Starting point is 00:00:48 FanDuel. My name is DJ. We are, we're off to Hilton Head guys. I got a couple of my preeminent Hilton Head knowers on the podcast with me today. First of all, down there in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, enjoying the weather. Mike ITC, greetings. Hello. Greetings, Dave. It's gorgeous down here. I'm piping in bird noises. You can see my, my, my Poto carpets are absolutely going off back there in the background. I know Randy feels me.
Starting point is 00:01:15 I love that. You see, of course one of one of the foremost timeshare owners on the Eastern seaboard. Our guy big Randy Randall. Hello. Hey guys, big week for me. I had this building ahead on Friday. I'm gonna spend a week there. I'd actually get out to the tournament one day. We'll see. I haven't been in several years. So get getting back getting eyes on the property. Getting eyes around town. I can't wait. Are you going to Spicebush? Yes. Yes. I'm using my timeshare
Starting point is 00:01:48 week at Spicebush. So, you cannot wait to get into that but first, it is happy hour presented by our friends at FanDuel. Starting point is 00:02:16 birdies into bucks and hole-outs into payouts, Randy. All season long on the PGA Tour. Must be 21 and over and present in select states. Gambling problem call 1-800-GAMBLER or visit RG-HELP. Guys, notoriously the heritage is, it's the week after the Masters. You know, things are a little different now that it's a signature event. But it's still kind of one of those catch your breath weeks. Let's take it all a little bit slower. And so TC, in the spirit of that,
Starting point is 00:02:47 what do we got left in the notebook? Any lingering Rory thoughts, lingering master's thoughts, how are we feeling? First of all, it's heritage, not hate. Thank you, TC. Call that out. And for Randy, I hope that Spicebush is, as you left it years and years and years ago. I think from Masters
Starting point is 00:03:07 wise I shouted it out on X, the Everything app the other night, but the team rose presser was absolutely electric. I was talking to DJ a little bit about it and it was equal parts, like not vulnerable, but also like completely unguarded and just like the utmost professionalism, but also like really, really thoughtful, cogent answers. And I would encourage everybody to go listen to that. And then otherwise, I just, I don't know. I think it was like the more and more I think about it, the more I, you know, the more I consume in the aftermath of just, it was just a really cool day.
Starting point is 00:03:50 It was one of the cooler days we'll ever experience in golf. And, you know, I think, I think the weird part is like, I feel like he played better at Pinehurst, lost, and then he had Sunday at the Masters and won. And like, what a messed up game, you know? And, but all the failures made that day possible, right? Like without all the failure, it's not as special. So, yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:04:15 No, well said. I'll echo you on the Justin Rose press conference is one of my favorites that I've watched in a really long time. And I mean, you touched on it, but he's so freaking well-spoken. You know, I know that's maybe kind of obvious for somebody who's been around the game that long, but he's kind of this guy that I think for, you know, almost like Scotty in a way. Like for years and years, I think I always thought
Starting point is 00:04:39 that they were cliches or platitudes or kind of nothing burgers. And if you just listen a little closer, it's like, No, he is giving you a, there's a lot here, a lot to sink your teeth into and a lot to learn. And I felt that way so strongly at the Ryder Cup last year, when he was describing, you know, teams and how to get like how to draw the most out of your teammates and how to, you know, how to be a good leader and how like hearing him talk about that stuff. I'm like, man, you're not really talking about the writer cup here. You're kind of talking about like everything, you know, you're, you're, you're really bottom line and a lot of what it means to be on a team here.
Starting point is 00:05:17 And it's just, he's just a really, he's become a much, um, a much more, like he's, he's much higher on my power rankings of people I want to listen to and we've talked a lot about the team Rose bit and maybe putting some of that to bed and just kind of earnestly enjoying the twilight of Justin Rose's career. It's been really cool. But Randy, what about you from Masters? Anything leftover? I don't have a ton to add. I honestly just, um, comes as no surprise, but just enjoyed some of the personal. Reaction and it's always fun to see what Rory's win meant to like individual people. And I think that's something that's easy to, for me, certainly to lose track of or not quite graph. So, you know, like our buddy, Patty, right? Like, truly, I was
Starting point is 00:06:13 trading some notes with him. I'm like, congrats. Like I, this was your like, Mickelson winning in 04 moment was for me. And so I think just seeing that and hearing most emotional and emotional moment that I know for moment was for me and so I think just seeing that and hearing that from people made it that much cooler like Tron said it was it was a fabulous day of tournament golf and then you know seeing what
Starting point is 00:06:38 the day meant to people is is a nice cherry on top. Yeah. And then I would say go go listen to the podcast that we put out this morning. Neil and KVV and our guy Charles Van Kirk worked so hard on that. I've gotten so many great notes about that. Very, very proud of that. It feels like it's going to be like, man, it's just like the stars aligned there. For sure. That's kind of the way it goes sometimes with these things, man. I don't know. We've gotten very, very lucky just kind of being the right people in the right place
Starting point is 00:07:06 at the right time on a lot of this stuff throughout our career. And yeah, I mean, to have Neil, not only being there for the week with Rory and like obviously all that stuff, you know, just speaks volumes, but also just being in the right spot on 15 and being able to like be standing right there and, you know, being able to watch the shot shape.
Starting point is 00:07:26 And if you don't know what we're talking about, uh, those guys released a master's podcast overnight last night that it is, it's basically just natural sound of their week and rolling around with microphones, rolling around Augusta national with microphones, rolling and talking to patrons, talking to people, the concession stand, watch it like just a podcast version of watching a golf tournament. And it's just, it's, it's really, really freaking cool. And shout out to Augusta National for the approval to do such a project.
Starting point is 00:07:56 That, that was awesome. And it's just, it's, it's one of those, you know, I was talking to Neil about it last night, like it's just, it captures a moment in time incredibly interestingly, and in a very authentic way, I think, you know, it's, it's like, I think everybody knew when that last pot dropped on Sunday, okay, this is going to be a week that we're all talking about forever. And it's going to be automatically like 25 is going to be said in the same way that people say 86 and 19
Starting point is 00:08:26 and 04. Which deeds you kind of called it. Well, you know, thank you. I didn't want to bring that back up. I said it would sound like bragging, but I was trying to say, you know, every 10 years, man, you know, 65, 75, 85, 95, 05, 15. We've had these unbelievable stories. 25, I'm telling you. But yeah, to capture
Starting point is 00:08:46 it all in audio too is just another very interesting medium to look at it at. Because the Masters is like such a, it's probably the most visual tournament in the world. You can just close your eyes and picture the entire thing. But there's so many cool sounds to it that are so unique to the Masters as well. And the Masters roars and the concessions and all the whole thing. So if you haven't listened to it yet, please, please do. It's really cool. I'd say other content to shout out. Jeff Shackelford, I'm a longtime enthusiast, loyalist of his quadrilateral newsletter. I highly recommend that if you're into golf at all. I've never seen something so effusive and positive from Jeff.
Starting point is 00:09:35 So good. That was awesome. It looked like he was waiting 15 years to just be this bright, optimistic force. I mean, it was just great. It was incredible. So yeah, that was great. I mean, Rory dropped a banger today on his Instagram, or the Coldplay, the Coldplay fix you real. If you know, if you're an easy crier, that one's I was a little bummed they didn't, they didn't weave Randy into like, like, like kind of in the middle, it like fractures and, you know, it's kind of during the haters and losers on the consternation.
Starting point is 00:10:10 Yeah, they should have just put Randy's head of a platter right there. I was a little disappointed he hasn't taken any shots at me. You know, that that does hurt a little bit. There's still time. There's still time. He's just dragging it out. But well, guys, we are off to Harbor Town this week for the heritage, not hate, as you said, TC. This is a place that I think is a pretty, pretty formative golf tournament in the history of of NLU. I guess maybe I'll just talk, you know, to you guys both individually, Randy, I'll start with you. What's, what's your history at this event?
Starting point is 00:10:45 Why do you love this event? Why are you going down for this event? Yeah, I'd say this event is probably a big reason. To be clear, he's not going down for this event. You're going down because this is the best I'm sure is the key. Sure, sure. Good point. And that's an important distinction there, TC.
Starting point is 00:11:02 Yeah, well, as a family, we would always go down and growing up and they would always our spring breaks would overlap usually with with at least, you know, the starter, the end of the tournament. Here's a little fact about time shares, at least in spice Bush. It might be a lot of sea pines. They're Friday to Friday. So you're you're coming in on a Friday, you're leaving on a Friday and you're typically you're I'm either getting you know, Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton
Starting point is 00:11:37 Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the Hilton Head and the, what was fantastic about Hilton Head and this part of Hilton Head is you can ride a bike right down to Harbor Town and they would always have the big, you know, kind of build outs, right, that go along with any golf tournament, kind of like a fan village, if you will. And so as a kid, I would just love to go spend
Starting point is 00:12:07 really a lot of the day. you know you can hit putts and you can drive a ball into the net and you know they're giving you stuff and it was just a lot of fun. It was my first experience being around pro golf much more so than even like the memorial
Starting point is 00:12:23 up in Columbus. So that's strong memories. And then, you know, TC and I got down there a few times. I don't know, probably not during college, but like right after college. And then that leads in DJ, well, our 2014 was kind of our first board meeting with TC, myself, Neil and Solly all at uh Spicebush for the tournament. We recorded our very first podcast but then DJ, I was gonna say, what was
Starting point is 00:12:53 that? Four years later? Was it 2018? Twenty-seven? I, the years kinda blend but. Probably, no, it's probably sixteen or seventeen. Okay, yeah, it was before I moved right, Florida, maybe joined that. Oh, you for sure. Yeah. Well, I was gonna say I think that's the first time you you and I met in person. That's right. And me UTC, we went up, we drove, I guess it's not up down to Sea Island. And we met Panther Mike for the first time. So it's just like a lot of, I don't know, Harbertown has just had a recurring role in a lot of funny stories.
Starting point is 00:13:35 And it's just been a place where we've been together and golf has been going on. It's, yeah, it's a nice place with a lot of good memories for me. If you are watching on the live stream, you'll see us in that first photo. We drank about 75 of those Mick Ultra Cactus Limes, which might have only been made for one week, but we might have just drank them out. We were excited about those. Yeah, it was really quite a thrill. And then a couple other, you know, just epic golf photos of the boys here.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Randy looking like an amateur qualifier in the 1999 Open Championship here or something. Yeah, that's actually Randy's titleist driver that he played for almost the entirety of our Callaway sponsorship. That's right. Yeah, that's right. We're not quite sure what Shofield Schuster is though. A young Shofield Schuster just gathering news and notes on the putting green yeah, plaid shorts which I'd love to make fun of but I owned about
Starting point is 00:14:33 12 pairs of those myself. Yeah just an interesting time capsule there. TC, anything to add on your end? Yeah, no it's nice that you know like I used to go over in high school with buddies over to Harbor Town more during the summer and then had neighbors and yeah, it was kind of, it was, you know, four hours from Atlanta and then, yeah, Randy and I started going, like he said, I think probably 2011, 2012. DJ, my most impactful memory is probably finding out that they caught the Tsarnaev brothers that illustrious morning. They were hiding in the boat doing all that stuff. So that was crazy. That was in Boston though. That was not. Yeah, that was in Boston. Yeah, but I mean, it's really, it's cool, you know, uh, got salty dog and truffles and the crazy crab and, and just all sorts of
Starting point is 00:15:31 things. I think they've boost up Harbor Town, uh, in the, in the years since I've been, I think the last time I was up there was probably 2018, 2019. Um, it's, you know, I'm just thankful that the Ohioans and the Canadians even let me into Harbor Town. It's essentially like the entire state of Ohio just relocates to the South Carolina coast for me. Yeah, TC's right. I was going to say I should know the exact hurricane, but a few years ago, one of the hurricanes that came through did a lot of damage around the iconic lighthouse there
Starting point is 00:16:11 in Harbor Town and the boardwalk. And TC's right, I think they've built it back up and it's gonna look a little different because I haven't been in six, seven years myself. So that's part of my excitement for getting down there this weekend is to see what's new and also to see what has stayed the same because that's the other thing about Hilton Head is,
Starting point is 00:16:31 and it's probably a lot due to like the Ohio-ness of it is like things don't change. It's not like the most glamorous spot. People like what they like. They have their customs and they go to the, like TC said, the salty dog dog the crazy crab, you know You go get ice cream. It's just like you do what you do and nothing really changes Better or worse randy is uh is greg russell still doing his thing. He is yeah
Starting point is 00:16:57 um But I think he's rapping Like this week, I think he's rapping like as the tournament begins, so I'm not going to see him. And that was another shout out. TC on the Trap draw, we interviewed Greg Russell, who's this guy that's been playing guitar and singing under the old oak tree in Harbor Town for years and decades, decades. And again, just another institution. And I'll say the final thing as these memories kind of come flooding back in real time. the um again, just another
Starting point is 00:17:26 institution and I'll say the final thing as these memories kind of come flooding back in real time. I always got a kick out of when I was younger. You would see the professional golfers just living their lives around Hilton head by
Starting point is 00:17:42 day because they always it was a great place to bring the family. You know, you'd see, um, I don't know, Corey Pavin, Lee Jansen, whoever it may be with their kids at the Greg Russell concert. You'd see somebody out to dinner. Um, yeah, it's just fun. It's just, you know, you kind of, it's, you have fun celebrity sightings around the island too. Yeah. I think on the golf course side, like just from a standpoint of, A, like, you know, I know I, you know, I've, listen, I'm in a hundred year war with the Canadians here, but thank you to RBC for kind of helping keep this tournament afloat over the last, there were some kind of weird years there for a while in the post-MCI World Comp days. We're going to get into that in our Harbertown trip here shortly.
Starting point is 00:18:28 I don't know. This tournament to me is like, it's one of my favorite, it's probably a top four favorite golf tournament on the PGA Tour, like non-major version of just, this to me, like represents what the PGA Tour used to be and like the best of what it still is. I think the golf course is like, it's just an interesting, thought-provoking golf course. There's, it's a great course to watch golf on. Like I could stand behind nine, nine tee and watch players.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Like some guys hit six iron off that tee. Some guys hit drivers, some guys hit drivers to lay up. Like there's just a lot going on. It's a really thoughtful short par four. The finishing stretch is fantastic, like 14, 15. 16's a really interesting par four. 17's a great little par three. It's a great golf course, and I think it's agnostic. You got gotta hit your irons well, small greens. You can kind of hide your putting a little bit there. I think it's a cool spot on the calendar, even for like betting. We're going to talk about our picks and stuff. It's a cool spot on the calendar because guys are so frayed and they've been redlining the
Starting point is 00:19:39 engine at the Masters. But then there's guys like a Sepp Stracca who played like shit in the first round and then played pretty well on Friday. But then there's guys like a Sepp Straka who played like shit in the first round and then played pretty well on Friday and he's got to be chomping at the bit to get back out there while some of the other guys, the heavy favorites, played all weekend and probably exhausted. Yeah, which I think all of that has kind of added or has had a new wrinkle added to it with switching to a signature event, right?
Starting point is 00:20:03 Because you mentioned kind of some of those lean years where it became like who are most of these guys in the field. And now it's pretty much everybody but Rory will be there this week. Have you liked the move to the signature event? Do you feel like that takes any of the – we've talked about that at Pebble. It kind of takes an event that was really great and I think makes it even better. I feel makes it even better. I feel similarly about this event. I'm curious where you guys stand. I do like it because one thing I always yearn for
Starting point is 00:20:35 was a lot of big names or a lot of guys who I wanted to see play Harbor Town would skip it. And so I do like that since it's become a signature event we are seeing names that we wouldn't otherwise see. So yeah I guess where I net out is I'm in favor of it. I'm not sure honestly it has to be a signature event like forever. I'd be okay if it eventually like transitioned off or went on some type of school. Um, because there is just like a fun magic, like let down, like it's just a special week because of the golf course, because of the setting, because it's
Starting point is 00:21:15 always right after the masters. Um, it, it, it always has that feel to it, but yeah, overall I've, I've enjoyed seeing like the Schefflers and Spies and some of the big names that probably would have just always skipped it had it not turned into a signature event. I totally agree. I think it's cool to see guys that wouldn't smack you in the face as a course fit having to play here. And some of the course fit stuff even is interesting too, because the best example of this is Davis Love winning the tournament five times and everybody talking about like, Oh, this isn't a course for bombers. Here's a chance for the other guys. And Davis Love's point
Starting point is 00:21:50 was always, well, like, yeah, the reason I play so well here is because I'm a bomber and I don't have to hit any drivers. And so I think there's like a weird push and pull between back in the day when the driver was harder to hit, Davis Love would just hit one iron everywhere and he talks about weeks where he would only hit one driver a day type of stuff. Whereas now the driver has become even easier to hit and so it has kind of thrown skill sets out of whack a little bit.
Starting point is 00:22:17 And so it's just really interesting push and pull where you look at your last year, it's like yeah, well of course Scotty won because he's the best iron player you know and like that it's it's just an interesting interesting wrinkle here but guys before we move on I want to shout out our friends at Roback. You all already know Roback has our favorite polos hoodies shorts pants you name it best fit best feel Randy have you heard that before?
Starting point is 00:22:44 That's I love it. Now we, best feel. Randy, have you heard that before? Best fit, best feel. Now we're in the heart of spring, as you can see in TC's backyard there. And Roback is dialing up some of their incredible polo designs. I've been spying some of the florals. You know, TC, we had the Azalea collection we were shouting out last week.
Starting point is 00:22:59 If you're not a floral guy, we got their Fairway Fusion polo, which is awesome. If you like the classics, Randy's a classics guy. Got some fun stripe combos going as well. I think that's gonna play down at Hilton Head this week, Randy. Their Delta Looper shorts are back in stock for the spring as well.
Starting point is 00:23:19 Shorts are super comfortable, perfect for some spring golf. So it's time to load up on Robac. Now that it's spring, use the code NLU on robac.com for a generous 20% off your first order through the end of this week. That's robac, R-H-O-B-A-C-K.com. 20% off all polos, shorts, and more with code NLU. Guys, you wanna do a little trivia?
Starting point is 00:23:41 Put together a little. Real quick, real quick, Dej. I was just looking at sponsor exemptions. I'm on high alert. The the speech discourse could could get could get spicy this week. Speed was granted a sponsor exemption to the tournament along with Randy's guy Ricky and Mackenzie Hughes and who was the last Matt Kutcher, the last one, which is kind of full circle for us, the 2014 champ when we were there recording first podcast. So I have a soft spot in my heart for sponsor exemptions for past champions. And first of
Starting point is 00:24:15 all, I would, I would not Brian gay here then I would give an exemption in every tournament he ever wants to play. People know that who've listened to this podcast for a long time. But I mean, he wanted like two years ago, three years ago, you know, like, I'm totally fine with it. Kutcher is, Kutcher is interesting, you know, but yeah, that that does harken back to that first NLU podcast for sure. The Ricky stuff, Randy, I'll leave that to you. That's your block. Where's big Stu sink? Let's get Stu sink down here. I know that's your block. Where's big Stu's sink? Let's get Stu's sink down here.
Starting point is 00:24:46 Yeah, that's the kitchen on Finish Biz. All right, I got a little bit of a Harbor Town heritage trivia for you guys. We'll go through this pretty quick. I think you're gonna do okay. Yeah, also Deidre, West Brian did not get an exemption. It's in here. Barmer Channel.
Starting point is 00:25:04 Seems like it probably would have had to be given back not going to get an exemption in here. It seems like it probably would have had to be given back based on the news that is coming across the wire. True or false guys? Every iteration of the heritage has been played at Harbor Town.
Starting point is 00:25:22 True. Yeah, I feel like that's true. You know what? This blew my mind. That is true. The tournament started in 1969. Harbor Town opened in 1967. Of course, a Pete Dye Jack Nicholas collab was their first PGA tour course for either of those guys. I didn't know this. Originally it was played in late November. And then it moved to mid September for a year or for a little bit then March for a year, finally settled in April in 1983. So there you have it been played in Harbor Town every year. That's got to be such a rarity for events on the
Starting point is 00:25:57 PJ tour. You know, you look like what some events like that. They moved around so much like the the late 60s, 70s. But this one's one place the whole time. Pretty cool. How about that? Good job. You guys are both one for one. Davis Love, I mentioned this is famously won the tournament five times. You guys know that. Two other people have won this tournament three times a piece. Can you name them? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:26:26 Well, I know one is to sink. One is to sink. It's exactly. And I'm trying to think. I'm guessing the other one is a little older. He is a little older. I'll give you a hint. I think he has a distinction for another tournament that he won three times as well. Marco Mira. Good guess. Good guess. Um, God, I could like, is it somebody like Billy Android or, uh, no, a little more, a
Starting point is 00:26:59 little more gravitas than that. No offense to Penny Android. Huh. Of course the the the illusion I was making is that this person also won the US Open three times. That is. Jack Nickens? Ayl Irwin. Oh sure. Sure. Ayl Irwin and Big Stu Sink. Unfinished Bizz are the other guys who've won the Heritage three
Starting point is 00:27:22 times a piece. Iron player, you know. There you have it. Alright, this was personal research, but I'm pretty confident that this is correct. Since the event moved to April, I mentioned in 1983, it's very traditionally occupied that spot in the week after the Masters. I believe only two people have won both the Masters and the Heritage in the same year. Can you guys think of who they are?
Starting point is 00:27:54 Last year was one, right? Scotty Scheffler. The other one's tough, but it's kind of a topical kind of a topical one. That's a great question. Sadoshi Kodaira. I don't think he won the masters that year. 18. I think that was P that one that year. Okay. Hint. How many masters did this person win? Two. Two.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Fuzzy? I think he only won one. I think he only won one. He only won his debut. Oh. Uh not all a problem. I will give you a hint that uh. Good iron player. You know? I think if memory serves TC's parents were in attendance. Oh, Langer? Bernhard Langer in 1985 won both the Masters and the Heritage. You want to play off over Bobby Watkins. So there's a little trivia question. Another great trivia.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Stop your old man with that one. All right. We'll move through this fairly quick. I won't make you guys linger on this too much, but you know, we've talked about being huge, huge fans of the heritage. Let's see if we can go year by year. Let's see how many, how many winners you guys can name going back. I can give you a little hints if, if we need, but I, there's going to be some names in here that are going to make you, make you chuckle
Starting point is 00:29:21 a little bit. So 2024, Randy, I'm gonna give you this one. That was Scottie Scheffler. We know that. We know that. 2023. I'll give you a hint. Massive guy fucking loves Hilton Ed. Oh, I do know this. Fitsy. And this is what I'm talking about. I remember distinctly remember seeing a young fitzy at the salty dog ice cream shop getting ice cream cones with his parents and his girlfriend. Yeah, of course. Of course. He loves Hilton
Starting point is 00:29:51 Head. At the Lighthouse head cover for a while. Yes. Uh 2022. This was referenced earlier in the pod. The return to glory. The Lynx Master. My guy. The Lynx Master Jordan. Winning at the Harvard Town Golf Links the return to glory. The links master. My guy, the links master Jordan. Winning at the Harvard town golf links. Unbelievable. 2021, another links master. I'll give you a hint.
Starting point is 00:30:14 Oh, this was Kitchen. This was Kitchen. Stuart Zink, 47 years old, and it was his second win of the season. Yeah, he will forget. Yeah, I think he won in Napa as well. 2020, this was the COVID year. I remember this one distinctly because CBS was like,
Starting point is 00:30:33 this was like when they started really rolling out all their. Nobody could make it. Nobody could make a bogey. Yeah, web. It was web. And it was like really dry and sunny and like kind of dusty. It's really cool. I think we watched that one together at the Kailhass. I remember that. 2019. This was a, he won over Matt Kutcher. This is a, this is a tough one. You could be forgiven for
Starting point is 00:30:55 for not getting this one. Yeah, this was the bread man, C.T. Pan won this one. 2018. TC references earlier guy invented Bitcoin. Oh, Satoshi, Satoshi, Kodaira. I don't have a ton of memories for that one. No, I don't either. I was just gonna say that the year was windy as shit. I think it's been windy there a couple of times. I don't remember the years every now and again. There was a year, Randy, when I just remember driving home on the Sunday, listening to the final round on SiriusXM, PGA Tour Radio.
Starting point is 00:31:33 And it was blowing 35, 40. That might have been earlier on, like 13 or 15 or 16. Haven't really done a deep dive on Sadoshi Kataira's career since this this dub, but not a ton of success to follow that one, I don't think. But he did get into the winner's circle that day. 2017. Sounds like this player was recently suspended. Oh, the West right. West Brian. 2016, I think this was a really windy year as well. This was first kind of shoot 62 at a major championship. Oh, Brandon Grakes. Oh yeah. Is correct. 2015, I have no recollection of this tournament whatsoever. It was this person's second win at the event Looks you know
Starting point is 00:32:31 I Think Luke Donald actually we Know he wanted a couple times though Jim Furek one in 2015 2014. I know you guys know this one podcasting on the grounds Got was cooch. That was a great tournament too. It was. Was that when he hold the bunker shot to win, right? Yeah. 2013. I think I remember this one because I remember him being the defending champ,
Starting point is 00:32:57 GMAC. Exactly right, TC. Hell yeah. Was that the really windy one by chance? I think it might have been. I remember that was, yeah. the really windy one by chance? I think it might've been. I remember that was that yeah. It's been windy a couple times
Starting point is 00:33:09 but I remember that. Cuz every every few years you'll get the winning score like single digits. Yes. And then otherwise it's like a ton of birdies usually. Deeds, how many more years you got? Cuz I wanna pull it up on. I got I got five
Starting point is 00:33:22 more. Okay. Twenty-twelve. I need a hint. Are we getting into the Boo Weekly years? Yeah. The only Swede to ever win. Oh, Hot Carl. Hot Carl Peters. Yeah. Uh they like that. Freddy Yoc should have won this at some point. Just with the scrambling abilities. Exactly. He never did. I don't think. Uh 2011. So, this guy only won it once. God, he seems like he's like, if you told me he was a five time heritage champion, I'd be like, Oh, absolutely hell of a career. God just seems like he should win here all the time. Good, good ish guess. He's an American guy
Starting point is 00:33:57 though. Was on a tear at this time 2011 FedEx cup winner. Will Haas? No, good guess. One of Torrey Pines. Oh, Snedeker? Snedeker. Doesn't he just seem like he would have like three heritage victories. 2010 was the year that Brian Davis called that penalty on himself in the playoff. I'm sure you guys will remember. Oh, he ticked the read.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Tick the read and then never won a sheet of paper right after that. Shout out to Ted Purdy, right? Exactly. Right. Kitchen again right there, yeah. This was Furek that was the beneficiary of that and 09TC I wanted to end on this one. Brian Gay. I won by 10 shots.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Yeah. Brian Gay. There's one of the most, like there should be a 30 for 30. We should do an NLU deep dive on the beer. Brian gave one by 10 shots at Harvard town. I totally agree. It was a dominant dominant victory. So what, what were you going to look up? I just want to look up after that. We had boo weekly, went back to back years.
Starting point is 00:35:01 Aaron badly, Peter's Lawnard kitchen, Davis loves final one in Oh three, Justin Leonard, Jose Caceres, and then Stewart's first in 2000. So you guys can call us the rest of the Heritage winners. I feel like Woody Austin should have won this event multiple times, he's never won it once. The guy that Luke Donald was runner up in 09, 2011, 2014, 2016, and 2017. No wonder I had that in my head. Yeah, I would have lost a lot of money on betting whether
Starting point is 00:35:34 he'd won this tournament or not. Now granted, one of those runner up finishes was tied with Bryony Baird, 10 shots behind Bryony Baird. It's a little bit of a 2000 US Open situation. But again, like that whole segment just bears out, like why we love this tournament. Yeah, exactly. Dej, I just want to get ahead of something on you, too. A crack research team that we got here,
Starting point is 00:35:55 you were right about the two players that you said that won the Masters and the RBC Heritage in the same year. You're actually missing one, though. Jack did it in 1975. Just so happened that the Heritage was held prior to the Masters, but in the same year. I appreciate that. I don't want to get on your research as the way I had to get on Solize the other day, but I did say since it moved to April in 1983. What month was it in in 75? Because this is the 50th anniversary, so for you to slight
Starting point is 00:36:24 him on the 50th anniversary, which Harvard's not going to be happy. Jack's not going to be happy. Also, there's only three of them in the history. It's a weird thing to kick the one guy out. I mean, he's the course designer. Well, that's why I was trying to it's interesting because it's back to back weeks. It's not interesting if it's if it's separate, you know, is what I was thinking. But yeah, I guess the statistics people can, they're, you know, is what I was thinking. But yeah, because the statistics people can, they're there, you know, they're there to be manipulated. It's okay. I appreciate it, Cody adds to the tapestry. Thank you to you and the researchers. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Guys, let's just a couple little news and notes before we get to our who won the first one. I believe Arnold Palmer won the first one. Mr. Palmer. Mr. Palmer won the first one in 1969. And it was kind of, I mean, hitters only. Bob Goldby, Hale Erwin, John Miller, Hale Erwin again, John Miller again, Jack Hubert Green, Graham Marsh, your boys to see. Tom Watson.
Starting point is 00:37:19 It's probably one of those places that the course has gotten a lot easier, or a lot harder, because the trees have grown in so much. Yeah. Which I think kind of brings to my next point, which is after this year's event, we've got an announcement that we're going to have a full restoration planned at Harbor Town, which is going to be spearheaded by Davis Love III, Love Golf Design.
Starting point is 00:37:40 The plan is to make improvements to the agronomy and maintenance, rebuild the bunkers and bulkheads. This is from a PJTour.com piece from our guy, Sean Martin. And quote, this is from Davis Love, an older caddy will probably say, hey, it's more like the original, but the player who's only played the tournament once might not notice a whole lot of difference. It's going to be very subtle. So I think it's a lot of like green expansion, creating some more pins, getting it back to like stacks, odd bunkers, how it used to be and just, just kind of spit shine and things a little bit.
Starting point is 00:38:16 So TC, what was your, your reaction to this news? All for it. I think, you know, we've talked about it a little bit in the past, but I think it's, it's really interesting to kind of track who, who's getting the call to do these Pete Dye restorations. You've got, in other instances, like Dokes done a little bit at Cricket Stick, but I don't think he's doing a lot. He's trying to wind down on that front. So I think you've got DL3 and Scott Sherman.
Starting point is 00:38:44 You've got Andrew Green. You've got Bo Welling out there. There's kind of a few different contenders for this. I think I'm forgetting somebody too, but Bobby Weed. So yeah, it's just interesting. I think DL3 is doing a lot of the player stuff as well here at TPC. So kind of similar vintage of Pete Dye stuff there as well. So all for it. And I also think that, I don't know, I'm not being to project my own things on anybody
Starting point is 00:39:18 else, but I've been guilty in the past of kind of just defaulting to see in DL3 as like kind of vanilla and milk toast and whatever. And I think he's much, much, much more interesting and switched on than people realize. And Randy, I'll throw the tree on number six at TBC Sawgrass as an example of like, man, if that's the hill you're going to die on, like, hell yeah, let me know how I can help, dude. Like let's get you what you need to do more of this stuff. So that's great. Like very, very interesting to do. I've talked to him a couple of times
Starting point is 00:39:54 about the kind of design philosophy and stuff. And yeah, he's very much like a good iron player, right? Like wants to challenge guys, Tita Green. And once the, like Randy, I think of a hole like 14 at Harbortown. I think if I'm thinking of the 10 hardest golf shots on tour to hit, especially if there's a little bit of wind going, that's got to be wonderful. That green and fronted with the pond on the front right
Starting point is 00:40:21 and then that chip back towards the water there, that for me is a shot that I go out there in person or even on TV and then that chip back towards the water there. Like that's that for me is a shot that like I go out there in person or even on TV and watch that shot and I know immediately how much better these guys are than everybody else in the world. That picture behind my setup here in my office is the 14th. That's yeah it's uh it's it's fabulous i i'm really um i'm glad that it's going to be subtle touches right because i i think it's a wonderful golf course it's it's such a nice change of pace from what we see most weeks uh on tour stops so yeah uh t's and p's i guess just to see pines that that thing's a cash cow i don't know if they're
Starting point is 00:41:04 shutting down play to do all this or if people are going to be playing while the construction work is going on. I believe it will be shut down based on that Q&A with Sean Martin. They said it's planning to reopen in November, which I think kind of illustrates it. It's not, you know, get the dynamite out and blow everything up It's much more of a more subtle touch But I mean that was kind of their point Randy like he mentions that Mentioned sea pine specifically and just their ethos of like hey man if we're gonna do it
Starting point is 00:41:36 Let's do it because we're only doing this once like we're not They don't seem like they're the kind of place that's like let's go Let's do this every three years every five years every eight years I think they're like, let's keep this thing rolling if we can. So yeah, exciting. Should be firm next year too. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Should be firm this year. I mean, it hasn't rained a whole lot in the Southeast here over
Starting point is 00:42:00 the last month and a half. Other big notable item to mention on the Olympics front, the IOC confirmed the addition of a mixed team event for Olympic golf, which is going to debut at Riviera in 2028. As far as the specifics and logistics go, there's going to be a separate event and take place after the men's competition and before the women's competition. So it'll be a 36 hole deal with 18 holes of foursomes alternate shot and 18 holes of four
Starting point is 00:42:33 ball one man one woman, a maximum of one team per country. And it's going to be basically one man one woman of the qualified people for the individual competition. So the people who are already there to play the individual competition in the middle of those two will play a mixed team event. I am so bullish on this idea. I think it's gonna be so freaking fun. And I can't wait.
Starting point is 00:42:59 I'm curious, initial reaction for this and any teams you guys are gonna have your early, early, early eye on here? I would say the Japanese, Hideki and either Firoe or whoever emerges from that. I'd say Thailand, but I'm not sure who's playing well on the men's side from Thailand. Got some time. Sweden. Sweden's made mean, Sweden made for this. Whether that's Madeleine. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:28 Yeah, I mean, Scotty and Nellie maybe for Team USA would be fun. Remind me, does the did Rory? What flag does Rory compete under? Did he go Irish last time? Last time? Okay. Yeah. I was just thinking maybe it'll be Tommy and Charlie. I was thinking of the English pairing. I'm super excited. One there's one from each country. One team, one team from each country, which is unbelievable, man. Even I think to, you know, the little game within the game, especially on like the American side or UK side or whatever to kind of identify. Could be a Valomaki and Matilda Castor. It's gonna say I don't know, hopefully,
Starting point is 00:44:14 all kinds of those only one could be Lydia and Foxy. God representing New Zealand. That pisses me off. You know that? I think a fun potential one would be Minji and Minwoo for Australia, but I guess Minwoo is in a good position. Yeah, for sure. Three years from now. Yeah. I think it's fabulous. Schedule wise too.
Starting point is 00:44:38 What was that TC? It'll be really interesting to see how this works schedule wise from like a, you know, PGA tour or PGA schedule. That's a lot of a lot of moving parts, but you know getting this far out ahead of it Hopefully it shouldn't be an issue There also might be less events at that point. That's true exactly Yeah, so very very pumped about this This edition I think this is a perfect bridge between the two individual contests and I think it's gonna get the the, get the people going, man,
Starting point is 00:45:06 especially the all shot and watching, like especially the all shot at rave only one team per country. Like there's a, this has a lot of awesome things going for it. And I think we'll be a huge success. And hopefully we've been beating this drum for a long time, but hopefully a precursor to maybe we could reinvent the president's cup. Maybe we can reinvent a couple of these things that haven't necessarily had all the juice
Starting point is 00:45:31 that they maybe could. But yeah. TC, it's time to make some picks. Why don't you take us to our FanDuel section here? Gladly. We've got, God, I love this kind of week, Dej. We've got all sorts of fun stuff cooked up. There's an opposite field event this week too, the Corrales Punta Cana down in the Dominican Republic. So let's just get right to it. I think the first one we always
Starting point is 00:45:59 like to do is the three or four man NLU parlay uh you know cross our stuff and DJ uh Solly was gonna be on this show but you were you were adopting his picks. Yeah I was a late a late call up from from AAA Milwaukee today so I haven't unpacked my bags I'm just I'm taking Solly's locker uh I'm getting all his picks which are provocative., who does he have in this slot right here? He has Aaron Rye, which I don't know if that's just a, you know, middle finger to you. I don't know if that's an earnest pick. I don't know if he's just kind of, I don't know what he's going. He's going deep on Aaron Rye this week at the end, which I know is a good course fit.
Starting point is 00:46:40 You know, he's a, he's a ball striker. He drives it straight. Yeah. 83. He's got a pretty good course fit. You know, he's a he's a ball striker. He drives it straight. Um yeah. 83. He's he's got Aaron Rye in the uh is
Starting point is 00:46:54 it a top twenty parlay? It looks like a top twenty plus one twenty-five. Uh I've got JT Poston. Love that. And then Randy, you're kind of going off board here. Uh yeah, I got a little I don't know if I'm I got my keep that string going. the I'm having uh that good of a fit here. Randy, that's why that's why I come to you for my picks dog. That's right. That's right. Randy's all over the top 20 parlays this week. You gotta you got a couple other ones for us Randy. Your fun one. Oh I do um oh shoot sorry I don't have that
Starting point is 00:47:56 up in front of me. I gotta pull it up here. Yeah Kutcher and Patrick Rogers. Patrick Rogers and these are all on the FanDuel site under knowing of special. So you can find them. Yeah. Well, Patrick Rogers, I talked about. Cooch is kind of a, I don't know. We're just feeling all sentimental this week, I think. I've thought a lot about that 2014 year.
Starting point is 00:48:18 We just recorded a special podcast. I'll be coming out in a couple of weeks. I just had Coocher on the mind. And so what the heck? Let's get a little weird and see if he can channel some magic And then you got one with the heavies do the top 20 with the heavies. You got Scotty can't lay a day So can't lays every day. I mean Scotty's great. See right Cantlay's been fabulous here the last few years. I don't know why I like Jay Day this week.
Starting point is 00:48:45 I was pretty impressed with his play. Yeah, I kind of like that Augusta. Like he didn't make as many birdies as other guys, but he just played really solid. TC though, it's always hard to know who's just gonna be mentally, physically exhausted or like who can ride some of those fields from the Masters? I don't know but I do like JD. I think Scottie's like got some red ass after the Masters and he wants to like you know put the pedal down before the before the PGA Championship.
Starting point is 00:49:18 Yeah. So yeah. And then Randy let's just keep going with you. You've got a really provocative group, Winter Parlay, cooked up here. Randy's mega bonus, it's called. So give me Scheffler, right? I think Mav McNeely is a guy that I'm hoping is feeling some, I don't know, both unfinished business from last week, but also should be proud.
Starting point is 00:49:40 He played in his first Masters, made the cut, yada yada. So I had M Matt McNeely and then JT Poston, TCI like JT. He's just solid at Harbor Town. I don't know why, I just kind of associate him with being a good fit here. For them to win their respective groups together is a plus 4,000 part of that's that's a big boy one A E and F for the groups there and Randy I've looked at the forecast this week
Starting point is 00:50:12 forecast looks like unbelievable like high 70s low 80s not much wind just Sunny every day. It should be a like a kind of a turkey shoot out there a little bit. Guys, can I read JT Poston's record here? Please. And granted, listen, not all of these were signature events, so this event has kind of. T3, missed a cut. T5. That's bonkers. That is crazy that that's that good. Made the cut at the Masters last week. Yeah, that's wild. Yeah. Dej, take us to Sully's place. Sure. Yeah, like you said, I think uh Sally got a lot of **** for no respect to
Starting point is 00:51:07 Aaron Rye last week. Uh even though Aaron Rye, I I will side with Sally did not really contend and it was hard for him to compete. Uh it's only maybe trying to send the message that this is not a hard golf course. Oh, that's why I can this can be kind of like a sub tweet of. Well, his first parlay, Aaron Rye, JT Post and Top 10 parlay. That's interesting. That's a big ask, Top 10 parlay. But it's interesting. His next one, Aaron Rye, Sebstraka, Top 20 parlay. I like that one a little more. That's only plus 428 though, at least in this book. Maybe it was juiced a little bit. And then the other one, I mean, this kind of goes to what we were just
Starting point is 00:51:53 saying about JT Poston, but JT Poston first round leader is going off at 50 to one plus 5,000. So that's a fun one to, you know, if a guy guy's gonna catch the form why not? Yes, man. Come on digging Yeah, that's right. Um I've got a matchup parlay cooked up here guys. I've got Fleetwood over Lowry can't lay over JT Spieth over Hovland and burger over spawn So no notes TC clock going on there the the the
Starting point is 00:52:27 the the the the the the the the
Starting point is 00:52:43 the the his course record here is is and then missed a cut once, but then T3, T7, T3 before that. It's crazy. So very similar to the postman, but God, yeah, if he hasn't missed a cut, he's finished in the top seven. Yeah, so basically that cuts it down to like, all right, either Strauker or Connors need to finish in the top 10, because Cantlay's just seems like. And then I've got a Cantlay,'t lay English Horschel top 20 in ties, uh, you know, H E's playing as good as anybody in the world right now.
Starting point is 00:53:30 T to green, I think just from an iron striking perspective, uh, can't let we talked about him and then Horschel. I think Horschel is going to win this tournament at some point. I was convinced he was going to win it. This was like maybe five or six years ago. Um, he plays well. I think he's just a really good iron player. And I've got some Punta Cana top 20 singles plays.
Starting point is 00:53:50 These are not parlays. Actually, Smalley top 10, Lauer top 20, and Toasty top 10. Just singles plays there. Just sprinkling the board a little bit. You know, we've got Keith Mitchell is the favorite down there this week. Matt Wallace is a good play as well. Then really, I think my big play of the week is Daniel Berger plus $5,000 win. I felt like we had a mind meld the other day.
Starting point is 00:54:22 It was similar to the Lucas Glover thing. It just hit me. I was just like, oh Glover thing. It just kind of hit me. I was just like, oh my God, of course Daniel Berger is going to win this week. Of course. Cody, I sent over some stuff, some visuals of the straight vibe in Fleet, the Armada, headed up the coast. Yeah. Tell me this guy's not winning at Hilton Head. I mean, it's just, it's like it was written in the stars,
Starting point is 00:54:51 you know, the straight vibing, you know, fleet commander, the Admiral. Yeah. You know, just like, God, it would be awesome. God, he's the best. He's the best. We mentioned it last year or last week on the live shows, but kind of from that maybe something maybe nothing category TC him wishing himself a happy birthday on Instagram. That was really good. I just I think he's he's about to pop. It's I'm with you TC. I'm on the same block on the year
Starting point is 00:55:22 on the one and only all You know you TC I'm on the same block on the year on the one and you know travelers things of that nature yeah so Sally's got Aaron rye plus 4500 you just just keep keep going down that that that wormhole there Neil has Shane Lowry plus 2800 Shane looked a little tired at the end of of coming off that 81 on Sunday yeah I'm sure he partied yeah it's true spoiler makers with the rib KVV a man after my own heart going with HE 90 to 90 to 1 I think this is a hard I think this is a hard, I think this is a hard play. If I'm being honest, just to let the people in, I think, I think Harris was sending him some unsolicited DMS about the about the new Jason Isbell record
Starting point is 00:56:12 and they were going back and forth about that. I think that may have influenced our guys picks there, but maybe not. If you already had this one locked in on the board. I'll say H.E. though, uh strikes me as like a guy that not necessarily because of golf reasons, but just because of who he is. He should win at Harbor Town at some point. I just feel like he fits like a glove in in in Hilton Head. This is like all the people talk about how Rory should win at the old course for the good of the game. Like now for your resume, HG, you got to be a champion at Hillbent. Yeah, and really a lot of those Sea Island guys.
Starting point is 00:56:51 Go party with one here. Like, go party at the British Open pub afterwards. That's just off island, though. I don't know if I want to send people off island. Is that it TC? And then and then Randy and he's got JD. Yeah, I took JD. I take this pick Randy.
Starting point is 00:57:12 Not like a ton of I think he's got like four top 25s and seven career starts. This is more of a I don't know. I was just liking some stuff I saw from him last week. He's definitely going to win again on the PGA Tour. And I a week like this could be absolutely where it happened. I think that's kind of a I'm long long J day I think he's he's played really good golf and is gonna pop it in the winter circle again. I agree I think so Scottie's like three and a half to one this week. basically. Yeah, I mean, he's probably going to win. But Colin at plus 1100 feels, I don't know, he seemed a little off last week, but speaking
Starting point is 00:57:50 of guys that should win this event at some point in their careers, if you're an elite iron player like Colin, probably, you know. How are you feeling about Ludwig? I don't know. I think Ludwig was pretty, I don't know, you know, got close again, got kind of into the mix and then imagine he was pretty disappointed on Sunday night. So we'll see kind of how, you know, how he reacts there. Yeah, we'll see. I mean, true, true wait and see, you know. Same thing like Russell Henley should play well at this event. You know, Premium iron player kind of knows how to play on Bermuda. Like this is another thing about this tournament.
Starting point is 00:58:30 It's Bermuda. It's not overseated Ry. It's real ass Bermuda. Ball strikers like these southern guys, the southeastern guys should thrive here, I think. And also, I mean, this is always kind of a meme, but, always kind of a meme, but when they got the bulldozers ready to go right behind the tournament, maybe they pushed the golf course a little more. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:58:50 You know, don't have to worry about losing it. Just go ahead and ship it, man. It's glassy. Yeah, get it firm and fast out there. With Steege, I mean, if that happens, you know who I'm picking. Cory Connors. Thomas Fleetwood.
Starting point is 00:59:03 Of course. Of course. Plus 3300. I'm sorry. Corey Connors. Thomas the next week for me is Sung J. Yeah, I feel a little like uh like Sully was talking about Rory on the Sung J front which is I'm I'm just going to miss that one. That's okay. Yeah. I just don't I just don't want to be part of it. Which that's
Starting point is 00:59:35 fair too. Uh but he's got some but you're right. He's he's playing nice. Course history and yeah. Well, guys, right? A little bit more uh little bit more value out of out of burger. He's up to plus fifty-five hundred. I saw that. Well, before the show, all the sharps are gonna take our picks. I'm sure. Are you guys in or out on a spieth top ten?
Starting point is 00:59:57 Uh it is a final round on Easter. TC. Oh. We know that's kind of the day to roll the rock. Uh which is which is the the the the the the the the
Starting point is 01:00:24 the the had a million mud balls and that was skewing stats and who knows? Listen, I'll go a little bit. I'll go bullish on on speed. You know, take a nibble on speed maybe. Well, that's just heart. Yeah. I think that's fair. One more thing I want to shout out. The PGA Tour website, if you go to their field list each week now, they get, there's a drop down menu. You've got a course fit, you've got a previous finishes tab, and it's just making, and how they qualify for the tournament as well. And it's just putting this stuff in one place on the PGA Tour website instead of having to go to six other different sites like Data Golf or OWGR or whatever. It's like, man, like, good, like good on you guys. Thank you. You finally, you know, like it took way too long, but you're investing in your product.
Starting point is 01:01:11 This is part of your product. And I appreciate that. Hell yeah. Yeah. Uh, no, sorry. The other guy, what do you, what do you guys make of, uh, I'm, but two names and I feel like I'm going to what do you what do that's going to be a it's probably gonna be Rory or it's probably gonna be Scotty. And this week feels kind of wide open weirdly and so to your point it's like it's kind of one of those weeks where it's like what do you think about JT? Yeah. He's kind of like a lot of people. What do you think about Xander? Absolutely. Could see it man. Sounds great. I'm kind of you know which is fun. Yeah show me mode with with
Starting point is 01:02:22 JT. Yeah he's been playing really nice. Even going back to like what the desert AMX. Like syncing it all up the same week, you know, the putter and all that. Yeah. Which again, it's kind of that, you know, chasing day thing where like, it's going to happen. One of these weeks, it's just, it's, it's hard to time. But wouldn't be shocked at all. Yeah. And then after this week, it gets, you know, we go to Zurich and then to TPC, Craig ranch. So it's kind of last proper golf course.
Starting point is 01:02:54 Soak it up. Soak it up. I think another dark horse this week, bud Colley, you never got that. Yeah. Played really well on a die course kind of, you know, last big time out for him and, you know, should be a course fit too. How did he? His skill set. Get in the field. Is that, A, it must be swing five or whatever? I would think so. Yeah, he's like mega, mega up there now. So. Well, it should be a great week, guys. You guys got me even more fired up for it appreciate the the memories appreciate the the enthusiasm for the picks Excited to see what happens and excited to talk about it again on the live show on Sunday night
