Starting point is 00:00:00 Be the right club. Be the right club today. Ronnie, that's better than most. How about him? That is better than most. Better than most. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Laying Up live show presented,
Starting point is 00:00:42 as always by titleless. Solly here to put a boat, to flip the switch, if you will, on the 2026 President's Cup, joined by the biggest international fan. I know, bummed, I know this evening. Mr. T.C., hello, T. I thought I was a big international fan
Starting point is 00:00:57 and then I met you. I know. You've taken it to a whole other level. They just made more putts than us. There's no bandwagon I won't jump on. Big Randy is here. Hello, Big. Hey guys.
Starting point is 00:01:09 God, do we have a lot to talk about. I'm excited. The miracle of Medina. Can you believe it? Can you believe it? One of the greatest comebacks in President's Cup history and we're going to break it all down. Sports history, if you will.
Starting point is 00:01:22 DJ Pi made it out of the house. he's recovered and he spent the day on site at Medina as well. Calling in from the media center. Hello, DJ. Hello, guys. Good to be with you. Yeah, man. Team USA, serve pro did it.
Starting point is 00:01:35 Like, it never even happened out there at Medina. It was, what a day. What a day. Excited to talk about it. As mentioned, we are brought to you by title. It's the number one ball at the President's Cup and the most played driver, iron and wedge this week in Medina. Listen, I think one thing we're going to all agree on, I think anyone that likes international
Starting point is 00:01:54 golf competitions in any way would agree on. One good development we had this week was Jackson Coyven. Jackson Coyven, of course, plays a ProVee one golf ball and a bag full of tidalist clubs. He was the only undefeated American player. He had a clutch finish on Sunday, won three of the final seven holes to win his match. Two up to put a big red point up on the board. Club twirled it a couple times coming down the 18th hole. Get fit.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Go get fit at tidalist.com. There's a reason why these guys spend as much time as they do getting dotted into their equipment. There's a reason why we've become somewhat equipment junkies in terms of getting fit and making sure we have reasons to be in absolutely everything that we are using, including your gaping, including the golf ball you're using. It's worth it. I promise you, Titleist.com, go get fit. Thank you to Titles for supporting our live shows all year long. And this will be our final live show of the year. A little bit sad about that, guys. How about that? Where, what, uh, US makes the comeback, does it? Tell me, take me there,
Starting point is 00:02:53 Dege, what was the vibe like on site today? You were there from the, from the jump all the way through. Did you get to see all the golf. That's how those days on site go. But what can you tell us about what it was like on the ground? I would say, guys, and apologize. This is just going to be a blanket apology for any airplanes that are going over my head. It felt big.
Starting point is 00:03:11 I appreciate it. Of course. Well, thank you. It felt big. I know there's plenty of clowning on the President's Cup. I know you guys are going to have plenty of eye rolling to do about. the way this week went. But it did feel big today, genuinely.
Starting point is 00:03:27 There was big crowds. There was big excitement. There was big roars. There were pockets of just thrills and delights all across the golf course, Randy. It was a good venue. And it was fun and interesting for a while until the, you know, the flip happened until they flipped the switch. And then I think it was like, you know, the fan base.
Starting point is 00:03:48 I don't think the fan base necessarily feels the same way that we in the crooked media. feel, which is like, uh, this is much more about the bigger, larger narrative and where does this event go from here? And I can't believe that they didn't put this guy out in four ball when he clearly is a better four ball player. Like, nobody out there's doing that. Everybody's just like, oh, hell yeah, we won. We rocked them. We rocked them, baby. We rocked them. And, uh, I hadn't been to a team event in quite quite a while, definitely not a president's cup in a long time. And it was fun to be out there for that. I mean, it's as, as much cynicism as there is about this event, as much eye rolling as there is still fun to be at a team event on a Sunday when it's close you know it was
Starting point is 00:04:26 it felt big Chicago showed up for it which was very fun to see and uh that's that's where I'll start I'm going to start with start with the optimism it's still the highlight of the fall in terms of of golf in terms of public interest in it every other fall yeah yeah of this fall well you know if there's not going to be a rider in the running for I'll say the Walker Cup would be the highlight yeah I'm just yeah Cup's great, of course. Very cool, T.C. Dunhills next week?
Starting point is 00:04:57 I would say there's probably going to be more people watching the President's Cup and following along that we'll be for the Dunhill. But it doesn't mean it's perfect, but do you, the convenient narrative here is, which we saw this coming,
Starting point is 00:05:10 I think even as of Friday we said that I thought the internationals were going to win. T.C., you said the U.S. was going to come back and win. The narrative was going to be that the U.S. would win and feel like they learned nothing. I saw nothing in any post game that would make me think anything differently, including some of the questions that were asked towards some of the players. But is that the vibe on site deeds?
Starting point is 00:05:30 Like we rocked them. We got this. No issues here. Like we're good. Get me to a dare. Let's go. 100%. And it was kind of a weird one where again, it's like, I think there's, you know, not that the media
Starting point is 00:05:43 is biased or like they're rooting one way or the other, but they want it to be close. You know, they all have their own kind of. they're on kind of bent on it, I guess. And it's like once it became just so clear, like, oh, my God, like, here we go. It's happened again. I think that was definitely the vibe. It was a lot of Team USA coming out on the dais and just like, I can't believe we rocked him. And a lot of, there was almost like nothing to push against, you know?
Starting point is 00:06:10 Like, I feel like I go back to that Glenn Eagles presser as just kind of like, I mean, that's the peak, right? Let's go get like, we're throwing red meat to the wolves. let's let's go get it and it was just kind of like ah what a what a player man tell me about coven what a player yeah i don't think any of us were consulted on any decisions yeah oh i'm sorry you took it that way no that's not how i meant that at all and so i i think the natural kind of flip or the natural like am i am i going crazy
Starting point is 00:06:39 uh is just the narrative of like everybody thinks we can't play team golf and we're we don't know how to play as a team and I think we just showed them by having the biggest singles come back in the history of the event. I'm like, guys, I just don't think, I don't think those two things are aligned. And I don't think we're really taken much away from this. Fierick was asked what he would take away. And it was pretty platitude, you know, like, I hope they enjoy it. This is hard to, this is hard to do.
Starting point is 00:07:07 We had a big loss here, you know, in 2012. These aren't guaranteed. And but I love these guys. I love this group. That's why I want to be in it. I love being around these guys. And so I know it's raw and it's not like anybody's going to come out there and be like, well, here's the, I thought, honestly, I thought Seneca might trot out the nine point plan of like all the things that he messed up.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Because he kept alluding to it. And he just like, it wouldn't stop. It wouldn't stop talking about how bad he messed up without getting like into the specifics, which was interesting. He did say, I did hear him. Yeah. I did hear him say he should have put Bridgman out in four balls, which was the first time I heard him say that, which was good. He also did say specifically. It's like I put, I kept putting Scotty and Sam.
Starting point is 00:07:46 up and let Jeff dictate the strategy there, which is like, again, that's like the most obvious thing. And you also have four assistant captains that should say that part out loud to you. Like this was elementary stuff that was messed up here. Solly, that's what I don't get is like, I mean, all he did was like, woe is me. I spent so much of my free personal time over the last year and a half preparing for this captaincy. And I'm like, man, if you were spending that much time on this cabincy and you weren't thinking about pretty big rocks in the jar like that, then I don't know what the fuck you were doing. And I just don't think you're exuding great leadership when you are just on a knife's edge
Starting point is 00:08:30 every time a microphone gets put in front of you in a panic and saying some outrageous things into microphones over the last two days. I got no part. It was like, all right, they won. And I don't mean to railing the guy too too hard. Like it, you know, that could, out of context, that can look so they won by four points, ultimately at the end of the day, I do not think he did a good job. But like the captaincy just can't continue to go to the next nice guy up.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Like that's, Brantz, Denigres, by all by all accounts, a nice guy. Everybody loves him. I have no personal issues with him at all. But like, there's, there's, if, if you treat this, keep treating this captaincy like a ceremonial role like this, then you're going to
Starting point is 00:09:12 keep losing the Ryder Cup. And the President's up you're going to lose one eventually you'll probably lose the next one in australia like you i think if there's ever a time to pick the internationals to win it's the next one when they get back to australia and this was a win on paper like technically but i think this was absolute loss for the u.s they had a not even a miraculous final day like they were always going to win singles whether or not it was going to be enough to raise the deficit was the question but the team was that much better on paper and you got outclassed on almost all the analytical moves to lose to be down the three points after team play at home with the on-paper advantage you have just speaks to the entire
Starting point is 00:09:50 situation. And yes, the comeback is going to help paper over that. And I don't think they're going to learn the lesson. I saw nothing this week that'll make me change my mind that a dare is going to go any differently. And again, the press room is not like a, it's not a conversation, right? Like it's throwing out questions and maybe getting an answer. And it's like, I fully understand and if I was in their shoes, I would be sitting on that day as saying like, let's talk about the comeback. And I'm like, that's not what's interesting about this. I know you guys, you guys play great. Beat the shit out of them today. Amazing. Great job. Came together as a team. A lot of good golf played by the squad. But man, how did we get to that spot? Came together as a team to play
Starting point is 00:10:30 well individually. Yes, exactly. It's just that, that, uh, how did we go down three going to the singles? It's just fascinating to me. And, and I think it, I said this, uh, last night, I think, got It feels like it was six days ago. But the, I mean, it just sets us up for a really fun year. I'm very fun for the writer. We should start the Rider Cup discourse yesterday.
Starting point is 00:10:54 You know, I mean, I'm just, I can't get enough of it. It's going to be the most fun cycle ever. I just, I'm so in. Randy,
Starting point is 00:11:01 what say you? And Keegan got the last, like the last word. They asked the last question of Keegan. And Keegan got to, got to stamp him, you know, stamp his imprint on this thing once more.
Starting point is 00:11:14 I thought he had a fine answer. Yeah, I thought he was totally. He should be shot into outer space. I'm going to not sign that take. I thought that was, I thought it was a totally fine answer, and he was a class act. Randy?
Starting point is 00:11:29 Yeah, listen. To Captain Snetiker, I don't know what, I don't know how this week looks different than showing up and rolling the balls out this week. Like, if you had told me zero prep, we're just going to let guys kind of pick and choose their partners on Thursday.
Starting point is 00:11:48 We'll just roll with it. I don't know how it's materially different than anything we saw this week. That kind of would have been sick. Yeah, right, right. If they just came out and said, hey, like, we're going to let these guys just totally call it. It might have. And, you know, have fun. Because I think that was the other thing.
Starting point is 00:12:07 It was like the worst of both worlds. It was like, we are totally unprepared. We're making all the wrong decisions. But also, like, I'm. going to squeeze the all of the fun and just add a bunch of attention to this thing and and you know i yeah i i've sticking on the snedeker stuff for a second i i think he's there's two interesting things to me one it seemed like he just kind of either read a management book or had somebody in his ear about like make sure you take you're the captain you take the responsibility and he just supercharged that to a billion
Starting point is 00:12:42 And it was like, I'm going to put it on me at any turn, which is funny and got interesting because it seemed like maybe it went a little too far. And then all he got asked about was just like, why do you keep talking about how bad of a job you did? So that was a fun flywheel that kind of kept going. But the other thing was like he kept saying before that, just like, all I just want to make these guys comfortable. I just need to remind these guys who they are. I just need to tell them they're the best players in the world, let them go out and do it. And I was talking. to a couple people here today
Starting point is 00:13:13 and thinking back to the stricker captaincy at Whistling Straits because I think he said a lot of the same stuff. And I think it was just basically the vibe was like, if you get a ping pong table, you fucking let these guys go out there and do it. It's not that hard.
Starting point is 00:13:27 They're the best players in the world. And now I think, you know, we got some hindsight. Let's take a step back and realize that that was on home soil. That was against probably the worst European team in recent memory, for sure. There were no European fans there
Starting point is 00:13:41 because of COVID. And your team was like better. Globetrotters. Like I just don't. Like I do think that was probably good enough for that team. Yeah. And now I think Ryder Cup Europe has taken leaps and bounds since that moment. The international team has taken leaps and bounds since that moment.
Starting point is 00:14:00 And I think the U.S. is still kind of like, yeah, that's good. That's good enough, man. What are you talking about? And I think you just see like how much smaller the margin is now between like the talent, you know, the, the letting the talent. do it, letting the vibes do it, and like all the little things you can do along the edges. There's been a massive decline. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:18 There's been a massive decline in Jordan Speeth's game, Justin Thomas's game, Conmore Cowell's game, Zander Schaftley, and Patrick Cantley in that since that time. And Justin Johnson went 5 and 0 on that team. He's gone. Brooks Keppka's game decline. Burger was a part of that team, not a massive part of it. Big tone, of course. Big Tom, Bryson played well in that Ryder Cup kind of the only one he's ever played well in. with Scotty like there's just not a lot left from that there's not a lot of not a lot of stuff
Starting point is 00:14:46 walking back through that door so I do think it's like yeah you could get away with it but I also think that both stricter teams 2017 Presidents Cup and and 2021 Rider Cup like they ran the stats playbook very well like they they did and they had the talent on their side but they ran they ran the play and it was pretty easy to understand exactly what they were doing and the players seemed pretty set on it and it just didn't seem to have these stuck in the mud friendship pairings. Like they broke up J.T. and Spieth at Wilson Straits, which was like a little bit surprising,
Starting point is 00:15:17 considering their success that they'd had it in 2018 at the Ryder Cup. And they weren't afraid to do that because the math said to do something different. So, yeah, I, I just, I think we could have done without Snedd telling PGA tour radio, this team's going to be a problem in Ireland. Oh, sick. Because if anything, the takeaway from this week is that the team is, in worse trouble in Ireland than I thought going into it. I was going to, I was like,
Starting point is 00:15:46 I was standing right there as soon as he said that, I'm like, that's going to look really funny in like black and white print. It's like that you could, you could, that's all about your inflection, man. This team's going to be a problem or this team,
Starting point is 00:15:57 this team is going to be a problem. All you have to do is not give them a quote that they're going to put up in their team room in that moment after you were down to the internationals at home, dude. Like you haven't won a way of your cup. Spondent. On Saturday night. In what world do you think this team's about to be a problem for them?
Starting point is 00:16:17 Like they just, oh man, without changing things. That's the point. Like, that's the overall thing. Like the obvious takeaway here is you cannot let this win paper over. Hopefully the lessons should have been learned over this past week. But I'd be surprised if they learn. Which is where I think, like you do have to credit the internationals to an extent on that front. We've shouted it out, you know, the last three times we've played this President's Cup,
Starting point is 00:16:44 but it's like they haven't just like gotten beaten 13 times in a row and be like, I don't know. I think what we're doing is pretty good. Better keep going. Like they have tried to change. They have tried to do different things. They've tried to wake guys up in different ways and get creative. And again, like win on the margins and do all these different things.
Starting point is 00:17:01 And so it's, it's all you said it. You said it the other night, but it's like, do you know how shocking it is that after Europe does it? They go on every podcast and they talk about exactly how they do it. You know, internationals are not necessarily in the same way, but they're not shy about like sharing details. And it's the U.S. just still,
Starting point is 00:17:20 it's just like, no, I think we're rocking them, man. No notes. I don't think there are any details. Right. I don't think there's anything to share.
Starting point is 00:17:29 I think it's just, I think it's just saying like, why am we learning from what they're doing? Yeah, it's all out there is what I'm saying. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:36 And they're just not like picking up any. US is like, hey, we're, we're, like, whenever they win, it's just like, yeah, we won because we were better. And, and we were a, we were a tight-knit team, you know. Tired of people saying this team's not tight-knit. And again, if I had to bottom line it, like, just making sure these guys are comfortable, just, you know, these guys are the best players in the world. I just want to stay out of their way and let them do their thing. My, if I had to just put a sentence together that was like my take on this thing is, I think that is 100% dead wrong. I think from the jump, you have to do everything in your power to
Starting point is 00:18:07 deliver the message to these men that this is a different week than everything. What you normally do isn't going to work here. We're running a different race here. Your role is going to be different. The routine is going to be different. I'll do whatever I can to get you comfortable. I want to make sure you get your sleep and we'll make the commute short and we'll do if you need rest. And if you need a rest of a certain session.
Starting point is 00:18:28 I'll do all that. But like it is going to be a different week and I need you to be a different person this week. Like instead of just saying out loud the exact opposite of that and wondering why it keeps going wrong when you have massive talent advantages. Again, we could talk about it for another hour of how big the gap was this week. This was like the biggest gap we've had in any of these events. And they still almost lost on home soil. Even as of an hour and a half before the final, when they clinched it, the odds were in
Starting point is 00:18:57 the international's favor. Like it flipped there pretty quickly. Hadeki's match getting away was really, really hurtful to the internationals. But like this was closer even than the final score is going to, going to indicate here. Yeah, agree. I saw Porter recirculating this too, but it's the, it's the ROM quote from the Ryder Cup, right?
Starting point is 00:19:16 Where it's like every U.S. team seems to go into this, be like, I just need to remind these guys who they are, what they're about, how they can come in and do it. And ROM's, ROM's whole thing was like, no, the reason Europe works is because everybody forgets who they are. And everybody shows up and they just sell out for the team. And they just, nobody's, nobody's got an ego. Nobody's got anything. It's, like you're saying, different week.
Starting point is 00:19:37 I just think that's that's the way to think about it. Which, which again, I think like, maybe I'm why I'm like most passionate about it at this point. It's like we kind of need, that's like the table stakes or else like you're not going to make this. This event's not going to be very interesting. The Ryder Cubs is not going to be that interesting.
Starting point is 00:19:53 If you don't like seriously challenge them, this is going to be the one. I think a lot of people coming off 2021 thought 23. I'd certainly thought they were going to win that one. That was silly. I'm aware of that. I live that every day. I don't think any,
Starting point is 00:20:06 I don't think. Are there going to be like any U.S. fans that I think we're going over there to kick their ass anymore? I think they've lost pretty much. I heard a lot of them today. I heard there were going to be a problem. Yeah. Yeah. Brandy, any thoughts on that?
Starting point is 00:20:23 Well, listen, a lot of this discussion is actual Rider Cup discussion. Are we ready to talk about like this president's cup? Because the international team kind of gagged. And they did not show up. And they need to, like, we need to call out names and point some fingers. It was pretty disgraceful. I mean, first of all, you've lost 11 straight president's cups. Like, this is Washington Generals versus Harlem Globetrotter shit.
Starting point is 00:20:55 It's embarrassing. It really is embarrassing. You have four and a half continents worth of people to draw from, and this is the best we can do. I thought, T.C. Where's Australian men's golf? I've been sounding the alarm for two years, big. Yeah. Have some pride Australia.
Starting point is 00:21:14 What an embarrassing, embarrassing time to be an Australian men's pro golf fan. I just think like, what is this? What are we doing? I don't know. Let's get into some of that. I thought I could not have, the international team could not have just shrank more. because Solly, as you said, they were in a spot where they could close this out. And it wasn't freaking close.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Like when it really mattered, it wasn't close. Well, I think, I mean, Randy, to your point, like, we were very confused last night as to some of the, or you guys were, I was doing on the show. I was watching along. I was like, hell yeah, I agree. You were confused. I was confused. You guys were confused, too, of like, why, why Snetter would just put. sheffler out and then just allow them to choose, you know, pick and choose whoever they wanted
Starting point is 00:22:10 to put against him to waste someone. And, you know, obviously things worked out from a just like, they just got out. Like I think, I think the internationals probably could have frontloaded it a little bit more. But overall, like, they just got straight up beat. It didn't matter who the fuck they were trotting out when, where anything. They just got their asses kicked. I tried to run an analysis on like if with hindsight if this guy played this guy today how could the internationals have won and there like there was a technical way but it was quite unrealistic of like from a strategy perspective you would not have done that if you were oglevy and it's it's impossible like straight i think the numbers say for today um in the actual day like the u.s made 55 birdies
Starting point is 00:22:54 uh and like 21 bogies are worse that's always a hard one to kind of determine just because there's there's concessions and things like that international's only made 46 spurtees and 25 bogeys are worse. So that's, I mean, that's a massive gap right there. That's 13 shots or so right there, at least between the two. And yeah, it was just a, but to your point, Randy, like, where Ogilvie was asked about the identity of this team afterwards and he said something about like our identity is a group of professionals that have to travel the world to fulfill their, fulfill their dreams.
Starting point is 00:23:29 And I'm paraphrasing that, of course. But like that is a note in here of like home field advantage. It's one country versus, you know, this group of guys get does get to play almost all their golf in the U.S. On on U.S. courses doesn't have to be out of their comfort zone very often in terms of where they're living and where they're traveling in a lot of places. And also a team that has been decimated by live golf. Part of the reason why it has been decimated is that exact fact. Like the international players were not as loyal to the U.S. pGA tour and they lost more talent than the u.s lost out of that so it was already lopsided
Starting point is 00:24:06 and then it got a lot more lopsided uh with with live and cam young was supposed to be the australian prince that was promised and he not only left for live but also lost his game uh yeah what i say camp young oh yeah cam smith um you know it that's where i'm like dude i i still tip my cap to ogle v emmellman the whole group i i get all that it's the whole world though it's the world This is the best you're getting from the whole world. I mean, they don't even play. It's because you won't let anybody grow the game, big. You kind of sound like Scott O'Neill.
Starting point is 00:24:39 Like, I'm betting on the six million. We've been growing the game for 40 years. I guess we're not growing it well enough. I, come on. Big, I think where I, my internet went out during the beginning of your screed there, but I trust it was good. I think what's kind of a bummer for the internationals
Starting point is 00:24:59 is that they have to wear this whereas like the the PJ tour should be wearing this like they made up the competition they set the rules they do all of these like they've made the bed here and if you can't look at this after like 30 years and be like oh maybe we didn't make a great bed like that's that's tough to keep
Starting point is 00:25:17 kind of trotting out a team that has to be like all right well let's see if we can get them this time and they've changed the people gotta have an off night it's the whole thing like macro speaking like it's soulless it's do like what are we doing this for you know what that's a conversation but yeah when it when it comes down to it like i just need a little bit more it gosh i have you know i'm a gold card carrying pjta tour simp here but if i if i may say like what they one thing i do like about the president's
Starting point is 00:25:46 cup though is they don't let the home field advantage set up wise get out of control like sneds had a little bit of say coming into the week but he has no say over whole locations as a week of you know doesn't manage to throw the ground can you imagine if they're did. Yeah, I know. It would be bad. And so I think, I feel like, I feel like the setup as it relates to the golf was a big variety. Like what Europe did and Marco Simone, it was smart, but it was like manipulating the teas. So there weren't wedges into the greens, either making, either making par force drivable or having everybody play from 180. It's like, all right, man. Like, what, can we just play golf? Like, wouldn't it be more interesting if the golf was, was the star here? And that's where I do
Starting point is 00:26:27 give the President's Cup the advantage. Now, it's also completely embarrassing that the U.S. messed that up at Bethpage when they had the same opportunity. That's not me. Sorry, I do think the, like the tour for the first time they got the, they got the venue right, state side or, you know, here in North America, because even Royal Montreal, like, that's been a disaster. So, like, they finally got the venue right. And it was almost maybe a little bit by accident. Like, they had an Australian firm.
Starting point is 00:26:55 If you listen to NBC, it's Jeff Ogilvy doing all the work. but Ogilvy cocking and mead, mead cocking and mead. But I think that was a big part of why this was watchable this week was because it was a really, really interesting, fun, dynamic venue. And of course that they could manipulate daily to show, like 12 was brilliant all week.
Starting point is 00:27:21 12 was even more brilliant today. And that was the story of the day. And like the internationals were all laying up. And they were all winning the hole. And then I think the U.S. finally got wind of that and started playing a little bit more patiently and conservatively. And I thought that was interesting. The par threes were awesome. It was, yeah, like I thought the course was the story in a good way this week and made for, it just made for a better scale.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Right. And I think we should see that at Kingston Heath in two years. And then I don't think we're going to see that at Belrieve just because I think Bel Reef, like, Bel Reef just doesn't have this going on with the greens. Kingston Heath might need to be the walkoff for this event. But the, T.C. to your point, I was out here today and it's like everybody knows when you come to like one of these singles days, it's like you're going to see what you're going to see. Like, who knows?
Starting point is 00:28:18 You've got to kind of declare bankruptcy at the beginning of the day and just everything's a bonus. So in a way, you're like, I guess I can just kind of wander around and see. whatever I want. And I did that for a while. And then when the first match got to 12, I was like, I think I'm just, I'm good. I'm just going to stay right here for about two and a half, three hours. Like, this is, this is great. And you could sit there on 12 and watch all the different strategies of the different guys playing it. Like, even guys pushing it up into that front bunker, which like looked okay. And even you heard one of the U.S. captains before any matches had gotten there being like front bunkers totally fine. And then you see like two guys try to play out of there
Starting point is 00:28:55 and they have no chance of getting it close from there because you're coming right down this downslope. Shout out to the American captains. But the, and then not only that, but you're standing there on 13, which was, like, I feel like it's so, it's so rare for par three's to be interesting on the PJ tour. Usually they're just brutish and hard.
Starting point is 00:29:15 And that was British and hard. But it was like, I just kept watching every guy try to hit directly at that flag. And occasionally guys hit genuinely brilliant shots. that went to 30 feet, 40 feet, like, just no chance. You had to stop it in like a Kleenex box. And then your reward was like maybe it stopped 25 feet from the hole. Whereas, like, Scotty was kind of the first guy to look at it and be like,
Starting point is 00:29:38 dude, I'm just going to play to the right. Like, play to the right. Use that slope. Like, that's such a cleaner way to play this. Drawing. Whereas Siwu was, you got there in Coyvin. I think it played out to the right, maybe just like long right. And Cee Woo goes right at it.
Starting point is 00:29:54 pimp steps it club twirls it uh and just 30 feet short like into the into the kind of like the hay i mean it was just it was great but watching like sam burns was twisted up and knots he came up so far short uh because it was just a little breath of wind and anyways it's like being out there again today we've said it a million times but just remembering that those two par threes that were just identical shots and seeing like that you made it you took that same land and up to the value 100x from what from what they had before it was just kind of sums up the week for me which i think is a great reminder for people because sometimes it can get lost a little bit like sometimes the competition is really good on a pretty mediocre golf course or or a bland
Starting point is 00:30:43 setup with pins in the middle of the greens close and really close competition yeah yeah close competition but man like i i felt like there were there were a lot of spots where it was like no like you Like, it was separators. Like, like, I don't think there were a lot of holes. Like, there's no statistical evidence to back this up. But I felt like we had less tied matches and less tied holes this week. And we've had in a lot of previous team competitions over the last five, six years. And hold, hold, holes one with par.
Starting point is 00:31:16 Like, I think that's good match play. Like, I said, I've said this this week. Like, the worst kind of like four ball matches is just like everyone on the green. and we're just going to take an hour for everyone to put out and put from from mid-range. And it just becomes a putting contest. And this was like not a piece of shit putting contest at all. It just felt like you had to strike the ball this week. And if you didn't, you were going to pay off the tea and you were going to pay around the greens as well.
Starting point is 00:31:41 Not only nice and firm. That's what I was going to say. Jeff said in the press series, like, I've genuinely never seen a golf course change this much from Monday to Sunday. Like it's, they were on the like on the air. edge almost and it wasn't windy even. I mean, it was like, which I think T.C., when you and I played it, it's a media day. Pins are kind of, pins are fine, but greens are fairly soft, whatever. And I'm looking at it and I'm like, like, man, JT shot at what, 27 under here, 28 under or something. And now they've, you know, they've widened it and they've made the
Starting point is 00:32:13 greens bigger and they've done all these different things and half par holes. And I was like, man, if they bring another stroke event here, like could be a blood bath. And man, I feel the opposite after watching this. I mean, it was like a very, very proper test, which was great. I think we get pissed,
Starting point is 00:32:28 I think we get pissed because guys don't have to hit enough long irons anymore. You gotta hit a lot of long irons out there. But you got to, there's some long par fours that guys were hitting three woods off of because they're worried about runouts
Starting point is 00:32:38 and they're worried about, you know, finding bunkers and the way bunkers were placed in interesting places just made some bunkers worthy of taken on and some not worthy of taken on. And that, I found that part interesting.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Even like the four ball scores were not, I don't know if anybody reached double digits under par in a four ball match even uh which again so like i don't think you're getting you're definitely not getting too many stroke play rounds that get get really deep but yeah once we're a little worried about it early in the week once the sun came out and started like drying the place out just even a little bit it wasn't massively firm but sun's sun coming out was a massive difference maker and no matter the forecast you can live like the sun's always out with high noon high noon is made with real vodka and real tequila unlike other popular seltzer and hard tea brands delivering a
Starting point is 00:33:21 clean finish and a refreshing taste. High noon is available in vodka, seltzer, tequila seltzer, and non-carbonated vodka iced tea, all under 100 calories and with crisp, delicious flavors for any occasion under the sun.
Starting point is 00:33:33 What are you waiting for? Text your friends, make some plans and pick up a pack of high noon on the way. You can go to high noon spirits.com to find high noon near you. It's in honor of our guy, Dub, I don't know when the next time I'm going to be able to bust out some grape is.
Starting point is 00:33:46 So I'm on grape tonight. I got the transfusion one. I got lemon left. Okay. Yeah. Might of beach. You're trying to make some lemonade out tonight. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:56 Yeah. So, a question for you. Our guy Peter Costas, P.K. I haven't heard of him in a while. He was on X, the everything app. And I actually agreed with this take. He said, paraphrasing here, but basically that the Euros have an advantage
Starting point is 00:34:12 because they don't have to play a team competition every year. I totally agree with that they get to wait and have that longing for it. and, you know, be able to rest every other year and all that. And I think that there's something there. It's versus every year for the U.S. is just like you don't have that chance to wait or that chance for almost different eras to start and begin. It's always in flux every year, right?
Starting point is 00:34:42 I totally agree with this take. I think the president's cup and winning it every year also just lets you pat yourself on the back and not feel the hunger, little bit going into Rider Cups. And I think it's where I think this has the biggest effect is it is a little harder for the guys that play in all of these to truly get up come week of, I guess especially for the President's Cup. When you're supposed to win, it's just kind of hard to fake the energy and, you know, it just kind of feels like, you know, punching down a little bit.
Starting point is 00:35:11 It's like celebrating too much when you're a two touchdown favorite in an NFL game. Like it just kind of feels unsportsmanlike. And it just kind of makes showing up for the Ryder Cup. just the same thing, but with more pressure without the ability to, you know, ramp up to it and really just let yourself feel like you're building up to it in some way. I totally agree that they get a little bit muted to the process and just tend to tell themselves they know how to do these weeks because they've done it a bunch, yet they've just done it a bunch in kind of all the wrong way that we don't need to relitigate. But that's, I agree with Peter.
Starting point is 00:35:47 And I think on that note, too, it's like, I think that. the you know some of the solutions that have been bandied about for the president's cup or like should we take this international like it should should every single one be held internationally and you move it around the world more often and all that all that's going to do is just wear out the u.s team yet more right and so i don't think that's workable um you maybe you bring more regions or or countries or whatever and you make it more into like the old world cup space kind of thing um but you know what's that space space space space yeah Yeah. Either way, I think Roll-Up and the gang are, I think they're going to get the schedule lockdown. And then I think they're turning their focus to the TV product and the President's Cup next. I mean, I think, again, what's, go ahead, Rainey, sorry. No, my idea would be to make the Ryder Cup and the President's Cup every four years and then have one every two years. I don't think you're going to get a lot of accountants to agree with that.
Starting point is 00:36:55 No, right. But that's where when you start from this is a cash grab, like none of this matters. Totally agree. Which is what I was kind of the other side of the same coin I was going to say is like if you, if you go back to everything Rolap has said, it all comes back to competition, fan engagement, like easy to understand all these things. And I'm just, I'm, I have no idea. I'm very curious, like, the litmus test.
Starting point is 00:37:23 The guy was out there standing on the first tee next to the president of the United States for two hours today. Just watching it all go down. And I'm like very curious when he lays that filter over all of this. Like, what do you think? What is it? What did you think? You know, because Thursday and Friday, we're pretty sleepy out there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:40 But it has its moments, right? I mean, it's just not all black or black or white. I mean, it is, it is a good event. It's a well-run event. it's a lot of people really enjoy it. It's probably a big moneymaker. It gets the international players, like the international stars of the PJ tour, playing in a big team event.
Starting point is 00:37:58 I mean, I think, like, the easy, one of the easy winners from this week is Jackson Coyvin because he got to do amazing things, like, in front of a huge audience in team golf. Say the same thing for Tom Kim and Siwu Kim and some of these other guys that, like, have a harder time standing out on a week-to-week stroke play, you know, sort of environment. And so it's just, yeah, I don't think it's like, I see all the reasons why the, maybe obvious statement. I see all the reasons why the PJ tour does it. And it's not as easy to just be like, well, wipe it off for, you know, it's not as easy as being like, we're not going back to Hawaii. But they did that, you know.
Starting point is 00:38:35 And I'm curious just kind of how the debrief goes, I guess, the audit. Yeah, I don't think it sucks. I just think, yeah, it's a very interesting thing that you're weighing of, is it easy to understand? Not really for the common fan. could it be a lot better? Yeah. Like in some of the stuff that's like like when it's really good, it's almost this confluence of events instead of that being the norm.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Yeah. Right. I honestly, I believe this. I think like the president, Tom Kim might have contributed like helping save the president's cup. Like the last three presidents cup would have honestly been super bleak. If not for the life he injected and the putts he's made and the.
Starting point is 00:39:14 And Siwu, I would say. Yeah. As well. but in the same like I think Tom brought that out of Siwu like in a way as well but I mean they're not a lot to show for it at the end of the day but I still think it at least made it interesting if this thing's about like growing the game worldwide
Starting point is 00:39:28 they've had one of these in Korea they've had two at Rome Montreal they've had which the one in Korea came down to the last put and was like the best yeah it's about money and they've never had one in Japan they haven't had one in you know South Africa's fraught these days but like they haven't had one South Africans since 03.
Starting point is 00:39:48 Japan would be awesome. Right? Go back to Korea. Go to Japan. There's so many places you could go that, but if we're in Montreal, no, we're just going to go.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Like, that's where it's like, all right, if this is going to be the, the version of the President's Cup that we're sticking with, then at least go to fucking interesting places. Which again is where I'm like,
Starting point is 00:40:06 that's where I come back to like, man, it's hard to be Ryan Fox on the dais at the end of that. Like, why did you get your ass kicked? Dude, come on, man. I don't know. It's a pretty tough deck to try to stab.
Starting point is 00:40:20 Yeah. So taste it, Randy. I just think philosophically, what is it? 14-1-1, the history of this event. Of course. It's beautiful. It just can't be a good event. And I don't, I, it's to the point where it's only interesting in what it could be. And I don't think it's that interesting in what it is. And that's a shame.
Starting point is 00:40:42 It's really very well said. Yeah. Let's get through the matches from today. The first match out, the internationals put out Rio Hizatsatsune, Hussatsune. I need to get better at this one. This is one I think we've all bungled quite a bit, including the broadcasters. But Hatsatsune against Cameron Young, we had some questions last night about putting Cam out against Rio, kind of viewed as one of the more closer to bottom tier guys on the international side.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Cam, obviously being maybe one or two top guys, was the top. American by far in this president's cup. Rio got up quickly. He made birdie on three and four, but Cam birdied five and six to tie it. Then he won 11, 12, and 13. And also, yeah, then he drained a bomb on 16 to win at three and two. Gave a great Cameron Young fist pump. And that was the first point on the board, made it 10 and a half, eight and a half in that one. So put that in the, again, who are the big winners this week?
Starting point is 00:41:41 Cameron Young. Cam Young, tip of the spear, your first guy out, getting what you hope you're going to get from a guy like that. I mean, it was just awesome. He was asked about that in the press conference as well, gave one of the best answers we heard from an American in the last 10 years in matchplay events, I think, of just like what I love about this format is everything's so definitive. Everything is, every putt means something directly. And going out first is extremely definitive for me of I don't have to play hypothetical. Again, paraphrasing what's going on behind me. have to go out and get a point for my team.
Starting point is 00:42:14 And that seems to help lock in his focus. And he is just the dude, the prince who has promised, the guy we've been waiting for. And I don't know if we've given them enough flowers of like, we've got a guy. We just need like that guy. The problem with the U.S. has been like, we need you to get off the bus in Ireland on a road rider cup. Because that's what's up next. And like, you've been great for these last two team events. And we need the same guy to show up in Ireland.
Starting point is 00:42:38 That's the only way the U.S. is going to have a chance. and I'm still not convinced. This whole thing should be about identification of dudes. Which I think we identified a couple. We did. Yeah. Next up, the U.S. puts up Wyndham Clark. The internationals match with Tom Kim.
Starting point is 00:42:56 Tom Kim won this match three and two. Wyndham birded the second, but Kim birdied the third. Windham birdied six. That put him one up, but he bogeed eight. They were tied at the turn. Kim turned it on there. He birdied nine, ten, and twelve. also won the 11th with a par that got him to two up
Starting point is 00:43:11 pared the 14th that got him to three up when I made him put it from like 10 feet on the 16th green when he only needed to two putt it from there that was a little little much but Tom Kim wins it three and two that was the that was the third total point that was settled rainy I know you like to go in order of when the matches were settled here I can go back to that order if you'd like me to but no that's okay another dude Tom Kim all in I'm a Tom Kim fan
Starting point is 00:43:38 and I don't care who knows it. I need to announce it to the world. Thank you. Randy, I'm not far behind you, big guy. Yes. Smiley said like these guys kind of leaked oil coming in. I thought it was the opposite. I thought they save some of their best golf for that 9 through 15
Starting point is 00:43:53 stretch. I thought Tom Kim wasn't doing a bunch of performative bullshit. He was just like he was good. He was just really good. And he seems like he's matured a lot and it seems like he was just playing within himself
Starting point is 00:44:10 and not trying to get the crowd needlessly riled up. He was like, no, I'm just going to go do my own shit and not, not call a bunch more attention to it that's going to then reverberate back on my teammates and,
Starting point is 00:44:24 you know, raise the stakes for them, which I loved. He was a delight all week. He still slow shit, but he was... I think that works in team play, to your point,
Starting point is 00:44:32 TC, and for singles, he was extremely even keel today and didn't. not creating the on the road. On the road. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:44:37 yeah. He brings the antics on the road. He brought the antics on the road at Quail Hollow. And he did some antics. I know. But that was four years ago and he was what,
Starting point is 00:44:46 like 12 years old at the time? Yeah. No, but I'm saying it works in the team, even the early part of this, but singles, Paul McGinley was talking about that in the booth today too. It was good analysis of like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:44:56 make this put and don't, you don't need to do anything in this part of the golf course right now that's going to get this crowd. That was the best analysis of the day. Yeah. I thought McGinley is what he did like an hour a hit on there. That was great.
Starting point is 00:45:07 I was bummed to see him leave the booth. Tom Kim was the best player in strokes gained in Sunday singles here today and he left early as off to the Asian games. I say this full throat, go fucking win the Asian games and get out of your military service. I think we golf should be rooting for that. I think
Starting point is 00:45:23 golf scene is much better. We've seen that have an effect on some Korean players careers and I don't want to see that happen to Tom Kim. Real talk. They should, the Korean government should add if you win a president's cup on an international team, you're exempt for military service.
Starting point is 00:45:44 That might be harder than winning an Asian games or an Olympic gold medal at this point. Or if you're in the U.S. and you lose a president's cup, you will be enlisted into the military. Yeah, exactly. If you listen to Snedz a little bit, he, he, he. That's what it sounded like. Boys were serving the country. He said something. He fought for their country this week.
Starting point is 00:46:05 Cody, I'm curious if you had any input watching that, you know, watching some fellow servicemen like the United States golfers out there this week. It's not behind the seat shaking his head at me. He's not one to weigh in. A little fast and loose with the cliches. Let me just say it one more time.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Tom Kim, four points. Nobody else got to that level. I played all five sessions. Like, could not be more impressed. This is Ernie Banks on the Cubs. This is Miles Garrett on the Browns. Tom Kim was the man this week. It's Jerry Biden on the Reds, Randy, too.
Starting point is 00:46:39 We can't we can't sidestep that. Match three, Corey Connors against Justin Thomas. JT jumped all over him early. He won the first two holes with PARs. Been made birdie on three and four. He got to five up through six with a birdie. Then he birdied nine and ten. Had it to five up through that moment as well.
Starting point is 00:46:59 He ends up winning five and three. This was the second point on the board, made it ten and a half, nine and a half and an early statement from JT and a statement from Corey Connors that was not a strong one.
Starting point is 00:47:11 I think our I think our foursums you know performance I think we would have gone toe to toe to toe with Corey Connors today. I think that's right. Yeah I think it would have been a
Starting point is 00:47:25 knockdown drag out. I've never felt more vindicated on just like I've seen into this guy's soul and I know exactly who he is as a golfer. It's always hard, right? When it's like, you know, the stats say this guy's a bad putter. And so every time he has a puttter, you're like, well, he's probably going to miss because he's a bad putter. Obviously, that's not how golf works.
Starting point is 00:47:46 But then some days you're like, damn, dude. Whoa. He is a bad footer. It's not good. I mean, he missed what? Like three inside of, he missed a three footer today. And it's just that three to five feet, right? Like, that's where he's statistically the worst on tour.
Starting point is 00:48:02 I think he's bad across the board, but that's where he's especially bad. He was the worst player in the field putting today by three full shots. He was minus 4.6 on the greens today alone. Is Canada killing Cory Connors? That's part of my problem is, you know, I feel like these guys, we have so many different countries. They're representing this team. Everybody's just happy. They have somebody on the team.
Starting point is 00:48:25 You know, who's Corey Conner's taking heat from up in Canada? I need the Canadians on his ass. No, I, Randy, I have had some Canadians reason out, you know, finding community and Nick Taylor, massive have today from, from him. Nick showed up. Nick showed up. Nick showed up, but, but man, Corey, a lot of them were denouncing Corey. They're calling him Jupiter Corey. He lives down there. But man, he's just, I just, I don't, I don't want to ever see him wear the shield ever again. I'm going to go that far with it. I think that's right, Tron. We're good. Records fucking horrible. We'll lose with other. people. Did he play all five this week, too?
Starting point is 00:49:05 He did. He came in at nine and seven, I'm sorry, two and seven coming into this week. A big difference in that. And this week, he went two and three. So he moves to four and ten career in the president's cup. But pretty much everybody on the international side's record kind of looked somewhat similar to that. But I hear you there.
Starting point is 00:49:25 Match four. Scotty Sheffler was put out first. Ogilvy famously followed this with Nico. Echeverria. Scotty birdied five of the first 10 holes, got all the bit of four up. Interesting moment this match, Fane yelled in Nico's back swing on 14, ends up blowing it way right. Scottie ended up conceding him a 30-footer for par and the half on that hole. Nico proceeded to chip in on 16 when he was looking like he was going to lose the match there. It took it to 17 there. Scott didn't like being asked about this, both after the round and in the presser.
Starting point is 00:49:58 Yeah. And said there's no spot for. for it in this game and didn't want to be asked about it. Then was asked, you know, about sitting on Saturday afternoon and he snaps back at Carabanks. Like, do you want to talk about today's match? I did just play some golf in a very weird moment postgame that I just was unsettling. It was very snippy and it was just not, not good. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:50:24 It's, it's credit to Scott. He got a lot to be antagonistic or I. Tron, you made a good point on Slack, so I don't want to step on it. But just like, what an opportunity for Schifler to, you know, speak to the American fans, kind of set a different tone on days like this. Like, hey, here's what we're about. We don't do shit like that. We cheer for our team.
Starting point is 00:50:49 You know, like give an impassioned thing of like here's our values as American golf fans. Yeah. Yeah. And instead he's like offended that he's even asked about it. that and just that he wasn't there was no chance to ask in media yesterday about sitting you know he was not made available for for you know media after sitting yesterday and so carabanks asked him a fair question i think on air um you know maybe not the most pressing question but like you don't get to pick the questions scy that's kind of the deal like the journalist there's asking the questions
Starting point is 00:51:22 just just answer it man i don't know he wants to be asked about beating the shit out of nico etchavaria today. That's sure. I feel for our guy Nico. I like Nico and I think I think my guy might be just totally lost off the tea. Sounds like I heard some why words circling the property. It's just not it's not good with the with the driver which I don't know if that's like a I don't know if that just popped up. That's like a man how do you get a captain's pick with a guy who can't drive the ball is just again international teams in a tough spot congratulations team USA but like there's a couple moments like that words like that's that's who you beat that that shit was like that's why you're gonna like scotty wouldn't have gotten away with the back nine probably against a Justin Rose or Tommy
Starting point is 00:52:12 Fleetwood or one of these guys that he's going to play in the rider cup like it just it shouldn't have even been as close as some of these matches were I mean scottie did play well today um I think it like in that opportunity is great opportunity to say like yeah it was was i did not not play my best golf i and i've not been great in fours i understand why the captain did we did i'm i'm here for team golf and i'm here to help my team in any way that i possibly could i was glad to get a point on the board today um and blah blah blah like that's all you got to do in that's such an easy answer even even if like you don't truly even if you're pissed right it's such an easy answer yeah yeah so and then and then i don't know i and props to nico for
Starting point is 00:52:52 like hanging in there he got four down and took it all the way to 17 which made a couple of birdies down the stretch as well. And yeah, yeah, we like we got to have some sort of wild card or something, something like, hey, you can pluck this guy from the U.S. team or there's only eight singles. Should have. It should have enveloped them. It could, but yeah, there's got to be like. Should have done the hovelwood, the hovel with WD.
Starting point is 00:53:18 Can you get like, can we make it like FIFA or something where if you have some kind of nationality tie, you know, in your American? can you can you pluck from that pool like uh i have to think on that for for but even all the interesting guys on that front are all like they all have some sort of it's like a thor bjornson with norway or like there's it's mostly european ties which is tough but if you've ever been to an international country you're you're eligible to be picked is there is there a nicholas jacklin award equivalent for the president's cup and does this be the sheffler etchavaria award There were many jokes, many, many jokes about that out there.
Starting point is 00:53:58 I did hear many of those jokes out there, Randy. They're going to have to dump that all work. Somebody said, somebody said he won the Nicholas Jacqueline and lost it in a five-minute span with the concession and then with the interview afterward. Wasn't he shush in the crowd? Yeah, I did hear. What you get at?
Starting point is 00:54:14 Nico on 16 when he chipped in. He gave the preface. I like Nico, but man, you can't, like, have somebody give you a diaper and then, like, shush the crowd is like something. would do that's like you can't you can't do that the camera work was so good at too because scotty just like is looking at him just like is this guy serious did you just shush me that's I think for real though on the on the Scotty stuff props to him for for giving him or you know for kind of tying the whole there I think that was that was legitimately like the right thing to do
Starting point is 00:54:48 and yeah agree a good gesture I I agree with that I think yeah you could have in that moment answered the question with like yeah if you're going to yell on somebody's back swing like i'm just just going to concede the whole you're not helping team usa like don't don't do that would have been a a different message uh you could have sent sent there as well we'll talk about we'll give some grades and talk about every's week in totality here when we get through these also real quick they're just playing some highlights here corey connor's going out of bounds again what's to do was so sick like not even close to being in bounds randy i you reheated this on Slack I saw, but like, I don't, another winner for the week.
Starting point is 00:55:28 Our entire OB should be everywhere. A simple O.B. I think we, yes, we can, man. I think we moved to the ball forward. We did good in the primaries this week. I think I see a path to victory for just putting O.B. Fucking everywhere. Because I think that's, we've seen how much it scares the living daylights of
Starting point is 00:55:45 these guys. That might be the solution for TIO too. That's all OB. All of it. Yeah. That's what, but that's the well designed OB, was the difference maker here like on that we just can't be it's politics we can't be you know can't be too precious if it's all or nothing at this point just oh me everywhere don't we got to start finding where that line is in well designed oh yes my point being like you're going to put obi left don't this way not
Starting point is 00:56:10 not this way don't make it an easy bailout right that's what made the obi work was like if you missed in the right uh you know missed way right on three or missed way way right on one you got a bad time i got good news for you sallel we're putting obie up the right as well. We are defining corridors. The shot. Can you hit the shot? Match six. Chris Goderup was put out by the U.S.
Starting point is 00:56:36 matched by the other sacrificial lamb on the international side. Christian Pizadenhote. Goderup did this win match did go all the way to 18. Goddrup won at one up. He was all, Godrup was up very early over Bez, birdied three of the first six. But Bez got both of the par threes on the front and pulled within two. Gotter bogey backed about.
Starting point is 00:56:54 back holes. Bez only made up one hole in that stretch between 10 and 11. Bez then bogey 12 to hand another one right back to Goddrup, two up. Goddrav then handed 17 to Bez to make it go all the way to 18, but won it there. Goddrup moved to three and one on the week. Was asked about the week afterwards said, yeah, he was as nervous as he'd ever been and did not have his A game this week, which I think was just an interesting combo of being hyper nervous and uncomfortable spot and not feeling like you've got your game with you. But his putter saved him. He made a ton of putts yesterday on Saturday near the end of this four ball match there and continued that into foursums and then putted well again today
Starting point is 00:57:35 to eke out the one-up win over, over Bez. And a match to the U.S., absolutely, they needed to have that one. Yeah. Best finally takes a loss in singles. I know. The streak is over. That is a, Sally, that's another one. We're going to need you getting off the bus, my man.
Starting point is 00:57:52 at a Dare Manor as well because we've identified another Ryder Cup dude potentially need it. Need it. Hadeki Matsuyama against Colin Morakawa. Morikawa won this one up. This was the eighth point on the board.
Starting point is 00:58:08 This put the US up 13 and a half to 12 and a half. Hecki was two up through six, but Morcao won seven and eight to tie it back up. Then he won the 10th with a par to put another red on the board. This was nine red flags on the board. at this moment. This is when things were looking real good for the U.S. Mori-Calah then drove the 12th, but three putted it, and Hadeki-Burdyed did.
Starting point is 00:58:28 That put him back to one-up. That put it back to 15-15 projected in that exact moment. But Morikawa drained a bomb on 15 to tie the matchback up when Hadeki missed from three feet, 10 inches. That was the moment. That was the flip. The switch. Yeah, flip to switch on the internationals. The wind would out of their sales there.
Starting point is 00:58:48 Hadeki proceeded to blow the 18th hole as well. and Moracowal won the match one up. I do want to, I want to massively shout out Hideki shot on 12. I mentioned I was posted up there for a long time. That was outstanding, man. Totally gross. Probably the best shot I saw it today.
Starting point is 00:59:05 Way, way left up in the stuff, kind of a weird lie and just landed it perfectly on that back slope right where he had to and somehow landed it on the down slope, but with enough spin that he could suck it all the way. I mean, it was textbook golf shot. Really good stuff. Hadeki hit some great shots all day
Starting point is 00:59:23 and he made some puts like in that early going and middle stretch and the putter kind of cooled off for him towards the end. Got a mess on 18 too. I think Hadecki disappointed me more than anybody on the international team today. Just
Starting point is 00:59:38 the performance down the stretch had to have that match, had to at least get a half point out of that match. This is one of the two major winners on the international team like this is your dude. and for him to wilt like that, I hope the Japanese media is giving it to Hedaki
Starting point is 00:59:55 because that was mucho not good. Three major winners, I believe, on the, don't forget about my guy Foxy, Randy. I don't think you. Oh, I kind of don't count Adam Scott as who I. Oh, wow. Okay. I realize I actually skipped match five.
Starting point is 01:00:10 Apologies for that. Sung Jay M was put out Sam Burns matched up against him. Sung J. won this match three and one. Burns struggled early, doubled the second to lose that one. he did tie it back up with a birdie on three Sung Jay birdied three out of five holes from six to ten though. It was only one up through ten. Burns also
Starting point is 01:00:27 birdied eight and ten but Burns made a mess of 12, made a mess of 13 to fall two down and just kind of really ran out of steam towards the end of the match and Sung Jay Sung Jay held his own and won that one three and that was the fifth point on the board that made it 12 and a half, ten and a half international one that one. So Burns another guy
Starting point is 01:00:43 who played all five sessions. Yes. Just pick one out of bounds on two. Yeah. uh, Sung Jay was the guy they needed him to be this week though. I mean, he was like a guy that can be a question mark,
Starting point is 01:00:56 uh, from time to time. And, and he was, he was great this week. He was by far the best international player overall, um, from a strokes game perspective.
Starting point is 01:01:04 He went to two, two and one, but just old old, old, old, old sung Jay of, uh, ball strike and Jesse.
Starting point is 01:01:10 He was, uh, number one in the field and strokes game approach this week, which was used to be the strength of his game when he was, uh, a name we were talking about weekly. Um, So hopefully the resurgence there.
Starting point is 01:01:21 Does Sungjay not have to do the military stuff? Is he exempt from that? I never hear anything with him about that. I thought he did. I want to say like he did like an abbreviated version. I think. Excuse me. Greetings.
Starting point is 01:01:36 Gentlemen, a good evening here. Yes, I think he's in the reserve program. He did some training over this winter. I remember him showing up and like randomly being bald for a little bit. But instead of knocking it all out, consecutively I think he does it
Starting point is 01:01:51 he won the gold medal in the 2023 Asian games he still is doing it though he just doesn't have to do the complete service got it I'll pull up pictures because there's some some funny military you yeah
Starting point is 01:02:04 match eight Patrick Cantley the hammer against Adam Scott Cantley wins his two and one can't lay was two up in the first four Adam Scott battled back he got it to one down, but Can'tley won 11 to go back to two up. And he was, he was very strong throughout.
Starting point is 01:02:24 He almost aced the 13th hole. Highlight. Canley wrote in a 57 foot putt put on 16 to just break Scott's back. That put him two up with two to play. But big, big yell and some real emotion from Can't Lay in that one. It was probably the loudest moment on site of the entire day, Deid, I would venture. Yeah, I was I was kind of back on the T box just watching like 15 green and 16 T and kind of ping pong and back and forth. And so I see. stayed there. I didn't go to the green. And it was just even from where it was. It was just like he kind of had that feeling in your stomach of like, oh man,
Starting point is 01:02:56 these are kinds of the ones like Can't Lay Can't Make's in these moments. He's just, it's a dog in singles, man. They said on the broadcast it was a tough two putt. Yeah, it looked like it. And it looked hard. And he was nails today. I mean, just like, because I think Adam Scott kind of threw the kitchen sink at him there from five through two. 10 made four birdie four birdies and six holes and and like didn't like lost ground which is
Starting point is 01:03:27 crazy yeah i know it's just it's just tough man and then you start getting to those moments where it's like adam scott must make putt and you're just like a yeah i've seen this movie yeah i hate to say it i hate to say it big yeah he had a good look on 17 to to win that hole and and make that a lot a lot more interesting and did not happen, unfortunately. So that was the seventh point. That tied things 12 and a half. 12 and a half the more Cowell point was the eighth point made at U.S. 13 and a half to 12 and a half.
Starting point is 01:03:56 Match nine. Siwu Kim out. Jackson, Coyvin was put up against him. Highly talked about guy by Brandt's Nettaker after play wrapped and, and feel there have a lot of questions in the press conference afterwards. Siwu birdied two, three, and four. And it was not looking good for Coyvin early, but he birded five to cut it back to
Starting point is 01:04:14 one down. Seaw then birded the ninth to go two up, but Coyvin birdie 12 to tie it after Seawu gave him the 11th as well with the boge. And then Coyvin went one up on 13 after Siwu came up short, as you mentioned earlier, Dej. Then Coyvin stopped it on 15 made the birdie. Kim was even closer, but he missed. Coivin's then two up with three to play. Quiven did bogey 16 to put that lead back down to one. They get to 18. He club twirls it off the T. After striving down the fairway hits an iron in there, does the tiger pose with a club twirl as well, you know, and stuffed it in there. He was one up and stuffed it in there close enough that that had pretty much done it.
Starting point is 01:04:53 Siwu had, how far did he have on 18? He had a 14-footer that he had to make, and he most definitely did not and conceded to Coyvin, who wins the match and completes his first president's cup, undefeated, going 2-0-1. Coyvin definitively has the juice. I think you could, we even kind of all walked away from Cyprus. saying that where it's not like there's big crowds it's not like there's anything you're just like watch and play and I know this is a cliche but you watch and play you're like dang I just that guy's got
Starting point is 01:05:23 it man and I don't really know how to put my finger on it but I cannot look away from watching him play golf and I'm so glad that that has come to fruition in such a big way not only winning on tour but also just everything he did this week because it's fucking awesome to watch and it was fun to watch JT being like the big brother of that of that duo and like you know how it is when guys start finishing matches they start trickling back and they all kind of hang in a pack and maybe they'll have a golf cart go drive them to another match if they want JT peeled off he picked him up at 12 I think and he walked every step with Coyvin the rest of the way the whole match he was just like not leaving his side I'm locked in he's standing there the whole time comes back up to 18 and
Starting point is 01:06:06 meets back up with the rest of the team JT's doing a lot of like I can't fucking hear you to the crowd. Let's fuck. Like he was, it was awesome, man. It was, uh,
Starting point is 01:06:15 that was, that was the bright spot of my week. Watching those two together. It was, it was really cool. That, that's the kind of shit that I'm like, why are we,
Starting point is 01:06:24 why are we doing the JT? Like this is the only guy doing that shit. I'm with you. I'm with it. It was fully cemented today. And that's why I get a, I push back when I get just cornered as being data only here. When I'm trying to like trying to,
Starting point is 01:06:36 from the rooftop saying here like, it's about more than that. It's about more than that. It's about. more than that. It's about like the kind of shit that like, I don't want to make the Coivan discussion, a pat on the back for JT, but I just fucking love hearing actually that shit. And I want to see other guys following suit with that. Coivan, Coivan finished through the line. The reports everybody on site and from what I saw from the two practice rounds, Coven was struggling in the practice rounds.
Starting point is 01:06:59 He was not hitting it well. He was struggling off the T and he struggled with the very first session. And JT had a fun nugget in there about how nervous Coivan looked in four, that he like didn't even get his tea out and just kind of walked off without getting it out on the first tee when they were playing together and he had a bad first session and he carried JT in the second session and he finished through the line and did absolutely everything.
Starting point is 01:07:22 He beat Siwu Kim today as a 21 year old in the president's cup and it's like when you say he's got the juice, I think there's still like a fair amount of projecting out like what he's about to be. Like I don't, he's not a fully formed product yet. He's not even as good as Speed was at age 21, but like this if he's not going to be one of the guys I don't know who we can project out to be in the next batch of guys for the U.S.
Starting point is 01:07:46 because there's no one that's like him totally and yeah when I say that I'm not even like the juice doesn't mean you're going to win X number of majors or whatever it's just like man who do I want to go watch right now it's that guy like sign me up to go just stand behind the T-box and watch that guy play golf it's awesome and I loved I think my favorite note of the of the presser was snedeker talking about how when they went back to the team room yesterday and they started going through the pairings. He said the whole room exploded. Everybody's cheering when they found out Coyvins going up against Cewu Kim. They're just like that everybody in that team room wanted to see that match. And I mean, that's like, it's awesome. It's good, man. Like that's the stuff.
Starting point is 01:08:25 Yeah, there's just not a lot of that on the U.S. side. We need it. Which that's why like, man, there's people who are like, and why is Coyvon on this team or whatever? Like identification of dudes and you identify him in the president's cup and you ease him in and then now he's not going to shit his pants at it there, man, when he's on the first tea. You know, he's got a little bit of experience. Yeah, positive experience, right? And I think again, it's what we said in the preview and going into Thursday. It's just like, what if we took a
Starting point is 01:08:54 risk, man? What if we, what if we just put a little bit of a coin in the bank for the future? I'd like to see one or two more of those risks. And I think we, honestly, I think you saw it with Bridgman too, like didn't have his best stuff earlier in the week and then gets it done today. gets the clinching point. He's walking around with the W flag. Randy would have love to see that. Just a soulless Cubs, W flag president's cup logo on it. That's like kind of says more about the event than
Starting point is 01:09:18 anything I can think of. But in the, exactly. Anyways, Bridgman had a nice moment as well. He's up in the next match, Jacob Bridgman versus Minwu Lee. Bridgman won the first and third with birdies. Minnwood won the fourth with the birdie that got it back to one down.
Starting point is 01:09:35 But fast forward. We didn't see a lot of this match. Bridgman did miss a short putt to tie on the 15th hole to go one down. This was like last gasp. We have a little bit of life potentially. Min Wooley has to win this match. Not only would he not even tie the match, he would go on to lose the match.
Starting point is 01:09:51 He missed a four-footer on 16. He had seven feet on 17 to take a one-up lead. And then Bridgman ends up making a put from three feet eight inches on the 18th hole to ultimately win the President's Cup for the U.S. He was above the hole, tried to lag it short, it ends up going almost four feet by, but makes the put, US now has clinched up 15 and a half to 12 and a half.
Starting point is 01:10:13 Min Woo Lee is an unsurious golfer. I'm so, yes, thank you, Tron. I'm good on Minwood. Everybody seems to be coming around. We'll get there. We'll do grades for everybody here, I promise. Nick Taylor versus Russ Henley, this match ends in a tie.
Starting point is 01:10:30 Wasn't a great match from what I could tell, but again, kind of didn't see a whole heck of a lot of it. There's a lot more birdies in the card than I'm giving credit. Five birdies for big dick, Nick. Five birdies for each of them, it looks like. But, yeah, it was hard to get a, hard to get a sense of this one just because even though these are the matches that always end up being the most important, they somehow always ignore matches 10, 11, 12 until the very, very end.
Starting point is 01:10:51 Nick was down, he was two down early. He was two down through four. And he did not give up. He battled back for a tie. That's what we're about. All right. There was a, there was a palpable, like, oh, shit sort of feeling when it did look. when it briefly kind of looked like it was going to flip international,
Starting point is 01:11:10 just seeing Russ Henley back there, starting to think about Beth Page. There was a lot of people that were like, damn, man, like, put them in that spot. That's, that's, okay. Let's see. And Russ, two's credit held together pretty well. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:24 Final match, Zander Shoffley against Ryan the great man Fox. It was all Zander early. He got to three up through nine. Then he got it all the bit of four up with a par on 14. Zander had a put from four feet nine inches to win the President's Cup on 16, but missed it low. I missed his chance to be the clinchy point, but ended up winning the match two and one, ultimately.
Starting point is 01:11:48 And that was the 11th point. That put it 16 and a half to 12 and a half. And that was all 12 matches from today. He needed a bit more from the open goal for the year. I know. Foxy just, he didn't have it on the front nine. It cost him.
Starting point is 01:12:03 And a complicated week for Foxy. I feel like he had good vibes with with minwu. We'll get into grades and all that. But, you know, yeah, it was a weird pairing with Adam, Adam Scott. And then expected more out of him in the anchor match today. And I think we are, you know, slightly downplaying the probability, like the internationals could have won this just because we're a little bored with the U.S. winning this on repeat. Like, there was a shot today. There was a very real shot in large, in no small part.
Starting point is 01:12:33 I know the data, the probability, whatever, only says. that Snedz's snafus with the order would maybe maximum amount to like a 1% change in probability. But I don't, it very well could have come down to 1% probability and chance at the very end. And it didn't, but it very well could have. And I don't know. I just, I don't know why you wouldn't do everything in your power to increase the possibility,
Starting point is 01:12:58 you know, of, of the comeback that you needed. They got it. but I don't know why you would kind of throw math out the window because anything you can do to lead to greater possibilities of what you should be targeting. That's what our friends at AT&T do. And they do that through a network that keeps people meaningfully connected
Starting point is 01:13:15 to those who matter most, friends, family, and more. So the moments that matter feel closer and clearer because it's not just about being more connected. It's about being better connected. Wherever life takes you when the connection matters, it has to be AT&T. To find out more, head to ATT.com, backslash connect to change AT&T connecting changes. Not my best, guys.
Starting point is 01:13:34 I'm a little fatigue. That was good. So I picked that one up. I went five sessions. Two puffs from there. I think that's good. I will say, I can stream YouTube TV out on the golf course this week.
Starting point is 01:13:43 Thanks to our friends at AT&T. That was the best perception I'd ever had on our course. So I got three, I got three things in my notebook that I want to go through before we, before we get too far. The first is the first tea, which was I hung out there for a good bit this morning. I was parked on a shuttle just kind of full ground stop when the big man flew into town. So I did not see the 30 second speech.
Starting point is 01:14:12 I heard it was rousing. Which, I mean, props to roll up for, there were rumors that it was going to be 10, 12 minutes. Like the big reports that it was going to be like if he wanted to talk for 15 minutes. Yeah. And so for him and I mean, Rollab hung out with he babies had him all day. Can't imagine what they were talking about. They were there just hours hours, just those two. And that kind of brings me to my second point, which was going to be, we've done a lot on these team shows and kind of postmortems about like, what's the first tea atmosphere?
Starting point is 01:14:44 What's it supposed to be like? What's it not supposed to be like? They've just fully given up on any kind of like crowd singing, any kind of like organic juice. And I think they just hit the faders and just they've just blown them away with music. Which it was, I thought it was effective, honestly. It was pretty effective for about half the matches. People kind of trickled out after that once they saw some of the heavy, you know, heavy names. But I was just kind of, that was the first like big team event that I've been to that it's just like,
Starting point is 01:15:17 now we're just going to, we're just going to blow you away with just sheer decibels. And that was interesting, I thought. Two, I want to give a shout to who I have to assume. was Jacob Bridgman's dad. It looked like Jacob Bridgman. And also he was wearing one of the shirzies, like the, with the player's name on the back.
Starting point is 01:15:38 He had the Bridgman 26th, Shurzion. And what I hope it's his dad. I have to, I really hope it was his dad. He was inside the ropes. I think it was. But it was a very sweet moment
Starting point is 01:15:50 where I was talking about like being right next to 15 green 16T. Jacob hits in that back bunker on 16, like down a ways away. from where we're standing. And he's like so nervous. He's about to just like lose it. He's just by himself. I'm sure the rest of Jacob's family is somewhere else. He's just by himself and he just gets in with this like group of American fans. And they're watching to see if he's going to like have this big par save to kind of keep this thing close. Keep it going. Keep it tight. Whatever.
Starting point is 01:16:19 And he cashes it. And this like clearly like very stoic guy just explodes with emotion. He's high fiving all these American fans. All these American fans. All these American fans. They're like, holy shit, that's his death. That's crazy. And he just, he like catches himself and he goes, I hope you all have a great day. I hope you have a great day. I hope you have a great day.
Starting point is 01:16:39 And then he turned off and he just walked away by himself. And it was like, I was like, oh, that's really cool. That's, you know, you don't get to see that on TV. That was, that was really great. And number three thing in my notebook. And I love this so much, Sally, that I'm going to give this our Yeti coldest moment of the week. You guys told me, go find a Yeti's coldest moment. I got you.
Starting point is 01:16:59 12T, I'm sorry, 12 green. I'm standing there. You know, comeback is kind of on. Everything's looking pretty good. A lot of red on the board. Fans are kind of starting to wake up. Everybody's had their second, third cocktail. And there's this volunteer who's kind of like walking,
Starting point is 01:17:18 you guys were there, that ridge line up by 13T, right? There's like kind of a natural amphitheater there. And this volunteer's kind of walking along this ridge line. And he hears the crowd kind of start to, like perk up a little bit and I think maybe he thought they're seeing him and so he kind of
Starting point is 01:17:37 looks up and he kind of kind of hits him with one of these like I can't hear you crowd just goes nuts they're losing it and he does it he does it again and then he looks behind and he sees it's because Windham is on the 12th green hyping everybody
Starting point is 01:17:53 up from down there and it was just directly behind him all time How did he react? All time. I think it was just kind of like keep going and, you know, just kind of a, yeah, pretend nobody saw that sort of situation. But it just really made my day. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 01:18:17 I'll pick it up from here. Drinkware, coolers, bags, cooking, cases in storage. Yeti has it all with plenty of options to customize. Find more at Yeti.com. Oh, my guy, I had the thought for a second. Am I the needle? It was like watching the Lord of the Rings or something and watching somebody be corrupted by the power of just like put this ring on their finger. Like I see this is, you're telling me this is what power feels like.
Starting point is 01:18:43 And he just, he just bit full, full sinker. I think there was maybe something in the water over there in that area because there was a security guard, volunteer manning the bridge. the north side of the bridge over by 12 green there and this guy was so drunk with power I mean he was like he made one of the U.S. team wives cry because he wouldn't he wouldn't let her inside the ropes
Starting point is 01:19:14 even though she had an inside the ropes badge he was yelling at people to get back even though they were like 10 feet clear of the rope line it was it was bad so you know always a few of those those power drunk volunteers years, but at a place like Medina that has three choke point bridges, like, they are, they are like Nepal. I mean, they are just put in this, in this, uh, position that they can really clog things up. Yeah. Uh, yeah, a lot of, a lot of joke points today, especially with, uh, with the big man on the first
Starting point is 01:19:47 tea. It was, yeah, how was the secret service? Uh, they were, they were wonderful. Everybody was, everybody was, everybody was a total pro. Uh, you know, it's like, it's, it's, it's, it. If you're going to cause a problem, that's, that's very much going to be on you. When someone's like, you can't cross right now, I'm like, yeah, you got it, man. I hear you. Sounds good. I'll be right here. I am not doing anything.
Starting point is 01:20:07 Do you know my podcaster? Do you understand where I'm trying to get right now? Yeah. No, well, I know that. I know that applies to everybody else, but like, I don't know if that applies. Come on. Come on. Come on.
Starting point is 01:20:15 No. It was, you talk to any of them? Yeah, I talked to one, just kind of one of those situations. Like, hey, man, I saw a great friend of mine on the other side of the, T box. I'm like, hey, no big deal. Just need to, I just need to jump across the T. Is that, is that okay? Like, nope, can't cross right now. I'm like, okay. I get it. Sounds good. And he's like, yeah, he's he can know, he's like, maybe once, once our man gets out of here, we'll let you cross. I was like, no worries. Just forget it. I'll probably see him later. It's all, it's all good. Asin answered. Yeah. All right. Let's go for the highlight here. Let's do player grades. We do not need to linger on these,
Starting point is 01:20:54 unless you got a case you really want to state on a certain guy, we can go rather quickly. I will be providing records and for context only, their strokes gain total for the week. You can do whatever the hell you want with that. Obvious disclaimer, always with strokes gain. There's always some noise, especially to the downs. There's noise to the downside of it.
Starting point is 01:21:16 There's not noise to the upside. If you gain 10 shots, you just played better golf than everybody else. And there's notes to be had with that. Are we doing great? inflation or no? You're on your own grade system, Randy.
Starting point is 01:21:30 Are you doing grade inflation? I'll be tracking it. Okay. All right. Scotty Sheffler for the U.S. went three and one. He gained 2.45 shots overall. Dege.
Starting point is 01:21:47 C plus. B minus. C minus. C. Okay. I just, we're not lingering. Let's keep moving. I think that speaks for itself.
Starting point is 01:22:02 Three and one great. Good favorable matchups. It was on the lucky side of the draw for a lot of that. Putter let him down. Not what we needed out of Scotty. Cameron Young, three and two. The best sportsmanship we've ever seen. Yes.
Starting point is 01:22:16 Cameron Young, three and two plus 10.57 shots gained of note that was number one. Number one, the U.S. I by far. number one in the entire event. A plus. A minus. Lost twice. Yeah, I'll say A minus. I think A minus as well. You got all hot all the strokes gain there, T.C. after you said you weren't going to. No, I got hot just on the message that he sent today.
Starting point is 01:22:51 Yeah. Windham Clark. This would be an interesting one. One and four, positive six shots. I don't know what to do here. I don't want to go first. I'm going to give Wyndham a B plus. I think Wyndham was like the heart and soul. Dude, I agree. I agree with you.
Starting point is 01:23:08 And it was, I mean, I'm sure this came through on TV as well, but like the fans, they cheer Wyndham. They were, I think he got the biggest cheer on the first tee today, straight up. I think they loved riding for him. They loved what he had going. He was riling up there. rest of the team. Totally kind of like
Starting point is 01:23:29 a 180 from what we saw three months ago. It's just nuts. I like B plus, D.C. I'm with you. I like B plus. I know. It's crazy. D plus. Play better. Hell yeah. Randy, that's your response. You went one and four.
Starting point is 01:23:48 Mr. Randy. You're as big an eye test guy as anybody. He got Sam Burns stunk in the afternoon with him yesterday and And four-s- A big spot today. Big spot against the international's best.
Starting point is 01:24:02 And he got beat. It was one of those like, we have the watch kind of things where like he got him to where they were. Without him, they wouldn't have been sniffing three points down even. Well, no, you can't say that. Without him, they would have been one point worse.
Starting point is 01:24:17 Like literally. I think no, no, but he was the, he was the fabric. He was the glue, man. better as an ass captain Clark was the best player in the first match on Thursday four balls they won that one that was the only one that he won
Starting point is 01:24:35 Friday foursons when everyone got boomed on he was a little bit better than Colin that was a they played that was a very good match Min Moody and Ryan Fox played excellent excellent golf that was probably one of the highlight matches of the President's Cup and they lost that one down when they lost two and one to Siwu Kim and Tom Kim. him. He was not great in Saturday four balls, but was still good, like was still like positive
Starting point is 01:24:59 strokes gained in that session. And then in foursomes, he was the stronger one by far. Burns let them down big, big time. They lost that one three and two. Singles, he was pretty neutral, not really a lot to glean from that other than he also went up against the best player in the field today. So excuse making for Wyndham if you want. Look, we do not have a big record of supporting Wyndham Clark. I think he understands the assignment. Seems to be a great teammate, brought energy, looked like he was having fun and played relatively good golf. I am,
Starting point is 01:25:30 I was team winning this week and I'm in on him for a dare as a right now. And it's not just like a camera thing either. I mean, I think watching him in between holes, watching him with his teammates, like I think he's, I think he genuinely was having a great time this week. And it made me happy to see it as a dub respecter,
Starting point is 01:25:46 which I know you guys. And let me just say, I'm happy for him that he was doing all that stuff, but we will not be a, ignoring one and four. Okay, that's fine. That's fine. Sam Burns, two and three, negative 1.2, two strokes.
Starting point is 01:26:01 I don't know what to do. Weird one. I know. Because before yesterday's afternoon's foursoms, I would have given a very good grade. I know. Same. I feel like,
Starting point is 01:26:13 I'm going to give him a B minus. I feel like he kind of babysat. Scotty a little bit. I had, I had C in my head. with that. It feels better, but I think it, he would have been done a better service by sitting yesterday afternoon, but it was hard because he played so well in the morning. Like if he said tomorrow yesterday afternoon, I, I wouldn't have been surprised if he would have came out in one again today. It's, it's an imaginary situation I just made up in my head. I know it's probably not
Starting point is 01:26:43 fair to go into grading. That would count as lingering, Holly. Yeah, we're not lingering. Okay, B minus. Randy? B minus. Uh, yeah, totally average. I'll give him a C. Yeah, people are going to hate the B minus there, but I still think Sam Burns is very good at all.
Starting point is 01:26:59 Okay. Russell Henley, O2 and 1, negative 3.22. D minus. D for me. D sounds great. I'm good.
Starting point is 01:27:10 Oh, God. I like Russ. Russ. If you ever listen to this, this is not personal, but I am going to fail you. And we don't, we're good on Russ
Starting point is 01:27:20 on team events, I think. I'm good. I think you're right. I think you're right, Randy. Morcala, two and two plus 1.09. Weird one. I'm giving a lot of Cs, but I mean, I think it's a C.
Starting point is 01:27:35 Yeah. Okay, so I'm going to go the other way. I'm going to give Colin a B plus because I thought his match was very critical today, and I thought he hit some big shots, made some puts. I thought that was a very important point that he won against Hedecki. Yeah. I also thought he was one of the reasons that they were in them.
Starting point is 01:27:55 in the luck in the mire that they found themselves in there's a see i'll go c plus there yep chris gism is interesting chris got up three and one plus 1.86 hmm a a minus rookie effort doing what doing what we need i think maybe not a great pairing in that first session with uh with pc uh but man once they got him with cam young he just looked like he was the world beater. Yeah, that one was strange, Dej. I still don't understand that pairing from an energy perspective. That almost seems like there was like an error in the test question, though.
Starting point is 01:28:39 Like that's where I'm like, we can't penalize him for that. Yeah. Yeah, it's fair. I think he was taking the class pass fail. I passed him and I want to see him at a dare manner. I'll say, I'll say B, just in that the ball striking was not good. like the putter saved him and great.
Starting point is 01:28:58 I'd like to see him be the ball hitter that he is. And he got it out a great record. I think things did fall his way very well. He had made a ton of great putts at the end of that four ball match, but it was Cam Young that owned that four ball match and helped carry that three and one record. So I want to be in on this.
Starting point is 01:29:15 I expected a little bit better golf out of Goderup, like Tita Green. That's kind of what he's there for. And for that reason, I can't give him too much of a good grade. I feel like I got to explain that a little bit of it. He played well with his with his with his B or C game. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:29 Right. Yeah, that's what I give him. Yeah, I'm going to give him a C a little bit of cotton candy in that three and one record for me. You know, even his singles match. I want to see him at a dare.
Starting point is 01:29:43 I'm just not convinced he's a dude. We, we labeled him a dude earlier. I think he's a dude in waiting still in team events. I'm not, I'm not there with him. And Randy, I'd like to correct the record.
Starting point is 01:29:54 I hope. what I meant to say. I hope I said what I meant to say, which is he needs a potential rider cup dude. I don't think he's a dude now, but we need him to be a rider cup dude. You got yourself that damn deal. Justin Thomas
Starting point is 01:30:10 2-1-1-negative 5 strokes gained. So sick. Two and a half points. Big team guy. I'm giving him a B-plus. I give him a B. I'll say B because he was that bad yesterday when we needed him, but he was that good elsewhere. And the intangibles obviously off the charts.
Starting point is 01:30:38 I'm not think I'd be the lowest here, but I'm B minus. There's something to... You were slurping him pretty hard this week. I mean, he was incredible on Thursday. And he's still like, I think he's still a massive fabric of the team. and I think he has the greatest team record in U.S. history across these two events in terms of wins above replacements or points above replacement.
Starting point is 01:31:01 Like he is played in every team event. Is that fan grass or baseball reference? Yeah. You know who you know who that is coming from. Is he getting defensively fluffed here too? There's nothing in that other than literally winning points, Randy. This should be your favorite system of all time. No, no, no.
Starting point is 01:31:19 That's why I game of B plus. Yeah. He's played in every team event except the 2024 President's Cup And he's only had a losing record once That was the 2023 As he's either held serve for his points Or been a positive for every U.S. team he's played for Other than Rome
Starting point is 01:31:36 Where you got Saddle with Speed and he went one and two So I He's just keep Keep running him out there I think he is a big part of any Any road victory you ever going to have Is going to come with him playing good golf in it. So did not have his best stuff in the middle of this tournament.
Starting point is 01:31:54 That's not to be debated, but I'm still team JT. Zander, 2 and 2, negative 0.47, so almost kind of neutral and strokes gained. Guy give him, you know what? I think that was a massive one, what, yesterday afternoon. Him and Cantlay. Him and Cantlay. That was a huge dub that they had over. over Siwu and Tom going out first in the afternoon yesterday.
Starting point is 01:32:24 I think that was it was absolutely essential. And then locking the firewall today too, you know, just kind of being the stopper that you needed. I know I wanted to go lower, but you're you're bringing me up. I'll say B minus. Probably. Because I think of the expectations of kind of who you like need him to be,
Starting point is 01:32:45 want him to be. And he wasn't quite there, but he was very, very serviceable. and additive, like you said, DC. I do think this is hopefully the end of Zander-Kantley pairing, or a feeling that it has to be a pairing automatically, because I think Zander and Cantley have good components and parts that I just don't think we,
Starting point is 01:33:05 that is not the same version of the 2021 version of them. It's just frustrating that we see them in both foursums and four-ball as well. Yeah. We didn't this time around, though. They sat for four-ball on Saturday morning. and Friday. Can'tlay played with Goddra up. Oh, you're okay, you're right. Yeah, they played foursomes together, but not four. I'll give him a B.
Starting point is 01:33:29 Okay. Can't lay two and two plus one point four eight. I'll go B. Pretty similar. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like word for word similar. Yeah. I think I, you know, I'm going to give him a B minus because I think he had a negative impact on the youth. On Goder up. And potentially on Coyvin. See, I'll follow you there.
Starting point is 01:33:55 Potentially on Coyvin. What? Yeah, just by association. Proxy. You don't need that energy around. I know he had his big fist pump and shit today, but Pat, just take it all the way. It's not who we want the kids hanging out with.
Starting point is 01:34:10 You know, we need to find a better friend group. Jackson Coyvin, 2.0 and 1 plus 0.17. A. It's not an A plus because of that Thursday start. Yeah, I'll go B plus. A minus. A minus. B plus? I mean, it was bad Thursday.
Starting point is 01:34:31 He sat and he only played four. I mean, he didn't go five. He didn't go four. He's 21. No, you can't just give babies. Just because he's an underclassman. Doesn't mean you just give him free points. He didn't do great on the first.
Starting point is 01:34:44 He aced the final two exams, but the first exam didn't, it weighs the grade down a little bit. It can't be an A. I think today was weighted heavily. the final the finals at least 50% of the grade yeah that's that brought him all the way up to to b plus um Jacob bridgman 1 and 2 negative 0.42 incomplete incomplete I'm totally agree there yeah totally like they didn't they didn't allow him to show off his and he played him they didn't give him a pencil for for one of them yeah for a map a lot of people don't have maps
Starting point is 01:35:16 dc Randy you're going to fail him but when he's When he shows up for class, I love what I'm seeing. I don't know. One in two. Very forgettable. I'm going to give him a D plus. The Euro's would have given him an A plus because he clinched the winning point. That's true. The Hall of Favor.
Starting point is 01:35:44 He got the captain of a team. Exactly. He's six Hall of Fame points on the LPGA. All right. Internationals. Seawu Kim, 3 and 2 plus 4.35A minus for me. A minus. Yeah, this one's tough because he lost his,
Starting point is 01:36:07 he lost his singles match and it was kind of right there at the crux of things. I'll go B plus for Coo. B plus, but he's going to win one of those like awards. did they give out like those subjective awards of you know the like a yearbook award silver sluggler? Yeah yeah or like you know hey this guy was like
Starting point is 01:36:29 you know did a bunch of community service and he mentored other students in his class and like went inside with kids you know at lunch that like didn't have any friends he's mid-eagles guy he was doing it all you know um Hedekhi
Starting point is 01:36:46 what um Hedeky Matsuyama 2 and 2 negative 0.53 C plus C. I'm not lingered. D. Okay. Shit the bed today. Great man.
Starting point is 01:37:01 Question mark. Foxy. 2 and 2 minus 0.86. C. Maybe C minus. Yeah. Give him a C minus for me. Yeah. I mean, I think Foxy would give himself an F because that's the kind of guy that he is.
Starting point is 01:37:16 And F is for Fox. I'll say C plus. In some good moments. I'm going to give him an F, but it's for Fox. It's not fair fail. So let the record show that. F-O-X. We did, I'm giving him an F because we, that's who we needed on that team.
Starting point is 01:37:33 He didn't quite get all the way there, but he was still, he was still himself, T-C. That, therefore he gets an F. Next up is Tom Kim, 4-1 plus 2.18A. A plus. A plus. A plus, yeah. Like valedictorian. Thank you, T.C.
Starting point is 01:37:53 Magnific and loud. Yes. Top of the class. Minwu Lee 2-2-1, negative 3.36. He got kicked out of class. He's goofing around. We have expelled him. I give him a C.
Starting point is 01:38:12 Got his certificate over at the community college down the street. Dee, I'm so out on him. would D. Yeah, D. There's just not a lot of substance there with the golf game. I sure he's a nice guy. God, he had some, you could maybe talk me into a C-minus
Starting point is 01:38:31 because he did play some good golf in the middle there. Yeah. But it wasn't book-ended very well. It was not book-ended well. And really it was like kind of the rub. It's like when the chips, when it's time made the shots, we didn't really hit the shots.
Starting point is 01:38:45 Yeah. It's just surprisingly, you know, good forsoms, which was not, what I would have predicted for, for mid-woom. So I still give him a C for that for the team golf part. Adam Scott 1 and 3, negative 0.89. I'm giving him a D.
Starting point is 01:39:04 That's where my head is at. See, I think we're bestowing the honorary degree on Adam, and we're wishing him well. Yeah, it's time. Make sure you donate plenty money at the university. That's right. It should be an interesting one. Sung J, 2-2 and 1 plus 8.9.
Starting point is 01:39:20 97 by far best strokes gained on the on the international side as well that good if you're listening of the eye if you're watching at youtube there's a picture of subject his military uniform just caught me off guard there he looks great he looks great I I think an A man and a lot of that versus my expectations versus what we've seen from him on the ball striking side versus like how important he is to the team. Like, again, like, if he doesn't play well, man, they got no chance. And I thought he just showed up in, like, in a big way.
Starting point is 01:39:59 He lost, all right, they lost Thursday four ball to Scotty and Sam. No harm in that. He played good men movies. He's a very good match. Yeah, yeah. It's a very good match. Friday foursums. He and Hedekie beat Henley and Bridgman.
Starting point is 01:40:14 And he was great, and Decky sucked. Yeah. Saturday four ball. He and Minwu tied J.T. and Coyvin. Minwoo sucked really bad in that, and Subjay was the best player. And then they got their doors, Adam Scott and Sunjay got their doors blown off by Cam and Goddraub.
Starting point is 01:40:37 Yeah, he was not great in that. I'll give him a B. I give him an A. I think it was excellent, excellent golf. B plus for me. I'm receiving where we're lingering. Nico Etchevaria 0 and 2, negative 8.52. That is going to be a fail.
Starting point is 01:40:59 This is not the class for you, my man. Yeah, it's not your fault. Yeah, you're going to get to try again next year. Yeah, that's great. I'm not even sure this is the school for him. Corey Connors, 2 and 3, negative 6.02. Really weighted by a very, very bad single session. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:17 Does not even. It doesn't get a report card. He got expelled. I'm not going to go that far. He played some good golf in the team sessions with Taylor. I'll say C minus. I like C minus, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:33 That's great impression. Nick Taylor 2-1 and 1 plus 0.38. B plus? Yeah. Go be. Yeah. Hit the shots. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:47 It's good moments. What did I give Sungjay B plus? I got to give nickel over than that. Yeah, we'll go B minus. Ah, that's not fair. B, B. We didn't expect much from him. He exceeded expectation.
Starting point is 01:42:03 Christian Bazaed and Hote one in one negative 5.5. This guy was like, were you enrolled here? Did you finish? Yeah. I think he got sick and they ended up just doing stuff from home. Well, he just missed a lot of class. He didn't get to see him out there. He's that guy in my dreams where I always wake up and I'm like, I forgot to drop the class.
Starting point is 01:42:26 Oh, crap. I've been still enrolled in this class all year. F. Yeah. D. D. Yeah, I guess. You did get a point.
Starting point is 01:42:39 Yeah, give him a D. You can give him an Fee kind of point. He only played twice. That's kind of disqualifying in and of itself. Yeah. He was so bad in that match, though. Like, and no, he gets it out. He failed.
Starting point is 01:42:55 Rihuzatsune, 1 and 2, negative 3.42. He was so bad in that match, and they beat J.T. and Camio. JT was really bad in that match. Didn't see it a lot for my guy. D plus. Yeah. I'll say C minus. Hmm.
Starting point is 01:43:20 I thought they were going to roll him out. Love having him in class, by the way. Great personality. He was like an exchange dude. He was here for a year. I'm not sure we're ever going to see him again. Yeah. But, you know, we had some, I guess we did have some memories.
Starting point is 01:43:32 I would have liked to have seen him in a four ball session, too. Like they only played him in foursomes with the decky there. And then he got off to a good start today too. I was, it was confident. I like watching him play golf. Totally. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:43:47 I want to, you know, I'm going to give him, I'm going to give him a C-minus. I want to see him come to office hours, though. Okay. Okay. Yeah. The captains, Brantznetiker. I'm going to give him an F. I feel like he'd give himself an F.
Starting point is 01:44:05 So what am I supposed to do? He won't, though. Can you do an F plus? Like, is there like a D-minus, I think would still be too high? I'll give him an F. I'll give him an F. It's a, it was, he was talking on Saturday night, like they had lost the fucking cup. This might have been like a true pass fail.
Starting point is 01:44:23 And I guess he passed technically, but that's how I feel. Yeah. That's how I feel. I don't think I can get there giving him an F. They did win. You have to say that. But I'll give him a pass. I think it's a skin of his teeth.
Starting point is 01:44:38 Failure because the process was all wrong. Like you didn't show your work. Like you might have gotten a couple right answers in there, but you didn't like show the work of the calculus at all. He did all A's on the Scantron. Cody had a good point in that he was grateful it was a group project. I think if it was individual grades, it wouldn't have gone so much. The rest of the group gets different. He did hitch himself to the right to the right squad.
Starting point is 01:45:02 Yeah. I mean, did he even, like he chose his group of ass captains, though. Did he even choose the right group on that front? Jeff Ogilvy. I would give Jeff like a B. I mean. At least. I thought he did a great job.
Starting point is 01:45:21 I thought you did a great job. I'm just laughing at the idea of giving the winning captain and the losing captain A minus. Do you see the teams? No, I know. I know. I'm with you. And he helped design this beautiful venue too. I thought it popped in my head. I thought he was great.
Starting point is 01:45:39 He almost did, you know, he almost did it. Like he did it during the team part too. And just when he, you know, look at the at the lineup, like there was just nothing to be done about singles. And it just seemed like they were having fun too. It seemed like they were vibing and it was a good atmosphere and camaraderie amongst the crew. There was confidence there. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:46:04 Anything else you want to dump from the notebook here? I know we have a lot of content from this past President's Cup and I think I feel pretty well documented on a lot of it. Just wondering if you guys think there's anything we've missed. I can't think of a thing. I think we've turned over every stone. I'm legitimately excited for Kingston Heath. I think it'll be great. I do agree.
Starting point is 01:46:31 I'm excited to see it. Yeah. I also think, like, all right, if you totally allowed the internationals to their own devices and said, all right, you know what? We're going to let's say the R&A helps manage that team or the DP World Tour or someone like that. You get it outside of Pontevira, right? and you give them their own focused silo. And you let Cam Smith and you let some of these other guys play. I do think that's a different result this week.
Starting point is 01:47:05 Like I know a lot of people were saying, hey, that's not going to make up the difference between like the gap in talent and skill and, you know, just dudes. But I think if you had Lucas Herbert and Cam Smith and some of those guys in lieu of. Or Bez or Ego. Yeah, like I think there's there's something there. Which I feel like we were all shortchanged on that this week.
Starting point is 01:47:32 Agree. Which is where, yeah, again, a lot of this is like, don't forget who organizes this tournament. It's kind of a large takeaway. It's not, it's not equal footing. It's like the, TZ, your point, I mean, this is almost like my lasting kind of takeaways. Like, they haven't done one of these in Japan. band is where it becomes like what are we what are we actually trying to do here
Starting point is 01:47:53 what are we actually trying to get out of this we're going back to royal montreal again yeah it's like man yeah as soon as you just say it like that and see it like that especially with the makeup of the teams and gone to korea one time it's just like it just starts to feel unsirious pretty pretty much and uh it could be could be better i think
Starting point is 01:48:16 love the australia ones though that's that's yeah 11, I mean, 11 was awesome watching. I remember back in the day, like, got me into, it was a Kickstarter for me getting, like, back into golf very seriously. I think just watching that at night at Royal Melbourne, 2019 was incredible with the crowds as well. And I have no reason to believe Kings and Heath won't be a banger. Like, I think we can avoid a lot of the discussions around the silliness of the President's Cup into the next one.
Starting point is 01:48:43 Like, a road ones are more interesting, and Australian venues are going to bring out different style of play that's going to make it a closed competition. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the internationals won with, you know, live, knock on wood, potentially going away. Guys will serve suspensions for 2027, get back to a more global inclusion in the PGA tour in 2028 and have a stronger team in a home environment and a golf course and match play format that should fit them very well. I think it, we could be looking for the streak to break in 28.
Starting point is 01:49:14 I wouldn't be surprised at all. Like if the positive thing about this event is that it gets a. to Australia. Yeah. Once every eight years, like, I'll take it. That's worth the sacrifice. Yeah. Well, just last thing, you know, talking about not going to Japan as a venue, like,
Starting point is 01:49:33 would like to see a Korean, Japanese person as captain one day, too. I feel like that's another area where we can do a little bit better representing, like, what this international group is supposed to be. Yeah. I agree. The only thing I was going to say is that obviously the, you know, Asian looking at locations there, that's kind of like a no-brainer for what the future is. But like through the history of this president's cup, the strong representation that they've had from Central and South America.
Starting point is 01:50:05 And that that hasn't even come up at all considering the amount of money that like a hundred percent. DJ tour actually puts into South America. Like they had our own tour there for a long time. And it never came up to be like, man, like couldn't even look at the jockey club or, Because there's no sponsorships, man. Like it's all money. Right?
Starting point is 01:50:24 And the Argentine economy is not strong. And so they're just not going to do that. I think the other thing that it bugs me about this team, and I think it's a, there's like a silhouette, like a silhouette of like a missing person there is Hal Tong Lee. Yeah. If Hal Tong Lee wasn't just like a space cadet or TC,
Starting point is 01:50:46 like it sounds like he just might be like a space cadet. moron who just can't keep it between the rails on this stuff which I think we're all poor for that too because he was hilarious on these teams now. He was great. I don't know if the captains thought he was hilarious
Starting point is 01:51:01 wouldn't even bring like a real catty but he's fucking talented and he should be on more of the teams. Anything else from around the world of golf that you want to shout TC? We had a pretty good French open we had Matt Fitzpatrick ran away with that one. I watched a little bit of that in the mornings
Starting point is 01:51:25 when the P-cup wasn't on, especially on Thursday and Friday. So it was some good viewing. Gene Chikara was in the mix today until a stumble on 13. Michael Kim finished T-7, backed up his win there last year with a good finish. Ludwig T-11, Ryan Gerard, T-14. I thought for sure he was going to go out
Starting point is 01:51:49 win that thing after after getting snubbed here but um they made some changes to the golf national i think to accommodate like a subway line that was going in place is hard man it's like a proper pro golf venue i like it doesn't look pleasant doesn't look enjoyable but i think it identifies who can hit the shots um on the flip side of things it was l pGA was in northwest arkansas and a course that I don't think has ever come close to identifying who can hit the shots. Una Nishamura shot 63, 66, go 21 under through three rounds and win by five. And of course, Lauren Coglin, another shout to her for her nine birdies in a row on her front nine on Saturday, just to make the cut, really.
Starting point is 01:52:41 So I ended up shooting 61, her lowest ever, and I believe it's her birthday today. Happy birthday, L.C. Happy birthday. I'll see. And then just. Sorry, the LPGA, the, the, it's one of those 54 whole events that kind of weird. I don't quite know why we're still doing that. They got to figure something out with this event, with the news.
Starting point is 01:53:01 Those suck. Yeah. It's got good support. Like, it seems like a good event. Just put four rounds. Yeah. Let's take it to a more difficult golf course or something. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:53:11 The U.S. mid-pro or mid-am or whatever they're having up it, up at, uh it's glad it's sand valley uh i kind of wish there was like a live feat of that because would would love it sounds like it's like a basketball court firmness levels uh i was talking to huber earlier he said it's just it's crazy hard uh he made it through to stroke play or to match play from stroke play in front of the program Andrew bailey uh jegg Coughlin uh or Coughlin uh christian cavalier Mike McCoy, your guy ran out. I feel like all the big dogs
Starting point is 01:53:48 making it through to match play. So it should be a good look here over the next couple days. Yeah. Good weather. Good time to be in Wisconsin. Yeah. He were shot even par overall. That was good enough for T-21.
Starting point is 01:54:05 And plus three got into a 13-for-4 playoff, it looks like. How any, I mean, anything out of like the Lido, this is the first big, big event at the Lido. Yeah, I really haven't seen it. Like, I don't know, I've
Starting point is 01:54:22 kind of been bummed. I haven't seen a whole lot of, like, I'm sure we'll see some stuff as they get into match play here. I think it's kind of just crowd control over the first couple of days, because there's, you know, 27, 300 players there. Those caddies. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:54:37 All right. I'm going to move us to wrap then here. We're going to try to get it under the two-hour mark here for our final. President's Cup. Recap. I know it's not, you know, the most marquee golf event ever, but I do think there's a million fun things to dissect and overreact to and flip, flop back and forth. I predict my beginning of the week prediction was almost it was pretty good I was only off by a point and a half What didn't help is that I flipped over to the international's mid-presidents cup thinking they were going to win it But did anybody predict 17 13 13 on our end? I don't remember
Starting point is 01:55:54 I think I was 16 and a half 13 and a half I think I would have I wasn't on the preview but yeah I think that's right I was I was bedridden but I'm pretty sure that's what I shouted that out DJ and I'd actually talk yeah yeah that's you think that's right So that is going to do it.
