Hello, I'm Carriad.
I'm Sarah.
And we are the Weirdo's Book Club podcast.
We are doing a very special live show as part of the London Podcast Festival.
The date is Thursday, 11th of September.
The time is 7pm and our special guest is the brilliant Alan Davies.
Tickets from kingsplace.com.
Single ladies, it's coming to London.
True on Saturday, the 13th of September.
At the London Podcast Festival.
The rumours are true.
Saturday the 13th of September.
At King's Place.
Oh, that sounds like a date to me, Harriet.
Welcome to the
Biddy Panic. What are you going to say?
The podcast.
That makes sense here because it is a podcast.
I'm Stevie.
I'm Tessa.
And we are here to help your lives
in any way that we can.
Small or large.
Sometimes.
Quite large.
Sometimes.
Sometimes it's big.
Huge amount.
Welcome.
Hope you're having a lovely, lovely time.
Hope you're feeling good.
I'm not.
No.
How are you feeling?
So I was one of those people of them,
and this is.
relevant to the podcast topic today.
Please.
I was one of those people that literally, but six months ago,
said very boldly, oh, I don't get colds.
Like, I just don't.
And I really didn't.
I never get colds.
I didn't get freshest, flu.
I think, I can't remember that I had a cold.
Really?
It's almost like the Lord was listening,
and the Lord gave me three colds in the space of,
I'd say, five weeks,
which doesn't feel like a lot when you say it,
but when you're experiencing it,
it's quite, colds are much,
worse than I thought they were. Right. I can't believe you've had a cold. I'm really spiraling through
my back catalogue of images of you to see if I can find one. So basically, I've been, before we
kind of plow in, I have been reading about the coronavirus. Absolutely. And then within about
two hours, I got a cold. I think I've given myself a psychosomatic cold. Very much, so.
Real, very real thing. And I've been very dismissive of people who've said that they've got a cold and
said that they can't come into work or whatever. It's actually quite debilitating. I'm quite tired.
Oh, yes. Very tired.
So we're going to look at how you're not very coldy person.
You occasionally get the old sniffle, but you're not like a big old cold woman, I'm.
That's thank you very much for saying, but in fact I am.
Oh my God, do you hide that so well?
Thank you. That's ever so kind to say.
I think it's because you just think I look like a low, this level of sickness that I look at.
You look quite sick sometimes.
Yeah, right?
You know, you have seen me look terrible.
Basically, a hundred years ago, I'd have been long gone.
I would not be for this world.
She's like a Victorian woman.
Victorian woman.
Say, away from me.
Ever so frail.
going to die of consumption
going to get typhoid fever from the gutter
Did you get swine flu?
No, no one got swine flu.
It surprises me that you didn't know
No, because no one did.
Didn't exist, it turned out.
May I tell you?
I got diagnosed with swine flu.
Ebola, coronavirus, like you are not going to get them.
We build ourselves up into an absolute terror about them.
It's not going to happen.
No, I'm fully aware.
I know that, but my brain doesn't.
So it's given me cold.
I know it doesn't, but you've got to keep telling your brain.
I know.
What's the most adult thing that you've done this week?
I put some.
documents into a folder.
Is that it? Yes.
It's very good.
I've never done this in my life.
If anyone would like to imagine it, it's like a picture of it.
It's like a folder.
Yeah.
It's blue.
It's got a little one of these boys on the top.
The bar is quite low for the adult thing of this week.
It's so low this week.
Honestly, it's a miracle I'm here and dressed.
And what am I wearing?
A dress I bought from Primock on the way here that I'm about to take back on the way home.
But I feel snazzy.
It's in a little folder I would describe.
A nerd pocket.
Anyway, it's got some important papers in it
and I feel the beads, knees with it.
So I understand now why people do it.
Okay, that's a good one.
Thank you.
I think that may tie with my,
I bought a box for my jewellery.
I think that, or tin for my ear.
It's low, it's so low.
Yeah.
I also, I've never done it before.
So listen, who are we to throw shade on what and what is not adult?
There's no shade.
What's yours?
It's only sunlight.
Okay, mine's slightly odd.
It's an odd one.
Gosh, what a surprise.
So my grandma, shout out to Chris Martin.
Hello, Chris Martin.
That is her name.
That is her name.
Grandma had a really, really dreadful back for a long time.
She still does.
Lots of pain.
And the only thing that would make it better was CBD oil.
But for a long time, before it all became cool,
I was aware that there was this cream that my auntie was essentially smuggling in from a non,
may have been smuggling in.
Sure.
May have been smuggling in down her top from a country that I won't name.
and my grandma was using it and it was really helping her,
and I had no idea what it was.
It was CBD oil.
Oh, great.
And then CBD oil and CBD stuff is now massive
and it's become legal.
So my aunt just doesn't have to do that anymore.
I can't just buy it.
Oh, good.
I'm very well.
So tell the listener what CBD oil is.
Well, it's like cannabis oil,
but it's not got the thing in it that gets you high.
It's cannabis banabist doil.
CBD.
Thank you.
And it's missing out the psychotrophic part.
TCP.
It can't be TCP.
No, it can't because that's like brown.
So if you.
fear the TCP part as I do, then you're totally safe with CBD.
Yes, I once took one huff of a doobie.
Would we call it a huff?
And I couldn't feel my arms and I threw off,
and that's the only time I've ever done the TCHP-T-C element.
Anyway, I'm very skeptical of the whole CBD, you were saying.
But when I found out that my grandma, it did actually help my grandma.
I was like, okay, well, maybe I'll try it.
As we all know, maybe you don't.
Maybe you're a first-time listener.
Hi, I'm Stevie.
I'm very highly strong as a person.
So I'm still.
And I'm desert sometimes too loose.
too loose and that's why it works so I thought you know what fuck it I'm going to have like the CBD
gummies they're like gummy it's like vitamins and you're like these taste nice that's kind of what it is
and so I've started having them they're by a company called pollen the ones that I've got and you know what
they're like very big fruit pastels they taste really nice and I can't obviously I can't say either
way like oh wow I'm now cured but what I would say is I've been taking them for three and a half weeks
and I haven't thrown up any wants.
That's quite not characteristic.
Wow.
So I think they do have a sort of a calming effect
because you don't feel any different when you eat them.
You just sort of notice after the fact like,
oh, I sort of dealt with that quite well.
Well, if I may, today Steve arrived
and her hummus was loose in her backpack.
It went all over my boyfriend's book.
He'd lent it to me.
Yeah, quite a nice looking book.
I licked it off the book.
She licked it off the book.
The hummus was a loose boy.
It was a loose boy.
And you just imagine how you'd feel.
You've packed your lunchbox.
You get the hummus is loose.
And I leapt up to get you your stuff, but you were to dealing with it.
I was fine.
You were absolutely fine.
It's like I'm, yeah.
I mean, yes.
Also.
You were complete.
I would, I'm totally agreeing with your point that you were absolutely fine.
You just, you just dealt with the hummus.
I licked the hummus off.
You lit the hummus off.
And you just, you went about your day.
No harm, no foul.
And that's the aim, I think.
The aim of CBD oil is, if you can't.
Stop the hummus being loose.
No.
But you can just lick it off a book.
But you can just look it off the book.
Okay.
I might have a go.
Look, have a go.
Anyone listening, have a go.
So, talking of having a go, what about having a go on this old cold of mine?
Yes.
Oh, it's very tedious having a cold.
It's tedious having a cold.
Is it cold season?
Let's just say it's cold and flu season.
I guess it always is.
Is it?
100%.
It's because it's cold outside.
Isn't it?
Yes.
So, no, but being cold.
lowers your immune system, so you catch a cold.
Yeah, it is cold and it will be the entire winter.
And the entire year.
Now, do you know, I googled being like, cool, like, how can I, so how to cure a cold?
You can't.
Did you get that same answer?
Yes.
Yeah, once it's happened, there's very little you can do.
You can speed your recovery.
Sure.
A shade, but you basically, you can't, it's not a fix.
If it's happened, it's happened.
That's in the podcast.
And good night and go with God.
Cold season is very much about prevention
And if you are in it already
A speedy recovery, but mostly prevention
To make yourself, yeah, feel better while it's happening
But it'd be better if it didn't happen at all
It would be, so I read that
So I went when I got Allma Cold
And I was like, well, it must be my immune system, sure
And I've been told get more sleep and eat well
And don't be stressed
And I was like, that's okay, yes
But what can I actually do?
Like let's talk shop doctor, come on
Yeah, where can I buy my gum
Because I buy my gummies.
Turns out you can't buy gummies.
No.
But the thing is that we're so, we've gone so mad that he did tell you the three things you can do.
And you're like, yeah, yeah, yeah, schmaw, shmaw.
Oh, what?
Don't we stress and drink more water?
Shut out.
Sleep, schmeep.
Yeah, it turns like, yeah, sleeping's really helpful.
But the problem is that because I only realized when we were, like, researching this podcast
that I didn't know what an immune system was.
Okay.
No, but you do, okay, fine then, go on, what is an immune system?
Is a system in your body that protects you?
Yes.
but it's every single part of your body.
So they don't even really know.
They don't actually know.
There's not one thing that can just help it at all.
So they think it's often food you eat, of course,
your stomach, the way that your stomach works
will affect like every other part of your body.
But it's so massive.
It's like saying, I don't know,
it's just like saying your soul.
Like it's...
Absolutely.
So if your immune system is compromised,
so if it's dealing with like some massive thing in your body,
you are much more likely to get some other problem.
So one of the big things that how people died from having HIV is that it compromises your immune system so intensely that your body can't fight anything.
And then you died from like pneumonia or a totally separate disease.
Yeah, you didn't die the thing.
It just made you so, because your body was like, we're so busy fighting this, we can't fight anything else.
And so even though we're dismissive of like, more exercise, less stress, more sleep.
A citrus perhaps for the lady.
One citrus, please.
Not a chocolate orange doesn't count.
Then those are the thing.
we're just trying to make your body as like fighting fit as possible in order to combat all the things.
Yeah, because there's so many different types of cells that respond to different things that are made up of your, that make up your immune system.
But yeah, unfortunately, when you see those things that are like, well man, David Gandhi has been taking well man vitamins since his early 20s.
And you're like, and did it work, David?
Nowhere in the quote says that work.
No, it's so funny.
They made me off every day.
Also, test daily's one is I like to start.
my day with taking a well woman.
And then I like to imagine the end of the quote is like taking a well woman like out into the garden and shooting her, you know?
Taking a well woman.
Because it doesn't say like this is any good.
It just says, I like to start my day.
I do take it.
We don't even know that.
We just know that she likes to start her day by taking.
It's the most ambiguous quote.
I've been taking it since my 20s.
And?
And?
And?
These are adverts for well-known vitamin, by the way.
I mean, the thing about those vitamins is number one, be aware that they're selling them to you because, you know,
there's like if you walk up the tube steps like nine out of ten adverts will be like feeling tired
is waiting for us a sweet release of death from your job like try these vitamins you know there is a
reason they're selling them to you and there is a reason they're on the tube yeah so like number one
be aware of that and number two they're not going to do any harm like no they're dead in if they got
vitamins in them primrose oil my point is like those things if they out they you know if they make you
feel good uh power to yes because the there is genuine science there's more genuine scientific research
for the positive effects of a placebo,
which is where they did those experiments,
where they gave a certain amount of people actual medicine
and the other people were just a sugar pill,
and the sugar pill people actually enjoyed just as many benefits
as the people with the actual pill.
There's so much evidence towards that,
and there's very little evidence that actual vitamins do,
and vitamins in food, yes, but vitamin tablets,
they don't really do anything.
And also, some will help.
So, for example, I had really bad,
and this is a sign of bad immune system as well,
I had loads of like, oh, mouth ulcers, you know, and you get a mouth ulcer, and out, I'd like 20 in my mouth at one point.
And then I took these vitamin B12 tablets and they really helped because I wasn't having B12 in my diet.
So they can help for specific things, but no tablet is going to boost your immune system.
No, much like witchcraft.
Yeah, I was wondering when we'd bring this in that actually.
You know, the witch says, oh, these pills are sorted out, you eat them twice a day and you lie down for an hour afterwards to head.
get the pill down and you're like, fine, I'm lying here.
But you're like, but really wink, wink, wink, the thing is the lying down.
Yes, exactly.
You know, a lot of witchcraft is just saying like, you're fixed now, but you have to do this.
Placebos lower your stress levels because you believe that you're in control and you're doing something positive towards the cold or your immune system,
which will in turn lower your stress levels and boost your immune system.
Because the things, so there's a short list of...
May I say an amazing thing about the immune system?
Oh, my God, please.
So, Nora adrenaline, if you're not.
You know how you've done, you were very busy with work and you had like an intense week.
I was and I have.
You're reading my mind here, babe.
I can see it in your eyes.
Or you've had like intense thing to get through and you're like, oh my God, I've stayed so healthy through this.
Like, well done me.
And then as soon as it's over and you're like, oh, I can relax.
You get sick the next day.
Are we all Ophay?
Yeah, oh my God, I'm so Ophay.
That's 100% success rate in the room.
My research stands up.
It is because your body was like flooded with Nora adrenaline while it was doing its thing.
and it was like, focus, focus, focus, focus, focus.
And then as soon as it's done, we're like, oh, relax.
And then everyone's like, any unfinished business?
And then all the colds that were waiting were like, hello.
So much of my time.
And so everything just, your body was like so focused on something.
It couldn't, you know, and then it just, everything just collapsed.
Yeah.
Because it was running on a short-term thing.
And it happens all the time.
Your body's constantly making decisions to protect itself, isn't it?
So that's why pain is fully created by the brain,
regardless of whether you have actual pain or you don't.
And that's why when somebody, for example,
If you twisted your ankle and then someone like chased after you with a gun, you wouldn't feel.
There's so many stories about people who didn't realize that, or athletes, that playing in the World Cup, who played on like a broken ankle.
Yeah, people who didn't realize they had hurt themselves until they saw it.
Oh, yeah, or until the danger is gone.
The adrenaline is no longer needed.
And then the pain floods in because it's like, then your brain goes, right, so what have we been dealing?
Quite a lot, actually.
We've been dealing with a lot.
What have I closed the door on?
Oh, it has to come in now.
Yeah.
Okay, so there are, I can't really count them, let's say nine, maybe eight points that I've got here, which are scientifically...
I prefer seven.
Okay, well, you can see which one you would get rid of.
No, you tell them to me and I'll choose.
Okay.
What, number one?
Number one, so smoking.
Smoking is bad for your immune system.
And I think with all, by the way, with all of these, these are very like, yeah, obviously, but I think while I'm saying them, just really think about whether you do those things.
like, so I'll do it with you. Don't smoke. I don't smoke, but I did for a long time.
And when I did smoke, I did get more cold. I got chest infections, obviously.
But recently claimed on air that you never had a cold.
Yeah, I got chest infections.
Oh.
When I, and I'm, we're talking like 18.
I understand. I'm now. Huh. Okay. Yeah. 53.
Eat a diet high in fruit and vegetables. Boring. That's what I often scream when I have a cold.
But I have a plant-based diet. That's, uh, you can be,
vegan and have a plant-based diet and also not be eating any plants like chips on plants
bread isn't plant like that sort of thing so you've got a load on and it's also more than you think
do we know do you know how we found out that like citrus was good for you that we needed vitamin
d no it was on a pirate ship so obviously it's my favorite fact and at time when everyone was just
like dropping dead of scurvy but everyone was just eating like oat cakes filled with maggots
yeah everyone was like well this is fine everyone was having like a hunk of cheese and an oat cake
and that was pirate life oh my god it was though that and robert
That's it.
That's it.
This is predating the time
when everyone was like,
the things that go in your body
will affect how your body works.
Everyone was like,
well, this is fine.
And then one ship,
they ran out of oat cakes
and they happened to have a whole bunch of lemons.
And the captain was like,
oh, fuck it.
I mean, you can't eat these,
but like lemons, I guess.
And then they just ate all those
and everyone's scurvy.
Vanished.
Clicking is difficult
just in terms of explaining.
But yeah.
It just,
it vanished away.
And it was an accident.
They had just run out of oat cakes.
God, that's so interesting.
I didn't know pirates at Oakcakes.
That's not what I'm taking from the story.
Like, Oakcakes feels like a very sort of, like, middle-class, like, mummy sort of thing.
And also me.
What if I call it like...
I know a lot of egg biscuit.
Do you prefer it now?
Yeah, a big old grit biscuit.
Yeah, I'll sound like.
Now we're feeling like a pirate.
Ah, my big old grip biscuit.
And you've got lemons.
Got any grip biscuits and lemons, please.
Lemons do feature quite heavily in our podcast.
Yeah, well, it's...
Oh, always. I love a lemon.
Right. Exercise regularly. Yes. But that could, that doesn't mean you have to go and do high intensity interval training or like ridiculous stuff. That literally can just mean, just you're walking around, just walk around every day. Make sure you're walking around. Walk up the escalator if you're in a city and you're using the tube. Get off one stop on the bus. Maybe you don't use a car. Have we talked about him before? Yes. Will we talk about him again? Yes. You're Dickin in the Secret Garden. God, I've answered him so much. He was seven. I was five.
Yeah, Dickon.
Dickon. The co-the-sexiest gardener there's ever been.
Was he a gardener?
Or was he just like a garden man, you know, a garden boy?
A scampy little boy.
He just lived in a ditch or something.
Yeah, where did he sleep?
What he's sleep?
In his pipe.
He had little rolled-up sleeves, eh?
He's like those little sleeves.
Oh, Dickon.
If you've not seen Secret Garden or read it, sorry about this.
But go on, I shan't apologize.
You must read it.
What's he got to do with exercising regularly?
Well, who's not exercising.
Dickon.
Gullen.
No, Dickon is exercising.
He's up.
He's moving.
He's running around the garden.
He is the image of health.
And who's not called it,
I'm frightened of spores.
I'm frightened into the spores.
Exactly.
He's trapped in the room.
There's no air.
There's no thing fresh coming in.
He doesn't get out.
He doesn't move about.
So of course it's just completely circular illness.
He doesn't do himself any favours.
And as soon as they start wheeling him about the garden,
so he feels excited and has some joy in his life and some fresh air.
And he starts moving his body.
Suddenly his body's like, oh, we remember how to move.
And so just anthropying away in the locked secret room.
Yes.
He's a very extreme.
example because I wouldn't say most illnesses can be you know cured by just going go outside in the
garden then you'll be all right but it's a very good allergy analogy it will definitely help because
your instinct is to like button down the hatches and have another lucasade and stay in bed but the more
that you can you know also like this isn't during the cold this is like in general so just in general
walk around more look this is not this is obvious this is during the cold I stand by it like
A walk.
Oh my God, yeah, absolutely.
It's in fresh air.
I would have stayed in bed all day today, and within five minutes of being outside,
I was like, yeah, I mean, I would prefer to be in bed, but I'd always prefer to be in bed.
I do feel better, having got out and about.
Maintain a healthy weight, sure.
I mean, I'm not going to delve into that, because it's a thorny topic.
But, I mean, like, I guess the healthy weight for you, you know what is healthy and what isn't.
And if you're not looking after yourself, then I guess you might get more colds.
If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation, boring, get adequate sleep.
Yes, fine.
and wash your hands frequently and cook meats thoroughly.
Didn't expect that, did you?
No, I did not.
Try to minimise stress.
So all of these ones are very irily,
but the reason I'm saying them
and the reason I wasn't just like, yeah,
all that they're all obvious,
is that there will be one that you're like,
oh, yes, I did get very drunk the other night.
Or like, do you know what I mean?
Like, you're like, oh, that is why I've got that cold.
Yeah, it's when you're always like,
because Stevie has decided that she's got this cold
on account of...
Reading about a new story.
No, I haven't.
I haven't been sleeping, I'm very stressed.
Yeah, yeah, but exactly.
And I think stress due to coronavirus.
viruses. But not too stressed because there's CBD oil.
No, exactly. So that's the thing.
I'm like, not anxious, but I am quite stressed.
I don't know what I'm. Yeah, absolutely. So she's
not feeling the, she's dealing with it,
but she's feeling it. Oh, I'm feeling it.
So you will get a cold,
you will get the cold, you know,
you'll get a cold, but what will happen is your body
will just fight it off if you are
across all of those bullet points. That's all I mean.
I mean, like, if you do those things, you will never get a cold
because that's not true. But you will get
colds less, you'll be able to fight them off
quicker. And that's kind of
of horrible feeling that you get just when you're about to get a cold
where you're kind of a little bit sweaty.
That's your body, that's like your body is engaged in warfare.
That's what's happened.
And all of that, like, heat is the energy being produced by all your cells
battling each other to try and top a cold.
Yeah.
The human body is phenomenal.
That's all my immune system business, by the way.
During battle season, get, when it's fighting.
Put your armor on.
Get, obviously, get the lemon in there.
Get hot water, honey and lemon.
Yes.
Get a lot of soups.
Get a lot.
of garlic.
Vegetable.
Garlic is very antibacterial.
Get that garlic in there.
Like, just eat as much as you possibly can.
You've got to eat many fruits and not just oranges.
You're going to use as many different types as possible.
But yeah, so I've been doing in terms of preventative, general, immune-based.
But please take us into the actual heat of battle.
Certainly.
Well, I think what I've written here is be a little nerd.
Okay.
It's a nerd twice in this episode.
You know how it's in the movies, for example.
classic trope might be someone who is like, has an antibacterial hand wash and is like,
oh, don't come near me. And, oh, you know, and we sort of laugh at that character.
But we don't like to do it because we're like, oh, I don't want to be, you know.
I don't want to be everything. I'm an anal like, oh, he's on my shop. And my instructions are,
be it. Yeah, anti-material handwash is so good. Yes. Especially when you're using public transport
or you are leaving your house. Yes. If you live in a city, you just need to, uh,
You just need to...
You've got to wash.
Guys, tip one.
Have a wash.
You've got to have a wash.
You've got to get on this bacterial hand wash.
You've got to be really soaping your hands.
You've got to be...
But also be prepared to, you know, not to come in to work.
We have a real, you know, ethos of like, I shall work until somebody sends me home because I'm...
That was my ethos.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
We don't want to be a wimp.
We don't want to look like we're slacking off.
We want someone else to say, like, oh my God, Steve, looks terrible.
Yeah.
Look at the back to her eyes.
that she may or may not have used and put like eyeshadow underneath so that she gets
sent home cooker.
Maybe.
Maybe.
You want to be like, oh my gosh, she looked awful.
Just take it and be like, I am working from home today or I am not coming in.
I am sick.
And the office attitude being like, only the healthy people come in here to this space.
That will help you because you won't be, because I think the added stress of knowing
you're not well and trying to like work.
You're not going to do a good job.
You're going to make mistakes.
And then that's going to be even more stressful.
And as we've learned stress is bad.
me in system. So you have to basically like look after yourself like you would a friend who was like
yes, I'll go into work today. But no. Like no. No. Bad. Stay at home. Get better. And be prepared to be
like maybe I don't go so much out to the cinema or do places where lots of people are or like,
you know, you, yeah, like take it seriously. Oh, in terms of when you've got a cold.
Right. So I thought you meant like just in general, just like never go to the cinema and get. No, I'm saying stay in your
home and never go out. No, I'm saying that you.
You are like, no, I'm sick.
I'm not going to go to the places.
And if you feel like it's happening and your immune system is weakened,
don't put yourself in those what we'll call a high-risk environment,
particularly going to the pictures.
It's when you're older theater,
whenever you're sat anywhere,
where suddenly everyone's coughing,
that you're like, a lot of coughing here in this place
where everyone's supposed to be totally silent, you know?
Yes.
And I think it's, oh, yeah, during the cold and flusies,
like this morning when I was on the way here,
and I was like, yeah, well, it's a shame that I've got coronavirus,
and I'll be the first UK case
and also haven't actually been to China.
And I also haven't left the house about three days.
So funny to be like, oh, it's a shame.
I'll be the first.
It is a shame that how will I like, how I PR?
What picture will they use of me in the newspaper when I'm ground patient zero?
So yeah, very important, yeah, to just kind of just keep away from those areas.
Yeah.
Look after yourself.
And in terms of the drinking loads of, everyone always says that, don't they?
I think it's like, drink loads of fluids.
You're like, why?
Drinking loads of water is so important because when you're dehydrated, that does put added stress on your body.
And your body is like then trying to work under dehydrated conditions.
so it's working in a very poor way.
So when you're dehydrated, you're more likely to get a cold,
you're less likely to fight it off.
So it's still incredibly important
because it just means that your body can focus on doing what it does best.
It's like trying to fight a battle,
but someone's also asking you to do some admin for them?
And you're like, no, I've got to focus on the battle.
And they're like, I'm going to excuse me.
It's more like you're fighting the battle,
but nobody is delivering the swords, the swords of the water.
And you're refusing, it's so easy to get those swords to the battlefield,
but you're just like, I just won't.
The swords are over there, but I can't be.
bothered. I kind of bothered and everyone's like, do bring us the swords. And they're all just
punching each other and that's not helping. It's in fist to fist combat on the battlefield out there.
That's not helping anybody. Your body is made up of, do you know how much water?
70%. Yeah. Great. It's actually 60, but I wanted you to feel good.
Oh, thanks. Yeah, we are made of water. So don't deny your body the thing it's made off for
God's sake. It can't do his job. Also, I'd like to pop in and say echinacea. You know that like
herbal extract echinacea. In our house,
home, family home.
Echinacea's a big deal.
Big deal.
And whenever you get the slightest sniffle,
there's Echinacea being put all over you.
You put like 15 drops into some water
and you drink it like three times a day, a taste of nothing.
And I wouldn't say it doesn't work.
So it's not really a tip.
It's more of a, well, try it.
It's nice.
Mum and dad say it works.
Drops of tea tree oil on your tissues
and get yourself the softest tissues you can for that red nose.
So I've got some foods that will have.
So we've gone through the cold. I think also when you have a cold, there isn't very much.
You can just have to let it pass and look after yourself as you have brought to the table.
And then when the cold is kind of waning like the moon, you can focus your diet around certain types of foods that are full of particular types of vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, zinc, magnesium.
And also calcium, which I wouldn't have thought of.
The recommended amount of vitamin C per day is between 75 milligrams for women and 90 milligrams.
for men. So you want your red bell peppers, Tessa.
Oh.
Because one pepper, bell pepper contains 190% of your daily vitamin C needs.
Oh, your shit.
Yeah. Whereas one medium orange, only 130%.
I'd still say that's good with over 100%.
But look, if you don't have an orange, eat a pepper.
You wouldn't think that would you.
You'd be like, well, don't have any oranges, so it's pointless.
I think the key, the key is colour.
A flash of colour.
Just a flash of colour.
Or a pop.
Just a pop of colour.
So get that bell pepper and get an orange, get the bright greens, get the leafy bright greens.
Leafy bright greens.
Also, peas.
Pop them peas in your bell pepper.
You could put a pee in your bell pepper.
No one would say, boom.
Is it on the traffic light colors?
Then it's, is it a traffic light?
Then it's all right.
That's the special model.
Or the nutritional advice is so you've got your bell pepper.
You've got your kiwi fruit, two medium, even one fruit is your daily vitamin C needs.
Green.
Passes my test.
That does pass past you just actually.
Then you're looking at zinc.
What the fuck are you going to?
How are I going to get any zinc in it?
I'll tell you, mate.
Do you mind it from the earth?
Oh, a broiled beef patty.
Of course.
An entire can of baked beans does have just under 40% of your daily zinc needs.
Hang on.
What's broiled beef?
Broiled beef patty.
I don't know.
What are you saying?
Broiled.
Broiled.
It's like boiled with an R before the O.
What does it mean?
Oh, it's like a way of cooking, I think.
How?
I don't know.
I'm not a cook.
Have you not heard of broiling?
Have you?
Yes.
You've had a broiled beef patty.
I haven't had a broiled beef patty, but I know I've heard of it before.
Let's have a look.
She's googling it with the way of being like, I'm going to show you that broiling doesn't exist.
All the instructions just say broil for eight minutes.
Yes, exactly.
And then broil again.
So what is broiling?
Broiling sounds like it's pretty much grilling.
That's what it sounds like broiling is.
What is broiling?
Broiling.
Cooking by exposing food to direct radiant heat.
What cooking?
Oh, right.
cooking. Either on a grill over live
gold or below a gas burner or an electric
coil. So that's just any cooking.
Wow, it's barbecuing. Well, it can be
but also it says, here, you can do it indoors
in your oven. And that is number
one, is it? For zinc?
Well, no, not really. It's harder to get zinc.
So cashews have zinc.
Bake beans have zinc. Beef
have zinc. Oosters have the most
zinc. So three ounces, I mean, that's a lot
of oysters maybe. It's 493%
of your daily zinc needs. I'd argue
with this article, just put
how much is 100% I don't need 400% of my zinc needs okay magnesium again very low levels
where could we get it though the baked beans zinc is in baked beans cashew nuts and broiled beef
and the oyster and the oyster so it's very important that you cook that beef before you eat it
and then oysters if anything got too much zinc in it yeah magnesium magnesium again quite
quite difficult to get almonds has magnesium in it boiled spinach half a cup of boiled spinach
has about 20% of your magnesium needs,
but everyone knows that like when you boil spinach,
it goes to nothing.
We're talking about if you put a bag of spinach
in some like pasta sauce or something,
they'll just be delicious and wilted and lovely,
and you will have got your magnesium.
Black beans have got loads,
a half a cup of that,
a full cup of black beans is 30% of your magnesium.
Smooth peanut butter, not crunchy?
Why?
I don't know.
Oh, sorry.
And then cubed avocado has some magnesium in it as well.
So those are foods that you should be looking
to eat when you're coming, like, to wrap that cold up, you know, to say, cold, that's a wrap on you.
That's a wrap there. The grandma's expression, and perhaps everyone's grandma, was feed a cold,
starve a fever. Yes. And it was never clear if the instruction was, you should feed a cold,
but you should starve a fever. Yes. Or if you fever, a feeder cold, you will starve a fever.
Okay, interesting. To mean, like, if you managed to get through this, if you stop this cold,
getting any worse, it will starve the fever. It will not allow the fever to happen.
Make it very clear, you shouldn't starve a fever. No. Or starve a cold. You should never starve
anything. No, exactly. But grandma thought it was... My grandma did as well. Feed a cold, but starve a
fever. Right. Yes, that's what my grandparents said. So if you were very feverish, that was the end of the
food for you because it was starve a fever. But actually, it wasn't that. It means starve off the fever
by eating so well during the cold process. Great. Well, but grandma, of course. All grandmas,
It was locked the door and there's no more food for you.
What a shame you can't eat because you're very hot.
That doesn't really make me sense.
So the thing was feed the cold.
Again, we're just getting those swords to the battlefield.
Like your body's going to do all this work for it, but you have to do, you have to be the valet.
Your body's butler, basically.
Your body's butler.
And one of the things that will help rebuild and repair your body tissue and fight off the cold as well is protein.
And you've got to see the protein as your swords.
you've got a chicken sword and that's what we've got to make in the battle.
If you don't eat meat, what kind of things can you meet for the protein?
You know, red lentil pasta, which is pasta made of red lentil flour,
which it tastes like normal pasta, and it's very expensive.
So don't use it.
I don't think it's something that you can probably get like all the time.
But if you've got a cold and you're like, I think I'm a protein and I'm fucking vegan,
this is going to be very difficult.
That's an option once to really get that cold off the ground, you know.
Black beans have got loads of protein in them.
Now there's lots of vegan corn.
So corn normally has egg in it, but now it doesn't.
Well, no, now lots of it doesn't.
So that's got lots of protein in it.
I'm going to recommend a burrito.
Yeah, have a burrito.
That's got your avocado.
That's got the beans.
That's got the cheese that every list so far has said.
Pop an oyster.
Pop an oyster in your burrito.
And you've got your zinc.
Yeah.
Unfortunately, dairy is out.
Oh, yeah, dairy is out.
Your body does not know what to do with that and doesn't like it.
Yeah, that is something as well, yeah.
You should avoid dairy.
The problem is, though, you don't want to like,
be avoiding foods that you're not used to avoiding
so you're not making good meat
like you're not having like good hearty meals if there's a bit of cheese
and something don't be like I can't have that because I've got a cold
do eat like do eat normally do eat it but do we eat good
attempt to stay away from it essentially we're just telling you to like
just look after yourself when you've got a cold
there's nothing you can do that is what we're saying
but it's not just look because we're like yeah yeah what does that mean
but you like now we're giving you the clear instructions to be like
eat oysters eat the oysters and a pepper full of peas
and don't go to the peas were not meant
Pictures. I also know that hot, if you are struggling to eat, they're like a hot, a soup is ideal, like a hot liquid thing, that your body doesn't have to do any, again, you're just trying to take away all of the other, exactly like you said, you're fighting a battle and someone's like, can you work on this admin? You're like, I've got shit to do. I haven't got any fucking swords and, you know, I haven't got time for this admin.
Yeah. So you're saying like, do you want to chop this sandwich down? Everyone's like, no. Just give it to me in soup form. Yes.
Like, oh, why don't you blend the sandwich in a smoothie maker and then have a soup sandwich?
Perfect. Get that broiled beef patty into the smoothie maker and you're off.
Just some hot tips from ours hot nutritional content.
Yeah, just like the hotter and the more liquidy it is, the better.
But also, just be nice to yourself.
Be nice yourself when you've got a cold and I'm sorry you've got a cold.
And if you know anyone who's got a cold, send it to them and be like, this will help.
I think it's helped me.
I feel better.
Wow, so just listening to this has cured our colds.
And you don't have coronavirus anymore.
One more.
No, Tess has got one more.
Gums.
Okay.
That is what, truly, that is what, the opera singers swear by.
For sore throats and croaky voices, I stand by it.
Okay, nope, I think that was a good tip to end on.
Wine gums, opera singers swear by it.
Chewing a wine gum loads of times.
It doesn't do with a cold, but it will help your voice when you're singing.
When you're going to hit those high notes.
You're going to hit those high notes.
No, when your throat feels absolutely wretched, wine gum is honestly...
I've got a bad throat now.
Honestly, try a wine gum and see how you feel because you'll chew it loads and they'll be like,
Oh wow, that has felt like it's like liquidy goodness.

Don't go to work.
All the cinema.
And feel happy just to tell that person at work to go home.
Oh, yes. Be that person's dream and send them home.
Oh my God, send that person home that looks like shit.
Don't wait until the crack out the clear eye shadow and realize trick.
Just send them home.
Yeah, send them home.
