This is a headgum podcast.
Welcome to the campaign after the campaign.
This is not another D&D podcast.
Welcome back to Skaldova, everybody.
Skoldova.
There it is.
Caldow's grabbing his throat and wiggling it like a turkey.
Do you like that modulation?
And I appreciated it.
The listeners at home did too.
Is that what singers are always doing?
Yeah, you always see them grabbing their throats and shaking while they're singing.
Go to any concert.
You'll see him just wiggling.
Yeah. Go to a church.
I'm your dungeon master, Jake Hurwitz, here with Brian Murphy.
Making a stink about falling in the drink, Zodrick of the murder.
Oof, rust.
Emily Axford.
Warily, though merrily, entertaining heresy.
It's Wellie Hamdam.
Sir, welly hamdam.
And of course, we've got Caldwell Tanner.
Oh, if you find a coin that's smelly and hairy, then you've had a visit from the boggy fairy.
Hello, Boggy Roger.
There you go.
Well-met, friend.
A coin that's smelling a good.
Give it a sniff, that's how you know.
But before Boggy gets under your pillow, how about a little recap?
Let's do it.
If we must.
Last time, our three reluctant landowners arrived in the lakelands to claim their new home,
quickly renaming Fort Delathorn, Bog two, Big Boggin.
Just outside your new keep in a small village called Dun Glen,
you met a tavern owner named Hoddle and learned something horrifying.
You had employees.
The hirelings of Bogtu were under your protection, and worse, a lake troll had recently displaced them.
You then convinced a rag-tag crew led by the armorer's son, Decky, to stand down and let you handle the villain after hearing him emit a cursed Dean scream.
Before heading out, you visited the wounded steward, Mrs. Divitt, easing her troubled spirit and helping her begin to recover, when finally you began your way down to the shore and confronted the monster in the old boathouse.
Zudrick launched into the beast with his lance
Wellie grappled it and dragged it out onto the beach
and Boggy bravely fled the scene
strategically fled I would say
You defeated the murderous troll
claimed your bastion and officially became homeowners
And that is where we are now
Alright wow
Should we shout for everyone to come back
Was there a signal for Decky?
Let's go to bed
Really well
Yeah I don't hate that idea
Because it might be nice to like see the place
the place without everyone?
Ah, yes. Also, there's a lot of, like, troll...
Dung? Dung.
Yeah. Shoeuvred it on the walls.
The troll did shit out all of the people that he ate.
I feel like it would be kind of us to make sure that people didn't come and see the excrement
of their loved ones.
Should we give it a once over then?
Yeah.
Very well, yes.
Let's do a tour.
Okay, great.
Yeah.
Yeah, let's do a tour.
All right.
So with the troll slain, you guys have a chance now.
to see what you inherited.
Wait, really quickly.
I feel like I'm getting this from Boggy,
and maybe this is really foul of me,
and maybe my soul is coming undone.
What the hell are you about to say?
Should we loot the troll's corpse?
Yeah, of course.
Yes, very wise.
It could have stolen something that we can steal back
and then steal for our own, a triple steal.
I mean, it was just fucking eating people
and living in the river.
I don't think it's going to have, like, cool shit.
Oh, but I was thinking, like,
what if it's pancreas is a deli?
delicacy in God's port.
Okay.
Wow.
Well, are you thinking like a bud now?
The bud is beginning to bloom.
Ha-ha!
Um, okay.
There's no shortage
the amount of oils that a troll could possess.
So you don't mean loot it.
You mean like,
gut it.
Harvest it.
Yeah.
I'm going to do maybe,
would it be a history check
or like some kind of like
culture check to know?
Yeah, to just like gut a humanoid
and eat it.
To know if they consume Lake Troll anywhere.
It's like the, you know, the gills of a lake troll, you know.
If it's a gill-based animal, then probably it's got some serious oils that it's emitting.
Yeah.
Yeah, it can be a wisdom check.
A wisdom check?
This can't be good for you.
You saw the way its arm was flopping around.
Because I think you would use wisdom more than intelligence.
I like that.
Do you see the blubber deposits on that thing, man?
We could be rich.
Our braziers could burn bright for weeks.
That's it.
What?
So you think this.
Troll is insanely valuable.
Quick wily, root through the dome.
Troll oil keeps Scaldova running.
We need to harvest every bodily function that comes out of this thing.
We are rich with troil.
Troll oil.
That's only export.
Fuck the peaches.
I spend my entire night stripping this troll of anything that looks valuable, which on a
not one is everything.
Yeah.
This troll is mostly nude covered in like lake kelp.
I think I described its skin as translucent.
I'll use the lake kelp to like wrap up all of its organs.
Okay.
Give me a survival check to harvest all the troll's organs.
12.
That's actually not bad.
You fillet this troll like a river trout like you've learned at the oaken ore.
Well, you're going to want to do.
You know this already.
Keep the organs in the water to cool them until we can take them to the
apothecary in the morning. So, Andre just goes to the kitchen and sees if they have like bread.
But this isn't for us to eat. This is for us to barter for knowledge with in God's port.
I walk past my compatriots and walk through the bastion. As you do, I turn to Boggy and say,
I'm worried about him while my hands are filled with troll blood. I'm just like I'm pulling on
intestines like rope. I'm saying, perhaps they don't get trolls up in the far away of
Lucky them.
All right, so I'll say you guys basically use all of the items that they have in the boathouse.
Like, they use this boathouse for fishing out on the lake.
So they've got knives, grappling hooks, ropes.
You guys fillet this troll, cut open all of its organs.
You hang everything over the fire.
Christ.
As Zudrick ascends the stairs and I'll give you a lay of the land.
This is what you've just inherited.
What was once Fort Delathorn is a lakeside keep hemmed in by a stone curtain wall on one side and lake imaging on the other.
Inside the walls, you find a cobbled courtyard, which is surrounded by the buildings that keep the place running.
A gatehouse and barracks near the entrance, with stables and workshops running along the stone.
Across the courtyard, Zudrick, you find a ransacked kitchen and what remains of a greenhouse, now a mess of bent iron and shattered glass.
Oh, geez.
Zudrick gets out a really small dust fan and starts trying to clean up.
Oh.
Oh.
Troll didn't have a green thumb, I suppose.
Just muttering to himself.
After you guys are done gutting the troll, you see Sudrick so pissed off with a dust bin.
Wearing a little apron.
Yeah.
Oh my.
A chain mail apron?
This is the unclamorous stuff they don't tell you about castle ownership.
Yes.
So as you dust the cook shop, you also see the main tower standing at the head of the lake.
Two lower wings extend from either side, and above them rises a broad circular tower of weathered stone.
It's crenellated crown visible from the lake.
far across the water. So crinolated. It's crin to the gills, man. You can go anywhere. You can go inside,
outside, upstairs. And I'll also say, Zudrick, you can use one of your birds or raise a flag on
the battlements basically to send word to Dunglan that the keep is safe and the residents can come home.
Ooh. Great. Well, you know, I want to get a lay of the land first before we call anybody in.
Again, I kind of feel like my compatriots here. I don't want to have anyone over while it's still
such a freaking mess. Yes, we can raise the flag tomorrow more.
Yeah, you would imagine if they see the flag, they're going to come in the morning.
They're not going to, like, rush down right now.
It's a couple hours ride.
Well, first we must make our flag.
What is our unified sigil friends?
What about a broken compass?
My, oh, my.
That speaks to me.
Because we're taking sort of the rules and orders and realizing that the system is broken.
Oh, that's interesting.
You see, Zudrick starts whispering to a bunch of his crows, and then he turns back and he goes,
this isn't my idea.
But what if it was like a crow was on it too?
And it was like the crow was bringing the broken compass.
Like it was giving us a trinket.
Yeah, I love that.
Do you have anything you want to add?
Oh, chevrons.
Chevrons.
Got to have some chevrons in there.
Okay.
I stole in a lot of baron's flags and they've always got chevrons.
Okay.
And maybe there's just one weaveron on there.
Oh, fancy.
This is getting complicated.
I almost regret the crow.
No, no, no, no.
We'll keep it simple.
We'll keep it simple.
A crow bringing someone a broken compass
and a ton of chevrons.
Wait, can I ask?
Just like way too many chevrons.
You're thinking about an amount?
Double it.
Okay.
Can I add, what is a chevron?
Boggy draws it in the dirt.
It's just like a little V shape.
Oh, okay.
Yeah.
So we'll do chevrons sort of in the background
and crow carrying a compass.
That's pretty cool.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay, so it's a chevron field with a crow carrying a compass.
What are the colors?
Oh, Christ.
Well, crows are black, compasses are gold.
Yes, and...
Black and gold.
And Zudrick is mostly red.
Yeah, black gold, red, that's cool.
That's sick as hell, honestly.
That's honestly really cool.
Do you think that anyone will have sort of an instinctual fear of it?
It's true. We should soften it a bit.
Wait, I want them to fear it, right?
Okay.
It should be fearful, but welcome.
But why do we need to welcome people?
Like a grinning skull.
Oh, okay.
I was confused until you clarified.
Maybe let's just put a grinning skull on there.
Wait, there's too much stuff.
All right, you're right.
Guys are getting crowded.
But what if the crow sitting on a grinning skull?
Okay, that's...
Hecking at a broken compass.
Okay.
Fine.
Are you willing to part with the chevrons to put a grinning skull on there?
I'm afraid I have to put my foot down.
Chevrons are absolutely necessary.
The chevrons are just in the background.
Okay, yeah, good.
Maybe you just need to pop of welcoming color.
Well, Wally, what's the most inviting color you can think of?
How many more colors do you guys want to put on there?
Well, the most inviting color I can think of are the colors of the river.
Mm.
So sort of a murky blue is one of my favorite colors.
Perhaps a strip of murky blue.
With spots of algae.
Spots of algae.
You're getting all this, O'Drick.
No.
And maybe, and since the compass is broken, it'd be sort of a tarny.
finished brass.
Very nice.
Yes.
Yeah.
I see it now.
So this is just, the colors are all over the place.
And I feel like we should just pick three.
Black, yellow, blue.
No.
Can we just maybe table the color conversation and just do sort of a black and white flag that we
promise the residents will be filled in in due time?
I like black and white.
Oh, that's nice.
Like a coloring book.
Yeah.
like a coloring book.
Sure.
There's got to be some sort of tailor
or perhaps a seamstress
that could aid us
with the crafting of this flag.
Yeah.
But for now you need to raise
something on the battlemen,
so give me a slight of hand check
to craft this flag
that you've been describing.
That is going to be a 22.
This crowded flag actually,
it all works.
It's like organized chaos.
There is the Chevron field
with the grinning skull
and the broken compass
and the crow.
The crow is sitting on the grinning skull.
Right, a crow atop a grinning skull with a compass.
That's not that crazy.
It felt empty without it, honestly.
You know, now that I'm thinking about it,
crows are black,
but we could also make the crow sort of a deep purple
so that it made more sense with the murky blues.
Ooh, a mysterious purple.
Much like the magics we saw in the keep.
Yeah.
Very good.
Again, we're not committing to anything, Zudrick.
We're not committing to anything.
It's a first draft.
It's a first draft.
Yeah. Right now it's a black and white flag. It goes up the battlements and back up at Dunn, Glenn.
Hoddle, keeping an eye on the keep, sees it and alerts all of the villagers and the hirelings that their home has been saved.
And they're going to pack up in the morning and head down. You have the entire night to get the lay of the land and claim the rooms inside this bastion as your own.
Is there anything in the armory? I'd love an upgrade because I'm wearing, I know I've got like a lot of armor on, but it's pretty mismatched.
And I would love to try to find some plate mail or something if I could.
Mm.
Okay.
So Zedric, you cross the courtyard, the cobblestones under your feet, and you make your way to the gatehouse, the barracks, and the armory.
The armory sits just off the guard room behind a heavy wooden door.
Racks line the walls for swords, spears, crossbows, shields, and armor.
Many are now empty, safer training gear.
And open crates of stones and barrels of sand remain stacked along the walls.
Dibs on the sand.
Oh, good, sand.
What?
I didn't even know I wanted it, but now I do.
Zudrick kicks the barrel.
But Zudrick, actually, you remember in the Great Hall where there were all of the dead bodies,
there was armor with half-eaten corpses inside.
Oh, great.
Those guys aren't using that armor.
I went over and looked if there's anybody my size.
This seems like a double standard, right, Willie?
Yeah.
It was so weird that I harvested.
The trolls, organs.
just sell at an adiosyncratic scholars, boys.
You don't see the difference.
I have like a scraper,
and I'm scraping someone's brain out of the arm and trying it on.
You don't see a difference here?
Okay, this would be like me being like,
oh, this guy's freaking goo.
I want to suck on it.
I don't want that.
I want his helmet.
I didn't suck on any of it.
I merely set aside most of its organs
in case any of them are valuable
and perfume-making.
Okay, that would be like if I scrape this guy up and I kept his stuff in a jar.
No, no, I don't want to do that.
You and I brought heads.
You have to mummify him first before you do that.
At least two years.
You guys are interested in the wrong part, okay?
It's all gross.
I agree with that.
But you're interested in the wrong part, okay?
And the fact that you don't see that that's different, he's honestly a red flag.
I just feel like ever since we inherited this house, we've been at each other's throats.
You're right, you're right.
Sertia comes back to scraping a man.
out of his arm.
Zudder's having this argument holding a dustpan in one hand and an empty helmet and the other.
You haphazardly like toss somebody's hand into the fireplace.
Give me an investigation check with advantage.
This room is totally still.
Okay.
18.
Amazing.
This is where the garrison made its last stand.
It's best fighters fought bravely against the troll and lost and crumpled near the giant stone hearth big enough to stand in.
you find a half-devoured corpse underneath a large breastplate.
This looks like it would fit you.
Whoa, sweet. Okay.
Actually, while we're here, can I go through?
And I'm not looting these corpses, but I want to look at these corpses for jewelry that their loved ones might recognize so that we can sort of return it back and give everyone some sense of peace and closure.
Wow.
All right.
Yeah, give me an investigation check with advantage.
First one is a nat one.
second one is a nine, becomes an 11.
Okay, you look at these corpses.
You're almost overwhelmed at first because there's so many like different body parts.
You can't even tell who is who, just limbs and half-eaten bodies.
You're almost overwhelmed and almost wretch.
You don't even want to look at it, even though you did just carve a troll.
This is so much nastier than troll guns.
With an 11, you find some identifying items like a breastplate carved with initials or,
A bracer with like a little sailboat emblem.
Yeah.
And you also find a small locket.
A locket.
Okay.
Well, it's probably not ours to look inside.
So I will stifle my curiosity and set these aside to return to the villagers.
Right.
Just stifle your curiosity all the way to the fire that we melted down in to turn into an ingot.
No, no, no, Bogi.
This is to give people closure.
Oh.
Yeah, so that they can have one last piece of their loved one that they lost.
Okay.
So we take the chain and we melt that down and you leave the locket.
I could be persuaded, sure.
I'll leave it up to you.
Your heart's in the right place.
Can I make a separate investigation check to see if I find anything?
Sure.
Nat 20.
Wow.
I say to Willie, you know what?
You're right.
Keep the chain.
It is a keepsake after all.
And memories are the most precious treasure.
And then I like out of the corner of my eye see something glinting and it just sprinted towards it.
Okay, Boggy, as you're arguing with Wellie,
something catches your eye against the hearth, you go over to inspect it and roll a D-100.
With a kick in my step, I walk over and I see 99.
Fucking hell.
Whoa.
99.
That's got to be a good one.
A wish spell?
Probably a wish spell.
Maybe a foldable boat, foldable boat.
Foldable boat.
Well, I know what we're doing with our wish spell.
Yeah.
Two foldable boats.
99.
You find a pair of silver gauntlets sitting below the fireplace, almost glowing in the torchlight.
Oh.
So, Boggy, you look inside the silver.
The silver is valuable to you because you are boggy and you like shiny things.
But it's actually what's inside this silver.
There is a woven wrapping.
These are the wraps of unarmed power.
Ha, ha.
Pips of unarmed power.
While wearing these wraps, you have a bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls made with your unarmed.
armed strikes. The bonus is determined by the rap's rarity, and those strikes deal your choice
of force damage or their normal damage type. Whoa. Boggy sees these and flashes back to a time at the
bog when they would just have day-long wrestling tournaments, just like massive fisticuffs,
tourneys, and bouts where they would just wrestle in the mud until they were too tired to move.
Mud wrestling. And he remembers losing a tooth to a punch from Longest Tom and just plugging it up
with a big, thick roll of tobacco
and just laughing himself to sleep
and he puts these on and says,
who wants to go? Who wants a go?
Boggy's got the silver and he's going to keep it.
I'll do it.
Dudrick hits him with his sword.
All right, go ahead, make an attack roll against Boggy.
Yeah.
That's a 26.
Okay, definitely hits.
Big Boggy catches the sword with his wrappings
but still just gets pummeled.
13 damage.
I'm going to actually activate might of the gods and do a single-leg take down against Boggy.
Great community tackle.
Boggy stands up and looks at Zedrican says,
Not very sporting, cranky.
And as that's happening, well, he just runs at him.
That's a 24.
I think you get to do contested.
Just tackling him so hard, his knees go inside out.
After being struck with the broad side of his sword.
So Zudrick waxed boggy with the flat of his sword for 13 damage.
Boggy comes up dazed and offers a quip for Zudrik only to be leg swept by Wellie,
flying in the air, cracking his neck.
How much damage do you do to it?
I don't, I know.
I'm just basically trying to like shove attack you to get you to the ground.
So you can roll contested.
Okay, great.
So you roll athletics.
I got a 24.
Okay.
This is just my normal athletics.
This is nothing.
I don't add anything to this.
Not with these gloves.
This is a 19, though.
Doesn't pass.
That doesn't win.
Respectable, but actually not even close.
And then I'm going to try to grapple him to the ground.
That's a 19.
Don't call me clenky.
I crack him in the head.
Boggy says,
Ha-ha, it's all in good fun.
And then so quietly under his breath says,
Uncle, Uncle, I yield.
Okay, okay, okay, I get off.
I get off.
Please, well, get up.
Zedrick's storage's staff.
into exactly where your head just was.
Bog two is tearing you guys apart.
You haven't even gone to choose your bedrooms yet.
Load stars, come, man.
Boggy whispers, I yield through fake laughs.
And you guys have found three different items here,
something valuable for Boggy, something useful for Zudrick,
and something sensitive for Wellie,
something to offer the loved ones of the fallen comfort in their grief.
Great.
Great.
Yeah, we'll clean up around here so people who want to see like the body parts and everything.
Yeah.
And then I also wanted to go to, did you mention there was a broken down greenhouse?
Yes, there was a broken down greenhouse.
Okay, so I would like to go.
And from the wreckage of that greenhouse, I would like to construct a terrarium for William Schitts.
So that when he comes home, he also feels like he's home.
Beautiful.
Okay.
So Wellie goes, crosses the courtyard to.
the cookhouse and the greenhouse. The greenhouse is easily accessible because all the glass
has been shattered by the troll. Like the herbs and garden beds are littered with shards of glass.
Disrespectful. And you can use this glass and the iron to kind of construct a terrarium if you want.
And Boggy, I was wondering if you would tell me a bit about William Schitt so that I could
decorate his terrarium accordingly. What did he love in life?
Ah, well, you know, he was a disgraced nobleman. He came from a fine family.
The family shits?
Indeed.
They were part of the High Lord's
Worshiful Company of Latrinemen.
Oh, okay.
Oh, that makes sense, actually.
Yes, indeed. They handled all of the refuse in town.
It is an ignoble job, but still worthy of accolades.
Wait, is shit named after them?
We, really?
That's incredible.
Precisely, yes.
Wow.
William Schitts, what stock you come from.
His name predates.
the slang.
Okay, so I guess I'll also try to make a little toilet in there for him.
How do you want to make a toilet?
I don't want to make a toilet.
Yeah, what do you mean by that, Willie?
I had more to say about him.
No, I can work with what you said.
I'm hoping that.
I'm wondering if from like the...
Mastery of the blade was bar none.
I'm good. I'm good.
I'm wondering it from like the crumbled granite of statue.
or porcelain.
Go on.
Yeah, no, we're good.
Maybe some, like, broken porcelain from statues that have been slaughtered.
Yeah, and this is like an herb garden.
So there's going to be, like, some terracotta pots, some porcelain and crockery in the cookhouse.
And if I need to tap into my troll guts for some sort of adhesive, I will do that.
Even though I know it's very expensive stuff.
It's a fine toilet.
Okay.
And I'll say you're doing all of this next to you like the cookshop wall privy.
So you're making the toilet right next to the toilet.
Yeah.
So you can use some of the existing infrastructure.
It's just more of like an onsuit to the terrarium.
Okay.
So I make a miniature toilet, but then I put like a life size handle onto it.
Okay.
Give me a sleet of hand check to construct the toilet.
I do this with advantage because of my lodestar room.
17.
Wow.
Okay.
The stars shine above that great northern star.
glinting off the broken glass and the lodestar guides your hand.
I think me on this one.
The wayward God who left this land looked back just once and saw its residence
still toiling away.
I sense the divine in this commode.
And you construct a miraculously working toilet here in the greenhouse among the garden.
Right, but no, but more importantly, it's a little terrarium that William Schitts can come
to be home also.
Yeah, the 17 will apply to the whole shebang,
the terrarium and toilet.
Let's make a little mini banner
of the banner that we have.
Wouldn't that be cute?
Yeah, and then I think we should all take turns.
We swap and we each make a miniature of each other.
I'll make the miniature of Zudrick.
I've got some ideas.
What kind of ideas do you have?
All right, well, I'll do my best.
Cool, there's a workshop across the courtyard from here.
We're going to make action figures all night.
You haven't gone into the keep aside from the Great Room yet.
We'll make a start.
I don't know.
Whittle a figure?
Well, then I guess Boxie's going to look like crud.
Oh, well, I'm using canvas sack for mine and filling it with hay.
Oh, my gosh.
Saltus, perhaps.
Maybe that sand can come into play here.
I try to get my crows to help.
I try to get them to send to find trinkets to build a boggy out of.
Oh, that's really smart.
So they go and they scavenge little, like, shiny bits.
Blackfeather bees.
Beard.
Yeah.
Okay.
And you guys, I'll say you set up kneeling outside this workshop.
There's like a rambling collection of low structures continuing along the back wall beside the stables.
There's a smithy built around a broad stone forge with anvils, hammers, tongs, and shoehorses.
And next door, sawdust lines the stone floor of a carpenter's workshop.
It smells a fresh cut pine and its benches are crowded with hand tools and half-finished repairs.
So you guys are using some of these tools, lumber.
to make minis.
Yeah, yeah.
I'll say it's 2 a.m. now.
Of course, yeah.
I'm so freaking tired.
I can't believe we're making minis right now.
Everybody give me a slight of hand check to construct a mini.
And I guess tell me what you're doing.
I got a 19 and I think that I've sort of used my ruin carving abilities to take like a bit of discarded armor to sort of hammer into a little zudric.
And then I also hammer in a little crow that he's holding hands with.
And I write Tabitha on it.
Really cute.
Great.
Yeah.
You do exactly that with the 19.
Zudrick, you palm this thing and it's beautiful.
It looks like you.
You're going to go in the terrarium.
You can tell that Zudrick likes it because he doesn't say much.
You just looks at and goes like, thanks.
It's actually for the terrarium.
Oh, okay.
So that William Schitts doesn't miss us.
Oh, shit, we lost it.
Oh, there it is.
The fireflies lit it up.
Shit, okay.
Yeah, I put it in the terrarium carefully.
I got a five.
Who were you trying to make wellie or boggy?
I'm trying to make boggy.
Well, let's see it.
It looks like a potato made of wood.
And then I've nailed a bunch of crow feathers to make a beard.
And then I hand it to you.
It's like Mr. Potato Head, but Mr. Boggy Head.
Yeah, and with a five, the crows have already started kind of pecking at the potato.
They think it's a real potato.
It's coming apart.
Such a...
An action figure that you can eat if you're hungry.
Well, it's wood.
It's not actually...
Boggy bites into it thinking it's a potato thing.
Convinced the crows.
Boggy, no, that's the tooth that you lost in your grappling.
Well, you probably shouldn't have tobacco.
shoved in your gums for 10 years anyway.
Fair, fair point.
Boggy, what do you get?
I'm going to roll so bad when we have combat, because I got a 25.
Yes!
Oh my God.
Incredible.
And you made Wellie, right?
Yeah, I think I make a, like, studio-lika level replica of Wellie.
It is uncanny how good it is.
I think I, like, take some of the extra porcelain from the privy, and I, like, paint a tiny
wellie face on it, and then I take some scraps of silk from the, like, you know,
the tapestries that have been ripped.
And I make that into her, like, cap and, like, her, like, frillier elements of her tabbord.
And then, yeah, I give her, like, a little, like, sword made of a nail or something like that.
Incredible.
So, like, ages of you sitting in the woods around campfires with your friends, crafting during downtime as you're waiting for travelers to raid.
Well, he hands you this figure of you.
And with a score that high, it looks like you, but it's stronger and it's bigger.
It looks like the way Boggy sees you.
It looks like the way he's seen you in battle.
Baggy, this is more me than me.
Do you want me to stay in the terrarium and you can journey with this?
This is simply the way the light falls upon you, Well, let's put it to the real test.
I take out William Schitts and show him the tiny Wellie.
Okay.
William Schitts comes out of your pocket.
He says, Reddit.
He looks at it.
at the statue, he looks at you and
he nods. William Schitts agrees.
This is accurate.
Holy shit.
High praise.
Hi, praise.
I guess I'm going to put
all three of these figurines and
William Schitts into their terrarium.
We'll also put some amethyst
and any sort of gemstones we can put in there as well.
Great.
We'll kind of have like a rock tumbling farm in there
as he just kind of like grinds on them.
Okay, you guys construct this little
diorama.
Sundrick goes to bed.
It is for 3 a.m. man.
I probably should have focused on my bedroom.
And Sundrick slumps their shoulders, tired, exhausted, and walks towards the keep.
I'll give you a lay of the land in here, too.
The ground floor features an expansive great hall, which you guys have already been through.
There's a big table in there, currently broken in the large hearth.
Behind all of that, on either side of the hearth, there's two big doorways that extend to further wings on the lower level.
Those are guest quarters and boarding rooms for the workers.
A masonry staircase at the back winds to the floors above.
Up there you find a wood-paneled library, shelves neatly packed,
and there's a generous privy and a small study overlooking the courtyard
with a burly desk of supplies for correspondence.
And since you're going to bed, I'll say that higher up in the tower are the private chambers.
Several comfortable bedrooms branched from a wide central hall,
each with its own fireplace and woven rugs.
One contains a massive wardrobe and a four-post canopy bed
with a sweeping bank of windows overlooking the big sister.
Another faces west toward the hills.
A hulking copper wash basin sits in the corner.
And on the eastern side, you find a modest chamber
with a large stone balcony overlooking the mountains.
Whoa, I want the one with the stone balcony
so my birds can go freaking wild.
I send them off into the mountains.
You know, I don't need much.
I just need a corner in Suu,
I get nervous at night.
What?
I get nervous at night.
It's true. I'm used to sleeping with my compatriots nearby,
so I'll just drag a little mud up to Zudrick's room and sleep on that.
Okay.
Just feels like there's three rooms.
Yes, for storage and whatnot.
Okay.
So Zudrick claims the smallest room, and Wellie and Boggy join him.
Maybe we could move the copper basin into your room.
Oh.
Let's try and drag the...
copper basin.
Okay, yeah, we drag the copper basin.
And when we say drag, we mean drag.
Yeah.
Give me an athletics check.
Oh, I'll help him with that.
Oh, yeah, they go.
Nat 20.
I got a 15.
Awesome.
With a 15, you go to help Wellie, but she's already dragged it into the room.
She's smashing it against the doorcase.
It scrapes down the halls.
It's perfect copper hull is just grinding against the stone.
This copper basin, it would be perfect for mashing some peaches into to make a little
the cool.
Zudrick shrugs.
I don't know, man.
I'll get right to it.
I'm in bed.
I'm in bed still in full armor.
Sondick climbs into the small bed,
still in his full armor as your crows
thunder out into the night,
circling the keep,
far overhead above the old watchtower.
There's open air windows and the battlements above
and far down below.
I'll just give you the final lay of the land.
There's a root cellar with barrels and provisions
and behind a double-locked
the Duke's wine collection.
All of that you can explore in the morning
as you guys settle in
and go to sleep in the smallest room in the house.

And let me know when the Laundra Munch opens.
Bye-bye.
Since we went to bed at like three, I hope no one shows up until like 11.
Should we raise a flag that says don't show until 11?
Let's just put do not disturb on the door.
A do not disturb flag.
We're going to swap out for do not disturb on the door.
You guys put the do not disturb flag up.
The residents of Bog 2 will come down a little bit later.
Yes, great.
Your mastery of semaphore is impressive, Willie.
Yes, yeah.
It's definitely something that you learn in night.
courses. I imagine for signaling down river. Yeah, and on the battle. Are you guys ever going to go to bed?
I'm just, I'm just so, I'm just all laying in the dark. I'm having a hard time sleeping. It's true. What a
thrilling day we've had, what a thrilling week. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. But like, sleep is important.
Yeah, everything must have balance. He is a, a man who has known many battles. And if he
suggest that we sleep, then I think it is wise.
Willie is snoring.
No reason to talk about it.
Boggy is saying this as he pours peaches into the bathtub.
Hey, chilly, chilly, tilly, tilly, ho.
Hey, chilly, Willie, Willie, Billy, Ringho.
Wellie is obliviously snoring.
She's sleeping through this.
Okay.
Furious.
He's in full armor staring straight up as Boggy sings to himself.
Hey, wing, chili, tilly, ring ho, pouring peaches that are just
echoing off the bathtub as Wellie snores horrendously.
In the bathtub, it didn't have to be in here.
Off to the oot for a nip, we go.
Zedric, Boggy, and Wellie all eventually fall asleep.
The residents wait a respectful amount of time.
You guys get a full eight for the first time in a fortnight.
Wow.
And you wake the next morning to a chorus of voices
and you hear the clunking of wagon wheels over your stone bridge.
You go to peer out the window and you see the caravan returning,
a cheerful mass of.
people coming back to the keep.
Young children skip through the grass.
A shepherd chases a rogue goat out in the pasture.
Decky charges down the road on a horse he can't control,
bouncing hard in the saddle as his helmet comes loose from his head.
Victory!
Victory!
Yes, sir, Decky!
Among all of the merriment, you also spot Mrs. Divid,
reclining at the head of a wagon.
She's laying back, still recovering from her injuries, but she looks alert.
She glances up at the window.
towards the keep and the light catching off the window as you guys open it.
Removing her bonnet, she calls out,
three cheers for the new lords.
Hi, hip, hooray!
Hip-hip, hooray!
Hip-hip, hooray!
Yeah, we haven't had our coffee yet, so everyone relax.
Everybody is at the gates.
You guys are just waking out.
Oh, my God.
It's just instant.
I'm kicking the doors open.
I'm letting everyone in.
I'm passing out their loved ones effects.
I'm breaking into the wine.
Yeah.
Passing that out.
Not partaking myself because I'm not really a morning wine person, but I know most people are.
Judrick is like the roommate of someone having a party and it's just like loudly clanging around making coffee and like trying to make himself scarce.
Boggy has found a Dr. Seuss-esque horn and is just blowing it loudly.
It is freaking the birds out.
They're cawing so much.
And Zudrick's so mad.
The children of the keep are loving this.
They're chasing boggy around.
They're darting around the castle.
They're running from the birds.
I have a pounding headache.
Cedric, you're like hugging the back wall,
just trying to disappear into the stone.
Well, you like make the rounds.
You notice that among all of this merriment and joy,
there are people who look relieved to be home,
but like they've clearly lost something.
Okay, I have sort of a hat of personal effects.
I don't know these people yet.
So I'm going around and I'm saying this is what we collected from those we lost, those that fell.
So if you see anything in here, please claim it to remember them by.
I'll say Mrs. Divid comes over and she knows this keep inside and out.
She looks at everything and she says, oh dear, oh, thank you.
It'll give some comfort, I'm sure.
Yes, that's all that can be hoped for in these circumstances.
And then she sees the locket and she says, dear, Winona will want this one.
Who's Winona?
What's in that locket?
I didn't peep.
I didn't peep.
I wanted to.
I thought of it.
I considered it.
Oh, dang, is Winona in the locket?
Yeah, you can peep if you like.
Really?
She opens the locket and there's Winona, a young, beautiful,
maiden and she says, the shepherd's daughter, her, her sweetheart.
Oh, dang.
He fell.
Okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Give it back to Winona.
I will, my lady.
Sutric, Sutric, you need to marry Winona.
I need to marry Winona.
Yeah, she's crazy.
Oh, I'm not ready.
I'm not ready yet.
Willie, don't make me.
Okay, okay, I won't make you boggy.
You need to be.
Mary Winona.
Sure.
Boggy's old.
You're right.
She might not have you.
What's her due?
I pull Willie aside,
Boggy's old and gross.
No, you're right.
You're right.
You're right.
There's a reason that my mind
went to you first,
and then as soon as Boggy just said,
yes, unthinkingly,
I realized it was wrong.
I think he's probably been married many times.
He's probably still married.
Boggy looks at the locket, peach juice cakeed in his beard.
Boggy whistles through his tobacco tooth as he chases the children around.
Throwing peaches at them.
Actually, I'm going to get Sudrick and Boggy together.
I think that there's one more thing that we need to do before we depart.
Okay.
I think that we need to start a nightly order amongst Sir Decky and his kin.
They can start his guards in order to be nice.
No, but I think...
But you don't understand, I think that the point of...
Well, you can't make me.
Wait, none of us can.
We need, you know, a landowner to...
Oh!
We're landowners now.
We can knight.
And I just want to suggest that the benefit of knighting
is that nighting often comes with sort of a code of conduct
and that inspires people to fight beyond when they might have run otherwise.
Right, but he's just a nerd is all.
Okay.
You look across the courtyard and you see,
Decky going into the armory to put his gear back.
He knocks the shield against the side of the wall.
He lays it and then he comes over.
I give you joy of your victory, sirs.
Cool.
Thanks.
I try to avoid his gaze.
Okay.
All right.
Thanks, Sir, Deke.
Well, it's not Sir Decky.
It's just regular Decky.
Listen, I don't mean to give you a hard time.
That's okay.
You punched me in the face yesterday.
It got me a lot of respect.
He's missing a canine.
Ah, plug that up, sir.
What is your sort of training?
Because I saw you just almost fall off the horse and stuff.
Uh-huh.
Well, my dad was the armorer.
And I worked with him in the yard a little bit, but I'm not quite a night.
I was more of a squire, you know, but I don't really have anybody to work for now.
So I guess I'm in charge, right?
No, okay.
You're absolutely not in charge.
You're our squire.
should you like to do that?
Well, me?
But we would probably keep you here.
Sort of our eyes and ears.
We'll give you drills.
Okay.
You're going to be like a homeschooled night.
So I'll do drills while you guys are traveling and he'll come back and I'll be freaking
chacked.
I'll be yoked when you come back.
You won't even recognize me.
That's the spirit.
That's what a hope.
Yeah, maybe.
Your father was a smith, but you shall smith your body, friend.
Okay.
I'll get absolutely shredded while you're gone.
Okay.
So it actually takes a lot of dedication and it would take like years and stuff.
So like relax.
How long do you think you'll be gone for?
It's unclear.
Like a couple days.
It's really unclear.
Okay.
I'll like establish one rep max on some stuff.
Great.
Yeah.
No, that's good.
And you have to set goals.
Is there anyone in your group that knows what they're doing?
Um, he looks around.
Most of the best guys were killed in the fighting.
Yeah.
Well, there's one big guy.
He's pretty dumb, but he's strong.
His name is Ethan Bulge.
Ethan Bulge?
Oh, shit.
What is Ethan Boltz?
That's a man to meet.
That's a man to meet.
That's a man with meat with that name.
Hey-ho.
You can't miss him.
He's out with the horses.
Holy shit.
Out in the stables, there's like a big, heavy set young guy feeding the horse's oats and hay.
Sir Bulge, a proposition.
Everyone stop calling people, sir.
Why? If we want to be a proper order, we need to let other people in.
Do we want to be the order of the compass and crow or not?
The order of the compass and crow, that does sound cool.
It's got quite a ring.
Quite a ring.
Yeah.
Okay, yeah.
All right.
Boulds, get over here, you maniac.
Bulls in his huge frame looks at you, almost confused.
And he lumberes towards the keep.
Um, sirs?
Yeah, what's our?
up. So we're making an order, order of the compass and crow.
Yes, it's a knightly order that defends this bastion.
Yeah. And so we're doing sort of a training thing. And we think that you're the type of guy that we want in here.
Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Um, Deky's like kind of the commander. No, he's not.
For some reason, Zudrick really doesn't like the idea of Deky, but loves the idea of you. So I'm trying to compromise.
Okay.
Yeah.
Well, Deky said he's the commander,
but I guess you're kind of the lord,
so you could do whatever you want.
What are your thoughts for the order?
For establishing a knighthood, what would you do?
Please give us your top three tenants.
Oh, yeah.
Or maybe just one, because I think the rest of us
should provide a tenant.
Oh, indeed.
Well, I think the horses need to be treated better.
Their stables are kind of open air and it gets cold,
So I think that is a beautiful core tenter.
You're just a good solid guy.
That is a beautiful core.
He's like me, but with horses instead of crows.
It was also a trick question because if you said, I really want to make sure that our knighthood isn't punitive or prohibitionary.
And what you said was positive.
And that means a lot to me.
Yes, you've spoken for those who cannot speak.
That is a true tenet of a knight.
Yeah.
So consider it chiseled into stone.
horses should be treated well
is one of the order of compass and crows
core values
that's the order I want to be a part of
sign me up and we have a great squire for you
his name is Decky
what oh shit
he's really not going to sit well
I guess Zudrick and Boggi
do you have a core tenant that you would like to add
you know something to guide the night so that they know what they're
fighting for so that they don't
just bail on battle when things get hard?
If anyone shows up here and they're being a jerk,
kill jerks.
Okay, kill jerks.
Kill jerks.
If the tree horse is good, kill jerks.
Boggy?
I would say the tinnit that you must describe to is
sleep with your shoes on.
Yeah, that's cool.
Really?
Okay.
Okay.
Why?
Well, I guess the other ones feel more self-explanatory.
It's all about readiness, man.
Preparation.
Oh. Oh.
And also so that...
Sorry, I'm kind of thick.
Well, it's okay. You know what? Scarab's crawling in your boots as well.
Vigilance. Okay.
Yeah.
Horses should be treated better. Kill, jerk. Sleep with your shoes on.
This is really coming together.
Sir, he talks to you, Ellie.
Yeah.
What's your tenant? It should have four.
You should have four.
I think my tenant would be, notice the beauty that others fail to say,
see or have grown accustomed to.
I don't know if that really makes sense with the other ones.
It grabs it out nicely.
Maybe we can just shorten it to admire beauty.
There it is.
Yeah, just not the way Barkey does it.
Yeah, admire beauty, admire the beauty that others fail to appreciate.
Excuse me.
What's wrong?
What's wrong with the little bird song, man?
When the crows do it, it's fine.
But when I get all a titter, that puts a stink in your armor then, eh?
Treat horse is good.
Kill jerks.
Sleep with your shoes on and notice beauty, but be normal.
Well, admire beauty that others fail to appreciate.
Admire beauty that others feel to appreciate, but don't whistle about it unless it's like harmless.
No, that's prohibitionary.
You express it however you need to.
Okay.
We can whistle.
Well, maybe we'll revisit.
Just be so.
Let's just say admire beauty and just be...
Admire beauty respectfully.
Yeah.
How about that?
Because being normal is like it should be a given.
That is the silent fifth tenet, yes.
I think admire beauty respectfully...
Even bulge, you're just on the level.
Okay.
You have a bulge in your heart, sir.
All right.
I'm going to tell Decky about all this, all right?
All right, cool.
I appreciate it.
We do.
I think Decky's really going to like this stuff.
Now, wellie, I've never done a knighting ceremony before,
but perhaps you've seen this.
that your order? Could you, what is he supposed to do? Is he supposed to prostrate himself?
Yes. I think he's gonna, if he goes to one knee, well, he will perform like a really
dangerous looking sword dance all around him that you just keep thinking that he's going to get
sliced. Okay. Whoa. Like, it looks like a dance that should be done with a rapier, but she's doing it
with a great sword. Yeah. Okay. A knighthood should almost be done with like a ceremonial dulled sword.
You have like a sharp blade that is just carved a troll.
Magical sharp blade covered in troll guts.
Yeah.
Kiltz, wellie.
Twitching, bulge goes to a knee and bows his head,
but you like can't help but continually look up to make sure that you're not coming too close to his arteries.
And then I think like right the very final swoop is like right at the jugular but doesn't actually nick it.
And then I wink and say, you're a night now.
Wow
Rise, Sebulge
Sir Bulge
Rises as
as Decky looks on
holding a great sword
against the stone
because he can't raise it
that he's like
Knuckles white
Plastic smile on his face
Deke, you're good for you dude
You're Sir Bulge's squire
You want it too bad
Okay
I don't need it
You need it too bad
Yeah
Honestly that's what my dad said
Before the troll
ripped him in half
too. Honestly, I put my hand on his shoulder, and your dad wasn't ready either.
I noticed that's his breastplate.
Oh, man, that's bad even for me.
I just want you to know that wasn't intentional.
It's cool. It's cool.
It is well crafted, though. He's a fine armor.
It sure was, yeah.
No, I owe you because when you punched me in the tooth, it got me a lot of respect.
So, no worries.
It's all good.
It's all good.
I'll be absolutely yoked next time you see him here.
And if you want to apply your talents in the armory, we'd really appreciate that.
Indeed.
Because we've got a knighthood to outfit now.
You're right.
Okay.
I'll get the soldiers equipped.
And as he says that, Mrs. Divitt approaches you.
Should we knight her?
I mean, I'd be fine with it.
I can't speak for Zudrick.
I am okay.
Fair, fair.
Yes.
My lords, tell me, what else can we do to make you feel at home?
And mechanically, this is your bastion.
So a bastion is basically your home base when you are not adventuring.
It is self-sustaining.
Every room and facility here generates enough income to support its existence.
And everyone working here is loyal to the bastion, even decky.
Your bastion is equipped with basic facilities.
And at level five, each of you guys will get to construct a special facility.
Its layout appearance and function is up to you.
So before you leave, before you set off, you can ask Mrs. Dibbitt.
to help you set up a special facility that can mechanically help you on your adventure.
What a generous offer.
Yes, let's do sort of a rookery, maybe something that the birds can travel back and forth
and carry little trinkets for us.
Like if somebody here wants to make some potions, maybe the crows could carry it back and forth.
Oh.
My goodness, that would be very convenient.
Yes, I think we can do that.
A crow post.
Yes, a rookery would be a great idea.
All right.
Consider it done.
And, Miss David, I've already done.
got some peaches
simmering in the
copper tub upstairs.
Oh, no.
Is there a distillery
anywhere about?
The copper tub in the,
okay.
It's in a different room now.
The lady's room.
Oh, it's not it.
What room?
What do you?
The hallway is far too narrow.
The tub was constructed
in the room itself.
You couldn't have possibly moved.
No, it was dragged.
We did some light reno.
That vile troll dragged the tub.
Yes, it must have been the troll.
Yeah.
By we did the reno.
And then the troll squeezed some peaches in there,
I think.
Beast, what a brute.
But you know, when a troll squeezes peaches, we make peach aid.
Yes.
And so we made the most of it.
Or brandy.
What a positive outlook.
All right.
So I'm just wondering, I present the summer stack Pete Whiskey, which if I remember from
season one, gave us a sort of a small boon when we drank it.
Yes, I think from the whiskey from Lenark's study gave you guys 1D4 of temp HP.
Oh, okay, great.
So I present that to her and say, I stumbled upon this.
exceptional vintage.
And I'm wondering if the distiller here
could replicate it, perhaps
make a sort of a restorative peach brandy,
or perhaps infuse other effects
into a whiskey or a liquor of sorts.
Very interesting.
All right. We don't have a brewer,
but I think I know just the man for the job.
Is that so?
Our peach farmer drinks more alcohol than most.
I think he'd be perfect.
As he should, it's thirsty work.
What a polite way to say it.
I really like that.
Oh, geez.
And what might this gentleman's name be?
Of course, it is Mr. Wally Freestone.
Wally Freestone.
Why, there he is now.
You see a wiry sunburned man, squinting hard into the sun.
Oh, God, this guy's got Bucky's bud written all over him.
All right.
How you doing?
Better now, friend.
Better now.
I'm full wellie aside.
I don't want to hang out with this guy.
I hear you're looking for a distiller.
I don't know much about it, but I got a pretty good palate.
Give me a little mouth sniff of that.
Yes, I agree.
Sniff away.
It's like if goofy was a human.
She takes a sip, gets one HP.
A really sunburned human.
Ooh, yeah, that's whiskey.
All right.
My father was quite the distiller back in his day.
And I would love to see a tub full of mash once more,
simmering in a basement.
You do know this place has a basement.
And, Boggi, you also remember.
from the Donhold and Lenark's study, it was full of wild magic, like Wellie's twig and the great dragon
cicada. So you would know that there might be some natural ingredients that still hold magic in their
roots. And then you remember the river birch, which you used to heal fay. This whiskey almost has like a
crisp, clean finish. And you can basically direct Mr. Freestone to harvest different things around
the keep and try to find some of those healing and magical properties.
Zuddy, perhaps we could use your crow post to bring components back.
Oh, my God, the birds can deliver us booze.
That'll be cool.
Ha ha!
I feel like we could create an extra source of income purely through alcohol delivery.
Yeah.
Wow.
Rootleggers.
And Mrs. Dibbitt will also say, you know, I think we can use some of the iron from the greenhouse
and perhaps the balcony upstairs to make a rookery where the birds can roost.
Excellent.
They love roosting.
And mechanically, since this is a.
special facility. The rookery is going to strengthen your connection to the murder. For this journey,
you will have one use of beast sense, allowing you to swap senses with one of your birds for up to one
hour. You can see through its eyes and hear what it hears. Yes, dude. Wow. Zuddy, I did have
something I wish to ask of you. It is perhaps a bit too personal. If I'm imposing, let me know,
but would you allow me to use the discarded feathers for the fletching of my arrows?
Well, we'll have to ask Tabitha.
They start screaming at the birds, chitter back and forth with them.
Yeah, they said it's fine.
They preen all the time.
I bow to Tabitha.
They shall fly truer thanks to your plumage, Tabitha.
I kiss the bird.
Hey, some of us are waiting for it to happen with Tabith and Zudrick.
There's nothing going on between me and the birds like that.
If she wants it, she's got to prove it.
Mrs. Ditt looks down and pretends not to hear that.
And she says, and you, miss, my lord, what can we do for you?
Well, I don't want to impose.
So this is absolutely something that would be not required for anyone to partake in.
But I thought it would be nice to have a holy space for the contemplation of the gods.
I don't want a priesthood.
I don't want any sort of mediators between the supplicant and the divine, a place where,
people can go and via contemplation or whatever meditative means.
Of course.
Give them a sense of transcendence, feel their connection, their direct connection with the
divine.
And if that sounds heretical to you, it is.
So keep it out.
The DEL.
Well, I've got my second chance at life resting beneath a stained glass window in a church
last night, so I'm quite spiritual, girl.
Okay.
It's fine by me.
Wellie, did you want to ask her about the naked paintings now or later?
I'm just saying like we went to Princess Lenark's study.
There were some paintings that I think made me feel religious in addition to other things.
So this is not your average sanctuary, if you know what I mean.
Perhaps the Duke's private study is the place for that.
Yeah.
Wait, I think I'm maybe insinuating things.
I just mean if someone wants to get a little lewd with a tapestry in the name of the gods,
I actually think that we don't need to be ashamed of our bodies.
Yes.
Are you not suggesting a carnal corner, are you?
There's already one in Zudrick's room.
What?
Direct anyone who gets a little too stimulated by the sanctuary to the carnal corner
in Zudrick's room.
So we can do it in the adjacent study.
I think that's perfect.
Yeah.
Lovely.
Great.
So Mrs. Divid will also have a quiet place in the bastion constructed
where you can reflect on the gods, the lodestar, the ender, the hill.
and all of the things they make you feel.
And Wellie, before you go, you're going to be able to spend some time in the sanctuary.
Spending time in a sanctuary grants you a sanctuary charm,
a small blessing that you can carry with you when you leave the bastion.
The charm lasts seven days.
And once before the charm fades, you can use it to cast Healing Word.
Wow.
So all of this stuff will happen as you guys get ready to leave.
And with that, Mrs. Divid says,
Will he be staying with us a while, or are you headed out?
We have.
Sadly, we are...
A friend of a friend is going to be killed in...
Oh, dear.
I check my watch.
Eight days?
Eight days, correct?
Yeah.
Uh, yes, eight days from now.
So we either need horses or a boat.
Where is the execution taking place then?
Somewhere in Goodport, most likely a billion long skiffs residence, or nearabouts.
I see, and will you be taking the most direct path there?
Along the river.
Oh, I mean, we could do that, but I think we were curious to stop by the bog as we've had intel that we may find something there.
If time allows, we would stop by the bog lands.
Yes, you could do it just as long as you don't die, of course.
Will you know if we die, Mrs. Divitt?
Are we connected now?
The crows will teller.
I suppose the rookery will bring word, yes.
The crows will each have tiny flags, which can communicate messages.
I wasn't sure if we were connected.
in a way.
We should be very sad to lose you.
You've only been the Lords for 12 hours,
but you've done more than any of the old Lords combined, I'd imagine.
Yeah.
I look forward to returning to this warm half at the end of our mission.
And I know William Schitts already loves this terrarium.
The frog ribbets from the glass house.
He's stuck in the toilet.
He doesn't have a butt.
His butt is super narrow.
He's just going to fall in.
You have to believe in.
him, Zodrick.
I'm just afraid he's going to die as all.
Well, if you're headed to the boglands, then I dare say you'll be wanting the skiff.
Rowing across Imogene is the most direct path.
I'll have Mr. Pullings get her in the water.
Oh, God.
Wait, is Pullings the drunk guy?
No.
But he's a different guy.
Well, there's a lot of drunk guys.
Yeah.
Pulling's also a drunk guy.
Free storms the drunk guy. Pulling's all right.
Everyone here drinks wine in the morning, so I think they're all a little drunk.
Okay.
I mean, who doesn't drink? It's breakfast. That's what it's for.
Okay.
Yeah, I guess it's berries.
Okay. So I'll say you guys are going to like pack your bags, get things ready.
Mechanically, all of this stuff is being set up as you're standing there and as you're getting ready to leave.
First of all, Boggy, you're going to be able to leave with three flasks of Boggy's whiskey.
Hey, oh.
Just like Lenark's whiskey, each flask has three shots and each shot deals one D4 of temp HP.
They do not stack.
Zudrick, your rookery.
is set up. There's already bird feet up there. There are crows wandering down the halls,
shitting on the canopy of the Duke's bed. And you can use your beast sense ability once on this
journey. And then Wellie, you go into the Duke's library. The walls are lined with books. There's
like a hearth with two comfortable chairs. And already this place is being almost like turned over.
The Duke has volumes and volumes of books that reflect his interests. So navigation, trade routes,
laws. I think we should
hang on to that because I think that
if we're peach barons, we are going to
need to know some of that.
But it can move to a different... We've got two
unused bedrooms, so...
Should we put a peach on the flag?
Is it too late to put a peach on the... I'm just realizing...
It's too late. I just feel like,
oh, that would be really inviting, you know?
I think it's...
It would be too inviting.
Too inviting, yeah. Yeah. The only person
we have that can handle anyone is Ethan Bulge.
He'll train as much.
men up quick. I know it. So the library, they'll hang on to some of these, like, volumes,
but they're also going to unearth some, like, you know, more adventurous literature, stuff that you
might have read when you were a kid, like, Adventures of the Age of Stories. Things are almost,
like, considered fiction now. Cool old maps that the Duke had filed away are already lining the walls.
I want to look for a place that it wouldn't be disruptive to carve in the ruins of the Lodestar and
the Hilt and the Ender. And maybe I'd like to frame Wilma's
letter. Amazing. Okay. So in this library, among like this tall shelves and the chairs and the hearth,
there's also almost like a coffee table, like a big squat table with a map of the country carved
into the wood. Yeah, I'll sort of put those in there as something people can meditate on. And
maybe I guess I'll kick it off with my own prayer. Oh, lodestar, oh Hilt, oh Ender.
forgive my audacity for wanting to know you more intimately.
But I feel it is possible that you are my lifelong quest.
Sincerely welly ham dam.
And then I blow kisses at each of the rooms.
Amazing.
Okay.
As you carve these sigils into the table, give me a history check with advantage.
17 plus 5.
Amazing.
It becomes 22.
Okay.
As you lean over carving into the old.
wood. You see it's dark with age. The roads and the coastlines are familiar, all of them except for one,
a road leaving the southern shore of Lake Imogene and continuing through what is now marked as
bogland. Oh, this is the road will be going. On the newer maps, the road is not there. You also,
with your 21, as you're carving this, you naturally glance up at Lake Imogene where this fort is.
You see the fort at the head of the lake. It's carving as faint, almost worn smooth with age. But
You lick your finger and run it across the wood, darkening the shallow grooves.
As the lines come into focus, you can make out the old name for this keep, long forgotten.
It's written in Elvish.
Wellie, you can read what it means.
Yeah.
Tithenbar.
It's called Dollhouse.
Dollhouse.
An old road is probably still there.
It's just overgrown.
So I just come out and I show you guys.
Look at this.
It's an old road.
I think we can rediscover a path.
that people once walked and have not walked in a long time,
but we can tread again.
Old Roads, new friends.
This is how your story begins.
All right, we are the compass and crow after all.
That's true.
Hey, Tilly Tilly, ring, ring ho.
I'm in a good mood now.
I saw some art I really liked.
What was it?
Zudrick gestures to a pretty good painting of some fruit in a bowl.
It looks so much like the real fruit.
Isn't that insane?
It is.
Could you imagine just being able to, like, see an apple and then paint it?
I can.
I can't.
Yes.
Pretty incredible stuff.
Cedric looks at it for a long time.
Also, did you know that this place used to be called Tithinbar, which means dollhouse?
Dollhouse?
Yeah.
For giants.
Maybe.
Do you think perhaps this was less of a castle and more of a, like a playplace?
Do we know from the age of stories, like, did giant?
Giants used to roam these lands.
Is that like a common tale?
We have all these books here.
Yeah, give me a history check.
Boggi pulls out a sword and just kind of like pokes at one of the books and it falls to the ground.
Only an 11.
I got a 16.
I got a 5.
Do something.
So with the 16, you haven't heard stories of giants ruling these lands or anything.
And in fact, at first glance, you remember the first king named these lakes for his daughters.
so maybe something like dollhouse could even be fitting.
Oh, so yeah, the daughters would come here maybe or something?
Perhaps.
But then as you think of giants,
your mind wanders to the other enormous creatures from Skaldova's past.
You remember the carving in the great hall of the dawnhole,
a dragon spreading its wings across the heraldry there,
the image on the map in the guardroom,
the beast perched atop a keep,
and of course Cicada's body buried beneath Lenark's castle.
And so, Wellie, as you consider,
all of this, you also get to construct a charm that's going to let you cast healing word on your journey.
What does your charm look like?
I think I feel my greatest connection with the lodestar, though I do find myself fascinated by the
Ender. But at the order of the Okinaur, it was more about the lodestar because stars are what
you navigate by. So I think I'll do the lodestar symbol.
Okay. So Wellie carves a totem with the symbol of the lodestar, the points of a compass,
much like the broken one in your pocket,
the compass that now flies on a flag above your keep.
This charm will protect you and maybe even guide you
as the order of the compass and crow crosses Lake Imaging
in search of a road that only the bog remembers.
And that's where we'll end our session.
Oh, man.
Excited for a boat trip.
Yeah, me too.
A skiff?
You guys are getting in the skiff.
Put me on the skiff right now.
Jake, that was the best real estate tour I've ever been on.
Oh, man.
I'll take it.
I'll take the house.
Great.
I think I'll give you the full layer of the land over on the short rest.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Check that out.
