True Story Media. Sometimes, after we wrap up a season of Nobody Should Believe Me, we realize that there are still some threads we want to pull on, as in the case of Dr. John Cox. A plea deal today in the case of a Milwaukee area doctor accused of intentionally hurting his daughter. Dr. John Cox pleaded no contest today to child neglect. In our first ever, Nobody Should Believe Me special report, we're asking, what happens when a doctor is investigating?

by his own hospital system. I work in an ER. I know when kids are abused, but you guys have this completely wrong. And what happens when the media ignores the evidence? He performs a physical evaluation of the child, and everything that he's seeing in that physical evaluation tells him that this child needs to be evaluated for physical abuse. And when the court of public opinion seems to matter more than the case itself.

This story is part of a larger series of reports I've done about the work of child abuse medical specialists. And there have been concerns that when mistakes happen or when these physicians overstate the evidence, which can happen in any field of medicine, that law enforcement and CPS no longer are listening to other evidence. If you're going to really think about a value in any case like this, you really need to look at the entire clinical scenario

and how many sort of improbable or nearly implausible things have to line up before you say that clinically this doesn't make it. And who pays the price when the media gets it wrong? They knew about the divide that existed between the emergency room physicians and the Capps team as a result of the Cox case, and that led to a breakdown in communication in the hospital.
