Starting point is 00:00:00 The following podcast is a dear media production. Welcome back to the not skinny bonafat podcast. I'm your host, Amanda Hirsch, and I still can't believe that I get to chat with some of my favorite stars on my very own podcast, where you'll feel like you're just talking shit with your best friends in your living room. Hi.
Starting point is 00:00:28 Hi, happy Tuesday. I'm going to try to talk faster because I was listening to my pod that's today. I was listening to it to make sure it's good. like I listen back after I record it. And I was like, and I forgot to put it on 1.25 speed, which I always do when I listen. And I was like, what is this? Like I speak so slowly.
Starting point is 00:00:50 And then I put on 1.2 speed. I was like, thank God. So I feel like you guys should listen to it on 1.2 speed if you want me to not sound slow. Because, and I remember when Claudia was on somebody was like the fastest talking podcaster with the slowest talking podcaster with the slowest talking podcast. and I thought that was really funny. I also think that I like miscategorized myself as a fast talker in my life. Like I'm from New York. I talk fast. And it's like, no, you don't. No, you don't. So I think that's really funny. One point two speed I'm golden, by the way. Like I'm telling you, it's perfect unless my guest talks really fast and then it's like too fast. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:01:28 So anyway, people are shocked. I listen to audiobooks on 1.2. Like, why are you shocked? I love a 1.2. Like, what am I trying to like for things to take more time? A lot of you are also like. like, how do you have time for audiobooks? And that should be the question. Like, how am I shoving that in? But it's like, I don't know if it's good, but because you should have quiet in your brain, but I listen to an audiobook whenever I have a moment of quiet. Or, you know, what I love, I love putting my kids asleep and popping in that.
Starting point is 00:01:55 Speaking about being present with your kids, the minute you're with your kids, popping in your pod and listen to something. But it's not when I'm hanging out with them. It's when I'm putting them to bed. So we shouldn't be talking. anyway. Anyway, how's everybody happy Tuesday? Well, come back to not skinny, but not fat. This is Amanda. What else did I want to tell you? Oh, how was your Memorial Day weekend? Where did you go on vacation? Well, I didn't go anywhere. Speaking of that, when I had Jill last week and I said, like, we were talking about how at school kids ask other kids where you're going on vacation.
Starting point is 00:02:29 And I said, you know where that doesn't happen? Public school. And some people got mad about that. Some people just said, like, no, it is happening in public school. And I respect those people that said, no, babe, like, it's just as gross at public school because it was different times. I went to public school. I didn't experience that. Like, I didn't. But my experience growing up and going to public school, I didn't feel that. I didn't feel that everybody went away, every vacation. I didn't feel like kids were asking kids. Like, Noah literally, like, one day a mom came to and it was like, it's so fun that you like, summer in the Hamptons. We could do a play date. And I'm like, what? And she was like, yeah, Noah told the kid that we also have a house, that you also have a house in the Hamptons.
Starting point is 00:03:07 I was like, Noah. I was like, oh, yeah. Like, I don't want to call him a liar. I was like, oh, yeah. You know, when we're there. But anyway, so that's what's happening, you know, in private school. So I didn't know what was happening in public schools. So I said, you know, where that doesn't have a public school?
Starting point is 00:03:20 And when I was saying that, it was from a place of like, I struggled with that. Like, where do I send Noah to school? I wanted him to go to public school. I ended up really liking the school that he was in. And who knows, like, what's going to happen? I kind of take it year by year with schools. Like, again, in New York, like, everyone's crazy. Like, they decide when the kid is.
Starting point is 00:03:37 a fetus, like where they're going to go to college. I'm not like that I kind of take a year by year. Like, okay, he's happy. He's thriving. It's great. Let's see. So, like, I had plans of him to go to public school in kindergarten, and I didn't. I'm doing that because I really liked the preschool he was in and he was so happy. And I was like, okay, we'll keep him. But anyway, so I think it's like an internal thing of mine where I'm like, I super
Starting point is 00:03:57 believe in public school. And I'm a public school kid. And I like, like, like that more where it's like, there's more diversity and more socioeconomic backgrounds and stuff like that. But anyway, my point was like, when I was like, when I was, like, when I was, was getting responses to it. It was just crazy to see the divisiveness of like somebody who's just like, no girl, public school, people are like just as nudie and gross, which I would totally be like, oh my God,
Starting point is 00:04:19 versus people that were like getting mad. Like, how dare you say the public school, you know, people don't talk about vacation. Like they were getting offended. And I feel like that's kind of like projecting, if you will, like maybe people that go to public school that feel like they, you know, they're like, no, we're all. show off and go on vacations and ask each other. I'm like, well, you know what I was saying is like a good thing. You know, like that's how I meant it.
Starting point is 00:04:45 So, yeah, I just saw some messages that were like kind of like offended. Offended for public schools. And I'm like, you understand that I was saying that is a good thing. So just like just sometimes shows me like how the internet or listeners or people can just take things the way they take things because they're putting their own, obviously. perspective and projection onto it, whereas like, I meant it as like a good thing because I'm like, like public school, this wouldn't have happened. Like should have went to public. You know what I mean? And I totally accept if I'm wrong and things have changed and public school is just like this. And I would be like, oh my God. But people that were getting mad at me, like it was so ick when you said
Starting point is 00:05:26 this. And I'm like, well, how are you taking it? Because that's not how I meant it. Anyway, that sounds like gaslighting swear it's not. Anyway, let's move on. In other news, Emily and Paris is over. I feel like I posted that on everyone was like, thank God or finally. And I was also going to say that, but then I was like, wait,
Starting point is 00:05:46 there is part of me that like, I hate watch it. Like, I did watch it. It's not like I'm thinking. Like, I watched every single season. Was on my phone 90% of the time?
Starting point is 00:05:56 Was I making fun of it? You know, 87% of the time? Yes. But I think, I do think it's a good thing. I don't think it should have continued forever. Now I need to remember.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Oh, I guess we have another. other season. So we'll see how season six ends. Maybe she goes back to Chicago. But it's an end of an era to hate watch Emily in Paris, you know? Another thing that happened this week is Blake Lively attended some Fendi maybe moment. And you know what was wild? Like just talking about like the skinny obsession. I said Blake looks so good, which maybe I partly did to like piss people off because then people will get mad and be like, how dare you like that? But also because I support women. But But I know, honestly I said that because she looks good.
Starting point is 00:06:40 And the reason I meant she looked good because I wasn't talking about her body is because she usually wears a bengles and like a thousand colors and like flowers draping from her earlobes. And she was wearing like jeans, a black tank top and like a like a fucking fendi beige trench. Like she looked chic. That's what I meant. All my messages were like, yeah, she probably like all the stress. She got skinny or like, Ozympic. And I was like, why do you?
Starting point is 00:07:07 does everyone assume that I'm talking about her body? If I was talking about her body, I talk about her body. I would put a freezing emoji, okay? I was literally like, you know, I was talking about the fashion. I was talking that she looks fucking chic and she's not wearing the rainbow on her. So I just thought that was interesting because I did post another video that Girl Boss Town was talking about just like how anorexia is back and it's fucking crazy because I don't know what's happening. Like it's not even those empec or, you know, and it might be connected actually. you know, because they're getting skinny somehow, but just like what we're seeing on the red carpet is literally crazy.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Like, there are celebrities that used to have bodies that I like was like, that's a body, you know? Like, I just love seeing real bodies, you know? Like, and when I say real bodies, it's not like fucking, I'm not being crazy here, okay? I'm talking about like, just not stickly thin and just not like arms that look like spaghetti before you cook them. And we are seeing that more than ever on the carpet now.
Starting point is 00:08:09 And again, stars that were quote unquote normal lost half their body weight. Do you get what I mean? And you're like, where did that go? And I'm like, even people that I wouldn't think are on OZempe because it would be like they have no reason to. They're more thin to begin with. You're like, but how else? Like how else you lose half of your body weight when you're already thin? And I just don't get it.
Starting point is 00:08:30 And I'm not going to say names and you can figure out yourself. But check out that video by Girl Boss Town. because we are literally normalizing anorexia, in my opinion. Another thing we need to talk about is a summer house finale. I was crying last night. I was crying last night, you know, watching the end, watching Sierra and Amanda embrace that way, even though I saw it even before I watched it,
Starting point is 00:08:55 I saw all the clips killed me, murdered my soul. I mean, everyone wants a friend like Sierra. I want a friend like Sierra to hold my face and tell me I'm beautiful and perfect and correct and right in the world. and to be there. It was just such a beautiful moment. And knowing what we know now, it's absolutely insane
Starting point is 00:09:14 that there was so much love between these girls and Amanda did what she did, you know, and now they are where they are. And it's like so sad. And I know all you want to do is jump down Amanda's throat
Starting point is 00:09:26 and call her an awful person and trash human that deserves to die. I'm not going to do that. I'm going to say, it is so fucking sad. It is so fucking sad that that friendship is over. Another thing that's sad to me is the marriage,
Starting point is 00:09:36 between Kyle and Amanda, like, should they have ended it 100%? Is it sad to watch a demise of a relationship over the course of 10 years and literally watch it and literally watch it? It's heartbreaking. I do think that the public loves to forget and everyone is literally forgetting Kyle's behavior throughout their marriage and people are forgetting that Kyle said last week, fuck you to her. And three weeks ago, fuck you to her. Andy even asked him that in the, at Watch What Happens Live. He's like, are you relieved that the scandal happened? Because if not, you would have been eaten alive at the reunion. And he's like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:09 And I'm not shaming him for that human fucking nature. Of course, you want the blame off of you. But the Bravo audience tends to fucking forget. The fact that Amanda did this awful thing with West does not excuse so much of Kyle's behavior. The cheating, the going out till six in the morning and not caring about his wife for so many years. And again, we don't know what she was doing
Starting point is 00:10:31 or how she was behaving as a wife. But we do know that. So I don't think we should just forget it all like. But the reunion cannot come soon enough. And that finale was heartbreaking. And I guess when I posted and I was like it seemed so finite, everyone was saying that the house is on the market. And I guess the OG cast knew they were moving on to the city. So it did feel like the end. And that makes me sad. I'm like, I don't want a new summer house cast, even though it still makes sense that a new summer house cast is needed. You know what I mean? But it still kind of breaks. It still kind of breaks my heart. Oh, I want to tell you guys. I feel like this is such a funny thing that happened to me. So I have a friend that's visiting in New York. So growing up, we were like three best friends. Now one of them I'm still really good friends with and she lives here.
Starting point is 00:11:19 And one of them lives in Israel still. And we grew apart over the years, okay? And she's coming here to visit. I'm going to see her next week. We're going to go out the three of us. But anyway, we used to be like best best friends. We're not anymore. Now I'm a person that like I'm not fake.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Like, I can't write a Chloe Kardashian birthday post if I don't, like, love you from the depths of my soul. And because we're not that close, she just had a birthday. So I wrote her message and I was struggling. I was like, what do I write? Like, for me, like, it has to feel real, you know? Like, what do I write? So I just ended up writing like, happy birthday sister. See you next week.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Okay? And then all of a sudden, I see that I have, like, a message from her with, like, hearts. And I'm like, what? I didn't even write something, like, emotional. Anyway, I opened the message and it's like, like a man doche, like that's what my friends there call me. I had just landed. My phone completely bugged out. It won't show me your message.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Can you please send it again? And I'm like, oh my God, she probably thinks it's like a cocoa, a cocoa birthday message that's like you're in my heart forever and always like, you know. And I was like, I can't fucking be like, it's this. Happy birthday, sister. See you next week. Like I can't send that. So I literally don't know. what to do. Like, not answer. See her next week. He'll be like, wait, I wanted the birthday. Oh,
Starting point is 00:12:40 whoops. I don't know if to say like, oh, it deleted for me. Or I don't know if to like make one up now. Like, that is emotional. But again, it's really hard for me to do that because I can't be fake. Like, I have a literal visceral reaction to it and how I do it. Like, I can't. I can't physically write it. Like, I'm like, I could chat GBT, but I feel like that's going to be obvious. Anyway, I just thought that was so funny that like she thinks she's missing some. really gorgeous message and I'm like, I can't send that to her now. You know, I can't be like, here it is.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Anyway, I'm in a conundrum and I don't know what to do. But anyway, more importantly, let's move it on. Let's move it on to today's episode because this is super exciting. This is the moment. This is explosive, like everywhere blowing up. Like, seldom does this happen when a show or a movie takes over the world. and it's like, you know, people go from anonymous to motherfucking stars. I'm obviously talking about the show off campus on Prime.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Wow. I mean, this is just the hottest show right now. These kids are blowing up. They are going from, again, anonymous to mega fucking stars. It's heated rivalry, the straight heated rivalry all the fuck over again. And really heeded rivalry because we're talking about ice hockey too, which like, give it to me ice hockey. Like, it's so hot.
Starting point is 00:14:07 I love it. Give me more. Give me anything ice hockey. Maybe I should start watching ice hockey. Anyway, today I have on the show, the star of off campus, the gorgeous Ella Bright, who plays Wellsey,
Starting point is 00:14:19 Hannah Wells. If you guys haven't watched it, go the fuck binge it and come back and listen to this pod. And if you haven't watched it yet, then fall in love with her on this pod, and then go watch it. But she is a delight.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Like, what a girl. What a delight. Taking it all in. in this like humble, sweet fucking way. So much energy, even though she's been probably on this press run for, you know, days without sleep. But that's when you're 19, you can handle that shit. Okay. Anyway, Ella Bright is here from off campus.
Starting point is 00:14:51 You're going to love this one. Ella. Oh my gosh. I love that name, by the way. Thank you. And I love this hair color. Oh, my God. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 00:15:01 I had it like dyed pretty much like black. like a year ago. So this is kind of like it washed out. Wait for the show. No, not for the show. It was like kind of washing out when I started the show. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:11 So it's like a darker brown. Is this your color? I think this is my natural color. Like it's coming back? Yeah, it's like grown out slightly. So yes, yeah. But you're about to film season two. About to film season two.
Starting point is 00:15:21 So hair is. Hair is getting cut. We're going back to the bulb. Maybe died. And maybe died. Yeah. I'm going to see. This is going to happen like tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:15:29 This isn't in a month. Like you're going. Yeah. Your flight from here is. is to Vancouver. I flew in from Vancouver yesterday. Wait, so you started season two. Yeah, so we ended press. I went to London for 24 hours and then we went right to Vancouver and then on the flight to Vancouver. It was like, oh, we're coming back to New York. I was like,
Starting point is 00:15:49 oh, bet, okay, got back on the flight and I'm here and then I leave tomorrow. Thank God you're 19 years old and your body can handle. I mean, I guess like actors of all ages do it, but that seems like so much. Like, first of all, you've been on the way. wildest press tour. Honored to be part of this tour. Oh my God. No. Babe, you're my whole FYP.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Like, oh my gosh. I was wondering what your FYP is. It's unfortunately. Oh. I, it's like, I'm trying to click not interested just because it gets a little bit too much. To watch yourself so much. I know.
Starting point is 00:16:23 I feel like very hyper aware of just like what my face is now. I'm like, oh, I don't want to see it. It's like too much. Yeah. I love any edits of like my friends. I'm saving him. I'm sending it to them. They're perfect.
Starting point is 00:16:33 I love. Your own edits. Yeah. I'm like, it's crazy. I don't know what is happening right now. What is happening? Let's fucking circle it back
Starting point is 00:16:42 if you guys aren't aware. Yes. Like Ella Bright is here. Star of Off Campus. People are blowing up. It's giving like the summer I turn pretty. Like now it's like Prime is like the place for these like young hot shows. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:00 No, completely. They've like found their niche. It's like I'm running with it. giving me like it's that but like X like tell me lies you know what I mean like it's because of the college thing and the sex the sex yeah but like you this is all happening right now yeah how is it feeling like it's it's huge and in in a short amount of time it's on one hand if I really hyperfocus on it it becomes a little bit overwhelming but obviously it's just full of like just so much gratitude.
Starting point is 00:17:33 And like it's very unbelievable right now. And it feels like if I can just, if I put my phone down, nothing's happening. So I'm like trying to just stay off the social media. It's not if you put your phone down because you're from thing to thing. You're like on every show and every, like everyone's talking about it. It's pretty crazy. But your schedule. It's been.
Starting point is 00:17:52 Yeah. It's honestly like out of any like things are happening to me that I like didn't even. They're not even dreams come true because I never even thought they could happen. Like it's been really like. crazy and just so exciting. And what I love is like all of us are genuinely so close. So yeah, we can just like debrief together and like we can do this. And you're all kind of going through it together. Exactly. Right. We're all, this is all so new to everyone. So like me and Bell were on the flight yesterday. Just like debriefing for all the hours just being like this is crazy. But like so cool. I can't even. Yeah. I don't even know where to start with that. It's crazy. What was like the craziest like this is my life moment that's been in the past few weeks. Yeah. I mean. We're doing Fallon tonight, which is like, I don't think that's going to hit me until I maybe, until like a month later. Like, ask me in a month and I will probably suck right because that's insane.
Starting point is 00:18:41 But for me personally, I, backstory, like, for season one of off campus, what I would do is like take a lot of long walks. Like walking is like my thing. And I would listen to Audrey Hobart's album. Not biking. No, no, no. Not biking. With your little helmet. Dude, I'm dying about the helmet. The helmet is so funny. It's so funny.
Starting point is 00:19:02 And it was such a meme when I was on set, I would like laugh about the helmet. And now it's like a thing on the internet. Oh, I didn't even see it on the internet. No, it's, oh. What are they saying? There's like this meme of me with like a big helmet. And it's like my life.
Starting point is 00:19:14 My sisters keep sending it to me and they need to stop. It's so funny. It's so funny. And it's like so like it's probably fastened like the way you're supposed to like according to the direct. You know what I mean? Like here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:26 And like that person who did my hair was like, yeah, it's helmet day. So we're not even going to try with this. Yeah. But you like long walks For long walks I was listening to that album Audrey Hobart and I was like obsessed with her
Starting point is 00:19:36 and for Christmas I got tickets to a concert and I was so excited I literally cried I love her so much I went to her concert with one of my best friends Tash and we just yeah
Starting point is 00:19:44 I was crying in the concert just being like oh my gosh this is so nostalgic for me and she I went on my TikTok I think two days ago and she's talking to her concert about how much she loves off campus
Starting point is 00:19:54 and her songs in our show and I literally sort of sobbing Does her song being in her show have anything to do with you? It is like it's It's a Dean and Alley scene, but I screamed when I heard Sue me. And then the fact that she was saying, like, oh, I binged it. I love it.
Starting point is 00:20:08 I was watching it with my cousin. I think she said I. Wait, and J-Lo? What? Yeah. She just followed us all on Instagram. I was like, wait, she followed all of you? Wait, so she's really watching.
Starting point is 00:20:19 I am not like, I, I, for a second, I was like, Jaylo, are you really what? You know what I mean? I was like, or does she love her dress? Yeah. I mean, the dress is amazing. She followed all, she followed all, she did. Yeah, and she's like, I mean, it's like, I mean, On the floor is now charted like the top 15 for the first time.
Starting point is 00:20:34 And it's got over a billion streams. Wait, what does? The song on the floor. It's crazy. Wait, you guys hyped up J-Lo? That is crazy. I literally sent Mika TikTok that was showing that the Spotify video is now her and Stephen.
Starting point is 00:20:50 And I was like, dude, what on earth is going on? She was like, I don't, we can't even talk about it. It's crazy. That is insane. It's crazy. Another thing that I'm seeing a lot in my DMs and I wonder if you're seeing it is like everyone's like, because I posted like, I was like, she's so beautiful. She's so great about you.
Starting point is 00:21:04 And people were like, and she's only 19. And she's only 19. Like people can't believe it or like it's shocking to them. Did you get that in your life before? Yeah. Not that you look older. I don't. Also, she's playing a college.
Starting point is 00:21:22 True. I was playing a 20, 21 year old. I was 18 when we were filming. So the show I'm 18. I mean, that was definitely a shock. because a lot of people who would meet me on the show and thought I was like 24, 25, which I had never gotten before. I've always been like sick.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Like people thought I was like 16 when I go home. Yeah. So that was really funny. And like I, it is really funny. People kind of, I keep watching these videos as like off campus car stages and it's like very funny. No, it's crazy. And it took, it kind of like was evolving. So like what I saw was people were like and she's only 19 a way of like and look at her.
Starting point is 00:21:55 She's already so great and so, you know, talented and doing this thing. But now it's like comparing the other ages. And it's funny. And having to defend you. I know. It's very funny when they, because I, listen, I was, I came into this job and during the chemistry reads with more than enough information and knowledge and understanding of what this role required and the show.
Starting point is 00:22:17 And I just fell in love with Hannah and in this, these scripts immediately. Like, there was never a question that I wouldn't want to do this. And like, I get people's concern, but also. Not once did I feel one left out from being younger than everybody. We're all such a family. And, like, everyone was just more than perfect. And I couldn't be more comfortable on this set with these people. So it is funny when they said that.
Starting point is 00:22:39 I'm like, I'm good. Yeah, I don't get it because, first of all, she's 19, was 18. Like, what were you guys doing in college? Like, what were you doing when you were 15? But also, you're playing a college person. Yeah, exactly. It makes sense. Thirdly, like, it was raunchy, but it wasn't.
Starting point is 00:22:57 like insane. Like you didn't have like nudity. No. Yeah. For Hannah and Ali, I remember one of my first calls I had with Louisa during the chemistry reads. She's the creator. Yeah, the creator, showrunner, incredible.
Starting point is 00:23:11 She's amazing. Her idea was that like for Hannah, the briefing was like partial nudity and for Ali, it had to be full. Just because Ali is this like, she is, you know, she's got this like amazing confidence about her and she like is so like free with her body and like sex is just like, like such an important part of her. Like it is, it's honestly just showing the, like, the difference between these characters. And for Hannah, obviously, given her backstory and, you know, she dresses more, like, innocently. And she's got, like, the skinny jeans and the hoodies.
Starting point is 00:23:40 And it's very, it just shows the kind of the dichotomy between the characters. Like, that was always from the beginning, the idea. All the Hannah's auditioning knew it was just going to be partial. And for, for Ali, it was going to be full. So everyone had, like, full understanding of what we were going into. Yeah. Yeah. So I don't get it. I don't, hey, it's the internet. Can we talk about the outfits? Yes. Okay. Yes, we can.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Okay. But when you were doing your fittings for this, is it your vibe? Were you like, okay, Hannah Girlie, you're a little different than me? Yeah, I think Hannah in the books is like very basic. She's got a little, what they say, like a pop of color. She's got like clips in and she's kind of very innocent schoolgirl-esque vibe. So we kind of like, yeah, recreated that for the show. So there's a lot of skinny jeans.
Starting point is 00:24:27 Yeah. Probably not my vibe, as we can see right now. Right. Plus, you're Genzy and Gen Z says no. Well, exactly. Yeah. But I loved it. I thought she's so, she's so cute and awesome.
Starting point is 00:24:36 She is so cute with her caries. Was tea. So I loved that. That was very fun. That was really fun. And that's like a Bridgett Jones. No, Bridget Jones, L. Woods, Regina George. Right.
Starting point is 00:24:47 I was like, wow. I feel honored. One of the great. You're like, make that fan at it, people. Have they? Have they made that? I think they've done like the comparison between L Woods. That I saw.
Starting point is 00:24:57 Yeah. But it's, it was, it was very tight, but it was really fun. No, and you had the corset. Yes. The corset moment. Yes. Which I was feeling you as like a boob girl. I was like, dude. She has to wear a bra.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Like, I would have to bring you wear a bra. You know what I mean? The amount of boob tape and bras that I wore on this show was hilarious. Really? It's like the silver dress that she wears for the pop showcase and the red top was just like, we were taped up. I became my, these costumes, like, we were best friends. Intimate. At this point because I was like, you're seeing everything right now because
Starting point is 00:25:27 we have to. We have to really get in there. It was crazy. But yeah, and like a lot of baby oil to like take it off and like ripping it. Oh my God. It was, yeah. And that's what I've also seen a lot as like people being like the bras on off campus. It's been really funny. Really? So many people ask me questions about like they want the link or what they want? I'm like, all Charlene. She's our costume designer and she's incredible. But yeah. Well, they were looking good, babe. Thank you very much. Well, tell me, let's go back in time. You did a few things, right? for acting for years, kind of, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:00 2020, was that your first gig? No, I've been acting since I was eight. So, yeah, long time. And, yeah, the biggest job I had before off campus, though, was a show called Mallory Towers that I started in 2019. And I grew up on that show. I joined when I was 12 and we finished when we were 18. Wow.
Starting point is 00:26:15 So, yeah, long, long time. And that's why my hair short, because for that role, she has like a 1940s Bob and it kind of became like an iconic thing for the character. Daryl Rivers is who I played. And she, yeah, so then when I go. got off campus. It was the year later and I was still growing out my hair. And I was doing all the hair oiling to try and get it as long as I could before we started continuity before season one. And it did it. It didn't grow. Continuity because you knew like I will be stuck with this hair.
Starting point is 00:26:40 Exactly. I was like, I'm going to have a bobbin off campus if I don't grow it out. And the bob was in Mallory Towers was here. I got it to here. And now we're here. And now I've got to recut it for Hannah because of what we were talking about. Like very like perfect. She's just sweet little Girl. Yeah, exactly. I think it works. It was actually really, it's really funny. And people on TikTok is saying that they want to cut the hair now. So I feel I'm honored to be part of it. No, I love that. Well, everything are going to do now, babe. People are going to want to fucking do. Oh, God. They shouldn't because I'm, yeah, don't know what I'm doing. So you getting into acting. Yes. So if you started at 12th, eight, eight. So were you that kid that was singing in front of the camera? Like how did you know this is what you wanted to do? I was just a very loud child. I was just a very loud child. And my parents were like, please, can we just get her out? Just go to perform, like, go to, you know, like the Saturday classes on the weekend where you do singing, acting, drama classes, just for fun. Because I was just always screaming and shouting. I have two younger sisters.
Starting point is 00:27:39 Oh, you have two younger sisters. Making them be in my performances. Wait, you're the eldest? I'm the eldest. Really? Yeah. Do I not give those vibes? Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:27:46 No. And that's good. You don't. Really? The eldest siblings can be like, rough. Okay. What are the differences? I.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Like, what are the ages? They are. So my middle sister is 16 and my youngest sister is 14. Wait, that's so cute. I'm one of three, too. Oh, no way. Sisters are the best. They have the absolute greatest.
Starting point is 00:28:04 It's like honestly, they're my favorite people. Like, I wouldn't do anything without them. They keep me humble for sure. They're sending me like the helmet meme. Dude, every day. How are they? Every day. How are they like, so they're keeping you grounded.
Starting point is 00:28:17 Yes. For sure. But are they also like, holy fucking shit. They're very, yeah, I think my whole family, like no one, again with the whole like starting acting young, it was very random because No one in my family extended or otherwise does anything remotely in this business. She's not an EPO guys. No.
Starting point is 00:28:33 But it's like been very just new to everybody and like we're all just trying to figure it out. But yeah, my sisters, any of their like favorite TikTokers who I was posting out of campus, that's when they spend it to me. And that's when they think it's cool, but they don't think it's cool that I'm in. They're like, you're annoying. We'd have your parents watched it? So I was saying that. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:51 So I got the screeners, Ali. And I was like, okay, we're going to sit my family down. I'm going to be able to watch it with you so I can. fast forward everything. And then I come back from the press store and they've seen it three times. So, and I said, did they skip? And they said no. So unfortunately
Starting point is 00:29:06 they have seen it. But that was against my consent, what would be like the most embarrassing like scene for you to know that your family watched? Probably the beginning of five. Remind me? It's like the sex montage. That's probably not what I would have recommended. But hey, it's all good.
Starting point is 00:29:24 I would think maybe the Well, also, yeah, then the mutual motion in four is also something. The mutual. Uh-huh. Yeah. That was crazy. Yeah. Because like when that was coming, I was like, okay, they're going to lay down.
Starting point is 00:29:40 Right. Yeah. But no. Pull up a chair. Come here. Literally, I was, that scene is so iconic in the books that I remember. Wait, in the books. So I haven't read the books.
Starting point is 00:29:51 Right. You, did you read the books in preparation or did you know about it before? What's funny is like just basically I found an online copy of the deal when I was auditioning and I kind of searched up on book talk like iconic scenes from the deal and that was the only one that came up. So I, this like mutual masturbation scene was like hilariously the first thing I knew about this show. And like it to be able to like actually film that scene and be done with it was hilarious because we were like we actually that's so funny. And like Louisa and I had a lot of conversations about it on the phone before the chemistry read. And then when I got the part I read the whole thing the next day. Like I bought I bought it. on Amazon immediately read the whole thing. And I read the deal. Right. So you haven't gone through all of them yet. I've read two more since then.
Starting point is 00:30:33 But yes, I am yet to read the fourth. I'm like very superstitious. I want to wait. What would you tell? Do you think like fans should read it? Like if they haven't, should we read it before the next seasons? Like what do you think? I mean, it's up to you.
Starting point is 00:30:48 The books, they're both very different in their own ways by it keeps keeping like the same heart and love for these like characters, personality and the vibe of Briu and just off campus in itself. But yeah, no, they are. We have different. We have differences from the books for sure. Oh yeah. I love the books. I love the show. So I think you can enjoy both for sure. We'll be right back after the break. So summer is upon us. And it's super exciting because that means like summer of outside vibes. But I also love their classic buckle clog because it has the little holes for the gibbids and everything like that, but it gives a really, like, a nice touch of elegance
Starting point is 00:35:20 because of that big buckle on the side. and I just, I love crocs so much. I just feel like they're like easy, slip on, slip off. I love when I'm like going to shoot something and I wear them with jeans and like a white tank on the way there and then I'll change into the heelsies or whatever I need to when I'm like on set.

Did you know, like the summer I turned pretty also a book, right? Yes, yeah. So did you know there's added pressure and craziness and fans going into this because this is based off a book that people are obsessed with?
Starting point is 00:38:15 Yeah, it was funny because we, when I, when the, deadline article came out that we got casted. So I truly I had very little Instagram. Like I was literally just like what was your because you're already passing a million, right? Which is, uh, so scary. I'm like it was crazy. I think it was like 10K maybe from Mallory. But it was, uh, it's been really wild. So I remember that coming out. And the next day, again, literally all that was out was like my headshot and it said Hannah Wells, whatever. I was on the tube and a girl comes up to me. It was like, oh my God, you're you're playing. You're playing. Hannah from the deadline article. And I literally was gagged. I was like, look to her like, she's crazy. I was like, how do you know that? Like it started from the deadline article. So then I was like kind of thinking to my herself, I feel like these book fans are
Starting point is 00:39:00 actually, I think this might have a bigger fan base than I maybe was first anticipating. And yeah, like, we are so lucky to have like this already built in base, which was so lovely to kind of like bounce off on. So like when the trailer was coming out and everyone who had read the books was like super interactive with it, which was amazing and like so grateful for them. I don't think we'd be anywhere without them. Did you have any idea, knowing even that, the deadline, the book? Yes.
Starting point is 00:39:24 Did you, you could never anticipate this, though? No, I still don't really know what's going on. Yeah, I remember we went to Brazil for part of the press store, which was absolutely incredible. I've never been to a cooler place. And we did a screening in Sao Paulo. And there was like a thousand people there with like flags of our, like, it was honestly a very emotional experience for all of us.
Starting point is 00:39:47 We got to sit and sit. secret behind the bleachers that everyone was stood in and watched them react to the first episode. Oh wow. And the screams were just like, I was in bits. We were all sobbing our eyes out just being like, this is really wild and overwhelming and it's so insane and so cool. And I just remember looking at Belmont being like, what is about to happen?
Starting point is 00:40:05 Because the show was coming out in a week and he was just like, we're all just going to get a lot closer than we are now. And I was like, great. That's all that needs to change. That's a sweet answer. Like we can all just be like in this together. Like really lean on each other. I love that.
Starting point is 00:40:16 I will never forget that. That's literally all I've been thinking about this whole time. It's like it doesn't really matter. Like I can put my phone down and just hang out with my friends. I love that. Yeah. He didn't say like, we're all about to get over a million followers.
Starting point is 00:40:26 No. No one. I don't think anyone expected any of this. And like obviously so grateful, but I'm more grateful that I just love these people so much. Because like imagine you didn't. No, that would be tough.
Starting point is 00:40:37 That would be really hard. So how long was filming? It was the whole summer. So from like May to right at the end of September. So I came home in October. And it's the same for this year. So we're just. Yeah, basically like reprecating the summer.
Starting point is 00:40:49 Wow. Yeah. And then what year was that? Like how long did it? Last year. Oh, yeah. It was false. So the turnaround isn't, isn't, I love it.
Starting point is 00:40:57 Yeah. I love that it doesn't take a long time. It was a great process. It was like we filmed it. Show came out. Now we're immediately going back to season two. Hopefully we're going to do it again and again. That'll be awesome.
Starting point is 00:41:05 I have a feeling. I have a feeling. I have a feeling you'll be fine. Yeah. And I heard the boys were living together in Vancouver. They want. They had a lot of time like spent together before because. they had hockey boot camp.
Starting point is 00:41:19 So they had to learn or to like be on skates and how to stand up straight, basically. Belmont and Jalen, I know, had never been on skates before in their life. But yeah, no, we all had separate apartments, but we were all like in close proximity to each other. So we were all always, always hanging out. So it was like college. It really was. Like we spent every night at Belmont's house. And like on Friday, we'd go to his.
Starting point is 00:41:39 And we'd like just eat churches chicken and like dress up and just like have so much fun into like really ridiculous. hours of the next day. And that was like my summer. It was just amazing. Wait, that's so fun. It was so cool. It was my college experience. I will say that for sure. Because you're, I'm assuming, not going to go. Yeah. So in the UK, we have A levels, which is basically kind of the exams that bring you into college and they're really important. So I really wanted to kind of lock in and revise for them. And I did my last audition before I was going to stop acting for a little bit to get into uni and revise. And it was off campus. And it ended up me being, yeah, flying back and forth with like 24 hours in London to sit this exam and coming back to prep for filming season one,
Starting point is 00:42:21 found out my results when we were filming. And then, yeah, it didn't end up going. I got a place at Bristol and Manchester University, though. So maybe, maybe someday, but we probably, I'm probably good for now. I'm okay. I'm enjoying this. What did your family say about that? They, it was a leap of faith for sure.
Starting point is 00:42:38 Because, I mean, I loved school. I really prioritized it over anything. So for me, getting off campus, it was very trippy. me to have a thing that now felt like a bigger priority. It was a very weird thing for me to get my head around. School was a priority. Yeah. And now I'm like, wow, I actually never thought that I could get a job that might push this
Starting point is 00:42:58 away and it really has in the best way possible. I kind of flipped my life upside down and in the coolest way. So yeah, for my family, it was definitely an adjustment. And we're just all, yeah, this has all just been really crazy. I feel like it's paid off. It's okay. Because you're you doing Mallory towers. Yes.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Yeah. You were like, I'm a working actress. Right? Like, did you want to, were you waiting for it to, like, explode? Or were you okay with that kind of momentum? Yeah, like, for me, I've never done press before. I, like, always for me, it's about the job. Like, I go to set.
Starting point is 00:43:29 I finish filming and that's it. Like, I never did any kind of not like celebratory run of, like, telling people to watch the show. Like, it was always just about coming to set and being with my friends. Yeah, because I grew up on that show. So I never expected to have anything like this happened to me. So this has been really just an honor. But yeah, for Mallory, it was just during the summer.
Starting point is 00:43:46 So I'd go to my summer camp with all my best friends who I met on that show and then we just go back to school. So it just kind of felt like an everyday part of my life. It never like, like, yeah. So. But you were, you must have been like dreaming about like, like, were you like Hollywood. Here I come after college. Like. No, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:44:03 No. I was just like take it one day at a time. Yeah. I really want to, yeah, do well in school. I was very lucky to have done pretty well my A level. So I was very happy about that. But I was just like, that was my priority. It was like acting.
Starting point is 00:44:14 I would have never considered myself calling. myself an actress until off campus. Like this was like a hobby for me. Damn girl. I don't know. So I feel like very honored. Like this is a dream come true but again like not a dream I had because I never thought it could happen to me if that makes sense. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:29 Like this is just like beyond anything that I could have imagined. So you get the audition. Yes. From your agent. Yeah. You do like a, uh, what do they call a like, like, yeah, self tape. Self tape. You did a self tape.
Starting point is 00:44:41 What was that scene that you did? So the self tape was the scene where it's an episode one. and Hannah runs into Justin Malones and it's like the dirty dancing I carried a watermelon scene and she like gives him the bag and then Garrett comes in and is like oh smooth
Starting point is 00:44:55 and then it's like kind of their fun banter when they're just strangers and she kind of hates him at this point and then the second scene was them in the platonic sleepover that they have in episode two and it's where she's like oh I don't write like that anymore
Starting point is 00:45:07 it's scary like telling the world something I'm not ready for it to know so you've got like the fun banter between Hannah and Garrett and like the more emotional side of her story which was fun But yeah, I did a self-tape and then kind of got flown to LA for less than 24 hours to do this chemistry read. It was wild.
Starting point is 00:45:23 That you guys have told the story that you didn't even exchange names before going into it. No. I met there was 28 different actors there. And it was for the Garrets, the Hanas, the Alis, the Tuckers, the Luggins, the Dines and the Justins. Everyone was there. I met everybody there. Everyone was getting paired off in groups. We had the hockey team being made. Hannah and Allie.
Starting point is 00:45:44 Hannah and Garrett. Ali and Dean, Hannah and Justin. But was he the only, was Belle the only Garrett that you did it with? No, I did it with three different Garrets. He was the one who felt like the most obviously. Like I, when he walked in the room and we did the scene, I was like, okay, I feel like this is, this is it. Like this feels very genuine
Starting point is 00:45:59 and real and they were obsessed with him from the beginning. So I was like, I know he's going to get the part. And they kind of like me with him, so maybe I've got a chance. That was kind of the only thing I was hanging on to. It's all like, like, everything has to like align. Because it is such like a found family show. It's more about
Starting point is 00:46:15 the friendships and kind of those formative relationships than anything else. So as much as the romance is important to get right in the chemistry, like the friendships are just as important. Yeah. So you really felt that from the beginning, which I loved. Yeah. And you became best friends with. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:46:28 Yeah. Mika is like, she's the, oh, my God. We stayed in the same apartment complex when we were filming and she's like my older sister. I would look up to her so much and she's the best. We're all genuinely such good friends. It's been just so fun to do to see a lot. I'm obsessed with like all the dudes too. Like I don't know.
Starting point is 00:46:44 I feel like that the. beginning, I was very into Logan. Right. Yes. Like, he's so cute. Oh, my God. Antonio's the best. And he's like the most incredible singer. So because of that, my FYP is serving me. Don't you worry. All of his singing. Yeah. I'm like, wait, he could have played Justin. Like, it was so funny because we did a karaoke scene. So many people could have played each other. Literally. And I was like the fact that they didn't get Logan to sing is a crime.
Starting point is 00:47:11 I feel like they're holding onto it. I think we're going to get hopefully a moment like that in in a later season. I saw people say that too. He's incredible. He's so good at singing. It's crazy. And his little crush on you, but that he kind of put away for the,
Starting point is 00:47:24 for Garrett. Yes. Well, no, I'm just kidding. I think it will see. I'm excited to see how that goes. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:47:31 no one really knows, like the characters don't know about it at this point. So it'll be interesting. It's in the books. And Josh isn't coming back. Which you are really tight, right? He's in your group chat with Mika now. We have a group chat called The Girls.
Starting point is 00:47:43 Mika, Josh and I, because we're not on the hockey team so we're like, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're forming in lives. He's the greatest. Then, both of them came to visit me in London on the offseason between seasons and like we just hung out. I took them to all the pubs and I love him so much. We're all going to miss him a lot. He's got a, he's got his own stuff going on. He's incredibly talented and I'm such a big fan. You knew of him before, right? Okay. Story time. So part of the chemistry read that I was freaking out about is like all the people
Starting point is 00:48:10 in the room I grew up watching and I'm such a huge fan of. And Heartbreak High is like my sisters and I favorite show ever. And he was staying the same hotel as me in L.A. And I'm on the phone with my best friend being like, okay, it's okay. It's going to be fine. It's going to be fine. I've got it. It's going to be fine. Breathe. We're going to go into the chemistry read. We're going to meet everybody. It's going to go great. I book the Uber. I'm waiting outside the hotel. I see Dusty from Heartbreak High, walk up. I literally went across the street, ran away. I was like, there's no way. And then I called her again. I was like, I think I just saw him. But he's not going to be in the chemistry read. There's no way. And then sure enough, we had to
Starting point is 00:48:44 read together. Wait, you didn't even know that he was, had anything to do with the show? No. I was like, I just saw him. I was like, oh my God, I'm so scared. And then he remembers me running away from him, which is hilarious. But I, because I didn't think I got the part at all. Like, I, there was no part of me that was like, I've got this in the bag at all. I went home being like, that was an amazing experience. They don't make you feel anything in the room. Not really. They're like, thank you. Is that what they do? Kind of, yeah, literally. And I remember just saying to Josh, I was like, you know what? I'm not going to see him again. So I'm just going to tell him. I was like, I love you in Harbury Kai. I'm a big fan.
Starting point is 00:49:14 I just want you to know that. Went home being like, I'm satisfied. I told everyone that I loved everybody. That's fine. And then I get the email. Oh, we got the part. And he's in it. And now he's like one of my best friends.
Starting point is 00:49:24 So very fun. So post chemistry read, you find out that you get it. I had two more Zoom meetings. They really put me through the ring off this. I did two more Zoom meetings. Two more reads. And then I had a music meeting. They said, come join this Zoom call because we want to talk about the singing in the show.
Starting point is 00:49:41 And I was not a singer. Like this was a very big insecurity of mine So I was like, okay, this is the part where they tell me I don't have it Because did you have to Did they ask you before if you could say? They asked me to send in a video And I sent a video playing two chords that I learned on the guitar It's called nothing arrived by the villagers
Starting point is 00:49:59 And I just sang like three lines of it And I was like, please don't listen to it in full. Like it was very scary for me And then they got on the Zoom and end up being a fake Zoom call And they were just like we actually don't have any music questions Like would you like to be Hannah Wells? And I just I couldn't even breathe
Starting point is 00:50:15 I was in so much shock Oh my God But wait it makes sense That she would have to know how to sing Because like she fucking sings Yeah like I Yeah Off campus has helped me grow
Starting point is 00:50:26 My confidence was singing From like zero to 100 Like it's insane Well you're saying before that You didn't like know you were No None of my best friends That ever heard me sing
Starting point is 00:50:36 Like this is not like They were laughing When I told him I got the pot And I was like oh and get this I have to sing And they all went, ah. They're like, there's no way. You can't do that.
Starting point is 00:50:45 I was like, I know. And then you're crazy. Like singing. And beautifully, by the way, there were other, I remember that the soundtrack is really good. Yes. So there were songs that came on that I was like, is that Ella singing? Because it was like kind of like a deep, raspy voice. And it wasn't you.
Starting point is 00:51:01 But that's how like good you are that I was like, oh, is she fully doing the whole soundtrack to the show? That would be so funny. Oh, thank you. Yeah, having a Spotify is crazy. me. I never thought that would happen to me. I've never even been in a recording studio before. So getting to sing these like insane original songs by the music team on our show and Amy Allen, who I'm like in awe of. Yeah, it's been really surreal and crazy. I'm like, we'll be right back after the break. When like I'm ahead of trends, like I just told you guys about bare nails.
Starting point is 00:51:34 Like now I'm like, you know, wired headphones, bare nails. Like, what can I do in my head of trends? And I do feel like I was ahead of the merit trend. Like now like Katie Holmes is, you using Merritt, which we love for her. But like, I remember when Catherine Power, I saw the founder come out with Merit and I was like a huge fan and I was like, this is amazing. I've been looking for a makeup brand that doesn't overcomplicate things, that doesn't confuse me, that doesn't make me feel like I'm an idiot that is easy and simple and good, okay? And clean. That's why. Like, clean was the number one thing for me. They literally have just clean, curated essentials that will help you get a fresh polished look in minutes, products that just
Starting point is 00:52:18 swipe right on, blend with your fingers, and move on with your day. Because, you know, less is more is a thing, and you should feel that way about your morning routine, especially if you're looking for a natural put-together look in minutes. One of my favorites is the minimalist stick. Okay, it lets you get a polished natural look in five minutes. It's a concealer slash foundation, slash neither, slash both, it'll replace those things in your makeup bag. And it really just is like chef's kiss, polished, effortless. Look, I also love their flush bombs. That's their blushes and their bronzers and their lip slicks.
Starting point is 00:52:55 Like, I literally love everything by Mary, you guys. They're great skin serum. Like, if you haven't checked out Merit, it is time. As you guys know, I am a huge fan of sparkling water. I like to taste the rainbow. You know what I mean? I love to taste the rainbow.
Starting point is 00:53:34 And when I'm eating food, especially, I'm like, I need a little something. I can't just have water, but also in between, I can't just have water. Like, water is for me is for, like, hydrating, and I need a little flavor for everything in between. And Spindrift is my favorite, bar none. I'm an OG fan of the product since the old dizzles, okay, since the old days. And why?
Starting point is 00:53:57 Because Spindrift makes real delicious beverages, okay? Spindrift is the only sparkling water in America made with real squeezed fruit. Yeah, say that again, because the best taste. comes from Mother Nature. You know why? Because it's made with real fruit and with great ingredients. It's literally like sparkling carbonated water.
Starting point is 00:54:21 And if you're doing like the lemon flavor, then it's like squeezed lemon juice. That's it. Okay. Every spindro's sparkling water is made literally from farm to can. You can literally taste the difference. I love the OG flavor as like lemon, lime, and grapefruit, but they have cherry a new flavor,
Starting point is 00:54:39 which is sick, blood orange tangerine, raspberry lime, island punch. So many, so freaking good. And my listeners get 15% off their next order of SpinDrift. Because they love it, and I love it because Johnny Pops makes delicious frozen pops that are made with simple ingredients, no artificial dyes, a better pop for a better world. I love that. I love that for us. Johnny Pops is just such a nostalgic brand.
Starting point is 00:55:35 I love it so much. There's a treat for everyone. You got chocolate fudge minis. I love a mini because then I feel, you know, I feel good about my kids having it. It doesn't feel like too much. Feels like the perfect serving for them. There are chocolate-dipped strawberries, organic unicorn twist, rainbow fruit snacks, and even new no-sugar-added options, which I love since Mama be taken bites, okay?
Starting point is 00:55:56 So many delicious options to choose from in the summertime and anytime. What I love is that Johnny Pops is actually named in honor of someone named Jonathan. And in his honor, there's a kind deed. printed on every stick. It's a small detail, but it really turns every pop into a little moment of connection. It can even create little moments in your own family if you talk about that kindness and the importance of sharing kindness, big and small. There are new flavors, and I love that Johnny Pop keeps surprising us with new delicious flavors like organic rainbow fruit stacks, the chocolate-dipped strawberry, the unicorn twist, and no sugar added. Again, all this made with simple

When did you live in New York? Because I saw that you were born here. Yeah, I was born in New York, and then we kind of moved back and forth from New York to London until I was like six, I think. And And I've been in London. I don't really remember it. But I had the accent when I was a kid.
Starting point is 00:57:13 And now it's gone. What kind of accent? Just like, well, so my dad's in Oklahoma and my mom's from California. So I feel like, your parents aren't British. No, I'm fully American. The only British people in my family are my sisters and I. That's funny. My entire family still live in Oklahoma and California.
Starting point is 00:57:28 Did they move to give you an accent and have a competitive edge? They would like to say that. It was because of my dad's job. But like, yeah, I think they love the British accent. So it's very funny. My cousin's always like, speak, speak. Wait, that makes sense. sense, though, because your American accent is so good.
Starting point is 00:57:41 Oh, thank you. And I'm so sensitive to that. Like, I feel like one of my superpowers is like being like, that actress is British. Like, I know it. And then I'll look it up and be like, knew it. Because just like some paw or like some drawn out words. Right. Your American accent is so good.
Starting point is 00:57:57 I would have never known. Oh my God. If you weren't all over my feet. They're like, she's 19 and British. Like, oh my God. So it's not hard for you to go do that. It's not, it's honestly, like, the castmates also help me a lot. Like, Bell and I would just, like, read it in a really harsh Valley Girl accent.
Starting point is 00:58:15 That was, like, how we got into the accents is, like, we do line runs. And I just taught, like, this and, like, do it really, really harsh and then kind of dial it back when we were filming. That was, like, my entry into it. And I also had a few dialect coach sessions. But, yeah, it was, like, on the easier side, for sure because of my mom. So, yeah. Have you done it before for anything? No, no.
Starting point is 00:58:34 For all my other roles, it's, like, very posh, RP accents for British. crazy. Yeah, it was really, it was a big change for sure. Thank you. So who do you think from the cast is the most like their character in real life? I'm gonna say Jalen. I think Jalen who plays Tucker. He's so cute from the pit. Oh, he's the greatest. Oh my God, he's insane in the pet. I, uh, yeah, I would say Jalen or maybe, maybe even Antonio minus the like fixing the car. Like he doesn't do that, but he If John Logan sings, then probably like the same kind of vibe personality, just like that sweetness and like kindness of the character. Yeah. And what about you and Hannah? What do you have in common? I feel like very connected to Hannah. I feel like she's just like I want to be her best friend. I love her so much.
Starting point is 00:59:24 I think we both have like this very weird like quirkiness about each up like but kind of like own it. Like it is kind of funny. She's clumsy. I'm the most clumsy person you will ever meet. And I made Hannah more clumsy. The first scene that you see Hannah in when she falls over the. the laundry car. That was not meant to happen. No way. That happened. The first we grew filming, I tripped over. I fell. I was mortified. And then Silver Tree, our director came in with Louisa, and they were like, we love it. We love it. Do it again. And I was like, oh, they're just trying to make me feel better about me falling in front of like a million people that I never met before. And I was like, you guys are being very nice, like whatever. And then it turns out being ridden
Starting point is 00:59:59 into the show. And it's now the first thing you see. Stop with what was supposed to happen. You were just like spin around. I was just, no, I was just meant to spin around go, oh my God, sorry. take the laundry car and leave. Stop. But I fell and then I was like, oh my God. And it's now in the show. That was not meant to happen at all. No, that.
Starting point is 01:00:15 But they loved it. So that's good. That scene, that was a great opening scene. It's funny. It's really funny. And then it kind of comes back around at the end when you see a hundred penises. Well, exactly.
Starting point is 01:00:25 Yes. That was a fun one to the shoot for sure. Were those real? Yeah. Everything's real on our show. Oh yeah. Bring him out. Bring him out.
Starting point is 01:00:36 I'm out. One of the edits that came up for me aside from like, Jalen, 28 years old, hell up, right, 19 years. No, it's literally like an AI voice doing it. Yes. They did like that about like everyone's relationships. And it seems like a lot of the people are in relationships in the IRL. Yeah. Which is how maybe you guys are avoiding like rumors, like hookup rumors. Because it's not the case at all. Like we're all just genuinely just best, best friends. Like we're so close and like everyone who's like all the girlfriends and boyfriends, like everyone is so part of our friendship group. Like it is, it's just a big family, anyone who comes in. So that makes like life very easy.
Starting point is 01:01:14 I can't imagine being on a set where everyone's kind of. Single and ready to mingle. Yeah, that would be a bit, I think, messy. So I'm really grateful to not have that for sure. I mean, Josh did say you can't help but fall in love with Ella, but you guys are good friends. Josh is like one of my best friends. I love him so much.
Starting point is 01:01:30 It's funny when we, I see comments about that. I'm like, dude, that's crazy. Another thing that people are talking about is like, guys like that don't exist in real life. You know what I mean? Like the characters, you know? Like hot play sports are like emotionally intelligent. Are like kind.
Starting point is 01:01:50 Yeah. Care about their fans. You know what I mean? It's just like what do you think about that? So for me, which is really funny, I, so I went to an all girls school. I have two sisters. All my cousins apart from one are all girls. Like I grew up with only women.
Starting point is 01:02:05 All my friends, my sisters go to the same school, so we all had just women running around. It was amazing. So these are my first guy friends, the cast, which is so funny. And, like, honestly, they're so much like their characters. Like, they are the most, like, respectful and kind guys. I mean, I've only interacted with very few,
Starting point is 01:02:21 but it's, yeah, they're amazing. So I guess, I guess they do exist. So it makes me have hope for life. For men out there that men could never, though. Men could never. Like the shirt says, it's true. Yeah, it is true. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:34 there was a little bit of she's all that vibe totally right like at the beginning where it's like oh you would never like a girl like me i'm like a perfect girl like you like what do you mean you know what i mean but i like they gave me a little bit of she's all that there's a lot of like two thousand references 16 candles actually like there's a lot of john hues as well so we have breakfast club with my shoes at the beginning then we've got the very overt reference where the car comes by in episode eight and he stood there and she comes out of the church but it's like me coming out of the pop showcase and Ali and Dean with the cat like there's a lot of that yeah she's all that L Woods like you've got kind of a lot of things going on which is fun that's why it feels very nostalgic I think that that probably is why it feels like that because it just reminds you of like these old yeah because it is Y2K but it's like also has those with Instagram yeah with Instagram yeah what is your like relationship with social media I honestly I spend a disgusting amount of time making an Instagram dump I love Instagram uh that's like my life is You're less TikTok more Instagram?
Starting point is 01:03:35 I find myself scrolling on TikTok, but in terms of Instagram, like I love posting on that. I've only really started posting for TikTok for the show, which has been really fun. But yeah, right now, I think I should stay off because it does get a lot. It is kind of crazy. But it's all positive. But it's been lovely.
Starting point is 01:03:53 There's obviously there's few, like, negative stuff, but like it's all just comment. I'm just glad people are talking about it. Like, it just means the world. And I feel like once you go back filming, you're going to be in the bubble again. Yeah, in our safe place. And then you'll have a year off. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:10 Or like September till. September 2. Or maybe you'll do some. Or maybe I'll do another job. We'll see. Right. Maybe you won't want to rest in between. Yeah, we don't know.
Starting point is 01:04:19 I have no idea what's going to have it. All I know is we're going to season two and it's going to be amazing and I can't wait to just because at the end of the day, we're just happy that people are liking the show so that we can keep coming back to work. Like that's important. So I'm just so happy. I saw that. a new cast member was just announced.
Starting point is 01:04:35 India. I just saw I was just in Vancouver and we were hanging out. We watched the new obsession movie together in the cinema and we were, I think we're trauma bonded now because that was terrifying. What obsession movie? Have you not? It's the horror movie that's come out. No.
Starting point is 01:04:48 It's, dude, it's so scary. Really? Like, we watched it together with Jalen. We went to Earls, which is like an iconic place in Vancouver. I had to take her. And then we went to the cinema and I was just like clutching on to her for day life. I literally met her three hours before. No.
Starting point is 01:05:01 Wait, that's so cute. You went to the movies. She's the best. Can you go to the movies right now? Like, how is that happening? We just get a few people coming up to us, but everyone's lovely. So it's actually, so chill. And Canadians are the nicest people are the nicest people ever.
Starting point is 01:05:14 So it's actually honestly so fine. Like all the restaurants we keep going to, the waiters are like recognizing us and being so lovely and kind. And I just like to, like, it's just so fun. It's just crazy. And Vancouver is a fun place to film in, right? Vancouver is also just beautiful. Like we, I, we went to Whistler as a group.
Starting point is 01:05:31 for like a bonding experience and the most stunning thing I've ever seen. We all stayed in a 10-person house and played hide-and-seek until like 5 a.m. in the morning. Chelsea Handler has a house there. Maybe you saw her in the mountain. Oh, my God, maybe. I want to go again. I hope you get to go again.
Starting point is 01:05:45 Or like maybe Tifino. It's so stunning. I do not ski. No. I've only been skiing one time. So you went to hang out. We went. It was in the summer.
Starting point is 01:05:53 So all the snow had melted anyway. And we're also not allowed to do skiing because of contracts. And if we break a bunch of legs, that won't be good. Do you know how to skate? I do know how to skate. I love ice skating. So I was really pushing for Hannah to get on ice. She gets on ice one time and I loved it.
Starting point is 01:06:08 I tried to use up every second I could. Yeah, I go ice skating every year for Christmas. I love it so much. Oh, really? Yeah. But definitely not ice hockey. That's another thing. Right.
Starting point is 01:06:19 Oh my God. I love the show so much. I'm so sad that it's over for me. I can stop. More coming. Right. Yeah. I mean, got to wait a little bit.
Starting point is 01:06:26 I can't stop thinking about the song that's stuck in my head. Yellow, yellow. Oh my God. It's so funny because that was stuck in all of our heads the whole summer. And it was weird thinking that other people didn't know this song. Like I was like, this song feels so. I mean, it was going platinum in our heads. Right.
Starting point is 01:06:43 It feels like it's like a song that's on like top 100. It's honestly, Josh did an incredible job. I love that song. And I hated that Hannah didn't like it because I had to act like I hated the song. I love the song. And I was thinking that. I was like everyone's acting like it's the worst song ever. I know.
Starting point is 01:06:58 It's amazing. I mean, the, what you guys, we're saying was true, it's like, is it. Yeah. It is unclear what a yellow haze is. But the way he did it in that like, yeah, like was just like, yeah. Is that like on Spotify?
Starting point is 01:07:13 Like, yeah, everything's on Spotify. Yeah, we've got, I think Cherry Pie and the Bitches Back is not currently on Spotify. Wait, the Bitches Back is that? Originally Tina Turner. No, Elton John. Oh, because I know like the Tina Turner cover. Okay, I honestly admittedly didn't know this song before. I got the scripts.
Starting point is 01:07:31 I mean, listen, I was thinking that. A lot of songs in this show. Yeah. Like cherry pie I'd never heard before. Yeah. They all became on my Spotify top five. I kind of love that though. That they were doing like old school vibes.
Starting point is 01:07:43 Again, with the like nostalgic feeling. Right. It can like appeal and cater to kind of everyone, which is really fun. And the songs are awesome. I love them. Yeah. So good. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:52 The soundtracks are so good. And at the beginning there's like, are you more of a Taylor or a Gaga girl? But I think that by the end it was clear. that you're a Taylor. Very. And I, Ella, I'm a huge Swifty. Yeah, you are. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:05 So I was very happy to hear her. Eras? Have I, I went twice in a row. I went two days in a row. I dressed up as poison ivy for the first night. And then I dressed up as the 1989 Seagull from the album cover. You went in theme. Oh, I went in theme.
Starting point is 01:08:19 And then my first concert was 1989, Hyde Park tour. I went to the reputation tour. I'm obsessed. I love, I love Taylor Swift. Baby, you know what this means? Like, you're going to get like a. note from her. No, no, no. You can't say, I will cry. If I ever interact with Taylor Swift, that will be, I think, the only person I can think of that I would just like,
Starting point is 01:08:39 freeze and I know. No, no, no. That's going to be your like moment. We, you guys were submitted for the Emmys. Oh my God. Crazy. Right? Help. Yeah. It was wild. You were submitted for best actress along with some other, uh, submissions. Yeah. It's so cool. I don't know what, like, could you imagine? Like, if you close your eyes, could you imagine? Could you imagine? yourself like on the Emmy state. Thank you so much. Could you imagine? I will see what happens.
Starting point is 01:09:06 I just wanted to be put up. That's like so cool. No, it is the coolest thing ever. I can't wait. Oh my God. For you guys to take over. So, okay, Taylor Swift is like your your mouth rush more.
Starting point is 01:09:20 But like you're going to be meeting a lot of people and probably have it already. Who else is somebody you would like completely fan girl over? Oh my gosh. So many. Girl or guy. I, hmm, that's such a good question. Kind of, I'm like a big fan girl when it comes to just things. Like everyone in the cost will tell you, like, we will go to events and I will be the one pointing out every single person.
Starting point is 01:09:41 Because you're like a pop culture girl. Yeah, I'm obsessed. And everyone's like trying to be so cool. And I'm like, I'm freaking out. I'm literally freaking out right now. And everyone's like, I'm like, come down. Be chill. I'm like, I can't.
Starting point is 01:09:51 I can't do it right now. Like, again, the chemistry reads freaking out. Right. We went to like this vanity fair party in January. And I was dying. What was it? Young Holly? would? I did, yeah, I did that in, I did the young,
Starting point is 01:10:02 Oh, that was March, May. In London. And I went to that event myself, and everyone was very lovely, but I kept going up to everyone. It was like, I'm in, like, school again, like, trying to make friends. Oh, no, going to an event, I was terrified. It was terrifying. Like, going to an event by yourself, like, people don't understand. It's rough. I had to get three margaritas and drink them in the bathroom and be like, okay, here we go. Let's, let's be brave. And then I ended up hanging out with, like, two of the, like, most lovely girls ever, and they were so awesome. But, um, well, it does force you
Starting point is 01:10:26 to, like, make Convo. It does. I was actually proud at the end of the night, I was like, I made five new friends. Yes. It was really funny. Everyone's also like, thinking you remind them, I feel like I've heard Lucy Hill. Yes. Who else did you hear?
Starting point is 01:10:42 I get Brook Shields kind of like 24-7, which is so funny. I did Kelly Clarkson and she was the first guest, Brook Shields. And I was like, I don't think I can meet her and tell her that people tell me. Because imagine she's like, no, you don't. I would be mortified. So I kept that to myself. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:58 I was like. You imagine. You were like, like you in blue lagoo? I mean, she's stunning. She's so, I mean, it's an honor to even like be concerned. I'm like, wow. Well, you're stunning too and the eyebrows and everything. I think it's the eyebrows.
Starting point is 01:11:09 I think that's what people. The eyebrows and the eyes. Yeah, people like say I look like a lot of people just because I think of those two things. Those two features. Yeah. I got you. Brinette, eyebrows, eyes. And it's kind of like a lot of people.
Starting point is 01:11:21 And we can't wake up to. See you say, all right, Pita this hair right now. Oh my gosh. We're going back to the bulb. I know. I'm actually. excited because I feel like that'll be nice to get into the vibe of the character and being on set again. Right. It'll make you feel like her again. Yeah, exactly. So I'm actually excited.
Starting point is 01:11:38 Another thing that I thought was like fun in the in the in the in the in the show and also like because I feel like a lot of times when somebody has a nickname for someone. Like but the minute they become romantic, they feel like they have to change that. Right. Right. Like yeah. And I love that he kept calling her wellsy. Yeah. And didn't say like well now we're you know lovers. So I have to. And Louisa was very careful of what times Garrett called Hannah Hannah or Wellsey, Wellsey. Like we used those names like in kind of like, you know, if they're feeling comfortable or she's in a vulnerable moment, then we'll say Wellsey or there was like certain times where it'd be Hannah and it would be more relevant to call her that. Like it was all very well thought through. Sometimes he would say Wellesie in a scene that wasn't meant to. It was a Hannah scene and we'd have to go back and change it.
Starting point is 01:12:24 Like it was very, and like for Hannah, I was never, it was also very careful when she would. say sorry. I'm British. I say sorry to people if they knock into me, I'm like, I apologize profusely. But for Hannah, it was like, she isn't an apologetic character. So I had to choose when I had to say those words. Like, everything is very well thought through because the writers are just incredible. And yeah, I mean, Louisa will probably talk about it in a lot better than I can. She's also super young, right? She's, I was like, wait, she's not like in college with them, you know? I mean, she's stunning. I, I, yeah, yeah, she's insane. She's our favorite person ever.
Starting point is 01:13:02 She changed all of our lives. I'm so I'll be forever grateful for her. She's, I could listen to her talk about her work for a million years. She's just got this way of speaking and she's just got so much intelligence. Like, she's amazing. Yeah. What are you watching right now? Okay.
Starting point is 01:13:15 So on the plane, because I, we don't get Love Island USA. Like, I watch obviously Love Island, UK. But on the plane, I was watching the Love Island season seven USA. And I watched the whole thing with, and Belmont kept like, looking over my shoulder being like, what are you watching? I was like, you don't get it. You don't get it. It's upsetting that he doesn't and he needs to learn.
Starting point is 01:13:36 I also watch a lot of like Netflix reality. So like selling sunset. Oh, did you hear though? Nobody's coming back. I know. Selling the OC though, we have still, I think. You're watching selling OC? I have, I watch everything.
Starting point is 01:13:49 Honestly, any reality show I will, I will watch Secret Life of Mormon Wives again. Oh, secret lives of Mormon Wives. It's like my life. Dad talk. Yeah. Dad talk. Ugh. No. Before we go, thank you so much for being here and for taking the time.
Starting point is 01:14:02 Thank you for having me. What is the most Gen Z thing about you? Oh my gosh. Oh, that's okay, that all of my friends communicate and myself included on Snapchat. We don't text. We don't. I mean, I hate base time. I can't do it.
Starting point is 01:14:21 So, like, my friends who are watching know that I will never pick up the phone. They won't pick up. I won't pick up the phone. Why? I get so stressed. I don't know what it is. about FaceTime. I get freaked out. Like a cold FaceTime. Yeah. No, no, no, you can't do that to me. I really, I can't do it. I'm like scared. And like on, on Snapchat, we send each other
Starting point is 01:14:37 vlogs and I'll be like mid sending a vlog and then they'll call me because they know I'm online and I'm like, I have to pick up. Wait, I do love it. Tell me what is, I'm, I feel like a grandma-ma. What is a Snapchat vlog? Just like a video. Day in the life you're doing to your friend. Yeah, like my friends and I, so we'll send each other like 20 minute long vlogs of like just updates. So if I. I'm like doing this press store. I haven't been able to be on my phone as much. And I'm like, just send me vlogs.
Starting point is 01:15:02 Just send me vlogs. And then like I get to kind of, if I get some time, watch everything that they've been doing and then someone back and it's like really fun. So they're sending you their vlogs, which is like them, you know, going in the grocery store. And you're sending your vlogs being like Jimmy Fallon, you know what I'm. They're like potting it up right now. I have big fomo from the UK. Oh, really?
Starting point is 01:15:21 Yeah, I love them so much. You communicate only on Snapchat. That's crazy. No, literally. I don't have the app. Oh my. Yeah. So I think when I first got into the cost, I was like, everyone gave me your snap.
Starting point is 01:15:32 And everyone was like, no, I don't have that. And then Stephen has Snapchat. So I text, I text. A group. Oh, so you use the messaging. Yeah, but I use all of like my outside of off campus friends on on Snapchat. Can, like, fans follow you on Snapchat? How does that work?
Starting point is 01:15:49 No, no. Oh, it's like a private Snapchat. Yeah, yeah. I've had a few requests, but no. No. Decline. Sorry. Sorry.
Starting point is 01:15:59 Like they found it. Like they found it. Yeah. But that's for friends only. That's for friends. Yeah. Yeah. I don't post anything on like,
Starting point is 01:16:07 unless it's like my private story. But yeah, I use Snapchat a lot. That's like my communication with everybody. Do like filters on Snapchat? No. I used to be. I used to use it for like the bunny ears or something.
Starting point is 01:16:18 Yeah. I used to be like very if I was like, when you're like young and you're like talking to someone and you like don't want to show your like actual face. I would do like a filter. But I don't do that anymore. That's like, now it's all about the voice.
Starting point is 01:16:28 Now it's the vlogs. So what would what would like 8 year old Ella say about what's going on right now? I think she would yeah be in as much disbelief as I am now
Starting point is 01:16:45 honestly like this is this is just crazy. I'm so grateful to like be doing these things and like coming here. Like it's just like it's all just so cool. I think she'd just be like that's how I am inside. And then also.
Starting point is 01:16:58 At home, do you live at home still? Yeah. Yeah. I love it. My first time living alone was filming season one because, again, was going to go off to the uni, but we came to Vancouver. And then I got to spend a lot more time at home with my family. Was that scary?
Starting point is 01:17:10 Like, good night, world. It honestly wasn't because with Mallory Towers, we had to, we were filming in Toronto and we had chaperones. So my family doesn't really, like, they came to visit, I think, once. So I'm very used to kind of going away for the summer. But it was fun living alone. I loved it. So I'm excited to do it again.
Starting point is 01:17:28 and then hopefully get a move out to New York at some point in the next year. You would want to do New York? Oh, definitely. Oh, yeah. And because of the American citizenship, it makes life easy. So I'm very grateful for that. Wait, you're going to move to New York. Yes.
Starting point is 01:17:39 I don't drive. I don't drive. So anywhere that, like, it has a subway or a tube or a bus I need to go to because I don't know how to do. Maybe you're not going to be taking the subway here. I love the subway. I love the tube. I love the London bus. You know what the left do do it.
Starting point is 01:17:52 But let's see. Let's talk in a year. I just can't drive. I'm dead. Uber. Uber. That's true. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:59 That is true. But I like that you're in New York Girl. I met very much New York. L.A. are like going to for walk. I think it's so beautiful and cool. But like to live in, I think I got to go to New York.
Starting point is 01:18:08 I love that. We love that. Yeah. Well, thank you for coming again. Thank you for how this is so fun. I can't wait to see season two and the ride you're about to go on. Thank you.
