Be the right club today.
That's better than most.
How about him?
That is better than most.
Better than most.
Ladies and gentlemen,
welcome back to the No Laying Up podcast.
Sali here,
joined on a Sunday evening with the Carter-Schuster brothers.
Hello, Neil Carter.
How are you?
Oh, greetings.
Good to be with you.
Happy Sunday.
I know you're having a rainy one.
Rainy one in the Northeast,
guys,
day here. What a week. What a week.
My whole neighborhood's just flooded. How is everything
in your part of the of the city, T.C?
Things are good, man. I've been
waiting all, waiting all day for Sunday night.
I'm just still
coming down off that
emotional roller coaster that was
the Jags Eagles game earlier.
It's one of the worst football games I've ever watched
and somehow we came out on top.
Hoosha's Niners just got crowned too.
No, they didn't.
It would be a great game, but I feel like
Cup got that first down. Anyway, Sally, back to the
Well, T.C. I broke my rule today. My rule with the Jags is I can't let them ruin my weekend. I don't, I show up on Sundays and I yell stuff at the TV. I don't listen to podcasts. I don't, you know, I don't follow anything during the week. I just watch the games and I got mad today. Even though they won. They won and they ruined my Sunday. I'm still mad. Yeah. It was horrible.
A play calling from your boy, T.C. Some of the worst officiating I've ever seen. Some of the, some of the worst, just all around bad football. Seriani should lose his job over that one.
Totally.
Big Dom, you know, hurts is horrible, the whole thing.
How are your Eagles chats looking?
Not good, man.
Pretty bleak.
I had some Eagles fans telling me to go F myself.
Kind of like pro-golf critic was this week.
I feel like we may need to check in with our boy.
People are losing it.
People are losing it.
And I was like, listen, people, I'm a fellow birds fan.
Like this hurts for me too, you know.
tonight we are of course going to chat about
Michael Brennan's win in Japan we'll go down the board
just a little bit there had some interesting
speith quotes from across the Pacific as well
got a lot of live news we're going to kind of buzz through that
we had the corned ferry tour championship
finalization of some PJ tour cards there
I want to do a little follow up on the Hall of Fame
discourse from last week I thought
you guys were a little dismissive
dismissive of that
I just want to discuss a few candidacies
for the Hall of Fame.
We'll have some odds and ends.
On the back half, very end, we'll have a conversation.
I caught up with Jackson Coveyman this past week.
We talked a lot of President's Cup stuff with him.
So stay tuned to the very end for that.
Winners from around the world, as mentioned,
Michael Brennan at the Bay Current.
Grant Forrest wins the Open Day of Spain,
presented by Madrid on the DP World Tour.
Austin Hit wins the Corn Ferry Tour Championship
to get his PGA tour card on the Brennan front.
He got it done gaming a full bag of titles to equipment.
A few quick notes.
Michael plays the ProV-1.
It is a lower, long-game spin of the V.
It fits his game best.
It gives him full trust in his ability to hit his numbers.
He loves the softer feel.
At the top of the bag, he's got the GT3 driver,
along with the GTS prototype three wood and a GTS-37 wood.
He blends a T-100-620-CB irons before moving to four Voki-SM-V-V-EGYSM.
He uses a 46FF, a 50F, 54S, and a 60M.
Finally, he was rolling with the Scotty, Cameron Golo, 6, Tour, Pro,
prototype. It's a rounded mid-mallet that really suits his eye. Titlis.com to find a fitting
near you. This golf all happened in the middle of the night for us, uh, or past my bedtime,
I should say. I think they teed off around 9 p.m. Eastern on Saturday night. That's, that's,
that is past my bedtime these days. Past my bedtime. I went to bed at half time of the Georgia
Alabama game. Oh, man. 4945. I caught a little bit on Friday night, Sally. And then I did catch up
on course of sweet. Yeah. Oh, Oklahoma's awesome. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's,
of Corcoranshaw.
Right.
And the finish looked like,
kind of like Travelers or Memorial.
I got a little bit of a whiff of both coming up that hill at the end
with the good crowd there,
rather around the 18th.
I was impressed, get some knowledgeable fans.
Michael Brennan, Zach Beaucho and Jacob Bridgman,
they were all tied for the lead at 13-under heading into the final round.
Adam Scott, Jordan Smith, Justin Thomas,
Stephen Yeager, and Keith Mitchell were just a shot back.
Very bunch leaderboard.
Ryan Gerard, Mac Meisner, and Max Homo.
all three shots back heading into the final round.
Keith went five under and a five-hole stretch.
He had three birdies and an eagle to take a two-shot lead.
Then bogey the ninth did play his last 10 holes in two over par.
Stephen Yeager made the turn at 16-under.
He was tied for the lead.
Adam Scott had it to 15-under.
He went bogey, bogey double on 11 through 13.
Brennan went out in two-under.
He bogeed the 10th to fall a shot back.
He answered with birdies on 11 and 12 to take the lead.
He pard his way in from there had a great green side bunker up and down.
to about a foot on the 16th hole to save par there.
Bridgman missed a birdie putt on 17 that would have tied him
and defending champ Zander Schaulay was one back on 18 drove it left on the trees
made double there.
Brendan shoots 68 to win at 16 under par one clear of Bridgman and Keith Mitchell.
Third, PJ A tour win in less than a year.
Second of 2026 won the win them just a little bit ago.
24 years old is first ever trip to Japan.
T.C. have your moment.
my friend. Get them on the team. I mean, that's, that's what, three and 13 months? Yeah. I mean,
that's pretty good, man. A variety of golf courses he's doing it at. He's doing it. I, you know,
I'm not surprised he was able to clip Keith Mitchell down the stretch. Keith had all that on board.
I know Keith, Keith was probably eating and drinking his way through Japan, you know, and, and I mean,
even newborn, too? Oh, does he? I'm pretty sure. Yeah.
And I think the more important thing for Keith is Keith,
Keith got up to 51st in the FedEx Cup for the fall.
And he's trying to,
he's trying to play Pebble.
He's trying to play his way back to Pebble for this year.
So, you know, that's, you know, priority number one this fall.
That's locked, though.
Isn't it?
Top 50 is locked?
Oh, is it?
No.
He was 51.
Yeah, he was outside of the top 50.
He didn't make BMW.
Right.
But the top 50.
50 for that locks, you can't move up into past 50.
No, no, but like for the swing five or the banana five.
Oh, for the first few.
You're right.
You're right.
Yeah, it wouldn't be exempt for the entire year.
The pineapple is the pineapple.
Pineapple five.
The swingers.
God.
I did, well, I mean, you brought up Keith Mitchell.
Guys, I mean, he's kind of becoming the, I mentioned the, you know, finished 501st, didn't make the BMW.
He's just, he's like, other than speed.
the poster boy of close.
I mean, it may be an eight footer on 18.
I kind of stuffed it on 18 to tie the lead and missed a pretty short one,
like eight to 10 feet to maybe get into a playoff.
I mean, could it, you know, could have changed Brennan's strategy down the stretch,
but that was a bummer.
It was.
But, T.C., you and DJ famously, famously named Michael Brennan one of the top 10 players
in the world without a major this year to start the year.
Will he be on the list next year?
Yeah, will you be apologizing for making fun of us for that?
I don't think so.
I mean, these are challenge track events, TC.
I mean, three of them is great.
No, no, actually, Neil, one of them is a championship series event.
Not championship field this past year that he won, but yes.
Wind him?
It's the go, Neil, go.
Thank you for not making me be the bad guy here, Neil, in dismissing people.
I think it's really impressive.
I think that Michael Brennan, of all these young stars, has the best.
looking swing. And, and I mean, it is a beautiful golf swing. Beautiful move. He's got crazy
speed. Obviously, it hits at a mile. I think he's got a lot of upside. But I don't know if he's a top
10 player in the world right now, T.C. I don't think I can go without a major. Top 10 player without a
major. Excuse me. I don't mind. Ryan Gerard, Jackson Coyven, Luke Clinton. Yeah, I just don't know.
Get him on the team, maybe. But very good. And I'm very good. I'm thrilled that he's, that he's, you know,
kind of break it out here. That's great.
You guys will both come up with something here.
I'm thinking of either a football player or a baseball player that is like really
toolsy, but doesn't have like the greatest minor league or college pedigree,
like the, not the, you know, but has clear potential, clear skills,
five tool player, just an outrageous swing, outrageous distance, you know, but not out of
control in any way.
Like just you're waiting for somebody with that kind of profile to blossom into something.
There's been a lot of guys that've kind of come up with something like that,
that have not turned into like habitual winners on the PGA tour and he's put it together
relatively quickly.
What's a what's a competent other sport you'd come up with for somebody like that in that
description?
Who is who who has turned out well?
Yes, has turned out well.
Yeah.
Okay.
I'm putting you on the spot with that one.
But that's what I think of with Brennan.
It's like it, you know, we were not talking about Michael Brennan prior to his win in Utah.
like he was not a Jackson Coyvin type prospect.
It's kind of like Brock Purdy.
That's kind of what I'm looking for there.
That's a really good one.
That's what I'm looking for there.
I wouldn't call Mr. Irrelevant,
but that's kind of what I'm saying.
It's like he looks real.
And I don't want to do this with every victory between now and next August
when picks are made.
But like,
he's on the radar for Ryder Cup next year.
Like absolutely on the radar.
We're not going to put them on a team.
We're not going to do that right now, TC.
We're not going to do that every week.
Who knows what you're,
your point system looks like yeah i honestly don't remember i don't even know if fall events are counting
i hope they're not counting but uh he's got to be in the conversation so great win for him finding
the way to win golf tournaments that's that's that's you know invaluable right there that's
yeah listen and good look it's good to see some signs of life from zander
for richmond keeps playing playing well at the first round 63 so all good sally i know you're a big
Ren Yonazawa guy.
He had a nice T9.
Last thing on Brennan, I'll say, like, the back nine was playing super hard.
Like, it played over par.
And so it's not like just track meets that Brennan is winning, like just the birdie fest.
But Utah's a bit of a birdie fest.
You know, Wyndham, that course yields quite a bit of birdies and doesn't, you know,
doesn't really have the defense.
Like, there was some defense going on there.
And to get it done with everybody else around him faltering.
I mean, when I was checking in on the highlights and seeing what the leaderboard looked after
nine, I'm like,
wait a second. Brennan wins this at
16 under par and
yeah, he was just the only one that did not
fall through down the stretch. So
if you had to take, how would
you rank just going forward
TC, how would you rank Bridgman,
Coyven, Thorbjornson?
Bridgman,
Thorbjornson. Yeah, I mean like so.
Sorry, Brennan,
Brennan, Bridgman,
Coyven, Thorbjornson.
Like for the rest of their careers or for the next
18 months?
Did you tell me?
You tell me.
You've got to tell you.
You're the one asking the question.
I mean, they're careers.
Yeah, they're careers.
Listen, I'm going to stick my neck out.
I'm going to say Brennan.
Give me Brennan, Coyvin, Thorbiornson, Bridgman.
Okay.
And that's got sticking my neck out with Thorbjornson ahead of Bridgman, too, because
I don't know if Thorbjornson's got the it factor.
I'm going to go Coyven, Brennan, Bridgman, Thorbjornson, would be my four.
Neil, any gut on that?
I'm with T.C., I think.
Again, I feel like the proof, having the three wins this quickly, less hype, I think is a good thing.
You know, he can exceed expectations.
It's kind of like he's coming out.
Coivin's got a lot of pressure on him.
So that's a factor here.
You know, he handled it the President's Cup.
But and then I'd say, I mean, Bridgman's, you know, he's kind of stuck around here this year, right?
Really?
I know it wasn't a, like a decisive win at Genesis.
But then at Biltmore, it looked good.
And I think he's got game, man.
Now, the sustainability model stressed me out a little bit there.
Solly that, you know, he's just such a good putter.
It feels like a lot of, you know, that always worries me.
He's not the best ball striker.
but I think he's proven that he's,
you know, consistent,
sustainable. That's why I'm picking
Brennan is just the
like the traits just seem the loudest.
Off the charts, man.
Yeah.
Like I look at,
I guess what I was saying about is golf swing.
Like you look at Coyvin, I worry, like,
that swing looks like it hurts.
You know, it's like, man, that's,
that's an awesome swing, but it's like,
I'm worried like Zalotaurus.
Are we,
we are torting our body into a funky position
at impact.
Whereas Brennan,
just looks really smooth and fluid and like it it's like damn that thing is that that looks like
it's pretty easy on the body for how hard he's swinging at it it's easy on the eyes man i think that guy's
gonna generate some some fan interest next year yeah it reminds me a little cameron young i mean not
like the actual golf swing looks very very different but um i know we've we've said that before
you know with the weight comparison but i mean just the absolute ball striking cajone
really is what it is.
Like it's just a
strike and Jesse.
Yeah,
just completely different depth to it.
I don't have a whole lot else
from the Bay Current
other than Jordan Speed gave some quotes
this week that,
look,
I've been as cynical
and pessimistic on the speed front
as I've ever been in my life
in my career in recent months.
He's got to piqued my interest a little bit.
Like this didn't sound like the normal
I'm close, right?
Let me read these stories.
He says,
speed reflects on playing good golf.
at the end of the season, quote,
felt like I just ran out of weeks.
I had a lot better season than the results showed.
I'm really excited about what the next bunch of years
can produce going forward.
I feel as healthy and as strong as ever.
I was pretty excited for this off season.
Didn't feel like I had to work on a ton of things.
I just need to be playing more and practicing,
knocking in more putts.
So that's what I've been doing.
Wow.
Who was this too?
I don't know.
I couldn't find.
where it actually was.
It was,
if it was a press conference or where the actual,
where the actual quotes were.
I mean,
it was a presser.
It was a presser.
Yeah,
I'm going to break that down.
I'm the,
I'm really excited about the next next bunch of years.
I love that,
you know,
we're thinking,
we're thinking in decades right now.
We're thinking in five years out.
I mean,
I love it,
Sali,
that's exciting.
We're not done.
Beautiful boy.
He said,
he's roping us back in.
My mechanics are more sound than they've been for a while.
And that sounds a little bit like the old I'm close part, but just the, you know.
His DNA.
He's, he's, he's, uh, mapping his DNA.
And the PGATor posted a little real, uh, during a practice on birdie three holes in a row in a practice round.
I mean, I don't know what else you need to say he's back.
T-13 finish, 11 under par, five shots back of the lead.
We're monitoring.
We're monitoring a potential speed renaissance for, uh, for 27.
The part that was funny is the end.
I just need to be playing more and, and, and,
practicing knocking in more puts.
I was like,
ah,
Jordan,
I think there's,
I mean,
I don't know,
you hit some real squirly ones
there last season.
I don't know if knocking in more puts
is all we need to be doing.
But I love it.
He seems like he's in a good headspace.
Sallie,
I was a little bummed to see J.T.
Shoot 75 in the final round.
He kind of kicked a shot
at being right in the mix.
Like he was,
he finished at minus eight
and probably could have been right in,
right in the mix of this thing.
And that's the flip side of,
I have a habit of doing this too,
of like,
Yeah, Brennan's won three times, but it's all, but it's smaller events.
But like, he, like, a bunch of these dudes are winning way more frequently than like the Speeth and JT's, right?
And then the Zanders even these days and the Cantlays these days.
Like it's, it, uh, that part is noteworthy.
I mean, we talked a lot about it flew to fucking Japan and like where, you know, a lot of the guys don't leave the country.
He flew to Japan and beat, yeah, Hideki, Colin, Zander, Speeth, JT.
Like, he beat a damn good field, you know, it's, it's, it's, uh,
more power to him.
You know, jet lag, language barrier,
different kind of grass, all of it, man.
Yeah, JT doubled the opening hole.
Only made one birdie on the fourth hole,
and then it made three back nine bogeys,
like a lot of guys did.
But yeah, dropped him from just one back
going to the final round to finishing six, eight back.
So don't have a whole lot of else on the PGA tour news front.
Other than T.C.,
I think you put this one in here.
I just kidding, couldn't believe it.
The pro shop closed on a $24 million series B funding round.
That's wild, man.
A lot of money.
What's it for?
What do we do?
I just don't, this is the part of the business I don't care to understand or try to understand.
I think probably acquire more small, you know, channels and subcultures under this holding company.
I just I struggled to understand how with venture money when you know series B content doesn't scale the way software does.
So the venture model for content's always been it's always made me scratch my head.
This is someone who worked at a tech content business, my first job out of college that tried to run this and, you know, went out of business.
Because it's just hard to scale content.
It's hard to, you know, human.
I was wearing humans had to write research papers, you know what I mean?
Yeah.
And Neil, they're talking about experiential and events and all that, which are also.
scale.
Very.
And high touch and, you know, I think all that can be a good business.
It's just when you try to supercharge it, I think you can get pretty disorganized.
But listen, it's, it's A.B.
D.C.
Arthur Blame.
It's A.B.
It's A.B.
It's Wick.
Wick Grosbeck.
And, I mean, listen, they got the, they also have the access with the PGA tour.
They can, you know, they use the highlights and stuff.
I mean, I know we'd love to use the highlights.
that's a valuable thing. So I wish them all the best. I think it's just it for me I'm like,
I don't know, man. That that that kind of money starts a shot clock on a,
on a business that makes me a little uncomfortable. But I guess if you have the right people
back and you, maybe that's a safety net. Also, one more thing from the Baker. Aldrich
pock eater finished last. Was you not hitting the flop seven wood around the green very well this
week? Oh, also your guy, um,
Short game chef was posting some really just sexual stuff of, you know, Keith hitting Seven
Woods in and all sorts of nippers and spinners around.
Don't get him canceled.
It wasn't actual sexual stuff.
It was golf contest.
No, it was really, yeah.
You know, someone taking that out of contact, you know?
No, no.
Context.
So it's real sex.
Sorry.
I spent.
I had some travel this week, you know, travel up and back.
I spent so much time on the gram.
You guys follow Big Tick golf by chance?
No.
Oh, God.
What is this?
This guy, big tick golf.
He is, it's like, there's big tick golf and there's big falc golf and they're kind of
boys.
But big tick golf, he's down in Jupe, you know, the Palm Beach is he's just, it's like basically
everything that we wanted the punch bowl pack to turn into.
It is, it is like just all gas, no brakes.
They're logo maxing.
They're doing all sorts of stuff.
He hits the shit out of the ball.
Neil, you would love it.
Big tick golf.
Back.
All right.
I'll take a gander, man.
I mean, I got the, you know, minor league burners coming out for me for the, for my, for
my golf shoes.
You know, at least, at least big ticks put in his face out there.
You know, all these burners with their dumb names trying to, trying to come out of here,
I'm told that I was talking to some of the burners, some of the reputable burners.
And they said that, that this Devereaux,
You know, mid-tier fake burner is a, is a clown.
Nobody likes this guy.
Doesn't have the respect to the burner community.
God didn't get his tour card.
He's clearly corn fairy.
Unbelievable.
He said, oh, Devereaux bird dog.
It's so zany.
These names are so zany, guys.
It's unbelievable.
So, T.C., I will check out Big Tick because it sounds like he's.
Big Tick will bring you joy.
Good vibes and joy.
He seems like he's human.
He's putting his face out there.
I like that.
Put your face.
Put your name on your takes, people.
is it still golfing weather up near where you are, Neil?
Is it still?
Sali, I played Friday morning with Tito, our videographer and Max, another guy we've been working with.
And we had such a good round.
And T.C., we put it at Wachung Valley.
We did a little Holderness and Born photo shoot.
That place is awesome.
It was awesome.
Solly, they're short course there, the merry go around.
Can't say enough good things.
Blake Conant shout out.
I mean, it was, it was,
he's from a twisted mind.
Yeah, like Rainer died, I guess, before he,
before he finished it.
And it's sick.
It's awesome.
To answer your question,
perfect.
I mean,
this is like more so than spring,
Salli,
like you just,
you really savor October golf up here.
Like the leaves are changing and the colors and the crisp bear.
You get to wear pants on the course.
It's just really, really, really nice.
Temperatures dropping wind picking up.
Figuring out how far the golf ball is actually going to travel becomes a lot more difficult.
That's one of the reasons why we've become such big fans of the Arcos Smart Laser Rangefinder.
We talked about it before, but it's incredible.
It's the only range finder that automatically adjust your plays-like distance for real-time weather,
including wind and gusts.
It gives you a range, but this is what it's playing based on the wind.
And if it's gusting, here's how much you should play.
it gives you it based on temperature humidity altitude and slope humidity does make the ball fly farther
despite what some people will tell you the accuracy is crazy so if you're again if you're lasering a
flag at like 165 but it's 50 degrees out you've got 15 mile an hour wind in your face that shot
might be playing something like 180 so most range finders are only going to give you the distance
maybe adjusted for slope the arco smart laser actually tells you what the shot is playing
based on the conditions right now does that automatically you don't have to do any of the math in your
or guess how much the wind or temperature is going to affect the ball.
It's a massive advantage this time of year,
especially as we start transitioning out of that summer heat
where the ball's flying everywhere.
I wanted to hate that.
Like I wanted to be so skeptical and all that.
It's remarkable.
It's great.
I mean, if you peek at your phone to it,
recommends what club you should hit too.
It's great.
We've talked a ton about Arcos game tracking this year.
We've been tracking our rounds with Arcos Air using the new app.
The insights are incredible.
I've learned so much about my game, makes me want to play more golf.
But if you're not quite ready to start tracking your game,
you can still get the massive benefit from Arcos with a smart laser.
You don't need to track your shots or have sensors in your clubs.
None of that.
You can just use the smart laser on its own,
get these incredibly accurate plays-like distances on every shot.
Also good access to Arcos AI strategy.
It uses your game, the course layout hazards and conditions
to help you figure out the smartest club and target.
So you're getting better information before every shot,
making smart decisions, taking a lot of the guesswork out of golf.
I've not, the best estimate I can give it is like,
when I'm not playing good anymore, I shoot like two over.
And I have raised my, my floor so much when I used to like shoot six, seven, eight over quite
frequently. And I have to credit Arcos with a ton of that.
Like, it is just really, really, really, tightened up my, my dispersions and my, using that
information has been great. So Arcosgolf.com, A-R-C-C-O-Sgolf.com, promo code NLU-15
will help you save 15% over there. Amazing product. I really, really, really, really enjoy it.
So, hell yeah.
Neil, speaking to Arthur Blank, the Falcons are on Sunday night tonight.
Yeah, they are.
Dome, you know, M.B. Stadium just looking, looking as, as dystopian as always.
Place is just such a, I've never been.
It's so characterless and quiet.
It's like a, I can't stand it.
That's what I would use to describe the Braves.
Is it truest feel, whatever that is now?
I never even been there either, but on TV.
I don't mind truest.
And it was rocking in the playoffs, even though they, they lost.
Well, first time, they weren't really.
Solly just hates the Braves.
He hates the Braves.
He hates the, he hates the entire American.
He hates the Reds.
I mean, he hates everybody.
It's fun.
He just hates baseball.
I just love the Dodgers.
On, we've got some live golf news this week.
I don't know what the top priority here is, but I'm going to go with Ben Parsons report
with today's golfers.
He said a significant number of live golfers are an advanced.
talks over an exit plan that will guarantee them starts in the DP World Tour on the condition they don't sign up with the relaunched league.
In the article, it says, agents have been exploring potential pathways out of live on behalf of players ever since it emerged at the Saudi Public Investment Fund would be withdrawing its multi-million dollar backing of the league in April.
And bosses at Wentworth are now in negotiations with a significant number of players planning to use a DP World Tour as a landing ground next season.
Good. Love it.
Yeah. I mean, smart move,
stepping on their necks. It's no longer
the same competitor when they can't dangle
tens of millions of dollars, if not hundreds
of millions in front of these guys.
And there's a
the opportunity for these guys to
sign up for something that is stable,
that is funded with the help of the PGA tour,
to know they can play many, many,
many DP World Tour events next year instead of
maybe 10 live ones if everything works out
great is a damn good offer.
And they are not, no.
And I think there's some discussion to be had on like, what happened here?
Like, we, they had releases to play on Live and come back to play the DP World Tour with the minimum number of events.
What happened here?
Well, it's like in this process, again, the Live made more attempts to steal events away from the DP World Tour, despite this arrangement.
And DP World Tour is done.
Like, you're not, we're not doing this anymore.
We know you're on the run.
We know we can pull this off and probably execute it.
and it's a smart move.
Amen.
Yeah, I mean, and I think if you're,
uh,
if you're someone who's otherwise eligible for the majors,
you need starts to,
to warm up and,
and keep your game sharp.
And a guy like,
you know,
whether it's a Cam Smith or a Joaquin Neiman or,
uh,
uh,
an Adrian Moranke,
you know,
who's playing well right now.
Like,
yeah,
those guys need,
need reps.
So,
uh,
and,
And, you know, these tours do want them back, right?
It's like, hey, let's get this over with.
Let's get everybody back in the ecosystem and get on with it.
And this is like your last best offer.
You better fucking take it.
Or like you're, you are kind of permanently out the door or you're, you're going to be ostracized.
That's a great opportunity for, you know, for, I mean, the PGA tour is not, does not seem like it's going to happen, of course, for next year, at least a year suspension from the last time these guys teated up in live events.
but PJ Tour is also spending a lot of money on the DP World Tour
and sure wouldn't hate to have those events get propped up
and not have to give into their own PJ Tour membership,
give up spots in tournaments to live guys that are double-dipping.
I think this is a great arrangement for everybody except for Scott O'Neill, really.
Do we know how long the DP World sponsorship deal is for?
It's a great question.
I don't think they're doing all that well right now with the,
you know, all the shutdowns over there.
Like, 10-0-20-30 extension.
20-35.
Okay.
Okay. Like, I know a bunch of the, there were a few guys that signed up for Spanish Open this past week
because they were trying to get their minimum number of DP World Tour events out of the way prior to,
like, so they don't have to go to the Middle East if and when they do hold those events over there
if they don't move them to Spain or Portugal.
But, yeah, there's just a lot of, I mean,
that $70 million, you know, underpinning that the PGA tour did this year is, it feels
unsustainable.
So. Yeah, I'd like to like to know more about that. I think it is, you know, does it look like that
in a world where lives no longer in existence or no longer a threat? I met there are some
costs embedded in that. I would have to think in some way. And maybe purchase.
don't stay up as high as they are now.
But I agree. It does seem unsustainable.
And I would be, I'd like to talk to somebody smarter than me that is more tied into that world
to lay out what that would actually look like.
But PJ Tours got a lot of money, man.
A lot, a lot, a lot of cash, a lot of cash from SSG.
And it's to be able to make bigger plays that are a little unsustainable in a short period
of time.
It was to be there to help stave off, live golf.
And they've done that.
I mean, almost literally, there is still this attempt for live two,
which we're going to get into a little bit later this week.
But the one update in that article was lived was granted a 12-day extension to convince players to stay for the proposed relaunch after BC partner's credit conditionally agreed to invest a total of 300 million into the post-Saudy project.
So two questions there.
One, who granted the 12-day extension like a judge?
Yes.
Bankruptcy court.
Just to confirm that.
And two, conditionally agreed is doing a lot of heavy lifting on that $300 million.
So maybe three things.
So like how much, you know what are the conditions?
I would love to love to hear about those conditions, which I'm sure is like, hey, make sure the players come back.
You know, so that's that's two.
And three, think about this.
300 million sounds like a lot.
We're talking about it used to, it was four, five billion.
I mean, 300 million.
Like I don't know.
Is that a lot of money?
Yes.
Is that going to make a difference?
I don't think so.
And especially if we can't meet these conditions.
I don't know.
So those are, that's my reaction to just, because I've been reading BC partners, they're white nights.
They're going to come save the day.
I'm like, I think these guys are like freaking vultures, man.
For sure.
They're going to come in and pick the carcass.
These are like taradactals.
I know.
I know.
Watch out, man.
Like, it's just, I don't think this is going to end well for Scott.
I mean, it's the net operating losses is what they're after.
And yeah, it's a, that's, I get pretty uncomfortable talking about that of, of what a new
venture they'd be setting up would look like and how they would use the net operating losses to
offset gains from other companies that would roll up under this new venture and how they would
roll out. This is what you used to do, isn't it? I didn't work on the capital side though. Like it gets,
that's the part that you get the capital bros involved in your DMs. You just don't want that. Financial
engineering, baby. Let's go. Neil, I think, I think Scott O'Neill needs to be careful when he's just
making quotes. He had a quote this week about, you know, this is like a business plan, business plan. This
isn't like a Saudi business plan. This is a business plan,
which I get what he was after there of like the Saudis were making a big ass play
and it didn't need to make financial sense off the jump to like now it needs to.
But yeah, he can't stop putting his foot in his mouth.
Yeah, like I think if I'm Yasser, I'm like, all right, that's enough out of you over there,
chief. What say does Yasser have over him anymore though? Like, I don't know. You saw what they
did to well, yeah, that's that's good point. I meant I meant, I meant,
legally, but yeah, anyways, moving on.
One of the names that could
benefit from this, Joaquin Neiman,
Neiman did lose his status
on the DP World Tour after failing to play the
minimum number of events would need
to enter DP World Tour Q School,
but he looks like
to be headed for the exits.
He's one of the most prolific winners,
bona fide star, and before
winning the Chilean Open last week, Neiman
talked up the prospect of returning to the PGA
tour, but also acknowledged that is unlikely to happen
anytime soon.
It sounds like he's a bona fide dude, just like, just like Johnny Rombo.
On that note, I was noted in court.
David Rumsie reported these quotes that Ram's lawyer voiced that he will not be in
Live 2.0.
He said, First Your Honor, Mr. Ramos independently reviewed the proposed terms of Live 2.0
as the parties have been referring to it and has determined that those terms are unacceptable
as to him.
He will not be participating in Live 2.0.
as Mr. Martyrana alluded to, the parties, therefore, are in advance discussions for a consensual separation agreement of Mr. Rom and Live that goes beyond the scope of the rejection motion that is before your honor today.
And so to that end, we hope to finalize that separation agreement and have a 9019 motion before your honor on or before October 15th to be heard at the November 5th hearing.
who gets legion
13 does that go with
Rom or does that stay with Liv?
I mean is it an asset or is that a liability?
I don't know.
Well that guy,
the Goldthorpe guy did say personal thing.
Without awful the colors and the logo are.
I think it's a liability.
I mean,
Rob should be showing up from
from here on out like wearing
normal stuff.
You know? And like taking a step forward
or like reclaiming his dignity.
Right?
Yeah.
long road back. I looked up
9019 motion as a request
filed in bankruptcy cases
asking a judge to approve a settlement
compromise or binding arbitration agreement.
It's probably going to be like 9019 and
the lawyers are going to be all over us for that one.
I don't know what it actually is. I mean,
sorry I spelled it out, 9019.
That's what I did too. I was like, that's probably the wrong
thing. I was afraid to even say that.
I guess my question is like
the parties therefore in advance discussions
for consensual separation agreement.
Like is Rahm trying to get like
squeezed just a little bit more out of the towel of his, let's say, 300 million,
probably has probably got like, let's say you got 100 of it up front.
He's owed 200.
Like, what do you think he's trying to settle for?
That's, you know, that's kind of the question I have.
It's like, just trying to get 10 more.
Yeah.
It's fascinating, right?
And who, like, who are they sue?
I guess they're suing the entity in bankruptcy court.
Is he suing?
Is that what Rom's doing?
We're going to do all this, this or later this week, Neil, with somebody smarter
than us that I think can help break down a lot of the legal nuance.
Sorry, I'm almost just trying to say it out loud.
No, I agree.
I'm asking questions.
You know, because it's when it starts to get into the legalese and I'm like,
creditors, debiter, it's like who's, it's just crazy that the, yeah, the Saudis can just walk away.
Like, oh, somebody else's problem.
It really is.
It's like, yeah, we said we were going to pay these people all this money and now we're just,
we're not going to do it.
So, and it's like a little bit like sanctioning me with your army.
Like you don't, yeah, you're not going to.
so it's kind of it's fascinating so sorry I don't mean to derail things no I'm just laughing at the
people that just with their with their adult lives just spend all of their time defending everything
this league possibly does like to start with from like oh the golf format's great to be like no no this is
no they they should do this they should you don't understand that songs are playing chess man
like they're in this forever like I think that this week he used that exact term chess it was talking
about DP World Tour but
But our guy PGC told us all this, you know, how all this was going to play out.
There's been nobody more right.
They're 32 steps ahead, you know.
It's wild, man.
But yet, I mean, yeah, Rom looks, you know, I guess, again, I still think you, I'd love to at some point in the next five years kind of do the math on like how much, you know, he wanted to, he did make a lot of money.
So it's like, why don't you just walk away, you know, and that's what seems like that's what he's doing.
So this is a step in the right direction for Rob.
he's declaring that Liv 2.0 is not acceptable for him.
He's moving on.
So good for Johnny Rombo.
I think that's a step in the right direction.
And it's weird.
It's weird that like I think we all kind of knew he was out.
But official news this week,
Rom's leaving live is just feel like it was barely a drop in the bucket.
I know.
Yeah.
Like that is a headline that kind of is.
He's back in the boys club.
How to live.
He's back in the boys club.
Maybe he's just.
done. He's not a dude anymore, according to TC. Maybe he never was one.
So I do still, and I know you probably don't, guys, I don't have the answer to this.
But I am curious now, like with Patrick Reed. So he's over a year since he was in his last
live in. Is he? Could he go play corn fairy if he wanted to? I mean, he'll probably choose to play
DP World because it's better purses and stuff. But could he start like, you know,
try to fall. Or fall series. Yeah. As I understand it. If somebody wanted to give him a sponsor exemption,
yeah. Yeah. Okay.
But, like, could he go do, you know, I guess he'd have to wait and go do Q school next year.
Like, I guess my, what I'm asking is maybe a theoretical question.
He's going to get his PGA tour card through the DP World Tour.
The DP World Tour, the top 10, D.P.
Tour cards.
Yes.
Exactly.
So, so that's, is that.
He is tourbound.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's kind of what I'm asking.
That's the kind of the point of my question.
Like, are we going to see P?
Yes.
Yeah.
And that was, that was, I mean, if you remember he won on the DP World Tour before the live season started.
So that was, that kind of changed his calculus of playing in the first live event, I think was like, well, wait a second here.
I'm basically like I can, I'm going to finish top 10 to DP World Tour now.
I'll be back on PJ Tour next year.
Maybe I just don't do live this year.
Okay.
So I just, I guess I didn't realize that the PJ Tour declared that like, hey, you just have to serve your one year suspension and like, you're, you're good.
Like they didn't.
They haven't declared that as a universal rule, but they did announce when Reed.
Reid got in contact with him.
I don't have the exact language in front of me,
but Reed did clarify that with the PGA tour.
Team Reed.
Team Reed before he made that final decision.
The PJA tour, I remember their announcements had something like,
that he had reached out and they informed him of what the punishment would be.
They reached out with interest of returning,
and they said it would be a year from your last date.
Reed was not in the lawsuit, though, is that right?
but he was into a bunch of other lawsuits, but more to come on that.
Are they, sorry, not to derail it again,
but are they going to make him do the same stuff that they made Brooks do,
like the charity donation and he can't.
I don't think, I don't think so.
I can't do it.
I don't know about charity.
Equity, he will not be eligible for for at least four years, I want to say.
Actually, I might have that, actually.
He is, I can definitively say he is not,
will not have access to equity for at least a few years.
Okay.
The main thing with Brooks was like the fine, I think, obfuscated the need for a suspension.
Okay.
That makes sense.
I think that was right just to get back as soon as possible.
Remaining names, David Pooge is out at Liv.
Adrian Moronk is out.
Sergio's contract with Liv has been terminated.
Also from David Rumsey of Front Office supports.
Lawyers for Bryson, Cam Smith, Ben-on, Mark Leishman, Cameron Tringaleigh, Matthew Wolfe,
and Harold Varner III, sought clarity about their conference.
and whether Garcia's situation of getting his contract terminated sets a precedent for all players.
Of those names listed there, Cam Tringali has been confirmed by TC's guy,
Flush as being in for 2.0.
Flush also confirmed Blandy.
Yeah.
Massive.
So I know, you know, obviously you've got Maronk is out.
Victor Perez is out.
I think he's been playing.
D.P. World Tour. Marant desperately wants to make the
Rider Cup team.
So,
so when he says Sergio Garcia's contract with Liv was,
like,
was terminated?
Who terminated that?
Was that for cause by Live for him, like,
bad-mouthing him?
No, that was a request.
He had a request.
So,
like, PGA Tour,
and I don't know exactly how it's going to the DP World Tour.
PGA Tour won't even talk to you if you're a live player,
unless you can illustrate that you are not in contract with live anymore.
Like, that's been their thing.
So he was seeking language from Live to say that he's released from his contract and can begin having conversations with with with Tours.
And that's what the note there from David was that other lawyers for those other players have also sought to say like whether his situation set the precedent for for other players.
They want the principal to sign the road.
Yes.
Classed.
All paths.
Yeah.
Yeah.
This is wild.
And then just to tie a bow on this, pro golf critics said, quote, Shane Ryan, like most of the corrupt golf media is an ugly dork that thinks he speaks for all golf fans.
They, them, have co-opted their integrity for a modicum of access to the pro golf world to fund whatever bullshit venture he has next.
He is a disgrace to the Duke alum base.
Oh, man.
I hate, I hate, I hate, the alums going after each other down at dude.
And then, and then PGC was getting getting, getting.
dirty in the replies. He said, F off. I've been too nice. You and him can eat a bag of
eggplants. And that's the eggplant emoji in there. Thank you, T.C. I'm worried about our guy.
You know what? It's kind of, oh, Doyle, I got a feeling your whole family's going down soon.
I should have called my guy flush up today to have him model.
up on Jason Kelsey over in the UK. Having him on the call today was tough. I thought he was actually
kind of good in the booth. Tough welcome to start. He's been he's overexposed. I thought he was actually
pretty decent in the booth. But it's guys, fall is here. Holderness and Bourne's fall collection is here as
well. They got great new arrivals. They got new colors inspired by the landscape, the color and
coastline of northern California. Your favorites are there plus a whole lot more. I am in the
Allison tonight. T.C. called it the hoodie of the year. And I got a little
vest over it as well because I just, I've been dying to wear some of these
winter pieces from our friends at Holderness and Bourne.
Shout out to the pants. Great, great pants. Go if you're looking for us.
Yes. Good stretch for the Quad fathers out there. Highly recommend
exploring their hand to offer. Neil, Neil, how about that that color, that stripe color that
you had this week.
Yeah.
And it was like kind of gray, kind of green.
We couldn't tell.
It was a true mystery.
It was awesome.
Is that on the Hamilton?
The Hamilton hoodie is, I can't get enough of that one either.
Hamilton's great.
I've got,
what do I have on right now?
I think I have the,
the Fletcher.
I got the Fletcher on.
It's like,
it's become my kind of go-to,
go-to travel piece.
The Buckley's great.
That's the cash mirror one.
Yeah, it's,
and then the Barrett has been awesome too.
That's like a little ribbed one as well.
So it's my favorite stuff in the game.
It's like their fall stuff every year.
Like their fall collection is just as good as it gets.
You got a bunch of collegiate stuff up there as well.
Great website.
HBGolf.com.
You can use code NLU10 to get you 10% off.

On the Corn Ferry Tour, Ross Steelman locks up the number one spot.
It was between him and Sandy Scott to lock up that number one spot
and all the exemptions that come with that one.
If you missed it, we did a pod with him in early September.
He was great.
I think a lot of people are going to be big Ross Steelman fans into next year.
And this gets them into the players.
Gets them into the players.
And we'll be seeing him come to Pontevira come next March.
Steelman had already locked up his spot, of course, prior to this week, as did Scott.
Other names that had already locked up their tour cards, Ian Holt, Alvaro Ortiz, Doc Redmond,
not a real doctor, Cole Sherwood, Alistair Docherty, Tommy Morrison, Cooper Dossi, Hunter, Iichorn, Dylan, Manante.
Manate?
I was a choke on that one.
Michael Johnson and Jeremy Gandon.
Other names, Blades Brown locked up.
He was the first one that was not locked up in the 14th spot.
He had a great week runner up.
Moved from 14th to 9th.
Taylor Dixon, Ian Gilligan, Davis Shore, and Carson Young all held onto the spots they were holding.
Austin hit won the Corn Ferry Tour Championship.
He moved from 22nd up to 6th with the win.
It really well.
Bad weather.
It was bad.
They moved up two times.
Quite well, yeah.
Davis Lamb moved from 23rd to 20th to get that last tour card.
Cole Hammer and Ben Coles were the two names that were in the top 20
that fell back on the outside.
Which not a concern for Coles because he is inside the top 100 in FedEx.
I think he's like 83rd or something like that.
I was going to say he had some good finishes on the he was in Japan.
Yeah, yeah, he played Bay Current this week.
And played well.
And then I think the biggest surprise for me was
what's his name James Nicholas he won this year and didn't get his card like just didn't
didn't have it I think he got hurt I think he missed some time with injured I think he's trying
hurt like midsummer right yeah like right around the open and he was trying to play trying to play
through it through the rest of the year but yeah I think he finished around around 30th and we'll
be back on the corned three tour there I like that move from 20 from 25 from 30 cards or 25
cards to 20 is a big difference too. It's like the margins are thinner because there's,
I don't know, there's 30 something events. Like you can win an event and not get your card,
which is crazy. Which I'd be curious. I don't think they announced in the new point system is
the corn fairy tour point system going to change similar to how the PGA tour point system changed.
I would hope so because I think what they've done on the PGA tour is smooth things out a lot more
and it's less dependent on having major peak weeks,
you know, where you can have some peak weeks and rest.
Like Corn Ferry makes such a difference if you finish third or fifth in a tournament,
trying to get enough points to qualify and you need to have those massive weeks
on these Birdie Fest golf courses.
Like, if that gets a little bit more smoothed out,
the race towards tour cards might look very different as well.
So I don't think that's been announced at this point as of, for 2028 and into the challenge.
It has not, to my knowledge.
Yeah.
So that should be interesting.
On the DP World Tour, Grant Forrest,
Bertie the 18th hole to win by one over Gene Chikara
and Victor Perez Chikara.
He went nuclear.
I always get a tickle whatever the nuclear golf,
you know,
tags somebody with the honor of,
he's gone nuclear.
It might be a bigger honor than the flame emoji on the PJ Tour leaderboard.
Gene,
just watching Gene Chikara with the long potter,
and he has a glove on when he's using the long putter.
It's really like serial killer stuff.
It's special.
He had four birdies and an eagle on the front nine.
I mean, he was like, I think he thought he still was at a live event.
He was pumping up the crowd for his home open.
Also birded the 18th, but he had a bogey on 17, the par three.
That was the difference for him.
But Perez, Victor Perez could not get up and down on the short driveable 18th hole.
Forrest did get up and down from Greenside.
forced 33 years old
296 in the world
now gets in the Masters
with this national open victory
third DP tour
DP World Tour win
he won the hero in 21
and won the NXO last year
I love that 18s old
I didn't get to watch a lot of this live
but catching up on that one
was a good environment out there
yeah and like Ludwig
showed up this week
he had several other guys play
just getting like I said
getting those
getting those starts in
and I think the
The field's pretty strong for next week or for, is it next week or whenever they play next in India.
Yeah.
In India.
It's next week.
Yeah, you got Bob P's playing.
Rory's playing.
Boxes playing.
Aaron Rye.
Marank, Lowry.
You know, your guy, Thriston Lawrence.
Sure.
Michael Hollick of the golf holics.
Casey Jarvis, Tommy, Fleetwood, you know.
So.
Are you guys want to do Rider Cup next or Hall of Fame?
Which one's next?
They both involved a lot of Jim Furik.
Let's do Ryder Cup first.
Okay.
There was a one-year-out media day at Adair Manor, Jim Furic, Luke Donald were there.
I thought some of Jim Furik's comments were interesting.
We're tracking it.
We're looking into it.
He said the U.S. is a clear underdog in the never-ending race or who can identify
themselves as an underdog the earliest for the Rider Cup. He did talk clearly about taking the
force and his problem seriously. He said it was not an anomaly. Said I plan on making some changes.
I would say, one, as captains, we need to do a better job. Not only put the folks into good
pairings and good positions, but I don't think we are preparing for those matches in a proper way.
And I will promise you we will be prepared. I'm going to ask this team to do more than any other
United States team has in the past. We'll be prepared. We'll be ready to go in that format.
And we can hopefully showcase our talent. We have too much debt.
to have that poor record in alternate shot.
Good luck getting, getting PC and, you know, the X-Man to show up on their free time.
I want to do it trust falls, Sallie.
I mean, maybe some, maybe some dance class, some cotillion, you know, like let's get them dancing.
You need you to dance.
I, I, again, I want Jim saying this.
I want these exact words to be coming out.
I'm going to ask more of this team that's ever been asked in the past.
We're going to be changing things.
I, of course, will wait to see how this plays out.
I am very much believe it when I see it mode rather than hear it.
But you want to hear that at this point.
I think that's a good step.
I think I'd feel a lot better if he had not filled the two assistant captain spots
with Stuart Sink and Justin Leonard.
Because that's more of the same kind of vibe, I think, that is what has infected this team.
So I think it's very important, honestly, in this.
We're not going to do a major Rider Cup segment.
I think the last two assistant captain spots are very important who he ends up filling it with.
And I am curious who you guys would pick.
You got to pretend to be an American fan here for a second.
T.C.
If you're Furek, who should fill out the last two spots?
Jordan Speath, if he doesn't make the team.
And Pete Carroll.
Wow, you go outside of golf.
Yeah.
Interesting.
Neil?
I was going to say
Speeth as well
and make it so that like
if you play well
I would just get him involved
as an assistant captain though
now
and have the conversation
and I guess make it public
like we want Jordan to make this team
but if he doesn't we want him to be along
with the team
I think that's great
and then I'm
I'm stuck
and you guys may disagree with this
but I'd try
to call Tiger
see if he wanted to get involved
I think having
and tiger around the team would be a good thing.
I know that's more of the same a little bit,
but I'm hoping maybe it's a healthier tiger.
I think he'd obviously bring a gravitas across the pond.
If not that, you could talk me into somebody like Brooks,
a guy that's been on a lot of these teams, a lot closer in age.
I just feel like, I like similar to the speed idea,
someone that is part of this generation,
or maybe on the upper end of it,
versus a
Zach Johnson or
you know I know Gary Woodland's still playing
but he feels like he's of
you know the generation
the older generation as well
I think
I feel like Brooks has a lot of perspective these days
I feel like he could be a positive influence
on a team like this
I hate that
you hate Brooks
I hate that idea
no you do
you don't like I hate that
I think Brooks is like the too cool for school
part of the problem. I used to think that too, but I honestly think if he brought him in as a captain,
I feel like he's not scared to talk. Like he's not scared to be like you're not, I actually think
the fact that he guys was listen to Brooks. That's my point. I think he, if he was bought in as a captain
and not the too cool for school player, I'm almost flipping it's on its head. And that's why I thought
he would, I expected this reaction. But the more I think about it, the more I'm like, man,
that could maybe that's what you need to do is like put the cool kid like make him a captain.
and he could, I don't know, put a bony finger in somebody's chest.
I think if you could do that, yes.
I think it, I think Gary Woodland and Kiz and Webb and Webb is a different category.
They are too much of the cool guys.
They're just, I don't really know what kind of value they're bringing here.
I've never heard them do an interview talking any sort of bit about philosophy
and what they would actually bring to a team room other than like the whole US mindset
of just making sure everybody's comfortable and everybody getting along great
and having a great time.
That seems to be what the U.S. thinks of team building.
I got two people I would fill out these two spots with.
One, Hunter Mayhan, go back and listen to episode 767 of the No Langelagup podcast,
November, 2023.
After that Ryder Cup, we talked for, I don't know how long of just like at least 45
minutes of it was, had me ready to run through a wall of like exactly what Team USA needs
in terms of leadership, somebody that can can rile up the give a shit meter to
rile up the, this is what it means to me.
like this is how important this is to me
so I need this to mean something to you
if you're going to be on this team and play a role
and I think they need a little bit of a bridge
player and I like the speed thought where you're going
but I think the assistant captain should be Max Homa
like the way he has talked about the Rider Cup
the way his experience went in 2023
and what he came back saying what that team needed to do
and what they did wrong and like what they need
I think they need there's going to need to be a player
in their actual peer group
that is willing to like kind of look
like an idiot in terms of how much they're willing to care about it, willing to give to it.
And I think Max can be that person.
Dude, I think that's, I was tweeting about that during President's Cup a few weeks ago.
Like, I think, yeah, like, the fact that this is who they brought for assistant captains when, like,
if you're making picks on who the heart and soul of the team is, you can still have those guys in the team room.
Right.
Right.
And maybe instead of Pete Carroll, maybe you go Nick Saban, right?
because Sabin's more of a golfer
and he's got JT's ear and all that stuff.
I'll redounce,
I like your picks better than mine,
Sully,
on the,
Max is pretty much the,
maybe the same concept there,
but doesn't have as much baggage.
How do you feel about the,
about Tiger?
Not good.
Not good.
You wouldn't,
you wouldn't want,
you don't want,
no,
I think you need somebody outside of this environment that,
he won one,
he played on one winning,
Rider Cup. These guys don't have the answers. And that's what makes me worried about
Furek. Like, unless he is willing to, that's, has me worried about Furek, but also has me like,
all right, he's not an idiot. Like he's not, we interviewed him after the Rider Cup last time.
He said, what arrogant asshole would stand up here and say, like, I wouldn't do anything
differently here? Like, I think he has the ability to look in. You know, Keegan,
Keegan be the answer to that. We'll get there. Nothing about Tiger screams that he understands these team
events. Absolutely nothing.
And I think that he would, even as an assistant captain, and he was an assistant captain on
several teams that were highly successful, but those teams were extremely talented, like the
2016 and 2017 teams where he was assistant captains on both of those, but they just had
a massive talent captain that they don't have anymore. And I don't think that's the step.
And that's putting aside like everything going on in his life and, and, you know,
DUIs and all that. Like, I, I don't think that.
I don't think that's going to be like your leader of men.
I think he overshadows the head captain at this point as well.
And it's more of a distraction than it would be a help.
That's my opinion.
Solly, what about if he doesn't make the team,
if he doesn't start making these things,
having Mav in there as like a bridge between your analytics guys and your players?
I love, yes, I love that.
I still want the playerish role.
to be somebody that I think like,
I feel very confident.
We'll not even been there,
but we'll bridge the communication gap to the players.
Like,
I don't think like Cantlay's looking to MAV
for advice on how to play one of these things,
but I like exactly what you're saying.
Or MAV between analytics,
between the analytics and the actual captain,
and then the captain can message it however he wants.
I like that idea.
He's looking for a Carl Rove genius boy.
Yeah, in the room.
Of course.
Just looking for some outside perspective.
man. It's a pretty insolent crew.
I has to be outside at this point.
For the listeners, I like, Sali and T.C's answers
a lot better than mine.
I should have prepared for this segment better.
Oh, yeah, run it back. Just roll
tiger out there. Come on. Why not?
You know, Brooks, get him out there. He's in alpha.
Come on. I stink at this.
This was
going around this past week
story about Keegan Bradley.
At
just
hopefully,
people I'm sure heard the story.
that was being told
was three different times
in the opening match
of the singles match.
There's a big drop situation.
I'm kind of condensing
a long story down into a short bit here,
but a complicated and long drop
that Justin Rose had to take
and Keegan Bradley on three separate occasions,
went up to the rules official
that was administering the drop
and accused him of slowing down the U.S.
momentum, cursed him out,
F-bombs, what the fuck are you doing?
We were going to win this thing.
You cost us this.
Came up to him on the next fairway,
did it, came up to on the next green as well,
and laid into the,
this rules official, which just got word prior to this podcast that we might have my witness account
of this?
Yes.
So I was, we were at the Ryder Cup, but this happened on the 14th hole, par three, I believe,
the first interaction, because I watched this drop happen.
And it was down a hill.
There's a kind of, it's over a big ravine at Bethpage Black.
It's before you cross over the road.
And then 15, 16, 17, 17, 18 are all on the other side of the road.
And I remember being there behind the green.
And it was taken.
it was taking forever to figure this out.
And, you know, the gallery was a little bit like,
what, what is going on down there?
And so they finally got it, got a square away.
But Keegan had the rules official.
And it reminded me the reason I, when I heard this story this week,
I was like, oh, my God, because I remember Kegan was in his stance like he was
with Miguel Anhelemenez at the match play.
Remember when he was getting into it with his catty?
Kagan kind of came up and had that like power stance.
He was kind of doing that to the rules officials.
Like, man, that's kind of weird down there.
I was, you know, 40 yards away.
So I didn't hear anything.
But I remember that specifically being like, damn, that looked kind of hostile.
And I didn't think much of it, you know, because they moved on.
But it was definitely, I mean, it was slowing down play.
But at the same time, it was a ruling and then a TIO ruling after that.
Yes.
It was a good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So they were, because, yeah, they had to get line of sight relief.
So it took, it definitely took forever.
But then Kegan was like, kept the rules official.
And they were just like, he was.
kind of in his grill afterwards.
I just remember seeing it.
Yeah.
Well, it's super cool, too, because the rules official was, you know, he's like, he's been
recently a, you know, a PGA of America, like a PGA professional a year.
And he's, he's, he's a head pro at a course that Kagan's won at before.
So he can, he's just about as big of a low life piece of shit as you can imagine.
I think.
The worst captain in Rider Cup history and all likely, at least modern Rider Cup history.
And I will just not let, I'm not going to let.
I'm not going to let anybody off the hook for this
that people wanted him to
not only be the captain and also play in it.
I think he would have been a better cap,
like the less time he had to captain, the better.
Sure, that might have been the case.
Yeah.
But it was completely, completely overwhelmed by the captaincy
and people wanted him to also play in it.
It was, I will never forgive Sethwa for going outside the box
on that one, man.
That was really, really, really tough.
And I think it's going to take a long time to put the toothpaste back in the tube on that one.
But just that people are always, why do you guys not like Keegan?
Like, do we've heard stories like this so often?
Dozens upon dozens of stories.
Like dozens of stories.
So like he is like, yes, like he should never be allowed near another Rider Cup ever again.
Ever.
He was an assistant for this president's cup.
Like there still don't have it figured out.
It's crazy.
he's such a loser
I'm glad some of the stuff's getting out there at least
on the LPGA front Lote
Championship will be held on the plantation course
at Koppelua March 18th
through 21st part of a two-week
Hawaii swing the prior
week will be at Nanea
for a new event that will be out there that's during
players week so we'll get
Koppelua back on our screens back in March
and more primetime LPGA time
was the first thing we said
when the PGA tour lost
was like what an opportunity for the
LPGA. I figured it would take like three or four years though.
They got there quick.
Props to them. Yeah.
And yeah, they schedule, it's a step in the right direction.
They've taken some stuff.
The full schedule is out for 27.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There's less flying.
There's still two Asian swings.
There's still a lot of work to be done.
The championship, that's like the big addition, other than the Kappalo event.
The championship is like the PIF sponsored event outside of London.
Still haven't named a venue for that one.
There's no Scottish Women's Open going down at this point.
The founders is back at Sharon Heights, which I was stoked to see.
International Crown at Lake Merced.
The Corning is a new one up in upstate New York, which that might be a little dicey up,
mid-May up there.
But overall, I think they have, what, $10 million,
increase in purses?
137 million to 147, yes.
So step in the right direction.
Yep.
This one was a lot less fun.
Tony Romo was disqualified
from a Corn Ferry Tour
Q School pre-qualifier
for signing for a lower score on
not one but two holes.
Michael Bamberg and Ryan French
reported on this.
A lot lengthier story than that.
He was going to miss anyways.
There was weather involved.
believe it ends up signing for a lower score on two of his final three holes.
It got called on it and kind of pushed back.
And yeah, the details don't make him look great.
I think there's been some smoke on this front.
Yeah, I think we're done with this.
I think it's time to move.
I don't not heard good stories of this guy being involved with anything with competitive
golf.
I think it's, I think it's time to move past any of this.
This is trying to give him the benefit of the doubt here.
this is a scarlet letter of you don't sign one hole maybe is a little bit of an accident like
two is that's the word that people don't like using you can't you can't do that that's
not going to not going to fool me again yeah so on very much not fun note cruise have arrived at
east potomac um did a lot of work this weekend it sounds like just cutting down trees and
they're moving in it is the it has begun it has begun over there so i think there were a lot of
trees to take down that were probably worth taking down and i think they took down a lot of trees
that weren't good taking for taking down like some really mature nice oaks and cherry trees and
stuff like that so yeah that's that sucks you know what also sucks is that like it's there's like
this empty, you know, spot in my town that, like, it's taking like nine months to get a permit
to put like bagel shop in. And it's like, no, but if you want to go mess with the muni,
it's like, nah, we'll just bring the chainsaws in and get started like a month later.
It's like, where's the red tape when you need it, man? You know what I mean?
Yeah. It's only there when you don't need it. I hate it. They make the rules, Joe.
Who had this one? The Neil's Boys in here.
Yeah.
This is, I just had to put this in there.
These are Neal's guys, links Dow.
They're selling Spey Bay, the,
Spey Bay Bay, the Scottish course that they purchased a few years ago,
ostensibly to focus on their domestic project outside of Kansas City,
which doesn't sound like it's going all that well.
But yeah, just high hopes there.
I know they brought in Clayton, DeVries and Pont to spruce that place up.
and then they just stopped spending money or ran out of money.
Solly, how's your NFT portfolio?
That's your, that's your real house.
Just, I've been doing a lot of research on old podcasts and things like that.
Just definitively state for the record, I do not and have never owned an NFT.
I just want that to state into the historical record.
That's not true.
Stayed into the historical record.
I still don't really know what an NFT is, I don't think.
It's a non-fungible token.
I mean, I know it stands for.
I just don't know what it is.
but my PJ as a car carry gold card member of the PJ tour I still have access to the 20 billion
NFTs that's sitting there but so I feel like the Hall of Fame should start doing NFTs I forgot
about the Hall of Fame we got to come back to that so there was some nominees uh that came out for
the Hall of Fame last week's episode and Harry Colt namely Harry Colt not being in the Hall of Fame
is a fucking disgrace will you own that will you put your hand up I will not I can't because I'm
not involved in that side of the house you guys
did note, I am on the
USGA's Hall of Fame. I don't think it's USGA.
I'm on the World Golf Hall of Fame
nominating committee for male competitors.
So I was part of the discussion
that nominated Jim Furek,
Adam Scott, Justin Rose, and Corey Paven.
I do not have a Hall of Fame vote.
I do not decide what happens from there.
You're the gatekeeper, though.
I was responsible for putting some names
in front of the committee. Part of the team
responsible for putting some names in front of the committee
to vote on who gets into the hall of
of fame. And I was aghast at the complete dismissal of the Hall of Fame candidacies of the four
people that were put up for nominations. We didn't dismiss them. We considered them. And then we said it's
not the Hall of Very Good. It's the Hall of Fame. It's the Hall of Great. And you know that
nobody's a bigger Team Rose fan than I am. Adam Scott's one of the biggest underachievers in the
history of golf. In my master's champion, former world number one players champion. He's won 14
PGA tour events.
EP World Tour events, nine top fives in majors, played in 100 straight majors, 12 all-time in
data golf points just behind Rose just ahead of Justin Johnson.
How far back do data golf points go?
1983, I believe.
Just checking that.
Neil, Neil, where do you stand?
I feel like, I mean, it's funny that Rose and Adam Scott are nominated together because
we've had this discussion of like, man, they have such similar careers.
and it's one of those things where the eye test and the data kind of point to that.
You know, it basically comes down to like, would you rather win a master's or a U.S. Open in a lot of ways.
But I don't feel like either of these guys' career is over.
And I think it's a little premature to put them in the Hall of Fame this early on.
Even if they have enough of a resume to go in as it stands now.
It doesn't feel like a complete resume.
It's like in other sports, you know, you retire.
If you come out of retirement, you got to wait another five years.
I think there should be a five-year lookback period.
I know it's harder in golf because they kind of continue to play on lifetime exemptions and things.
I understand that's different.
But Rose and Scott still feeling very competitive.
I think it's an incomplete resume.
So I think it's too early for those two.
Not to say that I don't think they could get into the Hall of Fame in the future.
I think both of them have a case because of their nationality.
I think that's a factor in the story here because a lot of this is like, what story are you telling?
I think Adam Scott being the best Australian golfer of his generation and basically since the 2000s.
And then Rose being kind of a great man, T.C.
We know that.
And the longevity of both.
I think the case is solid,
Salli.
I just think it's premature.
Furek I'm okay with.
I think Furek definitely should, like, deserves it.
But I do understand Randy and T.C.
And Dege last week.
The one major thing is tough.
Like that, that, you know,
that is a big group of people.
Freddie couples and Davis Love the third getting in.
I think totally like it lowers the bar for,
the other guys that that like for these other discussions that are being had and I know that there's
there's conversations being had about how many tickets can we sell to this thing and how can we get
some TV ratings when these guys you know I mean I I don't know I just have a problem with like
Adam Scott very good career right wildly impressive respect the hell out of it like I I
really like Adam Scott you know he's he's a joy to watch he's his longevity is unbelievable
He's playing great into his late 40s.
And, but man, I just like, the results just don't speak for, like,
you guys would be telling me the same thing.
If Tommy Fleetwood won a major next week,
I still don't think he's a fucking Hall of Famer.
Well, he also has 13 less PGA tour wins than Adam Scott.
I mean, like, I don't think, leave Tommy out of this.
Hold on.
I want to take two parts there.
One, Fred couple, leave the Fred.
I'm not talking about Fred couples.
Yeah, but those, but these are guys.
that are in the Hall of Fame that are
and Davis Love.
Cheapening the,
maybe Freddie.
Davis Love, though, has a pretty
strong resume and now this is for
competition. They both have a major and two
players and are both top 10 and career
data golf points as well. And
Data Golf points is just literally like
all of your finishes weighted
by fields you are playing against.
I just don't think there should be that
many guys in the Hall of Fame.
There's not that many though, is that.
So, so like, I don't think
those are the names you need to hone in on, like, being a problem.
Like, Colin Montgomery is a Hall of Famer.
He has zero majors.
Totally.
So if Collins won Jim Furik's a Hall of Famer, for sure.
If Collins won Justin Rose is one, Adam Scott is one, if you ask me.
Like, honestly, Sali, I'm willing to, before we even consider these guys, I cannot believe I'm
even saying this.
We need to get Zach Johnson in the Hall of Fame before we even consider these other guys
because he's got two majors.
He's got twice as many majors as these guys.
Did you put John Daly in and Hale-Kabrera in, too?
Probably.
I would say...
John Daly's a hell of a lot more famous.
Yeah, like they keep people out of the baseball hallophon for, you know, cheating scandals.
But, like, do they keep them out of them for, like, off-field stuff?
For sure.
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah, I think the Hall of Fame, it is, you know, playing around the world,
being an ambassador for the game of golf, having an influence on the game of golf in a variety of different ways.
Like, I think you don't have to agree with this part, but I think like being, when it comes to Furek as well, like, the amount of money he's raised in Northeast Florida around Furek and friends and his event and like what he's, what he's contributed to the game of golf is a factor in consideration here as well.
I have no issue with Furek.
So I just want that, like I'm with you on Furek.
Yeah, I think I'm good.
Rose and Scott, I think it's too soon.
I don't think the full story's been.
But when you say it like that, you know, the problem I have with that is like they still need to prove something.
And I think it's like if they didn't, you know, they're 40s.
how are they?
They're both 46 years old.
I think it's unfair to expect anything, you know, going forward from them and events.
And if that's the case, then it's like, oh, you didn't really do anything in your late 40s.
I don't think you're in.
That's where I'm like, dude, I think you could retire now and still have a good number.
Maybe it's just sentimental of me, but it's like when we do the documentary before the thing is over, you know, or the book.
I get that.
But that's kind of how golf works in a way.
And I think if neither of them, it'd be an interesting conversation.
if they both hadn't reached world number one.
Like that carries a shitload of weight for me.
Especially in this day and age.
Yeah.
And Adam Scott or Jim Fiorek did not.
He got to number two behind we all know who.
And like that's as good as world number one for the biggest outlier
any of us are ever going to see in our lives.
Rose reached world number one.
Yeah.
2018.
He was number,
he was world number one.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I think I might just be.
I think I might just be good on the Hall of Fame.
That's fair.
I think it's a fun discussion.
through some of the names that are in there.
Let me ask you this, D.C., is Dustin
Johnson a Hall of Famer?
I think the live guys are going to struggle on this.
Based on, I mean, based on everything you've laid out,
I think Dustin Johnson is absolutely a Hall of Famer.
I do too.
And I actually think of all the live guys,
I thought DJ handled it better than anybody.
I think he was pretty honest.
He's like, yeah, man, I'm kind of just want to take the money.
And I'm not going to, I don't think he really offended anybody or
the double birds on the way out.
If Johnny Rombo never plays another
hole of professional golf, is he a Hall of Famer?
I don't think so.
Not even 10 PJ Tour wins.
I think you're really...
You're really given the PGA Tour wins a big boost and not...
I don't know.
Maybe I've just...
I mean, especially in this day and age, you have to.
I get it with like the Fouto age of split between PGA Tour and European Tour wins
would be a lot more.
But DP World Tour wins are not comparable to PJ Tour wins.
wins in this era for rom that spans rom's career yeah i get i think what helps like like you
brought up call montgomery i think it helps that he's scottish i think the nationality play
like it plays a factor in the story of like oh this is one you know like for uh adam scott you know
he's australian that helps a lot i think the fact that dustin johnson's from the u.s probably
hurts his case comparatively but i think he should be in the hall of fame
it's generational it seems like it seems like the world number one thing is huge because like
Wooznam to me.
Like, I don't, I don't feel like
Wuznum should be in the Hall of Fame,
personally, but reached world number one,
won a major, right?
That seems to be like the,
and then double digit wins
on his primary tour
prior to 2000.
Yeah.
I think it is,
we view a lot of guys
that win multiple majors differently.
And I think this is like,
if you,
if you didn't win multiple majors
and you have a vast variety
of other ways,
you've been excellent,
at golf for a long sustained period of time
and a ton of evidence that
your major win was not a fluke.
I think that carries a lot of weight in this.
Like you, you know,
just because, again, I'm not putting on Hell Cabrera
above any of the guys we talked about
and he's got two majors.
So, it is interesting discussion.
I thought it, I will.
And it helps that Adam Scott is like the best swing of all time.
And Justin Rose has such great rider cup.
100.
I think that totally factors in.
I think those, they both have some
in a gold medal.
you. I just, yeah, my only thing is that it's just a little like, oh, they're still, I mean,
they're still like winning, you know, like making the FedEx Cup and, you know, playing Adam's
got still on the President's Cup team, you know? I just think it's a little early, that's all.
I mean, some of that's just how bad the President's Cup team is. Of course. But same, same story for
Rose. Solly, you get, you get Harry Colden for me. Okay. I'll see what I could do. We can talk about
any and all of these guys. Okay. It's nice to see that these are the deliverables for that
PJ Tour Grill card.
For sure.
Sit on the Hall of Fame committee.
A SIM card.
It's not PJA tour related, actually.
But I nominated, I nominated Pavin as well.
I don't think Pavin's a Hall of Famer, but we got to nominate four.
But that was my, that was my card.
I'm like the baseball Hall of Fame voters.
I'll show you exactly how I voted.
Like, is there just like a limitation?
Like, is there like a, like, like Neil was saying, is there a statute of limitations?
Or is it like, you could just nominate fucking anybody you want.
Like, like, I could nominate.
eliminate Michael Brennan.
No, there was a group of names we could pull from that we all had to vote.
And it was, it got pretty far down there.
I won't say all the names that were on it.
But it was someone there with, you know, five wins.
We're like, okay, I think we're not.
I have to think daily, I know all the off course stuff.
And from our 94 and 95 season reviews, I know, you know, he was could be a real
asshole.
It hit it real hard.
Man, that's a tough one, though.
Because a lot of those are like personal struggles, which I think is, you know, Cabrera is a little,
but I know there's some probably domestic abuse stuff with Daly 2 in there.
I'm just quitting on a lot of rounds of golf.
Yeah.
I don't think John Taylor is going to be in the moment.
I bet if I looked at the body of work, I'd be like, nah, let's maybe not.
Neil, how do you feel like him work for it?
George H.W. Bush is a hall of famer.
For golf?
Yeah.
I mean, he's got some, some, now watch this drive was a whole.
No, no, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, oh, sorry, God, all right.
I, yeah, I don't know, it's before my time a little bit, T.C.
I'm not, I'm not really sure.
I just, I just, I just, I just, like, because I know that's from the original.
Yeah, I think, I think it was maybe, the, some of the, some of the tax cuts that he did, that, that, uh, helped out the PJ Tort Pension program.
too.
Some of the money laundering.
I mean,
it's such a good partner to,
over to the first tea as well.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean,
yeah,
like,
that's my thing.
It's just like the,
God,
like the,
the golf Hall of Fame
just seems like inherently unsiriously to me.
Like,
the fact that they put it in that,
in that dumbass development down in the St.
Augustine for 30 years,
all that.
It just,
I just struggle to take it seriously.
We're working on that,
T.C.
they're working on. They're getting some younger. I'm not young anymore, but you know, getting some
different voices in the room. So we're working on that. But on that note, on tax breaks and everything.
I do want to give a shout that. We did a podcast with Dean Beam in this past week, came out on Tuesday.
I thought it was a career highlight for me. I said that in the interview, but I could have probably
got another four hours with him. But he's 88 years old, still absolutely with it.
tells an absolutely unbelievable story
about Jack Nicholas trying to get him booted from the job
and how he outmaneuvered him
and there's just a lot of great stuff in that podcast.
So if you haven't listened, I would appreciate if you do
because it was a Hall of Famer.
Oh my God.
He is the fucking game, pal.
And I get her.
I will again give a shout out.
I have it back here.
Yeah, here it is.
Adam Shupak's book,
Dean Beeman Golf's Driving Force,
is it's fucking electric.
Like I have read it twice now
and I still read it the second time
I'd forgotten how big of an impact
Dean Beeman had on the world of golf
and how he's
like everything could have changed with
a couple breaks here and there
and TPC Sawgrass not existing
if he wasn't just a complete bulldog
like he's just a it's an incredible story
that I feel like our generation doesn't have full appreciation for.
Maybe I need to get in his ear
about finishing the job
over there at TBC Sawgrass.
about the intercoastal.
The inner coastal, the outer canal is connected to the intercoastal,
which we learned in the interview as well.
So I don't think it would be that hard about getting the pond in there.
But annual technology, man, his is...
He could do like a little tunnel.
Like you get at Disney or like a little ride.
They could sell tickets to it.
I mean, it could be fun.
I know.
He had a great perspective on what he wished he'd got done with technology
during his time with the tour and everything.
So check that out.
Yeah, pretty opposite to what Tim Finchum's.
stance on all that was. Exactly.
Exactly. Episode two
of Taurus sauce will be out on this Wednesday
8 p.m. Eastern Time. If you missed episode
one, that's on the no laying up
YouTube channel. If you're unfamiliar with what Taurus
is, that's our travel series. This is our
10th version of it. We went from
the Western Islands of Scotland up to the
Highlands of Scotland. It'll be a
four-part series. It'll come out
every Wednesday over the next several weeks.
It is film length every
single episode. So it's all the content you
would have gotten in the eight episode
seasons just kind of distilled down into four how we broke it out this go around.
But our guy KJ's been working very hard on the editing front.
And I think you guys, episode one was a smash hit and we're very proud of it.
And episode two is going to be great as well.
So shout to our friends at Roebuck that helped bring us that one.
You can check out the Taurus sauce collection in the pro shop as well.
Store.nolingup.com.
Got some great head covers, scorecard holders, posters, polos, everything in honor of this season
and celebrating 10 seasons of Taurus sauce.
I think that's going to do it for us.
Up next, our little chat we had with Jackson Coivin,
reacting to a lot of President's Cup stuff.
He just announced he's joining TGL as well.
Caught up with him a little bit this week,
and that's going to play us out here.
So gentlemen, thanks for joining me here tonight,
and we'll see you back.
I have a live kind of centric episode coming out on the early part of this week as well,
and we'll see you guys Wednesday, 8 p.m. Eastern for our premier tour sauce.
Cheers.
All right.
After you won, even before you won the 3M,
A lot of us were saying we need Jackson Coyvin on the President's Cup team.
We want to see this happen.
It became pretty obvious once you won the 3M.
But when did the President's Cup get on your radar?
And what was communication like amongst the captains before that, after that?
And how did that process go for you?
Yeah, I mean, Presence Cup, like, after I won, you know, seeing on Instagram,
everyone's like, oh, my gosh, you should be on the team, blah, blah, blah.
And it's like, you know, there's a little bit of hype for sure.
but I still felt like I had a lot to prove.
And then when I didn't make the BMW championship,
I was like, okay, I probably won't make it.
Like, it's still in the back of my mind.
But, like, I played with Kagan and Detroit, got his number.
Just was like, hey, you won't play golf, whatever.
And he's just kept saying, like, how's the game feeling?
You're staying sharp, like after Memphis.
And I was like, oh, it's a little weird.
No.
No, I appreciate him looking out for me.
And then I got a text from Brandt.
And I was like, oh, my gosh.
We made the team.
So it was pretty cool feeling.
What's it?
So once that happens, what's, what's the communication like?
Are they, somebody in your ear telling you what to expect to play, who you might be playing with, who you should get to know?
Kind of what happens once you get that phone call up until the actual week of and practice starting?
It's pretty natural, honestly.
We had a, we had a practice session up at Medina about two weeks before the President's Cup.
And it kind of just paired us up.
and I had known JT for a while now.
And then I knew Russ.
I figured I'd probably be playing with one of them two unless they thought my game was suited better for someone else.
And kind of naturally just worked that me and JT, you know, enjoyed playing together and known each other and similar games.
And from that on, we just kind of stuck with with that and kind of worked out from there.
Does it, do they communicate anything with you statistically of like, hey, here's why we would consider you with this format.
here's why we think you might be a good.
I'm curious if there's any kind of give and take in that relationship of who you might
end up playing with or if it's mostly off vibes.
I'm sure there's a lot of stats that went on behind.
We had great stat guys on our team.
And then some of the captains, you know, got into that.
But I personally, I didn't ask about it.
I didn't want to know.
I just want to be out there and play some golf.
So my trust in the captains to make the right decisions wherever they thought was
necessary to put me in and I just went to work. Take me back to your relationship with JT and you said
you knew him and Russ kind of coming in and kind of how did he it look like from from our perspective
you know he took it upon himself to kind of shepherd you around and you know from from practice
rounds on hey maybe even hazy a little bit it seemed like there was a little bit of some minor hazing
going on in the early rounds but how did having someone like him alongside you somebody with a lot
of experience in team events kind of help ease you into your first one at this level. Yeah I mean
I got to know JT about two, three years ago.
We have the same agent and just kind of feel like I can talk to him about anything.
And he was extremely helpful all week.
Obviously, he's a veteran in these team things.
He's a big name and has played very well in the past in these.
And it's been, it was so much fun being able to play alongside of him,
seeing him hype up the crowds and give me advice and just kind of talk through shots.
And it was great.
What's some of the advice?
Come on, you got to give us some kind of example in here.
Just talking about, like, you know, what the first T is going to feel like
and how important momentum is and all that, that little stuff that matters so much in matchplay.
Well, compare this.
You played the Walker Cup, of course, most recently at Cypress Point, and, you know, a year later,
you're playing in the President's Cup.
Different environments, different schedules, different format, different scene.
It's all very different, but how different did it feel to you?
obviously that's top level competition at both amateur and professional golf but how different
did the whole setting and everything feel to you yeah i mean obviously at the presence cup the build
out's going to be a lot bigger and it's going to be a lot more fans and but at the end of the day
in my mind anytime i'm playing for team usa it's it's a great feeling and i'm honored and uh the walker
cub being at cypress point was was unbelievable and some of my best friends were on that team and
But again, like the Presence Cup is still the President's Cup,
and there's no knock on the Walker Cup for that.
But the President's Cup was just an unbelievable feeling
and getting to know some of the best players in the world a little closer
and being able to come back on a team scale was a great feeling.
Compare the feeling you had to the first T on Thursday,
starting the competition versus you on the 18th T in singles,
where we saw just some vicious club twirls and pimstepping, if I may say.
It seemed like there was a, you know, there was some transition time for that beginning
to the very end of the last images we saw.
Yeah, I mean, to be honest, I was very nervous on the first tee on Thursday.
Just thankful I found the face and hit in the fairway, but I really wasn't that nervous
coming down 18 on Sunday.
I knew it was a pivotal point in the entire tournament.
and I had a pretty nice lead.
And if I could put it in the fairway,
I'd have a good chance to at least tie the hole and maybe win the hole.
And he hit in the fairway before me.
And I was just like, if I'm going to hit this in the fairway,
I want to be walking ahead of them and I want to show confidence.
So when that ball took off, I knew it was pretty good.
I just walked after it.
And then I mean, 18, come on.
The shot into 18.
I mean, the approach shot, that one was,
that had a little extra, extra Pibchews.
on it. Yeah, for sure. I mean, he had a nice shot in there, and I knew he'd been playing well
all day, and there was a high chance he was going to make that putt. And again, if there's,
you know, in match play, if there's anything I can do to take away someone's momentum,
I'm going to try to do that. And I felt like that was just necessary there is to get the
crowd fired up and show them that I'm not scared of the challenge.
You mentioned being nervous on that opening T Thursday. You've been in massive, massive spots,
and major championships now, Walker Cup,
the Cup, what's your, what's your, what's your,
have you ever gotten like good advice
on what to do when you are nervous?
Or do you have a go-to checklist when you're especially feeling nerves
over a particular shot and how you,
how you go about handling that?
Yeah, I just try to embrace it.
It's a good thing in my mind if I'm nervous,
but it's just that the breathing checklist is so huge,
slowing your body down, selling your mind down,
just going through the process that you go through
thousands and thousands.
of times, just making it the same down to the second.
It's just go through the process, do all you can do before you hit the shot and just trust
all the work you put in.
Do you have a specific breathing checklist?
What is it?
No, I just like just take a really deep breath in, really deep breath out, and then just
keep doing that until I can start to calm myself down and feel ready to, ready to pull
the trigger.
Who would you say is kind of like the lifeblood of the U.S. team?
You know, who's bringing the energy?
Who's bringing, who's like the player captain leader of the U.S. team based on your experience at the President's Cup?
Hard not to say, J.T., just because of the veteran, obviously when you have Scotty Schaeffler or world number one on your team, it's, everyone's kind of looking at him.
But I felt like everyone was pretty equally involved, and no one felt, you know, higher than the other.
and it was just a team event.
We're all playing for the United States of America,
and we're all going to try as hard as we can to go in.
So if I was to say it took, obviously, a pretty big comeback on home soil
against the team you guys were heavily favored over for you guys to win the President's Cup.
And a lot of people, myself included, would surmise that a similar performance,
team performance in Ireland would potentially, or almost certainly,
yield a dramatically different result.
So what's your reaction to that?
And if I was to say that I think the U.S. needs to take a step up if they want to win a road rider
cup in the next go-round. If you were to be on that team, what do you think the steps are to
the U.S. team playing better golf in the next team competition?
Honestly, I think it's just practicing it more. I think in singles, we play really, really well.
Best ball, we're fine, and then alternate shot. Obviously, statistically, we haven't been that
great. And I think getting comfortable in that format,
where, you know, the Europeans have played that since they've been younger
and playing those team events and stuff, whereas in the U.S., it's a little different.
I think that, you know, practicing that, getting more comfortable
and just having a nice, solid, sturdy plan going into the Ryder Cup
and not going away from that too much would be my suggestion.
You didn't play foursomes at this recent President's Cup,
but would that be a format you would be?
interested in playing in. You do have experience in it playing in in the Walker Cup of course,
but what's what's your reaction in playing that format and how different does that feel?
Yeah, I mean, it's it's very easy to gain momentum and very easy to lose momentum.
It's a weird format. I definitely enjoy playing it. I played two matches with Tommy
Morrison at Cypress Point and he's been he's been killing it. But we play very similar golf.
And I think that's that's that's part of it part of the key to alternate shot is,
is playing with guys who are similar to you.
Because I don't know, me personally,
if I get put with the guy who hits at 360
and also in a shot, it might just put me in some spots
I'm not used to.
Whereas if I'm playing with someone who plays a game
in a similar way, it's easier to get into a rhythm
and a flow and to gain that momentum.
What are you, you know, big change, of course,
for you turning professional and one of the things
that's coming with this on the subject of team golf
was TGL on your radar?
What is the interest, you know, in joining the TGL as quickly as you are, as young as you are,
kind of in your first full professional season you're going to have here?
Is it the interest in team golf kind of take me to that decision in your interest there?
Yeah, I mean, I've always thought TGL was interesting and cool,
and then when the opportunity spikes to play on Motor City and play with Brooks is a guy who I've definitely looked up to when I was younger.
I mean, it was watching him in majors back in, what was it, like, 2018, you know, the stretch where he was, he was absolutely killing it.
It was pretty cool.
And, you know, be able to put yourself alongside a guy like that who has had so many good finishes.
It's just a cool experience.
And, you know, being from Palm Beach, it's easy travel to there.
And just another opportunity to show the world.
What was your reaction to the SoFi Center?
seeing that in person for the first time.
It was so cool.
I saw it for the first time maybe a month ago.
I did not realize how big it is.
But, you know, it's a technological wonder,
how they got it all set up like that
with the massive screens and all the simulators,
the moving green,
and it's definitely an arena.
And I'm excited to playing it.
What does the path look like for you?
for next year. I'm kind of curious what your assessment is of your, you know, your short 2026
professional season. Obviously, you already bagged a victory. But what you need to keep doing and what
you need to think you do need to do better in 2027 to take a leap that I think a lot of people are
expecting you to take. Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, it's just consistency. Obviously,
getting the win at 3M was great. Wasn't too thrilled with the way I played after that.
and then playing well at Asheville and Presence Cup was also a lot of fun.
And then it's just being more consistent in my day-to-day routine,
making my floor a little higher because I know my ceiling is good enough to win out there.
And then just, yeah, just routine and still figuring out what's the best for me
and my body and my mindset on the road.
Do you feel much, you don't seem to at least from where I'm sitting in terms of
what expectations are for you coming out, obviously, with your amateur pedigree and kind of the
fast run you've been on. Do you feel any of that outside pressure at all in any way?
I do feel it sometimes. It's different, especially when you just get comparisons to people who have
done so much. And I just, in my mind, I still've got a lot to prove. I've been a pro for three months.
and I'm hoping to be a pro for a lot longer than that
and to gain some more accolades.
So just still figuring it all out, obviously.
Very grateful to have won the 3M,
but hopefully there's a lot more to come.
There was something I remember interviewing JT when he was a rookie,
which, yeah, I don't want to think about how old you were back then.
But I remember, you know, he had just finished like third or something in the players
and made like half a million bucks.
And I just was like, man, is that crazy to you?
like you just won half a million dollars he was like gave an answer that was like eh i think i'm
going to make a lot of money like i'm not really worried about that what you know at 21 years old
you've been uh you know you've already got money coming in the door what what's what's you know
you're in a different you're in a different environment with nil and whatnot uh in college but what uh
has the money that's that's hit already is that been life changing in any way no for sure i mean
making money is it's really cool but at the end of the day i feel like all the greatest
golfers in the world. They don't play for money. They play for to be to be in the history books. And that's
why I'm playing. If I can, you know, keep playing for trophies, I think the money will take care of itself
and something I won't need to worry about too much, hopefully. What would dictate a successful
2027 for you? Do you have like specific goals? But if you said, hey, if I, if blank happens next year,
I probably had a really good year. What would you say to that? Yeah, I don't really like to set
like physical goals.
I just, you know, I set day-to-day goals and I think, you know, process and work ethic will
aspire to what I want to get to.
And, you know, obviously getting another win would be great.
Contending in a major would be great.
There's all these things that would be a lot of fun and exciting and what I want to do,
but that's not going to happen if I don't, you know, set goals for tomorrow what I'm going to
practice on to get better for when that time comes. Good answer. Good answer. You know, you've been out
on tour. You've played a fair amount of tour events and pro events as an amateur, but how is life
different in any way as a professional? I mean, I know a lot of guys talk about, you know,
it's, it's, you know, you go from team college golf and the team camaraderie of that to a little
bit lonelier scene out on the pro tour. Have you experienced any of that and kind of anything
surprised you about the few week to weeks that you've had of pro life, but week to week pro life?
Yeah, I mean, playing in pro events as an amateur is so much fun.
But at the end of the day, you know, you go miss the cut, play well, whatever.
You're still going back to college.
You're still going to see your boys and you're still going to go play the next college event.
Whereas, you know, pro life is, you know, it matters a lot more, obviously.
And, you know, no matter what, you're still going across the country to the next event next week.
but me and Ben James are very close.
We've been playing Tuesday practice rounds pretty much every day.
And we've been spending a lot of time together,
and he's been playing unbelievable as well.
And just creating a little group of guys around our age
that we can hang out with on the road so we're not as lonely.
I'm glad you brought up Ben James,
because if I had to put a little bit of helium behind somebody,
if I had to just, you know, say somebody that could rise
by the end of next year,
potentially be on the Rider Cup team,
next year. And I know that's a lofty, lofty, you know, proclamation at this point.
But talk me about his game, because he just seems like a ball hitter and a golfer, man.
And he gets really, really, really hot. You play with him in a Walker Cup as well.
And it just seems like he is primed to take a leap into next year.
Yeah, I mean, we duped it out in college for sure. He's such a good dude.
He lives about five, seven minutes away from me down here in Palm Beach.
and, you know, he's just knocking on the door.
He's been, I think he's top five, his last three events,
guys doesn't miss a lot of golf shots.
And when his partner gets going, he's just really hard to beat.
And I would have a feeling he would win this,
he's going to win this fall.
He's very, very close.
And if not then, then I would be shocked if he doesn't win here soon.
What, talk to me about deciding on Palm Beach,
you know, obviously a big, big spot for a lot of golfers,
Was that always the place you wanted to move?
When did you move there and kind of what your experience been like down there?
It's been great.
I moved right before the U.S. Open.
So I've been down here since, was that the middle of June.
And obviously I haven't spent a ton of time here.
But I'm just getting acquainted with the area.
There's so much good golf here, good golf courses, a lot of good players.
You can always find a game if you need one.
And, you know, it's just such a good area for weather, especially come this winter.
or you don't want to be stuck in the cold.
So I'm convinced this is the best place to be in the winter.
Who are the people you end up playing the most games with down there?
I know you said I haven't spent a lot of time yet there,
but who do you plan to play with much as fall?
I have a little group of guys that are on the younger end
or my age that like Ben James and Luke Clanton,
we kind of play some games.
And then, you know, if some of the older guys like Cantlay or JT
or, you know, even Keegan or Gary or.
anyone like that or, you know, looking for a fourth.
I think I could fill in for them.
What's a golf course you're looking forward to in particular for a tour event next year that you,
that you haven't played on that you think, like, all right, this should be right up my alley.
I'm really looking forward to this tournament, not necessarily meaning the biggest name,
obviously the masters you're looking forward to in the players.
What's, is there an event or a golf course that sticks out to you?
Yeah, I mean, I was going to say a player, so I played the junior players there a couple times,
and I love sawgrass, but maybe Riviera.
I mean, if I can get in, that would be great.
But I've heard such good things,
and I feel like that'd be a fun one to play.
What's your lead-up plan to your first masters?
What's your making some trips up there,
kind of take us into how you want to get as prepared
as possible for your first masters?
Yeah, I mean, I've played there one time in my life,
So getting acquainted with it would be great.
I know a couple guys who are members,
so hopefully they'll be kind enough to take me up or let me play there.
So I'm not going to overdo it,
but hopefully get one or two trips up before the tournament comes.
Awesome.
You're going to play much at all this fall?
Do you have anything on your schedule for this fall?
I'll play two or three more times.
So still just trying to crack that top 60
and just be ready and prepared for next season.
Awesome.
Appreciate you spending some time with us.
Best of luck with your first fall down there in Palm Beach.
And yeah, I appreciate your time.
Thank you.
