Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for tuning back in. Episode two of the No Lang Up Official Podcast. Unfortunately, not all in the same room this time. We are in four different cities spread out across the United States, but here to deliver our usual scalding hot takes. We have a short agenda. Thank you for everyone that sent questions in,

and we'll try to get to as many of those as we can. First topic we want to discuss is of course the players championship this weekend which Martin Kimer won by a narrow one shot margin over Jim Fure. The Terminator. The Terminator I guess is apparently his new nickname. The big story of the weekend was Jordan Speaf, I guess, failing to convert a 54-hole lead again.

I'd actually been laughing about you guys. I've been pleasantly surprised with the lack of panic columns that I thought I was going to see these last couple days. What have you guys thought? You know, I think we headed off most of those concerns pretty early on, listen. On Sunday with our, you know, tweets over and over and over again about basically preempting any talk of speech, you know, lacking pop, not being a little far. I'm sorry. I think the biggest key I actually thought Jason Sovos column today was the best at saying that we just need to maintain perspective.

And at this point in their career, Tiger and Speed both have the same amount of victories, which is one, at the age of 20. And Tiger had in one of his first major it's it's speed wins a major this year it will be it before tiger won his first major and everyone i i know it's in these these horrible takes the people saying tiger would have stepped on climbers throughout and all the stuff but no yeah maybe twenty four year old tiger would have but twenty year old tiger wasn't quite there yet and even that

the the tiger if we're going to keep comparison comparing tiger and speech work we're gonna flip on speech way too quickly it's a ridiculous comparison they really can't be made but you want to make it it's not straight yet you know this is that this is young niel shaman in from the west coast you know i would say comparing anybody tiger is like playing

point we talk about uh... surgeo burying that put on eighteen to sneak up the leaderboard there i thought that was about you yeah general he's from real i believe he's from Rio. Did Sergio even play that well? I mean, honestly. No, I thought you were putting it up.

It was pretty good. Other than that, like, shanked pot on 17 on Saturday. I mean, you missed like a 2.5 footer. I think I was like, every time I saw him, every time I saw him, he was like hoping his iron with one hand like Fred Macriffing it, you know. Yeah. He's only 11. Yeah, he didn't seem like he really had a day game. He'd agree. Well, what's that shot at 11? Can we

talk about that shot on 11 that he hits in the pine shore? I mean, can we talk about that shot on 11 that he had from the pine straw. I mean, it was a dumb. It was the dumbest time for that water. So, he ended up in the water, right? Yeah, it was 40 yards short of clearing the water. Let me even close. Yeah, he dropped that one in pretty soft. He left his foreshad, but missed like a 5'6' putt to save par.

But why don't just lay up and then you got five sixty for birdie move on. Wait wait, what did you say? Why don't you just lay up? Be careful using those words. about trying to shape any of these shots and the play my cut and he played that uh... he played one of course i think favors a right-left ball flight that's what press people hey that's what i'm talking about taught that i thought it's young tron over there uh... in his gleeful champagne and fused joy last night compared to timer to a young

And in general, and I thought it was right, there's a ton of value on him at 80 to 1. Just because he didn't have a high finish that week, and he always these played decent at sawgrass now he can't i mean i it was i mean it's finished was really shaky that i play in the rain a lot for that he was unflammable so that rain can best of this rhythm and he was he was dominant and he's playing a weaker field this week at a

course that he played last year he finished time for fifth at this at this event last year that was a good idea that i was sitting in a bar on Sunday. A very nice bar actually. And I saw him make that put on 17 and I just was like, that was unbelievable. I can't believe that one in. I read what would you do a very nice bar. Well, I would just mean it was a very dark mahogany.

There were actually other bound books. I that uh... you know high-end whether yeah they were it was sitting very nice pool table in the back i was uh... i was uh... i was pretty good in the cradle up in the field position on my couch watching that lead the play shot by shot anything else from the player before you move on

not really i don't think rock family i don't think rock family shot at 65 and a 66 and a 71 and did not win. That's pretty impressive. Yeah, he's going to show up on around. Well, he shot a third round 80, which also really impressive. Hey, Sally, totally non-twisted by that course though. Like, A, it looked awful. E, it's like, I don't know, I think it's an ab, I think it's a disaster. I think it's a little more automated course. I think it's most automated course in four. I think, I mean, it is, what it was built for, it works.

It was built for a dramatic, crazy finish, and we get it almost every single time for this tournament. And you really can't look away until at least the guy in the leaders past 17. Like it is, with that much money on the line for that, like, like, moat unique of a shot, that is awesome. But the rest of the course, I agree, I'm half played it, it is completely underwhelming. It's a big cookie cutter. There's very little chance to be creative

or you strategy at all. It's all placement off the tee, not a lot of drivers. It's not a, it wouldn't be in my top 10 courses to play on tour. Other than that, the 17th hole, even in person is even cooler, actually, which was surprised me. It wouldn't be in my top ten courses to play on tour. When you played it, I got a good part three. What did the high school and the junior tournament? Yeah, I mean, I guess the other thing is, really, you have to really get a good feel. You know, get a good champion and get a good champion always a good leaderboard you know you can't yeah you can't fake your way right my court as I cliche saying but you really can't you know there's not very many fluke winners Craig Perks would be much you're gonna be happy Craig Perks would be standing up and disagreeing right now but it's not not a lot of fluke winners in that place but I would sell on the tournament going into last year,

and I think last year gave us the best possible for anyone in any kind of golf media ever, the best possible. Sunday you could have with Tiger and Sergio going down the stretch and Sergio falling apart. They kind of revived my interest in this tournament, and I think I'd like to share a kind of live episode as well. You tournament and i think i love this year kind of a bit of that though as well you gotta think though that you said earlier the amount of money that's on a lot of because a huge play in that too you know that that's what i'm thinking about when these guys are on seventeen it's just like that

And when it comes down to it, I'm going to take the guy with more substance than

the hope that he blinth they know gets along well with the team and rouse the team up i'd rather have a guy that can trust on the dreams that i've got to be with the reason he can feel that home so well as they played well together it wasn't just that they were you know friendly or got along great i mean fowler's twenty ten writer cup gets very overrated because he

he'd very last four holds in a single match to have the match to get a half point to keep the match the Ryder Cup alive. But that was the only half point he won over there. I mean, he got a 20-1 at the time, but... There's a cat playing the modus up. I'm not prepared to have an opinion on the big cat for the Ryder Cup. But I think he'd be a perfect guy to take over if he was you know at least someone qualified yet the more i look at woodland record this year the more i'd he doesn't have any outstanding result that no top five but we've got a lot of money on sunday it's not worried about woodland underpriced uh... his short game

I think it was Brian K suggested that as a podcast topic, talking about guys that have been in what we are terming the wilderness, which I am about guys that have had extreme success or a lot of success in some way on tour and then have completely disappeared and then have found their way back. And we got on it, I see, we got on it basically by talking about Kimer. And now, he wrote the number one in the world of cell all the way outside the top. 50, now he's obviously on his way back.

We're some other guys out there that have had similar, similar rises falls and rises back to the top? Sergio, absolutely. And we should probably preface this by saying this is kind of recent history. We didn't really grind that back. We're all real up to the young guys. I would say that I always, I feel like at the beginning of every season, John Daly comes out of the wilderness for like a couple of Thursday or Friday's, and then he goes back into his trailer wherever in Selmer, March. like choice though he's built he cares goddard always on the leaderboard like they love it you know it's like he's back you got a little bit of that

many like Jeremiah Johnson he goes back out there once the mountain it's just fodder for the plebeans yeah the problem is like with the entire twenty-twentieth people say that he's on the leaderboard and he's not really as close to the leaderboard but yeah but i just don't every year whether it's the retract schedule or early in the year so that they'll drop a sixty six or sixty eight third day Friday yeah it's like what we all go out play golf after being off for six or eight months i always like

feel like i play well for the first like round or two and then i just know style obviously yeah you're supposed great you're yeah you know could still do this. I could still do that. So I guess how daily must be thinking? Sergio is a very interesting one. I guess I don't point out even the G. I don't even know if I remember him being number two in the world in 2008. And E. Yeah, you got to go back. Is he back to the wilderness though? No, not really. Ogle V? He's close.

There's a category of guys that there's a separate list of guys that have just gone to the owners and never came back. Ian Baker finished might be the best ever example of that.
