Be the right club. Be the right club today.
Yes!
Johnny, that's better than most.
How about him? That is better than most.
Better than most.
Expect anything different.
Ladies and gentlemen, the waterproofs and the brawlies and the rain gear are out. Welcome back to the No Laying Up live show presented as always by our friends at high
noon.
I've had all the bad luck I could possibly have this week with my picks, so we've got
the Brawly open indoor.
Solly here.
TC is calling in live from Truen.
Hello, TC.
Hello.
I'm actually from Presswick, but good to be with you guys.
Solly, bad luck is what you're chalking it up to?
Yes. It was just unlucky. Bad side of the draw. but good to be with you guys. Solid bad luck is what you're chalking it up to.
Yes, it was just unlucky, bad side of the draw. I mean, my whole week was the bad side of the draw.
So, Icarito, Neil Schuster is with us.
It's too hot for this rain gear,
but I had to do it for the bit.
Hello, Neil.
Greetings, gentlemen.
It's a pleasure to be here.
Fired up to talk about some golf.
DJ Pies here, hello DJ.
Hey guys, backwards hats, Team Rose, all the things I love to see on a golf course. What a day? What
a day at Royal Troon can't wait to talk about it. Are you
concerned the game is going to be too big after today? I mean
it had to have grown by exponential amounts. All the
backwards hats bring it on man. Let's let's turn some of these
parks into golf courses. Let's bulldoze some of these
apartments. Let's give people playing golf man. That's what
I that's what I'm about and that's's what we're gonna see after this week.
Well, here we go.
The moment everyone has been waiting for, it's here.
We have 18 holes to play,
and of course, the high noon pool pack is back.
Grab a case, text the group chat,
get your friends to the nearest pool.
It's only here for summer.
Now's the time to enjoy lime, peach,
and two limited edition flavors, kiwi and guava.
I'm on the kiwi and the guava tonight,
because I have a feeling it's going to be kind of a long show.
As always, the High Noon Pool Pack
is made with real vodka and real juice, 100 calories,
gluten-free, no added sugar.
HighNoonSpirits.com to find it near you.
Guys, DJ, to you first, what's the story of the day?
William Ho.
God, I had a good time watching Billy Ho today, man.
I don't know what it is. Maybe you guys can help me
out. He's jittery, which is fun. But he's just like, he's such a
good front runner. Tron, he reminds me a little bit like him
getting in his process there. Just reminds me like when you
and I are playing all shot, you know, you're just you're so
locked in to every square inch of the golf course, you don't
have time. Sure. Can't be thinking about anything else. He
just he wears it on his face. He's just in a
in a world of robotic stick to the process golfers. Billy's
he's kind of like a you know, a bit of a relic in his own time.
You know he's it feels like a throwback player and God I love
it. I had such a fun time watching today. He's electric
man. It's it's you know it's really tough career to kind of define and look back on.
He won the FedEx Cup 10 years ago. I mean, his ascension from 2011 to 2014 was a pretty linear path.
And then it's been kind of up and down since then, good moments here and there,
but we've never seen this in an open from him. I mean, he shot 67 in the opening round of the open at Trune in 2016,
but followed it with 85 and missed the cut. We've not seen him in contention in a major really ever as far as I can remember.
I'd have to double check that one. But I did not like necessarily when you when you think
of like the greatest short games in golf, does Billy come to mind? Not necessarily.
But what he did on the back night today was one of the greatest short game displays I've ever
seen in nine holes of golf. I don't recall ever seeing a golf course play as long as really those final six holes and he
didn't hit any of the greens and got up and down every single hole until the very last hole. I mean
five just very low odd from like 60 yards. I mean these dudes weren't even coming close to getting
these par fours in two and Billy was getting up up and down from absolutely everywhere. It cost us
me and Neil a bet which might would have been an excellent hit. But gosh, was it fun to watch?
Yeah, Billy's the guy I think that's the story of the day. I think Billy is I don't know if there's anybody maybe outside of Team Rose, but Team Rose winning in Scotland doesn't feel quite it feels a little icky. So I think, weirdly, I just think Billy Ho leading
the Open Championship and being potentially the open or the champion golfer of the year
feels like such a weird but but also invigorating thing where I think he would really lean into it
more than anybody else in this field. I like he's already a massive West Ham fan. He's talked at length for the last five years
about how much he loves playing over here.
Like he's got a little bit of that rap mode in him, right?
Like the weather got bad today.
It wasn't really windy.
So I don't think guys had to necessarily lock in
with the wind, but it was just, it was like,
hey man, like, are you willing to be uncomfortable?
Just like physically uncomfortable and wet and
Evidently you get windy at the end. It was windy at the end
Yeah, that final graphic they showed showed 24 mile an hour into the wind on 18 like it got up
That was I mean that was you know what the last 10% of the round or whatever
I think the story of the day would have been Dan Brown, if not for that finish.
They were trying to paint it as,
on Sky they were trying to paint it as bad luck
on the first hole.
Like no, he was better off there.
I think the bunker wasn't moving.
It was there.
He was better off there than in the bunker even.
Dan Hicks saying he refuses to exit the stage.
And then he finally of finally said,
all right, I'll go backstage on 18.
But I might be back for the encore.
Yeah, that's right.
I think the Billy stuff is interesting
because in a vacuum and almost like when you drill
into kind of each one of his moves,
he can come off as a little pandering probably, right?
He talks about how, oh, I just, the best fans in golf.
And I love, I've just gotten really into soccer and
you can kind of roll your eyes, but he's just been about all
that stuff for like more than a decade now. So to your point,
Toronto, I'm kind of like no, he's really one of the only
players of his generation that has kind of embraced that
lifestyle of man. I'm going to go play the Dunhill. I'm going
to go play the BMW PGA. I'm going to go play all these
other events and I mean, I think he's, I don't know, he's kind of, he's walked the walk.
And I think that helped him a lot this, you know, this week, I do, uh, in
solidarity, the, the NLU on budsman for a second, I don't think there's any
golfer got the foot joy, isotonic gloves on.
That's right.
There's not a golfer we could talk about
right now that this entire company has boomeranged on maybe multiple times of Billy Ho send them out.
Oh, the town crier. No, no, no. I love Billy Ho. I mean, it's a razor's edge with Billy Ho.
It's awesome, but it's also exhausting. It's the true Garth. There's two sides to that coin.
Right now we're on the good side,
but if it's not going his way,
if he doesn't get up and down five times,
Solly, it could get ugly, right?
Like that last five or six holes could have,
yeah, maybe gotten a little uncomfortable.
Instead, he and Rose are vibing their faces off.
And you juxtapose that with Lowry and Dan Brown,
and Lowry's not having a good time.
He looked like a balloon just spinning off with the air coming out of it all over the
back nine.
Just, oh my God, he's going this way.
He's going that way.
I feel like Lowry and Horschel could have easily changed positions.
At the beginning of the day, you probably would have thought that we would be saying
all this stuff about Lowry because he's a mutter.
He plays really well in bad weather.
And it looked that way on the front nine.
And then it just postage stamp on Lowry just lost it, which was, I kind of think
a little bit of the story of the day too.
Totally T.C.
You're taking barrel fire in the comments for saying it didn't get windy.
I just, I'll give you a chance to apologize for that take, which was the guys were
hitting drivers on 17.
Windy for the last what?
Three holes?
Like it wasn't that windy.
No, at least a guy was on 11, couldn't get home in two. Like it was windy for the last what three holes like it wasn't that windy. No at least a guy was on
11 couldn't get home in two like it was windy for the entire back night. Guys are gonna drive
into the car three. It wasn't even near yesterday. All right. Literally laid up on 11 like he was
it was very windy on the back night. It was also extremely wet, extremely wet. Drench city UK.
wet, extremely wet, drenched city UK.
Maybe hard to feel the wind in the hospitality suites.
But I would like to bring. Yeah, I'd like to I had a word that kind of summed up a feeling I had watching today's coverage.
And it's like urgency. I feel like it's a really interesting
leaderboard because I think it's a lot of guys that have come
really close a guy like Rose, a guy that's been to the mountaintop, if you want to call it FedEx
Cup, the mountaintop, like Horschel, completely lost it. And oh my God, this might be my only chance.
You got a guy like Dan Brown, same thing. He's qualified to get in. And then you have,
I think Xander even qualifies for this. He could steal two majors this year while everybody's
talking about Bryson
and Scheffler. And what if Zander comes in the back door
and says, Hey, I just want two of the four majors. Now what are
we going to say? Who's the best golfer in the world? So it
feels like there's a sense of urgency. And not because it
almost because guys feel like this is like my only shot a
little bit like for a guy like Rose, it's like I gotta have it
right now. And you could feel that as he was
coming down the back nine. So I really, really, really like
this leaderboard. It's, it's, it's, it's kind of a weird
leaderboard. It's not a lot of guys that I wouldn't have said
on Wednesday, like, Oh, yeah, man, give me Lowry and Xander
and Russell Henley. But I'm like, holy shit, actually,
Russell Henley is kind of fascinating in this position. I
was saying this on Twitter that I feel like so many majors,
there's so little randomness anymore in the majors,
where it's just like, man, it's 72 holes.
The best player is going to win after 72 holes.
And so it's probably going to be Scotty or Xander or Rory
or Bryson or Brooks.
And so you pick your favorite of the giant horses,
it's going to be one of those guys.
And now that we finally have some randomness going on,
I'm kind of like, man,
give me Dan Brown. Like what? What does this guy's playing
his first major? Like all these guys are bitching about money
and reshaping the this guy's playing his first major, he
qualified his way in like, that's an unbelievable story.
Give me that. That's great. Give me Justin Rose. I don't care.
Give me Billy Horschel. That's sweet.
I feel totally just like open championship setups and
conditions. I'm at the whim of whatever happens tomorrow
There's nothing I'm rooting for or against really like I truly give me anything other than like a run away from maybe
Tristan Lawrence, which I still read that as thirst and Lawrence every time I see it and I will not be calling him Tristan from
Here on out. It's something where like there's not a
Like I think we talk about setup all the time at Augusta at PGA at US Open
I don't give a
shit how the RNA sets this course up, right? Yeah, I know what Terrell Hutton does, but like
just go play the course. There's certain greens that they're cutting different speeds at different
parts of that green. It's crazy. There were a couple essentially 575 yard par fours out there today. It's like I don't know
I guess just figure it out
Yeah, it was or you're not playing the same golf course and
You're playing different parts of the day, right?
Like something is playing a different course this morning than these guys were playing this afternoon. So
Yeah, I don't know. I feel like with Billy it
Yeah, I don't know. I feel like with Billy, it must be like how people feel about me sometimes. Like, man, I kind of hate this guy.
Can't wait for this.
But when you get to going, man.
But man, he's kind of a grinder.
When he gets that hat backwards, you don't know what you're going to get out of him. I honestly, I don't find obviously Justin Rose to be that likable of a guy, but the
vibe that Billy and Justin had going together today was like extremely likable.
They felt like they were pulling for each other.
Rose dug himself in in a way on a Saturday, I can't recall somebody doing in terms of
just like very serious fist pumps.
I'm not sure he knew it was Saturday and not Sunday.
It was and they weren't that they weren't the douchey style
fist pumps like there's very much like he was just very
locked in. I find that that whole thing to be entertaining
like the the backwards hat brigade flipping around between
the two of them was was was very entertaining as well.
Well, there's a there's a sincerity there, Sally, you can
feel it.
You know it because of where these guys are in their career. I don't think it's a coincidence
that it's guys like Rose and Billy Ho that are able to be like, I don't give a shit about the
weather. The younger guy's like, I'll have another chance. I mean, you read Rory's comments like,
oh, I'm just thinking about where I'm going on vacation. It's like, that guy's like, I'm going
to be on vacation for the rest of my life.
Uh, I need to get this, I need to get this done now.
Thanks to Morgan's family.
They got my retirement plans dialed in.
This is it for me.
So I don't know.
That's hard.
It's hard to look away from that type of, uh, like sincere, like, I don't know.
It's not, sometimes it's not cool to be, um, sincere, but I find it, um, magnetic in that way, even though, yeah, like, sometimes it's not cool to be sincere, but I find it magnetic in that way.
Even though, yeah, like, Rose is not cool.
And, you know, he's still smug and he's still like,
it's not cool at all, but it is sincere
and I appreciate that.
A lot of different faces from Rose today.
Just all sorts of caricatures.
It goes all the way back to even Max's putt,
like, to make the cut yesterday.
Reading some of his quotes, we're like, man,
this is my favorite tournament in the world.
And I know it's kind of lame to get that fired up
about making the cut, but now that means I get to have
two more days of this tournament.
I'm like, God, that's awesome.
Yeah, that's where like Adam Hadwin tweeted this morning,
like, man, I'm bummed to go home from this tournament.
And this is like, I didn't play well.
This is my favorite term of the year.
And you know what, but we're gonna go tee it up again
next week at 3M in Minnesota.
It's like, man, we only get this once a year.
That's kind of bleak, right?
Yeah.
It's funny looking at this board.
And I honestly, I'll change the numbers of this one too,
but I forget what club that we visited that had this,
where it was a very expensive club, but they ran like an entry sale to get into the club at one point for a cheap price.
Let's say it was like, again, quote unquote cheap price. Let's say it was like 25k, but the people
that like joined at that price were called the 25ers. Like they were kind of like spoken to,
like in a derogatory way. I feel that way looking at the leaderboard of like how you got into this
top 10.
Like, did you get in through like the real process
or did you get in cheap?
Like I'm looking at Tristan Lawrence,
Sam Burns and Russell Henley shooting
six minus six minus six minus five today.
Like they're the 25ers in this group of like,
you getting in here was luck of the draw.
You're gonna be in the-
Henley was borderline though.
He was kinda on the edge of when it started to get bad.
I thought his round was pretty impressive. I would say though, Sam Burns just been chilling at home for like,
him burns is an international member. Yeah. JT is making all kinds of bets on digital currencies. His stocks going up and down.
He just happened to cash it at the right time. How about JT being what? Four back with a fucking 45 on his card?
That's incredible, man.
Sam Burns was seven over through 11 to start his tournament.
He shot 41 on the front and flipped over and doubled 11.
And he's one back going into the final round.
I don't know if I've seen him hit a shot yet this week.
I don't know.
Burns will be in the final group, correct?
Because he was a first in.
So I think it's him and Horschel.
I have two times. No, it's Horschel and Lawrence are in the
final group. Is that right?
So it's Thriston or Thurston?
I think it's Tristan.
Tristan. Yeah. Yeah. And then so Lawrence and Horschel off at
225. Henley and Burns are off at 215. Rose and Zander are at 205.
Scottie and Daniel Brown off at 155.
Adam Scott, Shane Lowry at 145.
Matthew Jordan, JT 135.
Cody, can you go back up to those final two pairings?
I mean, just imagine the first 15 minutes of this show
that we just did about how what an unbelievable
golf tournament it is.
Billy Horschel, Tristan Lawrence, Sam Byrnes and Russ Headley.
It's just like, man, so you know, you can't predict it.
You can't predict it.
Look at Lawrence and Horschel's pictures.
They had to do it though.
Yeah, come on now.
Come on now.
We had to do it.
Oh God.
Without looking, without looking, what do you think?
Playing in the final group, one back,
what Tristan Lawrence's odds are to win the Open tomorrow?
Oh, my God.
Like 20 to 1?
700.
Plus 1,400.
I would say 15.
14 to 1.
I was going to say plus 1,000.
That's tough.
That can't be fun to look at.
Well, we got a lot of questions around that.
Like All-Star Grunwald said when your major course produces a leader group Sunday of
Dan Brown and Billy Horschel how can it be how can it not be getting the same
or worse treatment than Valhalla which produced an amazing leader for it? I'm
gonna guess that's a tongue-in-cheek question. Yeah can we not answer that one?
I don't think it is. There were seriously people that were that were sending that
along. That was like I got like four or five questions that when I opened that one. Yeah, I don't think it is. There were seriously people that were that were setting that along. That was like, I got like a four or five questions that when I opened that up.
I don't know that the drama at hand is kind of what matters more. Like it because it's maybe because it's different maybe because it's there's downside, I think is the fact that you know, we're watching 18 today and you're like, if they're to struggle to make par. And I don't know, watching these guys be challenged, I guess, is my answer.
If I could simplify it as much as possible, it looks challenging.
And yeah, nature of golf, some random dude that qualified, he might be
at the top of the leaderboard.
I don't know if he could do it for four straight rounds though.
And if he does, I'm going to tip my cap to him in my rain gloves.
You know what I mean?
Maybe that one in particular was tongue in cheek,
but there was some of that sentiment both in DMS today of just like, look at this leaderboard.
And you guys like this. It's like, well, truly, I'm not even going to explain it. Like if you,
if you like, if you watch that today and did not like that, then we're just two different people.
But that's no different than, than the stuff that we've said about Bell Reve or Bethpage or Valhalla of like, just because it produces a good
leaderboard, like the best players in the world are playing
the same course of like, you know, yeah, like there's a
chance that and honestly, like there's there's not enough
randomness, it's too optimized, it's too, you know, it's too
like, like, there's just not enough chance, there's not enough
downside risk. So not like bad shits not going to happen to these guys, right?
Whereas here it's like, man, this is golf.
It's random.
There's variables.
There's bad luck involved.
This is golf.
Zinke says, that was his question he said, and Lynx golf is golf?
Question mark, discuss.
It's like, yeah, the rest, this is the rest is just like
a big corporate show. This is like what actually real golf is. They just can't play here very much because everything's gotten outdated. Can I say one other thing about like what I personally,
I'll put this on the record. What I love about a leaderboard is when there are like one or two
randos, I don't want it to be a ton of people I don't know, but some guys that have never been
there and then you have the best player in the world in Scottie Scheffler, two shots back,
who, you know, actually struck it really well, but couldn't putt today.
And you have the second or third best golfer in Xander Schauffele, one stroke back.
Like those, when you have horses trying to run these guys down, that's fantastic.
Like what, what's not, and then you got a couple of guys that have been around
the block trying to get it done one last time. Like it's a
great mix of everything. Yeah, exactly. Right. It's got this
leaderboard has everything for me. So I'm fired up about it.
I'm trying to think of like the simplest way to distill down the
conversation. Because like if you like the Valhalla and
belrive and big names and what I'm truly that's not not a
passive aggressive condescension thing. If you like that, have fun. That's great. But if we wanted
to have like a two hour argument about why we like the things that we like, I
think all four of us would probably be able to fill that two hours a lot easier
than somebody on the other side. And the quickest way to sum it up for me was
just like at no point today did I have any idea what was gonna happen with any
player or any hole. I'm just like I'm watching TV just like at no point today. Did I have any idea what was going to happen with any player or any hole?
I'm just like I'm watching TV just like dude,
I cannot wait to see what happens.
Whereas at all of those tournaments, I'm like, yeah,
I mean he's probably going to hit it.
It's in the middle of the fairway in a flat line.
There's no wind.
He's probably going to hit it to 11 feet.
I guess maybe make it here or he doesn't.
He missed an opportunity.
The numbers would say he should have birdied there.
Yeah. And it's just,
Oh, that's a shot of the data boys, you know. You are one now. He missed an opportunity. The numbers would say he should have birdied there. Yeah, and it's just-
Oh, that's a shot of the data boys, you know?
You are one now.
Yeah, welcome.
Yes, thank you.
Well, I like the-
You know I like the data viz?
Come on.
I'll give a example of that,
specifically DJ, in our Slack today at 11.45,
I said, Lowry's still plus odds to win this,
and it feels like he should be minus,
I just put $50 on him.
And like, because it didn't look like you fuck it up
like the unpredictable nature of it he missed the birdie on seven and then dumps it in the bunker
on eight and makes double and then it was all downhill from there like it just this is the best
possible form of golf I freaking love it even on the women's side like last time the women played
here Sofia Popov won as the like as a qualifier like Lauren Lauren Coughlin just texted me that
and I'm like yeah that's a great example.
And at no point did that feel cheap or
random or
she played the best golf that week
and she deserved to win.
She was 396 in the world when that happened.
I remember that.
I think maybe the other thing to say
to kind of underscore what you're just saying there is
there's no
it's not out of scale with like what the prerequisite
skill is. Right? Because all of those courses like you're
saying Valhalla and Belle Reeve and Bethpage and whatever are
just like man unless you saw you say it all the time unless you
can fit through this shaped box like you're just you have no
chance. And look at this fucking leaderboard we have man, Billy
Horschel and like Xander Shauffele and Scottie Scheffler and Justin Rose and Thriston Lawrence
Play wild and Daniel Brown like play wildly different styles of golf man
And that just all adds up to I have no freaking clue what's gonna happen
And I just I can't wait tomorrow's gonna be awesome. That's a DJ. I do want to clarify
you said like I don't want to be condescending or
That said DJ, I do want to clarify. You said like I don't want to be condescending or snide or anything like that as far as if you like if you enjoy that kind of golf. I'm the opposite. I'm going to be condescending and like like you were like I don't have like unfollow me.
Some people are new to the game, you know that we've all been thinking and talking and arguing about this stuff for a long time. Maybe some people aren't like that. Maybe this is gatekeeping and typical
difficult Listen, I there's a lot still talk about and there's something we do talk about a lot and you know
Maybe we shouldn't talk about it as much but I just can't help it
I can't hold I can't hold myself back. There's reason why we talk about row back this much
It's there's not a day that goes by where I'm not rocking some kind of form of row back
That wasn't my best transition, but like, you know, we're, you
know, it's it's it's difficult test out there is into the wind.
Subtle dogs on this leaderboard for sure are some subtle dogs.
That's all he is really in trouble. Now he's gonna have to
pitch out. We'll see what he can do here.
This matter is back on track.
I got the crew net going right now it can be worn, you know,
somewhat formally with like a collared shirt underneath it
can be worn very casually. It's not too hot, it's not too cool.
It just feels like a very premium quality piece of material.
The hoodie's, of course, the best material,
perfect for any situation.
The workout tees are fantastic,
rocking those a ton in the summer.
Got the bathing suit out a couple weeks ago for July 4th.
They've been a fantastic supporter of our content.
A lot of our video stuff, a lot of our previous stuff,
including our video we did on Royal Troon.
That was very, very cold weather.
I believe that was about 40 degree day.
We're in five different layers of rowback stuff.
So we greatly appreciate rowback support.
If you haven't already, load up on some rowback
for yourself and for others, code NLU at rowback.com.
For generous 20% off your first order
through the end of this week, that's R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com.
20% off bottoms, Q-zips, hoodies, and more.
Code N-L-U, summer isn't the same without Roeback.
You wanna do lingering or loitering, Neil?
I'd be happy to.
I mean, yeah, I feel like we've touched on some of the guys
on the leaderboard, but I think, and I almost want,
I definitely want some feedback from you guys on,
I can kinda kick it off here, but, I mean, let's just start at the top, Billy Ho.
I feel like based on, I don't think Billy Ho is going to win.
And I think he's lingering.
So let's be very clear.
We've got a lot of people hanging out around the bodega.
Deege, a lot of guys, some skateboarders out there.
There's some guys sitting in their car with
festival just ended or something.
You know, I was going in to get a water backpackers, even my, my guy running the,
running the bodegas he's slammed at the counter.
You know, there's just people crapping up the line.
Can't make a decision on what candy they want.
So there's just a lot going on.
Uh, lingering means you're just hanging out and you're kind of in the way and you're taking up space.
And loitering means that you may have a baseball bat. You may be, you may want to do something
like we should be concerned about this individual. I feel like Billy Ho is in the lingering category.
I feel like he's in a way, I hate to say this because I like having him here and I was entertained
by him today, but I think he's happy to be here. I think he's happy to be at the top
of the leaderboard after Saturday. I don't know if he's got what it takes to finish the
job. Do you guys agree? I couldn't disagree more. I hate that take. Okay. All right. Well,
that's how I feel about it. I think he's lingering. Fucking rancid. I think you look at where
Billy was this time last year. He was in the wilderness.
And I agree all credit to him.
Nobody works harder than Billy.
I don't think and Billy will tell you he works really hard too.
But it works harder than Billy.
But I think Billy's earned where he's at right now with, you know, he's played well in majors prior.
He's not a flash in the pan, he's played well in majors prior.
He's not a flash in the pan.
He's a, he's an exceptional ball striker.
It's just a matter of whether the putting cooperates.
I agree with all DC.
I just don't think he's going to win.
And for that reason, I think he's lingering.
That's, that's just a personal feeling.
I don't think he's currently, I think he got the best round of the day.
I think he grinded, but I, my sustainability models with some of the up and down stuff
does not make me feel great about his chances tomorrow with some of the horses chasing him.
I think there's some bad luck waiting for him tomorrow that he didn't see today.
That's my point.
I think today was his bad round.
Um, I don't know.
I have a problem with the odds right now.
I think he had an all time round today. I totally disagree with that.
I think he got away with some things, but I think, I don't think he struck the ball
well. That's what I'm saying about his bad round. Like I don't think he struck the ball
all that well and got away with that. I have some problems with the odds, frankly. Xander
is the favorite right now, plus 350. Scotty, plus 360.
Billy, plus 550.
And then it leaves the team Rose at plus 800.
Sam Burns at plus 850.
Russell Henley, plus 900.
All right, well, let me stick with this for just a second,
because I would go to...
I think Zander is for sure loitering.
I thought he played fantastic today as well in the meat of the shit.
Like, kind of when it was as bad as it could be,
he hit the ball off the tee so well.
I just think that he is, I think those odds are correct.
Like I am, if I'm looking at this leaderboard tonight
and I'm Horschel or Tristan or Sam Burns,
I'm terrified of Xander.
Like just kinda hanging out right there
when people are probably talking about,
oh, Scheffler's too back. It's like, no Xander is about to win two majors. Like
I would kind of put my money up like on Xander. And I think the odds would, would back me
up on that. So I've got him ordering can't lay tomorrow either, which is security blankets
gone. The RNA disgustingly paired those two together with, with the cat, the first two
rounds and then they got paired together again for round three. I think the vibes are gonna be off for Xander tomorrow with team Rose.
I'm so stuck on Rose on team Rose 13 top tens in majors since his last or his only major
victory that you know the numbers would say he doesn't get it done, but you know, this old dog, maybe
there's one more go around here. Hell yeah. He's loitering. I'm scared of him. He's loitering. What
do you clips one here? TC I know it would be unbecoming for him to come up to Scotland and win
this, but God, what a story that would be. No, I don't disagree at all. I think he's absolutely
loitering. Uh, I think he's, he's he's looking like, what's that guy's name?
The rapper, the English rapper.
Stormzy?
Stormzy, he's like Stormzy.
He's loitering right now.
Definitely loitering.
You guys trying to get the right, yeah,
trying to get the right.
God, that's an interesting one.
I'm gonna put Rose and Horschel, this is not a hot take,
but both of them in the bucket.
They could shoot 68 or 78 tomorrow and I would be
equally unfazed. You know, like, I don't know how that didn't
take just all the gas out of their tanks today. Like Saul,
you mentioned earlier, that looked like they were playing a
Ryder Cup round today. And I don't know how you just go back
out and get up for that same.
What's gonna be easy tomorrow?
That same amount of energy.
Which does that favor them?
I feel like today I favored them
because it was hard as fuck.
Yeah.
I mean, I think, I'm nervous about Rose.
I think that could be a, that could be a.
Yes, I think that sums it up.
Are you nervous about him or not?
That's loitering, right?
It's like, I don't know if I really want that,
but I kinda wanna see it
because he's been around so long like straight up
I'm not nervous about Burns Henley or thirsty Lawrence I'm just gonna put this
on the record Henley's playing really freaky yeah Henley sneaky has got he's
been around a lot longer than you think he has and he's he's been but what does
he not do does not win He does not win these things.
But you look at his, his, like, I had that graphic, the strokes gained, like career evolution,
speaking of how I'm a data boy, he, he looks like Shane Lowry without a major and he's
been doing it for five, six years longer than him, which is kind of in a, like, you know,
it's like, Oh, why couldn't he clip one? Just like Lowry did a few years back is kind of
the, you know, he know, he's right there.
I would say that Sam Burns is definitely lingering.
I think he got lucky with the draw today.
I'm not super concerned about him.
The one I would say that is loitering that you guys will probably disagree with me, I
think Dan Brown's loitering.
We're due for just a no name.
Just the way the world works, you know, a Todd Hamilton kind of, yeah, I feel like Dan Brown's
going to stick around tomorrow. And so I have new miss blottering.
Why Dan versus Lawrence?
Because I think Lawrence got the easy side of the draw too. And, and I, so you could argue, maybe
they, they don't, they didn't waste as much energy. So I would be here for that argument as well. But
I feel like, uh, you know, Brown kind of, until the 18, he kind of balled out today. Like he got some bad breaks, caught some
really awful bunker spots and he kind of, he didn't like lose
it. And he's playing with Lowry who kind of lost it. And, and
he was able to keep his rig intact, which I thought was
impressive for kind of a first time major dude.
Is before we move on is JT is JT loitering at all? Or back and he's probably, I haven't checked this,
but I assume made more birdies
than anybody else on the golf course.
I'd be surprised, I really would.
I think he's lingering.
If he shot 40 on that nine,
he would be leading the golf tournament.
If he shot 40 on that nine,
he would have been in worse weather this afternoon.
That's true.
Joaquin's T40 with two quintuple bogeys.
Captain Quinn.
Well, and then, well, lastly, I mean, we haven't talked to any Scotty.
He couldn't make anything today with his putter, Officer Gillis, as DJ has aptly named it.
Officer Gillis would not cooperate, as DJ would say.
But God, then he gets himself out of jail by hitting
a three wood to three feet on 17. Straight up one of the best shots ever. Ever. Of all time.
But may not have been the best shot on that hole today as Seawoo Kim did ace it.
Exactly. So it's like he is the universal solvent. My Aquaman is hanging out. There was so much water
out there today that he kind of got diluted. Nobody really noticed it. But I mean, my, you know, Aquaman is hanging out. There was so much water out there today that he kind of got diluted. You know, nobody really noticed it.
Uh, but I mean, Scott, he's right there too.
Back a hundred percent loitering.
I'm, I'm, I'm very concerned about Scotty.
Scotty was 78th today in strokes, gain putting amongst the 80 players that made
the cut, um, of course, of course, in the field and strokes gained approach right
now, uh, tapping all happening again. Does it feel
like a Scotty week though for sure like it? He never wins
these weeks where he can't make the putts like he always ends
up two shots short and you're like, David, if you just had a
normal week, you to one by six. And that's why the way he
flights the golf ball like he's the one that hitting it low,
you got to go low tomorrow. You got to go low. Yeah, but he's the one.
He's the guy that can do that, right?
Like if the putter gets hot, it's like he's already
doing the hard stuff.
Well, let me ask you this.
I think it's between the two of them.
There's a match up bet.
Who's who?
Who are you taking between Xander and Scotty?
Scotty Xander.
Well, why don't we put it to the test?
We're about to have our auction.
We're going to do our
We've done this segment a couple times now everybody gets $10 and we're going to go around to like an auction draft
You have to nominate somebody for the minimum of $1 and it's an open auction
Anyone can decide how much you want to bid on that player
But you only have $10 and you have to try to draft the winner out of it
You got a bill of team fantasy fantasy golf team here, if you will.
That, and first up is gonna be Neil.
You can nominate any player you want
for any dollar amount you want,
then it is open for bidding.
All right, I'm the auctioneer.
I'm gonna close it whenever I feel like it too.
All right, Xander for six bucks.
Whoa!
That's a big buy.
I'm gonna smoke him out early.
Yeah, God. Kind of made it on fun.
Crack on.
No, no, no.
I'm sorry.
Well, I think that's probably the price.
Yeah, just that was that was price marks.
I know you kind of just kicked the goddamn door down a little
bit on that one.
All right, you got yours.
Oh, god.
Unless you want to
Griffin for sure gonna win. He's for sure gonna win. I'll back off. I'll back off. Okay. I will nominate. I'm going home with the Stegosaurus. I will nominate Shane
Lowry for $1. Bold. Yeah, all yours. Sold to the man in the blue.
The blue outfit.
The man in the blue hat, the blue shorts, and the blue shirt.
I'll take him. DJ, you're up.
I will nominate Russ Henley for $1.
I'll go Russ Henley for $2.
I'll take him for three.
I'll take him for three.
I had no intention of purchasing him.
Yeah, I'm gonna stop.
So Neil's got $1 left.
Yeah.
Neil, you got a good team though.
That is good.
I know, I like my chances.
Shit.
TC, you're up.
A good team rose for $2.
$3. Four. Rose for two dollars three dollars four really look at you guys you're reeling you don't know that do I hate my team already I got I got a rose for for
David I'm forming the European Ryder Cup team over here.
Neil, you're back up.
You got to have one dollar.
Peter, Peter.
You say it like it's a bad thing.
All right, I'll take Angels and Demons, Dan Brown, one dollar.
Two dollars.
Just cause he.
Cause DJ needs to get somebody on his team.
Exactly.
He is sold, I don't want him.
That would have been too good of a team for Neil again. That would have been too good and too fun
We can't give him all those guys. I
Will take Scotty Scheffler for five dollars
Mmm six dollars. I knew it. I was I played that wrong
TC I played that wrong. TC.
I'm good.
All right. Right.
He is sold to the pie man.
So teams, uh, Neil so far we have Xander for six and Henley for three for Neil.
I have Lowry and Rose for a total of five.
DJ has Brown and Scotty for a total of seven.
TC is about to dot the board here.
Uh, and I believe that is up to nomination total of eight.
Just so you know, Dan Brown was $2.
Oh, he was sorry.
I was wrong.
The sheet. Um, he was, sorry, I was wrong on the sheet.
Who's left?
I will take,
I'll take Justin Thomas for a dollar.
T.C., can I borrow a dollar and put in two?
You've got him.
You've got him.
If I can have more money for the Masters next year.
Cash considerations for next year. Competitive balance picks.
All right, TC, your nomination.
Let's go Sam Burns for $3.
Yeah, take him.
He's yours.
Cool.
It's all yours.
Neo, you're up.
Yeah, I'll take Billy Ho for a dollar.
Take Billy Ho for $2. I thought he's gonna I'll take him for three. I'll take him for
four. I'll take him for five. I'll take him for six. Let's go. Whoa! Come on! I can't beat it. Can't do it. I can't
beat it. Alright TC, I appreciate you putting your literal money where your
mouth is there. Who's left now? We've got, we've covered all of the top seven. I mean
Adam Scott, we haven't talked about Adam Scott. We've covered all the top nine. I have about $5 to spend somehow. So Neil's up.
Uh yeah, Adam Scott for a dollar. I'll take him for two. That's fun, Sully.
I will take Sung Jay for a dollar. You know how much money Sung Jays made this year? I looked it up.
$5 million.
Cool, remember when the money list winner used to win like
3.6. Yeah, that's something that I haven't even seen him on my
TV's made $5 million. It's crazy. He and Ted Scott are
probably neck and neck. It's probably pretty close. The way
I got you.
What you got? Sorry, one dollar. Yep, nobody can beat anybody
now, so it's...
Adam Scott is off the board, right?
I mean, I'll take Tristan Lawrence for a dollar.
He's still on.
He's still on?
I think, right?
You've gotten bodied at your own game.
I hate this game. I'm trying to run it here.
I totally missed that. That was a whiff on me.
Wow, what a freebie.
Wait, can I beat you still?
Five, seven.
Yeah, I'll take him for two.
I have that left.
All right, sorry, Bones out.
Inspiring.
All right.
No, TC's up.
You're out of money, Solly?
Yes.
Okay.
I'll go with Ryan Fox for a dollar.
Did he make the cut?
Yeah, he's T70. Fox for a dollar Yes, t70
All right, Neil your final thing is you off did somebody take sung J I did yeah you did
Now you know what I want John Catlin I really like the way he's looked over on the live tour in with the crushers
I'm gonna take
True I watched him in Nashville. Yes
He's got a single
Anybody want to challenge me there we can I'll take Sharma I know I thought take it for a dollar. Anybody want to challenge me there? We can't. We're trying to wrap this up. I'll take it. You should take Shub Sharma. I know. I thought about
it. I just, I don't know. TC. I don't know if I can get down with that. Uh, I'm going
to take John Rom for a dollar. Okay. That's fun. Plus two final pick TC. Um, nope. You're
out of my two dollars left. I didn't know we're done. $2. You're done. I was gonna take Bob McIntyre just
to just to, you know, sorry, people are pissed over here,
man. I can't I can't say it. Sorry, people are like they
said, if Sally was on this ferry right now, we would throw
them off the ferry. Did you say that? Was that you say I have
video evidence of Scott saying that I can send it to you later
if you want. I'm good. Thank you. You're also going around like telling people to say these things. I'm
99% sure at this point. Hey, can I report you saying this thing for me?
Oh, you guys, here's the script. Hold on. Yeah, I'll pull it up. Here's what
he said. You didn't hear this? Oh, man, it's fucked up.

Gosh, Shane Lowry hit out my team, by the way.
I had Dan Brown, Scotty, JT, and Ram.
I'm gonna strap in for a big day tomorrow.
Shane Lowry today on the 11th hole hits a squirter left
and hits one of Cody's guys,
one of the open radio announcers.
It stops it from going into deeper rough,
maybe potentially even going into the gorse.
And strange reaction from him after he hits his third shot
after a very good break, getting into the light rough,
gives him a, hey guys, why don't you not stay
in the middle of fucking fairway
while we're trying to hit,
which was not that well received by the folks
on the Twitter app, but a couple of outsets's two days in a row, some outbursts from
Shane at some other some folks inside the ropes. And I don't know, that was a noteworthy
moment today.
Yeah, a little, I don't know, a little whiny. Some of the some of the like, I'm so fun.
I love drinking Guinness is kind of wearing off with each one of those moments, I think.
I still love Shin Lover. It's great.
Why'd you bait us into that then?
I don't know. I thought you'd want to talk about it a little bit, get a little fired up about it.
I think he looks the part of jovial Irishman, but yeah, he might have a, he might have some, you know. A mean streak in there for sure.
Like, here's the thing.
In the middle of all the Ryder Cup stuff,
it's all just, it's a little too much.
If Shane wins, he's the defending,
he's the open champion golfer,
or the champion golfer of the year going into Port Rush
next year, plus he's the defending Port Rush champion as well.
Like that would have been really freaking cool.
But still not out of it yet. Not out of it yet.
Yeah. He's kind of out of it.
He's three back. He's not out of it. Tomorrow is gonna be bonkers. I think tomorrow is gonna be
volatile as hell. I mean, today was volatile as hell.
Like, then what would you guys say is how far back is too far back for tomorrow?
I just drafted Jon Rahm. He's six back. I could see, I mean, even feels like too far back,
but you got Adam Scott and JT there and Matthew Jordan, of course. So I think there's,
I could be talking to even, but Shane's probably where I would draw the line. Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at. I think that's I could be talking to even but Shane's probably where I would draw the line. Yeah, that's that's kind of where I'm at
I think that's probably right. What is TC?
Give us some give us update on what are your models saying?
And what's the eye test over there for weather because I think that kind of impacts the how far back is too far back
Conversation as well. This just came out if you guys see that it's kind of it's kind of that your mini Cooper
No, it's not it's the neighbors
uh but you see the ails of creating the sunset it's totally like clear skies now which is nuts
um the models are saying it's not going to be like shitty tomorrow uh this is courtesy of the
museum just pulled it up this has been spot on for most of the week i've been saying it's going to be easy they were sitting on the broadcast but it's showing 14 degree 14 miles an hour out of the southwest with gusts to 22 miles an hour which like again that's like in the town of trune like when you get closer to the coast like that's going to be a similar to Friday yeah I apologize I misspoke TC won't think's windy, but I think that qualifies a windy day.
No, I mean, I'll be just it just it wasn't that windy compared to the last two or three days. In the Hossitality tweet.
It wasn't. But tomorrow is supposed to be pretty sunny. This is according to the European model.
Pretty sunny, maybe some passing clouds or passing showers.
But yeah, like the weird thing is the winds kind of peak around 10, 11 a.m. and then they
die.
They kind of die back off right around four.
So it should be pretty calm actually coming down the stretch tomorrow and relatively frisky
right around 12, you know, noon to 2 p.m. So could be bad news for some of
the chasers I think. Soly, is that southwest? Is that the opposite wind? Normally it's like
today was out of the northwest. Today was more northerly, yes. Southwest was kind of what we saw
more in the earlier part of the week. So more.
That was what guys got in their practice rounds.
They kind of which means like down.
So it's kind of saying on the way.
It's all the left coming in off the left coming in.
OK, all right. So it's in the slightly helping off the left coming in,
slightly helping off the left coming in.
Got it.
So
which honestly like that can play a pretty freaking big factor of who's the who's who's capable of hitting the shot that holds up.
Well, and like if it's if it's if it's howling early, I mean,
KVV posted his story about the poster stamp earlier today, and
sitting out there yesterday in the winds, I think if it's
howling early, when these guys are playing the postage stamp,
that could be in especially coming out of the southwest, that's kind of dead into the teeth of it
when they're playing the postage stamp.
That could be pretty, pretty provocative.
How about a whole living up to the hype?
Like I asked you guys on the preview pod, like after you played it, like, Hey, is this
whole overrated underrated?
I mean, at this point, I think it's rated very high.
I still think it was underrated. I mean, it has been awesome to watch all week. A lot has happened there.
It's been a deciding hole of this tournament.
Yeah. Shane hit a bad one today. I mean, went out of the bunker over the green and then
compare that to like Little Eye last year at Hoylake that was supposed to be, to be, everybody was talking about that in the lead up to everything.
17, right?
Yeah, it didn't really come out to really anything last year.
It felt kind of contrived.
Whereas this is, it's not like it's a short hole and it's kind of quirky, but it's also
been really substantive, I think.
That was sick.
Yeah.
If you go check out nolangup.com for it to read Katie V's piece on the postage stamp from yesterday
But both Brown in the final group both Brown and and Lowry followed each other into the coffin bunker brown made bogey
Lowry made double Brown also hit the green on the poster stamp playing the seventh hole with his tee shot
Which was sick and then hit it like two feet. Yeah. Yeah, then brought to an awesome spot
That seems to be the best way to play this mega angle. Yeah. Yeah. Then it brought to an awesome spot. That seems to be the best way to play this.
Mega angle. Yeah. Billy and Rose, they're walking by,
kind of laugh with him about how genius that play was.
But what? And then Brian hit another one on 14.
Like he pulled it 50 yards left. Any, any of the easiest?
If I made a super cut of Daniel Brown's tee shots today and showed it to you guys and asked you to tell me what he shot
I mean, I just don't think you guys are coming up with 73. I
Mean, it was just unbelievable roller coaster round of golf for him today. I mean you guys think that that
smoking a cig
Like that's a performance enhancer. I
Got a buddy one of my buddies Brett Brett, he's been in my texts all day.
He said, I don't think that popping in a Zin or smoking a cig should be allowed.
It's not like you can take a shot on like the 16th tea.
He's very adamant that you should be allowed.
I think you can take a shot.
I think you can drink alcohol.
You can?
Yeah, I think technically you could.
Is it a PJ tour like player, like conduct unbecoming?
Maybe since you've been on the PJ Tour.
Well, would smoking a SIG B on the PJ Tour?
I don't.
Don't think so.
I mean, I guess the question is,
Tee-Tee, if it's, yeah, I think Keiradek would say you can.
Yeah.
The barn rat.
I cannot stress enough how little,
like Daniel Brown wasn't even trying to get
on the par fours and two on the back nine.
Like he was just like, like the greens weren't even clear and he's just like, yeah, I'm just gonna lay this up real quick.
Yep. I'm gonna go ahead. He had, he had his drive 237 yards on 11 and had 263 and ended up making a double bogey on that hole.
On 15, he had his drive 234 yards, had 264. Hit his second shot 41 yards short of the green.
On 13, he hit his drive 231 yards, had 238 in.
That did not make it all, or he had to punch that out into the fairway as well.
It was just, I've never seen that.
I don't ever recall seeing Xander hitting three woods into 15.
Xander could not reach 15 into
Shane Lowry pulled driver on 17 coming down this both guys pulled driver in the final group coming
down the stretch could not reach there. It must have been soft out there because it wasn't windy.
Xander's only got 190 ball speed so we got to see somebody who actually moves it a little bit.
Billy flushed a three-wheeler. the hole is also like 5'10".
Yeah, into the wind. Yeah, it was, it was, it was, I've never
seen that. I don't ever recall even that, that one windy, weird
cold afternoon, we got it Augusta a couple years ago,
where like, Ram was hitting fairway wood into 18. Like,
that's the only time I could think of where all of a sudden
guys, I mean, Ram almost drove 18 green yesterday and guys were
hitting like four irons into it today was, was quite the shift. It's just awesome. So it makes this
championship the best freaking week. Which goes back to the argument about like, why do you like
this versus Valhalla? It's because day to day it's going to be different. That's awesome. Yeah.
That's just awesome. I don't know how else to say it. Like I just, I truly feel that way.
Yeah, that's just awesome. I don't know how else to say it. Like I just I truly feel that way. Yeah.
It's gonna be like 2029.
We're gonna be like another one more thing about Valhalla. Just
one more thing.
I do like the falling water of Valhalla though. I will always
feel that way. I'm way on the waterfalls.
A lot of questions. Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
a lot of questions coming in. Platinum Polly, you know, in there, Steven Wright was asking just a lot of people were asking for Randy's apology to Daniel Brown
He didn't want to talk about him last night
I wanted to but Randy wouldn't let me so we'll get there on Saturday if he's still in contention
He did double a busy course. He was new dog. He's walking his dog right now. Yeah, Randy's dog's so sick, by the way
I'm sure I don't know tomorrow night, but it's I think he's smitten with this new dog
It's gonna be already the one-man party I'm sure, I don't know if he's out tomorrow night, but it's, I think he's smitten with this new dog.
It's gonna be a one man party.
Which I was over on Aaron, I was trying to get Sir Wolfchester
to send him a care package.
Maybe a bedtime bone.
The new US Ryder Cup captain is gonna fit in very well
with the Preston set by the previous Ryder Cup captain.
I was looking for the actual source on this, but this was sent to me. Keegan walked over to the rope line and
just got in a fan's face at one point. And I don't know what exactly this was all about, but
I don't know if he's getting heckled or whatever it was, but got in a fan's face.
If anyone has the video source of this, I would be, I'm all ears. My DMS are very open on this,
but I am so in Keegan has the same stance from
Harding park with, he's got his like, you want to go stance.
And that's what it's just, I don't know. I, for the people
listening, I, I encourage you to go, uh, you know, go to
YouTube and, and, and watch this section. We're at what? 53
minutes. It's just like this Keegan truly looks like, are
you good? What do you want to do? You gonna hit me? Let's go
right now. Do the same thing with him and as back back in the
day, which the guy is talking to. Looks like he's about what
6466. Yeah. God, I was sick back at that. That Harding Park
event. Neil, that's the week we met. Remember that it was. Yes,
it was great event match play. Yeah. Guys, anybody that that
kind of spit the bit today that you're disappointed in
Lowry would qualify for that one. I was kind of internally crowning him
It looked like he was gonna win this thing and he I mean he shot six over a 77
He was one under through seven holes as well. So I mean he played the last
You know 11 holes in seven over par
I mean, I think probably not too much to ask. Waco probably shouldn't keep making quints.
That's unlucky.
You know, professional golfer fruit.
He's making fruit.
Let's get rid of that.
I think Scheffler disappointed me a little bit today.
I mean, but then the more, the longer I sit with it, the more I'm like, well,
he kind of kept himself in it as well.
The, you know, to, to not have it with the putter, but it was just like, God,
dude, this is just sitting here for you to take because he's hitting the ball so
good.
So I don't, I I'm, I'm undecided on whether he spit the bit or not.
I don't know if that's the right word, right.
Term for it.
Colin for me, like Colin was too under on his front nine. He was, uh, even park going
to the back nine and then, you know, kind of like, he should be right there. I think
he'd be going for his second open championship, third major. Um, I think can't lay the pat
in the hat. Yeah. Uh, P P can, uh. You know, you got him there. He's same kind
of thing. Struggled kind of that middle stretch. And then Dean Bermester, he had that crispy
stinger rain suit on. He was right in the mix. Shot 41 on the back nine coming in. And
you know, he was right there and he was like two under
right in the mix and finished three over.
Corey Connors shot 80 as well just for what that I know I don't know if people
were expecting much from him but just a bit of a like Canadians what you know
this is kind of well why you guys don't know.
That's what we've been saying for 200 years guys.
That's what we've been talking about.
Okay.
You know, show us something guys.
Come on.
This is what we've been talking about since 1812.
There's gotta be a Canadian driving his car
55 minutes into this show.
It's just like, no, there's nothing,
like they're not really involved in this.
Like this is where there's no way we're gonna get it.
It kind of just random.
Oh my God, What a fucking shot.
I did. I mean, those guys are like, Evan.
It's like, well, how come you didn't talk about Cory Connors?
It's like, well, that like that's why.
KVV and I met a couple of delightful Canadian guys from Montreal today,
and they were trying to get us to come up for the President's Cup.
We will not be doing that.
We're not going to be president.
They were really they were really pissed at you, Sally.
They said they wanted to throw you over the ferry.
I got them on camera too.
I got them.
They said the same thing.
It's crazy.
After they got done talking, they were super pissed at you, Sally.
If I can be pissed at Sally.
Bogey free 78 as well.
Or I'm sorry, birdie free 78.
Bogey free 78 would well. Or I'm sorry, birdie free 78. Bogey free 78 would be really epic.
Yeah.
Bob, I wanted to see something from Bob today
besides a bad shirt.
And he didn't really show it to us today
after that immense effort yesterday.
I didn't think you guys gave him his flowers enough.
He slurped Max on the pod.
Well, I talked to Lacey for a bit today. He slurped Max on the pod walked to the lacy for a bit today you
see a slurp max on the pod didn't give bob his flowers so i don't know if that's totally true
that's we've we've been uh we're we're what an hour into this thing calum scott the amateur uh
shot 70 today 100 par 70s t25 at the moment tc how did play today? I don't know. He might have been down
at Presswick or up in Western Gales. TBD. We'll see. Same with Red League.
We're tacking on that extra hour at Waffle House. We're going 25.
Okay, good. I do think it's required that there's a public statement that that 25th
hour is happening. Shout out to Ed Norton. Well, it's really just an extra waffle,
basically. Also, I do want to, KVV's alerted me to this. And I said earlier on the pod that
Billy Horschel played well in majors. He has played well. He's played well in two majors.
One of them was the 2013 US Open at Marion, which incidentally, Team Rose won.
Billy shot eight. He made 18 pars in the same round. And that's always that will always
leave an indelible mark on me. He played well there and then he played well at Valhalla,
which obviously, you know, that was a major. So
major right now. Go look at the Learboard at Valhalla.
Exactly.
a major right now. Go look at the leaderboard of Valhalla.
Exactly. On that note, I do feel like I didn't fully appreciate Zander's round today. Like two under in that month. Billy shot two under and it looked a lot different than Zander's did, but
that was a really, really, really, really good round of golf. And we're too used to seeing that.
And didn't properly highlight that. To that point, I think the question is you look down this
leaderboard and I think it was the most stress-free round of the day of all the guys on the first
page.
It feels like Xander had the least amount of stress and he definitely struggled in spots,
but it was like, oh, he has control over things.
Whereas like Horschel is like, you know, summoning some stuff to complete it.
Like, you know, he just, he's all fired up and it's taken a lot of energy
to get to that same number.
I'd nominate Scotty for having the least amount of stress in
terms of getting, instead of other than getting the ball into
the hole. Or you're saying you're saying complete, like
holding the ball.
I'm just saying complete gate, like just it looked a little
easier for Xander than it did for anybody else
I felt like other than that he put in that bunker on 18
That was kind of the only blemish on the back nine
I can really think of it was like ah man that and that was kind of like they didn't even think it was gonna get
To the bunker so I got that he said to his cat like I that can't be in the bunker no way into this wind
But listen ball speed is speed brother nukes the ball Him hitting 185 ball speed in that shit, like I could not, that stunned me.
I could not fathom it.
Dan Brown was hovering around like 161 today.
I hit 250 when we were out.
That's true.
That's very true.
There's a great question.
Yeah, sorry, real quick. The guy that I feel like has kind of let one slip away a little
bit is Adam Scott. I think with the 500 today and he played really well around one.
Got away from him today.
No, I mean, 77 yesterday.
Yeah, got away from him yesterday.
Hasn't made a double yet this week. You know, and really
didn't, I don't know, he just kind of, it just slipped away
from yesterday. He's even par shot 77 yesterday, 66 today.
And I don't know, Scotty, like, it's like, you want to see him
win, win an open championship, because I think it would, it
would be such a feather in his cap for a great career. And, you
know, it's kind of the international major, you want to
see him win one
I'm like team Rose this came out after we had already started the show last night about Rory saying, you know
You know 22 holes into this tournament. I was thinking about where I was gonna go on vacation this week
Like and watching the some of the dudes that battle back Bob McIntyre
Max and all that like that was a does a tough quote and all it gets even tougher
when you see what you could have got out of this morning in terms of the weather and playing yourself right back into this tournament and JT playing it back to being even par after shooting 45 on the front yesterday.
That was just a, that was not the, you know, not the quote we're looking for out of our guy. The definition of when keeping it real goes wrong. Yeah. Like I appreciate in a way, I appreciate Roy for saying that.
Like if he was thinking that it's more just like, ah, I just wish you weren't thinking that.
But, you know, also like, hey, thank you for being honest.
Yeah. I mean, I think he's also at a point in his career where he is looking to win,
you know, and he's not looking to battle back and, oh man, I really turned a miscut into a T 28.
But that's where the cat was special, right?
Where like, you know, like the cat didn't, didn't miss cuts for, you know, and, and Grorys
what?
34, 35.
Like he's not, he's not an old dude, right?
Like, Hey, take pride in your craft a little bit instead of, Hey, am I going to Turks and
Caicos
or Mauritius next week on vacation? But that's also where I go back to that word urgency
with this week of like, I'm sure some of these guys on the leaderboard are like, man, Bryson missed
the cut, Rory missed the cut, like all of our picks, Tommy missed the cut. I thought Ludwig was
going to win. Ludwig missed the cut. You know, these guys are like, man, this is my chance.
Like some of the, yeah, Scotty and Xander are still there and they're lurking, but it's like, God, this is a great
opportunity if I can just not beat myself with this weather. This is such a good chance for me
to clip one when nobody expected it. And I just love that vibe that seems to be permeating the
leaderboard. And I love that there still are the top two golfers in the world.
They're right there waiting to break everybody's heart.
And the storyline there is historic.
Again, Xander might win two or four majors.
That's fucking crazy.
We're talking about how like, dead.
That would be tough.
Because he hasn't won a major yet.
And all of a sudden he's going to get two or four.
Like whoa, crazy.
Yeah.
That would be tough for my platform.
If Xander.
It would be very tough.
It might be time to revisit that platform TC because I was with you for a long time
on backdoor Xander and house cat and he's not the same dude anymore.
Different guy this year.
I don't know.
Maybe he's-
We'll see.
Maybe he is tomorrow, right? I picked him on Thursday. I haven't heard. Come on.'t want you guys. We'll see. Maybe he is tomorrow, right?
I haven't heard.
Come on. Tried to warn you guys about Xander.
Yes. I told you the ball speed is different. The strokes game. The whole profile was checking out different this year.
Like he changed this year.
Statistical profile can be one thing, but it's hitting the shots down the stretch.
And honestly, he I think it's all hollow.
He's, you know, got two feet in that bunker and the bunker's at fairway grade.
So he tried to gag it away and on a real course he would have.
So I think we'll see if he can do it tomorrow.
That bunker was at fairway grade before he teed off as well.
He knew that was totally fine right there.
So how's the block party going?
Block party, we closed the tab yesterday and you know, I brought it. Okay.
Employee.
Employee.
You tried to warn us about Rory too.
So I just want to be fair here.
Like,
Oh, this is what I fixed.
We're not good this week, Neil.
This is what they were not good.
I haven't picked.
I haven't picked Xander all week.
Believe me.
I have empathy.
I have not, but I have not picked Xander all week.
I picked Scotty after Thursday once Rory shot out of the bed.
No, I, they sent me out.
We did not reach our minimum.
They sent me home with a lot of bottles of wine,
three cartons of wine that I had to reach to get to my minimum.
We'll be passing those out when people come over.
They'll be housewarming gifts for years to come.
It's fantastic stuff.
Yeah, we'll let some of that stuff age.
A good question here from at lairdyboy.
Has 90% of the world's golf courses
got their bunkering wrong?
As far as just not having pop bunkers?
Yeah, just probably like the lairdyboy.
Wrong, the way a lot of golf we see in the US especially
is like, hey, if you're offline,
you might find a bunker here.
Or like, there's not a lot of bunkers in your way.
There's not a lot of funneling balls into bunkers.
There's not a lot of, you know, just like,
when you stand up on a tee, like anywhere in the US,
you don't like think about, I have to avoid this bunker.
Like that's my goal here is to avoid this bunker.
And it's not a full shot.
You're not playing enough good courses.
You don't think about that, dog.
You go walk a mile in one point.
Well, but watching the program, I know what Larity Boy is trying to say and
Solly, which is-
Twisting it.
No, no, I'm not twisting it.
Not you. DJ's twisting it.
I was just saying like, it has to do with the firmness in the fairways, but I'll call
a specific bunker out. The one on the potion stamp where the ball goes in backwards, I
would love to see more of that at courses where it's like, oh, no, he's going to
miss these two bunkers. He's going to roll between them. Oh, no, it's not. It's going to roll and
funnel back around the water slides where you're like, no, it's all going to one place.
Yeah, but here's the thing. If that happens, JT is going to complain about it, and then they're
going to change it the next year when they host the tournament. That's the thing. It's a player-run
organization with the PGA Tour. If the guys don't like something, they're like, Oh, that's,
that's, that's inherently unfair.
But there was like a one week pass from that with the open championship.
Uh, you know, Oh man, I got a bad bounce.
Cool.
That's links golf.
That doesn't fly in the States of like, Oh, I got a bad balance.
That's, you know, that's unfair.
That's bad architecture.
Right.
Well, I think where I was hoping to go with that question is
also like, everything still ties back to the firm soil. Like,
look, there's like, you can ask 12 different questions. Like,
why is this different in the UK? And it's like, well, again,
unpack it all ends up back at loose at firm soil, right? I've
like, if you put a pop bunker, you know, 20 yards short of a par
five in the US,
that's no problem because guys are gonna cover it
and get their ball to stop.
But like on a links course,
you have to navigate your way around that
because you have to land it short
to run it all the way up.
And like that's the whole essence of the game.
And it permeates all the way back to the tee.
You're trying to get balls to stop in the UK
and in the US you're almost never trying
to get your drives to stop.
You're trying to get them to go, go, go, go, go.
So it's not as simple as just taking pop bunkers and placing them in the US, you're almost never trying to get your drives to stop. You're trying to give them the go, go, go, go, go. So it's not as simple as just taking pop bunkers and placing them in the US.
But I do think there is a, there are elements of designing bunker placement
that could be a lot more different than just like putting them on the sides of
fairways, basically like that's kind of where I think there's, there's also the
nature of the bunkers as well of like, if they're truly penal, if they're truly like, hey, this is a half shot penalty or this is a full shot penalty if
you're in this bunker.
There's a little bit of that in the Northeast up in New England.
And then I think the other thing too is it's the time of year that the PGA tour plays certain
courses when, you know, like they play Riviera even in the softest, most benign time of the
year for LA. If like, remember watching the USM at Riviera when Doc Redmond won there,
it was a completely different golf course and it was firm, fast and all that. Like,
not only does the PGA Tour play pretty soft golf courses and then soften them up, they
also, they also play play almost every place they play
at the wrong time of the year,
which I don't think can be overstated either.
Firm soil is only, you can come to prune in March
and it's gonna be softer and spongier and all that too.
I guess if you were gonna translate something,
or bring something across the pond,
I think the concept of pot bunkers,
just almost making the bunkers smaller,
but like TC saying, more penal would be,
I'd like to see more of that.
It might stick out, because it's not really the style,
but it feels like most-
Or like the pace of play, please.
Yeah, also go watch some like beginner golfers try to get out of bunkers and sure.
I think we've just, it's like, I'm talking about it for the pro game, Dej,
like specifically. And that's where I think they're there.
We're just the Delta between regular people golf and pro golf is just needing
even the Delta bigger and bigger, which is not possible.
But even the Delta between like the way that like, I don't know,
I've been playing golf over here for a week and a half now and like they're, they're very like, they take pace of play
seriously over here. Whereas in the States, it's like you're riding around in a car drinking beers.
Yeah. And, you know, and like, there's not that same it's, hey, you're going out and like,
engaging in sport here versus there. It's like, all right, cool. We're going to go drink some beers
and get away from life for four or five hours. I brought that question up as a way of also
backing into like you just, you can't copy what they have over there. And a lot of places around
the world, it just doesn't work the same. The styles of like what you said, TC, like what golf
is there is very different than what golf is in the US or
Canada or you know in mainland Europe in a lot of places. Which is fine. Yeah, right. I think there
is still some principalling though of like of putting bunkers where you're trying putting
having bunkers play more as hazards and putting them where you're trying to hit the ball is
a interesting aspect of
like, it's mostly punishing. You guys make fun of me for my
Pacific Dunes takes but like that what I just described there
is more likely to punish a lower handicap player than a higher
handicap player because a higher handicap players not really in
control of their ball anyways, and it might go around the
bunker to left might go around the bunker to the right but it's
like, you start putting stuff more towards the middle lines
and the better players have to figure out their way around it and the instead of putting stuff on the sides
the worst player is going to end up in those bunkers more often than the better players anyways
and they're already going to get punished they don't even need the punishment that much over
there and you're you're punishing the wrong people for for for you know in terms of enjoyment of the
game that's kind of my overall stance on the something else too is the the wind it's the way
like if there's crazy wind and the wind direction changes,
so many more bunkers are in play, right?
Where there's, you know, most like aerial game in the States,
there's less wind, most courses, you know, not on the coast.
And you're going to be flying it over those bunkers and they can't move the bunkers
far enough back.
Whereas here it's like, all right, bunkers that were out of play on Thursday, we're now
guys can't even get to them today.
So there's, there's that give and take as well.
Before we move to the last segment, I would like to call out a question from Greg94McClellan.
Is Billy Ho officially in no nipple nash with his chipping?
I really appreciated this from my guy Greg94.
That was for you.
I would, but I would also say that that goes
to the sustainability models.
I'm worried about Billy Ho tomorrow,
and for that reason, his entry into no nipple nash.
So thank you.
Let's look at the odds.
We have the Fandl odds, of course,
courtesy of Fandl Sportsbook,
and of course subject to change.
But anything sticking out in terms of, I mean, we've kind of made our draft picks.
We've said what we're gonna take, but once you look at those odds,
what's jumping off the page there?
We have Xander plus 350, Scotty plus 360, Billy plus 550,
Burns 850, Rose 850, Russell Henley plus 900, Thirsty Lawrence plus 1400,
Daniel Brown plus 2200, Shane Lowry plus 2500, Adam Scott
4500, JT plus 5000, nobody else lower than plus 10,000.
I think it feels like Neil said it earlier, like it feels like
something that, you know, if I'm, if I'm placing money in
or I'm placing it on those guys like Horschel
or Henley or someone like that, that is up there and you know, you're, you got better
odds on them.
Yeah.
I think Rose and Henley are attractive.
I think it's right though.
Xander, even Scotty two back, like he should be ahead of those guys.
Like things like we saw today, things are just volatile out there.
And if he makes a few putts, uh, look out, those two are
definitely the favorites to me.
It feels like, yeah, it really feels like Scotty could be leading by the time
he gets to the, you know, the third T right.
Like if, if, uh, Billy makes a bogey early and Scotty makes a birdie or
something like that, two shots can disappear really fast.
So anytime you can get Scotty at plus 360, I think is pretty compelling.
Also just maybe thrown a little five spot on JT at plus 5,000.
He's four back and he's made so many birdies and he's played this,
clearly knows the golf course.
Can I call out a play?
I put in, Cody, I sent it to you, but
right before me and Dean sent it to you, but I, right before Dean, mean Dean, you know, came back
to earth.
I put in a top live bet.
I think, I mean, Rom's definitely going to be the top live player.
I don't think the odds are going to be the same because this was placed like live in
round, but there's, Fandil's got some good, still got some good regions markets, just
some, some creative play, some good groupings that you can go and put
a few nuggies on. So I'm excited about my mean Dean. Fading mean Dean is a big part
of my platform tomorrow.
I reached out to our friends at FanDuel and I wanted to know where these guys started
at. Billy Ho started the week plus 22,000 to win Dean Brown plus 100,000.
Dan Brown.
Dan Brown.
I love that.
Not me, Dean.
Justin Rose plus 22,000.
Russ Henley plus 12,000.
Shane Lowry plus 5,000.
In total of all the bets placed, excuse me, Scotty Sheffler coming in first.
He is riding 8.5% of total bets placed on Scotty
Shepard to win. Shane Lowry was second, six percent of total bet for him, followed by
Colin Morikawa 4.3 and Ludwig 3.9. They all beat Rory, who was at 3.8 percent of total
bets placed.
How about people chasing the Belugas plays? I love to hear that. Getting some moving
market. The balloon is moving markets. Unbelievable. How does
he do it? How does he do it? I hadn't heard of this. No, Neil
told me about this Ludwig guy.
Supposed to be good. Ludwig's crazy, man.
He's the only one of the Schuster brothers I've heard
about this Ludwig guy for 100%.
I think going back to the numbers, Cody.
The main odds, I think Shane being at plus 2,500
and being minus one, so he's three back,
whereas Scheffler's one ahead of him and he's plus 350.
There seems to be a disconnect.
And I know Scottie's obviously
the best player in the world,
but there seems to be a disconnect there.
Also I'll shout out some of the,
some of the 72 hole matchup plays,
you're still live for them and you can get, you know,
there's like some, it's like Brian Harmon
versus Aaron Rye or Hoyegaard versus Norrin.
Like there's some, there's some pretty provocative stuff
in there if you want to kind of stake your name on
Something real sick. Oh shit. I would say man if I could you could I don't see a specific one of these
But sometimes they'll do like Xander or Shafle basically Xander and Shafle verse the field or Xander and Scotty verse the field
I feel like I would sprinkle both of
Xander at plus 350 Scotty plus 360
It feels it
feels like one of those guys to me if I had to if I had to say
and you can still get that plus money versus the field, which
you know, I don't know that that that feels like the safest
because literally who the fuck knows what else is going to
happen with the rest of this. It's it's it's gonna be a crap
shoot.
Hey, sorry, before we pivot and start round and third on the way
to home here to I have a new tool for all of our live show participants. So if everybody who's sticking
with us right now, all 4,300 of them, if you guys want to get in the live chat and use hashtag the
open, I'm not joking right now either. I realize how this all sounds. Use hashtag the open. I'm
gonna draw a winner on this sweepstakes tool that I have. Sick!
And get it mailed your way.
KVV's over here giving out Macbook Pros.
KVV's gonna be dropping the open.
Well, what's the sweepstake, Cody?
What are you giving away?
I don't know.
I got a lot of stuff sitting in this office, partially because we're sitting around the house
on these long days watching the open
and you're always like, you know your office,
you got a lot of stuff going in there right now.
A true mystery box from the Sarge?
Sure.
Sign me up for that.
I might have to pipe in a hashtag the open.
Just cause to show everybody, I'm not kidding.
I'm gonna pull it up right now.
We got 99 entries so far.
Let's get that number up. I don't know what the other 4,300 of you guys are
doing. Come on. Hashtag the open people dropping it. Sean put in the British open. That's not
going to work, buddy. Sorry. Uh, off, but louder. Who's a, who are you picking?
Who's your gun to your head?
Pick.
Sorry.
He's already said it.
It's standard.
Sander.
Yeah.
I thought you said Scotty.
I might have I'll change it five more times tonight.
Then I'm taking Xander.
I think it's Xander.
It's DG.
I'm taking Billy. Hell yeah. Uh, I'm taking, I'm's Xander. It's DG. I'm taking Billy.
Hell yeah.
Uh, I'm taking, I'm taking Xander.
I picked him on Thursday.
I'm sticking with it.
I'll, I'll, I'll switch it back to Scotty just cause I did say that Thursday and
I'll, I'll, I'll, I have not wavered off that since Thursday officially.
And I'll keep it.
And Sally knows that Jordan's digging through the receipts.
He knows he's like, ah, damn it.
I'm in this, there's going to be a deposition
and I shouldn't lie on the record like that.
Well, there clearly has been a change with Xander
since he went over and started working with Chris Como.
I think, you know, that was a lot of the word
of all holiday week and you know,
his dad wasn't on site there.
He's clearly on site at the US Open
and he seemed to be stunting this week.
Again, TC, you can probably go track him down for some fashion advice, but
whatever they got going on him and Chris, come on.
It's it's working.
Cody, you're on Xander.
No, I like Billy.
How I honestly think, you know, you want a dog out there.
I think he I'm kind of shocked, honestly, based off what Neil said, like, it's just, I don't know, I
understand wanting it maybe too much. But I also know Billy,
like, I don't know if he's gonna he's either going to go out and
shoot like a good 66 67, or he's going to shoot an 81. And either
way, I'm okay riding with him tomorrow just to hopefully see
him, you know, raise Claire Juck.
I wasn't trying to be like dismissive of Billy like I was I true you know I respect it I
just don't I just think the way he got it done today didn't scream to me like all this
guys got it under control it felt like I think that's his everyday life dog like I don't
think he has anything sure that's that's fair that's fair but I it doesn't yeah I just I can't pick him in good conscience I can't pick him has anything. Sure. That's fair. That's fair. But I, I, it doesn't.
Yeah.
I just, I can't pick them in good conscience.
I can't pick them to win this tournament.
There's a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a,

I don't know if you can talk me through this or anything.
Trying to get us to this next segment here.
So, you can help me out.
That was my biggest thing today was just,
sorry, Toronto, I know you guys will empathize with me here.
I feel like we spent the entire months of March and April
playing in that golf, those conditions
that they played in today.
I mean, just looking back at some of the footage and video stuff that we have coming out,
it is just all rain gear, all just getting decimated by weather,
very similar to how they were today.
So it was fun to watch some players who can still tend to hit the middle of the club face out there today.
Wow, look at these artsy shots.
OMG, fellas. It was the clubface out there today. Well, look at these shots. OMG,
fellas. It was so it was bleak out there. It was bleak out there today, but it was a lot windier
on this day and a lot colder on this day. This was unlike this. He's going to die on this wind thing.
He's going to die on it. No, I'm sorry. The wind was blowing 35 or 40 when we were playing the
old course. It was blowing 10 or 15 out there today. The wind, the rain came on time today,
but it stayed a lot longer than they thought it would. It was like, it stayed really shitty till
like seven or eight PM. It was supposed to kind of clear out earlier. So it is a fun wrinkle of
the game to watch these guys with the 15 towels and you know, Billy Ho's got his caddy out there,
keeping the umbrella over him while he does his caddy out there keeping the umbrella
over him while he does his pre-shot routine.
Just the way that each guy handles the weather differently and, you know, the way that the
rain pants make them look like they're wearing baggy gear and backwards hats, like all of
it.
That's just, it adds to my viewing experience of like, I love it.
I love everything about it.
It made me want to play golf in those exact conditions so badly today.
It's kind of like the stuff that goes around about,
when you're in that actual moment, it feels pretty miserable to be playing in that stuff,
but it's kind of like raising a young kid. Everyone's like,
oh, it's miserable while you're in it, but when you're 80,
you're just going to want to be back in one of those moments for one second.
Here I am back in the US. I want to be
transported back into Scotland and play in the biggest filth
like all the shit. 30 mile an hour wind and rain right now
like double rain gloves. There's a certain level of rain and
weather where it actually gets kind of fun. Like that didn't
look fun today. But like, you got to just buck up and do it.
The in between rain is the most annoying one. But when it's just rain the whole time you just go it actually is can be really fun
You just go to battle and I'd love that part of golf
I think one of the things in life that you still like
Go out in the rain for I used to think this like when we had football practice in the rain
I used to like try to do a judo mind trick on myself
It was absolutely miserable and cold in November in New York and I'd be like yeah you know what is the only
reason I'd be out here in this rain is you know to do this I won't you know
it's like the only reason now baby reds do yeah well we're like one in one in
seven you know and yeah I think it's very much a it's really fun when it's
wind when it's really windy or really rainy it's not fun when it's wind, when it's really windy or really rainy. It's not fun when it's both.
Both is tough. And today it was really rainy today.
