You're really fucking macaroni. And it looked like he was on offense. I felt like the last eight years have been just hopeful. He hits every shot with a hope that something turns out good.

I hope I play good. This was just taking it. He just took it in his own hands pounded driver Hit controlled wedges poured in putts down the middle on I'm in I'm sold. That's all I needed to see So like like we're seeing on the Scrant go ahead, let me go ahead now go ahead Let me let me remind you You cannot win a major on Thursday. You can lose one which we've already already perfected that. And now we're getting back in the winning graces.

Yeah, I don't know. It feels a little premature. I think, you know, save it for Saturday at least. Here's why I like today. He comes in with, again, I tweeted this today. I'm sure you guys were feeling this as well. It was hard to wake up this morning. They tee off at whatever nine o'clock

These are probably my three favorite players paired together on a golf course that I'm probably more excited for than anything other than, I don't know, St. Andrews. And I don't really know what else would be up there

as far as like really, really hyped. It was hard not to feel like it was going to be an all-time day. That's exactly where I feel like the rib has not shown up, right? It's just like royal port rush, man. Let's go fucking, oh, you made an aid on the first hole. Like, oh, God, okay. And I feel like it would have been really easy for Rory to be the anonymous guy, to be kind of sit sitting the corner,

watch those two guys and just kind of getting his own head of like, I'm gonna play really conservative, I'm not gonna go try to get it today, I'm just gonna let, I'm just gonna play safe, I'm gonna play to the middle of the greens, and he went out and fucking got it. And he was pouring puts in, I think maybe some of that is green speeds,

I don't know if you guys wanna talk about that, but I think it rewards some guys who are out there to make putts on slower greens, guys who are gonna really hammer it. And I don't know, man, it was a lot different Thursday than what we've seen in a lot of different ways. I've got two things, Dad. The producer Cody flashed up the absurd lines he was taking out of the tee,

driving the shit out of it. Great, that was not the story for me. That's all Roy hit some very cheeky wedges. Controlling the spin of his ball choking up, not trying to hit a moon ball, that's exciting. I hope he can do it in the conditions tomorrow because he got the easy way of this morning. I think it's the easy way of getting tomorrow.

In the afternoon. Yeah, the afternoon as it is forecasted now is going to be easier than the morning. The morning is when the wind is really going to blow. Like the early late guys got the good into the drill. Then hell yes, sign me up, brother. We're in, dude. Let's go. Sorry, Randy.

Third in stroke. Skate putting today. He didn't do much around the greens, but he honestly didn't miss. He was four of six scrambling, but well, I thought you had a really good point too, as far as, you know, if we're going to keep pumping up why I think he has good chance,

uh, explain a little bit of what you're talking about with driving on this golf course, too, because I think we came into it as like a very, uh, it's really wide fairways. It's probably not going to be a driving contest, but it feels like a place where like good drivers can actually mega separate themselves. There is at least a way it played today with the wind. There was spots where like you could cut corners with driver, you could pound driver into

certain spots that, um, just by looking at the flyovers was like, I don't really see the benefit in doing this, but the way it played today, like, the par-fives especially too, you could get one way down there and get after some of the par-fives, which I looked at those flyovers, I was like, no one's getting to these par-fives. And the rest of the week may not be like that, but like where he's able to drive it on 12 today, all the way around that corner where Tigers hit Niren off the tee, which we can you know, talk about some history as well, but he can hit, it's wide enough now that he can just whale on driver. There's still consequences for misses on this golf course, but like, man, he is but he can hit, it's wide enough now that he can just whale on driver.

I don't know. It just felt like there was more driver advantage than I thought going into this week. Watching, uh, watching those three guys play number 12 was the highlight of my day. I don't know if we want to jump right to what was the highlight of your day, but like having the cat come in from like almost 200 yards or so with the ball above his feet,

uneven lie. Third hole. Yeah. Yeah. Trying to like really manufacture something into that awesome green site, like just a really beautiful hole to hit a golf shot into in the first place. But then also seeing the line, Rory Tok, he had he had like 87 yards, 89 yards, whatever it was, which I think we were all in our slack

kind of like revving each other up already in the morning. Just like, oh God, here it goes. He's not, he's gonna hit it. Oh, man, he hit a great watch. Here we go. Not to mention the guys teeing off over the green. Of course. You know, that should we go first?

I don't know, no, no, you guys take it. That's gonna be great all week. I know the slow plays in issue, but I kind of like it when these guys are they're just they can't just be in their own little cocoon They have to be aware of what's going on around them even more so than usual ranny talk is off of this well, you know What what? For some cold water on this No, I listen he played great today. I the only cold water I have is it's Thursday and there's a ton of golf tournament left. And, you know, I don't want to take away from your joy in what was a great round today.

I just think as far as winning the tournament, let's get through the third round at least. And then we can revisit that. Randy, I've here to, I got to see it for more than one round. I'm here to tell you that there's a lot of golf tournament left is a good thing for him. How many times have we seen it where he just he runs out of holes? He was getting ready to shoot 29 and the other side just ran out of holes. And Rory has traditionally been a bit of a front runner, right? He gets out.

He starts peacock in. He gets his little bounce going in the fairways. Like that's when he's playing well. So that I wish I with you. It's when he, when he, he's got a fight and come back from behind after a bad first round is when he struggles. Which I know this takes going to be everywhere. And I know it's very lazy, but I think legitimately I think that started Sunday to Augusta.

Sure. I think he felt the bounce again for the first time in five years or whatever it was and carried over to today, man. That's what I keep saying is like it just, God, it seems like it would have been so easy for him to go shoot 72 today. It's basically what Speed did, right? Where it's like, maybe you get a couple birdies early and then you just kind of run out of gas

and that's usually what he does and he just didn't fucking do it today. It just feels like, feels like a different guy than what we've seen. Huge momentum putt at the last hole too. That downhill birdie was awesome. That was so clutch. And listen, huge strokes game putting number day third.

He gained over three strokes, but it was not like bombing in 45 footers. It was just like, it just looked like the do. We've been waiting for him to make 15 footers for about how many years. Since we started this podcast, like, and talk me off of this one too, but he he strikes me as somebody. I'm maybe just thinking about that year, he won a bay hill, but when they do start going in, man, they, they go in a big, big way.

Yeah, you know, he feels like very, very streaky. I don't have stats to back that up, but I don't know. That's where it's too high on now. No, come on. I hear it. I hear it to something with finally, you know, hey, I'm Roy fucking McAroy. He's talking about watching the Friday egg video. I bet he got recommended his, you know, Val Hala highlights right after that. The algorithm. He was like, yeah, why don't I watch these? God, that guy's good, man. The, uh, there was their playing through guys that are trying to hit over the top grade. Yeah. God, you know what? I used to

Picture going around with him, holding his daughter in front of a picture of him holding up the PGA Traffic air fan sickle tweeted it and said like, oh, this has been daddy was good It's like I broke my heart, but now I'm like all right. I think he's like feeling a little extra incentive to To knock this off so Nick McC one ass is Rory just teasing us which I I'm saying no Randy Are you saying yes? Is he teasing us? Is that where you're gonna call it? No, I just, you can't call it yet. That's my whole point.

I can't call it. That's our job. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. What's the most you've ever lost at a coin flip, Randy? I have no idea, but he certainly could be teasing us. We got to see how it plays out. Listen, are the odds that he's gonna lose? Yes, yes, for sure.

But are the odds, I feel like we're just a little tipped in our favor this time. And when it just seer it in on Rory over the last eight years and how he's playing right out are the odds in our favor, like this is the best opportunity we've seen since Valhalla. Is that like, think, you mean, I guess maybe the master's Sunday, the last three, yeah.

Okay, so I take that back but It feels different it does feels different Bryce Bondi 24 asked how did you guys create your own first round leader prop and not include Rory again? this day went, they don't always bounce your way, right? Like in a, in a, what's interesting to watch way, but coming in, I think we were all very like, God, that was fun to watch. I think we all said like, JT put up a shut up. You're playing awesome. This is a great golf course for you. Conditions are going to be a little weird. He ground through it at the grinded through it. I never know what the quite proper verb is in that context at the players. Grindy, I think I think grind it grind. Grindy, I think grind it as well. He grinded through it at the players. I think we all enjoyed seeing that and we're kind of saying, hey, maybe maybe that guy's going to show up. I think he absolutely did kind of round to the afternoon. That was really exciting.

And then I think the third guy is not to piss on everybody here, territoryally, but Cam Smith. I feel like right with the double and bogey early or two bogeys, whatever it was, I think he was using three over at one point. Two bogeys in a double on his front nine. He got two over. Battled it back to within three of the lead is impressive. That was going to be the main G dog was gonna be my answer.

And I think sums up why I've enjoyed this morning, specifically, I think the course looks very difficult, but it doesn't look like a US Open setup or just a, you know, every hole is punching these guys in the gut. There's opportunities to score. Number one, being an example, it feels like the pin on 17 was tough, but that hole also feels like a, like there's opportunities to score. And I, but there's also train wrecks out there. Like there were more doubles on number eight than there were birdies today, which is a wild stat to mount a part three. And Cam Smith's game fits that really well. I feel like because he's able to bounce back, like some of these guys are so consistent, you know, you saw like, Scottie's chef was getting all upset. You know, it's not going his way. Kim goes out and makes a double early and she's like, yeah, I don't care. You know, and you start looking at his card.

It's unbelievable. It's just like, I'm about to guide you. He has such a short memory. Talk about a guy who like, with slow greens, you know, like kind of hammering. I mean, they're relatively slow, right? Like, they're more like the British open type speed.

But like, talk about a guy that just like puts to make putts. Yes, right? And like, a guy that just hits the center of the putter on every single side. And if he misses the green, like, you know, great chipper of the golf ball. So, and I just, to me, it kind of frames why I'm enjoying watching them play golf on this course,

because there are, if you stay in it, there are opportunities to score out there. There's some short part fours, even the part fives, we're talking about like 640 plus yards. I think one of my favorite moments today was Duval, when they were doing the flyover, he goes on his whole solo liquid about how like, there it is, this is a three shot hole, 100%. Like, I don't see anybody going for it.

Cuts right to Tony Fienel, hitting an iron pen high and over, it bounces over the green. And it was just like oh one of those moments that Happens to me a lot where you're like man, I that's tough, you know That's that that was very poetic. Yeah, I got a lot more to say on the Duval ESPN plus We have so much to talk product. I guess we'll probably get there later, but it was awesome Yeah, I don't mean to call Duval. I really enjoyed it Yeah, that cracked me up. I it new ball. I really enjoyed it.

Man, so you know where the cat is that's for sure. I mean the super group had, you know, three quarters of the

Look, say, looks like he's in Cabo. Which it does. It looks like a nice setup there, down by the leg. Look, just outside of Tulsa, and it felt like Cabo today, though. I can tell you that. Was it, it looks so sweaty out there? It's so sweaty. It's so hot and gross. It's really nice in the morning and it's starting to get better, but man, the cat had to have been drinking gallons of

water because man, he was dripping. It looked like, did you have a cat like drip going as well? Absolutely. You guys almost lost me yesterday out of the practice round? I mean, I only had like five bottles of water. It was not nearly enough. I had to take a little breather in the media tent. So how long how long were you out there inside the ropes with the super group? About 11 holes.

Talk us off the Rory stuff. Anything you saw that we didn't see? So I want to go back a little bit. I want to go back to to Wednesday. I want to go back to Wednesday with Rory. So Rory played a solo practice round. I followed spieth and DJ. They were super giggly playing a little match, having fun, you know, getting up to the green throwing balls around and whatnot. Rory was by himself. He was extremely serious. So the point where it looked like you had a chip on his shoulder from being honest just very very cold

And then he was he was actually playing to the whole location and trying to make birdies He was getting frustrated. He was stalking putts. Oh That's out Randy your response Brandy care to comment It's gonna be yeah, you tell him out of gas by Saturday that it's gonna be, yeah, he told him out of gas by Saturday. I've heard all I need to hear. But yeah, if he missed one or lived one out, he was, he was hangdogging just, you know,

very much trying to post a score yesterday during the practice round, which was interesting. I'm not sick, I do respect that. The whole new person that I saw out there. He was hitting cups. That's so good. What do you think of the golf course? Golf course is unbelievable. It's, it's so, so good. What do you think of the golf course? Golf course is unbelievable.

It's so, so good. I can see a lot of prairie dunes in it, but this is a beefy, big golf course. That whole number 5, 656 yards or whatever it is, it's so big. And there is such an advantage for people that can hit it up over those trees and to be able to hit it as long as some of these guys are hitting it, you know, 380 plus where, you know, I saw Kevin Nye and he is 30 yards back of that bunker that's in the center line and he's dealing with the trees.

So you get a huge advantage from that. It's just such on the golf court or three connections that I think are really, really cool. Obviously, 12, 13 is a really fun spot to see really good golf being played down there. Some serious slope. You got to really deal with the, if you hit driver, you got to deal with that downhill slope coming in with that wedge. So, Neil, to your point, that's a really, really good shot. And then this, what's flash on the screen right now, this is the six connection. There's a couple of really cool holes in that back corner. And a lot of the Part 3s are very long, very similar shots, but it's a very different look, very different aesthetic that they're coming into and requires different shot shapes into these greens, which got the C-Cat due today, hitting a nice draw into that back left corner, which was fantastic.

Also think that 9 and 18 is some of the coolest, coolest golf holes that I've seen. They look, they're very similar, but couldn't play more different. 18 is just a monster. I saw some lumber going into that green today, they had the pin if you're on the right side I mean you could not could not get to it without really shaping one We're nine like you got a little bit of opportunity on that hole But you have to hit such a good shot up to those up to those greens You can't see anything not a thing from those those fairways even getting close to the green you can't see anything being long as is totally totally dead close to the green, you can't see anything. Being long is totally, totally dead.

Question for you, Ben. I think about, you know, I kind of was expecting honestly with what I'd seen from the videos and stuff, more balls really running off greens into the short areas. It seems like the runoff areas are actually just a little bit hairy. Now I heard some guys saying that makes it super hard to chip into the grain, adding a grain level, makes it harder to putt off that as well. But it just, you can see the undulations a

little better than we can on TV. Is it severe around those greens? And the balls are just kind of sticking on them. Do you think, did you see a lot more balls rolling off than we saw on TV? What do you think of that? I did not see a lot of balls rolling off because they have to be so, so conservative, especially going up to nine and, in 18. If you're not past the front of the green, I mean, that thing could come back 50 yards. I mean, it is straight up hill, which is say, I felt bad for Kat trying to walk up those,

those to those green complexes. I mean, it's straight up the hill. And that's another thing. That whole, that hill defines the entire golf course. You know, this conversation about wind and stuff. If you're down there, like kind of where this picture is right now, it slopes all the way up that hill and totally blocks the wind coming from the south. So where the clubhouse is, where it sits, that hill defines where the entire golf course is, it's all down the hill kind

of in a swale and it's totally blocked out. So there's some spots when it was middle of the day, where it was entirely stagnant because that hill is totally blocked out. He kind of put a little bit too much weight on it around whole seven. So it would be his 16th is where I really started to notice it. All the way through his six so so his 15th hole. He was walking good. He was hitting good shots. he was hitting shapes, everything was going okay,

those kind of three birdies early in his back nine. Frankly, we're just not judging the speed of the greens correctly, he was just chipping it way too far. He's playing so conservative. I was like, whoa, what happened? And he's just playing so, so conservative. Hit Niharns in spots that he, I mean, which is, I know, it just, you can hit drivers on this course. It's not running that much down the fairway. It's like, he was leaving himself a hundred yards behind Rory at times

Like you can't compete with him at that, but if he if he you know if he was playing better if he didn't get worn down It's so fun to watch him hit six irons. Oh, it's great. It is but it seems unnecessary now when everybody else isn't hitting I know but it's still like oh my god. What a shot man. It's just he's the best plot iron player of all time It's like what a treat to watch, you know, it's like kind of like batting practice a little bit. It's sweet. I couldn't, I needed a diaper. I couldn't go, I could not get up and go pee. I was like, I'm gonna be pee in the cups. Like there was no moment to get away. a little bit to the discussion. I don't know if that plays a part of it. I almost wish we would try a tournament where we split them all up and see how that changes things. Who do you think the super group benefits more the telecast and the broadcast or fan? I guess I just answered my own question because the fans are all bunched up then, right? Yeah, I think it's very good for TV. It's fun to see guys like hitting shots on top of each other. Like you get to a par three and Tiger sticks it and then Rory steps up next like that's good for everybody. And the cameras are there and the cadence works out perfect. I think, and maybe a major is different because they obviously have a lot more cameras out there, but, Randy, I feel like we talk about this with the LPGA a lot, right? Like let's do that here. So I agree there, they haven't been the most interesting holes to watch. But I've really enjoyed this golf course.
