Starting point is 00:00:00 The following podcast is a dear media production. This is Not Skinny but Not Fat, and I'm your host, Amanda, bringing you the latest in all celebrity gossip, reality TV recaps, and anything happening in Hollywood right now that I just can't keep my mouth shut about. This is Not Skinny, but Not Fat. Ashley, I is in, well, I was going to say the motherfucker in house, but she's in Jaden Tanner's house. Yes, I am. How are you? What's up, Ashley? Not much, you know, just had a tiara on for a little while, and I ate a lot of plastic food.
Starting point is 00:00:49 And I had a check-up by Dr. Emmy Tolbert. It was fun. She's three. She's so cute. So insanely pretty. I'm like, can I trade faces with you? And also. Can we talk about how bougie you guys are that like the men are golfing and like what's happening? Jared is obsessed with golfing. So he found a two time for Tanner and him. And this like makes his day.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Like he's a whole different person when he comes back home from golfing. He like needs to get this male urge of sport and competitiveness and like activity to make him happy. I grew up in a house full of like, it was just me, my sister, my mom and my dad. I never grew up with a guy close enough to know, like, they need this to, like, exert energy every day. And it's, it's a weird adjustment. And golf is the vibe. Like, like, isn't it boring a a little bit? I don't know. I've never played, but he's never invited you. No, he does want me to come and play. But these days, they don't have the golf carts, which he thinks would be fun for me. And I do too. It probably would be fun.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Yeah, you would. But because of COVID, they're, like, not letting people drive golf cars because it's supposed to, like, wipe them down afterward. So I have not gone yet this summer. But all I'd go and hit balls with him at the driving range. Does he have, like, a country club membership? No, no, no, no. No.
Starting point is 00:02:15 I always thought you had to be a part of a country club, too. But you don't. You just, like, sign up online. Like, they have a whole bunch. They have, like, a scheduled sheet. And you can play anywhere for, well, a range of money. But, like, when he was in Rhode Island, it was. was like $20 to play.
Starting point is 00:02:32 And you guys are back in L.A. I know you were quarantining at, was it at your parents' house that you were quarantining for a while? Yes. So we were at my parents for a total of 13 weeks. And then we did drive up to Rhode Island for two weeks and stayed with his parents for, yeah. So wait, so your parents also East Coast.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Yeah. They're in northern Virginia. So it's like a six hours drive. Oh, my geez. And you decided to do it because of like COVID and all that? Well, we had the scheduled trip after bachelor season. Like, we have to be pretty much in L.A. for, like, all bachelor season. So afterward, we planned a trip to, like, go see my parents for, like, 10 days and then
Starting point is 00:03:09 his parents for 10 days. But then we kind of knew that there was a good chance we'd be, quote, stuck there. But we really enjoyed it. And we knew that we'd rather be on the East Coast if a quarantine did happen. So we got on, like, a plane, like, the last few days where it was, like, appropriate. Yeah. And then stayed there for a long time. But we're really glad we got time with our family that, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:34 I can't ever imagine having that amount of quality time again. Yeah, you put up a post that was like, you know, basically thanking Jared for surviving 13 weeks within, it isn't easy. It really is. Like it ain't even if you, even if your family is like the best family ever, it's not easy.
Starting point is 00:03:53 No, I really don't know how he did it because like I love his parents. They're the best. They are so easy. But at two weeks, I was like, okay, I need, like, to be an adult again, you know? Yeah. And also you have to get dressed. Like, he can't just be in his, like, boxers or whatever.
Starting point is 00:04:13 I need to have sticky nippies whenever I go into, like, a family room, you know? Because, like, I can't be walking around with my nips showing with it around his dad. So, wait, do you put sticky nippies or, like, a bra? Depends on the day. I was going to say that, but I didn't know, you know, if you're the same as me. But that's, like, my number one most hated thing of visiting my husband's family is, like, the bra. Because, like, it's like, I wake up. And it's like, to get out of the room, I have to put on a bra.
Starting point is 00:04:45 It's the worst thing ever. It is really funny. Okay, guys, if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I've been using native deodorant. I was looking for an aluminum-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, natural deodorant that will actually work and will feel good and won't be wet and sticky or all these weird things because I've tried a lot of natural deodorants. But Native is the best. I use the coconut and vanilla flavor, but they have a lot of other great flavors. That's just my favorite. They have lavender and rose, cucumber and mint, citrus and herbal.
Starting point is 00:05:25 And like I said, there's no compromise here. using a better deodorant for you, since we know aluminum is bad for you. Parenthoods are bad for you. Sulfates are bad for you. And you're not compromising on stinking or, you know, sweating or whatever. So make the switch to native deodorant like I did and get 20% off by going to native deo, like deodorant, deo, nativedo.com slash not skinny or use promo code not skinny at checkout and get 20% off your.
Starting point is 00:05:57 your first order. That's a lot. That's nativedeo.com slash not skinny or use promo code, not skinny at checkout for 20% off your first order. Anyway, you're back in L.A. How does it, how does it feel? I actually read a lot about and know about you that you guys, your family's on the East Coast, like you said. And in general, it seems like a thing that is kind of hard to maneuver for you guys. It's like not even corona related, but kind of like where you're going to raise your babies one day and all that. Yeah, we plan, like if all goes according to our plan, we'll probably have like a kid out here and stay in L.A. for like a year. And then as soon as like that second one is on its way, you know.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Oh, wow. You're really planning. Then we'll be going to Rhode Island because I put it in my vows. We moved back to Rhode Island. And it's just an hour flight from my parents. But yeah, we're very family-oriented. We love the East Coast. It's definitely most our vibe. But I love L.A.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Jared doesn't love L.A. But we like our apartment and the work's good out here when Corona is not a thing. Right. But when Corona's a thing, you can do so much of your work, like not having to be. Yeah. Right? Right. So we came back because I just felt so weird leaving our apartment for over three months.
Starting point is 00:07:24 and like we had so much mail and like packages and it's just I just wanted to get things organized I wanted to get some California Botox you know like the good kind yeah I was like I'm not risking it with anyone there and plus it's weird like Botox is so expensive on the East Coast because like I think it's like a supply and demand thing it's like the supply and the demand is so high in LA that like you know you freeze your forehead for like $250. In Virginia, my sister went to go get Botox in Virginia. It costs her $750 just for her forehead.
Starting point is 00:08:03 And how much is it in L.A.? 250? Where are you? Wait, I'm in NYC. Oh, okay. Well, how much is it? Well, I don't get it yet. You don't get it yet. How old are you? 32. Oh, look, you're lucky. You don't have much movement up there.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Why, you had? You had a lot? Or were you just, like, influenced to get it? Because everyone gets it. No, no. I got it. before there was any sort of peer pressure to get it. Like I walked into the dermatologist office at 26 and I was like, yo, my forehead is an accordion. It's distracting how much. I need to go back and check. I feel like you're exaggerating. It's not an exaggeration. And like, you know, an hour in, it was all etched into my makeup. Then after that, everybody started doing like preventative no tax and stuff but I'm like no like I was 26 and like actually needed it if I hadn't
Starting point is 00:08:55 not had it on The Bachelor people would have been distracted by my forehead wait this was before even Chris's season yeah right before I got oh so before you were on TV yeah that's interesting because a lot of I feel like people that were on the Bachelor like maybe watch themselves on the show and then we're like oh yeah I need to get something I was like I walk into the Durham. I was like, I know you guys probably think I'm a nut. I know I'm young, but this has got to be fixed. And they're like, you just did your forehead then? Yeah. Yeah. Oh my God. I don't know why it's like, well, maybe one day. You're like not. You're fine. You're one of like the friends that I would say like, if you get it, you're ridiculous. Because I have a couple friends where I'm like, why do you do it? And then
Starting point is 00:09:42 there's some friends. Because I feel like some people that just do it now because like everyone's doing it. A lot of people do. And those people just shouldn't. That's stupid. Just save your money until like you start seeing it get etched in. And then like fillers and stuff, do you do that? Honestly, yes, I've done them and I have now sworn them off. Because you have full lips anyway. Well, the last one I injected my lips was two years ago. And it's a college and builder over time, kind of. So they're just kind of naturally full now. But there's not really anything. in them. Because people on The Bachelor, more than I feel like other reality shows, like really love the fillers. Do you know what I mean? Like, that's what it seems like. Like, I don't know
Starting point is 00:10:28 enough about it. Like you can tell, I don't even know like really much about Botox. But I'm like, okay, does every single person on The Bachelor have like cheekbones and like the chin? I don't know. It's starting to kind of look like everyone. I lie. I do still get my chin injected. I like my chin. My chin is like. Pointeer. Pointier. It's perfect with the filler in it. But I don't even think about it because it's not even like that. It doesn't look like filler there. I think it starts to look like filler when you put it in the apple. When it's here. Yeah. It's not. And why do they say to do that so you look younger? Like what's the point of this if it's bigger? I need to know these things. I have this. So like I go back and forth because I am like stupid. And sometimes I'll just be like, yeah, put it in my cheeks. And then I always regret it. So Jared, you know, my husband is now that he's learning like about my aesthetic life he's like I don't care get all the Botox all the facials don't get filler because there's this one time that I came out and my cheeks were just gigantic and he was like he didn't want to look at me for two days he's like
Starting point is 00:11:34 the only time he's like that was like divorce he was like that's wait but how long does it take to go away then if you like don't like it was really puffy from like numbing and just like inflammation for a couple days. And then it really went down. But when it was puffy, he was so scared. But back to your question, I'm like a little expert on this. My other calling was being a dermatologist. And my suggestion to girls is like in your 20s and 30s,
Starting point is 00:12:04 don't get the apple of your cheek injected. If you need a little more cheek bone, go right in for the bone. Don't get numbing. Because numbing can really puff you up and freak you out. And it doesn't hurt that bad. So don't freak yourself out with the numbing. Just get a little bit in your cheekbone. But nobody needs it in the apple of their cheek when they're that young.
Starting point is 00:12:25 And also, have you heard of, like, the Bella Hadid thing, which is, like, called, like, Foxeye or something? My sister got Foxy's eyes. Shut the fuck up. My sister not only just got filler in her cheekbones, and it looks fantastic. Shout out to Dr. Zara in L.A., but she also got the Fox Eyes, which is a thread lift in your eye area, like, it looks really good. It's really subtle and nobody would notice, but she noticed. She got a thread threaded underneath her skin.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Yeah, so it's honestly, like, it looks like you're sewing. Like, you put a little thread here, and then you pull it up and you put a, like, thread here in, like, the crown of, what would this be called? Temple or something? Yeah, you're a temple area. And it lifts it up a little bit. The weird thing is there's, like, a pucker there for three weeks. Like you have.
Starting point is 00:13:13 Like here? Yeah. Yeah. So you really, like, can't be going out and about. Why did she want to get it? What made her want to get it? She felt like her eyebrow, like, went down. And she wanted her eyebrow to be straight up. But don't you feel, Ashley, like, something about it is like, why can't, I mean, like, hashtag love yourself a little bit? Like, hashtag do whatever, you know, you want to make you happy, but also hashtag maybe love yourself more the way you are. I don't know. I don't know. I'd say love yourself.
Starting point is 00:13:45 and do whatever you want to do. Yeah. It depends on how extreme you get. Do you like the way I'm playing my hair right now? Yeah, it just depends how extreme. Like, I really hope like your sister didn't feel any type of way that was like, you know, comparing herself to other girls that look like that, whereas like it's not natural. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:14:04 Like, if it comes from like that kind of place, then it makes me kind of sad. If it's like, oh, I want to do this and like it'll make him feel better, then do you get, do you get what I mean? Yeah. It might be a combination. of both. She does love Bella Hadid, who literally looks, I think Bella looks. No, she's like the poster child of Fox Eye. Absolutely. I think Bella looks definitely too overworked. I think I like her look because it's so, like, because I'm blonde and have blue eyes, I'll always think the like dark
Starting point is 00:14:36 haired, mysterious looking, like women are like hotter. Like I won't look at a blonde. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, like back in my teens, all I wanted to do is be blonde. I'm like, how am I going to be like Britney? You always want to be the person that you can't be like. But then poor Brittany, nobody wants to be Britney now. I know. Are you into the free Britney stuff? Is the free Britney thing, like just the fact that she's still under the conservative shift
Starting point is 00:15:00 and people think that people think that she doesn't, like they're feeding her drugs or something because. That's a thing. Like I'm getting a lot of, you know, messages about it and people are posting about it. and I feel bad that sometimes I do. I don't make fun of her. Like I'm a Brittany fan. Like she was my God. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:20 But it's like obviously her posts are a little bizarre and I'm not going to pretend like they're not. But now it's like free Britney. And I don't know because I'm like are these facts? Am I reading facts or are these like conspiracy theories like fans? Like I don't know. They've got to be conspiracy theories because when I look at her posts, I think let's not free Britney. If this is what she is like,
Starting point is 00:15:42 under the surveillance of someone, I'm concerned what she'd be like without. But I don't know if her dad is like this. They're saying that the dad, I mean, some people are being like her dad, like, I mean, you can, it's, that's what I'm saying when it becomes too many like, he, like one person saying she was like molested by your dad or dad's a person. Kevin Federer has like sex tapes on her or I don't, I mean, then, then I don't know. But it does make me concerned because if she has. a mental health issue, then I don't understand why she can't be treated in a way that is
Starting point is 00:16:18 helpful. Like how we couldn't have gotten to like a cocktail that works. Absolutely. Like you would think that she has the best mental health team around her. I have to say before speaking on this, I am not educated on the free Brittany movement. Me neither. Me neither. Okay. Don't add us. Okay. Yeah. Don't add us. I would think that she would have access to all the best. And, you know, know my sister came up with this thought the other day that like possibly it's almost like a Michael Jackson syndrome because when you see her it's like she's a little kid even the way she dresses did you watch the the hills the last season with Brandon Lee no so he's Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee's son okay and he said about his dad Tommy Lee if you remember him that
Starting point is 00:17:08 he had oh if I remember him I have a story with Tommy Lee and it doesn't have a have to do with his giant penis? Almost. It, okay. Yeah. Well, I just want to say that it's weird that I learned this information from Brandon Lee on the failed season three of the Hills.
Starting point is 00:17:25 But it was that he said, my dad, because he was a rock star and so famous at, let's say, age 22, whenever that was, it's like you get stuck at the age that you were so famous at, like mentally. That's like Brittany.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Right. And that's like Michael. So Brandon Lee might have had a point. We already know the importance of taking care of our skin. We're all obsessed with skincare routines, knowing celebrity skincare routines, influencer skincare routines. We're all trying to find the right product for us, for our skin, whether we're worried about fine lines, redness, acne. It could be really, really frustrating. And that's why I wanted to tell you about a simpler, smarter solution to skin care.

Starting point is 00:18:57 on your skin care journey. With Rory, there are no commitments and you can cancel at any time. To try out nightly defense your own prescription customized skin care for just $5, go to Hello Rory, dot com slash not skinny again to try out nightly defense your own prescription customized skin care go to hello rory.com slash not skinny it's free to chat with the doctor and your first order would just be five dollars that's hello rory.com slash not skinny so what's your story with tommy lay well the press has gotten wind of this so I don't think that they would pick it up again because I wouldn't want to get out there again but there was a one time I said it was like it was uncomfortable and I was 22 my friend was a really big
Starting point is 00:19:50 motley crew fan and she had nobody to go at the concert too so my sister and I went with her were like fine it'll be fun during the concert I was totally freaked out can you stop playing with the sorry my necklace so I was really freaked out because on the jumbo trons there's like almost pornographic material you know this is the girl that was going to like new kids on the and Jonas Miller concerts, you know, purity ring type thing. And then they're just like boobies on the screen. And I was like, I am out of my element. But of course, this poor manager guy comes up to us or like a assistant to Tommy Lee.
Starting point is 00:20:27 And he's like, Tommy saw you guys out by the buses earlier. And he wants you to come backstage after the show. My sister and my best friend, you know, my roommate at the time, literally lost it, thought it was like, holy shit. This is the coolest thing. Groupie lifestyle, blah, blah. And I was like, I don't know if I'm going to be like I'm afraid about doing this. And we get backstage and on his dressing room door, it said no clothes allowed.
Starting point is 00:20:51 I'm like, yeah, I think I should probably just go wait in the car. Oh, my God, stop. We walk into the dressing room with clothes on and immediately like Tommy zeroes in on me. And he like licks me from my chin to my forehead and he's like, you. Like, I was, like, his conquest for the night. It just, he just continued to, like, hit on me. Like you? Lick me again.
Starting point is 00:21:18 He was, he said something, like, I'm going to have my way with you. And I'm like, okay, no, I just, it got to the point where it was like, okay, I'm going to awkwardly laugh at this to, like, I'm maybe on the verge of tears. So I just, right. I ran out of the dressing room and my friend, my sister came out, like, five minutes later. Wait, was it not? So it wasn't sexy at all. It was like, what?
Starting point is 00:21:40 what's happening. Why are you a freaking, why are you touching me? Yeah. I mean, like, you know, like, he's like history and possible illness and you're just like, okay. Like, this is. Oh, right. Yeah. I'm like, I sit here and. And I'm going to leave. Oh, my God. That's cray, cray. Wait. So that was 22. And then so what age did you go on Christmas season? 10 years ago. Oh, so we're the same age. You're 32 as well. Yeah. So what age did you get on Chris's season? I was 26 when we filmed it. And, like, yeah, 26. Was that one of the, like, how, what season was that in numbers?
Starting point is 00:22:16 Uh, 19. Oh. Yeah. Oh, wow. I know. Wait, so how many years ago did you say six years? It'll be six years in September since we filmed, which is mind boggling. Wait, does it feel like more?
Starting point is 00:22:32 Does it feel like less? Like, what does it feel like less? It probably feels like four now, like, like, encouraging four. Wait, and when you went on it, were you like, I mean, was this kind of before going on it made you like social media famous? This was kind of, we were the first season that it became, you became social media famous. So we had no idea that that was coming for us. So you went on it to like for the experience and maybe coming out with like a dude? Literally, I've always said like, oh, hey, if this helps me in my career, like that's awesome.
Starting point is 00:23:07 if it gets me a husband, then that's even better. And, like, I'll never regret, like, having such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that, like, nobody gets. So how did you do? Did you, like, fill out the application, like, and all that? It was nine months before I called them that I sent in this elaborate audition tape. I FedEx my stuff to them. And then Juan Pablo was announced as the bachelor soon after I sent in my audition.
Starting point is 00:23:37 tape and either like they must have gotten it maybe the last week of july or like the first week of August and they either saw it and they were like okay this girl we're going to stay for another season because we're too close because at that point they're already like in top 50 so they probably didn't even consider me they may have put me in a pile that was like revisit for next season which is most likely or they were like this girl's never going to get anywhere with wampalo and then so he was the next season after that Chris? Yeah, Chris was the next season.
Starting point is 00:24:09 And then they called me on April Fool's Day. I feel like, yeah, it was insane. None of my friends believed me. April Fool's Day, nine months after I submitted. Oh, so out of nowhere, like you didn't get a yes. You didn't get a no about Juan Pablo. You're like, okay, sent it, didn't hear back. You don't hear back unless they want to hear from them.
Starting point is 00:24:27 That's crazy. So nine months later, and you're not dating anyone, you get the call. Yeah, I mean, I was obsessed with someone. I wouldn't call it dating. maybe this was like an off couple months from that and there was definitely like a moment a couple like on the month of where I was like things are working out with so and so now do I not go on because of him and it was the best decision of my life of me like no you're going to go on because this guy like you don't always know if you're going to get a text back you know what I mean and then that's when I mean this is like an important piece of information that is when you became Ashley's I. You know what I mean? Sure. Right? Like were you Ashley I in life before? There was like another Ashley. In elementary school, high school, there was always another Ashley in the class, right? So Ashley wasn't exactly the weirdest thing for me to be called. I like it now. Now it's like,
Starting point is 00:25:25 like that's your name like Ashley I. Yeah. And that's what made me feel like I'm going to take on Haven when we have kids. I'm going to ask. Yeah. Same. So, but right. now like I don't feel the need to go through all the paperwork and plus the bachelor did make me very attached to my last name when I was younger I was like oh you know like I can't wait to change my name but then I you know became known for my name and I really enjoy it now listen you know when I think about that kind of thing then I think Haley Baldwin legit changed her name to Haley Bieber like the day they like and she was Haley Baldwin she could I mean Not the Bieber, I mean, Beaver, but that she's Haley Baldwin.
Starting point is 00:26:10 And in that fucking Jif, she was like, I'm Bieber now. And like, then we just all started calling her Haley Bieber. Yeah, isn't that weird? For two seconds about it. We were like, we accepted. We, we gave in, I feel like I didn't even get confused. I was like, Haley Bieber. She is an exception to that rule because both people can't change their name that quick and people adapt like that.
Starting point is 00:26:34 Right. You know, Kim, even Kim Kardashian. the fact that like so many, like, we can call her Kim Kardashian West and it doesn't feel weird to me. If I, if I call her KKW, maybe, but I'll say, yeah, Kim K. You love the Kardashians, right? Yeah. I know. Do you?
Starting point is 00:26:51 I do. Okay. Yeah. I used to be only a lover and not a hater at all. And lately, I don't know if it's quarantine. I don't know. I'm eight months pregnant, by the way. Oh, well, congratulations.
Starting point is 00:27:03 Thank you. Or that that I was like, Kylie's turned and making me. I can't. I can't deal with it. Ashley, I can't. I can't. But what is it? I need to know like a pinpoint. It's something that is like too sexual for me. Okay. Like two like she's always like touching her boobs that are like, did you see her stories yesterday? She was like spliss splashing in the pool and I just felt like I was watching a porno. Like I don't know. Like everything. And I just feel like she's because Kim I like respect. I know she's a business woman. And I know that's why when people like are jealous or like, you know, they don't work hard.
Starting point is 00:27:41 I can tell like Kim works so hard and does shit that I would be so too lazy to do. You know what I mean? Absolutely. Like when she became like a billionaire last week, I go, Jared, did you know that Kim became a billionaire today? She so deserves it. Like I remember watching an episode of Keeping Up and she like flew to like North Carolina to give like a prisoner that has a lot of tattoos and just got. released like a laser and I was like if I had that much money I'd like send the laser guy but like I wouldn't come you know what I mean she like came she doesn't she does a lot of good she does a
Starting point is 00:28:18 lot of good so that makes her even more deserving Courtney's like my fashion icon like I love the way she like dresses I mean we know Chloe is like funny and she's like the fun one and like yeah big heart so what the fuck is Kylie like what are you like the way that you leave out Kendall because like she doesn't feel like a true she's more of a gender it's true she is more of a gender i agree with you with the kiley thing because sometimes i'm like kiley like not an ounce of you feels real sometimes like even the way she talks where i'm like kiley like just like let loose for a second and speak like your older sisters because they're just way more raw than she is yeah when you say speak i'm i know like you probably mean also like what she's saying but for me it's also even her voice yeah you guys
Starting point is 00:29:04 Everything is so light and fluffy, and there's no way. And it also feels like a porno. Like I remember when she, like, rubs her Kylie's skin and it's like, this is the mat. And I'm just like, this is like a lot for me. I like can't deal with it. I completely see what you're talking about. Yeah. Do you go get their salads and calabasas ever?
Starting point is 00:29:25 I know. I have not had another salads. That annoys my mom so much. She's like, oh, there's another salad. There's another salad. I can't believe that they don't get tired. at these salads. I know because they look really, really boring.
Starting point is 00:29:38 And then I think I read about it one day and they get like the chicken, the Chinese chicken one that's supposed to have the crispy wantons, but they take them out. Oh, no. And I think they don't even get the yummy dressing. So you guys. Anyway, so back to your bachelor life. Okay.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Because of all, Chris is now dating Victoria. It's like that didn't stick with her. Yeah, Victoria F. Well, it didn't stick as much especially I. Yeah. No. Soon she'll just be. Victoria. What do you think about that?
Starting point is 00:30:09 Everybody keeps asking me about this and I truly have no opinion because I've never met her in real life. Yeah. So I'm just happy that Chris has found somebody. You like him as a person? Like you wish him well. Oh, I love Chris. Oh, yes, yes. We're friends. Okay, good. Yeah. Okay. So then you go on Bachelor in Paradise. I think I just saw the second time around. Was the first time around mostly Jared focused too? Oh, yeah. So there was no one else of interest at that, at that round? The second one, I was into Wells and we had like a little thing. That's summer.
Starting point is 00:30:43 Wait, the second one, not the first one. The second one is solely Jared. Solely Jared. And then the second one was when Kayla came. Yes. I remember that. Yeah. Yeah, that was, first of all, I think, because I put up on like my story like that I'm
Starting point is 00:31:01 interviewing someone from Bachelor Nation right now and, and is the true. like fairy tale dream come true and like guess who it is and your name was in there but people were guessing other names too and I was like wait how are you not the like only because to me that's like in real life that doesn't happen like you don't end up getting the guy that it looks like you're not going to get you know what I mean and not only did you get him he became obsessed with you and you're happily married knock on wood I'm like Jewish knock on wood right now how does that happen and do i feel like people probably look women look up to you or or maybe or maybe some women like are like i'll just keep on good you know persevering like ashley and and maybe
Starting point is 00:31:46 it'll happen one day it's just like the movie in the book he's just not that into you i always say i am the exception to the rule so don't think that your life is going you're like with justin long and yes jennifer goodwin yeah so you are jennifer goodwin because he ends up falling for her yes yes i am so don't like think that it's going to happen to you if it does that's fantastic but like don't plan your life according to mine and plus they made it obviously look like it was more one-sided than it was on tv so take into consideration it was way more extreme on tv than it was in real life like it was far more shocking to the viewers than it was to me that he came around Because you were also probably feeling more, maybe not leading you on in a bad way or intentionally,
Starting point is 00:32:37 but you probably felt like that, like, because it does happen in life. Like I liked guys before that were like not into me, but I was like, you're secretly into me. Yeah, yes, yes, absolutely. You're just not mature enough to like deal with this woman. So was it that kind of a thing? Like you secretly felt like what's wrong with you were meant to be? Why don't you accept it and admit it? It wasn't that secret that I believe.
Starting point is 00:33:01 that yeah right I totally thought that and Jared doesn't like to use the expression lead me on he said that he gave me mixed signals because okay I believe I didn't understand that there was a difference between this until he explained and now I'm like okay I'll go with what you say he says that leading on is like a guy who truly doesn't like you he's just like playing with your emotions like for fun like it just it's not going to happen and he acts as if it could happen and then mixed signals is more of like a guy who's confused that like has feelings but just doesn't know like how to appropriately express them mm-hmm because he did keep you around as like and i see this with a lot of dudes like they'll want the woman that they
Starting point is 00:33:51 supposedly don't want but they'll want them in some form as like a friend like if they didn't give a shit about you at all. They'd like not give a shit about you at all. Right. But I feel like sometimes the guys that are confused and don't know will be like, no, we're just friends, but like you'll feel like they need you as more than a friend. So, so was it 2000, what, 16 that the, 2000, when what happened? When the switch happened?
Starting point is 00:34:18 No, no, no, not the switch yet. We're at the, so Bachelor in Paradise, 2016. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then you went on. Winter Games. That was the December of 2017. And that's when, well, first of all, you got with Kevin, which I shipped, by the way. I watched Winter Games.
Starting point is 00:34:39 And I shipped because... Thanks. Thanks for shipping me with anyone. That's what I mean. When I have to tell you that what comes to mind when I, like, have flashbacks right now, you and Winter Games with Kevin is just like a lot of tongue. I don't know why. Really?
Starting point is 00:34:54 Because I don't think we, I don't think there was any tongue. Really? Wasn't there, like, a kissing competition and each couple, like, kissed galore? Yeah, but I don't like, I'm not a tongue girl. It's like a thing. I'm just like, I don't get it. That's my ultimate. I don't get it, I think.
Starting point is 00:35:09 What? You don't tongue at all? I don't, I prefer not to. I'd like it like it as lippy as possible. Oh, my God. So I was way off. I was maybe remembering someone else's tongue. But Kevin was so cute, right?
Starting point is 00:35:27 can we say that? He seems like that's a good guy. Yeah, so sweet. Really, really good companion on that show. Really good companion. You're giving him a lot of nice pal. It's like same with Wells like during Paradise.
Starting point is 00:35:44 It's like, oh yeah, I did. Wells. It's still there to talk about because like they're part of my life. Oh, yeah. Some capacity, you know what I mean? To some capacity, yeah. Yeah, like Wells is on my podcast last week and when COVID wasn't around. I'd seen about, like, events and, like, trips all the time.
Starting point is 00:35:58 So. But did you guys kiss on Bachelor on Paradise? Oh, yeah. And, oh, my God. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We, like, had, like, a thing, ish throughout the summer. Like, not just on Paradise. He's a good guy, well.
Starting point is 00:36:12 Yeah. So if you're saying it's weird for you to talk about, I felt you watching the Caitlin Bristow bachelor greatest of all time, even though you were such a good girl and you were like so not, you know, because you were interviewed. by Chris Harrison with Jared and they did show a lot of Jared parts and him being like really sweet to Caitlin and it was probably so weird for you to watch and I think I even posted on my story I was like Ashley's really like no no like I didn't find it awkward like okay so first of all we did the interview with Harrison I hadn't seen the episode yet not that that makes a difference but Jared was
Starting point is 00:36:49 like way more awkward talking about it in front of me than I was like Jared it's okay like I get it I'm like, fine, whatever. I really, truly don't care. Like, it's before you met me. And then when we watched it, it was like, I thought I was pretty hilarious. There was, like, one kiss and, like, one line where I was like, excuse me? But other than that, it was pretty fun. And it's funny because I can talk about, like, guys from my past past without it feeling awkward at all being married.
Starting point is 00:37:17 But it's weird when, like, you talk about guys in the franchise, but, like, so many people have seen you kiss and that, like, and that your husband. knows and stuff, that's when it gets weird. So you're saying it when you actually watch it like before, like not to do with the interview, what you could watch it without cringing? Like him and Caitlin? Yeah. I think it's all going to be a little bit cringe, but it's all, but it's more funny than it is cringe to me.
Starting point is 00:37:43 And another thing about Kevin that I wanted to say, and this is without me like invading your privacy, obviously I wouldn't ask you like the the V question. But I saw an article where he, like, kind of insinuated and made people kind of think that you guys had sex. Well, you know, when he was like, I was a big part of Ashley. That's when he was in paradise and he said that. And I was surprised. Yeah. And it's funny because you were like the virgin girl and then it became a thing.
Starting point is 00:38:19 It's like not who even remembers that now. Isn't that crazy how much they took something and ran with it? Yeah. It's like, okay, for every season now, we need, you know, a virgin. That's what happened. I just, I'm actually mind boggled every time since that they've made virginity an issue because I'm like, okay, if you're getting like a virgin on the show every season, like I guess it's not that weird.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Like maybe it's not something that we should like blow up because maybe it's all that crazy. Yeah. But I, yeah, the last one was. Maddie. What did you think about that season with Peter and the, I mean, everything that happened after and he picked. I mean, that was, as somebody who has to do, who does Bachelor commentary as part of my job, like, it was fun. It was really fun. It was the first season that wasn't spoiled for me. It wasn't spoiled for anyone. It had me very excited each week. And that finale like truly jaw dropping so many twists and turns like I don't think they can I really don't
Starting point is 00:39:24 think as far as drama goes they're going to be able to top that season and that's okay because I think for Claire's season I'm going to want to see just love and also what do you think about clear season now that that's been kind of spoiled for us when obviously we know it's going to have to be different because of COVID that it looks like they're going to film in one place kind of like a which like is going to be if they start filming now you guys there's going to be so much sweat there's going to be like more than Mexico like more than bachelor in paradise sweat especially since they're shooting in I think Palm Springs which is going to be like 115 degrees that's that's what I'm saying you guys like I don't know if I'm prepared like that really grosses me out when like
Starting point is 00:40:06 in Mexico all the dudes are sweating galore like I can't really handle it the nights in Palm Springs get really nice so I would think that like a lot of the dates will happen at like dusk yeah or like day at the pool or something yeah and and i feel don't you feel like that because i have to be honest like you're you're you're you were on the show but as of you were like you guys traveling is nice but like i don't really care i don't think the viewers care and i think that it's going to be better for her because like if anyone is there for like the right reasons it's clear and i feel like this is going to be. You feel that? Yes.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Really? Oh, yeah. She's the best. She's just like a powerhouse. She's not trying to get like an Instagram famous right now. No, she truly doesn't care about that. Yeah. She was on the show before that was a thing. And right. But like, you know, the thing is, I remember her from Winter Games with Ben Waugh. Like that was the last time I saw her and that was kind of like a fail. You know what I mean? Well, I mean, Claire was trying to be easy with. Benoit and trying to slow him down a lot, but he wouldn't be slowed. Oh, my God. He was, he was, is intense, like the most accurate word for Benoit.
Starting point is 00:41:26 Yes. Yeah. So you're excited about Claire. I'm just hoping, because remember when they release all the cast members, I might have gone through them and like been like 24, 20. So I'm really hoping the ages. for her going to be appropriate? I think they're good.
Starting point is 00:41:45 I think they must have changed it during quarantine. They had so many months to gather people specifically for her. So I think it'll be like almost an entirely new cast. Is there anyone in Bachelorsonation that you like outwardly don't like or do you have to like everyone? Well, you pretty much have to like everyone. But of course there are some people that you're not going to jive with. They're not going to be friends with.
Starting point is 00:42:08 But, you know, you don't have to cross paths sometimes. Yeah. there's nobody like I cross paths with regular that I'm not like that I dread seeing I was kind of like on a hate train with Tyler C TBA because um I felt like dupe that I watched you know Hannah's season and he came out like freaking Paul Newman on that season and we all thought like like Paul Newman holy shit he was Paul Newman and I was like how can it be the hottest man alive is also so nice you know and then I don't know. And then I felt kind of duped when it ended and he was this like giant influencer dude and he dated Gigi, which like who is worthy. And then I think then Matt James was kind of in his like stick too. So I think I like had some residual hate transfer over. But I want to say and I've said this because I'll take things back sometimes. I've noticed now when I've watched Matt's interviews for the show
Starting point is 00:43:16 that he seems like he has a lot of personality and he seems hot. And I hope that he's there for the right reasons. That's, that's. I do think it's weird that they picked a friend of somebody who hasn't been on the show yet. Right. Because they've never done that before, right? Like ever? I mean, for somebody not to, yeah, in the past,
Starting point is 00:43:40 they've paid people from like obscurity and they'd become the lead right but like right for so many years we haven't seen somebody become the lead who didn't have already gone through a regular bachelor or bachelor's season right um but i know that they wanted to get the black lead in there and i completely am in agree with it being about time to do that right but some people were saying like why wasn't it mike like what do you think of course like the blaring question is why wasn't it Mike, he's such a fan favorite. And for me, like, why wasn't it somebody who was like at least a celebrity that we have like some sort of attachment to? I thought that Rashad Jennings would have been so amazing because I think Rashad Jennings was thinking about being on an upcoming
Starting point is 00:44:23 season of The Bachelorette and then they were going to like kind of flow him through. He's so, like he's so handsome, so charming in one dancing with the stars. So it's already that ABC family. So I think that would have made a lot of sense. But Matt also has such a huge fan following already from vaccination just because of Tyler. Because of Tyler. Which is very unique. That's what I'm saying. It's a very, that's how, which is funny, I had this comedian on my show and he said something
Starting point is 00:44:52 so funny about Tyler because we were talking about him. And he was like, women are holding him as such a god because when Hannah wouldn't have sex with him. Yeah. And he was like, okay. Yeah. And we were like, ah. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:45:08 And he was. like he was like what do women think like that the dude would be like fuck that bitch she doesn't want to fuck me like what's and i and then that's when i like realized how duped we were that when that when he left that boat and like we found out that she was like i just didn't do it with him we were like it's a great point it's a great point and and and the way you said like how editing can play a role and and all of that then obviously he got like the god of like bachelor whatever light like whatever all the things um so i don't hate him anymore you guys i don't at all and i wish him well i know he's been through a hard time with
Starting point is 00:45:53 his mom and everything like that but he is a unique situation because you know in trista and ryan time i mean it changed since then bachelor people were like bachelor people then it became kind of like oh celebrity yeah and today it's so intertwined with like Hollywood and the industry and Tyler was a prime example I mean for dating Gigi and just like hanging out with Serena Williams you know oh I know like he just he definitely hangs out with the Kardashians too like he's bit he's hung out with Kylie and Kendall you know it it is wild it is well I mean I think Peter Weber even hung out with like Kylie and Stasi baby and I was very confused wait so we didn't talk about that though do you ship current pilot Pete and Kelly
Starting point is 00:46:37 yeah I do I really like them together it's just a cool story. And it's very fateful. You know what I mean? Like, they ran into each other before the show. And then even... Wait, does right? Well, is ran into each other because like, we never got the full story. Well, she was, was, who was out a wedding? Was he, she had a wedding? She was out of wedding? Yeah, but they make it sound like they saw each other in the lobby. I feel like something more happened. You know what I mean? That like they remember, I feel like they boned at the hotel. I feel like they may have like made out at like the bar yeah something like happened that he remembered her but the thing is like at the end of the day kelly like watching it don't you feel like she was not meant to be on
Starting point is 00:47:21 the bachelor like i remember when they went abroad she's like this is cool like i'm seeing places and they're like yeah but pete pete you're here for pete she's like yeah if that works out that's cool like she didn't get the memo about like this is so so i think she wasn't fitting a realist for it Yeah, she's too, exactly. She was, she was like too real for it. Yeah. And then she felt, she didn't like the feeling of being produced. Like, she didn't have rose-colored glasses on.
Starting point is 00:47:50 And I think, like, like, I took my rose-colored glasses off during Bachelor in Paradise Three. But some people, like her, are intuitive of enough to, like, kind of figure it out early. Yeah. But, like, not, I'm not shading. production by saying that it's like at first i was just totally innocent to any sort of like oh like it makes sense like any storyline weaving right but then like you kind of see like oh i i understand what it's happening with me right now and something like that did you ever feel like you were you ever upset about anything like that like in retrospect or are you like accepting
Starting point is 00:48:34 and how you were portrayed on the seasons you were on Bachelor in Paradise 3 is I still hold a grudge there a little bit. But that was, well, I guess winter games, because winter games, we didn't say this before, unless correct me if I'm wrong, is where Jared kind of, it's like the typical, like you only realize what you have when you lost it. It's like when he saw you there. That's when he was like, do ding, like I want to get Ashley. Oh, absolutely. Forever thankful for it. I mean, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:49:07 we always talk, we're like, how long would it have taken? He needed to feel like he was going to lose something in order to make a move. But like, did he have it? Like, before you got together in 2018, was there ever, like, a period where you did try? Yeah. Like, in between Bachelor in Paradise 2 and Bachelor in Paradise 3, which is why my edit, which is why I don't want to say it was unfair, but it was very narrow mind. Because it made it seem like you didn't have a thing
Starting point is 00:49:39 and you were out of, like, Leffield. Yes. It made me seem like I was crazy that there was no reason for me to ever think anything other, like any, like, I never had any sign that Jared would have been into me. But, like, we made out. He, like, slept in my bed in that between that year.
Starting point is 00:49:56 He, like, would stay at my place. He'd get me flowers, write me sweet notes. He'll send me sweet, like, messages. But it was like, oh, wanted to get a paradise. Let's pretend none of that happens. but there's other things in that paradise that bother me but like i'm not going to go down the rabbit hill because like i've not talked about it for like three years and it just like it's kind of a what's in the past let be in the past type of thing yeah yeah and also because i remember
Starting point is 00:50:24 you guys posted this like such a sweet youtube video that if i'm on a cynical day like even on a cynical day i was like this is so fucking cute that was like your love story do you remember that that you know i remember that the story it was the story of how did you that was such a for for anyone who hasn't watched it then watch it and you'll get like the in-betweens of even everything we're talking about because you guys really tell the whole story there of like how this happened yeah and it was because of my frustrations of like what people thought about our relationship versus what it was in real life which is why we did that it was like okay so if you come out that we're dating now it's not going to make any sense to some people or most people. So let's just kind of tell our story
Starting point is 00:51:11 the way it was in our eyes, not through the eyes of like a third party storyteller, right? So we did that because I was doing a lot of interviews with kinetic content, the production company that helped us out with that. And I was interviewing other couples about their stories. And I said, wait, this would be a great idea to do our story. And I love that we have it documented like that. Yeah. I said like if people are like like how how how how did this happen that I'm like just go watch it. It explains it. And then it's just nice for us to have down the road to like watch ourselves and show our kids and all that stuff. That's amazing. I'm really happy for you guys and your end. And thank you so much for coming on and chatting with me today. Thank you so much
Starting point is 00:52:02 for having me on. It's been fun. Very fun. So you have your podcast with Ben. Mm-hmm. That's the almost famous. The almost famous. And you also have a podcast with your sister and with Nas is a past producer on The Bachelor. Yeah. She used to be a producer when I was on the show. Her name is Nas Perez. And we, we have the I Don't Get It podcast, which is a little bit more like this podcast, pretty much like girl talk and millennial girl issues. That's cool. you have time for two podcasts a week. Oh, you know, it's not that time consuming. Yeah. I know. That's what people are saying, you know, having a baby and they're like, how are you going to do it? And I was like, if I can't motherfucking find an hour a week to talk, then like we're going to have issues.
Starting point is 00:52:49 Like, we're going to not get along. Well, especially like with quarantine, like we're recording everything from home. So it takes out a lot of. It takes out a lot. And, and you know what? Even if like we continue in like, like have you been really kind of suffering in quarantine or do you feel like there's some parts of it that you're like, I can't get used to that. I couldn't get used to this. Yeah. So everyone, be safe. And Ashley, thank you so, so much. Thank you so much. This is really fun.
