Well, here we go again, it's January baby. Grey, miserable, cold, pointless, decorations have to come down, everyone takes up running for one day, resolves to be a completely different person and then... gives up. Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, I'm Carriad. I'm Sarah. And we are the Weirdo's Book Club podcast. We are doing a very special live show as part of the London Podcast Festival. The date is Thursday, 11th of September. The date is 7pm and our special guest is the brilliant Alan Davies. Tickets from kingsplace. It's coming to London. True on Saturday the 13th of September. At the London Podcast Festival. The rumours are true. Saturday the 13th of September at King's Place. Oh, that sounds like a date to me, Harriet. Jan Jan, the worst month that ever did month. Truly sorry if this is your birthday month, but even if it is, you know, you know. It's not a good one. And also, it's dry January, so everyone presumes that no one wants to do anything fun either. So it's like this cycle that is perpetuated,
Starting point is 00:01:07 like, oh, January. Even, like, in December, I was like, oh, well, let's hang out in January because I'm going home. And my friends would be like, oh, we could. but I don't know if anyone's doing anything in January. Like, stop putting that on January. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So much. Poor January.
Starting point is 00:01:23 Poor January. As ever, when you hate something, there's always a root cause and you end up feeling sorry for it. Yeah, oh, wow. Wow, what an 180s, so quick into the episode. And also, a happy new year. Happy New Year. Happy New Year!
Starting point is 00:01:38 How are you doing? Did you have a New Year's? Was it? Ultimately. Did it happen? Was it ultimately? Unfruitful. And unfulfilling.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Yes, of course it was. Always is. Yeah, it is. It's too much pressure. You know, the Disney Channel did a good job. And I, and I tarnish the Disney channel here, but I speak for all young adult fiction. When I say, like, it did a good job of being like, this is your one chance to be kissed, you know? Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:02:05 I forgot that element. Yeah. That's what happened when you're in a relationship for that. Like, yeah, I'll probably get a kiss from someone. But, God, that was most of my life being like, And yet again... Will somebody kiss me? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Will somebody kiss me? A memoir. Will somebody kiss me? Yeah. We've decided this year to kick off the new year. We're going to be doing like a couple of, a few episodes that are all about like a different, like, fun, interesting hobby that you might, or like, a new thing that you might want to like get into and learn more about. Less hobbies, I'd say, and more, oh. Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:44 I was like, I thought you'd lost confidence about it. actually know that was your acting of what it felt like. Yeah, yeah. More like, oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah, that's like, actually, yeah, you're right. I was like, no, I'm going to build on it. Didn't.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Just did the same thing. Basically, it's things that we've gone like, oh, maybe we'd get into that. What's that? And then we've got really fun people to come on and tell us about them. So even if you've got no idea what it is, definitely listen because then you'll find out. Things that people are into. That's the, that's it, isn't it? That's our big 2022 series.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Yeah. things that people are into. We think you'll like it for this episode, because it's the first one of 2022, that's what I'm going to be calling this year. Tesla thought we'd do a New Year's resolution, which I thought was very nice. We've literally done whole episodes about how our resolutions are,
Starting point is 00:03:29 the devil's work, and can only set yourself up for failure. And so I'd say they're less resolution, and mine is more of like a vibe. New Year's vibe. Okay. New Year's vibe that I'm going to try and take into this year. Less stuff. That's my vibe.
Starting point is 00:03:42 That's a really strong vibe to have, because that's one of those things where you look back and you be like, yeah, I do have less stuff. I did do that, you know? Like, even if you haven't gone crazy for it, you could still be like, I sold that one thing in a charity shop? You've already, you've won. Yeah, I think it's about me being like,
Starting point is 00:03:58 I have all this stuff and I don't think I need it. And it's not in my treasures, here in my treasures, nestly displayed, but more like, what's under the bed? What's under the bed? Basically, I've recently met a very classy woman, and I was very affected by her presence. You're very welcome, but I, I'm very welcome, but I wouldn't say I'm class.
Starting point is 00:04:15 Oh, please, Stevie. It wasn't you. And she was extremely, she was much older and extremely beautiful. And I just was like, this woman doesn't have like stuff under the bed. Was she a millionaire? Yeah, she was. But I think that can still be an energy I can have in my heart. You know, you don't have to be a millionaire to enjoy millionaire shortbread.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Exactly right. Or minimalist lifestyle. You know, I just was like, yeah, you're absolutely right. you can't you simply cannot forget that when people are like wow god that woman's really got it together it's like how she's done that money loads and loads of money and help and other people doing things for her however i'm going to approach listen i've decided to be a wealthy woman stevie you want to be a millionaire by the end of 2020 yeah i think that's a really strong goal and one of those goals that we were talking about earlier that you can't really fail you can't really fail thank you so much stevie thank you for your support so mine is be a millionaire by the end of the year
Starting point is 00:05:07 at least in my energy your energy thank you stevie please Your resolution. My resolution is, so I've always wanted to, like, go to, like, a city or even just, like, in the UK, I think I'd have to start it on my own and, like, have, like, a week or a weekend or whatever, because I've never done it. I've never been away on my own at all. And I saw this Instagram post from this very cool girl I follow who doesn't follow me on any platforms. And she posted this thing about she'd gone to, like, Edinburgh for a week.
Starting point is 00:05:38 And she'd post this big, long caption being like, like, it wasn't, like, wanky or potentially It was just like, you know, all the good things about going away on her own and how when she first started, she didn't, sometimes, you know, she gets a bit sad that she's on her own or sometimes she kind of like as like, you know, just not every day is not like the greatest day. But it's really like helped her and it's something that everyone should try at least once to see if they like it because you'll never know if you like it if you don't do it. When we went to Bristol at time, Tessa, I really liked Bristol and I was like walking around it being like, God, this is so nice. I've been looking at Airbnb is to be like, I'm going to go away for like a week. you can maybe do some writing, go and have some dinner somewhere, you know, and really, and I'm fascinated to know what will happen. So, yeah, that's my news resolution.
Starting point is 00:06:19 That's such a good one. I think the secret to doing anything on your own is a notebook and pen. Always. And then all if, even if all you do is, right, I'm alone in it. Yes, a lot. If you're, like, at a restaurant, you're like, a white wine, please, and the stew, and then you sit by the fire in a, in a strange pub, in a strange town. And then all you do is, like, right, I'm in the pub.
Starting point is 00:06:42 feels weird. But people will be like, ah, a woman writing her opus, you know? Exactly. Okay. So, let's talk about January. Tessa, what's your kind of January, we've used the word vibe too much, but I think we just have to go with it. Oh, no, what's your January atmos? My January at most is just like misery and, um, very bold. For many years, bold opening. Bold. For many years I've been saying, I must winter abroad. Like that would be, oh my God, you literally have been saying that. Yeah. For years. And for a long time that it was simply financially unachievable. And now, of course, I'm a millionaire, so it's achievable, but illegal.
Starting point is 00:07:21 So you're not allowed to travel places or go away, you know. You can a bit. You can a bit. You're absolutely right. So possibly I do just upsticks and get the hell out of dodge. You know, so always I'm thinking, I'm thinking I need to get out. And that is not a very good approach to something where you live to be spending a big chunk of it thinking, I want to get out. Whereas really, I should.
Starting point is 00:07:42 should be trying to embrace it a bit more. No shoulds. No shoulds. Okay. Could. Oh, could. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:49 You know, I think it could be good. And it would be good if I embraced it a bit more. And I know that would help me a lot. It's just like, it's just, it's the ultimate hangover. It's 30 days of hangover. It's, it's, you've had Christmas. Here we are in the new year. We're starting again.
Starting point is 00:08:10 The weather's not good. You know. So that is the, that's the, the, the atmosphere that we're bringing. And it's not a good one. And so we're going to try now and make this, make this an upbeat episode about making January less shit, less depressing, less of a downer. And to be like, there's nothing to do about the weather, but the rest of it is up to you.
Starting point is 00:08:33 And you can approach this with a more positive attitude and say that January is your favourite month, actually, for the following reasons. Absolutely. I'm going to start off by saying, you know the wind and the willows, which I feel like I've read, but I actually think I just watched a cartoon a lot when I was younger, but fine.
Starting point is 00:08:49 When Mole starts off, and he's like spring cleaning, and he's all like, do, do it. He's like, I was obsessed with the concept of, like, spring cleaning, and he talked about, like, whitewashing his walls and stuff. A lot of fun. I think there's this back-to-school element of September, but I think the back-to-school element for adults, because we were not in school, unless you're a teacher,
Starting point is 00:09:08 but you're also going back to school then. It should be January. And it's like that's the feeling we're going to, you're getting your new stationary, you're getting your new bag, what's this year going to be for you. January as you start as you mean to go on sort of thing. That's very nice. You're a little mole by the river whitewashing your little walls in your tree. Okay. Already, already my stars, my like, my Mario Kart, do do do do, do. Energy has like, says someone who's never played Mario Car, but it's guessing from.
Starting point is 00:09:36 I was really excited. I was like, I've never played Mario Car. So his little stars go do do, do. I think when you rush through a coin on Mario Car, your energy level goes up. And then like it obviously depletes to nothing. So I would say I enter January depleted to nothing. And even just hearing that about the window and the willows, I'm like, do do do do, okay, little bit. I'm a little bit. Here I go.
Starting point is 00:09:57 Okay, I'm a mole. I'm tidying up. And this is absolutely on brand for my new classy millionaire lifestyle. Yes. I'm getting rid of things. I'm making a wardrobe that's just a lovely number of pieces. You know, I'm just, I'm, let me. It always comes down to. It always comes down to whatever you're saying anything.
Starting point is 00:10:14 It will always, it's like one of those laws of science. Like if you talk for long enough, you will come down to, I want my wardrobe to only contain a certain number of pieces. Well, then I must embrace that truth. I cannot whang on about this. So it's happening. It's happening now, baby. Yeah. So January, it's our, we're back to school.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Clean notebooks, clean stuff. We're polishing the corners. We're getting this house clean. Yes. We're painting the walls. We're doing stuff. We're cleaning up here. Everybody's different.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Everybody has their own thing that they need to get in order. But I think it's quite a good idea to start with where you live. So even if you're like sort of find where you live, you might benefit from like just like reorder your living room. Or like perhaps you said, no, I don't need a table. I'm going to stack some apple carts on Apple trays. What? Boxes on top of each other that they're not real Apple boxes.
Starting point is 00:11:08 But it looks like they are. And you've got a METSI and they keep falling over and you're like, no, they're like shelves. It's good. They're not. Get yourself a bedside table that actually functions. Do identify the areas where you keep going like, fine. And just do them. And that can be like your first week of January.
Starting point is 00:11:25 It's so important that we don't go too far and go like, so you're going to completely revolutionize your life. You just give yourself maybe like one, even two aims a week where you're like, this is the week that I'm going to do this. Okay, the second week of January, I'm going to do. do this. May you suggest some this is for us? Well, I think I didn't, did you, I'll refer you back to my apple cart. Sorry, number one, I'm going to saw out the bedside table. Yes. Okay. Number two. Yeah. Number two. Okay, I've got, um, like a project that I've been wanting to do for like, I've been sort of fanning around about for ages. And January is the time when I'm actually, I've emailed relevant, uh, professional people to be like, don't contact me. I'm going to be doing
Starting point is 00:12:04 this in January. Right. Because whatever happens, even if I don't complete it, even if I don't really get very far. I know I've like taken the time to do it. I'm also going to, uh, I get my hair, my roots done like every few months and I get like every six months because I refuse to do it more because it's expensive and like, God, I'm not spending that amount of money on my hair. Like it's boring. But in January, that's two months earlier than I should be. I'm going to get not only my roots on. I'm going to go um so blonde that like the sort of blonde that it's like, um, almost like a silvery grey colour because I saw a woman doing it with it and she looked amazing and I was like I'm going to do that in January rather than in February March because I think that will perk me up.
Starting point is 00:12:50 Great, great. Like those like bullshit self-care things that are not bullshit of course but that you know like they get a lot of flack because it's like on Instagram people go like, if you've got depression, light a scented candle. You're like shut up. But we're going to do all of those things in January and it's not just about buying stuff. It's about like looking at what you've got and going like yeah i've got that sort of candle that my aunt bought me three years ago i'm gonna light it next to the bath and have one of those fancy lady baths we are lighting that fancy scented candle that you save for best because best becoming best is january and if you're like i don't like it good gone out it goes we are spring cleaning emotionally physically metaphorically sexually sexually
Starting point is 00:13:31 sexually if need be like we are we're re-approaching everything so it's like i would say when your mole, you're cleaning, you're doing, you're lighting the things that are for best. Because if now is not best, then when? What if we make January, you said the shittest month? We're like, January is for best. This is when we only have our best things. The best crockery. I've got very into, I'd show you my nice nails TV.
Starting point is 00:13:53 You have. I've got very into, so I had my first ever Shalak. My friend, Emma City, gave me a voucher for Shalak for my birthday, literally 2020. I didn't use it until 2021, because I was afraid of Shalak. It turns out just means they stay on longer and it's really reasonable. And I feel fantastic. Yeah, like everyone's got their own little details that we let drop because when you're feeling down and like, yeah, mine is definitely like my hair. I'll just be like, yeah, I haven't washed it in two weeks, but it's okay because I'm wearing a hat.
Starting point is 00:14:25 You're like, in a way, don't do that. Or I'm in a way, no. Or like, you know, I already am sort of running out of like the nice shampoo that keeps my hair blonde. I'm like, yeah, it's January on it. I just wear, use all that shit stuff at the back of my cupboard. Absolutely not. Replace it with the proper shampoo. Obviously, this is very basic business.
Starting point is 00:14:44 And then when you're like, I'm not using that stuff at the back of the cupboard. Good. Gone. It's gone. It doesn't live here with us anymore. Why is it there? Gone. And to return back to Stevie's projects, like now that we're sprinklinging physically, emotionally, our hair is done, our nails are done, our feet are done in whatever that means to you. You know, like, you're like, oh, okay, look at me.
Starting point is 00:15:03 This is my most glamorous month of the year. Top hats on my feet. Wow, I look good. I'm wearing my best gear. I'm not just slobbing around in pajamas. Every day is a fashion show for me. And when I put my best gear on, if that day I'm like, wow, I don't actually love this.
Starting point is 00:15:15 I'll put it back in the wardrobe. Will you? No, thank you. Gone. Out it goes. Into a charity shop. Everything's living. It will be loved.
Starting point is 00:15:20 It will be loved by Samadales. Let it be somebody else. Let it be somebody else's best thing. So try on all your outfits this month. Not overwhelmingly all at once, but every morning, be like, here's my look today. And if it's not working, it's gone. Those shoes aren't for you.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Out they go. also to return to Stevie's, the project, if you've heard of something that we would describe as faffing around your imagination for the year, so like the thing that you're like, oh, I've got this sort of idea or like, oh, I've been, and that doesn't have to be something written or poetry or a play. It could be like, I'm thinking of building the shelf or I'm thinking of doing cooking this thing. Making a plum cake. I've been thinking about making a plum cake for a year. Or like, I've got a new, I think I've got a new way I can do that and I think it would work. or I've been meaning to, whatever,
Starting point is 00:16:05 and not I mean to sort out the drains, but like something that you're like, I want, this is a creative thing I've been thinking of doing and I dwell on it on the bus. I dwell on it when I'm like, oh, it's this noise, like, oh, I should really do that. I should really, right? Now we're writing this list down
Starting point is 00:16:21 and we are getting things done. We're making strides. We're not completing them, but we are beginning the process. Let's try this. We, every day for this year, beginning, we're setting ourselves up in January so that we go into the rest of the year like this, we are improving every day by 1% great. Love that. And so every night we go to sleep and we're
Starting point is 00:16:43 like, what is the 1% improvement I'm going to make tomorrow? And low, we do it. One percent, totally achieved. And what do we get by the end of the year? 365% improvement. Millionaire. Millionaire. I want to talk about something. Yes, please do. My inevitable self-filling prophecy is like, here's my whole lifestyle overhaul. Here it goes, oh, look, disaster. Oh, I'm the worst person. What's the point back I go down into my hole. So what do we know to do? And we've talked about this on the podcast before, but I refresh everyone, because it's important to remember in January, your smart goals. Capital, Samma, A, Rha, smart. Have we done this on the podcast before? Because I'm absolutely captivated.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Oh, yeah. We have. I want to know what all those stand for. We definitely have. I mean, I had to look it up because I couldn't remember, apart from, I knew a few letters. Any thoughts on what any of those letters. Sexy. Sexy. Sexy, mature, adult, R-rated. And tarty. And tarty.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Okay. The S is for specific. Right? So it's like, rather than just like, I'm going to be, I, well, a millionaire is actually. No, it's not specific. No, no. It is. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 00:17:55 It's a million pounds. Okay. Because the wrong thing would be rich. Okay. You know what? Yeah, no, you're right. Yeah, fine. Listen, I'm going to for.
Starting point is 00:18:02 down at the A, which is, is it achievable? Sorry, let me have this. Don't worry, I'm obviously going to fall down, but I am correct for specific, okay? So like, specific. It's not just the ambiguity of rich or healthy or something. Maybe we should use my news, well, okay, what's yours? No, no, like they're going away specifically into Bristol for a week. Great, great.
Starting point is 00:18:27 That maybe feels more like, because I feel like you're using the millionaire in any example. Obviously it's a joke one, so it doesn't feel like it's going to be grounded or helpful. We'll do us both at the same time. Right, yours is specific. So yours is going to be going away by yourself. To Bristol. To Bristol. For how long?
Starting point is 00:18:51 I'm thinking either long weekend, if I feel like too frightened for a full week, but maybe later on, if the latter six months, the quarter, Q4, I don't know when that starts, when that ends, maybe a week. So first, long weekend, second week. Both times you're going to go to Bristol? Yes, both times. Same place. There'll be Bristol practice and then Bristol business.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Just live in game. Bristol, if you're not bothered about Bristol, but yeah, fine. Go to Bristol for a long weekend by yourself. Perfect. Mine is make a million pounds. So just showing people where you might fall down here, you might say just be rich or for Steve, it might be like, go away. Oh, right.
Starting point is 00:19:31 And you'd be like, go away and you're like, where, when? Like, what's the plan? You know, like, otherwise you're just like, travel alone. You're like, do you mean to Vietnam for a year? Or do you mean to Liverpool for the afternoon? Like, what's your, what's the range here? Okay. Measurable.
Starting point is 00:19:47 To which is to stay like, obviously for me, did I make a million? Yes, no. So you smashed it again. Yeah. For you, did you go to Bristol for the weekend? Yes. It's very easy to quantify that, yeah. Yeah, mesh now, like, which is like, be healthy.
Starting point is 00:19:59 you're like, what's the remit here? Yeah, that's true. Or like the classic ones, how fast. Get more fit and active. You're like, well, that, you actually might be, but you won't know because how do you really know that unless you're like...
Starting point is 00:20:13 How are you measuring that? Yeah. So I would say it's like, I want to work out what you can currently run 5K in or even if you can run 5K at all and be like, I want to take a minute of my 5K time. Or I want to complete this race. Yes, or if I may, genuinely, one of my private ones, which obviously in the spirit of,
Starting point is 00:20:29 of me doing this podcast and I just like just bear my soul. My new, my other proper news resolution is don't get Botox. That's very measurable, isn't it? Yeah, did you or did you not? Yeah, I'll know. Listen, we'll discuss that a later day. I hope it will just make me be more accepting of my own face. You know, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Oh, that's a great one. So, so that's a thing. Be more accepting of the concept of aging and the relentless march of death. Quite tricky. Measurable, don't get Botox. Yeah, you know, perfect. We're doing it, guys. We're doing it. Everyone's getting the concept. Right, here we go, and this is where I'm going to collapse. Achievable.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Yes. For achievable. Is it doable? Make sure is that you will often, not with the millionaire thing, but you're very optimistic about your own skills. Yeah, yeah. You are, as a very skilled woman, very much so. But sometimes, yeah, it will be like, oh, can you? And you'll go, yeah. You're like, right. So it's quite, but more often not, she can't. But also very difficult to measure for you whether something is achievable or not, because you genuinely believe everything is achievable sometimes. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:21:39 And this is why I have a problem. Ask a close friend. Or, ask three close friends. Is this achievable? Is this achievable? Yeah, great. So three close friends. So, for you, you know, can you run?
Starting point is 00:21:50 I'll just ask someone if I've had Botox or not. Yeah. So that is achievable to not have Botox. If you're like, if you just, mindlessly say like I'm going to run a, I'm going to run the marathon in two hours. You're like, obviously not, you know? Yes, I suppose that is actually helpful. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:06 I think you, just as a warning to yourself, you might, during that time when you said, make sure I never do a marathon again, and then you sent me a selfie when you were doing a marathon? And you knew that I would stop you or tell you you shouldn't. He just didn't tell me. And then you went to Greece and did the actual original marathon. And did a selfie going, oh, here she is again.
Starting point is 00:22:27 like, well, I can't stop you now. Well, yeah. Your resolution wasn't to not do a marathon. Like, I might as see, it sort of was. No, but I would say, like, the other day I did go and do, I did go and do another, I will, I swear to God I will never do another marathon again, but I did do a half marathon the other day. Did you?
Starting point is 00:22:44 Yeah, I think you knew that. I went to, you know, I remember, I got up drunk and went to Newcastle on my own and did the Great North Run. Oh, yeah. You remember. I do remember that, yeah. And as I started the Great North Run, I was like, I'm going to come in in sub two hours. And I, honestly, that was my thing on the start line.
Starting point is 00:23:01 And then as I, like, was running around, I was like, let's have a rethink, pal. And let's just attempt to finish. Let's just reassess the goal to finish. I'd like to add don't do a marathon to your New Year's resolution. Don't do it. Or half one. No, I don't mind it. I can't get around a half one.
Starting point is 00:23:18 You don't mind it. But I think when you're doing it, you're like, I don't want to do this. No, I don't mind a half one. I would, that's for me. I truly would like to do it in a, and I don't mind. actually know my time now. I do actually know what I can achieve. And it's not sub two hours, but I do know the number. And I've made the number only a few minutes shorter than my current number. And that is achievable. Oh my God, you've done it. You've already. Yeah. So I've, yeah, but this,
Starting point is 00:23:42 but I had to go through this process midway around the Great North North North. And that's the third time you've done this. Yeah. It's done it. So it would be good if I, you know, fucking learn to do this a bit earlier. Right. Are raunchy. Are relevant. Okay. I would like to win an Oscar. That's irrelevant. Yeah. So it's like, it's sort of, I don't care for the R
Starting point is 00:24:03 because I don't know, I don't mind what your goal is. So I'll just, oh, we'll rethink it to smack. But what do they say? Like, what does relevancy mean? Like, what does that actually? Well, this is, so this is when it's like sort of within a, these were invented within a workplace setting. So this is why it's like, what is it, what's the gain?
Starting point is 00:24:20 But I say, like, how does the goal align with your broader goals? Why is the result important? And I would say, any goal aligns with. your broader goals if you achieve something and anything is relevant. So I think for anybody, R is fine. So RR. So RR. So RR.S should be, for the purposes of this podcast, raunchy. A bit of fun.
Starting point is 00:24:37 Raunchy. Ronchy. A bit of a raunchy resolution. Can it be raunchy in any way? And then T and this is the last one is the time frame. So T is for time, time bound or like time achievable. Like, can you be reasonable? And this is when you have to ask three close friends.
Starting point is 00:24:52 Can you actually do that within this timeframe? So for yours, great. Can you not get Botox today? Yes. Can you go to Bristol this year? Yes. Can I be a millionaire in a year? It feels like no.
Starting point is 00:25:07 I'm genuinely going to say it feels like yes? I'm going to be like, oh God. No, it's no. It's once again. No, you can't. But probably not. No, is it actually, this is going to be really serious and your three close friends have to tell you the truth.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Is it time achievable? So that's what the T for Time Band is. And this is when you need to be like, truly any person is, If you set out to train and run a half marathon in under two hours this year, yes, you could. Could you do it tomorrow? No.
Starting point is 00:25:32 Could you maybe do it December 30th at the end of this year? Good chance, you know, if you truly committed to it. So it's about being like, can you clean your whole house today from top to bottom and everything be sorted? No. Can you do it in January? Maybe, you know? And so it's about, this is about, you know, the we're trying to wherever possible to step away from ever this month, going, oh, fuck it, what's the point?
Starting point is 00:25:57 Fuck it, it's January, I don't care. It's about we're trying to just, we're improving ourselves 1% and we're doing it in a way that does not reinforce the narrative we already have, which is that there is no point at January's rubbish. Yes, and if I may, the final thing I wanted to say. Bring us home about joy.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Yeah, is this whole element that I sort of said at the start where it's like, oh, everyone's saying dry January, no one wants to hang out, and everyone has birthdays in January, I always like, oh, it's the worst month to have birthdays because no one wants to come to a party. Well, there'll be, that's not everybody. I mean, it's not me. I've never done to enjoy January because I always feel that, like, I don't understand what the point of it is because it's very like, it's the worst month. So if you want to have like, you know,
Starting point is 00:26:39 a nice cider or a nice lovely glass of wine with a friend, give yourself that, because this is the month you need it more than anything else, more than any other time. And also you'll have friends who also feel the same about January. And wouldn't it be a great opportunity? to book stuff in over the month. So it's like, and we're not, we're not talking like huge amounts of money here. We're talking like anything from like if you've got money. Like, okay, we're going to have like, like, the first Sunday of like January, we're going to have like a big Sunday roast with like loads of mates.
Starting point is 00:27:11 Or you're going to have friends around and just get like some pizzas in. And like you've got basically like things spread out throughout the month, social things that you are looking forward to doing. Whatever that is, whatever your personal like, you know, oh, that'd be. fun thing is whether it's going to see a play, whether it's going to see a film, whether it's literally just going around to someone's house and having a, like, bringing someone a latte who's just had a baby and you're going to be like, I'm going to go and see them or like, whatever your thing is, don't see it as like, oh, I can't go out or have fun or do, because no, not everyone
Starting point is 00:27:45 is doing dry January and also no, not everyone is like, I'm not going out. And I think those two things can sometimes go hand in hand, which is just why, you know, bloody alcohol is so tied up with fun in this country, but like it sort of like bleeds out into like everything, doesn't it? Like dry January, oh, so there's no fun or no anything. Also, like, if you're not drinking, that does not mean that you can't like go and do fun stuff. Like, go and do fun stuff.
Starting point is 00:28:09 Dry Jan shouldn't have this like, ugh aspect to it. It doesn't mean you're dry emotionally. Very good. Have a spiritually wet January. Yeah, spiritually wet, alcohol dry. You know, like you can be dry and still go out and have a good time and do things and see people and have nice stuff. You know, it doesn't have to be like, I'm doing Dijan, so I'm not going out.
Starting point is 00:28:27 You're like, get over yourself. Yeah. Just have a sparkling water and go to the pub for Christ's sake. Yes. Have your, have a good old moist time. Have a wet time, you know, just not with any alcohol in it. Like, yeah. And I would also say, like, a few years ago I received a text from a friend on New Year's Day,
Starting point is 00:28:45 who I had not seen a long time that was like, my use resolution is to see Tessimo this year. And I was like, that is the nicest thing in the world. Thank you. And so if like, if you are like, oh, I wish I. I saw this person better this year or whatever. Send them that text. It's so nice to receive. Especially if, you know, friendship as well as it has with so many people has deteriorated to simply
Starting point is 00:29:04 who is in walking distance of your house. Oh, God, yeah. You January to see those people that last year, you were like, I didn't see them enough. And they make me feel really good. Yeah. And because so often you can fall into the habit of just meeting up with the people that are the most organized at meeting up rather than the people that you actually want to see. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:23 So make sure that you. see at least three people this month that you've really missed and you really want to see. Like look, I'm actually completely raring to go for January. I genuinely feel great. I feel, I'm like, yeah, okay, we're going to mole. We're mole in every aspect, you know, we're friendships are improving, relationships are improving, our hair is improving, the house is improving, our wardrobe is improving, health, we're doing the stuff, we're doing everything. Oh, I'm absolutely buzzing. Yeah. And we're just increasing ourselves, one percent.
Starting point is 00:29:55 every day. That's totally and we're making it achievable. Yeah. We're not going to transform into a different person come Feb? No way. Our only aim is for the end of this January to look back and go, oh, that wasn't as bad as most January. No, in fact, that was my best January.
Starting point is 00:30:11 She's gone, she's gone, she's gone big. Uh-oh, uh-oh, okay, okay, let's scale it back. That was a good January. That was a good January. That was a good January. See, thank you, Stevie. Exactly. That was the best time I've ever had in my life. Yeah, see, I do it all the time. I've got to get better with my smart goals. Okay, that was a good January.
Starting point is 00:30:28 And crucially, if you take away nothing else, it is like the fancy candles, you know? It is, commit to yourself this year, to commit to January. You show up for January and January will show up for you. And also buy our audio book. And also by our goddamn audio book. Just try, I'm trying to be better at promoting the book,
Starting point is 00:30:48 considering people keep going, oh, have you got a book out? I'm like, nah, I don't know. So, yeah, that.
