Be the right club. Be the right club today.
Johnny, that's better than most.
How about him? That is better than most.
Better than most!
Expect anything different.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the No Laying Up live show,
May 16, Thursday at the PGA Championship. Gentlemen, the horses are out and running at Valhalla.
Got Neil here in the catbird seat,
joined by Sally down at Jack's Beach.
Sally, what's going on?
Excited to talk some more Valhalla with you guys.
But let me Valhalla at you, Randy.
Hala, hala, hala, hala, hala.
I just heard the smoke alarm going on upstairs. I hope everything is okay here
It sounds like it has stopped. So we are all good. Good evening gentlemen, Randy
Good to see you TC calling it from Jack's Beach as well looking like bee rabbit. How we doing TC? I'm trying to turn it
You know channel my inner corn. Holy Oh
Taylor Gooch look. I love that.
I love it.
Gentlemen, the horses are out.
You know what else is out?
The sun was out today and you know what that means.
That means the high noons are out and the moment everyone has been waiting for is finally
here.
The high noon pool pack is back.
So grab a case, text the group and get your
friends to nearest pool, beach, whatever you want. Get out in the sun. It's only here for the summer.
So now's the time to enjoy lime, peach and two limited edition flavors, guava and kiwi. Gentlemen,
what are we drinking tonight? I got plum. I can feel it in my plums that Xander's not going to
win this tournament. So I'm trying to channel that.
Sorry, I got a bunch of guava in my fridge.
I'm going to have my kids deliver it.
I love it.
I've got a little surprise for you actually for what I've got, Neil, but you got to get
through this next part.
Well, as always, pullback is made with real vodka and real juice, has 100 calories, is
gluten free and has no added sugar.
And of course,
during big weeks, we have to call out the high noon big cans now available in vodka,
seltzer, peach and pineapple and the all new tequila seltzer lime. Yes, that Big cans. Big cans. Big cans. Big cans.
Big cans.
Big cans.
Big cans.
Big cans.
Big cans.
Big cans.
Big cans.
Big cans.
Big cans.
Big cans.
Thank you very much for that.
Cody, as always, working the ones and twos behind the scenes.
Those big cans are reclosable, people, so keep that in mind.

High noon, sun's up. these major weeks are also full of fun
So we'll be highlighting our moment of joy later in the show
So stick around for that that's brought to you by our partner who knows a little something about joy
What joy the official shoe glove and rainwear partner of no laying up?
I really like the mint julep Todd Snyder PC did I pronounce that correctly Snyder not Schneider?
Thank you. Snyder. All right, gentlemen, quick, quick rundown. We've got Xander setting a course record,
62 today. Let me holla at you on that one. We got Tony Finau and Sahith Figaal at six under,
Xander's at nine under. Rory, Kalamorkawa, Thomas D tree, young Tom Kim, big shot, Bob, and Tom Hoagie at five
under and a traffic jam at four under that includes Scotty and Brooks who are certainly loitering.
I'm going to send it around the horn. Sally, I want to start with you.
Kind of a, what did we learn today? Who's on that tub of chicken? Sorry. You, baby.
That I thought so. That looks like me. You throw it back up, Sarge.
Maybe that I thought so that looks like me throw it back up Sarge
That's you What is wrong with my face for those listening on the podcast? Sorry Sarge is deep in his graphics game though. We got a beautiful
Layout of our run a show today and I'm on a NL you bucket of fried chicken. I love it
I love Randy. It's we got Colonel Randy in the house
bucket of fried chicken. I love it. I love it. Colonel Randy. We got Colonel Randy in the house.
Let's go to you first. What did we learn today? Just trying out a new segment here.
Something, a surprise or maybe something that kind of reinforced a theory or feeling you had before
the tournament. Business is open at the PGA championship. It's wide open. All right. There's
not a lot of major championships that are like this. It is open doors for some guys that have
trouble in some of these bigger events to get their major. It is an open door
for Xander. It's an open door for big tone. It's an open door for Rory even who
hasn't been able to withstand, you know, kind of the 72 hole grind it out pressure
of the difficult setups of major championships. That's not what this is.
It's not what it's gonna be.
It's a go style and this is a chance for someone
to come up and steal one and potentially change
the narrative of their career.
Because I don't know how well we'll remember that
five years from now.
But a lot of people could win this one
and you can't say that about a lot of major championships.
Well, we got a question from Brendan Bolander.
He said, how big does Xander's lead need to be on Saturday night for you to consider him
a favorite?
Three shots?
Three.
That's it.
Well, that might depend on who's chasing him.
Yeah.
Fair enough.
I would say, I mean, what I learned today is Xander's kind of starting to win me over.
I know that sounds funny.
Let's see it on Sunday.
But the consistency is admirable
I really really enjoy his golf swing his putting stroke kind of gives me the heebie-jeebies
But he keeps putting himself in this position at some point. I feel like he's gonna gonna knock one down
I know it's a I'll believe it when I see it
But you know, it's kind of a you got to hand it to him
He's played his ass off this year.
Maybe this is like Sally said,
maybe this is the course where he can break through
because it isn't set up difficult.
Can we stop calling him Xander?
I thought we had agreed upon Alexander.
Alexander, Weird Al, TC.
Right, may I call him for me on that?
He's shooting 62, it's hard.
It's hard to depress that one.
Blocky shot 63 there, like that's whose record he broke.
Thank you.
Randy, let's go to you next. What'd you learn today?
Perfect timing. That I hate easy major setups.
For all the reasons Solly listed, and they're all true.
A lot of random guys could jump up and win a major this week.
I just find the style of play, I know it can border
on a bit, but I'm 100% earnest, I'm 100% genuine. I like when par is a really good score. I think
there are a lot of pretenders and quite frankly, little boys on the leaderboard. We have 65 guys
as of right now under par. It's just too many for a major championship. These are supposed
to be the biggest and supposedly the most difficult tests all
year and I just don't think we got that today and what's
really sad with the rain and everything like I don't think
we're going to get it at any time this week. So, I'm coming
to peace with what it is this weekend but I don't like it
Neil. Fair enough. TCc What have you learned?
Yeah, I wish I didn't feel this way. I felt like we just watched a
signature event or a playoff event like the northern it was
the Northern Trust at you know, like and Big Tone.
I know,
or are playing for 500, 500 or 600 FedEx Cup points and, you know, some, some modern ass trophy. Like
it's the setup, the, I mean, Sally, you got some stuff to show later on here of just like, there's
no downside risk on some of these holes. It's, it's an execution test. There's, there's just not a lot
of dynamism out there. The crowds are good. I'm not going to go off on some rant about, you know, architecture or whatever, but I
think at some point if we only get these guys together four
times a year, we might as well make the most of it and this
doesn't quite feel like we're making the most of it. I'm gonna
push back. So you go ahead. Sorry. I just to say I don't
we don't need to rant on this all night and I just want to
just to efficiently make the point as possible is there's
not a muscle to flex here for Valhalla,
right? Like there's not a, they don't have another level they
can take it to. They can, you know, set the pins up maybe a
little bit harder. But like, it's kind of, you know, there's
no firmness maxed out. There's just not another side of it that
can, you know, that they can go to. There's just, there's not
even like a weight to the conditions ramp up. There's not
going to be that leaderboard gravity that comes into this.
Like it's just what the course gives you.
Just has an abs, when you have an absence of variety,
that's what you're gonna get.
And I got a little, the most peeved I got
was kind of on those last couple of holes,
like watching Scotty and watching Rom.
Scotty on 16 and 17 and Scott and Rom shot on 16
that he absolutely hit him through his club.
It just left like a really easy up and down and a par and I have,
you know, kind of some images. If Sarge has him back there of the 16th hole of like, if you look at the the spray
charts of guys like left of 16 and short of 17, it leads to a bunch of pars like a ton of pars like it's just not like
all the blue dots you see on the screen if you're watching live are pars. That's a lot from missing a green.
That punishment's just not very severe.
This is the 16th hole.
The 17th hole looks pretty similar.
If you miss short of that, it's all relatively easy pars.
And I just went for two quick examples,
like really quick examples.
Just pulled up, because these are holes 16 and 17,
I pulled up 16 and 17 from Oak Hill last year.
And there's a lot more interesting contouring
around these greens.
You'll see here on the 16th hole, nothing stopped in that short grass area because there's slopes that run away. And if you if you miss that green, like look at all those black dots, you see long left of 16 and long of 16 and short, everybody's making a lot of bogeys when you miss these greens. Same with 17 balls are running off into spots you don't want to be. That just puts way more emphasis on your ball striking, it's going to identify a champion better, right? So I thought Scottie got away with a bunch of murder down the stretch, honestly, I did not think he deserved to be that just puts way more emphasis on your ball striking. It's gonna identify a champion better, right?
So I thought Scottie got away with a bunch of murder down the stretch
Honestly, I did not think he deserved to be at four under par.
Orcala did too.
Rom threw his club in the middle of a stretch that he went four under par through six holes like
Again, we're gonna crown a champion. There's gonna be somebody who you know, everybody's gonna play under the same conditions
But you can get away with more stuff. This is more of a test of how much can you, in true horse racing style,
how much can you put the blinders on and go?
Not my favorite style.
If you don't care about that,
I'm not gonna tell you you're wrong.
You know, there's some stuff that like,
I think you're getting ready to say about Valhalla
and the golf course and the potential this weekend,
Neil, that I can buy into that part,
but I like seeing the best player get identified
and I do not think this kind of setup
does that to Randy's point as well.
Yeah, Sully, I just think the birdies feel a little cheap without some downside.
Like you said on, on stackers, 17 there, I think, like, I apologize for everything
I've ever said about Quail Hollow.
It just plays makes Quail Hollow look, look absolutely like just a
superstar, a supermodel.
So, uh, I don't know.
And by the way, if the PGA plays it down or doesn't play it down tomorrow,
then this is at most half a major.
And then TC is not showing up anymore. He's not showing up for ESPA. He's not showing up
for our live shows. He's going to boycott. Uh, I don't disagree with anything you guys said,
but I did feel late in the day, it got a little sleepy, but early on, it feels like a lot of
energy and like there's a, there's a lot of good names at the top of the leaderboard.
Randy, you said there's a chance for some rando to come in and steal it.
I'm not seeing a ton of randos like on the board above five under right now, you know, like four under like, yeah, there's a lot of guys
under par, but it feels like the, the heavy hitters are going to separate is, is, is that unfair?
The heavy hitters are going to separate is is is that unfair?
Well, I think there are good players all across the the front pages of the leaderboard but again when we're talking about guys like
Xander and Tony right one one in tied for second guys that have not been able to get it done
Elsewhere, I think they are two of the top three guys in this field with the
most major top tens without a victory. I just, I don't know as much as like, I like a guy
like big shop, Bob Mcintyre. Should he be tied for fourth at a major? I, you know, it's
just tread carefully. I don't know. TC. God, we I said It's a great long airplayers.
We have some very good players and listen, we could have an excellent leaderboard come Sunday.
Like I'm not I'm not ruling that out. I just I think
Solly honestly, I've never agreed with you more and I think that's a big step in our relationship. Like I just I totally agree with you in that
in our relationship. Like I just, I totally agree with you in that the birdies, it feels like you just get as many as you can, but there's like no place on this course where guys look like they're
getting stuck with their hand in the cookie jar and without much downside risk, it just cheapens
everything. I thought that was so well put. And so nothing against guys who played well. I just, you know, if this is a firm, fast,
like really difficult setup,
the scores aren't going to be this low.
And half of these guys at, you know,
three under a better,
aren't going to be anywhere near the front pages
of the leaderboard, in my opinion.
Randy, real quick,
Bob McIntyre finished T6 at the 2019 Open Championship.
He finished T8 at the 2019 Open Championship. He finished T8 at the 2021
Open Championship. You got a T12 and a T23 in his two Masters appearances. Watch yourself.
Okay. Watch yourself. Take big shot Bob's name out your mouth, Randy. I mean, homeless hubs. Should
we go with homeless hubs? Our guy, Ben Coles. I mean, come on. Guy, Noran is up there and four
under unbelievable. You guys are going on the leaderboard. It's too
early to go. All right. Well, I will say this, Randy, for me, from an entertainment standpoint,
one thing I do love, like I agree guys like Big Tone and Xander haven't been able to get it done
in these big events. Northern Trust will set that aside. Solly, thank you. But I love having them
involved for the sheer potential of a meltdown or the drama of them
not getting it done again.
So like from a, like I'm, I'm very much looking forward to the weekend because some of those
guys are involved because there's such big question marks there of like, Oh, we're going
to see him in the cauldron again.
And if they don't get it done again, that's good theater for me.
I'm just worried that like there's no meltdown to be had
No, well they might just get tracked down on the back stretch
Which I think would be exciting too because somebody like Rory or Scotty or Brooks who are all
Chillin right now that none of them played great and they're all just sitting there like you said
So I let Scotty holds out on the first hole and then it was pretty ho-hum after that
I mean he kind of slept walk around and he's in what T10? I just think it sets up for a good
event at turn four, to use a horse racing analogy. Randy, I know you were a big turn three guy at
Churchill Downs. Well, that's where the party was. Yeah. But I think there's not a lot of golf courses
that don't give you that, right?
It's kind of my point, right?
The common argument for Valhalla is like,
it produces great leaderboards.
Well, look at the leaderboard at Torrey.
How could you hate this?
It's like, man, when you put the best players
in the world together, it's almost always a great leaderboard.
I would push back, though, because I
think there's a lot of majors when it is set up hard,
where guys play conservatively and just outwit, out outplay outlast. It's like survivor mode, right? Because there is, and I agree
with you that that can be a more exciting version of golf to watch and it may be something
that you or we prefer, but I think allowing these guys to like, I mean, they were flagging
it like Xander was going at every pin today, which is,
That's because there's no downside
I know but greens are soft on Thursday
Yes criticize it but on Saturday and Sunday when guys are trying to win a major
I think that could be very exciting like I agree
It's not good strategy
But it could be good excitement and good theater is the argument making that to that exact point for what again?
We're only gonna share what our opinions are and what we like to see right and there's a shitload of people out there that don't give
A shit about anything we just said right that share what our opinions are and what we like to see. Right. And there's a shitload of people out there that don't give a shit about anything
we just said. Right. That's totally a fair defense. And like, I, I, I would listen to
the take of like the golf course doesn't matter at all. Just let the guys play. That's totally
fine. That's a better take. And I'm not, I know you're not saying this. I got some better
take than saying ball Hall is a good golf course. Right. And I don't even think you're
wrong in that. Like a ton of people will tune in and not care about any of the stuff I just said,
enjoy watching the tournament. And that's totally fine. I'm not,
I'm not gatekeeping any of this.
Well, you guys say this though, I, I, and I,
cause I don't think it's a good golf course.
I know it's terrible. We'll get to that next.
It's so frustrated.
At least I find the golf course very amusing though, much like TC,
before you hopped on the ESPN thing this morning, I called out Funtasia.
Remember that pup pup course in Atlanta?
That's what it reminds me.
It reminds me of going to a miniature golf course, but on a mega, mega scale.
So I get a kick out of like, it's so outrageous, some of these rock formations and waterfalls
that it's starting to become amusing to me.
Do you guys feel that way at all, or does it just frustrate you because you don't like it?
I'll meet you. I'll meet you there, Neil. It like visually, I have no qualms with Valhalla,
right? I think the sight lines are fine. I think some of the rock formations, the waterfalls
are cool. I yeah, at the end of the day, though,, honestly it took kind of solid in those graphics
to really drive home like what is this thing
that is my holdup with the place and that's it.
But yes, like just watching, it doesn't offend me
like what's the course that they played TBC San Antonio
or God where they just played the Nelson
like where it's just like this course like
this sucks but Vahala is not that Vahala right looks it looks great you know the crowd's good
I I love that there's a major in Kentucky I like I like all of that stuff yeah it just doesn't it's
big ballpark for me it doesn't have a ton of character. Setting aside the architecture, I'm just talking about watching on the broadcast. There's great mo strips or the back and forth mo lines. It's
just a big ballpark. There's not a lot of character. There's not a whole lot of intimacy to it.
Robert Leonard There is it, but I think that serves, I'm hopeful that over the weekend, it feels like
there's going to be a lot of fans and some excited fans out there.
And because it's such a big property and it feels like it has some pretty cool sight lines
with the rolling hills, I think the crowds are going to look very cool.
Like I saw a little bit of that today on number two with all the fans sitting on the hill.
I think there's going to be a lot of energy out there.
So I guess that's what I'm looking forward to is it might be a good venue just from a, a
juice standpoint.
That's fair. I think the, the, the other thing I like to call out the bunkers are so shallow.
Some are deep and some are shallow. And again, like the, the one left of 15 that like more
cow hit it into there. Like, it was a really tough shot back at the water. It was like,
it's not at all. It's like, it's that great with the green and these are the best players in the world. Like there's no
punishment for going to that bunker. Anyways, I think we've litigated the point. I think-
It's like Belvedere that we play. Stand down. Listen, I want to talk about a couple other golf
courts before we move on. And that's our friends at Omni Hotels and Omni's Golf Collection. As the

That's Omni.com forward slash generation cup.
Honestly, guys, I think that's sweet.
I try to get KVV and, uh, and his daughter to sign up for these.
It looks kind of, kind of awesome you'll I signed you and Freddie up
Well, I'd love to do it with mom TC, but I don't know if our I don't know if her games like quite there yet
Might have to be next year. We know she would be carrying you Neil. Oh, come on now. Come on now. All right guys
Let's talk a little Rory
Let's talk a little block party.
I guess I could kick this one off.
I would like, you guys have been calling me exclusionary.
You're saying I'm not inviting you to the block party.
All I'm asking for is a simple admission
and kind of just wanna know the-
Oh, we're asking for his admission.
No, no, what I wanna know.
You're not inviting us.
You won't even let us in.
I will, I would love open arms,
but I need you to admit something.
Soly, You said more than
once on this podcast that you're a cult leader. Yes. No, that you
will not be there when Rory wins his next major. Are you going to
stand by that take? Or do you want to come to the block party
and have a good attitude? Don't twist my words. I said I'm done
trying to predict like week of when his next major is going to
be like, I'm not going to be the one that says, yeah, this is
Roy's. This is Roy's week week I've done it like 38 times since he's last one and I just I've just I've resigned myself to it if he wins it
That's great. I'm just not gonna I'm not gonna call it
I just feel like and TC will get to you just in just a second
I I feel like you keep RSVP and yes, and then no showing and I'm kind of counting on you to bring some stuff
So and then you know when you have showed up,
you've left, haven't taken any trash out.
You just, you know, not lending a hand.
This is how I get it.
I feel the opposite this week.
I RSVP'd no, and then new information came to light.
And I said, hey, I would like to bring some ribs.
I would like to bring some Sahis ribs.
And I showed up and I was turned away and now
I'm not a bit turned away yet.
And now I'm down at club at club magenta with big tone and Max.
And we got Cody and I made a graphic inspired by club magenta here.
We have a feeling the block party is gonna go late into the night or nothing will be
nothing nefarious there. But to be candid for a second,
I do like, I thought that was a really gritty and, and good round from Rory today. I said
it during our master's live show that Rory kind of goes when his driver's on and his
driver, he didn't really drive the ball that well today. And I felt like he could have
gone sideways. He could have lost it middle of the round on 18
when he blew it into the waterfall at Fontasia.
He was able to make a mega five there.
And then I think he did birdie one or two, Solly.
Birdie one, almost birdie one.
Yeah, I mean, it's a miniature golf course.
It's unbelievable.
They were looking for the ball down there.
Like that was the highlight of the day for me.
It was like, he's walking down there
next to the electrical pumps for the waterfall.
They got like the rock outcroppings.
There's like five different cameras showing all different parts of the,
of the water feature. It's unbelievable. I mean,
it looks like if Paines Valley,
like some polar bear exhibit at the zoo had a baby.
It's, it's like, I mean, falling water is, you know, it's pretty sweet. But honestly, this is outrageous
Ironically, this is one of the best shots they've had all day of like showing off the elevation change of a hall
I kid looks really flat on camera, but like this shot was kind of like, oh they are going way uphill on this one
So so overall Royce he's four back right now or yeah four back. He's at five under
I feel like he's on the good side of the draw
Yeah, four back. He's at five under. I feel like he's on the good side of the draw. If the weather's bad tomorrow.
Can I ask you this from a sustainability standpoint? Are you worried he's 1 34th in driving today, 21st in approach,
first in up around the greens, so first in in chipping basically, 24th in putting. Are you worried about sustainability of his model today?
So I would be if it was,
I feel like because his superpower in his best part of his game is driving, I feel like that can snap back into form very quickly. So no, I feel like because his super power in his best part of his game is
driving, I feel like that can snap back into form very quickly. So, so no, I'm not because
I feel like if he's getting it done without his best skill, that's kind of what he's missing
when he has a slow start at the masters, like, Oh, he doesn't have his driver. It's all over.
Whereas today it was like, Oh man, he doesn't have his driver. And he's still like, or like,
he's right in it. You know what I mean? He kind of grinded it out. And I felt like he had some really solid up and downs early on. He made
some really like, he made a lot of putts he should make. And what I mean by that is like the eight to
10 footers, he made that birdie on the first hole. It was like, Oh, hell yeah, let's go. And then if
the weather's bad tomorrow, he's in the afternoon, I feel like he gets bumped into Saturday if it's
really bad. And that's, I think
a benefit. Like I think all the guys in the late wave have an
advantage.
How bad are we looking TC? I don't know if you have in front
of you.
It's totally I mean, it's totally just like what's gonna
pop up. Like it's not really a like there's nothing to really
look at right now. It's just kind of like, yeah, we'll see
what pops up. There's a bunch of stuff down in Mississippi that we'll see if that goes Northeast. But overall, I think it's just what pops up over Oklahoma,
Missouri, Illinois, and kind of comes over. So, I mean, of course wet, like he just hit the ball
a million miles, hit it really high. I mean, I don't know. That's what Xander does too. I mean,
that's kind of the thing. I feel like you know you know
people are saying the block party's using a lot of single-use plastics you
know you got you got a lot of... No we're big cans only man big cans only
aluminum baby. You know maybe maybe some designer drugs being passed around I
don't know I'm not gonna get into that but... Do you want to come or not TC? Yeah
I'd like to stop by. So you're feeling good about
Rory? Yeah, I stopped by today and you guys wouldn't let me in. So I'd like to, you know, come stick
around for the weekend. We'll see. Maybe. Yeah. If it's cool. It's just a tough vibe to have at the
party. That's a tough vibe. Neil, I told you this. Like I told you this. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Yes, yes.
TC RSVP to like a million different parties.
He's got Tommy Ladd.
He's got an overnight party that he's got to get to, you know, Big Bob.
I haven't picked Tommy Ladd.
I'm not going to pick Tommy with Fino.
He's running aspirins out to Ludwig to make sure that his knee needs OK.
You know, he's just a busy guy, so he's
got to be able to check in on everything.
But Solly, I said this in our internal Slack,
you are the HOA president.
And everybody hates their HOA president
because you're the first person.
Excuse me, sir, it's 6.01.
Your trash cans were left out in the street.
I don't want to write you up for this violation. Oh, excuse me, sir. The music is too loud. It's five past 10. Excuse me. You know, we have
families in this neighborhood. You got to get them down. That's how you are when you come to
the block party. Get your right permitting. Get the proper permitting. We're fine. We're
at the rules. I got a baby asleep in here. You sent off fireworks and shit outside my window.
Dog, listen, maybe the block party days are behind you.
Go, go to whatever he's down the street.
Guys want to go to.
That's my home.
We're vibing our faces off.
And I will say real quick, seriously on Rory, like who probably one of the most stressful
weeks he's ever had in his life.
A lot of it, who knows what a revolt, but a million things up in the air.
And for him to come out and play this round of golf, I think we're in a pretty good spot.
Hell yeah, Sards. Hell yeah. Let's fucking go, baby.
Get the fuck out of here, HOA president.
That's a citizen's arrest right there.
That is epic. Let me hit him.
Every man Sards coming in and laying it down in his Cypress Point hat. Just a man with people.
Oh my God, that's fantastic.
Randy's down the street. He's not coming. He's just looking through his blinds. in his Cypress Point hat, just a man with people. Oh my God, that's fantastic.
Randy's down the street.
He's not coming.
He's just looking, peering through his blinds.
He's like, ah, just don't step on my grass.
And I'm straight.
Just don't bring me into this.
The last eight of these parties have ended very horribly,
right?
There's a precedent set here.
Sure.
I don't like seeing you hung over off whatever acid you
were doing the night before.
And it's a total blackout situation.
You forget about it by the next major and we got to deal with a depressed Neil in the
whole coming week.
It's a big come down after that.
I'm sick of seeing it, man.
I'm looking out for you.
I've been riding it a little hard the last couple of years, sure.
But I'm feeling good about this one.
I feel like if not now, then when?
Then after this, I'll have some reflection to do. But this feels like- After this, it's, if it, if not now, then when then after this, I'll have some,
some reflection to do, but this feels like after this it's been 10 years. We've got a lot of time to reflect on this returning.
Oh, it feels different.
This does feel different.
Does come on one one here.
You do the having he's going to, he's going to cut the block party in half.
All right.
Well, I mean, PC, you changed your pick Monday.
You changed on Wednesday. You Rory shit came to life dog. What was, what was, PC, you changed your pick Monday. You changed on Wednesday.
You know, shit came to life dog.
What was, what was this new information you speak of?
He's playing free.
He's playing.
He's playing good.
I'm going to say it.
Unshackled.
Yeah.
He, you know, this is the courses is refuge right now.
He's trying to, he's trying to send it. Well, let's talk some real golf
No, that's what I'm gonna say. Let me see. How do you feel like?
So we got I feel good if Rory's chasing Zander down. I feel good. Now, how do you feel saw you picks you pick Scotty?
Obviously Brooks is loitering as well. Like if you're not feeling good about Randy, who are you going with right now? I
as well. Like if you're not feeling good about Randy, who are you going with right now?
I wouldn't say I don't feel good about Rory. You said Randy, but I, again, I open this with like a, this is like a good, this is a good chance for him. Think back to Oak Hill last year,
that shot he hit into the second green. I forget if it was Saturday or Sunday. I was, I was traveling
that weekend, but that one to that front right pin where he just dumped it short side and made
bogey immediately with, with Wedginess hand. Like again, that's not lurking here.
He can get away with stuff.
That makes this a good fit.
So if you are gonna like say this is your chance, Rory.
Yes.
Okay, I'm down with that.
You won't let me into the party to be able to say that.
We only have the conversation,
but like this is a better chance for Rory
than a lot of PGA championship venues
and a lot of US Open venues that we've seen in recent years.
I'm definitely down with it.
It's still early. We got to see how this weather plays out too.
Like that's a whole different element of it. If he's got to play in some bad stuff that doesn't kick people off the course.
I don't really know still what the what the best side of the draw is gonna be. It's it's Thursday.
I'm you know, we're gonna learn a lot more information in the coming days. He's obviously positioned very well.
I'd like to see him hitting it a little bit better, but I agree with you.
He can snap back with driver very quickly, but I don't know, man. We've seen a
lot of these Peter out and they're scar tissue. I'm sorry. There's scar tissue here. I have trust
issues. I'm just not willing to blind trust fall. And if he, if he can't control his spin, if it
gets soggier and soggier and the greens get softer and softer and he's ripping those wedges back.
The one thing that concerns me with Scotty is the back. He was
kind of looked a little stiff or grimacing today if he has to get
a delay in or sit wait around in the midst of after having warmed
up and everything tomorrow. That could be something to watch.
Dad back.
When it was he did have a looming like neck thing there for a
little while which I'm assuming is is not gotten better since having a child.
But, um,
sorry, what were, what were Scotty's stats today? Cause after that first hole,
I, it looked like he had maybe a C game, you know, like, yeah,
just a lot of squirrely not great iron shots.
It wasn't super impressive.
Uh, well he was first in strokes game Tita Green today.
So I mean, he only he was 27th in approach play and on his
opening shot.
So he was he was honestly like zero strokes gained after his
opening shot on the first day, he gained almost two shots
completely with his first approach shot.
So that that is carrying a lot of a lot of the weight there.
But and he made a putt from the fringe, which counts kind of as a chip in that was on the 15th, that gained him almost a shot there. So a little bit
misleading and a little bit of noise and a little bit of that data. But he did lose a stroke on the greens today. I
thought his putting looked pretty bad. Honestly, he had lags had a lot of bad lags.
It's a short one.
And on the par three,
yeah, 14 was a was a tough three putt. So,
which that was such a good shot. He hit in there. I know.
Like it almost crested that ridge and I couldn't believe that didn't jump
forward a little bit more. I know that's yeah.
Well he failed to birdie or uh, yeah. He failed to birdie nine and 18, right?
A couple of the par fives. He just.
Squirrely shot at 18. Like yeah.
And that's where it's like, I feel like it could go one of
two ways. One, he's just not sharp and, and taking the week off and all the baby stuff. Like he's
just not going to find it this week. Or it's like, man, if this was him knocking the rust off.
Yeah. Watch out. I mean, that was kind of the deal at, at, at heritage and at players too. Like he
really didn't have it. And then all of a sudden he was like, oh yeah, like I forgot.
I'm totally better than you guys.
He shot two under in round one.
And then either bogeyed or doubled 18 on Sunday
to win by three, right?
So he blew everybody's doors off
because he shot in round two, he shot six under round three,
he shot eight under and then shot three under
so I mean, 64 is looming for
we'd be remiss we would be a dereliction of duty if we didn't
met mention what a epic shot that was on the first hole
coming off of so you know, paternity leave just saying,
you know, what's up motherfuckers? I'm back, you
know, I mean, just almost booped it like, I thought he blew the
O ring out. I mean, we're live on the air. I'm back, you know, I mean, just almost ooped it. Like I thought he blew the O-ring out. I mean, we're live on the air.
I'm surprised.
What are the, I didn't say that on the ESPN, the O-ring.
I'm not sure what, what the O-ring.
It's it's it.
Listen, I think it's gray area enough.
We're okay.
Uh, that was awesome.
Sign up for the Omni-generation cup.
I think he could win an alt shot with his newborn son right now. All right, Randy, let me ask you
anybody else on the leaderboard? We should be what like of the
horses that you're like, Hey, watch out, look out for this
guy. And before Randy answers, I just want to say like, there's a
total pass on Thursdays to be able to say like, Hey, if you're there Friday, then we'll talk about you. Right? I know. If you get there Friday, we will take you a little bit more serious. I don't know if you want to put you on that category as well.
Well, there's so many names. Yeah, I'd say a bunch of the guys that two under I mean, the guys I was going to talk about where, depending on what the scoring does tomorrow, I mean, you're looking at Cam Smith shot 68 today,
Max Homa, Vic all shot 68 today,
Bryson shot a 68 today,
obviously Brooks at four under
and Colin Mora Kawa at five under.
Those are all names that a few of those
are gonna have great Fridays, I feel like,
and be right there come end of play tomorrow. But like you said,
it's hard to know what the weather and what wave will actually be an
advantage. If there is an advantage,
I there is a lot unknown going into tomorrow right now.
Just like you, just like the golfers, we can't win it tonight,
but you can lose it with a bad take. If you, if you come in too strong with a take too dismissive of somebody or too sure of yourself,
we could lose it tonight sitting here.
Well, so let's do a little thought exercise here.
We're going to do what we call a take sale.
I want you to sell us on a guy on the leaderboard not named Rory, Brooks, or Scotty.
So make the case for me on how they'll win and or why they won't fade. Somebody
you think that's going to be there on Sunday? I said this, you know, I think on Sunday night last
the live show, I think I said on the Monday preview, I think I said on Wednesday was just like,
look, Xander is going to get one. He's going to get a major, right? If it's going to happen,
it's going to be in a situation like this, I think is my is the best bet. He looks really,
really, really good on the greens. I think it looks like to me, these greens are quite easy to happen. It's going to be in a situation like this, I think is my is the best bet. He looks really, really, really good on the greens. I think it looks like to me, these greens
are quite easy to putt. Just a lot of dudes pouring in putts
between eight and 12 feet. His putter was fantastic today. He
was second in strokes game putting today. He can play
offense here. There's just not those big numbers looming like
we talked about. If it's going to happen, it's going to look
like on a course like this, I feel way better about him
lasting and going out and getting a bunch more birdies, birdies tomorrow coming fresh off the week with a really about if it's gonna happen, it's gonna look like on a course like this. I feel way better about him lasting
and going out and getting a bunch more birdies tomorrow.
Coming fresh off the week with a really disappointing Sunday,
the bounce back again.
I feel better about Xander's chances sitting here.
I know he's four shots clear from him,
but I feel better about Xander's chances than I do Rory.
So I was gonna say,
sorry with the stick your neck out,
take of the week, you're taking a half just, you guys think Sanders winning the stick your neck out,
take the week was Paul McGinley. What'd he say? He said he likes the favorites. No, he fans.
He got mad at TC about that one. We love you, That's good stuff TC take sale. What do you got not named Rory brooks scotty or zander? Yeah, uh
This is weird. But you know, I feel like we're playing in a dome right now. Oh, I thought you're gonna do big time
Colombo or kala
I think colin colin look good today. I think his ball flight matches up. I think his his long iron play is elite
Putter looked decent. He's going to hit fairways. I think it's one of those things. I wish they actually
would have brought the fairways in more. I think it's so soggy that the ball's not rolling out at
all. There's no dispersion outside of where your ball lands. If's just, it's going to like, if you hit the fairway, you're staying in the fairway kind of thing. So, uh, I was, I thought I tried to talk myself into
Thomas D tree, Tom Hoagie, I've been nearly shot 66. I have no idea where you at. You're hosting
tonight, but you know, Colin, he's calling, he's fishing in some pods that I was fishing in though.
So I was going to let him see one names. He's a two time major winner. And on courses
that are pretty aerial and you know, that in under pretty
benign conditions. So is you know, he's Neil like, so you're
saying Xander is gonna win one of these? Well, Colin already
has won two of them. In similar circumstances. Randy, who you
got? Sell me.
I got he's listen, he's a global superstar.
So you know, this stage is not too big for him.
Tom cam had us by his own admission, had a stress free day today.
I believe he hit every fairway maybe was the stat, uh, shoots five under sixty
little bit my loins.
Tom Tom Kim, like it shouldn't have been a stress for you.
Round he shorts out on himself on 14 didn't hit the proper shot dumps one back into the bunker. And then from there, it's kind
of an easy, you know, easy up and down. There's there's no
penalties out there. It's crazy. No penalties. And guys are
getting drops from from random spots.
You got to work out that 14th hole. I don't understand. He
dumped it. He shorts out himself and then he made bogey. Like I don't, I don't know what he, what he got. He should have
made double, should have made double. That should be a two shot penalty. This is what I'm talking
about. This is what I'm talking about. Young Tom Kim's going to hang around. Uh, he bagged two
top tens in majors last year, you know, he opened. I just, he didn't hit the ball far enough, right?
Like the models tell you he's not, he's not really got the course fit.
He's touching 175 ball speed out there, which I mean, he was honestly, I think when he won
the first time he won in Vegas, it was like 160.
Granted, he was like 18 when that happened, but he was 51st in distance overall on all
tee shots.
I'm tired of that.
I thought it would be.
Yeah.
I'll be a guy big.
I love you sticking your neck out there with young Tom Kim.
I'm actually, this feels a lot like a super wet, like August day in a
Winston Salem too, like this is something like one of his Windham
wins and something like that Greensboro excuse, excuse me.
Uh, but also you guys can't forget young Tom Kibb also is getting residual perspective off of Scotty.
So he has a lot of those feelings drafting to him as well. Got a new babysitting gig.
Exactly. You know, he's got, he's locked up. They're making $25, $30 an hour these days,
babysitters. Guys, I got one that I think you're going to poo poo, but I'm long Hogecoin this week,
Tom Hogey. I feel like he's just one of those names that you're going to poo poo, but I'm long Hogecoin this week, Tom Hoge.
I feel like he's just one of those names that you're not excited about.
You don't really care, but I think he's going to stay on that first page of the leaderboard
through Sunday.
I think he's just going to be around and I think he's going to do some stuff.
I like it.
Neil, he was in the twisted mind parlay, which is looking fantastic right now, by the way.
I need my guy,
Keith Mitchell to step it up. I don't think he's going to win, but I could see
Hogecoin. No, but what I'm saying is like, he's not going to fit.
That was the whole point of it. Exactly. I kind of had a caveat in there. They won't fit because
obviously you get down the leaderboard and it's, you know, you're going to say,
it's always going to say Xander. Like, oh yeah, that's an easy one. He's got got a three shot lead. I would say Hogecoin. I could see him being in the, in the
final group. I will say that I could, which is like not fun. You know what I mean? It's like, oh great.
Like I wouldn't trust Hogecoin where he's at right now. If he was playing in his own Mira Vista
member guest or pro member. Uh, I don't know what you're talking about. Shrouding Hogecoin. Yeah, like dumping as much as I can.
It's a mean coin.
That's the same thing too.
Like, Homeless Hub's awesome day today, six under, like incredible.
But I just, I don't know if you got the stamina to keep running like that.
And White Belt too.
So no one's buying my take sale.
Okay, cool. I'm going to have to put'm gonna have to put it on the outlet store.
Neil, plus 900.
Facebook marketplace.
Yeah, I'm gonna go to the best offer.
The neighborhood marketplace. Soly has that as part of his administration.
You know what? We'll set up a little garage sale at the block party. How about that?
Postcoin is plus 900 for a top five on the Fandel Sportsbook. Odd subject to change,
of course. If you really like it, plus 900 for a top five if you like it so much.
Okay, I might take a look at that.
I might, I might, I don't know.
Not a lot of conviction in that.
Was Miravista the one that was trying
to have the live event, Cody?
No, no, no, no, that's Merido.
Merido.
Merido.
Sal D'Orez, the Cootie brothers,
we did the interview with Lee Trevino, that's their home. I don't know why they haven't announced it yet, but Miravista also very popular in the Fort Worth scene. But for other off the course activities, you remember that story, but we don't need to get into thatith rib injury. TC, what do we need to know?
He's got a rib injury.
He popped it.
I don't think he popped it back in.
Somebody else popped it back in.
So we're monitoring it.
He's six under.
He shot 65 today.
I'm ready for Sahith to make a leap.
I just, health concerns, kind of like Ludwig right now,
health concerns.
I can't really give him my full stamp of
Feel me sorry pick pick or choose big tone or saw his
Let's go I gosh you're making me choose between two of my two of my sons here I am
Let's go. Let's go saw his think his his short game has more staying power than
than Big Tones does. He has he has that superpower and can
flex into some good lot ball striking. I just don't know if
Big Tones short game can last can last four rounds.
Unfortunately, what do you guys think the lead is after
tomorrow? Like what number 12? That's tough with the weather. I would go to 11. I would say
right. Well, it's good. No conclusion of round two, whether
that's tomorrow or Saturday morning.
I'll call it 12. Yeah, I think 12 is a good number. That's okay.
So you're saying Xander 68.
Yeah, yeah, that feels that feels pretty good. Okay, this
is kind of playing out like I said on the ESPN telecast. It's
kind of playing out like Belle Reve a little bit where round
after the I think the lead after two rounds was 12. And then I
think eight or 911 with Brooks, but I just don't see them being
able to turn the screws enough at this place to, you know, make
it make it more challenging.
Brooks won at 1600 in 2018. What am I looking at? I don't, I don't know. You said that earlier
and I was like, huh? 2019 was, was Beth Page. That was Beth Page. He wanted eight under
at Beth Page. Yeah. Cause he kind of had that almost collapse where we were joking. Yes, he was. Yeah, he was. He shot 6365. The
first two rounds, he had a seven shot lead, hit a seven shot lead after the
third round, and then he wanted eight. He booked five of his last eight holes.
That was sick and kind of almost gave it away.
Randy, we've we've, we've sent our sweet prince to Valhalla to
dine with Odin in the House of the Slain Warriors.
Blocky starts bogey quad.
How you feeling about blocky?
I'm going to I'm going to run all to you.
How do you feel?
Fantastic, Neil.
Oh, don't celebrate it.
Oh, why not?
Hey, you're a hater.
Why not?
I heard for a year.
Oh, blocky this blocky that sponsor exemption here
He's going there guess what he's only beaten for club pros today only four of them. What is this media?
Because I don't see how about how about some love for my guy Jeremy Mueller
You guys know who that is Jeremy Wells Jesse me he's part of the
you guys know who that is Jeremy Wells he's Jesse he's part of the club Pro Jeremy Wells everybody knows Jeremy shot
they're not giving him the chase sapphire shot of the day or whatever I
got Jesse Mueller he shot 70.
I mean, tons of great club pro stories. Like there are every year block. He was always just a nice
little story. And I'm glad I'm so glad we put it six feet under today. Well, the, uh, the club pro
today, I can't remember his name, but the guy that did the walk and talk, he was, he was great too.
I, you know, I don't like, I don't know if he's going to have a hole in one and,
and turn it into like a collab with DJ Khaled, but
so that was Tracy Phillips. Yeah. He's 61 years old. He's actually got a bonkers
story. I guess he quit the game of golf for like 20 years at one point. Um, but
Oklahoma state guy, right? Yeah. He did the walk and talk. Uh, there was a guy,
little mistake guy, right?
Yeah, he did the walk and talk. There was a guy. Was it Gus something without a without a hat on? He had a great look. He
was bowed around. He was Evan. That's who was Evan Bowser. Yeah,
Evan's protesting the PGA of America.
Yeah, yeah. So listen, hey, you guys know, I love PGA of America
club pros. They love me
I'm just I'm done with blocky and I hope America is done with blocky after today guys. I I I
I'm shook. I'm so shook by the Joel Beale article on blocky that
That the line he has in there where he just says I'm facetiming with DJ Khaled and Khaled says to me like this is your
Year blocky don't say no to anything
like our our poor our poor boy took that a little too literally way too literally if I may it's just
uh it's it's a very tough scene and what does it say of the judgment you know you're gonna take
advice from DJ Khaled like what huh what are we doing I can well Randy I, I'm happy for you.
I'm happy for the other club pros getting their shine.
So I want to go to you with this one.
We haven't talked about the cat.
Thoughts on Tiger like three holes in.
I kind of felt similar to how I felt when he walked off at the Masters of like,
bro, I don't really know what we're doing here.
I don't know what you want to get out of this kind of more kind of more in hindsight thinking about it, like again, this is probably
a decent fit for him, just how not penal it is and how he can get away with
stuff and use his short game magic and missing the right spots and scramble
his way out to, you know, shooting one over par finished with two bogeys,
which was really unfortunate.
Um, just, I, again, I just don't see like the path to this being much
better than this or any better than this.
So it's, I don't, I don't really know what we're watching, right?
I couldn't have much, any more respect for the guy's career.
I just don't, it's like, of course, like the, I just don't get any joy out of watching this
version of them.
I hope he does.
Like if he's still getting a joy and thrill out of competing, I just, I can't hear the
same thing over and over.
I just competitive Russ, I was Russ.
It's like, yeah, you don't play any tournaments, man
That's not gonna change like I this is what it's if this is what it's gonna look like
I don't know what what we're you know, what we're really hoping for here. So that's how I feel I
Yeah, I think I think tiger needs to be selective about which majors he plays in
But this one would make sense like a bit. It's like it seems like kind of a big walk.
Yeah, we'll see.
Yeah, it's the sweat and the goat. It just doesn't look great.
It's not somewhere that he's going to be able to...
I don't know, man. It is tough to watch sometimes.
I think the thing is, it's not the place that he's going to be able to gain strokes with Guile and Wisdom.
Yeah.
And Grig. Exactly. You know, it's just it's like hold serve
like that's playing like the BMW championship at KS Valley and
2200 is gonna win, you know? Yeah. Yeah. All right. How
about Rom TC? How we feeling about on Rom? I thought there
were multiple instances today where I thought he was gonna
blow his top and he did blow his
Shit, I know a little bit earlier than he did though
That was on 16, but he kept it together and like got it in the house under par
Which which was shocking because I thought I mean it was four. He was four over through six
birdied seven birdied ten
Bogey the leaven and then rattled off four birdies coming in.
And he had all sorts of histrionics and a great club toss and
some bad misses that just didn't yield any, just like we were saying,
just bad misses after a club toss and he easily gets up and down for par.
What would you guys have said if this was Rory that put this exact scorecard together today?
Wouldn't you be a little upset? Wouldn't you be a little pissed?
Yeah.
Would you be a little like, what the hell are you doing, dude?
I'd have an egg on my face again.
I'm not ready to give Ram a pass for making four out of six birdies coming in here.
This can be a little unfair and Ram might top 10 for all we know in this tournament. And look, maybe, look, this is, again,
might be unfair, but I think it's a little bit fair
to be like, all right, Rom, you're playing
on the less competitive tour.
That part's not really up for debate, right?
So we're at least banking on you showing up for the majors
and being still the hyper competitive same dude, right?
And it's really hard not to reach a different conclusion when you don't show up. Like, I don't, I can't
let you have both things. I can't let you go take the money, play on live, and then not show up and be competitive at the four
majors and just let it pass by. Like it pisses, I could just, I'm gonna wring his neck. I'm in sense watching this. I really was
upset. Like, dude, you're like one of my favorite players to watch. You're still one of my favorite players to
watch and be competitive. Like you are incredible competitor. I
can't have you feeding into the narrative of like, what is
Livgolf going to do for your competitive golf standing,
right? And like he did not show up ready for this tournament
today. He was four over par on one of the easiest major
championship setups you could possibly imagine. And yeah, he
saved it kind of at the end, flipped it at the bottom, but I just need more out of him. And he deserves the scrutiny. Like you made this decision, you took all the money. I felt like we were still at least promised that we were going to get this dude in majors and through two of them. Granted, he might win the last two for all we know. Through two of them, it's been a big disappointment. He's not carrying himself with the same moxie. And it's just frustrating me, man. I still was excited to watch this guy play and I'm still like pulling for him in these championships and
it just like pissed me off to watch him go down this path and then not be competitive.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about the way he's carrying himself. I don't want to read too
much into it or maybe I'm projecting it a little bit, but he doesn't seem to be, I don't know,
he seems to be kind of keeping his head down a little bit and not, not as,
not as swaggy as I remember being last year.
So, uh, I think there's a bunch of guys that I think we can,
we can probably deduce better tomorrow night. Like Hovland, it's still early.
I'm not ready to do thumbs up or thumbs down on him.
Very disappointed in Dustin Johnson
Like he appears to just be completely mailing it in no hat pat fought fought back today
We just quick TC. Can we are we monitoring the DJ situation? Randy? Are we like do we have? Yeah
Are we is he dead? We got emita 2323 is asking the question of DJ. Yeah
Yeah, I mean this is where like I gotta stick my hand up DJ was never really alive to me if DJ yeah. You can make the call if you want. And Johnson. Yeah.
I mean, this is where like, I got to stick my hand up.
DJ was never really alive to me.
Like I know he won a couple of majors, but he, he has always perpetually disappointed
me.
So I, yes, I'm totally okay with writing him off.
I was going to let you bury him tomorrow, but if you, if you're going to kill him
off tonight, he see right. I'm totally okay with writing him off. I was gonna let you bury him tomorrow but if you
if you're gonna kill him off
tonight, I think he's killing
himself off. Okay. Right now,
would you consider his career
disappointment? Yes. He is
dead. I think it's it's kind of
uh it's confounding, right? He
won an event like kinda crazy
consistency for someone you
wouldn't think had that much consistency, but
you know, one, however many years in a row with, you know, at least one or seasons in a row with
one win, but I don't know. It's, listen, we don't need to be talking about DJ right now. Like there's
so many guys like Spieth kind of had it going today and then you know started to to back up a little bit at the end
jt didn't throw up all over himself people were calling it the sperm shirt that he was wearing
today too uh many people tc tc's brandy hd he appears to be flushing it cam smith was good to
see him out on the flats you know know, on the water, the pro.
All right.
TC, before we go down to the leaderboard, I want to go to the leaderboard now.
All right.
We can do that in just a second.
I do want to give a shout out to another proud partner for us and then we can get back to
the leaderboard.
And that partner is Mizuho.
Who is Mizuho?
It's a top global corporate and investment bank.
It's a powerhouse in
Japan in the retail bank space. The Americas is the fastest growing region for Mizuho globally.
Only institutional business in the Americas though. They are the title sponsor of Mizuho
Americas Open this week at Liberty National, the only event where top junior players compete alongside 120 LPGA tour players in concurrent
tournament. In concurrent tournaments, the AJGA Invitational and of course the LPGA event at
Liberty National. Saturday and Sunday, the junior and LPGA groupings are combined.
That is Mizuho. For more information, visit www.MizuhoAmericas.com and be sure to check out
their tournament coverage all week long.
Randy, give us a quick update on what's going on at the Muzuho Americas Open.
Randy Bocci I would love to, Neil. Great event. Liberty
National, TC's favorite place. Michelle Wee West is the tournament host. The big news early today,
Rose Zhang got to her third hole.
She's the defending champion and one last week had to withdraw.
I guess there's a big stomach bug going around is the word.
So you have Rose Zang who withdraw Maya Stark, another favorite of ours.
She had to withdraw.
There there've been a handful of withdrawals, but still very good.
Well, yeah, some caddies as well. It's it knows. It knows no
distinction. Actually a really good leaderboard though, Nellie
Cordo, looking to pick up where her streak got stopped last week.
She fired a two under 70. That is four shots back of your
leader. So me Lee, who is actually, I believe the second
alternate today, the first alternate, Mal Sego, is tied for
second at four under, but some really good names, Gabby Ruffles, she's tied for second four under. In the cohort at three
under is Minji Lee, Celine Boudier, Patty Tabataniakit, Ling Grant, Ariya Jutanegarn, and some really good names at Two Under.
So I will say, 3 to 6 Eastern on Golf Channel all this week if you want a little side dish
while watching the PGA.
That's at Neil's Home Club.
Don't say that.
DC was waiting two and a half minutes for that.
I got no beef with Liberty National though.
It's a proximity to New York City.
It's well maintained.
It's a, and that's a fun tournament to go watch.
All right, TC, get back to it.
Go up the leaderboard, go down the leaderboard.
I'll give you, you know, I'll give you maybe a minute,
maybe two, then I might hit you with an air horn.
We didn't talk much D3.
I don't think we need to.
We'll see if he can perform tomorrow.
Ekro, minus four, 67. Noranrin 67. We didn't talk much Bryson. I don't think
Bryson got a whole lot out of his round today. Yeah, see a lot
and see a lot of them. Yeah, that's a good call. Solly. But
yeah, I think Bryson's prime to be there at the finish. Like I
think Bryson can put the pedal down and really, you know, get
after it here. Kurt Kiteyama, we haven't heard a ton from him over the last,
really since Bay Hill last year.
And just it seems like he's kind of been keeping a low profile, but he's shot 68.
The pro 68, solid if unspectacular, made a bunch of birdies.
I'll say four birdies.
I will say he did have that chip in out of the bunker that was probably going in
the water if it didn't go in.
Did you guys see that?
I did.
I know.
Because there's all that 46 dudes shot two under or better today.
Yeah.
It's a lot.
That's where I'm like, yeah, wait, yeah.
Spieth didn't play like Spieth's a hundred to one to win now.
I speak like, I feel like two under or three under was kind of part of day.
Like the odds are telling you that like two under too far back right now. If you shot 69 today, the first round of a
major you're too far back. I will, I would like to shout out
ESPN, I said this on Twitter, but ESPN plus and you know, the
alignment PGA of America, like, they went with feature groups
starting with like the fourth group and they went I swear that
I didn't count it. But I think they went close to two hours, no
commercials this morning and I
know ESPN plus is a paid service but listen, you are not getting
that on the cock.
The cock that's not happening. I'm doing that. It was fantastic
coverage. I wanted like my coffee got cold and I wanted to
go get another one and I could not get up. They just absolutely
pound us they had five straight great feature groups and a
little bit out of balance. This is me watching a lot of the
early round coverage.
There was no breaks to be had.
There was a lot of interesting golfers out in the golf course.
It was a great start.
Definitely lost steam in the afternoon.
The waves are a little out of balance
for some of the more interesting guys to watch.
But this morning was fantastic viewing
and it was a great, great product.
I'd like to say I was a little disappointed. I kind of thought Mickelson was going to, you know, hang around
a little bit more. He just, he got, he kind of wrecked his rig coming down the stretch,
which is, which was a bummer. I mean, he got a wrecked rig at the beginning. I know, but
then he got to one under and I was like, you might do something here. And then he just,
it didn't look good coming in. He looks like, so I called it out earlier. It looks like
the XFL coach. I mean, it's got the snakeskin belt on the
Jordans look kind of funky on the old man. It's, it's, it's something to something to behold.
What is major part? What does major part? Like I feel like we can trick ourselves
into saying like, oh yeah, he got it to one under that, but what is like actual,
if this was a real major,
what would the par be?
Like 70, 69 and a half?
I think 69, 69 and a half.
Yeah.
It feels like Rom shot like one over today.
I know he's technically one under,
but that's like a one over par round, I would say.
Because I think you've got,
the scoring average isn't going ballistic
because you've got club pros,
you've got some guys that played pretty bad in there. A couple of the guys wanted to shout out.
TC, I did see a tweet from Justin Ray that said that this is the most Browns in the 60s ever at
a, I think a PGA championships and it beat Medina in 2006. It had 60, I think there's 64 or more now
that were under, that were in the 60s. to shout out Adam had when I know, you know
He's got deep deep deep Louisville roots Louisville roots
He's a Cardinal
We got a clique on the board guys Martin Kimer. Sure. Shout out to the captain
Shout out to toasty toasty shot 68 Svensson. I think the Scandinavians
played pretty well today. Jasper Svensson is up there. Rasmus Høygaard. We saw some
of Nikolai today. And then lastly, I wanted to give a shout out to Jason Duffner. I did
not see a 68 coming from him. And I don't see one coming from him tomorrow either.
The Scandinavians love and volhalla. I want to hang with Odin.
I love it.
Could be something there.
Could be something there.
That's exciting stuff.
All right.
Can I shout out, sorry, can I shout out one guy that's just
disappointing from Liv.
And it's not who you think I'm going to say.
It's Joaquin Nieman, who shot two over.
And he was a guy I really not going to be able to do that. I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that.
I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that.
I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that.
I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that.
I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that.
I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that.
I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that.
I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that.
I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that.
I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that.
I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that. I'm going to be like, I'm not going to be able to do that. stage, you know, with, with Max getting his at Augusta, like Joaquin's Wiki profile is not good and disappointing too over
today.
Do I, do I, am I counting right?
There's no currently no lift players in the top 10.
Keppke leading it at T12.
Kymer T18, Cam Smith T18, Bryson T18.
Um, I think that's it in the top 30 after round
one for guys in the top 30 after round one is
sorry, I gotta I gotta I gotta hammer on the smash hat. And
just the entire outfit that Gooch was wearing.
You know, that's my team now. Like, come on. I'm directing
this at you. I mean, he inspired your outfit tonight TC now
you're gonna now you're gonna dog them. I mean, you inspired your outfit tonight, TC. Now you're gonna dog him?
I had to. You're seeing the cornhole. This is what I was seeing with TC. This was full Kermit meme. That's what I had as soon as I saw that. It's like, oh god, TC's gonna have some takes tonight.
All right, let's get to it. The moment of joy. Solly, moment of joy this week.
We had a great trip. This might not technically be this week, but I was flipping through
my phone through photos and it did give me joy today when I
found this been a great trip to band and our guy pushes with us
like diet cokes were were consumed but my joy was getting
to share something with my guy push. He'd never got to
experience the vision pro and at the hotel. We got to we got to
strap it on he got to he got to see into the future. He got to sit there
and play around. He's looking down Guava lane right now. 100%. It just brought me a lot
of joy to be able to share that with my guy, Poosh, and to have this image forever. Saved
it by phone. That's the future right there, people. If you're watching, that's what the
future looks like. It sure looks unique. So good. TC, what do you got? Yeah, a lot of joyful moments this week.
What you're seeing Lady J pop up in and around the grounds, but I'm going to go back to the well.
The 13th hole continues to bring me just immense joy. It's, it's, it's so like, I want more holes like this out there. This whole fucking rules like the like all of it.
It's it's bad, but it's also good. Like you, you kind of, you got to hit the fairway. If not in the
fairway, you're trying to hit the green. You might go in the water. The hole is so radically built
up. Like I know my dad is sitting at home watching this. Nobody loves stone masonry and
stacked rock that and falling water. Yeah, that wants to look natural, but there's so much of it
that there's no way it is natural. And, you know, so I just I know he's sitting at home like this is
like if, if, you know, the place in Branson top of the rock or whatever, had a baby with TPC sawgrass.
This is what it would look like.
And then you add in all the bunkers down the left side there
that are 30 yards into the rough.
It's so funny.
Can I?
It's like the treehouse bridges
coming in and out of the green.
I love it.
I know, I love it too.
How many, if you had to, oh my God,
if you had to guess,
how many balls do you think went in the water,
including a field with 20 club pros, 21 club pros,
and how many balls?
Four.
I'm counting three, maybe four.
I think you're exactly right.
Four.
93.5% of the field hit this green regulation today.
It was the third easiest hole,
at average 3.75 strokes today.
God, the guys were going at it too, was was in that front right spot and guys were not-
It was so easy.
They just weren't scared at all.
I think they need to shrink this green, make it half as big or they need to shrink this
fairway and make guys challenge the bunkers and try to clear the bunkers.
None of them were worried about it spinning back into the water.
I think Scheffler almost did, but it got caught up on a little bit of a collar there.
Only five guys that hit the fairway ended up missing the green.
The 13 guys that drove it into the left rough, 76% of them hit the green.
All nine players that missed the fairway to the right also hit the green.
It's just like, there's no design to it at all. Like everybody hits the green. It's just like, if there's not like, there's no design to it at all. Like everybody hits the green.
It's insane.
It's so sick. It just, every time I see a pop up on TV,
I get a big smile on my face and I'm just, Oh, Barbara, look,
it's my hole. You know,
Randy, what do you got moment of joy?
Well, we alluded to it a little bit earlier, but, uh, I woke up.
I'll tell you, you know it a little bit
on the second. My guy made a mess around that second green and it just was it was just pure joy that washed over me
like oh my god. It's so nice. We don't have to do this again
this year. Um it just is a good place to be. Wait, you think
he's not coming in the booth this weekend? Like I I we're
not off the hook at all. Well, he might have some stuff at
raising canes. He might, you know, he I work the drive. Sure my guy's got a at all. Well, he might have some stuff at
raising canes. He might, you
know, he I work the drive.
Sure, my guy's got a big
schedule. Yeah. We might see
more of him this weekend than
than we see this week.
Although, I hear the
Corbridge Financial
commercial is on every
commercial break and he's
dead center in that one. Yes,
he is. Um I've got him at
minus 10, 000 to visit the
booth at some point this week. I think that's I think that's a great bet. I got to ring the towel of all the juice for sure.
Bring that towel if you get out of the shower there.
All right, let me play caboose here.
I'm taking it to my own golf game.
As TC, TC was dogging me.
Actually TC wasn't dogging me.
Randy was dogging me about my publics.
I was lifting you up, Neil.
Event yesterday, I played in the Met Golf Association
Qualifier.
My moment of joy is I put the actually put a new ball in play the left dash and I put
a stamp on them Pro V2s and so I got a bunch of joy out of telling the guy when we were
exchanging like, Oh, what ball are you playing? I was like, Oh, it's title is four. It's a
Pro V2 and he was like, huh? Huh? The guy I played with was great.
He shot, let's see.
So I played awesome, like really, really well in the range, shot two over 73, qualified.
I'm fired up, right?
And I played a two-some with the first group out.
So it's like, oh my God, we're playing fast.
This guy was like, he was great.
He was in his forties, never heard of no laying up but just a just loves golf plays in all these mid am
events. And, uh, he was like, you know, had no, he's like asking me truly if like a pro V two exists.
I was like, no, it's kind of a joke. Like, you know, so it was just, uh, it was a really, really fun,
fun round. And, and Randy, I know you'll get a kick out of this. You know, how much I love
low stakes competition. I just got such joy out of being out there for like four or
five hours, just not thinking about anything else, but grinding my nuts off. And it worked
out and I played good. And so that brought me a ton of joy. It was worth the traffic
getting there and getting home.
Neil, you're putting in the exclusionary events.
Neil, I like to poke fun at you, but that very, very impressive and great golf.
Shit is very hard to do.
It's very hard to do to go.
I played such an around, nobody would have recognized me.
It was so sensible.
It was so boring, Sally.
It's fun to play boring golf.
It was great.
One under coming in too.
Yeah.
Like a double, kind of a double early.
And then you, you were, you watched that 34 on the, on the nine coming in.
Yeah. The third hole I made double.
It was like, I put my hands on the proverbial, like electric cow fence, just
like such a bad double.
And then I just got it right back on track.
Just made one double one bogey, one birdie all pars.
It was kind of a pretty, uh, you know, it was, it was kind of scruffy Muni rock,
rock Lake golf course up in Bergen County, New Jersey.
So, um, can I have a request?
Can we get some cameras on you for the actual Publinks?
So the Publinks, yeah, it's at the Spook Rock course.
We could discuss it, yeah.
I mean, it's a 36-hole day, so it's the longest day in Met
Golf, you know?
It's just a one-day thing?
Yeah, one day, 36 holes.
But they only let the public guys out there for one day.
It's June 13th. Thursday, June 13th. So I got some work to do.
I need to get the lab.
I hope they don't find out about your Liberty National membership.
Oh no, TC. Come on. You know, I'm the tri-stateroomestest.
Have any member guests cleared that?
No, Randy, I got none on the calendar. So I got the kid out here. I don't have a
ton of time. I hadn't played golf since.
Imagine, I didn't, I expect to go out and I was like, Oh, let's break 80.
I go out and shoot 73.
Like that's, that's like the best score I've put on the board in 12 months.
Unbelievable.
The wife and the kid rushing the green.
How cool would that be?
I mean, what a world.
I give you a blocky, Randy. If we film it, I'll be
I'll hit you with a me, you know, just for you big guy. What that bring the cap down to that had to hurt the cap, huh? Well, so I asked after the rounds, like, are you guys going to post this?
I don't want to double post. And I haven't actually haven't checked, but it definitely did. I was at
a four. It's got to, got to bring it down below four. So, um, so I'm coming in next week. You know, the Aaron Hills, you
know, primed we'll see, Sally, we'll see. Can't wait, buddy. Can I let us open Thursday?
Um, yes, it is. It's us open week. All right, Cody, we're gonna we dog. Come on, man. What
'd you say? You're bailing on us. No, just for Thursday. It's a one-day thing.
It's a one-day thing.
I just might need you guys to cover me for a day.
Must be nice to know the head of HR.
Oh, come on.
I always approve your vacation hours.
All right, a few house notes before we get out of here.
Well, first off, Cody, do we miss anything?
No, I think we're in a good spot.
All right, good.
House notes, if you're looking for something
to watch during a rain delay tomorrow, potentially us, we'll be on ESPN2 again from 1pm to 3pm Eastern and then this weekend.
I was gonna say that's potentially something we didn't mention was we did live television for
two hours today. Hopefully people got a chance to watch that, but that's a bit of an adventure
and a new challenge for us, some technical challenges as well, but gosh is it fun when
we get going. Appreciate everybody's feedback on all of it and encouraging us.
It feels, uh, it feels very awkward to do, but people seem to be very into it.
So we're, we're very happy to do it and keep it fired back up again tomorrow.
Yeah.
So I totally stunting on me going to commercial really nice job with, with
all the stuff going on with all the producers in our ears, that that is tough.
Uh, a lot of ideas, iosyncrasies that we had,
you know, had to get used to on the live broadcast today. But that was fun. We'll be back tomorrow,
1 PM to 3 PM ESPN2. And then on the weekend, is it, it's 11 AM to 1 PM this weekend?
Or is it-
It's 9 AM to 11 AM on Saturday and Sunday.
Okay. I saw, well, I thought, I thought maybe the graphic was off because I thought we talked
about 11. So it's 9 AM to 11 AM on Saturday and Sunday. Okay. I saw. Well, I thought, I thought maybe the graphic was off because I thought we talked about 11. So it's 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Got it.
Which might be like the magic hour on Saturday.
We might get some round two action. Yeah.
All right. That'll be on ESPN plus on the weekend. So just just note that. And then
if you're looking for something else to watch tomorrow, Episode 5 of Tora Sauce is live
on this here YouTube channel, as is an
all shot match with Cody and Cam Young that was a ton of fun to watch. So dive into those.
We put out a lot of content this week. Also KVV wrote an awesome, awesome feature piece
on Victor Hovland. Victor in the mix again, looking pretty good. So I'm chipping it pretty
well today. So catch up on that. It's a great read.
And then we also have some-
We'll try to get Kev on tomorrow. I think it would be good to have like a two-day update.
You know, obviously Moore's developed since then with Mayo being back in the mix and Victor
in a good spot. So excited to- Neil, maybe we call him in.
I love it. I love it. We would definitely, definitely be working the bullpen here the
next three days. We also got some Nest exclusive video
content. We put out Taurus sauce director cut videos. You can find those in the Nest section
at nlu.com, nolayingup.com, excuse me. And lastly, if you like this broadcast,
like what we're up to, why don't you go check out the Pro Shop, stock up on some golf apparel.
We got some new gear in the Pro Shop store.no laying up.com guys.
Did I miss anything?
No good note on, uh, on hobbling all that to say he did chip well today.
He had a, you know, almost, uh, almost a full success rate getting up and down
and, and sure came look pretty tidy.
It's worth.
No, what we think of J-Day's fit today and what can we expect tomorrow?
Unspectacular and on a fence. Yeah, I was underwhelmed. I had no issue with the blade collar
I thought I you know, Malvin seems to really like green. I like green. So whenever they they throw the greens out. I'm cool with that
Okay, I want to see Boulder. I want to see these overalls. You were promising me TC
I haven't seen this is the good stuff right here for people watching most career major top tens without a win.
Ricky Zander Tony.
Ricky Zander at 12, big tone at 10.
I love it.
That's for people in the field this week.
I want to see Ben Coles on this first page of this leaderboard again tomorrow.
I was bummed for him a couple weeks ago losing that tournament
and I want to see him lock up his tour card for next year and keep the pedal down. He's a good
dude. I like Ben. Love it. All right, well we'll be back tomorrow and we'll see you then. Thanks
for joining. Cheers!
