Episode Date: December 11, 2025Kylie’s back with a brand new episode of Not Gonna Lie brought to you by Olipop! She kicks things off by explaining her favorite way to spend some “nobody needs me time” which leads us to a hila...rious story about a new Wyatt “hack.” We then get into Places Kylie Has *Some* Business Being where Kylie reveals her strategic plan to dress like a dirtball most of the time so people are impressed when she puts on a blazer. Then, in “Doomscroll of the Week,” Kylie weighs in on the viral clip from The Other Podcast about couples arguing, commenting on why her husband was oddly quiet during that segment… She also reads some more comment section gold on a cooking video and shares some of the girls’ most ridiculous eating habits. Kylie also shouts out a barbershop called The Gifted Event for providing free haircuts for families with neurodivergent children. After that, Kylie talks about the only type of gift opening occasion she does approve of: White Elephants. She gets honest about doing a white elephant gift exchange each year with the Eagles wives and girlfriends. Kylie is then joined by actress Zooey Deschanel whom she absolutely loves because of her yearly “New Girl” binge. Kylie first asks Zooey about working on Elf, if her kids have seen the movie, being blonde in the role of Jovie and blending in with hair and makeup. Kylie and Zooey also talk about Zooey’s new holiday romcom “Merv” and what it was like to work with an adorable and trained set dog. Zooey and Kylie also get into what they love about holiday themed romantic comedies. Then, Kylie the New Girl superfan really comes out as she asks Zooey everything she’s wanted to know about her favorite show. They talk about their favorite episodes, the coolest celebrity guest starring moments and the funniest bloopers. Kylie and Zooey then play a hilarious game of New Girl Trivia: Superfan vs. the literal STAR of the show, where Zooey reveals even more insider facts. Lastly, Kylie finds a way to try and recruit Zooey to become a Philadelphia Eagles fan and teaches her the ways of the Birds. Not going to lie, our Elf Emmy Nemi has really been stepping it up this week.
She better cut that shit out because she's set in the bar a little too high and we like low expectations.
She even put paper ornaments hanging from the kitchen ceiling.
Mm-mm.
Whatever, let's get this podcast started.
Welcome back to Not Gonna Lie Away for Original, brought to you by Oli Pop, a new kind of soda.
I'm your host, Kylie Kelsey, aka That Lady with Four Kids, is always warning you to stay away from her husband.
That's accurate.
I've watched all seven seasons of New Girl at least eight times.
That's not an exaggeration.
And my version of self-care is driving by myself into the city, playing the music that I want to hear and not getting screamed at for it, and picking up food that I specifically want to eat.
quite honest, I do that. I drive into the city to get good city food when, typically when I have a
call, because if it's a 30, if I know it's going to be 30 minutes and I don't have to be on video,
you're probably getting my undivided attention when I'm driving my car. Because I'm not a sitting
duck in my house for my kids to be like, hey, mom, mom, mom, can you get down the big snack,
Ben? Mom, can you, can you get me something out of the drawer?
Mom. Can you fill up my water bottle? Mom. Also, Wyatt recently figured out how to use the remote.
So I had to hide that on a higher shelf. Because every time someone started talking,
suddenly the volume on our living room TV was at 80. Do you know how loud 80 is? Oh my God.
It straight up sounds like you are having the grand finale of Disney fireworks in your living room.
It is insane. And that's what she's doing. And so I can't.
speak to other people in my house. It's very passive aggressive. It's so passive aggressive.
And she doesn't say anything. She just turns it up. And she also knows that I'm going to take
the remote. So she hides it next to her leg and turns it up. And then just sort of looks at you like,
did she notice that it's deafening so loud that you can't even hear your own thoughts?
Did she notice yet? Yes, I noticed. Coming up in today's episode, I'm going to get honest about
the only type of gift opening event I do enjoy white elephants and some of the funniest moments
we had during the Eagles holiday party over the years. After that, I can't believe this is
finally happening. And I'm getting to talk to her in person. I'm going to be joined by the lead
actress from one of my all-time favorite TV shows, Zoe Day Chanel. I'm so excited. Oh,
my gosh, I cannot wait. This was such a staple in my house. I really cannot emphasize enough.
that it was like a, it was like a full family event.
Like this was one of those shows that we could put on
and no one in the house would argue.
That's a big deal.
Even Big Ad was sat.
You see what I did there?
Big Ed was sat for some new girl.
I could even get him to finish the theme song.
Who's that girl?
It's Jess.
But first, let's get to a brand new edition of Places Kylie has some business being
brought to you by CVS Health.
This past week, I guess I can admit,
I had some business attending the March of Time Sports Lunch
because I was there to present Jason with an award.
It was the Sports Achievement Award.
He and Katie Ladecki were receiving it.
I would just like to throw out there right off the jump.
I was fan-girling so hard on Katie Ladecki.
I was not cool about it.
I actually went up to her and said, I am such a huge fan.
And then I immediately went into confession where I said to her,
I have to admit, I have said that.
The one sport I don't want my kids to do is swimming.
And she said, oh, I know.
It is so, I just don't, I can't.
I understand that my husband was very, very good at his job.
I understand that he is probably on the trajectory.
And I'm saying probably because I am a superstitious individual.
end up in the Hall of Fame to be in the presence of someone who has 14 Olympic medals,
I think. I was trying to play it cool. If I wasn't cool about it, Katie, I tried my very hardest.
I will say the event raised $1.4 million to support maternal and infant health programs.
Shout out to Marcia Dimes and all the incredible work they are doing. It was so great to be able to sit at
this luncheon and hear about all of the families that were impacted by their work and the
research and programs that they are funding. It is so important, obviously, as someone who
has experienced loss myself, who has experienced five pregnancies. It is very much an important
cause. And obviously, I am in full support of all of the work that they are doing. So I'm very
grateful to have been able to sit there and learn more about it. Now, on a much lighter, much more
ridiculous note about this event, there were also lots of clips going around of Jason and I dressed
up for the occasion. And the real ones, no, I can't resist a comment section. So starting with
this one, I love it how she's dressed like a normal person would dress for a big event. Guys,
normal person got dressed for an event. But a majority of the comments were people shocked by how I
look when I'm not wearing sweatpants for once.
Someone's like, at Kai Kelsey, look at you with a flame emoji.
Someone else said, my, don't you look good all dressed up?
Guys, it's strategic.
Okay?
If I wear sweatpants all the time, right?
Then my baseline is dirtball.
Okay?
That's great.
That's my baseline.
Then when I have to step it up a little bit, okay?
When I wear hard pants or heels,
And then you guys will be like, wait, what?
Does she?
Does she got it?
Guys, sometimes I have to put on hard pants so that everyone doesn't keep asking,
why did that fine ass slice a man?
Who are we kidding?
That's not a slice.
Why that fine ass whole dessert ass of a man?
Pick that.
Sometimes I got to remind you when I want to,
I can look a little put together
but you got to set the bar low
low
because all that was
that was like a blow dry
I don't know
that was a blow dry
that was a blow dry and a blazer
easy
honestly fuck that
it's not for anybody else
it's for yourself you got to dress up
every so often just to be like
Oh, yep, you can still do it. There it is. There it is. You can still actually use the things in your
makeup bag. There it is. You can still use a curling iron. There it is. And then promptly return back to
Dirtball. And that's it. For Places, Kylie has some business being brought to you by CBS Health.
Next, let's move on over to Doom Scroll the week. Brought to you by Toyota. Let's go places.
First up on Doom Scroll, there's a viral clip from the other podcast going around.
that you guys keep asking me to comment on.
So here we go, Queen Emma, the clip, please?
You claim that you and your wife haven't gotten in a fight in 10 years.
That's right.
Are you lying?
No, I'm not lying.
Travis.
I'm just asking.
Shall we ask you the same questions?
Well, it's only been two and a half years, and you're right.
I haven't gotten an argument.
I've met this incredible woman that she's beautiful and smart and stands for all the most important things
that I believe in in the world.
and I can't believe how lucky I am.
So what am I going to fight about?
Yeah, you can use that if you want.
I'm stealing it for sure.
We had a couple comments.
I need at Kylie Kelsey input with crying laughing faces.
Someone said Jason likes rage baiting Kylie too much.
Notice how my husband was oddly quiet during this segment.
He did ask a couple clarifying questions,
but for the most part,
his ass knew that he could not say that after almost eight years married,
we absolutely argue.
Now, do we argue often? Not really, but we've definitely argued for sure. I'm wondering if they're trying to classify an argument as like an argument, right? Like a like almost like a yelling, like to be fair, I'm not a yelling arguer. So like our like the arguments in our house don't, they're not a yelling situation. I just think that if you're married, you live together.
specifically if you have children i think it gets like you're potentially having some sleepless nights
um you you might have like varying degrees of patience with certain situations with your kids
also i do think it's important to figure out what the definition is of the argument
that's why i'm saying like is it a yelling or is that how we're is it like a yelling thing
we're not going to argue. Is it like, is that different from bickering? You're telling me you don't bicker
or argue? Or maybe you do bicker, but you don't argue? I'm very confused about this.
To George Clooney's credit, I would not argue with them all either. Absolutely not. I would be
right behind her like, yeah, get them. What she said. I'm with her. Whatever she's,
she says we write it on. If she wants to come on this podcast, you just come through, girl.
She is far more professional than this. Seems unlikely, but the invites there. Next up, I've
already briefed you guys on the goal that is the comment section, and I just stumbled across
a Hall of Fameworthy one on a recipe video with the caption, what my future kids are going
to be getting when they ask for a snack. There was a kneading of the dough. Okay, there was a resting
the dough. There was a forming of the dough. They mixed cream cheese, something or other, put a
fag on a fresh cut fig on top. They drizzled some honey and some pistachios. What you got to do when
you see this kind of thing, run. Okay? You run. You sprint as fast as humanly possible. You
go as fast as your little fingers will get you to that comment section and you start scrolling.
and let me tell you, this didn't disappoint, okay?
Have you ever met a child before?
It's one of the first comments, okay?
My son wouldn't eat a bagel because, quote,
the whole tastes weird, so good luck with that.
Nope.
Nope, you cut it the wrong way.
Okay?
This is on, don't you ever cut triangles when they want.
wanted squares, okay? If you know, if you have witnessed a crash out by a toddler because you
cut a food the wrong way, you are scarred for life. There's nothing that can bring. You are literally
making a new sandwich. It's not. And people who want to be like, wow, let them have a tantrum.
They'll eat when they're hungry. Yeah, you're right. You know what? My ears have had enough.
I'm probably going to make another sandwich. Guys, here's a deal.
I do just think, I just think that we're all, as parents, we're all just fighting the good
fight, okay? And here's the deal. If this woman has kids and her kids are patient enough
to wait for the fig buns, power to you. My kids are all different types of eaters. Some days
they like the pasta. Some days they don't. Some days it's the shape of the pasta that is
incorrect. Some days it is the wrong kind of cheese. It's crazy when you feed your kids something.
They're like, that's great. And they don't argue with you. Typically, they don't even say that's
great. They just don't argue with you. I don't know if that's anyone else's situation. It's not
that my kids are like, wow, mom, this is delicious. They just don't argue with you. And to me,
that is like one of the sweetest, kindest feedbacks
about a dinner presentation that I can receive.
And our last video is one of the most heartwarming TikToks
I've doomscrolled upon ever.
And it's a cause near and dear to my heart.
Queen Emma, the clip, please.
Come here, come here.
Nope, it wasn't embarrassing at all.
No, no, not thinking about it, I can reject it a lot.
A little bro flying by.
Meanwhile, my goal is to get the kids
to a space where they're independent of their parents,
and the parents are in a space
where they can actually enjoy the rest of the haircut time.
Come on, thank you.
That's all I need, fist bump.
That's it.
She's right there.
I love this so much.
I love this so much.
First of all, shout out to Vernon Jackson
and the gifted event in Cincinnati
for all the incredible work that you're doing
for neurodivergent kids.
On the gifted event homepage, it says,
as a barber, I saw the need for a place
where children with disabilities are supported
during a haircut and an environment
where parents or caregivers don't have to explain their child's behavior or apologize for
something they may do or say. This is so important. This is so important to give families the space
to do something that neurotypical families may take for granted. Obviously, if you take
kids into a barbershopper to get a haircut, a neurotypical kid might be uncomfortable with
clippers or have an outburst or it's not something that might be happening on a regular basis.
So any kid might take issue with this.
But specifically the neurodivergent population, the sensory of it, the clippers touching
your neck, the sound of it, the comb running through their hair, all of these things could
be things that could trigger any type of sensory issue or honestly just be uncomfortable
because it's unknown.
it is so amazing that not only is Vernon taking it upon himself to create this safe space for
these families, but he is also sharing it via social media to make sure that if you feel so
inclined you can donate, which is amazing. But the other thing is to show that he is using his
tools to be able to interact with these kids in a way that is not only productive,
for them, but settling to their parents.
So Vernon, thank you so much for making a safe space for these kids and their families.
You can donate at thegifted event.com.
NGL will be making a donation.
We are so incredibly grateful to you.
And also for sharing what your strategies are and how you're using them so that maybe
other people will feel inclined to offer this in their cities or near their homes.
um next time i'm in cincinnati maybe i could stop by please just come for a visit real quick
uh that's it for doom scroll the week brought to you by toyota zoe day chanel is coming up but
first it's time to get even more honest real ones this is can i be honest about white elephants
brought to you by amazon shop holiday deals now before jason retired we did a white elephant
every year for a holiday party with the eagles wives and this is the
The only time I truly enjoy opening gifts in front of people.
I really, because it's, I think because it's not intended for you, and also, it's a true
surprise.
You don't know who gave the gift.
You don't put your name on the gift.
You don't know who brought it.
That's another fun aspect to it.
Sometimes at the end, when all of the gifts are open, you can go around in a circle and
try and guess who brought the gift that you ended up with, which is kind of fun.
the most memorable gifts
hmm I mean my box of fucks was great
that was an Annie Elliott special
I ended up with a box of
oh my middle finger's missing
oh no it's right there my middle finger candle
was in the box of fucks
there was a Christmas ornament of an elf
giving the middle finger
the subtle art of not giving a fuck
is also a book that was included in there
she's under here
I might be able to see her
You see her
She's under there
Squirrel's back
That's a full-blown squirrel though
That's a hefty ass squirrel
He's big boy
Look at him
He's trying to hide a nut right now
Okay
I will tell you
That I brought
The exact same gift
Every single year
Okay
And this is
This is my sleeper gift
For a white elephant
specifically one that is you could do it if it's co-ed as well but we were a room of women so
it translated very nicely almost every single year on black Friday or Cyber Monday I would go
online find the best deals on some expensive ass sunglasses and I would get sunglasses
one year I got like really nice ones that were like funky and cool like sunglasses I would
never personally wear because I'm just not cool enough but they were these awesome like statement
sunglasses and I got those on hell of sale and then I brought them for the white elephant
otherwise I would buy ones on sale that I would personally wear because they were a little
more like everyday sunglasses and they always I feel like people were.
excited to get them. Because don't we all just lose all of our sunglasses? There was one year
that I, someone brought, I don't even know what the bag is called, but it's a bag that collapses
down. Someone will know in the comments that collapses down and was just like a standard tote bag,
but it was very nice and very low key. And I liked it. And I stole it. And then it got stolen from me.
So what I did before I left was I looked it up and I ordered it myself so that I could still
have it because that's on not being a purse person, but knowing when a bag was going to do what I
needed it to do. Things that people, again, not necessarily a specific size that a bunch of people
would enjoy are great gifts. And one last white elephant pro tip here, real ones, if you have your
own white elephant coming up, might I recommend a nice scroll on Amazon? They break down gifts into
categories, which makes it super easy to find what you're looking for. You can also search for specific
price points. Plus, you can pretty much find anything on Amazon and have it delivered right
to your door. And let's be honest, if you forget and you're in a pinch, they probably got
you back. That's it for, can I be honest, brought to you by Amazon coming up. My conversation with Zoe
Deschanel. Also, shout out to our NGL queens for decking out this festive set.
you'll see what I mean.
This episode is brought to you by Olipop.
Before I go any further, I'm going to need to crack one of these right now.
Are you kidding? Are you kidding?
Crisp apple.
Look at the Yeti.
We love Yeties in our house.
Now, as I was saying, the real ones know, I always keep it real about parenting.
And the holidays are always a particularly ridiculous time of year with four kids.
And speaking of, if you listen to the last show, you know our Deadbeat Elf on the shelf is
officially back. Yep, Emmy Nemi is she busy. Sometimes she's busy doing nothing, and sometimes she's
busy decorating like a crazy person. We're not quite sure how she does it, but Wyatt calls it getting
into mischief. That's adorable. It's fun. We're having fun, and so is Olipop, with our 18 flavors
and adorable cans. Seriously, look at that cute Yetty. Look at it. The special holiday Yeti cans
also come in the vintage cola and ginger ale flavors.
You guys already know, I always embrace the chaos,
but it helps to have a short, refreshing moment of calm
with my favorite flavors of olypop.
And get this, you can get a free can of olypop
by any two cans of olypop in store,
and they'll pay you back for one.

If you know just one thing about me,
there's a very good chance.
It's that I have a lot of kids.
Like, I still can't believe I have four tiny humans, four.
I surprise myself every time I say that.
But having four kids plus a husband, a dog, all our extended family and friends,
means I have quite the holiday shopping list, and that's where Amazon comes in clutch.
You can find pretty much anything for anyone right on Amazon.
I do love to scroll Amazon, like a good old doom scroll,
because you get suggestions on the homepage.
Sometimes you're like, you know what?
I did need that.
Thank you for suggesting it.
I also love how Amazon has so many different categories for gifts.
If I'm trying to think of ideas, I've said this before, but my gift giving skills could use some
improvement. Plus, you guys already know, I love a good deal. And with Amazon's holiday deals,
I've been way ahead of the game this year. Not only can you find anything for anyone on Amazon,
you can also have it delivered right to your door, which is so nice to not have to pack the kids up
and go out shopping. Head to Amazon.com and shop holiday deals now. If you didn't already know,
I'm a serious germaphobe. That's a big understatement. My kids know they have to wash their hands
immediately when they come through the door. Honestly, do not bring your school germs into this house.
Ew. Ew. Luckily, CVS always has me covered with everything I need to keep my family healthy.
And you know I'm constantly stocking up on hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes right on the CBS Health
app. The CBS Health app is a single place to handle health care needs for the entire family.
It makes the whole healthcare experience simpler and more convenient, especially for busy parents.
The CVS health app helps me refill, track, and manage our prescription needs any time.
There have been a number of times in my life where CVS has just transferred my prescription.
When I've been down the shore and I've forgotten something, you can pick it up really anywhere.
They are so incredibly helpful in the pharmacy, but I also go there for just everyday essentials as well.
You can also quickly find care from qualified providers and schedule minute clinic appointments for vaccines, sports, physicals, and more.
I've been getting my flu shot from CBS for quite some time.
I'm going to continue to do that.
I actually had the pleasure of meeting with some of the CVS team.
Shout out to Talak.
He thought I wouldn't sneak his name into the episode, but here we are, so that I could tell them about how much I've loved CVS for really my whole life.
It's been our pharmacy in my family for a very long time.
It's the only pharmacy in our Shoretown.
We're CVS through and through.

Our guest today is the Emmy Golden Globe and Grammy-nominated actress known for her iconic roles in Elf, 500 Days of Summer, and my favorite TV show of all time, New Girl.
And now you can also watch her in her newest holiday movie, Merv, out now on Prime Video.
She's also a fellow mom, an animal lover, and she's officially not going to lie, Zoe Deschanel,
Welcome to the show.
Thank you for having me.
This is so exciting.
I rewatch New Girl every spring.
I love that about you.
Every single spring.
That is amazing.
I have shows that I watch in season.
New Girl is a spring show.
I can't explain it.
It makes total sense.
I think you're right.
And I watch it start to finish every time.
I love that.
That's so great.
And we're matching Band-Its.
And we have matching Band-Eys.
Look at this.
Yeah. Big fan. My dad is, I have to give in a picture here. My dad, Big Ed, he's called Big Ed because he's
six foot nine, big guy. Union electrician, like grew up in Philadelphia. He's really, he's a character.
My family's from Philly too. Have we, did we talk about this yet? No. Did you know that?
No. This is, this is groundbreaking information. Like my family came over on a land grant from William Penn
in the 1600s. Love is so much. Get deep.
Pennsylvania.
Yes.
Yes.
Uh-huh.
So you have Philly roots.
Deep Philly roots.
Love it.
Yeah.
We will circle back to New Girl because I have a lot of questions.
Okay.
I have the answers.
I love that.
But first, since we're in this winter wonderland of a set and it's Christmas time, I'm going to start with Elf, if that's okay.
Please.
But also, can I just, this artwork is really great.
Who did that artwork?
My children.
They did a really good job.
For their ages, yeah.
Further ages.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
We watch Elf every year in our house.
I think most households do.
I saw you say that your daughter has finally started to show some interest in watching Elf.
Has she watched it yet this year?
No, she hasn't.
I think she wanted to have like some friends over to watch it.
I was like, I won't watch it with you because that's weird.
But I, but yeah, it's cute because they love rom-com.
these 10-year-olds like they love rom-coms um so i was like yeah i think they'll enjoy it i think
they'll enjoy this new film i have out murv um it's pg so kids can watch it so i was like happy
about that um but yeah i think i think she'll enjoy it my son no interest um he loves movies
but he i think he wants mommy to be mommy and sure not like an actor that's fair he's fine with
like voices and cartoons but he's like weird you're here and that's yeah he's like no he wants to
divide yeah fair enough exactly yeah it also feels like every year there's a viral
tweet about how someone didn't recognize you as jovie with your blonde hair yes uh do you hear
that a lot like do people give you that feedback of forgetting or not realizing that it was you
yeah i have a face that changes dramatic
dramatically with makeup and hair changes.
So like hair color changes, like no bangs.
I look like a different person.
I think I feel like I would be a good CIA agent, like if I weren't an actor.
But also I don't have the nervous system for it.
I wouldn't.
But I do change a lot.
Like if you put a wig on me, I really look different.
And I'm not tall, so you might not notice me.
So that's where I can stick out like a sore thumb.
Well, it's amazing because then everybody's like, who's this beautiful tall lady?
But if you're short, you're sneaking in.
Sneaking in.
That's where Jonathan being tall, everyone looks at him.
And then they go, oh, look, it's the property brother.
And I'm like, you're ruining everything for me.
I can be incognito.
Hey, look at me down here.
Like, he.
That's, you just have to do what I do to my mother-in-law in an NFL stadium, which is go,
oh my gosh is that mama kelsey and then i run the opposite direction and just like sick everybody on
her is she taught short she's tall she's she's almost i i would say she's probably 510 maybe 511
okay yeah but it's great i mean it's a spectacle yeah but it's great for me because i don't like to be
the center of attention so i just like hey is that yeah is that Travis's mom and then just run wow
yeah it's great everyone's tall in your family yeah except my mom five foot two
Oh my God. My mom's five foot two as well. My dad's six, two. And then my sister's five, nine. And then I'm five four. So we're kind of like all different times. You have, you have sides of the family kind of. Yeah. Yeah. My dad's side is all pretty tall. I think my grandma's like five, ten or something like that. So yeah. So yeah. Tall and my mom's family short. So yeah. The Philly roots. The family roots is the tall. It's some in the water. Yeah. Or in the water. You get it. You get it. You are. You are from Philly roots.
Okay.
Now, since we're talking holiday movies, you mentioned you have a brand new one out now on Prime Video called Merv.
Yes.
It just came out last night.
So real ones, you know what to do.
First of all, as a dog lover, thank you for this movie.
Now, I've been trying to get our Irish will found to be a set dog.
Oh, my God.
We actually got clearance to bring her to this set.
But she's working on it.
Okay.
You know what?
She also peed in our minivan this morning.
It's a whole thing.
But she's also huge.
They're very big dogs.
She's very big.
Which is also my love of Wolfhounds.
Yeah.
Merv with the Scruff.
Scruff.
So cute.
A wiry coat is so good.
I love a wiry dog.
Yeah.
Now, how was it working on set with the trained dog?
Oh, he's unbelievable.
professional. He's such a pro. He actually works at Universal Studios in Florida, like doing, like he can do
so much cool stuff. He's a rescue dog. His name's Gus. He's such a good boy. He, like, we were doing
press with him this morning. And he was, like, sitting there, like, perfectly. And there's, like,
they had, like, a treat by the camera. But he's just such a sweet dog. He's very calm. Like, he's special.
know, like, we actually would have to, because he kind of doesn't get like, you know how dogs
will get like excited.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He kind of, he's more like dignified, you know.
Sure.
And so when we'd have to get a dog to be kind of like wild and dog like, like the kind of
dog that he's in your minivan.
Yes.
We'd have to bring in his stunt double whose name was Captain Chaos.
And Captain Chaos was like.
Is that his government name?
I don't know.
They called him Captain Chaos.
Got it.
Okay.
Because he was chaotic.
It was chaotic. Yeah.
One of my favorite movie genres is definitely the holiday rom-com.
Yes.
Then this is for you.
Love actually in the holiday are all-timers for me.
Yes.
What was it about Merv that made you want to do another holiday rom-com?
Well, I didn't even realize it was a holiday movie when I read it.
I just thought it was a rom-com and I love rom-coms.
And I just, I don't think people are making enough of them.
And I'm like, this is a genre.
I love to.
I love to do rom-coms.
I love that it has like this mix of like, like, it's like character-driven.
It's, it's like a piece where you can really like have, you know, interesting characters.
And then the fact that it's at the holidays, to me, I thought of it like this.
When you think of a guy eating alone on a Tuesday, you're like, that's kind of sad.
But maybe you won't see it alone.
Then you think of a guy eating alone on Christmas.
Then you go, oh my God, I feel so bad.
Infinitely sadder.
It heightens your emotions.
Like talking about love actually in the holiday.
Like I love those films because they have this Christmas element, but they also have like a depth to them.
And I think this film, it's very funny, but it also has a depth to it that I really connect with.
And I think for me makes the rom-com so much sweeter, you know.
Yes. Now, speaking of animals, just from a quick scroll of your TikTok, I can tell that you also
love cats. Yes, I have three. Mm-hmm. I love my kitties. I want to take every opportunity
on this podcast that I possibly can to try and influence my husband. Yes. Get cats. To get a cat.
Oh my gosh. You, okay, I'm going to tell you, I have like super affectionate cats.
Love this. And so we had two dogs that we loved, a Chihuahua and a Yorkie, and they were Jonathan's
when we met. And they were very old and then they passed away, which we were very sad and had a little
hole in our hearts for our, you know, animals. But we didn't want a dog because they're another
dog just because it's a lot to take on. Yes. So I'd always wanted a cat, but my parents were
allergic when I was growing up. And so I'd never gotten one. And then my daughter, our daughter,
had been asking for a cat
since she was like 18 months old
like basically since she could say
cat she'd be like I don't like dog
I like cats she's like I like cats more
like it was so cute and her Christmas list
every year would be like cat
cat get a cat it would be like summer bucket list
get a cat like everything was cats
and so finally I was like can we get this
Jonathan was a little bit like
skeptical about cats
can we get you know can we get a cat
and I was like I think we need to get
two because they need to keep each other company.
Then we ended up with three.
But they are...
That's cat math.
Yes, exactly.
Cat math.
They are super affectionate.
They're so sweet.
Jonathan loves them now.
That's...
That's the key.
She's a total cat dad.
Love it.
And the thing is they are so low maintenance.
Okay.
Now, I would love it if you could put out a plea to my husband.
Okay.
If you could do it direct to camera, just like a quick...
Just like, hey, Jason, yeah, cats are it.
Hey, Jason, cats are it.
What I want you to know about them is they're basically like dogs, but they're, they have liquid bodies.
They have like liquid bodies, or like maybe like a dog with a slinky as a spine.
They're super fun and athletic and they play fun games and they're so sweet.
and I'll send you guys a video of my cat dove.
She, like, rolls over and, like, every time if I try to leave,
she'd get up against the door and, like, roll over, and it's so cute.
And she licks my hand just like a dog.
So you got to get a cat.
They're so sweet.
This is very good.
Two.
We got to get two.
You can't have one.
You can't have one.
You can't have one.
You get two or three.
It was no different having a third cat.
No different.
I love this.
Also, like, dogs are so great, but sometimes they can be overwhelming.
And if they're big and they're jumping up.
a lot. It's like cats are totally different energy and they have a lot more calm energy.
Well, I live about cats too. Oh, here's another reason, Jason. It's cats are great for kids
because it's taught my son is like tons of energy and it's taught him, like, it's taught him
how to be calm in a great way because the cats only will come up when you're chilling.
When they're chilling. And my daughter's a bit more chill than my son. And so it's great to teach
kids how to regulate their emotions. So my son would get in and he'd be like so excited to see the cats
and he'd be like, hey, and then they just run away. But then when he walks in calm, then they'll
come up and climb in his lap and cuddle him. The first time they came up and cuddle him, it was like,
I was about to cry. It was so sweet because he was so happy. Oh, I would cry. Yeah, it taught him.
Like, you know, he has that like boy energies like super, you know, kind of like up and excited.
him for the calm. They rewarded him for coming in calm. Are you kidding? Yeah. I would cry.
Yeah. That would get me. Yeah. Yeah. I was missed. Yeah. Okay. Now, shifting gears to the main event here.
For me, as a fan girl, as I mentioned earlier, I've watched New Girl. I can't even tell you how many times all the way through.
It's one of my favorite TV shows. I love this so much. So first and maybe most important question for you, when are we getting more?
I don't know. I will totally.
do it though. I'm in. I've said it. I'm in. Let's do it. Let's do it. We'll have to do it. Jake
doesn't, Jake Johnson doesn't really like to like leave his house much. So we might have to like
film it at his house. But new set. I think he would do it if we filmed at his house one day a week.
This can this sounds super doable. Okay, great. It's doable. Great. Please. Dear God, do it. Is there going
to be a reunion maybe?
also at his house we don't have anything planned but like again i'm up for it okay yeah all right so
i just need to like rally the troops just rally the troops got it yeah um i'm also a sucker for bloopers
and yeah the bloopers you guys had from the show was oh well we were so tired let me tell you
we work 16 17 hours some days is that that's not normal not normal we work like twice a normal
work shift yes um and then have to drive home
and I remember there were times where we were like we'd been doing those hours and then we'd do a six day week or something and it would be like 6 a.m. on Sunday morning and then we'd have to be like, we have a pickup from last week's episode that we have to like cut in and we'd be like falling, like literally falling asleep or like our body, your body just like stops working at a certain level of tiredness. It's like there's not enough coffee in the world. Actually, since your mom, you'll get this. When I was pregnant,
with my daughter and it was like before I could tell anyone and we were doing one of these like
crazy marathon night shoes and I couldn't you know they were like you can only have one cup of coffee
I was like I don't know how I'm gonna get through this I was drinking orange juice okay not the same
get the sugar up the sugar the caffeine yeah caffeine was like no wow yeah it was a lot that must
have stung yeah but so the bloopers are great because we were unbelievably delirious we're delirious
And we did have so much fun.
You could tell.
We had so much fun.
How hard was it to not laugh?
So it's funny because I remember first season.
Like we got better at it.
First season I remember everyone cracking up, like crew, everyone.
And I remember the boom mic that we had this boom operator named Val.
And then I would be like, oh, Val's laughing because it'd be shaking.
And they'd be like, like, that was the best.
I would be like, we got the crew to let.
Like, if the crew laughs, you know it's great.
You know it's funny.
Like, funny is if people laugh and it's a validation.
So it was very nice.
That's amazing.
You guys also had so many amazing guest stars over the years.
Oh, my God, yeah.
Does anyone stand out as your favorite?
I know you were just talking about Prince.
Well, Prince, Taylor Swift.
I mean, Rob Reiner and Jamie Lee Curtis.
I mean, we had so, it was crazy.
The list is so impressive.
I mean, Quinta Brunson came in and did a tiny part before she did Abbott Elementary.
We had like amazing.
It was, our casting directors were incredible.
They just, they found people before they were well known too.
So that was, that was pretty cool.
Oh, Olivia Rodriguez was on when she was like 13.
she was just a child actor and I remember her because I was pregnant with my son and my daughter was a baby like in my trailer and I was like and she she kept asking me questions about my daughter I was like this kid's so sweet she keeps asking me questions and then I was like and then later when she became famous you're like she looks familiar yeah brought up all these things and I'm like that she was like a child actor on my show that is like a lot of people it was
It was pretty cool.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So if we bring it back.
Yeah.
We have to have everyone come back.
That would honestly be very cool.
It would be very cool.
Yeah.
Let's do that.
Yeah.
Seems very good.
Queen Emma, my producer is asking, oh, what episode was my favorite?
And I don't think, I feel like that's like picking your favorite child.
Oh.
What, yeah, what's your, do you have a favorite?
I don't.
Do you have any, like, do you have like a top 10 or anything or a top five?
when when jess and nick get together when you guys get together that was like oh yeah that's
cooler it was such a build that that that i remember shooting that episode that um like everyone
came it felt like everyone was on set the other time actually here's another good um guest star
we had tay digs on and he took his shirt off and like all of a sudden everyone was on set
and i was like we had like people from accounting
I'd never met and they were like they were and I was like oh hi I was like I'm Zoe like who are you
and like oh I'm in accounting they're like um I'm like why are you here and they're like um
we are dated oh my god okay that's actually amazing it was yeah it was like we had a full like
audience that day um but yeah during that cooler episode we had everyone just wanted to be there
when Nick and Jess got together we were trying to figure out like the best way the most like
I was like, what if I walk away and he grabs my hand?
I was like, that's better, you know?
And then everybody was trying to come up with like the best kiss, you know?
Yeah.
An episode I love from the first season that every time I go back to it, I'm like, oh, that
was so much fun.
It feels like a movie almost was the wedding episode.
Natasha Leone, another amazing guest star we had on that episode.
The best part is, is like, when I still rewatch it.
Yeah.
I still laugh out loud.
Like the parts that made me laugh, they still get me.
They still, like, sneak up on you.
I love that.
It's the best.
That's so great.
I think it's like my ADHD.
I can, like, disassociate enough that it just leaves my brain.
I have ADHD, too.
It's great.
Yeah, we're having fun.
It's called object permanent.
No object permanence, right?
Yes.
That's why a lot of my snacks live on the counter.
Otherwise, I forget them and then I don't eat them.
Me too.
Well, I realize, it's like, if I don't see it, it doesn't exist.
I realize that thing is like when people be like, well, I got into a habit.
I'm like, no.
I have to see it.
That's why all the things must be out.
Yes.
That's why my skin care is like takes over.
My side of the sink is so ridiculous.
My side is now on Jason's side.
It is a whole, there aren't sides anymore.
It is just a full.
It's just full, all the stuff.
Jonathan's like, he's so nice.
And he'll be very tolerant of my skin care.
And it'll be like, um, are you like?
going to maybe edit.
Put some of this away.
No, because then I'll like forget.
Like this one's, I'm really trying to be good about this one.
This episode is brought to you by Toyota.
Who would have thought that almost a year ago when I reluctantly admitted that
minivans were in for 2025 that I'd be here now talking about how much I love the Sienna's
vacuum and all the cup holders and the kick sensor doors and the trunk space.
Speaking of which, you know what you can hide in the trunk?
Gifts.
And it's so deep.
Your kids will never find it.
hopefully you will still find it because sometimes I hide gifts from myself like I hide them so well
that even I can't find them I get that from my mama it's also December in Philly so the all-wheel
drive is already coming in handy plus I'm driving around running more errands and going to more places
than ever this time of year so I do have to appreciate that 36 miles per gallon try to suffer gas
when you have a car full of kids oh my gosh no if you're thinking about also surrendering to the
minivan life. I feel you. And also recommend a chest drive of a Toyota Sienna at your local
Toyota dealer. To learn more about the Toyota Sienna, go to Toyota.com backslash Sienna. The real ones
know I love telling you about my favorite things, especially things that bring me the few moments
of chill I have in my life right now, like my favorite warm cup of Bigelotay. I usually do this
around the four o'clock range.
You know, when the first burst of the day is really taking it out of you,
it's that afternoon slump.
You know, it brings them back up, a cup of Bigelow Earl Grey tea.
And also, I get to tell my kids, don't pump into mom.
You can't snow on my lap right now.
I have a hot cup of tea.
So if you're touched out, great time to have a cup of tea.
You know what I mean?
I love the Earl Grey.
It is my ultimate favorite, but I also love their green tea.
It's delicious and refreshing.
Sometimes you can even brew it, and then when you forget about it, pour it over some ice,
you can still enjoy it because moms know, sometimes you forget that you are making a cup of tea.
If you're dealing with the chaos of this holiday season like we are,
I highly suggest taking a moment for yourself, maybe brew a cup of Bigelow Earl Grey and put on New Girl.
Whether it's with my mom over a cup of Earl Grey or finally getting five minutes to myself after bedtime,
Bigelow tea has always been part of the moments that keep me grounded.
Bigelow tea, take a moment just for you.

Head to Macy's.com today. Since I seriously talk about New Girl all the time, and we love a pop
quiz around here, my producer, Queen Emma thought it would be funny. Okay. This is her being funny.
If I played around of New Girl trivia, it says against you, I think this is going to end up.
You're going to know it better. No, you're going to know it better than me because I haven't. It leaves my
brain. Watched it since. I haven't watched it since the spring. Okay. But. Okay. Let's
see what we got here. Okay. All right. We're going to get cards and everything. Okay. It's very exciting.
It's like we're a game show host. Oh, yes, we are. I'll let you go first because you're the guest.
Oh, okay. I'm so worried because Queen Emma did say that she did not take it easy on us. Oh my God.
Okay. Okay. Okay. The drinking game, True American, is featured in multiple episodes. The rules change,
but it consistently starts with everyone shouting three letters. I actually,
know the answer to this, even if I didn't look at it, because I made it up.
We all did.
That is a question I did have for you.
Yeah.
I know that people have like since compiled the rules online when I was a, when I was an
R.A. in college.
Yeah.
The apartment across the hall, you could hear them playing because you would hear this.
Oh my God.
And it was so clear, but you would walk in and they had written down the rules and put them
above the kitchen yeah naturally yeah college decor I love do you want to guess this and then
i can't say um I it's the it's the initials of a president yes I think that it's jfk yes and then
everyone chants back FDR yeah okay great yeah so so we were all like it was kind of the original
way it was written was just like they do a bunch of you know it was like it didn't it it didn't
say all that stuff and I like American history. So I was like, oh, what if we shout JFK and then
FDR and then George Washington Cherry Tree? Like we're all, all that stuff we, that was all we made
it up. Okay. In season three, Winston takes his cheating girlfriend's cat. What is the name of his
cat? Ferguson is the name of the cat. This is the thing that sucked. I freaking love cats and I never
got to work with Ferguson and Winston. Lamorne hates cats and had to constantly work with
this cat okay um just and just ended her date with robbie with a punch in the arm and a handshake
this form of departure is called a the philly fuck you b Cleveland sign off see the Pittsburgh goodbye
or d the the old Topeka one too is it C yes yes you knew another Pennsylvania right I was like
it's definitely not Philly but that
might be scratching a Pennsylvania itch.
Yeah.
In season six, Nick gets a tattoo of Schmidt and Cece,
inspired by which classic rom-com?
I would not have had this.
Wait, sorry.
Nick gets a tattoo.
Of a classic rom-com?
Of Schmidt and Cece inspired by which classic rom-com.
Oh, my God.
I don't remember him getting a tattoo at all.
Can we see a picture of the tattoo?
Oh, it's from Pretty Woman?
It's from Pretty Woman.
Yeah.
Okay.
That's, I didn't remember that.
I only got back because we might have to type pretty woman into Google.
No.
Okay.
In the episode titled Cece's Boys, Schmidt accidentally books the guys this service, something your husband, Jason Kelsey, if you forgot his name, has said he refuses to do.
I mean, rightfully so he refuses to do this.
Yeah.
He shouldn't want to do this.
Is it a Brazilian?
Yes.
Okay.
Nobody wants to do that.
He's on record saying he will not get his ass crack waxed.
He did get the rest of himself waxed.
Okay.
Was that for sports reasons?
No, it was because he was going to wear, he lost a bet and he had to wear a speedo at a guest bartending event.
Yeah.
Waxing is painful.
Yeah.
But I said to him if you're going to do it, don't do it.
Half-ass, pun intended.
Do it full.
Get in there.
Get in there.
He didn't.
Yeah.
Whatever, Jason.
Get a cat.
You lost the bet.
What name did the roommates call Schmidt when they were pretending only three people lived in the loft?
A, jilly.
Oh.
B. Ginny.
C. Jetty or D. Poopie.
I think Ginny was it.
You're correct.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yes.
That is correct.
Okay.
In season two finale, in the season two finale, Taylor Swift plays a character who crashes Cece's wedding.
Yes.
What is the name of Taylor's character?
Oh, no.
It's actually the name of the episode.
She's in the name of the episode, actually.
I love how you have all of the episode names.
Yeah, I do.
Locked in.
That's very impressive.
I have a very good memory for specific things.
And then there will be things that just like aren't.
important to me. But if it's like usually I'll remember meeting people and where we stood and
what kind of what they're wearing and what it looked like. Yes. I don't know if everyone is like
that, but that's kind of how my brain works. Yeah. I don't think I would, I don't think I would
know. Okay. Elaine. Oh, I would have never gotten that. Okay. Okay. You remember now.
Of course. How does Jess respond when Nick tells her he loves her for the first time?
I love this so much.
Does she say like, bye or something like that?
It's a gesture.
I'll give you, it's a gesture.
And it involves both hands.
I think there's like a very, there's.
I can picture the moment.
I know where we were when we shot that part.
I don't remember what I did, but I remember we were outside the, um, in the alley.
Not me preparing for that.
Yeah.
Okay, tell me.
Oh, yes, those.
Just a casual fingerguns.
Finger guns, right, because that plays big in the Prince episode.
Yes.
Uh-huh.
Yeah.
She didn't know what to say.
Yep.
She needed Prince to coach her through.
Yes.
To have a makeover montage.
Prince actually brought a suitcase full of his clothes because he wanted a makeover montage
with his clothes and me to wear them.
And he was literally my size.
he was the same size as me.
Do you ever like when you say sentences like that out loud?
Do you ever have a moment of like, what?
Excuse me?
Yeah, totally because I was talking about it just a couple days ago on the Tonight Show.
And I was like, wait, what?
And then I have this thing where I'm not like afraid to talk to anybody.
Like I can talk to anyone because I'm, I just always have chit chat in my heart.
And not that there aren't people who are like standoffish.
And I'm like, that person doesn't want to talk.
Yes.
Leave him alone.
But I, but if need be, I can talk to anyone.
And I remember they were like, everyone was like really intimidated by Prince.
He had such a presence.
Like he walked.
He was like five foot four.
But he was like, he had like this perfect posture.
And he would just sit and he was like so, he had so much mystique.
And everyone was so intimidated by him.
And then they were like, Zoe, you go talk to him.
And I was like, okay.
So I ended up like hanging out with him like the whole day, night.
shoot um and um yeah he was so cool but i was just like you're talking to brins you're talking to
prince like i love it um oh we don't have to do the tiebreaker because we have it um i feel
like this is a technicality it says that i won by one point but i think this is a technicality
because the tattoo was we went rogue no it's totally fine because i knew you would win because
you've seen it a lot more than me.
Well, that's fair.
But you were actually there.
I was.
You know what?
I didn't, there were like episodes I didn't watch later, you know, especially when the years
where I was pregnant and then had a baby and then had a baby.
The last four seasons, it was like pregnant, baby, pregnant, baby.
And those seasons I wasn't going back and watching all the time as much.
I would maybe like see my scenes, but I didn't always see like stuff with Winston or, you know,
like if he had storylines without me or stuff with Schmidt or.
Nick, if they had story or CC, like, if they all had storylines that I wasn't in, I probably
didn't see them in because I wasn't shooting them. Also, like, amnesia. It's the motherhood
amnesia. Thank you so much for coming today. Thank you so much for having me. This has been
incredible. Philly. I love it. I know. I cannot wait. I mean, we should just drag you,
like, you should just come back to. Do you live in Philly? Yes. We live just outside. I drove up here
today. I love it so much. And I don't have any, like, family left there. Do you come there at all?
I haven't been, because like my dad grew up there, but like, where did he grow up? Do you know?
He grew up actually in Swarthmore, but my grandma's like, near us. Oh, it is. Yes. So we live just
outside the city. Oh, okay. Swarthmore is one of the like earlier exits. Okay, well, you come back to Philly
whenever you want. You can come visit us whenever you want. I love that because I actually haven't been
a long time and I really like it. Does this mean you're a birds fan by proxy? Like you're, you, it's just
I don't know anything. You can just be a birds fan. Can you can assign me any.
this is actually the great thing about me in sports if you want an extra fan i don't know if they
need extra fans but if you love more we strength and numbers let's make me a you have philly roots
so that automatically like we joke around like philly people we say we bleed green like it's just like
how we were raised yeah so as long as you can say go birds you're in go birds yeah and then if
anyone ever tries to get you to enjoy anything related to the cowboys you tell them fuck no they're
from Dallas, right?
Correct.
You nailed that.
Thank you.
You have all the information you need.
Yes.
I have all the information I need.
I also grew up in a place without a football team.
Like LA most of the time, you know, didn't have a football team.
So I need one.
We will adopt you.
This is perfect.
Thank you.
Go birds.
Go birds.
We'll enjoy some tasty cakes.
Butterscotch crumpets.
They're the best.
They're the best.
My dad would have them like shipped out for special occasions.
Yes.
Every year my dad breaks Lent with a tasty cake, eat Claire pie.
And I give them to him because he gives up sweets for the entire time of Lent.
Because I grew up Catholic, I started giving up shopping for Lent.
And it was actually like a really great.
It's really hard.
That sounds very challenging.
It's so challenging.
And then, but then sometimes I go way too hard after.
Make up for lost time.
Does this count?
Well, but it's good.
This is good.
give up stuff sometimes. Okay, well, if you ever need a shipment of butterscotch crampets,
I will send them to you in a heartbeat. You're the best. Thank you. This is great. And we'll get you
to Philly. Okay. I love it. And go birds. And go birds. And go birds. And that's a wrap on this
episode of Not Gonna Lie. You can find even more clips for my longer conversation with Zoe on my
YouTube channel on More Ship Monday. I'll be back next Thursday with our season one finale.
Don't worry real ones. You won't have to wait long for season two. Follow Not Gonna Lie on all social
media. Once again, if you haven't seen me, meet some of my favorite animals at the zoo yet. Check out
Fafo, episode two right now on the NGL YouTube channel. It has its own little playlist.
Also, please don't forget to submit your firehouse suggestions for the hydration heroes
donation from our partners at Liquid IV in the comments of that video. A firehouse will be chosen
on December 18th. Listen and subscribe wherever you get your podcast. Not going to lie, as a wave
original, brought to you by Olipop, a new kind of soda. Thanks again to the real ones for tuning in.
Wow, I powered through that.
That was like I was professional.
