Be the right club today.
That's better than most.
How about him?
That is better than most.
Better than most.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Laying Up Live show presented as
always by our friends at Titleist.
I am Salli, joined by a recovered, fully recovered, DJ Pi.
Hello, Pi, man.
On my way.
On my way.
This, whatever bug I have, man, beat me like eight and seven.
I was going to go down to the President's Cup today.
I woke up this morning.
It was like, no, no chance.
But I'm going to be excited to be there for what I hope is a historic day tomorrow.
Great to be with you, Sally.
And back with us for the first time this week.
He's been waiting in the bullpen like Christian Bazaden Hote.
Mr. Big, Randy.
Hello, Big.
How are you?
Oh, boys.
If I was any better, they'd be hauling me off to jail right now.
A little bit of a jump scare, seeing my face so big on the screen.
So apologies to the.
to the viewers.
Tell all of us feel all the time.
How tall are you, man?
That's huge.
But it's great to be here.
Enjoyed,
enjoyed the G today.
Deed,
you got to get with an earshot of this win one for the Gipper speech that may or may not be going tomorrow.
Sounds like I'm going to have a good,
a good amount of time to wiggle my way in there.
15, 20 minutes speech.
I think we can,
yeah,
interested.
We will get there.
We're into a quick react to the day,
Saturday at the President's Cup.
We're going to hear from Big.
Just overall reaction to the week so far.
I haven't heard from him.
We'll break down morning, four ball matches.
Of course, the afternoon foursomes.
By then, we'll probably have the singles matches out.
We got some Hampstradam takes in there.
You know we got it.
We got it all here.
The first couple segments here, though,
are going to be brought to you ad free by Titleist,
the Most Played Driver on the PGA tour
and the most played driver this week at Medina.
Big, where are we at?
Where are we at with the 2026 President's Cup?
up big picture what's the big story in your mind and have you been enjoying it so far uh yeah okay
let's start with the last one i did enjoy it listen i'm not going to lie to folks i you know didn't
catch a ton of live coverage Thursday Friday had some family stuff uh we were flying back late
yesterday evening so let me get that out of the way today honestly watched all i don't know it felt like
29 hours of coverage. I know it wasn't that long, but was on the couch, was locked in.
And I was really curious, the international team coming in with the lead today in a unlikely
spot, how would they respond? And I was really impressed with the medal. I thought the
internationals, you know, set themselves up, did what they had to today to experience glory,
perhaps tomorrow. I think it sets up a really fun Sunday where Team USA has to be in a real
chase position. We haven't seen that, you know, we hardly ever see that in this event. And so it just
gives it a little juice, you know. I like seeing some of the new faces. I like seeing Jackson
Coivin. I like seeing Chris Goderup. Didn't like seeing some of the stale faces. We can get into all that.
But my other big takeaway, I thought Medina was lovely. I really enjoyed,
watching the golf course, watching the guys hit shots all around the golf course.
I especially loved, you know, when NBC would show us how dramatic some of the slopes are
around the greens. I, you know, when it gets flat from the tower view, it really washes those out.
But man, there were some really interesting runoffs. The long par three is on the back.
I just found the golf course engaging, which necessitated, you know, interesting shots,
which held my attention.
I think as far as President's Cups go,
sign me up for this one.
I'm struggling to remember one.
You know,
the bar is low,
but I'm more into this one.
And perhaps it's because I took a couple of days off on the front end.
You're well rested.
Yeah.
But I really am interested to see what happens tomorrow.
I think we have a fascinating Sunday on our hands.
Yeah, I think there's, gosh,
first I just maybe shut down.
on the pod big bottom lined it on everything i was that's all that i love it i was expecting
gasoline on this u.s fire really it's just it was all you know i thought we were going to burn this thing down
tonight that's that's kind of what i was going to say so i'll start there and you know when you're
you're going to go on vacation and you look at the weather forecast and it just looks like perfect
you're like man we got such a good week ahead of us that's how i feel with the takes right now it's
just like man it's it's stacked up we've got this next year is going to be so fucking
Right? Like we could just, we could talk Ryder Cubs.
We could talk what's wrong with America.
Scotty Schaeffler, should he have sat?
I mean, it's just, it's just 10 out of 10 from a American Chadenfreude's situation.
So, so there is that.
I think there's, it's very easy.
I'm thankful very often.
I'm a victim of this very often of the narrative.
You know, and the narrative is like, is the president's cup good or bad?
Is the, do the internationals need to win or lose?
Do the Americans, competition?
or not competent, you know, blah, blah, blah.
If you, I think I did a good bit of suspending a lot of that this week,
uh, and just kind of enjoying the golf and the golf's been really good.
This morning especially was like as fun of a team session of golf as I've watched in years.
Like it was it was really, really, really great, man.
Just haymakers from both teams, big shots and big moments, great holes, risk reward.
Medina has just a million do or die moments that just make every match interesting.
I mean, I know that's like the number one kind of talking point this week,
but I just can't count how many times today where you'd see like the Ryan Fox shot
just bounding down 70 yards away from the green he just missed.
You're like, this is Medina.
That ball's rolling back to his feet.
That's Medina.
That's nuts.
And it's just, I'm giddy, man.
Thankful for it.
It's just been a great, great week.
I heard the words layup pitch because of, you know, the slope that couldn't possibly
get it too close to the, you know, they couldn't get it close to the green. Yeah, exactly. Like,
give me, give me that. That's what, that's what makes this interesting. Like, start from there.
And then we're going to see, yeah, the golf has to be interesting if you start with an interesting venue.
And then you throw in like the Washington generals might win. And it's just like,
get me to the first tee tomorrow. I can't wait. This is amazing. I'll say this too. I mean,
they did a great job, especially with a four ball setup this morning in particular. Those parts,
threes on the back nine.
We're like, day,
one of you make a par and you got a shot here.
It was like,
you know,
the most boring version of four ball was like,
yeah,
you both hit the soft green and there's kind of some long putts and maybe one guy out of four
will make one.
But like when you are like,
maybe one of you guys can launch a ball high enough in the air to hold this green.
And if you do go a little bit long to the back left hole location on 13,
like Jackson Quiven did,
it goes all the way down the slope,
you know,
and watching him.
and JT try to figure out how to get it close to that front pin and make the mistake on 16 to that front
pin because of how precise they had to be and how firm that green was and how hard that and demanding
that shot was was like credit to the tour for that one we're going to we're going to poke at the tour
for a couple of other things a little later I'm sure but they have done a great job being aggressive
with pins there was a lot of de-greening today they do a little better with the camera angles
bringing these slopes alive I think because it is really really really dramatic on some of these
screens and it is meeting the, you know, the, the rubber's meeting the road here in terms of
match play test for these guys creating an interesting scenario. So I think it was, I think it was 13 with
the Coyven match this morning where it was just four different balls. It was like, man,
do you know how far away those four balls are from each other? You know, like that never happens.
Yeah. It's always like, well, there's clearly a safe spot to just miss over here. And some of those
part threes were just like, hang on for for dear life, man. And you've got to navigate what,
what's going to happen on the ground and what's going to happen with that first bounce.
And it kept getting the firmness kind of ended up becoming a little bit of a story.
I mean, especially like you saw Russ Henley's drive on 17 in the afternoon.
It just like took off like it hit a tarmac.
I don't know where the ask the 1400 ass captains were about maybe like, hey, the course is firming up.
But neither here nor there.
It's, yeah, I don't know.
So I'm a million directions we can go.
Lots of lots of fun stuff to talk about.
Let me just throw in one more, which I know we'll get to, but something top of mind for me is the international sending five guys out for all four sessions already.
You know, it kind of reminds me of Formula One where you're trying to do the math, will they have enough gas, are the tires going to hold up?
You know, I think on a golf course like Medina where you really have to be locked in, it's demanding.
I think that could be, you know, the stamina, both physically, mentally, it could be a factor
tomorrow, which again, just toss that on the pile of things that are interesting and could be
a potential storyline tomorrow.
Which is where I think we usually see play out like there's a big international surge
and then the U.S. depth kind of just wears them down and wears them down.
And they kind of had a chance to do that in both sessions today and just didn't.
You know, like they had a, U.S. could have taken advantage of that fatigue or lack of depth or whatever.
And just didn't. They didn't get the eight points that they looked like they should have gotten.
You know, it ended up getting much less and they find themselves trailing by three going into singles.
I think trailing going to singles for the first time since 2019, which was the vaunted Royal Melbourne year.
First time leading going into singles on American soil ever.
I think the U.S. has only lost singles three times in the history of this event.
But they've never like, it never gets like crazy, crazy lopsided in singles.
I got to double check this.
I know there's been some eight fours.
But it's usually like a six, six, seven, five.
Like it's usually pretty close.
So I think we're in for a really, really, really good day tomorrow.
It, as it stands now, the internationals are minus 120 to win U.S. plus 165.
with a tie possibility at plus 700.
So, and then Data Golf has the internationals live.
I thought the internationals are at least favored at this point.
I thought they might not be still.
They improved their odds today.
They were 52%, I'm sorry, 54% to start the day.
They ended it at 58.
It did flip mid afternoon when there's a lot of red on the board in foursums that
the U.S. was, I think, as high as 58%.
And then the Henley,
Bridgman match that they
that they choked away was the flip
to put it back into the internationals.
I mean, the internationals are five points away
from winning this thing.
And you know, you go five and seven
in singles tomorrow.
And there's some guys on the U.S. side.
You can kind of target in this, again,
with this unique format of you can pick
essentially who you're putting up
some of these guys up against,
there's a few guys you can target
with some of your best players
and essentially, not guarantee, of course,
but give yourself some pretty nice,
advantages in singles and find a way to get five points. I said last night, I think the
internationals do get it done, and I maintain that. I think they are going to win this President's
Cup, which is going to be glorious. Like, it's going to be glorious and free. Truly, I know
we can maybe save some of this for if and when that happens. But Saul, I just love for you to
connect, for me, the listener, connect the, how did we get here? From Tuesday, they shouldn't
even play this because it's so embarrassing.
These guys shouldn't even show up.
It's humiliating that they're making them play this event.
One podcaster I said saw that they should play two on one.
It's just help me get from there to like obviously I think they're going to win.
What what happened?
I don't think it's obvious.
I don't think it's obvious.
I think it's the US could still win this, which would be worst case scenario because I
think it would be like, oh, we want.
We got this.
We're fine.
Let's keep doing it the way we're doing it.
But we got here.
I mean, through one of the,
Worst collapses, I can recall, and it says a lot for what this U.S. team has done here over the last
competitive race there.
Doing this, yeah.
Worst collapses imaginable here over the last two days.
I mean, they were up three to two.
They have the much better team.
Like on, you know, when it comes to Ryder Cups, the U.S. versus Europe, they usually have the
advantage on paper, but it's pretty close.
And like, there's enough evidence to say Europe should be favored in these things now based
on how they put it all together.
there was no evidence pointing to the internationals
pulling this off and making this happen
or the U.S. team performing this poorly in big moments.
I think when we look back,
there's some nitpicking we can do with Snedds.
He admitted to making some mistakes
in a post-round interview here today
didn't say exactly what they were.
But I mean, at all-time bedshitting in foursums,
they went two and six in foursums in the two sessions.
They are now eight and twenty,
in the last four team events in Foresomes.
So it's fours that's whatever you want, though.
Crooked stats.
Is Sned's good?
Is Sned's good?
Just in, like, is he good?
It doesn't seem to be doing very well.
It is not exuding a lot of confidence.
Seems a little wiped.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I don't, this isn't the format that gets you super wiped.
Like the Ryder Cup version where you're up.
super early Friday and Saturday is exhausting,
but like you get to sleep in both Thursday and Friday.
This is the only early day.
I don't know what you're doing being this way.
I know it's a busy week,
but you got to exude some kind of,
I don't know, positive energy from that spot
and it just doesn't seem to be happening.
But also like,
surrounding yourself with Gary Woodland and Kegan
and just a bunch of dudes that don't know how to win this thing.
Like what were you expecting to happen?
But no,
To answer your question, I thought the talent gap was big enough that it really didn't matter if they got all the team stuff right.
And I thought they would overwhelm him.
I thought Scotty could show up as a zombie and still win matches against players that, you know, are even close to the same caliber of him.
And that was wrong.
That was most certainly a wrong prediction there that I'm not even upset about having because I just, I know last year was bad at the Ryder Cup,
but I just did not know we could reach a level of humiliation this deep.
the, which again, I'll put my hand up and get way out in front.
It's not like I was predicting them to win or anything like that.
I was very much happy making jokes about how lopsided this event is and whatever as well.
The fact that the internationals have gotten their guys playing this good.
And again, it's what we say about Europe.
How do they get that out of Bob McIntyre?
How do they get that out of what?
Like, it's the same thing here.
How are they getting these guys to jail this way?
How are they getting all of these other things?
and then you do that with an event that is kind of like this made-up cash grab
in an event where, again, a bunch of the guys don't speak the same language,
and an event where, like, they just have all these, like, disadvantages.
And you still get them playing like that is just a massive credit to, you know,
we've shouted it out every year and we'll shout it out again tomorrow, win or lose.
But the stuff Ernie L's put into place, Trevor put into place,
Jeff Ogilvy's clearly, like, continuing.
this continuity and kind of lineage and like, hey, if we're going to do this thing, let's
fucking do it. Like, let's treat it like a real thing. Let's build like a culture. Let's make it
like each year leads to the next. And in my, I think in the back of my head, I was always like,
yeah, I mean, keep trying, man, but like, I don't think it's going to work. But it's cool that
you're giving an effort. And then you see it like this. You're just like, dude, I don't know what
else it is. Other than then, like, I don't know what else it is other than that. I don't know what
what else you give credit to.
It's amazing.
Imagine being the U.S. side and having this happen from Europe and the internationals
and being laid out right in front of you.
It still can't figure out how to do it.
That still can't do it.
Not even in the ballpark of figuring out exactly what you just described,
what the international has set up and national team has set up.
So it,
why don't the Reds take some of this?
Why aren't we the Brewers?
Why aren't we the Euros?
Yeah.
Why isn't Team USA the Brewers?
I know, man.
I can't help but think like a loss by the U.S. team and maybe an embarrassing loss.
I mean, I think any loss will be somewhat embarrassing.
But if they kind of get, you know, if they lose, I don't know, 17 and a half, 12 and a half, let's say tomorrow.
Like is that rock bottom, Sally?
Will that necessitate some real legitimate change?
because that's, I feel like that has to come into play.
And I'm almost weirdly rooting for that, you know?
Like I don't know what else is going to be a catalyst.
Like, yo, we got to make some changes here.
This is the part where the constant annual cycle of this for the U.S.
hurts them of like the Ryder Cup cycle has already started.
They've already, you know, they have the captain.
They've named assistant captains.
They have stats guys in place.
it you know Jim Fierke is an assistant captain on this team so it's not like you can't learn from this
but already wheels are too far in motion to the point where I'm like oh do I think like Justin
Leonard who's an incoming assistant captain on the next team do I think that's like part of the
solution absolutely not like not even like it's more of the same mistakes over and over again so
they you know it to your point I wish I wish the timelines worked out better that they could
do these full resets with the with the time you know they should have done it after
beth page as well though i mean and they they didn't learn the lesson then so i'm not
positive like i said this last night they could lose this and i'm still not positive they will
like wave the white flag and declare that they need some help in doing this because it is just
generation upon generation of people that have lost these events uh and that are keep keep getting
to run them and i i i'm done i know i'm done picking them for rider cut
I didn't know I had to start considering the president's cup.
That's how low we've gotten.
Which is so crazy, sorry, to draw the comparison to our beloved Reds, which we're joking about.
But, yeah, when you just lose faith altogether in the leadership and the decision makers,
like, that's the worst.
That's the worst place to be as a fan.
Which is where I was talking to guys about this a little bit before we started to.
And it's, I don't know.
Not to get too far afield here, but the U.S. is in such a weird spot with this particular event
because I think you feel it on social media or just in our podcast or whatever.
I just don't know why you would watch this and root for the U.S.
And I don't mean that as like some anti-patriot, very patriotic guy, big.
But like being patriotic, I feel like is going to like a national park or going to, you know,
I don't know, watching baseball.
Like, do lots of things.
Paying your taxes.
I don't feel patriotic watching, like, the PGA tour say that this is, you know, this is what Team USA is.
Yeah, I'm like, that is.
Guys, I think this is a made up thing.
You're not going to, like, guilt me in for God bless America in the seventh inning.
I'm like, I just want to sing, take me out to the ball game, man.
Yeah, you're not going to guilt me.
You're not going to guilt me into rooting for these guys.
But I think, like, the counterweight to that is the euros and the internationals both are just like, man, wouldn't it be great to go beat those fucking.
guys. Right. You know, like, that's such an easy, such an easy target. And I just, I'm like,
at my wits end a little bit on like, if I was the czar of Team USA, which there is no
czar of team USA, probably part of the problem. I would just struggle with like, man, I don't know
what, I don't know what you do. It's just kind of a, it's just a really weird spot right now. I don't
know how you can possibly be like, hey, guys, can you, can you care more? Please. Can anybody can, can
can you care more?
Short of just like humiliation tactics.
It's just like, great, we're not going to,
we're going to do the U.S. hockey.
We're just going to bring college players next time and get our ass kick.
I mean, I think, again, I think it would be a,
if I was named Tsar tomorrow,
I think it would be a multiple year-long process of I would contact Steve Kerr.
I would contact Coach Kay.
I would learn philosophy here of like you've taken teams that go do,
all these players that go do something.
something else every other day of the year, completely different process, and you've made them
buy in and care about Team USA basketball when they're there. And they did that through
getting the absolute 100% commitment and energy and role play of Kobe, LeBron, like all of
these superstar, megastar players that like when Kobe was out there guarding Leandro Barbosa
and diving on the floor for loose balls and giving 100% percent.
effort on defense. You're damn right, Carmelo Anthony is going to go play his role. Like,
it's really easy to fall in line when you've got superstar players bringing the energy and being
leaders, being almost playing captains. And that's what I just feel like is missing. Because like it has to
be, you got to go and it might take a year worth of meetings and time spent, but you've got to make
Scotty care to that level, which he clearly does not. And it's unfair probably at this point to
put that on Scotty because there's no one drawing that out of them. There's no,
No one.
Like, Brantznetterker all week has just talked about making sure the guys are comfortable
and they're the best players in the world.
I just got to stay out of their way.
They're savages.
And they're great guys and you're super proud of them.
I'm like, that's decidedly not it.
This tournament is different.
These tournaments are different.
You have to start treating them differently or shit like this is going to happen.
And look, you can point to the President's Cup record and say like, oh, this is pretty
convenient.
You're saying this now.
They're about to be like if they're 13, one and one in this event, like whatever.
but they're playing a massively inferior opponent that's getting worse like the talent gap is getting
wider and wider and you just i don't know how you can get much lower than this point and i don't
i still no matter how clear it becomes you don't ever hear anyone talking about the things that i just
laid out and if you guys disagree with that if anybody disagrees with that i'd like to hear the counter
to that i'd like to just hear no it's just about it's just about the golf man like they just got to
play better like i think we do hear that counter a lot
I don't know what to tell you.
And I'll say just to put a bow on that point with USA basketball,
I,
you know,
the 2004 summer Olympics,
I believe was like the disaster Olympics that you need a real embarrassment.
Like you need a true rock bottom.
You'd have to lose the Ryder Cup at home or something like that.
And your fans would have to be a disgrace.
And it would have to be really something that would never happen.
But yeah,
the problem is you have two different organizations.
running these two different uh so so there's that which is a massive problem but i i do think like i said
getting kind of embarrassed by the internationals this week might be that catalyst or it might not be
but it's a chance it's interesting yeah i'll tell you that either way i'll be here i'll be watching
and i'll be drinking uh because no matter the forecast you could live like the sun's always out with
high noon high noon is made with real vodka real tequila unlike other popular
Seltzer and hard tea brands delivering a clean finish and refreshing taste.
High noon is available in vodka, seltzer, tequila seltzer, and non-carbonated vodka iced tea,

Visit high noon spirits.com to find a high noon near you.
High noon sun's up.
You know what?
I'm trying to bring some passion tonight.
So I got passion fruit tequila here.
If I'm going to ask for some passion of these players,
I'm going to need to bring some of my own.
There you guys.
Be the change.
Be the change.
I'm a little, yeah, the Kobe thing's funny just because like, man, I don't, yeah,
I just think maybe we just don't have one of those.
I think that's probably part of the problem.
I don't know if there's like a Kobe lying in wait on that U.S. team
that's just like waiting to get woken up.
But I could be wrong there.
But Randy, I did want to ask, outside of having the JT conversation again, which is probably the closest com.
But Rainey, I did want to ask about Scotty, because this is your guy, of course.
I'm curious your thoughts on just kind of what we're, the Scotty phenomenon.
I was talking about it last, or Thursday night and saying like just how much it can't be a coincidence that him and Tiger seem to be like the only, I guess maybe Phil, a teeny tiny bit, but Phil still won a lot of these.
matches too but
they seem to be the only two that kind of suffer from this same
invincible and individual 72 whole events
and totally inept in some team events
I'm curious your your thoughts on Scotty the team golfer
yeah I mean I don't let me just preface all of this
I don't know shit for shit so but I think it is interesting
I think it's really interesting I guess if I were
kind of power ranking my own pet
hypotheses, I would probably go in this order.
End of the year.
And Scotty grinds like nobody else week after week.
When he shows up, he grinds famously like doesn't mail it in hardly ever, right?
So I think some of it, new dad, young kids, blah, blah, blah, blah.
I think there could be just be fatigue.
right now with Scotty.
My second hypothesis,
you train and you compete 51 weeks out of the year
as an individual.
And then you're thrown into this team environment
and you're just expected to not miss a beat.
And I think there's a little bit of,
I don't know, like tennis, right?
You throw the best tennis player, Carlos Alcarez.
if you throw him into a doubles environment,
it's not a guarantee that he's going to just be the best doubles player
and win all the doubles matches.
So I just think there's this.
The hell's sudden school.
Yeah, well,
I just think there's this little bit of, you know,
it's a different environment.
And it just affects,
it's a little voodoo.
It's a little woo-woo,
but I don't know what exactly is causing that,
except for there's certainly something going on.
And then my third hypothesis would be like President's Cup specifically,
and it's hard to say this about the Ryder Cup,
but just like not that important as some other things are, perhaps.
But outside of that, I don't know.
Maybe Fourth is like it's all just a big freaking coincidence,
and it's random, and this is how it's fallen out.
But I guess those were all the things I was thinking about today as I pondered that question.
And so I don't know how those different hypotheses find you.
I love that I'm equally confused.
I don't know the answer.
It's fascinating to me.
I think it's one of the most interesting things going in golf right now.
And I look at it.
I'm just like, man, you put Nick Taylor and Scotty Sheffler in the middle of the same
fairway right now with the president's cup on the line tomorrow.
I'm like, who do I think is going to hit a better shot?
I'm like, I don't know if you want the answer to that question, but like, I'm not
ready for that.
He's not a better golfer than Scotty Sheffler.
Like, Ian Polder's not a better golver than Tiger Woods.
How does this stuff happen?
And I think it's like this weird, I don't know, maybe this is a leap, but I know, Randy, I
know you're on this block with me.
All pro sports have just gotten like so fucking optimized and so just everything has to,
Everything is like getting compressed and compressed and compressed to the pure essence of like,
how do you squeeze out one millimeter more than the other person?
And I just love that team golf at least seems like one spot where I'm just like, man,
can't put my finger on that.
That's crazy.
That guy just, I think that guy just wants it more.
I don't, I don't know.
I don't know what to say.
I know he's better than him, but he keeps beating his ass is like, I don't know,
but that's kind of the reason to watch, I think.
And so, Scotty, I'm sorry.
you're a victim of that but that's uh god it's kind of one of the great things i think we got we got
going if you if you look at it right and that's where the the sentiment i've heard is like you know
people keep saying like scottie's a marathon runner this isn't a marathon it's like okay yes you
you run a certain pace when you run a marathon but like scottie signed up for like a 200 meter
relay like he that's you don't just show up to the 200 meter relay and run your marathon pay it's a
different race you're playing different games you're playing different games
here. Like you've got the number. Like you're running the rate. Like you're going to do it.
Like you might as well treat it differently. And that's where like we've seen bad rider cups from
Roy McElroy. We've seen bad rider cups from Justin Rose. We've seen like these these lions,
these great men that have put up these great rider cups. We've seen that dip. But never at any point
in any of their worst moments of these team events, has it, have they looked disinterested?
Have they looked like you like has it ever felt reasonable?
to question their motivation and their intensity
and their dedication to the event.
Like not once.
And again, that can sometimes feel unfair
and it still might be unfair with Scotty.
But it's at least a part of the conversation
that we are questioning his intensity,
his preparedness,
and his enthusiasm to not lose,
to be like, you're not fucking taking this from me.
At no point when I watch him in these team events,
do I feel that emanating from the screen?
Fair or not?
I do not feel that.
Yeah, I might slightly disagree.
I don't think I'm on the questioning his preparedness or does he want it or I think we saw
in 15 this morning when he made that put and he reacted like he'd won him.
Like that's what he looks like when he wins majors.
Like he was like fired the fuck up to finally see a put go in.
I don't think he's faking that.
I don't think he like I think his super, my theory, I think his superpower is he's the best
golfer in the world at not caring about results.
and this is the one, like, that's why he, every week just goes right off his back.
And that's why he tends to win a lot of 72 whole stroke play events.
I want to be clear, my take is not that he's not like cheering loud enough, though.
Like, that was the first moment he had and he let out a big fist bump.
That's great.
But like, I don't see him channeling that energy into other moments is my other point.
But I think that's maybe just not how he's wired.
Like, I think he, I guess that's what I'm saying is like, I think he's, his superpowers like being even key.
and sometimes he freaks out and, you know, he gets bitchy if he's, you know,
misses a bunch of short putts or something.
But like, by and large, man, he's pretty, even when he loses, he's pretty like,
ah, well, you know, didn't go my way this week.
I guess we'll get him next week.
And I think that just doesn't play on a week like this externally.
But I think like that's kind of why he is who he is.
And I just, I don't know.
Again, I have way more questions than answers.
I just find it fascinating.
I mean he's got to be pressing a little bit at this point right like he knows what his record is so there there has to be some of that I wonder if too
he's free to express himself and be as bitchy as he wants in stroke play events and I wonder if he's got to put on that happy face and be the good teammate these weeks
uh it shouldn't derail you to the point you know that that we see scottie schephler but
I love that we can have this debate, Dege, to your original point, I love that we have this
can have this debate. I love that we can't put our finger on exactly what the reason is.
You know, there's still some room in sports to just, you know, who knows? That's the fun of,
that's the fun of having this discussion. I know. There's just so many weeks that are like,
well, that guy hit two more greens and he made three more puts. And I guess that's why he won.
Move on to, on to, you know, Houston. And this is one that I'm just like, man, I've, I've
could talk about this for three hours.
This is like,
we're not even talking about golf anymore, big guy.
This is where we're talking about everything.
This is the good stuff.
It,
it,
I,
I said this on X as today as well.
I just like,
I wonder if this is a wake up call in terms of like,
you're,
you got benched at a home president's cup,
like for,
for how you've played.
And like,
if that,
if that's not a wake up call for these team events,
I don't know what would be.
I mean,
Tom Kins,
your buddy played played every match
Wyndham Clark got the call to go play
every match Sam Burns your partner
and to be glad they won their match this morning
but Sam Burns carried that match
completely Scotty was the second worst
American this morning only to JT
who had a disaster of a morning
so it's where it's like did you guys think the benching
was justified and fair
for the afternoon because
by the end of that match
I was wondering like I don't know
how you send him back out
in his current state
God. The put on 15 didn't override what I saw with the rest of it.
It's so hard. I mean, it's like, I don't know how the timelines shake out, so it's very possible.
They had to lock all these pairings before this happened, but it did seem like 15 happens.
Sam stuffs it on 16, 17. Like, it finally was like, oh, dude, they finally got some like good momentum.
Like he started to look like himself a little bit more on that back nine. And it's like, I,
still would take my chances on Scotty Sheffler, who's bad in team golf, than I would on
anybody else, like, on planet. So it was kind of a coin flip for me, I feel like. I didn't hate it,
but I'm also like, I don't think anybody would have been like, why are you sending Scotty back
out? You know, so it's, it's kind of an interesting, like, put your name on a take there from
Snedeker, for sure. Yeah, I had no problem with it. I, I, yeah, I, I, I, I, yeah, I, I,
struggle to go so far as to say it was justified, but I don't, when the news came out that he was sitting,
I didn't. No part of me was like, oh my God, why are you sitting Scotty? I'll tell you what I do have a
problem with. I don't know if you guys do as well. I hate that Kara, and nothing against Kara,
but I hate that that person in that position breaks it to Scotty. I would rather afford him the
opportunity to go talk to his captain to learn whether he's playing or not. I,
I thought that was a bit off, in my opinion.
Devil's advocate.
Very good TV.
Yeah.
I thought the same thing,
Randy.
I was like, oh, this is unfair.
I was like, ooh, but I can't, but what's he going to say?
So, yeah, I definitely was thinking about that, too.
Did you guys see,
I would be not a fan of was Kara asking, you know,
sneds on that opening tea about,
you know,
about the afternoon foursums and him not being able to remember who he put with
Chris Goder up, which was.
Let me get through this show without doing that tonight.
and then I will.
I don't know.
That's one of those like,
there's no worse feeling in the world than that
when you just,
you miss the step and you're just like,
you're falling is a,
that's a tough one to dig yourself out of.
Is this live here?
Are we live?
Can we get to take that again?
Should we?
I do back to one.
I do want an answer,
but you know,
at some point in the next week,
if that was a,
you know,
if Clark Burns was even a possibility
heading into the week,
if that was a rehearsed,
foursomes at all, a communicated possible contingency plan in some way. I'd be surprised that
that was the case. I think, and it sounded like there was some conversation, Brendan Pora had some
comments about, you know, looked like there was some conversation with Sam Burns and some of the
assistant captains and Sneds when that kind of news was given to them after their match concluded
to the point where it did not work. Like that that move did not necessarily work in the afternoon.
Sam Burns and Wyndham Clark lost their match in the afternoon. But I do think Snedds was
saying, okay, this Sheffler Burns combo has not been great.
Sam is playing much better than Scotty is this morning in four ball.
And Scotty is also way better in four ball than he is in foursomes.
He's one and eight in foursoms.
And I can't really bench Sam how he's playing right now.
I can't really bench Windham how he's playing right now.
I'm kind of butting up against who the heck am I going to sit.
I feel like it's got to be Scotty.
And I didn't necessarily disagree with that on its surface.
I just didn't know if they were as prepared as they should be for that pairing.
And the fact that he couldn't name who he was pairing guys with leads me to believe that as well.
But on the flip side, the got her up, it's not like maybe it was gotter up that got switched in at the last minute to play in the afternoon.
And him and Cam Young did go out and whoops some ass this afternoon.
Did got to ask, did you guys see the thing where Pat Murphy benched William Contreras for not running out a single the other night?
and then he came out the next night
and had another close play at first
and Dove head first at first base
which is not really what you want to see
head into the playoffs but was very funny
and I'd love
you know maybe Scott do something like that tomorrow
tomorrow
What's the equivalent?
What's the equivalent of that?
Just going absolutely
apes shit on the first green when you
two put par
or he's doing the he's riding
to the happy Gilmore ride the ride the bull off the first
T. I know he's got to try to drive
four for sure. That's
definite. Yeah, let me
think on that big. There's got to be
there's got to be an equivalent. God, we need more guys
to land head first in a first place.
Should we get to some matches?
We've been and we've been delaying this
for quite some time.
Why don't we start with the last match
since we're talking about Scotty and Burns
anyways? This was Hadeki and Rio.
He's at Sunni this morning
in the fourth match out. Scotty
made a birdie on the easy third hole, but then
did not make another birdie until 15.
It was a run of one birdie in 29 holes on his own ball in four ball.
Burns was much better player.
He birdied the fourth hole, birdied the ninth hole, and they made a furious rally.
They were one down after 14, but ended up winning the match two and one with birdies on 15.
And then Burns stepped up and birdied 16 and 17 to put that, flip that match and put some more red on the board at the end of that one.
Not only birdies, I mean, just stuffed the pinata on 16 and 17.
Those are awesome shots, especially on 16, was just, that was big time stuff from Sam Burns.
Back up at the very top, first match out was Justin Thomas and Jackson Coyvin against Minbu Lee and Sung J.M.
Coyvin set the tone early with a birdie on the first.
J.T had some fence issues right off the jump.
J.T. would make a birdie on the fourth hole, but that would be his.
only birdie of the day.
Coyvin bounced back with a birdie on the 6th hole.
That put him two up.
But the internationals bounced right back and won the seventh
with a birdie from Sungjay M.
12 hole was great.
Coyvin pulled it way left but survived.
J.T. got way too aggressive with his driver,
went in the water.
Sung Jay thought he hit it in the fairway,
but it rode the fairway and crept all the way into...
So sick.
Into the penalty area, which I don't...
As much as I've watched it that hole,
I didn't realize it was that dramatic.
of if you got the ball working the wrong way
and that fair way it could get all the way down there.
I love stuff like that, man.
No, it's not, you know, layups shouldn't be easy either.
There shouldn't be, like, it shouldn't be an auto,
get out of jail free card on a hole like that.
Yeah.
So 12 was, 12 was great to watch all day long from that back.
It was, the team was back today and it was, in the morning at least.
And it was, it just made for some,
it'd be very decisive on what club you were taking and what line you were taken.
So,
uh,
it started to get away from the U.S.
from there though, Coyvin made bogies on 13 and 14. J.T. made some scrambling pars on both of those
holes, but it really got away from the U.S. on 15 and 16. Min Mulee birdied 15. And then the U.S.
just made a complete mess of the 16th hole and handed it to the internationals and it was tied. JT.
had a good look from 18 feet on the 17th hole, but missed that put. He did have a nice up and down
on 18 with Coyvin in trouble. That was enough for them to eke out.
a half, but JT was the lowest strokes game player in the field this morning in Saturday, four
balls. Some of that due to the very first hole where he whiffed a ball left-handed essentially,
but the rest of it was also very much not good. And the rest of it was very not good.
I'm glad I got my, I got a lot, I did a lot of JT. I did a week's worth of J.T. Gleys I got
Thursday, which is good because I don't, I don't think I'm going to need, need too much more.
He was not good today, unfortunately.
No, it was obvious he was going to need to sit in the afternoon.
But I just, man, I did not.
I didn't see Coivan battle though.
Yeah, Coivin had.
I enjoyed watching Coivin in this in this setting.
He had to go on for a little while, kind of carried it as long as he could.
And he, yeah, he did not have a strong back nine, but yeah, his partner left him out to dry completely.
So they were really a good pairing in terms of neither, you know, JT had the great day Thursday.
Very poor day today.
Coyvin was solid today and helped offset JT to the point where they got a half out of it.
But yeah, I mean, I could not have imagined what we saw, how clean it was from JT on Thursday,
that it was just complete loss of game the last two days was not, you know,
I could see a comeback to Earth kind of being a more neutral player over the last two days.
I did not see him completely losing his game.
He looked quite bummed afterwards.
He said he felt like he cost Jackson a half point.
in that match it's hard to argue that he that he didn't yeah so just just a couple true unknowns too
with thomas and covin now going into singles you know covin playing four balls it's a little bit
protect you know you don't want to put them in too big of a spot uh be interesting his his first
international singles uh match on this type of stage and then yeah like you said j t who knows tomorrow
I think that's a bit concerning for the U.S.
Yeah, especially as JT's approach play and putter.
Like that's a tough combination to not have working.
But man, he guts out the singles matches.
I don't know what the matchup is exactly going to be for him.
But we'll get to that when it gets, I think it's unveiled,
but we will break that down here a little later.
But yeah, a good half point earned out between Minmoo Lee and Sung J. M.
Every half at this point from the internationals is a partial win with the lead they have.
Second matchout, Siwu Kim and Tom Kim.
Just the most delightful pairing to watch play golf in this event.
They beat Colin Moracawa and Wyndham Clark.
Morakawa made a bunch of early birdies.
Wyndham rolled in a bomb from 37 feet on the fifth hole.
Went nuts.
Wyom brought the energy from the jump, too.
You know, getting crowd pumped up on the very first hole.
Seawo and Tom Kim, they made a mess of the seventh hole.
handed that to them to put the U.S. two up.
But Siwu birdied 9-11.
Tom Kim birdied 12.
Seawu-drained birdies on both 16 and 17 to come back and win that match for the
internationals, extend the lead to 8 to 3.
It was the best golf played of any match this morning.
And, you know, Tom Kim was not excellent, but Siwu was.
And Tom Kim stepped up on the couple of holes that was needed.
And they eked out the point in that one.
Massive point. I think with all the red on the board through the front nine this morning to get a half a point, like you said, out of that first match and then flip this and gain a full point. I mean, this, the international team goes on to win. I think you can kind of circle these matches as pretty big keys to that.
And another, another like point for team golf too, not that anybody's arguing team golf is bad. But I love hearing Siwu talk about, like, I think.
when we've seen him in contention it's always a lot of like man the potter looks really dodgy he doesn't
look like he's trust in his reads he's he just looks a little off and coming down the stretch he just
looked like he was nails and afterwards he's like oh yeah tom's reading all my puts he's telling me
right where to hit it and i just can't i can't miss i'm like oh that's awesome that's what is that's
what it's all about that's so great they understand the assignment to you know shushing the
crowd and i just i i i i the the president's cup has gotten a lot better since tom
Kim got involved in this event.
Yeah.
I'm glad you said that 100% agree.
Totally.
Could not agree more.
Yeah.
In the third match, it was Cam Young and Chris Godder up against Nick Taylor and
Cory Connors.
Cam just came out, hit the Noss early.
They won the first hole after Connors and Taylor made a mess of that one.
Then Cam birdied two.
He birdied three.
Then drove the fourth green and eagled.
That hole to go four up through four holes.
Cam also made a burdy on the sixth hole and the ninth hole.
shot six under on his own ball on the front nine stalled out a little bit on the back nine but got her up drains bombs on 14 15 and 17 to to there was first three birdies of the day to come back and close that match and they they win that one it says two and one I would have thought that would have been three and one with that birdie but anyways they win the win the match win the point and the pairing that we wanted to see from the very jump at the beginning of this week you know puts another
puts a point on the board for the U.S.
Isn't it funny how, like, I'm sure there's analytics reasons to put them together, too,
but there are some pairings where you just kind of look at guys.
You're like, yeah, obviously those two, right?
Like those two are going to play together, right?
Yeah, come on.
And they were practicing together.
And that's where, you know, the Goder up can't lay thing in the first four ball was, you know,
it's one of those you're like, all right, they probably know something we don't mathematically.
That felt like Professor Ball.
I hated that.
Yeah.
And I wish I had a question.
You know, I'm that I'm truly Monday morning quarterbacking that one of, you know,
especially for what we've seen out of these,
this two in the combination.
But yeah,
I don't know how they landed on that one.
And it was,
you know,
more they figured it out eventually,
but they potentially too little too late.
Anyways,
the morning four ball ends,
the internationals leading eight and a half to five and a half.
The U.S.
got two and a half out of it.
International's one and a half.
Still think that was a good session for the internationals.
Oh, it could have been devastating.
Yeah.
Because you know the U.S. was like this was kind of like, dude,
we got to survive kind of taking their best shot this morning.
And when it was all red on the front nine, that's what I mean.
Like getting a point and a half out of this session, I think it was massive.
I think it was, you know, you're down, down seven,
but you got the ball near the end of the half.
You drive, you get a field goal, and you're getting the ball back to start the second
half going into foursums.
Like that was the move of like we didn't didn't tie the game, but we got the ball back and it's time to go in forcums.
And yeah, college football season is here and our closets are looking more and more.
That's quite a metaphor you got going there.
Like Robax website.
Here's the thing about Robax Collegiate Game Day collection.
It's not just slapping a logo on a stock polo.
Every polo hoodie and quarter zip is custom designed for your school, whether it's campus landmarks, logos, traditions, school colors, you name it.
back is tapping into it in a unique custom way.
The polos, hoodies, the Q-Zips,
and more, the Game Day collection just continues to grow.
I'm dubbed Ved up from the feet up tonight, Randy.
The little accents they got in there with the school colors on the string and all that stuff is
just the best.
And I've got a little Dubvipolo that they've, you know, they've flooded it.
A bunch of small a Dubvie logos on that one.
I love that one.
Best part is it's still the same fit and feel of everything else you already know about
rowback, best fabrics.
incredible versatility and incredibly comfortable.
In the wise words of ball knower, James Winston,
on Saturdays we wear Roeback.
So catch them before they sell out,
and your team potentially drops their next game.
Head to Roeback.com.
R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com.
Use code NLU for 20% off your first order
through the end of the week.
Into the afternoon, sitting for the U.S.,
Scotty Sheffler,
Justin Thomas, Jackson Coyven,
and Colin Moracawa.
on the international side Christian Bezadenhot sitting all day
Nico Echeverria sitting all day
Hideki Matsuyama and Riohisatsune
were on the bench for this afternoon.
I know we don't have to spend a lot of time on this
but any surprises, Bez has like a big time winning record
is any surprise to, can't argue with the result I guess,
but I was maybe a little surprised not to see him go back out and force them.
That's kind of why he's on the team.
He stunk in that first for some session.
I think it was a chance to go for the jugular.
I mean, he and Nico did not play well in the first sessions they played to the point where
Ogilvy made the call of we're not going back there.
The depth thing is a problem.
We do not have to play you again.
Maybe we can.
And this is where I think the President's Cup is unique in that you can pick and choose
your matchups for those two players if you want to for singles play, right?
And there's a way of going, when you go in blind and it, you know, you don't know who they're going to play and it could be really, really bad for the math and the calculus of how you want to try to find your points.
I think it's a totally different thing.
Like you could totally lay each of those two guys as a sacrificial land to the best two U.S. guys if it shakes that way.
Or you could find the bottom two guys on the U.S. side, the most vulnerable guys in the U.S. side and try to scratch a point out of those matches.
I think that's a super interesting.
It's more justifiable, I think, to bench somebody for a long period of time in the,
in the President's Cup than the Ryder Cup.
No spoilers, but hold that thought for when we get to singles.
Cannot wait.
First one out.
They sat the morning session.
Patrick Cantlay and Zander Shafley against Tom Kim, Seawu Kim.
Zander came out of the gate, guys.
He came out, made a couple putts.
You know, kind of, you know, it wasn't like a big change in energy necessarily.
We've been a big par put on one.
Pretty workman like.
Yeah.
Gotta just couple dudes clock it in.
Let's just go to work, man.
Eight more.
Eight more and we're back home.
Yeah.
It was not the most fun,
fun match to watch,
but they got it done.
They got it done.
They birdied two and three and five.
The internationals did,
of course,
Tom Kim and Sioux Kim made some birdies on the front nine.
They did run out of steam, though.
The puts that were falling for the first three sessions,
most definitely not.
They made a mess of the 11th hole.
When they did that,
put the US two up.
They did stuff want to make a birdie.
See who stuffed it on the 16th hole when they were two down with just three to play.
They kind of extended their life a little bit,
but ended up having to concede the 17th hole when they de-green themselves on a kind
of a do-or-die putt on 17.
It was funny, but like they kind of needed to make that put because the U.S.
was in close.
But got a point on the board for Zandir and Cantlay.
If they'd have gone home in three, I don't know if the genie's getting back in the bottle on
that one.
And from a, from a PR standpoint, but to quote, to quote your reds again, where are you going to go?
You're going to put these guys on the team?
Where else are you going to go?
That's very interesting.
You want JJ's Vaugh?
Yeah, you think he's going to put butts in seats?
I don't think so.
Give you Kayla and Zander again.
I do think there's something to the point that we don't have to play these two together if they,
like they had incredible success in the early part of this partnership when they were both like top five players in the world.
and they're not the same level of player anymore.
So I don't know if we have to keep them together.
I think you'd be hard pressed to find guys that should absolutely be on the team over them.
But I do think we could be potentially looking at the end of kind of this run of this partnership.
Yeah, I can see that.
First loss for Tom Kim and Siwu Kim there, three and one.
Zander and Cantlay moved to one and two after this match.
Got to be a little bit of fumes for Tom Kim and Siwu.
towards the end of that match.
Like it looked like the door was kind of creaking open
and they maybe could flip it again
and it was just like just too big of a too big of an ask.
Yeah.
Did any, I mean, I'm doing this off the top of my head.
Did anyone that played all four
win their afternoon match?
Cam Young, I believe,
is potentially the only one.
Oh, Minwood has gone all four.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And Corey Connors.
Yep.
You're correct.
Okay.
So several guys.
did, which that is the next match up.
Russell Henley, Jacob Bridgman against Corey Connors and Nick Taylor.
A bunch of OB shit going on in the early part of this match.
Connors hit one OB on two.
I was not the best golf, but it was entertaining.
It was interesting.
It was bad golf, Randy.
If you look at the card, you can get tricked into thinking that it wasn't that bad
because there's a bunch of circles on there.
But some of those were just like conceded birdies before,
because the other team was out of the whole.
and had already played their par shot before the other team had even hit their birdie.
But Taylor went right up against the OB on the first.
O'Connor's hit it OB on two, but a fan just like bicycle kicked it back onto the green.
One of the most outrageous things I've ever seen in live sports.
And it was crazy.
And the guy immediately covered his mouth.
Oh my God, I'm so sorry.
It was just for that to be the reflex was epic.
It was like a kung fu move.
I've never seen anything like it.
What was the Jeffrey Meyer incident in the Yankee in the playoff game?
Yeah.
And so they did rule fan interference on that and ruled that ball was out of bounds.
It's just a big, a big dub for the for fight over flight there for that.
Bartman sitting right there in Chicago for you.
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
What if it was Bartman?
Nobody's seen him until then.
So the internationals did not get a ball in the hole for the first three holes.
and they were three down from there,
but then they peeled off some birdies,
maybe some birdies.
You know, some of these might have just been gimmies.
But they were three,
the U.S. was three up through 10 holes in this match.
And the meltdown just ensued from there.
The Americans bogeed 11.
They conceded the 12th hole and they made a mess
and plugged the ball in the bunker there.
Just made absolutely no sense shot from Russell Henley there on the 12th.
Russ missed a shorty during,
playing through to have the 14th hole.
Then they bogeed 15 to go one down.
Russ just stunk.
I mean, he stepped up.
He drove it in the bunker on 17 when they had their backs up against the wall.
Corey Conner finished the match with a six-footer on the 18th hole,
Porter right in the middle.
And the internationals won that one, one up,
which was a massive point at the end of that day.
10-8 is so different than 10.5, 7-5.
Yeah.
Russ love Russ.
Huge Russ Henley fan.
He goes in my in my,
in my file, my Billy Horschel file of just like, oh, man, I thought this was going to go a lot,
a lot different in team golf.
And just kind of seen two of them now.
And you're like, that's, that's not it, man.
I don't know if we're, I don't know if we're, hang on to that uniform, man.
I don't know if we're getting another one of those.
I don't know if we're coming back from that.
Yeah.
Bridgman, we said this on the preview.
We've said this this week.
I don't get taking a guy that has best par four scoring and not letting him play his own
ball at all.
Just like, especially as a.
a rookie too is like the hardest thing to settle into is the all shot and it's just a just weird and pairing it
with somebody that doesn't hit the ball that far also like you know bridgman's not a bomber either i mean
again i i don't have the the all the info of what why this pairing would have made sense from
from foursomes but it didn't work they went o and two uh and their two foursomes matches and it hurt it hurt
It hurt a lot.
Third match, Cameron Young and Chris Goderup against Adam Scott and SungJM.
Cam just complete hero mode.
Cameron Young has been the best player in this president's cup, both sides.
Not even close.
Nobody's even in the ballpark of what that guy has produced.
Even that's after a pretty shaky opening session that we had.
I think we were kind of questioning after Thursday, what you do with Cam Young.
But the last three sessions, he has been just pretty much the best player in each one.
he was the best by far 4.56 shots gained alone from him in this afternoon's foursums.
Goddrup was next up with 2.15.
Like nobody else in any other match was within three shots of him.
They are guys.
In one single session.
So, and then, yeah, he was the second best player this morning just behind Sam Burns.
So just incredible stuff from him.
They just absolutely boat race him.
Gotter up was pretty solid.
very solid in the afternoon as well.
And they were too good of a team.
Like in a better world,
they would have been spread out
and they had not been wasted on winning six and four.
But, you know, that's,
it breaks that way sometimes.
Cam hit a 375-yard drive on 13,
then drained an eagle putt after that.
They went on 30 best ball,
I'm sorry, in foursomes.
They went out at 30 and they were five up at the turn.
I know,
I know Adam Scott's not the Adam Scott of old.
he still is one of the premier players on the team he's been a pretty kind of a missing person
this week and for them to to still be up three points even with him not having a good week is
impressive you know the numbers don't necessarily support that you mean he is one and two but
he's been like quite literally dead neutral in strokes gains um and so it's hard to you know in this
afternoon fours him he was he was fine you know he just wasn't they went up against a buzzsaw
and Sung Jay wasn't that great
in afternoon foursums.
He was the best player in the Friday foursomes
in the match they won,
beating Cammon and JT.
So it's not been great,
but it's not been, you know,
there's some bigger problems, I think,
overall on the,
on the international side than
Adam Scott.
It's essentially been like their fourth best player so far.
Sung Jays won, two, and one,
Adam Scott, one and two.
Cam Young somehow is only two and two and Goddorup is two and two so far.
Last match, Sam Burns and Wyndham Clark against Ryan Foxman-W-Lee.
The early lead was taken in this one by Burns and Clark.
They were two up through two.
Fox and Lee fought back with a birdie on the third hole, though.
They also birded the seventh hole to tie the match.
They won the hole with the eighth hole with a par to go one up,
and then they made an unbelievable shot from Ryan Fox on the 13th hole
of the par 3 using the funnel pin getting it down there close
and that one winning that hole to go one up.
Minbu Lee then made a short birdie putt on 14 after another good shot
from Fox to go two up.
U.S. made a mess of 15, three-up lead ended up winning this one,
three and two is kind of burns right now to steam near the end.
Clark's been good.
I feel like he's been a lot better than his one and three record shows.
That was a shock to me when I saw that.
Um, but Fox moves to two and one,
Minwood lead to one and one and the internationals will be taking a 10 and a half,
seven and a half lead into tomorrow.
Uh,
can we get into singles.
Please.
We can.
I,
I'm thrilled to,
uh,
to unveil this.
I think,
uh,
I'm excited for tomorrow.
Uh,
all right.
Should we do a,
uh,
I,
I'm looking at them.
I'll,
I'll say who,
you know,
famously in the president's cup,
one team throws one out.
The other team can react.
There's no envelope or anything like that.
that the internationals went first guys if you're the internationals who you're thrown out first
as your your your lead dog it it's interesting is that white tk's music i hear him or siwu
but there's also a quiet little rule of thumb that you don't put out somebody that's going
to play five matches in the first match from an energy perspective going out first for the
international's rio hissotunay the u.s counters
with Cameron Young.
Like that, Matt.
Don't like that.
Let's put a point on the board if they're going to give it to us.
What?
Okay.
I'll flag that one.
I will have some questions on that later.
What?
Team USA comes out with Wyndham Clark.
Okay.
Captain Ogilvy comes back with Tom Kim.
Okay.
Great match there.
wasn't that wasn't windham in the the famous night night
no he was not in the match
he was chirping that's right he was chirping of that's right
they played them earlier that day I think yeah
okay back to the internationals
throw out Corey Connors
the U.S. counters with Justin Thomas
so we have
Cam Young Wyndham Clark Justin Thomas
as our first three for the U.S.
The U.S. throws
out Scotty Sheffler next
which is interesting
in that you would just give them a free role
to put anybody that they want up against Scotty Sheffler
right so they put Bez up against them I bet
close Nico Nico
what are they doing
US comes
I'm sorry international's come up next with
Sungjay who was going to get Sam Burns
I was going to guess Burns
then we go to the US
has gotter up
again
kind of putting like your big horse and saying who would you like to play this guy a little bit.
And they sound like they'd.
Great man.
They went Bez.
Bez.
Bez.
They went Bez.
Got her up and Bez.
I don't love this.
That's what we doing, dog?
No, I don't know if I'd love this from the international team.
Hideki is next.
It gets thrown out.
He will be taking on Colin Morikawa.
Uh, sure.
After that, the U.S.
throws out Patrick Cantley.
Uh, international's counter with Adam Scott.
Hmm.
Uh, maybe the most interesting match of the day.
After that, internationals throughout Siwu Kim, uh, U.S. answers with who's left.
Is it Sander?
No, it's not Sander.
Coyvin?
Coyvin.
Wow.
Coyvin versus Siwu Kim.
It would be good stuff there.
Jacob Bridgman is going to be in the 10th match.
He's taken on Min Wu Lee.
International throughout Nick Taylor, who's going to get Russ Henley,
and that leaves the anchor match as Xander versus the great, great, great man,
Ryan Fox as the firewall.
Sali, your reaction.
I'm just learning this now, okay?
So it's just now coming across my desk.
it certainly seems like from my perspective that they mismanaged the Cameron Young and
Scotty Sheffler situation because as much as hard as we've been on Scotty for this like still
18 whole solo single match play like I he's gonna be one of your dogs like he's one of your guys
that like you are you know you you would not want him in a matchup against one of the lowest
ranked players on the international team and they play like
They chose that in the opening match, one,
and also gave the internationals the opportunity
to find the matchup they wanted for Nico.
It's just interesting.
I'm happy if I'm Ogilvy.
If I'm saying Godra up, Bez, Scotty, Nico, and Rio Cameron Young are the three,
I will lose those three matches, let's say.
If I get a half point out of those, I'm happy.
If I get one, I'm ecstatic out of that.
Then we're, even if you lose all three, we're tied.
And all I got to do is find five out of the other favorable, you know, somewhat favorable matchups that we're going to get.
I'm pretty happy if I'm the internationals right now.
I tend to agree.
Yeah, I like that.
God, the singles is where it really starts to, um, you see the depth.
See the depth.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Where you're just like, how we, how we win in some of these matches international teams.
God, that Tom Kim Wyndham Clark match feels very big, very big.
But, Rainey, the depth would play better if you get like players on your team matched up.
Yeah, you're just negating the depth if you're putting your worst against their best, right?
Or you're like shrinking the disparity a little bit.
I get the idea if you want to get, let's just call it an easy point.
and I'm not going to guarantee Cameron Young's going to beat Hitsatsunay tomorrow.
But I get the idea of like you want to win that first match.
But like you got a margin, you got to close.
Like they'd have put Rio out first.
What would you guys, who would you guys have put up against him?
JT.
That's like Wendom or JT or Morikawa, I think could have been a good fit there.
Zander could have been a good fit there.
I know he hasn't played his best, but like I would count on Zander to beat Rio Hizatsatsunee.
Zander always go last.
I feel like that's it.
No, he's gone first at times.
Yeah.
And I don't know if I'm putting Russ Henley near the back end after what happened at Beth Page when the moment got pretty big.
No, but I just, I mean, there's a world where let's give Cam his match.
Let's give Scotty his match.
J.T.'s a dog.
J.T. is a question mark right now.
Corey Conters has been.
For sure.
Yeah.
That's an interesting match tomorrow.
That's a big spot for JT.
He's got to win.
I guess what I'm saying is like, shit, man, I could see it world.
where the U.S. wins us for six matches.
Yeah.
Just hoping that momentum rides through the rest.
I don't know.
This gets back to like, yeah,
when I just look at the names on paper,
the depth and I guess the world ranking
and accomplishments of the U.S. team
really shine through a bit.
But I want to find odds matches for these.
I love that.
Randy, can I run a game by you?
that I'm really interested to play with you.
Yeah.
We can do this rather quickly.
But maybe this is a better Sunday game,
but I'm interested to get your take on this.
So the exercise is this.
We, for the 12 U.S. players on this team,
you have to decide right now whether or not you are taking them to a dare.
Okay?
You say yes, they're going no matter what happens of the next year.
And if you say no, they're not going no matter what happens of the next year.
This is where if you try to ask solid this,
he'd be like, well, I would have to know what's going on at the time.
Am I taking the team for right now?
Are we playing tomorrow?
I'll play two.
Or are we playing it a year?
I'm going to play too.
I don't know I'm a loco either.
I'll say no to 12 guys.
I know you will.
We'll make this real quick for you.
I will play too.
All right, Cameron Young,
are you taking him to a day?
We're taking him to Adair.
Okay.
He's on the squad.
Windham.
Yes, he's on the squad.
Okay.
DJ gave a thumbs up as well.
J.T.
I hate this.
Dude, I'm biased.
I just have a little bit of J.T. fatigue.
Like, I know the answer.
Well, I don't want to lock them in.
So I think it has to be a no because I don't want to lock them in.
Greatest team record in United States team golf history.
I legitimately think maybe they should kick Furek out and make J.T.
to captain if they're going to try to redo some of this Team USA stuff.
Because I do think he needs to be in there because I think he's the only one that,
kind of has that bone, but maybe not so much holding clubs.
I'll say no for now.
Can't bring them no matter what.
JJ Spont's coming then.
That's what that means.
I'm taking JT.
Scott Schaeffler.
We're going to bring Scott.
Yeah.
We're going to bring Scott.
Let me see what happens tomorrow.
Sam Burns.
So this is a guy I've kind of done a 180 on.
I think, yeah, I just don't think we're finding 12 guys better than Sam.
next year. I also think they've
not put them in the best positions to
succeed. I agree with that. I think
finding a better match for partnership
can get more out of him. I don't know what
that answer is, but I think something
different could work for Sam Burns.
Goder up. I like Godder
up. I'm bringing him. Yep. Yeah, I'm
taking him. Big
spot for you here, Randy. Morikawa.
I've seen enough of Colin. I don't
need him. He kind of falls in that J.T.
camp. Let's
you know, the Tree of Liberty,
needs refresh with some new blood.
Yeah, I know it's
probably stupid and he's going to put up
some crazy good iron year and of course
he should be on the team, quote unquote, but
I'm with you. I'm good.
No, thanks.
I'm taking more, Kawah.
Can't lay.
No. No.
Done.
It's the hardest one for me.
I know. This is
this one, right?
Coyvin? Yeah, no, no, can't.
No, can't lay.
I'd still do it.
That was the easiest one.
But again, I'm ready to.
to break up him and Xander. I think
I still think he's
going to be better. Just imagine the world where it's
like, oops, we have to leave.
You know when you like get rid of a bunch of stuff in your...
Outside the leaving him is so much more than having to take him.
You know when you're like stressing about cleaning your office or something and you're like,
if I get, I just can't possibly get rid of this.
I would, I would miss it so much.
I would think about what if I ever need to go to a Halloween party where I need to
dresses this thing.
I'm going to need
and then you get rid of it
and you just don't ever think about it again.
I think that would be...
You're not wrong.
Team USA situation.
I think you're not wrong.
If I felt like there was more new
hot-blooded Americans ready to
come up, I might answer differently
on some of these, but that's kind of...
You're watching this corn fairy tour?
You're Ross Steelman on that...
Sure. I like Ben James.
Yeah, Ben James get the air friar out there.
This one is interesting.
Jackson Coyvin.
Well, that's why I thought this one was the hardest.
because like the track record, right?
It's hard to just like guarantee him a spot next year,
but also I want to afford him that opportunity.
So yeah, I'm taking him.
I'm in.
We locked him up, man, eight-year deal.
She's a franchise shortstop.
We're with him.
Adair's a training ground anyways.
We're not going to win Adair.
So he's got to be there.
Bridgman.
Plus we got six years of control.
Yeah.
what you just said leads me to know on bridgeman like no offense we just let's get let's see some new guys
yeah it would have been yeah it was a good audition thanks for coming out man yeah uh great love what you
love what you put on tape this isn't no forever this is just no for next year yeah although in this
instance it is no forever isn't that what you said sallie no just like you can't it's no for next year
like you you have you have to lock him this year russ henley nah no i'm it's a no for me
me. Zander.
Zander's a yes, whereas KLA's a no.
Okay. Yeah.
Let's split them up. Let's see how X-Man reacts
without Patrick.
Yeah. This is where
I hated. I think I had 10 yeses.
And I don't love myself
ever, but I definitely don't love myself
right now. See, DJ
and I cleaned out the closet. We're feeling free.
I think we have five spots.
DJ's got to take Sahith.
How's he going to feel when that happens?
Oh, yeah. What if they lose?
That would be a nightmare.
What if we had players that were fun to watch and then they lost?
That would be, what a mess that would be.
Gosh.
All right.
Oh, speed.
You didn't have to get on the regular.
Yeah, we got a spot for speed now.
All right, do speak, you're locking him in right now?
Or he can't take him?
No, it's not part of the game.
I don't have to answer that question.
All right, who wins the president's got tomorrow?
Oh, God, I've been wrong about everything.
week. So I don't know whether it stands it or go with my whole chest.
We all agree that tie is like the worst, the sum of all fears, right?
That'd be a nightmare. That'd be a nightmare.
Which I forget, do they do? Yeah, they famously.
They used to have it be a playoff, but now they got rid of that.
Yeah. It's too much pressure on anybody.
But they don't even do a retain, do they? Do they call it a full on tie?
I don't know. Who cares? Isn't that crazy that you don't know? I don't know either.
I want to believe in something.
I want to root for underdogs.
Give me the international team.
Yeah, come join me, big.
I love it.
Same.
Same.
I think they can't be three across the board now.
I think hope they do it.
I mean, what a story it would be.
Truly like, I mean, just unreal.
Unreal stuff if they get it done.
I don't even know what to compare it to in golf.
It would be nuts.
I hope it's big, too.
Yeah, a lot.
Yeah.
Just bleak scenes out there.
Or the great man Foxy wins it with a triumphant effort down the good of the sport.
I hope it comes out of that last match and Foxy just steps on another midiron into 18.
Zander won't even have scooped up as gimmy.
Foxy will have already hit the putt.
Exactly.
Can't wait.
What a dub that we got such a fun Sunday at the President's Cup on tap?
It is.
That was not guaranteed, guys.
There's a lot of things that have to happen for that to go that way.
That's right.
Are you going to get your stopwatch out for the speech on the first team?
I'm sure there will be plenty of stopwatches out,
but I'm happy to join the chorus, if you like.
If he opens it up to question, Saul, you want me to ask anything?
Do that whole game of who he's taken of the 12 Americans if he's taken to next year.
We'll do.
I might have to give him to wait on the T-Swift situation,
which Randy, you have not, you've not weighed in on this.
Are you going to pick a side on this?
Are you issuing a statement on this T-Swift?
Your silence is deafening.
Well, I will have a statement tomorrow.
Let's leave it as a cliffhanger for the Sunday show.
It's not good.
It's not good, big.
Doesn't look good.
You got a lot of reputational capital tied up in this one.
Doesn't look good, but we're going to have an official statement tomorrow.
night. Yeah.
Oof.
Highlights are one other highlight of the day,
maybe a low light. I don't know if you guys
this came across your guys desk.
I like watching the President's Cup.
It's not my favorite event.
You know, it's not like must-see
TV. If you entirely miss the whole thing,
I wouldn't be like, oh, you really missed out.
Except everyone reads Caddy pushed that fan. That was great.
Charlie Reimer didn't,
doesn't share the same sentiment.
it.
How did we wait an hour and 20
to get to this?
He should have led with this.
He should have.
He tweeted this if you have it.
Here's a hot take.
If you had hooked me up to the electric chair
and you said, quote,
watch the president's cup or we'll flip the switch.
I'd say, quote, flip the switch.
Hashtag glorified member guest.
Chuck, I was not familiar with your game.
Give me more of these hot takes.
Oh, gosh.
Flip the switch.
That needs to be in the lexicon immediately,
whatever things are getting dire.
This NBC commercial load,
flip the fucking switch, man.
Yeah, just good stuff.
And I love when people,
I don't,
I don't know if anybody will care about this,
but the,
I mean,
that's just out of nowhere.
Like that wasn't an answer to a question.
Wasn't like a,
a lot of people are asked,
expect to me to kind of
in here.
Just like I hear here.
Literally here's a hot take.
Good stuff.
Good stuff.
Hashtag FTS.
Flip the switch.
Isn't.
Isn't he?
Like,
doesn't he have like,
not a connection,
but isn't he like a golf channel guy?
He was for very,
very long time.
Oh,
is he not anymore?
No,
I don't think so.
No,
that's always,
come on,
Charlie.
Well,
that's why I was like,
holy shit,
isn't this guy?
I would point you towards,
uh,
Someone like Markle-I, Randy, has kind of made me think of that.
It's kind of been on that, on that tip, just like 25, 30 years in like mainstream media.
And they're just like, all this is fucking bullshit.
And everybody's bought and paid for.
Everything's a scam.
Yeah, it's good.
We need it.
Flip the switch.
Flip the switch, man.
Somebody flipped the switch on NBC commercial load this afternoon.
It was a complete embarrassment.
I thought they bounced back pretty well yesterday
and I didn't feel like it was horrible
watch today until the end when they
just blew it worse than Henley and Bridgman did
missing shots
playing through big moments in playing through
coming back from playing through three putts
then right back in commercial it was
it was really bad
that's it we know the drill
but it was it was very very tough
yeah not
not good not good
flip the switch
flip the switch
all right that is going to do it for tonight's show we will have a full recap of the week
tomorrow dege will be there on site you're going to call in from the media center right after
lord willing yeah i think so how early do you have to get there with security and everything
uh well for security purpose is big i'm not going to disclose that information
good good nice nice try we'll leave you with this tweet somebody gave me an option of
getting there at 7 a.m. or
hitting the electric chair.
I'm wrapping this before we, before
this goes down a dark path. But
thank you everyone for two to get all week.
Do we give away tonight or anything, Cody?
I didn't, I don't want to cut you off if we did.
No, guys, I was busy at a
nine-year-old birthday party.
So I'll throw some,
an extra drawing tomorrow.
What was it? What was the theme?
I feel like all these are just themed.
It was a lot. We did a,
first time doing split.
First time doing split.
Split ops.
I have twins.
So one got to have a birthday party at the house.
I took the other one to a movie theater with their friends.
So everybody gets their special day in McBride.
That's nice.
Do they have a definitively like big different friend group?
Yeah, we have them in different classes.
Oh, that makes sense.
Let them live their own lives.
Well, of course.
It's good.
Good on them.
But yeah, nine.
Nine-nine-year-olds at a movie theater.
Midday, just hopped up on icy's popcorn and M&Ms.
Yeah, what did you think of the commercial load this afternoon?
Yes, sweet.
I did listen.
I watched the whole thing.
What movie did you see?
Oh, my goodness.
I can't even remember the name of it, dude.
That a girl on the...
Some fuck I did.
Trolls.
You saw trolls.
Man, I'm...
What a...
tough spot to be here.
See, it happens to everybody.
I'm so glad I'm not I'm not
coming at SND on that one.
Why don't you name something? I'll tell you.
I was too locked in on the golf, man.
The Odyssey. So many
bathroom breaks. You have no idea.
That's good stuff.
All right. Sounds like a good one. If you
put that to show notes, if it was one worth seeing.
It's a delightful episode. Thank you.
very much for tuning in all week to our President's Cup stuff.
We'll be back.
Usually a little later after play wraps on the single session,
we'll wait for some pressers and sound bites,
and we'll put a full cap on the 2026 Presidents' Cup.
So everyone enjoy the final day, DJ.
Super quick.
Lauren Coughlin buried all nine holes on the front nine today.
That demand, simply demands a shout out.
It certainly does.
What does she shoot?
I don't know.
She was like 10 under 13 or 14 or something.
Yeah.
Did she find any coming in?
I do want to report.
It's called the Forgotten Island.
Okay.
Was it good?
What was it?
What was it at 10?
She shot 61.
