Be the right club. Be the right club today.
Johnny, that's better than most.
How about him? That is better than most.
Better than most expect anything different
ladies and gentlemen welcome back to the no Laying Up Happy Hour live show podcast,
whatever you want to call it, presented by our friends at High Noon.
Solly here, it is Open Championship Week.
We got Cody running the ones and twos.
Hello, Cody.
Hello, Solly.
It's going to be a great week because I'm talking to my guy, Big Randy, two o'clock
on the Mountain Time Zone.
Hello, Mr. Big.
Hello, guys.
Happy to be here.
And we got a new rig.
We got a little bit of a new background.
I'm happy to show the world this week.
So handsome.
I love it.
And we're in four different time zones here,
because our guy Kevin van Valkenburg
is on a shoddy Western Scotland Wi-Fi connection
that we are praying holds up throughout this show.
Kevin, how are you buddy?
Hi, sorry, there's nothing wee about me.
I'm full of Scottish beer and cheese
and all kinds of things between.
How long could you go?
It's really good.
How much of the show could you do it at Accid
if you had to?
That is a great question.
I probably would get dragged out my house
if I did it for the entire show.
I could kind of do it like an Andy Kaufman bit. I just kept going even though you guys are shutting
me down crying, please, please Kevin stop. But I think I'll refrain from doing that.
That was your, your, Iglorious Bastards three moment where you said my house instead of me house.
That was your moment there.
Guys, the moment everyone's been waiting for,
it's finally here.
That is the high-nude pool pack.
It is back, grab a case, text the group,
get your friends to the nearest pool.
It's only here for this summer.
Time to enjoy the lime,
which is exactly what I've got here today.
Peach and two limited edition flavors, guava and kiwi.
I need to re-up on this because I do not have any guava and kiwi. I need to re-up on this
because I do not have any guava and kiwi left.
As always, the high noon pool pack is made with real vodka,
real juice, has 100 calories,
is gluten free, has no added sugar.
Visit high noon spirits.com to find it near you.
Randy, I see your watermelon.
I agree, it feels like it should be in the pool pack.
Right?
Yeah, it really should.
I think it should.
I don't know if we can use our ad copy time from suggestions to them. But if you want to reconsider that, add a fifth flavor in there, we will be all for that. So, Kev, you've been on site all week. I will throw it to you first question to get us started. What's this? What's been the story of the week so far?
is that it's not firm. That it's been a really wet year here in Scotland and you're just not going to get the the thump that we all know and love and so be prepared for that. It's going to
rain some more too you know from Thursday for a little bit. So you know we always love a browned
out open this is just not that going to be that. That's the main storyline for me. Is it is it are
people going to go Jacustosteau low? Is that is
that the fear out there? Is that the sentiment? I think we are
going to get some changing wins. So I think that that's maybe
one saving grace. The wind was already kind of effing with
people a little bit today. I walked around with Bryson. I'm
been committed to, you know, maybe maybe kind of building a
rapport with Bryson. You know, baby steps. Trying, trying. I've been committed to maybe kind of building a rapport
with Bryson, baby steps.
Trying, trying.
You gotta be seen there for a while
and then kind of ask some nerdy questions
and eventually hopefully he'll be open arms.
I would wanna tell him that I shouldn't be accused
of previous NLU crimes in his eyes.
So if I was in her house. Oh, don't sell us out. Don't do this. Don't do this. Don't do this.
It only gives TC is not here right now. It's like, you know, right. So I've got to tell
him that Randy said he was like healing the blinds, you know, a few years ago.
I was gonna say, yeah, I'm like, I've been in this corner a lot.
No, but I think, look, honestly, it's fascinating to watch Bryson get his foresight out and be like
livid that like a ball doesn't go where he thinks it's going to go because the wind is hitting it
wrong. It's like that's, he was perplexed on 7T today. That, that's 1.5 right. How was that ball
going that far left? That just makes no sense. Is there glare on the monitor? Like it was very, very, very, very, very like law.
I'm fascinated to know if Bryson's thing will ever work
in the elements because he's just so precise
and some of it, there's no way that he can like
download all this information and then recall it as needed.
But I literally saw it today, saw him,
he asked his caddy to get out the rangefinder and shoot him from 10 yards away while he was off
the green so that he could judge whether it was a 30 foot putt or
a 25 foot putt. That's what he wanted to know is like I have a
clock system of the putting and so please get out the rangefinder
let me know exactly how far the distance is. And so from 10 feet
away, he shot, shot Bryson with the range rider. It is step that off.
Like it is endless.
It is endless entertainment when you are walking with Bryson.
He's just, he constantly talks.
He's constantly asking questions.
I, I gotta be honest.
I'm in, I love it.
What was his quote from years ago?
Like wind, it's just one of those we'll never solve for it.
We'll never be able to solve for the wind.
It's the one thing we can't solve for it.
You can figure the rest of it out, but you can never solve for wind.
Yes. We'll talk a able to solve for the win. It's the one thing we can't solve for. You can figure the rest of it out, but you can never solve for wind.
Yes. We'll talk a little bit of weather.
Randy, on our preview pod, we got a chance to kind of go
down the list of what are the most things
we're most excited about this week.
Storylines we're most excited about.
Randy, I'll throw it to you first.
What's got you excited about the Open
or what are you most interested in this week?
Yeah, let me start with that, what I'm most interested in,
because even though it was a Phil Mickelson duel with Stenson last time they were at Trune, I did not get to watch hardly any of that golf tournament.
I was it was pre full time NLU and I was I was actually I was thinking back it was 2016 what I was doing in the summer of 2016.
I was actually an assistant pool manager at a little club in Columbus, Ohio. And so busy summer days. So from
a personal standpoint, I am really excited to just see Royal
Troon. It's it's one of those places. I remember I did watch a
lot in 2004. I've never played the golf course, I just don't
have a great idea of the course. And so it's one of those places
that I'm really excited to learn the holes, learn the
layout, learn to kind of see how they play as the week goes on. And then storylines, I think the two biggest for me are
Scotty, you know, can he win a major? Can he bookend this major season with wins? Obviously, he's won six times plus
the Masters. This would be a real feather in his cap. And then the other big thing is the he's broken this major season with wins. Obviously, he's won six
times plus the Masters. Um this
would be a real feather in his
cap and then the other big
thing is the Rory bounce back.
You know, he's we'll we'll get
into some of his quotes later in
the show but just seeing how he
comes back from the bitter
disappointment that we saw at
Pinehurst. So, I I think those,
you know, I I'm excited though
for this this tournament. I think it's going to be's gonna be, Kevin, as long as you can guarantee me
at least a little win, it's not just a total slot fest
and guys are just taking the course apart, I'm all in.
Are there bad opens?
As you're saying that, I'm trying to think back to like,
ah, that venue sucked and that tournament sucked.
Has there, is there anything that comes, the fact that everybody's looking up to this guy to try to think back to like, ah, that venue sucked and that tournament sucked. Like has there, has there, is there anything that comes,
the fact that there's, everybody's looking up to the sky
to try to think of one at the moment
kind of answers my question, right?
There is no Valhalla, there's no Quail Hollow on there,
there's no like, you know, Wingfoot on the US Open side.
Like I just don't think that there are bad ones.
You know, I was, we were texting with Max last night.
He was like, why doesn't nobody like talk more about Trun,
this golf course is incredible. I'm like, yeah, dude, like, try to rank the road of
courses to try. I truant is near the bottom for me. And I freaking love the golf course.
It's incredible. It's so, it's so good. The floor is just so high on open championships
that like it just, I guarantee you even I'll wake up at 430 probably tomorrow and I will
still feel like I missed so much stuff because there's just from the jump. It's just such a
freaking great tournament.
I think you're right about that,
that there aren't necessarily bad venues.
I think the disappointment just comes in
if we don't get to see the venue play as magical as it can.
So we'll see.
We'll reserve judgment as the week goes on there.
Kev, if I say Trune is a really good golf course,
good test, good stage for this tournament,
yet nothing really stands out in particular,
there's nothing that distinctive about it,
there's nothing that defining about it,
you spent a couple days on site there,
I believe it's your first time at Trune,
is that a fair description of it?
I think it's fair, I mean, if you don't know,
all the first nine holes go all the way out,
essentially in a straight line,
and then all the next nine come all the way back
with one little kind of diversion with the postage
stamp kind of thing.
And so you're going to get a very similar wind on the front
nine and an opposite wind on the back.
And it's only as we learned that in one of our deep dives,
that Tiger said, oh, that's the junior varsity.
But this is the varsity when you'd make the turn.
And so are there interesting holes? They're
really interesting bunkering. I think that that's one of the things that's distinctive about Trune is the bunkering is
really cool. They all kind of if you're running the ball around the ground, you got to be so precise because the ball is
going to feed into those bunkers. I mean, it is there, the contouring is made so that it draws balls toward them. So you can't kind of get away with it.
If you're in the fescue and you can't get to the green, you
better find a good place to stop the ball short of those bunkers
because you can really get boned if you are in them. So I think
that's kind of the you know, when when you see really good
bunker shaping, it makes your eyes like, Oh, wow, that that
makes sense like that, because you just don't have that
anywhere else in the world, oh, wow, that that makes sense. Like that, because you just don't have that anywhere else in the world other
than England, Scotland, and really, I think Scotland is the sort of preeminent
bunkering in the world.
And I'm probably going to shout it out like six times on this.
I can't say enough good things about the, the R and a YouTube channel and what the
content they've been putting out.
I'm like, example, like specifically, like I want what I want in pre tournament,
like buildup is like, I want like primo examples
of how the golf course is playing.
And you can watch those videos,
not only is the cinematography beautiful,
the chatter they get is great,
but also just like JT in the bunker,
Scotty and Sam Burns in bunkers,
Tiger hitting bunky shots,
like experimenting with balls that roll in or like banked.
They were there, JT was in the coffin bunker on eight,
which is the one that's to the left of the green, a ball
that like barely misses, it hits the front face that's like nearer to the green,
kicked all the way to the back, and he's like struggling to get the club not hit the back of the bunker, right?
That's example of like, if you wanted to find what the test is this week,
like a lot of Scottish courses, English courses, Irish courses, and a lot of open courses, it's to miss the bunkers.
You got to avoid the bunkers. I mean, the thing that stuck out to me when we played it in March was like, you see those lips of them from
the tees, but you don't see any sand. Like, almost none of your shots, do you see sand? That tells you how deep they
are that they've done. I think they've reworked almost all of them since the last, the 2016 open. And it's just, man,
if a little bit of wind blows, all of a sudden that question of
can you avoid these bunkers becomes a totally different endeavor, a different task. And it's
just the hardest one to predict, hardest championship to predict, I think, and it's going to be
a little wave dependent, but I'm trying to read these forecasts and the wind and all that. I can't
get a great picture. What are you hearing from on site as to what's actually about to happen
weather-wise? I hear that it's going to rain early tomorrow, that that's going to be the first get a great picture. Are you here? Like what are you hearing from all inside as to what's actually about to happen weather wise?
I hear that it's going to rain early tomorrow that that's going
to be the first sort of, you know, it's going to be wet in the
morning. So that's what I would expect. I mean, I'm not a
weatherman like you, Randy. I you know, I don't I don't
follow the
DC. Where's TC?
Yeah, well, I haven't seen TC. I'm I'm not sure T.C. is even here.
We keep passing each other like we're gonna connect,
but he's just a celebrity.
He's got so many things and people to see,
and obviously, you know, he's got some great golf
that he's been playing, so hopefully I get a pint
with him at some point.
Who knows?
I don't even know what his plans are.
If he's staying around for the whole thing,
or we're definitely not like bunk buddies this week
No, I think that I think we're gonna get different waves
So I which you know, look do you see somebody player every year who gets kind of boned by the wave?
Yes, when we get waves like that, so that'll be you know a bummer
But sometimes when guys fight through it man, then it's really fun when they're like, they can tell their five
shots back. But really, like that feels like the real lead, because all of a sudden you'd
step on to Saturday when it's all kind of evened up and that person has been playing
great all week. I'm excited for that. I look, you asked me to kind of think about some five
things to think about this week or five things I noticed, I really think Rory's going to play well. I think he is determined.
I think he is really focused. I think he, you know, he had to soak a little bit. He admitted as much.
He had to kind of decompress. He went to Manhattan by himself, just walked around the city for like
the whole day with his AirPods in and kind of rethought about like what was important in life.
And I think he's pretty like determined and focused. It's he
was made a great joke about had to cut off the media this week,
you know, he changed his number, he got too many damn texts from
the media, I got all these people in the media center
being like, Whoa, Kev, were you texting him? No, no, I was not
texting him. I was not one of those people.
I was neither for the record. There's no freaking way I was
texting him that night. No way.
Yeah, he said he said he realized when he got like 20 texts
from media members after, in the two days after the US Open,
that maybe it was time to put a little distance
between me and the media, which I was,
I was joking in the presser.
I was almost like, hey, am I too close
or do you need to put more distance between us?
Like, should I step back a few steps?
But no, I think he's gonna play well.
I think he's determined to, you know, at least kind of bounce back from that. And I think, you know, he's shown
that he plays pretty well in opens and he, uh, you know, he's, he hasn't really been
in contention other than St. Andrew's little bit at carnoustie when it was there, but I
think, I think he can, can do this. So that's my number one thing. Uh, do let me know when
you're ready for two, three, four and five. Just let's go. Let's do it right now. What do you, what do you got? What else?
I think that this is not related to the open so much, but that I didn't quite anticipate
how many people were like so excited to talk to Keegan about being the Ryder Cup captain.
And I'm sort of wondering, like, if you think Keegan's going to play really well, like I
know he talked about, like, I'd love to play my way on the Ryder Cup team.
Man, there's gonna be a shit ton of distractions about that
because everybody wants to,
the fans wanna hear about it,
they wanna talk about it constantly,
like other players wanna talk about it.
So that's kind of gonna be like something,
if you could short Keegan this week,
I would take that bet.
And you know I'm a Keegan guy, boys.
You know that I hate, it hurts my heart to say that. But he went know I'm a Keegan guy. You know, you know that I
hate hate. It hurts my heart to
say that uh he went one and two
at the Ryder Cup in 2014 at
Glen Eagles. I will not let
you. I will not let you slander
you keep bringing up Glen
Eagles and you never bring up
Madonna where he kicked ****
so gagged on Sunday. Yeah. Oh,
who didn't gag on Sunday? Who didn't gag on Sunday that day? So, you know
who gagged is the the state police who let Rory violate all kinds of traffic laws to get to the
course on time. That's who really let us down. Alright, so I think Ludwig is going to play really
well. I think ball flight for it, I think, has had a little bit of feeling like it is kind of pissed,
starting to get pissed about how it's, you know, he didn't close in the last two, was stung a little bit of feeling like it is kind of pissed. He's starting to get pissed about how it's, you know,
he didn't close in the last two.
Stung a little bit by what happened at the Scottish.
Looks really good hitting the ball this week
and feels like he's really speaking confidently.
So that's my number three.
Greens are gonna be slow.
They are, they were so slow at the beginning of the week. But you think they're kind
of worried about a little bit of the weather.
Jim Collison-Klein Quick note on that, Martin Slumber spoke on this today. I don't know if you caught this, but they
said that they were, they were anticipating different weather than they now are anticipating for tomorrow, and they're
able to speed them up more for tomorrow. So that was, they had them, they were anticipating more wind than maybe
they're going to get tomorrow. So they are going to be able, I't know what the actual step number is, but he did speak on that in
the presser test. Okay.
So it'll be interesting to see because the players have had to
really hammer putts throughout the practice rounds and have all
of a sudden like, they're fast, they're not gonna be fast.
They're not gonna be fast. They're just not maybe not as
slow as they'll be faster. I want to keep them slow. If that's
more likely to throw that more likely to throw guys off
than if they get them closer to normal tour speeds.
I think we're gonna see some putts going in.
Yeah.
Number four thing, I think we should buy that house
that's for sale in the middle of the course.
It's only like 1.5 million pounds.
That seems like a steal for a house
that's literally right in the middle of the golf course.
But that could be like the Kill House East.
Just throwing it out there, Randy, I don't know if that fits into
our budget this year.
Yeah, see, see what they'd want for like cash offer. Okay, we'll
try to do a bit of negotiating this week. Okay, yeah. But the
pound is down, right? You know, the the the Tories just got ran
out of power. So hopefully, like they're willing to do a deal.
Yeah, I think we should just take like take whatever calculate
what we need if we're gonna actually I'm gonna ride with you
Kevin on Rory. I already you know, I've announced that on
Monday, whatever we need, like take him to win and whatever we
need to buy the house. Let's let's figure out what the wager
needs to be there. Let's let's walk into a shop there.
The CFO will not approve of that.
It's got like a really nice open like living room situation. You kind of open up the doors and you
can sit out there but you know you probably take a lot of golf
ball shrapnel from uh idiot tourists like myself. Uh and I
I'm I'm going to say I am actually really really
interested to see how Scottie plays this week. He talked a
lot about in his presser about how he always loves shaping
shots and you know that's kind of how he thinks and that's what makes the you know him like link likes links golf but he hasn't
really like done great in this this is fourth open like he's never really contended he's never
really kind of made any noise in an open you know i'm fascinated to see how like a little bit slower
greens uh how he's you know able to sort of play a golf that he's totally has not had a ton of experience on literally the first time he ever played
Lynx golf was the Genesis, uh, last year.
So, or two years ago.
So it's, I kind of stunned that like, he just was never one of those kids who
like went overseas to play in any big, like the European juniors or anything
like that, or didn't his Walker cup happened to be in the United States.
So he kind of claims I love Lynx golf, but like, I feel like the European juniors or anything like that, or didn't his walker cup happened to be in the United States? So he kind of claims I love links golf, but like, I feel like the test is going to be an actual like, what are you going to produce?
Just for the record, three years ago, it was his was his first open championship that he played. This is going to be his fourth is what I'm
not sure. Yeah.
And just Cody flashed his results. Sorry, Sully real quick. I mean, still just a crazy high floor though. Right? Like worst of the three opens a tie for 23rd.
So I'm, I'm with you, KVV. I'm, I'm really curious to see how Scotty does.
Yeah. It's that eight footer that he missed at St. George's cost me like maybe a
million dollars in the fantasy golf pool.
that St. George's cost me like maybe a million dollars in the fantasy golf pool that we were in.
It could have legitimately been like one of those stories. I'll bring that up with him. We do an oral history of that sweat of that episode, the live show that night. I was so mad.
I had to read about roms like 64 that cost me all that money. But I want to give a shout out to our friends at
Rowback. Listen, there is a reason we wear Rowback this much. There's truly probably not a day that goes by where I
don't wear some form. I like that one, Randy. Gosh darn, that's a great athletic tee. There's not a day where I
don't put some kind of Rowback on. I'm a big workout shirt guy. I feel like I've almost all of my on-camera appearances
all summer have been in the workout shirt.
Definitely worn the workout shirt more than I have worked
out actually in the summer, but I put it on.
It makes me want to go work out.
It's fantastic material.
That's the Blitz Tech Long Sleeve Tee.
They're just great for summer.
It's so fucking hot here, man.
I just need something that feels comfortable to sweat in.
I bust out the joggers for the first time a couple
weeks ago, or last week when there was just a little bit of a rainstorm. I missed wearing those. The bathing suit got
some use on July 4. They've just got so much stuff. They also were big sponsors of our World Troon video that we put
out going this week. If you want to get a glimpse of World Troon, I had to wear, I missed those days, right, to wear
five layers of Roeback to stay warm enough to shoot that video.
But if you haven't already,
time to load up on some Roeback for yourself
and for others, code NLURoeback.com.
20% off your first order through the end of this week.
That's R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com.
20% off bottoms, Q-zips.
Hoodies and more with code NLU.
Summer isn't the same without Roeback.
Kev, everybody seems to be coming around on Bryson.
Everybody's coming around.
We've covered this, we've talked about this.
Any interesting interactions you've seen
amongst fellow competitors with the big data golfer
this week?
You know, I mean, look, I am probably
the most sympathetic Bryson soul among us
just because empathy is like my default
button but you know I think some of his he's very very conscious of hey like I'm gonna
make sure that everybody knows I'm gonna sign for these kids and I'm gonna make sure that
if you ask me for a selfie I'm gonna make sure that I'm gonna give it to you and I'm
gonna you know there was a moment that I thought was really interesting I'm probably gonna
write about this later in the week, but I'll go ahead and
share it here.
He was on the putting green and tiger was kind of going through his routine and,
and tiger hit like a long kind of like, but,
and Bryson was walking over the putting green and he pretended to kick the ball.
And tiger kind of looked up and was like, and, and Bryson was,
he was kind of like trying to sort of like, you know,
hey buddy, whatever. And so he, Tiger just kind of like, kind of ignored him and you
could tell Bryson was like, okay, okay, whatever. And then Tiger thought about it for a sec,
went over, got his ball and then went, walked over to Bryson and stuck his hand out and
Bryson was like face lit up. Like it was Christmas, man. Like he was so, so excited. I swear there's
a good chance that's the first time they've had
any kind of like friendly interaction in a year or so, or maybe more. And it was like, it made
Bryson's whole freaking day. And so that's like something I don't think he thought like he was
doing, you know, maybe the kicking the ball was like him trying to sort of be doofy, but like,
yeah. And I think Tiger kind of gave him, you know, Tiger thought about it for a second. I was like,
ah, you know what? Fuck it. Like, let me go ahead and like acknowledge him or
whatever. But you know, today I'm watching him on he's the, the, the hole where the train
goes by. I think it's 11. Yeah. He's waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting. And he's like,
guys, is there seriously someone still up in the fairway up there? Like, come on. And
it's like, Tommy Morrison is like a, you know, kid from Texas or whatever, is an amateur.
And he just, you know, he's like,
I'm playing right on through.
Like it was, it was very much like,
yeah, man, I'm Bryson and you're him.
And like, I'll be, I'll be like, you know, cordial to you,
but I want to get my routine done.
I want to keep playing.
He was pissed about pace of play or not about piss,
but he was frustrated about pace of play.
So, you know, look, Bryson's, there's still some ornery things uh that he has going on but it's you know he's trying so
very hard to I think uh endear himself to various people uh whether they're fans or other you know
other players or whatnot. I would just tell him I love these anecdotes KVV. I feel like the the yin
and the yang the like you know the the little testy moments it take it all together and that's the
good stuff right I don't want to see him go too far into this polished showman persona. Yeah he does
he loves to interact with the crowd like the crowd there's people who are saying oh Brice is gonna get
Yeah. Yeah. He does. He loves to interact with the crowd like the crowd. There's people who are saying, oh, but I said gonna get a picture and he's like, oh, I can't understand you, bud. And the guy's like, oh, sorry, I'll tell in English. And he's like, oh, just kidding. I guys speak Scottish and like, you know, the very corny like the lovely interaction. So that's what the fans want, you know, he knows how to play the hits now. Like he knows, you know, the tiger thing I found surprising and interesting. I thought about a little bit more maybe than I should have, but it was like, I
could totally, maybe a brief calculus moment of Tiger being like, all right, if
I blow this dude off like intentionally this, this hard, then it may, then maybe
he goes and says that like somebody asks him about that in the presser and he
says, yeah, Tiger completely like that.
It ends up being a bigger story than I need to be.
It's easier for me to just go shake this dude's hand, which listen, I can,
we could, we could confidently report Tiger is not, uh, not, oh,
arms wide open towards these live guys. That is, uh, you know,
probably a factor in the rider cup stuff, honestly. And, uh, uh,
maybe just the calculated move from Tiger. I don't think he's, I do,
I can promise you he's not over everything that's happened.
Let me put it that way. So I
have an interesting slide. I did hear someone else kind of
float that theory of like maybe Bryson or maybe Tiger did not
want to be the Ryder Cup captain this year. Because of like they
told you know, such a said, well, you know, you consider
live guys and he was just like, Yeah, I don't want to and I
don't know if that's true or not. But that that rumor is out
there. There's that Tiger just did not want to have that live discussion or decision on his hands as a captain
Yeah, I believe it amongst other reasons not to do it. I believe that to be true as well
Um a little bit more tiger stuff this week
Tom Montgomery had some quotes earlier in this week doing an interview said there's a time for all sportsmen to say goodbye
It's very difficult to tell tiger. It's time to go. Obviously, he still feels he can win. We are more realistic.
I'll paraphrase some other quotes of saying like, he's
going to go to Trun, he's not going to have a good time
there, blah, blah, blah. He was asked about it in his presser.
Tiger said, Well, as a past champion, I'm exempt until I'm
60. Collins not. He's not a past champion. So he's not exempt. So
he doesn't get the opportunity to make that decision I do,
which is the most classic Tiger ever of like the literal like,
of course, we know this part to be true, Tiger.
Of course, it's going to get your little laugh.
And of course, it's very it's in the police report when it's actually not of like,
I don't know if that answers the question we have here, Tiger.
We are aware that the decision lies with you, whether or not you want to play in these
things and that you are
accepted until you're 60. Thank you for reminding us. But like,
hey, I think it's a pretty fair question here of like, Hey, if
this isn't like going great for like it hasn't been, like, do
you still want to do this? How long do you want to do this?
Like, he was clearly not ready to have that conversation. But I
just found that part to be like, a classic Tiger answer of
deflecting and classic deflection.
I don't think there was a followup of any kind of like,
hey man, like what are we doing out of this?
What are you getting out of this?
That was definitely a feeling I had walking away
for the Masters this past year of like,
dude, why are you doing this?
You've told us for how many years you only are gonna tee it
up in these things is if you think you can win.
I'm sure he'll sit here and tell us he thinks he can,
but it's kind of, you know, I don't want him clapping back at me.
But I think Monty's comments are quite fair. Honestly, I would
never say that if I was Monty and if I was a peer of his, but
I don't know, that whole thing just kind of got an eye roll
from me.
I think if he said if he framed it in a different way, if he's
like, Look, I obviously haven't played great. But you know what,
like I'm building towards something you never know, like
Phil's a good example of like how you can just be not playing well. And you know what, like I'm building towards something you never know like Phil's a good example
of like how you can just be not playing well
and you can all of a sudden turn it around
and play great in a major.
And you know, maybe I'm thinking about
next year's major season.
Maybe I'm sort of starting to rebuild my body towards that.
And if I don't do this now, I got no chance, you know,
when I think that through, you know, my early 50s,
I still feel like I have a chance,
but I have to put in the work to get there. All of that is like a little bit too, you know, my early 50s, I still feel like I have a chance, but I have to put in the work to get there. All of that is like a little bit too, you know, self aware or a little bit outside the script for him to go
into. But I think that would be a better answer than the sort of myth of like, Oh, I'm only out here if I think I
can win. Well, like, yeah, but like every single week, do you think that? I mean, some of that kind of bluster, I
think is a little bit silly. I would be fine, too, if Tiger was like, Yeah, I just like enjoy golf. Like, I like being out here. I like hitting the shots. This is kind of all
of my life has ever been. So I don't really know what I would do if I wasn't doing it. I'm only doing it four times a
year. Like everybody kind of chill out. And if I win down the road, that's obviously what I was working towards. But if I
don't, well, you know, I'm good with what I've accomplished.
Well, you know, I'm good with what I've accomplished. I'm glad you said that, KVV.
I'll plug the piece you had today,
with your observations around Trune.
And I think it was a, was it a Roger Federer quote
that you had in there about, you know, hey,
it's sometimes it's nice just to get back to,
Federer was talking about playing tennis
just for the joy of playing tennis
and trying to recapture what you love about it from the very beginning. And I would love if Tiger said that. And like you guys said, of course, Tiger is not going to give us that, which is a shame.
I just wish he would be a little bit more open and vulnerable.
Because it's solid.
I'm like you.
It's like those Monty comments were very fair and pretty spot
on, I thought.
And I think that's a good thing.
I think that's a good thing.
And I think that's it's solid. I'm like you. It's like, those money comments were like, very fair and like, pretty
spot on, I thought. And yeah, I pardon me, I would not blame
Tiger at all. If he's like, Listen, guys, I might have what
1011 of these left in me at most. And I really just enjoy
playing links golf. And I'm just going to come over here and have
a great time. Like I'd be like cool man
Like I'm played play till you're 60. That's awesome
But I it's a little bit like dude don't don't keep telling us like you only tee it up
If you think you can win like I feel like that trains a little that that's pulled out of the station a bit for me
Honestly, this is obviously completely projection completely projected
But like I think part of why he wants to keep doing this
is now that his son's at an age where he's obviously
very clearly gonna remember things and is maturing
into a teenager of like, his son getting to see him,
get admired out on the golf course.
His son missed out on, both his kids kinda missed out
on his peak era of watching play golf in terms
of what they're gonna to remember. And like,
it's just not the worst thing in the world for you know, his son
to kind of experience some of that that'd be that'd be some of
my guess but
maybe he was a little brawn too. So maybe he's hoping and
praying that Charlie will, you know, qualify for us open
someday and then he still gets an exemption.
Qualify earn his way in it feels a little bit different than the
LeBron situation.
Okay, okay.
PJ Turok is gonna give him a four year $7.9 million contract. But
a couple questions, we're gonna get some trivia. We're gonna make
our fan deal pick of the week. We're gonna make picks to win
picks not to win. You know, get a couple other shouts before we
go. But Sean Ferg 17 with win forecasted to come from the
south for Thursday and Friday. How does that affect certain holes? Is that consistent with the wind you've
there's been so far this week, Kevin? And what do you see out of that wind direction?
It seems like it. I mean, look, I'm not a wind expert. I feel like I get a little bit out over
my skis when I talk about some of this stuff. Like I'm better at sort of telling you how the
players feel, but it seems like the players are.
Yeah, I need help in that sense.
So I do think I'm listening to Phil talk about
like the different wins today.
I don't know if you saw that clip.
Yes. Fascinating.
Talk about like hook wins versus slice wins.
Like I, you know, someone wrote,
I think a Twitter comment to like Cal Porter,
like the Saudis really robbed us of like one of the greatest
like golf commentators
of all time. And it's hard not to hear that and feel like man,
that is true, because Phil, he's just so good at like, the
technical stuff, but also being at ease and being funny, but
being interesting and insightful being pointed, like he's all of
those things when he talks about golf. And I, I don't know, I
hope there's a way back some way for him to
someday like sit and call golf, because I think it would be
really maybe I'll just do it and live. And maybe that's what
gets me interested in live for the first time. But I love
hearing him talk about stuff.
It was really interesting because I when I heard it, it
sounded like he was explaining how it's gonna be a good thing
for lefties. But now that I see the wind direction, I don't
think it is but he was saying, if you're gonna have, like for a
right-hander, the wind is gonna be off your left. You want it down and off the left instead of into and off the left. And
you'd rather have, when you do have the hurt, you'd rather have it going right to left than left to right, essentially. So,
and that's what it looks like it will be out of the south. So the front nine would be into off the right, which you can
kind of cut it up against it, and it's not gonna, you know, balloon on you, whereas if would be into off the right, which you can kind of cut it up against it and it's not
gonna, you know, balloon on you. Whereas if it's in off the left, it kind of really exacerbates right-handers cuts and like
then the lefty, you know, the lefty in theory could carve it up against that. We saw that on the back nine of Kiwa, if you
remember that when, when Phil won in 2021 up against Koepka, he just had the wind advantage being a left-hander. So, so
he's just, what he's describing is going to be a tougher wind into and off the
right for lefties on the beginning part of that phase and
then down off the left on the, on the coming home part. So I
don't remember what it blew. I think it was more of an opposite
direction in 2016, if I remember right, because I think the front
nine played really easy and the back nine played a lot harder.
But with this wind, like the front nine is easier, but it's
going to be a little bit more into. And then whereas the back nine is easier, but it's gonna be a little bit more into.
And then whereas the back nine is harder,
but it's gonna play a little more down.
I'm wondering if we see closer balance split,
at least for the first two days,
when they're kind of afraid to make predictions
on the weather for the weekend.
From the last that I read, it was too uncertain,
but I'm wondering, you know,
kind of if we see more balance
those first couple of days of the tournament.
I know it was, the front nine was downwind today
because on three, where there's the burn that sort of crosses, you know, it's like, I think it's 380 or something that guys were taking it over that burn like Bryson just hammer like three drives and you can get to that green
if it's downwind. You have to kind of doglegs a little bit right and so it's hard if you
hit it straight. It's you're gonna end up in some pretty bad stuff there which makes
kind of compelling right like if there is punishment for going for that then that I
think that's a fun kind of thing but I can't predict like is that front nine gonna stay downwind like you know hopefully you'll get it at
least a couple days so that we have different looks throughout the
tournament of what courses and they are the proposed wind direction for the
first couple days will make the postage stamp play that wind will be almost
entirely off the left which is good across window that hole is good I mean
it honestly any win for that hole is going to be good. Even downwind would be interesting, but into the wind would be great. Like, it's just a fantastic, the shortest hole in major championship golf and see what it's like when somebody gets in that back bunker and just how boned
they truly are.
I think that would make for a fun piece.
So if you're listening to the show, you can look for that later.
It'd be a fun one.
Like either position yourself at the tee or like walking off the green.
I would just love to hear like 15 quotes either from guys walking off the green or at the
tee like trying to figure out what to do.
And maybe it's maybe it's maybe it's mean, they get so freaking dialed on this. I'm like, that's the thing,
that's the one thing about that green of that size. It's so small. I've heard guys talk about this. I'm like, dude,
just hit on the front middle of the green. Like, no matter where the pin is, none of that's gonna change. I don't even
care where the pin is on that green. I'm trying to hit it in this exact spot all four days and you're gonna be totally fine. So
Jack French in the quick the crooked
OWGR top 20 who do you have the least amount of confidence this week potentially hungover Bob defending champ Harmon Russ Henley Keegan etc
I'll just give you the 11 through 20 in the world golf official world golf rankings the corrupt world golf rankings saw if
Tommy Fleetwood Brian Harmon Hideki maxki, Max Homa, Big Shot Bob, Tom Kim, Tony Finau, Keegan Bradley, and Russell Henley.
Gosh, I already said you should short Keegan this week.
Yeah.
I'm a, what's our guy Max doing?
I'm a little, I'm a little worried about him, honestly.
Yeah. I mean, Wynd't has not had like a good year
out after Pebble. So to me, like if if TC were here, he
would tell you that a ball speed imposter is going to get
blown out to see. So that would be interesting. I mean, has
Mark how I mean, like obviously Mark has an open championship,
but there was very little wind for at least three of those
days. I'm really fascinated to see how Colin plays because he's been playing well.
He played well the Genesis. Obviously there was a little windy there.
So is he ready to be a big boy and actually, you know,
because he's struggled in the wind in the past.
I don't know. I'm choosing all the options. So I'm sorry.
I'm going to take Keegan based on your report.
I think more account is going to play well.
He's played some some very good golf, but I just don't think it's going to
be done. I don't think it's going gonna blow strong enough to really be classified as windy
I could be wrong, but it just doesn't look like it's gonna be
You know anything that it is gonna gonna greatly tip the scales Randy. You have a guy you're is Max your guy
Yeah, I'm worried about my results haven't been great
I
Know he had what, tied 10 last year, I want to say,
at the open, missed the cup before that.
Yeah, I could see it kind of being a disappointing
miscut for him.
I'd honestly say him.
James Eleven-Wood, not the rookie for the Washington
Nationals, I assume.
But will there be a quadruple bogey on the postage
stamp over the four rounds?
I am going to go. Yes,
I think over six and a half is a good, it's a good, good number
to put out there. But I think somebody's gonna do it.
Yeah, there's 155 guys in the field, I think one person dropped
out. So like, you, you're gonna get one kind of like am who gets
in there and just does something, something not great.
And I mean, literally, you can't take a backswing in that
coffin bunker really. So I don't know what you do if you're
willing to accept like pitching it to the other side of the
bunker so that you can maybe get it out of the bunker from
there. Like, I'm all in on that, mate.
I think we're gonna see somebody on one of the holes this week. I
don't know if that one but like hit one that fails to get out of
a bunker and come back in their own footprint and then like
legitimately have trouble getting back out. Like, it looks quite, quite, quite difficult.
Now they did, Solly, they did make the bunkers kind of,
they heard so much complaining from the players last year
about the flat bunkers at Hoylake
that they did kind of round them a little bit
so that the ball will hit
and then kind of go back away from the walls
to give you a chance.
That's so gross. I'm sorry to report that. little bit so that the ball will hit and then kind of go back away from the walls to give you a chance.
That's so gross. I'm sorry to report that. You might have just ruined the whole week for me.
I take back any excitement that I had. I withheld that as long as I could just hoping that I could keep you interested. They shifted them in the middle of the tournament like last year so like
they kind of raked them different in the middle of the tournament last year if I'm
According to Scotty they they did like actual work on the bunker so that they're rounded there at the bottom as opposed to being flat So I think it's more than just a different rake
Gotcha. All right. We're calling in our guy Cody. I asked him to I always usually have to host the trivia and I never
I never get to partake. I wanna get involved in some trivia.
Open championship trivia, I have no idea.
Oli just wants to stone on me.
Well, I got no idea what he's got cooked up.
It could be, if it's ancient stuff, I'm screwed.
It's recent, I might have a shot.
KBV and I might have an advantage
just because we do some of these deep dives,
which we end up diving into some of these now.
Some of the ones we've done deep dives on,
I can't remember who won them despite the deep dives that which we end up diving into some of these now. Some of the ones we've done deep dives on, I can't remember who won them,
despite the deep dives that we've actually done.
But this should be, I have no idea what's coming,
but I wanna hear what trivia questions you got.
Hands are up too, no Googling, no nothing.
Okay, well I think we'll start very, very basic.
You guys all love this tournament,
everybody that's in the live chat right now listening,
of course I love them. I love all everybody who
consumes our content. But I want to know and you guys this
tournament goes back a long long ways. Do you guys know what
year it actually started?
I have a guess.
This is this is the show for it. Go ahead and let me hear the
guess.
My guess is 1860. You are correct.
Exactly what I was gonna say. Unfortunately, Randy got a point for it. You didn't say. Oh, I know we're racing.
Okay. I mean come on. Is there a buzzer? What the frick? I have an internal buzzer here.
I was gonna say before we started, my best guess, let's just keep this pre-1900.
I feel like that's my best shot. All right, there's a lot of, you know, long history tradition.
They've done a complete like PR makeover of this.
Don't call it the British Open anymore.
We are the open because it's open for everybody.
But back in that 1860, it wasn't quite open
because they actually just invited like eight bros to show up.
What did they actually play for?
The belt.
The belt. But
you got me.
You won that. Is that right? Yeah, it's the belt. But is it
an actual name of it? So it's called the challenge belt and
we all know that young Tom Morris, he ended up winning it three years in a
row and instead of the club hosting it because they used to go to represent
the club,
he got to keep it because he
won for the third time. And, uh,
that's where the world famous Claret jug came about,
but that's not his actual name. What is the Claret jug actually called?
Championship trophy.
Very good. The golf championship trophy. Wow.
What's the, that really, yes.
That was a hundred percent a guess.
What is the, where's this the Claret come from then?
Like, okay.
Listen, the website that I'm looking at right now,
it doesn't give me that much information.
Follow up questions are not allowed on trivia.
You guys talked about Tiger, maybe you should hang it up.
Colin obviously, you know,
Monty thinks he should hang it up too. Do you know what the,
the oldest competitor ever in an open championship, how,
I'll say this as Gene Sarism, how old do you think it was?
I think it was 50. No, no, no, no.
Very good. 74 years old.
Really? Yeah. 74 years old. Which he has like, yeah, he has like 74 years old. Really? Are you serious? Yeah. 74 years old.
Which he has like, yeah, he has like 15 years left.
He could be running for president of the United States.
So he's good.
How embarrassing is my answer right here?
I mean, this is like your stuff though.
No, that was a total guess.
Yeah.
It's big.
If I may, I have a, I have a little tidbit on the Claret jug and I think Tron would have the Wonderful. So there you go. Push would have been pissed about that too. Mr. Wine.
All right. The oldest winner of this. You guys, I'm going to tell you his age. Okay. 46 years old.
Old Tom Morris.
Very good.
I didn't get shut out.
Obvious his name is old. Well, come on.
Well, I did guess that the oldest player was in his 50s and you're exempt to your 60s. So that was a makeup for that calf. All right. We talked a little bit about the last time
that the open was held at Royal Turin. You guys, we talked about Phil and Hendrick battling
it out. You guys did an excellent deep dive that's covered that. What was the actual winning score there? You
can give me. Okay, 21 under 20, but the previous one at Royal
Troom when Todd Hamilton win, I think it was when he win four
under. Nope. 10 under cut in half. I want to talk. Let me
give an answer. This was my deep dive. You're too slow. So when you talk about prevailing wind, winds changing, things like that,
I mean, that's just kind of, it goes to show how exposed this course can be at times.
Well, and also the freakish nature of 2016, I mean, JB Holmes was six under and only two guys beat
him, right? I mean, it's still like hell on its own, despite Henrik and Phil going ape shit. It's still just one of the most ridiculous golf tournaments ever.
That's why I walked by that gorse bush today where Ernie L's hit that ball like an outside
fastball. It was just mesmerized by that today. All right. Jack Nicholas, long history with this
tournament. He obviously has been open champion open champion three times
How many runner-up finishes does he have? Oh?
My god, this is
I would say I
eight
seven one dollars
seven rubs
Here's a
Thing to think about don't you think Jack?
It's an interesting they're like only one three opens right like the two at st. Andrew's a thing to think about. Don't you think Jack? It's an
interesting. They're like only
one three opens, right? Like
the two at Saint Anders and
then uh whatever the other one
was. You're field. Yeah. Like
it feels like Jack should have
like won some more opens,
right? Like it just, I don't
know. It feels like he was so
good for so long in it. I mean,
didn't finish outside the top
five for a decade. You always
look like, oh yeah, it's really
would have picked one off at True and or would have picked one off it. You know, one of the a player of a decade, you always look like, oh yeah, it's really you would have picked one off at
Truin or would have picked one
off at, you know, one of the
lesser ones, Saint Anne and
Saint George like no, I'm just
thinking this now between Tiger
and Jack. Have they only wanted
a total of three golf courses
open championships? Uh so four
times but no, it's yeah. Tyler
went out Tiger went to Hoy Lake.
They've each won twice the Saint Andrews and then Jack won at Muirfield
That's right. Yeah, that's three golf courses. Oh, you're right three golf. You're right. Damn it
Wow wild that's kind of wild
Didn't Jack's it was at top five or top ten fifteen straight years where he didn't finish out
I know it's at least top ten
They did not finish outside the top ten at the open and it might be top five
didn't finish out. I know it's at least top 10. They did not finish outside the top 10 at the open and it might be top
five.
I think for a decade it was top five and then it was like
outside like for 15 years it might have been top 10.
That's that's stupid. Yeah, no, that's
if I if I think he went the entire 70s he only finished
outside the top 10 and majors four times. I'm pulling up the
wiki right now.
I was gonna say I always feel like I I see his Wiki posted this time of year.
All right, from 1971, yeah, okay, he only finished outside the top 10 once through 1980,
right? So 10 years, he was outside the top 10 one time.
His worst finish in the 70s was tied for fifth. His worst finish in the 70s.
in the 70s was tied for fifth. His worst finish in the 70s.
This I think we did this for once but his from 63 he went three to t 1212 to t six, one t five to four three t three t two
to one. And then t two. And then t four. Yeah, and then he
started that he was kind of not competitive anymore, but
holy shit. He's playing against a bunch of plumbers and firemen.
For sure. Not only that, when I was doing the little bit of research I did for this
trivia game today, it was going through the Wikipedia page. The purse and what the winners
share of this tournament, it used to, I understand. $1,500 or something.
I understand why the guys wouldn't get on the old steamboat
and make their way across.
You couldn't even cover it.
You had to stack exhibitions up on both sides just to cover.
I mean, they have mouths to feed, guys.
Come on, what are we doing here?
Who is the first champion, first open champion
to get their winners check to be a million dollars or more.
That's a great question.
Which seems like it's crazy with the money that we're talking about now.
Million dollars or pounds?
Million dollars.
That's a good point.
I think in 2017 is when they officially changed the purse from pounds to US dollars.
That was another trivia question I was gonna ask later, but
sorry, who's the first person to come out a million bucks?
I'll say Tiger in 05. Tiger in 05. This is of course, I was
I'm gonna do quick, quick numbers here real quick. Tiger
in 05 $720,000.
Oh, that would that's more than I guess. real quick. Tiger in 05, $720,000.
Oh, that's more than I would have guessed.
So then Tiger in 2007, when he won at Hoylick.
2015.
Six.
Zach Johnson.
What?
Broke ass RMA?
Last year's winner's purse was,
or winner's share of it was $3 million.
Just a little bit up this year a very slight purse increase overall announced by the RNA which I I kind of like
Everybody else is kind of chasing this money and everything. They're saying that the tournament the title everything
Alright, I Johnson won 1.8 million dollars in in 2015
That's us dollars, so I got one
Wait, so the question was 100 1 million pounds.
No dollars, dollars. He did the conversion.
Okay, well, we may need to we may need to fact check some of
this. I'll go audit it. It's not right because 2014 Rory won 1.6
million.
That's fine. I'm sure you didn't report all that.
You're right on pounds. It was 975,000 pounds in 2014, not dollars.
So my hand up.
Okay.
Listen, I got one.
Wikipedia is asking me right now for more donations
so they can fact check this.
That's not on me.
Go ahead.
How much money did Gary Player win
when he won the 1959 open championship, his first major?
All right. when he won the 1959 Open Championship, his first major? Yeah, I was gonna guess 20,000 pounds.
Show your number. 1,500.
Way too high. 1,000 pounds.
Yes.
Hell yeah.
That was the winner's share of a total purse was 5,000 pounds for the in 1959.
The answer to a lot of dudes wouldn't play it for sure.
Yeah. Answer to Cody's question officially 2002 open
1.1 million to Ernie else US dollar one. Yeah, dollars. Very
good. All right. There's a long long history of South Africans
doing very, very good at the Open Championship. Who is the
winningest South African? Very good. How many? Five. Five
opens. Bobby lock one, three or open championship. Four.
Nobody's five except for that's something that rubs fucking
KVVs guys so bad. I think he has like every other record for
South Africa and outside of like, you know, Louie has I think the lowest 36 hole open championship
But I found a quote from Gary's like, oh, yeah, you know, I I'm I'm the winningest golfer
It's not traveled more miles that Bobby locked it
Come on, Kev. This is what the happy hour is for, man. Alright,
guys. That was a a ton of fun. Thank you for indulging me.
I'll go back and do some auditing here and we'll figure
out real. That's alright. Let's do this now. Let's make our
fan duel play of the week around the horn. This can, you
know, can be your winter play if you want to. It's just one
pick that you like. Could be anything from their depth,
wide depth of markets.
I'll go first, Cody.
I don't know what you have cooked up for graphics here,
but my play is a first round play.
So a lot of the questions around this guy
are stemming from round four, okay?
It's not been a round one, a round two, a round three thing,
especially at majors weekly recently.
I don't think the wind's gonna be up enough
to blow this one over.
Under 70 and a half for Ludwig in round one.
And that was plus money, plus 115.
This was a screenshot earlier today.
I don't know if these odds have changed,
but I'm going under 70.5, round one, Ludwig Oberg, plus 115.
And I feel very confident in that one.
I love that one.
You're not worried about the slow play ramifications of his
pairing with Bryson and Tom Kim.
No, that could work in his benefit.
Then he's not running up the back of the next group.
He's got guys in his group that'll help him stay behind.
Rainey, what's your pick of the week?
Well, I'm actually staying in that same group.
I have a, you know, I like the
region plays. And so I found we're talking, it's under rest of the world. And
that excludes essentially Europe, Great Britain, Ireland, all of that. It
excludes America. And it's Tom Kim to win the rest of the world group at plus 1000.
I don't know if he's a course fit, Solly.
I honestly, I don't really look at that stuff, but I like Tom Kim.
I feel like he's playing some good golf.
He had a great finish last year at the open.
Somebody I'm keeping my eye on.
Love it. Love it.
Eye test, baby. Kev, what do you have? at the open. Uh somebody I'm keeping my eye on. Love it.
Love it. I test baby. Kev,
what do you have? Uh yeah, I
just asked me to my pick to
win so I'm gonna just go out
and tell you I am picking
Rory McIlroy to win. I have
not picked Rory to win a major
for five years. I am I am very
shying away always of picking
Rory and I'm breaking that
right now. I'm sticking my neck out, Sully and I'm saying that this away from shying away always a picking Rory and I'm breaking that
right now. I'm sticking my neck
out. So, and I'm saying that
this is going to be Rory. So,
he is plus 750 to win at least
the last that I looked that is
Kevin's pick to win. Uh you
want to do these uh the rest of
our picks to win and not to win
right now. Uh yeah, I think
that's a good segue for it.
Kevin, who will who will not
win? Oh, that's me up here. I
had I had you going through
order. Sorry. What? We'll we'll
we'll circle back then. We'll
circle back. What? Randy, who
is your pick to win this open
championship? It's Tom Kim. It
is Tom. Yes, to win. I'm picking him to win. I wanted to go off the board. The Brian Harmon
win motivated me. I'm just looking for somebody, you know, again, total eye test. I have no
idea. I couldn't tell you if he's a good course fit, Tali. I just like some of the golf. I
like some of the golf he's been playing. I feel like he's he's put some good to very good major championship results on the
board the last couple years. So give me Tom Kim, I think he'd
be a great winner for the game of golf.
Tom Tom Kim, from outside of the rest of the world, as they'd
say, but a resident of Dallas, I'm pretty sure.
You see my pull the like the reverse last year and leave as Tom Kim
is winning instead of going to see Tommy win. My dream would be Tom Kim clipping Tommy Fleetwood
on the seventy second. Oh my god. My king. Uh which is it shouldn't be my kingdom. Tommy's
one of my favorite players but
we just need TC to get punched
that hard. Yes. Uh Randy who's
not going to win. I have uh
world number one. Scottie
Scheffler is not going to win.
I wanted to stick my neck out.
Uh I'm not sure if it's a good
pick but you know, he's he
hasn't won one of these. I'm
not saying he will never win
but uh if my guy Tom Kim's going to win means you know Scotty can't win that's just
simple math. I like your
boldness. It's interesting. I
have no idea on uh Cody's order
of graphics here. I'm I'm making
it well. I'll go. You picked
Rory to win as you're sticking
your neck out there the first
time and who knows what year
but who's uh who are you
picking not to win uh John Rom
is not going to win.
John finished pretty well last year.
You think that this, uh, you know, channeling the spirit of Seve also quick segue.
They're now selling stupid Seve hats like those things that say like open pit.
Yeah, they just say Seve.
They're officially branded open hats.
I hate to report that as well to you guys.
But anyway, John Rom is not going to win. Just has not had it this year, has not been sharp enough. the I had to wear that. I had to wear that dumb **** hat at the Ryder Cup for all the things
that got wrong. Uh you gotta
wear that. So, I love it. I
would have to buy buy one
tomorrow just in case because
I'm sure they're going to sell
out uh quickly as soon as the
larger fan base comes in. I I
just wanna, Ram is like truly
the forgotten man for me going
into this this tournament. Yeah.
Crazy. I had to make sure he
was still in the top ten
because I feel like we can't
can't pick one outside the top ten and he is in fact just clinging on to the top ten. Yeah. Alright, thanks. I'm gonna sneak mine in
here too. I actually had a different slide. Let me see if I can pull it up real real quick. This is
gonna be I'm gonna join you right there on who I think is gonna win. right, I'm gonna go Rory. Of course, everybody knows I'm a long time supporter
of the block party.
We, you guys, the P.E.
Were you texting Rory?
Were you texting him right up the ozone?
No, I've never spoken a word to Rory McIlroy in my life.
So it's definitely not me.
And you guys would be shocked.
Those P.E. goons that DJ brought in last month. They haven't replied to any of my calls
I'm looking to see if we got funding for the block party DJ's got every you know
He has a security situation going on right now in Milwaukee. Yeah, there's a lot of people in town
He's not answering my text Neil. I think he's out at the beach
I don't know if we're gonna get this thing up off the ground or not, but I'll report back more
Um, if Rory doesn't happen of course I
gotta go with Cam Young because you never know. I think Cam Young is gonna be the winner.
Also how tiny is Cam Young in that crowd?
We Cam Young. All right what's the matter? Sorry I can't do this? You can't pick two guys to win
it's one guy to win. I mean I'm gonna show your graphics in a bit and you're you're to lose not to win was like the yeah
Because because that was me being ballsy here because I picked as well not to lose
You got to take multiple guys if you're going down the board. All right, okay
I knew you guys were gonna catch me on this so he's gone but not to win Scotty Shuffler. There you go
Roy's gonna win
See this is out when you get used to the bits and I know Sully is going to
call me out for it, they're already pre-made man. This is it. I don't know.
Scotty threw me off at Pinehurst. I think it's just, uh, you know,
as he continues to get used to different turf conditions,
like he's really good at the PGA tour.
I just don't think he's like really good at the rest of this,
no matter how much he likes to talk about his creativity and everything else. Famous last words. I know. Anyway,
here's the rest of the crew. Made a graphic. Somebody will probably accuse me of ripping them
off, ripping this off of them too, but I made it, okay? Okay. For those that are listening on the
podcast, we have Trune Carter is picking Tommy Fleetwood to win, Xander not to win.
This was also on the preview show if you listened. We have myself, I am also on Rory to win. I picked
Hovland, Rom and Hatton to not win. The most out on the line there. DJ Pye has picked Tommy Fleetwood.
You just picked all the European Ryder Cup team to not win. Is that what's going
on here? I just grabbed three
three of those dudes. They're
not going to win that. I'm
worried to win. It's not the
Euro Ryder Cup team. I wish
you would have thrown in Ricky
for old time's sake. Well, I
have course. Of course, Ricky's
not going to win. Unfortunately,
there's a better chance of that
that member being potentially
like in Legion 33 or whatever
it is by the end of the year. I
don't want this whatever jinx
you had going on. Hey, Hoblin said he's not going to live. He reaffirmed that once again in the league. I don't want to be region thirty-three or whatever it is by the end of the year. I don't want this
whatever jinx you got going
on. Hey, Hobbs said he's not
going to live. He reaffirmed
that once again in the Times
of London this week. He's
basically said to live is not
for me. I just needed to hear
what it's all about. I sent my
agent to do due diligence
because that's what
intelligent inquisitive people
do but it's not for me. Uh DJ
Hi. Oh yeah. Sorry. Sorry. Bizarrely, he's also on the Tommy Fleetwood
to win train here and also.
So much beige in this graph.
So much Nike.
Also Ludwig will not win is his pick.
Neil has selected Ludwig Oberg to win
and Morikawa to not win.
So this was a lot of, this is interesting to track.
So thank you for making those Cody.
I appreciate it.
And sorry, because we are currently in the like a bit of a
pinch here.
Funding wise, I was hopefully hoping that you could reach out
to some of your Bitcoin goons and see if you can get one of
the mining operations.
On Monday's show, I announced that I'd be hosting the block
party this week.
I'd be picking up the torch for Neil who obviously no longer believes in Rory. But I do think Rory is
going to win this week. But I got to think about what I want
to do. The brand is so bad on this block party thing. Like,
you know, it just, it was kind of borderline cult before. I
just really hated the vibe of it. And you know, I'm kind of, I
don't know if I'm really taking it over as much as I am, like
creating kind of my own. I'm more like renting out
a corner of the bar, and everyone that wants to come
through, come through. But I don't know if I like the
branding of the block party, it just the previous leader of it
really left a sour taste in my mouth for how he ran it. And I
think I kind of just need to branch off. It's a little
smaller operation here. And I got to think about how I want to
position that throughout the course.
It's gonna sell memberships. Yeah. He's got a lot of money.
He's very a Ramco of you.
No, it's gonna be an open bar. It's gonna be an open bar.
I'm gonna take care of everyone that comes through.
But it just...
Do you have to be on the list? Do you have to be on wristband? Are you...
Just RSVP, yes. They don't have to be on the list, but just indicate that you have interest in coming by.
And, you know, we'll be happy to have you.
I'm excited.
If you want, you're already on the list, Kev.
You can come on back.
Your ISVP'd yes.
You've selected him to win.
Sick. All right, great.
I was gonna have to start an alternative block party
because I was like, what, where's my invite?
Yeah, I got plans. I won't be there.
That's fine.
I made the graphic for KVV.
I knew he was gonna bring up
the alternative block party too. So this for KVV. I knew he was gonna bring up the alternative block party, too
So this is KVV at his block party
Meet meet KVV at the big wheel in trune. If you didn't read my thing, I really wanted to ride this big wheel today
I was gonna make some content, but it's like it's locked down
It's like there's a like a rusty fence around it
They're waiting for they're waiting for a big crowd to come this summer and then I open it up
I think TC rented it out for the day. KVV. It's like it's TC's got his
boys they're riding. If Rory does win this week, he better take the Clara jug on the
damn Ferris wheel. Like, you know, it's gonna be a great week. NBC's broadcast teams are
Dan Hicks and Luke Donald is a pair. They have Mike Tirico and Brad Faxon paired
up, Terry Gannon and Paul McGinley, and Steve Sands and Noda Begay. Those are the, the four different teams that are
going to be cycling through NBC. So no Brando. I just, I'm just now realizing that today that no, no Brando listed. This
comes from, comes from awful announcing, but on-course reporters are going to be John Wood, Smiley Kaufman, Bones and Kurt Byrom.
And that is pretty much it for our happy hour. We went a little over our time today, but I,
listen, this is last men's major championship of the year, and I'm very, very, very excited about it.
So if you're tuning into this, hopefully you will tune in as well Thursday, Friday, Saturday and
Sunday. We've listed 3 p.m. start time. Obviously, we're going to play it by year on what the most
interesting stuff is that's happening out in the golf course, but sometime listed 3 p.m. start time. Obviously we're going to play it by ear on what the most
interesting stuff is that's happening out in the golf course.
But sometime around 3 p.m. Eastern time, crack a high noon
with us. Come join us. We're going to talk some golf all week
long. Cody's running the ones and twos. Kev's going to be on
site. He's going to be riding a bunch. Check out NoLayingUp.com.
Like and subscribe. Hit that thumbs button. You know what to
do. Thanks everyone for tuning in. We'll see you back here
later this week. Cheers.
Cheers.
Cheers, mate.
