I'm going to be the right club today.
That's better than most.
How about him?
That is better than most.
Better than most. Solly, Solly, how are you, man? I'm wonderful, ready to roll. I got a lot for tonight. T.C. T. Ron Carter, how are you?
Big, big day in the Tour de France.
Oh, is that an old Toga car?
New hat.
It's old school.
I like it.
It's the Ryan's back of the human spirit.
What are you talking about?
I'm 21 year old Slovenian.
New day, new world order.
Of course, let's let's let's time trial.
Should we start there?
Is that you guys want to go deep on that?
It was one of the most impressive things I've seen since I want to talk about the conditions of how the committee really messed up the
the tour this year. It was an interesting time. I'm just kidding. We're not talking about
these. Solly you kick us off. Uh, right. The morning zoo kicked us off yesterday. I'm
going to test the limits of what we can do in an ad read here. There is a player near the
top of the leaderboard that has a golf ball that looks a lot like this, especially like
this. Uh, you guys have heard us talk about the Callaway, uh has a golf ball that looks a lot like this, especially like this.
You guys have heard us talk about the Calaway,
the Chrome Soft Truvus.
Do you know about the USA Truvus
that you can find on CalawayGolf.com?
I challenge anyone to this, any golfers,
however good you are, however talented you are,
all skill levels, have you tried it?
Have you at least tried to hit this soccer ball?
Have you tried to hit a putt with it?
Have you tried to hit a chip?
Have you, because I thought it was dumb before I tried it.
And I'm surprised more pros aren't using it.
I'm not surprised to see similar designs
starting to pop up elsewhere.
And I am obviously a huge, huge truvas fan.
You can find them on calowagolf.com.
And I'm happy to see this kind of style of ball catching on.
I hope that, I hope that dance around it legally.
I think that, I think you're in a total safe space there.
Um,
Solid what?
You're a truest guy.
I love truest.
Absolutely.
We fight over.
No, it's great.
Yeah.
We very, very often are forget to ask which number
the other ones playing.
And it's we need more numbers outside of one.
Because we hit at the exact same length of the team.
So we're always right next to each other.
So it's super confusing.
Uh,
Solid, let me hear how should we start this?
Give me a one sentence review of today's golf.
We got a great golf tournament going on right now.
Okay, that's great.
Now, let's unpack it a little bit.
Or actually,
let's throw it over the boys for,
do you guys have one sentence
or you just want to go in?
We got a great golf tournament going on right now.
I'm saying that because that's going to get lost.
That's going to get lost in the plot.
It's not great to me.
It was so boring today.
Terrible setup.
I'll do one word.
Okay.
Coronation of the field.
Okay, I think you're looking for crowning.
No, a coronation.
Say, I guess same thing. Yeah.
Do you guys want to unpack this?
What I would love, what I would challenge from you
is that we've heard the same bullshit for two days now.
Can we get some specifics?
I thought you were on our side.
No, no, no, no, no, I'm not on your side.
We had a whole pre-meeting about this.
Specific.
I have my own takes, which I'll get to,
but I'll have a lot more like for today.
So after yesterday, you were like,
see, dude, the USDA, we had it the whole time.
We're going up the slope.
But it's difficult.
No, that's what everybody was saying.
You know, you said to be patient.
It's getting progressively more comfortable.
It's going to get progressively more comfortable.
The wind didn't blow.
Just wind, man.
But it's it's so it was so easy today.
It was like almost two strokes easier than yesterday.
But everybody's going to say, oh, well,
they did the cut yesterday and all that.
There wasn't a single score in the 80s today.
There was a 65 and the guy hit two fairways.
I mean, it's,
are you gonna follow the two fairways?
They're gonna get roasted.
Oh, no.
I'm not gonna let you do that.
Ran, man.
No.
Guys, no, I don't care.
I'll start there.
Let's start there, because that is a,
I thought you had it.
That's a defining storyline this week.
I feel like is that nobody's hit any fairways,
which I think speaks to a couple different things
and Solid,
do you want to unpack that a little bit?
Yeah.
I'm amazed that people are still citing fairways hit,
like as a stat that means anything.
Like we've seen years,
decades of correlation now that shows
that it doesn't matter if you hit the fairway or not,
being further down the fairway or not.
Being further down the fairway and close to the whole is the only thing that matters.
Further and farther, both of them.
They go so far that it stretches the limits of lexicon, wordage.
I don't have the word for it, it stretches the limit of it.
And everyone talked about wolf hitting two fairways today.
Hey, how far offline was he
do you see me the great one i went to what he was he was in the
he was in the
the first cut of you to like probably half the time he was just off that in the
primary cutting
a few more times and then the one that he he missed by my own he made both you
so like hitting it within the corridors hitting it not far offline we talked about
this all week wing foot has open front greens.
You can get on the greens from the rough,
from almost, you know,
as long as you've not completely ruined your angle,
they've taken out a lot of trees at Wingfoot
for a lot of reasons,
and it, with modern golf,
maybe that has made the course too easy
for what I think some of my associates would like to see,
but it is, it is not about hitting these fairways.
No matter how many times you hear that on TV,
they're gonna say it for another 20 years, probably before they realize that you don't have to hitting these fairways. No matter how many times you hear that on TV, they're gonna say it for another 20 years,
probably before they realize
that you don't have to hit the fairways.
And to your point, Brennan Todd,
I believe, is the leader in fairways hit?
How does he feel tonight?
That's what I was saying downstairs is,
Brennan Todd, every time they say that, should freak out.
I feel like he should, you know,
Randy, you were saying you wanna see someone freak out
this week, I feel like it should be Brennan Todd
because somebody's gonna propagate that
in the post-round presser tomorrow, just, you know, with a course like Wingfoot,
you know, obviously there's such a premium on hitting fairways. He needs to stop me.
Like, no, what the fuck? I'm doing that. I do that every week. Why don't I have 50 wins,
guys? I hit all the fairways and I make all the puts. I'm doing everything I'm supposed
to do.
I think you let, you can lead a horse to water here. I think, I think we're kind of ham
and egging this a little bit
because the part of the reason that it didn't matter
quite as much as it has in majors past
is because the greens just seem softer to me.
And I don't know, like Max has tried to correct me on that.
I'm sticking to it, man.
Like, people, these greens look way too healthy.
If your greens aren't dying
at the end of a major championship,
what are we doing here?
Thank you.
And I just don't think with fairways this narrow though,
that it would have changed anyone's strategy on it
or changed the emphasis of being in the fairway.
I think it would, I mean,
I've seen so many instances this week
where like guys are doing whatever they want,
15 yards into the rough and they're, and they rough, and it's gotten to the point where like,
there's not that many bad spots off the tee, right?
I don't know, you say that,
and there's three dudes under par,
and they haven't gotten,
they got one of the days.
I watched JT make a birdie today on six from like,
a terrible spot,
and just throwing it up in the air,
and it's like, the macro view of,
you can take micro things on as anything.
And then you can make some grimy, grimy
birdies at the end of the fron.
And he shot 77, like he got exposed.
Nobody's getting away with anything,
I think is my point.
You can't, if you drive off the plane,
it's maybe right.
Bryson's not hitting it that,
it looks bad.
They're always gonna miss the fairways with him.
When they're that narrow and you're hitting it that far,
like a dispersion rate when you hit it that far.
No, totally.
It is a accident that goes in the fairway.
As far as quote unquote, getting away with it,
he seems to be the one who maybe is the most.
He put the logic read.
Patrick Reed was getting away with it, I would say,
for 45 holes.
Didn't get away with it on the back.
But like Bryson is showing that this weird,
this is a technology thing.
It's a technology issue. You don't even have to look like you're playing
it good. It's as long as you get it far and past everything that you need to get it past.
Golfing that hard. It cuts down on all the bad shit that can go wrong. But they had an
option to put more of a premium on it and they've softened the greens. That's part of,
that's part of it. Is there any evidence that they have softened the greens? The fact that the greens are hot. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, It hasn't rained in over a week. They've got sub air. It was windy all morning.
Like the fact that they have not-
Hey dudes broke party.
They have not seemed to-
That's too many.
Yeah.
Like especially after everybody was like,
yep, they just keep amping it up each day, each day.
You guys just gotta be patient.
You guys just gotta be patient.
You said, we should, you know,
why should we trust the USJ?
I'm sure it's hell not trust them at this point.
Here is where you lose me in this
We woke up we watched some early golf Randy said in the text thread that wolf is gonna shoot 77 today because we're all watching
What's happening this morning right and seeing like oh wind
Well and admittedly I hadn't watched much go
No, when you guys were saying that I said guys Noren, Noren is taking it deep, which you need to apologize for.
I really don't.
Apparently, that's too easy.
I don't need to apologize for it.
Which one is it?
I'm saying the line is right there.
We saw it today.
We woke up, we saw, it was brutal
for those morning groups going out into that North wind.
We saw the bite that golf course had
and the numbers were going north.
When I woke up and checked,
the first time I checked the board,
there was one dude under par
and I don't know how many under over par.
I still.
And that was the wind.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The wind is dictating this and I know we've covered that, but like I do not think I think
we would think we're watching a great tournament.
If a golf course with no wind was playing impossible, there was a reason that it played so much
harder yesterday than it did yesterday.
Yeah, it's the wind.
It's not the greens weren't like that much crazier.
The paper and that crazier. It's supposed to be the exact same not win. The greens weren't like that much crazier, the pin weren't that crazier.
It's supposed to be the exact same thing tomorrow.
So can we dial up the fucking greens a little bit?
But this is where like,
I'm not talking about speed.
I think you're totally right, Randy,
in that like why should they get the benefit of the doubt?
Cause it doesn't seem like they've done a great job.
The last, I don't know, 10 years at the US Open.
And so I am with you there, but having said that,
it just seems like, man, it seems like
if they could, they would at this point.
Like if the forecast is gonna be that benign
and it has been, like I don't know.
They're so gun shy.
They're gun shy.
They don't want to.
But where my take would be, and this is not a take that I think you want to hear, but
with all the technology stuff that's going on, they have to set it up on such a fucking
fine line that if the wind does literally five miles an hour more or changes directions
or whatever, like that's when they get boned, and they're just not going to do that.
And I totally, totally, totally, totally get
where you guys are coming from.
And I'm with you in that would it have been more fun
if guys were putting off the greens all day today?
Yes, I'm so with you there, but they're not gonna do that.
Like you gotta be real here.
What?
But tomorrow, tomorrow, I think they're not gonna do that.
Trust your meteorologist tomorrow and say,
all right, we've got a max of eight mile an hour
wind out of the North
Northeast tomorrow. Hey, man, let's let's let's let's amp it up a little bit. And like I haven't
heard one guy this week say, you know what? I thought I thought that pin was bullshit or I thought
yeah, like that's the US opens very fair. Nobody's pissed and that doesn't mean they're taking it even
close to far enough. And I and with you there and the whole on the line, I'm not buying, they've been on the line.
I'm not buying it.
Yeah.
No, I don't think they're on the line.
I think they're within the tolerance, if that makes sense.
Like they're, they're at a point now where like if the wind does kick up,
they're not going to lose it.
If they got five more miles an hour today,
you'd have gotten a lot, different scene, a lot different scene.
I still don't think guys are going to bitch though,
that they would just be like, man, like the win,
the win was just, but I don't have much more like that.
I do think they could push the golf course,
but I think if you're the USGA and just suspend
your point of view for a minute here.
Sure.
And just think about like, if you're them
and you look at this leaderboard
and you have three guys under par,
three awesome players under par and exciting leaderboard,
like why the fuck would they do that?
They're not gonna do that.
Like, all right, all right.
That's fine, I don't have to like it.
You're totally right, you're totally right.
I'm just trying to wrap my head around where it's happening.
Here's something for future year, shoot.
I'll shoot down my throat then,
about carnage and blood and like just super fair.
That's all away.
Super fair.
Here's the other thing too.
But I don't kick, going back to the rough, like fair. Here's the other thing too. But I don't kick going back to the rough.
Like make a deal with the players too.
You know what guys, like we are gonna do away
with this crazy rough right off the fairway.
We're gonna graduate the hell out of it.
We're gonna make it deep in, you know,
further under the trees, farther under the trees.
But, um, caught myself there.
But we are gonna make the greens firm
and that's gonna be the biggest thing to wear.
Like seeing Patrick Reed trying to squeeze cuts
in there and stuff, like that to me is interesting.
And like I wanna see more of that from more players
where they feel like they have to attack it
from a certain angle that's different
from their regular shot shape.
And I think this, so on this note, all right, I had somebody text me today and they go,
hey, what I break 120 at Wingfoot and he's like a 15-hadi cap whatever.
I was like, yeah, you would, you know why?
You wouldn't lose any balls, okay?
So that's one.
You're not going to have, there's not been like massive numbers this week when you don't
have short grass around the game.
Yeah, it's a daily.
Yeah, he made that work.
When you don't have short grass around the greens, you don't have penalty areas and you
don't have chances for like loss balls or OB or anything that comes in play.
It's like the carnage element is limited, right? So it is still easily the hardest golf
course that we have seen in a golf tournament this year, like not even close by any stretch.
So like I don't, I, I, that's why it's like it's, if it was not living up to being golf's
toughest test, I could see where you guys are like, it's if it was not living up to being golf's toughest test,
I could see where you guys are coming from.
If we had an air and hill situation on our hands,
if even Pebble last year.
Shout out to the wind also at air.
Yeah, exactly.
Like I could see that, but we have it.
Like we have high scores.
But like we have like some good golf being played
to shoot 65.
Like all these dudes that teed it up,
like that was not a crowning for Matthew Wolf.
Like look at the names.
They shot 76.
He played some, he hit the shit out of his irons,
I give him that, the thing that,
I go back to, it was like Paul Casey,
when he was supposedly really, really tough this morning,
made four birdies in a row.
Again, we're like, he shot one under to do it.
Like we're looking right here when it's like,
and he had it, and he had it.
And he had it, like, there's no birdies out there to be had.
I don't know if anybody's saying that.
They were, like, they're like, dude,
like, this is one birdie hole and 17 hard holes.
I've seen all this stuff all over the place all week.
And then sure enough, it's like, you know,
and like, I mean shit, like Ferdy and Trico
and all those guys all week, or all day were like,
man, it's playing so tough out here.
And it's like, it's fucking not.
Like I'm watching it unfold.
Don't tell me something that's like viscerally opposed to what I'm watching it unfold. Don't don't tell me something that's like viscerally
opposed to what I'm watching.
With almost no wind as the day went on it played almost four shots over par. I would say that
plays pretty hard. That's pretty tough. Here's where I will say and where I massively sympathize
with you and this is the closest I'm going to come to to being on your side here is I do
feel like we're stuck,
I always think about the Breaking Bad episode
where they're talking about half measures.
I feel like we're stuck in the middle here right now
where it's kinda like, you have to,
if you wanted to, like I was saying to you,
if this was a PGA championship,
I feel like everybody would be like,
God, this is such a fair test.
This is just such a fair test.
They did such a good job. They nailed it. P.J.
of America nailed it. But because it's the US open, it's like either by their own hand.
P.J. of America would have moved up the T's on one of the par five's one of the days.
I mean, like, you know what, they're giving these guys a birdie look in the middle of the
round. But where I'm going with this is that probably would have been more fun to watch.
Yeah. And right now, like that would have been more, like when it's set up like this, I would rather
see more birdies.
Or, yes, they're stuck in the middle.
Or I'd rather see a lot more boaty.
You're exactly right.
I want to see guys get hit in the face.
There was a lot of getting hit in the face.
Like watch over.
Nobody shot over 80.
Read shirt shot 82 day.
No, 82 day.
Like look, I need somebody in the contention at a US open,
going and shooting eight over on the back nine today,
and that happened with Patrick Reed.
Like Justin Thomas got eviscerated by the golf course
say because he was off.
Like that's where I'm at is like,
if you, if somebody was faking it out there
and spraying it all over the place
and like completely, you know, manipulating the golf course,
maybe that is Bryson, maybe that is the point.
I still think that's more of a technology thing than an actual setup thing.
But like, no one is getting DJ getting eliminated.
Lonto shot plus one today.
Again, we're looking right here and not looking at the big picture, which, I don't know.
I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I go back to manipulators.
I go back to this Rory.
Rory was asked about this and, uh,
I go right.
Yes. He said the course, the question was the course is playing about a shot.
Easier day. Do you attribute that
more to the gentler wins or the
whole locations were more
getable? He said no. The win
more than anything else. The whole
locations today I thought were
pretty tricky. It was hard to leave
it put dead. Even if we even if you
got a putt that's uphill once it
gets past the hole it starts to go
downhill again. It's very hard to
leave putts within tap and range. I
feel like every time I hit a good putt it didn't go in. I was marking it and resetting it was at least
three or four feet. That is a great idea. I thought the pin was fine. The rib was grinding his
face off today. Yeah, and respect to that. And it was speculating to see. How many guys got eliminated
today? We have not seen that for a while from the rib. Be correct. Yeah, I was impressed.
That was awesome. So going back to my statement to start it statement to start, there's a good golf tournament going on.
I feel like we're missing the plot a little bit on that.
If we can move past that and talk about the golf tournament, but before we do, someone
would say there's greatness within this golf tournament, if you will.
I'm getting so good at this.
I feel like there's greatness at the top.
I don't know if there's greatness within.
There's some greatness.
Like at the top of the leaderboard, I feel like we're seeing true greatness.
You're not helping me out. There's also greatness. There's greatness at the top of the leaderboard, I feel like we're seeing true greatness. You're not helping me out.
All right.
There's also greatness.
There's greatness at the top of the bottle too.
There's greatness.
That's what we're gonna test it.
The Elijah Craig Smallbatch,
Kentucky Strait, bourbon, whiskey,
every bottle of their award-winning Smallbatch carries
a signature warm spice and subtle smoke flavor.
We got it on the rocks over here.
Randy's watered his down with about 99% water, I think.
As I like, as a tribute to Taurusau season two in Scotland. I was a tribute to all of the water on
the group. I knew it. I knew it. God, I was getting ready to get there. It's exceptionally smooth,
well-balanced. And whether you're watching the US open at home or maybe in the clubhouse,
if your clubhouse is allowing,
enjoy the golf with a glass of Elijah Craig,
pick up a bottle today, or order online,
and discover that greatness within or around,
whatever you see.
Discover the greatness around.
We can run and buy them to see if they want to rebrand
the next big fun with it.
But no laying up is brought to you by Elijah Craig,
Kentucky Strait, Bourbon, whiskey, Bardstown,
Kentucky, 47% alcohol by volume Elijah Craig reminds you to think wisely drink wisely and if it depending if it's a shit
Shadow more. We're gonna break out the barrel proof. I think what is the problem?
It's to the barrel proof
What what what should the winner gets to if the winners above par let's break out the 18 year
Okay
Even par better how about even par or better?
No, it's got even more.
I'll get out of here with even par.
Can we, can we spend, can we spend some time appreciating Matthew Wolf's
round of golf?
Please, 20 years old.
You start.
I believe I've stated before that I think he should be in college right now.
That is age.
He would, he, he would be the first person barely old enough to drink a lager. Craig quite literally. We
he would be the first person born in 1999 to everyone a major
fun trivia question there.
Tadeh who won the Tour de France today also 21. Could that be a
harvester 22 on Monday. Also no one born in the year 1998 has
everyone a major,
a fun little fact there.
Colin Moore, Cal, I think was the first one born in 97
to win a major, which is Mr. Moore.
So, all right.
Thinking about Wolf's round.
I'll be off guard.
That was good.
Out in 30, makes a birdie on the 18th hole,
hitting iron gap wedge, which again, I think your problem with anything
is technology or what?
We've tasted it, Mr. Jones.
So let me talk about that for a second.
I think a lot was made about Bryson.
You know, oh God, if Bryson wins,
it's gonna accelerate the equipment talk.
I think in actuality, shouldn't Matthew Wolf
winning accelerate it more so than Bryson?
I mean, Matthew Wolf is at least as much.
I'd to look it up. Matthew Wolf is six foot more so than Bryson. I mean, Matthew Wolf has much. I had to look it up.
Matthew Wolf is six foot, 165 pounds.
Essentially, like-
He's a little thicker than 165, right?
A little more on him.
Well, they need to update the-
You're only as good as the fat wickipedia, exactly.
My point is, he looks, his physique is timeless, right?
Like, how many golfers through history
have looked pretty much exactly like Matthew Wolf.
And he's got like a pulmorphous kind of, you know?
What I'm saying is I think our focus is on the wrong person.
I think I think what Matthew Wolf is doing should accelerate this equipment debate.
See, I think though, Wolf is the product of the evolution of like, hey, dude, I have learned
the game in only this era.
And Bryson, Bryson has just said like,
no, no, what?
You know what?
I've kind of, you know, I've kind of grew up mixed
in this era of distance.
I'm just gonna do it in six months
and become the longest.
That should be alarm bells.
Like you should not be able to go from this to this.
I'm fine with Wolf's solution.
But Bryson's a big dude.
He's put on tremendous amount of weight.
He's tall too.
But I think six, one, two, two.
I mean, I think if you're gonna ring that bell,
I mean, I think you'd look at Ricky and Rory and...
Sure.
...steeply nebish guys who hit it out there with Wolf.
Yeah, but I think Wolf plays a more of a brute.
Well, what I was gonna say is, like, I think you're totally right, Sally.
I agree with you.
Oh, and 100% in that. I'm not gonna say that Wolf built his swing specifically
to compete in the wing foot rough,
but the fact that he just hits so steep on it
and all of these things, that seems like a pretty winning
recipe for modern day golf.
Bones, yeah.
Bones at one point today, he said, parents out there,
I'm just gonna tell you, if you have young kids,
I have one piece of advice
for you, swing speed.
Just make sure your kid swings it as fast as possible.
That's the only thing that matters.
Like how fucking depressing is that?
Exactly.
Shame on the USG.
Unsubscribe.
160 yard gap wedge out of the rough
at wing foot of a US open.
Right, like shut it all down.
I don't know if I'm't need to find a round.
It could be the altitude.
But to this point, I, you know, Wolf is not just like
bludging the course off the tee.
He is, I think leading the field in stroke scheme approach.
No, he's, he's fourth in stroke scheme approach.
He's across the board.
He's gaining four shots around the green.
He's gaining shots on the green.
He is, it's a very complete performance. And he's not good. He's a good putter the green. He's gaining shots on the green. It's a very complete performance.
And he's not good.
He's a good putter.
And that's what, you know, his chipping
used to be a big time weakness.
And the fact that he's gaining,
he's second to field stroke scheme around the green.
That's enormous.
Question would be, can that last?
But I just, I don't want it to get lost
as to how surprising one that I would not tab him
for PGH Championship in this performance. And we're witnessing something I would not tab him for P.J. Championship and this performance.
And we're witnessing something pretty damn cool.
Question for you.
Well, guys at Oklahoma State.
Is there a chipping problem in Oklahoma state?
Hunter Mayhan,
Harvard, Wolf has struggled with it, Ricky has struggled with it at certain times in his career, I think.
Has he?
I don't know.
We chipped in the water that one time at Phoenix.
Exactly.
So we go for that.
Somebody, you had something like that.
I'm gonna make it.
I'm gonna make it.
If I may, if someone correctly pointed out,
we can't leave the RNA out of this equipment discussion.
Yeah, sure.
There's blood on their hands too.
She came on everybody.
I was just gonna ask you, say, why you wouldn't expect
these performances from Wolf.
I, he hasn't been very consistent on the PGA tour.
I mean, he won he won obviously last year, but has not, you know, it's not been a week-to-week
thing.
Like I can rely on that guy.
I feel like Victor Hovland is a guy you can rely on.
He is top 30 a lot.
He's not a lot of great finishes.
He had the win.
He's 20, 22 or 23, I think.
And Wolf has not been just consistent week to week.
And I just felt like he had more to learn about, you know, how been just consistent week to week. And I just felt like he had more
to learn about, you know, how to be that week to week. And I feel like these major championship
venues, even if they're not as set up as tough as you would like them to be like there, it
is so much harder to hide out here than it is on a normal PGA tour week to week. And I
just would not have thought this game would have translated this well. And I'm very pleasantly
surprised. But I mean, I do want wanna give a shout out to Detroit Golf Club
because he got, you know, he cited that today.
He said he got blown out to see on Sunday there.
Right.
Oh, in the summer.
I mean, seriously, that feels like a light
has gone off for Wolf
because that was the big thing we were talking about.
You know, just in the context of burger
winning a colonial and kind of rejuvening in his career
and everything, and I was like, all right,
what when is Wolf gonna start, you know,
like really even just banking a few more top 10s.
And my question going into tomorrow is he has in a way,
I'm gonna use the word fake it for three days
in that he has been just like vibing,
like he's just having fun, there's no one watching it.
I mean, there's some cameras out there,
but he's kind of, I feel like he's going back and forth
as Caddy, like, remember that wedge?
I hit two wells ago, remember how good that was.
Like he's trying to treat it very much,
like a normal-ish round of golf.
And like tomorrow, like there's no avoiding tomorrow.
You're in the last group.
Like, can you, can you fake that?
Can you drum that energy up and just like treat it
like a normal round of golf?
I don't know.
We're going to find that out.
That's what's going to be interesting.
That's what's got him here.
That's my big question going in tomorrow.
How do I know how you do that?
What are you cheering about over there?
Lauren.
Lauren Kofflin or...
I made the cut.
Young hitter just birdied 16 to get within the cut line.
I think...
Go ahead.
Without fans, do we need to place an asterisk?
Has brought this up with more power.
I think if I think of Reed or De Shambot were to win,
then we would need to because there's no way.
Because they're going to be getting heckled like crazy.
Yeah, those big bad New Yorkers, man.
I think I've voted.
I can't.
I can't imagine how much the fans would be behindfe tomorrow. Doesn't seem like a massive fan favorite.
Over Bryson probably.
Bryson Louis Hadecki, Zander, Harris English.
It would be like to be like Wolfe.
New Yorkers are not riding for any of those kinds of chairs.
Exactly.
Except Wolfe.
I feel like at least like social media people are struggling to get behind Wolfe a little
bit.
Like he just chatterbox, literally mature,
it's the message I see.
I don't understand the whole,
I know like, I didn't really watch
the whole seminal thing all the way through.
Like was he that bad or that like,
because everything I've seen of him and everything,
I really, really like the kid.
And he seems like, he seems like a happy,
like a great human.
Yeah, it just seems like a guy that's full of life.
I love what he's on the screen. I don it just seems like a guy that's full of life.
I love what he's on the screen.
I don't know where all this chatterbox stuff is coming from.
I think people, much like ourselves,
just like to bitch about everything.
So it's, yeah, let's, I think we skip past that.
Is it, all right, can I call him Matt?
Or is it Matthew?
His friends call him Matt.
Okay, I know, I can't fucking do.
I remember when Mike, like Mike Vic was the big thing
in Atlanta and it was like, it was Michael Vic and everybody started calling Mike Vic
kind of a kind of a cam and Cameron champ situation. And then his mom was like no I
didn't name him Mike his name is Michael y'all. It's kind of like a Mike Lorenzo
Vera. Yeah exactly right shout out to episode whatever that was. Can we talk about
the big golfer? Yeah well before we before we do, and this is a quick
transition. I think that what you were saying about Wolf makes a lot of sense in that I
think he goes against this again, very sports talk radio stuff, but I think you almost
need to fight your preconceived notions to actually think critically about what golf
courses he's going to play well on, if that makes sense. Because I think when you watch him swing, it's like, oh god, dude, like, you know, I'm
trying to think of your most prototypical bombing gouge course on the PJ tour.
Like Sony, maybe or something like that.
Houston, like, yeah, you got it.
That was a long, good picture.
But I think like when you watch him swing, it's like, oh god, he's just gonna blow it everywhere
and wedge it up close.
And this is bullshit.
It's not real golf and blah, blah, blah, blah.
And then we really actually think about what wing foot demands and all of these things.
It's when we get back to like, you know, check it out.
Nobody's hitting fairways in my prior player.
This is this is exactly like that's what surprise should win here.
Has surprised me the most is I felt like he was coming out.
And I don't I never didn't watch him in college.
I don't have anything to support this, but like I felt like he, the, the, what goes into
distance control in the PGA tour is very different than what goes in almost any other level.
And thought he had a lot to learn on that in terms of, you know, cutting into certain
pins, drawing into certain pins, whatnot.
And that he's blown through the last couple of months, which has been, what's been most
impressive.
I'll say this, if he was truly blessed with lies in the rough today, it's like that's not going
to continue. I don't think for 18 holds tomorrow. I think he admitted himself like, yeah, I just
got a lot of good lies in the rough. Yeah. I mean, Randy, he's like, you guys share a coach.
I know. Which, if you've been in contact with your coach to discuss any game plan for tomorrow,
no, but I should. Yeah, his lies were, his lies were sick.
His lies were, I can say.
But, but I guess,
I guess, to your point, if he plays really well here, like where can't he play well.
Oh, I'm with you there.
Yeah, I'm totally with that.
That's what just is kind of a brison situation as well.
I know.
So what's the deal?
It's maybe the transition to physical consistency goes then.
When he's, when he's not on, is it the iron plate that's going
or can he just knock it off,
like is he just hitting off the planet off the tee?
Or I can't say.
It's just a lot of things that have to go right
in that swing.
I gotta or I think a lot of it's like,
it's timing based.
No, I just think a lot of it's like he's 21
and he's never played the PJ tour before for a full year
and he's at such a cliche, but I think it's so true, right?
He's figuring out how to play practice rounds and how to travel.
And who is Caddy?
And he's changed Caddy's a bunch.
And like, I feel like he's just finally kind of getting comfortable, right?
I mean, we saw him play well in the playoffs and saw like, I feel like he's,
he's been on a nice, a little bit more of a consistent streak now, at least since the PGA.
His iron play is very pedestrian on PGA tour stats.
He's 91st, but he's 12th and stroke scene off the tee.
So he drives it really well, doesn't approach it great,
doesn't chip it great, and puts just a little bit
of the normal, but from almost anyone,
I feel like I've talked to, they're like,
no, no, you don't, like he's a very good putter.
He just hasn't shown it yet, he hasn't flashed it yet.
So.
And it seems like maybe, all right, maybe the,
the iron play is super, super streaky and inconsistent,
but when he's on, like the ceiling is very high.
So, yeah, can we talk about the big goalies?
I really want to.
Well, you know what,
in fact, you don't want to talk.
Come on, come on, pick one bit.
Please, please, please.
Can I pick just one bit?
And I think this is important going forward.
You said he drives it well,
and I would like to put myself on the record saying I wouldn't use that phrasing. I think he just drives it far
From a Stroke's game perspective. I know I wouldn't want to I don't call it driving it well
He just hits it far because I haven't seen anything this week. That's like oh my god. That is amazing driving
No, he just hits it far and Bryson drives it well
He can.
No, no, no.
Rory drives it well.
Yeah.
I think we can agree on that.
And that's kind of, I guess, my larger beef one thing
we've agreed on to drive it well.
Rory drives it well.
Mm-hmm.
That's interesting.
I mean, I'd have to get in the lab with my sister.
It's just like what's a priority?
What's valued?
Yeah, I would say if I was being harsh on you, I would say that's an antiquated look at how It's just like what's a priority? What's valued these days?
I would say if I was being harsh on you,
I would say that's an antiquated look at how
what the benefit of driving it.
Well, sure.
And everything's in the distance, great.
But I don't know.
Or it's just saying that the value is just
literally squinting it.
Yeah, it's literally just squinting as hard as you can.
Cringrat, you hit it further.
Again, shame on the USGA.
And the Arnet.
Yeah.
Can I shout out?
I've done this a hundred times on the podcast before,
but one of my favorite things I've heard in golf was
Jeff Shackford talking about how, if people,
because this is the USGA and maybe not the USJ,
but the PGA tour for sure, their whole thing is always kinda,
how people love, they love, chicks dig the long ball, man.
Like they love seeing them hit it far.
And Shackford, his comment was,
like is that why you, you know,
everybody builds the, the grain stands way back on the T.
So everybody can watch him hit it far.
Do they build it on the green
so they can watch the approach.
I just thought that was a really good way to put it.
But what's more exciting, a driver in a wedge
or like really good iron play.
Yeah, I'm not a little busking on the big golfer here.
I do think an interesting thing is,
there's so much
long grass around the greens at Wingfoot.
If guys are putting it off the greens,
you're not going to totally embarrass them
because it's going to stop right then and there
versus a place like Pinehurst.
How do we get into putting off the greens?
Because like, grandstands and your greens and stuff.
Like the most fascinating thing to me,
or like, that was why Roel Melbourne was so good. That's why I'm so excited for LA Country Club in 2023 for the US Open.
Might be the next year. When guys have the ball on the ground and they're not
like that's the one time they're not in control or golf ball. That's what made Chinatown
a cock more interestingly and wink foot in my mind is that that ball could bound away. Like wink foot
it's not going far away. Exactly. I think to your point, you know, I think itatuck more interestingly in Winxford in my mind is that that ball could bound away. Like Winxford, it's not going far away.
Exactly.
I think to your point, you know,
I think it was our boy Albert Einstein
who said everything's relative, right?
And so, yeah, I just think there's so many parallels
with baseball, what baseball is going through now
and the whole like chick's dig the long ball, dude.
Well, when everybody's like a slap hitter
and the power hitting is relatively rare
and an absolute like skill in that era.
Yes, we're gonna focus on it.
But when you shift too far into
what everybody just hits it far,
then it's like, okay, well, we wanna see
the differentiating skill set.
And I think that's where golf's headed where it's like,
if everybody hits a 350 and nobody has to curve the ball
or really show any other skill,
then nobody digs the long story.
Randy, I was here with that.
Cheers, bro.
I would say that.
You know, like Lonto's like your typical,
he's like, he's like,
he's like, he's like,
he's like, he's Davis or something.
Back to Lonto.
Yeah, he's batting like, you know, 205 with like 51 fingers.
Guys, we're talking about the big golfer,
whether you like it or not, no more filibus drink.
But having one on the putt, number one, he figured it out, he had some broken governors, man, 51 dingers guys were stop we're talking about the big golfer whether you like it on no more fill up a put
Number one. Yes, he figured it out. He had some broken governors man You heard him talk about it after the government governor's all fuck
The put almost didn't get halfway there. It was a it was a truly horrendous put truly horrendous put not
Honestly, it was a horrendous wedge. Yeah, that was the best drive of the week
It's a number one to start the day, you had like 120
and yanked to like 40 feet, 50 feet and got,
it's put halfway there.
Does anybody struggle better than Bryson currently does?
That would not look good, no.
That did not look like an even par round.
He bogey the last shoot even par.
That was unreal.
I don't know how, again, it's just bypassing everything
with huge ass drives off the tee.
But like holy shit. Again, we's just bypassing everything with huge ass drives off the tee and but like holy shit.
Again, we've talked about this in the previous nights, you know, T4 at the PGA and now final group of the US Open, the shit is working and
I don't know. It'd be would do like spotting two shots. Are you?
Is it even money? Bryson versus Wolf?
I think so. I wonder what are the odds up yet?
Well, I have those up.
Data golf's got Matt Wolf at 51.2% to win and Bryson at 25.3%.
So basically 75% of those that the winners coming out of that last group.
What's the last?
What's the last?
I don't want to have shout out.
Matt Wolf improved his chances of winning from 2.0% going into today.
To 51.2.
He gained 49.2% with the 65.
Which I hate, I hate again to be sports talk radio guy,
but like two shot lead at Wing Food is not the same
as a two shot lead at Detroit or.
Two shot lead is nothing.
Any other place is like, it's nothing.
He will make a double somewhere tomorrow. Do on the odds. Yes
courtesy of our friends at draft King's course
Wolf is plus 150 to win and Bryson's plus 225
What's worry and then that's about the same as day off Sanders third best at plus
1000 Rory's we have not
1400 not talked enough about Xander just like they don't on television.
I've been talking about Harris English or Hadecki yet either.
Lastly, to wrap up like the lack of enthusiasm, maybe I truly think you cannot ignore the lack of
fans and what that does. Except for Rick Patino.
Except for Rick Patino. When they go to that one stretch of the course and the crowd cheers from the fourth
green or whatever that's like one of the highlights of the day like that is I'm ready to like quadruple
down on this and that we are it is so hard to get super amp for a golf tournament when there's no
people on the ground cheering. I really really really really want to disagree with that take but I
can't I can't totally disagree with that. Of all tournaments, the US Open.
I know.
I know, and that needs fans.
I want to say, until we get done bothering me much,
but you might be right this week.
All right, I'll push my luck on this one.
Are you ready to get on board with piping and crowd noise?
Sure.
Have you watched baseball with it?
I was gonna say, I've watched, I think it works really well.
If you pipe in the crowd noise, do you pipe in the blah,
but booey guy?
Hmm, very interesting.
I'm gonna say no.
Or the a corrido guy at Riviera.
I think that with the one that plays how I'll push back,
and this might be a dumb take,
but I'll push back on Augusta.
I think she'll be dead silent.
I think it's gonna be sick.
I think ratchet up the tension of Augusta.
No, no, no like no noise whatsoever,
except for the natural sounds.
The problem is Faldos gonna be talking
all the fucking times.
That's a deeply relevant thing.
That's depressing.
Like the silence is great.
Yes.
If Faldos not talking over the silence.
All right, who else we wanna talk about?
Zander, I don't have that much to say
because we didn't see that much of it.
I know.
I just don't really, really good.
I don't get why he gets ignored to this extent.
I mean, I don't know.
I know it's like-
It might be a chicken and egg thing
where it's like he doesn't do much for me
and maybe because they just haven't showed him much
but I'm struggling to, I don't know.
My only entry point is his dad.
That's, you know, I tweeted that there
in the tour championship.
I thought his dad was gonna pull him off the course today.
Because it was a disgrace.
It was too easy.
His dad famously didn't let him play par three courses
because he thought it was a joke.
That doesn't really run with Randy Z.
I'm ready for him to win one of these
so we don't have to do this.
Why is why are they not paying attention to seeing it?
So I was gonna save this, but as far as who do you want
to win tomorrow?
I'm gonna go back to the big golfer just because,
like if we're, if we're, you know,
if Bryson and Matt Wolf are sitting right there,
and it's like, who do I wanna like have a beer with
after they want a major?
Of course, of course it's Matt Wolf.
Seeing as I'm not doing either of those things,
like golf will be in such a better place
if Bryson is a major champion than Matt Wolf.
Matt Wolf has plenty of time to win majors.
It's gonna happen summed up for content purposes, Bryce.
Yes.
And just the sense that it'll accelerate
whatever.
And technology.
Yes.
If Bryce and goes out and wins four majors
in the next three, four years
with this crazy bulk of strategy,
I think that's our best way forward
to actually doing something on the technology front.
I think Xander next year,
the, we got a stinky, stinky,
stinky major slate at Kiowa, Tori, and George.
And like, kind of gust of.
Yeah, and like, I don't know.
Yeah, but it's in the spring.
I feel like Xander's just go ahead
and pencil them in at Tori.
Yeah, that seems like.
Or Ron, it's gonna be like Xander versus Ron at Tori. Yeah. Louis, I a big deal. Or Ron, it seems like Xander versus the Rom at Tori.
Yeah.
Louis, I mean, yeah, I don't know.
I don't know.
I know box please.
I've got no take other than he's probably
going to be runner up tomorrow.
Louis should recuse himself.
So like, I got so visibly upset every time they put Louis
on the screen because it's like, man, it's just,
seen this movie before, man, I saw this episode already.
It's just not going to happen. I didn I saw this episode already. Just not gonna happen.
I didn't mean to cut you off.
What did you guys say?
No, I just was gonna ask how many times
on Saturday night of a major have we sat here
and tried to talk ourselves into Rory making a comeback?
I'm ready to give my heart broke.
I Rory tomorrow.
Does this feel different?
Yeah, no, no.
Rory showed us something today.
He grinded today, can he grind two days in a row?
Not so sure.
He's trying to peak for the,
he's trying to peak for the pains of alley cup week. I'm going to Rory if you're
listening, I might bring a book or two for you. I was going to say before you
even said that I'm rooting for Rory. Rory or Randy. You've never met Rory
before. Never. Randy's going to meet Rory next week.
Fingers. We'll see. Fingers crossed. Hopefully. Of course.
Yeah. He's ready for you. He's what I mean, he's what he's six. He's ready for you.
I mean, he's what he's six, he's six back.
What?
How many how many players are between solo seven six players six players between him and
Wolf? You're going to be so much taller than him.
If he shoots, what does he have to shoot?
Well, I guess it's hard to say because what is the course going to be hard?
Is it I think it's going to look a lot like it did today.
I think probably I know that's not what you want to hear, but I think that's what it's going to be.
So I'm not sure if anybody's going to he's going to have a lot like it did today. I think probably. I know that's not what you want to hear, but I think that's what it's going to be. So I'm not sure if anybody's going to, he's going to have to get ahead of Bryson.
I say Bryson's ceiling at like 71 tomorrow.
Does your big numbers are out there?
It's definitely not the ceiling, but for the big golfer.
Yeah, no.
I can't be sure.
I can't be sure.
He can completely fall apart, but man, his floor looks pretty high.
It's part 69.
12 is still like he couldn't get to 12 today.
Yeah, but you have the short part four on the front.
That's true.
Yeah, that's a part four though.
I mean, that's where the pin was,
it looked, I may be speaking on my ass,
but that seemed like the easiest pin today.
We just kind of drive it in that left rough
and ship it on and make three.
But I feel like they can have a much harder pin there tomorrow.
And it's a pretty true part four.
So unless you hit a great drive.
So where do they put it tomorrow, like front left?
Like front left.
Probably front left.
I think it's probably gonna be some fireworks for that pin.
I think that's, I don't think they're gonna necessarily
steer into super hard for tomorrow.
I don't think so either.
And that's what I was gonna ask is,
I'm not suggesting what you're doing as a stick.
I'm not belittling what you're doing at all.
But for the purposes of entertainment tomorrow,
would it not be more entertaining
if guys are making some birdies
and being able to make a move?
Yeah, I mean, at this point,
I don't know.
I'll take your birdies.
Yeah, it's like you've kind of,
like everybody was like,
oh, it's gonna be such a tough tournament
after round one.
It's like, guys, we're right back where we started
after Thursday night.
Like I'm not sensing an evolution here.
Sort of.
One third as many guys were under par.
I guess there are half as many players on the course,
but I mean, yeah, it's almost four shots over par.
And that's where I'm at is like,
now I'm very much coming to terms with this.
And like, I think what you guys are after is unrealistic.
It's totally unrealistic.
So at this point in the tournament,
like in this, that's why we're so pissed on Thursday night.
This is where you like break up with the girl right? We just want different things you guys right
That's not that's it. You've hitched your wagon to an unwinnable battle and that's but we didn't think it wasn't on like
But I think that's on you. Oh, but I think if they if they made shit so so you're being too idealist
I know what you're saying but it's guys back in it like at like plus one one, plus two, plus two. Somebody can hang on for dear life.
I think that's a lot more,
that's a lot more invigorating to me than like,
I like, if it's relatively easy,
Wolf, D-Shambo, Louie, Hideki, Zander, and Harris,
and maybe Rory are the only ones in it and they're,
honestly, like based on what you just said,
I would say that was what today was.
They made it, it was difficult today, whether you believe so or not, that the guy at even
Wolf was in it and went out and shot an incredible round of golf and took the lead.
Yeah.
Like if that was, if this was Sunday, we'd have been breaking as like one of the great rounds
in the US, okay.
Okay.
And history and yeah, so I think this setup is providing for a great golf tournament.
Is it as hard as you guys would have wanted it? Of course not, we've established that, I think this setup is providing for a great golf tournament. Is it as hard as you guys would have wanted it?
Of course not, we've established that, I think.
But like, at a certain point, it becomes a golf tournament
and not just like a shit show.
If you're rooting, if you truly will only watch it for the
shit show, then you're not gonna get it.
That's the idea, you're not gonna get it.
But yeah, and I don't think of it as a shit show necessarily.
It is the toughest.
It's a different test.
But you wanted to say, they brand it as the toughest test.
It is like currently the toughest test
that we've seen in golf this year.
Honestly.
I don't give a difference.
I think the final round at Bay Hill
was tougher this year.
Yeah, because the wind's wind.
I know that.
The wind, but it doesn't matter why.
It's that was the toughest.
But it does when there's nothing,
there's no other levers to pull.
Like if, if,
No, no, but I don't know that they can make it
that much more firm. Like maybe they can and maybe they can put
some ridiculous pins. But that's a fundamental disagreement. I think TC and I are saying they,
they, they could have gotten more to an edge with the firmness and these greens. And I got
bad news. This, this today's round was more over par than the final round of Bay Hill.
Well, first of all, Bay hill, you got a par 72.
I know it's relative to par,
but you still have a par 72.
That's more birdy opportunities.
Sure, that's true.
Sure.
And, you know, I don't know, I just not in.
Probably about the same.
Yeah, and you got the PGA tour setting up bay hill
and the conditions were just really fucking hard.
I don't know, my guys.
I think if I was writing my thesis right now,
it would be technology has made it so that the only thing
that can dictate hardness is conditions.
It just blows my mind that it's not even like
25 mile per hour wins we're talking about.
It's like, what are we talking about?
Like seven, eight mile per hour wins.
That's the line.
I like a tree lined.
It sucks.
Inling golf golf course.
What are we gonna do in 2022 when the British Open goes to,
it's over, we've lost it.
We've lost it.
Like we are fucked.
I mean, they shot 19 under the last time there.
Yeah, or something like that.
Tiger shot.
Like, and it's gonna be even more ridiculous.
Oh, it's more ridiculous.
It's totally messed up.
That's why if they don't try to lose the greens this week,
then it's a failure. It's a complete if you don't try a
Relation of trying and that's where it's like like we gave it a try babe like I wish you luck the rest of the of your
Got around but we're just not we're just at it. We're truly at an impasse right now
So bad for the members
So nobody's talking about the man and a rabbit and rabbit oh that who is gonna I'm not going to get any sleep. You know what I am? Are you going to hold him to that? I hate to do this, but I will happily accept his resignation. Guys, we got breaking news.
Bryson is on the range with a flood light right now at Wingfoot.
Hell yeah.
He's trying to find those governor of care.
The governor of care.
He's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's, he's, he's trying to, he's trying
to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's
trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to
get him to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying
to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's
trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's
trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's
trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's
trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's
trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's
trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he's trying to, he Guys, we got breaking news. Bryson is on the range with a flood light right now at Wingfoot. Hell yeah. This is a tweet from Ryan.
He's trying to find those governor of hair the guy
on the air.
He's trying to, he's thirsty and he's looking
for something to quench it.
And he was like, oh, how tall Lee did this at Harding Park?
You know what, I'm gonna do it now.
How tall Lee now in the field this week?
That was a stunning revelation for us.
It could be related to the whole WeChat TikTok thing.
Possibly, I didn't think about that.
Also, Noren got in the field by a complete crowning, by the way.
It was going way down the list on the qualification.
I don't think we made it as big of a deal about this yesterday as we should have.
It's whole pace of play thing.
The pace of play.
No, you spoke your mind on that.
If I may, you guys, you covered that.
We can't make it too hard because you're in a condition.
Oh, and then there's only so much day one.
Yes, you did that quickly went away.
They played him like just over four hours today.
It was kind of crazy, right?
It's like 415, which is what about the Dead Sea?
That's true.
The Dead Sea, like God, T.C.
Who else? Hadecki?
Does anybody think Hadecki's gonna win?
No.
He can't play.
No, his only chance was they had to make it a circus
on the green.
Randy had a great point earlier.
Talk about Lucas Glover and.
I said I was gutted for Lucas Glover.
Lucas and Webb were gonna shoot 70, 71 today.
No matter what.
No matter what.
And their only hope was like this.
And they were gonna do two different ways.
Exactly. The only hope was the field average to be like 75 and a half and it would have vaulted them into like the top six top five
And they didn't get it. I feel very badly for those two gentlemen gentlemen
I had a game we'd be remiss if we didn't mention ZJs T8 after shooting 68 today
And also the shalongs won under 69
ZJs got an outside look to get three quarters
of the way to the crew.
That's the way.
Oh, but he wants to talk about that.
On some heavyweight tracks.
If he's a winner at Wingfoot Augusta in St. Andrews,
that's T.C., you can't even have to answer
for something.
You can't ignore that.
I don't acknowledge the St. Andrews.
If Zach Johnson wins tomorrow,
you need to drink Spike Mark stuff.
You need to drink a whole bottle of logic
for the podcast.
That would be good.
I will do that.
You know what, they sent us some of those.
You heard the airline bottle, so I'll drink a whole bottle of that.
You need to drink at least 14 of those little mini ones.
Sorry, you ready to apologize for Norton?
Absolutely.
You're gonna take?
Absolutely not.
He's a top 10 player in the world, and he's not even in the top 10.
Like, I feel like, I feel like there's some questions you guys have to answer on that.
I feel like Rafa hung in at least a little bit.
I feel like Rafa is who we thought he was.
He was not going to win.
Nobody likes Rafa more than me.
Seems like a very cool guy.
Would love to hang.
Very legal, very cool.
But, you know, I thought it was interesting the whole trophy hunter conversation
where they were like, you know, some of these guys are playing for cash, but some of them are trophy hunters and I think he was implying
Rafa's a playing for cash. It's like no, I think he plays in all the biggest events
He just doesn't have any trophies. I think I think Rafa might be playing for panties
You might be playing the most dangerous game the last guy I would trust to play to frame a European's career would be Paul A's
Yeah, that's fair.
He said Moanari's putt on the 18th green of Behill
is the biggest putt of his life.
That's true.
Yeah.
So nervous you can't spit.
Many people upset them.
Hovelin 71, 71, 70.
Very quietly.
Yeah.
Very quietly just means like they have abandoned
and not shown properly in coverage.
But I need to ask a question.
Harris English, I feel like we saw him flushing it.
At first, Aasinger pointed it out vigorously.
He said, he said, he was,
God, Harris English.
Oh, he flushed it.
He flushed it.
He is flushing the ball.
And he is flushing the ball.
And then I feel like he wasn't flushing it.
And then I felt like he was flushing it at the end.
So overall, I'd say net, we're certainly,
we've netted out and I can assure you
Harris English is flushing the ball.
You know what he did wrong?
He had nine fairways today.
Really?
What are you doing, man?
There's no birdies in those fairways.
Well, and that is TC where I will find some common ground
with you where it's, you know, I was kind of,
I was freaking out a little bit because Randy was like,
you know, they should just make it, no fairways.
Like just literally make it with no fairway.
I was like, that's like pretty close to what they're doing
when they're 20 yards wide, like nobody's hitting fairways
anyways, trying to stuitly point it out, like, no, check it out.
Some guys are hitting fairways and they are not rewarded at all.
It's a green zone firm.
Oh, and the ball, I think.
And the ball.
But the greens aren't firm.
Yeah, it's like, man, if I think that there's this perception
and maybe this is the kind
of bullet point to finish it, but I think there is this perception of the US open and the
US open at Wingfoot specifically, you've got to hit the fairway.
It's like, dog, there's some stuff that's got to change if that's going to be the case.
And if that's the identity that you want to be the case, I'm all for that, but that's
just not real right now.
It's jarring to me that it gets, still gets presented
on television like this.
I mean, how, how long have we seen this?
I mean, it's the same thing as us.
It's stunning.
So, oh my god, he's, he's hitting a pitching ledge
from, you know, we are watching golf every week.
They hit it really far.
They hit their irons far.
They hit it further than the guys in the boot hit their irons.
And it doesn't matter how straight you hit it to be
fair that we've never seen it to this extent i don't think but they're still
watching it every week or at least i hope they are but like us open specifically
like what was the graphic golf channel just put up before we came up here was
like wolf the the third-round leader in us opens wolf is it eight less than than
the guy who had hit the least amount of fairways ever I wronged leading the US
I wrong with Jim Fierrick. Yeah, guys. I can't remember the last time I hit less than 12 fairways and around let alone
Strange time and golf got some more stuff to cover. What is what is justine say to Patrick tonight?
Conversation, you know, we were talking about the whole faders eat filets thing.
He seemed very determined to show that he could hit the cut.
It's a little Peter Luger.
I don't know.
I don't think he is.
Not after 78, 78.
But he hit all those fades.
It's a hooker seat hamburger.
It's a little.
I just, yeah, I don't know, man.
I don't think, not good stuff from Pat Reed.
I don't know that we really talked about it.
And I don't, was that just like him getting away with it
for a long time, scrambling his balls off?
We did say this last night.
Our predictions have not necessarily been ideal,
but we said like, he's getting away with it right now.
He's putting his ass off and that usually
doesn't last four rounds.
And the do that was like the most complete,
as of last night, we were highlighting was Bryson, and it doesn't look pretty, but he was still very complete through three rounds. And I was hit three fairways. And the do that was like the most complete as of last night we were highlighting was Bryson and it doesn't look pretty but he was still very complete through
three rounds. The biggest thing for Reed was he hit nine greens and he had 31 puts. He had like 25
each that they get it the two days before. We got to talk about Justin Thomas in my opinion.
Oh for sure. I extremely disappointing around from him today, in my view.
At simultaneously the most disappointing round of the week,
and also like, yeah, you pressure saw that coming.
He was not driving.
No, he was not driving.
No, no, but you can't say that.
What does that mean anymore?
There's a difference between driving it off the planet
and not hitting fairways.
So the one he hit on two is like,
sure, he doesn't have it.
There's a big, big difference.
Wolf was not, he's not snaphoking it all week.
JT sounded defeated in the post round interview
after Friday.
I mean, did you see his thoughts?
T-shirts on Friday, he had the one that was so far left
and then he finished on whatever whole it was yesterday
and just like mockingly pointed as it was off the planet right.
Let's go on both ways.
It was, that is not the, again, I go back to Matt Wolf is not driving it poorly just because
it's not ending in the fairway.
It does not mean he's driving it poorly.
He's within the corridors.
Yes.
JT is now within the corridors.
And he's mostly missing on the rights, the proper side of the fairway.
Yes.
And there's a lot of that.
I thought Pat Reid did a lot of that today too where it's like, okay, he fuckers.
You want to put the pin way on the right-hand side.
Like, I'm gonna put it in the left rough.
I'll put it in the left rough.
I'm gonna make sure I crown by the way.
I saw that it was a couple times too.
But that's, I think, part of the game plan, right?
At least in a setup like this, where you're saying,
it's like, cool, I'll put it on the side of the fairway,
where I, or the side of the rough, I should say,
where I can run it up.
And I think he did that for a couple days.
And it just kind of caught up with him. JT was not doing that. He was not missing where he was run it up. And I think he did that for a couple days. And yeah, just kind of caught up with him.
JT was not doing that.
He was not missing where he was trying to miss.
He's in the RLX group tomorrow with Billy Hill.
I was.
I wasn't feeling JT coming into this week,
but I was feeling Ram and DJ.
And if we're gonna highlight their rounds at this point,
then we need to, or if we're gonna highlight JT's,
we need to, like DJ and Ram,
never been more disappointed in DJ.
I fell for it this time. I, I fell for it. I thought it was like, we need to. Sure. Like DJ and ROM. Never been more disappointed in DJ. I fell for it this time.
I fell for it.
I thought it was like, all right dude, yeah, this is,
this means something this time.
You got roared, I got.
So go go back to the A's and you're quote,
you got the, you know, trophy hunter versus cash hunter.
So nervous, you can't spit.
You're so nervous, you can't spit.
No, the trophy hunter versus cash hunter.
Like I feel like versus is big buck hunter.
DJ's got a lot of trophies.
They may not be major trophies or whatever,
but I don't think DJ gets a shit about the trophies.
DJ cares about the money.
And he might check it out.
He might have the most trophies and cash.
I think he's got the most of us.
But if I could help, I think he went deep.
I think DJ, like from being somewhat hurt
or whatever was wrong with him right before the playoffs started
to going on that run that he went on.
Like some work went in and like he's gotta be,
he, no, no, no, I'm not saying anything like that.
I'm saying like, like really the opposite of like,
yo dude, like you, like you worked your ass off and you practiced
and you worked in your game and like,
like you gotta be a little drained at this point, right?
Yeah, yeah, that's,
if I'm could help A singer about his point,
I think he was trying to say and very horribly of,
like all right we're focused on who's gonna win
this tournament, but there's a whole hell
of a lot of cash out for grass.
There's like a game within a game.
Yeah, so there's a lot of positioning going on.
It definitely framed us like, Rafa's not here to win, he's here to make a play. Which I lot of cash out for grabs. Yeah, there's a lot of positioning going on. It definitely framed us like,
Rafa's not here to win.
He's here to win.
Which I think that's true for someone,
like not to pick on him,
but someone like Tyler Duncan, right?
Like they're trying to stack up points and money
to a lot of.
Do a few products come to you?
Like Rafa Cabrera-Beo's played in all the majors,
all the WGC's, like he's got the money.
He's got the money.
All right.
One on the Euro tour, yeah, all that.
No, but so like going back to DJ,
I'm not, he's been playing really,
he's been playing exceptional generational golf,
but I'm not all that disappointed in him today.
Like, I am, because it means nothing now.
All those rounds mean nothing to me.
If you're doing, I'm gonna show up for the other person.
That shit doesn't mean anything anyway.
I know, all fucking point of the BJ tour.
Like, but that's what makes me more disheartened.
That's what makes me more disheartened.
It makes me more disheartened.
Like, I watched all that shit.
I felt like I wanted it to mean something
and now it doesn't.
He just did it at the wrong time.
The other thing I would say with DJ is,
I feel like DJ is pretty flat with his,
like, attack angle and everything.
He kind of presents,
he's got that long-language swing
and he kind of presents the club relatively flat.
He's not coming steep on or anything like that.
I think on some of these courses
where there's like mega rough,
I think he struggles with that a little bit.
I thought his little cut would have worked really well
because of how far removed the trees are off the tee
and that you don't have to draw it.
If you don't want to, you can drop fades into fairways.
I thought that would have worked and it just hasn't.
Well, that works as far as off the tee.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm talking more about the mid-Irns when you do miss a fairway.
A lot of people have brought this up in the chat.
Did you guys see the video of Pat Reed possibly smashing his lie down?
Is that a thing?
No.
I don't think, I think, I kind of lowkey think every player does that.
I think it's both a thing that he does more aggressively than anybody else, but it's also like something that they're never gonna call him
You got four inch rough. I we're not gonna do that. Yeah, we can't he's going
I would say he's probably done it worse than that clip showed this week
But like what I saw in that clip was nothing like it was very funny to hear them keep saying like, yeah, he just keeps getting great lines in the rough.
I'm not suggesting anything, but yeah, it was funny to hear.
Are we better, we're running quite lengthy here.
Hold on, hold on, right.
Right, right.
Rainer, you checked it.
Are you still here?
He put, yeah, I'm just disappointed.
We gotta talk to Fina, cause Fina at one point.
We don't gotta talk to you.
What do we gotta talk to Fina?
No, no, no, no.
That's when it's wrapped up. We do have to talk to Fu, because Finau, at one point, we don't get to talk to you. Well, yeah, what do we got to talk to Finau about? That's when it's wrapped up.
We do have to talk to Finau,
because Finau was,
he's still one under the table.
Finau was one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table.
He's still one under the table. He's still one under the table. He's still one under the table. He's still one under the table. He's still one under the table. He's still one under the table. DJ's part of our resistance. Yeah hell yeah.
It's always not even gonna stand for that.
I was never a factor in this.
I'll tell you when he's gonna be a factor.
We gotta pick our spots.
We gotta pick our spots to dance on Fino and this isn't one of it.
Co-CRAC, we gotta talk about Co-CRAC.
Co-CRAC shoved, I feel like he didn't.
Sorry, we didn't really talk about Ram at all.
Like what's his, I didn't see anything.
Roger, it's hard to gauge
We're
extra brainy didn't
Plus seven plus six today
Co-Craft just got cook I feel like you kind of got blinded out a little bit
Slow bleed. Yeah, just the run of cards stopped, but I told you that was gonna happen.
Like when you get pocket aces,
pocket queens, pocket kings,
all that right off the,
you're not gonna get that on that.
Every hit.
And you can't get a use of that.
You're gonna get the attention of the pit boss.
Exactly.
You're just gonna start watching the cards
a little bit close, low down closely.
Mr. Cochrag, why don't you come with me for a second?
They tried him and they won.
They got him.
They got him.
All right, last question, that's our app,
but who wins tomorrow?
I'm gonna say the big golfer.
I don't know.
Big golfer, we're getting reports.
I think the big golfer is still on the range.
I'm with you, I say the big golfer.
I think it's gonna be wolf.
Really?
No, but I couldn't say that. You're wanted to be wolf. I think it's, I'm deciding Really? No, but I couldn't say that.
You're wanted to be Wolf.
I think it's, I'm deciding between the big golfer and Zander.
I think that's the race.
I love Wolf and I hope he plays really well
and I hope he wins.
It would be so fun.
I don't think he's ready to pull out of the cell phone.
I think he's gonna, yeah.
He's gonna baptize with Bryce.
He's gonna make some doubles, man.
Right?
It's gotta make some doubles tomorrow.
The doubles aren't really out there.
Maybe famous last word. There's no reason we are. They are. They are. They're barbs. You miss greens and you
hit. But especially if he's not a great chipper. That's exactly what he did in Detroit. Right? He drove
in the wrong spot, chipped it up around the green and then chipped really poorly. So I don't know.
He was, I don't know. He was a full. So No, so we got realize all all day today tomorrow is the is the whole no fans thing
Like I feel like tomorrow is where it really makes a difference where it like I think it makes it easier
Right where you feel like yeah of course like we haven't really even factored that in yet versus which by the way
If the fans help if the fans were out there smashing down the rough the big gulf would be up by five
But that's another topic.
Another topic for. There's starting to be some wear spots where guys are walking off
greens and stuff that balls are ended up in that. There's starting to be a little, a few
wear pattern, some cart wearing patterns out there that you can find. They play a different
stuff. I'm good. Mike Davis, take back your tournament. Take back our tournament.
If the people shot in hammers, they're not fit for duty.
Take it back, Mike.
We need you.
We're our only hope.
You're our only hope now.
Alright, we'll cut it.
Rabbit-O, guys, we're watching you, Rabbit.
No live show tomorrow, but tune in to the podcast.
It'll be up, you know, same channel, same time.
Cheers. Better than most. Better than most.
