Ladies and gentlemen, it is 4 p.m. Eastern time, but it is five o'clock somewhere Welcome back to the no laying up live show presented as always by our friends at high noon
Happy hour edition us women's open. Solly here, Randy is
here. Hello Big Randy, how are you? I'm great Solly, thank you for having me.
Looking forward to an awesome rest of the week. You guys got me fired up for
the preview, you know, for the US Women's Open in the preview. We're gonna talk a
little bit more about it here today. TC is here repping the cliques, of course.
Hello TC. Hey Solly, I think it's probably five o'clock in the maritime provinces out in Canada. I'll boot that eh? I think that's exactly right. Guys got a
brand new introduction in the high noon line I'm gonna surprise you guys with it
I got it I went shopping for it I went and found it it is at our local Publix
TC introducing the high noon all-new vodka iced tea it's time to finally ditch those sugary malt
based teas try high noon vodka iced tea made with real vodka and real iced tea guys i'm gonna try
it live right here for the very first time is it just iced tea like is it is it flavored iced tea
or is it that's i got a raspberry one here there's an original there's a lemon we're gonna get there
tc original peach lemon and raspberry it is great for any occasion of the
sun gosh I'm not a big ice tea person that is fantastic you can
visit high noon spirits calm to find a pack near you they got a
great tool in there that helps you find identify whatever
whatever you're looking for whether it be vodka tequila or
these brand new iced tea ones that is freaking fantastic that
is that just tastes like summer it's exciting lemon those lemon ones are gonna it might be a hot boy summer with these new iced teas.
It's officially Florida hot. Yeah I need to get out and try. I'm really curious what that regular
flavored iced tea tastes like because Tron your people down south keep trying to push this sweet
iced tea thing and it's the most
disgusting stuff I've ever had in my life.
It's not sweet iced tea, it's just sweet tea.
So anyway, neither here nor there.
Don't need to start a cultural battle here tonight.
We're going to talk a lot of Lancaster, a lot of US Women's Open.
I think the news of the day kind of been foretold for like really weeks now and foretold as of
Sunday night well on the podcast but the charges officially dropped for Scotty
Scheffler what an just a what a massive massive massive waste of time effort and
what if this entire thing was I mean a kind of felt like I was taking crazy
pills for a while there I was like hey where's the evidence what are they
possibly still pursuing here KVV of course reported
they were getting ready to drop the charges.
The timeline changed a little bit,
but they have now officially been dropped.
Randy, do you have any reaction to this news today?
Not surprising.
Have we gotten an update on the pants?
I don't know where the pants shake out in all of this,
but crazy to think that, you know, weird stuff always
happens at Valhalla and now we have Scottie Scheffler possibly probably being denied a
major championship because of a rogue police officer.
Unbelievable.
And a bad setup.
Yeah, they need to be looking out there looking for whoever set up that golf course more than
the, you know, the guy turning left to get into the parking
lot.
The God of Lore was asking where will Kevin Van Valkenburg's victory lap be held for being
right all along on Scotty.
icky32 said can we please provide Kevin Van Valkenburg a runway for a victory lap.
He stuck his neck out there in the KVV honorary stick your neck out there pick of the week.
I talked to him today he he said, we always felt confident
in our sourcing information from what we understood.
The county attorney got involved for reasons that were,
still unclear and held this ultimate decision up.
But the evidence was always clear,
which is why the county did not proceed with the charges.
So just like in the big short,
maybe early, but I'm not wrong.
That was the final statement there.
That's my motto.
With Fleetwood.
With Fleetwood.
When Tommy wins, we're gonna get a lot of that.
Just wait for it.
So yeah, just a massive waste of time.
It's over, I guess, and it will be freaking crazy
if he goes on to win the last two majors of the year
and we look back with this massive, massive what if, but what I love seeing
can you Scottie's attorney clapping back at the reporters too, basically saying,
you know, Hey, this contradicts what Scottie said to the police officer.
And he's like, Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Like the police officer was, he was asking him some very leading questions
and basically trying to get him to confess
right there on the spot when he's, you know, his brain's clearly pretty jumbled at that
point.
I was going to say, can you imagine if Friday morning Nellie Korda got arrested and thrown
in jail?
Like it's, I think this Scotty thing is just going to get wilder the further we get from
it. Like I truly don't think I have not processed like how bizarre and weird the
whole thing was.
It just a massive, massive, massive avoidable overreaction to the whole
thing. And yeah, go watch the video of the surface today of Scotty being
interrogated the police officer. And that's why you don't talk to cops right
there. That exact way of like why that yeah here's your rights you don't have
to talk to me Scott he's like being as cordial as possible in it and explaining
his thinking but like the cop is asking very leading questions as his attorney
points out and yeah there's no benefit of saying even a word even if it's an
accident even if it's like you're in the right and you're trying to you know not
incriminate yourself you could they're gonna try to get you to submit evidence
that we'll be incriminating.
So that was, I don't know if that video
was what they thought it was gonna be originally.
This guy leaned through the window.
I didn't know if he was a cop or not.
He hit me with his flashlight.
Well, you know what, you should have stopped.
Doesn't matter who he is, you should have stopped.
Like, get out of here.
Like, there's no difference between a security guard
and a cop.
Yeah, there is.
There's a big fucking difference.
And yeah, that's why you're supposed to identify yourself
as a police officer.
And after you'd already been told
by a different police officer
that he should take this route,
the whole point of you being there would be to, you know,
whatever, it's in the past, it's over.
Maybe, I don't know.
I mean, I'm sure we'll start probably still be talking
about this for four years to come. But guys, the feedback,
listen to your guys preview pod on got you got me hyped on
Lancaster. I don't know if we got Randy to say it right yet by
the end of the the episode or what?
No chance all week. I tried to say it as quickly as possible. I
just feel like I'm mispronouncing it still though.
I'm trying to say it as quickly as possible. I just feel like I'm mispronouncing it still though.
Like it sounds like it's Lang, Lang Kister.
Like Lang Kister.
Yeah.
Lang Kister.
Which there is a Lancaster, Ohio,
which we grew up with, Randy.
That's add a little bit of confusion to it, I think,
but it's just like a Delhi in Cincinnati, right TC?
The, the court, this is a weird kind of merging
of what I felt like watching the flyover of the golf course,
but it has that Northeast vibe of those courses
that really use land in an interesting way
that basically like it dictates
how you have to play the hole.
I'm thinking on the, gosh, I'm drawing a bike
on what hole it actually is on the back nine there
that drops down to the left and goes back up to the right.
Like the land is just gonna dictate your route to the hole more than it is.
Like I mean think back to Valhalla's like if there's a dog like to cut you just cut it right.
There's no there's nothing stopping you from you know from taking a path towards the hole.
Whereas this is like no no you're going to go through these checkpoints that one par five on
the back nine that weaves up around to the left. You got to do all that but it also has like a
little mix of like Atlanta Athletic Club in it TC of
Like water like built up into greens a lot of angled greens with like rock walls and creeks and ponds in front of greens
That was just like man
That's just an interesting kind of combination twist of major championship golf. It's it's that but with actual good design. Yes
It's not that's yeah, it's a small part of Atlanta Athletic Club. The design is not remind me of AC other than just like some of
those fly over a little bit Medina too of just like where
some of those greens sit.
The rock wall, yeah, way that it interacts with the water for
sure. I think I knew you're gonna be patient with me on that
one as soon as I said that. But that was trying to be first
thing that came to mind on that one.
Yeah, I think I mean, I'm stoked, man. A few of the like
the membership seems
stoked. The surrounding area, like they're already turning out Tuesday and Wednesday in a big, big
way. The crowds look big out there. I guess there were record crowds back in 2015 when they had it
here. I mean, I think we're in for an absolutely banner week and the weather forecast could not
look better. Talked to a couple members who've said,
if our superintendent is involved at all, like they, like,
they might make some of these ladies look foolish.
Like it's truly going to identify the best players.
It's going to be a proper us open setup in its distance control,
distance control, distance control, or spin control, all that.
Like you're going to have to hit proper irons and be hidden out of the fairway into these
greens.
Cody, I apologize in the morning I was gonna do this. But
after you were guys were talking on the pod about the crowds,
and I went back and looked at some highlights from 2015 of
just like, just the stacked layers of people on flash for you
listening on the pod, I'm just flat flashing a couple images up
there of you know, coming up the 18th hole and just like 1012
rows deep. I mean, you know,
you're used to seeing this on men's major championships, not all women's major championships
look like this. Like they don't all get the local support, like a bunch of these images and maybe
Miss Fox covering USGA events as well looking back on some of that on some of that footage as well.
But yeah, it was context to we did work. That's right. We did remote work for ESPN and Omaha
productions during the PGA championship. Thank you. Thank you for that. That's right. We did remote work for ESPN and Omaha productions during the PGA Championship.
Thank you. Thank you for that.
Shutting that out. And I think there was some confusion as
whether we do have shot link this year, but we do that is
official. We got it baby. We rocked them. Yep. It's going to
be wall to wall shot link. So all the live scoring stats, the
end of day stats packages, all of that.
I think you can see player highlights
just about all throughout their round, I believe.
Good stuff to augment this US Open.
So kudos to the USGA for making sure
that got brought back this year.
Solid TV windows, I know you guys went through this,
but you gotta jump around a little bit. Of course it's NBC, so they're gonna got to jump around a little bit. Of course, it's NBC. So
they're gonna make you jump around a little bit. But it's
Peacock from 12 to two on Thursday, Friday, then over to
USA Network. They got characters welcome feature groups as well
starting as of 8am, which is important as Nellie is off at
813 off the 10th T on Thursday. And then Saturday one to three
Peacock three to six NBC Sunday. I love this one two to
three peacock three to four USA four to seven NBC. But listen,
it is it is one of the best their their best efforts they put
on live from will be there this week as well. Like it's they
treat this one.
They're only major. It's their only effort. It's the only one.
Yeah.
What's the golden? They It's the only one. Yeah. What's
the golden? They've got the golden hour. It's an Olympics
tie in. Yeah, our guy to Rico is going to be hosting. I don't
know how they're gonna tie it in. But some Paris Olympics.
Yeah.
Why don't you take us through some some buying or selling
Randy for for, uh,
for some, some items here for us. Women's open.
Yeah, thank you. I, uh, we,
we teased this game on the preview pod did not get to it.
We thought it would make a fun happy hour. So, um, buying or selling,
I think what do I have here? Seven, seven topics. And the first one,
very simple.
You buy in Nelly Corda versus the field this week.
Buying.
Yeah.
Smashing that subscribe button.
I wanna come up with a hot take,
but again, I just listened to all the stats
you just read off of what the historic pace that she's on.
And it-
Proper set up.
It also to me, it just doesn't feel-
Proper at all.
It honestly just, she's been playing great.
She's been playing unbelievable, really good golf,
but it does feel like the rest of the field
has receded as well, right?
Like there's no one even emerging as a number two,
like as a threat, as in like a Xander
that's out there on the PGA Tour to Scottie right now.
Until founders.
What did Miss Lillia do?
And what did Miss Lillia do? I think founders kind of did say like,
Hey, you know what?
Two ladies separated and raised their game down in New Jersey
a few weeks ago with Madeline and Rose.
One of seven events.
Like that's what I'm saying though, right?
It's, you know, it's Hannah Green would be.
Hannah Green was pretty game in their showdown for lack of a better word.
A couple of weeks ago at Mizzouho too.
She did not, she did not wilt.
She had a bad 72nd hole, but, um, she's not a singular player or character that's
rising up like, like you said, Lillia or Charlie or, you know, angel or someone
like that, Alison Corpus think back to her dominance last year, right?
I mean, it's, it's, yeah, it's, it's Thompson golf 94 was asking, is Hannah know, Angel or someone like that. Allison Corpus think back to her dominance last year, right?
I mean, it's yeah, it's in Thompson Golf 94 was asking is Hannah Green the biggest
danger and threat to Nellie quarter this week.
She's a lot farther down the odd sheet.
So the that wouldn't dictate it.
I was surprised to see Rose is the number two favorite this week.
But Hannah Hannah's got major championship pedigree and has, you know,
as you know, has played Nellie tough when she has gotten
into contention with her.
So I would consider her definitely to be one of the threats
if there is to be one, but I think, I think it's kind of
like how it was with Tiger.
It's kind of just depends on how Nellie plays, right?
If she plays above her median level of golf,
it's, it's night night, it's over.
I think so.
Yeah. Going out early too, like going out early first day,
she can go set the pace if she wants to
and post something and then it's gonna get harder
as the day goes along.
Yeah.
Second topic, tying in Hannah Green here.
I think it's fascinating.
Hannah has, she's the only other person on the LPGA this year
that's won multiple times.
She's now the highest ranked Australian
per the Rolex ranking.
So buying or selling Hannah Green
as the best Australian finisher this week.
Of course, I think her main competition,
Minji Lee is a name that always is around
at big major championships.
And then Gabby Ruffles.
So I'll put it to you guys,
buying or selling Hannah Green
as top Australian this week.
Selling.
I'm selling as well,
because honestly I forgot for like a half a second there
that Gabby Ruffles is Australian
and I was getting ready to buy,
but I'm joining you guys.
I was pro Gabby couldn't speak,
but even before I listened to last night's episode,
I was like, we're gonna
have we're gonna have way too much I think on the line with
Gabby ruffles this week from if I if I pick it up what you guys
are putting down.
Yeah, I think Gabby I think Steph Kiriakis playing pretty
good golf right now too. And I'm ready for Minji to start poking
her head back out to she's she's been sleepy start to the year
and I was expecting her to kind of come out rejuvenated this year
But I think we're due for her to you know, especially with proper ball striking course
I think very interesting week for Minji
She she'd always been a killer at the founders
She played okay there this year, but kind of a Northeast old-school type setup so I could see Minji
Really playing well this week obviously Obviously a history in US opens herself.
So I think that'll be a good one.
Low Australian should be a good battle.
Real quick, are we positive positive
it's gonna play in favor of bombers?
I know what I understand what you're saying.
No we're not.
I don't think it's necessarily bombers.
I know what you're saying about high ball hitters, right?
To hold in front greens.
Just good, just good iron players.
Like I think, I think there's going to be a lot of spots
where like, if you go long or if you're in the wrong spot,
like it doesn't matter how good you're chipping
or your putting is, you just, like,
you're going to make bogey or double.
Cause there's just so much slope in these greens
back to front.
You know, I decide.
TC, it sounds like we might have whiffs of a,
both a physical and a psychological evaluation this week.
I hope so.
I hope so.
Yeah, we can get into more of the core stuff later.
Next topic, buying or selling Rose Zhang
as the most likely of possible first time
major winner this week?
I'm gonna sell on that one.
And I don't know why I just it's not been a slow start to Rose's career and
again coming off founders where she just went absolutely apeshit and
won that one in dramatic fashion but like just quite haven't quite seen it.
The majors that she's played in so far I mean she's still school is she out of school yet for for the year? I don't know the answer to that but just seems
like she's got a lot going on right now and I think there's a more likely first time major
winner. It's basically her versus the field for non-major winners. I'm gonna take the data on
that one which would say like it's more likely to be somebody else. Solly siding with the data.
Solly siding with the data. I'm shocked. I mean, who else are the like, who's the other candidates?
Well, so many like a Megan Kang would be there. A Lynn Grant, a Maya Starr, an Angel Yin.
I know she's not exactly healthy. Madeline. Yeah. A lot of a tie would be a first time
major winner. Which is crazy.
Like that's, that's the one player I kind of got off of our recording
yesterday, just kind of scratching my head of like, Hey, we, we
straight up just didn't even mention.
You know, like, I think Attaya almost seems like Xander a little bit, right?
Of,
yeah.
And she was hurt to start the year.
So her year got started a bit late i i agree
with you hold that thought though tc on atti hold that thought we might have a buy or sell topic
coming up on that i iaka foot away is also one of the top five favorites i think in the field and
she's not won a uh one it's her birthday this week too yeah nasa hataoka yeah there there'll be there
are a lot of women that have played really well that you know
Haven't won that first major yet
Next topic more broadly speaking buying or selling Charlie Hull as currently the best player in women's golf without a major
Which you can add Charlie to that first time major winner, you know if she were to win
I guess it's just how you how do you define best player? Is it kind of someone who's top end,
you have confidence in them to rise to the moment
or best career without a major,
a la Tommy Fleetwood or Monty or something?
I like more in the moment.
I like more in the moment today.
I'm gonna say no.
I think Rose is a better player overall than Charlie Hall. I just have
the expectations for Rose are just massive, right? I think that's a good tell. And I think Ataya is
probably the right answer. Speaking of Ataya, Ataya Titicum TC, I think I know which way it'll be
going, but by herself Ataya Titicum is currently the forgotten woman and women in the LPGA world.
I'm buying that.
I mean, it's, you know, it's like, in fact, I don't even think
that needs to be on the shelves.
That's just like, we're giving that away.
If you, if you buy anything or sell anything, this with, with it,
with your purchase.
I gotta put, I think Min Ji, I mean, one of the US women's open in 2022, won the Evian in 2021
as well and finished runner up at the KPMG two years ago and then no top 10s and majors last year.
She was balling, she was straight ball in there for
a while and has not been doing that for quite some time and maybe maybe maybe
doesn't qualify as forgotten woman because we're kind of you know we're two
years removed from that but I mean it's been a pretty pretty harsh fall off in
the biggest tournaments.
I mean is Lydia the forgotten woman right now too?
Geez.
Yeah, I would listen to Lydia. I mean I I would again, Lily Vu, what's the most important
ability availability? Um, I don't know. I think it's a tie though. She, she just like, she won
the VAR trophy last year for lowest scoring average. She had a ridiculous number of top 10.
She's won twice on the LPGA tour. I think she's 21 years old like for us as you said did not talk about her in our preview
Episode I think that qualifies her as the forgotten woman right now
Guys all right
I got a haircut today, and I feel like the guy gave me like the harshest
I was looking at TC like looking at himself there in the image of just like I what's he reading a comment?
What's he doing here? I think it looks good.
Yeah, I feel like it's like a goatee on one side
and then a beard on the other side.
We have to touch that up tonight.
We're gonna see people get hockey down in Melbourne.
Two more here.
Angela Stanford, okay?
Angela Stanford is gonna see her streak
of consecutive majors stop at 98 this week.
Should Angela of Stanford have received an exemption
into this US Women's Open, buying or selling?
I could not be selling this.
I was gonna say, if TC buys this one,
I'm gonna be absolutely stunned.
I'm so tired of hearing about this.
I feel like there's a few people
that have just been banging on this.
Streaks are made to be broken
and you need to earn your way into majors unless you've won a bunch of them. And just because
you played in 98 of them doesn't mean that you get to play in the 99th one. Maybe you should have
played better in the 98th one. To get in, it's a great career, but I feel like 100 is just an
arbitrary number too, right? And she's not like Annika or someone. She's not a past champ. She is missed
the cut the last five times in the US women's open. She won
the Evian in 2018. That's her major championship win. But no,
I, what do you at what point do you stop? Just because it's
close to a round number? Do you have to get her you're
responsible for getting her over that?
I don't know, but come on.
A hundred's cool.
Think about it, a hundred,
five a year, 20 years playing all five.
That's pretty remarkable.
But the remarkable part is qualifying for that, right?
The remarkable, that's what's remarkable about it.
Not getting a free exemption into it
is not remarkable into it.
So I'll ride with TC on this one.
It's like playing a bunch of no cut events and then saying,
well, yeah, I made this many cuts in a row.
It's like, well, there's less.
There was again, minus 10,000 odds at TC
in some way was going to make,
I thought you were going to use a JJ Henry exemption
in there. I thought you were going to,
you're going to use this as an opportunity to rant
about PGA tour exemptions.
This is a great opening for you.
Last one, given the news of Lexi's retirement, does Lexi buying or selling? Should Lexi receive
a Solheim Cup captain's pick this fall? I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to
zag a little bit here. I'm buying. Uh, yes, TC. I think, uh don't know, with how she played last go around, I give her a proper sendoff,
even though it sounds like from everything she's saying that she's not really riding
off into the sunset.
She's like, yeah, I'm still going to play.
I'm just not playing a full schedule.
So I feel like some of this might be much to do about nothing.
Who knows?
She might join Liv, all that stuff.
But I think it's an exhibition, like that stuff. But, you know, I think
it's an exhibition, like you've always said, Randy, the Solheim Cup, just like the Ryder Cup,
is an exhibition. Like, Mickelson should play in every single one of them. Like you said, I think,
you know, maybe Lexi should, you know, she's good fodder. If there was 12 names that, like,
were beaten down the door, you could argue no. but I think it as we're sitting here, yes,
if you go to the like the US Solheim Cup points list, there's
literally a pop up video there that like starts with says Thank
you, Lexi, I just went to it. It's a pop up play that's like
trying to try to point you towards Lexi. So has had
success in Solheim cups. I be I'd be surprised if it kind of
has thrived in that team environment. shank aside on the 18th green or 18th hole at the Solheim Cupups, I'd be surprised if, and kind of has thrived in that team environment.
Shank aside on the 18th green or 18th hole at the Solheim Cup, which we're not allowed to talk about,
of course, but you know, I dare you, I do not have to answer that, but I would be surprised
if she was not on that team. Yeah, we should get a course fit for her too. Yeah, right. Yeah, yeah,
I agree. I think I'm buying that one. Those are my topics. What a buy or sell
segment there guys. I appreciate you shopping. Swap me. I want
to give a shout out to our friends at Roeback. Best Fit,
best feel. It is summer. We are living in Roeback. They just
released their American summer collection. It is fantastic.
They got bathing suits now. You can go from a hot day on the
golf course straight to the pool. I'm gonna nominate UTC as a candidate for being the first one to go bathing suit on the golf course to the pool
I think you could I think you pull that off. I did it last year actually
You're down there with your friends the performance poles are moisture wicking they got great stretch the collar is crisp
It doesn't lose its shape. They fit way better than those boxy polos
simply put there the The collar is crisp, it doesn't lose its shape, they fit way better than those boxy polos. Simply put, these are the designs paired with the best feeling polos out there.
The shorts are so comfortable, they're fantastic, both the gym shorts and the golf shorts.
The Looper shorts are fantastic.
Everyday shorts got an elastic waistband for extra comfort.
The Looper shorts have belt loops, it's great to tuck a polo into.
Performance hoodies, what can we say about those?
Our favorite hoodies to wear, the fabric is soft, you can wear
them on the course or just around the house. If you haven't
already time to load up on some row back for yourself and for
others code nlu at rowback.com we'll get you a generous 20% off
your first order through the end of this week that's spelled
rhobck.com 20% off bottoms q zips hoodies and more with code
nlu summer isn't the same without row back. What do you
guys want to do next here you want to do get our picks in you want to talk a little bit some you guys want to do next here?
You want to do it get our picks in you want to talk a little bit
some quotes you want to do a little bit more golf course
stuff. Where we go next?
Let's talk golf course because I think that's a good segue into
quotes. What are some of your most memorable stretches you
think here of the golf course CCR or stuff you're looking
forward to seeing the most?
I think 16 is gonna be up there,
just especially with how they set things up.
I think seven, seeing if they bumped the tee box up there
a little bit.
That par three down the hill, I think it's 13.
Like crazy downhill, creek in front,
bunkers behind, crazy sloped green.
I think the first five holes are really like,
it's five par fours in a row,
but they're all kind of radically different
from one another.
I think there's one that can almost bump up
to being drivable.
There's a couple that are completely, you know,
uphill just grind fests.
So I was saying on the preview yesterday, how much I like it when
a course comes back to the clubhouse before like, like, like aside from nine and 18.
It's great for fans for big events. Right. And so I think, you know, there's kind of this four hole
loop to close things out. And I think that's going to be a really cool thing for the energy level
of the crowds and just knowing where everybody stands and everybody being in a pretty
confined area and roars between different groups that are, you
know, kind of stacked up side by side by side.
Yeah, gosh. Yeah. I mean, it really does just make such a
difference when you have like actual roars and actual depth
of the crowd. Like that's what felt like it was missing, like from ball to straw last year.
They just didn't have the mechanism.
You know, the crowd wasn't really there.
This is PGA. Well, women's PGA, but crowd wasn't the same effect.
And the TV coverage was so sleepy.
It just doesn't like feel nearly as much like a major.
It's like that natural energy that comes from that. So.
Yeah, I think just to just continue on.
And if we want to go into some quotes, I mean, I
thought Nellie had some really interesting stuff to say about the golf course.
I also, I think we might, the USGA Shannon Rulliard, the director of championships for
the USGA, had some good stuff to talk about the course.
Cody, forgive me, I'm not sure if we have those videos
teed up, we can maybe go to those
and then react to them afterwards.
Well, and swinging well, like you have been this year,
what's the key to sustaining that success?
Yeah, I've had Jamie or Brett out here
almost every single week.
The only week that I haven't had someone out
was during Cognizantant and I just didn't really
hit it that well that week.
So making sure that my team is taking time for me as well and coming out and making sure
that we're all dedicated to each other has kind of really been the thing that has changed
this year because every event that I've been to and I've played in that I've had I've been to and I've played in I've had a coach there.
Hey Big I'm just gonna roll all the quotes that we have from Nellie and we can react to them at the
end okay. Okay wonderful. Yeah I know you got a first look at it yesterday we keep hearing it's
a true U.S. Open test what does that mean? Yeah I mean it's gonna test every aspect of your game
it's gonna test all every aspect of just your golf game and even your mental game because you know,
it's a major championship.
You like that, T.C.
You can get ahead of yourself.
Get lost in the moment and you know,
if you make a couple of mistakes here and there,
sometimes it can get away from you,
but it's going to test every aspect of your game
out there this week.
Front Barbara.
Nellie, certainly you call this course a beast.
Tell us why you say
that and are there certain holes that have made an impression on you? I've only
played nine holes. I'll get to play the front nine today. I wanted to
play early in the morning the back nine because the golf courses play different
in the morning versus in the afternoon. Sometimes they get baked out a little
faster and the rough just plays a little different when it's
not dewy and wet in the morning. But it just tests every aspect of your game.
It's tied off the tee. Visually it looks so much shorter than it is. Like there's
bunkers that visually like that you see that you think you're gonna carry that
you end up maybe 10 yards short of. So visually the golf course is tough
and then as well as if you're in the rough
and you miss a fairway,
the greens are very small and very slopey.
So, and the rough is thicker on the greens too.
I think that they've cut the grass around the greens
so that with the false fronts
that it comes all the way down to the back
where it's a little thicker.
So it's just gonna test every part of your game.
That's great.
Good detail there.
That's a great little tournament nugget too.
She's gonna be off 10T to start to play that in the morning.
She's not gonna be playing the front nine in the morning.
Not in the early morning, she'll be probably close to 11 when she flips over
to that side.
So I've honestly never thought of approaching tournaments that way.
That's interesting.
Yeah. I love that.
That first little clip we had not about the course,
but just about Nellie having swing coach out with her pretty much every week this
year, except for the one tournament she didn't win where she kind of scraped it
around on the weekend. It's, it's just, it's,
it's really cool to see her making that type of,
and her team making that type of investment in Nelly, right?
And obviously it's paying dividends with wins this year.
And then, you know, we got into her setup.
So all you mentioned with the going out
and playing in the morning versus the afternoon.
I just love that, you know, one, she says
it's gonna be tough, it's going to be tough. It's going to be mentally tough. It's going to be visually kind of confusing.
I've heard elsewhere. It's very much in a second shot approach test. And then the greens
are sloppy, fast undulating. It's going to, you know, where can you position those approach
shots and who can make some puttsts I'm really looking forward to watching this
tournament can we can we please just just one one more Valhalla dick here
listen to what she just how she described that test and like compare
that to what we saw at Valhalla it's all it was it was a joke I'm sorry to keep
doing it but like, that is literally
that's it. That's the whole thing right there. Like all the
description she is like they were literally saying like,
yeah, you just like hit driver and then it's like between five
and eight iron into like every hole.
There's internal contouring on these on these greens. There's,
you know, like there's the William Flynn kind of bridge out
there. Like I'm getting flashbacks to when we played in
Tom coins event at rolling green.
like I'm getting flashbacks to when we played in Tom coins event at rolling green. Pro it still like give me the golf course.
Give me a, I need to be airlifted out of there. Uh,
nine and 18 look super hard back up towards the clubhouse.
Like he seems like Oakmont.
When we played in that event,
you should have been suspicious that I stayed behind from one of the groups to
film one of your putts, uh, from above above the hole just because you literally couldn't keep it
on the green. And that was the day I hit hit the 14th green in May 8. It was a part three
hit it. I degreen myself twice on that one. But
which it feels like that this is like a point of pride for Philly adjacent clubs and Flynn clubs of like, Hey, we're
like, proper ship. It is a you're getting interrogated
today. It's, it's Officer Gillis.
I need the USJ to lose one for a US women's open. They've lost
the course plenty of time for the bends. I need them to lose
one for a women's that would be
a good job.
Let this superintendent I had a couple members reach now and they're like
yeah like all of our members bitch about just our superintendent just gets this place so
baked out so burned out so fast and if the USG lets him do anything that he wants like
you know he'll he'll more than make up for the winged foot superintendent a few years
back who still hasn't resigned as he should have.
That's right TC.
I will just add quickly, one thing Nellie went on to say,
again, talking about the course, she said,
I'm quoting her, one thing I noticed yesterday
is how long of clubs I had into the holes too.
As a longer player on this tour,
I would say I tend to take advantage of the par fives,
but I think all the par fives are gonna be
three shot holes this week.
She said, it's just gonna be tough.
No matter if you hit it higher, if you're longer,
I feel like the key out here this week
is just hitting it straight.
It doesn't matter if you're short or long.
So I don't know.
I would tend to think if you can hit it longer and higher,
certainly that's a bit of an advantage,
but it sounds like you're not gonna be wanting to hit many approach shots out of the rough. We also you mentioned it you tease it
there we have shane in rooyards rooyards i don't know how to pronounce her last name that is usj
senior director of championships her quotes on the preparation have gone into the golf course from
lancaster course lancaster country club is truly a gem. I was fortunate to be a part
of the 2015 championship and fell in love with the course with my first
encounter. It is truly a big course on a fairly small footprint. Over the course
of the last three years the USGA has developed a very strong partnership with
Lancaster Country Club.
And I wanted to take a moment to really acknowledge
their commitment to the event.
The membership has been playing off of mats
since last October.
And the course has been closed to the membership
since May 13th.
That is unprecedented.
And I think right there just goes to show
how important
this championship is to this club. Now to the golf course. Josh Saunders and his
team have done a fantastic job in preparing this golf course for the
biggest stage in women's golf. The course is in fantastic condition and
we're extremely pleased with where we are in preparation for tomorrow's first round.
Our intent is to bring the architecture to life through our setup plan. And as Mike said, it will be a complete test of golf.
We will test shop making, course management, and the players mental and physical resolve.
Oh, love that.
Full examination.
All right.
Well, let's get into it then.
Let's, let's, let's make some calls.
You get a one fan dual pick of the week.
Of course odds are subject to change, but the one pick you can't do the TC
special where you pick 35 things.
Randy first, what is your, what's your prediction?
What's your pick to happen this week?
I struggled with this one, but I'm gonna go,
I'm gonna go with Gabby Ruffles to top 10.
Excuse me, to top five, to top five.
She is plus 1000.
I'm in on Gabby Ruffles this week, okay?
She's coming off two straight, uh, third place finishes
on the LPGA tour. She's 10th in strokes gained, uh, across all events this year.
She's a former USGA amateur champion.
She just is the type of person that I know we've been beating on, but I
believe she plays her best golf when the conditions get tough. And I think her past experiences in the US AM and she's played in US Opens before.
I just feel like Gabby Ruffles.
Everything I'm reading about the course and the setup and testing the overall game, it
just feels like she is kind of flying under the radar and at her odds for a top five at plus 1000
I really really like that play this week. Rainey. We can make this very very quick. We can make this very easy
I had the same exact pick the same literally same exact one. Yeah, I've your ruffles for a top five
I don't don't have two separate screenshots that Cody showed here. This was not planned
Not scheduled that. I couldn't
believe it was plus 1000. That sounds like such a great pick. So we'll just say the time, echo all
those sentiments. TC, what's your pick? I feel like I've, I've incepted that into your brains.
I think so. You're an influencer. My pick was actually for the Canadian Open, which I think we can get to.
I think one thing that's sticking out on the board to me
is NG Chun plus 2200 for a top five.
She's the champion from 2015 here.
One pick, one pick.
That's the fan duel pick of the week.
Pick of the week.
All right, my pick of the week is Tommy Fleetwood
to win the Canadian Open.
Of course it is. All right. My pick of the week is Tommy Fleetwood to win the Canadian Open.
Of course it is.
Plus 1600. It's a proper design. It's a provincial open. It may be a national open this year
because they're playing in a proper golf course at Hamilton Golf and Country Club. It's a
hairy colt. He did it. He stopped up in Toronto after he worked on worked on splash world. There's just there's all sorts of runoffs
and short grass features around their crown greens. I'm in on this event this week. It's not a great
field. It's basically Tommy and Rory squaring off going head to head. If Tommy wins, I'm officially reinstating the Canadian Open status as a national
open in an official BDE.
And if he doesn't.
And it's not OK.
He will still win the British
if he if he doesn't correct
and Pinehurst, right?
Uh, TBD at Pinehurst will see
saw saw hit might be winning that one.
OK.
And loving there's a lot of good
golf to be watching that one. Okay.
In Ludwig.
There's a lot of good golf to be watching this weekend,
guys, it's already, it's, go ahead, Rainey.
No, I was just gonna say, sorry,
before we get too far away from it,
I wanna go back to what Shannon said
about the membership at Lancaster
and just the sacrifice, right?
Giving up their golf course, playing off mats.
Like that, I just wanna thank them. And part of our excitement
is the venue and the atmosphere. And it sounds like the people in and around Lancaster are all
in on this event. And so that's awesome to hear. Kudos to all of them.
And Philly, generally speaking, they show up for golf tournaments. We're hearing whispers
that the Coil Hollow event next year may be going to Philly Cricket Club. That's unsubstantiated,
but hearing that from a few different people, which I'm rooting for it because it's got
to go there because Coil Hollow has got the PGA next year. So all for that. That would
be freaking awesome.
I think Philly is underserved as far as pro golf goes.
And I think some of these clubs like Lancaster
that probably too short to host a men's major,
that the club has a keen sense of history
and wants to host and is raising their hand.
And like USGA, PGA of America, LPGA keep finding these clubs to host
women's majors at. It makes all the difference in the world for getting people jacked up I think.
Like the atmosphere breeds more enthusiasm. And if you're 40 some minutes into this episode and
live in the Philadelphia area and hadn't thought of going out somehow to this tournament this week, I would strongly suggest it, especially if you've got kids and you know, into the
area and just to see it in person, see up close the golf up close and personal. It's
fantastic.
And for anybody complaining for, you know, last week, I talked about Blandy playing at
JCB and helicoptering up and And I mentioned Leeds and Manchester
and all the British geography people got all over me.
It's in a triangle between Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham,
all that.
I get that Lancaster is not in Philly.
It's Philly adjacent, okay?
It's in like a 90 minute radius, right? Yeah, it says our 47 right now. I
just googled it real quick. It's 445 on a Wednesday after
it's 80. It's 80 miles from from yeah, I think that's Philly
adjacent. I think that's greater Philly. Yeah, I really
Jason, I don't think that's greater Philly. Oh my god, are
we gonna do this again? I, I, I, I.
Is it in the Midwest?
Is it in the Midwest?
I think that's the, that's the real question.
If you're 80 miles.
In the gap.
Period.
If you're 80 miles from Chicago,
is that greater Chicago area?
I don't, I don't think.
DJ's always said I'm from just outside Chicago.
That's not 80 miles.
That is not 80 miles from there.
I could, I bet he's 30 miles from it.
Let's see.
I'll say this.
The only thing is that next year,
obviously Aaron Hills gets tied to Milwaukee.
I think that took us like an hour, a little,
maybe a little over an hour to get out there.
I think you're safe by saying that TC,
but I want to shout out here,
like the run of these US Women's Open venues that we have
this year, obviously, awesome. Next year, Aaron Hills, then Riv, then Inverness, like
Oakmont, Pinehurst, Interlochen, Oakland Hills, LACC, Chicago Golf Club, Marion, Pebble,
Shinnecock, Oakmont. Like it's nuts. It's truly like for sure.
Someone else sent this over as well as like, if you compare the future venues of like the Curt...
Like the women's golf future venues like for Curtis Cup.
Sunningdale in 24, 26 is Bel Air,
30 is National Golf Links.
I'm quickly trying to Google this, but yeah,
the future venues coming up on the women's side
are just insane.
Good on the women's side are just insane. Uh, good on the USDA.
Uh, TC, you want to take us to, uh, NCAAs and then we can move to
wrap here and kick off the week.
Yeah.
I think the, uh, the big takeaway last night, I was watching the, the Auburn.
Was it, uh, Auburn was playing UVA, right?
Uh, UV.
Oh, it's you last night? No, it was OSU. Was it OSU? Buck tech, they beat Buck tech in the semi Auburn.
There was a there was a big TIO thing in the play. It was it was disgusting. But it affected, you know,
Ohio State lost, partly because of the TIO, which was to see. That warmed my heart. So it was a
true Alonzo morning. So yeah, we've got, I haven't looked at it today. I'm assuming
they're starting here soon. But yeah, who you guys got? Auburn or FSU? Talking about
the NOLs.
I'm going to go with Auburn.
They were I'm sure they're favorited here and you know, I like my day to TC.
I'll go I love talking about the Noles.
I'll go Florida State.
Gosh, too much golf.
Too much.
Yeah, the kid Frederick, Cheddar up or he's a Danish kid.
I think heard some really concerning things about his his pre shot
routine and his pace of play. And I did see that the NCAA stroked a kid from UVA yesterday, which
was, which was, that was that warmed my heart. Do we need to talk about Vandy? Did Vandy? Yeah,
we probably do. Are we calling it a choke? Are we with our guy Gordon? Tough matchandy. Yeah, we probably are calling it a choke. Are we with our guy, guy Gordon? Tough match there.
Yeah. The sergeant was up what he's two up with three to play and ends up losing.
It was I think. Yeah, you might have been two up with.
Yeah. To end up losing on the first like three bogeys in a row, basically.
Yeah. Not good. Not good at all.
So, yeah. first like three bogeys in a row basically. Yeah, not good. Not good at all. So yeah, I'm Gordon got clean some stuff up, which he's staying in school another year. He's
certainly can. He's got time.
My favorite tidbit was sorry, real quick. Georgia Tech had won the individual like the
qualifying portion as a team. They beat Illinois, excuse me, Illinois beat Georgia Tech by 31 shots and then Georgia Tech beat them three to two in the quarterfinals.
That's tough. Yeah, if you're looking for upsets, I understand that Sarge kind of laid an egg there,
but I think that tech match like beating Illinois and Illinois does an awesome job with recruiting
and probably going to be one of the best coaches in college golf history. But that was pretty disappointing. Three to one.
UNC kind of laid an egg to do in the match play. Yeah, I think the Georgia Techs, an
interesting program, interesting case study. I'm excited to watch Jackson Coyvon, the kid
from Auburn. He's a he's a bonafide stud
So that should be a good match tonight
tomorrow morning the
the heavyweight stretch is
751 to 835 and again Nellie NASA Hataoka and Megan Kang are in the
813 group the afternoon heavyweight stretch is 136 to 220 p.m. That's Lexi Rose and Minji Lee will be out at
158
Very excited for this
We're gonna have a lot of coverage coming this weekend as well have a live show on Friday night as well as live show Sunday night
Recapping the whole week and so I had to get this week kicked off. Let's go. Yeah
Everybody will be able to pick up Lexi or or not Lexi, jeez, Nelly's back nine yesterday.
But I do want to say one thing.
I want to shout out to Sky Sports because Sky is picking up on like the main Sky Sports
channel tomorrow and they're going to cover all of Nelly's group during her first round.
Not on Sky Sports Golf, not on one of their extra streaming options, like on the main
channel.
It's really, really cool to see. I'm excited
for coverage actually kick off. Probably gonna buy Peacock
because of it.
Got NBC holding out.
That's how the cast NBC they're gonna ruin sky sports at some
point and you're gonna be so pissed.
Feels like they're getting away with a lot over there which or
maybe I just dialed my VPN. Maybe I'll pull Sully's move.
There you go.
Love that.
All right, that's gonna wrap happy hour under an hour.
Here we are.
Are we all picking Nelly officially?
Is that, is anybody?
Why not?
All right.
All four of us picking, no pressure.
No way.
Come back to bite us.
Thank you everyone for tuning in.
Thanks to High Noon, Roback, Fandle, Cody, TC, Randy, everybody watching. We will see
you this weekend. Everybody have a great rest of the week.
Cheers.
Philly show out.
Greater Philly.
