The following podcast is a dear media production.
Welcome back to the Not Skinny Bonafat podcast.
I'm your host, Amanda Hirsch, and I still can't believe that I get to chat with some of my
favorite stars on my very own podcast, where you'll feel like you're just talking shit
with your best friends in your living room.
Hey guys, and welcome to a new episode of Not Skinny Bonafat.
It's your girl, Amanda.
Happy Tuesday, if you're listening on a Tuesday.
And happy week to anybody listening.
on a later on a later date.
How has everybody been doing?
I've been obsessing over the Lindsay Clancy trial.
I'm like, I hate my sister, Ariel.
She's the one that brought me into it to this.
One fine day.
She was like, have you heard of this?
And I was like, yeah, I heard, but I made a decision to not get into it.
You know, you try to protect yourself of things in this world.
There's enough things out there that drive us crazy and that eat away at our brains.
And I was like, let me stay out of this mom murdering her kid situation.
but then she was telling me all these crazy facts,
and I decided I need to know more.
I don't regret it because I think it brought out a lot of interesting points
and a lot of things to think about.
Obviously, there's my world,
which I like to keep kind of like fact-based and pretty normal.
And then there's the TikTok rabbit holes that I was trying to get my information on TikTok
at first.
Silly me, because everyone was just conspiring and deciding that the husband did it.
and, you know, coming up with their own form of the trial.
And I was under the impression that it was, you know,
she's on trial for whether she did it,
kind of in cold blood and intentional and all that.
Or did she do it, but she did it because she was in psychosis.
And then it's like, you know, you don't go to jail.
You would go to like a mental hospital or something like that.
I don't know exactly.
But now with the closing arguments coming in today,
which I listened to the closing arguments for the prosecution and for the defense,
I understood that there's kind of a third option.
There's not guilty that she just didn't do it because the prosecution didn't prove it without a reasonable doubt,
which I do agree that it wasn't really a proven case.
I do agree that like Reddington said, no investigation was even made.
It was kind of just decided that that's what happened because that's what Patrick said,
which I do understand that that's tricky.
I'm still not in the conspiracy theories that he planned this whole thing.
He was the voice in her head.
I do think, though, that we are basing her guilt on what he said happened and her admission
on what he said happened, which is a crazy thing on its own.
So, like I said, the jury is now deliberating, which is just crazy to me.
On polymarket, 36% of traders think that Lindsay Clancy will be convicted of murder.
that means that the higher percent of people think that she won't be, which I'm assuming that means they think she will be not guilty by reason of psychosis, which means they think she couldn't conform to the law because of her mental state.
I will have to say that I don't know where I stand on these odds. I don't know how I feel. I don't know. I definitely want her to get the help.
that she needs. However, I do have in the back of my mind all the time that these three kids
were freaking killed and in a horrific way. But because I can have multiple feelings at the same time,
of course I feel sorrow for her and for how much she screened for help, how much she wanted to
get help, how much she tried to get help. And I'm not necessarily at this point after, you know,
listening to the trial saying that every medical person failed her. But I'm
I will say that, like, she didn't get better and she definitely, definitely tried to.
And I personally feel like I blame more of the people around her, like the fact that Patrick did live with her and she was going through all this telling him she even had thoughts of harming the children.
It's like, okay, well, peace out.
I mean, I know he worked from home, but this should have been taken way more seriously by the journals that she was keeping, by the amount of doctors that she was going to.
This was a dire, dire situation that could have been prevented if it would have been.
was taken seriously enough by the people around her.
It's hard to make a judgment like that.
But like I said on Pollymarket, 36% of people think she will be found.
She would be convicted of murder.
So that means that more people think that she won't be.
I am really eager to see the deliberation of the jury.
I don't know how long they get.
I know that it's more women around the jury.
So I feel like that's good for Lindsay.
But like I said,
I have so many feelings about this case and actually don't know which way it will go.
Anyway, so I am waiting to see what the jury decides.
It's not an easy decision.
And I just, like I said, I've been so glued to this case like so many of us.
So I'm really kind of on the edge of my seat waiting for it.
In a sharp turn to today's guests, which will bring light and levity and fun
to our lives. This is somebody who
was on the pod many times. Friends of
the, friend of the pod, friend of mine. We
kind of start at the same time. I find him hilarious. His new Netflix
special is hilarious. It's called the family plan.
And he basically goes through what a vacation looks like with his
very quirky family. It's Jared
Freed. I have so much fun whenever Jared is on. And this
Time was no different.
So Polymarket, when you're asking,
what will be the number two U.S. Netflix show this week,
Beauty and Black Season 3 or Outer Bank Season 5?
I want to add Jared Freed's special,
the family plan, to that list.
All right?
New entertainment, culture, sports, and politics markets
are coming to the app every day,
so be the first to trade on them.

Trading is risky 100% loss can occur.
Anyway, enjoy my episode with Jared and don't forget to watch his special The Family
Plan on Netflix.
It's one hour of just pure giggles.
Watch it with your partner.
Watch it with your siblings.
Watch it with your fam.
It's a good one.
I know now, sitting on this couch, this is not for a big guy.
This couch is going to make me look like I need to lose.
No, by the way, you look great.
I feel good.
Okay.
Listen, I'm proud GLP1.
You?
The best.
Maybe we haven't talked about this.
I could talk about it for weeks.
You're on a GLP1?
My whole new hour, so you watch this.
Are we taping?
Yeah.
Are we going?
My whole new on the road is about my dad offering me his Ozempic at dinner.
Wait, this is very not your brand to be on a GLP1.
What's my brand?
My brand is body issues.
I think anyone with body issues needs to be on a job.
And how has it been for you?
I love it.
It's the best drug.
Well, you lost a lot of weight.
It's not even that.
The weight thing gets overplayed, I think.
I've lost like 10.
And I just, I don't feel the pressure.
The pressure to like go to the gym if I ate wrong.
Yeah.
You know, the pressure to like, you know, to, to, if I eat one bisc off on a plane, the day is ruined.
Well, this is what I always loved about you because maybe it became a little bit more, you know, in the world that.
men deal with body image stuff too.
You know, Taylor Lautner came out
talking about on Twilight. He was,
you know, people expected a thousand abs
after Twilight. People are talking about a little
bit more men, I mean. But you were
really always talking about it. And it was a
little bit taboo. Well, yeah.
Because you don't think a man overthinks a
biscoff. You're like, oh, a man can eat a thousand
biscoff and nothing will happen.
I walked so Taylor
Lautner could run. I've always said
that.
Yeah. I love how you're like,
Lautner.
Lautner.
Is that how?
I mean, now you're making me.
I was always a Patinson guy.
You were.
You were team.
Team whatever.
I loved Kristen Stewart's response that.
She's on a press tour as well.
Yeah.
And she was.
Has she been in here?
You're like the Oprah now.
You are.
Do you?
I feel good about your success.
Do you have that with certain people?
I have that with you.
Do you?
I really do.
It means a lot.
Because when I, we did your podcast in your apartment.
Babe, I'm very where I thought you were going to murder me.
Yeah.
I almost did.
You came in grumpalicious.
Grumpy.
Rainy coffee.
It was like a New York coffee.
It wasn't like a Starbucks.
It was like a deli coffee.
Totally.
Right?
It was,
if anyone wants to picture it,
it was Bethany Frankel apartment season one
of Real Housewives of New York.
It was.
Bethany Frankl going and doing skinny girl
at Farmer's markets.
That was your apartment.
And like you walk in,
I don't know if it was like a raincoat.
Like I know you don't smoke,
but like you might as well have just smoking.
downstairs.
Like the, it was that coffee cup from the movies.
Yes.
Of like, you got it at a deli.
The Greek coffee, yeah.
But yeah, so we've been doing this for a while.
Look at us now.
Look at us now.
This is it.
Don't fucking hustling, right?
Truly.
I mean, that's the-
We were talking about it before we started, like, that you're promoting your special
and that it's on you.
You watched it, right?
I watched it.
I wanted to wait till the air to tell you, like, I was, and I told Regina, like, I was cackling.
That means the world.
The family plan.
It's on Netflix.
It's on Netflix now as we speak.
It's an hour, beautiful timing.
Thank you.
Love that.
One hour, jokes every 10 seconds for an hour.
And I love the way you tell.
I love how you tell jokes because it is a story.
And I don't know how you do it, but you like come back to the thing.
So like my mom, ADHD,
whatever TikTok wants to diagnose me with, would never be able to come back.
Well, that's the whole.
So it's a one-hour story about going to the beach with my parents.
Yeah.
It happened in 2018.
My dad and I, my mom, my dad, my brother and I were at the beach.
We are sitting in a circle as we do.
And my dad's staring at me.
And he asked me how much I weighed while we were sitting on the beach with our bathing suits on.
And I was so mad about this.
This is a true story in a beach chair.
And I do the, I show you, I'm basically in a beach chair right now if you're watching.
This is not a proud angle for me.
I, and it was a minute story.
I was so mad at my dad for asking me how much I weigh at the beach.
Randomly out of nowhere.
Randomly out of nowhere.
And I went home.
I podcasted about it.
I got out of my system and I tried to tell it on stage.
And generally like, it kind of didn't work.
People were like, is your dad a dick?
Like, is he being, why is he being a dick?
And then I was like, well, maybe I got to explain my mom and my dad and the fact that we vacation
together and I'm 41 and I'm on the family plan.
Wait, you said 39.
I'm 39 in the special.
But I'm 41 now.
It's been two fucking years.
Two years.
I taped it.
So this is the hustle.
And this is my ask of your audience.
I love, I did your live show.
We share, you know, the people that follow us and go to our shows and, you know, get into this show.
We share a sensibility, you know, and I really do believe that.
And it makes me so happy and proud.
But this special is for us.
It's anyone watching.
You will relate.
It is for you to watch with your parents.
Yeah.
With your cousin that you smoke weed with during things.
I think it's a little Jewish coded.
Well, that's the point.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So is Seinfeld.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Seinfeld is a Jewish show without being Jewish.
Right.
And that's how I explain.
This is an episode of Seinfeld.
So if your parents like Seinfeld, I told people, bring your parents to the show.
And the best joy I have is someone in the crowd was like hitting their dad being like, he's talking about you, you asshole.
No, my mom, like I was thinking of sending them the screenery someone.
And I was like, they'll just watch it on Netflix.
You know what I mean?
Go explain to my mom put in the fucking password right now.
You know what I mean?
This is my mom.
Okay, get us in the Hulu.
Get us in the Hulu.
And then I go to help them get into Hulu.
And my mom goes, he can't do anything.
He doesn't do anything.
He's got two left thumbs.
He can't do a thing.
So they're just heckling me as I'm trying to help them.
And I'm like, no therapist would believe this.
Wait, can I ask you why you said in the special that, because it's true that millennial
relationships with parents are weird.
They're weird.
Yeah.
It is, we are the first generation that's going to do financially worse than our parents.
Just by the numbers.
So we are attached to our parents in a way that our parents were never attached to their
parents.
So our relationship, it's like, you know, boomers are confident.
No one's more confident than a boomer and no one's more unaware than a boomer.
They're confident and unaware.
and I envy it.
I wish I was confident and aware.
Millennials, we have no confidence at all
and we're aware of everything.
We're aware of everything.
So what a bad combo.
And there are our parents.
And we have to deal with them
because they have the money.
They pay for the cell phone bill.
And you really are truly still in their cell phone bill.
I'm in the process of being kicked off.
Really?
My dad's like, enough, enough.
Enough.
We're moving.
Yeah.
We're done.
Yeah.
And it's like, listen, I can pay for my own cell phone.
I'm not saying I can't.
It is just.
just it's the weirdest of the relationship.
You fly somewhere, you text your parents landed.
Right.
That's weird.
That's true.
What cracked me up was when you were saying that we call that you're a walk
fill in.
You're a fill in for the walk.
We're feeling for the walk.
Our parents think we're calling them for help.
It's like, no, the help is I just want to hear someone on the phone.
I just want to talk about myself on the way somewhere.
Right.
And then I'll hang up with you the minute I get there and I won't feel bad, which I would
with a friend.
Totally.
With a friend, you'd be like, and how are you?
Fuck, I have to ask how that with your parents, you go.
But do you ever feel bad?
Because for me, there are two things I feel bad about.
One, if my mom can tell, oh, you're walking Leo.
My dad.
She's a dog walk company.
Totally.
And two, that I really don't really listen to her when she talks.
No, we are never listening to them.
No, I, you know why don't I feel bad?
My dad goes, what am I cheap filler?
He calls it cheap filler.
He goes, I'm cheap filler.
You're just trying to get me on the phone so I can accompany,
you on this car ride you're on.
Yeah.
No, they feel it too.
They feel it.
But they'll take it is the thing.
Of course, because they, you know, my parents,
all they want me to do is come home.
When are you coming home?
When are you coming home?
And then I get there.
When are you leaving?
When are you leaving?
How long are you here for?
Enough.
What is,
what is wrong with us that we can't?
I feel so bad is that there's,
is it that their stories are not interesting?
Because I'll be telling a story.
I could tell my mom, tell me,
it sounds like your mom is the same way,
about like my friend.
friends, sisters, friends, sister.
Yeah.
And she'll be invested.
Eating it up.
Eating, asking questions, remembering.
But you said, meanwhile, she'll be like, at work today, I, you know, misfiled something.
And I'll just be like, wait, what did you say?
Yeah, you're like, mom, I got to go.
I have kids.
Like, we can't focus on their stories because why?
Because they're so, like, not in our scope.
Well, their stories go in.
like crazy directions.
Also their stories, my parents,
they always have like some part
where they're just talking about their sickest friend.
Like their stories get sad.
They're like, oh my God, today
I woke up late. It's so hot out.
Alan Harowitz is dying.
And you're like, what? This is our of mine.
I was dying at the get in, take a picture.
Take a picture. These are all bits.
I'm so happy you like that.
But it happens a little bit, right?
Because you were saying everything happens.
It's just how it's exaggerated.
Every story I tell is true.
Yeah.
I don't, you know, that's the, I think the, you know, stand-up comedy, where the state
of it all, I'm there to tell stories about myself that someone goes, he's telling my story.
Right.
I want someone to relate so much.
And it made me feel so good.
I did the show in all the whole, when you say it's Jewish coded, it's so funny.
I did the show the whole country, Canada, all of Europe.
I went around Europe.
You did the show.
I had people in Norway going that beach story was awesome.
Oh, my God.
How do you sell tickets?
in Norway?
The internet.
No, but like you're counting on having a follower population in Norway.
When I went to Europe and I toured.
Or do people buy comedy tickets no matter who's performing?
What I was told when I went to Europe and did a tour, they're like the first time,
it'll be someone that's an expat who's in the country that knows your stuff that like
forces a friend to come.
And they were like, the next time you come, those people will have fun and they'll tell the
rest of the Norwegians that we got it.
too. Like that's what I did Norway, Denmark. I did, uh, I went to Berlin. I did London. London's easy.
London is like here. Yeah. Belfast, Dublin, Dublin, Copenhagen. Dublin. Dublin. Is that not?
Like, I'm an idiot. Why did you say Dublin? Dublin? Dublin was great. I had a great time. Dublin is
fun. I like, I like Ireland. I did it in Australia, New Zealand, Canada. So you're, so you have people in
all these places? That you do too. They're, they're out here watching.
listening right now and they are eating this up and the world just keeps getting smaller.
And that was the cool part is that I would have people, I take pictures after every show, a family
that looked just like mine, just being like, oh my God, we go to the beach and we talk about
how much we're going to eat and how fat we are too.
And like when I met your family at the live show, I knew those people.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I knew your mom.
I knew your husband.
I knew everyone before I met them didn't need like, oh, what's your name?
What do you do?
Didn't need any of that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And that's, like, the beauty of it all.
I, like, it made me feel fulfilled.
Like, I, you know, we did this whole thing.
And, and, and then you want it to be somewhere.
I wanted to be on Netflix because I was like, I can't tell my parents how to get on
Netflix.
Never mind, you do.
How am I going to get someone to watch this?
Right.
Now it's on Netflix and, you know, you're kind of left.
Which is a big duel.
Big doll.
Big doll.
It's a big duel in Dublin.
It is, it is huge.
But I want people to watch it and share it.
Tell a friend.
Like for you,
you're like,
I'm looking for like
a number one spot on Netflix.
I want it more than anything
because I love doing stand-up.
I love it.
I love that you watched it
and you were like the one story.
I want to put,
I think of stand-up.
Like,
we do this,
we talk about pop culture.
I come here,
we hang out.
It's great.
It's all for stand-up.
Yeah.
That's the prize.
You get to do that.
If you do all this other stuff,
the podcast,
the face-to-camera,
the TikTok.
That's what your love.
That's your love.
That's it. I'm good at it. But aren't you sick of the touring? I enjoy it.
Really? I would like the touring to be, like I've been the whole country. I go to the Atlanta
airport and I play a game where I go to every gate. I'm like, been there, been there, been there.
I see which one I haven't been to. It's like very few I haven't been to. And I'd like the touring
to be simpler. You know, the goal with this special is for it to be number one and find more
people like the listeners who already know me. You know, I want the algorithm to go find people.
just like the people I perform for all the time,
so that I can go and do 10 nights in 10 different cities
with a worked out hour and then tape the special of the end
and then take a month off.
Right.
I would love for that.
I'm not there yet.
You know, that's my goal, you know, but we'll get there.
I'm having fun enjoying it along the way.
Like I love doing, I go to the comedy seller and work on jokes.
And like that's...
Wait, how long have you been doing it?
16 years.
16 years of stand up.
Stand up.
And then you did.
And then so standup came first, then kind of Instagram.
Then podcast.
Then podcast.
Then podcast.
Then I was writing online doing like I always, I never had, you know, I never had
anyone go, you're the guy.
You know, like, I had friends who got cast and things.
You had to push for yourself.
When I was starting comedy, a lot of friends of mine and people that I know well,
you know, guy code and girl code.
They were getting plucked up by MTV.
and I'm like, I'm the most guy code guy there is.
But it never happened for me that way.
I didn't get.
And then I saw that quickly and I don't have the confidence.
I'm very, you know, when you have body issues, you hustle.
Because you're like, who would want me in my Kleenex-shaped body?
What MTV show would ever want this broad-shouldered thick man?
So I went and I would go and like, you know, I work with Betches a lot.
You know, Betches, I saw their audience and I was like, those are like my sisters.
Those are girls.
Yep.
And I was like, so anytime I had a tweet, I was posting tweets on Instagram, I would send the tweet to.
By the way, me too.
Right.
You and I both.
You would tag bitches.
Hope for a fucking tag.
We'll be right back after the break.
I am always looking for something to do with my kids, a little trip a roo to get out of the city.
And, you know, we usually end up going to the same places.
So I've been doing some research to find out about where else can we go that's close, not a long flight.
Or maybe like a drive, something drivable is always fun.
Also looking for a place where there's something for everyone.
And guess where I found?
It's a really, really great option.
Buffalo, one of those places.
People don't realize how much there is to do.
First of all, the Buffalo waterfront.
You could literally kayak through the city, all right?
And they have zip lining across these like old grain silos that have been completely reimagined.
Such a good family activity.
The kids are entertained.
But you're like somewhere that feels cool and interesting for adults too.
Plus Buffalo has so much history.
But it feels very like now.
Like Buffalo is working on it.
Okay.
Buffalo is working at.
They have concerts and shows that they're doing in these like cool spaces.
They're like transforming old churches.
like literally amazing restaurants.
Okay, your literal favorite meal can end up being at a little corner bar.
I love that.
Also, you guys, an hour and 20 minute flight from New York, about a seven-hour drive from New York,
so you could drive to.
So I love that.
I love that.
Close, easy, different, unique, you know?
So if we're looking for a little vacation, staycation, or trip, visit Buffalo.

meaning those were the prenatals I took by a ritual. Those were the postnatals I took.
Ritual. And I don't know if you know this, but when your body's in postpartum, you actually
need even more support from your supplements than when you're actually pregnant and it's just
entirely different. And if you're breastfeeding, your body is literally doing so much. I
can't even comprehend it. So that's why Ritual's essential postnatal is formulated to help support
your nutrient needs for postpartum and throughout lactation. It has vitamins like AC, D3, and zinc to help
support normal immune function, omega-3, DHAs to support the fatty acid of breast milk, biotin,
and coline to help support increased nutrient requirements during breastfeeding. And I'm sorry,
but practically speaking, I need something I'll actually take.
And it being two pills a day and delayed release, so it's gen dilemma tum-tum with a citrus essence tab inside, which makes the whole vitamin taken situation more pleasant.
That's what I need.
Not only are they third-party tested for allergens, microbes, and heavy metals, it is also traceable.

there I'm a millennial girl and I love it. But I have to tell you what I'm obsessed with more than
her music is how fantastic she looks. She was not gatekeeping. She is letting us know what she is doing
and she is doing ladder. It's amazing by the way. I downloaded the app. I signed up for a plan
and ladder just makes my life so much easier because even though I have like a once a week workout
that I make and I go to the gym, I need something that's more on the go that I could do if I'm

I am going to overshare here, okay, but I will say I have worked with Nix for a while.
Okay, I've promoted their league proof underwear.
I love their bras.
I always love their athleisure.
or anything they come out with, I'm obsessed. I'm obsessed with the brand, women owned, everything about it.
I will say it took me years, okay, to really lean into the leakproof underwear. And once I did,
oh my God, new life who this, like, I used to love their league proof underwear, but I used to be like,
okay, I'm going to wear a little pad or the tampon and this will be like an additional layer of
protection, which I love. However, in the past like year, I would say, I'm just free flowing, okay?
And I've never had better periods by doing that.
Like, it just feels like the way it's supposed to be.
Getting it all out, all right?
Letting nature do its thing without any other things in the way.
And by the way, it could hold an obscene amount of blood.
Okay.
So what I do is I put on the leakproof underwear.
I've never leaked the leakproof.
Okay, even in the heaviest days, you also have leakproof underwear for different absorgencies, okay?
You also have songs, voice shorts for overnight.
Okay.
And then at the end of the day, what I'll do is I'll wash it by hand.
Then you'll see a little bit of a dexter situation in your sink or whatever.
And then I'll throw it into the laundry.
You could also just straight throw it into the laundry.
I like to give a little wash before.
And I'm telling you, you guys, your period will feel so much better.
Your body will thank you.
Your everything will thank you.
Okay.
So good.
If you guys want to check this out, head to nix.com.
And you'll see why I love Nix so much.
Don't forget to use Code Amanda 15 for 15% off your order.

And we're back.
What used to happen to you when you would write these things and like a place took it and didn't tag you?
Oh, I would drive me crazy.
It would drive me crazy.
Again, it's my livelihood.
And then it was so like dependent on that.
Like, that's how you got kind of out there of like a bigger place took one of your things
and tagged you.
So when you wouldn't get credit for it,
it would feel me.
It was very frustrating.
I mean,
like that would just hurt me.
Right.
And the problem was you couldn't complain to anyone.
No one.
Oh,
like your friend with a baby would be like rocking their baby.
Oh, really?
Your tweet got stolen?
As they're like,
yeah,
I'm dealing with puke on my shirt.
Right?
Did you feel so alone?
I felt so alone.
And,
and well,
bitches,
I got to know them so I would text them.
I'd be like,
this feels like a betchy tweet.
And they'd be like,
and what I loved,
what I love about The Bachelors is they've always been straight up with me.
They'd be like, now and not for us.
Or they'd be like, oh, great.
And then I get tagged.
And you did The Bachelor screams.
So then I would yell at The Bachelor on social media because I was like,
here's my own show.
Yeah.
You know, and I make fun of the show.
Because I know something about the people, the people I perform for are generally like me.
They're not like in the Reddit threads discussing stand-up comedy beef.
Like a lot of like Joe Rogan fans, they're like in it like it's professional wrestling.
Like I'm dealing with an awesome.
audience that they got better things to do than worry about my comedy career.
They want to go out.
They just want to be entertained.
They want to be entertained.
They want to go out on a Saturday night with their husband or their boyfriend.
And they want to just like laugh and forget about the world for a minute.
And that's why when I tell these stories like, you know, I'm telling a story about my family
that you can go, like I want people crying in the aisles.
Like I don't want to sit there and change your mind.
I want you to go, yes, my mom too.
I love her, but fuck her.
Yeah.
And then my parents, they came to the shows and they brought their friends.
and their friends are like,
this is unbelievable.
Wait, so you talk shit about your parents
in the special.
It's all about them.
Right, right.
Are they flattered or are they offended?
They love it.
They love it because they know it's with love.
Yeah.
And here's the thing.
I brought them to the comedy seller.
When I first started doing it,
I used to, you know,
and when you first started comedy 16 years ago,
the goal is be funny.
Just make people laugh.
And the jokes might not be you.
When I got the first Netflix special,
like it gave me,
me the confidence to like tell the story I wanted to tell. And I started talking about vacation with
my parents. And like, you know, a lot of comedians, they go up with their sad tale, you know,
like their tragedy tale. I don't got a tragic tale. I grew up pretty well. Things are good.
Yeah. My parents hugged me. I went to Penn State. I, you know, had a good bar mitzvah.
You know, so like I dug into that. I'm like, I am on the family plan. I do vacation with my
parents as an adult. It is weird. And what I found from that is I found the people who
related, you know, and I think most people do.
It's a bigger audience than maybe I even believed was out there.
And I was at the cellar.
I'm doing these bits about my mom, my dad, every night,
and I'm friends with the whole staff there.
I used to host there every night.
So when you host, I'm as much part of the management team as, you know,
I work at the cellar.
And I go on, I brought my parents and I put out the jump seats at the cellar.
These seats that you can put out for, like, family and friends.
And they sit down and I go on stage and I start doing it.
And the staff is like, have they seen it yet?
Like, have your parents see it?
And I go, they lived it.
What are you talking about?
Yeah.
I go on stage.
I'm like, yeah, so my mom, you know, I start telling the story about my mom and dad.
My mom stands up.
She's like, no, no.
That's not what happened.
No.
And I'm like, I'm like, yes, it is.
Because she has her own side of these same stories.
And the audience is like, what the fuck is happening?
Right.
And they're like, I'm like, that's my mom.
And the place like blows up, you know?
Like, and it's so they get it.
They know that I'm telling a story.
They were there.
Right.
my dad did ask me how much I weigh at the beach
I was horrified my dad does go off of bread
randomly that was so funny
the truth all of it is true
all of it is real I am on the family plan
I just I think it's there's something
when I do comedy now it's like I want to tell a story about me
and I only want to make fun of people I love
or would stand to be in a room with
the Roblo bet that
Roblo I'm waiting to meet him I know I met him
but I want to talk to him once he sees it
It was so funny because I feel like I've seen those commercials.
You were talking about how Rob Lo is the face of Atkins.
And I've seen those commercials.
And I feel like I never, you know, we're so inundated with content and ads and whatever that you don't overthink every single one.
And maybe I didn't feel like it pertained to me in that minute.
But you saying that, I'm like, oh my God, Rob Lo is the face of Atkins.
He hasn't had a chubby moment in his fucking life.
Not one month.
How does that decision made?
He would have sat on this couch that I'm sitting in right now.
and not thought twice about how he'd look on camera.
I'm sitting here the whole time being like,
oh my God, I look like a beanbag chair on top of a beanbag chair.
I am going to be in trouble.
Yeah, so that bit, I actually met him.
Yeah.
So in the special, I say that if I ever meet him, I'm going to say it to him.
And then I literally, I did the bit on the road.
And then I go to California.
I'm at the Netflix is a joke festival.
I'm in the golf tournament.
He's there.
I was like, I got to talk to him.
Did you?
I go up to him, I go, Rob.
My name's Jared Free.
I'm a stand-up comedian.
I've been doing a bit about you for two years on the road.
And he goes, the Atkins bit.
He goes, I heard about it.
I heard it's hilarious.
I can't wait to see it.
And I was like, I melted.
I was like, yeah, that's that.
I was like, I immediately liked him.
Yeah.
You know, I'm like, thank you.
And again, like, I don't, I'm not talking shit about Rob Lo to like get him taken down.
Right.
I'm just like, that's annoying.
This is a guy who's had abs for 40 years.
No, it's crazy.
And he's telling me to eat the.
Atkins cookies.
But your part about the
call-ins to the Atkins Center.
There was a real commercial.
He would take in the commercial
he would read emails
from Atkins people and I'm like,
who's writing to Rob Lo?
No, and like your calls.
Oh yeah.
Well, then, yeah.
I just, I did that bit on the road
and it didn't do great.
And then Michelle Wolf,
who's a good friend of mine,
I opened for her for like a year.
She's like, that bit.
You got to keep.
Like keep making it.
Keep going with it.
Yeah.
Work on it.
Keep going on it.
Like you're on the right.
No, that was so good.
And it fit, again, like it fit with the story because the story is all about parents,
body issues, generational body issues.
Babe, it's so wild to me.
Like, you and I, that's why we get along.
Skinny but not fat is.
Not skinny.
Not skinny but not fat is like my, that's my lifeblood.
Right.
When I saw that and we first met, I was like, I knew we would get along because not
not's getting, but not fat.
Like, we share the same annoyances.
Yeah, yeah.
Like, like the, because we don't identify as being, like, you know, tragic.
Right.
You know, but we're also not, like, looking at a supermodel and being like,
oh, I can't wait to wear the, the naked toe shoes.
Like, you can't relate to the woman wearing the shoes that are half a shoe.
Oh my God.
Do you know what I mean?
Like, in the same way that I wouldn't relate to a guy wearing cuts t-shirts.
Cuts T-shirts, don't fit.
me. You've tried. I tried. I was like a sausage casing. It was horrific. And they sent them to me
for free and I had to be like, enough. They go, maybe we'll send you a triple X out. I would die
before I go on a triple XL. But here's a thing that like fascinates me about standup comedy is like,
because I've heard about this about kind of like doing a bit and until it gets good. What is it
like tagging or? There's tagging a bit as like putting like a, you know, putting a joke onto it,
a laugh line. But like you're really massage.
But that means you have to go up on stage for however many times and for it to not be as good as it will be, right?
And for it to not, how does a person handle that?
Because how do you handle like, because we talk about like your mom says you're a sensitive boy, right?
How does a sensitive boy get on the stage at points in your life and not get the laugh or have some empty seats?
Like, how do you deal with that?
This is why I love stand-up so much.
There is a large barrier to entry.
You know, you might in your head think you have the joke,
but you don't have it until you go on stage and do it.
And it's a humbling thing.
You know, Seinfeld has this line about, like,
when you meet a comedian,
you both have killed, you've both bombed,
and you both have, like, a pad of paper and a pen in your pocket.
So you do, I feel the same thing.
same way about being Jewish as I do about being a stand-up comedian.
Like, stand-ups, if you do it, you're like a family to me.
I know you on a certain level that's very different.
And you can't really get too cocky if you're a stand-up comedian.
Because every night, if you're writing and you have a new bit, you're just trying to figure
it out.
It's a puzzle.
It's a puzzle I love doing.
Yeah.
And you go up and like right now I'm doing a bit right now about going to a nutritionist.
and I'm on a GLP1
and how a nutritionist
I've gone to like five in my life
and like I'm just trying to figure out
all the times I went to a nutritionist
and how hopeful I was
that the nutritionist would have this answer.
Would change your life.
Right.
How many times did I go to a nutritionist thinking
well they're going to give me a schedule
that is truly going to fit my life
and make it all easy for me
when really all I needed was
you know,
illegally obtained diabetes medication.
Like,
And so that bit about going to nutrition.
And then I went and looked at my email.
I'm like, let me go find the snacks that the nutrition is sent to me.
And the snacks they sent to me are enraging.
The idea that I'm going to eat a date.
A date, I feel like, is really high in sugar and carbs.
You think I'm shopping where a fucking date is?
I don't care what's in the date.
Can I ask you something?
Are you worried to get too skinny where you won't be funny anymore?
I'll deal with that when it comes.
I'll deal.
Let me just tell you that that's the last.
That's like when skinny, you're on a GLP one.
No.
No.
But thank you.
You look right.
Thank you.
I, the worst part about, now I'm seeing all the fraud skinny people.
That's exactly when someone's like, you worry about the sugar and a date.
Well, yeah, I'm not fucking worried.
If I'm eating a date, I got bigger problems if I'm still fat.
So, like, but how many times do I have skinny people when you're on a GLP one?
Are you worried about bone density issues?
Fuck off.
Fuck off.
Bone density of you.
We're going to wait until the science comes back.
No, no one ever cared when I had a cheeseburger in each hand.
And I was chewing out of each hand.
And, oh, are you worried about your health in 20 years?
No, you didn't care about me then.
Who was I listening to?
Somebody, like, ate through the Ozempic.
And that really makes me laugh.
That was Tracy Morgan.
He ate through it.
He ate through it.
Yeah, which I get worried about it.
That's the part about Yosempic is, like, people want to know,
well, how much of you lost?
How much of you lost?
And I think the mindset it's given me the third.
calm, the peace, the pressure that's taken off of, I went and did Jeff Lewis Live. That guy's
great. I did his radio show. I've done it. And he does like a little hang before. Carney Wilson was
there. Carney Wilson turns to me and she goes, you got to try my Biscoff cookie cake. And it was
a Monday morning and I try and I was on a GLP one. And I'm like, I can't believe I'm having the
most L.A. moment. I'm eating Carney Wilson's Biscoff cookie cake. Like this is crazy. I take a bite.
I have it. I go, it was delicious. And then.
And I go, thank you, Carney Wilson.
And you didn't overthink it.
Didn't overthink it.
If I wasn't on a GLP1, I would have done one of two things.
I would have been a crazy person.
I would be like, Carney, I'm sorry.
I had a bad weekend.
I got to be good today.
I haven't gone to the gym in a week.
Please.
I'll eat it another time.
I'm sure it's good.
I'm sure it's good.
Or I would have eaten it, been like, thank you, Carney Wilson.
And then gone on an eating binge that would have led to me being naked in an alley covered
in brown sugar.
Because you fucked up already, right?
Because I fucked up already.
Now I'm free to eat as much as I want.
So it's like, and now people are telling me I'm cutting corners.
No, I was fucking sick in the brain.
The GLP won't save my life.
It's funny.
I was just telling my husband, just in the eating thing, that it's like, because you know
what it's like to, like, struggle with weight in your life and be on a diet, basically,
your whole life.
It's not like you're struggling and you're always overeating.
you're like mostly saying no to Carney Wilson's fucking cake.
Totally.
And having my mom in my head being like,
you're going to have a Biscope cake on a Monday?
What's wrong with you?
So I was thinking about it the other day.
Regular Coke.
My husband was like, I'm getting like a sandwich.
Do you want one?
I was like offended.
I was like, do I eat sandwiches?
Right.
Like, am I eating sandwiches?
And then I thought like I might not look like somebody who's like never eating a sandwich.
But I'm not eating sandwiches.
You know what I mean?
No, I, that's the thing.
That's what's frustrating.
It's like I don't, I'm like thinking about the sugar in a date.
Yet I don't look like somebody who's not who's thinking about the sugar in a date.
That's the hardest part.
Like I understand what you're saying intimately.
Yeah.
Like you're, you're telling me to have Wednesday bread.
Are you out of your fucking mind?
I eat breads on Sundays and after I've had a drink on a Saturday.
Right, right.
Like I totally understand that mindset.
And when people don't understand it, you're like, and it, you're like, and it, you,
And you're like, not only am I in this mind state,
but it doesn't look like I am.
That's the most embarrassing part.
Because you go, oh, you know, when you talk about I go to the gym
and then you always have to apologize.
Well, but I know I don't look like, I'm a fat fuck.
I'm sorry.
It was like, you know, I had Adam Pallion like a while ago.
And I remember he was, I was like,
what's one thing people would be surprised about you?
And he was like that I go to the gym every day.
And the shock on my face.
And he was like,
and he was like, you thought I was like a disgusting, like, slob.
Right.
Oh, that's, it is very funny.
It's, it's the hardest part about having body issues is you talk about being sensitive.
I talk about being sensitive in the special.
Yeah.
You know, when you have body issues, you have great hearing.
You know, you hear everything.
Right.
Like, you hear, oh, you don't think I go to the gym.
Like Adam Pally is probably feeling the same way.
Right.
You know, and it's like, I have that with everything.
You know, I feel I have the sensitive, but sensitivity.
I think makes you a better comic.
Like great comics are great listeners.
And that's what makes you good is you hear when people don't laugh and you go,
that needs a fix.
You know,
you hear when people do laugh.
You go,
you also mention it in the thing,
which I feel like is a choice, right?
Like you,
in the,
while you're doing comedy,
you'll be like,
okay,
you guys laughed at this.
That means that this.
You know what I mean?
You point it kind of out in your special at least.
I feel discomfort from other people in a way that I wish I could explain.
I because I I I when I hear a laugh that wants to go with me that doesn't my job is I got to figure
that out and then maybe there's a joke there yeah because if people are I got to if people go
ooh that's not a that's not a bomb that's me getting information you know when you talk to
someone and you can you know when people ask me like I did my brother's best man speech and it got
like it got a lot of views and you know most important most important thing happened thank God
Thank God I got views.
Yeah.
Is he married still?
I don't know.
So the video got like a lot of views and whatever and I, you know, people are, I get asked,
what do you do a best man speech?
The thing is about best man or made of honor speech is like you,
you should always tell a story you've already told before because you've already worked out the story.
Yeah.
Because you've told, if you have a friend that thinks highly enough of you to be a best man,
that means you have a story about them that you've told a million times.
So you've already edited the story.
because you've told it in groups
and you've seen where people go
start looking at their phone.
You've seen the parts
where people start laughing.
So my job, especially in stand-up,
is like, I got to make sure
I listen for that all the time.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Like, where's the laugh coming from?
I'm going to repeat that.
Where's the laugh not coming from?
Okay, never say that again.
That's why you have to make mistakes.
You know, like, you know,
sometimes they'll say things
and as the words are coming out,
I want to pull them and put them back to my mouth.
You know?
We'll be right back after the break.
Can we talk about the fact that fall is basically here?
I'm actually excited because I love fall.
I love a sweater.
I love a jacket.
I love leather pants.
Okay, maybe leather pants are kind of out.
But I just love getting dressed for fall.
It's so much more fun.
Even though I've gotten comfortable with showing the arms, okay,
was free the arm summer.
I'm excited for fall fashion.
I love fall fashion.
But also I love fall fashion.
I love fall food and I love fall drinks.
Okay.
Summer is fun.
Okay, summer is vacation.
It's no schedules.
Kids staying up too late.
But by the end of August, I'm like, I need structure.
I need everyone back in school.
I need routine.
I need a schedule.
And I need to know the day.
And there are certain things that immediately make me feel like falls here.
And I know some of us like to speed that up and we can't wait for pumpkin spice.
Okay.
and we're thinking about pumpkin spice since May, okay?
But pumpkin spice is officially back in fall.
And Starbucks pumpkin spice is the first taste of fall, okay?
It's the joy of returning to routine and comfort after a busy hot summer that asks you to go,
go, go.
Let me tell you, pumpkin spice rappuccino and pumpkin spice lattes are the fall classics you know
in love that are back for a limited time. Okay. You deserve to indulge a little and fall is a time
to do that. Okay. I am obsessed with Starbucks Grappuccino drinks in a bottle or in a can. Starbucks
Double Shot Energy. Starbucks chilled. Okay. All of that I love because I love drinks that are, you know,
you could take them on the go. And I love that you can cap them. Okay. If it's in a bottle,
you cap it right back up. You could put it in the fridge so you can have
half now, half later. It's just everything I want. Okay. The second pumpkin spice comes back.
I'm in fall. Okay. I don't care if it's still 85 degrees out. I'm getting a Starbucks
Rappuccino drink and I'm getting pumpkin spice. Okay. Starbucks pumpkin spice is just nostalgic at
this point. You taste it. You're like, okay, we're back. We're back. Sweeter, school,
routine, a little crispiness in there. I am ready. Now that Starbucks has the bottled and canned pumpkin
spice drinks. It's a fall moment without having to make a Starbucks run. Okay. It's creamy. It's
indulgent. And it's a treat. It's a treat with caffeine. What better than a treat with caffeine?
I keep them cold in the fridge. So it's good to go when you want it. It's something sweet. It's
something coffee-eat in the afternoon. It's something you can offer guests in your house and they'll be like,
oh my God, I want to come back every day if this is what you have stocked in your fridge.
They also have Starbucks chilled multi-served pumpkin spice lottes, which is perfect to have in the fridge because you can literally pour yourself one whenever you want.
This might be a little dangerous for me because if there's something in my fridge that requires zero effort and is so tasty, I will be having it.
There's also Starbucks double shot energy pumpkin spice, which is those days that you need a little extra, a little extra something, okay?
You're back in a work mode, you're running around all day and you're like, I need energy.
That one is way more coffee forward, which I love and gives you that added boost while still giving you the pumpkin spice moment.
There is something so comforting about returning to your routines and your rituals.
And for me, having that first pumpkin spice of the year is one of those lovely, lovely moments.
Find bottled Starbucks pumpkin spice drinks wherever you buy your groceries.
I remember the day I found out about Primal Kitchen.
I was like, damn, yes.
Finally, sauces, dressings, condiments that I can feel better about, okay?
Because I love it.
I love a sauce.
Okay, that's how husband I met.
Sauce dripping down my face.
Okay, give me all the sauces.
So of course, you know me.
I'm health conscious.
I want to look good.
I want to feel good.
I want to be eating good things with good ingredients.
And I know most of the condiments that we know and love aren't thriving in the ingredients
department. But guess who is? Primal Kitchen. And they are in a mission to change the way the world eats.
Okay. They were the first brand to bring avocado oil into sauces and condiments. And they are the fastest
growing salad dressing brand in the U.S. I love them. Their sauces and condiments are made with real
ingredients for the real food that I love. Okay. Like changing over to their ketchup. Easy, peasy,
lemon squeezy, using one of their amazing, you know, vinaigrettes for your salad. Their Caesar dressing.
for a salad that's made with avocado oil, no seed oils, sugar-free, no dairy, you feel good about it,
you feel healthy about it. That's what I love about Primal Kitchen. So be sure to find Primal Kitchen
dressing, sauces, and condiments at your local grocery store or on Primalcitchen.com,
Primal Kitchen made for real food. Okay, well, I know that I am personally at the time of my life
where I'm just so damn curious and interested in what is going on inside my body.
I don't think we're about the annual doctor visits anymore, okay?
And to hear like, oh, everything's normal.
Like, we want the details, the hormones, the thyroid, the metabolism, the vitamins, the all of it.
That's why I'm obsessed with the idea behind superpower.
And I'm actually so excited to get started with them.
Basically takes your annual checkup and goes so much deeper.
Your membership includes 150 plus biomarkers every year across two lab tests.
So it's a baseline test and then a progress check.
So you can see how things change over time.
And then you have their app, the superpower app, and you get detailed information about things like your heart, your liver, your thyroid, your hormones, metabolism, mineral levels, gut microbiome and so much more.
I am obsessed with being proactive about my health.
That's what this is all about.
Okay.
that's what 2026 and moving forward is all about.
I want to know what's happening inside my body
and I want to have all the personalized data to work with.
So go beyond your normal checkup
and find out what's really happening inside your body.
For a limited time, my listeners get $50 off,

And after you sign up,
they'll ask you how you heard about superpower,
tell them, Not Skamed off that sent you to support the show.
And we're back.
We can ask about your brother.
You don't talk about him super often,
but he's in your special.
He's on the family vacation with you.
Yes.
Your two brothers.
My brother and I, my younger brother,
he's four years younger.
He looks like the after picture
in a GLP1 commercial of me.
So if we put us next to each other,
he'd be like, oh, Jared, whoa.
So he's never had body issues?
He's got, you know, it's generational.
He's got the same thing we do.
My mom, my dad, and I.
We all have the same thing.
He's a coach for the Chicago Bears.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah. He is, I'm like so proud of him, so happy for him. He was sleeping on my couch telling me he wants to be an NFL GM. Oh my God. That was his, he was like, and he's on my couch and I'm doing comedy and open mics. Six months in, I'm like, dude, there's too many dreams in this apartment. You're going to get out of here. And I kicked him out. And he ended up playing for the Israeli national team lacrosse. And he ended up working at the league office and then making his way into the coaching spot. And then he's now with the bear.
working with Ben Johnson and he's on the headset during the game.
So now I'm like this huge Bears fan I never was before and he's married and his wife is
unbelievable and she's a sports anchor.
Oh, really?
Yeah, they're like all American beautiful couple like.
What was it like because I have two boys?
Yeah.
Obviously I'm like thinking about dynamic and how you are with your mom, which like you are,
you sound like a good son.
With all the jokes, it sounds like you're close.
close with your family.
Very.
You talk about them a lot.
You said in the special that you broke up a relationship because the girlfriend wasn't
getting along with your mom, which, by the way, I think I remember.
Yeah, you were actually part of my, you, you, you're, this happened.
Yeah, this happened.
This isn't just a story, which is very interesting.
Mm-hmm.
How bad was it?
I mean, I read the cobra and the cobra and the special, but like they were fighting?
No, you know, I, it was uncomfortable from me.
Yeah.
You know, as someone who loves.
his mom and...
Are your mama's boy?
I get.
I like my family.
I like, you know...
You want to keep going on free vacation.
Right.
You can't have someone in the way of that.
I like the fun of my family.
I like, I'm calmed by the craziness.
Craziness.
I love hanging with my family and like, there's a piece of loving your family and the dynamic
that I didn't want to shake that up in a way.
But if you were like in love with this girl.
Right.
It's a, it's a, again.
It wasn't the only reason probably.
No, there's never one reason for a, generally there's never one reason for a breakup.
It just wasn't the dynamic I was looking for.
And, you know, it's funny, that gets talked down a lot.
You know, the guy, you know, mama's boy and all that.
It has a bad connotation.
I don't know.
It has a bad connotation.
I, you know, then you have the people online.
But then you have the mamas.
Right.
And my dream is for my sons to be mama's boys forever.
Right.
Right.
That's the weird part is like, because then you get the internet people who turn into,
you know, therapists all of a sudden
they use the word in mesh and suddenly they have a degree.
Yeah.
You know, and you're like, I don't,
if you knew the dynamic of my family,
they're considered,
but they're not,
they're respected and considered,
but they're not.
But how many vacations?
Like we're going,
we're going this weekend.
Yeah.
The special is going to come out
and then I'm going to Lake Geneva.
With your family.
With my parents and my brother and his wife.
What about your girlfriend?
And my girlfriend.
She's coming.
By the way,
you have a girlfriend.
I have a development.
Since the special.
New girlfriend.
How new?
Well, we dated years ago.
And then I ended.
I wasn't ready.
And then we got back together, like, within the last seven months, eight months.
And I'm very happy.
Like, you know, I couldn't be happier.
I also stopped drinking.
I went on a GLB1.
Completely.
I haven't drank since, like, a year and a half, like May 2025.
What was that decision?
What made that decision?
My dad and I went golfing.
It was March, it was April.
That was, I was going to take, I took a month off.
March 2020, five.
My dad and I are playing golf.
And he's like, what would make you happier if you did it for a month?
And I was like, I knew, I was like, okay, Danny Tanner here.
He's going to go into his story about, you know, the music's turning on.
And I go, I think if I stopped drinking for a month, I'd be a lot happier.
And he goes, well, there's your answer.
Why don't you try it?
I was like, well, I have Rochester coming up.
And that's like, I got a drinking Rochester.
And then I'm like, and I got a drinking Rochester.
And then I'm like.
And I got Nashville coming up.
I'm really got a drink in Nashville.
That's the most fun place in the world.
And I'm like, uh-oh.
I heard myself.
Again, I'm a good listener.
Yeah.
I'm listening to myself.
I go, yeah, that's probably a bad thing.
If the boring city you want to,
you need to drink in and the fun city you need to drink in.
So I was like, let me see if I can get a month.
And my buddy's wedding was May 9th, 2025.
So I was like, okay, if I get to the wedding,
then I'll drink at the wedding.
And I generally did feel better.
I generally, my sleep was great.
And I just was like, you know what?
I'm going to keep going.
I had to the wedding.
I was with some of my best friends in the world.
And you didn't drink.
Didn't drink.
I was having fun anyways.
The only day I kind of missed drinking at the wedding was like the Sunday after when we all got
together and like, you know, had lunch and, and kind of like, you know, we're hanging out.
But I didn't really miss it that much.
I was, you know, I walked away from that being like, I'm okay.
But are you like, I'm sober?
No.
Okay.
I didn't want to co-op the space.
I don't want to make that my, I don't want to put the pressure on it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I get a month.
And now a month later goes by.
Yeah.
I'm back with my day.
He goes, are you still not drinking?
I was like, yeah, I'm still, I kept it going.
He goes, damn it, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone.
I was like, what are you talking about?
He goes, I thought if you'd stop drinking, you'd lose some weight.
And I'm like, how did I run into that?
Bealings gut punch that I just got.
Do you think it's a Jewish thing, the weight thing?
The body stuff is, it's got to be a Jewish thing.
I mean, like, that's something you hear from like grandmas and moms.
Yeah.
I know it exists for everyone.
Yeah.
I do think it's just for us.
You know what my mom used to say when we were little?
She would say that we're really healthy.
You know?
Right.
And it's all that.
They're eating well.
Can you tell they're healthy?
Like meaning like we're not starving to death.
Right.
Well, that's like, I think the Jewish part might be the, the jokery that goes with it.
Right.
Like to look at your kids who all are beautiful children and go,
Look at how healthy they are fat of shit, right?
It's like so mean, but also they don't, it's not mean.
Yeah.
It's like, there's weird love to that.
And also all Jewish things, all Jewish events revolve around food.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So that's the thing.
You're told to come over and pick out.
Do you know, they change with my mom?
My mom now in her age and her current state is now like on this thing where I'm like,
you didn't eat breakfast.
Like now I'm anorexic.
Well, because...
Which is funny.
She needs...
That's the problem with mom.
Did you even eat breakfast?
I'm like, mom, do you think I didn't eat today?
She's like, your head hurts because I know you.
You didn't eat until dinner time.
And I'm like, you know, I eat.
Right.
Because she's...
This is her showing love because you're big Hollywood Amanda now.
And you're worried about, you know, in her mind, this is her protecting you.
You're worried about being on camera.
You're, you're hanging with the Kardashians.
You're, you know, all this stuff.
And now it's...
You're not eating.
Now you're not eating.
Yeah, you're not eating.
Because she knows.
knows you are her. Right. You know, she knows that what would her insecurities be? You know, her
insecurities would be, okay, I'm on camera, so now I've got to look a certain way and I'm going to
skip a meal. Right, right. Parents are just, they're just putting their stuff on you. The hardest
part about parents is that they're always 10% right. Right. And the 10% is what hurts because my dad
looked at me in a beach chair and when, how much do you weigh? And it's like, I didn't sit,
I wasn't sitting in the beach chair being like, well, what do you mean? I got abs. I knew I had weight to lose.
You cracked me up when you were like at the,
we all do the last check in the mirror before we go to the beach.
Everyone.
Like, and you're like, okay, okay.
Well, it is what it is.
I knew this special was the most Amanda Hirsch-voted special.
I didn't send it to you for no reason.
Yeah, I go to the beach and I have to deal with what I brought.
Yeah.
And that's it is what it is.
It is what it is.
And the only thing you didn't talk about.
What's that?
Is getting out of the beach chair.
that's when you look your worst.
I don't even want to acknowledge.
Like I don't want to like,
do not send me the video of me getting out of this couch
that I'm sitting in right now.
Those are angles that I'm not looking to see.
Right?
Like it's like, it's like Facebook being like,
hey, remember 10 years ago?
And you're like,
get out of here.
I was so skinny.
Right.
Like it's like Facebook.
Shut the fuck up.
Keep a secret.
No, it cracked me up.
Just in general that you're a beach family
that has body issues and doesn't like.
being in bathing suits.
Like, you know what I mean?
My dad used to wear a speedo
every time we went to the beach.
He was a big speedo.
No.
He would wear a tank top over a speedo
winning the pooing
all over the beach.
And like I grew up with like
body issues,
but like weirdly no embarrassment of that.
You know, like I was watching
my dad's balls
just like wave around the beach
and I was like,
yeah, that's what dads do.
You know?
No, a speedo.
I can't.
I, there's a moment where I'm like, if I had the body, I would, I would show it off.
Yeah.
Mateo Lane, that guy's running around in a speedo all over Instagram.
I'm like, good for him.
Wait, the point that was most Amanda Coded, which I had to mention is the, uh, uh, of your mom.
By the way, I have it, even before I was a mom.
And I've caused almost car accidents.
Yeah, no, it's the most annoying noise in the world.
And it really is so true that the, uh, that we do could be somebody died.
or Courtney Kardashian got a haircut.
Right.
Same.
Same.
The mom noise.
By the way, it still happens.
Like, I'll do that at home and my husband be like,
what happened?
Right.
Is Lenny okay?
You know, did the kids, you know, and I'm like, oh, no, no, no, no.
Just so and so commented on my post.
Right.
You wonder why men die before women.
That's why.
That's the stress women are putting on men.
Yeah.
Wait, you were talking about your boys.
Are you worried about them getting along?
No.
My brother and I get along.
I'm worried about having two boys.
This is all.
selfish, my love. I'm just worried about having two boys. Like, is that lame? Like,
it does it feel like a big enough family? Like, you're both, you have a girlfriend, your brother is
married, but I mean, you do vacations to get, like, in that sense, I'm worried. I'm thinking about it.
I think you're overthinking it, but I would think the brotherly dynamic, the funny part, well,
you're close. We're very close. We cheer for each other. Yeah. But we have a lot of the same interests.
And I think the thing about my family and the reason like when I ended the last relationship,
you know, my brother, my dad and I were all very similar.
We like to eat.
We like sports.
We like to make fun of each other.
Done.
That's it.
Yeah.
It's pretty simple.
Yeah.
And then our mom is the only woman in the house.
Right.
So I'm sure over time that turns my mom into a monster.
Yeah.
Like I'm aware of that.
But also that's what it is.
That's, you know, she's always.
People would say the queen of the house, Derek, not the monster.
Queen to some, monster to others.
Yeah.
So, but I, it's the monster I love.
You know, it's the monster that calms me and makes me, you know,
and is a part of me and who I am.
So.
Well, who do you call on the walks?
Your mom or your dad?
Both.
Depends on my mood.
Okay.
I'm going to call my dad if I want to talk business.
I'm going to call my mom if I want to make someone laugh.
Okay.
She laughs more at your jokes.
She laughs sometimes if I can get her attention.
A lot of times my mom will pick up and be talking.
to someone else while picking up with me.
So it's like the most annoying call you've ever been on.
I'm like, and I have to say,
if you're not going to talk to me, I have to go.
And someone else in New York is like hearing me say that.
And you're like, Mom, if you're not going to listen to me,
I have to hang up.
And then someone else across the street on 6th Avenue was like, I get it.
Well, tell me about the book you wrote,
because you were supposed to come on for that and then didn't,
The Walking Red Flag.
It's a dating advice book that is made to help anyone who's dating
and feels that dating is like a heavy part of their life to laugh.
By the way, I love that too, the taking the break on the special.
I talk about taking a break and dating.
You've got to take a break.
And you've done it.
The dating advice, you know, dating advice online is pretty much fraudulent.
Like anywhere you're getting it from, it's either pumping you with gas or it's trying to
enrage you.
So this book is really to get a reasonable guy, your brother.
Again, who am I to betches?
I'm like the older brother.
The book was personal stories,
personal dating accounts
to get you inside the mind
of the man you're dating.
And it's called Walking Red Flag
because I'm the Red Flag.
All of your husbands
were someone else's red flag.
They might be your red flag.
And I went on Good Morning America.
That was? What was that?
I'd go on Good Morning America.
I'm like, I'm the red flag.
And then the woman's like, takes one to no one.
And I'm like, yeah, I'm not, I am the red flag.
And I go, so are your husbands.
and they were like, no.
And I'm like, well, I disagree.
Like, you know, your husbands didn't just,
they're not pigeons, they just all of a sudden came out.
What, was that at like 5 a.m.?
It was 8 a.m.
And you were, you were hot.
I was ready to go.
I was ready to go.
I was like, I was like kind of surprised.
I was like, I'm looking to talk about dating.
I'm, again, I call it walking red flag because I'm the red flag.
And then they got so, like, offended by that.
But I'm like, that's kind of the problem with dating advice.
It's married.
people who let you know my husband is a king who, you know, has no problems and has never been a
dick. And then that kind of separates the men into like kings who are married and garbage.
Do you like the trend that's like, there's a trend that's like, oh, things I left my husband to do
when I like went in a work trip. And then it's like none because I didn't marry a loser.
Oh, get out of it. That's a loser. That's, yeah, it's like there's a lot of in the female world.
and again, this is me as an outsider.
It seems as though a lot of your social credibility
is gained through how pristine your relationship story is.
I don't find a relationship story with,
I don't think a relationship story with no struggle
or no is even interesting.
I don't even find that something to learn from.
If you got together and everything's been perfect,
I don't even think you're worth listening to.
Yeah.
You're not a real story.
me and my girlfriend
I ended it because
and again if you're not
if you're giving advice
without taking some sort of vulnerability
Right
Giving advice and again
the dating advice that I give
is really what would work on me
Right
But that takes I have to sound kind of bad
But also you're giving advice as a man
Right to mostly women
Yes
Yeah and it's not advice
It's more like here's what would work on me
Yeah
Give it a shot
And I can tell you how I felt
In this same scenario
and not a lot of women can tell you how I felt in this, they can't.
I had my own feelings.
And the premise of the book is I'm 10% away from every guy you've ever dated.
The guy you're dating is not 100% different than me.
He's maybe 10 to the right, 10 to the left.
That's it.
And I'm saying, if I'm telling you I felt sad, upset, indifferent,
it's probably a right around where your guy is at.
And, you know, again, the book doesn't make me sound,
like a prince.
And I, I, I'm kind of proud of that because the world is gray.
The people you date are gray.
Everyone's made mistakes and everyone has regrets and hopes to do better in the future.
Like, you know, I tell my girlfriend now, I wish I had the confidence to have stayed with in
this.
I didn't have, yeah, I didn't have the confidence.
I, I, I, and I'm okay with that.
That's about learning.
But I, I think if you're going to talk about dating and you're not, and you, if you're
talking about dating and you're all sort of.
so a hero, you're not really helping you. You're helping yourself. Right. I'm the straight guy in a
woman's world a lot of times. Yeah. Sometimes I have to like fight for people to see when people are like,
when men are like the frauds. Who are the grifters and who are the the guys that I'm,
and I'm here to tell you, Tyler Cameron could have cashed in, become the bachelor. Yeah.
he would have made 10 times more money
had he gone in the direction of faking it
than being him.
He has a moral code.
Yeah.
So that to me is a real guy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
He could have been,
he probably would have had 10 million more dollars
in his bank account.
You're so right.
Had he gone in a different for direction
that wasn't true to him.
Yeah, yeah.
I said that about,
like when Taylor Swift went out with Travis Kelsey.
I was like,
this is a perfect guy for her to go out with.
And, you know,
I was like,
don't listen to anyone who says otherwise.
This is a tight end.
A football tight end is someone who catches passes and scores
and also blocks for other people so they can score.
Who's more perfect for Taylor Swift,
the most famous person in America,
than someone who can be the front person and be the talent
or be the blocker and stay out of the limelight?
Yeah.
Tyler, you know, Travis Kelsey fits that bill.
And a lot of times I think a lot of people get,
If I get any anger online, which I don't, you know, I don't get a lot.
Just about GMA, maybe.
Maybe GMA.
Well, it's when I'm trying to be truthful about men and it's disappointing for the women who have signed up for them.
Right.
Right.
To hear.
Like, those women on GMA, they're disappointed to have me poke holes in the princess story they've been telling.
Right.
And I'm not doing that for, because I want them.
I don't want to take them down.
I actually would love to do a whole podcast about what you think about different guys.
Another thing that, before we go, because I know we're at time,
but another thing I think about all the time,
two more things that I think about all the time from you.
I know what you're going to say.
No, okay.
Go ahead.
No, you, do you guess it?
Is it Peter's mom?
Yeah.
Bring him.
That was another thing where I had a good opinion because I'm just a guy in a woman's world.
It was Pilot Peter.
Pilot Peter.
And his mom, the whole premise of that whole season was her going,
bring home to us.
Peter!
Oh my God, you guys, when Jared did this,
and I can't remember if it's our first pod ever together, second.
I think it was.
I actually physically peed my pants.
It is.
Because Barb, I think her name was,
was to me the star of that season.
Mother of two boys.
Shit. See, it's not good for us.
You're going to become this.
No, babe, so I don't know if I can.
Between your mom and Barb, it's not looking good.
It's tough for them to see.
They, they're the,
the queen.
You know,
that is,
it is a tough dynamic,
but it's also one that,
you know,
it's fun.
It's fun.
If you can figure it out.
Yeah.
And I think it's hard.
That's the thing.
When I did the bit in the special,
like,
I don't want to make it into like,
oh,
there was this huge fight.
It was just,
I was like,
I don't know how to handle this.
Yeah.
You know,
and I think a lot of it was my fault,
too,
you know,
definitely it was my fault.
You know,
if you're not 100%,
moms can feel that too.
Yeah.
You know,
and I think that's,
Listen, there are a lot of stories out there, like, about relationships between mother-in-laws.
I mean, I don't know how the girls are always posting about it because I'm like,
isn't the mother-in-law, can't she see it?
But you hear more horror stories than not about mother-in-law and daughter-bride.
What are you called?
The daughter-in-law and mother-in-law.
Yeah.
No, well, it's because that's an entertaining story.
Yeah.
No one wants to hear about the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law who get along.
Right.
You know, so I think that's part.
algorithm, but I also, I think it's a hard dynamic. I don't think it's easy. I don't envy.
When I, you know, going into a woman's family, like, if you're, I generally like, nice to meet you.
I'm having fun. I keep my mouth shut. I mean, I go on podcast and they're probably listening to
this being like, oh my God, he sounds horrific. I don't know. But I don't know. I think it's,
it's easier for a guy coming into the woman's home. If you're a person's home, if you're
parents too. I think for some reason,
a mom of a boy,
it's more
that story of like,
you have a son, he's yours,
until he belongs to someone else and that's ingrained
in the mom. And then she becomes protective.
She doesn't want the wife to take him away.
You know,
I notice it with like little things like,
you know, decorating.
And it's like, you know, the home now with
your girlfriend is doing the girlfriend.
Like, it's not your taste.
Yeah.
And, you know, that's, I think it's, it's, it's very funny and interesting and hard.
And I do think it's also the, a lot of what gets underplayed in those mother-in-law,
daughter-in-law stories is how bad the son is at being the referee.
Right.
At, mediating the two.
Right.
Like, because I know when I talked about it in the special, like, I, I didn't know how to do it.
Yeah.
You know, like, so.
And I say it. No one cared. And in the bit, I talk about like, no one cared about my mental health.
Yeah, right. They don't give a fuck about me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, so it, but I'm excited to watch you have two sons. I think that is hilarious.
Just on its own. Just on its own. And one other thing, which has to do with your special being out, everybody go watch it. Please.
The family plan on Netflix is you once said, and I can't remember because I said, like, let me know when you're showing New York is. I want to come support. And then you, yeah.
or screamed or made a bit about the, yeah.
You don't like when people come to support or watch to support.
Has that changed?
Do you want people to watch this special?
I'm going to make you flip on your words.
You're going to watch the support?
You're putting me in a tough spot.
Well, just saying.
Because I need their support because I need them to watch it.
I'm so proud of the special and I'm proud of the piece that I've made.
Yeah.
I think it's going to make your day better.
It's really your best work.
Thank you.
That means the world to hear.
And the support I want, the problem with the word support is people use it to let you know that they're doing you a favor.
Right, right, right.
And so I don't, I do need support.
I do need the, the NSBNF audience to support.
To support.
And the support I need is for you to enjoy the special, which seems like an easy thing to ask for.
But also tell a friend.
Yeah.
Tell a, tell, and show it to your parents.
Yeah.
Because are you flipping on those supports?
I'm flipping.
I'll flip for this.
I was wrong about support.
I'll sell it.
Sell out.
Please support me.
Please.
Everybody go watch the family plan.
It's so funny.
Thank you.
You know, I related to it hard as you know.
And I'm sure you guys will too.
I can't wait for your mom to see it.
I can't wait.
I'll story her cat killing.
And she'll be like, stop.
