Be the right club. Be the right club today.
That's better than most.
How about in? That is better than most.
Better than most!
Expect anything different? Better than most.
Expect anything different? Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the No Laying Up podcast.
Solid here. We are halfway, officially halfway through the 2024 year.
We got my guy DJ Pye is here. Hello, Pye Man.
Hello, guys. Happy to be with you.
Great weekend here in the upper Midwest.
Thrilled to see your faces. Let's talk some golf.
Neil Schuster is here. Hello, Neil Icarito. How are you?
Greetings, gentlemen. I'm fantastic. Happy July Eve.
I cannot believe it's like we're closer. When this pod comes out,
we're going to be closer to 2025 than we were to 2023.
It's just wild, man. It's wild, man. It's wild.
Every week on the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and around the
world, Titleist Tour reps work with players to make sure they
are dialed into their equipment that includes Cam Davis who won
the Rocket mortgage Sunday with his Pro V1 golf ball and 14
Titleist clubs. Why? Why is this? Why? You may be asking
because it is a crucial component to playing your best
golf. And this is a common misconception about fittings.
Custom fittings are not just for better players.
They're for anyone who wants to play better.
A certified titleless fitter can help any player
at any point in their journey,
find the right clubs to unlock another level of play.
You might think like, hey, I'm hitting all these bad shots.
This isn't really helping my fitting though.
It's exactly what they wanna see.
They wanna see the misses.
They wanna know what your misses are.
They're gonna help you build your equipment
in your game around those misses.
I experienced this recently. I don't know about you, whether
you guys did as well. Your fitter will start to get to know
you and your game, you and your specific needs. And that's what
drives the fitting experience. You'll be learning about what
shots you need, find the right products to produce results and
shoot lower scores. Every club you hit and get fit for will be
the exact club that is ordered. There's no guesswork or hoping
that the recommendation will work out. So if you want
to play your best golf, the first step is simple, go to
Titleist.com and find a Titleist fitter or fitting event near
you. I've learned so much in these fitting sessions. They're
fantastic. They're awesome. My guy Aaron Dill lofted me down two
degrees in my wedges and said never hit a full wedge again the
rest of your life. And it's some of the best advice I've ever
received. And so you can get a lot of these fittings. Trust me
Titles.com, find a Titles fitter new you.
So like, can I throw a little house ad
right on the back end of that?
Because we had on our Nest podcast,
which is for Nest members only,
Neil and Cody talked to one of the big dogs
in the world of title is fitting, JJ van Wiesenbeck.
Neil, I don't think I've told you this in person.
God, I love that pod.
I'm in a big golf phase right now.
I can't get enough. You're in your golf era.
I truly and here in JJ answer all kinds of questions about like, basically, how should
I prepare to get fit was awesome with like, Hey, what should I be nervous? Like, what
are people nervous about? How can you, you know, allay some of those nerves? What should
you tell your fitter? What questions should you have ready to talk about? It was great.
So not only yes, you should get fit. Shout out to the friends,
our friends, a titleist. Also,
I would recommend going to listen to that pod if you're a nest member or if
you're not consider becoming one because it was awesome Neil.
So some good tour stories in there too related to cam young told a couple,
you know, some, some fitting stuff with cam, uh, but go to the, uh,
knowing up.com you go to the nest section in the menu,
you can find the pod there video pod. Uh, but yeah, thank you DJ. Thanks for the knowing up.com. You go to the next section in the menu, you can find the pod there, video pod.
But yeah, thank you, DJ.
Thanks for the shout out.
We'll talk a little bit more about some fitting stuff
as well on the back after this show.
Cameron Davis wins by one shot over Akshay Bhatia
at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Ate Tittakunan running in won the Dow championship team
event.
Marcel Seam won the Italian Open in a playoff over Tom McKibbin.
The US senior open is delayed until Monday due to fog, wind, some, I'm not positive exactly
what it was, but it looked like some weather blowing in there. Max McGreevy, one by one
in Springfield, he locked up his tour card for next year. And Melanie Green becomes the
first American player to win in 28 years at the women's amateur, which is the women's
British amateur
across the pond over at Port Marnock.
That's fantastic.
So some birdies and bogeys from the back nine today.
It was mostly bogeys coming down the stretch.
Yeah, it was.
They were struggling to get in the house, baby.
It was not primo golf, I wouldn't necessarily say.
Cameron Young hit a wayward drive on the par five,
14th hole.
I hit a lot of wayward drives on this day and he would proceed to break his driver by,
he didn't snap it, he just bent it so hard.
They showed that part on the video, like he bent it, he put the head in the ground and
like jammed it so hard that it bent the shaft.
Damaged it, had to take it out of play, had to finish the round with a three wood.
The 14th hole provided the most excitement of the day, I think is fair to say.
Cameron Davis hit a moonshot three wood that was like, I was like, what'd he hit?
I'm like, dude, all right, I guess we're, I guess we can clear this water totally fine.
And it looked like he absolutely flushed it.
It's on the front of the green and rolls back into the water inspired some, some takes as
well about that.
But I got, I'll just say this right now.
I got to throw some, some, some penalty flags on some of the strategy
on this 14th hole.
It did not look like these guys were employing the right strategy.
I don't know, Okshay I think was going for the green and ended up just being a layup
into the skinniest part of the fairway.
A weird like poofy spinner up there that was like 30 yards short, 40 yards short, just really
bad swing but ended up in a great spot.
It was those two shots and then Aaron Rye steps up, pulls driver off the deck,
hits it within a foot of running into the water,
and it skirts all the way up onto the green.
And he ended up actually two putting for, again,
I'm not sure I would recommend that shot ever again,
but it was sick and it looked like it could vault him back
into the tournament, but Cam Davis was able to take advantage
of the par five 17th hole.
And then Akshay, he just needs to par the 18th. He was unable then Okshay, uh, he just needs to par the 18th.
He was unable to birdie the 17th.
He just needs to par the 18th.
He has 32 feet, which is almost literally right on the line.
I think 33 feet is the, uh, tour players average two putts exactly from like 33
feet. So it's like a full on, like, you're not supposed to three putt this.
If you're a tour pro, uh, Okshay leaves at four feet, four inches short and
misses the, the par putt to get into the playoff on the low side.
It was ugly, tough, tough finish, but cam Davis is your rocket mortgage.
A classic, uh, winner.
Yeah.
That Occha putt kind of felt like the classic, like, you know, don't gas this one.
Don't, you know, if it goes in great, but like, let's just, we'll just leave this one
short.
That's fine.
We'll two putt.
We'll get into a play.
Oh my God.
I left it five feet short.
What am I doing? You know, like Neil, there were some some whiffs of, you and I had a match at Detroit Golf Club
a couple of years ago now.
It just awful, awful golf from what I remember.
I had a lot of whiffs of that today
from some of these guys coming down the stretch.
Yeah, it's always fun to watch guys play
at a place you recognize.
The OX shape, I can't believe it was four feet, four inches.
It looked like seven feet.
Like I was like, oh God, that's not,
that's not in the comfy zone at all. And I think it's always hard to feel confident with, when a guy, you know,
with that six footer or four foot putt, um, guy trying to make a playoff and he's using
a broomstick or like a non-traditional putter. It's like in the back of my head, it's hard
for me not to think like, Oh, this guy had some demons. That's the only reason we have
this. Like that part is there for a reason. And so, you know, I, maybe that's
unfair, but you're like, Oh God, that's not what he needs right now. Um, so top point
for Akshay, but only three part of the week and is second bogey of the week. It's like,
is that unfair of me to think that, but I'd be lying if I said, I wasn't thinking that
when he was over that putt of like, Oh man, he's always, yeah,
I forgot he's a broomstick guy. Like this is not going to go well.
But I don't think I don't think Occha is a demon broomstick guy. Like he's always been a good putter. Like that was kind of his thing growing up in junior golf and everything. I think it's kind of, I think it's more of a Bryson situation of like, he's just willing to try different stuff and do gank his stuff and, and, uh, you know, kind of the route that he's chosen towards pro golf. It's, I don't know. I, it's not a Zala Taurus. I
think like Zala Taurus is a bad cop on this.
I think that now I didn't say that take was fair, but I'm, but I'm saying that that's,
that's what I felt when he was over the putt. You know what I'm saying? It's like, I can't
help but think that I do want to go back though. Uh, I mean, classic Sunday of golf, I'm going
to be honest. I fell asleep. Nice little cat nap for daddy
over here on the couch. So I missed the cam young, you know, busting of the driver. So
I'm starting to start looking around for it. Cause I keep hearing the word guy busted his
driver. That was not a busting of the drivers more like a sprained ankle version of the
driver busting, just like tweaked it. You know, it's like, I was a little disappointed
when I went back and watched the replay. I wish he would have gone full on because he was hitting it all over the yard. Like we don't know though.
Like they cut away when it was bent bent over and they never really showed a replay of it as far as
I know. So he may have snapped in half. Like I don't know if he did or not, but it was damaged
beyond repair. Just like the officer Giles's pants. You know what I'm going to, I'm going to say,
I kind of surprised myself at how happy I was for Cam
Davis. I don't know why. Maybe it's just he's been around for a long time now. It's kind
of snuck up on us, I think, how long he's been a very high level player. And I don't
know. I just found myself very, very impressed with him today. Even the shot that went in
the water on 14 still felt like a really, really good shot. I was kind of, he kind of seemed like the only guy
out there that was working it both ways was hitting high shots, hitting low shots, hitting
good wedges. When he put them to the rare occasions, he put himself in trouble. Like
on 18, he got it up and down with, with pretty much no, no drama. I mean, he, he, I think
people forget how good he was last year. He was like a top 30 player in the world last year. It's starting right about this time.
He went on like a really good run, uh, last summer,
the way he closed out his year last year, T 10 T seven T six 40th at the BMW,
which was a small field third T seven T 12. Uh,
those were like his PJ tour finishes last year. He was, he was really,
really solid. I think a lot of that was just cause he's like,
he's kind of above average at everything. Like he just is like a really proper
player, man. And I think, uh, he hasn't been this year. Like, yeah,
he has been that up and through this year. That's why this was kind of surprising,
uh, even in his own words, uh, afterwards. Totally. I think that's one of those,
uh, you know, just kind of snuck up on me, I guess,
cause he's not a player that's ever top of mind.
And we always kind of joke about this with like Rory or, you know, just kind of snuck up on me, I guess, cause he's not a player that's ever top of mind. And we, we always kind of joke about this with like Rory or, you know,
Spieth to a lesser extent. It's like when those guys struggle,
they have to struggle like in very much in the public eye.
And when a guy like Cam Davis is playing great, you're like, Oh wow.
Yeah. Sneaky pick for my master's pool, you know, Cam Davis.
And when he's not playing well, like you forget about him very quickly.
And that's kind of where I was until I saw him up there again today.
And I was like, Oh yeah. Like where's he been? What's he been doing?
And like digging back into it. I mean, he, I think he went,
his driver just kind of became like a liability.
It seems like at the start of this year and 79 82 at the players,
I think he shot 78 at the PGA shot 77 at the U S open. It's just been like,
it's been really bad golf. Uh, and so he talked about it afterwards, like trying to figure out, it clearly seems
like it's a lot of like the mental side of the game. And the first person he credited
was a hypnotherapist he started working with, which is epic. Uh, you know, of course podcast
bump for hypnotherapists. You know, I think they got some good run in the, in the KVV
shakes episode. So I don't know, just to, again, I have no delusions. I know it's not the sexiest win in the history of the
PJ tour. I don't think this is, this is going to bring the two tours together. I don't think
this is going to solve pro golf, but it was a very delightful Sunday afternoon, happy
for cam Davis. Seems like a very nice guy. And I think he's got a hell of a game.
I think horses for courses are sick. I think that's his two tour wins
are the rocket mortgage classic, both at 18 under par.
I don't honor situation.
Yeah. I don't know.
I don't know why I love it.
You go to just slaves in Detroit, man.
Like I just beats up this love them up there.
This specific golf course for whatever reason,
but it was tough for, I mean,
actually it was kind of starting to get in a little
uncomfy territory there. Like if he'd had three tour wins at age 22 and kind of just
keep leveling up a little bit with each win. I mean, I almost won the signature event last week.
I don't know if this is really a level up from the Valero. I'd have to look at the fields,
I'm sure are probably pretty similar, but I mean, that would have been, you know, three wins in the
last calendar year was just that's he's moving very quickly. This is not a, this is not going to sink. Akshay. I don't think that's all to say.
I mean, he did not have his best stuff today.
Very bad putt on 17 and also two very bad putts on 18. It was,
I hate to call it nerves with somebody that's like closed out to PJ tour
playoffs before. Like,
I don't know if you can necessarily point to like anything in particular on that.
The next guy we would get to, maybe we can point to that,
but feeling for Akshay today,
because it felt like he was about to take
another massive leap.
The PJ Tour notes had a list, Sal.
You mentioned three wins before the age of 23.
You want to hear who's on that list,
at least from the last 40 years.
Young Tom Kim, I know that.
This is the list Akshay would have joined,
and granted, some of the events he's won
are maybe a little different than some of the events. These guys won, but Tiger, Sergio, I'm, I'm fired up that he's, you know, I don't know if arriving in the
game, I'm like, I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm watch him play, love his swing. I mean, I'm fired up that he's, you know, I don't know if arriving is whatever, like
it didn't end well, but like to put himself like that's two weeks of just really, really
good golf over eight days, you know, so it's starting, you're starting to see like it's
becoming a habit.
And I think he talked about it too.
He was like, he's getting more comfortable with being uncomfortable.
And I think these are really good, uh, good reps for him. So I, I find myself rooting for him is what I said
last week. And I feel even stronger about that this week. We have a, I have officially started a Google
sheet. Like I said, I was going to last week, Neil, about, uh, the, the NLU record, like for putting a
claim, putting a claim on things. And we, I said, he's going to win a major. Did you say he's going
to win a major? I forget what your answer was, but I think, I think I had to, right? Yeah. So DJ's got to get on record.
Does OXA win a major? I'm going to say no. Did you guys see that tee shot he hit directly into the
tree? He's through the poofy spinners he's hitting. Like, eh, no thanks. Love it. Oh gosh. Well,
this is a great lesson. Like I don't remember my, what I said last week, truly. So that's why we
have the record. Some guy hit me on Twitter today was like, remember when Neil called Cam Young
electric? It's like, ah, you know, I probably did.
I don't remember doing that though, but I can unpack that take here too.
I mean, I really, yeah, sure. I probably did. That's true.
Yeah. That's, that's, I don't know, man.
I feel like I'm kind of almost like going through the household budget here,
you know, and I'm looking at like, what do we have to spend for the year?
It's June.
What have we spent so far?
We've already given out too many majors.
We need to cut somewhere.
Akshay, I'm sorry.
You're not getting one.
That's going to have a long career.
Going to have a very long career.
I know he and young Tom Kim have a lot of golf in front of him.
Unless his back explodes.
Why don't you go ahead with our next segment here?
Yeah. So I just, I asked you guys, you know, trying to do things a little
differently here, maybe. And I'm just going to have you, you can go one of two ways, right? So
I'm sure you both have two lists in front of you. Things you love to see, things you hate to see.
All right. So I want you to compile this. We're just going to go around the horn until we kind of
run out of topics. I'm going to kick it off and just say things you hate to see. So I believe you were alluding to this earlier, just Cam Young's entire thing today, man.
That's tough, tough, tough, tough, tough. People have turned. Yeah. And it's tough when
the guy gets, I don't know, he's kind of like anointed already and without a victory on the PGA tour and then you kind of look
that way. It's just, it's very joyless. God, shout out to CBS. The extended cut of him
just like dog cussing himself. Just fuck this. Fuck you. Fucking asshole. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
And I'm like, whoa, they're not even like cutting away. Like this is sick. Yeah. It's
just, it was tough to watch, man. Some of that, like that wedge into, uh, uh, was it 15?
Uh, that's like high school golf stuff, man. Just like swinging the wedge 150%
like coming up 30 yard shorts, ripping it off the front. Like, oh,
this is like not close.
Can I give you a sample of the question?
I sent a call out for questions for tonight's show.
This is not all of the cam young questions we got, but this is a sample of them. Parker Taylor too.
Will cam young ever win? I think the answer is no. Eat and sleep golf. Give us the best comp for the,
from the past for cam young's demeanor on the course. I'm struggling to think of one
always seems to look genuinely irritated to be out there at UN underscore Greg. Does Cody
need to apologize for cam young KB sports talk 17 over under 0.5 cam young
career victories at Nick for, uh, for McKellar cam young question mark.
That's the question project RSL.
I've seen enough of Cameron young.
Can we send him to live a Wellington golf is cam young allergic to winning.
That was a sample of the cam young questions that came in.
Nobody who had any kid Davis questions, uh, all about cam young.
Okay. So, and that's, there are so many cam young questions. It clearly shows though that
he, he is a bit of a, I don't know, a magnet, like obviously there's, there's something
about him where everybody thinks he's a bomb threat and like, yeah, is it the eight runner-up
finishes? I think it's something else. So I think it's just like, clearly the guy can
mash like, you know, his combine numbers are off the charts. Like, you know, he projects well as a, as a,
you know, pass rusher. He can't put it all together. You know, his calm might not even be in golf.
Yeah, exactly. From another, there's a total bomb threat and everybody knows it. And so that's why
these questions are rolling in, which is what I think is sweet. It's like, well, clearly you're
all asking this because you think he, he should be a killer.
Yeah. So yeah, I mean, I find that fascinating.
Stake my claim on the like, I'm way in on cam still.
I feel I really like him.
I think he's like, I, I'm I watched the same broadcast today.
I would come to the same conclusion as as many of these people, but I don't know.
There's still something about him that I'm like, I like that he's I don't know, man. I like that he's fired up. I don't really care that he's pissy. I don't know why I put him in that camp. The bad self-talk. How? I mean, God, that's like, Hey bud, I've been there.
You know, like once you step inside in between my ears for around, like that's,
you know, that's not helping. I know it's not helping me. It's not helping you,
but at least it's a little relatable.
I found it funny that he broke his drill. He broke his drill. He broke his drill.
He broke his drill. He broke his funny that he broke his driver. He was
11th this week in strokes, gained off the tee and broke his driver during the final round, like in
still in contention, had a chance to win this tournament still and broke his driver. And maybe
it was a good thing for him because he was maybe better off hitting the three one at that point,
because he was struggling with it today, but then proceeds on the par five 17th, 570 yards into the wind on a soft golf course,
it's two, three, what's onto the grease. F3 putts it of course, as I was.
So he has, so he has a two wood and he, you see it in the video with Cody, the video they did at
LaCosta, but also we're talking to JJ on that nest pod. And he's got it, he kind of tinkers a lot, according to JJ.
He's got a driver that he set up to fade
and he's got this two wood that I believe is 13 degrees
that he set up, sets up to hit a draw with.
So it's kind of like, it's too odd.
It's all, it's kind of like a mini driver it sounded like,
but-
It didn't look like the mini driver club or whatever.
Well, I don't, it's not, it's a,
but it was described as a two wood to me.
That's what, you know, that's what JJ said he built for him.
So I don't know, but it sounds like he's been, you know, he's, he's
fiddled around with a bunch of putters.
I don't know.
He's got, he's had gone through a few different caddies.
Like it seems like there's just kind of a lot going on.
He's got a couple of young kids and I think, you know, a growing family.
So I think he's fascinating dude to watch struggle, honestly, because you are, you're like, he has all the tools
in your head, you're like, hey man,
maybe we find a second serve.
Maybe we don't need to like hit it like 198 ball speed
every time off the tee.
Like the way he lashes at the ball is both awesome,
but also like maybe we need to dial it back a little bit.
I don't know.
Which we did a, we did a driver video
that I'm sure is probably going to come out somewhat soon
at one of the title shoots earlier, I guess maybe even at the end of the season. like maybe we need to dial it back a little bit. I don't know. Which we did a, we did a driver video that I'm sure is probably gonna come out somewhat soon
at one of the title shoots earlier,
I guess maybe even at the end of last year.
And we talked all about that, like exactly that,
like kind of second serve-y, like I'm not, you know,
I don't need to go after, that's been my biggest lesson
on the PGA tour is, you know, like,
I just need to hit more fairways.
It's not all about power and overwhelming golf courses.
And so I have a photo, I'll put it on Instagram
or something, but I'm sure I sent it to you guys,
how high he was teeing his driver for a while.
I don't even know if he's still doing this.
I don't think he is, but it looked like a par three
or something and he's teeing it so low
and still just putting all kinds of ball speed on it
and just was having way more control with it.
So I think he is willing to try a bunch of that stuff.
It's just, I don't know.
I mean, I guess this is a big negative column,
which today was a very negative day.
He also shot 59 last week.
You know, like I don't think he's totally like in the woods,
you know, so it's like, it's such a fun, I'm with you, Neil.
Like it's like, whoa, I want to be along for this ride.
This is fascinating.
Well, clearly he, you know,
I don't think he has any social accounts, which I respect the hell out of
clearly. He probably feels way. Some of these question askers do of like, why am I not winning?
This is bullshit. Like it's clearly bubbling over for him, which I like to see. It's like the guy
wants to like clearly wants to win. And he's yeah, he's been putting himself in contention
the last couple of weeks, at least other than that though, it's been kind of a tough start to the year
for him. It is as much as I am rooting for him and like him,
it is, this must be how you guys felt about Big Tone,
when he would get in contention before winning like 18 times
of just like, yeah, it's not gonna go in.
Like those putts weren't even like close to going in today
and I had no belief that they were gonna go in.
Like it was just like-
Should have broke the putter instead.
The putting does look just, eye test wise,
the putting looks a little mechanical.
You know, it doesn't look comfy.
It's like, it's very stiff.
And that's that I always hate.
I always hate that.
It's like, ah, let's just loosen it up a little bit.
The big tone comp is well noted.
So I mean, I, yeah, that's very fair.
I don't know.
There's something about the dog cussing that I'm like,
at least he's like trying to win.
Big tone was just like, ah, no, please don't.
Take the cameras off me, Please. There's no things.
That might be projecting just a little bit. All right. Let's move on.
So what do you got? Where are you going? Uh, I asked things.
I love to see this little amateur run we've been on has been fun to watch,
particularly miles Russell, a 15 year old kid from here in Jacksonville that,
uh, ended up not making the cut,
but I actually watched a fair amount of the golf on Friday.
He was on a PGA tour live on ESPN.
Plus he had to four under on the day chipped in on the par three on the back
nine. I gave it a serious run and making the cut, didn't end up making it.
But I love like obnoxiously young kids like coming out and like play on the
PGA tour and succeeding and everyone that I've talked to some pros.
I know a pro here,
a long time pro that I caddied for pros, I know a pro here, a
long time pro that I cattyed for him in a qualifier here in Jackson
was when he was 13 and he was like, pull me aside as like, yo, this
kid, like not, not your normal prospect, not your normal, like
young, uh, AJGA player.
Like this is the dude.
Here's the junior junior players champ.
For those that don't know, uh, PJ tour did a video with him and walking
around with Scotty shuffle this year at the players, which was cool, was cool. But I hope he gets a lot more opportunities because he's
fun to follow fun to watch. And also we had Luke Clanton from
FSU finished shot even part A could have had a much better day
today. I finished T 10 this week and Neil Shipley no longer
qualifies as an amateur but somebody who's amateur career we
followed and he finished T 20 this week in his first pro start
as well. So kind of a fun little fun little little jolt in the summer have been some of these amateur
performances.
I think didn't Ben James make the cut too. I don't know if he's still an amateur or not,
but he was on the water. He did. He T 44. Yup. Uh, so UVA guy. Yeah. That's how I was
going to shout out. Uh, you know, kind of on my list as well. Things you love to see
was just the sponsor exemptions at, at rocket mortgage was really sweet. I mean, it was
a lot, all those guys you just mentioned, plus Jackson Coyvan, who's like,
was probably the best freshmen in college golf last year.
Best freshmen won all three of the season long awards. Like he's not getting enough run. I don't
think, but it sounds like he's a stud muffin. And all of those kind of balance out the Duffner and
Jimmy Walker with the other, the other picks. I thought.
I want to throw it to you for one more thing. I like Neil.
I was just up in Charleston this past week and you know, what's in Charleston.
It's row back country, baby. It's row back summer.
And everybody is living in row back up there. You already know, we think they have the best polos and hoodies on the market,
but their everyday shorts are the most versatile shorts on the market.
They have an elastic waistband for extra comfort and fabric ready for any activity.
They have a really clean look. We wear them with an untucked polo on the course
sometimes or with a workout tee. If you don't want to walk around the block, they're
incredible. They're fantastic. They're my favorite pair of shorts to wear on the
house as well. We always talked about how comfortable the Roeback polos are but
the designs are what help make these the best polos on the house as well. We always talked about how comfortable the Robac polos are, but the designs are what help make these
the best polos on the market.
Fresh off a release of really fun golf prints
that are a play on words.
If you're a golfer, these things are for you.
Beyond the hoodies and cue zips,
the Robac Crewnex might be our new favorite item.
The fabric is buttery soft.
It's got perfect stretch.
Can be dressed up or dressed down.
You can wear them over a polo for a nice slicker
or with joggers for a relaxed fit.
And again, as soon as you feel the fabric on this,
you're gonna know exactly what we're talking about.
If you haven't already, time to load up on some row back
both for yourself and for others, code NLU at rowback.com
for a generous 20% off your first order
through the end of this week.
That's R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com, 20% off bottoms, Q-zips,
hoodies and more with code NLU.
Summer isn't the same without Robeck.
So sorry, Neil.
I just got really excited for another thing.
I love this.
I always love to shout out our friends at Robeck and I'm going
to shout out the Blitz Tech tees and just the t-shirts.
I've been living in those.
So one other note there.
All right.
I'm going to go with things you'll like to see.
Let's start it off.
Kind of in the amateur realm here,
a union home mortgages, getting some ambush marketing at the rocket mortgage classic, Luke Clanton, having the union home mortgages had on double.
I mean, what a, what a coup for, for union home mortgages.
Just get like, Oh my God, he's in contention.
I mean, just dancing all over rocket mortgage.
That's I love it when the mortgage rivalries ramp up at these golf tournaments. Unbelievable stuff. You love to see.
I want union home mortgages to swoop in and like exceed the donation from the 313 challenge as
well, just to absolutely stunt on rocket mortgage even harder. God, no, why don't we say we can
go. I'm going to say things you hate to see how stingy rocket mortgaging with the 313 challenge.
It's unbelievable.
It's, they're trying to solve the digital divide.
And Deid, you said it best.
It's like 1500 bucks for a birdie, like for 2,500 bucks, $10,000 for a hole in one.
You know how hard it is to make a hole in one.
And you're like, that's going to buy like 15 iPads.
This is bullshit. Digital divide. Come on. I think the digital divide is a little bigger than that guy dumbest.
And then I think they bring the guy to the booth to talk about it. Like they're it's like they're
super proud of it. It's like, well, guys, if we're going to pour all this gas on this 313
challenge, like let's at least make it interesting. It's just a bad it's a bad contrast when we're
paying these golfers like when the purse is $10 million and you're throwing 10 K for a hole in one, it just doesn't feel right to me.
So, so that's the, that's in my, at the top of my things. You hate to see column.
I kind of want to put, I want to, we don't have to, you know, nail all the nuts and bolts down
right now, but I think it would only be fitting. I would love to get you guys on the record for a
four one four challenge for me up in Milwaukee here. The four one four, of course, if I make I'm going to be a little bit more, I'm going to be a little bit more, I'm going to be a little bit more, I'm going to be a little bit more, I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more,
I'm going to be a little bit more, I'm going to be a little bit more, I'm going to be a little bit more, I'm going the true PGA tour fashion. We're going to reach out to some of our sponsors to pay for that,
but we will, you can put us on the record for that.
The two one two or where are you? Well, I'm it's,
I would say the New Jersey and the 908, which is the name of our local union,
the international brotherhood of dishwashers, my brothers in law and I,
so I'd have to make it the 908, but it's kind of hard to have a zero.
I just have to opt out of a hole. I guess. I think it's just don't finish but it's kind of hard to have a zero. I just have to opt out of a hole. I guess I think it's just don't finish.
We make it nine. You make a zero.
Total play next all and make an eight.
I think that I think the people of Manhattan would embrace you with the two one,
too. You know, man, that's tough.
That's a big ask. Yeah, exactly.
All right. I will go.
I thought it's a snake. I thought we're staying.
Sorry. You're right. You're right. You're right. Sorry snake. I thought we're snake. I'm sorry.
You're right.
You're right.
You're right.
Sorry.
Things I hate to see.
It had so much upside.
The impact was immediate on the entire golf world.
Came out of the gates so freaking hot with 6 million views the very first week that Live
Golf, King Abdullah Economic City debuted on Caffeine TV.
With ratings that are bigger than like Thursday and Friday from the Masters. They couldn't make the business model work
and caffeine TV has had to shut down. And I mean, that's where 99.9% of the live golf
views were coming from. So I don't know how they continue on after this. But it really
is a tough scene. And I was, you know, one of was one of the six million strong that were watching
it live on Caffeine TV, that event.
They couldn't make the business work, unfortunately.
So hate to see it.
That's tough.
They should have gotten harder on cough and flop and some of the other alternative programming.
I will say, you know what?
Things you love to see.
This one got a ton of run, of course, on the front end of
the week. But you know, I have, what wasn't on Twitter a bunch this week, so I kind of
missed it and caught up later, but, uh, the whole Nick Benz Monday qualifier story was
great. Guy works part time almost full time at a, at a golf galaxy, just kind of funding
his, uh, you know, his habit and picking his spots and where he's going to play pro golf
gets through the pre-qualifier, uh, thinks he gets through the Monday qualifier has a couple beers because he's just like so nervous
ends up getting into a playoff after that still gets through and you know plays plays on the PGA
tour shoots 75 75 ends up missing the cut this weekend but fun story golf galaxy got involved
stood up a little quick sponsorship for him uh Ryan French, Monday Q info had a bunch of stuff all over that. So that was, you know,
that's just stuff that makes you feel good. Fun story.
You do love to see that. You want to stay back teach?
Uh, sure. All right. Well, all of kind of a tough vibe change here, but I'll say things you hate
to see. I'm going to say Aaron rise whole deal, man. Thank you. I don't like,
I don't know why it's hard to, hard to have a take these days in the year of our Lord
2024. I know you're going to get the immediate blowback. I'm sure he's a great guy. I'm
sure he has a great story. I'm sure he's got people around him that absolutely love him.
I would love to meet him someday. I'm sure he's awesome. Just the whole golf aesthetic
is just, is not for me.
And it even goes beyond the double rain gloves, which I even forgot about.
Like, I don't even care about those anymore.
I stopped caring about those a couple of years ago.
Just looks like he learned like he like learned how to play golf out of like an instructional
book or something.
He's just he's so rigid.
He's constantly like clearly trying to get in like you know what it feels like I was
thinking about was solid.
I know you've done this like when you put the like 3d motion capture suit on and you're just
trying to have like, you're like exaggerating and like trying to make the positions look as good as
possible. That's kind of what it always feels like every, every time he swings the putting stroke,
he's keeping his head down like way too long. It was the balls halfway to the hole. It just,
it's like every little idiosyncrasy that
you see from like the, you know, the guy at your club is just like a, like a practice maniac,
you know, and then like goes out and shoots 86. Like it's like, that's the vibe that I'm,
I'm getting from him. And I guess the flip side of that is like, he just looks like he like
completely maximized every, every ounce of talent he has through all of these things. And I'm sure
mental game has a lot to do with that. I'm sure the process has a lot to do with that and just a lot of the repeatability, but just no thanks. That that's the opposite of the, the aesthetic that I'm,
I'm looking for.
I'm glad you said it. Not me, but I feel the same way. And I should,
I'm sure he's a delightful guy for another great things about him, but it's,
so the driver off the deck was unbelievable. I almost took it out of my notes after
that. But I, but I did, I would be wrong for me to do that.
Things you love to do.
I love to do. I love to do. I love to do. I love was unbelievable. I was out of character. I almost took it out of my notes after that.
But I did. I would be wrong for me to do that.
Things you love to see the US senior open this past week at Newport
commercial free, presented commercial free by our friends at NBC.
A member of the club, Mr.
Sam Flood from NBC as well, is in charge of presenting the event commercial free.
I just think that's a wonderful thing for golf fans at his club. Got to be on display with no interruptions
this past weekend. And it has a Monday finish. The whole weekend. That's what I've heard. I did not
watch. Listen, I was not available to watch it, but I've gotten reports that it was presented
commercial free, at least for large periods of it. I was told it's the whole thing, but I don't know
that to be true. But you love to see that. It's great. All right. I was told it's the whole thing, but I don't know that to be true.
You'd love to see that. It's great. It's gonna happen. I'm gonna hit you with something you love to see. I actually really liked Akshay's response
demeanor, like the way he handled missing that putt, what is clearly just a tidal wave of
disappointment and frustration. I thought he kind of swallowed his emotions really, really well.
And then at the very
end, when he was in the scores tent, you catch this glimpse of him just aggressively throwing,
like just ripping a pencil at the trash can as right as they cut away to go to the Manda with
Cam Davis. And I was like, Oh yeah. So it's like, it was the perfect amount of like, I'm not going
to freak out. I'm not going to freak out, you know, until like, he's going to freak out later. And I don't know, I just thought
that was a very young guy to kind of wear that one. Like that
was, that was really tough to three putt there. And I thought
he handled it like, you know, pretty, pretty maturely, I guess.
So I like seeing that.
You guys tell me on this front, it's got to be easier for him to
swallow having already won twice and once this year.
Now that got him into the Masters already. So, but he's 29th in the world. He's going to move up
this week. He's in, got to be in great shape. What is he? He's 11th right now in the FedEx Cup,
great shape to qualify for the tour championship. Also like going to be back in the Masters next
year. If you're top 30 in the FedEx Cup, you're back in the Masters or if you're top 30 in the,
or top 50 in the OWG, are you make it back in the Masters? Like you're top 30 in the, or top 50 in the OWGR, you make it back in the Masters.
Like it'd be really hard if he wasn't gonna be in
to miss that and to miss out on the playoff
and not get the win.
But so it does soften the blow just a little bit,
but I'm sure you still feel those emotions,
but at least like it's not a devastating sinking of a.
I mean, just such a frustrating way to like,
to lose it though.
It's like, it's not like he
missed an up and down. It's like, he hit a great drive. He hit a great second shot and then he just
had a, it's just a bad, bad three putt, which is the most like frustrating thing for any golfer.
Did you take, Oh, that was so unnecessary. Why did you know? So I think it's almost maybe the
disappointment and frustration is going to be like a little bit of a delay. Like I bet when he
lays down and I just sleep, he's gonna be like,, what the fuck man? Like God, that's so brutal. You know, that, that one might
stick with it. I hope it doesn't create any scar tissue. I hate that. So anyway, but I
thought he was, he handled himself well afterwards. I think it's worth shouting out. Classic.
All right. Let me snake it back to you. Let's see here. You know, things you hate to see, I, Will's Al Taurus WD, I kind of want, you know,
I kind of want to put this back injury in the rear view. And it seems like we're struggling to do
that. And you're hearing about the injections, like from, you know, the quick hit he did with you,
Sally at the Travelers. And it feels like he started off the Travelers really well. Like he
played pretty good on Thursday here at Rocket Mortgage. It just seems like going for four days
is really a struggle for him right now.
So I'm bummed to see that.
Yeah, that was next on my list too.
I'm with you.
It's a bad, like, man, I'm sick of watching this show.
Can we please watch something else?
Let's move on.
I'm done with this.
And that's just not how back injuries tend to go,
which is why you get so spooked out about them.
I'll go with just a very easy one. Good things you love to see. I think having an event in Detroit
is great. We don't have enough PGA Tour Golf here in the Midwest. Great people, great weather.
I wouldn't say I'm the biggest Dan Gilbert fan in the world, but I like when the premier hometown company turns out for something like this.
Just, I know it's not like the best possible showcase
of the world of professional golf,
but I still think it's a W that this event exists.
And it seemed like a good turnout.
And I don't know, this event weirdly like is easy to shit on,
but I also think it's a net positive.
Just recognizing the tier that it's in
and frame it that way.
It's like, that's a totally fine event.
Like a totally fine Sunday event.
Like you don't need to watch it Thursday through Saturday,
but like, was the back nine entertaining?
It usually, usually is.
And it exists, the people do show out there.
So I'll agree with you on that one.
Also love to see the Italian open finish was fantastic.
And this grandstand they had behind the 18th green,
like honestly, you like walk down the stairs
off one of the hostiles, you're like on the fringe.
Like it was the closest I've ever seen a green.
The pin today on 18, legitimately it was about a,
looked like it was a pace and a half
from the front left of the green.
It looked like a green's keepers revenge pin.
Marcel Seam won that as we mentioned in a playoff, but I watched the highlights back on that this afternoon. It was, it looked like a rock,
a really fun time. You gotta imagine that like the, you know, bleacher vendor, like just started
putting them up and someone came out and was like, Hey, those are too close. You want us,
well, you want us to move them? Nah, just leave it. It's all right. Also too late now. Solid,
just, just punch in on that little bit. You know, KVV had that whole'm thinking about is the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the's like minor leagues compared to like guys like 42, 43.
She's probably been a tour pro for, you know, whatever 25 years. And he just is like,
just doing it every week. Ebs and flows highs and like extreme lows. Remember watching him at the
Italian open last year. He was just like falling apart in front of us. It's like, God, that you
got to go to the next week after this. Like that sucks. And he goes and wins the same event. Yeah. It comes back and bounces back. It's
just a, I don't know. There's a, there's a cool circle of pro golf filled with, with
guys like that, that are worth shouting out every now and again,
as a reward for the people that are watching on YouTube. Like again, this was the, this
was the third round image of how close this hospital, I mean, it's there within 25 feet
of the hole. Steve Arnman set up.
It's very sick, but that's all I have from my list.
I got one more. It's kind of related to Detroit, but when I see Detroit golf club, I just think of Gus Johnson and his little dog, uh,
that member out there when we filmed Taurus sauce up there,
I just will never forget Gus Johnson rolled through the bar with the dog.
And I, I just, I, that things you'll like to not see, but think about is just that,
that whole thing is great.
Last, last one I had on my list, just cause I hope it pops up again was I dug
Luke Clinton's dad's whole aesthetic, you know, in contrast to, to Erin Rye.
I dug the, like the feathered blonde hair and like the short visor that was
like pulled out over his ears.
He had the Benox around the corner like the short visor that was like pulled
out over his ears. He had the Benox around the corner. It was just, that was, that was
good stuff. They had the vest like zipped up all the way to like almost like above his
chin like TC likes to wear. He looked like, it looked like I think him and TC need to
start doing some, some bone fishing down in South Florida or something. I really liked
his vibe. On further men's golf news, Seth Waugh, I guess this would be technically men's and women's golf,
but Seth Waugh stepping down as the CEO of the PGA of America. Somewhat of a surprise. I think
we'd heard rumblings about it earlier in the week, but this was not really on my radar that this was
going to be happening this summer. I sat with it, I thought about it a little bit this week. I don't
really have a strong take as to what this represents or what it means. I thought about a little bit this week. I don't really have
a strong take as to what this represents or what it means. I'm curious if you guys have
any strong reactions to Seth Wall stepping down.
I think the only thing for me is just, and granted we have to either have more information
come out or do more reporting or whatever, but it just seems like very universally liked
within the world of golf. And this does not have any whiffs to me of like a force out for any reason.
Like it just seems like someone that everybody would love to have involved in pretty much everything,
wildly popular, like within the game. So I don't know if it's something personal or what's going on,
but just kind of a bummer. I don't know. I always really enjoyed seeing him, enjoyed talking to him. He was always very great to us, giving us time and answering our questions and getting
to know him a very, very, very small amount. But yeah, just a bummer, man. I think he was like
somebody who kind of came in from outside the golf world. He wasn't a lifelong golf bureaucrat.
He had a past life, which I'm sure people have some strong opinions on,
and he could either do some more reading or not into his world as leading the world of a high
power bank. But I think it's interesting when someone like that does step into one of these
golf organizations and probably runs it a little differently. And I don't know, like I said,
everybody just seemed to really speak highly of him.
And so I hope all is well.
And you know, I think it was a net again,
just a massive net positive having him around
and kind of leaves a pretty big hole, I would think.
Yeah, I think, I mean, Pete Pavok was run
as the head of the PGA of America was short-lived.
If I remember, I don't know the exact timeline,
but you know, he didn't have much of a,
he didn't have the same impact.
I feel like the wall has had on the role.
And like just having Waa and WaaN
be like the adults in the room
as a head of these two organizations
where when like it was Mike Davis and Ted Bishop
not that long ago was,
I mean, it just felt like we were kind of really trending
in a great direction.
My only other like thought I had here was I told the set this directly to like I did not agree obviously with
his takes on the distance debate and his stance on that. And that was, I don't know if that if him
being out is would change the position of the PGA of America on any potential rollbacks or anything
like that. But that was the one thing that came to mind that I thought was disappointing
in terms of their stance and statement on that
and kind of aligning with the PGA tour on that
over the USGA and RNA was just the only step
that I feel like he's taken that I had a strong reaction to
that I did not agree with or was not indifferent to.
I would just, the only thing I'd add is just a shout out. I
think it was a, he felt like a steady hand and like he's an
adult in the room. And I don't know, he's just kind of, yeah,
he's got an interesting vibe to him. It's a mix of it's like a
non, I don't know, the Bob Baffert look that Ashley
Schaeffer, like, I just think he's, he's a, you know, he kind
of makes me laugh, you know, and in a good way,
like not in like, oh, this guy's a, you know, a,
a very real person. He's a real person.
He felt he strikes me as very competent in any conversation
I've had with him. And I feel like he,
he's leaving the PGA of America new headquarters,
like some of that stuff, like when you look at like
athletic directors and stuff, it's like,
can you get something built? Like that's always like,
going to be on the resume of like, yeah,
we're going to Frisco. Like That's a big move for the PGA
of America. So I think he left the organization better than he
found it is, I guess, how it's summed up.
I would agree with that, definitely. Bizarre story this
week about the stance the Dutch, I guess their Olympic committee,
I hope I'm phrasing it right, has taken in terms of Joost
Louten was the number, the Dutch have a rule that players must be either
top 100 in the world or top 36 in the Olympics ranking to compete in their sport.
Through the actual golf competition qualifications for the Olympics, Jos Lauten qualified for
it and Van Dam is allowed to compete because there's a carve out if he finished top eight
in a tournament with a strong field and she finished second at the Spanish Open, she gets
to compete, but Jos Lauten will not be allowed to compete
in the Olympics despite qualifying for it through the Olympic criteria, but didn't qualify
through his own country's criteria.
Yeah. I don't really know what to say about this one. So I think we're going to have to
go to our Dutch correspondent. You know, you need to make sense. You need to tell us what's
going on here. What is this? Is this just like a, are they trying to crack down on waste or is there a big like, why is the government sending these like feeble athletes?
We should be spending that money on healthcare and infrastructure instead. What the hell was,
what's going on? The only thing I could think of is the Dutch have this phrase about like,
I forget what it, I definitely forget what it is in Dutch and I won't translate it
very well. But like, basically, like the plants that grow too
tall, like if you grow too tall, like you get your head cut off,
you get cut off to fall in line with everybody else. But I don't
know if that necessarily applies here. But it just doesn't seem
like a cultural, necessarily a cultural thing. I'm like, Oh,
yeah, that sounds pretty Dutch to me. They're proud of the
country. They're proud of like their Olympic records and speed skating and a lot of stuff like that. I'm like, oh yeah, that sounds pretty Dutch to me. They're proud of the country. They're proud of their Olympic records and speed skating and a lot of
stuff like that. I was very surprised. They're just saying like, no, we're not going to send you to
the Olympics. The part that doesn't make sense is, and this has been pointed out by several people
this week, is like Rory Sabatini and CT Pan won medals at the last Olympics. They were ranked like
180th and whatever in the world, not in the top 100 in the world. And they won medals for their country and the sport.
And like that could have massive impacts.
I doubt.
Oh, I don't know if Slovakian golf is like thriving after that,
but it could have an impact.
Right. It hurt.
Way down the road.
Down the road.
So I don't know why you wouldn't want, you know, these athletes that are
representing your country around the world in the sport as it is,
not on the biggest stage representing you guys.
But that's a, that's a sick take. He was loud. He's a little too big for his britches, man. representing your country around the world in the sport as it is not on the biggest stage representing you guys. But, uh,
that's a, that's a sick take. He was loud.
He's a little too big for his britches, man.
Cut this, cut this, this bitch down to size.
Uh, we, uh, Frank Bensall made a back to back aces at the U S senior open,
uh, which was absolutely sick. I don't know if that'll ever ever be matched ever.
It definitely will never be broken.
I think it's fair to say maybe at the top
of the rock champion store event,
but on the par three course,
but they back to back cases in the US senior open
proceeded to bogey the next four holes after that,
which was also fantastic.
But the odds of that were 67 million to one,
which honestly seems like it'd be higher than that.
I think those are the odds of making two aces in one round. Got it. Okay.
Like the odds of making two aces back to back were not even calculated by, uh,
by the article that I,
yeah, because there's only probably like a handful of courses where you can do
it. Yeah. Yeah. Maybe that's a challenge for the rest of this year.
That's sick. Unreal.
She's want to give a shout out to our friends at Pinehurst for 125 years. Pinehurst Resort has been the
home of American golf yet there's never been a better time
to be there. The championship legacy of Donna Ross's
masterpiece, Pinehurst number two, endures as the US opens
first anchor site with five US Open scheduled to return over
the next two decades. Did you guys like the last one? Huh?
Did we like the last one? We're gonna love coming back to
Pinehurst a little bit more frequently.
Gil Hansa's redesigned Pinehurst number four or number six, home of the first US adaptive
open.
And those are just three of the nine championship golf courses to experience at Pinehurst.
And after testing your game there, you can grab a few wedges, enjoy a loop at the cradle.
Our 789 yard short course that's been hailed as the most fun 10 acres in golf.
And off the course, you can indulge in an array of craft
beers brewed on site at Pinehurst Brewing Company or
relax with your buddies the stylish North and South Bar.
Pinehurst continues to evolve making it much more than a
bucket list destination but a place to return again and again
go to pinehurst.com now to plan your visit there.
God, the North and South Bar so good.
And they also have Pinehurst number 10 now,
which is very, very cool as well.
Just truly in the ad copy, you can't list off all the things
that they're either renovating or adding
or the offerings they already have.
They've got to keep a rotation going because it's
frickin' amazing place.
So this was an odd one that came out this week.
Chambers Bay potentially in talks to host a live golf event.
There's a story according to the Tacoma News Tribune,
executives from Pierce County.
So they expect to talk with Liv over the next few weeks.
The courses intend to be a tourism driver
for Pierce County with major venues,
largely locked up for the foreseeable future.
Chambers is looking for other ways to remain visible.
They're also hosting 2027 US Junior and 2033 US am what's your reaction to a potential live event at
chambers? I think it's I think it's really smart by live
same similar with Nashville. Like that's a that's a market
that would show up and show out for any type of pro golf they
can get. And I think this is exactly in the US is the
strategy that I think live should be taking. And I think
chambers Yeah, they I don't want to say they've been shunned,
but like, you know, everybody's like, all the U S open didn't go well there.
It's like, well, it didn't go well there. Then they've changed the greens.
It's like that part of the country needs more pro golf.
And if the PJ tour is going to ignore it,
then I don't blame them for having a discussion with live.
I think it's a weird connection to make,
but where my mind goes is in my backyard here,
Aaron Hills is like in a very similar situation, right?
Where there are these two golf courses that were not necessarily purpose-built to like
host US Opens, but like it was very, very strong, you know, kind of maybe under the
table handshake agreements.
Like, oh, it looks pretty good in 2017.
If you can get the course done, I don't know.
We got a, we got a spot. And then the open comes and goes. And then you're kind of just
left with this like big, massive championship public facility. And yeah, it's hard to like
keep reminding people that that exists. Right. I mean, I remember, like I always go back.
I reference it all the time to like TC's first experience there was like he had gone to a different planet.
I mean, he was just obsessed, obsessed, obsessed with this place and like, Oh my God.
Yeah.
Like why is everybody not talking about this place all the time?
And it's, you know, we just got done talking about Pinehurst and what it's like when a
US open goes there.
And you know, it's easy for them to kind of like rinse and repeat a little bit every now
five, 10, 12 years to, to kind of say like, Hey are interested in the game. And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game.
And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game.
And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game.
And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game.
And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game.
And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game.
And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game.
And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game.
And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game.
And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game.
And I think it's a good thing to have a lot of people that are interested in the game. And I think it's less USGA for me. It's more, this is where the PGA of America,
it's like, these feel like PGA championship courses.
Totally agree.
They're both public, like both of those that you just named.
Or PGA tour.
Would love to dream scenario,
if I could just blow everything up is like,
you take Pebble out of the West coast,
move that to the tour championship
and then plug the West coast swing whole
with the Chambers Bay event, I think would be awesome.
Chambers in February?
Yeah, maybe that wouldn't work.
I don't know.
We'll think it through.
Yeah, we'll think it through.
I'll say this.
This is what I've called for out of Liv,
is like put something on the table for us.
Like, Bolingbrook in Chicago
is not putting something on the world for the,
you've taken so much off the table for golf,
this is adding something back to it, right?
Like this, Liv Houston does not need to exist. If you guys are gonna exist and you're gonna have Bryce off the table for golf, this is adding something back to it, right? Like this. Liv Houston does not
need to exist. If you guys are if you guys are going to exist
and you're going to have Bryson, you're gonna have go to go to
better golf courses if you want to entertain golf fans. If I
can, I don't think that's the purpose of the league. But this
is something that I would watch like I would I would want to
attend this I would want to see in another event at Chambers
Bay and like, if live golf was about this, about going to these
kind of forgotten destinations, cool golf courses and all that, the
attitude around it, at least for me personally, might be a lot
different. So like I, this would be nothing but a positive. If
we get to watch a golf tournament, Chambers Bay that
we otherwise wouldn't get to watch, that's a positive for
the golf world. So again, do I think it's worth fractioning
the golf world over? I don't, but if you're going to do it
anyways, you might as well go to cool golf courses. So I also
just looked at the weather in Tacoma in February.
I'm going to rescind that take.
Yeah.
That's a bad take.
Uh, we should find another hole.
It's doable.
I would play in February.
You guys would play in February, but it's yeah, maybe, maybe not the best idea.
But yes, I'll, yeah, I agree with everything.
Everything you just said.
Uh, last I had, I don't think this is technically men's pro golf or men's golf.
I made technically it's men's golf, but the game of golf got some run this week.
Climate protests, presidential arguments. I mean, we're having, it's having a moment,
man.
DT and Joe Biden got into it. The most intense back and forth they had all night was arguing
about their handicaps in front of the world. It was a stunner. It
was a shocker. It was weirdly like what's I was thinking about this around 2016 is where
I would point to like, like Twitter as a whole becoming toxic. And I blame politics largely
for that. Like everything and the whole vibe on there just got super hostile around 2016
and the irony of like coming here eight years later, and this
highly charged political moment, like brought it back for one night. The actual politics
made it fucking hilarious. Like all of the memes and all the stuff that was going around
on Thursday night was like one of the most fun Twitter nights I could ever recall having.
I think everyone arrived in the same place of like, dude, what are, what are we doing here? Now we've crossed the, the, but now that we're talking about
golf and six handicaps and this guy, if we about to start world war three and this guy
can't hit it 50 yards,
she's the biggest lie of the night is that you're a six handicap. Just arguing about
being sandbaggers. I mean, you go down a list of things that, you know, talking about having sex with a porn star was just like totally
glazed over. I didn't have sex with a porn star. That just didn't. No,
that doesn't, doesn't get a rise out of me, but no, there's no way you can
beat me in golf is what I'm already going.
And you know what? You both have the morals of alley cats.
I'm going to state that right here.
Can you imagine how bad I would beat the shit out of Joe Biden as a six handicapped straight up? Sorry, Joe, you're not getting any
strokes. We're playing straight up. God, I would beat the hell out of him. I hope so, man. For your
sake. I hope so. And I also want to say, you know, a couple of swing videos of DT going around,
guy fucking gets through. I was at this concert last night during the set break at the goose concert. I was breaking down the swing for my buddies
I was like look at this impact position. It's just
Fantastic. It's crazy. It's really good the whereas elbow is the straight left arm like I mean straight up you gotta hand
It's a DT a fantastic move
It gets the club head square my favorite part might have been the like the clarification, not senior club championships.
These are actual club championships, which he did say I wanted to throw.
You got to hit the ball pretty far to do that.
He also said he said you got to be pretty smart to win a club championship.
I wanted to ask you guys that true or false.
I think that's false. I don't think you have to be very smart to win a club.
I don't think that that's been by by tried and true experience. Probably not. I don't think that's necessarily
the case. But listen, politicians are known to say
anything to each side, you know, maybe maybe not take
everything that came out of both mouths that night as as
gospel be my advice. But on the LPGA tour, I did not get to
watch any of this this weekend. I don't know if you guys did,
but the the team event, the Dow championship at Midland,
Ataya Titskun and Ruining Yin, which kind of seems
like an unfair team, if we're being honest.
They went and won that one as a team event,
similar to the Zurich with alternating rounds
of foursums and four balls.
They won by one over Allie Hewing and Jennifer Kupcho.
Titskun made birdie on the par 3 18th.
More par 3 18th holes, by the way.
The 18th was kind of electric. She had a great, great shot in there, stuffed the pinata and,
and stepped up and, and, uh, you know, kind of turn it on the line, won it for,
run it for the squad. Uh, it was a fun, I was, I was rooting for
LaCarbe Abe, uh, made a run, ended up finishing T8 with Georgia Oboe, her, her partner, uh, some,
some fun teams just worth kind of running down the list, I thought.
Brooke Henderson and Lexi is a fun team. Also T8, Nasahataoka, Jin Yong Ko. Also T8, what else
do we like here? Celine Boudier and Yuka Sasso is a fun kind of dynamic styles there. T17,
Daniel Kang and Lydia Ko is another fun one. That would have been, I mean, that's a pretty electric pairing.
T27.
Alexa Pano and Rose Zhang finished T29.
Aria and Moria, Jutanagarn, T32.
Carlota Saganda and Lynn Grant would have kind of had some high hopes for that, missed
the cut by a mile.
And then Amy Yang, fresh off her major championship, no surprise there. Missed the cut with with Jennifer song, but
cool event. dueling events in Michigan this week, which is
which is kind of fun. Maybe would have loved to see those
spread out a little bit. But you know, what are you gonna do?
Truly? What are you gonna do? We have a little personal golf
check in here. It's it's mid summer. We're again halfway
through the year. How much how much golf you guys been playing? What's the what's the latest on the on the personal golf check in here. It's it's mid summer. We're again halfway through the year. How much how much golf you guys
been playing? What's the what's the latest on the on the
personal golf front? Neil, what's going on with you?
You know, fatherhood's definitely taking a hit to the
practice regimen, as is living in New York City. But I have
played I played in a qualified for a Met Golf Association,
public links championship. I played in I think three weeks
ago, was fired up, I shot a 73 to qualify in the rain, really grindy, uh, you
know, proved myself that I'm a mutter.
So I was fired up about that 36 hole one day championship at
Spook Rock golf course up in New Jersey.
Shout out to them.
One of those courses that it was an awesome, like Parkland Muni
and you could just feel like, uh, you know, when you walk into an establishment,
you feel like the owner cares about it.
That was how I felt at this. Like they had you could just feel like, you know, when you walk into an establishment, you feel like the owner cares about it.
That was how I felt at this.
Like they had like nice flowers and like an old golf bag
that they were using as like a potted plant.
Like just little touches like that,
I got a real kick out of.
And they had the greens like turned up big time.
So I went 79, 82.
I'm writing a piece of Gin and Tonic this week
where I kind of, it's, you know, if you want to get better at
golf, like, put yourself in competitive envelope, you know,
environments where you're hitting cups. And it's, you
know, I learned a lot about my game. And if I think like if I
was to sum it up, like, I have so there's so much low hanging
fruit for me to get better with, like surprise better decision
making, but just like better targets and better. And, you know, like late in that second round,
I was really struggling with getting out of rhythm and like having eight to 10 foot par putts,
like three or four holes in a row. And those don't go in. And then the next tee, you make a
bad decision. It's like that compounding mistake to the next hole. Cause you're trying to play
catch up. That's when it starts to spiral a little bit.
Silver lining, I've had four double bogeys, but I didn't make anything worse than double.
I made a couple of like 12 footers for double, which I was real hyped about.
Like, because I was, you know, pretty proud of myself for not letting one of the guys
I played with, you know, he had a nine on a hole, you know, like, there's no safety
net.
Like you can, you can be like, Oh God, like I, I am in a bad, bad spot here.
And so that's good.
But I think my issue is I need to raise my floor.
Like I need to get rid of those doubles.
And if you'd asked me six months ago, like, why am I not a scratch golfer?
It's because I don't make enough birdies.
That's not the case.
Play with like a 65 year old dude, picked up golf 20 years ago, plays just public golf
around New York shot one under in the first round, just like, you know, kind of homegrown swing. And I'm like, all right, at first it was like,
not embarrassing, but you're like, God, this guy's beating my ass. And I'm hitting it like
50 yards by him. But then it's almost like, it makes you feel good. Afterward, the more I think
about it, the more I'm like, my best golf is ahead of me. If this guy can shoot one under like, oh,
we got a lot of time left to like, figure this
shit out. And so that's what got me kind of jacked up. Like, I
can't wait to play again. This got me into the New York midam
to qualify for that. So I got that in October. So I got some
things on the calendar that I'm working towards. So I'm fired
up about just golf in general right now.
Somebody like that will just teach you what being in control
your golf ball means and looks like. Like Like it doesn't have to be fancy. It
doesn't you don't have to have like the high draw six iron from
205 to like be a really good golfer.
Oh, you don't. And the thing is, I do have that. But you don't I
have an advantage over that guy. If I stop being a moron. Like
he like you saw you and I have talked about this like good golf
is boring. Oh my god, this guy played such a golf. He just had
a million, like 20 to 30 footers for birdie and he, yeah, he rolled in like two or three of them. So,
oh great. That's awesome. You know, like found money, but he was just never out of position.
And it was, it was really fun to watch him. Like now he's 65. The second round didn't go as well.
He got kind of tired, but I mean, the presidential conversation. Yeah. Start the day was fantastic
stuff. So shout out to,
shout out to Harold up in the Bronx. He was an absolute menace.
Pymans, some updates been coming in from you and our,
and our NLU golf game Slack channel.
Yeah, I go, you know what my, my game ebbs and flows, uh, at,
with my, with my enthusiasm, I think, and my, and my schedule, I guess,
realistically. And so Neil, you know,
we kind of talked about this at
various points and we talked about it on the Trap Draw that's coming out this week, but
was like a five-month sprint for the whole team, like starting the year. Just a ton of travel,
a ton of editing, a ton of sales stuff, a ton of just like work, like not on the golf course work
type of stuff. And so it's just, it's hard to sneak out and play quite as much.
You know, you're still playing a little bit, but not really just like, Oh, I have an afternoon.
I'm going to go like bang balls, which I've had the last like two weeks, three weeks.
And it's, it's been revitalizing, man.
I'm finally able to, we have a TPI video that is coming out.
I don't know when at some point it's in the in the edit process right now, but me, Cody and Casey got to go out there and as part
of that just got like some really crucial swing thoughts or swing kind of like guidance
and also just like fitness stuff and stretches and different ways to use the ground or at
least like start using the ground. Turns out
that's a big part of the golf swing. Nobody had ever told me that. So I started implementing
some of that stuff and yeah, we're starting to see some dubs, man.
Went out to, I was very lucky to get an invite out to the Blue Mound Country Club here in
Milwaukee last week. Kind of careered it. Little 73 out there, tasted Joe Biden.
You know, had a great, great day out there.
It was like, it was a true like,
here's where I struggled, Neil.
I, one of my, I think double edged swords
are like the best thing and the worst thing.
Sully, I think this is why I've traditionally played
well against you, although I've kind of dropped off recently.
I very,
I have a big tendency to play to my competition. Sure.
And so if I'm playing with like good players, I tend to keep up, you know,
maybe it's like not wanting to look like a fool or focusing a little harder or
whatever, playing a match, like whatever it is,
when I'm playing with good players, I tend to play better when I'm not, you know,
I just lose any kind of focus or edge and I just play really poorly.
And so it was just not that it was, I mean, it was like a literal $5 NASA, but it was
like just a really good group.
Everybody was playing well and you just kind of get that like upward momentum going where
it's just like, Oh, it's like impossible to make a bogey.
It's just a matter of like whether or not we're going to make birdie and it was just
a really fun day.
So it's been working hard.
You know, we've got been putting some range time.
And hopefully that keeps going throughout the summer here.
Neil, I know that the dad slowdown is coming.
So before September 18, we need to.
You've got to soak in this meaningless competition
while you can.
Exactly right.
I played a meaningless competition myself,
a couple of them actually.
Played a WSGA event out at Washington County Golf Course, of the WSGA golf course. I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course.
I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course.
I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course.
I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course.
I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course.
I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course.
I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course.
I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course.
I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course.
I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course.
I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course. I've been a fan of the WSGA golf course. golf association, if you never have, uh, they probably, it's not like they just have the state AM and the state mid AM and the state
match play. Like they probably have a bunch of like net partner,
one day little like pretty meaningless tournaments,
but they're so freaking fun to get out there and go play. And you know,
you pay whatever a hundred bucks and you get a golf cart and a bucket of balls
and a hot dog and you know, you maybe a towel or something.
And you go out and play 18 holes and see where you stack up and hit cups and do the whole deal. It's just, it's a blast I think it's like, I think it's like, it's like, I think it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like,
it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's still get that kind of, I don't call it meaningless competitions. I think the word low stakes, but meaningful.
It's like it gets you going though. Like I don't know. Anytime there's organized competition,
I kind of live for that stuff. And I think it really, it has added a ton of enjoyment to my,
to golf for me. It's, it's kind of revived it playing in the, you know, like the MGA stuff.
It's just, I don't know. It feels like, uh, it feels worthy in the, you know, like the MGA stuff. It's just, I don't know, it feels like it feels worthy of
your, you know, attention and passion is how I feel about it.
I'd say let us know, you two people let us know in the
comments if you want to see Neil filmed during a tournament round
of golf because multiple I wish I had more hands to raise. Because
I want to see that.
We can do that. You know, I didn't want to show up at the
Publinks though and be like, yo, check it. Like the guy that one shot like 10 under, you know,
like it's like, what's up guys? I show up to gas perilla solo 43rd guys got a camera
crew falling around. That's not the vibe. Do you think I'm good? We're filming it because
I'm really good. No, no, I will give me a, you play it in the gas bill a few times. Give
me a chance to get my, my bearings. Maybe we'll try to do something like the mid amp
and just, yeah, just lean into it. Like, yeah, I'm not going to win guys. Don't worry about
me. We're not filming mine. Cause we think I'm going to win. It's it's to see how you
run the gauntlet, man. Let's see how you, how you do it. Arena shit. Yeah. I, I, I'd
be happy to, I love it. I can't get enough of it. So how's your golf game? I had not played a whole heck of a lot. I actually played my
first round at Tim McQuanna, my home club in three and a half
months last Friday. Wasn't going in with any expectations,
but it was like almost how it goes such a hard reset that I
just went, I went to that round of golf and I literally said,
any other round I play, I'm like, I can tell you where I am
in relation to par at any moment of any round, essentially, unless I'm like 11 or 12 over.
Sometimes I lose track at that point, but I can always tell
exactly where I am. And I went to this round and said, literally
what I'm going to do. I'm going to try to count how many greens
I hit today like I am going to the my goal. The only thing I'm
counting today. It's a zero or one for every single hole and
it's alright. I said I'll get you if you hit a green under
regulation that counts as two like that's what you're going to it's a zero or one for every single hole. And it's, all right, I said, I'll get you if you hit a green under regulation,
that counts as two.
Like that's what you're gonna do.
That just count that.
I was amazed at what that did to my game off the tee.
I stopped kind of mindlessly swinging at shots
and it would just became a, how can we hit,
where can we aim this ball?
And what kind of swing can we put on it
to not be behind a tree in a bunker,
like not be at a spot where I couldn't
get the next shot on the green. And I drove it way better than I normally do. And I hit 16 greens
and hit two under regulation, didn't make a damn thing and shot one under par 71 without even
hitting it good. Like I didn't even like hit it that good. I just was like strategizing the
right way and like had the mindset in the right way. And it was like, it was boring. I honestly
didn't even have fun doing it. Like I, I, I was just like, I was somewhat
bored. I mean, aiming wedges in the middle of the green, honestly, it was almost like
the DJ PI no, no pin challenge, but it was just like, and I, I started to ramp up a little
bit. I played a couple of rounds in Charleston this past weekend. I just played the, this
morning at Yeaman's hall, like starting to ramp up a little bit and just dialing that kind of strategy
and a little bit more like learning a little bit
about when to be aggressive
and like when you can go after something
and blah, blah, blah.
But just get your front number,
get your front pin number and the flag number.
Like stop just gunning the flag and saying,
all right, it's 159, that means nine iron.
Because if it's 135 front 159,
that might not be nine iron because nine might put you past
the pin and you just have to like actually use your brain a little bit in it and dedicate to it.
And man did I had three lip outs today. I missed birdie putts on 10, 11 and 12 all from inside 10
feet. Made a really dumb bogey on the fourth hole. I shot 66 today.
And like, I floated home down 95 from Charleston.
I put the brand new GT3 in the bag, the driver,
and I've very quickly found something with that one.
It might, the fairways out there are wide,
so that might be contributing to how well I drove it
this week, but coming off extremely flush ball flying and
golf for a very, however brief this moment is feels very easy
right now. And as a handicap record, it was a back tease,
but second time in my life, I've shot a back to 66 ever. I've
shot a few from, you know, lower than that from up a T box, but
I've never
got that the kid career today. No wonder we got the personal
golf check-in segment on.
No, this was on the agenda before.
I'm just kidding.
This was DJ's idea.
Boys are kind of dancing all over.
Seth Rayner's great right now.
Yeah, I know.
For real.
I dominate Rayner forces for whatever reason.
I mean, they're not that.
Blue Mountain was very, very soft.
And it was safe.
There was no wind at all.
Like huge greens and huge fairways.
Let me flip it back around.
You know what I did on Friday?
I went out and played a 6.06 AM tea time at
Diker beach here in New York.
It's like there's a
Rainer did that after
Marine park and Diker beach are like the two Brooklyn courses.
Marine parks better.
I've never been to Diker beach though.
And three of my buddies that I've never heard of a six Oh six tee time. That's
incredible. Yeah. And there was a parking lot stacked up. We were the second tee time
off and there was like 15 people trying to, was the first, they were like trying to steal
like the tee, like, you know, they were almost like, Oh, maybe these six Oh six guys aren't
going to show up. It was like, what kind of fending for yourself at the first tee. It was crazy. What was the first tee time? Six Oh
three or how are they? I think it was six minutes increments. And then of course we make the turn
and some single just like jumps in between us. I'm like, Oh, what are they? Let you on.
But I went out with my buddies that are just getting into golf and you know, they kind of,
I was like, I made a joke to one of them. I was like, why don't, you know, I said, Mike, can I get
a look for the tee time? Like what the, you know, he's like, Oh, I didn't think you'd
want to play with me. And my point is, I love that kind of golf of like those, like my buddy,
Mike shot his first time he ever broke a hundred shot 99. I was so fired up to like be there
and like witness it. And then DJ, to your point, sometimes I in a round like that will just, yeah, I'll go shoot a lazy 83. But no, I was like, I
was, I think that early I've shot a 73 and I felt, you know, it's easy course courses
in great shape, not a good golf course, but they keep it like greens were good. I was
pretty impressed with it. And it was kind of fun to see that like spectrum of golf or
like he careered it and I played what, you know, like on a very different level.
That's so much fun to like witness of like, he's so fired up to shoot 99,
you know, and uh, like, yeah, he's like a 28 handicap. It was sick.
It was so much fun to watch.
What was your scouting report on Mike? What does he need to clean up?
Mike needs to learn how to, he's a former football player, former teammate of
mine. He's, he's swinging pretty hard at it.
We just need to dial it.
He's got speed, but we don't need all that speed
at all times.
So, just-
I have a KM Young situation.
Yeah, hitting moon balls everywhere
when we don't need those.
So, and then of course, just the short,
it's so hard to like, you know,
I find that when I play with my buddies
that don't play a lot of golf,
they're always looking for like chipping tips. And, because it's so hard to teach touch to people. Well, yeah, of course it's
like, well, you should probably put this one, but like trying to like, ah, well, you need to have a
half swing here. That doesn't mean half speed. That means like half swing, you know, like, no,
you don't need to take it back on this chip to the top. Like you need to take it back like to like
waist height. And it's just, that doesn't really, I don't know, it's hard for people to understand that concept. I find that the
hardest thing to like, provide some help with. And, but it
seems to be the question I get asked the most when I'm playing
with like someone that's new to the game.
A little something that I've, I don't remember where I picked up
this tip, or if I just was messing around with it, but a
shot I've been working on, I showed I was talking with Luke
Boatwright, who are a member of our NOU community I was playing with this week. And I was I've been working on, I showed I was talking with Luke boat right here, the member of
our NOU community I was playing with this week. And I was I
was telling him about like, if I like a 60 yard shot now, I'll
take like my 58 degree, and I will like, open the face almost
like I'm hitting a flop, like grip it like very open, and
make like a 75 ish yard swing. And like I always pictured if
you would do that, it would flop the shot straight up in the
air. It does not do like if you don't like try to hit a flop just like try to hit a normal shot but with
an open face you can hit like more of a fuller more full wedge and it will not fly nearly as far
and land so much softer without like peeking really high that like it is dialed in my 50 to 70
yard game so much just a simple like opening the face up and hitting shots and I showed it to him. He did it once. He was like, man, I don't know if that,
is that a common technique that people would use?
Maybe that's a very obvious thing, but I I've started doing that.
And it just helped. So I think it's a bit, it's cause I, I,
I kind of picked that up at TPI when we were out there and maybe that's where it
was. Yeah. But it's, it's a bit of a 301 class, you know, I'm like,
especially I'm like, I don't know if I need to be like, no, yeah, open the face, take a massive swing with this wedge.
You know, it's like, I don't think that's, it's harder to do
a half swing is what is my point. I struggle with this safer
thing is just like put it back in your stance and you know,
yeah, trap it like kind of just try to try to hit bump and runs
as much as possible is kind of like where I'm trying to guide
friends of mine that are new to the game. So but Diger Beach, I
love getting a little taste of the New York public golf scene.
It's it it it you know, like is it a hassle and yeah, yeah, is
the pace good? No, none of that. But it's just funny. Like the
kids out there, some kids got like an off road motor scooter
he's just ripping across like, just doing laps around the 12th and 13th fairway.
It was just, it was just a lot going on out there. It was great.
There's probably something to be said for very slow pace and around like that though,
or you're like out with your buddies. You probably don't see as much, you know,
it's like, it's better to be waiting and you know, for social situations.
If you're going to play there, like we like we got around in four and a half hours.
But like if I had the eight o'clock tee time, that's a five and a half hour round.
You know, you can just see, you can almost look back and just see the traffic jams forming behind you.
You're like, oh, I'm glad I'm not back there.
Summer golf is so much easier too.
That's the thing. The ball just goes so much farther in the heat and the humidity of course, and softer
it just it's it's very, very different. Like you just I feel
like golf, maybe it's just a southern thing. But golf courses
need a winner in a summer rating. Because like, game it's
all in the winter would be like, maybe five shots harder than it
is probably in the summer, like my home course way, way easier
in the summer than it is in the winter. But my handicap does the same cycle every year. I end up at one in the winter and then I end up
at plus one or plus two in the summer. It's bizarre. I don't like how that works.
What did the 66 do to your handicap?
It bumped me. I think it's projecting me for plus 1.3 from I think I was a 0.0 or zero. Maybe I was plus 0.4. I think so I'm coming up. I got eight.
My goal in the trap draw this year was to hit have 10 under par rounds in 2024. I've got
eight at the halfway point, but it's pretty good, man. That's awesome. I'm not going to
get to my 85 rounds. I can promise you that.
You're at a six with Sleepy Joe?
6.2. Yeah. I, that's, Diker beach 73 got me down from 3.3 to 2.9. What's the lowest you've been?
1.7 is the lowest I've ever been. Yeah. I thought you got lower than that. No. And that's what's frustrating.
It's like, yeah, it's in there, man. Like we just gotta, you should be, I'm a bit of an unstable compound like Minmoo Lee. You just, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, you need to be, it's in there, man. Like we just gotta, I'm a bit of an unstable compound
like Minmoo Lee.
You need to get more out of your good rounds.
Like that-
Yes, a hundred percent.
Like that, I wouldn't worry about your high, you know,
low floor or whatever as much as like-
But here's the worry, Sully, I don't have a round,
I played probably 20, 25 rounds this year.
I have literally one round without a double bogey. And that
was on Friday. That's the first round of the year. I haven't
had a double that's fucking disgraceful in my like, like,
and that's why I'm saying even the good days. It's like, I'm
just good for a squirrely one. And then I found the
mistake shots. Not all t shots. But a lot of times probably the
majority of them is just like, yeah, bad club or really bad
swing. Like that's going to
happen. I just, I don't know. It's like, um, uh, the doubles,
that's what holds it back to good rounds too. It's like, oh,
yeah, I made four birdies today, but I still had that double. So
that's going to be a 74. Cool. So I don't know. I, I, I got
some plans to work on a video later this year on course
management stuff. So we're, we're, we're getting in the lab
more to come on that because I am committed to like, let's stop being a moron is kind
of a commitment I'm making myself that we have to change our entire
business model of our video.
It might be a tragic news for a lot of people out there.
Did you guys do your driver fittings?
Yes.
It's awesome.
Love drivers.
Come.
Is there a driver come yet?
No, not yet.
No, not yet. I think tomorrow
or Tuesday. I'm very fired up though. Like my guy Lucas and I were in the lab. But I would say that
like what I did, I came with like, Hey man, I like almost gave him like my self diagnosis.
And then it's nice to check in with the fitter. I'm like, yeah, actually what you're seeing,
I was like, I'm not hitting the ball high enough off the tee. It just doesn't. And he was like, you're
exactly right. Your launch, you know, launching was like five,
we got to get it up closer to 10. And then it's a vicious
cycle for me where I wasn't hitting high enough with my
current driver. So then you're trying to lift it. I was trying
to like manipulate the club and do things with like the
position of the ball to get the ball in the air more, which was
like leading to bat like more spinny swings. And, and
then it was like, Oh, well, let's just like tweak the
equipment. And it's like, Oh, that's a lot. Now I don't have
to try the balls just kind of jumping. And you're like, that
puts you at ease when you're standing over it. So the fitting
is a good check in. It's not a lesson, but it's almost a good
check in on your game. You start starts to show me like where the
bad habits are forming, because I'm subconscious a lesson, but it's almost a good checking on your game. It starts to show me like where the bad habits are for me because I'm subconsciously trying
to do stuff to manipulate the golf ball.
Cause I don't like the way it's coming out, you know, in certain ways.
So anyway,
I think we're all probably on the tail end of like the last generation of like before
like really intense club fitting as well.
Neil where I'm with you, where it's just like, Oh man, I've had one driver for, you know, I'm not going to blame the cool. I'm going to make it work. I'm just going to keep figuring it out with my swing. And I, now exactly what you just said, like, no, just keep your swing.
Like keep that. That's the constant. We can change the equipment to do
whatever you want is a pretty radical thought to me still.
And it was again, proven true at the, at the fitting.
Also, I like, I posted some, some, uh, track man stuff on my,
on my Instagram of like, here's the track man.
I'm like, I'm going four miles an hour come from? I'm like, no, they were like, they were 60 seconds apart. One was the old driver and one is the new driver.
Like that's, that's all.
There was no fitness thing.
There's no like, like that's just what it was.
So I was like, I'm not going to do that.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it.
I'm just going to do it. I'm just going to do it. I'm just going to do it. I'm just going to do it. I'm just going no, they were like, they were 60 seconds apart. One was the old driver and one is the new driver.
Like that's, that's all.
There was no fitness thing.
There's no like, like that's just what it was that that's,
it's that much faster.
Just crazy.
Mine was interested.
Like I'd struggled with left misses for quite some time.
And I was really not getting enough spin on the ball.
And the way he was explaining to me,
like how kind of like a bike that doesn't have enough speed how fast the ball can like wobble
off its axis when you're not getting enough spin on it like
that's what was causing the ball to like dive off to the left
when I'm spinning it at 1500 rpm. So it's just not enough. So
get me back in a more natural spin profile and watching the
ball shoot up in the I'm an 11 degree driver now. And watching
it like shoot straight up in the air and fly way straighter and
not like trying
to dive either way was like, Whoa, and I messed I did squats
the day before my fitting, which was the dumbest possible
thing. I hit it so bad during my fitting that I was terrified I
was fitting to something awful and took it on the course this
week. And it was just like missiles. It was just a brand
new bad thing though. Like you want to know, AJ was saying in our conversation, like, no, as a fitter,
I want to see you like hit the, hit the one you're scared of.
Like I want to see that one because it's like,
you want to know the extremes and then they can kind of work
within that, you know, that bandwidth, I guess.
I'm still, I'm, I'm, I want to keep,
now I need to take it out on some courses I'm familiar with
and see, see how different the golf courses look with a
little bit more playable ball
flight. Still, I still would love to be able to hit a fade. We're not,
we're not quite there yet.
I will say we film my fitting so that'll come out.
I don't know when it's going to come out, but you know, we can put some,
we can put some video evidence of this, of my,
my fitting discussion out there pretty soon.

Guys, we think Jordan's speech wins the John Deere this week.
Spieth's in the field and Cantlay in the field this week.
Cantlay's in the field too.
I think Davis Thompson wins the John Deere this week. Interesting.
Hey, good to see the country music sensation T6. He's kind of in the wilderness.
For sure.
Eric Cole back on the leaderboard.
Young Eric Cole as he was referred to this weekend.
Wasn't he like 38.
We totally skipped past this on the takes on the broadcast that no golf ball should own.
Cam Davis's ball rolled off the green on 14 into the water.
Who was it that said that no ball should roll off the green into the water?
I think it was maybe I BF, but he was quoting Jack Nicholas, which again, I don't think it's
like the Trump card that maybe he, he thought he's like,
Oh, Jack Nichols designed hundreds of golf courses. He agrees. He says,
you know, a golf ball should never roll off the green into the water,
which I'm like a dog.
You guys have broadcast the masters for like 60 years and like,
have you ever watched it? Like, do you know what, like, what makes it fun? I,
yeah, I don't know if I quite agree with that one, but whatever. Well, it's four days of TV, man.
That's good.
This guy's got a lot of stuff.
That's true.
Same with me.
Yeah.
I can't remember what I said.
If actually I was going to win a major.
I don't know.
Actually has went into major.
We are out.
Thank you everyone for tuning in.
We will have a pod out later this week.
