Starting point is 00:00:00 Be the right club today. Johnny, that's better than most. How about him? That is better than most. Better than most. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Laying Up live show presented as always by our friends. That title of Sully here here with the St.
Starting point is 00:00:46 Lunatics, the boys that spent the week in St. Louis. T.C., you survived. You made it. How was the week? I thrive, Soli. I thrived. It was a little humid.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Great people. We'll get into it. St. Louis, thank you. Great experience. Neil Ikorito Schuster is here. Hello, Neil. How are you?
Starting point is 00:01:05 Greetings, Sali. Great week. First time in St. Louis. Had a blast. And good finish today. You know, went out and got it,
Starting point is 00:01:12 baby. The golf was good. The action was good. Yeah. I mean, it was, Windham, you know,
Starting point is 00:01:18 let them back in, made it an interesting back nine. It was great. We got to talk BMW championship. Dub's dub. A bit of a surprise, if I may say from Belle Reeve. I was not expecting a ton and I was quite entertained. We're going to talk about that.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Got Rory in the mix as well. We're going to hear about your guys on-site experience. I think we have a pro hem story we've got to get to at some point here. Some live news as well. Perhaps the final live event in history is close to wrapping up right now. I can't keep track because the shotgun start. Scott Jameson wins the nexus championship on the DP World Tour. We had Utah Segura wins the Advent Health Championship.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Miu Yamashita is leading the Canadian Open as we speak. Maria McBride, not to be confused, Martina McBride wins the U.S. Senior Women's Open. Sorry, that was my first thought as well. Meeting Onica by two shots. The Noling a podcast brought to by Titleist, the number one ball in golf, number one ball in the PGA tour trusted by 71% of players this season
Starting point is 00:02:18 that includes Wyndham Clark, taking home his sixth PGA tour title today at the BMW Championship, gaming his ProVU-1x golf ball. Wyndham has been a ProV1X player for as long as he can remember. One of the biggest reasons why is he is the higher full swing
Starting point is 00:02:33 spin. It's the higher full swing spin of the X. He's not a high spin player in the long game. So the added spin from the ProV1X gets his numbers into an optimal window provides that perfect amount of stopping power into the greens for his game. We hear toward players say it all the time. It's the only piece of
Starting point is 00:02:49 equipment we use on every shot. And if you're not playing the right golf ball for your game, it's costing you strokes go to tidalus.com to learn more find out what golf ball best fits your game a little play by play here from sunday windham took a five shot lead into the final round over rory and patrick can't lay uh went a boge at the opening hole rory birdie did immediately made the day interesting clark went out in a plus two 37 gary woodland got within one then absolutely cold topped one off the ninth tee uh made a double bogey it was sick i thought the tracer malfunctioned.
Starting point is 00:03:24 And then can't lay was kind of all over the place. He made five birdies in his first 10 holes, but also made three bogeys. Got within one with a birdie on the 10th hole. Wyndham bogey the 10th to drop him into a tie with can't lay, but can't even dumped it in the water on 11 at the same time. Roy birdies 11 to tie Wyndham. They both had a bunch of pars until Wyndham birdied 16 to go up by one.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Roy made a bad bogey on 17. Windham birdied it. That was night night. Wyndham tax on another birdie on 18 to win it by three. Wyndham Clark player the year are we doing this three wins and a major that was such a good shot on 18 out of that rough they're like yeah this is a good shot if he can advance this 40 50 yards and gets it to you know up there to 20 feet and drains the pot it was you know props he played some excellent excellent golf um well it's funny he said I he didn't though he just but he he hung around like and he I think they had to kind of hit the cough button a couple times. I think on like the T shot on 12, 13. He missed, you know, that's just all of a sudden you hear like the airplanes
Starting point is 00:04:31 because I think he's fussing at himself. But he hung around and he buries the last three. And that fist pump he put out on 16. It was kind of like, oh, damn, man. It's a good moment. Good moment. And Rory missing that, that putt on 16 and then making a mess on 17. It was a, yeah, I was kind of hoping for a total showdown all the way down the
Starting point is 00:04:50 stretch and then when to making that put on 17 was cold-blooded. So I would say, and test us out on you, Sally, different type of win for dub here. Like it feels like he steered it into the house with both U.S. open winds with like, oh, man, you know, like kind of, kind of, you know, big right miss at LACC. And then, you know, at Shini, it wasn't, you know, it wasn't decisive. But he bought himself enough, enough rope. Today, it's like to go make three birdies to finish on, on three like big boy golf holes. that was a statement from from wind him i was very impressed by that it i mean bell reeve we're going
Starting point is 00:05:27 to talk about it it made you hit some golf shots man and he was a little off on the early part he paid the prices uh you know hit the balls balls in some awkward spots and what's that i said he paid the price he paid some consequences yeah and you know it um i'm we i don't know if we need to go to this right now. But I did find it interesting that he hits in the right rough on 14 and takes a long time to play the shot. Trevor Ellman jumps in and says this is the third club he's pulled, you know, and placing it behind the, I checked the wording on this because I checked the wording of the USGA rule on this as well, you know, putting the club behind third time. He's done it. And Frank Nopoulogh then says, well, the lie might be better, which was a pretty
Starting point is 00:06:15 darn direct comment as that was happening. And honestly, honestly, I thought, like, I honestly thought that was going to get a review or a follow-up or a comment because the announcers had said it or brought in, bringing some announcers from Pantavidra to address it because if it got the attention of the announcers to mention it, it was, I was like, oh, gosh, if we head towards like a rules, a Wyndham rules controversy at the end and they try to crown Rory. This might get really, really, really, really ugly here. But I don't know, he won it by three. And he's not the only offender of that. And there's a ton of gray area around that rule anyways. But that was, one of the more significant moments of the afternoon. Not all it tells you something that those guys are pointing it out, though, right? Yeah. Uh, God, it would have been sick if they tagged him for that and then can't lay wins, not Rory. Can't lay jumps everybody and ends up.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Well, you can't lay and dub tied for the lead, you know, early, I guess early back nine until can't lay, uh, vaporized himself on 11, uh, T.C, that was some of all fears for you, man. Yeah. Truly. I mean, it's it's being W championship week. Like we could have seen a three-time champion in Patrick Cantlay. There's money on the line. There's there's FedEx Cup bonus money.
Starting point is 00:07:31 There's we're going to the tour championship next week. It's the playoffs. Nobody gets up for the playoffs like Patrick Can't Lay. Equity on the line these days too. Didn't he make it by like on the number can't lay? He was he was up to 19th. 19th. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Yeah. He was 41st, I believe, coming into, 43rd coming in to the week. He was one of, I think, three guys that bumped up. Woodland was 31st. Got up to 18th. That's right. That's right.
Starting point is 00:07:57 So what if I asked you guys this, I said, Wyndham Clark is the blank best American golfer right now, as in like first, second, third, fourth, fifth. What's without putting as much, you know, I'm not asking for a ton of thought into it. I'm honestly looking for kind of a gut reaction to this one of who is, who is, Wyndham Clark is the blank best American golfer right now. I got to say three.
Starting point is 00:08:20 I think it's Scotty, Cam Young, and then Windham. And I will say this, though, I think Windham is, he's, he's a microwave man. I mean, when he gets hot, he gets going. So it's feast or famine, it seems like, with him. But I am very impressed by how he can keep a hot streak rolling, like a hot week. He just kind of goes, he just gets in it. And today was an example of like, yeah, he went backwards a little bit. but he, when that, I don't know, sometimes when he starts putting well,
Starting point is 00:08:49 those putts just look like they never look like they're going to miss. And it's really, but some weeks it's like he's just, you know, not just not in the mix. Whereas I think there's a higher floor for those first two guys. And maybe even a higher floor like got her up would be gotter up and more cow would be probably four and five for me right now. I don't know if you guys have an argument with that. But they feel like they maybe have a higher floor than he does. But I'd be open to debating that. it's it's interesting because like if you're it's a hard one to answer on a night that he just won because like i would say i was
Starting point is 00:09:22 i was i was i forgot about zander i forgot about zander yeah he did i was like we barely even have on the on the president's cup team yeah talking about it a couple weeks ago yeah it's very very easy to overreact sam burns had an incredible year this year and like mea culpa there you know you know on a sunday night is super easy to do with exactly what you just did um and there is something to be said for shutting the door and doing it three times in one year and you know shit of cock and a pretty darn solid test in belrieve i would say and a birdie fest at uh you know not brian lison but Craig james yeah um so i mean burn yeah burns and um zander belonging the conversation but i re wins is i mean that's that's the name of the game man like that's hard to he's got to be at least in the top four then i think it's like who's had a better season it's you know he might be the player of the
Starting point is 00:10:15 year like it's him or scotty like his best you know probably player of the year but as best american is a different way of asking it and i think he's probably around sixth for me which is a that's a that's a high praise that's a high compliment not what i would have had uh you know four months ago uh if we were run run through your six for me just so i'm on my head it's like i'd take scottie i'd take zander i'd take morcawa uh i'd take burns and i'd take cam like comfortably um over him with The way he's got, I think that with Sam Burns, I would probably put Wyndham ahead of Sam Burns. Super high floor for Sam Burns, but we're not getting it done.
Starting point is 00:10:57 I'm going, Burns. It's very course dependent for me. I wasn't going to give you a number. I was going to say, like, he's the least likable best American golfer right now. Damn, but I should have. No, I phrased that pretty specifically. I didn't leave you that wiggle room to do that. But I think it's very course-specific of where you,
Starting point is 00:11:17 know, where you would, where you would take him. But that, but again, like, you know, high rough at Belrieve this week. It was pretty penal off the fairway. I don't know what data golf say in Sally as far as what it rewarded, but. Good blend. You know, greens were super, super soft. Zoisia kind of, you know, gave you a little bit of cushion there in the fairways. But like you said, you had to hit golf shots.
Starting point is 00:11:43 Like it wasn't like, I don't know, it was, it was better than I expect. to be in from a design perspective the greens were very like so vanilla and and boring like the greens are definitely what holds that golf course back um just from they're really really painfully dull and but the um like they they they shaved the the fairways into the bunkers they shaved the fairway into the the uh lake on 11 all sorts of just pretty deep like the bunkers were actually penal They were very penal. Really, really heavy. Like, it was a weird combo because there wasn't too much sand.
Starting point is 00:12:23 It was just very heavy sand. And there were some really deep bunkers as well. Like, the bunker short of 10 was like, I mean, you're 20 feet down there. It's crazy. So it was, but it was just so soft as well. Like there's just not a whole lot of fire in the golf course, which, you know, that's going to happen in August. So, yeah, I don't know where I was leading with that other than to say, like, you're, right it was a different type of of wind from windham let's say that i mean on the belrieve like it
Starting point is 00:12:51 is similar to quill i you said this it's like quail hollow and olympia fields had a baby and i was like i didn't say had a baby because everybody's been on me for saying you use that phrase a lot do you no i i said it's like olympia fields meets quill hollow okay um and i think like the the land feels very similar to olympia fields um it's good land it's it's a big big big ballpark and it can be a little bit it can feel a little bit uh you know there's like a little bit of a lack of intimacy at times um i thought 7 11 and 17 were probably my three favorite holes um you know par three is the greens are definitely a little bit turned up and then it's a good host venue for pga tour like for a big time pGA tour event i think is is kind of the take and i don't i don't like
Starting point is 00:13:41 i think it's a better golf course than valhalla say even i i just i don't think it's deserved of a major championship venue, but, um, but, hey, like, if we want to have massive PGA tour events, this, this should be a stop every five years, every four or five years. Fans were great. Logistics were good. Um, you know, not, not that easiest site to get in and out of, but like when they have the president's cup there and was that 20, 30, um, that'll be a great, it'd be a great site for it in the fall too, a little bit out of the, you know, August heat.
Starting point is 00:14:12 I think that's it. Like we, the criticism of Bell, one, this version of Bell Reeves way better than the 2018 version. It's been totally redone. It was better with Zoja, more runoffs around around the greens. It felt like there was a variety of, variety of different consequences. When you missed around the green, it wasn't just settling in deep rough. They had some deep rough around the green, but it was not that on repeat one. I thought, you know, a couple like weird bay hillish holes out there with, you know, big ponds to the left that you got to work your way around. But I kind of liked how those holes played. Like they made you, you know, I paid a ton of
Starting point is 00:14:43 attention on those T shots. I'm like, oh, Windham's taking iron with this. And Rory's hitting. I think it was the second hole. Roy's hitting Fairway Wood today. He hit driver yesterday. A good, good variety in that. And there's a massive difference in hosting a PGA tour event and hosting major championship. And I still think it's like not a major championship quality golf course. It would,
Starting point is 00:15:00 we would sound a lot like we do talking about Quail Hollow about it and that it's big, brawny, aesthetically beautiful, but just doesn't have like the most soul ever and doesn't, you know, isn't architecturally significant golf course and is not a major championship venue. But that doesn't mean it, among recent BMW championship venue, I, I,
Starting point is 00:15:16 I hear what people are probably saying. You guys are sponsored by BMW. Of course, you're going to say great things about Calvallee. We did not say good things about Kay's Valley. You guys loved Castle Pines. I like Castle Pines. That wasn't the greatest viewing.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Like as far as viewing at home, on site Castle Pines is very cool. It was just such a change up, such a curveball versus what these guys see week to week. Normally, but like this wasn't all that different from Olympia Fields for me. I know they're going to, you know,
Starting point is 00:15:40 they're planning to redo Olympia Fields. But yeah, like I don't know, Neil, like, How would you put this versus Liberty National next year? No, that's your home course. That's enough, D.C. I think Liberty is a good test of golf for pros.
Starting point is 00:15:57 It's going to be a little bit more like water left and OB right, you know, a little. I think this presented a, I found this golf course interesting. More thoughtful off the tea than I thought it would be. Sally, you mentioned number two. I thought the tee shot on 11, you know, that short par four. I thought that was an interesting hole. the approach into number 10 was really difficult. Like there were some spots out there to use the analogy like Alex Honnell Free Solo.
Starting point is 00:16:23 There were some boulder problems of like, man, you got to like, you know, you got to hit this shot right here. And then you see what happened to Rory on 17. I think 17's a great hole. He misses the fairway left. Everyone's worried about the creek down the right. That's not a brain dead layup. And he just, you know, kind of thoughtlessly tries to keep up the left side and it rolls out a little bit longer than everybody thinks it's going to, even on TV and it rolls into that that bunker.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Those bunkers are well placed to get to leave awkward angles. I hit one into a bunker on seven like 90 are bunker shot and it's just like just awkward. So even, you know, I picked the wrong club off the T. You have to be, that's a short par four on the front nine. So that stretch from seven through, I'd say 11 was was really good, I thought. And then. There's bogies to be had out there, man. Like six was so hard.
Starting point is 00:17:12 Like nobody can't. I don't think that's a good hole, but it was like, I mean, that's an absolute heat check. And the greens, they're really big, and these guys are such good putters that, you know, you compared to last week at Southwind where the greens are smaller. And I think that presents maybe a challenge that, but more of a challenge to these guys that I want to watch them around the greens. But I will take the fans this week over what you saw last week. I think I left even on Wednesday feeling like this is a great sporting arena, good viewing spots, good finish.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Like there's, like you said, there's bogies, there's volatility down the stretch. And the people showed out. I'm thrilled for the PGA tour that they finally got the, we're letting the ropes down at the end. And, you know, they've done that all season. And like, it's been either a, you know, a blowout or like, yeah, there's just not that many people. And then today, I was like, oh, there it is. There's the shot down the fairway on 18. And there's, you know, it's 45, 50 people deep following the final group of the fairway.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Well, these people have been starved for, like, decent sports since they abandoned the Cardinals. like three years ago. Like they haven't had any decent, decent sport to watch. They completely and totally abandoned their team the first time they had a losing record in 18 years. And, you know, they harness that energy into the golf course today.
Starting point is 00:18:28 And we appreciate that. We've heard some of many great things about how great those fans are. And we saw it today. You know, it was awesome. Best fans in golf. I do think in all seriousness, the BMW is very reliant,
Starting point is 00:18:39 like the Western Golf Association, the Evans Scholars Foundation, and very relying upon the membership at these clubs and the local business community to buy hospitality suites, buy tickets, all that. They've been sold out since before the beginning. The fastest they've ever sold out. So big support locally.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Yeah, like the local, like, and I think the club as well, like the club understood the mission. It wasn't an ego thing. It wasn't a dick measuring contest. It was very much a, you know, hey, this, like the mission is to support the Evans scholarship. leave it to us. We will do that.
Starting point is 00:19:16 And it was great hospitality all week, everywhere, you know, both on site and offsite there in St. Louis. So good people. Like very interesting, very interesting place, complicated place in certain ways, too. It's just a, it's a very fascinating city. I do want to give a shout out, because I do want to hear about your guys,
Starting point is 00:19:40 a little bit more about your guys week. But in honor, Neil, I couldn't quite tell if you're doing the same thing here, but for tonight, in honor of one of dub, for his win, we open up a little bit of grape. Open some grape. Open up some grape. I got a high noon transfusion here.
Starting point is 00:19:54 High noon vodka, seltzer, vodka iced tea, tequila seltzer, no matter the occasion, high noon has something for you. If you're looking for your next pack, check out the high noon tequila, Seltzer Fiesta pack. It's an eight pack or now comes in the bigger 12 pack.
Starting point is 00:20:07 If you're having an ungronde fiesta, all are made with real tequila, real juice. great for any fiesta no matter where you plan to throw it find the high noon tequila seltzer fiesta pack nearest to you at high noon spirits.com high noon sun's up i've been i've like three of these left from the summer and i was saving them just in case we had a dub uh dub victory to celebrate tonight so opening up some great in honor of mr dub so just a circle back because you know i i feel like i got out of my skis on the best american golfer i wanted to check the data
Starting point is 00:20:35 golf the close thing that we've got to like benchmark here top americans in the data golf rankings He's got Scotty Sheffler first. Sam Burns is third. Second amongst Americans. I'm second amongst Americans. I'm just going down. I'm just going to call it like what their ranking is though. Sam Burns is third overall.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Sanders Schofley's seventh. Russ Henley is ninth. Patrick Cantley is 10th. Pam Young is 11th. And then it's Colin and Wyndham at 13 and 14. And then Chris God. That's going to lie. So, no, and I know I don't feel, I don't really agree with that.
Starting point is 00:21:10 If you're asking my. opinion of who I you know who do I feel personally like no I'm saying how to data can lie that's their golf scores that's like the little golf scores well how long of how yeah I was gonna ask you that what what's what data are we looking at it's an aging they use an aging system recent results are weighed more heavily than than older results so tc it says the trend line shows the 25 round moving average in true strokes gained total uh over the player each player's last 100 rounds okay so that's I guess that's your timeline. But I just wanted, you know, so I left out Henley.
Starting point is 00:21:45 I bring it up more to say like, oh, we didn't say Henley. We didn't say Patrick Cantley as like who is, you know, I guess objectively or data-wise the best. But I just think, I mean, Wyndham's getting it done, man. Three wins is a big ass deal. Like, I can't argue with that. I agree that Sam Burns is a higher floor, but I still feel like. It's hard. The people that win, but then also go away and you don't think about them when they go away is where it gets hard to classify, you know.
Starting point is 00:22:11 like yeah and you look at his his hundred round like moving average at that scatter plots like at the beginning of the year it starts to go way up he was he was you know last year was no good for for dub if we'd have done this question after he missed the cut in detroit like i don't know what you know it would look a lot different that's why i said it's always hard to you know easy to get caught up on night like tonight what all right sallie if if let's say windham wins the tour championship next week he's the Is he the player of the year?
Starting point is 00:22:44 I think he's probably going to be it either way, right? Unless, like, Scotty would have to win to take it back, maybe? And then you're like, all right, he won the Tour Championship versus U.S. Open. I mean, it's hard because Scotty's got so many top five. He's got like 12 top fives. I think Wyndham's got six total top fives all year. And, but he's got the major win. It's like, well, what are we doing here, right?
Starting point is 00:23:06 I mean, the best golfer this year has obviously been Scotty, but the best results is different, you know, different question here. I mean, Windham didn't even have a top 10 until he won the CJ Cup. I know. It's weird. Craig James. So, you kind of answer my question. Like, what if he does win next week? He gets player of the year. And then you guys like, no, he's the fifth best golfer in American golf. I'm like, that's crazy. I mean, I don't, part of me doesn't disagree with you.
Starting point is 00:23:32 But I'm like, that it's such a oxymoron. We should use this to highlight how stupid this is to have this conversation right before the tour championship in terms of how stupid. the tour championship is. Sure. The week should be like, who's going to win it all next week? Like who's, and nobody talks like that? It's like, who's going to win player of the year? Like, the whole thing should be about this week being the player of the year.
Starting point is 00:23:53 And at least, though, it's, at least it's close right now for player of the year as a conversation, right? I mean, you know, if Rory wins today, it's like, oh, man, you know, he's got, wins the masters. And then, you know, to write, for Roy, to show up from Abiza, just completely mail it in last week. And then if he came out and won this week, I'd be like, damn, that is something. Like, I think he purposely mailed again last week. I mean, it's just, it's something. I don't know. It's making me think about a lot of stuff, though.
Starting point is 00:24:19 I'm like, that's, that's really something. I would normally laugh at you, T.C. But again, the driver he pulled on 18 on Thursday and like basically almost tried to drive the green. It looks like. Three days in a row, right? I watched him. I was there on 18 Thursday and saw him make that birdie. I'm talking, no, at St. Jude.
Starting point is 00:24:35 FedEx. But even made a birdie on 18 Thursday at BMW. He hit the guy. he like 380 off the T, took it over the trees on 18. I thought, yeah, after his, I think 65 on Thursday, I thought he was going to win this week. Solly, the whispers on site all week were that he was going to, like he was going to skip again.
Starting point is 00:24:54 Like he came up with a deal with the tour. He was going to skip again. And they were like, no, no, like, you can't take this deal for you to miss your minimum starts and then skip FedEx. Like, you're showing up there. We're going to find you a lot. And then he ends up, you know, basically, showing up out of spite so i think that's you know and then he turns this game on all of a sudden
Starting point is 00:25:15 this week uh i listen i bet he wins next week like i just want to see the scotty rory showdown i know at some point you know i thought we were going to get it this week at first but then i guess scottie's dealing with hand foot and mouth disease yeah about the post round interview with scottie yeah i got a little hand foot mouth i mean who among us brother i feel that I think it's also just Rory, I'm sure he saw this golf course and was like, oh, this is what I'm about. And I think he knows Memphis is not, decidedly not what he's about. You guys tell me too. And it seemed like the heat and humidity of St. Louis did not seem to be nearly, I know you guys weren't in Memphis, but like it didn't seem to be.
Starting point is 00:25:54 It was significantly better weather this year than it was in Baltimore last year. Baltimore was brutal. That would be the comparison. Like, you got lucky. They did. It was crazy, crazy hot and humid, I guess, like the week before, the weekend before. And then big, massive thunderstorms came, like rolled through overnight, a couple nights in a row and kind of cool it down. But yeah, it just like the, I don't know, everybody looks miserable in Memphis.
Starting point is 00:26:22 And I think it carries through to the broadcast and nobody wants to be there. And it didn't seem that way this week from watching on TV at least. We started a couple of caddies on like Tuesday night. and they were they were telling stories about Memphis Memphis is like it's like no you don't understand man like we're seeing stars and shit like one guy had to go get an IV yeah I think Harris English's catty had to get an IV this is like a year or two ago you know they're just like man we just are all prepared now Memphis is is a yeah it's like nobody talks we just we did one foot in front of the other out there it's like Everest yeah they got oxygen masks
Starting point is 00:26:58 uh you guys played the pro am any uh anything anything significant happen anything anything you know, especially, you know, You hit it good? I did. On the front night, I hit great. Yeah. And so T.C., we start, we play with Foxy, which was, I mean, what a thrill to see. PC and Ryan Fox just talked golf courses in, you know, in the southern hemisphere for nine straight holes.
Starting point is 00:27:20 I mean, they were just two, two peas in a pod. Foxy's playing, he's not, you know, everybody else is, they drop their, you know, putting discs. And they kind of like, oh, you guys go ahead and hit. We're going to work the. Marines. They got their teams out there. Foxy was just playing one ball, like not just kind of just hanging with us, man, and locked in on the best ball pro-am format. Like it was, it was a, it was a, Neil, you're popping here. Yeah, yeah. Hey, you guys, yeah, he's like checking the scorecard, you know, like, oh, yeah, we got to pop here. You know, he's, uh, good, good team player. And then
Starting point is 00:27:52 we played so fast, I saw with a second group off the front. Uh, and the group ahead of I was playing really fast too, but we were, we made the turn 30 minutes ahead of time. So Jake Knapp was our back nine guy and he was nowhere to be found. So you can see in this picture, we took this picture on 17 because he showed up on the 12th T. He's like, oh, my bad guys. Like first time in history. Yeah, not his fault at all. He's like the first time in history that like any pro am groups made the turn ahead of time and like well ahead of time.
Starting point is 00:28:18 So we played the back with Jake Knapp. And I, it was a delight watching both of their golf swings. Two unique golf swings. I mean, Naps is like built in a lab, man. So powerful. And the way Foxy, the lag he has on his swing up close and the way he like uses the ground. It's almost the way he plays this cut really consistent. He can almost ramp up.
Starting point is 00:28:41 It's like a pitcher throwing a slider. And it's like how much cut does he want on that slider? Like some holes he would really cut it. And his coach was walking with us. And I was talking to him about that. And he's like, yeah, man, he just really understands. like how to get the club face right where he wants it and it's it's just a super consistent um you know ball flight the left side of the course doesn't exist it's really really really
Starting point is 00:29:03 uh really impressive solly he uh i was almost a little bit worried i'm like man like i hope this guy's as cool as i've kind of been told and made him out to be 10 times cooler than even my wildest expectations like i knew i can count on some hyperbole from you to know talking about sport and He's just a, he's the, he's the ultimate bloke, man. He's, uh, he was showing me all sorts of pictures and videos from, from him and his buddies, uh, party with the Claret Jugg. And, uh, he's, he's just, yeah, it was, it was, it was truly, truly a delight. And I think we buried the first four holes, right now? Yeah, we did.
Starting point is 00:29:43 I made like a 50 footer on the first hole and we were off and running. Um, so it was a ton of fun. And then, listen, I, we had to wait on the 10th T. Go ahead, TC. Hold on. All right. So we're playing with Mike Bruny. I don't know if you've met him, Sally.
Starting point is 00:29:56 Bruny's great. He's one of WGA guys, Olympia Fields guy. And he's just a shot of life. And then we're making the term. We're in pretty good place, but Neil and I are playing a match as well. That's true. And this is separate from our year-long match, which Neil's already forfeited. Well, I just think I ran out of holes, I think.
Starting point is 00:30:17 He got like 32 down. And he was like, I think we kind of forgot to keep. keep track. Yeah. It just can't, in good conscience, I must concede because I don't know the actual score anymore. Yeah. So Neil, Neil pushed it to five up on me at one point.
Starting point is 00:30:34 But before we got there, so Neil, Neil, Neil's playing pretty well. And then we get to, he drives the green on 11. They had the tease up. He hit one, like he had his seed into 11. And then, uh, three put par. Yeah, three put par. put par and then I split after that I birdied the next hole and we we kind of start you know I start clawed my way back into it so I'm one down going into 16 yes all right and 16's this part par three there's grandstand all like wrapping around this this entire back of this hole all the way over to the left well Neil hits like this toe shank no that's not true I hit I I hit a really flush eight iron that turned left.
Starting point is 00:31:21 I mean, about 40 yards left. Yeah, yeah. Like it was chloroformy, but it was high. It was like it was, I mean, it was compressed. You know what I mean? And I was, I don't know. I was not a good shot. But I, but it was well struck.
Starting point is 00:31:33 So it was not a toe shank. That's not what it was. Well, Neil and I, and so it's, it's sailing like not only into the grandstands, like high into the grandstand. All right. I'm screaming for too. We are screaming. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:46 So he ends up, you know, I'm like, holy shit. I think that hits. somebody and nap's now i think that definitely hit somebody we all thought it went over everyone's like no i think that it was over and so so neil walks up you you take it from here there's well i thought i i did not see the ball land and i didn't see a huge reaction in the grandstand so i thought it was over the back i saw some people like i thought i saw like a marshal look behind the grandstand as we're walking off the tea so i walk up there and i'm like hey i'm like you guys see one fly over over the grandstand and and it's hush tones over there and it's like no it landed in and it
Starting point is 00:32:19 actually it hit that girl. It hit a second grader. She starts second grade on Monday tomorrow. So the name's Catherine. She was, right in the leg. Yeah, right in the thigh. She had a nice.
Starting point is 00:32:30 On the fly? Yeah, on the fly. And I was like, immediately like the blood drain out of my head. I was like, oh my God, this is awful.
Starting point is 00:32:38 She's like, you know, hyperventilating. The mom was so cool. She's like, she's okay. I'm like, is everything all right?
Starting point is 00:32:44 And, you know, kind of an overbearing marshal. He's making a loud radio call from medical attention. Mom's like, we're good. She's fine. I'm like, I'm so sorry. It was epic. You know, people start to crowd around. And I'm like, listen, you know, let's, you know, so I didn't have a Sharpie and I, uh, glove. I didn't want to give her a sweaty glove. I only had one. So I said, would you like a golf ball? She said, yeah, you know, and she got immediately, she got super happy. So I gave her a game worn pro v2. She was thrilled about it. And, you know,
Starting point is 00:33:15 mom was like, everything's good. Like, just hit her in the leg. We're going to be totally. fine. She's like, now I have, you know, she has a story for first day of class. Second grade, I was like, bring the ball to school, show and tell. Great. So what did I do? I have no idea where this golf ball is. It's been at this point five minutes over there. I took TIO relief. And I took line of sight relief. And you know what I did? Did you take virtual assurance that it was in the, the TIO? Is that way you could, did you turn the ball? No, no, the ball was still up there. Okay. I feel like the second grader, like hitting the second grader. I mean, virtual. certainly certain with the, with the welt on her leg.
Starting point is 00:33:51 I thought you said you didn't find the ball. No, I didn't go, I didn't go up and get the ball. So I, uh, so I dropped one. So really, she got two probies. Yeah. I don't know if she picked the other one up, but she was thrilled to have the second one. And I, uh, I got that shit up and down. And I, and I vanquished TC.
Starting point is 00:34:06 And then it was folded like a lawn chair the next hole. It was a nasty, nasty up and down. So he, he gets it up and down. He makes like a 10 footer, which I knew was going in. I knew this was going to happen. And, and, and I'm watching it all, kind of from like he's probably 15 20 feet below there was there was kind of a dip uh over there and i'm up on the green and i'm like man like he you know i just hit a mediocre chip didn't get up and
Starting point is 00:34:30 down and then we get to the next tea and it's you know little dog there's like 25 tea boxes on 17 there's like a there's like island tea boxes in the middle i mean it's it's crazy how many teboxes there are so we're way up we're way up to the right and and There's this big jumbo-tron screen that, like, the back side of it is all meshed off or whatever. It seriously looks like the green monster. Like, it's, you know, 25, 30 feet tall and probably, you know, 30 feet wide. It's just like this big cube that's sitting up on the left side. Not in play from the, from the pro tees.
Starting point is 00:35:13 Yeah. For the record. And then they've got the big sky cam thing that's, you know, on the, on the, uh, the, the, uh, the, the, uh, the lines on the track because you know like cbs had some awesome camera angles and all that they had a great build out on 18 and so neal i mean he hit like a foot from the top of this thing it was like a it was like a double off the top of the green monster and it bounces back to the right into play and all that i'm like all right this is this is what i'm dealing with here today meanwhile he had already you know you had already flailed one into the creek up the right so i was like i just
Starting point is 00:35:48 anything but right. So there was the anti-right ball. And yeah, I did. I banked it off the green monster, the blue monster. And, you know, made par on 17 and that was it. So, yeah, I, do I feel great about the TIO stuff? No, I don't, you know. But after hitting a little girl, I could, I had to get out of there, man.
Starting point is 00:36:07 I had to hit that. I dropped that ball quick, took like one practice swing and just chipped it on up there. It worked out. I could not believe I had to hear from other people that you hit a second grade girl. I would have hoped that you would have reported that. Rising second grade. Roger Steele heard about it. He was aghast.
Starting point is 00:36:24 I mean, everybody was, it was the talk of, it was the talk of the whole place. And I want, I want people to, Castle Pines, I did hit it over a grandstand.
Starting point is 00:36:30 And I did play that as it lied. So, but if he hit it in the grandstand, I mean, I don't know what, what else am I supposed to do there? It's amazing. Anyway,
Starting point is 00:36:40 Neil, Neil, how was the gauder, and then Neil on Monday night did a gauder of Q&A. Yeah, it was great. Talked a little Jersey Shore.
Starting point is 00:36:47 he caddy for four or five years told some great caddy stories like really locked in as a caddy sounds like growing up uh guys got her up just doesn't seem to overcomplicate things got maybe has a little dust and johnson in him just like yeah man when he he's a quote from from that q and a was like i was like you seem to be able to close 62s on sunday 64's like he's like he's like yeah when i'm in contention i just get really focused and when i'm not in contention i just like i get unfocused and i'm like what's that like because that would be nice to just just like, oh, yeah, I just lock in when all the money's on the line. I just, I just, I just play good. I was like, that's money. That must, that must be fun, man. But just seems
Starting point is 00:37:27 like he's gotten a little bit better. He talked about, you know, he went to Rutgers not far from home, wasn't super locked in. And then the year at Oklahoma, it's like, first, he'd been far away. He's, he's like, I kind of jarred me into like, man, I got to, I got to lock in if I want to make this a career and I might be pretty good. And that was kind of like the year. He just, he bawled out. One of the Haskins and Nicholas Awards, same year and just gotten a little bit better every year. Can I get back on the BMW championship trip next year? I'll spend the week in the big city.
Starting point is 00:37:59 Come on. Come on. The best weeks of the year. It's really awesome. They treat us so well. It's such a first class event. This episode is brought to you by BMW. Proud title sponsor the BMW championship.
Starting point is 00:38:10 We celebrate the tournament's 20th anniversary. We're reminded of what makes this event so special. every year, thousands of people come together to build an entire city around championship golf tournament, creating unforgettable experiences for players and fans alike. Since BMW became the title sponsor, the BMW Championship has been named PJ Tour Tour Tour of the year six times, a reflection of the incredible work that goes into every detail. For BMW, it's an opportunity to connect with passionate golf fans, share the latest vehicles and innovations and help support something that's even bigger.
Starting point is 00:38:37 Every BMW championship is played for the Evans Scholars Foundation, helping provide life-changing college scholarships to deserving kags across the country. BMW, the ultimate driving machine. So a couple things, you know, we did a build out pod that went out last week. So check that out. And I was able to catch up with Patrick Timson, the conductor. Classic, he's handling, handling a typo issue, you know, a couple bridges washed out in the rainstorms. You guys just handling it.
Starting point is 00:39:05 And then TC and I, I finally met Clemens, the guy from BMW that cites the cars, you know, and we talked to him for, well, 45 minutes, just about the strategy. and all the work that goes into like how they think about the signage and stuff, which I mean, I know that might not be interesting to a lot of people, but I just think it's fascinating how you can throw up like a little literal mini city. And it's got to be on time and how much thought goes into that stuff. So check that pot out if you haven't.
Starting point is 00:39:33 And Neil, I want to give a shout out to Vince and Kaz as well. Because you didn't and Patrick didn't. Well, Patrick did. I just, I don't think we put that in the podcast. So shout out the Vince for sure. Yeah. The whole WGA squad is such a, it's just like they've become friends and, and, you know, WGA,
Starting point is 00:39:52 Octagon, uh, even the like the setup people from the tour that do it, Coxie, you know, and all those guys. It's like, it's, it's one of the highlights of the year. So, uh, we had a finalization of the U.S. Rider Cup, excuse me, president's cup, uh, automatic qualifiers. It's going to be Scotty Schepler, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark. Sam Burns, Russell Henley, and Colin Moracawa are your top six. Just missing out.
Starting point is 00:40:19 Chris Goderup is seventh. He is just a few points behind Morikawa. Ben Griffin fell from fifth in an automatic spot into eighth. This past week, Xander's ninth, spawn on the outside looking in 10th, JT 11th, Bridgman, 12, Cantlay 13, Akshay, 14, Mav McNeely, 15. So decent size, you know, event there of Ben Griffin falling. out of the top six. He would be one that I would think is potentially, you know, is not an automatic captain's pick. And I think it would have been a big deal for him to qualify automatically
Starting point is 00:40:54 to make the team. I'm not saying he will not be a captain's pick because the bottom of the team is shaking out to be a little bit different. But I'll say like he is going to be a test case for kind of whether there is going to be any change on the U.S. side. I laugh before I say that because I think he's probably, they're probably going to look and be like, oh, seventh on the standing is going to make it. I mean, eighth should make it anyway. way as Knight's Zander. They'll probably just kind of go down the list anyways. But I think he's a pretty solid case of like somebody that's earned points way early in the process
Starting point is 00:41:22 and has not played their best golf up close to it. And it's kind of the case for the point system needed to be redone anyways. And what's the point of giving yourself six captains picks if you're just going to go down the points list? So I don't know what's going to happen there, but that was one shakeout from this week. But I got to push back a little bit on you, Sally, as the data guru, wouldn't you, want them to use the list? So you're just saying the points list is not. I get poorly constructed. It's a bad system to start with. No, I would not, I would not want them to use the list. That's the, that's what, what's interesting is like, and this is different, but Furek saying they're getting ready to redo the system on the Rider Cup side. We're going to learn a lot about what they think of process, you know, in putting that together on the Rider Cup side here. But so. Is this a new task force or? I don't think technically it's a new task force. I think. I think. Technically, it's a new task force. I think. I
Starting point is 00:42:13 think they've you know i don't think they're going to go back to that nomenclature i'd be i'd be surprised if they did i don't think ben griffin should make it i'm just going to say no i i don't either i'm but i i i wouldn't be surprised the young guns coiven thorpe biornson on the points list way down i mean coiven's like 48th coming into the week because i mean he was turned pro just a few months ago um so but you know it's interesting coiven didn't make the bmw championship um thorpe biornson will not make the tour championship. And those were kind of some of the two hotter names just a couple weeks ago that people were ready
Starting point is 00:42:48 to give spots to. Didn't really slam the door, didn't really make it easy on the captains. It would take kind of going past a few, basically, like, what fans want them to do is go past some names that we're a little bit bored with and go for something that's different. Hell yeah. Yeah. And I, again,
Starting point is 00:43:06 as I've said earlier, I just would be very surprised if they, you know, reach past some of those names to take just a different. name. That's not even necessarily better, just as a rookie and could be, you know, exciting, you know, exciting potential. And what's interesting, too, like when you think about, you know, USA basketball, like there's different positions. It almost makes the lose. We need a, we need a three and D guy. You know, we need a specific type of player. Whereas in golf, it's just like, no, man, like, there's not, you don't have, there's no narrative
Starting point is 00:43:36 around that, which is kind of. I think there could be and should be as in like, hey, you would pair really well in foursums with this. guy and you would pair really well in four ball with this guy like you are a specific captain's pick for a reason here or I need you for two set two team sessions and it's only foursums and then I need you to go win your singles match like that that's a way of thinking about it that but then you know what I would love is for someone to come on this year pod and tell me what you know maybe maybe someone else in the class has this question but what pal pairs well in foursums do like why because I remember last of the rider cup it's like it was it
Starting point is 00:44:10 Colin and Harris English were like the, you know, statistically the worst combo you could make. And I still is like, in my head, I'm like, why is that? Is it? Because they hit it similar because they, I get in the macro sense, they don't balance out each other's weaknesses or what, but I guess if someone could give me a cheat sheet on, like what you would be looking for to match up in foursomes, I would, I would be open to that. I think some of it would depend on the course. Yeah, a lot of it would.
Starting point is 00:44:39 A lot of it would. But it's just, you know, are you using, you know, skills to, to complement each other and counter each other? Also, it depends on them teeing off in the proper order, which they managed to screw up with Scotty and Russell Henley. So, you know, I don't think necessarily that the U.S. was looking at it that way. But, I mean, yeah, you would, you would, you know, we talked about this on the, on the aftermath pot that we did with Duncan Carey. I'm just like, or I think we talked about with Dota, too, several years ago, just like, yeah, you run a simulation of like, here's Rory's drive. and if he plays plays with Tommy, here's what Tommy's drive
Starting point is 00:45:12 would look like on the odd holes. And all right, well, the bunkers are a big problem if Tommy tees off the odd holes. Why don't we use Rory to get over all these bunkers? And from there, it's going to leave eight shots within this range of iron or wedge
Starting point is 00:45:27 for whoever we pair Rory with. Oh, Tommy's great at those. Let's pair him there. Tommy's not as good from 175 to 200. I'm just using examples here. So let's not waste that. We can use our best one, 75 to 200 player with a shorter driver and maximize it there is how you would do that.
Starting point is 00:45:44 And, you know, putting range, how often are you putting somebody in a certain putting putting range? Are they going to have all the birdie putts? Putt your best putters to have, you know, most of the birdie putts would be like how you would lay all that over. But I think, you guys like playing together? Cool, let's go. Let's bench Cam Young for the opening session. I do think one guy I'm excited for on the international side. I think he's a lock for the team. Rio hits Satsune. uh played relatively well this week i think he was 10th or 11th and in the internationals i think
Starting point is 00:46:16 it's going to i think it's going to be an interesting like i'm more excited about this venue for the internationals that i've been at least since uh since rural melbourne back you know however long ago that was was the 2019 yeah um and i i think you know some of that's i mean shit the captain co-designed the the golf course himself but but but also Also just the short grass the the you know it's a second shot golf course and just seeing guys you know you got see woo's playing pretty good golf Sung Jay seems to be playing himself back into form You know you're gonna need a Nico Etchavaria to play really well, but otherwise Yeah, I don't know
Starting point is 00:46:57 Jay like Jay Day needs to get it going Adam Scott. He's playing playing good G Tom Kim's playing good G like really good course fit for him. I think and hit Satsunei you got somebody to pair Hedekki with you wanted to just from a language perspective. T.C. Come on. So, I know you're trying. I know you're trying. I know you're trying. This is one of the worst mismatches I've ever seen in team golf. No, this, I felt like it was
Starting point is 00:47:24 said that before, Sally. Much worse mismatch at Royal Montreal last time around. I don't know. So going down the list, you got Siwu, this is the current standings. Not sure if they were updated. after today, but see what you can go off the O WGR. Ryan Fox. Hideki Matsuyama, Minmoo Lee, Tom Kim is fifth, Adam Scott
Starting point is 00:47:46 six, Corey Conner's. That's a good top six. Seventh. Nico Etchervira, eighth, Sungjay M. 9th, Jason Day 10th. Casey Jarvis and the weekend. Listen, it gets out soon. And then you've got Nick Taylor, Potkeeter, and, I don't know, Jaden Shaper.
Starting point is 00:48:03 I'm not familiar with his game. Sure. I mean, listen, we're going to have to get some names to go way down the board, right? But like, let's get weird. Like, I think this is an opportunity to get extra weird with the, I don't, like, I don't think there's any rule. Does the guy have to be a PGA tour member? Like, we pick somebody way outside the, the balance. It would certainly help to be able to add Neiman and Lucas Herbert to the team right now. Like that would, that would certainly help. Setting aside live. Like if it was like, all right, we're going to, we're going to bring on. Who are those people you're talking about? I don't know. I haven't gotten that far yet, Neil. I think Shaper would be one of them, but I don't know if that's what you're,
Starting point is 00:48:47 what you're looking for. I just think Royal Montreal was such a, you kind of know how that's going to go, given a larger sample size in the President's Cup. If anything, they should be trying to shrink the sample size to make this thing competitive. There's so many more things that they could do to make this more competitive. They have done that.
Starting point is 00:49:06 They've taken matches away. I used to have too many matches. They've taken matches away and made it kind of more in line, closer in line to the Ryder Cup. But as we're speaking, Michael LaSaso has won live golf Indianapolis. Rom, the dude,
Starting point is 00:49:20 Rom got pipped. Got runner up, yeah, by LaSaso. What a memory for LaSaso. When in the last one? Put that on the resume, kiddo. You know, that's big for the young man. Oh,
Starting point is 00:49:32 it's got O'Diole's just taking the stage. I'm kind of upset. I don't have the sound on for Arlo's sign-up. off for this one here but uh what did rom do down down the stretch i don't know he buddy bogied his last hole no he didn't he birdied his last hole he's finished on one he finished on one he he he bogied one i don't think that's right and he started on two he birded two and he he he finished on one oh did he yeah i don't know how their scoreboard works you see the little dark thing on the left Oh, I see. I know you're very familiar
Starting point is 00:50:07 with this. He did bogey his last hole. Rom. It's a shame. It was just so jarring flipping over to that after the BNW because I had it on mute on the second TV and you forget about the music every time. It just, he's lining up a shot coming into 17.
Starting point is 00:50:26 Just, oh, this is Morgan Wallen absolutely blared. Thinking about me. God me. Cow me cow girls. We got a couple other, you know, some things, I guess, from pressers from earlier in the week as we, you know, we're going to talk a little bit of live stuff here. But two guys in particular were asked questions about Live golf. It was Scotty Schaeffler and Rory McElroy. They had some different answers to those.
Starting point is 00:50:53 But I think we have those clips here when Scotty was asked about welcoming, welcoming players back, if you have that, Cody. There's chatter again about Liv, maybe not having as many events next year, and some of the guys wanting to come back. Would you be welcoming to the tour offering the same opportunity that Brooks took up? Yeah, I think, like when we talk about the best players, you know, Liv has a few players that are really good. You know, I think the depth that we have on our tour is a bit unmatched.
Starting point is 00:51:22 But I think when you look at the higher levels of live golf, there's definitely some players that would provide, you know, a lot of value to the tour and guys that I love competing against us. well and so I think going forward there obviously has to be I think some sort of penalties what those are you know all that roll up and all those guys figured out you know we have great leadership within the tour now but I think having those guys come back and competing with whatever happens with live whether those guys want to leave or I mean you got to ask them but I think for me being able to
Starting point is 00:51:47 compete against the best players in the world you know there's certainly some guys on that tour that can compete out here and you know I look forward to the chance to compete with them more often all right and then we'll We'll play these back to back. We can react to both of them. But here's, here's Rory being asked something similar as well. Gotti was asked about the possibility of live guys coming back and whether they bring value, in your opinion,
Starting point is 00:52:11 are there guys, if it goes away, that should be allowed back? I mean, I'd argue have they brought value to live? You know, I think PJ Tur is in a really good spot. Yeah, I don't agree with Rory there. I think they definitely brought value to live. I mean, they made it like a four-year saga, but, you know, that's a, guy gave you one, brother. Such a good answer.
Starting point is 00:52:42 Like, it was just a perfect answer of like, there's got to be penalties. I look forward to compete with those guys. There's only a few guys that are really, really, really good players. You got kind of got that dig in there. It was just a, you know, I'll let those guys figure it out, like what that's going to be. Smart of him not to weigh in on what the penalties should be. And I don't know at this point what, what Rory's after with that. but it was just a
Starting point is 00:53:05 it's sick he's going to tell you what he thinks speak on this I mean I don't I'd have to check how consistent that is with prior statements I think you would agree John Rom would bring value back to the PGA tour and I think he has brought value to live
Starting point is 00:53:21 it just is not in the way that it's like means immediate eyeballs but not afraid to get in the mix and keep at it man it uh it ruffles some feathers, that's for sure. At this point, yeah, I mean, at this point, I think that's just what he's, almost what he's
Starting point is 00:53:39 trying to do, right? It's just ruffle feathers and, you know, I don't know. It's like he's, hey man, you ask me a question. I'm going to, I'm going to give you an unvarnished answer. That's, that's fine. It may not be totally accurate, but it reflects his feeling, right? Yeah, but the question was, should they be allowed back? And he just replies, like, what value do they?
Starting point is 00:54:02 bring to live and and kind of dodges it with i think pj tours in a really good spot like yeah they are but like hey it's a big outstanding question here man how should they be able to be brought back i don't think it's i don't think it's an accurate answer like yeah i don't think i mean rams a dude in your opinion he of course he would bring value of course absolutely um you guys want to get in the rest of live stuff anything else you want to you want to you want to draw like quick anybody that missed the tour championship that you were surprised at shocked at anything like that like i know um rider cup locks up straca just based on how your guys's takes set hasn't last year was it was a lock okay yeah norrin kind of shit down his leg today he he was in the mix
Starting point is 00:54:50 and then i think he hit a tough day and shot himself out of the mix neal had a really tough interaction with Bud Collie on the way back to the elevator. I had a note on that one too, T.C. So, you know, it's cool. You stay in, you know, we're staying in the host hotel and great day, Thursday. So we get back, Thursday evening, we're standing waiting for the elevator and Bud Colley walks up. I've met Bud, nice guy. And so I kind of was just, you know, and we had just been at a Holderness and Born event the night before.
Starting point is 00:55:18 And he's an ancient beak. So I kind of had all. I was like, oh, maybe I'll chat with him. I said, hey, bud, how to go out there? And right as that was coming out, I was like, I'd probably. should have led with something else and he was all frazzling he's like he didn't really say anything i was like hot huh he's like yeah it was hot and then tc let me know like three minutes later that he was dFL and i was like damn so it was a very quiet elevator ride uh that was one of those like
Starting point is 00:55:41 as the words were coming out i just it's like goodness said that i should have led with something else or just not said anything but hey you know sometimes you got to shoot your shot i i don't i don't not interacting in elevators. I like to at least say hot hello. It's like, oh, I know that guy. Hey, let me say something. I just should have led with something else. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:03 Pound for pound, JT. Post and need him in the Tour Championship. Finish 32nd. What else we got? We got Mav. Mav's got to be making the Tour Championship. You know, that's just you need to take a step forward there. Michael Brennan. I know, you know, I think he needs to be.
Starting point is 00:56:23 on the president's cup team but it's hard to pound the table for him if he's not going to be at the tour championship right uh these are your boys tc so it's it's big that no this is where the expertise comes in he's going to weave in and out of like yeah great from you know uh brendon he's got to be on the team j t can't be on the team because he didn't make the tour championship he didn't make the president's co yeah you know speed speed didn't even make the bmw he can't be on the team uh i do kind of miss that I can't even do an earnest speech should be on the president's cup team uh go around this time around like that's kind of part of the fun of fall yeah j t yeah jt 43rd just just just kind of a mess season man and not really talked about not bad enough to get talked about not good enough to be really
Starting point is 00:57:09 in the mix what's the problem just just just kind of putting slow decline of kind of everything man it's just not nearly the elite ball striker that he that he used to be and uh I mean, yeah, he's just barely above average ball striker. He's still really good short game. Pudding's been fine. Honestly, he's just like, yeah, one of his, this is low key, like a worse season than he put up in 2023 amongst that massive controversy around Rome. Iron play's horrific. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:42 110th on tour and iron play. Yeah. Yeah. Two top tens this year. Tough. Yeah, I don't know. It's, it's going to be an interesting spot for him for President's Cup. Incredible President's Cup record.
Starting point is 00:57:59 Good, good Rider Cup record as well. He's in that top 12 in points. Like, he did not get selected on the team in 2024, if you remember, for Royal Montreal. But again, it's kind of like that that weak bottom of the team, I think, makes it somewhat likely that he would give it to nab one of those wildcard spots. All right. let's do let's do live yeah let's go um just a couple just a lot of a lot of random notes from this past week one that was going around tyrell hatton uh he walked out to i want to break free uh and tom mckibbon came out to breaking free uh this was noted by the fried egg they were bragging
Starting point is 00:58:38 about this being kind of on the nose uh for wanting to bust out of live uh bragging about this to other players as well you can spare me on that one guys uh you signed up for this one uh you're not prisoner here you signed a contract you got paid really handsomely even if it's slightly less than uh what you were uh what you were promised uh you will not fight tyrol hadn't's got a long way to go to find any sympathy from me on this one as somebody you know as part of a failed startup long ago like you got to accept the you know if you're going to go risk if you're going to go disrupt something like this is part of it man so you got to kind of you got to wear it a little bit And I think maybe that's what, if I was going to, you know, carry,
Starting point is 00:59:18 carry Rory's water a little bit. I think that's what he's doing. I'm not throwing those guys a life raft. You know, like, I'm not going to go out of my way to, like, do I agree with what he said? No, but do I agree with like his tone? I'm like, I could see how he's doing that. Like, that's part of the deal, man. You got, you took a big risk.
Starting point is 00:59:33 You got paid for it. And now you got to kind of take it on the chin. I, yeah. Did you get any of those failed startups? Do you get paid millions and millions of dollars up front for any of that part? It's got so much, so much sweet, sweet equity, though. It's the sweetest, which I think is where, I think we're pivoting that direction here with Liv. That's sweet, sweet, sweet, long term.
Starting point is 00:59:56 Oh, my God. You sound like some of my crypto bets that did not go very well. I still technically have like 30 cents of Tira Luna or something like that. How's Bitcoin doing, Sally? Oh, it's awesome week. It's a huge week. Yeah, this week. It's always feeling it.
Starting point is 01:00:12 Thank you. But next, what do you got next, T. financial times i didn't get to read the article i don't have it financial times but it said uh there was going around that yasser basically pulled the plug on live after sergio's temper tantrum at the masters which i think would be a generous summation of things i'm sure they just yeah i don't think that was quite uh quite as on the nose as possible but it did again and i don't know why this doesn't get brought up more often like a year and a half ago a little more than a year a half ago yosser was offered hundreds of millions of dollars buyout for live and a seat on the PGA tour board
Starting point is 01:00:50 only for him like a little over a year later to just give away live for nothing like that you think that was a real offer like something that the tour would have followed through with because I don't well I think they they would but I think it was like to jettison it for it to be gone like we're going to pay a premium like we're going to buy live we're going to own the rights to it like that was the thing and it was like kind of a to buy you out basically yeah but it was kind of an as i understand the conversation kind of a nod in agreement of like like they live is worth zero dollars let's be clear about that like they did a good faith like offered somewhere between 500 and 750 million i've heard both numbers of like here's what
Starting point is 01:01:28 we're going to value it at uh but we're going to control it and it was like in yasser one to still talk about like what the plans for it were and they were like i mean we're going to control it and like we're going to you know run into the ground like it's done and that was when like the conversation ended like he stopped talking and then never they met this sides never spoke again after that i don't think and then just like a little over a year later after the masters he's like yeah we're done with this thing and got nothing out of it it's insane it's insane he could have parlayed and all the guy wanted was access out of all this and he could have had a seat on the pGA tour board and he's now just giving it away for nothing it's it's incredible it was not a solution i was
Starting point is 01:02:05 expecting to happen here um vendor lawsuits continue to roll in for live Josh Carpenter reported over this week, players had not been paid as of Monday of this past week for Liv Bedminster, at least some of the players later reported that they were finally paid. They did reduce the purse this week, in addition to canceling next week's team event as well. Some players got paid and some did. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:02:30 I think he reported that he hadn't talked to all players, but I think it was like at least some of the players that he had talked to or were aware of had not been paid. So I don't, I think it was just not going to say definitely. I mean, I obviously don't know how it works, but there's two different payments, right? There's kind of your, you know, your signing, your salary. I don't even know what you'd call it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:54 Because you are employed by Liv. And then there's the winnings. So the, I wonder if the players weren't getting paid their winnings from Bedminster. Yeah, I don't know. Scott O'Neill, he pulled some more bullshit this week. You know, was asked. about, have there been conversations with other leagues or stewards about not reinstituting fines, maybe letting players return to the DP World Tour. He said, you know, we heard some. He said,
Starting point is 01:03:17 Stewart Cage apparently called a bunch of our agents of players and some of our players directly. Said, I don't know him. I met him once, but I don't know him. I'm sure he's a wonderful guy, but said, I encourage you direct those questions to the leadership at the European Tour. It seems counter to where golf is going, but I can't answer for them. That, I believe, has been determined to be bullshit, and it was the other way around. Agents were calling the DP World Tour. It was not the TP World Tour reaching out directly to players that are under contract with Liv. Great, great move there.
Starting point is 01:03:46 And then he pulled a phrase, I think we got it, we got it. This is going to have to go into lexicon. We're going to have to keep this one. O'Neill said, the philosophy is simple. If you've been around me before you've heard it, it's complete, not compete.
Starting point is 01:03:59 Golf doesn't need one tour to win and everyone else to lose. There are great tours around the world. They serve different markets, different fans and have different purposes. We believe players should have the flexibility to compete across these platforms when they are good enough and enhance the fields.
Starting point is 01:04:14 Project Wedge. Project Wedge wants everyone to wants this to be a complete thing and not compete. As they were intending to stage their last two events up against the final two events in the U.S. against the PGA Tour, their team championship go up against the Tour championship of the PGA Tour, not let their players out of any of the events
Starting point is 01:04:31 to go play in any of those. They just want to complete it now, guys. Now if they're out of money, now they've lost the war, they just want to be part of the ecosystem. Can we just get along? gosh yeah Stuart Cage I was not familiar with his game he won the he won the he won the 1992 rhythm trophy and the 92 English amateur how about that and he's now like the
Starting point is 01:04:55 you know the head of player relations for the DP World Tour working the phones yeah lost the Murphy's Irish Open in 1995 you guys could have covered him in your your deep dive if you guys cared at all about the international game and not just PC the title of the episode is the it's the PGA tour season. I mean, literally we have to focus it on something. It's an overwhelming project.
Starting point is 01:05:20 Lastly, I have a very silly report was circulating that Rom was headed back to the tour for a $25 million fine. It had people believing it. I was playing golf with somebody on Tuesday. I got alert on my phone that Rom's headed back to the PGA tour for a $25 million fine. We're five years into this, guys.
Starting point is 01:05:36 We got to check sources. We got to check sources. sources do not re-reshare republish things coming from the live bot world they're going to do this all that's all they want that's all they want is the attention for this how that got treated as actual news and people were sharing it like it was real i do not understand but we we got it we got to stop sally you sound like my guy pro golf critic what is the source of this data what is this it cracks me up every time somebody replies to him with that with his own what is the source of this data Oh, they are going down with the ship, man.
Starting point is 01:06:11 It's incredible. We're still wrong about everything. That's what I keep reading. It's remarkable. TC, I know you got some live notes here as well. We're going to give that here in a second. I want to give a shout to our friends at Holderness and Born. The H&B fall collection.
Starting point is 01:06:26 It is here. They've got new arrivals. They've got new colors inspired by the landscape, the color, and the coastline of Northern California. All of your favorites are there and a whole lot more. It's a wonderful website just to scroll around. NLU10, get you 10% off HBGolf.com. It is still the only discount code on the market.
Starting point is 01:06:47 Holderness is everywhere. I just got a massive shipment in for a project we got coming up here. I've been greatly looking forward to that. They have so many great polos. This is one of my favorite hoodies of all time. You got a T-shirt on, Neil. They can make fantastic T-shirts. They make just pretty much everything,
Starting point is 01:07:01 everything you could possibly want. Good athletic shorts now. And I will say this fall collection, because we've got some in our shop. It's it truly, it's like washed out, blues, greens, like really hazy, beachy, like seaside light vibes. I'm way, way in on the fall collection. So I would encourage people to go check out what they're cooking up over on HBgolf.com. 10% off using code NLU10.
Starting point is 01:07:28 Anytime I see somebody in some H&B, you just, you know there are nowhere. You know that that does a ball knower. And so join join the club there, HB, golf.com and l u 10 you will not regret it you got i'm looking forward to this what are you what do you got on the live side tc uh yeah i was just going to give a shout out first and foremost to pro golf critic and some of the other online people just you know there sounds like some are maybe trying to jump ship or they're going to flip hells once we do i'll be very curious to see what my guy flush has to say once once the dust settles but uh i i got to give credit to the cleaks they're starting
Starting point is 01:08:06 Flusch is starting to flip a little bit, man. He's reporting some bad live news, which has been an interesting development of the last several weeks. Yeah, I know. We need to get to the root of that split there. Maybe he was waiting for some of his payments to come in. They just didn't come in. But the cleats, I will say the cleaks are going down with the ship, man.
Starting point is 01:08:25 They just like this public drip collab, absolute fire. They had the double clique. It was like an orange logo this week, kind of a burn orange thing. and they've just been like I think the cleaks could continue post-live. It's just like a lifestyle brand. Now you sound like pro-collar. No, I will like I will try to put together a group to buy the cleaks IP at like post-live and keep this thing going.
Starting point is 01:08:55 It's, uh, they did. I noticed out in the merch town at Bedminster. I mean, the the cleaks stuff is like thoughtful. You know, you compare to like the like four aces in Oklahoma. golf club stuff is like, oh, God. But you could see some teams are trying, some not. The Kleeks have a perspective. They have taken the merch and team branding very seriously.
Starting point is 01:09:19 And listen, I wish they would have taken the golf a little bit more seriously. I think Victor Perez missed this week because he and his wife, I don't know if they've had the baby yet or they're still expecting. But congratulations in order to them. Blandy gave it a really nice run this week, kind of ran out of a gas, finished solo 9th. Um, love seeing that. But just a total cast of characters on the leaderboard this week with Lassasso,
Starting point is 01:09:43 ROM, you know, one, two. And you got Bryson, Sergio, tied for third. Richard T. Lee, he's one of the wild cards, was, was fifth, along with Scott Vincent and Lori Cantor. Dean Bermester, 8th, Blandy 9th, Leish and Dietrich, 10th. And then Bjorn Helgren tied for 12th. So Matt Wolfe was, was in the. mix for a bit this week. I forgot he existed. That would have been a perfect winner for this week,
Starting point is 01:10:12 but I think Lasaso is very fitting as well. I think from a, I saw the Johnny Rombo news, Sully, that he, that he'd been playing out on Long Island. Was that last week with Jimmy Dunn? I don't know if they were at Chinnacock or one of his other 15 clubs out there, but I'm fascinated to see what the what the fall holds for John Rom. Brendan Steele indicated that he would prefer to remain at live golf. Oh, okay. Yeah, that's great. DJ got a particular kick out of that one.
Starting point is 01:10:48 He sent that one over. I was told the Live Golf Championship rings furnished by Ben Baller have not been paid for, and they were not presented this week. That was per our guy, flush. And then, Sally, you were up in arms about this one. Oklahoma City Golf Club tried to, play a six oh god this we can't have it not doing it if there's there's bad slide golf club ever something the nuclear golf was going to be all over they were they were
Starting point is 01:11:18 on top of this story but did you see hv3 punch back on this have you have you seen the updates to this yeah there was an up back on social yeah they they did the socials through an agent has made a statement on this they uh i mean bear slide golf club has a very lengthy post uh on social media i mean yeah they they were standing on business for what happened here. They said on August 18th, Harold Varner had a foursome booked on the T-sheet. When they arrived, they were 30 minutes late for their tea time and brought six total golfers. We accommodated the additional group. They were informed they could go off as two threesomes.
Starting point is 01:11:51 At the first he, they insisted they should be allowed to play the game as a six-sum. The starter informed them again, that is not allowed. After asking the starter four more times, one of the group members told the starter that he was being rude and needed to calm down. another person from the group defended the starter saying that he wasn't being rude, just enforcing the rules. Then Mr. Varner again asked the starter if they could play as a six-sum. The starter said no, but then they could ask the pro shop if they would like. Mr. Varner asked the pro shop three separate times
Starting point is 01:12:18 if they could play with the large group to which he was informed that is not allowed, especially when there is play behind them. The groups that teed off as two threesomes continue to play this way on holes one through three. When they got to the par three-fourth hole, away from the clubhouse, they joined together. Well, let's just join up, man. It's all good. one of the members of the group said they were just watching the group in front tee off which was completely untrue. Our staff watched all six tee off and put out together.
Starting point is 01:12:45 After leaving Fort Green, the group was informed that they needed to bring their carts back to the parking lot. They were told that we were funded. They were no longer welcome on the course at no time where they ever told to, quote, get the hell off the course. All of them received the refunds regarding the claim that there was nobody behind them. This is again completely untrue. there was a group on the fourth t waiting on them another group on whole three and another two groups on whole two uh blah blah blah yeah they hit back uh i don't have the the the link uh the the post that
Starting point is 01:13:12 they uh let's see if i can find it here i hope nuclear put it up they uh i think they did you clear it a busy week man i mean also fascinating that they're paying for golf you know it's on tuesday yeah could get a you know get an invite somewhere that's okay gc uh they finished dead last this week even behind the cleaks. Well, they're playing scrambles. They're not taking it seriously. Live golf of serious stuff. HV3 posted the statement by posed by Bear Slide
Starting point is 01:13:41 contained several inaccuracies. Does not fairly represent what happened. Harold and his team paid to play before teeing off. They asked whether they could play a three-on-three scramble. When they started to decline the request, they respected the decision and played at pace as two separate groups of three. The first group would complete the hole, watched the second group play into the green,
Starting point is 01:13:58 then proceed to the next hole. No point did the six golfers combine or play as a six-some. There was also no groups immediately ahead or behind them being delayed, blah, blah, blah. If there's anything that didn't happen, the most thing that has never happened was that the first group would watch them play a hole and then move on. They could almost certainly. So, Sally, just a little bit about Bear Slide. Bear Slide is one of Indiana's premier public golf courses. Golf Digest is given Bear Slide a four and a half star rating and included among the nine best in Indiana.
Starting point is 01:14:30 It's also been rated as one of the top 75 most affordable courses in the United States. It offers a Scottish link style front nine and a traditional style back nine. Bairslide Creek meanders through the back nine fairways and the course features stunning elevation changes throughout. So I can see why HV3 wanted to check it out. And listen, we take pace of place seriously. Good on them. Yeah, I stand with Bear Slide. I think who was on the, who was. was on okay gc this week do they have any replacement players or it was gooch varner cocrack and
Starting point is 01:15:05 mcdowell so i mean i'm sure cocrack what was it all in or what was what was his thing what was his tag all in yeah he's all his chips in where's jason jason cocrack going to go uh where you want to go next tc uh what else that i have i had i think that was pretty much it on that um um yeah otherwise It's LPGA. We had a national open this week. Up in Canada, it was in Edmonton. Neil at Royal Mayfair, one of the royal courses.
Starting point is 01:15:38 One of like that 66 around the world. It's still going on as we speak. Miu Yamashita is a seven-shot lead over Seyong Kim and Yuri Yoshida through with eight, seven holes to play, it looks like. Of course was kind of in tough shape. I think I heard it was lift clean in place all week. Kind of a tricky, tricky, tricky, travel stretch for the ladies.
Starting point is 01:16:02 I spent July in overseas and then they came back and they had Portland. They week off and they went Portland last week. Edmonton this week and then they go to Boston next week, which is just, I know like Lauren's a past champ. She skipped it this week. I think it's just a, it's tricky to get from Edmonton to Boston, you know, accordingly. So, but yeah, I think, you know, Solheim Cup teams are,
Starting point is 01:16:30 locked and everything so everybody's kind of knows what they need to do they're playing ahead for for CME tour championship now so is corn ferry tour over yet it is that was over earlier today they were taking it they were taking it deep this week on the corn ferry tour tc
Starting point is 01:16:48 yeah utah sagura 29 under he was from 85th to 20 23rd you've got let's see St. Neil Sandy Scott T4. Okay.
Starting point is 01:17:01 30th. Guys, you could finish 20 under and that doesn't get you a top 20. It's crazy. That's so demoralizing. You could shoot 7 under. You could shoot 69, 68 to open the week
Starting point is 01:17:19 and not make the stick around for the weekend. That was... Minus 18 is T38. Minus 17 is tied for 50th. That's insane. So my guy Tommy Morrison, Fedora 5 member, finished 77th. So we'll have to keep an eye on that. He's still sixth in the in the standings.
Starting point is 01:17:43 How bad must he have played today to shoot 76? He must have felt like he shot in 96. Yeah, that's, that's tough. This was the Kansas City one, right? Blue Hills. Yes, that's right, Kansas City. That's right. Yeah, he made a triple on his, on his,
Starting point is 01:17:58 his back nine today, the fourth hole. It's kind of one of those. He probably could have made like nine birdies in a row after that and made like $450 and moved up to three spots. I've gone from 77, 58th. Guys, I just want to make a correction. There are 64 royal courses around the world, not 66. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:18:18 Just throw that out there. And I will say I watched a good amount of the NXA this morning. Some good, Link's golf viewing. I was enjoying that. Um, links adjacent. It's a little link, but like the look and feel of it. It was like, oh man. Great dunes.
Starting point is 01:18:32 Yeah. Exactly. Caught my eye. Great dunes he got. He ruined it for every American that ever wants to build another golf course in Scotland. That, you know, he being D. D. He built all over those dunes.
Starting point is 01:18:46 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It. At Trump and Aberdeen. Is that right? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:51 Yeah. Yeah. Of course, there's a little bit to be desired. A little, manufacturer little pushed up greens little like dun donaldie kind of uh you know listen never been there just more so like it catches your eye on tv it's stunning it's stunning visually that's that's what they were going for solely on the flip side because this is this is one of the next uh i think this is next next month they're having the the irish open there i played dune bag again last week it it was so much better
Starting point is 01:19:20 than the first time that one's my heart it was like it was really good like the routing was fun the was awesome. I just, like, I truly, like, I didn't feel like, like we gave it an unfair review
Starting point is 01:19:34 the first time around. And this time around, I was like, oh, you know what? Like, yeah, good on you guys. It was,
Starting point is 01:19:39 it was great, solid. That was, I distinctly remembered being like, there's still more golf holes to play on this, like, I'm ready to be done on this golf course. So that is,
Starting point is 01:19:48 you're, you're a hard, hard endorsement to earn there. So I will definitely, definitely take your word for it. Yeah, we can do a pod later in the fall about it because it was it was essentially like I just went with it was the first golf
Starting point is 01:19:59 trip I've been on in like nine years where I haven't planned everything myself so it's very fun to just be along for the ride and we did pretty much the exact same itineries we did for for Taurus was that 2019 Taurus season four I think and yeah it was except for we played count Shabelle as well country bill is awesome that's dingle golf links but anyway we can get into that we've got Walker Cup teams were announced um i don't think any huge surprises especially on the gb and i side you got uh you got six returnees coming from cyprus um you got nile shill's donagan uh luke polter uh graham baker weaver and gree hand and then uh and then they've got you know six newbies as well so um i think the biggest
Starting point is 01:20:54 surprise was on the U.S. side with Akina making it. I think that was probably the one that was kind of the biggest head scratcher for people. But like I know, Neil, you're stoked to see Tyler Watts. I think he was a standout for you at the US NDP one, right? Yeah. And I do not see Mason Howell on this list, which I also think is interesting. I mean, Jay Lang just went on like the ultimate heater. Yes, he did. Miles Russell, Preston Stout, Ethan Fang, Ryder Cowan. Is that Kihei Akina? Yeah. Josiah Gilbert.
Starting point is 01:21:35 Stu back for more. But yeah, I mean, that's a big one that Mason Howe, you know, won the US AM last year. And, you know, I guess he's had a tough season. But I feel like with Akina, it's probably the, like, he won the, the, the Mickelson Award, which is funny. that that's the nation's top collegiate freshman who won that this this year so it's kind of an investment in the future i think of hey let's get some get some young collegiate blood in this thing so um yeah had that sally i had uh it was a tough week for good good i don't know if you saw that one yeah hard to miss yeah that was everywhere um nuclear hashtag dialogue was going it's popping yeah I don't know where to go with that one, guys. It, um, I,
Starting point is 01:22:28 I, I, I, I, they seem like, nice dudes. They, they've made a big impact on the game.
Starting point is 01:22:34 Uh, and, anything against good, good, yeah, put it that way. Yeah, we don't think we,
Starting point is 01:22:40 I don't think we're swimming in the same lane. Like, it feels a little weird to comment on, because it's kind of a competitor in some way, but it's kind of not. Like, I don't really view them as a competitor, but it's like,
Starting point is 01:22:47 I don't want to kick them while they're down as well. They had a, if you did, if you somehow missed it this past week, they had a clip from a video that was kind of an ad or a promotion for their new driver that involved them just absolutely decking a woman that was getting ready to grab the driver out of Garrett's bag and it was weird and it was off-putting and a lot of people very much didn't like it. They had issue a statement about it. Calaway issued a statement about PG-Tor had
Starting point is 01:23:13 an issue a statement about it. I don't really know what happened here other than like my like amateur or read on the situation was that they did a whole skit video on this like that was supposed to be a weird drama in some way that I do not think it was going to be very good if you ask me. It looked like it was going to be like a horror movie. Horror yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:32 You know like the happening or something which was also a horrible movie. So the fact that that's what I picked up for I was like it doesn't look it's not good. They picked up the driver and then they were possessed and then everybody just started. Seemed like it. Yeah. Yes. I think there was going to be like a parody. I don't know if there is a full video or it was going to
Starting point is 01:23:49 be and then they clipped the part where they just like deck the girl reaching for the driver and say much and it was like and that was just yeah you can't do that you can't do that on social media like you can't just like put that in front of people and give them that to comment on um so i i don't know it was it was it was not good don't get me wrong uh but i i feel like those guys also got a lot of goodwill in the bank after all the years they've been doing it that they're not I don't think that was like exactly representative of what they stand for and to the point where I know they're getting absolutely crushed. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:24:24 I feel, I feel bad for them at this point. I know it was a misstep. It was a mistake. They've owned it. Maybe the apology wasn't good enough for people. I know. The apology was what I had an issue.
Starting point is 01:24:34 Yeah. It was yeah. It was like the most mealy mouth. Yeah. I just don't understand. How does that happen? Like I don't know. Different stakeholders that has to go through.
Starting point is 01:24:43 If you're collabbing with Callaway and. We're moving fast and breaking stuff, T.C. It's crazy. Yeah. Just, yeah, I struggle to wrap my head around that one. Well, the interesting thing is they've got a PJ tour event, right? And it's, you know, cancel culture, if you want to call it that, moves quickly. James Corrigan was calling for them to, you know, the PJ tour to kick off the tour.
Starting point is 01:25:08 Cut the event. No, Corrigan said people were calling for them to kill the event. It was. And then he was the way. was the one that was calling for it. Yeah, it was, it's not, listen, don't make videos where, where you're, you know, promoting or showing violence against women, I think is a very easy, easy rule to live by.
Starting point is 01:25:34 But yeah, it was just not, not a good, not a good week for them. So, yeah. How was the NLU event at Conway Farms? Yeah, we had a great event with our friends, De Evans, scholars as well we had a ton of Evan scholars caddies out there cadding for for at the summer festival we had at Conway Farms it was awesome I mean they'd gotten so much bad weather in Chicago so much rain we were kind of warned on course conditions and things coming in and course was common I dreamed unbelievably and we we hit the jackpot on the on the two days of golf we had there and the day of the weather we got for the event was just was awesome so
Starting point is 01:26:10 how was the redo there Jackson Conry did that right it was uh it was tough it was tough it was tough. There's a lot of, a lot of heather, a lot of rough out there. It was, it was, it was, it looked like a redo ready to have some more professional golf events ready for some more tour events. It was, I was expected to be a little bit friendlier than that. I mean, it was, but like all the work they did into draining like, it was, because you go to a couple spots in the rough and you're like, oh, my, okay, that's how much it's rained here. Holy crap, but the greens rolled great, fairways rolled out. and it was great. It was a wonderful, wonderful.
Starting point is 01:26:50 I was surprised how little I remembered about it from being there nine years ago, I guess, but it was like experiencing it all for the first time that we've been back there since BMW Championship. Great event, great. We had great. A lot of our sponsors put up a ton, but we had friends from titles come out, do demonstrations and everything, had great prizes to give away and everything. So it was great.
Starting point is 01:27:08 Thank you, everyone. A lot of people traveled from well out of town to make it in for that one, and we had some of the strongest vibes. we've had at an in-person, in-person event. It was wonderful. And DJ had the Evan Scholar of the year on the bag. That's exactly right. Saul.
Starting point is 01:27:23 Saul, Galvin, who actually, you may have seen him on the BW Championship Instagram this past week as well. He got to hang with Trev and Jim Nance in the booth there. And DJ had him, I thought he had him on the bag at, yeah, he did have him on the bag for this one. That's exactly right. He had Abby on the bag. Sorry for the Evan Scholar.
Starting point is 01:27:44 I'm imitationally played on the core and ferritory this year. I had Brian Sheehan on the bag and he's my mentee, my Evan Scholar mentee. We were introduced last week and I was able to connect with him at BMW. I don't know what I'm going to mentor him on, but I'm going to do my best, man. So let's
Starting point is 01:28:03 let's get to it, Brian. He's at Missouri. Mizoo. I had a Miami University gentleman on his way. He's like literally leaving like the next day to go to Miami to start his freshman year. And I was like, it's like, man, what about what advice do I give somebody, you know, rolling it for their freshman year?
Starting point is 01:28:22 I thought, you know what I told him? It's like, call your parents. Call your parents more than I did. Just do it. Just talk to them. They're going to miss the heck out of you. And I didn't, I didn't call home enough. That was, that was my advice to an incoming freshman.
Starting point is 01:28:35 Good advice. I like that. Yeah. T.C. I just want to do a quick St. Louis rundown. First time. Last thing before we get to that is, I don't know. if you guys saw the Sean Norris penalty.
Starting point is 01:28:45 That was that was one thing that had people up in arms. He was getting into his stance. Didn't like a divot that was under his foot that had been replaced. Yeah, kicked it away. I saw that live and I thought about it. I was like, I don't think you can do that. And then I was like, well, maybe it wasn't really in the vicinity. I literally thought that in the moment.
Starting point is 01:29:03 It's on mute. And I'm like, I don't think you can do that. But maybe that was like not near the ball, so it's okay. So I'm glad to know that my instinct is correct. That's crazy. It almost ever is, too, Neil. That's the funny part. I know.
Starting point is 01:29:18 I'm operating off of pre-2019 rules. But you keep saying that like it would have been right in Twitter. And it's not. Like, you know, almost always you have it wrong on both sides of the- That's a tough one. Because if you watched it live, it was like under his back right foot. You know what I? Like, that wasn't, it wasn't like he took a practice swing.
Starting point is 01:29:36 And he just, yeah, he just kicked it out like it looked like it made me look twice. But it didn't feel a, you know. I don't know. Sometimes the rules of golf are fucking dumb. Like it didn't impact anything. You know what I'm saying? Like I can see how he would get that one wrong. Somebody flagged the actual rule. I think I bookmarked it.
Starting point is 01:29:54 Let me see where it was because it was like extremely, extremely cut and dry. Yeah, Dr. Golf Rules. That would make sense. He'll mess with Dr. Golf Rules. All right. I might have to DM Dr. Golf Rules. Get him on speed dial. He, uh, yeah, I forget.
Starting point is 01:30:08 I don't know where this is listed here on this rule. You got the AI coming out, Neil. True. USGA does. But it literally says like if the divot is replaced and like the roots are facing down in there like you can't. Yeah, the divot was like replaced.
Starting point is 01:30:22 Okay. I didn't think. I thought it was just some spare divot. It looked like it was to me grass up just sitting like a divot sitting freely on top and he was, you know, he was bugging his back foot and he just quickly kicked it away. And then like he then he reset. Like I don't think he didn't, you know,
Starting point is 01:30:37 he didn't like you do a whole reset, but he didn't hit the ball immediately. Yes. It says rule 8.1A3 prohibits improving the conditions affecting the stroke by pressing down, removing, or repositioning a divot in a divot hole, which is treated as part of the ground. Even if it is not yet attached or growing, a divot has been replaced with most of it with the roots down is in a divot hole, whether or not the divot is in the same divot hole that it came from. So, yeah, cannot cannot move it once it's been been placed into a divot hole. It's amazingly specific. I did not know the rule was that specific. People were up in arms about it, but I'm like, dude, it's just as cut and dry there.
Starting point is 01:31:16 I'm sorry, that is. Neil, going back to the rule stuff, I want you to start just putting down as many clubs as you possibly can behind your ball. I don't do that, T.C. That's not, I just get the rules wrong. It's not, it's not an active, like, I just, no, and sometimes I just mix them up, you know, but everything, I think it's understandable confusion. It's not malicious. It's not malicious. I swear to God.
Starting point is 01:31:41 I go out of my way to like We got a video coming out And you'll see a specific rule situation Where I'm like It costs me big time And I and I still don't know if I'm You know But things are moving quick
Starting point is 01:31:54 And I played it all straight And it's it's a sick situation That only I would get into It's very cool Speaking of Speaking of sick rule situations Solly in St. Louis Everybody like all anybody wanted to talk about
Starting point is 01:32:08 Was that guy that faked a hole in one Yes Oh God Which I have voiced avoided all of that. So I got like a full, I was like, somebody just tell me the story right now and it's like big local drama. It was crazy.
Starting point is 01:32:18 And it's at, it's at Nathan Carnes course, the guy that's the head of the PGA of America. Which to his credit, it sounds like they handled it. They handled it well. Yeah, really well.
Starting point is 01:32:30 But like it sounds like this guy's a habitual line steper. I thought it multiple times, but just, I mean, crazy, crazy. Like, everybody was like, oh, yeah. Like, dude, that happened like right down the street. just you know like it's like all anybody's been talking about for the last 10 days like local sports talk radio they've all been hammer on it's crazy god just the
Starting point is 01:32:53 diabolical nature of going to the course early to place a ball in the hole to fake a hole in one is just that's a level of and he had two prior two prior hole in ones where the only witness was his girlfriend or fiance oh any one like the you know hole in one pot at the club. No. And I think on this one, he was like, hey, like, we're getting married at the club. I just want you to give us a credit instead of paying this out kind of thing. Just really grimy.
Starting point is 01:33:24 Maybe they shouldn't allow them to get married at the club if you ask me. But St. Louis, generally speaking, we had a great time, man. It was, we went to Gimmie Golf Club on, is that Wednesday night now? Wednesday night. Yeah, and hung out with all those guys and, like, what Kyle and all. those guys have built there. What is it for those that are not familiar? It's like an in-town clubhouse.
Starting point is 01:33:47 You know, they got like three or four simulators and just really awesome design, like homegrown golf inclusive golf clubhouse. Bar in the back. Barbershop. Yeah, like, you know, club, like, you know, club building. Just bought a food truck out back and send that around. I mean, it's just like, it's almost like, hey, we just got like ideas and we're just
Starting point is 01:34:08 going to bring them to life. And it was, uh, it was invigorating stuff. His place was packed. You know, I think the city was really pumped up about this event. And I feel like awesome hospitality. We went to Charlie Gitos on the Hill, just old school Italian restaurant. The Hill was great. T.C., I'm glad we got up there.
Starting point is 01:34:28 And then I want to give a shout out to Will. He's the number one percussionist in the St. Louis Symphony. We've gone back and forth on some drumming stuff. And T.C. and I went toward the St. Louis. Symphony Hall and it was it was awesome he showed us put a little xylophone for us he sent me home with a new drumming pad which makes sense if you listen to the trap draw you know I'm working my rudiments so TC I've already put this bad boy into practice uh so that was that was a highlight for me um but let me ask him hundreds of dumb questions like all right like I like I've like I've no
Starting point is 01:35:03 I don't have a musical bone of my body but I appreciate the hell out of music and just yeah really really interesting like professional um viewpoint from him. We got to play St. Louis Country Club, which was awesome. I mean, the, like, epic, epic routing and, and,
Starting point is 01:35:23 Zali, some, some, some templates stuff that is unexpected, like some unexpected twists and spins on templates. Two and three are both Ballbuster par threes. Par fives were epic on the back. Just, like,
Starting point is 01:35:37 I want to, yeah, would play. That place is, is nails. I'd say bigger ballpark, but would remind you, of Camargo. I would put those two in the big fan of both those courses, and I would have a tough time doing a 10 round split between the two of them. And then they told us about this course right across the street.
Starting point is 01:36:01 There was two courses right across the street that they share a golf course. Like each of them has nine holes, and each of them has their own clubhouse. But they, like they, it's kind of like London and Levin used to be. Yeah. But yeah, they're in like really small memberships, like hyper private, but just it was kind of a fascinating, I don't know, just, I was like, wait, so both of these clubs, like there's two different clubs and they share the same course.
Starting point is 01:36:31 Like, I've never heard of that anywhere in America, right? It was a bogey club and the long, the log cabin club right, right, across the street. from St. Louis Country Club. Last shout out I gave is Ruth Park. I played there on Friday morning. Teat off like 640. So they got a little Friday game out there. So shout out to Jeff and Bobby Drummond, our captain of the St. Louis Roost.
Starting point is 01:36:56 But that was a nice nine-hole strapped type place. Big time land movement, big hills, some fun holes out there. So I feel like we explored the full spectrum of golf in St. Louis. City showed out. Listen, I know there's been some things, T.C. that you've said about St. Louis. Would you like to address those things? I don't even know what I've said about St. Louis. I've said things about Belrieve.
Starting point is 01:37:20 I'm not, you know, I think Belrieve still don't think it's a major championship venue. I think it's a fun. It's a world-class PGA tour venue. So I'll give them that good membership. St. Louis, I look forward to returning. I think the food scene was fascinating. We didn't get a chance to eat at this pizza place. Is it emo?
Starting point is 01:37:40 Imo's. Imo's. Imo's. I'mos. Emos. Which I think if you're from there, it's like comfort food, but if you're not, it's nasty. Yeah. It's like a special kind of cheese and like not marinara.
Starting point is 01:37:52 That was kind of the report I got from several people. But St. Louis to me, like it struck me as a city of neighborhoods, like very, very distinct neighborhoods. And, you know, it's just kind of a collection of those. versus, you know, there's not a lot going on downtown these days. And you've got, you know, it's, it's, everything's kind of moved out of the city. And like it used to be really, really, like they used to have a ton of Fortune 500 companies based there. Then the advertising business that kind of sprung up around that and everything. But I mean, shit, we went to the, the, uh, Anheuser Bush brewery.
Starting point is 01:38:30 They drank a lot of Bud Heavies all week. A lot of Bushlights too. Big fan. Yeah, Bushlight bottles. Yeah. Bushlight bottles. Uh, then Bud Select. I guess it's something they only.
Starting point is 01:38:39 sell in St. Louis as well. But maybe now they only, they used to be, they used to be distributed. Okay. I feel like I had that back in the day. And there's been a long, long, long time. How I would wrap us out, I don't know. Red bottles, no.
Starting point is 01:38:55 Maybe black. I didn't have any of those. I will say this, proud people. Reminds me a lot of Cincinnati, which is not, I'm probably not breaking any news there. But now I understand why you sensey boys are, you know, always trying to get, you know, shot in here, there on the best fans in baseball.
Starting point is 01:39:11 But two cities with a lot of pride. And I think I really appreciate the hospitality from St. Lunditics. But just to clarify, just to be very clear on this, the biggest fair weather baseball fans you could possibly have. In our 2022, they were the second, second highest attendance. Put this on the record.
Starting point is 01:39:30 They're 19th now because the team is not good anymore. And they, all they did was have a successful team. They're not the best fans in baseball. Where are you going to go, though, Sali? Where are you going to go? And don't bring up my team. My team sucks ass. You can't, you can't.
Starting point is 01:39:43 And we don't have good attendance. So you can't hurt me. Just you can't carry yourself with a pride that you're the best fans of baseball. We had a driver one night. 19, 19. The entire, the entire 25 minute ride, we were just naming like old Rams players.
Starting point is 01:39:58 Yeah. It was guys naming dudes. But no, I was convinced that DeAngelo Hall and Dante Hall were brothers. I was, I was mistaken on. that so you're sorely mistaken i think ozahir akim is that whom i'm thinking of the slot receiver we've reached that point in this podcast of guys naming dudes oh oh hold on wasn't he a slot receiver
Starting point is 01:40:22 for them ahs yeah azah hea keem your guy saidman bailey was in the oh yeah he was a couple weeks ago oh what he do it was not good it was uh i think he was it was some sort of public uh for vacation kind of thing. I think we're about wrapped up, I think, here today. You guys have anything else left? No, all good. Looking ahead with the tour championship on the PGA tour, the British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Fowdo at the Belfrey on the DP World Tour.
Starting point is 01:40:52 FM Championship at TBC Boston on the LPGA Tour. That's their last event before the Solheim Cup. Corn Ferry is off until the finals, which begin on September 10th. On the housekeeping front, we're going to have a podcast Tuesday. There's going to be some announcement. coming this week from the PGA tour. Brian Rillop's got a press conference 10 a.m. on Tuesday
Starting point is 01:41:13 we're going to do a live podcast 1 p.m. Eastern time Tuesday afternoon, kind of reacting to that. Catch it live if you want, catch it on your drive home, whatever, but it's going to get out into the world to talk about some changes coming. I think Brian Rolop's going to be talking about on Tuesday. So we look forward to catching up on that one. Anything else we missed? One other shout to St. Louis. All the French pronunciation. I had kneeled hot up in knots in certain spots. Does that make sense? Right up the river? That's it.
Starting point is 01:41:45 No, I think we did it tonight, Sally. Ozzie here came at eight touchdowns, by the way, on the 99 team. There you go. Great show on turf, right? Yeah, I played for the Rams for four years. So thank you, everyone, for tuning in. We'll see you on Tuesday. We'll see you on Sunday as well for our final PGA tour.
Starting point is 01:42:04 Wrap up, Recap, live show of the year. Shout to our friends at Titleist. high noon, Holderness and Born, and of course, BMW, thanks for having us out. For this week and all the support you've given for this podcast for 10 years now. This is our 10th BMW championship that we've covered. 2017 was the first one that we did. So thank you to them for the continued support, kind of wild. Conway Farms, right?
Starting point is 01:42:25 It was at Conway Farms. It's exactly right. It's exactly right. Thanks to Cody, running the ones and twos. Matt, running our socials. We'll see it back here on Tuesday. Thanks for tuning in. Cheers.
Starting point is 01:42:34 Crack on.
