fidora 5,
and I was just really glad to see the putter turn around today.
Because I feel like with Cam, it's almost like you feel like,
oh, shit, we're regressing, we're regressing.
The bad putter's coming back out.
Also, guys, I'm just...
The honeymoon had ended or not.
I'm just getting across this.
This is per Fraser Wilkin on Twitter,
or X the Everything app.
He's a golf coach down to New Zealand.
He said, hate to break the narrative.
Foxy has not had a beer since he was 18 due to an allergic reaction.
So there will be pints of red flowing tonight, though.
How about that?
Interesting.
All right, never mind.
I take back everything I said.
He's not a bloke.
Yeah.
I think something else, like if you win a major, especially the open, if you win the open as an Aussie or a Kiwi or an Argentine or whatever,
I feel like the golf world owes you to like, all right, you know what,
we're going to come, a lot of guys are going to come play your national open.
The, you know, the next one that there is.
Like, I feel like the champions dinner.
Yeah.
I kind of like that.
I like that idea.
I do like, I think when those guys win, it does feel even more like the world's open.
I felt that same way with Cam Smith, right?
And him talking about, you know, how much this is, you know, yeah, it's the world's,
the world's open. Everybody kind of puts that on the masters, I feel like, with all the Norman
close calls and everything. But I just, I don't know, I think that drives, drives that home a little
bit more when one of these guys win. I would see, all right, so the beer thing doesn't work. That's fine.
If you want to pull some, pull some pines, I would recommend T.C. You reach for a high noon,
a vodka seltzer. You could grab a vodka iced tea. You could grab a tequila seltzer. No matter
the occasion, high noon has something for you. I'm going tangerine tonight. I always say,
This one tastes like Gatorade.
Large Gatorade for me.
This one's, this one's very good.
This will definitely be a two, two, two drink night.
I got the cranberry one rating as well.
If you're looking for your next pack, check out the high noon tequila,
seltzer fiesta pack.
There's an eight pack or there's a bigger 12 pack if you want Moss Fiesta.
All are made with real tequila, real juice, perfect for any fiesta,
no matter where you plan to throw it.
Find the high noon tequila, seltzer fiesta pack nearest you at high noon spirits.com.
High noon sun's up.
Should we bring in some crew here?
here? Yeah, absolutely.
I think we've been keeping
them in the wings waiting here.
I think Scotty Schifler.
Speaking of blokes.
Speaking of blokes.
I'm glad we made it
almost 30 minutes before we get to the Scotty situation
from today, I believe here.
But let's bring in Icarito.
Neil, he's been waiting in the wings.
Gentlemen. God, you guys are
putting me in the cooler. I'm so
fired up to talk some G.
Unbelievable. Bill Shankly shit from
Foxy today made me feel things gentlemen I was playing with pace and desire and zeal and I just I
loved it he was hitting shots with like deed I think you said a complete and utter commitment and like a
true vibe of fearlessness and I was trying to think about this like you know because you could
be like oh some you know some mule one some journeyman you know like why why do I feel this way now
and I didn't feel this way with Aaron Rye and no offense to Aaron Rye but it's not you know
He made that massive put on, what, 17, you know, it's like a lot of fireworks there.
And I think it's just a lot of it's aesthetic for me.
You know, the swing is unique.
His age, nothing adds up, but he's just sending it.
And a lot of times when a guy like that is in this position, it feels like the end of a soccer game, like a one-nothing game.
And they're just, you know, distribution, like playing keep-away.
And this felt like a suburban dad, New Zealand guy is doing his best Steph Curry impersonation.
of like the gold medal game.
I mean, he's just like shooting bombs from deep.
These irons are coming down right on the flag.
He's doing things that nobody else in the final six groups are able to do.
And he's, and he's like doing what he's intending to do.
He's going to win the golf tournament.
And the aesthetic and how he did it is, I think, what matters to me.
And I think the other thing is I would not underestimate the pace with which he plays.
And what a contrast that is to all the mechanical bullshit we see from pros with how they get lined up.
and the shirt tucking and just all the 30 things on the pre-flight checklist.
And this guy's just like, no, man, I'm just going to step in there and I'm going to hit this ball and I'm going to hit it there.
And then even when he's in that bunker and he's chipping out backwards on 15, he's making that decision like, all right, the decisions to play backwards.
Like, not even I can do that.
You know, you're going to go through the five stages of grief.
Like, well, maybe I could.
What if I get down on one knee?
And what if I do this?
And let me go, let me get a rules official and see if I can get some type of free drop.
And it's like, no, I'm just going to hit it backwards and get it.
up and down. So anyway, I just wanted to get that in because I, it was such a refreshing,
just a refreshing win to see somebody do it like that. I was thinking about this, Neil, I was
tweeting something about this too, and we were talking about Cam Young and the shot on 18 and should
he have laid up, should he have gone for it? Was that the right call? And there's just a lot of like
big strong men saying, what a horrible decision, yada, yada, yada. And I was just thinking about it.
Maybe I'm watching too much baseball, but I just love seeing golf as a sport. And I feel this with
Foxy and everything you just said too, where it's like you can have all the analytics prep,
you can have your whole game plan before it starts. But once the game starts, there's no one's
standing there with a big laminated sheet of all the potential outcomes and saying like, actually
you need to do this based on what's going on all around you. Just don't even think here's the
play. Like, you just have to figure it out for yourself. And I just, I love the contrast of,
or not even the contrast, I guess similarities of what Cam had to do there.
It's like, no, you know what? I think this is a moment where I need to push my chips in. And
granted, I think he just hit a bad shot.
He had a six iron.
He was trying to open wide, wide open and try to get to the front of the green.
I think you just hit it thin and hit it into the lip of that bunker.
And same thing with Foxy, right?
It's not like, it's not like anybody's out there being like, well, because of the back nine scoring average
and because things are manipulating this way, this hole is actually, there's a stroke skating advantage here.
Like, you just got to hit the hole and just go for it.
And that was laid bare today, I think, through both of those guys.
X war.
There's no X-Wob out there.
Yeah.
You got to get your stats, right, T.C.
If you're going to try to, there's no ex-war.
All right.
Another thing, maybe it's more, uh, there's peace.
This might be more commentary on me, but, uh, so I'm watching it.
And his putting stance and the open feet, you know, is like, I got a buddy Matt, uh,
who tours ACL like 95 times playing college football.
And he's the only person that I know that has a stance like that.
And he does it because he's ripped his knee up a million times.
And he doesn't hit it very good.
Uh, but to see somebody like Foxy do that, I don't know if this is true.
But when I'm watching golf, I'm like, man, what I,
I wonder if he, like, blew his knee out.
You know, he's 39.
Like, there's a lot of wear and tear on a body like that.
And it's, but the fact that a guy's like, no, this is just, he's figured out a way,
a very unique way to hit the ball really fucking good and really far.
And I just think, I miss that in golf as well.
And I'm kind of saying that his approach, the pace with which he plays and the uniqueness
of a swing all factor into that aesthetic that I was talking about.
And it makes me wonder.
It makes me wonder if his dad was a rugby player.
Maybe he blew his knee out playing.
rugby. It's like, you know, I'm watching so much damn golf and so many commercials.
It's like, that's where my head goes. You know what I mean?
I would, exceptions to every rule, but like, there's not more Foxy's coming, I don't think,
is kind of what I was feeling today. I'm like, we need to enjoy this because they're rapidly,
they're an endangered species. And they're just not, they can't even reproduce at this point.
Yeah. They're not coming back, T.C. And we need to just, we need to soak this up, protect this guy.
They're getting hunted for their horns. Uh, if I can,
go back to the CAM situation on 18 though
Dege here's what I would say from
a strategy standpoint I think there
is a calculation that Cam did in the
moment that said if I pitch
out sideways I have got to work
for par like my expected
score is going to be blah blah blah
and if I go for it and hit the lip and it comes
out my expected score is probably
going to be pretty similar so it is
worth it is worth
the risk of trying to get it up
near the green on the green in the bunker
to try to make an easy for
Like that's that I've seen some criticism of his decision to try to hit it out of there.
I don't think the spot he ended up in was that different of an expected score than if he would have pitched out into the fairway left himself 100.
So so so he's talking expected score again here, guys.
We're creeping back away from Foxy's way.
I totally agree with you, Sally.
My point is like I just love that he has to make that decision on his own for sure, you know, independent of any other information.
He's just got to have the feel for the moment.
that's it's very cool and unique to golf and i gas again disappearing in other in other sports
quickly i gasped when he when he hit it because i thought he hit it ob for sure i thought he
right at that fence i was like holy shit it's not it's not a if it hits the hill it hits the hill it's
like if it hits this sand below the the the sod mound and then and then rides up the face and
goes straight right i was like man that's that's a wild way to see that play they did not see that
play.
Yeah.
Last thing, one other thing with Foxy, he's also given us like a multiple be right.
Oh, be right.
I think it's 16 into 18.
Oh, my God.
Be right.
I just loved it, man.
He's twirling it.
How coldest moment of the week could have been twirls it.
It hits a driving iron 327 off of 17 T's twirling it and it goes in the bunker.
I mean, he's just juiced up, man.
That's awesome.
I think we all know what the coldest over.
We know.
But that was.
He's called that last coldest moment for sure.
Foxy too.
He was he was jawing with radar on 13.
He was like,
I bet the boys up in the booth are all over me about about that one.
I didn't hit the right shot there off the team.
Radar,
they're just going back and forth with it.
It was great.
He just seemed like he was,
he was not only comfortable in the moment.
He was embracing the moment.
Yes.
For somebody like,
for being dead on us right now,
probably has only shot at one of these
for being completely honest of that
to play with zero inhibition
in a moment like that
whereas like a true once in a lifetime moment
to shoot 62 68 on the weekend
the open to win it by one birding
the 500 yard 18th hole finish
to make it happen like golly
he played with such little fear
if I in the final group too
I mean just compared to like
I mean Sam Burns
12 straight pars after three boats
You know, like kind of the opposite round playing in the same group.
Just couldn't, it couldn't muster the zeal and the fearlessness.
Yeah.
I'd like to make an apology on my Sam Burns.
I called him a dog yesterday.
I still respect him.
He's earned my respect.
But I think he's, he's who we thought he was on the Greens to an extent.
I hate that, T.C.
Because I was saying to you, I'm like, man, he's undoing a lot of work that I've
done to think that he's somebody other than who he might be.
Basically,
as soon as it started to get a little squirly,
a little unsharp with some of those irons.
I remember he hit an iron off the T and it was just not close.
He had another kind of flary one.
I was like,
oh, man,
I thought this was going to be the,
the slam the door kind of moment for Sam Burns.
And it could not have been less of that.
Two,
two really,
really,
really costly shots.
I'm obviously,
he went bogey on four,
five,
and six.
The pitch over the green,
on five was, you know, he cost him a full shot.
And then obviously driving in the burn on the next T shot on six was, you know, that's two shots, over two shots gained lost right there.
And he finished two shots back.
Like that's where it happened.
He still putted well today.
He had a above average putting day overall.
Yeah, but like when he needs it, you know what I mean?
Like, all right, you got to make this one.
This is, and there's just a few too many of the ones.
like he's probably not expected to make them.
But all right, you got to wiggle one of these in if you want to even have a shot at sniffing this.
And they're not going in.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If you want to win, that's definitely the case.
But it's, uh, I would, I would say he was let down by almost every part of his game today.
Uh, other than putter necessarily.
I don't think he hit the ball well enough to, to win the open.
He would, you know, he would, he would tell you that as well, unfortunately.
But I thought he was going to, I thought he was going to do it, man.
Yeah.
He said, uh, he said a really, really strong.
I mean, T7 at the.
Masters, T-26 at the PGA, runner up at the U.S. Open
3rd at the Open Championship.
He had two career top tens in majors coming into this year and had two top three finishes
this year alone.
He's played 26 majors now.
It's not a small sample of him.
So just a massive leap he has taken in this past year.
And he'll be on the President's Cup.
And hopefully he needs a good team event.
Because I still honestly believe people are doubt.
of this guy or don't like the guy because he's been in big spots next to Scotty
Sheffler and team events and not played well in them and they have discounted him as a player
because of that and T's like I said in the biggest tournaments this year he has played his best golf
and I salute that it's it's a hard one because it I feel like coming into yesterday it was very
you know oh man he's been knocking on the door he's been knocking on the door he hasn't been knocking
nearly as hard as cam young and it's pretty similar sample size and you know I feel like you
still you watch cam and you're you're much more like how the fuck is this not happened yet
whereas sam burns still does feel like a even a step away from that you know so it's there's still
still work to do for sure scottie sheffler final round 67 uh probably to zoom past that i don't
think there's anything that happened in his round today uh that needs any breaking down he
finishes in a tie for fourth with Tommy lad.
Yeah, nice birdie on 17 good up and down.
Got a birdie 17 left rough.
He was way over there on the left.
We got it.
We got to bring in the big man is his favorite player.
We can't talk about him without talking about his favorite player.
Hello, Big Randy.
Oh, hi, gentlemen.
How are we doing great?
How are you?
Nice hat, big.
We're good.
Let me just say, I know we're moving on from five.
But I've found myself, my wife is half Kiwi.
My daughter is a quarter Kiwi.
I found myself in and amongst a lot of newfound Kiwi family.
And it was a lot of fun to see Ryan Fox win this.
The family chat going crazy.
This was a fun one.
My daughter's first open championship and a Kiwi wins it.
I mean, that's the stuff you dream about right there.
How about that?
How about that?
on to Scotty 17 what do we think boys
you don't like the rule call your senator
that's exactly right
no you're exactly right i i think
my issue is not with scotty my
can we can we set it up let's let's go through the
the axes and o's here sally are we setting it up
based on NBC feed or world feed
hamster damn tc
why don't you start but start sally to set the context
you're you're dumping bodies outside the zone right now
LTC. All right. It's got to stay in the zone.
It's a free drop. If you can't find the bodies, it's
like, Sally, start on 17T
because that's where the drama really starts.
He hits a little peeler.
All he's trying to is miss that front left bunker.
It takes a pretty tough balance and
like kind of stops on the upslope.
Why?
Right of the bunkers.
Why?
Dude, that was like the verbal equivalent
of what Justin Rose did.
Yeah, just like, oh, whoa.
Jesus, dude.
I mean, it was like,
which was so funny. Randy, I know
this is your guy. His superpower is just
that doesn't bother me. Okay.
I guess we're just moving up. And it just boiled
over. It was great.
He needs to make a move.
He needs, he's
two shots back
of Cam Young, who's in the house
and Scott he's at 7 under. So he
goes for it from this upslope.
I think it nicks the
top of the hill on the way and is going
way left, way left
behind Claret's
a hospitality area, way left.
of 17 green.
I believe it misses left of there in like that gorsy area.
If you're watching this on the screen,
left of the hospitality area,
but behind this fence that you see here,
gets the ruling as they get up there to say it is in the whole area,
even behind Claret's is considered TIO.
You can see it from,
if we have the other angle as well, Cody,
from the sky,
you can see that there's more fenced off area behind
this to all say the entire ruling and it has been this way all week all this is considered temporary
immovable obstruction do they find the ball no uh they're on their way up to it one of the official
the guys walking with them has said like i've i've watched it on video they show the video replay of
it to show that it goes in this general area uh gabby herzing tweeted this earlier and said
if the player's ball has not been found but is known or virtually certain to have come to rest in a
tio the player can take relief blah blah blah blah blah from there there's people up
up in the hospitality as well that we're pointing as to where it went.
Long story short, they don't need to find the ball.
They don't really go looking for the ball because you can take the line of,
I don't want to get this wrong.
The entry point relief, I think, is kind of what they ended up doing,
going backwards.
I think he went back to about 100 yards.
Of course, he should have just written four down on the card.
Of course, gets it up and down for birdie.
He's a birdie away from birding 18 to maybe get into a playoff and just maybe, you know,
all the, I'm very happy we're not sitting here tonight discussing that as really affecting the champion golfer of the year.
But as you might predict, a lot of people up in arms about this situation.
And this is a big part of my platform.
Okay.
Key piece of everything I stand for.
I have no issue.
Scott, he didn't do anything wrong.
Let me get that out of the way.
Randy, you nailed it.
Got a call our congressman.
But we, this isn't, this is not good.
like a TIO area like I understand if he hit it in and it was underneath the grandstands sure
virtually certain it's there but that to blow it like a hundred yards left 50 yards left and
then not even have to look for it and like in the past I think what I'm upset about is the RNA in
the past has used drop areas for TIO relief and the fact that they didn't use a drop area here
I think is what I'm really upset about penal drop areas too.
Exactly.
Like that should not be.
I'm with you.
Because then Scotty doesn't interview after the round.
And his thoughts were like, oh, so walk us through what happened there.
He's like, yeah, well, you know, he's pressed.
He's trying to make birdie.
I hit a shot I wouldn't normally hit.
And I know I can miss left.
And so, you know, I went way left.
It's just like to act like these guys don't know they can blow it in there is like, eh.
I couldn't tell from that quote if he was saying I wouldn't normally hit that because I know I have safety left or because I, like, need to win the golf tournament.
I think he's only played.
You're right. He needs to win the golf tournament.
But he's also saying, I need to keep it up the left.
And I think that factors heavily into, oh, yeah, man, if you miss it, like, wait, like, you can go at this one.
You cannot miss it right.
But left, you're fine.
Because he said to, he said immediately to Ted Scott.
He said, oh, that's in the hospitality left, I think, which is like, he, like, he very, very aware that that's over there.
Like, the, the optics of this are what is bad for, like, just the, you know, pro golf in general.
It's like the course playing easier for these guys than it does for everybody, you know, any other buddy's trip that goes there.
I just think that we got to solve the TIO thing.
I just think there should be a penalty stroke involved or like the drop area is a good, I'll meet you in the middle there.
Like a penal drop.
Like, yeah.
Like that's it.
He can't just drop it where the people have trampled everything down and just get up and down.
I just, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
And it's not Scottie's fault.
It's just, I hate that that's, and it definitely impacts his strategy of how he plays the hole.
So it's, you know, it's poorly set up by the RNA.
That's what I'll say.
It's against the spirit of like what won out of championship golf at the very end of it, I think is the, not the enforcement of the rule, but like how that was set up, I think is very reasonable conclusion.
Because it felt wrong.
Remember when Big Shot Bob at the Scottish Open was in the heather and steps on the spring, he finds out he's a sprinkler and he is able to take a free drop and like hits it on and makes eagle.
it just felt like, wait, I did nothing wrong, of course, in that situation.
Same exact thing.
But it was just like, that doesn't feel right.
And he went to win the tournament.
And it was just like, that just doesn't marry up with like the consequence of the golf shot.
Part of that's a little bit of luck.
You know, there's a lot of luck that is involved in some of these things as well.
If I felt like Scottie was trying to hit it there on purpose and that was a bailout,
I would feel even worse about it.
I mean, obviously there's, it was not a good feeling when any of them.
I don't think he's trying to do it on purpose, but I think he knows he can, if I'm going to miss
anywhere, I'm going to miss left. That's, that's, that's, I mean, they got their whole
core strategy. Come on. Neil, that's where, too, he said, like, this happened to me, this has happened
to me previously and I knew the rule as well. So he's like, I'm not proud of the fact that I know
the rule, but like, I knew the rule. I, I think the most outrageous part is the fact that that
that entire area was was marked as TIO as well of like you know all the way back to that like
almost next T-box and I think that he didn't just hit it into the fucking hospitality guys he hit it
over the hospitality like left of the hospitality it like it's like any so anytime you go
over a fence in a pro golf tournament whether it's a you know for spectator safety or
hospitality or whatever I think that should be OB period point blank
Like these are the best players in the world. We shouldn't make it easier for them to get out of jail free.
Like he hit an awful shot and couldn't find his ball. He hit it so bad and he gets off Scott free.
And again, that's not a commentary on Scotty. That's a commentary on the rules.
I just think the governing bodies need to do a fucking better job of like cleaning some of this stuff up and the PGA tour as well. It stinks.
I, I, I, it, how do I say this? Like, he did hit a god awful.
shot that he couldn't find the ball. But he is in that moment, he's operating under the,
with this knowledge that this might happen. Right. If it is OB, you might have hit it over there.
Right. Like, it is a, is a, no, I know that. That's what I'm saying. It's his fault.
Let's put the fear of God in these guys of like, all right, if you, like, let's say you're in
Detroit and you're, and you're trying to do the three one three challenge. I remember Cameron
Champ did this a few years ago where he hit it like, like Bryson hit it one time, I think, I think it was
Bryson. He hit it into a hazard in Napa left of hospitality and got a free drop from it because
it was TIO. Like that's the kind of shit we're talking about here guys. It's depraved. And it's not,
again, it's not malicious on these guys intent. It's just them using the rules to their advantage.
I just think the rules stink. Just like our guy, Huber's catching all sorts of flack on X
the Everything app for being, for like being a reinstated amateur. I don't think Huber should be
a reinstated amateur either. But,
the USGA and the RNA says he is.
So it's like the rule, change the rules, you know.
The stance of the people that administer the rules, uh, about tournament relief is that
this is an unnatural part of the course.
It's not part of the design of the whole that is not meant to be an obstacle in your way.
Again, I'm just presenting I am, I've been on the side of you guys that there needs to
be some reform on this, but again, I'm just presenting this case of it is, it's not going
to be OB like that.
That's not going to happen.
Like that that's very clear from, uh, from, um, from,
from how they, what about DQ?
Do you think DQs on the table?
I think just, I mean, I think they're being a stroke with some line of sight relief, if you want to take that.
I know what they don't want to encourage people to hit it over hospitality for safety reasons.
But the other thing with this one, the TIO area was a new one for me.
The fact, I kind of thought like, hey, man, you should probably have to go look for that ball.
And if you don't find it, the lost ball supersedes the TIO stuff.
you know like if if the the actual claret area fluid of this generator the physical
air the physical hospitality is tio but if you hit it in the heather behind that and you can't
find it that's a fucking lost ball if you did find it then get your tio relief but then i think
yeah then it's like how do you know that it went in the heather and it didn't go inside the
because you found the truck right but like that's what i'm saying and you got people taking apart
generators to be like oh it's so this guy saw it bounce in here like i like i
I get why all of these things exist.
It's a bit like the Bryson rule where it's like somebody thought about this a lot.
They wrote this in a very, they weren't sitting around like, oh, shit, I didn't think about
how we're going to rule this, this area over here.
Well, just fucking make it up as we go.
Like they clearly thought about this for a very long time and how to apply the rules.
So this is where I always get, again, this is I'm not where did it cross on Twitter guy.
Like I kind of take a backseat on this stuff.
My gut, T.
TC, I'm with you.
This stinks.
Put up some red states.
If you guys don't want to roll the golf ball back, then great.
We're going to have penalties all over the place.
That's kind of where my head is at, but I understand how it got to this point.
I know that's kind of a milk toast sort of take.
Hospitality is so much bigger too.
Good.
Yeah.
Right. Totally.
Like Claren-Ler.
You know, Randy, I know you're a big Claretz guy.
What do you?
Let's say you.
Love the Clarets.
I think we're all on the same page.
T.C., I've steadfastly been on the TIO sucks for years now.
I'm with you guys 100% on that.
I think it's a he heady move by Scotty if he does know that rule.
Like I, if it was him or if it was anybody else,
it's like you might as well use the rules to your utmost advantage.
Like that's just being a competitor.
But yeah, the TIO stuff sucks in general.
It should be you get a line of sight relief like Neil said.
Get a line of site relief plus a penalty shot or play it as a lies.
Like those are your options.
They didn't just build that hospital.
tent right before you hit that second shot.
You know it's there.
It seems like the biggest no-brainer tweak that pro golf can make.
I don't understand why we're not doing it.
And it also seems like something that governing bodies could do,
theoretically, again, as I understand it,
seems like something they could do with like the stroke of a pen.
You don't need the PGA, like I know the PGA tour is different.
Like you would need the pack to probably figure out whether they want to run it that way
or model local rules and all that stuff.
but the USGA seemingly could just be like this area is designated as a hazard.
It seems like they could change that.
Again, the viewpoint there,
and we've asked rules officials specifically about this is like,
this is not part of the golf hole.
This is something we have put up for the entertainment value of this golf tournament.
This is not meant to be here.
This is not part of the design of the hole.
We are not going to make this a hazard.
But that, right or for wrong,
that is the viewpoint that I would be extremely surprised
But they're diminishing.
I would urge them to reconsider.
Yeah.
I don't know why they're putting that thing in there.
They're changing the strategy of the whole anyway.
So like it's a great.
Yeah, by that token solid, like if a ball bounces off of one of those and comes out
to the green, then you should have to replay the shot like if it's power lines.
I put this at the feet of the field.
You can't have it both ways, right?
Like it can't be there as a bumper to be used.
But also like, oh, no, no, no.
Don't pretend this doesn't exist is bullshit.
Maybe we should, uh, since that bunker on 18.
we have to thank the members for that.
I think this TIO area,
the members should have spoken up.
You got to wear this one.
We want this to be penalized.
The members should have stepped in on this.
And maybe,
like I don't even know how,
I don't even know how temporary Claren't is at this point.
It takes months to put up, you know,
like if it's big enough,
it's not temporary.
I mean, Randy, you've asked it before.
Like, aren't we all temporary?
Isn't, aren't all these courses temporary?
Hurry.
It's had he stopped.
Now we're asking the right questions, T.C.
Yeah, for the R&A, they had to be like,
fuck, we made it 70 holes in this tournament before one of these came about.
Like, we almost, no, I didn't know that was TIO back there.
Nobody else, that was not a topic of conversation at all, all week.
And sure enough, there just has to be one ball that goes there.
Which, again, like, if they would have found the ball, which he would have gotten relief anyways,
We kind of glossed past the point where Scotty's yelling and I don't know if you guys caught this on NBC, but this was on the world feed.
But where he's waving his hand saying everybody stop looking for the ball.
Don't want it.
Is where it's like, ah, okay, well, that's not, again, the right call.
Good strategy, but like not good optics.
That's a tough.
That's a tough one, you know.
Yeah.
We just need we need more OB, just generally in pro golf.
We need more OB because that's the only thing that scares these guys.
Like you saw it on one this week.
One was brilliant with the crosswind.
Johnny Rombo went out of bounds twice on the weekend on one.
So good.
And I would just say, let me, let me, if we're discussing spirit of the game,
I would say let's make it so let's put inbound OB or what's the term?
In course.
Yeah, in course OB.
I don't want to see guys ever playing down like the wrong fair.
ways you know i i want to take that out of it play it if if if we're going spirit of the game
then you're playing the hole as the architect laid it out you know that i don't think we should
be playing shoots and ladders and going to other fairways i can't promise you more obi randy i
cannot but i can promise you h and b okay i want to give a shout to our friends at holderness and
board best to ever do it folks summer best i ever do it be right oh be right oh be right oh be right
That was my foxy put on 18 there.
Summers in full swing.
It is time to stock up on some bottoms.
The Harwood short, the Anson pant, the McDaniel pant.
Of course, the active wear push.
The new Saunders short is great for the gym.
You run or just lounging.
I also want to give a shout to the swing knit collection.
It's off course performance button downs.
It gives you the polished look of a dress shirt with the comfort of your favorite polo.
It pairs great with chinos or jeans for office days.
Casual get-together's weekend.
and travel. No dry cleaning needed. You never want to have to rely on the dry cleaner. It's easy
care. It's got great stretch. It feels like you're wearing pajamas. NLU10 is the only discount code
on the market for Holderness and Bourne. That's HBGolf.com. NLU10 will get you 10% off.
Again, they make incredible stuff. We've worked them for literally over a decade now. I got my
bird shirt on today to celebrate Foxy's Birdie on 18. T.C.'s got his bird shirt there.
They got great t-shirts as well. Awesome stuff at HBGolf.com. Use code NLU10.
Coming out very soon.
Oh, no.
Kind of a waffle pants.
Quilted sweatpants.
Like the Wallace and the ward in sweatpants.
Oh, my goodness.
Can I get an early pair of those?
T.C., what's this one I got on?
It's like a cotton blend sort of thing.
I mean, just lovely.
One of my favorite trips I've ever had.
This is one of the new hoodies, too.
It's got this texture to it and stuff.
This thing is going to rip.
so like not not rip literally it's going to rip in the shop and online from for that so comfortable
it's going to fall apart all right guys it's time it's time 58 minutes tc do you want to lead it
do you know do you want to you know what are we what are we doing here what do we what do we do with
this yeah do we want to attack the full week or do we want to say today i mean granted like i watched
I watched him side by side.
I watched the world feed and then I watched NBC.
Oh, I thought we were doing Hamsterdain.
No, you thought you're avoiding this?
Wow.
Come on.
Oh, yeah.
No, Sally, he was the only guy to shoot in the 60s all four rounds this week.
He birdied 18, just like, he birdied 17 and 18, just like Foxy did.
As soon as he's out of it.
They, you know, the people, the people made their voices heard, okay?
And I thought, no, I think.
Dege, feel free to pop in here at any point.
Feel free to save me, Dege, announce your truth.
No, but I think if I had to dial it down to anything,
when he went long on nine today, I was bummed.
That was, you know, back in Neil's territory back there on nine.
Neil was kind of presaging a lot of, you know,
volatile spots on the course between five and nine.
And then, you know, so he bogeys nine, made a good one to make bogey there.
And then, again, just really conservative off the T on 10 and 11.
And I feel like left himself really far back.
And that's just where, like, you know, all the air went out of the balloon.
Three bogeys in a row there.
He had the big putt on one.
It just felt a little bit like fools gold at first.
And he played really well in the front.
I mean, he was three under through eight.
Um, yeah, overall, man, it was like, like, that's the most frustrating part about it.
Minus seven, three shots out of the lead, um, played good, good golf, good, good, not great golf all week.
It was solid.
I think I was glad at how he battled, uh, when he didn't have it earlier in the week.
And, you know, I think the crowds helped him out all week.
And great scene coming up 18, um, you know, that, that NBC didn't show much of.
what the World Feed had and then, you know, nice embrace on 18 Green and after the fact and
Kiz and Hicks talked all over it. But, but yeah, it was just, it was a, I don't know, it was a cool
special week that could have been all time, I think. I'm disappointed. I do think that him shooting
in the 60s all four rounds and burying the last two holes should net me some sort of reprieve
or exemption that I can use into the future.
To pick him once more.
We'll consider that.
Especially with Foxy winning as well.
Yeah.
But DJ, do you have an announcement you'd like to make?
I have some questions I want to ask, T.C.,
because this was a unique week,
and I may be taking this in a direction that even I didn't expect.
But what exactly do we want T.C. to apologize for?
That's the question I want to throw out.
I don't even know if I know the answer to this.
He keeps picking Tommy to win.
I've heard Tommy's going to win this major for years.
Yeah.
so let's start there you take your entire reputation you sticked your entire reputation on him
winning i did burke and schenicoke and then you want a dog sam burns for not being a dog what i mean
i don't think i've ever called tommy a dog i don't even i've ever called him clutching
let's not stick to the absolutes as your lawyer tc let's not no absolute there anybody wants
to review listen am i happy he he he he basically
wiped one 220 off 10 t and left himself with you know 180 yards in and out of the out of the thick
stuff or you know am i happy that he he hit one 275 up the left on on 11 i just it's just not
i mean i watched like probably 60 of his holes this week and like i you know i was texting
with dj i'm like yeah like all right here's what's going to happen man like you can see it like
You have previously scheduled stuff where it's like, oh, yeah, like, there's a bad bogey coming up here on 11 or 12.
And it's just, I feel like he makes incremental progress.
But I also think it's interesting that, like, you know, he shot 63 there at Chinnacock.
Cam, Cam Young shoot 64 here, makes a bogey on 18.
Tommy misses the birdie putt on 18 at Chinatcock.
Cam's getting lauded.
Tommy's, Tommy's getting just
shit on.
Yeah, like 10 years later.
Because like, so like set.
No, I'm so in that moment.
In one of those calendar.
On that one.
Yeah.
No, in that moment, like in,
2018, you guys were shitting on him.
I don't think that's true.
T.C., here's what I would have you apologize for.
Prying Wolf to Randy's point.
To taking Tommy's name in vain,
to picking him too often in places
where he couldn't win.
I'm not mad at you this.
week. We were all rooting for him to win. I don't pick him at Augusta. I don't pick, like,
I'm not picking him willy-nilly at every single major here. I picked him at the two places of the last
10 that I thought his game fit really well for. After saying you wouldn't if he doesn't been
Port Rush. Port Rush to this game well too.
Just can't get it done. It's got a good game. So serious though here, serious. I think, and I'm not,
you know, I'm waiting into DJ like golf strategy territory.
but there did seem to be a very,
like Tommy seemed to be playing the course different than everybody else.
It's like laying back off the T.
And that would be the one thing that I would second guess,
especially as the week went on and where you're at on the leaderboard,
would I love to see him hit driver on 10 and 11,
like those holes where it's,
nine.
Yeah, nine.
It's like, man,
you're just putting yourself in a really tough spot here
with a mid to long iron when other guys are just forcing the issue a little bit
and it's paying off.
So I don't know why he's stuck with that.
No, I agree. Neil, we talked about this a lot, like Thursday and last night.
I mean, Sally even said he's too accurate.
So his misses go into these fairway bunkers.
They don't go into the deep rough.
That's the real problem.
Let me, let me give you a layup then here, TC, just a layup question.
You asked me to wait until after this open to answer this question.
Yes.
Is Tommy a bigger game hunter,
major championship game hunter than zander shawfley uh no the record would say would say no um
just i thank you i throw that on the the kicker along the bottom thank you i think you see where
did joe biden win the 2020 election exactly what i was going to say this feels like that's literally
what i said on the pGA championship preview pot uh who won the 2020 election when you refused to
answer that question just a few months ago but i am now happy satisfied
that we can move on and start healing as a country, honestly.
But it's a forward-looking index.
Well, Baha'all wasn't a major, and it wasn't.
Trun was, though.
Zander was wildly impressive at Trune.
And, yeah, I don't know.
I'll take, I think Tommy Nabs one of these, man.
I think he does.
T.C., where I walk away from this week is maybe he does, maybe it doesn't.
We have to believe that he's going to, is how I feel.
Yeah, that's the fun.
I'm just so with you in that I'm not.
I'm not going to...
I've long said I think he's going to win a major.
I am less confident.
I'll put my hand up.
I've always been on the other side of this.
Yeah, there's not much big game there that I've...
I mean, just calling balls and strikes.
There's not a...
We're not really that close to winning.
No.
Like, he's always there and he's not, but it's not like a shot or...
It's like...
But in solid, it's always in this awkward way
where it's like a backdoor at Shinneka.
Or it's never in the final group.
It's not a Sam Burns where it's like, man, this is this one's yours to lose.
And that's tough.
To what DJ is asking, though, like what wanting to.
Yeah, I think wanting him to win one.
He does it in this backfooted, awkward sort of way.
Like even when he's in contention or like it's, it's pretty seaty your pants stuff.
But that's what makes it even more invigorating.
Like it's, you just feel like the universe is conspired.
against you and Tom is conspiring against himself.
That's where I'm at.
I joined UTC picking him to win this week.
Romanticism.
I thought,
oh my gosh,
maybe the lads can can just carry this guy to victory.
What a day it would be.
And so I watch way more of him than I even usually watch
because I feel like usually what I see is the tap in on 18 for,
you know,
oh man,
he didn't quite have his time.
He's going to be back.
What a crowd favorite.
I watched a ton of his,
like how he actually plays golf.
and I walked away a bigger fan than I ever have.
He is the best.
And so do I think he's straight up choked a lot of these away?
Yes, for sure.
Is he also maybe the only player?
Rand, if you're going to eulogize Spieth on me
and say that he doesn't have a brain activity anymore,
then I just don't know who else I'm really riding for
on a week-to-week basis other than Tommy.
And Foxy.
And Foxy, but I don't know if the floodgates are going to open.
for Foxy necessarily.
Yeah.
And so I'm with you, TC and that like I will call a spade of spade here, but also if I,
I got to be full-throated, like, I need to believe that he's going to win one of these
at one point because otherwise I just don't have a lot of reason to watch on Sundays.
I felt so much watching this week.
I almost teared up as he's tearing up on 18.
He walks off.
He sees Frankie.
Ask him, are you okay?
You're okay?
You're doing all right?
I mean, it's just, you're okay.
It's awesome.
I feel like that's a bit hyperball.
there, Dej. You're struggling
for a reason to watch on Sunday.
I mean, we just had a great championship today.
And Flewwood wasn't. He's saying week to
week. Week to week. Yeah, yeah. I need
to have a center of gravity
in my like, who am I rooting for?
What am I rooting for?
And Steve has been that and he no longer has
that. He's in mourning right now.
Exactly.
Maybe I shouldn't be making any big life decisions right now.
You know, maybe I should let this
this speech news kind of
just simmer for a while.
DJ needs to know that nice guys don't always finish last.
For sure.
It's like it's a big bad world out there, son.
I'm just going to plant my flag.
Here's what I would say.
I would be willing to look like a clown for the next, however many majors.
Join the squad.
In the interest that like maybe one day it happens.
And TC, I'll be with you.
I'll be with you when, if and when it happens.
Meanwhile, Sally will be, you know, mealy mouth.
I believe them in the whole time.
I've always wanted this. I picked him last.
You talked me into picking him.
Was it Port Rush last year?
I picked him.
and he like shot the bed on that.
He did shoot the bed there.
I think it, I think it is,
he gets a lot of benefit of the doubt because he's so likable because we all root for him
because we all wanted to happen.
But to Randy's big macro thing, big macro take, big long running bit on a particular guy
that he's had in Ricky Fowler,
the head to head and the, Tommy's resume doesn't sniff Rickies at this point.
We have to call that at this point.
We have to.
But Ricky didn't make anybody feel anything.
That's part of it.
No.
No, Ricky was making a lot of people feel a lot of things.
I will not.
He's making a lot of people a lot of money.
A lot of marketing people.
I don't know.
There are a lot of guys wearing orange.
There are a lot of Ricky fans.
Yeah.
That's disingenuous to say that Ricky's not making people feel stuff.
He's not making people feel the way that Tommy makes people.
Walk through this, Sally.
I'm saying we do Rick, we say Ricky pejoratively and, and we don't about Tommy.
And I'm, one of these has to level up.
One of these has to level up.
There's no expected wins in any of this.
Ricky has, what, six PGA tour wins, including the players.
Tommy's got one.
Tommy's got, Ricky's even got two DP World Tour wins.
Tommy has eight of those.
P.D.E.
Those fields are not very strong.
As you can see, his weighted.
Total wins comes down to 6.3 versus 12.4 for Ricky.
Data golf points.
557 for Ricky, 454 for Tommy.
Ricky is two years older.
It's remarkably similar.
PJ Tour starts for Tommy Fleetwood 179.
PJ tour starts for Ricky Fowler, 383.
Like, get the fuck out of here with this take.
This is ridiculous.
This is ridiculous.
You think Tommy's going to win a bunch more on the PGA tour in the next 80s starts?
I think he can put together at.
At least as good of a campaign as Ricky has here.
I think this is,
we got a lot of PGA Tor wins we got to pick up.
All right,
Sali,
put it on your calendar for two years from now
when he's the same age as Ricky.
Okay.
And I don't want the weighted bullshit in there.
Like the,
I mean,
Tommy can only win against who he's teeing it up against.
Like the Dr.
Moonjal's Hero Cup or whatever,
the second Abu Dhabi or Dubai event.
And,
you know,
the Kazakhstan opens in there.
And he won that par three national open.
in England.
I don't think that stuff's being...
And you win at golf sixes or something, D.C.?
I don't think the National Open's being weighted properly.
That carries a lot of juice.
I mean, national opens are hot in the streets right now.
The Kazakhs.
Ricky's got an Asian tour win.
The Korea Open 2011.
It's a national open as well.
That's tough.
What do you want me to check on in two years?
I think some of this is Tommy is English.
And so he gets this like boost because the English are passionate golf fans.
If Tommy was American,
he would not be near as big a deal as he is, in my opinion.
But check it out, he's not American.
And he's like one of the most fun iron players in the world to watch, you know?
I'm curious with this Blackstone thing,
if he's going to start going up in these Danny DeVito jersey mics commercials.
Oh, they're doing an IPO.
I could change things.
I know.
I'm wondering if they're going to put him to work to make sure they, you know.
He keeps kind of towing about with.
with Sunday Red.
And I don't...
Tiger's tweeting about it.
That feels like writing on the wall there.
Yeah.
And I thought he was going to commit
months ago to that.
And he just hasn't.
So maybe he's just...
Maybe the dollars are going up,
you know,
and he's betting on himself here.
But either way...
I want to be clear that the Ricky comp is a good comp.
It's just,
I'm saying I don't think Ricky's like far and away past Tommy.
That's my stance.
I think Tommy's got a...
is not to Ricky's career achievement.
level one and just making the point that we've kind of you've got to play like the biggest tournament
one of any of these guys is not wrong about that I'm interested objectively Ricky's had a better
career than way better yeah what's way better you got to give us the case here Dege I'm yeah I'm not
seeing it I mean I rickies won what he won the players of course BDE awesome win peak of his
career and then it's like I'm trying to rattle him off rocket mortgage he won a Wells Fargo players
Deutsche Bank, Honda, Phoenix,
in the rocket.
I mean, Phoenix, Honda, and Wells Fargo
are big events.
Those are good quality PGA tour wins.
Like, they would call those signature wins at this point.
Not when he was playing,
but those are signature events.
And I'm not saying that I'm like,
oh, I'm riding for Ricky,
but like if I'm just, like Randy said,
call him balls and strikes,
like Tommy's got a lot of fucking work to do.
If you want me to keep going,
more top fives in majors than Tommy,
more runner-up finishes in major than Tommy more top tens in major championships than Tommy more top 25s.
He was also in late bloomer too.
Tommy didn't get on the scene.
You know, he was playing almost exclusively DP World Tour until.
That doesn't get you in major.
That doesn't give you a pass.
No, I know, but I'm just saying like, there's 200 more starts or whatever we're talking about with Ricky here.
Like, let's, I think Tommy's got a lot of really good golf ahead of him.
I don't know that anybody's like doubling down on the next five years for Ricky.
I agree with it.
I want to get high on the hopium as well.
Like I'm hoping Tommy does have a better career than Ricky.
But right now, I would say that it's like, yeah,
Ricky historically is a better golfer.
More starts, obviously.
But I would say like better to this point in his career as well.
Just to your point, DG, he's got 304 DP World Tour starts,
add that with his PGA tour starts.
and like the DP World Tour
quite clearly not nearly as strong of a tour
to the PGA tour and their win totals
are like the same here
right it's not like Ricky's got 200 more
career starts than Tommy Fleetwood does just he does
on the more competitive tour
he was in that other tour
I get it yes yes some of these
like you're Zinger I feel like you guys
I hear what you guys are saying
there were there were a lot of the top
10 guys in the world in Abu Dhabi
when he won there or whatever and like I think the
other thing too is like I would put his rider cup
record up in there too. I think
that's part of the
Ricky told him to pick the ball up dude
with who like come on
Randy that's where I struggle
a little bit with like the
it's silly you know like he's not a hunter
like yeah like he's there's
there's something going on with stroke play
individual championship events
he's been a fucking hunter in the rider
cup for what three or four
of them now so it's
like you know granted
that that's not going on his
great man dossier but should have gone to live if he wanted to play team golf he didn't he's he stuck
around just like team rose he stuck around because he's not been a good career decision
Tommy has feasted in team matches in the rider cup he is an excellent excellent record in
team matches in the rider cup that is undeniable it's all it's you right now that he
accidentally discounted the rider cup in this conversation oh no
got me there. I should, I should have thought of that.
Next time.
Let's move on. I just, to put a bow on it, a, DJ, welcome to the squad.
Thanks, man. Glad to have you. I may be having you make picks for me.
Because I'm not legally, legally allowed to.
He's going to launder picks.
Londering his picks.
Maybe accessory to the crime, Dege. Don't do this. Don't fall in with this crowd.
Will you actually adhere to it now?
that, you know, we put it.
Okay.
I won't pay it for the Masters.
No apology anywhere in here, Sully.
No, there wasn't going to be one.
And you know what?
Tommy finished T4.
He shot four rounds in the 60s.
He didn't get it across the line.
I also don't think he debased himself this week.
Like he,
that was not the baseline.
Your prediction was not,
he's not going to debase himself this week.
That's a win this week.
Who did you say debase them?
That's a good question.
Who did you base them?
themselves this week.
Well, yeah, I think we covered that already.
Rom was...
Tough season for Rom.
We called it at the beginning of year, Deeg.
Big, big spots of majors and
Riverboat Rummy didn't come up.
With the Royal Flesh.
No, he did not.
He did not. Yeah, man.
Another long winter for the Spaniard.
Long December coming up.
Johnny.
Reason to believe, man.
Him and Fleetwood.
Maybe this year's going to be better than the last, Neil.
I don't know.
It's tough year for Rom.
I will say Rom didn't debase himself.
Like, I thought for sure we were tracking towards a code of conduct, like,
two-stroke penalty or just removing him from the grounds.
It was really funny watching feature groups either day where it was like every time that he was going to get really mad or do something.
Like, nope, code of conduct.
It's working.
It's working.
Here comes the potter throw.
This is a new John Rom.
I mean, why, you got Bob just slamming his club everywhere.
He might have debased himself a little bit this week, T.C.
Bob sucks.
He got his interview afterwards was like, yeah, I'm going to keep doing it.
And he had some takes on the course, like, mixed in there.
He was like, you know, it's just really frustrating when you can miss by a mile out here
and not get punished.
And then if you're slightly offline, you get screwed.
Like, you know, just basically, like,
I don't think this is a good golf course was his overall message there.
Back on the ROM thing, I mean, it is, it's been three years now since he left for live.
He's played 11 major championships.
Only one top five finish in major championships in the three years since he's left for live.
He's got a T7, a T7, a T8 in there.
So four top tens in the last 11.
Oh, he's still a dude.
He's still like one of the best golfers in the world.
Like, I'm sorry, he is.
By what measure, though.
I just, this is, this is so stupid, man.
What are we talking about?
You're, you're shitting all over Tommy for getting, like, this is crazy.
Rama has just not showed up in the, in the biggest moments at all.
Of course he's not.
He's still one of the best golfers in the world.
Just hop on here every week.
And it's like, the only thing that matters is majors.
Can you step up in the biggest moments, boom, boom, boom.
And he just hasn't.
He's like, he has not.
hurdle. I completely and totally disagree, of course, with his strategy of I'm going to go play
on this, this other tour, the other other tour, a very not competitive tour, beat these fuckers
up, and then put massive amounts of pressure on myself in the biggest events and fuck them up.
Like, yeah, like he obviously deserves dinged for all of that. Like, he deserves all the
scrutiny he's getting, all the criticism. And like, it is a really shitty, like, a really,
heartbreaking is not the word. It's like a front.
frustrating thing as a golf fan to have watched one of the top talents in the game,
like squander an opportunity in the most competitive window he should have to be a very serious
player on the world stage.
So what?
He's just like,
for like in theory?
No,
he's,
it's like,
I don't know what to tell you.
He still like measures really well.
That's what's all.
That would be my,
hold on.
My question of that,
Sali,
is you,
I,
because I see the strokes gain chart of like, okay, over, you know,
two and a half, like, look at Rom over the last two years.
Like, he's, he's up there in that top.
10 years.
Like,
okay,
fair enough.
But I'm talking about the last three years.
I would love to get rid of the live strokes gain,
strokes gained data.
And just give me the,
his strokes gained in majors over the last three years.
I don't have time to like do that right now.
But that's the chart I want to see.
And that's where I would revoke dude status because it's like,
he hasn't been a dude.
He has not been a dude in the majors.
And like I totally get what you're saying,
Dej.
Like I do.
Like does the live golf count or does it not?
And I'm,
I'm usually like,
no,
it doesn't.
But like,
and this is the immeasurable part
that I'll get shit for it.
I don't care.
It's like,
again,
if they started this tournament again,
like,
do I think he's one of the five
most likely players
to win the tournament
for most likely?
I do.
Like,
I do.
I think he's,
I think he is approached.
He's all wrong.
I think he's not preparing
properly for them.
I do not think,
I think there's absolutely a factor
in live not preparing him as best as possible.
You're saying that doesn't matter.
Like,
like,
all right,
let's roll the balls back out this coming Thursday
and you're just going to wipe all that away.
and say that, yeah, is he one of the top five most likely guys to win?
Yeah, even though he hasn't done dick for the last three years.
Sure.
Yeah.
I'm recovering.
I was on this block for a long time, Sully,
and maybe I'll look very foolish if he goes and wins.
He finished running up in a major three majors ago, like two months ago.
Like he was an Aaron Rye freakish runaway from not winning the PGA championship.
Like, again.
You're right.
That's fair.
You are right about that.
It just is, I don't know.
No, you are kind of, I'm waiting for that guy to show up like very, very, very consistently that he has been in the past.
And it just seems like such a market change that the patience or the benefit of the doubt is kind of running out for me as a.
Completely fair. Completely fair. I would say, do I think like the next three, if live continues, I would, I would still venture his next three years of major championships would be much stronger than the last three years have been.
I would, I would expect that. And if not, you want me to set a reminder for three years from now to revisit that one?
I'm happy to.
You can have a full calendar.
And Claire, declare, I was wrong on that one.
He's too big of a talent.
There's just a...
He's a fucking nut job, though.
He is a complete nut job.
But like, I have too much respect for, like, his actual, like, floor as a talent level.
And the sustained success that he's had since, like, 2017, that almost no one else in the game is that.
Like, Zander has not been able to maintain it the same way John Rom has.
Patrick Cantley, most certainly not.
Justin Thomas reached that level for a little bit.
he was unable to. Don't have to revisit the Jordan Speed thing, of course.
None of those guys have been able to consistently beat people on the golf course the way that he has in the last eight years.
And I do not think this is like a permanent decline in his decay in his game would be my take on the matter.
Randy, where are you at on this?
It's an interesting conversation coming off to Tommy.
I mean, it's all based on past performance and our expectations about the players.
because I'm just looking at Rom.
He's got less miscuts in majors
over the last three years.
He's got a better, higher finish
the T2 this year.
He's got more top tens than Tommy.
And it's like, why are we talking
about Tommy being this like, oh, my God,
he's going to do it.
He's so good.
And then, Rom, it's like we're shitting on him.
It's just our starting points, right, with each guy.
I think that's fair.
Rom's not my cup of tea, but I would bet on him,
I would bet on him,
there's room to go.
That's a distressed asset.
I would buy low on John Rom.
I don't see Fleetwood going to some other level.
I don't think it's the same question.
Yeah, I don't think we're talking about like John Rom's like supposed
generational talent like a borderline generational talent.
Correct.
And that's what I'm saying.
Like we're not, Tommy's ahead of him in your data golf rankings right now.
Like it's John Rom's just not like he's just not putting it on paper.
He's just not doing it.
And he's making bad decisions.
than he's compounding those decisions.
I think it's more not really comparing Rom to Fleetwood
as it is like Rom to Scotty and Rom to Rory and...
Like who Rom should be.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's interesting convo.
Do you guys think ROM wins another major?
Yes.
Probably yes.
Yeah.
I think he wins multiple more majors.
I think he wins at least two more majors.
I just...
That's the frustrating part.
It's like I see everything.
that you're saying, I just, I think there's also something there where like he's definitely
psyching himself out in these things. That's it. That's it to me is like definitive. I think he's going
to win multiple majors. Like, that's a dude. I say that about a lot of dudes. I know you do. I know,
but like, I agree. Like, I feel that way. Like, do I think Cam Young is going to win multiple
majors? I would say that with less confidence and I think Cam's a dude as well. Like, do I think-
It's also easier to say about a guy that's already won a couple of majors too.
Yeah. But no, it's still.
still a it's a confounding thing man and it is very much a you go back to those convos we're having
in December of 2023 of like what's this going to do for your major record and like he deserves
every second of scrutiny anybody gives him i deserve shit for i can keep bringing it that's fine i'm
still just i'm a still believer in the talent even if the results are not matching it like i think the
talent like rory went through a period like this uh in his major championship career where he was just
shooting the bed when the expectations were bigger on him and he came out the other side and
won two green jackets of it and after it.
It's a very good comp, actually.
And it's similar period in his career as well, right?
I mean, that kind of turning 30 like that was right before he switched gears
and seemingly changes approach at the majors too.
So that's a good point.
Anything we need to revisit on the Bryson front after all that has happened this past week,
he kind of exited the premises, shot two over, finished at four under par,
finished tied for 14th, wasn't really.
involved in the proceedings.
Yeah, it's a day.
Yeah, tough day for Thess.
Not a lot of, not a lot of, not great at the matinee.
I don't have a lot kind of left in the notebook here.
I feel like we've covered a lot of this over the last couple days, certainly in a very fun live show on Friday night.
Good to see him avoid the slam.
You know, it was good to see him involved.
He played really good golf for a long time this week and hard to know what the, the weirdness of Friday
did for his his prospects for the tournament. But yeah, I don't know. I don't know what to take away
from his his year too. Talk about another person that just was had massive potential for the majors
this year with so many question marks about what what his literal career looks like going forward.
You know, I think this was a massive, a contract year of sorts and just pretty much spit the bit
in a lot of different ways. So I don't, I don't know.
just a confusing, confounding sort of six months, eight months for the big golfer, the former
big golfer.
I'll say this. I would give Bryson a ton of credit. I feel like every time they cut to him
today and all week, really gritty stuff, making a ton of bar putts, like showing, I don't know,
like it's showing some strategy, like playing, you know, playing good golf overall for the week.
it is more fun.
He's not for me,
but it's more fun when he's involved.
For sure.
You know,
it's like he's,
yeah, man,
he's a content factory.
So he's frustrated.
I don't know,
he's frustrating.
He's annoying.
He's performative.
We've talked about all that stuff.
But at the end of the day,
like when I see him make those 12 foot par putts over and over,
he's also gritty.
And I think he deserves credit for that.
And I think that shows,
with two U.S. Open wins as well.
It's still, it's wild to me.
Like I would say the general reception,
even after what happened Friday,
was mostly positive for Bryson.
I know there were some jeers out there,
but it is wild,
especially coming off the backs of watching what happened with Windham
at the U.S. Open of like,
Bryson's already committed some pretty strong sins
in golf in the past several years
and over the course of his career
and done plenty of things that make you not like him.
Then he at best inadvertently stomp's behind his ball, as Randy said, like an elephant on Friday.
And then when the rules officials, you know, assessed him a penalty, went out there, made a massive performative scene, you know, threatened not to play, spend an hour at the course delayed tea times, kind of worry comment on this yesterday of frustrating the whole field, feeling very performative.
And people go out and cheer for him.
It's just like, nothing fucking matters anymore, man.
I don't get it.
I don't.
I mean,
Bryson is who we thought he was for a long, long, long time.
And I get that he's got an entertaining YouTube channel.
And, you know, he smiles at the fans now.
And, like, Shane Ryan had a great piece of just, like,
talking about how he, like, literally truly believes
Bryson practices his stuff in a mirror.
And I completely agree with that.
And it, that's the performative stuff for me that I'm just like,
I don't know how people do get to the conclusion that they're a fan of this guy.
just on the surface.
It is electric.
Like I'm on the same way.
Like I want him involved in things because I want to see what's going to happen.
But I guess I'm just very still surprised at the public treatment he gets at,
even amongst the best fans in golf of like being saluted,
almost like cheered for what happened on Friday.
It was just like.
What are we?
I don't even really know if he was getting cheered or not or jeered or whatever because
we didn't really get a sense of of the moment either or of the scenes.
Right. I think the, I think next year is going to be fascinating for Bryson.
You've got, obviously, Augusta, he's kind of struggled there, but you've got, um, you got Frisco right in his backyard.
It's a home game for him. Uh, should actually suit him relatively well. I'll be curious to see how they do set up and rough there.
Then you've got Pebble Beach, which I have no idea how he attacks Pebble Beach.
And then you've got the old course, which would seem like,
R-66.
For real.
Yeah.
And, you know, and then possibly live going away.
And, I mean, it sounds like they're, they're in doubt for their team championship, uh, in August next month even.
So, uh, who knows.
I mean, we could be seeing him play in DP World Tour events.
We could be seeing him play the, the your golf tour, you know, you're a big, big YGT guy.
Might, might make some appearances at, at all kinds.
invitation.
Solly, I have a
to your point about the fans cheering him
when I've
at past events this year
or majors this year
when Bryson's come by, I think some of it
is the fact that Bryson interacts with the crowd
engages people.
Not even wins them over.
They just want, they love the response.
So there is like a,
it's like the circus coming to town.
It's like a little bit of like, oh, let's cheer
at the like the,
like the performer out there, you know,
because he's going to, like, there's a cause and effect to that.
So I don't know if it's like the, you know,
people are really rooting for him or if they're just like,
looking for the entertainment of it, of the response of it is a little bit of,
I don't know that, but I,
I think there's something with something there with that.
So the big golfer.
I would, I would tend to agree with that.
A couple things.
He's going to absolutely destroy Frisco.
He's going to have so many videos.
prepping out there. It's going to be sick.
One thing about Bryce and that I think always resonates with me is that, you know,
I think nature of this job, we spend a lot of time online.
That's just not the reflection of like the real world that's out there.
True.
And he is absolutely loved.
And I think because of what Neil said, he's, he's the showman.
And we have a case because we work golf and we spend so much time in live shows for majors
and everything.
And we stack all these things.
him and kind of create this rap sheet where normal people who enjoy golf don't give a fuck like
truly honestly they just see him out there as a person who's showing up who's laughing smiling
and giving thumbs up waving and that's who they they think and truly believe bryson is
breaded circuses baby yeah i think that yeah i think that's well said cody i mean i think the
circus analogy neal it's like i'm not really looking at the guys in the circus and then looking at
what podcast they're going on and what they said on this Instagram post and what they whereas I feel like
we are doing a lot of that stuff true and maybe that might create a clearer picture of what's going on
but it's it's definitely a more complicated relationship and then I think you just have yeah you just
have a lot of different people with a lot of different contexts all kind of talking about the same thing
and it tends to be quite a quite a stew that gets created yeah that just you know the rule the rules
violation is what we'll call it that happening and and that that that that that to me was just like again
with the british crowd i'm like all right well that's going to be a thing that flips things right and
sure enough it just doesn't doesn't never seem to doesn't never see even i mean the open is you know
you got what 75 000 people there each day 100 like it's not like we're talking to about like
the core of core golf fans this isn't the master's this isn't you know the u.s open this is this is this is
bigger too. So I think there's probably more core golf fans there, but they're in the midst
of a bunch of other people as well. Which I think creates like, again, a weird cocktail of
when something like what happens on number five on Friday happens when just by definition,
your fan base are people who are probably more passive about this or aren't following it as
closely or more I check in and then I check out or I watch on YouTube and then I check out.
when you have something like a really nuanced ruling
happen like it's just of course it's going to be like oh they're trying to
fuck us man it's us against them they don't like what we're about and they're trying to get
this guy out of here look at the break that scotty got they probably were all
it's just everything's a fucking conspiracy you know and it's like he's he's just a good
canvas for that and does he play into it for sure right i mean i think of course he plays
into it but it's i the the ball on that front just seems
find him like we said on Friday.
And he just seems to keep finding himself in those situations.
And it just kind of keeps upwardly spiraling, you know.
And I don't think it's going to end anytime soon, you know, especially if, if Live goes away
or if it doesn't or if he comes back to the tour or if he doesn't.
And it's just going to be ramped up to a million here over the next several months.
And then, and then, Rory coming in.
I don't care for, you know, it's nice to have a little true rivalry and golf heading
in the next year.
action in here, Neil.
Come on, pop, Roddy.
I hear it playing in the background.
Turn it up, PC.
Just like we use, we use the word Bryson as performative.
Rory also is performative.
Sure, for sure.
It's up to you on whether you view it as a pro or a con,
whether it's your guy or a negative thing.
Rory's doing the exact same thing.
It's also whether you view it as authentic or not.
You can be performative, but be authentic with like,
all right, this is what I truly believe
versus performing and putting on errors.
Bryson at Pebble to close this out,
T35 at the 19 U.S. Open.
He played in six AT&T, Pebble Beach Prohams.
Don't really matter, but only one miscut there.
He has a T2 and a T3.
So I think...
What was the last time you played there?
2021, T3.
It's also a notable that, yeah,
during COVID basically just freakishly turned into a different
person like golf-wide you know I mean like he completely transformed his his golf game
which is always just funny when you look at his career results it's like that guy in 2017 or
whatever's like how that was a different different guy totally yeah I would I don't know I would
have expected a colder response but you know I think if I'm if I may I do believe that brings
us to our shout to our friends at Yeti for presenting this week's coldest moment this was
easy decision for us. If you missed last night's live show, uh, we're bringing it back.
Yeah, you guys are perfect. Here's the clip, uh, of what happened. We were trying to do a giveaway,
uh, last night on the live show.
You to the no laying up pro shop here. I'm going to give away $100 in pro shop credit to, uh,
I hope this is like Joe Ciel or something.
Flores.
Joe Ciel.
Hey.
Joe Ceele.
Joe Ciel.
It's one word, dude.
How am I supposed to, how am I supposed to?
Your brain's not picking up patterns of like,
I missed Jose, sorry.
Joe Seal,
Joe Seal Berto Flores.
That works.
Straight up, that shit works.
Joe Seal,
Joseil Berto Flores, 3149.
Congratulations.
This could be an O's.
Gentlemen.
I still can't believe it.
Uh, funny story. I did get an email a couple days ago from a Joe from a Joe. Uh, I think that played into this. Uh, so shout out to Joe Seal out there. I don't know if he's watching the night. Uh, Joe Seal Berto full name, please. I hope he's in the comments. Yeah, he deserves another, another gift. I mean, that was a long, long ass YouTube handle. Joe Seal Berto Flores. Jose. Jose. A lot of letters in there. Jose, Berto Flores. When we, when we cut though, the best thing about it was like,
So he's like, yeah, and you don't even really read the names.
It's just, well, now, Leroy Jenkins.
Because you brought up NLU Pro Shop, $100.
I felt like, you know, the czar, like, okay, you know, let me present.
Let me take this one, guys.
People, you know, they're expected to hear from the czar himself.
Like, I felt like I owed Joe Seal that, that honor.
Well, in honor of Joe Seal, of course, and thank you to Yeti.
You can shop their complete product line at Yeti.com.
appreciate everything they do to support us in their content uh i wonder if we're going to have a joe seal
moment today well cody our guy yesterday that was he was calling us pussies or something like that

J.M. Carver.
J. M. Kabar.
I'm going to do one more.
Anyway, yes, T.C. he did reply back.
He was not calling us that.
He was talking to somebody else in the chat.
Did Joe Steele reach out?
Of course.
All right, good.
Dusty Pasca, 7974.
Email Cody at no laying up.com.
Dust. Epasca.
It's Russian.
Dust. E. Pascar.
Dust.
Yipaska.
Siberian.
Randy, you got some T's and D's.
You got some thrills and delights for us, my guy?
Yeah, I just got a couple of them.
Get the shows, Randy. Come on.
Yeah.
Why don't we start here?
Guys, there was no bigger fist pump
in this championship until
Ryan Fox on 18, then Casey Jarvis, fist pumping his birdie on 18.
What a thrill and delight that was.
Finishes at six under for the championship, tied for six.
He'll be back next year.
Just love a good fist pump and excitement from somebody that is not going to win it, you know.
I'm glad you said that, Randy.
Shout to him.
He had an awesome, awesome winter.
I watched a lot of him, you know, winning on the DP World Tour earlier this year
and like laddering up to success in the top 10 in a major.
and pathways are open, man.
You play good golf.
You're going to have opportunities,
and he took advantage of a great opportunity this week.
Salute you, Casey Jarvis.
Fedora five.
Forward looking index, man.
There you is.
A forward looking index, guys.
Now, Sally, I believe you called him one of those guys
that's just on a leaderboard every week.
You said it like it's derogatory.
He's one of those guys.
Yeah, one of the guys that's always up on the leaderboard.
That's one of the nicest things I could say about you.
The same guys, every week.
Same guys.
He's always won.
It was.
Casey Jarvis.
was was in the fedora five the week of march eighth so congrats to him there you go um
where should we go next i got a kid here's one just throw him to light homemade golf swings
of course ryan fox you guys touched on it i had that on my list the only thing i was going to say is
of course i i'm not sure spice golf game has any brain activity left but if i were to give him some advice
just do your own thing, man.
Quit trying to optimize.
Quit trying to build your swing to be something that it's not.
I would tell him to lean the other way.
Just go homemade.
Go what feels good.
It feels natural.
The three putt big was the three putt from like four feet or whatever that was was so uncomfortable to watch with all the just thoughts that seemed to be going on.
How do I pull the trigger?
Is my elbow in the right place?
It was a lot of projection for me.
but it looked wildly uncomfortable.
The exact opposite of Foxy, the guy that just won't.
Right, right.
Couldn't be, yes, exactly.
Just see ball, hitball.
I think that's what I think that's what Jordan needs to do.
Not covering New Ground here, but I was not on last night show.
I can love Rory's comments.
Give me more of that.
Give me guys speak in their mind.
That's the beauty of when guys talk to the media.
I just, you know, good, good on him for,
for saying it how it was.
I mean, that's a big from you, Mr. Big, you know.
I know.
A long time a hater.
That's probably the most fired up I've been for Rory in some time.
What else was on my lid?
What did Scotty say about the Rory's or about the Bryce and stuff?
It was not today.
Very, very succinct.
It wasn't very pointed.
it wasn't.
I want to say a lot of stuff, but I won't.
He said,
I don't.
He's like,
I played a lot of golf with Bryson from junior golf on,
and he's not a cheater.
He said he thought he was careless with how he stepped around his golf ball,
understands how that can be a penalty,
but feels like the,
that penalty is not enforced enough.
What I interpreted is like he'd like to see them tighten up on enforcement
on a week-to-week basis,
but also it's tough when certain guys have more cameras.
on them than others. You know, just kind of like ping ponging back and forth between,
man, like this should probably be called more. It happens more often. So I see how it's
penalty. And also it's unfair because like not everybody has a camera on them. And Bryson's not a
cheater. Yeah, it was a, uh, uh, things are complicated sort of sort of take, which I,
yeah, I understand, you know, not really expecting him to have a well thought out dissertation
about it afterwards. I think it is a complicated situation. Like, well, I was really stoked to hear
what he had to say and then it kind of like and I feel like he bought himself more time after deferring
on it on Saturday night. I was like, all right, cool. Let's see what Scottie has to say here. I wouldn't
I wouldn't be surprised if he does get a follow up to him, him having a, he's usually very, very good
in Wednesday, Tuesday press conferences when it's like, man, I'm not, I didn't just walk off
the golf course where I'm clearly trying to not lose it. That's fair. You know, I think he's really
good in the interview room and if he gets asked about it, I bet he'll have a good answer. That's well said.
Maybe this is a good segue.
I just get tickled that Comcast gives the American audience the sky feed through Peacock,
like a markedly better broadcast than the one that they are putting up on their national United States feed.
It's incredible to me.
So I use that if we made to bridge into Hampstam, but that was on my thrill and delightless.
as well.
Can I, before we get to Hampstead, I'm one positive.
I do want to shout out Foxy's caddy.
We didn't get this view in the NBC, like, live version, but when they showed the replays,
he, like, goes to his knees and just like the joy, like, it's like, I read that as just like a man
that just watched, like, that was like one of the best rounds of golf I've ever seen, like,
to be a part.
I don't know.
I just, in the background, you see his caddy, like, I can't believe he just did that,
you know, it's like pure.
joy and energy and emotion from, you know, watching his guy get it done.
That was awesome.
I was just, I was delighted to see the caddy's reaction.
Absolutely.
Just a couple quick golf shouts, the rest of the leaderboard kind of a little bit.
Yeah, let you go down a little bit.
It's you, I'm holding back from Hampstam anyways.
So, yeah, you can go down the leaderboard.
I'm trying to be calm with Hamsterdam, but I think Lucas Herbert,
shout out to him he was in the mix all week and and handled himself well and was you know t6 like really
successful week um so like a felt like a felt like a i didn't watch like every single shot of his but i mean
it felt pretty patient for a player that hasn't been in a ton of those spots you know he seemed
like he he didn't let it get off the rails you know and he kept battling when he clearly didn't
have his best stuff he was clearly nervous uh it was yeah that was it was commendable commendable finish
Siwu Kim got a taste of the of the of the of the cauldron today and went the other way
he looked like he did not want to be there last last three four holes he started
got it done for the team though we were thrilled with with with the results but yeah do we
have results we can skip that I don't think I don't think we need to go through
what happened in the easy office pools
It is good.
The only thing I'll say with Siwa Kim is like it's good when the eye matches the or the brain matches the brain, maybe I would say, where it's like, all right, man, like this guy's never done, which again is what makes Foxy so fucking awesome today.
But it's like, Sebo Kim has just been a completely different player when he shows up at the majors.
Like, is he really going to hold it together for 72 holes and you get to like 63 holes?
And it's like, no, he's not.
It's a moment got straight up too big.
And he, but I hope he comes back and does it a bunch more because he's,
He's very fun to watch.
Adam Scott, T9.
I kind of forgot he was playing this week.
Totally.
That's just coming across my death.
Russell Henley, good day.
He gave a couple back coming in,
but he was really glad to have him on my squad this week.
And he was horse for course, I think.
Rasmus, near guard Peterson,
first career appearance at the Open Championship, T9.
Ludwig, I don't really, I mean, I feel like we've unplugged him.
We've plugged him. We've plugged him back in. He's booting back up.
We'll see what he does. He'll probably win the FedEx Cup or something.
Like, it's just, it seems like he's getting over the mental block with the putter.
But yeah, just it feels like we're going to get too far down the line.
And he's, and he hasn't won one of these.
And we're going to look back and be like, holy shit, like, this guy wasted the first six years of his career kind of thing.
So, uh, Lovig, we got to get it in gear, big guy.
Next year's a big year.
Is he just like a mega high floor, somewhat low ceiling?
Like I think when he came out, we like thought he was a massive high ceiling guy.
Are we limiting the ceiling at this point with Ludwig?
I don't think so.
I just don't think he's put it all together yet.
I think he's like, just like raw and weird ways.
Like he, I think he was so good as a ball striker that he didn't even have to really be a great putter
or be a great chipper.
I think his chipping's gotten better.
But I think he's just, like,
he's just got to mature and evolve as a golfer.
I think he,
I felt like he was,
and then he's kind of backslid this year.
You could see him going to Cam Young route, though,
you know, with the putting, you know,
it's like, it could click with the putter
and just, you know, that could be it.
The more we talk about these guys, too,
the more sad I get that Will's Allotaurus
is just constantly on the shelf.
I feel like he should be right in the mix
with these guys.
Brian Gerard,
kind of a, you know,
birdie-less,
birdie-free,
30-free, 16 pars, two bogeys,
just didn't really get it in gear.
Corey Connors, T-14,
just the most uncompetitive
T-14, I think I've ever seen.
Sung-Jay kind of slunked away from it
after being in the hunt,
early tournament,
Hedekhi, Bryson,
Ricky Goderah, Bud Colley,
Marco Pench.
Good to see him playing well.
He was staying at home this week.
He was pretty unhappy about the Bryson stuff.
He took to social media to hit out at Bryson.
Lauren,
Zolley, what's your take there?
T-18?
I'm trying to do the math of it.
If he's got enough points to go to Vizby in August
and have his kid ruin that green all over again
with the Tonka truck.
Flashy wide boy mobbed up.
TC, I don't know if there's a big payoff for this next one,
but again, I famously put a calendar invite five years ago on the Sunday recap pod.
LBC, right?
This is quote, this was set for Sunday, July 19th, 2020,
back in July of 2021 to revisit TC predicting Moracawa wins eight majors
after he won at Royal St. George in 2021.
Oh, man, T.C., this is tough.
How old is he's 29?
He turns 30
Before the next major
He is a baby
He's little baby Colin though
For a reason I think he's he's been hurt
It sounds like it seems like his golf's gotten better this year
Once he got injured
Which is kind of crazy
Yeah I don't know what to do
I don't think he's gonna win eight Sallie
I think he's probably got one or two more in him though
I couldn't be a good week for it
Couldn't tell if TC was going to try to really hit the shot there
if he saw
if he saw a whole
the trees that I was not seeing
but
yeah just take it
on playable there TSA
yeah
yeah
exactly
I know I've been
actually got TIO
yeah I would
I would like to distance
myself from this one
just I know we've been
we've been long step
for a lot of this pod
but I just I'm not here with you
yeah
uh right tan
Dan Brown
Zander all T18
Victor Perez was the low clique
he was T28
with Cantlay Kepka
All right
Was he the only clique in the field?
Had to be, right?
We got
Marangco was in the field.
Low clique to only clique.
Yeah, that's good.
That's a good change up.
I think he had to be.
Super.
We got to talk Subaru real quick.
Super.
Yeah, hand up.
You guys got men Gerard, Subaru.
He got caught tampering with evidence today.
And checking stuff out of
Evidence. Internal investigation. That'll be kind.
Guys, I do have to report.
T-46 for P.
I have to report our,
are this or that,
head-to-heads that we did on Wednesday's show?
All-time, epically bad performance by the crew.
Just extremely, extremely bad.
T.C. was the best at 9 and 10.
9 wins to 10 losses.
DJ went 8, 8 for 19, 8 and 11.
I went six for 19, six and 13.
Randy went five and 14 in our head to head.
Jesus.
Really, really, really tough.
I tried to do that.
Really tough.
It's extremely tough.
Yeah.
How about that?
Yeah.
Scotty versus Rory.
Only Randy hit on that one with Scotty.
Only DJ hit Alex Fitzpatrick versus Matt Fitzpatrick.
We all had Tommy against Sam Burns.
That didn't work out very well.
All had speed against JT.
That didn't work out very well.
We all, yeah.
Yeah, it's not good.
Anyways.
We beat on.
Yeah.
Yeah, Hamsterdam.
I mean, I feel like I've made my voice known on X, the Everything app where everything's
happening.
Kisner's replying to people mid-broadcast.
I didn't quite understand the vitriol.
Like his, like his Bryson call or his Bryson minus 10,
Sam Burns call, like I didn't think that was out of bounds or anything like that.
I thought he just could have said it in a more concise or clear way.
But like all day, it was just, there's just no,
there's never any analysis from anybody.
It's just telling us what we're seeing on the screen,
when we are seeing something on the screen.
I mean, Sally, you were logging the commercials for a while there.
Yeah, there was a time period there where they went,
I can get the final.
And not time period.
So it was like the last six holes.
Yeah, like the most important part of the tournament.
They took, I believe, six commercial breaks in a 39-minute span
in like the most crucial stretch of the tournament.
It was, I mean, look, it's, it's, it's, we've done this a million times.
I don't know how many more times we can do it.
So like, let the record speak for itself throughout a pool up, a poll on the everything app.
And sure, the crowd on the everything app is a little angsty and and feisty and self, you know, this is self-selecting in some way.
A total of 5,595 people voted on this.
And 93.4% of people said the NBC broadcast.
was unsatisfactory.
So you can think we're wrong NBC
or you can think, you know,
or if you're a listener that thinks we're wrong
on the broadcast, that's fine.
But like,
what else could I have asked
and gotten 93% of people
to vote a certain way?
Like, I honestly don't know.
Like, I think people would troll the other way
no matter what I asked.
That's true.
Did Ryan Fox win the tournament?
I bet like 10% of people would vote no,
just for fun on there.
And 93.4% of people.
Bryce and fans.
Yeah, exactly.
Voted unsatisfactory for the NBC product there.
So like that, I almost just want to let it speak for itself on that.
It is impossible to watch.
It's dated.
It needs blown up and changed.
Can I just, the only thing I'll add, because we've been over this a million times, too many voices.
The answer is it needs to be simplified.
Like my, my biggest frustration is that it's.
just all clutter, which is all controllable.
You know, it's like I could put up with the commercials.
If it was just let the golf go, too many voices, just trying to do too much and get too many,
you know, commercials in.
It's just, it's just like, so if it, if it was like, man, you guys really got to up your
camera angles and you got to, there's not enough tech involved.
If it was that kind of thing.
Even that, though, Neil.
Because the answer is like, you guys don't know how hard this is to broadcast.
I'm like, my point is you're making.
it harder. The issue
I have is that you are over-complicating
what's already a very hard thing to do.
We're watching. So Scott Van Pelt had a tweet about
just golf Twitter at large and how it's just a,
you know, it's crazy and nobody's ever satisfied
with anything. But I think everybody's united and like,
hey, this isn't good. This isn't the answer.
Like we're not saying that we know how to
broadcast or produce a big time
golf tournament. But
you are literally,
literally giving us the other option of like there's there's like sky and the world feed is doing it
with less resources and they're doing it at a far higher level and I get that they have less clutter
but I think we're at the point now with USGA and the RNA where I think for the good of the game
like be okay with maybe taking less money from a competitor and feeling like you're you're putting
golf in the best foot forward because I think you're turning off an entire generation totally
of potential fans.
And I think, like, that's a short-sided decision that is, that is maybe hurting the long
run of the game.
And I would say the same thing to the tour as well.
It's, I mean, they're not even doing the little things, right?
Or, like, the baseline easiest stuff, right?
They had American flags next to all sorts of guys, like Lucas Herbert's name yesterday.
They had Cameron Young on the, on the leaderboard twice.
They're missing all sorts of shots.
It's, I get that they have more than the commercial.
part.
Totally.
You know what I mean?
No,
but it's just like details.
It's like broken windows stuff that's just like, like they're,
the house just isn't in order.
Like somebody tweeted today,
they're like,
yeah,
like they're,
they're televising this like they're,
they're under a constant cyber attack.
That's what it feels like.
And then,
I mean,
Deeds,
to your point about like,
Tariko,
like just make it like Tariko and one or two other guys in booths and then a
bunch of guys out on the ground.
To your point,
Neil,
simplify it. Like it's, it's, and then it, I don't know, it's, it's just, like, the camera angles are bad.
I don't think Tommy Roy, like, the game has passed him by. Like, seeing the camera angle that they
had for Foxy's final putt and the camera angle that the World Feed had, it's like staring
straight down from the top of the clubhouse with no, with no context, no reaction, no fans at all,
versus the World Feed one is showing, you know, half the grandstand and all that. I had a friend come in
from Australia who he texted me today. He said, man, like, I've been here for three days now.
Now I see what you guys are talking about with NBC. Like, this is a, this is horrendous effort.
So it's just frustrating, man. Yeah, I don't, I don't have anything to add. I agree. The, uh, the, the,
the thing I'll say is I made the very conscious decision to switch yesterday. I talked about this,
but when, when they're having, they're frothing everybody up for Bryson to get to the first tea,
on Saturday.
Who knows, is he going to play?
Is he not going to play?
Even if you're a casual fan, it's like,
that's got to be the number one story.
And when you're doing that in playing through,
it's just like,
blame it on contracts,
blame it on companies,
blame it on the R&A,
blame it on the direction,
blame it on whatever.
I just am not going to be involved.
If there's an option to watch a different broadcast,
that's where I'm going to be.
And so I watch Sky and the World Feed,
which is,
I feel sheepish saying,
is available through the media site if you're credentialed.
So it's like,
we had access to watch that.
But it almost
was a it was like proof by omission or like proof by removing yourself from the situation.
I was like, I think that's one of my favorite opens I've ever watched today. And I'm like,
fuck, is that because I watched it on like really good TV or is that because is the open always like
this? And I just don't, we don't ever get to watch it like this. It just was, it threw me in this weird
mindset of, you know, it was almost like disconcerning how fun it was to watch golf on TV.
Like, I, I knew it, man. I knew it's fun.
watch this and once you yeah once you get rid of all that clutter it's just you're kind of left with
great players playing great golf courses and that's that's kind of all you need i would i would say like
like if you're the rna or the usGA or the pGA tour put them on concurrently on two two screens
in a conference room and sit there and watch five or six hours you can't set your phone yeah and you
got to just just see but like in a compliment for the world feed and featured groups and sky like it's
brilliant. The commentary is brilliant. The open radio is brilliant. The, the color and wit and
just description that they use. It's, it's like everything I love about the open. And so my thing is
like, why doesn't NBC just save the fucking money and just use the world feed?
Dude, that's where I'm like, everybody's always yelling at us. This is so hard. It's so expensive.
You have no idea. I'm like, dude, I'm just like, what is the world feed? I can't even describe.
Like, who's paying? I don't understand how the finances of the world feed.
work, but I'm watching, like, I'm literally just watching them do all of these things.
The whole thing is the commercial load squeezes all of this out.
And like, I, again, this is where we all just kind of throw up our hands at each other.
Like, I get, you paid massive fees and you got to make it back through commercials.
And what you're just not getting about this, everyone that wants to argue, you know,
from the, from the networks wants to argue, we don't care who to blame in this.
This just sucks.
Like this, it, six commercial breaks in 39.
minutes during the most consequential stretch of it.
Like, you don't understand those are the most valuable commercial?
No, I do understand those are the most valuable commercials.
You don't understand to C.C's point, you are, you are turning off an entire generation.
I mean, 93.5% of people said that was a completely unsatisfactory effort.
Like, if you don't take that and change things, again, that's where I don't even want
to finish the sentence.
Then I would finish it by saying, then you obviously don't care.
But like, that's obvious at this point.
Like, they just don't.
And it's not going to change.
until I don't know what
would cause it to change. I really don't.
I don't know.
I would be more worked up if we weren't able,
didn't have the blessing of being able to watch
other options this week because it,
like it's impossible
when you were breaking every five or six minutes
or eight minutes, whatever it is,
to get into any kind of flow watching a sport.
It's just not possible.
What if I,
all right,
what if it's actually a glowing brain false flag thing
to just get everybody to subscribe to Peacock?
I've said for years
I'll pay for this
I'll pay for an option to not
have to sit through all these commercials
I really I fucking love golf
I do
yeah God this is where
this turns into a 40 minute conversation
but this is where it's
there's just not enough of those people
Solly and this is where I think golf gets really
interesting over the next 10 years
as far as how do you
you allow the casual
or the very core fans
the people who are like I'll be there on CBS
every single
Sunday at 4 p.m. I don't care what tournament it is. How do you allow them to be critical mass
enough to support an entire TV deal while also having all of these realities of we're going to break
every five minutes? We're going to just kind of take advantage of the system that we have,
but also they're not being enough people to sustain a paid product. It's just, I don't know.
It's going to be very weird. And then you throw in inflated purses and then you throw in,
we can't go backwards and then you throw in rival tours and then you throw in all and
it's where it's like all right well it's probably good for the two hour and six minute mark
but that's fine where they're like the pGA tours in that scenario but i would argue all right
what's the mission or the intent of these governing bodies pga of america included is to be stewards
of golf to be stewards of the game bring it forward that's not at all costs right like like i just don't
know why they need, I don't know, like, I know they're floating their entire budget off of this,
but at some point, like, at what cost, right? Like, if you're turning rabid golf fans away from
your own, your own thing, it's, it's, it's just, it's like, it's like you're choking yourself off.
It, it sucks. So, I just go back to the, you bring, Mike Torrico is a total pro. You bring them
all the way over there, and then you don't use them.
He's a spotter.
I just don't, I've never, like, I would, I would like one of the executives to explain that to me.
He's like, is that his choice?
I can't think it's his choice because he's just hanging out.
He's on at the beginning and he's there at the end.
But, and then you have like three other crews.
I'm like, why don't you do it?
Yeah, and CBS isn't perfect, but they're, they've gotten a hell of a lot better.
But it clears the bar.
Like, I don't feel like we need to dedicate 10 minutes.
We're not wondering whether they care or not.
Yeah, I don't dedicate 10 minutes of, like, nitpicking.
their mistakes apart because it's like it just feels like the efforts there and it feels like they
clear that it's never going to be perfect again producing you know common thing we we say with all
these producing a sport with 18 different stages and 70 balls in play is inherently extremely hard
and it just is like man the commercialization of this sport has just gotten out of control
and it is suffocating the biggest golf events and it's kind of like all we you know it's the events
that have supposedly gotten bigger and bigger with the pj tour and live separation and and
And as we get into a new era and whatever that looks like,
it's just all got to change.
I know this is PGA tour conversation versus USGA and RNA is a different thing.
But man,
just not it.
It's not it.
And Michael Kim's commenting on this.
Like this is breaking contain.
Like the players are,
players are texting me about it.
Like,
you know,
I have friends of mine from high school texting me about this.
How do you guys watch this every week?
Like it is broken contain outside of just us bitchy golf Twitter folks.
Like that's not what this is.
anymore. It's a massive problem.
But the role that I usually
play here, we're not
just pointing things out. What I would say is
TC had a great idea. I also tweeted
this to Josh Carpenter. NBC
is off of the golf. So the entirety
of the FedEx Cup playoffs will be carried by
NBC. CBS.
CBS, excuse me. NBC will be
back next for the President's
Cup. I said, I know
that they care. Everybody at NBC,
please sit down in a conference
room, do an AAR, and
have three screens and have the product that they put up, the World Feed with Andrew Carter
and the Sky Feed and point out and say, okay, if people are saying this is what we like,
there has to be a middle ground there. Playing through has become a crutch. But playing through
is also supposed to be an advancement to where you could still see shots, but it's hard when
you're comparing it to Sky and the World Feed where like pivotal shots are going. You have to be
able to pull yourself back out a commercial to show them. And we gave glowing reviews here,
of course, for having Sky on Peacock. Please don't take that away. Please, please don't take that way.
That's going to be, that's going to be what happens. I didn't even realize we had Sky.
We got to get rid of that. As soon as you guys started, Brian Roberts, praising it, finds out about
that. That is what's going to happen. And that would suck really, really bad. We mentioned open radio by
far my favorite thing about the open every year major shoutouts i know uh marcus sue uh the great sophie walker
everybody else there gave us uh a lot of run big unfortunately we've been going over for the aig women's
open the last couple of years no radio this year for the women so uh maybe next year we'll see what
happens but i i loved it plenty of time cutting grass there's there's ample opportunities to get
your open uh coverage it just stinks that like the worst option is the one
one that were served here in america can i think one more idea for the rna make the world feed available
for a 10 dollar fee for the week like let's put that on peacock it never breaks they do not have
commercials it's just golf the whole time well i think that's the thing like they're they're sending
that and then other countries get you know they'll they'll put their announcers on it or like
but that's the thing like these cameras NBC uses some of the world feed cameras like it's and and
And yet even the color grading and saturation is totally out of whack.
It's like everything.
They get everything wrong.
Zero taste.
And that's legitimately, it's like, I could nitpick the commentary too, but it's not even.
Oh.
We could easily do that, but it's just like, dude, yeah, it doesn't.
It's unprepared.
It's not it.
Final standings from the easy office pool.
Neil won the pool this week.
$2.5 million.
He didn't win.
Dedicating my win to Joe Seale.
His players got $2.5 million.
My whole team. Behind the scenes.
Cameron Young was a big carry there.
Seawu Kim as well.
Excellent draft from Neil.
I got second just shy of
$1.4 million.
Randy, big Sunday from Scotty's favorite
player got him almost a million bucks.
TC took
500. He mentioned
Foxy.
He mentioned Foxy before
taking Cameron Smith with his last pick.
I was poking around the right waters.
Just the wrong side of...
With Cody drafting for him,
unfortunately, we'll be fifth, 310.
Fortunately, he was canceled.
Cody, what do you think?
You think we're doing the Get Ready With Me video
or watching the Hawk on Netflix?
You're doing the Get Ready with Me video.
For sure.
Neil fucked up his Get Ready With Me video.
You got to put the Hydro layer online.
I have my own process.
It's not the process, okay?
I went early with the Hydro layer.
You're laying all these anti-aging over the top of the moisturizer.
You just don't, that's not what you did.
You weren't committed to the bit.
Like you were like very clearly paying off a bet.
The bit was going to be like, I need you to like, get ready with me.
Is I get ready for the lie?
I need you to play with it.
And you broke the fourth wall.
I don't care.
I did it.
I did it my way, just like Sinatra.
It disappointed.
Did it my way.
Disappointed.
Anything else before we wrap?
Congrats to Foxy.
That was very, very.
very memorable major championship
Sunday. It does
make me feel better.
It's such a hard afternoon, man.
I know. Today was like as good
as a day as you could possibly dream up
following yesterday, which is just
so shitty, but I'm pumped at
Foxy won.
Because it seems like
a fucking awesome dude.
I think Foxy might have earned great
man status today.
You guys hand that out to anybody
that basically isn't America.
and so he was already probably a great man but i think
i think ryan fox open champion works really well like that
i'm still struggling with aaron rye pGA champion like that just still feels weird to me
but ryan fox open champion does not feel weird at all like that feels uh that feels like
that feels like a thing i'm very very stoked for him so it like it turns out it was coming
home it was just the the wannamaker instead of the clear a jug yeah it's true exactly so
all right that's going to do it special
shout out, of course, to our friends at Titleist, the dog that is barking as well.
High noon, Holderness and Born and Yeti, and of course, Joe Seale.
Thank you, everyone who tuned in this week.

Thank you, everyone, that tunes in during major weeks.
It always feels weird to end them in July.
It feels like there should be other men's major coming up very soon.
We'll, of course have the AIG women's open to wrap up major season,
but it has gone very, very, very quickly.
But thank you, everyone that tunes in live,
provides a lot of comments in the chat.
watches on YouTube or wherever you watch here to listen to it. We greatly, greatly, greatly
appreciate it. So thank you to Cody, running the ones and twos. Matt, running our social.
We'll see you back here next week for a slightly less anticipated 3M recap. And thanks for
tuned in. Cheers. Oh, to do the rules podcast Tuesday. We've got some rules stuff coming. That's
going to be a really good one. You're going to like that one. That was recorded last week or two weeks ago.
It was recorded prior to all of the Bryson stuff. Oh, we still touch on a lot of that stuff.
We do not with the most recent examples.
Yeah, but it's going to be a good lesson, I think.
So anyways,
Cheers.
