Starting point is 00:00:00 Be the right club today. Ronnie, that's better than most. How about him? That is better than most. Better than most. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Laying Up live show presented, as always by our friends at Titleist PGA tour season
Starting point is 00:00:46 is in the books. I am Salli, joined by Mr. DJ Pi. Hello, DJ. Hello, Salli. Good to be with you. The champ is the champ, you know? exciting stuff, maybe not the most exciting, but it was a deserving winner.
Starting point is 00:00:59 Excited to talk about it. You're going to have to forgive our next co-host today. If he's a little distracted, we did float the idea of delaying the show a bit to see if Blocky is able to pull off the win. I know he's got it on at least one screen. TC is here. Hello, TC. Yes, I've got it on CNBC and now back on Golf Channel
Starting point is 00:01:17 after they wrapped up the trophy presentation. Blockie's kind of bottling it away right now, the bad bad boge on 13 the part five i do i'm watching on mute i just look up he's pulled the pin from a bunker like trying to hold one from the bunker i mean just he is by we we'll get there we're going to chat toward tour tour championship scotie sheffler i believe is going to get come out it's going to come up in that conversation as well we're going to dig in a little bit on the good good situation we talked about a little bit last weekend uh a lot of developments on that front uh over this past week a lot of drama unfolded there a bit on the l pGA and as mentioned we'll
Starting point is 00:01:53 come back. We're recording this here as the, the final group looks to be on the 14th hole up at the Ally Challenge presented by McClare and Scotty Sheffler wins the tour championship. Mean Joe Dean wins the British Masters by three after a final round 63. Ronnie Yin wins the FM Championship. We are in a hold. Stephen Ocker has a two-shot lead here
Starting point is 00:02:14 on the Champions Tour. This is a episode run on that as it develops. You said the ally challenge presented by McLaren, but you didn't say the British Masters presented by Husk Varna. It's the Husqvara and British Masters presented by Sir Nick Fowdo. Yes. Yeah, that's what it is. Thank you. This is brought to you by Titles,
Starting point is 00:02:34 the number one ball in golf, and once again, the number one ball this season on the PGA tour. Over the 37 events played during the 2026 FedEx Cup season, Titles was also the most played driver, the most played iron, and the most played wedge. Go to Titles.com to find a fitting near you.
Starting point is 00:02:50 I'm, yeah, just go. Just go do it. I am so excited. Ben and I have a four-ball qualifier this week. I cannot wait to put my my TTS driver into play in competition for the first time. I'm excited to go play a competitive golf. What did you shoot this week? Tell the people. I mean, it was a solo round. I did shoot a 67 this week, playing by myself in under two hours. But yeah, listen, it was an unofficial round. It was by myself. Can't enter it. T.C. Can it enter it doesn't count. It could be like Tiger's 59 an hour worth, though. That was an unofficial round, too.
Starting point is 00:03:18 And it was what it led to, you know? It's the highest that could have shot. at the tour championship, Victor Hovlin, he took a one shot leading to the final round over Ryan Girard, got run down by Scottie Sheffler, he played his first 10 holes in three under par.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Scotty then birdied the 13th hole, and bogeed 14, but Hovlin bogied the 13th as that was happening. Sheffler was back up by one there. Around this time, also some, I would consider it to be pretty darn clear footage of Victor Hovlin scraping the sand was shown on his back swing.
Starting point is 00:03:48 Mark DeWobbik from the tour came in and said we looked at this video. does not appear to us that he touched the sand. It's disgusting. You saw a lot of images that did make it look like he did. Touch the sand. If Deuce wants to make the argument that the naked eye rule, I could maybe listen to that.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Yes. I think that's what they did on Sky. But Deuce just needs to be better there. That's all I'm going to say. I would tend to agree. I don't know if, yeah, I don't know if it was a rush thing because they were, you know, there's no commercials there for that final nine holes in the tournament.
Starting point is 00:04:21 and didn't have the time to cover it properly on TV. I don't know. It was, it was tough. Anyway, Scotty would go on to Bertie 16 to go up by two. It did not factor into the final of the tournament. Though, Victor Hovlin did finish in solo second, three shots back of Scotty. Ryan Gerard finished in third at minus 12. If I was to say, that probably cost Ryan Gerard $1.3 million.
Starting point is 00:04:41 You could also say that like taking two out of the bunker also probably costs something. It may very well have. It was, we'll get to Scotty a second, I promise. but there was a moment like of, oh, is roll up? Is he this on it? Because I was screaming at the TV like, what is the point of replay if they're not going to overturn that? I was like, oh, my God, it's kind of like a real sport.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Like I do that about baseball and football all the time. Play stands on the field is called. Not conclusive evidence to overturn it. But Scotty does it, man. Does it make it looks pretty easy? Just look like the best player in the world all over again. I don't know if you guys just want to roll the kind of same combo we have after every one of these.
Starting point is 00:05:19 but third win of the year feels like about his eighth win of the year. He's the dude, man. He's the dude. It's only his third win of the year. How about that? How about that? Whoa. It's, it's, yeah, the guy that that should win wins, you know, is kind of the headline here.
Starting point is 00:05:36 I think there's plenty of, you know, the quote that stuck out to me the most this week was Victor Hovelin. And I think probably a number of other players got asked, like, if you win this week, do you see yourself winning the tour championship or do you see yourself winning the Fed? next cup and victor said the tour championship like it's it's a free for all everybody starts at zero it's just you know he's like this is very different than when i won in 2023 it's not really tethered to anything and that's kind of how it was feeling it was a very cool leaderboard with him and gerard and ludwig and uh got her up and obviously scotty like up at the top of the board it was a good golf tournament in a vacuum but it didn't like this was the definition of what i think we're trying to fix in that it didn't feel like it was laddering up to anything until scotty wins right and it's like
Starting point is 00:06:19 okay well you know what he was the player of the year he was the guy that had the best season he's the guy that strokes gained this scoring average this top fives this like he he uh it makes a lot of sense to see him up there and the way that he did it is the way that he always does it right i mean he he chipped away with the irons he nearly makes an ace on number two like maybe a lucky that didn't go in uh it was just a uh quintessentially scotty it's just funny, man. When you look at like his, his individual holes, you know, if you want to really like, if you, if you want to zoom out, you can see pretty easily
Starting point is 00:06:51 why he's the best player in the world. If you want to zoom in and actually look at the data, it's just every hole. It's just a little gain here. Little gain here. A little gain here. Oh, that one was his worst shot and it was average. Another gain here. It just stacks that up over 72 holes and it starts to look pretty inevitable.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Blockie just flagged one on 14, by the way. Dej, I'm with you in that, like, it was it was a really good tournament on its face. And then nobody played good golf. Yeah. Bad golf, yeah. It was.
Starting point is 00:07:23 And it's like, it's not an easy. There's some really tricky stuff. And we'll get to some of the course set up stuff and kind of how East Lake, you know, plays for these guys. But yeah, the guys that I thought,
Starting point is 00:07:36 you know, were dudes, didn't, didn't, they weren't very dude like today. I, I'm starting to think there might only be one dude, guys.
Starting point is 00:07:45 I think there might only... Johnny Rombo? It's not Johnny Rombo. I think Scotty might be the only dude, Sully. What would say you? So when we try to set that up... This is an amnesty box if you want to get out of the wrong. No.
Starting point is 00:07:59 No, I don't want out. I'd have a hard time believing. Again, I was trying to view this through the lens of like when we go back and do like the 94-95 stuff. Like, who were the dudes? Who are the dudes just kept doing it or there all the time? Winning or top-fiving all the time. And I'd have a hard.
Starting point is 00:08:15 time putting Rory not in that, you know, in that being a dude of this time period, right? And again, there's a whole other level that Scotty's at, but I still think there's like a next, I will say that next layer of guys as the season went on fell off and kind of refused to challenge him. I mean, Rory, Cam Young and Rom, the other guys that I said were in that class. Like, don't, if we made the list right now, would not jump to the top, you know, it's, it has, It has been a finning, if you will, of watching those guys go backwards and watch Scotty just reascend and do it again when it looked like, you know, is the rain over a little bit? We saw the bitchiest version of him we've seen all, you know, of his career so far this past year, you know, just see some weird misses on the golf course. It was a down year in strokes gain and in wins for him.
Starting point is 00:09:04 But like, he has 17, 13, 13, 20 starts this year, TC, 13 top five. I know. I tried to warn you guys. You don't have to tell T.C. invented him. You don't have to tell T.C. about this. I said we were looking at a generational talent here. In fairness, you've said that about 36 different guys. We're going to get to another one of those guys today. I think Tuesday. Solly, I'm so with you and that where I think that separation comes from and what I walked away from today, and I think maybe this gets into some of East Lake. Eastlake was playing very, very, very hard in a number of different ways this week.
Starting point is 00:09:40 and Scotty, I just don't think it's a surprise that Scotty's the guy that handles that challenge. You know, and I don't, I don't even mean this in an unfair way, but like you read some of Rory's quotes about I don't want to play more than three times in a row. I don't want to do, which all of which is Rory has earned and is fair. And I'm glad he always, you know, kind of says what's on his mind. You just don't really hear that stuff from Scotty. I feel like Scotty does such a good job of just like, man, if I'm, if I'm there, I'm going to try to, I'm going to do the same thing I always do.
Starting point is 00:10:07 I'm going to, you're going to see the same Scotty pretty much every week. you know that looks like a birdie for block is the writer he's just gonna oh my god he's who does he who's he only who's he only pointing at is he's all the seven people in the crowd let's go hurry up offense homo four holes left boys one of them apart five this episode's a special treat for everybody watching live everybody on the recording is just going to be like what the hell these guys up to. But you know what I mean? It's really the, I just
Starting point is 00:10:43 think it's his commitment, is like dedication, his mentality that, you know, and then you couple that with, oh yeah, he drives it long and straight and he hits his iron better than anybody ever almost. You know, it's just a,
Starting point is 00:10:53 and it can putt and when he does miss on these like East Lake kind of shave down short game spots, like he's flashes with the wedges and he's a great chipper. It's just, yeah, it's the same stuff every week, but it's,
Starting point is 00:11:07 that's kind of the point, right? It's like, you know, how hard it is to do the same stuff every week like that. It's really hard. And he's done it for like four years now. So a few stats, if you'll allow me. So far, he's at 170 starts in his career. About 40% of those have been top five finishes. Tiger, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:26 Tiger was right at, it was stupid. Right at 50% through the same amount of starts, which is, again, absurd. But Rory is like below 30% through the same amount of starts. Phil was like 16% through 170. 70 starts, just like just showing how ridiculous it is. He famously didn't win in any of his first 70 starts. This is win 22 in his last 100. So, you know, this part's unfair.
Starting point is 00:11:51 I'm taking a small sample, but 22 out of 100 is 22% of course. That's better than Tiger's career win percentage. Now, granted, in the same period of starts from 70 to 170, Tiger won 32 times. So, you know, that was pretty peak time. And, you know, Tiger's peak is better than Scotty's peak has been. but the rate he is winning at is absolutely completely absurd. And I don't see it slowing down. He is over a shot better per round than every golfer in the world over a three year period.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Not a small sample. Over a three year period, he is over four shots better in a tournament than every player in the world. That is completely absurd. That's a backward looking index though. Hey, I would bet he probably goes, separates it more. I see absolutely no sign of him slowing down. I mean, if this was the dip, like I think he's probably getting back to a better,
Starting point is 00:12:43 I think he'd be closer to 2025 next year saying that now than I think he would be for 2026. I was going to say he's also got, what, how were the kids? Like, he had one right around the Masters, yeah. Yeah, and two maybe. Like doing it with a couple of toddlers running around. That's even more impressive. Maybe this sounds like late night.
Starting point is 00:13:06 dorm room talk, but I always it's really hard to compare like quarterbacks to just like the guy who lives down the street from you, you know? They're not really doing the same thing. But in golf like everybody kind of is. So it's like there's like 30 million people that play golf in the United States.
Starting point is 00:13:22 He's a full stroke better than all of them. Every, all 30 million. It's not even just like the other 10 guys that are in the top. It's like, no, everybody on planet Earth. He's better than all of all of them by that much. That's wild. And next up is Rory, Prodigy, Rory, six-time major winner, career Grand Slam winner, a full shot better
Starting point is 00:13:43 over a three-year period in which Rory has won two majors and has been excellent. Roy has been excellent over the last three years. That's the time frame that spans his swing change and everything that he made. Like it's, it really is remarkable. I think just comes back to like the consistency, right? Like there's just the floor is so high. Like that average is not ever getting dragged down. It's just it's every, every time.
Starting point is 00:14:06 me tease it up. Does he lock up player of the year with this? Like is it they were certainly acting like that was the case. Was he the player of the year prior to this week? I forget what we said last week. I mean, I think we gave it to Wyndham last week. But does this change things? What we said if Wyndham, if Scotty doesn't win the tour championship, I think this reverts it back. I think so, which feels silly to say also because like, I beat that group, but you know, there's 30 guys at East Lake. Granted, it's the best 30 guys, but it's, uh, it does feel a little strange that that's it feels strange that what i just watched is is the deciding factor you know that that doesn't didn't really have kind of the the gravity feeling to it but i certainly think he is
Starting point is 00:14:48 for all the reasons that you mentioned about the season and the floor and all of that and i get the argument of you know they both had three wins and wendham has the major and scottie doesn't like being the deciding factor but if i may those two guys teeted up together in tournaments by my count 17 times this year. Okay. Here's the head-to-head how it went. Amex, Scotty, One. Phoenix, Scotty won. Pebble, Scottie one. Genesis, Scotty one. Players, Scotty won. Masters, Scotty one. RBC, Scotty, SCOTty one. Biron Nelson, Wyndham one. Scotty was third. Memorial, Windham, U.S. Open Wyndham, Traveler Scotty. Scottish Open, Windham, Open Championship, Scotty. FedEx, St. St. Jude, Scotty. BMW Championship, Tour championship, Scotty. 12 to 5 in
Starting point is 00:15:35 that they teed up this this year against each other scotty scotty beat windham that's the deal sealer for me like way more consistent didn't win the major like who's who's year would you want who's year would you like take off the board first out of everybody there's a different question like the pj tour player the year is i think totally agree yeah who would you take who's year would you take overall well who's you in that regard like if you're if scotty i think would take windham's year i think he's just like are we talking money are we talking And that's whatever. Like, what would you want?
Starting point is 00:16:07 I mean, I don't know who the U is here. But like, what's the, I mean, Rory won the Masters this year. I think that would, that would be a big ass one. Like, I think, yeah, I think if you're Ryan Gerard, I think Ryan Gerard would rather have Scotty's year. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:19 And I think if you're Rory, I think Rory would rather have Wyndham's year. That makes sense. Yeah. Or I don't think Rory would trade his year for, for Wyndham's year, though. I think we're right. Like, those are offset.
Starting point is 00:16:31 Yeah. Yeah. Everybody gets what they wants. Yeah. I mean, Scotty finishing second place five times this year is wild. Five seconds, two thirds. He missed one cut. He was 18 and 19 in cuts.
Starting point is 00:16:45 Wouldn't have missed five cuts. And a lot of those were just bad Thursdays that he was having and then just charged up the board. And he could have won the freaking Masters this year. He missed on the Masters playoff by one shot. Like he had screwed up. We don't have to get into it. He did. We can get into it.
Starting point is 00:17:03 it's all right that's all right um any uh what's the what's the hoflin conversation tonight i mean by all measures runner up the tour championship you just it off today yeah blading a blading a lob wedge into 17 and kind of fluffing the chip after that was just left a bad taste uh in everyone's mouth probably the peak viewership hour uh just not leaving not leaving everybody with a good taste in the mouth tonight 100%. It's again, in a vacuum. You move this tournament to May, and I think it becomes really interesting to talk about all the Xs and O's and blah, blah, blah. It's just really hard, man, that you're kind of, I will get around to answering your question. But you're starting the week being like, essentially admitting this system's broken, it doesn't really work and we're going to completely blow it up. And then you get to Sunday and it's like, who's going to win? It's like, who fucking cares. Like, why didn't we announce this maybe after the tournament? Anyways.
Starting point is 00:18:03 So you get to Sunday and it still kind of gets jinned up as like, you know, who's going to win the season here? And it's like, well, probably not Victor Hovlin. That doesn't make a lot of sense. You know, so just to me it was like a player that has been very spotty all year. And it clicked for the first couple rounds. Putter got hot like it did at Valspar and then, you know, kind of just fighting a swing down the stretch.
Starting point is 00:18:25 So it's, it's, it felt pretty, pretty black. and white. But again, like, you put it on that stage and it just can't help it feel a little identity list, which is kind of why it feels weird, maybe. Yeah, for a championship, not the FedEx Cup finale. Yeah. Really. I mean, Vic. Fun to see him up there. You know, fun to watch. I think this, I think this year was like a kind of stabilized what, like the free fall that he was in, more or less, right? The third in Canada, he won the travelers. played, like, had a relatively good year. So I think that's something to build on.
Starting point is 00:19:04 But yeah, with Vic, it's just, I don't know what it is, man. There's just something, like, there's just something that's just always on the edge with him. I feel like we're just gripping the steering wheel really tight, trying to, trying to get it in a house. And his putts don't ever seem to be like the right pace. Like, they're always, like, going pretty fast and he's trying to jam him in, or they just totally run out of gas and like he you know he hit a lot of lips today i think that was that was kind of you know some of those could have fallen um his bunker plays horrible i mean like really really bad and uh which is weird like i know his chipping's never been his
Starting point is 00:19:45 strength but his bunker plays just yeah and then just yeah i don't know it was you know like the shot on 17 just summed it up sallie it's like he had a great drive on an uncomfortable driving hole. He's got what lob wedge in any any, like 105 yards. He blades it over the green. Yeah. That was bizarre. So yeah. But but then again like that can come about because you've been fighting your swing all day. Totally. So weird. This is like I feel like after the tour championship in 2023, the I would say the exact opposite of what I'm about to say. But Hovlin's ceiling feels weirdly a lot lower at the end of 2026 than I would have thought at the end of 2023. You and we both, Sally.
Starting point is 00:20:26 Right. I just say he's not a, he's, he's, I don't know if we're allowed to joke about that yet, DC or that. Yeah. The floor. T.C. famously took him number one overall at our little fantasy dress, six year fantasy draft that we did at the beginning of 2024. I have an update for our points list. Congratulations on your, on your victory today. So for that one.
Starting point is 00:20:47 Yeah, I did take Scotty with the second overall pick. That worked out well for me. But his, he's raised this floor. Like, it's not like he's decreased his. quality overall as a golfer just doesn't feel like he's going to he has that ability to hit the gnaw and like blow people away and he could have used some of that today just feels like it's too fleeting yeah right it's it's tough for him to get to that to that highest level and sustain it i'm not going to make the comparison we don't need to talk about it we're not going to talk about
Starting point is 00:21:18 it but it reminds me of someone that we don't need to talk about on the tour javich of podcast I'll say, oh, they'll say to that, Dege, cheers to that. High noon, vodka,
Starting point is 00:21:27 seltzer, vodka iced tea, tequila seltzer, no matter the occasion, high noon's got something for you. What do you guys got tonight? Watermelon for me. Ice tea.
Starting point is 00:21:37 I was up with Neil up in New Jersey at the, at the shore. We were sharing some high noons yesterday last night. It's great. And then back to, back to, you know, peach IT,
Starting point is 00:21:47 iced tea, I feel like is a Georgia, you know, that's very appropriate, tour championship appropriate. It is. Pair is one of my favorites. And look, we're putting a, this is a cap on the PGA tour season. I'm not saving the pair for anything else other than tonight.
Starting point is 00:22:00 If you're looking for your next pack, check out the high noon tequila, Celts or Fiesta Pack. It has an A pack or it comes also in a bigger 12 pack if you want an grande Fiesta. All are made with real tequila, real juice, perfect for any fiesta, no matter where you plan to throw it. Find the high noon tequila, celts or fiesta pack nearest you at high noonspirits.com. High noon suns up. Solly, what did, what do you think of Eastlake?
Starting point is 00:22:23 We were kind of going back and forth a little bit on Slack earlier. I'm curious what you said you liked watching it more this year than you have in years past. I feel like I did and I was kind of, you know, I was like, oh man, am I getting heat checked here? You guys were, you know, not as high on it. I think it's not the ideal time to see Eastlake. It's August and it's usually soppier and it feel like it's usually hotter and more humid and more miserable. And it just didn't kind of similar to last week in St. Louis. I know it's hot and humid, but it didn't like permeate all like the, the,
Starting point is 00:22:56 uh, lethargic nature that comes with that didn't like come off the screen like it does in Memphis. And it just felt like there was a little bounce in the greens, some interesting pin, some really interesting shots. And it was like, I just don't know if me personally, if I've given enough love to the redo. I don't think the golf course is like amazing, but they did a lot of very nice stuff to it, add a lot of short grass, change a lot of stuff around. and made for some uncomfortable shots. I, you know, you hit into some spots.
Starting point is 00:23:23 I remember watching Godder up on Saturday, hitting the long left of the sixth hole, the par five. And he's on downslope, and he's just, like, aimed completely away from the pin and uses a backstop kicker to, like, whip the ball back towards the hole to, like 10 feet and made the birdie. And I was like, did that, that is sick. Like, that is way better to watch than just, like,
Starting point is 00:23:41 circular greens, deep rough, straightforward bunker shots all the time. And, yeah, again, it's not ideal. but it's a good it was I enjoyed it enjoyed seeing kind of some of it's like a hard whole location on three the front right whole location on three today made for some interesting shots just hovlin's ball on 17 that he finned like rolling all the way off that green and getting pretty far away was just like there's some some a fair amount of stuff about east lake especially you know it's not the slog that it used to be definitely and I think we've said that but it yeah I don't know I think It's still like, it clears the bar for me.
Starting point is 00:24:20 It would, and it would be so much better in the spring or later in the fall if that was still part of the PJ tour season. I think we know that. But they don't want to be in the spring. It's not. It's not. I know. They're like, you know what? Like, we want to be the tour championship or bust.
Starting point is 00:24:33 The fact that Tim Fincham granted them the tour championship in perpetuity is one of the most insane leadership decisions, maybe a full time. It's, so it's much better than it was. I still don't think it's. very good though. I don't think the routing is very good. I think it's it's just really really sloggy. And the energy level is never good on site. It's not, CBS did a better job this year. Like, I felt like it was more watchable. Like, I thought Saturday was actually a decent watch. I just feel like it's really tricked up too. And it like it's, it's a kind of a mediocre routing that they've had to trick up to make interesting. And like, you know, like, like 17's a good hole. 17 is a really good hole.
Starting point is 00:25:17 I think that's, it's cool, but it's just like, it's not, that's not shining through in the season ending championship, you know. That's, I think it's so, I'm very aligned with what both of you are saying. And I think it's, it's so emblematic of like what this tournament feels like. I'm like, no, it's pretty good. It's pretty good. Yeah, it's okay. You know, it's, it's solid. They made some changes.
Starting point is 00:25:39 They, they keep trying to make it better. And like, it's, you know, I think it's better than it was. It's kind of exactly how I feel about the tour championship. where I'm like, well, that might not be good enough for what it needs to be. Yeah, you know, and that's where I'm always like, I think it's the best version of kind of like what it, what it can be right now. I think it's a really good tournament golf course. I think the best player tends to win every year. Like, I don't think anybody wins there.
Starting point is 00:26:02 I know it's playing like fluky golf or getting away with it or just hiding. Yeah, no, I think it's, it identifies a really good winner. It also just, and I hate to fall back on like the easiest get out of jail free card of criticism. him, but like it just doesn't make me feel too much when I'm watching it. I don't know if anybody's watching that broadcast and it's just like, man, I wish I was there. That looks awesome. I just, I'm dying. We got to go next year. And I think if you're trying to make this the capstone of the PJ tour season and it all comes down to this, like I just think that there's some intangibles, man, that you just, it's hard to, hard to explain, but you know when you see them. And I just don't
Starting point is 00:26:39 think Eastlake has those try as they try as they might. I think that like the, I'd never played Medina number three before the renovation, but I was just remember seeing it, you know, like you had those par threes over the water and otherwise there's not a whole lot of going on and it's not really interacting with the water. I feel very similar about East Lake. Totally. It's actually a really good piece of land. It's just routed the wrong direction. Like everything's kind of routed east-west instead of north-south. And I think there could be a lot more interaction with the lake. like 15 is a good example of like you got that T-box jammed back next to the road and you have 20 buses just idling them like a few from the leaders yeah DJ you were like yeah lot E lot E we're going to turn her field lot E we're going to turner field lot E
Starting point is 00:27:29 got room for two more two more like I think the tour just just gaslighted us for 15 years of saying like no like you guys don't get it this is the tour championship this is the FedEx Cup this is really important. This is the fitting venue for it and all that. And I think I think everybody's finally realized like no, like we can do a lot better. And that's not like I don't even think that's a slight on East Lake. I think it's just, hey, let's play offense instead of yeah, tripling down on something we know isn't working. To be clear, I think it clears the bar as a PGA tour tour tour championship finale venue. Like and yeah, we had a whole podcast if you're looking for, you know, stuff on the new match play finale that's coming up. We did a podcast on Tuesday if you missed that one, kind of breaking everything down with a full reaction to that one.
Starting point is 00:28:16 But I think it's like, I don't know, not to open up a big finale discussion here, but I would say like the tour would just make the most sense if there was just one big end of year tournament that felt like the biggest PGA tour event like the players. And we're not going, we're not coming down here in August. So that's off the table. Like I'm not even like a million percent positive like a match play finale is going to feel like the tour championship. I think we can feel like you're also ignoring the elephant in the room and that like that already happens four or five times a year.
Starting point is 00:28:49 I know. It's weird. Yeah. So it's like it's almost like by default because of the last 50 years of professional golf. It's like at best, this is probably the sixth best best thing of the year. Yes. Yeah. Maybe seven. And like it all comes down to this. It's like, well, that's pretty. That's stack of it. That's weird. Yeah. So as long as you're working from the assumption like this is going to be the best PJ tour event of the year. It does change like what you're trying to get out of it. And I, I'm, Again, as we said Tuesday, I'm very happy with the direction they're going over this. And I do agree with what you said on like it does play different now after the renovation. Like there is real consequence to the shots. And yeah, it is. Just bite. It's real.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Yeah, it feels like you're watching real golf. You know, it's, yeah, it's just not, it's just not all the way there. And I don't know if it really can be at that venue. It just, it doesn't feel big. Yeah. It feels like like it feels very vast and big like the course does. But it almost, that almost sucks the energy out of it and the fans are far from the action. And it's like the buildout isn't big.
Starting point is 00:29:49 I'm not saying you need a big buildout because they're going to do the opposite thing at the, you know, match play stuff. But even just like the commercials, like that, that Accenture commercial, like the proud partners, Coca-Cola, was it, Coca-Cola Accenture and Southern Company, like, I don't think they, I just don't feel like they've gotten anything out of this over the last however many years, especially. especially Coca-Cola, like that old Coca-Cola machine. That was sick. But, you know, it's like, oh, that I just mean like when they used to give it to the winner and like, they still do. I don't know if they do or not. I haven't, yeah, I haven't seen them do that.
Starting point is 00:30:29 But that accent your commercial with the Vodafone CEO is horrible. I mean, horrible. It's like one of the top three worst commercials of the year. Competitive race this week. I know. I won't out the person if they don't want to be outed on this, but someone at our Slack was like,
Starting point is 00:30:49 over to Brian Rollout for first words. Hello, fans, we apologize for this. We are going to fix this. It was a joke somebody else came up with that I laughed very hard at. Let me ask you guys this. What do you think as the, it sounds like the tour championship at Eastlake kind of comes to an end next year?
Starting point is 00:31:08 What was the peak? Since you guys started really watching golf, off closely. What do you think the peak tour championship was or is if it's not today? I don't think it's today. The cat. I mean, the massive, but like not just because he won, but like that, talking about like vibe, like the crowd walking up 18, how many years it had been. Like, it had been a long time since he had won.
Starting point is 00:31:34 And that was just, that was something. We were at the, I think we were at the cornfairy tour, or web.com tour championship. that day, T.C. if you remember right? And we're like, oh, shit, Tiger is going to actually do it. I had to hurry home to watch that. And it felt, it felt big. It felt important. And it just hasn't felt that way.
Starting point is 00:31:55 That one's almost. That's unfair. That's like, we should take that one out. That's an outlier. But outside of that. Is it Rory beating Kevin Chappell and Ryan Moore in a playoff? No, I was kidding. I mean, Bill Haas.
Starting point is 00:32:09 Bill Haas is the water. Bill Haas. I had Jim Furick, too. Like, I couldn't tell if maybe that was, I just kind of got into media and maybe I was just a little too into it. But Jim Furic backwards hat in the rain was fun. I think Xander, when you like eat in that little two and a half footer that barely, barely went in was a weirdly good one.
Starting point is 00:32:28 But yeah, the memories aren't, aren't strong. T.C. not saying Tommy kind of says a lot here as well. For sure. Yeah, yeah, I was there. And I can't, like, I feel. like we're ganging up on it but i think the point is they've maximized what this can could be right it's it's it's they've extracted every little bit of value the floor like i think the ceiling was just so incredibly low yeah with these like yeah um i think you there's a picture of tommy with his
Starting point is 00:32:59 coke machine uh coca cola machine uh thank you cody for that uh i ping you guys with a little as opposed to a coke machine yeah you guys were getting ready to make a joke. I could hear it happening. I picked you guys with a little question of who had an interesting season, a season worthy of discussing, looking back on in some way, asking for a nomination of a positive one and a negative one. And we'll start positive like we always do. T.C., you have a season you want to shout out or somebody that made a leap in your mind or that you'll look back fondly on.
Starting point is 00:33:33 Yeah, I got three. No, you got one. And they're all near the top of the board. I'm just trying to figure out which one I want to shout out. I'll say Ryan Gerard. I think Ryan Gerard was unequivocally proved that he belongs and he needs to get better with his wedge play from today. But overall, it was, yeah, he was pretty relentless this year.
Starting point is 00:33:59 And I think he's proven that he's going to be a force to be reckoned with for the next two or three years, I think. And just seems like, you know, for what it's worth, just seems like a delightful guy. You know, I really liked the chasing Sunday stuff with him. I like, you know, kind of his going back to the open and just him getting a little bit more shine. I mean, it just seems like somebody that I'm like, I'm excited to have on my TV, which is a hard bar to clear in professional golf. He started the year rocking. He was T2 at Sony.
Starting point is 00:34:31 I was playing at World. He was second at Sony. He was T2 at American Express. And then he finished as it, you know, he lost in a playoff at the memorial. He had a couple other top tens as well, played well at the open. And then, you know, finishes it strong in the playoffs as well. I got to check my lineups, T.C. I had him in the lineup this week.
Starting point is 00:34:50 I don't see how I did. He's a, he's a fantasy favorite of mine. Always, always a good value. I think it's remarkable, too, that he's turned his putting around from being like a truly horrific putter to actually gaining strokes with him. So he I had JJ spawn this week.
Starting point is 00:35:09 I got absolutely boned. That one's tough. They got to file an injury report on this BGJT's DMs. Yeah, exactly. I love. Who's going to protect the gamblers? They need to file these injury reports.
Starting point is 00:35:22 The $15 I'm never going to see again. I love the line they, I forget who used it of like he's got to replace the grooves on his, he's got to replace his lob wedge. after this week for how many just you know how far he hits it and how he was 10 of 10 he hit his first 10 fairways today didn't miss till he got to 14 the the fairway that's almost impossible to hold um he's just a very impressive ball striker which you know the golf swing looks a little funny man but
Starting point is 00:35:46 uh i would i think we need more weird golf swings a hundred percent uh Trevor had a great breakdown too uh and yeah the side by side of him and scottie and just showing his you know, his side bend and how his head's basically parallel with the ground when he makes impact. It was just really, really good breakdown. Yeah, Solly, I'm going to, you said who kind of took the leap. I'm going to ignore that you said that because I don't think. That was not the prompt. You're right. That's not exactly how I took this, but this is a bit of a strange one, perhaps. And I think it'll lead to a larger discussion about today, maybe. I didn't realize how good Ludwig's season actually was, if you look at the numbers.
Starting point is 00:36:25 and I know he didn't win and I know maybe he has a massive closing problem but I think like the way that I've viewed him just from a zoomed out perspective I'm like oh man he took a huge step backwards and in reality like he finished in the top 10 like almost half the times he teed it up this year I think he played 20 events I think this is his ninth top 10
Starting point is 00:36:44 is worst finished the may played well the majors you know again like finished well at the majors maybe didn't play well at the majors but worse finish there was T-21 I know it's a lot of like non-competitive stuff, but if you look at the, again, maybe don't like this, maybe you do. If you look at the strokes gained over the last six months,
Starting point is 00:37:04 he's been the third best player in the world. It's kind of crazy. No, you cannot do, you're not allowed to do that. You're not allowed to look at that. I think TC is going to be, check me. He was going to be my negative. Totally.
Starting point is 00:37:17 And that's what I think is interesting. It can go either way where it's like, I would love to sit here and be like, that guy fucking sucks. And it's like, ah, he's, he plays really good every week to be kind of a shitty golfer it's just a very fascinating it's very fascinating very fascinating that said massive closing problem tz we need to talk about it i cannot cannot win but he's got i can't let's see what i saw at the players might have the big tone syndrome
Starting point is 00:37:40 going right now we have we have to go way there's a there's a nepp we did this several years ago where it was like dude i could just see him being around a lot and i just don't know how hard he's going to peak like does he have the peak weeks does he put good enough, you know, to win. Like, you just have to have out of, out of standard deviation putting weeks to win on tour. And he just doesn't seem to have, is a good putter, but doesn't seem to ever get hot, hot enough to just like slam the door.
Starting point is 00:38:09 Yeah, he ranks like, he ranks, what is he? 87th percentile. If you want some eye test, I don't like, I don't like watching him putt. I hate how it looks. I hate how rigid it look. I just, I'm out on that. 87th percentile putty. We got him in the, I think it's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Got him in the mallet now. I'm happy about that. I just, I don't think it can feel like anything except for a big disappointment. I love this year. So he's my negative one of just, you know, yes, he put himself in position in these things. And then he kicked it away when he was in position. So I think, like the, you know, the results should look a lot better. I mean, 16 of 19 cuts made seven million.
Starting point is 00:38:54 plus whatever he made today. He finished really well, but like even the, there's no seconds. There's no solo thirds. It's a lot of like T4s, T5s, T8s. So that's just not going to get it done for me. And we need to do better. There's a,
Starting point is 00:39:11 there's several of these players where I have these emotions on Sundays of like, God, I kind of want to root for this guy to win, but man, T.C. is going to be insufferable if it happens. And like that threat looms. And I will say this about like, Ludwig, the threat doesn't feel like it's looming. You know what I mean? Like when he comes up the board, I'm not like, oh, shit, here comes Lovick.
Starting point is 00:39:29 It's just kind of like, yeah, I don't think he's probably going to make it sweeter when he does turn that corner. Which, I kind of regret not making this my guy. I thought, I thought T.C. was going to take him here. But like, I feel kind of the opposite when Goder Ups up there of like, oh, he's around. He's sniffing. Like, he's a problem that's got to be dealt with here. So I could have taken Goder up here. But I think, I mean, he won three times this year.
Starting point is 00:39:50 we we we we we we saw that one we've talked a lot about him i want to give a shot it was befuddling today though it was he was just kind of off today yeah that but like he's he's got enough credit in the bank with me of like getting up near the top of the board and getting shit done like you you're not going to hit 100% of those you're going to have times where you get up the top of the board and do not have your best stuff like i don't think i i i zero points lost in my book for god are up today like that's just i was kind of impressed he was competing on that golf course to begin with But I want to give a shout to Siwukim. Siwukim has been around for a long time.
Starting point is 00:40:26 It's been a really long time since he won the players back in 2017. And he had to, like, by far the best season he's ever had. I mean, gaining almost a full shot per round on his numbers from last year was always a bad putter. He is like almost all the way up to like basically he's a 64th percentile putter now, which is a massive leap for him. hitting his iron play is reaching the 97th percentile. He had the best iron year of his career. He's a delightful guy by all accounts.
Starting point is 00:40:55 He was great in chasing Sundays. On chasing Sunday, the PGA tour thing. I feel like even after watching that, when he comes on the screen, I light up a little bit and I get excited to watch him. And he had a great hole out on 10 today. He was playing with Justin Rose. Justin Rose dunked one on nine. They were having a blast.
Starting point is 00:41:12 It was just a great, great season for Sebu Kim. Didn't have like a stamping victory on. He had zero wins. year but seven top five finishes 14 finishes uh in the in the top 20 as well uh just a i just a massively for see who and i look forward to watch him in the president's cup as well totally agree also think you could a i think everything you said about ludwig i think kind of applies to see who kim a little bit we as soon as the light started to get bright this year he looked like a different player and like none of those none of those were ultra competitive uh top five's top tens either
Starting point is 00:41:46 but I agree with everything you're saying. Yeah. A lot of other guys, I mean, again, I don't think Ludwig had a better season than like Matt Fitzpatrick, Alex Fitzpatrick. Of course. You know, like there's a lot of a lot of guys that took Bridgman, even I would put on there. Bridgman back to back toward championships for him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:06 You know, started off hot and then he was top five today. Yeah. Didn't even realize that. Cody. So it's so interesting. the everybody's individual perspectives on how they look at it. I think the biggest thing there is just how DJ views Ludwig versus how he views Siwu. And he,
Starting point is 00:42:26 you're pretty immediate like, Siwuu wasn't even close on Sundays. Neither was Ludwig. Neither was, but I, my point, I'm not trying to defend it. My point was,
Starting point is 00:42:35 I think Ludwig must have like a bunch of horrible finishes. I'm like, oh no, he doesn't. The floor is like crazy high. I think it's one of those things where like where we internally put their floor and where we think that they're ceiling. is actually at.
Starting point is 00:42:47 Because I know I'll throw this out here right now. And, Sally, we've talked about this at length, and you're going to disagree with this, but phenomenal season for Cam Young. Yeah. Like,
Starting point is 00:42:56 I don't know how you can, you, I don't know, understand how anybody could say it wasn't a, the best season of his career. Oh, yeah. Money,
Starting point is 00:43:07 strokes gained, you name it, wins, like phenomenal. Are we disappointed by this season? Hell yeah, we are. Like,
Starting point is 00:43:13 extremely disappointed. Just like, see, who I'm sure is super disappointed how well he played and like just didn't even like get close to getting a win. But man, uh,
Starting point is 00:43:24 the only other name that I think hasn't been really brought up was mentioned once is just Alex Fitzpatrick from being like the constant little brother. Hey, he's going to get like the kind of the charity case to being like, holy shit man. Like he's way better than I thought he was.
Starting point is 00:43:40 And like he's Alex Fitzpatrick. Like he's not just little fits anymore. He can stand. on his own. Totally. Yeah. Yeah. We could do this for for a long time, but really it is like you almost had to finish the season pretty hot to get a mention here. Like one name that like a season we should most definitely shout out is somebody like Matt Fitzpatrick. Like three wins this season, best season he's had on the PGA tour. On top of that, he and his wife welcomed home, his wife, Catherine, welcomed home a baby boy. It was an incredible year. And we've talked about this
Starting point is 00:44:11 throughout the season, but Arcos has really become an important part about how, Matt prepares and builds his strategy. He works closely with Eduardo Molinari using Arcos Pro Insights to understand exactly where he's gaining and losing shots, identify opportunities, build a strategy around his game. The same philosophy is really what Arcos has brought to the rest of us with the new Arcos app. I've been using it all summer. It's a completely different experience. I bet and I are going to play a four ball qualifier on Tuesday. You can just go right to that golf course.
Starting point is 00:44:41 It simulates the conditions you're going to play in on that particular date with the wind direct. and tells you how you should play the golf course, what clubs you're likely going to have in. Quick identifier I had there. It's going to be a lot of wedges. I don't need to hit a ton of seven irons on the range this week. Like it's just a really great tool. It's a great example of how some of the top players in the world
Starting point is 00:44:59 are using something like this. Tells you what to focus on. It gives you personalized practice plans, drills based on your game, your pre-round warmups, AI powered round summaries, strokes game on every individual shot. Then they got the ARCO smart laser.
Starting point is 00:45:12 It's well as well. It automatically adjust for your plays-like distance, for real time weather, wind, temperature, humidity. It's an amazing, amazing system. I've been using Arcos all year, tracking my game with Arcos Air. I love it. The air automatically tracks my shots without sensors on my clubs or having to carry my phone and then all the data feeds directly into the new Arcos app.
Starting point is 00:45:32 The developments I've seen have just been great. It's caused me to make a couple tweaks in my setup. The clubs I'm using, it's got a great tool to compare your clubs against each other and what you should take out of the bag. Cannot say enough great things about this. And you can go to Arcosgolf.com. It's A-R-C-O-S-Golf.com. promo code N-L-U-15.
Starting point is 00:45:49 We'll save you 15% on this. Phil, one of the guys I play with regularly asked me, you know, has heard me talk about it so long. He just sent me a DM saying he finally ordered it and did it and is obsessed with it. He sends me every round summary. It's awesome. It's fantastic. Arcosgolf.com promo code N-LU-15.
Starting point is 00:46:05 I'm not a big gadget guy, and this just kind of runs in the background. Like, I don't have to be a gadget guy to. It's just, it's kind of, it's this. it's almost like this little invisible hand. It's just gathering the data. And then it's really fun to look at after the round. So I've found it very, very insightful. On the flip side, just some seasons that were, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:46:29 negative is maybe the wrong word here, but just forgettable. Maybe is what I should have posed this as. It wasn't a bad season for this guy, but just mega forgettable, considering the leap he made two years ago, how often he was in discussion, We won two majors two years ago.
Starting point is 00:46:45 And I have zero memory of this guy from this year. If you told me he had been out for the last three months, I'd been like, oh, yeah, I kind of missed that news, I guess, but Sanders Schaftly. Again, not a bad season. He had 20 starts. He only had three top fives all year long, though. Like we just, we saw him have 10 top five finishes in 2024.
Starting point is 00:47:07 Obviously, he had some injury stuff in 2025, didn't get off to a great start there. And it was a struggle overall. But I was expecting a bounce back. from Zander this year to at least that level pre-20204, which again, I think we might be looking at that one as a peak and not a fluke year, but just a peak year that he might not be able to recapture, but he didn't even kind of come close to that two-strokes game level that he has kind of lived
Starting point is 00:47:29 at. Data Golf literally named like the X score. Like that's two-strokes game per round. Like the nickname was just because Zander did that for many, many years. And he felt short of it way short in 2025 and fell well short of it again in 2026. and feel like it's a problem. It's, it's, it's, iron play has definitely come down,
Starting point is 00:47:49 but really, I mean, he was like one of the best putters in the world. And it's just now he's a slightly above average putter. And he never, and he was gaining a half shot per round, uh, on the greens for a sustained four,
Starting point is 00:48:01 five year period. Like he was a very, very good putter. Just not the same quite, uh, peak. And then yeah, the iron play is definitely,
Starting point is 00:48:07 definitely taking a dip. Yeah. Yeah. No, no notes. I totally agree. Was he involved in a tournament that this, like, dumbstretched the shoot? What was it?
Starting point is 00:48:18 Was it the U.S. Open? I forget which one it was, where it was just like, you get through like 36 holes and he's kind of lingering and you're like, oh, it's time he's going to make a move. He's going to turn into Xander. And it just was big spots that he just uncharacteristically went backwards. You know, the crazy thing is he was third of the players, T9 at the Masters, T7 at the PGA, T1 at the BGA, T11 at the. the U.S. Open and T-18 at the Open Championship.
Starting point is 00:48:46 So this worst finishing a major was T-18 this year. Yeah. High floor. That's great. We're going to need just a little bit more out of him, I think. Yeah. I'll go next. This one's fairly obvious, I think.
Starting point is 00:49:00 I think he certainly would agree with this, as he said as much after Wyndham. But I will say Brooks, you know, didn't really know what to expect. So I think you were kind of on this block after the returning member program was enacted and just like, hey, don't get too excited. This guy might not be the guy that you think he is or was going back to 2018, 2019. Didn't know, I wanted to believe, you know, I thought I wanted to think he'd come in with some spite and some, some hard work. He does seem like he's working hard. He seems like he's committed. He seems like he's done and said all the right stuff. It seems like he really likes being back on the BJ tour, but the results just have not
Starting point is 00:49:38 followed, did not follow this week out there. He had one, or, uh, this year. One top 10 at the cognizant. T-13 at the players, probably his best full performance, you know, full tournament performance at the year, T-12 at the Masters in a smaller field. And then just nothing going in the second half of the season, clearly frustrated after he didn't make the playoffs. Can't make anything. Can't make anything. Can't make anything. And probably a guy that just, you know, it seems like he's been through a lot just the last couple years, certainly on the course and off the course as well, but probably needs to just shut it down and maybe re, you know, kind of get reinvigorated and fire up TGL, baby.
Starting point is 00:50:22 Oh, God, that's right. He's joining TGL. Yeah, congratulations to the people of Detroit on that one. I forgot about that. But yeah, that was just, that was disappointing. I was hoping for, hoping for better. Yeah. It's not, it's not good of golf anymore, unfortunately. As of right now, and I, I hope, it changes because it's not it was kind of worst case scenario like he's he's back but he's not involved and i do appreciate his competitive nature and he you know wants to be on the more competitive tour now and i think he has regret about how things went that's not been a secret at all but yeah next step up and i it doesn't seem like he's mailing it in to your point like he's working hard and i don't i don't know what to expect next year i wouldn't in golf like hard work doesn't
Starting point is 00:51:04 necessarily translate to success i don't know if he's got any magic left i i'm suspicious i would I would, if I was to predict next year, I would say like, flirting with that top 90 again, uh, to make it, to make the championship level for 2028. When did he come back? What,
Starting point is 00:51:23 uh, his first event this year was farmers in February. So he was there from the beginning. Um, yeah, that's a little surprising that, I don't know, I think with a good off season ahead of him and,
Starting point is 00:51:36 and, when he didn't get like a championship, He couldn't take sponsors. He didn't get all those events. Yeah, I mean, maybe that was a little harsh to be on that 90 line. He feels like if he gets a full year without all the hubbub and all that stuff, like a full off season, I think he's playing in that 50 to 70 category. I get the only pushback I would have going all the,
Starting point is 00:52:02 not to compare everybody to Scotty, but to use it as an example. It's like it's not like Brooks was ever week to week. guy ever you know he was peak for the majors guy i'm just this is all i'm going to put all my eggs in this basket and this is going to be all that matters and maybe he can i almost in a weird way i'm like maybe he can get back to being that guy because i don't think he's ever been scottie give us that yeah i'm going to show up at the byron nelson i'm going to treat it like the u.s open and they're both going to look pretty similar like i i don't i don't know if he's going to become that guy at 37 years old um but yeah i don't know he just he remains a very interesting character he you
Starting point is 00:52:39 you know, in a tour of fairly uninteresting people. I think he's one that my eye continues to be drawn to. Like, he was playing pretty good golf early on. He had the, he was top 10 down Palm Beach. A cog. T-13 at the players. T-18 at Valspar, T-12 at the mask. This is just coming across your desk.
Starting point is 00:53:00 This is still confirmed from a couple minutes ago. No, I know. No, I know, but it's just like, I just think like, like, obviously he was, he was a little banged up there. mid-season, but like, I don't know. I don't think that his, like, I, and I know what you're saying about, like, his peaks and valleys and stuff, like, where he's just on cruise control some years. But, you know, like, he's, I think even some of those years, like, he's still making
Starting point is 00:53:29 14, 15, 15, 16 cuts and playing well. He's just not winning a bunch. But it's weird, because his path, it kind of seems like his path back to being, one of the dudes is like he's going to have to figure it out at the other events, you know? Like, yeah, it just remains, remains interesting. Yeah. I mean, looking back, he was T9 at the cog, T-13 at the T-13 at the players. He, uh, am I an idiot?
Starting point is 00:54:01 This is I'm doing South the Cuff. Master's exemption. We would get five years from the, oh, I'm trying to do the math. 2023 oh kill so yeah that would have been 24 25 26 like two more years of master's exemption left is that right i mean that's that's um in british open yeah yeah so shit yeah anyways um any other notes uh from this tournament um i know tigers's reign as the career money winner on the pgat tour is uh officially over um we may need an inflation adjust leaderboard in this category
Starting point is 00:54:39 but Scottie Scottie is now the career money winner in the history of the PGA tour a couple Scottie clips we can play if you guys don't mind Let me use that in all the examples when people are like I can't compare these guys but Scotty one more money man
Starting point is 00:54:54 It's all about the money Yeah Let's play Scott a quote The clips called Scotty bitchy first You got a question on Saturday That was pretty peak bitchy Scotty here Do you feel like you're fighting something to swing off the tee, just get in a couple of bad spots? I know one missing right both days, is that something just in the head or just like early on just kind of?
Starting point is 00:55:19 I mean, there's an out-a-bounce fence on the left. It didn't really hit too bad of a shot there. And then, you know, you get a lie, which can't advance more than 80 yards. So no, I wouldn't say anything is in my head out there. Thank you, though. Next question. I'm in on that, Scotty. I know people don't like it.
Starting point is 00:55:36 I dig that. Yeah, that's good stuff, I think. You had quite a lengthy answer about setup stuff that I think is in line with a lot of discussion we've had over golf course set up over many of the years. I promise we won't get too long-witted here, but this is a longer clip here, but I thought this was really interesting and on the more thoughtful side for Mr. Sheffler. Really, really large green complexes like these and they tuck the pins very close to the edges. It's a balancing act between how much you want to bite off. And then, you know, it's like, am I going to try and squeeze it into a pin? where it's three yards off the edge.
Starting point is 00:56:10 And if I miss it on the short side, I can't get up and down. I'm going to have 15 feet coming back. And there's a lot of that out here. There's a lot of pins that are on grain changes. You know, there's certain holes where just guys are making a ton of pars, like the ninth hole. You know, the ninth hole I looked over the last few days,
Starting point is 00:56:25 and I actually asked in scoring today just because I was curious. You've seen, I think, between 87 players going through over the course of three days, you've got 79 pars. 79 pars at 87 players. It seems high to me. That seems very high. So it's almost like, I mean, let's just skip it at this point. You know, if we're all going to make par, what's the point in playing the hole, to be fair?
Starting point is 00:56:45 What did you hit? I hit a five wood today. And, you know, part of its design, part of its setup, but I actually thought it was better from the back box because you might see a few more bogeys. But, you know, I asked in scoring just out of curiosity. And, you know, it was just a ton of pars again. So I don't love stuff like that. I love seeing rewards for good shots and punishments for bad. And I think sometimes, especially when you look at these modern golf courses, they do a lot of the same stuff to the golf courses.
Starting point is 00:57:13 They make the fairways bigger. They make the greens bigger. And then in order to protect par, you know, we shove the pins up against edges. And that's why I think you see the scores get really close like they are this week. And like I said, it's a balancing act between how much do I want to bite off? Like you look at like the 17th hole yesterday was a shot where I had a good number, like the number, hit a good shot. I get a bad wind gust and all of a sudden I'm in a spot where I can't get it within. I mean, I hit an unbelievable pitch.
Starting point is 00:57:35 and I had, you know, 12, 15 feet for par. And in that moment, you're like, man, I probably shouldn't attack there. But at the same time, it's like, if you're into 15, 20 feet a lot, you know, you look at like the, what hole was it today? The 13th hole for me, you know, I'm a spot there, left side of the fairway where pins in the back of the green, you know, it's three from the back right edge, it's four from the back edge. And it's like wind swirling, you know, I'll just play a touch short of it, have a 15 footer, hit a good pot and burn the edge. and little stuff like that over the course of an event, I think it can bring people closer together. And like I said, I'm not a fan of that when it comes to set up.
Starting point is 00:58:14 Hell yes, Scott, show that to carry Haig. Yeah, seriously. Yeah, I was going to say there's a lot of familiarity. I could notice a lot of people quoting the mink this week as far as the test that was being presented. And that's what Justin was asking me earlier. She's like, why do you think this place is boring? Like, I'm just, I'm just curious.
Starting point is 00:58:38 I'm like, I'm struggling to, I'm struggling to articulate it. It's hard to explain because it seems like they're doing a lot of the right stuff. But I'm like, ah, Scotty actually explained it very, very well there. You know, it's just a lot of, you can't really force it, which should be a feature instead of a bug in pro golf. Like, you got to wait for the green lights. But at that point, you're kind of just watching people to put put up from 30 feet a lot all day. and it just isn't very dynamic, you know? And it's incredibly simple here.
Starting point is 00:59:08 You don't have to put pins three from the left, four from the back, when they have seven iron coming in instead of wedges. Yeah. That's a, he said a lot of words there that are, the setup is the way that it is because the ball goes really far. Just that simple. I mean, Scottie is 46th on tour and ball speed. He piped one with a cut, 340 down the fairway on 17,
Starting point is 00:59:31 left himself like 93 yards in today. Like, that's how setups are going to be as long as the ball goes as far. It's just that, it's just that simple. There is just, you quoted one of them, Saul, or, like, tweeted one of the videos, uh,
Starting point is 00:59:42 of, of one of the shots, Scottie hit coming down. And it's just like, there it is. A signature shot. I'm like, I was from like,
Starting point is 00:59:48 105 yards. Yeah. It was just like, just like a wedge. I don't know. It wasn't. Like, of course,
Starting point is 00:59:54 he's going to hit that close. That's, that's kind of what they do. The, uh, I saw a stat this week. I think, I think,
Starting point is 01:00:00 unfortunately, my guy Foxy bogeyed the hole number six i think he was the first guy to bogey the hole since they redid it like incredible what a feather of the cat you know i mean there was a double there this week 30 guys playing you know four rounds uh last year so 120 rounds last year and then however many this year up until i think that was the second round second or third round So, yeah, 170 guys and nobody, nobody bogey the hole yet. To Scottie's point, yeah, there was 98 part, 116 times the, the ninth hole was played, 98 pars, one eagle, four birdies, 12 bogeys and a double.
Starting point is 01:00:47 Which was like on top. 270 yard three or something like that. 260 scorecard yardage. Today it played. Today was up. 20 or something, yeah. Yeah. Yesterday.
Starting point is 01:00:57 Justin Rose, hole in one. It was like a jump scare as I was kind of. in my like commercial induced stupor a little bit and that ball just flies right into the cup. I do give them credit for for mixing up the tea. Like I think they used that that 270 box on 15 yesterday too right. And like or it was like 252 or something like that. And Gerard was was trying to just today. It was 218 today. It was up yesterday. It was 147 on Saturday. It was 155 on. Yeah, they only used the back box today on 15. Okay. Maybe I'm thinking of a different. one then but like draw like you know guys trying to jam jam four irons in instead of hitting their
Starting point is 01:01:37 seven woods like i like i i like i like i like i like i like i like long part threes once in a while because i think it totally does expose a certain part of the bag a little bit yeah now yeah nine was it played 270 uh on saturday 27 par's one birdie one bogey it's just 270 27 got to It's not long. That was a very firm green too. That one sits there and bakes out all day. God. What are we doing?
Starting point is 01:02:04 Yeah. Yeah, man, 270 part three is just not hard enough. Cody, will you apologize for Cam Young's backstopping? Yeah, that was bad. That was a bad one. Oh, he's got, not good. Not good, I agree. Don't like it, Sally.
Starting point is 01:02:21 Okay, just want to me. That's all you need. That's so much easier when I have to do that with T. It was all sorts of stuff this week. I saw Vic mashing in the rough. He was mashing behind the ball today, the rough. Scotty does that all the time.
Starting point is 01:02:36 I do think we might be overdue for some clarity on that rule. It is written pretty specifically. It's like you have, you know, the weight, you can't press the weight of the club down into the ground. Basically, it's like you got to like have the grass has to be, you almost hold it down there, but the grass has to be like pushing back on the club.
Starting point is 01:02:54 I'm paraphrasing it, but it just, it does seem like we are. He has so much tension in his arms that like there's no way that. I know. But how do you judge if they were pressing down or not is where it's like, I don't know. We might need to just clarify that. Guilty until proven innocent.
Starting point is 01:03:10 That's right. That's what we got to do out there. Stroking him. Also, if he's going to scrape the sand and they're not going to call that, then I don't think we're anywhere close to calling a mashdown penalty. Mr. Nicholas hovered, you know, these guys could, these guys could hover if they wanted to. T.C.
Starting point is 01:03:23 Did you see any trenching out there this week? I didn't. I didn't see any trenching out there. It's tougher to do on Bermuda, I think. Trenching is more of a thing. Just making sure. We can't lose sight of that battle. Real quick, if Cam Young would have won the Open Championship,
Starting point is 01:03:41 all else being equal, do you think he wins the player of the year? Players in an open. Probably. Probably. Yeah. Yeah. I just thought that was like,
Starting point is 01:03:55 It's a good question. PGA tour schedule came out this week. I would say there's almost nothing to note of it on there. Other than they misspelled championship and PGA championship. I know it ticklet's UTC, but it was pretty much exactly in line with what we were expecting. There's still some gremlins in the system. They're working that out. The Ray J, you know, it's good to see that out of the schedule.
Starting point is 01:04:20 Go by Ray J is on the calendar. DT is going to be the honorary chairman for the second time at the President's Cup at Medina upcoming. And Jim Furek has signed a multi-year deal to be Golf Channel's lead analyst for coverage of majors, signature events, championship series events, it's going to be on live from things of that nature. That's great. Not. Not NBC. Not NBC, Golf Channel.
Starting point is 01:04:45 Okay. So anything else on that front, on the tour front, on the news front. And he down the board, we didn't go ahead and kind of skip. down the board. It's a short board. It's not really a day. It's not really a down the board kind of week. Russell Henley, T4 makes a ton of money again. Rory, 63
Starting point is 01:05:06 on Saturday. You know, good, good week for him. All things considered. I think he was coming in a little rusty to all these events. Adam Scott, it was kind of tough to watch down the stretch today. He
Starting point is 01:05:22 ran out of gas. Yeah. Freddie, my son, really doesn't like Adam Scott. That's why I'm like maybe the first guy ever. That's pretty concerning. Yeah. No, otherwise, I think everything is. I would love a follow-up. What was he not?
Starting point is 01:05:38 I mean, what does it not like? Maybe we'll get him on this year program. Yeah, you'd dial a bit. I don't think he likes the long putter. No, that's fair. Yeah. Yeah. And like he doesn't, he wasn't around for the best Adam Scott memories.
Starting point is 01:05:54 Yeah. he's a traditionalist. Did you tell him that he, didn't he buy a plane back in the day? I might win him over. He did. Yeah. He did. It's a data point.
Starting point is 01:06:05 He probably doesn't have. Freddy is an appreciator, man. He loves guys with drip. You got to show him some old Adam Scott Burberry stuff. Come on, man. I thought he was a knower. Yeah. We're all entitled to one, you know.
Starting point is 01:06:19 By the way, guys. Locky is just, he's, he's bottled this dog. I turned it off. I can't watch. He had his head and hands on 17 green after he made a par. I think he's just redlining the engine to ensure. I don't know what he needs to get, you know, Rockley's goals next year.
Starting point is 01:06:41 And I think Blocky is exactly what the Champions Tour needs. T.C., I could not agree more. It used to be personality and showmanship out there with Chi Chi and Trevino and all those guys. I could not agree more. Sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off. I feel like we're like, I feel like we're missing the point of the champions tour the last couple years.
Starting point is 01:07:00 I think it's supposed to be kind of like good times and vibes, right? Like I don't think it's supposed to be like everybody's grinding their face off. I don't know. I understand how why that happens, of course, but it's, I could not,
Starting point is 01:07:14 I could not get enough. Could not get enough of the blocky clips this week. He'd point to everybody, him flinging at his clubs all over the place. It looked like Bill Murray out there. Like it was, and it's also, you're playing for his next sponsor exemption.
Starting point is 01:07:27 Yeah. Isn't it where his next meal's coming from? You know? I guarantee you the, the only people happy about this are his members at his club. Like, oh, finally we get a little bit of a break here.
Starting point is 01:07:39 You know, blocking's on the road the next couple weeks. Margarine is on somebody else, man. He loves, he loves referencing that too. He's like, yeah, you know, like where I work. A royal school.
Starting point is 01:07:49 T.C. It's so funny to see. It's so funny to see. these guys scoot scoot over to the cart too like walk over and jump into their cart you want to bring that up now well yeah i was disappointed to see that the u.s senior the u.s senior am um golf golf gotccom had had a tweet earlier that just said i think like it was like single digits of how many guys were walking versus versus riding and that pissed me off i think national championships should be right walking only like if it's a if it's a us GAA event outside of the adaptive it you are you are you are walking bottom line period point blank u.s senior open you have senior women's all those I agree with it like us senior open you do miss out on like Monty hitting a bad shot into a bunker and then like stumbling over to the cart and driving off mad it's it can't describe how funny that is but that's what I think if we have that in the in the champions tour right every week yeah yeah yeah
Starting point is 01:08:50 That was the best part about today. We're talking about that literally champs tour cuts the blocky. He's zipping across. I will put a hand up. I don't think I realize how funny the Champions Tour is. I have not watched it in years. And I watched it because of Blocky.
Starting point is 01:09:06 And there was just, God, who it was the needle. No offense. Did you see Matt Gogh getting, he got suspended? Yeah. For six months for gambling, not all events he was playing.
Starting point is 01:09:16 Trying to keep up with the youth, man. I did. I turned it on for, yeah, 10 minutes before we went up just to watch Blocky and it's like, I mean, it's guys missing two footers. It's like, there's obviously a lot of very, very good golf as well. But yeah, the yippie putts
Starting point is 01:09:29 is kind of what you're tuned in for. Yeah, somebody, you know, Blocky ripping right at the camera at a golf cart. I mean, it's like, it was very funny. If Blocky, he's got about a 12 to 15 footer on 18 to climb up into a lead, into a T2. I mean,
Starting point is 01:09:47 Alkers, Alker's just, assassinating people. It's crazy. He's in the next week. He's so good. Where are they playing next week? Hold on. Don't you dig that up?
Starting point is 01:09:59 I was going to say that... What are you been digging up, Sali? Oh, they have to Sanford International. They're going to South Dakota next week. Of course. I was trying to dig up what he takes the Black Hills. They don't even give him the projected dollar amount on, on like, the Tor media site because he's not a member.
Starting point is 01:10:16 Or like, yeah, but I think he should make like $132,000. if he tacos. Sully, you've been, you've been skirting around this thing that we got coming up.
Starting point is 01:10:24 I want you to dig in. I was going for the best collab. Best collab you could possibly have is Blockie and the champs tour. And another collab that we were excited to announce this week, Roeback and Chili's.
Starting point is 01:10:38 I got my gift card right here. Do you guys get your package? Oh, yeah. I did. I got my Chili's gift card right here. The subtle dog logo that we all love

Starting point is 01:11:39 Yeah, I was going to say Freddy's on the right side of history on this book. I do know that. Offsetting penalties. I do know that. I know the one in the airport all the time, T-C. Do those ladies handle their business in there. They are, they get you like Chili's chips and salsa. Their chips are so light.
Starting point is 01:11:59 They're so thin and light and I love their chips. I think, yeah, just, you know, I know our guy David Ruff, the D man, huge fajita guy. Massive. Yeah, so massive. Chili's great fajitas as well. So one of my second, second day with my wife. We got it.
Starting point is 01:12:18 We're good. Come on, guys. Julie, it's an American institution. I totally agree. Totally agree. I'm with you. On a completely different note. The big news of the week. So for those, I don't even know if this is the full timeline, but I'll give you a little bit of a rundown of the timeline of the Good Good situation.
Starting point is 01:12:37 I believe the video from Good Good that everyone has seen by now was posted on Friday, August 21st. It was a parody video of, I believe, the movie or the series obsession. It involved Garrett Clark, one of the founders. What's the quote you're using there? Parody. Usually parody is like tied back to the actual thing. It was just,
Starting point is 01:12:59 they said that, but I don't, I don't know. Sorry, keep going. Keep going. Anyways, the video shows him in the stage acting they're doing, hit, push, collide with a girl, stand over her and say,
Starting point is 01:13:11 do not touch my driver. It's extremely unfunny. The internet got very upset about this. good good issued a quote apology on saturday august 22nd a lot of people were not thrilled with that apology including brian rolap has made clear in his comments this past tuesday uh CEO mat kendrick he took responsibility said good good is changing its creative review process calloway ceo chip brewer explicitly stated that calloway did approve the ad before posting said the approval shouldn't have happened they're going to launch some internal external reviews uh what has happened
Starting point is 01:13:45 this past week, hours before the scheduled premiere, Golf Channel postponed the big break, Good Good, the new series they had there because a sponsor asked to have its branding removed. That was revealed to be Dix, Golf Galaxy, I believe was what that was. Dixon Golf Galaxy and eventually PJTor Superstore and Target pull all of their good, good merchandise. There was a video posted by Garrett as an eight plus minute video, kind of an explanation behind it all called it, you know, terrible concepts that he was cringing almost immediately after seeing the final product. That was not the end of the news.
Starting point is 01:14:22 Callaway terminated its three-year deal, a relationship with Good Good, effective immediately, pledged a million dollars to organizations working to prevent violence against women and support survivors. Good Good, then withdrew as title sponsor of the PGA tour event and Austin. And then eventually Golf Channel goes beyond the postponement and shelves and cancels the this season of Big Break Good Good. Not done yet. Matt Kendrick
Starting point is 01:14:49 logged on was online this past week on X the Everything app went after Calloway publicly. 39, right? Had a lot of other tweets that have since been removed. It's not loading as I'm trying to pull up this exact tweet. If somebody has the language
Starting point is 01:15:09 there, I'm trying to pull it up. But yeah, because this is the one that went nuts. Oh, you got it? Yeah. Yes. It says, interesting that Calloway Golf asks us to make an ad, then approves it,
Starting point is 01:15:22 then asks us to take the fall, then drops us in a coordinated media blitz and covers it up by giving a million dollars away, thinking everyone will be okay with it. 30 for 39 will be legendary. Which was a moment of levity and laughter in this, in this quite serious situation there. What, 3 a.m?
Starting point is 01:15:40 3.38 a.m. he claimed he was up early as well, not up late in this situation. Rising grind, baby. But talked about some legal action and some tweets, deleted that, and confirmed later that he was not serious about taking legal action against Golf Galaxy, all of this. Where do you guys want to start with this one? What's the question to be asked here?
Starting point is 01:16:00 What's the opening? DJ, you had a whole curriculum plan, right? I, man. Yeah, stay with me for a second. I feel like I thought about this so much this week. Just couldn't escape it. It was one of those like saw the ad was like, oh, that's, you know, this will probably be the same normal cycle.
Starting point is 01:16:23 And it just kind of kept going and going and going. And I just like, yeah, just kind of one of those things you can't really look away from. It was just everywhere. And I feel like I took like kind of a whole lap around the sun as this was kind of all going this week. And I feel like you can kind of break it down into I feel like there's the 101. class here, which is just like, man, what a, what a horrible ad. That was, that was awful. Like, I can't believe anybody did that. I can't, you know, Friday afternoon. We're just like, man, like, that was crazy. Oh, they finally deleted it. Yeah. We'll see what comes to this.
Starting point is 01:16:53 And it was just, it doesn't make any sense. It's not a parody because there's, it's not a joke. It's just like, it's just nothing. It's just, it's just bad. But it was kind of one of those, like, I'm sure everybody will kind of, you know, to be the normal internet cycle and everybody will kind of move on. There's bad golf content on the internet. There's bad golf content on the internet. right? Yes. 201 class kicks off and it's kind of like, wow, this is broken contained. This is like, this is really taken off. This is kind of everywhere, which I think makes a lot of sense and is very fair because if you are outside of golf, if you don't have any context on who these people are, if you're even like a little predisposed to not liking golf, needless to say, if you have any
Starting point is 01:17:34 history of domestic violence or anything in your life and you just see this 15 second thing pop up and it's like, the internet's mad about this. Do you want to, watch this 15 seconds. I don't know how you couldn't watch it and be like, what the fuck is that? Like that is, I understand, again, why people got like very, very, very mad about it and kind of how the whole spiral kicked off. And then, you know, once the brush fire starts, like, it just, it just goes. It starts showing up on CNN's Instagram or whatever. It just puts out the bat signal for kind of everybody come take a look at this thing. And when you do that from the outside looking in, like you kind of have no choice but to take it on its face.
Starting point is 01:18:11 you know and like it's not like I'm gonna let me dive into who good good good is and the fact that they started good good girls and the fact that they've been around for a while and I think you just are like let me let me watch this 15 seconds and kind of judge it on its on its merits and it's not a good 15 seconds I think that's a it's pretty easy to understand how that happened 301 class we're dropping everything everybody's pulling out we're like we're pulling the hats from the shelves we're canceling sponsorships we're canceling the big break we're pulling a TV show I think it kind of starts to be like, okay, well, like he didn't, it was a joke.
Starting point is 01:18:47 Like, he didn't actually push her down. It was a joke. It was like, then I think everybody understands that this was like a really, really dumb thing. And I don't know how you could make these guys feel any worse. And are we taking this just like a little tiny bit too far? And then the 401 class, I think, is like, wait, are people just trying to get out of these deals?
Starting point is 01:19:05 Like, why, you know, like, why did this happen so fast? What, all of this just starts to feel a little bit strange. And so it's just been a very weird, weird week. And I don't know where I totally fall out on it other than just kind of a bunch of questions and a bunch of like the same questions everybody else had. Like, how did this get made? Why does they have such a long leash to do this stuff? Why is there nobody around telling them that this is a stupid idea all the way down to just like, wow, we pulled like a whole TV show. And what happens to those people who were probably trading on like exposure from that TV show that's now not going to air?
Starting point is 01:19:39 and like all of all of that stuff so just a million questions a million uncertainties and a million just like head scratchers for me i think you had both he had kind of the the non golf crowd and then you had the core golf crowd joining up as well with the whole shrink movement and just i think people that tend to resent covid golfers who you know change the the nature of the game or the the, you know, like, I think people that aren't buying into golf as it always has been, right? And, um, and when good good is the quote unquote safe kind of vapid teeny bopper brand. And they know, and they're no longer the safe for like when, when, when there's, they kind of, they kind of use their, they lose their utility on that front, I think, right?
Starting point is 01:20:38 Yeah, I think that's, yes, I see what you're getting that. Like they're very commercialized. They did what a $45 million round of investment money. It's, you know, it's very much like, hey, this is, this is very much a commercial endeavor to sell stuff to, you know, to younger golfers, right? And then, and then that's where in your 401 class deeds, that's where I'm the, you know, I'm the conspiracy kid at, you know, at the front of the class saying, hey, do any of these kids actually have the money to purchase these drivers or, you know, or are these guys extremely hard to work with where, you know, sales weren't great and the juice wasn't worth the squeeze in year two or year three? That's possibility. That's where I'm at is
Starting point is 01:21:27 like if I want to be, if I wanted to be cynical, it's like, did, was it not going great? Did people not want to be in this business or did everybody get like the same moral conscience kind of on the On the same week, I'm like, I don't know, color me a little cynical on that, that everybody would stand up and do the right thing, so to speak. That doesn't always go that way. I don't know. It was, I see where you're getting at and that like, yeah, they're kind of supposed to be the boy band, right? Or the, you know, the pop band. And the pop band and the boy band's not supposed to come with any baggage. Right. And that's where it's like, it's just very, I don't know, not funny. It's just strange to me that it's like the first time that it's like, no, we're going to do something.
Starting point is 01:22:10 We're going to push it. It's just like, oh, wow, you guys missed. Holy smokes. That was not even close to being how you do that. And that's where it just circles all the way back to like, whoa, that's probably why there's ad agencies. That's probably why there's people who do these things, who write skits, who do all of these different things. Because I think that it just feels to me like it was just made by people who had no intent to make a statement or to, do I think they just completely whiffed and were so naive on like oh shit you guys thought that's how
Starting point is 01:22:42 you guys perceived it you know like and of course that like again you go back and watch that 15 seconds in a vacuum and it's like of course that's how people saw it it's just it's a it's just shocking man that the the the road from a inception of an idea to publish is so short and I sound like an old man here I know but I'm like I've been doing this in golf now for like almost 20 years and it's like man when I was that age you know how hard it would have been to get like an idea that me and my friends came up with pushed through to like a global billion dollar brand to like put out as a piece of marketing that that would have taken a year and a half to happen and now it's just like yeah nobody really looked at it before it went out
Starting point is 01:23:27 yeah I don't know well it's worth calling out Garrett in Garrett's explanation came from like this idea came from the good good marketing team right which is like you know Well, that was that was part of the problem with their whole apology, too, was like, hey, this doesn't represent who we are as a brand or like, you know, everything was so detached from like, no, you guys are just the dudes on. Yeah. On camera on YouTube doing this stuff. Like, you are the brand. That's who you are. You know, like you can't distance yourself from that.
Starting point is 01:23:57 Like, you should have said it was a shitty idea. Yes. I, on the flip side of that, I think we have been in the shoes. I know I personally have been in this spot. where we've been a part of something we've done that I was like, a little hesitant on or I kind of felt a little something in my stomach. I should have said something, but I did it anyways,
Starting point is 01:24:17 and we posted it. And as soon as we posted it was like, oh, this was stupid. Why did I, why didn't I say something? I should have, there's almost like,
Starting point is 01:24:23 you know, it can happen in content creation of like, yeah, I'm not really down with this idea and I don't see the vision, but like I got 50 other things going on. And somebody else was planning this out and did this whole shoot planned out. And I'm not going to be the one that shoots it all down. I can see it getting through that part.
Starting point is 01:24:39 I can't see it getting through like Callaway review and all. Like that's the part that is just absolutely insane. But I can empathize a little bit with the something going out that turned out horrible. And you wish you would have spoken up and said like I don't really want to do this or I didn't. And when you're, I guess where I'm off. I feel like I'm overly apologizing for this. But like where I also empathize like they're just, they're there shooting it and filming it.
Starting point is 01:25:03 You don't know what it's going to look like in post while you're filming it and shooting. it if somebody else is editing it. Now, you could have reviewed it and stopped it. There's no excuse for that, but like... Yeah, but the premise is like knocking and... Horrible. Yeah, stupid. I got a kick out of some of the... The premise makes sense to me if you give them all the benefit of the doubt in the world. It's just like, if you touch this driver,
Starting point is 01:25:22 you're going to be possessed and you're just going to want to hit drives. Like, I'm like, okay, that's kind of dumb, but like, I get it. I was just like, man, dog, you edited like the worst possible combination, the worst possible madlib of that idea came out in, in that at 15 seconds. And that's where it's like, that's where I'm with you,
Starting point is 01:25:39 where I'm like, oh, man, I feel pretty, that's, that's tough for the people who don't want to micromanage or didn't want to tell the editor how to do it or whatever. That's also where like, hey, this is a pretty big deal for you. You have your own driver coming out. To just nail that. Don't be that detached from your operation that you're not getting eyes on this, I think. And then also, I mean, I think Calloway's, you know, Calloway's statement, I do think Calloway needed to probably wear more of this. They've leaned hard into the good, good stuff and all of that. But I do think there's also a certain element of it is the other, you know, the other, like just the, the traditionalists within golf are basically looking for a reason to say, fuck those guys.
Starting point is 01:26:29 Like they, you know, like shrink, shrink, shrink. I hate those guys, which I think you're totally right. It felt like a powder keg that was just like enough is enough. This is the last, the last moment, which again is where it starts to go off the rails. And like I think part of the reason it, I certainly felt this at least like myself is you, you watch all this happen. And it just becomes such a weird conversation that I feel like any rational person is just like, whoa, I'm not, I'm not getting involved in that, man.
Starting point is 01:26:58 So then you just get like the two polar opposite ends of the conversation just screaming at each other, not new. That tends to happen in every issue anywhere in the world now. And I feel like it happens in golf now and it just ends up feeling like really charged as people don't don't go there all that much. Yeah. I think the other, I mean, it's kind of part and parcel with just that whole rebellion or pushback against the YouTube golf or that sort of thing. Like you're seeing it the same thing with the Grant Horvatt $200 kids clubs. well, which is like, oh, like you're, you're selling $200, like, I know he said they're not plastic, plastic kids clubs. Like, that's outrageous, man. And then he's got like the guy that he's
Starting point is 01:27:45 partnered with, you know, he's got a big like $100 bill on his wall behind him. Like, man, like, what like, all right, this is, this is a little bit too on the nose here, dude. Yeah. He's kind of the one that creeps me out a little bit. Yeah. And then you get like a subscription to something when you buy the kids clubs and it's just a there's T's that's where I'm out. You can take all you can take a lot of it away. I do agree with that. But it's not black and
Starting point is 01:28:13 white and that's where Sally I'm like on the you know feeling like you're apologizing. I'm like man I think the good good guys are all like pretty good guys. You know and I think that I think they're a net positive to golf. I don't think that they're again I don't think they're trying to make some statement. I think they just fucked up. If this was
Starting point is 01:28:29 the straw that broke the camels back on like a group of people that I thought had questionable morals and were in it for like totally wrong reasons. I could see like when I saw that video, did you guys, when you saw it, did you think they were going to lose their biggest sponsors, get pulled out of stores, no longer sponsor a PJ Toravan and like lose the big break? Well, Sally, when I feel like I've seen 50 pieces of golf content that have made me think, all right, that's the end for them.
Starting point is 01:28:53 Like they won't recover from that. And they always do. And this one didn't fit that bill for me. And that's where I'm just, but like to your point of like more to it. more to it i they're there probably all certainly has to be if you ask me because i've i've i've been in my own head about this whole thing this whole week as well of just like i just i did not see this sequence of even as of last sunday when we were recording did not see it cascading uh this way over this past week but i think it's also it comes down to like if you know regardless of
Starting point is 01:29:24 which way you choose to if you choose to own it if you choose to apologize it away you choose to push back and say no like this is why we did this whichever strategy you choose i feel like it was almost the worst of all worlds what they did where like they deleted it on because i remember sent it up to our slack and i was like you guys seen this ad this is insane and like then that jdon takes you know clipped it and and like pulled it back up and and and you know and then like they deleted it and then there was there was nothing until what, Monday, yeah,
Starting point is 01:30:01 until like Monday, you know, yeah, it was over the weekend and then, and then, but like they just kept kicking the can down the road seemingly too with like the first apology was like, oh, dude, like that ain't it.
Starting point is 01:30:13 Like that's, it had some real whiffs of like, we've been informed this is against our values. Yeah. Sort of, sort of thing, which is, which is tough.
Starting point is 01:30:23 So yeah, it's kind of a fascinating. And then, and then like, the crazy part too is then then calloway starts getting dragged by you know all the the anti-cancel culture oh well as soon as yeah now it becomes like this culture war tug-a-war and it's like it's like man good goods at the middle of i just i don't think they think anything about anything like they're they're the we're gonna just like project everything
Starting point is 01:30:50 onto those guys like oh god what a nightmare but there's there's something to like just marketing in general, right? If you don't, if you're Calloway or if you're golf galaxy or if you're whatever, if you don't want your brand next to another brand anymore, like we've seen it when athletes run into something and they don't, you know, the morals don't align or the image doesn't align anymore. You want out, you get out. Like you just don't, you know, it doesn't have to be like this specific, you know, this specific thing is unrecoverable from. It's just like if we, if we don't want to be associated with you anymore, we're out and We're going to pull the cord and do that right now.
Starting point is 01:31:26 But I don't, I think to your point, T.C. on Cali, I need to wear this more. Like, I don't see the ground they're standing on. And it's awkward to talk about that they're a former partner of ours. And we had a great experience with them. And a lot of people that we worked with there no longer work there anymore. But you approve the video and then you drop them for it feels just those two things work against each other. And it feels like, if you ask me like, where's good, good like six months from now?
Starting point is 01:31:53 I think like they're not as low as they are right now. I mean, they posted a video this week and a lot of people were watching it. A lot of people commenting negative things towards Callaway. And I think they're going to rally their audience against the people that have kind of bailed on them in some way, right or wrong for that. It's a little bit, you know. And I guess I'm just, I am surprised that the ties were cut so hard and not so quickly. That's the, it was a waterfall, like slow leak. Almost every day.
Starting point is 01:32:26 Yeah. And then it was just like, who's staying. I don't know. It's just awkward to talk about, to be honest, because it just, the whole thing bums me out, creeps me out, weirds me out. And I, I don't know. I don't, I don't think this is the end of good good. I could be wrong on that. But, yeah.
Starting point is 01:32:47 I also don't know how this world works. It gets younger than me as well. So that's what makes me awkward. And I feel like I'm much older than them, but I'm not too old to not see the value. And they're pretty inspiring to a lot of young people that want to play golf. People tune to YouTube and see them having fun playing golf. And it probably inspires people to play golf.
Starting point is 01:33:07 I think that's overall a good thing for the world of golf. Is it buggy YouTube? I think so. I've been affirmative. I don't even know who all the guys are. But that alone is like, you know, it feels like a loose alliance of like I feel like these guys are all going to be like all right good good good is the past echo brain is the thing like they're going to read it kind of it kind of feels
Starting point is 01:33:33 like the you know the the the pack 10 or the pack 12 of old like all right you know what no like we're going to break it apart we're going to team up with bryson over here this guy is that the is that the tinfoil hat theory it's like what if what if there's a live 2.0 connection here all the golfers leave live and then bryson brings in all the influencers interesting watch this i mean some of the the the tinfoil hat stuff like no this was this was this was roll up taking control totally ecosystem yeah no he's got nothing going on this week i'm sure this is what he was working on uh yeah man i don't i have so many so many questions and there are questions not not anything more than that but i don't know how the whole business works i don't know who's
Starting point is 01:34:18 who the CEO is, what the structure is. I know they're cycling dudes in and out of the bands. And yeah. They started good, good girls last year, but it's like a, it's a company more than it is just kind of like a collection of friends and invest. You've poor $50 million of investment money in that and sponsor. It just feels really messy as far as, I don't think so either. I think it's just kind of like a, it's just weird to monetize like people's personalities. as like employees of a company maybe i i don't know just is a strange strange situation
Starting point is 01:34:55 all right yeah yeah it uh yeah marketing department alone just that was spidey senses of like man we got this private equity thing going is it too much too you know too big too soon maybe i don't know it um it didn't didn't leave me feeling warm and fuzzy this week uh i know that and i don't know what's going to happen but um it'll we'll be monitoring the situation, I think. Solly, PCA just yeeded. Of course he did. Will you apologize, Dege?
Starting point is 01:35:26 No, I can't stand PCA. Did he apologize? No, my lawyer said, we do not apologize. We're not allowed to speak on him. Yeah, we got to take the 20-year view on this thing, Solly. Anyone can get hot for six months. PCA doesn't align with our brand.
Starting point is 01:35:39 Exactly. Exactly. Randy compared him to Brian Hayes on the June Seamsters. At baseball? Yeah, at baseball. That's a fortunate. he's good i respect his career
Starting point is 01:35:51 Brian a's might get canceled forgot the reds were on Sunday night and I get humiliated from national Reds are on Sunday night baseball i think they got to lead that makes more sense they should not be on nobody should nationally be subjected to that first haven't been on Sunday night baseball in years
Starting point is 01:36:09 no the reds were the only one that had not literally had not been on since whatever year maybe never like there's a there's a chart going around. Yankees 50 times Red Sox 44. Reds were literally zero. So there's not a Chase Burns versus Shota. There's not a competitive balance problem. Ronnie Yin got it done on the LPGA tour at the FM Championship TBC Boston. First win in two years. She won by two over Joju Kim. She has bad some close calls. She was running up to Chevron this year, run up in Missouho
Starting point is 01:36:40 as well. Last one came at the Maybank in October of 2024. Her sixth LPGA tour win her swing i to her swing was jumping off the screen in me i had a two screen experience going i had the sound on the tour championship so i wasn't following it uh super closely but just like she is swinging the club incredibly well right now outlasted joju kim uh at the end finally got it done i i i feel like i think randy especially has been hyping big ron run run for a while picking her a lot um missed on the majors this past year but uh is it's headed towards a strong fall it looks like up until today she would have been my pick for like most disappointed you know it's just playing good golf but not really getting a whole lot out of it and um yeah good to see her now like if only this
Starting point is 01:37:28 i feel like we've got another three months until the l pGA tour championship down in naples obviously she's not participating in the solheim cup the u.s team is it seemed like they were kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel for for captain's picks and stuff I just, I wish. Rose finished T4. This is a good course for them too. Like this is a proper, solid venue. But man, I just wish that like, and it sounds like they're on their way to making it happen,
Starting point is 01:38:00 at least partially for next year, not for 2028. But man, we just need more coherent women's schedule too because it just keeps going and going and going. Yeah, this is the last, they're off next week and then the Solheim Cup where we will be. We will be there in person coming over a little early playing a little golf filming out there as well. And then heading out to Bernardis for the Solheim Cup, September 11th through 13th. We're going to have a preview episode out early part of that week as well as live shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday from on site in Holland. So tune in for those and tune in for the Solheim Cup. It's going to be.
Starting point is 01:38:35 Solly, what's the proper, do you call it Holland? Do you call it the Netherlands? Holland's like a nickname. So, and there's North Howl. There's like seven or nine provinces in the Netherlands. There's a North. There's a North Holland and the South Holland. But it is also commonly referred to as the entire country just referred to as Holland.
Starting point is 01:38:59 More common than the Netherlands. But it's the same thing, basically. But not official name. I didn't want to get canceled by the day. No, we don't want you to get canceled. It's okay to ask questions, D.C. If you try to pronunciate some of these words, I think you will. I've tried on some of these calls.
Starting point is 01:39:13 Like pronunciate. You could miss. things up. Yeah. It's really, really hard. Like the place that we're staying, it's got it, it's the apostrophe S dash for Togun Bosch. Uh, well, there's no, there's no go Hortogun. It'd be her token, uh, was that would be how you do that or Hottogne boss. Yeah, just I would, I would, I would just, I would exit that. I would not go for that at all. Um, I think we're taking the week off from live news more people are suing them uh live and form the majority of the workforce they will be laid off this week i i truly don't think there's much more to cover uh i heard there's a whale though
Starting point is 01:39:54 you've got a whale waiting really where'd you hear that for financing oh and your guy flush did warn you that he was getting his proper piss up today uh he went to a music festival yeah and he added his personal account for his personal account he added you that you might uh i don't know if got a follow up to that one. But what is what is the source of this day? Everybody everybody from that side of the aisle is reaching out, reaching out now. I saw a lot of people tweeting about the tour championship. Like, oh, look who it is.
Starting point is 01:40:25 Ah, interesting. Our old pal flush. Oh, we're just having fun, guys, right? You guys thought we're serious about that? Yeah. You know, we spent years just trying to discredit you, your profession? Yeah. Unified this thing.
Starting point is 01:40:38 No, it's fine. It's fine. Why, you're still on that? You're still on that? He also sent a DM to Matt Kendrick, the good, good CEO. He said, send me a DM, please, or email me at the address of my profile. I'd really like to speak with you. I would just warn Matt.
Starting point is 01:40:53 DMs can be a loaded, loaded area with flush. Yeah, be careful there. Big out of this week, Bryson and Gary Player did the Break 50 challenge at Neal's Club, Roxiticus in New Jersey. I've watched most of them. I think I watched the whole thing. Was it good? I didn't watch it yet.
Starting point is 01:41:14 Tell my cue. I've never watched the Breaking 50. I had to confess. And it was just like, Bryson taking it super serious of like a TV show. And now that we've made par, we must now make three Eagles coming in to complete this challenge.
Starting point is 01:41:32 It's like to somebody that had never watched golf before. It was almost designed for it. You can shrink that. Yeah. It is what. is flush said quote I'm on the proper smash today we got the US women's midam is underway right now at Montclair as is as mentioned the US senior and Baltimore Country Club awesome it does and I think they're playing at like 5,900 yards sign me up like I
Starting point is 01:42:06 would love to go play that course of 5,900 yards I bet it would kick you in the teeth if you get out of position at all for sure they have some great content too of how many because you qualify for this thing and it's a long period in between it how many women are playing in this that are pregnant it's insane like it is four or five women i think are playing in that are pregnant in some way and just like it's just being a lot more pure competition than like the men's midam is of you know actual real full-time jobs and not just ex-pros on the women's side seems to be kind of ruling the show there surprise onica hasn't gotten reinstated yet
Starting point is 01:42:44 all right let's wrap it that's it for tonight um anything else before we wrap for the season the pj tour season did you guys watch the chasing sunday thing it did uh from from last week at bmdh it's very good i felt like it could have maybe been 20 minutes shorter it was a little long i felt like but um yeah it was it was excellent i thought i thought i think i thought four guys was was probably the right amount of guys to follow um yeah it was it was interesting you know they got lucky with Wyndham being the winner as well and being one of the participants. So, uh, I mentioned at the top, but Gerard's awesome in it, uh, his self-talk, T.C. I thought a lot of self-directed F-bobs.
Starting point is 01:43:27 Yes. The worst effing put you've ever hit. Get your head out of your ass. You're just like, you're a disgrace. Yeah, it's really good stuff. Uh, it's funny that that's where I'm like, like, oh, why do you like ride Gerard? Like, oh, yeah, I just swears it himself on the golf course. He just really hates, hates himself when he's on the golf course. that really I'm attracted to that kind of energy.
Starting point is 01:43:47 Human, maybe. Yeah, no, he was great. Foxy was great, of course. T.C.'s got a very, very mini little cameo at the very beginning as a background character in the proam, non-speaking role. But yeah, it was great. I think my main takeaway from that stuff is it's, it's hard to get up for when it feels a little sporadic, you know, and like the players one, the players feels very big.
Starting point is 01:44:12 and so it feels like kind of an event to like we're covering it in this way BMW is like it's one of three playoff events and it's a great playoff event but it's we're not doing it at the other ones kind of have it just felt a little arbitrary we'll be doing this during match play oh yeah it'd be awesome 2028 like you know the last two weeks like hey the road to whatever they end up calling the championship yeah that'd be great I also would say one man's opinion, but I think you could just scale it way, way, way back. And maybe there's a reason,
Starting point is 01:44:49 maybe there's like economies of scale where if you're gonna, you need that many cameras so you might as well cover more people anyways. But I feel like you could scale it way back and just do more of them, you know, do one or two people and just make them shorter
Starting point is 01:45:01 and do it every week or every other week or whatever. It doesn't have to try to shoot wide to get the winner or anything like that. It's just like, let's do Kepka this week, you know? Yes, I feel like it's such a hardcore golf fan sort of product anyways that it's not, I just don't think you're going to have, I don't know, maybe you'll have social moments and little pullouts and snippets that you can, you know, hook people with. But the actual YouTube video itself is going to be for pretty, pretty hardcore fans, I think. So you can probably scale it back. I think they, yeah, and I'm sure there's some limitations too because they haven't sold it yet. Right. Like they're trying to sell it to a commercial partner, whatever. But. I think another thing from this week was just the amount of hype videos coming out.
Starting point is 01:45:47 Goddraff had one. Bridgman had one. It was just very... He's so hyped. Hip-hop culture-focused with, you know, very fun juxtaposition with Bridgman. And then like cuts to the practice, you know, like the practice chipping green and he's just hitting random bunker shots out of the practice bunker. It did get me hype, though. That's so awesome.
Starting point is 01:46:12 I'm happy for you. These touch of weird nerve in me. I don't, I don't, I don't, yeah, I do. I love the Minwu Lee one,
Starting point is 01:46:23 because I feel like that's like, we're pushing Minwili's brand. But I'm like, I don't think we can do the Min Wooley thing for everybody. Because then I think we're just, I think that's true. And then it's just like, maybe,
Starting point is 01:46:33 maybe it is. Maybe it is a joke. Maybe I didn't give them credit for, you know, being self-aware. but it's very weird. It's like some big cultural statement and then like the like hardest music you've ever heard. And then it's just like here I am in the practice.
Starting point is 01:46:50 The practice bunker hitting like some shots in slow-mo is, yeah, I don't know, T.C. I've got a guy you hype. One, this is this is random tie-in, but I know not very many people have the Apple Vision Pro. It's not been the biggest selling item. But I do have one. I just sell it. No, no. he's interested.
Starting point is 01:47:11 What are we doing? No, we'll get there. Friday night, they did the first live immersive game, the baseball game. They did the Yankees Red Sox. And it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I'm putting this, I'm getting to the point where I'm putting this on the list of like,
Starting point is 01:47:29 I want to see an Apple immersive event at a PGA tour stop at the players, something like that, an immersive camera at 17 to TPC Sawgrass. I legitimately would do. describe watching it. And for those who don't know, like, it's a, it's a 3D experience, like, you wear a headset and like you are, I would describe it. Do you want us to put up the photo of you for no, not right now? I can put it back on. Cody, no pressure. I'll put it on if you want me to right now. I would literally describe it as being close, you're closer to being at the game
Starting point is 01:47:59 than you are watching it on television. Like that's, that's what it was like. It was so fucking cool. and I think it had to be very expensive to put on, but golf, golf is the ultimate sport of like where people, people want to be at the golf course. Like when you're home, you want to be like experiencing that and having that feeling. Not easy.
Starting point is 01:48:19 Maybe not east like, but like I want to see. You're not one of an immersive experience. I want to see an immersive event on the PJ tour. I think that would be, maybe Augusta is a more realistic option for that. They can afford to do that and money's not an issue. but it's it's it was shocking like extremely shockingly cool i even made my wife i was like i was
Starting point is 01:48:41 sure of the replay i'm like you got to see this i mean you could see the outline of the sunflower seeds that are spit on the on deck circle it was so freaking cool so you need to watch what you're showing your wife on those vision pros uh you can get yourself into trouble there uh as i've seen sallie i'm surprised you still have those things because i haven't heard anything about it in like two years but i will say it's been waiting for the for this moment Tech is catching up finally I know these things are not all over the place but I went out to a place called Cosm
Starting point is 01:49:12 it's like the mini What's the place called the mini sphere Basically I know there's one in Vegas and we have one or excuse me one in LA and one here in Dallas And they had the players championship there a couple years ago But I think the issue that they have is that There's so many damn cameras that you need for a golf tournament in order to make something like that happen. It would be like one or two holes.
Starting point is 01:49:37 I think you put it on like the seventh T of the level or something. That's what they did. They literally just had it at 17 at sawgrass. And you're like, you just sit, yes, and watch balls come into the green all day. That's what that would be. Seems sick until you're like, damn, maybe I'd watch something else for a little bit.
Starting point is 01:49:52 Yeah. Yeah. Can you show the picture of Sali? Do you have that? That was for private use of all. I'll put it on. If you want me to, just to see how stupid it looks.
Starting point is 01:50:03 All right. This is some pre-mo content right here. Oh, full-screen. They're still there. Don't worry. We're with you. It's really cool. Now I can't see.
Starting point is 01:50:17 Data golf actually projects this stuff up. He's actually swimming and bathing in data. Good stuff, Sally. I'm sure that was funny. I couldn't hear you. We were saying there's a data golf plug-in. which by the way I was I just seen our guy Rob ops on on Exie everything app where it's all happening
Starting point is 01:50:44 Rob said Scotty Sheffler we the week 35 OWGR Scotty 18.482 Rory's second in the world 9.096 so Scotty's more than more than doubling Rory's he's gonna break Tigers record it's crazy for consecutive weeks at number one. Injury aside. Crazy. All right. That is going to be a wrap on the PGA tour season, I guess. We'll have a ton of podcasts still coming
