All right, opening question guys is from TGL in cell, which again I somehow managed to
pick the best questions come from the people with the best absolute best handles.
TC, where does this Masters rank in terms of pre tournament excitement for you guys
compared to past years?
It's right there with I'm excited. I'm always excited and
nothing's gonna change that. I think it's I'm probably more
excited because the weather forecast looks looks pretty good
this year. It's been kind of a tough weather stretch the last
last few it seems like so I know you were bemoaning the lack of
storylines but I think that's just keeps the focus on the golf
a little bit more than it has been here in recent years.
So to me, that's a good thing.
That's a positive.
I'm looking for the golf storylines though.
That's what I'm saying.
Like it's, it's, it's playing good.
Royce Royce is sucking up a lot of energy on site.
Like that seems to be the thing that everybody keeps talking about in the
whole, I kind of thought he could sneak up on this thing and it's, it's
most definitely not, not happening. That part is not happening, the sneaking up part. Whether or not he gets it
done is still up for debate. Dej, what's your, where does this rank in pre-tournament excitement?
I think it's been great because I think there's like a, there's been like a slow accumulation of
storylines for me where coming in, I've been saying this for like a couple weeks where I'm like,
man, it's a two horse race, right? It's either Scotty or Rory, take your pick, you know, heads up, what do
you think it's going to be? Hopefully, we get them in the final group, basically. And
the more that I've gone on this week, the more I've listened to more press conferences,
more I'm like, man, I'm kind of sleeping on more cow. I forgot all this stuff he's doing.
Man, I'm kind of sleeping on Xander. I forgot everything he's got going on. Man, I'm kind
of thinking I'm sleeping on Sergio. You guys are throwing out Phil in the preview podcast,
which was asinine.
But there's all this kind of stuff that I'm like,
I almost got, Scotty Rory was kind of what got me
in the door as like I'm pumped, I can't wait.
And then it's almost like there's all these other courses,
TC, that I'm like, oh my God, I forgot I can have a little
bit of this, I've got some finger foods over here that I can dabble. I can have some slud bit gonna do who knows, you know, sliders.
Oh, right. John Rom. I haven't had a John Rom in years. I love John Rom's, you know, and so it's,
I think that puts it in a great spot. And it's kind of a can't lose.
I'm as excited as I have been in recent years, just because I'm
ready to ride this wave. It's almost no secret as to what my
pick is going to be for for who to win this is going to win
this. And it's your last one lifetime. It's the only one only
one I'm going to use in my lifetime. And we're going to get
to all that. And that's not a secret. I've not kept the secret
very well as to where I'm going to end up here. Been welcome
back with open arms, which I was worried about, you know, I was
kind of worried about how that we received. It's like, you know know visiting a ballpark for a team you were once a part of but you left
What are they gonna do? It's gonna be a tribute video, you know as I'm welcome back into the stable
I don't know but it really it really feels like for once we're good. He
Feel like I should be putting on the clown makeup as we go into it
It feels like they were gonna get out
We're not gonna put ourselves behind the eight ball in the first nine holes.
It feels that way.
You're shaking your head.
Deeds, like you don't agree.
I just don't think we need to talk about it.
I'm shaking my head in agreement in that past results do not indicate future returns.
Right?
Like, yes, that stuff has happened in the past.
And yes, he's also the best player in the world right now.
You know, I don't think you need to run from that.
It's okay.
It's okay to predict that it's gonna go different this time.
This is a safe place.
Yeah, let it rip, man.
Well, we got some press conference stuff
we wanna get through before we get to our picks.
And of course, Rory is gonna take the lead on this one.
There was a question that said,
you made a comment when you left the players
in the golf channel set that you'd be willing
to get your heart broken and you had a spell
where you just didn't want to do that.
Why do you think that was? And what have you figured out about that? And Rory said,
I think it's a self-preservation mechanism. We're all, you know, it's more of a thing that where
you're not, where you're trying to not put a hundred percent of yourself out there because of that.
It happens in all walks of life. At a certain point in someone's life, someone doesn't want
to fall in love because they don't want to get their heart broken. People, I think, instinctually, as human beings, we hold back sometimes because of the fear of getting hurt,
whether it's a conscious decision or subconscious decision. And I think I was doing that on the golf course a little bit
for a few years. It sounds like a new approach from Rory again, ahead of the Masters, which is sick. He said, But I
think once you go through that, once you go through those heartbreaks, as I call them, or disappointments,
you get to a place where you remember how it feels,
and you wake up the next day and you're like,
yeah, life goes on, it's not as bad
as I thought it was gonna be.
And I think that's the, going through those times,
especially in recent memory, where the last few years,
I've had chances to win some of the biggest
golf tournaments in the world,
and it hasn't quite happened, but life moves on.
You dust yourself off and you go again.
I think that's why I've become a little more comfortable in
laying everything out there and being somewhat vulnerable at times. Anything to glean from this, Dej?
No, I mean, I think that that squares pretty well with the introspective guy that we've, we've heard over the last
couple years, you know, losing at Pinehurst and going walking the high line looking for answers. Like Kendall Roy that we've we heard tell of. I loved Roy's presser
for a lot of reasons. He seems both like I don't think he's comfortable being the like
dickhead don't talk to me guy, which he's almost seemed like he's like kind of towed
up to at times this year. Like I think he is at his best when he is feeling like himself,
which I think all of us know is like a pretty amenable people pleasing type of
guy. But I think at the same time, he's,
he's almost seems like he's figured out where the line is on how much he needs
to let people in when it's okay to not let people in and,
and how to kind of balance those two things. So I,
I listened to him talk for a half hour and like,
it was kind of nodding my head along with everything.
I love the fact that he's reading a novel instead of like a 700th, you know,
self help book. I think that's great.
I as someone who reads a lot of self help books themselves, uh, that's a,
that's a dangerous road to go down, man.
You gotta read one and then you gotta read another and another and another and
another and pretty soon you don't know what's, uh, so I like that he's just, he's checking out, was he reading like a John
Krishnam novel or something?
I mean, that's, that's perfect, man.
It sounds like he's in the head space.
If he's going to do it, it sounds like he's in the headspace to do it.
Anything, anything from what you're hearing out of him, uh, TC that makes you
think any differently about him this week?
Differently than what?
Then, then you have maybe in the past or the,
Oh, I mean, I think he played some of the best golf of his career at Pinehurst
and I think he's continued that on over the fall and into this spring.
So, no, I think it's almost a double-edged sword because I think he's playing so well right now
and he seems to have such a good grasp of his golf game
and strengthening some of what were his
weaknesses to the point of, man, if he doesn't get it done this year, like, it's going to leave an
even bigger hole. And we're kind of right back to where we started. So that's where I'm at with the
one and done thing is like, you know, it's, it's lining up really well for this one. And maybe
that's really short-sighted because I think Sergio's win certainly came at a time when it looked like
it was past his time to win a Masters and it ended up happening. But we're talking about
like I think this is like a 16th or 17th time play the Masters. Like that's a lot of attempts.
Yeah, it just seems like in the past, he's kind of spiked himself out a little bit. And,
you know, at some point, I just got to see is that going to happen again? Or is he going
to come in clearheaded?
That's the fun part.
I don't think I've ever done a new tournament.
I truly have no idea what's going to happen.
It's just a total dice roll and there's just good options on every single part of the dice.
Whereas I think in the past, there's been a very clear favorite, like whether that's been Scotty
or I think when Rom was playing really well or Tiger, you know, like, but now it's just,
it's truly like, no, there's like a dozen dudes that could, they could go out and like,
you would not be surprised if they won.
There's yeah, there's also something to, he did also, he spoke a lot for a piece that
Gabby Herzog wrote for the athletic did you guys
read that about how he was trying hypnosis and he's which kind of threw Aaron Rodgers under the
bus yeah he did that for UTC uh he might need to do his own research on Aaron Rodgers process but uh
he he kind of had some quotes in there about like how long ago 2010 feels like, which I think kind of hit home for me. I mean, we're always about the same age as us, right? I
mean, maybe a little younger, but he starts talking about like something that happened
when you're 21. You know, I think it's natural for everybody to look at him and be like,
Oh man, remember that? That was crazy. You must be thinking about that all the time.
Like if I think back to like even big, you know,
somewhat traumatic things that happened when I was 21, I'm like, Oh, yeah, that was
like a different lifetime ago, man. I don't even remember that. It does seem like
he's, he's moved past a lot of that stuff. And TC, to your point, I think what's so
interesting about him is that, like, set the Masters aside for a minute. It's also
going on, what, 11 years since he's won a major. So it's not just the Masters aside for a minute. It's also going on what 11 years since he's won a major.
So it's not just the Masters. It's every one of these majors that all the spotlights are
on him for. And he just keeps turning up at all of them. Right. And he's the one consistent
guy that shows up every single time. He obviously hasn't gotten it done, but he always has a
chance to get it done. And that to me is where I'm like, I don't know, man, it feels like
this similar muscle this week would to just showing up at LACC or Pinehurst or, you know,
all these other places that he's had these close calls. Like my enthusiasm for it is comes from
the positives from LACC, the positives from Pinehurst, especially, right? I mean, it ended
horrifically for him. The putt on 18 was really
difficult. The putt on 16 was not and that's the one that he
should circle out the club decision on 15 was was was not
the right decision. And it was, I don't know, it was a I called
it a choke at the time. I don't regret saying that but it was it
almost what it can, you can react too quickly and wash away
how ridiculously good the back nine was up until
that point and how he made the movie needed to make.
He did the things he needed to do to win.
Also, he just got beat.
Yeah.
Well, he kind of still beat himself.
Yeah, but I mean, Bryson, I think that's the biggest takeaway from now versus 2010 or 2012
or 2014.
I think the floor is just a lot higher for the rest of the field.
There's everybody else is just better, a lot better than they were back then.
And golf is a lot deeper and the level of talent and the top end, like it's,
it's, it's just a different, it's a different sport these days.
I, I agree. That's kind of where I'm like,
I struggled to get super hyped on the speed train, uh, you know,
to go capture the magic of Augusta, just because it's like, I struggle to get super hyped on the Spieth train, you know, to go capture
the magic of Augusta just because it's like, man, well, if you want to talk about magic
at Augusta, you kind of can't ignore the number one player in the world. It's won two out
of the last three of these. I know Spieth has won four, but you know, there's kind of
a new master of the masters that they currently got to deal with here. But TC, what were the
main highlights for you from the from Fred Ridley's press conference?
Oh, I mean, just the expression of concern around pace of play trends. You know, like with the with the PGA Tour, it looks like DJ is going to recuse himself from this pace of play discussion here.
And you know, he just encouraged the continued focus on it. He kind of had some good positive words towards the PGA Tour kind of enacting some of their
recent announcements and everything.
And then John Hopkins had a great question.
I can't do his accent justice.
One of our British friends, but he said, I'm wondering what your reaction was on Sunday
afternoon when you saw a little mite of a golfer use the Aimpoint Aim and take some one of our British friends, but he said, I'm wondering what your reaction was on Sunday afternoon
when you saw a little mite of a golfer use the aim point,
aim and take some time to do it.
And then having lined up her putt like that,
she then went on a tour of the putt
and calling in at every compass point on the way around
and taking perhaps as much as two minutes.
I'm wondering what your reaction to that was.
Secondly, in your view of comments now about Pesa Play,
I'm wondering whether in the spirit of the great founder
who said so much about etiquette and so on and so forth,
there's even the thought that you might lead the way
in trying to encourage these young players
to get a bloody move on.
And Ridley was quite chuffed at that.
And I thought it was, he basically said, yeah, we are looking at that. And I thought it was, you know, he basically said, yeah, like we're,
we are looking at it. We will put some constraints on both the, the, the drive chip and putt, but
also, you know, he said, uh, there was another question about pairings and tee times and
everything. They bumped up the first tee time to 7 30 AM. There's what 90 something, 94, 96 players
in the field this year. Um year and you know, so there's
there's some concerns about just getting done in the proper amount of time as well. So yeah,
it's certainly top of mind and I think when when the chairman of Augusta Nationals, you know,
addressing it in his press conference and says, hey, this is an issue, then that should shut
everybody up that says, you know, like you guys are the only ones that bitch about this, that sort of thing. It's no, it's a, it's a very clear present issue for
golf.
To be clear, this is not new for Augusta in terms of penalizing
14 year olds. This week.
Well, they only penalize the 14 year olds that actually played
golf before now it's now it's, you know, possibly the kids that
don't really play golf.
We can get into that.
I'm all again, I'm all for the drive, ship and putt under the age of 11 or 12 or so.
There there's some TC takes that I'm just like, man, the rest of the world is just
you can never convince me the rest of the world is going to catch up with this.
And if I had to like bet money on do you think Augusta is going to have to take a stand on kids aim pointing in the drive.
Thanking sponsors.
I'd be like there's no way that's actually going to happen. That's a TC pit. And then
sometimes they just come true, man. It's crazy. Crazy to see. Yeah. Can I tell you guys I
was listening to the obviously under the weather this week, not doing great if you're just
joining the show. I was in like a five hour just medicated
sleep stupor the other day. Woke up, knew that you guys were doing the preview podcast so I turned
it on. First thing I heard was TC guest that Jack Nicholas was two groups ahead of Jordan
Spieth of the 2015 Masters. I was like, hey is that? And then and Solly even you were like kind
of straight-faced about it. I was like, wait, was that that can't be?
Listen, I got that one wrong. I gave Mr. Nicholas too much
credit. Just like Colin Moorakawa, who said he had no
idea who won the Masters in 1986.
We're focused on going forward, baby.
Kind of the opposite.
Not looking back. I thought that was that was good stuff. I'm
gonna be guessing Jack Nichols a lot going forward.
I thought that was that was good stuff. I'm gonna be guessing Jack Nichols a lot going forward
Barbara TC thinks I've waited
The 2015 is a matter of respect too much respect for him. I was like 76 years old I think Ridley also had a question I think from Sam Farmer who was asking just about the tension between tradition and
technology on kind of the content front
with regard to Augusta and just how to kind
of put forth a new modern spin and voice with Augusta while at the same time maintaining
tradition. I think they've done a brilliant job with that over the last few years. I will
say this is the first year that maybe I feel like they're flooding the zone a little bit
on that front. And I
like I think in the past, it's left me wanting more of you know, always leave me wanting
more and I feel like I can keep up with it and keep pace and everything. And they're
throwing so much stuff out on their Instagram that I like I cannot possibly keep pace and
I just it's not leaving me wanting more necessarily. I feel like they're getting a lot of bites
at the same Apple instead of just the
best bites. This is maybe, maybe a weird comp. Uh,
thinking about it in this way, it almost reminds me of the no cell phones thing.
And I remember like early, early,
when I first started going to the masters for the first time, I was like, all
right, the no cell phones thing is like, you know,
this seems pretty outdated and what year are they going to do away with this?
And this is not practical anymore
And now it's funny how much you hear
People just rave about it when they go to the Masters for the day and they're like, oh my god
It was so nice to not have their phones and basically like how right Augusta is on that front
I almost yeah, I'm almost shocked that they don't treat some of the content stuff the same way
You know where it's like rather than like just like flooding the zone
Like you said, why don't you just,
man, distill it down, keep them coming back, you know?
It's hard to keep up with, right?
I mean, it really is like, it used to be,
you know, you would take in everything they ever published
or, you know, it's just legitimately,
maybe just because I'm spending a fair amount of my time
out on the golf course without my cell phone
and not able to scroll and keep up with it all,
but it does seem like a lot. And it's just a unique tournament to cover
and to kind of come up with an angle on, because you're competing with, I mean, there's 700 people
in that media center that are writing stories and coming up with unique angles of coverage
can be really, really challenging. We've got a couple pieces of content that we want to shout
out in the back half. But yeah, like it's been, and like, it's not to say that they're, I mean, it's the best app in sports. They do an unbelievable, like
their, their original content this week and all the stuff they've put on instance has been awesome.
I just think like, you know, really talked a little bit about just kind of respect for the fans. And
I think some of that comes down to quantity as well. Like when you like, you know, I just feel
like I saw 20 things about the
Champions Dinner last night when I feel like in the past they've done like four or five
and they were just straight bangers.
And a lot of that, it's crazy to, I don't mean to belabor this point, but a lot of that
just leaves you wanting more, right? It's like, man, when you only have one picture,
you're just sitting there pouring over it all day and everyone's picking it apart. And
it's really fun. I think that's where some of the juice comes off.
We can pour over that here in a little bit here but um who put this in here about Zander's presser?
Who's excited about who was excited? Dude it was great. Did you guys listen to it? It was good. It
was very good. Yeah. I thought um he was just he was very he seems very relaxed and he just seems
like he's getting much more comfortable in his own skin Gripping the steering wheel a little a little less tight
And I just really enjoy hearing him talk golf and hearing him talk
Mental approach and you know what the last year has been like for him with you know
Going on the most torrid run of his career and also you know being out with injury and what it was like to you know
He was talking about being at home sitting on the couch like being a normal golf fan and just yelling at the TV about you know, being out with injury and what it was like to, you know, he was talking about being at home sitting on the couch, like being a normal golf fan and just yelling at the TV about, you know, God, you should know not to miss short right there. Everybody knows not to do that. And then also just like completely unplugging and missing tournaments. And so one of the things I really, really enjoyed, and, you know, flip side or however we want to say the shout out to the Masters for putting all these full press conferences Yeah up on their YouTube channel. It makes them this is like I think kind of the only way I really
prepare for the tournament now is just I'll sit Wednesday morning with a cup of coffee and just watch watch all these back-to-back but
Xander was talking about
You know, he had so many close calls and could never get it over the line and he was talking about how he had to find
that balance between
You know, basically I forget what he said.
He was talking about like holding onto the rope
and how the first couple times he was in contention,
the rope just slipped out of his hands
and everything happened so fast.
And before he knew it, it was gone.
And then to combat that,
he tried to slow everything way, way down.
And then like he was going so slow
that he was not in his own rhythm. And he finally eventually
had to realize like, you know, it's a middle ground between
those two, and I've need to find my own pace, what works for me.
And it's not the same as everyday rounds, but it's not
that different and yada, yada, yada. And it was just like, the
much better explanation that I'm giving of what it's like to,
you know, keep chipping away at the rock and trying to break through.
And it was just great.
It's, I guess the reason I bring all of it up is
I feel like we've spent time on this podcast
kind of shitting on Xander for like, hey man,
you wanna be paid like superstars,
you wanna be treated the way that Tom Brady's treated,
like you gotta give us a little bit more of what's going on. And I think he's absolutely been doing
that the last six months or so. And so I've just, I've really enjoyed listening to him.
Speaking of, of gripping the steering wheel a bit too tight, Colin Moore Cowell's press
conference or at least one of the answers, uh, uh, maybe left us feeling a little bit
differently and I'm not going to read the full transcription of he was asked a
question. There was someone in there that was asking a lot of
people the same question and it got a lot of hours. Yeah, I
think he was working on something. He got a lot of run
on live from of almost everybody's answer to this one,
but question along the lines of that, that maybe potentially
golfers are soft and that, you know, they don't respond to
criticism well or something like that. And Collins, I would call it tripling down,
not only he doubled down at the players
after skipping media at Bay Hill
and then kind of tripled down again of like,
doesn't regret anything that he said there or anything
and try to give some kind of explanation as to,
you can't always talk to me when I'm playing well
and it was just really circuitous and I don't
know what the overall takeaway of this other than I thought it
was one more opportunity for him to just be like, yeah, you
know, I probably should just should just answered some
questions and then this wouldn't have become a story. I regret
that I'll probably be you know, I was in heat up in the moment.
It's a learning moment for me and I'm I'm I'm likely won't do
that again because I understand the
situation a little bit differently now but continues to do this in a way that I just
think is a completely unnecessary battle for him to continue to fight and I've left more
and more confused by the strategy here.
Yeah, it's dripping with condescension and I don't like he's not being asked this over
and over and over again.
And it's not like the media has some massive agenda that like everybody's conspiring in there
prior to, you know, his, his presser that shit, my lawn guys are here.
Can barely hear you're fine. We can barely hear You're fine. I believe what TC was saying was, I don't know, where I was going to take it is, I'm
sure we shouted this out in the last couple of weeks.
Shane Ryan wrote a piece that I think summed up everything I've been feeling about this
whole conversation, which is you can't paint all the media with a broad brush just like
you can't paint all the players with a broad brush just like you can't paint all the players with a broad brush.
I listen to Colin's answer. I don't know. I don't even really have all that much to say about it other than kind of a cool man.
But the idea that like everybody should follow you around asking you questions about every, you know,
about every round you play is like, dog, I don't think that's really what you want either.
But if you do want that, like there's just a little bit of a fallacy going on there where it's like, you need to
develop a relationship with me, you need to be there every day. And it's like, dude, you
don't give time to anybody. Really, like, I shouldn't say that. That's, I'm sure, not
exactly true. But it's like, these guys are harder to get time with than ever. It's not
the 1970s, where players are going out to dinner with with writers and really developing like these deep meaningful relationships. It's pretty pardoned off in
like or quartered off into like, you can talk to him in scoring, you can talk to him occasionally
when they play well in the press center. And that's kind of it. You know, to be fair to
the media, it is pretty hard to develop those relationships. And I guess to be fair to Colin,
it's like, we probably don't need to be talking about this story every time he turns up.
Totally. It could be over.
I think that's yeah, like it should be over. And he's just done nothing but prolong it.
Right. And I think that's what that's what gets me is like, all right, the first opportunity
to ask about it was at the players and he gave a really shitty answer at the players.
And then cool, like now it's the Masters and that's kind of like everybody's State of the
Union speech for their game, you know, there.
And it's just like it was just such a nonsensical answer.
And then my biggest thing that I gleaned was that he's a top five player in the world.
He just kept doubling and tripling and quadrupling down on the fact that he's a top top five
player in the world, which shout out to Patrick Reed there. You want to talk about like getting the one
champions dinner photo and just like picking it apart. That's what happens every time you get one
of these quotes too is like man what I'm taking away from this is like you seem pretty chippy that
like people aren't giving you enough due like that's okay that's interesting that I want to talk about.
But like basically like all right you should talk to every top 10 player in the world after every single round of golf. It's like, no, man.
I think, yeah, Kev, the KBVR guy, I think he posted this on Twitter, but was talking to us too about
going out of his way to give a very generous summation of what he thinks that Colin was trying to say. It was truly
trying to see the other side of this to say, you know, week to week they need to do a better job
of establishing relationships and establishing trust so that when you do come up to somebody
after a round or after a heartbreak, they're more likely to address you and say something.
That's the most generous interpretation you could have of this of the story. But I,
I'm kind of, I just can't believe he doesn't want to just, just move past it and move on. Cause I'm somewhat ready to do that. But yeah.
And I think it says something too that like, you know, he was asked like whether other guys
have come up to him and asked for advice. Like, you know, some of the rookies or some of the,
you know, younger players have asked for advice on how to tackle Augustin. He's like, no, nobody,
nobody's asked me.
Cool.
That might be telling.
And he's playing great golf.
With a great record there too.
Yeah.
I think he's going to be in contention this week.
He's playing some of the best golf of anybody in the world.
I would put him like three on my big board to win this week.
Yeah.
And it's probably going to get brought up again.
That's because he just kind
of fuels the flame. But speaking of flame and speaking of fire, you already know Roeback has
our favorite polos, hoodies, shorts, pants, you name it. Best fit, best feel, simple as that. We
are in the heart of spring. They're dialing up some of their incredible polo designs. Let's find
some of the florals on their site. They are so good. I wore a little floral one on Sunday. I didn't think I
could pull it off. But Neil gave me a compliment, which actually
felt really good. If you're not a floral guy, the fairway fusion
polo is awesome. If you like your classics, they got some fun
striped combos as well. That's a little stripe one on from the
Azalea. Sharp solid. It's really, really nice. I like what
they did with the colors here. The Delta the Delta looper
shorts are back in stock for spring as well. Those are my
favorite shorts to wear on the golf course.
They work good as a casual short as well.
But yeah, they're the perfect spring golf pair shorts.
Load up on some Roeback now that it's spring.
Code NLU at roeback.com for a generous 20% off
your first order through the end of this week.
That's R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com 20% off Polo shorts
and more with code NLU.
A lot of subtle dogs at Augusta National.
Let me tell you that right now.
Lot of subtle dogs out there.
Anything, one of the things,
new things that's been introduced this year,
the driving range stats, the ball data,
the number of balls hit, all this stuff.
Anything you guys are gleaning from any of this data?
Bryson hit a lot of balls. So many balls. So many balls. I
think we got to start there. Probably because it 336 or
something like that. Which I think this speaks to the larger
range tracker idea. I have no idea if that's like normal
thing or context 100 more than he usually does or 100 less. I
don't know. Very, very cool. I think 22 year old DJ with nothing to do but
sit and watch this all day would have would have just gone nuts
on this and comparing ball speeds and exporting data and
doing all kinds of things. Right now I'm kind of like it was
kind of a quick little click through and Jordan speeds. Okay,
so 178. Interesting about the same as it always is. And then kind
of click away. But I think it is a are you searching for it? Are
you trying to like Max shot 29 on the front nine on Sunday and
he's out there banging a lot of balls and like, don't love
seeing that I didn't need to see that I thought we were kind of
be feeling ourselves a little bit more heading into the week
it is a you know, interesting, maybe it'd be interesting to
compare this to scores by the end of the week, in terms of like, all
right, yeah, maybe that guy was searching for something or I
forget who was bottom of the leaderboard of balls hit
something like Aaron rye. You know, does he does he got it? Is
he dialed? Or is it you know, is that a bad strategy? That's the
one thing I've gleaned from it. I can't pour over the yardage
data and get much out of it.
I would love to know like balls
Like how many balls did you hit during your practice session in?
Relation to how long your practice session was like your your all of that cuz that that for me like when I was growing up
I like to practice but but I probably practice too quick and without intentionality
And so that would I would learn a lot from the pros right, let's say you're out there for an hour.
How many balls are you hitting?
You know, cause I longer had some good, good quotes earlier
this week about going up and hitting too many balls here.
And like, yeah, you get here and it's this great range
and all that.
And he's like, I've had to learn how to like,
count myself down because I would just wear myself out
Sunday, Monday, you know, and Tuesday morning.
I'm, I'm, I'm frayed.
Well, there's, I mean, other than the par threes, you're not
hitting off flat lies out there. I mean, like all the shots are,
you know, there was a great, great video, the golf digested
chain, Ryan and Jamie Kennedy, documenting the new new
practice facility at Augusta. It's been there for several
years now, but just the details around it was awesome. I also
left it being like, you know, there's a simulation of the
first tee shot from there. In the back right corner is a
simulation of those 50 shot Oh, so sick. They're in the back
left corner. I also kind of looked at and I was kind of
like if I was one of the some of the pros, I'd be like, give me
some slope in the in the team area. Like I let me practice
ball below my feet ball above my feet. And I if I would, Gus, I
would not do that. Like that's one of the things that makes the golf course unique and sends guys out there to practice instead of, you know, on the
tee and requires the extra trips and the extra course knowledge of years and years and years of
how balls are going to react when that ball's above your feet and all that. But I don't think
there's a ton to glean from just banging balls on that beautiful. Maybe they just do that as a big
temptation of like, all right, guys, wear yourself out out here. This is
sex. But, but I don't know what you're going to really gain by
practicing a ton of ton of balls off flat lies. Because that's
not the name of the game on this golf course.
Well, one thing I was gonna say kind of came from that that
video, which was awesome. Was the other thing I think the
range trackers kind of cool for is just tracking shot shape.
Right? I don't it's it's very
hard sometimes to get a sense of, you know, who very reliably
plays a cut who very reliably plays a draw, you're kind of
just like, sort of need the commentators to fill in the
gaps for you from watching guys all day or whatever. But when
you can see someone's entire practice session, you can kind
of see like, Oh, that okay, that person mostly plays a fade or
whatever.
Is thatson still still
using the Hebrew hammers? I believe so. Like the bulging like because just with all this this
talk of the torpedo bats and moving the center of gravity around I mean Bryson
was kind of on the forefront of this stuff right? I mean he always is.
Producer in my ears tell me yes he is, he is still using the Hebrew Hammer clubs.
But just wanted to shout out, this was supposed to be later in the show.
But in that video that Golf Digest did about the practice facility,
there's tons of images in there of what the old range looked like back in the 60s.
The caddies out in the range shagging balls and like even up through the 70s, 80s and 90s,
like what that range, the old member,
what is now the members range,
the big massive 105 foot net they had at the back end of that
to stop balls from going out onto Washington Road.
Just a bunch of images of Augusta I'd never seen before.
And as I was discussing earlier about how hard it is
to find a unique angle, something to cover,
that video was one of the highlights of my week.
TZ's gonna have his lawn guy out there
on his chipping green later to do with that shaggy balls. That was one of the first things I
ever, I think the first year I went to Dugas was 96 or 97. And the I just remember walking out to
the range being like, this is it. Just looking at that big ass fence protecting Washington road
there and you know, tiger hitting balls over it. It's crazy
TC I'm gonna let you choose next route. We go here. We can do champions dinner
We can do notable pairings or we can get into some of our picks
We're guys were the beginning part ate up a lot of a lot of innings. Yeah, I mean
Quick what is the what do you think is the most golf balls you've ever hit in one day?
Like do you think you've ever even hit 300 golf balls in one day?
That's so many. How many how many is in like a large bucket range? Oh, yeah, I used to hit
Oh, I mean including like playing a 36 whole day because like growing up he used to play like
But even that is like your only holes and you're only hitting sessions and all that shots or whatever
I've probably hit less than 400 more than 300.
I don't think I ever ever hit that many balls to do that like
the week of the Masters is crazy.
Definitely day as a junior day we literally just play games
like literally how many can you hit like 80 balls onto the
closest green like how many balls can we can we make the
range pickers life miserable here which later would become my
job and I hated those kids that did all that but I doubt I've hit that many balls in a single
range session.
Sorry, continue.
I mean, I'm not sure Randy's had that many balls in his entire year.
Especially range balls.
I say we go champs dinner real quick.
Okay, no, no cat there.
I thought the photo was a little bit less interesting this year than it normally is.
Obviously, the big takeaway was Phil just absolutely looming over Scottie.
I mean, that was so like the shining Christmas party dinner.
The multiple, the reaction immediately when Phil was blowing up Twitter, you know, within the last
couple of months, like, I don't think Scottie wins before the Ryder Cup. I don't. And he just positioned himself right above Scottie for
the picture. And then like, oh, he's blowing up Freddie on Twitter about what a dick class,
low class move that was from Freddie. Sure enough, positioned himself right next to Freddie
in the photo as well. I refuse to believe any of that was a coincidence. But yeah, I thought,
you know, Ray Floyd is always looks like just a complete alpha he had the transitions lenses going on
out there on the porch and some of the stuff that they that they posted
Faldos head never ceases to amaze me how big his noggin is truly incredible any
other takeaways for you guys in the picture I don't think we have a big zoom
on it but DJ looks CGI in the background.
I don't know why.
A lot of these guys look in CGI.
Yeah, it's the photo looks very touched up.
Sergio looks like he's on his tiptoes.
If I'm being honest, that's a tough placement for him.
He shouldn't be a back row guy.
I feel like maybe Hideki needs to switch with him.
Can you guys without looking, could you name?
Mike, we're not getting a good placement either there?
Can you name every person in the photo? There's there's two that
are hard. I mean, almost every golf fan can get every one but
two but do you know the two that are the most difficult?
I feel like cootie and somebody else are the two that are tough,
right? It's it's Tommy Aaron who's sitting next to Gary
player there in the front row, the two that were the hardest
are as I think I had to do a little searching myself in that one but the rest of the names are
Zach Johnson's hair just continues to come back player of the century
back-to-back comeback player of the year like Steve Strickland
Trevor looks great deal with Monsanto TC all this stuff using the juice of that corn, put it in his hair. Scotty was catching some flack for running back the same
the same menu.
I'm a big black and red fish guy and, you know, a really good,
good rib eye.
Nothing wrong with that.
And I feel like this sums up.
Yeah, this this sums up Scotty right here is like, why am I going to?
I'm not adding any stress.
What am I gonna go out of my way to like go, you know,
bring in some sushi chef to impress everybody?
Like, no, man, like this is what I want.
I'm not gonna think about it again.
I think that's great.
I think it's a flex.
I think it's comfortable, but also elevated
in enough spots.
It's like, you dumb motherfuckers let me win again?
Yeah, we're gonna run the same menu back.
I'm gonna do the same thing next year too
when I go on to win this thing. Yeah. And it's you know, it's just called
it just calls the mind like it. I don't think enough people
give talk about it still and give enough hate to Bubba or his
menu. It was like it's a single worst menu. What was not even
like a close second. It was on it was like chicken breast, birthday party, Caesar salad, grilled chicken breast
and like basically confetti cake. That's it. That was it.
It's basically the the order off the menu in food form version
of him protesting the long drive at the PGA that one year just
like I'm not putting a dinner together.
But that's definitely not over thinking it.
I will say.
Are you guys gonna do some picks
and then we'll go through notable pairings?
Why don't you take us through our fan duel
official picks of the week here at TC.
Yeah, let's see.
Let's do first round leader.
Because I think they've got a nice kind of promo going with first round leader stuff and
I think the first round leader is really interesting this year. It's kind of the Charlie Hoffman team Rose Memorial play
But you know, it's it's kind of who's gonna come out digging. Dej you had Sergio Garcia. I did
Yeah, I don't I think Sergio is going to play well this week.
I don't think that seems to be a trending, pretty popular take.
But he's playing really good, third and fourth
in his last two events is obviously a tremendous record
here, like all of the past champions do.
But I don't know, man.
I think he's got a little piss and vinegar in him.
I think he's now's got a little uh, a little piss and vinegar in him I think you know, he's now an honorary texan like so many of the people in that, uh,
That past champions dinner, uh and cody shout out to cody and honorary texan as well
Uh, and I think he's gonna just he's gonna come out taking I don't know that he's gonna win
But a first round lead would not shock me. I love that. I love it. That's kind of how I feel about hovland
It's you know, yeah
Sergio's plus seven thousand so you can 70 to one there it. That's kind of how I feel about Hovland. It's, you know, yeah. Sergio's plus 7000. So you
can 70 to one there too, that's exactly strong. Hovland's plus
4000. For the same thing. I'm all fired up after the UFOs and
in all sorts of all sorts of stuff and eight mile in his
presser. So I'm on the Hovland bandwagon. So what do you got
going for this one?
I got Russell Henley for for no reason other than he heats up, he gets hot. I don't know if I can see
he's going all four rounds. He is always doing stuff. He's had a really great year, really good
iron player and I got he's plus 5,500. That was just someone that I think could have a be a first
round leader. Probably not going to win but a good first round leader pick. Neil's got more kawa plus 2500 and KVV in a sign of things to come has his Keegan
plus 7500. He's committed to this. It's kind of like me with the Tom Kim thing like man I
don't know why I keep doubling down on this thing but I'm kind of committed at this point.
Keegan was playing well in the par three contest right? Well he made an ace. That was the big deal.
You know what I was watching live from today. Did you guys hear notice
say that he would always intentionally hit at least one
ball in the water to make sure that he never won the part three
contest? Love love that. I love stuff like that. Did he have
did he really have to worry about that? Maybe he was
playing well. I think going on. Yeah, I don't think it's over
yet. Next up, we've got our our kind of group parlay. This is this is, you know, us all going down the assembly line.
You know, who knows where we're sourcing these components from this week and what the tariff percentages on are on these but we've got a parlay across, you know, four of us here. So I've got
burger for a top 20 in here. Plus 210. Sali, you've got you've
got Fleetwood.
We got Tommy lad plus 120 in there. Throw that in there. I
think that's I think he's gonna absolutely top 20 this week.
Neal's got how do you finish up?
We've already discussed that. We've addressed that deeds. It's
hard. That's so low class of you. All right.
No, no, no.
You guys must have talked about it.
Much like Noda hitting it in the water on purpose, Tommy shot 81 on purpose.
There you go.
Valera, right?
In the wind, didn't want to grind.
I'm all for it.
Neil picked Ryder Cup lock, Sepp Straka, top 20.
And then Randy P.
P.
Atrick Reid's kind of, he's having a moment this week, guys.
He's kind of getting the hang of it. Straka top 20 and and then D or then Randy
P
Attrick reads kind of he's having a moment this he's kind of getting some burn right now
I know if we're shouting stuff out he was weird, you know
Yeah, he had the he had the bedazzled dog tag on down at the Cody's that stolen Valor
Are we okay with the jewel dog tags? No, he's safe.
But there is something in the water of Doral.
I think there could be a lot of things in the water of Doral that like gets P Reed going.
And that's where he's at right now.
I love it.
No fluoride in the water at Doral though.
Definitely.
All right.
But no, P, I mean, P had a great Q&A session with Joseph Lemania that I mean, I don't know,
I thought that was awesome.ania that I mean, I thought
that was awesome. Like that was the most I've learned about
Patrick Reed and his entire career was in that and I thought
he had a great rollback take and like, hey, like if you know, if
you want to see us do amazing shit, like let us do it and
bring the equipment back to that point. So it'd be great.
And it would be such a real golfer. Yeah, absolutely golf
player. You know, he's he was a good driver, his whole career would look so different.
He's just never been a good driver.
Plus he was playing those drivers for a while.
Yeah, it didn't help.
It's kind of like Bubba playing the Volvic for a while.
He didn't have to be this bad, man.
So that's our NOE parlay.
And again, the no sweat bet.
Everybody can kind of get a little bit of a free roll.
Click on that with the FanDuel stuff there at the top.
And then all of our specials are listed here as well.
So get on their site.
We've got a lot of other plays.
Fun parlay.
Deej, what'd you cook up for this one?
Yeah, this was in, again, kind of one of my medicated stupors.
I thought I'd take a page out of a tea slated book.
This is a made cut parlay.
I always love the made cuts.
It makes Fridays so fun.
It's kind of an easy cut to make too, right?
Exactly.
Seven people, these guys should all make the cut.
Scotty, cash it.
Corey Connors, I'm told great record,
I'm told future Masters champion.
Sergio, you've already heard me talk about Sergio.
Team Rose, you know, maybe nobody with a better record
over the last 15 years than him.
Brian Harmon, always doing stuff, clearly in good form.
Max Homa, Solly, I'm hearing he shot 29 on the front
the other day from my sources. And Future Ryder
Cup stars seps troca. I got all seven of those guys to make the
cut plus 1186.
Throwing Max in is such a such a such a such a
it's debating move. I love it. Yeah.
Sally, what do you got?
Mine's a little more simple than that. But again, just some guys that I
want to have some kind of some kind of action on in some way
that I think you're gonna have good weeks more cow a top five
Fleetwood top 10 Sergio top 20 is plus 2728 when I when I
entered this in odds of course subject to change but I we had
a gosh we were close on the at the players on a mega parlay that was around this price
So that's my that's my that's my fun play. I can root for all three of those things
Okay, I've got an eight way top 40
If you will I got burger. I'm bullish on burger. I don't think he's gonna win
But I think burger burgers gonna show up. I got a G as always, you know a lot of history here
He's he's a Georgia Bulldog
They have a record here cuz it
Yeah, right and he's really good long iron players like you should have just one one of these like 90s
Yeah, maybe he did. Maybe they're a different suit in him. I got Billy ho
Hoagie I think hoag, I think similar to Henley.
Sally Hoagie's just, he's playing good golf and he's a grinder.
Might be a little windy out there.
I got Joe Highsmith.
I think Highsmith's playing.
He's got Joe the Show 4.0 in the bag for him.
Matt McNeely, who I think I'm buying up all the Matt McNeely stock this week.
I know he's a rookie here, but it's, you know, he's,
ball speed is up. He's a really, really specific, you know, kind of calculating player. And then
I've got Austin Eckroat, who barely missed the cut last year. I think he's going to clean some stuff
up. And then I've got Max and mine as well for top 40. So. HE record not great here in 18 rounds just plus 0.63
strokes gained per round. That'll get you top 40 though right? Made the he's made
the cut though four out of five years. Yeah he has made he finished out of the
top 40 in 20. A lot of 43, T43, T42 you can be sweating this one. I'll tell you you know
what I'll tell you what the most important ability though is on these on
these top 40 make up our lives
Availability, it's just give me a chance back nine on Friday man. Just give me a chance
Yeah, Neal's got struck a home up burger Mickelson to make the cut at plus 646
KV's got Zach Johnson cam young and Phil to miss the cut Wow plus 622
Randy's got I don't think we can parlay these
On the Phil stuff real quick because you guys were I was listening to the show on on Monday, which was delightful
You guys kept sprinkling out these like I think Phil could win and it was totally unchecked
Everybody just like yeah. Yeah you yep you you're good with that too. Yep. Cool. No rationale from anybody
What the fuck are you playing well and
he always plays well at Augusta. He's playing fine. All you need
is playing that Phil is playing okay. And he should be mentioned
leading into Augusta like that I was completely sold two years
ago. That was one of the most ridiculous performances I've
ever seen. And I think he's up for it. I think he would greatly
enjoy trolling everyone. I believe that he can I think he's up for it. I think he would greatly enjoy trolling everyone. I believe that he can, I think he can top five.
I really do.
I could not agree more.
He's got that crazy ass look in his eye.
He always does.
He slayed his ass off in Hong Kong last month on a course
that didn't fit him at all.
He played well down at the Dural.
He was glowing when I saw him the other night.
It was, he's just, you know, I'm not sure if he was glowing because he had too
much coffee for wellness or, or, you know, something else, but, um, but no,
I'm, I'm all in on Phil.
I think Phil Phil could legitimately, I think he might win this week.
So Randy's got him as his top senior, minus 175.
Randy's also got Highsmith as his top debutante and Ballester as his top amateur, which I
was told we cannot, I don't think we can parlay these because I was trying to parlay Mad McNeely
for top debutante, Nicholson at top senior and Ballester at top amateur as well. So tap in plays Dej. You've got a good Dej has a good one more a calla winner without Scotty and Rory.
Sorry, I mean Ludwig's not I don't know, man.
I guess he's wildly under the radar this week, but maybe kind of seems like for for good
reason.
I feel like we're in kind of a little bit of a mess.
I mean, I think it's a little bit of a mess.
I think it's a under the radar this week
but maybe kind of seems like for good reason.
I feel like we're in kind of a little bit
of a prove it moment here for Ludwig.
But I don't know, everything I said about Morkawa,
I could say the same thing about Zander too.
And that like, that's what that press conference reminded me
of is like, God, we're being very quiet
about the guy who's won two of the last three majors here.
But I think that, I still think it's a two horse race
above all that.
And like you said earlier, I think third on my big board
is Laura Kala.
We're getting moved along here by producer Cody here
that all these are gonna be available
in the Fandil Sportsbook app.
And we should get to our one and done's.
Our season long one and done's for our happy hour here. But DJ, what wish to get to our one and done's we are season long one and done's for our for our happy
hour here. But DJ, what do you have for for your one and done?
My one and done strategy was sketched out months ago. I've
been crunching all the numbers I've been I've been looking at
all the data. All the algos are working together harmoniously to
spit out my one and done schedule. And not surprisingly,
this is the week to use Scotty Schapler. He will be my one and done schedule. And not surprisingly, this is the week to use Scottie Schapler.
He will be my one and done pick.
That's it.
I'm excited to see how all these picks compare
to our who is actually going to win, right?
Because this is a different question than who's going to win,
which we will pin down as well.
But I can just go ahead and say my one and done.
I mean, how are you not picking Rory at Quill Hollow
as a one and done pick? I already burned Rory
That was actually
TC what's your one and done? I've got Ludwig. It's my one and done plus
1800 I'm saving Tommy for Port Rush and I'm saving Rory for
For Quail Hollow. I already burned Zala Torres at Genesis. I've already burned Colin at players.
So and Scotty, I don't know what I'm saving him for.
Maybe Oakmont.
Yeah, I've got Scotty in here because I made this decision a long time ago.
I kind of wish I had burned Zala Taurus here because I do love him at plus 5,500.
And that's kind of that's the that's the best odds I'm seeing jumping
off the data would tell me that my heart is gonna make a different play here
shortly but I got Scotty is my one and done pick for for our season long race
but I go to Neil Neil's taking Rory he is going plus going with the plus 650
play for Rory in this one KVV, again, very committed to the bit.
He's sticking the neck out like the giraffe that he is.
He is plus 11,000 going for Keegan Bradley.
And-
Which is down from plus-
He actually got it at plus 25,000, I think,
or plus-
KPV moved that line single-handedly.
Yeah.
The offensive lineman. and then Randy is going
one and done on Scotty Scotty Scheffler as well as well at plus 400 in our
year-long draft I've got Scotty I took Scotty this was you know one of my first
picks here I'd also like to just call out that that KVV has Keegan to make the cut at minus 260 and Keegan
top American at plus 6,000 as well.
Those odds should be bigger.
Yeah.
So I got two plays that I would also like to share because I tease these as well.
The first is my Scandinavian supernova.
This is Ludwig and Victor, top five in ties.
Parlay.
Just Scandinavian sweepstakes.
Yeah.
And then I tried to put together a 14-way made cut parlay, but I think they limited
me at like eight or nine.
So I just like to, I had Grazerman, Hoagie, Mickelson, Eckrode, Horschel, English, Poston,
Berger, Hovland, Sepp, Keegan, Zalatoros, Reed, and Sergio.
Write those down at home.
You should stick with the odds
where if you try to predict the entire made cut.
All top 50 in ties.
Let's come off the backs of this.
Let's ignore the odds.
Let's get to, I would consider this
to be the most important part of the show.
Most important part of any major.
Who will not win?
We'll get to who won't win first.
Okay, then you go first, and DJ,
who will not win the Masters.
If you're unfamiliar with this part of the game,
the goal is to pick someone who is,
and it will be audited by the rest of the group here,
as if it's a big enough name to mention.
But you gotta put your name on it it to say this person that everybody's talking
about is going to win.
This person's actually not going to win.
I'm calling here right now.
The definition but letter of law what you just said there I would say Phil Mickelson
as all anybody's fucking talking about.
I will say what's solid what's the Mendoza line this year that? Because it's I'm pulling up the odd sheet right now.
Like is JT that kind of plus 2200?
So if you get into that totally in the arena.
Yeah, that that to me if you go JT if I was picking JT, I would
also add someone else in for good measure because I would
take two players in here because that feels safe.
I'll say John Rommel not with the Masters. That is that clears that
absolutely clears that plus 1400 is the third biggest and
famously, we should say this game was invented the year that
Pat I picked Patrick Reed to not win and he did win. So that's
why this game is stuck stuck around.
Like the goal is if your guy finishes second or third,
totally fine. That's the dream. That's totally fine trying to
get to you're trying to get to.
You're trying to middle this.
I think Andy's gotten tripped up by this one.
I think TC, Neil and I are still alive.
If this was a survivor pool, we would still be alive
and having not getting tripped up by this.
So who are you going with?
I'm also gonna take Ram.
That was my play before DJ came in.
It's not that I don't think he can play well. I just would I'd be surprised if he won this week.
That was the name that's jumping off on there.
Lovely would be my second guess if I had to take another one, but I'm not.
I'm gonna go with Rory.
That's just me.
That's all right. Just remember that he said that when he's trying to inch his way into the back door
of the block party.
What the fuck, man?
Yeah.
Why would you do this?
It's not personal.
I just, I don't know.
I like for her.
I just, you know, we just, we just got to remember that he said this Friday, Saturday.
That's the reason why we had the 14 person parlay is to distract that he said this.
And I tried to super you know,
vision fund is hot right now. Put a put a play in the other
day for Sunday morning for leash to win 12 to one. Live Miami
warning of huge and he got it done. We're back. We're so back
baby.
Did you get who won't win picks? You didn't get those from
anybody else. Cody by chance did you know but alright, let's get
to the fun part.
I would assume that Randy is is on Rory with me. He probably
sure.
Being a stake to that. Yeah.
Somebody else would have wanted to do Tommy. Even though Tommy's
outside. He's probably wouldn't even count. Yeah, that one
doesn't count. That one's not even sporting. Second one for
that one.
Lead us off here. I think these guys sound good. Looked up.
Okay. I will lead us off and I want to lead us off by saying that something happens at the Masters
every 10 years we get a story. Something happens. Let me go back to 1965.
Oh my gosh. Jack, 25 years old, wins wins by nine historic Masters performance over Arnold Palmer
and Gary Player. 10 years later 1975. Jack wins again keeps Johnny Miller from winning a green
jacket. Unbelievable year. 1985 who wins? Jack is that's Bernhardt longer playing in his final masters this year. What has you guys know?
1995 Ben Crenshaw the most emotional story in the field wins just days after his mentor Harvey Pienaar dies
2005 of course we get the tiger chip the playoff over Chris DiMarco
2015 Jordan Spieth wins at the age of 21 2025 my guy your guy
Rory McIlroy wins the Masters let's fucking go guys.
Are you gonna fire up the grill?
Are you the grill master?
We're firing up the grill we're unseasoning the burgers and we're doing it man.
This is...
You're unseasoning them?
Yeah we're picking picking on seasoning off. And I don't know, man, I think it's
very easy to say the places in his head, it's not going to
happen. And listen, we'll have that conversation on Sunday, if
we get to it. But he has everything he's done,
realistically is about what you can ask for a guy in his position, man.
He keeps showing up every one of these majors.
He's the only guy that keeps giving himself a chance to win.
It's a numbers game TC.
You said it earlier.
It's going to break through eventually.
And I would rather, I'd rather be on the wall and have a chance.
Then to just say, no, it's not going to happen.
Guy fucking stinks.
That's that's I can't do that.
Can't I gotta be there Cody
Who's next Cody come on Sully amazing all right on I
I have I've been all over the map with this guy in recent major years
I've once declared if you know when he wins his next major. I'm gonna miss it. I'm done predicting it
I just I've gotten my heart broken too many times
I've had that same feeling Thursday Friday of of like, why the fuck would I ever
pick this guy? Why would I invest? He's shown me something
different in majors to the point where, like, I do think this
place is in his head. I do. I absolutely do. I'm committed to
that. I am of the belief that, again, what we saw at LACC, what
we saw at Pinehurst, what we've seen in other major
championships in the last several years has been a
different guy. And the player we've seen so far to this point, it seems like the
most complete player that we've ever seen him be. It's not the hottest I've ever seen
him be. He has come into Augusta hotter. He has had bigger hype trains than this one.
But it feels like if coming off the backs of the heartbreak of last year and considering
how well he played in so many of those moments, If he's going to clear the hurdle, it's
this year. That's why I'm committing this to being my one and done for Rory again. I will do a recording on Sunday night. I
will look into the camera, similar to 2023 Ryder Cup at Rome, where I talked to myself in four years and said, for the
future me, you are not allowed to pick the United States in Europe ever again, until they win one.
I will do that on Sunday night and say, and we can play it back next year when I try to talk myself into him. I
honestly and truly think he's going to break it this year. And I'm here for the emotional ride. I
you guys are signing yourself up for
that's fine. I'd rather feel something. I really would. It was very easy to call Scotty last year. Honestly, he was playing some incredible golf and I think it's just it's way more open this year
I really do. I'm not totally convinced that it's like
You know if Rory doesn't win it's Scotty
Like I think it's I just feel like it's open and I feel like this is a good window for him to run past some guys
That are a little behind
the performance. Other than Maura Cowell, almost everyone's coming in with some kind
of dip in some way. Rory is not. He's either totally psyched out and jinxed for this place
forever or he's going to do one. I think it's time for... I'm going to ride this one.
I don't care what happens. I won't regret taking him. I won't. I'm going to ride this one. I don't care what happens. I, and I won't regret taking him.
I won't.
I I'm, I'm committed with all the information available.
Even with the data that's telling me I shouldn't,
I just think that we're
that's a nice.
Oh, yeah.
This is great.
This is what we've been missing the last couple of years.
We haven't been a strong United front because you know,
it's all you weren't willing to, you know,
he said it in the presser, you know, you got to put yourself out there even though you might get your
heart broken it's great.
What's on zoom pass it was it was the right place to be the last several years of like
that's right yes it's just you know you can't you can't ride that out forever so
I don't know man it I was kind of committed to this after the players
after seeing that and I kind of I thought it would be I don't know why I thought it would be less noisy for him going up into it and kind of committed to this after the players, after seeing that and I kind of, I thought it would be,
I don't know why I thought it would be less noisy
for him going up into it and kind of sneaking up.
It's not sneaking up.
I don't know if it ever will,
but it just feels different, man.
And I'm ready to do it.
So if y'all will welcome me back to the block party,
I will be there.
Thank you, Cody.
I'm glad Neil's not here
because he has been gatekeeping this thing
for way too long.
Of course, you mentioned our fearless leader,
little baby Schuster. There he is right there coming in with Rory. TC, who do you got? Yeah, uh, Cody,
I forget who I sent to you as my pick to win. Let me speak from your heart. I think I sent
you Ludwig and that's not my pick to win. A lot of different directions we could go here.
I think Victor, I like Victor a lot. I just, there's something there, man. There's something
he's ascending. I picked him for a reason in our next decade of golf kind of, you know,
draft. And I still believe in that. He won the Valspar,
which in my opinion is a certified BDE. And I don't begrudge you guys at all. I respect
you guys for taking Rory. You know, I love it. I think they're, you know, I would love
to see it, right? I'm rooting for it as well well. I think Hovland, I like the Scandinavians
this week for some reason.
Just not Ludwig. What's the matter with your guy?
I've already got Ludwig at plus 1800 in the one and done, but there's something going
on with Hovland, man. There's something magical going on. He's talking about UFOs and he doesn't
really have to chip all that much around this place. I think Ho's a great player. I mean, I think he's a great player. I mean, I think he's a great player. I mean, I think he's a great player. I mean, I think he's a great player.
I mean, I think he's a great player.
I mean, I think he's a great player.
I mean, I think he's a great player.
I mean, I think he's a great player.
I mean, I think he's a great player. I mean, I think he's a great player. I mean, I think, but I hear you. I mean I mentioned Tommy earlier port
You know port rush all that I think Tommy Tommy's a block for a top 10 here
And you know, I'm I've already signed up to get my heart broken either way
I've reason to dump on me even if he doesn't win there
So listen if Tommy if Tommy's in the hunt on Sunday, like I'll probably fly up
Like you can't claim it though. You can't claim it
You can you cannot claim and I told you so. If you're not going to pick them to win.
I thought you were talking about, you know, I mean, I think I've got and then like, you know, I think Cam Smith's got a good look at this thing.
Here we go. You know, that was a little bit of a reach on the 1985 saying that like that was some magical year.
It wasn't a magical year. I'm just saying it was his last Masters. It was going every 10 years. Leave us alone. Come on. Also low key
every year. The Masters is now you're trying to scramble it up so people don't remember this.
Guys, I think the shock of the century when I sent the question out, Randy did come back to me and
said, Hey man, who's your pick to win? He went with none other Mr Lucas Glover. He had a dream. I was talking to him about this earlier.
He had a dream that I had a dream as well that Lucas Glover won the Masters last night.
And Randy said he had the same dream. Crazy.
Wild. He won.
He wants to win the Masters. Never won it before.
We both independently had dreams about Lucas Clever winning the Masters.
It's crazy.
God, can you imagine if he won?
Crazy.
Now granted, I don't know if I believe in my dreams, but
Whoa.
I'm having them.
But I want to.
What else?
Well, any other picks?
Well, Andy's put his dreams where his mouth is.
So much.
No more picks.
That's it.
That's where we're stopping right there.
I believe KBV has hit the chat
with his official pick is Scottie Shufflett.
So that is...
Okay, not Keegish.
Cody, who you got?
I mean, it's Ferrari, come on, man.
Okay, I'm here, ride or die.
All right, we had some questionable clothing. There's a lot of scripting going on TC, but
there your guy cam you mentioned him earlier. What's up with the dinner?
I don't know. It looked like some sort of activation. I'm not even I don't even want
to discuss this. It's not it's a he's got a rippers and blazend blazer there. I'm not
down with it. It's, it's some
sort of thirst bucket play.
Taking advice from Phil, honestly, of like, yeah, you
got to do it like this. Masters is a place to do this. For sure.
Kind of looks like one of those novelty wedding photos, you
know, or it's like, hey, before we go into the reception, why
don't we go take it? You know, he's a golfer, right?
I just love that he had the sponsors.ched into that one too. It all black.
Yeah, just kind of a no thanks.
TC sent me over a Boog's Instagram post.
Oh, TC and I were celebrating this earlier.
I kind of have started in my notes before I got sick, like a maybe nothing nothing maybe something kind of segment and maybe nothing
maybe something uh db wishing himself a happy birthday on his own instagram I thought was pretty
pretty interesting stuff and that's kind of the energy that I'm looking for uh out of him this
week so happy birthday agree tcs was tcs was yesterday so So happy birthday. Thank you. Happy skins day to Sally. Even though you rocked yesterday didn't go
rocks.
You guys are
runs in an inning.
I think DB is a national treasure. And we need to we
need to protect him at all costs.
Who we who we gonna regret not having talked about come come
Friday afternoon. Who's who's gotten low not enough billing
here because I haven't
I don't think we ever I mean mean, Brooks, like we never know what
to do with Brooks and Hideki. That's just kind of a normal
thing. Joaquin seems really inflated on the odds. He's a
plus 3000. I think he should be a little bit farther down the
board.
That's probably Phil, you know, moving them that market, though.
We haven't mentioned the cat the pat in
the hat yet but I don't think speed is barely garnered dimension I just want to
I want to put that out there I think that's healthy for all the people who
say we can't we can't kick the Rory thing like look at the speed thing
solid predicted he was gonna win eight of these things you know it's halfway
there that's true but it's like
He's definitely on my list. I mean they paired him up with
Tom Kim and Tyrell Hatton. That's baby sitting out there saying
You know, he gets out of the gets out of the house with his what does he have three kids now?
He gets out of the house there and three on the way. Yeah, go babysit Tom Kim and Tyrell Hatton all day
Probably was looking for a little break out there.
He's actually moved from plus 3300 to plus 3500 this week.
So, um, you know, not, not a lot.
So actually there's some solid.
That's probably more of a commentary just on, uh, our friends at FanDuel sent over some,
some statistics, uh, outright winner Bryson.
Wait, honestly, we haven't really talked about Bryson.
True. He's got 9% of the bets, 13% of the handle. Outright winner Bryson. Honestly, we haven't really talked about Bryson.
He's got 9% of the bets, 13% of the handle right now.
Rory is second with 8% of the bets, and he's first with 15% of the handle.
Colin, 7%. Ludwig, 5%. Scotty, 5%.
That's probably just a matter of him being what 4 to 1 or thereabouts. Xander, Brooks,
Sep, JT and Lowry. Sep top 10. 3% of the bet there. So first round leader, Colin has 15% of the bet,
16% of the handle. Scotty, Bryson, Rory Ludwigwig Tommy's getting 1% of the
outright winner bets which I stand with those.
No, you are the one.
You don't stand with them.
I can put in more than one guy.
I like I'm not just you know, that's not the only bet that
I'm making guys.
I'm I'm all over it.
I bet on all 90 guys like I'm good at some of the most popular prop bets hole in one on the 16th plus 105
player to shoot a tournament record
By the way plus 105 for a
Like meaning that pin placements a disgrace now you can have a whole new one all the way down that plus 105 is a smaller
Ridge this year. I've heard
Player to shoot a tournament record 62 or better plus 1700
Hole-in-one round one plus 950 and playoff to decide the winner randy always loves the playoff bets plus 350
I've had a playoff in a while Tc, how's the weather looking like this week?
weather looks great with the exception of
Thursday night, Thursday night overnight into Friday morning. Looks like some some passing showers and I don't
think crazy storms, but just just some passing showers and
such. That's the European model for Thursday that we're
flashing up on the screen right now we've got a wind out of the
south. Maybe a little gusty,
getting up towards 18, 20 miles an hour,
but sunny all day, high of 73 degrees there on Thursday.
And then you can see there,
got some weather moving in overnight,
should clear out by mid morning or so,
and got a wind coming out of the west.
They're really kind of kicking up around 10 10am to get some 25 minute hour gusts
that afternoon too. So and then I think by all accounts, European model doesn't go out that far. But by all accounts, the weekend looks awesome. Saturday,
Sunday.
So sorry, does that jive with what you're you're hearing there on site?
I believe so. Yes, I would I would never ask
anybody else but you on a weather prediction. So we're
loop. Yeah, of course. Any other? What's most notable in
the pairing front TC? I know this is one of your favorite
pre pre masters traditions. Yeah. Um, gosh, we've got so we
got Davis Riley and Patton Kizire going out first.
Did not ask for every overview of every pair. I know, I know.
I thought this was interesting because Patton's not exactly
let me change the question. You're going to get five
pairings that you get to mention as being noteworthy or most
interesting to you. Yeah, first up. Let's see. First up, we've got how far down do we want to go here? We'll go.
You know, I thought Davis Riley and Pat Kozak. Colin, Joaquin and Minwu Lee. That's a that's an exciting pairing. I would watch that. Right. That's that's group 12 9 47 a.m. On Thursday morning. Are you guys taking in a heads up there?
Joaquin or Minn-Woo Lee?
Joaquin. I gotta take keen.
Yeah, there was we got a question.
He's gotta he's gotta come through.
Where's yours?
It's my guy. Proper player.
Why can't I see where where this somebody sent with the
volatile substances? Well, it was T sizzle three, will the volatile substance make the cut andwoo's antics, you know, in and
around the Houston Open. So just wanted to not cool with that. I think the next pairing
winner could come out of this pairing 958 group 13. Nicholson, Day, and Keegan. Day,
who knows what he's gonna wear? I know, you know, I know they've they've asked him to
tone down his scripting a little bit.
Uh, you know, Keegan playing his way towards, towards Ryder Cup glory.
Who knows?
Maybe Phil's playing his way towards Ryder.
Could you imagine that if Phil wins the masters, he can be on the Ryder Cup team.
He won.
He can makes a team.
Phil becomes like a playing captain.
I think that that might be the story.
Incredible.
You're not going to get me on this one cuz Phil literally won a major in 2021 and did not make the 2021 Ryder Cup team
I think he could win the Masters and still not be on the Ryder Cup team. I think the best results do not dictate future returns
We already mentioned this one so I'm not gonna this doesn't count against my five is the spieth Kim Hatton when that's fair
I'll allow that is crazy
Big tone could be as weak got an extra 10 in the bag. We've got uh
We're gonna keep we're just gonna keep going Sergio
DB straight by five in I'm straight a fascinating to see what on hell Cabrera does
True after spending two years in the cooler and then coming out and winning on the champions tour is wild
Yeah, I think group story group 26 is pretty interesting Fitzpatrick notably fast player
Can't lay and Hoygard can't lay. I do you know hats off the pat
He has improved his his pace demonstrably here of late.
So we'll see what happens there.
Adam Scott, Xander, and Hovland, that's a great pairing.
It's just bonafide stud.
Is the 112, Solly, group 29, Akshay, Ludwig, Rory.
Is that a little bit of,
it's a little bit outside of Akshay's station there?
So, so Augusta does not do like the big mega feature group like they they mix stuff up,
like they mix up nationalities.
That's a big thing for them of, you know, kind of, you know, very, it's rare to see
like three Americans all in the same pairing and they usually will give someone that is
on the younger end or kind of earlier on in their career, a decent a decent
group. It's not like they just it's not like they do on the PGA tour where you
got a group within the same categories and you're trying to maximize feature
group coverage and all that stuff. Like it is like in theory, but like that's
just how Augusta has always done it is that they're not shy about giving
somebody a boost and letting them play with somebody that's kind of outside their, um, their, their current status.
Uh, as, as, uh, Patrick Livingston here in the comments points out Brooks is teeing off
immediately after the pat in the hat, the tool man as well.
So we'll, we'll keep an eye on that.
Last one.
Let's see here.
Well, last one I would say, Rom, Blow Pig and Tommy.
And I would pose this to you guys.
Would you be more surprised if Tommy wins or the Blow Pig?
The Blow Pig.
Yeah, I agree.
Like I know the answer to this for you. TC someone have to do
it. But like DJ, do you think Tommy wins a major? I do. I do
too. Cody's running as well. Yeah, it's just funny. Give you
shit. I've always said no. Well, he hasn't. It's fun. Yeah. He
hasn't even won a PJ tour event. But I think he'll I think he'll
win a win an open right? I mean just they're pretty open yeah I just don't think that like Tommy gets so much
flack and I don't think that why is that when you think that is enough flack for
he is not finished when you want a u.s. already been in a major he won outside
of outside of LACC as his only top 30 finish in a major okay that's that's
that's crazy and what happened in his top there his only top 30 finish in a major. Okay. That's that's that's crazy. And what happened in his
top? There's one top 30. He got to take it off the planet and
shouldn't have won. But he did. People forget that. I think
Tommy's gonna win a port rush. Might win an Oakmont too. Might
win this week. So, let's see. Anyways. Stay tuned. That's all
I got, guys. Alright. Happy hour went a little long, but we are very, very excited for for measures week.
Of course, you know, we'll be live
after every single round of play Thursday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday.
And this is of course, Cody cooked this up.
The block party is going to be hot starting.
What time's the first,
what time does he go off tomorrow?
Exactly.
Sometime in the afternoon.
We got to wait a long time in the afternoon.
One twelve.
One twelve he is off.
I will, I plan to be there for that.
Can't pregame too hard.
That's been a problem in years past.
Soly, what's the deal?
Is it just trying to break 70 in the first round?
Is it just trying to break 75 in the first round?
Shoot 70.
Anything lower than 70 changes the expectations.
Shoot 70, then shoot 67 and we're on the path to winning
That's the path
If you shoot 67 tomorrow, I don't feel good about things. We need a
70 I think to hit that hit the gas man 70 exactly shoot 62
Tell me what's alright. So what would be like if he shoots this you're worried. Shoot 73, 74 like how far like over par?
Over par on work.
Over par on work.
So I think scores should be pretty good tomorrow.
I mean, it's not, wind's not gonna be up too much
and there's not been enough wind the last couple of days
to really dry out these greens and make it play.
I mean, the fairways are soft,
like it should play, that should play into his hands.
I know I've been talking a lot about this week
about how Augusta emphasizes shots from 150 to 200
more than other courses.
Got a lot of questions of like,
well doesn't Rory hit it past that anyway?
So he'll be hitting it from inside 150.
That's not what like data golf would project necessarily.
Like yeah, he'll be on the front end of that 150 to 200.
But you no longer believe in data golf.
I've sworn off the data on this one. I get in
theory like, yeah, he's going to be closer. So he won't be losing
as much in that time. But like, the way the par threes are set
up as well. I mean, there's, you know, 16 is obviously going to
be in that in that, that range all three days, all four days,
if you will. 12 is obviously in that range.
When it has that front pin, it kind of gets under 150,
where he is kind of, he checks out more
from a data perspective.
But four plays long, the over 200 yards,
he is, that is a strength of his,
but they move the tee up usually on that once.
It's in that 180 range.
So that's again, where he's kind of lost this thing
has been with his approach play.
And what makes Augusta different
Than a lot of PGA Tour golf courses is like the marginal shot at Augusta again off an uneven lie
At a different elevation change the marginal shot does almost never ends up on the same
Tier as the hole and that is where he has tended to lose a lot of shots even with really good driving if you are
Not precise with your iron play and you're not missing it in the right spots, it is really, really, really hard to score. That was the biggest takeaway I had from watching him versus Scotty last year, was that Scotty was leaving the ball in the right spots, getting to tiers, getting to spots in really windy situations that Rory was not getting to. So like, it's going to take a leap in this range. He's going to have to have a bit of an out-of-body week, considering his course history here, which is honestly not great, especially on the approach play. He's going to have to have a bit of an out of body week considering his course history here, which is honestly not great, especially on the approach play.
He's going to have to do that really well. He's going to drive it well. He pretty much
always does. And these fairways are wide enough that that's not the question. It's can he
gain shots on the field from that range and play really well from above 200, which is
a great strength of his with there's a lot of
shots like that on this golf course. So hell yeah Sully that fires me up brother nothing nothing
I mean we got that here. I want to say a quick shout out to of course our friends at FanDuel
thank you to Robak we're here all week come as soon as coverage concludes you'll find live from
the Kill House proudly presented by High Noon.
Come through, come join us.
The Black Party is going to be popping off all weekend long.
And yeah, I'm pumped.
It's going to be an awesome tournament.
Hey, also, I got to make culpa.
I said that Augusta has precision air.
Sawgrass has precision air.
Augusta has subair.
It was invented at Augusta, I believe.
My heart's been really, really heavy the last couple days
after I got that wrong on our preview show on Monday. So I just wanted to get that off my chest.
And then the Riddler was talking about sandcapping. All he said all the sandcapping
they've done the last few years. And so I'm curious to see if we see that play out over the next
day or two on those fairways. So it will certainly be interesting.
Cody's clearly trying to get us wrapped up.
I'm ready to get us wrapped up.
And next you're gonna hear from us,
there will be one round of play in the books
at Augusta National at the Masters.
Cannot wait.
I hope everyone enjoys the best week of the year.
Thanks as always to our friends at FanDuel and Roback.
