Dej, what are you so buzzing about, man? You could not wait to get this show started. I don't know what it was. You know what? I've been very fortunate. I've worked in golf for a decade plus now. I've done a lot of things. I've been to a lot. I've been to a lot of tournaments. One thing on my list, European Ryder Cup have never done it. Today was the first day I've ever been on site at a European Ryder Cup. The only Ryder Cup I've ever been to was last year or two

years ago, it was something straights, which I obviously liked. I've moved to Wisconsin, but be that as it May bad rhetoric. Energy wasn't very high, not good. And I was walking around that whole week kind of being like, man, solid really loves this thing, but I don't know if I really see it. Being out there today was very much an icy moment. I was getting goosebumps here in the cheers.

I was like, I was not familiar with your game situation. Truly. Truly. The golf course we're gonna get to it, but looks like a completely different golf course than the one that we played in May. I think there's going to be a ton of birdies. I think there's going to be a ton of just X's blowups in your pocket, holes.

And I don't know, man, great teams, really good pairings. It's just all is kind of aligned. Good weather, good crowds, good everything. I think this is, you know what it really is, is like, so I've been sure to say Europe is one up. I think the game is one up right now. It's kind of, it's kind of where I'm at. But what I really was thinking about was like, man, it's been so, like the last year plus two years,

three years just been so cynical in the world of competitive golf, pro golf, and I don't know this year, like it feels like every week you're kind of talking yourself into you're kind of squinting at like well I guess this is kind of exciting right I mean how you know howveland he's winning the playoffs you know that's that's kind of cool right you know that's that's kind of cool and then being out there today is just like no every square inch of this is fucking awesome and I cannot wait to get it going hard so I'm ready I'm ready JD JD

It wore the shore the war by the shore I did a deep dive into that podcast and Bernard Gallagher wrote a book about it I don't really know why it's like a book of grievances. And one of the things he complained about, some of it was very justified, but some of the stuff was way too granular. But one of the things was, yeah, George Bush spoke at the opening ceremonies, who was the setting president, and he wished the US team luck on the way to victory, which the country that he was leading. Yeah, I hope that that country wins the competition. Yeah, and Bernard Gallagher of the book said that just something, you just don't do that.

So, it's saying that I have 400 times today, probably. Every time there'd be a chance or something while somebody's trying to put you just don't do that. You just don't do that. You just don't do that. But yeah, I'd know where on if George was called himself a man of God, but we did see the man of God top-layed in last night as well, but maybe I runs on the green at Brooklyn. We went to the Ryder Cup Gallows. Ryder Cup is at this week. I think there's some photos of that. If Cody has access to those. But I spent a couple hours to the course today. I was very much like I'm ready to go. Okay, let's go back home. There's not much to see or do during the practice rounds.

But I feel very, very excited, little, some surprises in the opening pairings. But the buzz on the ground is just phenomenal. And I threw some major, major cold water all over this venue and all over this event going into it. Will you apologize? You know, one of the, one of the just absolute biggest courtroom victories in the history of the world with this heavyweight white shoe legal team coming back around. You're already twisting this. So what was your complaint upfront and what changed? A lot of complaints upfront. So we played it two days after the Italian open. And so the goal was like, all right, I don't want to see this course in shape that's dissimilar to like a tournament. I want to see it as close to tournament shape as possible. And I was stunned that they had just played the Italian open on this course because the rough was unlike anything I'd ever seen.

There was just like nowhere for fans to stand. It was just a, you know, five yards off the fairway. You might lose a golf ball. We lost plenty of them, five yards off the fairway on top of being a not very good design, well design golf course. Like it's just narrow fairways, crazy undulations up to the greens, greens with really weird runoffs, just not a lot of strategy to it, it's an execution only golf course. So combine that with the conditioning and the rough that we saw, I was quite worried about this event. I thought it's not really

worthy of holding it. They've done an incredible job with the staging, like all of the signage, all of the bleachers, all the hospitality, like all of the viewpoints, they've shaved down all of the very, very thick rough that I was like, where are people going to stand? Well, it's on top of where this thick rough used to be. It's awesome. Like, it all makes sense now. Remember it's in the 90s where there was like 14 movies where the Dorky Girl like takes off her glasses and everyone's like, whoa, that was what that was walking into the golf course today.

It's like, what hole is this? Shout out to really cook. Yeah. It was not familiar with your game. Mark or Coach Simone had a glow up. They had a total glow up between May to now. And I think it's not the age in where I can be able to take some solace in that. Perhaps I was not a good fit for this course.

Probably not. I doubt he sees it that way. But again, I want to be very clear. There's still some extremely stinky holes out there. That does not change the third hole, 14, 15. I mean, one of the biggest takeaways from people that go to Ryder cups is like, dude, you can't see anything and there's no vantage points.

There's not enough golf being played out there. I mean, TPC Marcus Abonet. There are vantage points out there. 16, a ton, 17, a ton, 15's gonna have some really good viewing. I mean, there's a lot of places to watch golf, and man, it just, it does hit different. I mean, listen, I'm a huge fan of this event, and I was adamant at Wyslick Straits,

and this was not the atmosphere. Going into it, I said, this is the wrong place to have. Un-un-believeable photos, unbelievable, like images, but man, when the lake is cutting off an entire half of the golf course, like that's gonna kill, like it sounds so dumb, but like, that's gonna kill the audio, right? Like the cheers just going around,

it's like man, they kinda are just gonna drift off into this big open space. My friend Jamie Weirson, that was worth it, at least a touchdown for the Americans. If the Euro fans are able to come, it's six or seven more points. The Euro's gonna work. They would have got within your shot,

but they'd feel golf at least. Unfair advantage. So, yeah, I think putting it back into your atmosphere puts them up to Nill, right? Yeah, I think put them up. Well, in that press conference that Shane Ryan referenced in our last party, that's that's a point. That's three.

I think this is going to be at least two or three. Europe's up a bunch. I'm sure by the time we finish this pod, they'll have dropped another banger video. That'll put them up another point. But no, it, I don't know, the European fans are so freaking good at just like welcoming their players to the range and getting them excited, get a big smile out of them. And the first C atmosphere today for the European team was awesome. I'm freaking

practice rap. Like junior writer. Yeah. The atmosphere is like pretty, pretty electric. I think, here's my taking the junior writer cup. Those kids should, these kids, I'm all for it, but they should have to face hard questions from the media. It's like we should get to grill this. You have to go in the trap draw with trot. Listen, you guys saw some TikToks that you posted about your captain being sort of an incompetent, having no plan, you know. So we could just comment on why did you choose that song? That takes us really disappointed. So Again, I will apologize for not giving Marcos Simone enough time or I guess judging it too early. That's big of you.

That's all, that's all. The rough is still a factor. It's still like weird, not really golf grass. And then ball start still going to bury in it. It's not typical, I don't know, like northern blue grass or anything you'd see in the Midwest. And it's not permute. It's mostly like St. Augustine, if anybody knows what that grass is like,

which is not really golf grass. So it's still weird, especially with how much there's elevation changes between the fairways and the greens and with how narrow the fairways are. Like all that, I'm still way out on. But the word on the street is the Europeans when they showed up for their practice round, we're like, yo, this is not it.

And they shaved the rough down at that point. There's some reports going around that it's graduated unlike with golf national, the golf national was graduated rough as well. And there is still graduated rough out there. But I don't know, it's just a picture in totally different competition than what we walked up when we walked off that course in May. Yeah. That was a tough scene. I know you're public defender, but you're with me. That was a tough scene. That was a tough scene. But you know, we were not trying that day. We were trying the writer.

I was trying to convince 12 of my peers to give the writer a cup of chance and give Margot Simone a chance. You have five months for surprise evidence. Exactly. You didn't have to declare it in discovery for some reason the judge allowed it. And all of a sudden, banger.

Exactly. The jury was like, ooh. Oh. It dropped it in their lap. Anything else you guys want to get into pairings? I'm sure people are excited to get into pairings, but anything else will be noted from the course that could factor in. I was just surprised.

I mean, this is my first time to it, how much it was literally in the middle of farmland. Like just nothing to be said for in terms of, you know. Which also speaking to when we were in May, the roads are different. They've paved new roads out there. I mean, it was kind of like one way in, one way out, and now there's four lane wide roads going to and from the golf course, which is totally different. And I will say, I, you're going to hear people talk about this, and I think it is a factor

again. This is the shuttle. The shuttle. The time is a concept here. It's kind of like like the theory, right? It's like in theory, the time is three o'clock, which is great at dinner. It's great when they don't rush you. Yeah. They're bringing more wine. Not so great when you're trying to run a golf tournament and like, you know, the shuttles were, they were like, stop running yesterday because the drivers like, we're good. We're good.

Yeah, we're just kind of sick. I think it's going to be a dead positive. But as we get into pairings, this is going to play a role, I think, and it's a really hilly golf course. You've heard a lot about that. But dude, it is hot. I get really hot out there. In the 80s, upper 80s going to be

scheduled for every day. And when that sun hits even right around noon, it starts getting really hot. Do you think that factors into whether or not the guys are going to go five sessions? OK, not a professional athlete. I think it might affect. It's certainly a factor, but I don't think it's going to affect it.

I don't see a world could be totally wrong. And maybe they go up big early, but I don't see a world on the European side where hovelin, rom, and or Rory, like those three guys like, man, that seems like they're going to have to go five. It seems like Zach has an opposite right totally approach, though. So he's going to bank on the fact that though it's like fresh tires. Horses in the back. Yeah.

I love it. It's tone setter. Big tone setter right there versus Sheffler and Burns, the buddy system on full display. Right there. They got the fast pass, the Disney fast pass to the front of the line. Body system, I work in Europe though, TC. That's true.

You can't discount the fact that the body system is huge in Europe. Yeah, you think Italy is ignored the body system over the years? I think the shuttle system works. We, we have the benefit of good time zones in terms of getting back here, when getting back to doing shows. But listen, no one wants to hear about our commute. But let's, let's talk about the ROM hat and match up. I talk into some people who talk to some people. I think like the chemistry between these two

is really fun in that what we heard was basically, I think these guys love giggling about the other one getting really riled up, which is something that is really delightful to me. I think like Hatten thrown clubs or whatever, it's almost like loosening ROM up to be like, ah, that's like, that's pretty fun. And then ROM does the same thing,

it hadn't chuckled at him. So like, I weirdly think those two, like our guests, they're super combustible. But in a way, like might almost just like even each other out. I love that pairing, I think it's really fun. Hadn't made a great point of it, why doesn't ROM swear in Spanish?

And then on the US side, Scotty and and Burns, I think was a, you know, pretty natural pairing. I think everybody kind of saw that one. Saw that one coming quietly. starting at the tour championship, I think is a really fun thing. We haven't seen him play that much golf. Like he might have, might have figured something out. Well, honestly, if he got 5% better, like, what's that worth five points? If I may say two things you don't want to see, like on a Wednesday, the P got 5% better, what's that worth? Five points. If I may say two things you don't want to see,

like on a Wednesday, the PGA Tour event, when you stroll the driving range, you don't want to see somebody grinding it 430 right before the tournament starts, like that, you just cross that guy off the list. Walking around after the prex round, I saw one Scotty Sheffler working with his putting with Phil Kenyon yet again on Wednesday afternoon,

I saw San Burns on the range. So listen, maybe not the best signs to see that. I played nine holes today. They're probably trying to avoid another gala or something. I was just, you know, probably trying to stay the golf board. Um, not surprised to see this one go out first. Um, I'm guessing Sheffler is odds. He would hit off the odds if we want his iron play on most of the part threes and, yeah, Sam Burns would be more of the putter, which I think is more of the events in theory. But I mean, let's, Ron was incredible with Sergio in 2021. Now he's, I think he's even upgraded the partnership.

I mean, Sergio played a very good specific role in 2021, but Hatton can put a whole hell of a lot better than Sergio can. Really tough team. I'm not surprised to see Europe kind of do some chip pushing in this kind of first session and say, you know, afternoons getting a lot more interesting, I think, for Europe. They're trying to come out really strong. And do you have any any word to see on what you think is going to have a big shot Bob? I don't yet. I've heard that the early returns from him out on the range on the course, not good.

But, you know, it could be a Carolina headwall situation, right? Where we truly have heart in the back, ready to rock. We just got to give him a couple more days to get ready. So what do we like in this match? It's tough not to like Europe in that one. Ramen hadn't, yeah. I'm going to go, I'm going to go USA. like in this match. It's tough not to like Europe in that one. I know this is not the content anybody wants to hear, but I've never, I could absolutely see Europe winning 4-0 in the morning and I can see US going totally. I have not thought what makes it so fun. What's good about that? I know, I'm so hyped.

There was not, I did not feel like there was a ton of mystery at Whistling Straits. There was, there was a fair amount of mystery going into France. It's so weird to me still how quickly it flipped in France. Like, you know, three one for session, everyone thinks that Europe is on tilt and it was like, oh, fuck. Like, this was not going the way that I thought it would in the afternoon. So it was over. Anything that's going to happen earlier this year where we've got the ForSums matches out in the morning, this time it's Saturday afternoon. I think early momentum and then keep it rolling.

I don't think this team is going to get too high on their own supply and get too hyped. I really don't. I think they're like, it's interesting, right? Like you could have put, I was thinking about it today. I mean, I think obviously the Rory, Tommy group would have been the one that just would get people frothing like the most. And I think it's good to not put that one out first if you're here. You know, because you put that team out and they get beat or something that it just takes a ton of wind out of the sales. We'll get into all the matches, but if I'm looking at the whole, the slate is a whole, I think it's pretty important for you're up to win this opening morning session because I think if they're planning to run everyone play everyone tomorrow, I do not see a way where the it does not line up very well for the US to close

the day. Are they planning on playing everyone tomorrow? Is that a thing? I would think everybody in the U.S. plays for sure. Honestly, I think the U.S. will definitely play everyone. I don't know about Europe, and I don't have anything to back this up, just total gut feel. It wouldn't surprise me if McIntyre didn't play until singles. I know that has not happened since 99,

If you can pull JT's, Speed and Brooks Keppka and Wyndham Clark who won a major this year off the bench for the afternoon session, like you got to be feeling pretty good. And that's where it's like,

I think half it does get to the it gets to the granular level of like, hey, you like to fade it into pins and you're gonna be hitting the approach out on the odd holes. Like we're gonna put pins on the right. I say that actually, I don't know if, do they have control of where they're pinning holes anymore? So I think they've already gotten the pins, like the pin sheets for like five,

it's like, hey, here are the five pins for each hole for the week. I don't think that they announce it until prior to each round, though. So I think they can prepare accordingly for, you know, to see that pin throughout the week, but they don't know which round it's gonna be. And I'll say this now, and I feel differently about this

even than I did last night just having seen the course I don't feel like this is like a horribly tilted setup And I don't expect that to be an excuse Sunday night. I can come up with an excuse You asked me to on Sunday night, but I would pre I'll preemptively call for I think the US should take the lead Starting back page that we should go back towards more neutral setups Whatever setup would drive an exciting close competition. It's been 11 years since we've had one single close rider cup. Like if Europe goes and blows this one out, I don't think that's good for the rider cup.

Which I think walking on that golf course today, cutting down a lot of that rough we were bitching about, changing a lot of that stuff. I'm like, oh, this feels like a normal golf course, man. It feels much more neutral than it did in May. More neutral than that. I would like to see the US get ahead of it. Take the lead and say we're moving the rider a couple of way from Beth page.
